Exploring AI in 'Annie Bot' and Related Media

00:00:45
Speaker
Mike sent me, so he sent me a screenshot today of the listings that are available at the movie theater and I completely forgot. So there's this movie that we wanted to see and I sent him the um Instagram reel of the like trailer the other day and he was like giving me shit like, oh, you only want to see, he was like, I tried showing this trailer a couple months ago and you didn't want to watch it.
00:01:11
Speaker
um Obviously it hadn't been released yet. He's like, but now you want to see it because like if you watch the trailer that's out now It's like very like there's pink in it and it's like it they made it look so much better And I'm like, well, yeah, I know I really want to watch it. So ah He sent it to me and it's These are the the movies. It's literally every like Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Dog Man is one of them, which is a kid's book companion. Yeah, companion is the other one. And I forgot that we were wanting to watch companion. And it's like about like an AI. I think it's like about an AI sex robot. um It looks really good. um And it's kind of like, I think a horror, not horror, but like maybe like kind of murdery but funny.

Emotional Connections to AI in Media

00:01:56
Speaker
if that makes sense. um Okay, so this kind of stuff. Have you read Annie Bot? No. You should read it. I read it last year. And I think it was my favorite of my sci fi reads. I love like tossing in a sci fi book. I love a good like sci fi. And this one was about um a robot who these robots were made to be companions, essentially. um And they were you know just to be dutiful, stay-at-home wives that like cooked and cleaned and then were ready with the perfect body temperature. And like it was all just like very sexual for men. And then like she starts to have her own
00:02:46
Speaker
like sentience and her own thoughts and she starts to gain her own like personality and like really struggles with what she was created for and it doesn't get murder e but it does get like very like thriller e towards the end like middle ok it's very good. Yeah.
00:03:04
Speaker
Huh. Okay. It could be, like, I mean, I just looked up like, is it based on a book? Yeah. um It doesn't look, but that sounds similar to the trailer. So I'm assuming whoever like is making this movie was heavily influenced by that book. Yeah. Well, when you started describing, I'm like, this sounds like Annie Bot. Yeah, because that sounds really good, honestly.
00:03:26
Speaker
yeah it's I have never felt so infuriated for a main character. yeah You really get like connected to her and like what she's going through emotionally.
00:03:40
Speaker
And the whole time you're thinking like, but she's a robot. But like, I was infuriated for her in so many instances. Hmm. Okay. Well, I'm going to have to check that out because we're going to watch the movie this weekend, I think. And if any of our listeners are sci-fi fans, 10 out of 10 recommend reading. Annie Bot was a great read last year. Yeah. I just screenshot it. So that's two books that you've referred me to that I'm going to read.
00:04:08
Speaker
I'm going to read, not listen to. It's however I can find him. ah Samantha is up past her bedtime um and we are on recording number two of the the evening for Sam. ah We just recorded Book Club for Supercast. My pup, my my little gizmo, he's so tired.
00:04:30
Speaker
He's got the sleepy eyes. He's got the sleepy eyes. He's like, mom, can you please turn off the fucking light and stop talking like I'm running out of bed. But we are not talking about robots or Sam's bedtime.

Differences Between Charms, Talismans, and Amulets

00:04:43
Speaker
No, we're not. What are we talking about?
00:04:46
Speaker
We're talking about protective talismans. Yes. I have to say, I actually learned a lot doing this research because I had in my head what I thought a protective talisman was and research has showed me I am clueless. Same. Also like half of my notes I had to redo because whenever I was researching it, like you're going to mention this.
00:05:14
Speaker
um In the very beginning of your notes, so I'm not gonna spoil it but like oh different Websites are also confused. Oh, yeah yeah Well, and like so is like I would say like pop culture and just like any like movie, TV show, book, anything. They use three words that I'm about to talk about interchangeably and they are very different things. Yep. And I did not know this. So I was like, wow, look at me learning something too. Yeah. So with all that being said, those three words are charms, talismans and amulets.
00:05:57
Speaker
So charms, talismans, and amulets are often used interchangeably, but they're, again, three very different things. So when we're talking about charms, these are items that hold significance because of their historical, religious, or folklorish beliefs that surround a particular charm. Some examples of charms could be horseshoes, four-leaf clovers, the Christian cross, or like a lucky rabbit's foot.
00:06:23
Speaker
And something that sets charms apart is that they don't they do not need to be charged with an intention since they already hold their own significance, giving them their own innate energy. So when we're talking about amulets and talismans, these are both created by the practitioner for a specific intention.

Types and Significance of Talismans

00:06:43
Speaker
and they are imbued with a specific energy for a specific purpose. So amulets are typically created for protection and to push or keep negative things away and they're typically worn. An example of this would be a piece of jewelry that's imbued with protective energy and it's worn specifically by that person for that protection. Talismans are meant to attract something in. So something like spirits, money, love, happiness, peace, etc. Talismans are often physical objects, but they could also be a symbol that's like written as well. And in older ceremonial magic, talismans were often created to invoke certain spirits during ceremonial rituals. So again, talismans are meant to attract or to bring something in.
00:07:34
Speaker
Simply put, talismans invoke a quality of power, like amplifying your ability to see auras or enhancing your psychic abilities. Yeah, and then I was reading too that talismans can be anything from jewelry, stones, coins, as you mentioned, the handwritten symbols, but it could also just be like any everyday object. um And the power that comes from talismans, it comes from the energy that is imbued into them. So as the different than charms then because
00:08:06
Speaker
they have their own innate power in them. Additionally, there's also items that are known as power objects. um These are also known as relics, and they expand beyond the realms of charms, talismans, and amulets. These can be larger items like a staff, a wand, or even an article of clothing, and they're items that you can infuse with an essence. So think something like infusing it with creativity or courage.
00:08:34
Speaker
so I was looking because I love the history bullshit. Amulets, charms, and protective talismans have been used throughout human history as symbols of protection, luck, and spiritual power. and We have many examples throughout history from the ancient Egyptians, Greeks, and Romans, all of whom use protective talismans to protect against evil spirits and misfortune.
00:08:57
Speaker
and so For instance, in ancient Egypt, amulets were used in place of talismans, like the Eye of Horus or the Ankh, and they were used to ensure protection and health in both life and in the afterlife. In the Middle Ages,
00:09:12
Speaker
The pinnacle was used by many mystics and witches for spiritual protection while iron and horseshoes were nailed above doors to ward off evil. And then in Asian cultures, charms were inscribed with sacred calligraphy or mantras, and they were carried to fend off harm. And in certain indigenous practices, like using natural elements such as feathers, stones, and bones were used to repel malevolent spirits.

Cultural Uses of Charms and Talismans

00:09:42
Speaker
Yeah, I think that's a good point. So like while these definitions are spelled out in a broader sense, it should be noted that different cultures and different practices or beliefs are going to vary slightly. I think the easiest way to really like put this into perspective, though, is that charms are what we typically think of when we think about luck or protection. So like a lucky rabbit's foot, a lucky four-leaf clover, et cetera.
00:10:07
Speaker
An amulet would be something like an evil eye ring or necklace, a piece of jewelry with a protective crystal, or really anything that you can wear that you can imbue with protective energy to push away negative or bad. And as for italic men, those can really just be any object or trinket that you can imbue with the energy to attract an energy to you, whether it be like wealth and abundance, a deity or a spirit, peace,
00:10:35
Speaker
like whatever that energy is. And then Kendra Sand of the House and Sand blog shares that both amulets and talismans can be something as simple as like a stone that you find outside.
00:10:49
Speaker
which I really loved because we tell you guys all the time that you don't have to go out and buy all the things. Like oftentimes nature is going to give you what you need. And I feel like a broken record because we just talked about this on book club too. So I'm like, and again. Um, so when we're talking about specifically protective talismans,
00:11:10
Speaker
ah They're believed to guard against negative energy, so somewhat like an amulet would. So this would be like energy coming from the evil eye, envy, curses, or malicious intent, spiritual threats that would come from psychic attacks or malevolent spirits.
00:11:28
Speaker
physical danger from accidents or misfortune that may come to you, or emotional harm from toxic relationships, manipulation, or harmful thoughts. And there are some different types of protective talismans. So that this can be symbolic, natural, or personalized. And so when we think of symbolic types of protective talismans, this would include the pentacle, like we've mentioned earlier, representing protection through the harmony of the elements.
00:11:58
Speaker
The Eye of Horus, which would shield against evil

Creating and Maintaining Talismans

00:12:01
Speaker
forces and grants healing. The Hamsa Hand, which is a hand-shaped talisman to ward off the evil eye. And certain runes like the symbol for protection. And then as far as natural talismans, this would be crystals. So think like black tourmaline.
00:12:19
Speaker
which absorbs and deflects negative energy, obsidian, which protects against psychic attacks and emotional draining, amethyst, which um helps create a spiritual shield for the mind and the aura, and then herbs such as ah garlic, which is traditional to ward against malevolent spirits, rosemary um for physical and spiritual protection, and rue, which is often used in protection rituals and spells,
00:12:46
Speaker
And then for the personalized types of protective talismans, this could be hand-drawn sigils, handcrafted items, so like jewelry or like even pouches that you create that you infuse with your energy. um This could also include family heirlooms or you know basically anything that's been passed along to you that carry some sort of protection with them.
00:13:09
Speaker
Yeah. And then so while doing my research, I came across a YouTube video by Ivy Corbus who I have used in um other research on the podcast before. She has a great YouTube channel and I've linked to this video in the show notes because I'm not going to go like completely like step-by-step but she does have like a step-by-step video and she showed like she shows you her entire setup and like how she does this exactly but she has a video on how you create both an amulet and a talisman and she does them back to back in the same video and explains some of the differences so um if this is something that you're interested in
00:13:53
Speaker
Definitely check out the show notes and maybe just like use her video as a starting point or as guidelines Because this is she explains like this is how she does it but it's not necessarily like how it has to be done because As we say so many times like witchcraft is personal and you really have to do like what feels right to you so to start like with any practice you should cleanse yourself your space and any items that you're going to be using during like your amulet and or your talisman ritual and you want the energy to be as energetically clean as possible.
00:14:27
Speaker
So do whatever cleansing calls to you to start the process. Then you want to consider your correspondences that tie into your intention. So Ivy recommends using Llewelyn's complete book of correspondences. But if you don't have access to that book, you can do a quick Google search. We talk about correspondences on the podcast all the time, so maybe something that you've heard us say. um Just anything that you can find some correspondences or simply just like Trust your own intuition by using what calls to you. You can also create a sigil to place items on during the ritual to help give your items like a boost. So if you want to learn more about sigils, we have also covered that on the podcast before in episode 24 in season one. So go back and listen to that if you haven't.
00:15:14
Speaker
If you use a sigil, you should create it and charge it beforehand. And then when you go to do your ritual, you're going to place your item on top of it once your sigil is already charged. Once you are done, you should close the ritual and then burn your sigil in your cauldron at the end. But remember fire safety. And if burning is not an option, you can simply rip it up and throw it away.
00:15:37
Speaker
As for both amulets and talismans, the process is very similar um with just like a few slight differences in the way that she does them. But again, do what feels right for you. So with amulets, they're protection-based. So she shows you how to create an amulet for protection. You need to choose your item. And it typically should be something that you can wear. So for the purpose of the video, she used a necklace.
00:16:04
Speaker
Ivy recommends creating an amulet on Saturday during the hour of Saturn, on the Saturday that you're working the ritual, as Saturn is tied to protection. She gives more ideas of how to work with like planetary magic in your ritual, as well as if that's something that you're interested in. So like definitely check out her video in the show notes. And a tip that she gives is to move your hands counterclockwise over your amulet to push things away since the amulet is for protection.
00:16:34
Speaker
um But that's if you're in the Northern Hemisphere, which I never, I don't know if you ever thought about this, but in the Southern Hemisphere, it wouldn't be counterclockwise to push away. Oh, I couldn't even- Yeah, right? I never thought about that. And then she explained it and I was like, oh my God, that's a thing that we have to think about sometimes. Yes.
00:16:54
Speaker
So um then for Talismans, she does one for improving psychic abilities. So you need to choose your item. um Talismans can be literally anything that you want to use. And for the video, she used like a little hand figurine that had an eye on the palm. And she says that it was going to be like placed in an area of her home that she spends a lot of time in, um especially like and and in a space that she like meditates and tries to like really hone her psychic abilities.
00:17:24
Speaker
Again, you're going to think of the correspondences that are going to help you with psychic powers and some suggestions here were to work with like the moon on a Monday during the hour of the moon or like a specific moon phase that best matches your intention. Her video goes on to show you like how she sets up her working space for her ritual and she walks you through her process like where she places the correspondences and why she does it, where she places the item and why she does it and like how she like centers and grounds and like puts that energy into it. um And that's something that you need to know too. Like you've got to be able to work with energies, like do energy work with centering, grounding, and then visualizing your energy come from your center and flow into your item while you're imbuing that energy with the intention.
00:18:11
Speaker
So for the amulet, that's going to be protection while your talisman is going to be whatever it is that you're trying to draw in. So Ivy states that you need to allow yourself to fall into a trance-like state while you do this, so that your conscious mind turns off while your subconscious mind turns on. And you can also call in deities or spirit guides to aid you in this part, like if you work with either or both.
00:18:37
Speaker
Once you've spent time imbuing your amulet or your talisman and you feel your ritual is complete, you're going to close it out. If you use herbs, you can compost them or put them in an offering. And obviously be careful how you discard salt because it's not good for your plants, your soil, or your animals.
00:18:56
Speaker
And these items will need to be recharged from time to time as maintenance. You can set a regular schedule or go off how the item feels to you as in like, do you feel like the energy is still there or is it off? You don't want the energy to go stagnant, so you should constantly recharge

Selecting and Activating Talismans

00:19:14
Speaker
them. So maybe like once a quarter every six months where you spend some time like meditating, centering, grounding and then pushing your energy and intention back into the item.
00:19:24
Speaker
So some other examples of things to consider for protection talismans. So I was reading that there you know you can when you're thinking about the object you're going to use, for material options, if you choose a stone, it's best to use black tourmaline, obsidian, or onyx. If you're using metal, try to use iron or silver if you can, and then assemble, obviously,
00:19:49
Speaker
things we've already talked about, so the pentacle, the hamsa, or the Ioporus. And then for charging rituals, I was reading that really like holding like for protection specifically, holding the talisman under a waning moon visualizing it surrounded by a sphere of light deflecting negative energy. so That could be a way that you um are another ritual that you do um if maybe you're wanting to create this um and it just happens to be the waning moon outside. I don't know. and Then as far as usage, protective talismans and ambulance, either one can be carried on your person or put by the entrance of your home. so Just as an FYI on that. and then
00:20:35
Speaker
I'm not going to go too far deep into this, but I have a little section on creating and using a talisman because I know Tiffany just went over that. But um one of the things that I think really like taking that guidance that Tiffany talked about, but making sure before you start anything, really sitting down and deciding the purpose of the talisman, what it's supposed to be for. So trying to get as specific as possible.
00:21:01
Speaker
on your intention, what do you want it to do? What is this for protection? Is this for attracting abundance, enhancing your creativity, improving relationships, improving your confidence, whatever it is. um I've created a talisman before specifically for confidence whenever I'm speaking in like public. And um so that's something that you could absolutely do if you wanted to. And then if you're wanting to choose a material for a talisman that is not for protection specifically for metals. I mean, obviously try and select an object that resonates with you and with your goal. This and as Tiffany's mentioned, and we mentioned all the time in the podcast, you don't have to go and buy anything. You can use something that is in your home or even a rock outside. But if you're wanting to use a metal and say you're wanting
00:21:50
Speaker
your goal is success, maybe something that's gold or like gold plated. If you're wanting to focus on intuition, this could be silver. If you're wanting to focus on love or healing, try maybe copper as the object that you use. If you're wanting to attract abundance with your talisman, look for citrine if you're looking for a crystal, or if you're wanting love, try a rose quartz. If you're looking for protection, again, obsidian, like we've mentioned,
00:22:18
Speaker
And then um for herbs or oils, you can add this to your talisman for extra energy. um So this could be like lavender for peace or basil for abundance.
00:22:30
Speaker
really just looking at again what the correspondences are for the intention that you're wanting to set and going from there. And then also just really quick to talk about I wanted to talk a little bit just about activating the talisman. So I was reading that you should seal the energy of what you've imbued into your talisman with a symbolic act such as anointing it with oil.
00:22:54
Speaker
or drawing a protective circle on it or burning incense as an offering. and Once you're done imbuing your energy within the talisman, you can use that talisman in whatever way it's meant to be used. so If it's jewelry, wear it. If it's money, carry it on your person or put it in your phone case or your wallet or something. like If it's a talisman that was meant to influence your surrounding environment,
00:23:16
Speaker
place it in your home or at your work or in your car, whatever makes the most sense to you. And everything that you choose for that is going to be very personal based on that intention. And I'm not going to say anything about recharging because you already talked about that too. I clearly read your notes very well.

Personal Connection and Daily Uses of Talismans

00:23:34
Speaker
and Some additional tips for caring for your amulet and talisman are to spend time with your object as they will thrive in energy that proves them useful. Meditating with the object is a perfect way to do this or simply wearing it in a way that it has contact with your bare skin.
00:23:54
Speaker
ah Make sure to cleanse them occasionally in whatever way you see fit. This could be under the moonlight or sunlight. Always make sure that your objects are safe under the sun though, because we know some crystals are not. And it could be with smoke, salt, or even water.
00:24:11
Speaker
It's suggested that you keep them secret. Sometimes these items are passed down or given to a specific person. But if it's not, and it's one that you create and imbue yourself, you should keep them secret and not share them with other people.
00:24:27
Speaker
ah Remember that you do not have to go out and buy an object specifically for the purpose of creating an amulet or a talisman. Again, you can use items that you find in nature, you can use your favorite piece of jewelry, a crystal that you might already have, or really just anything that you already have that you feel is right for this purpose. And my favorite tip that I came across was to remember that you are the source. So while material objects can give you a sense of magic, protection, and power, the source of those elements is always within you.
00:25:03
Speaker
And if over time the amulet or talisman is lost, know that you probably outgrew it and it's fulfilled its purpose. So don't go looking for it. You don't need to find it. Yeah. I love that. Cause I, I would be like, where the fuck is my flitter? I feel like anyone would you be like, Oh my God. But if it's lost, it's lost for a reason.
00:25:24
Speaker
Yeah. And then lastly, just as some, you know, if you're like, Oh man, I would like to create a talisman, but what, how is this going to be practical to me in my everyday life? It is, it is very practical. Because we said it is. Yeah. So in your daily life, carrying a small talisman for protection or confidence at work or school or whatever, I mean,
00:25:47
Speaker
You can use it anytime like even outside of your magical workings in your mundane and also during rituals like say if you want to create a talisman that is specific to helping you amplify the energy of a spell that is a way that you can use it in um in your daily life. And then also as grids or um like using it with a crystal grid or putting it on your altar um as ah like a focal point. ah That could be a way to use it. And then lastly, gifting. I know that you briefly touched on gifting as well, but you can also create talismans for loved ones.
00:26:23
Speaker
um charging them with protective or healing energy. And this is something that I've done with my own children, where I've imbued a crystal into a little necklace for them and given it to them based on a specific intention that I've imbued um energy in for. So that is something as well, like a really thoughtful birthday gift, Christmas gift, like whatever you want to do gift. So. Yeah. That's talented. I know learned so much on this episode.
00:26:52
Speaker
I came in here with one thought and I left with like 20. Yeah. And I'm just like, okay, well, clearly I wasn't doing this correctly, but it's fine. It's all right. It's all right. And if you were in that boat where you're like, oh, I've been doing this wrong. Do you remember? It's a personal practice. So however you were doing it was right for you.
