Introduction and Technical Issues
00:00:10
Jordan
What's good, everybody? Welcome into another episode of get Defensive Sports Network's Power 2 podcast. As always, I'm your host, Jordan, and I'm here with my co-host, DJ. And we are hoping that this recording goes successfully because we had to restart.
00:00:25
Get Defensive Sports Network
See, I wasn't even gonna break the fourth wall like that. Why did you?
00:00:28
Jordan
I know I'm breaking the fourth wall. They need to know the things that we go through for them, the things that we go through to bring out this podcast, like having to start over 20 minutes in because my internet will not.
WNBA Game Experience
00:00:39
Get Defensive Sports Network
Yes, your ghetto internet.
00:00:39
Jordan
My house has just not had a good week.
00:00:44
Jordan
It's just not been a good week in my house. This is why it's good that I'm leaving. and need my i need my house to reset. It needs to like... you know and I think it needs some time alone, some time away from me to to get its act together, putting that putting the house on punishment by leaving for a little bit because this is getting ridiculous.
00:00:55
Get Defensive Sports Network
Not some time alone.
00:01:02
Jordan
Too many things are going on and I don't like it. And my internet needs to not treat me like this in the middle of a podcast episode. But outside of that, how's life?
00:01:12
Get Defensive Sports Network
This is getting ridiculous and too many things is going on.
00:01:14
Get Defensive Sports Network
It's exactly how i feel about living in America.
00:01:19
Get Defensive Sports Network
Well, anyways, am very, very excited and happy because... There was a sold-out WNBA game at American Airlines on Friday, 20,409 people, and I am very happy to say that I was one of those people.
00:01:33
Get Defensive Sports Network
The Dallas Wings played the Indiana Fever on Friday, and unfortunately, Caitlin Clark suffered a groin injury two or three days prior, so she did not play that night. um But the house was still packed.
00:01:46
Get Defensive Sports Network
um It was really, really fun. I had a good time. I had some good seats. I got to see Paige Beckers do her thing, which was really, really cool and fun. So I'm happy. I'm chilling. I'm on cloud nine. I have not one, not two, not even three, but five WNBA games to watch today. So I will be fed and occupied for the rest of the day. I'm very excited.
00:02:05
Jordan
Love that. i will be preparing for my trip. Maybe I'll watch it the WNBA. Maybe I'll play baseball.
00:02:11
Get Defensive Sports Network
I mean, you may as well just have a plan in the background while you're, you know, packing your packing cubes.
00:02:15
Jordan
Yeah, we'll see. i don't have packing cubes. um But, you know, may.
00:02:17
Get Defensive Sports Network
You should invest in them. They're... Very great travel tool. Honestly, one of the best Amazon purchases I've made in a while.
00:02:25
Jordan
I'll think about it. I'll think about it. maybe Maybe I'll purchase some today and see if they'll be here tomorrow. We'll see. Especially because I'm going to be gone for a while. So I do probably need...
00:02:32
Get Defensive Sports Network
Yeah, it's just nice to keep everything, like, organized. can put your undies and, like, your sleeping clothes in one. Put, like, your nice clothes in one. Put, like, a casual clothes. It's nice. I personally love a packing cube.
00:02:44
Jordan
We'll see how it ends up.
00:02:45
Get Defensive Sports Network
has a little laundry bag in there. Anyway, sorry. Go ahead.
00:02:48
Jordan
You know who's packing their bag?
Masai Ujiri's Departure: Mutual Decision?
00:02:52
Jordan
Masai's packing his bag.
00:02:53
Get Defensive Sports Network
i
00:02:54
Jordan
The VP of the Raptors is no longer the VP or the president and vice chairman, I think it actually was.
00:03:01
Get Defensive Sports Network
um my go
00:03:02
Jordan
the The president and vice chairman of the Raptors is no longer there. day He had one year left on his deal and he said, and
00:03:10
Get Defensive Sports Network
I don't need it.
00:03:10
Jordan
Or they said not. Or collectively they said not. We don't know because the news report, yet it's never actually mutual, right?
00:03:13
Get Defensive Sports Network
It was a mutual decision.
00:03:16
Get Defensive Sports Network
ah Yes, yes.
00:03:17
Jordan
Like when your friend's like, yeah, we broke up, it was mutual. One person wasn't as mutual in this mutual breakup.
00:03:22
Get Defensive Sports Network
i
00:03:24
Get Defensive Sports Network
No, there are times where there's it's mutual. Like, I hate you just as much as you hate me. Let's just not hate each other anymore and be done. Like, there are plenty of mutual situations.
00:03:32
Get Defensive Sports Network
I mean, I don't know.
00:03:33
Jordan
but There are plenty, but most are lying.
00:03:33
Get Defensive Sports Network
don't
00:03:36
Jordan
Like most, mother you know, so there's always one side is less mutual.
00:03:36
Get Defensive Sports Network
know.
00:03:42
Jordan
even Even if it's like, even if you agree, you know, like, you know, I was going to say i gonna say you're a woman, but this is going sound much more aggressive than I wanted to be. But like, you're a person who probably in time in a relationship hasn't known what they wanted to eat.
00:03:58
Jordan
and eventually someone convinces you to go somewhere. And that's technically mutual, but like you didn't really want to go there.
00:04:04
Get Defensive Sports Network
I feel attacked.
00:04:06
Jordan
Like you said, yeah, we can go get Popeye's. But like in your heart of hearts, that was a mutual decision. You you decided. But in heart of hearts, you wanted sushi.
00:04:15
Get Defensive Sports Network
No, that's actually not true because I'm the type of person that number one, I'm a Libra. So there's just never going to be a day where I know what I want to eat. But however, I also am a habitual person.
00:04:26
Get Defensive Sports Network
So typically, like, the people around me know usually the top three things I want to eat, which ironically are Popeyes and sushi and a burger. Those are my top three things. So, like, typically, if I can't decide, if you just pick one of those three, like, we're good.
00:04:38
Get Defensive Sports Network
So it's not, no, it's not, like, mutual, but it's also, like, I didn't, like, hate this. I wasn't sitting here, like, oh, I really wanted to burger. This nigga got me a Popeyes. Like, you know.
00:04:44
Jordan
Yeah, see? And that's Masai right now. You know? He really wanted a new contract. He really he really wanted a new contract, but he gonna leave and go to the Knicks or whoever's gonna hire him.
00:04:55
Get Defensive Sports Network
Oh, my gosh.
00:04:55
Jordan
It was mutual-ish. Maybe he was tired to living in Canada. I don't know. I wouldn't want to come back to this country personally. I'd have to But one of them is slightly less happy than the other. But it doesn't matter.
00:05:05
Get Defensive Sports Network
Potentially.
00:05:06
Jordan
He's moving. The Knicks are i trying to swoop in. Maybe somebody else is trying to swoop in. The Lakers should be swooping in.
00:05:11
Get Defensive Sports Network
Yeah. There are plenty of teams in need of a president.
00:05:14
Jordan
the lakers just The Lakers just sold, and and and they're talking about, yeah, Jeannie Buss is still going to be the governor. How about no? How about hire him because she's not good at the job? And actually, no, maybe this doesn't matter. She would be fine.
00:05:27
Jordan
Hire him and get rid of Rob Palenka. That's who would be changing. Jeannie Buss wouldn't be changing. Hire him, get rid of Rob Palenka. Maybe the Lakers would win something. but anyway Or, or, or, or, or or orange Cooper Flag needs a GM because Nico got to go.
00:05:37
Get Defensive Sports Network
or
00:05:41
Jordan
He should be packing his bags.
00:05:41
Get Defensive Sports Network
No, no, Nico has had the Nico has had the comeback of the century.
00:05:46
Jordan
And that's why I would fire him.
00:05:47
Get Defensive Sports Network
No
00:05:48
Jordan
I would let him think, yeah, you sitting high and mighty. You sitting real pretty. You think you doing something not to train a Luka. You think you doing something not to get a Cooper flag. I still don't trust you. Get him out of there. Bring in Masai and give him and give.
00:05:58
Get Defensive Sports Network
We're never firing him now we got a number one draft pick
00:06:01
Jordan
He didn't do anything for that, though.
00:06:02
Get Defensive Sports Network
We're never firing him now.
00:06:03
Jordan
That's exactly why I'm firing him.
00:06:04
Get Defensive Sports Network
I know he didn't do anything. I know he didn't do anything, but it happened during his tenure.
00:06:06
Jordan
That's exactly. Imagine the roster he stumbled on. ah Imagine the roster he stumbled on led by a real GM.
00:06:13
Get Defensive Sports Network
Nope.
00:06:14
Jordan
Y'all be smooth. I'm not saying would happen.
00:06:16
Get Defensive Sports Network
Well, first of all, he's the one who put together the the the original roster.
00:06:16
Jordan
I'm just saying there's multiple.
00:06:19
Get Defensive Sports Network
The only decision, quote unquote, that's questionable is trading Luka. But the the original roster that got us to the finals, that was his brainchild.
00:06:26
Get Defensive Sports Network
So.
00:06:26
Jordan
And he can watch somebody else lead it. if it was me personally.
00:06:29
Get Defensive Sports Network
All right.
00:06:30
Jordan
You know who else talking about packing
LeBron's Player Option and Potential Retirement
00:06:33
Jordan
bags? know who's not packing a bag?
00:06:36
Get Defensive Sports Network
LeBron James, be because he decided for the first time in his career to take the player option.
00:06:37
Jordan
Not packing his bag.
00:06:44
Get Defensive Sports Network
$52.6 million, dollars so he's not broke, but he's only signing with the Lakers for one year. What does this mean, Jordan? Tell us.
00:06:53
Jordan
I think that this means it is more likely that this is going to be his last year, even if he won't say it, because he's never signed into the last year. He's always done ah but essentially what is a one-year contract.
00:07:02
Get Defensive Sports Network
least a two or three.
00:07:04
Jordan
Well, yeah, right.
00:07:04
Get Defensive Sports Network
Yeah.
00:07:05
Jordan
So when he was younger, he would do a four-year contract, three years plus one. And then as he got older, and also the NBA put in their things where older players couldn't sign five-year contracts because of Kobe Bryant and some people like that, he'd been doing one plus ones, essentially two-year contracts that were one year plus a player option.
00:07:23
Jordan
That's what he's done, like, the last three years with the Lakers, which is why you always get the LeBron's going to be a free agent. No, he's not. he's just, this is just a contract he's allowed to sign.
00:07:29
Get Defensive Sports Network
He's not, the man is 40. Hello.
00:07:32
Jordan
But um he could have easily done that and still retired. Like, he could have just denied the player option next year and still retired. But the fact that he accepted it. accepted it And also there's now like rumors and potentially a clip going around of LeBron saying that Savannah wants him to retire.
00:07:50
Jordan
Which one the bad bits wants you at home. You need to go home. And then also, also my theory.
00:07:53
Get Defensive Sports Network
hello
00:07:58
Jordan
And I'm not the only person in the world with this theory, but like I especially in like the sports media, I haven't heard anyone else say this.
00:07:59
Get Defensive Sports Network
Get defenses with networks theory.
00:08:06
Jordan
LeBron's going to be the first player ever to play 23 years. He's number 23. I think I always thought that there was a chance. Like, you never know when you get retired, but then when you get close and LeBron's like, like a weird kind of like history numbers, like he knows all these things.
00:08:20
Get Defensive Sports Network
Yeah.
00:08:20
Jordan
He always knew where he stood in the all time rankings and like all these sort of things.
00:08:24
Get Defensive Sports Network
Yeah.
00:08:24
Jordan
I think he knows that the first to play 23. And I also think for him, it would be cool.
00:08:44
Jordan
Is this still live?
00:08:45
Get Defensive Sports Network
Go ahead. Yes, go ahead.
00:08:46
Jordan
Is my internet working again? Okay, because it wasn't working for a second and now this is making me so mad.
00:08:47
Get Defensive Sports Network
Yes.
00:08:50
Get Defensive Sports Network
Yes. And I lost you and I was like, please, dear God, if we have to start this over, we just, I'm not gonna be able to do it.
00:08:58
Jordan
Like, we have so many more things to do today.
00:09:01
Get Defensive Sports Network
There's like too much going on.
00:09:02
Jordan
Like pre-record an episode because I'm leaving.
00:09:03
Get Defensive Sports Network
Like, We are batch recording today, you guys. Like, we have at least three hours of podcasting ahead of us. Like, we do not have time for Jordan's internet.
00:09:10
Jordan
And we can't get through 20 minutes? Come on, dawg.
00:09:12
Get Defensive Sports Network
Like, I don't have to... And again, my games, they start at 2. So this TV is getting turned on at 2. Because I believe the first game of the day, Miss Angel Reese is about to...
00:09:23
Get Defensive Sports Network
She's f flirting with a 2020 right now and I know it's coming. I know it's coming. She's been flirting with it for the last like three games. So I'm like 2020 is coming and the 2020 10 is on the way. I am waiting. I am waiting for my girl.
00:09:36
Get Defensive Sports Network
Cause the problem is she would have had it already if bitches was making their shots, but that's because we just decided to not get no shooters. And I'll say, this is not an Angel Reese podcast. Anyways, the point is
00:09:45
Jordan
I remember I remember saying she needed more shooters. I remember saying that everybody knew everybody knew that everybody knew the wiring in with the strap.
00:09:48
Get Defensive Sports Network
she, yes, because you know,
00:09:53
Jordan
I'm just saying Atlanta Yeah Every single one of them.
00:09:53
Get Defensive Sports Network
Because you know who has all the shooters and is getting gluttonous at this point? The Atlanta Dream. Yes. This is ridiculous. Y'all mean all y'all need everybody?
00:10:00
Jordan
Yeah, y'all did not need to heen a pound pound.
00:10:00
Get Defensive Sports Network
Y'all did not need her.
00:10:02
Jordan
I'm sorry like spread spread the world Yeah,
00:10:04
Get Defensive Sports Network
Like, what? What? A freaking rookie making six threes in one game? Like, don't piss me off. Love that for her, though. Oh, my gosh. Like, seriously. But, like, don't piss me off, okay?
00:10:13
Get Defensive Sports Network
So, anyways, that's โ this not โ back to LeBron James.
00:10:15
Jordan
LeBron, year 23, opt-in, player option, maybe maybe maybe retiring for the first time.
00:10:17
Get Defensive Sports Network
And speaking of five threes,
00:10:21
Get Defensive Sports Network
and But
Kyrie Irving's New Contract
00:10:22
Get Defensive Sports Network
yes, I agree with you.
00:10:22
Get Defensive Sports Network
He is very, very aware of the history and things like that. And this is going sound shady, but I really, truly don't mean it like this. I don't think there's anything left for him to accomplish. I think he is...
00:10:33
Get Defensive Sports Network
he is
00:10:33
Jordan
What else could he do? Because ultimately...
00:10:34
Get Defensive Sports Network
I know this one, but I'm saying like, I don't want it to come off like I'm like, I'm doubting him or that like, I'm saying like, he's not, I'm more so just saying like, he's the number one, he has the number most points scored. He's been MVP multiple times.
00:10:46
Get Defensive Sports Network
He's been finals MVP. He's been conference MVPs. He's been, you know, um he's been a champion multiple times on multiple teams. Like he's done all that someone could do in an NBA career.
00:10:58
Jordan
There are literally two things that he hasn't done yet. He hasn't played for 23 years, which no one has else has done.
00:11:05
Get Defensive Sports Network
Ever. Yeah.
00:11:06
Jordan
And i think maybe it's Elgin Baylor. I looked it up and then I forgot it. i literally saw like 30 minutes ago. but he's like 50-ish games away from playing the most games of all time.
00:11:16
Get Defensive Sports Network
The most.
00:11:18
Jordan
So he already has the most minutes, but he's like 50-ish games away. And he typically plays 50, 60 games, even when he's been a little injured, like he's probably going to get to 50 games this year.
00:11:25
Get Defensive Sports Network
Yeah.
00:11:27
Jordan
So like really the only thing left is playing year 23, which no one else has done. If he plays these 50 games, he'll also have the most games played all time to go with all of his other most records.
00:11:31
Get Defensive Sports Network
Yeah.
00:11:38
Jordan
But the other thing is just like, like you're saying, what does a fifth, championship due to his legacy. It's cool. He wants one. I want one for him. I think he would very much appreciate winning one with Luka to be next to Luka for Luka's first. like i like There are cool things that he could do, but there's really nothing else for him to do, like you're saying. I've been saying for a while, once I realized that it was 22 and no one's played 23, then I think next year is his last year.
00:12:07
Jordan
But then at the same time, this sort of kind of goes into it a little bit.
00:12:11
Get Defensive Sports Network
So for the numbers of it all, the player that played the most games is Robert Parrish. He played 1,611 games.
00:12:19
Jordan
Ah, that was a bit later.
00:12:21
Get Defensive Sports Network
And LeBron has played 1,562 games. So 50-ish.
00:12:26
Jordan
So yeah, literally 50 games.
00:12:29
Get Defensive Sports Network
He's flirting with the most games. and And honestly, I hope he gets there. i mean, the and nba is 272 games per season. and So I'm sure he'll he'll he will hit that milestone, even to your point, even if he's a little injured.
00:12:39
Jordan
For him not to for him in i go wood
00:12:42
Get Defensive Sports Network
yeah
00:12:42
Jordan
for him not to get the milestone, he would literally have to miss the most games in a single season that he's ever missed in his his entire career.
00:12:47
Get Defensive Sports Network
and his In his career. Yeah.
00:12:49
Get Defensive Sports Network
Yeah.
00:12:50
Get Defensive Sports Network
So he's, yeah. And that's the thing. I'm just like, I personally, that's why i was like, I think it's good defensive sports networks stance that it's probably just the sheer um ability to say that you are, were the longest tenured ah NBA player in the history of the game because Robert Parrish, I think only played 15 seasons, 16 seasons, something like that.
00:13:10
Get Defensive Sports Network
Um, but yeah, I'm here for it. I, it's so weird though. Like not to like get like meta, but like,
00:13:21
Get Defensive Sports Network
I have lived through so many, I feel like, legends, like, retirements. Like, this one is going to be, like, this one probably going the toughest one that i've that I will have experienced. Because, like, I was already kind of distraught when Dirk was retiring.
00:13:34
Get Defensive Sports Network
Because I am i am a Dirk fan. He is who made me fall in love with basketball. I know a lot of people don't say that. But as a Dallas kid, like, Dirk Nowinski was, like... he was everything. Like, that was one of the things, like, even walking into American the other day and, like, seeing his fadeaway, like, statue in the front, I'm just like, oh my gosh, like, this man used to be, like, he used to run this city. Like, it's Dirk, you know what i mean? So, like, he's who really brought me into the game, fell in love with him, watched him retire.
00:14:01
Get Defensive Sports Network
was always a Kobe fan, but Kobe is a little bit before my time, so, like, it was more like my older cousins and, like, my dad and my uncles were, like, Kobe fans, and so, like, I kind of took that on because, like, my family was really big into Kobe, but, like,
00:14:13
Get Defensive Sports Network
And I also, like I said, now hindsight is 20-20. I still believe that Kobe is one of the goats of the game. Like I said that multiple times on the show, but like watching him kind of do the Mamba out thing and then drop the mic. And then of course, like him dying on top of it wasn't all that great.
00:14:26
Get Defensive Sports Network
Because I 100% believe that if he was still alive, he will 100% be a part of that Golden State ownership group for the Valkyries or at least an ownership group for one of the WNBA teams, that expansion teams.
00:14:38
Get Defensive Sports Network
Like, you know I'm saying?
00:14:39
Jordan
It depends on what information he knew because I think he's from Philly, so he could have waited out for that one.
00:14:41
Get Defensive Sports Network
Yeah. Yeah.
00:14:44
Get Defensive Sports Network
Yeah, he could either way I'm saying like he would have 100% been a part of an ownership group for that.
00:14:48
Get Defensive Sports Network
like he would have been you know He was such a champion of the WNBA. Gianna would have been ah champion. She would have been a champion. She would have been on this UConn championship team as a freshman. So it's just like, yeah.
00:14:57
Jordan
That's insane to believe.
00:14:59
Get Defensive Sports Network
like So it's just it's just hard to like wrap your head around that. but like And then even Vince Carter. like I was always a fan of Vince Carter as well. He's also before my time, but like I remember when he was on the Mavericks and like all of that. So it's just like, when LeBron actually retires, like that's going to be like...
00:15:14
Get Defensive Sports Network
I know. Like, I don't even know how to feel. Like, I don't know.
00:15:19
Jordan
Might set a thug tier two.
00:15:20
Get Defensive Sports Network
I might.
00:15:21
Get Defensive Sports Network
Like, it's going to be like, to like, dang, like, this is the end of an era.
00:15:24
Get Defensive Sports Network
You know what i mean? Like, this is the end of an era.
00:15:27
Get Defensive Sports Network
Like, and he's done so much and it's so crazy, like, how long I feel like we took it for granted. You know what i mean?
00:15:35
Get Defensive Sports Network
No, we like like the public and not like ah those of us and as individuals, but I think like for a long time, it was it was taken for granted.
00:15:42
Jordan
I know, the collective we, but I just had to distance myself from that.
00:15:44
Get Defensive Sports Network
Yeah. Yeah. it was For a long time, it was taken for granted what it was that we were actually witnessing. And that happens a lot of times with really, really great players.
00:15:51
Jordan
And I really don't believe i really don't believe that like our LeBron post-morning is going to be like three hours. um but like I really don't believe that LeBron is really going to be understood and respected for like another five years after he retires.
00:16:02
Get Defensive Sports Network
Yeah.
00:16:04
Jordan
Although we're starting to get some of it now because the players that he retired he played with yeah is retiring.
00:16:06
Get Defensive Sports Network
Yeah.
00:16:11
Jordan
And this is the thing that always think that people forget. Some of the Jordan legacy, right? And I want to be clear. This is not a comparison. Some of the Jordan legacy is because he retired. So then you get the people who hated him when he played five, ten years after, he's the best player.
00:16:29
Jordan
He's this, he's that.
00:16:29
Get Defensive Sports Network
yeah
00:16:30
Jordan
You get the stories. You get the documentaries.
00:16:31
Get Defensive Sports Network
yeah
00:16:32
Jordan
You get the, like, people aren't talking about LeBron when they're playing, right?
00:16:37
Get Defensive Sports Network
yeah yeah
00:16:37
Jordan
The only reason Steph ever says anything good about LeBron now is because they're both close to retirement. Ten years ago, Steph wasn't saying good things about LeBron and vice versa.
00:16:42
Get Defensive Sports Network
yeah
00:16:46
Jordan
So it's like, when LeBron retires, and Steph, and KD, and you have Dwyane Wade, and you have Carmelo Anthony, and you have Although he's stupid, but you have Gilbert Arenas. You get these players in these spaces, right? Because, like, think about it.
00:17:02
Jordan
MJ has Charles Barkley anytime, right? He has shot but he has players. You get Scottie Pippen and these things. So I think part of the LeBron โ part of everyone, right? Like, you didn't hear you didn't hear the Kobe stories until he retired.
00:17:15
Get Defensive Sports Network
Oh yeah, 100%.
00:17:15
Jordan
They weren't talking. They weren't talking. Like, not โ of course โ
00:17:17
Get Defensive Sports Network
No one was speaking fondly about him really almost until after he died too, really.
00:17:18
Jordan
but Right. Especially the the the side things, the like taking players under his arm, the mentorship, those sort of things, because he wouldn't want those stories out.
00:17:26
Get Defensive Sports Network
Yeah. Yeah.
00:17:30
Jordan
He doesn't want to talk about how he's mentoring Devin Booker when he's still playing against Devin Booker. You what And so like...
00:17:34
Get Defensive Sports Network
yeah
00:17:36
Jordan
I do think that some of the respect and the a admiration, like some of it, the taking for granted, it's just not going to happen until he retires because of just the atmosphere of it. You get the documentary, you get the things, and people are going to be more willing to talk about it when they're retired, which we're starting to see on the podcast, and then when he retires.
00:17:53
Get Defensive Sports Network
Yeah.
00:17:55
Get Defensive Sports Network
Yeah. And I think it's also just like, we, once we, I feel like once we experienced the NBA without LeBron, that's when it's going to be like, oh my God, like we were witnessing the best to ever do it.
00:18:09
Get Defensive Sports Network
And I think people know that.
00:18:11
Get Defensive Sports Network
I think people know that it's just a matter of like, because he's still playing, it's easy to like act like it's not happening. But I'm like, once should we get that one good season, two good seasons without him and,
00:18:22
Get Defensive Sports Network
It's literally like โ because NBA, frankly, even with the way that they handled the NBA finals, you could tell they ain't got no storylines outside of LeBron Child. They ain't got nothing.
00:18:31
Jordan
Which is their fault.
00:18:31
Get Defensive Sports Network
So they're on fault. So even experiencing the NBA and watching them try to build storylines and build whatever it is that they're going build outside of him, that's going be enough for people to be like, damn, like this he really was a GOAT.
00:18:46
Get Defensive Sports Network
Like he really was.
00:18:47
Get Defensive Sports Network
But, yeah, like all the players, like even with โ To transition into our next news piece, speaking of players who deny player options, Kyrie Irving has denied his player option, and he signed a three-year deal for $119 million dollars with the Mavericks, which means that I am โ this is brilliant for my brand because this means that Kyrie may very well retire a Dallas Maverick in that โ That right there, my friends, is a win in my book. So he will be on his 17th year by the time that this contract expires.
00:19:15
Get Defensive Sports Network
And as we know, you know, that's usually around the time where people start having those conversations. He's 34, 35 years old. So, um but he signed for three years, which means that this ACL injury is something that he plans on fully recovering from and then playing a few seasons off of.
00:19:29
Get Defensive Sports Network
which is really, really exciting. But it's just so crazy to think like these, oh like we had the OGs, obviously the the Dwayne Ways, the Chris Boshes, the Carmelo Anthony's, the, all of those guys, like we had those OGs and now it's like, these guys are becoming the OGs. And I feel like I grew up with them. Like, what do you mean Kyrie is going to be on his 17th season? Like, I feel like he just, I feel like he just got drafted. Like what the heck?
00:19:52
Get Defensive Sports Network
But, um, yes. So he's go to be on the Mavericks for three years. I'm,
00:19:58
Get Defensive Sports Network
I don't care if he sits on the bench for three years. I am thrilled that Kyrie Irving is going to be in a Mavericks jersey for three more years. um Hopefully, hopefully, that means that that, to me, that shows his intentions that he's trying to bring a championship to the city.
00:20:13
Get Defensive Sports Network
So, with him and AD and now Cooper Flagg, because Cooper Flagg has officially been drafted to the Mavericks. i don't know why there was all these random weird conversations about the Mavericks needing to trade the draft pick.
00:20:26
Get Defensive Sports Network
Are you insane? This is our first draft pick since like 1989. First number one to pick since like 1989. Like there was a video that went viral the other day of our last number one draft pick meeting our new one. And here he's old. He was drafted in 19, what did I just say? nineteen eighty one 1981. Mark Aguirre was our last number one pick.
00:20:49
Jordan
And also Cooper Flagg is, as I've said, and this is not my original thought, but as I've said, and people have said, Cooper Flagg is the best American prospect in since Zion, maybe?
00:20:59
Get Defensive Sports Network
yeah
00:21:05
Get Defensive Sports Network
American, yes.
00:21:06
Jordan
Like prospect, yes.
00:21:06
Get Defensive Sports Network
Yes. American, yes.
00:21:07
Jordan
but but Specifically American, because for a while they were all born.
00:21:08
Get Defensive Sports Network
Yes.
00:21:11
Get Defensive Sports Network
It was all, yeah.
00:21:11
Jordan
There was your Wendy's and your like American
00:21:13
Get Defensive Sports Network
Yeah.
00:21:14
Jordan
like like american
00:21:16
Get Defensive Sports Network
SGA and yeah.
00:21:16
Jordan
Yeah, the best American prospect since maybe Zion.
00:21:17
Get Defensive Sports Network
Yeah.
00:21:20
Get Defensive Sports Network
Yeah. yeah
00:21:22
Jordan
And then like ultimately, right like maybe Anthony Edwards right becomes like ultimately has a better career. But like when we're talking about on paper, pen to paper prospect, Cooper Flagg is more highly regarded than Anthony Edwards was and a lot of other people.
00:21:30
Get Defensive Sports Network
Yeah. It's Cooper Flack.
00:21:34
Get Defensive Sports Network
Yeah. Yeah.
00:21:36
Jordan
So um yeah, and so that's cool. yeahll Y'all got the two YCs down there.
00:21:40
Get Defensive Sports Network
It's cool. I'm screaming. It is really, really cool to also have, but we're the sixth franchise in 35 years, to have three number one picks on the same team at one time.
00:21:51
Get Defensive Sports Network
That's Anthony deb and Edwards, Anthony Davis, Kyrie, and Cooper Flagg all on the same team. So that's pretty iconic. I don't necessarily think that that means that we are like a shoo-in for a championship, but it's cute. Cause I don't trust AD to stay healthy.
00:22:08
Get Defensive Sports Network
So
00:22:09
Jordan
And ultimately, you really can't trust Kyrie to stay healthy either, unfortunately.
00:22:12
Get Defensive Sports Network
I don't, but here's the thing about Kyrie. Okay. And I don't know, maybe this is just me being a Kyrie supremacist.
00:22:20
Get Defensive Sports Network
Kyrie to me has more grit though. Like he's going to try to like play through things and sort of manage things and deal with things. Whereas I feel like AD is so quick to sit down.
00:22:32
Get Defensive Sports Network
He's so quick to be like, oh, my shoulder hurts. i'm I'm sit two games. You know what i mean? Like that's my problem with AD.
00:22:36
Jordan
Yeah, but the problem Kyrie is when he gets injured, he misses a lot of time. So you could argue that he does play through the minor things, but he misses like half a season when he gets injured.
00:22:41
Get Defensive Sports Network
He's injured. Yeah, that's true.
00:22:47
Get Defensive Sports Network
Yeah, he'd be injured, injured.
00:22:47
Jordan
And it it doesn't get better as you get older, especially the style of play that he has.
00:22:48
Get Defensive Sports Network
Yeah.
00:22:51
Get Defensive Sports Network
Yeah.
00:22:52
Jordan
So not wishing me on him. I want Kyrie to have a ah good three healthy years.
00:22:55
Get Defensive Sports Network
Yeah.
00:22:55
Jordan
One retired, getting another championship would be cool. Like I have, I i like Kyrie when he's not talking. Um, but like once he starts talking it's like yeah but when he's not talking it's like okay okay great basketball player probably the most guardable player unguardable player of all time offered up some of his salary to the wmba he's kind of really carrying that like the kobe mantle of like being the face especially as an active player he's always at wmba games again he offered his salary for the flight program even though they denied it this During the fights, a lot of the WNBA players wear his shoes.
00:23:04
Get Defensive Sports Network
ah
00:23:08
Get Defensive Sports Network
he He is he is a you know...
00:23:35
Get Defensive Sports Network
yeah
00:23:36
Jordan
But then he starts talking. He says the earth is flat. it's like, shut up.
00:23:38
Get Defensive Sports Network
he is a peace and love flat earther he is he is you know here's the thing to me though there are worse there are worse ideologies than being a flat earther like tyler tyler hero talking about he don't believe in history before 1950 there's a plan there i'm sorry if kairi thinks the earth is flat whatever that's fine
00:23:39
Jordan
Shut up. Oh, my God, bro. Stop talking. You are so great when you don't speak.
00:23:58
Jordan
Nope. I'm not whatever in that.
00:24:00
Get Defensive Sports Network
It's because, because like that to me is like, that to me is like silly shit.
00:24:01
Jordan
That's also not the only stupid thing that he said. That's also not...
00:24:04
Get Defensive Sports Network
Like that's like, duh, we know the earth isn't flat. Like whatever. That's what you think. That's fine. We have actual NBA players who like are like predators and abusers and like all of these things.
00:24:15
Jordan
Comparing them. but like with like like That's not even a comparison. That's not even worth talking about. like I understand that Kyrie's not there.
00:24:20
Get Defensive Sports Network
I'm just saying like Kyrie is like, that's like nothing.
00:24:21
Jordan
i still just like him better when he doesn't speak. That's all.
00:24:24
Get Defensive Sports Network
I mean, that's also fair. That is also fair.
00:24:26
Jordan
That's it. But, yeah, no, it'll be it would be cool. It would be cool if he can win the championship in Dallas. I have no hate or ill will. i don't I feel nothing for Dallas. So, like, I don't โ he's at the Cowboys.
00:24:37
Get Defensive Sports Network
I feel nothing for Dallas.
00:24:37
Jordan
So, like, like if I don't care if they win or not.
00:24:38
Get Defensive Sports Network
Thank you.
00:24:40
Jordan
It would be all right. um Although I do want them to โ like, I do want them to fire Nico and then immediately win. Like, that be so great for me. That would be great for the Brian.
00:24:47
Get Defensive Sports Network
We're not firing Nika.
00:24:48
Jordan
Speaking of who we do like to hear talk, because don't like hearing Charlie talk. I like everything else he does. I just don't like to hear him talk. We do love to hear Maria Taylor talk.
00:24:59
Jordan
And Maria Taylor will be talking. She will be talking.
00:25:02
Get Defensive Sports Network
She will be.
00:25:02
Jordan
That is what she'll be doing. She'll be doing that for a long time.
Maria Taylor's New Role at NBC
00:25:05
Jordan
She's taking her talents to NBC. she is good I think maybe she's already on NBC. I'm not sure. they the The people be moving around so much. But she is going to be officially the lead studio analyst for the and NBA and the WNBA studio coverage.
00:25:22
Jordan
I like this for multiple reasons. One, gorgeous. Two, very intelligent.
00:25:25
Get Defensive Sports Network
Literally stunning.
00:25:26
Jordan
Three, really good at her job. But four, outside of her, the fact that she's going to do both makes me think that NBC is going to combine their coverage and not do what ESPN and all the other ones did do, which, and I want to be clear because you're going to disagree with when I say this.
00:25:28
Get Defensive Sports Network
Oh, yeah.
00:25:43
Jordan
put their lesser talent on the WNBA coverage until recent until recently, because the ESPN stumbled ass backwards into that all women team.
00:25:47
Get Defensive Sports Network
Oh yeah.
00:25:53
Jordan
That's really, really good. So like, I didn't want you to hear me say that and be like, but what about this? They, they stumbled into Cheney and, and, and that group that they had, they, they put them because they thought there was a second team and then they ended up just being really good.
00:25:57
Get Defensive Sports Network
No, you're correct. You are absolutely correct.
00:26:06
Jordan
This is, it seems like they're very intentionally basically on their own.
00:26:07
Get Defensive Sports Network
Well, they put them because they also had already been doing, like, Elle Duncan had been doing NBA coverage. Shanae had been doing NBA coverage. And then Andrea is, like, fairly new. So they were like, okay, well, y'all do and NBA.
00:26:18
Get Defensive Sports Network
We'll just put y'all on WNBA. It'll be fine. they I don't think they anticipated the level of chemistry that the three of them have. But, like, it made logical sense to put all three of them together. um on a show together. But yes, absolutely. They were picking up whoever was whoever they didn't feel like having on the NBA shows and throwing them on the W, if they even had if they even had WNBA shows.
00:26:39
Get Defensive Sports Network
Okay, because there's also that, where they were only they're only still now only doing pre-post and halftime shows for the nationally broadcasted games. They don't do anything else for, and not even all the nationally broadcasted games, because I was watching Cornhole last week instead of watching the broadcasts.
00:26:52
Jordan
Hey, listen, so I wonder like if it's going to be all of them, like right? If Dwayne Wade's going to be doing both, like if it's going to be one studio for both. I'm not exactly be sure how going to work, but I love Maria Taylor.
00:27:05
Jordan
I love that there it seems like they're going to be doing some sort of combined coverage for both of them, which hopefully means that there's going to be a wealth of coverage for both of them.
00:27:05
Get Defensive Sports Network
Yeah.
00:27:15
Jordan
um And that's great.
00:27:17
Get Defensive Sports Network
Yeah. Honestly, the coverage teams for both Amazon Prime and NBC coming up for the NBA... Bangers.
00:27:27
Get Defensive Sports Network
Both of them. I mean, they've got squads on both sides. Like we've got Dirk and Candace and Dwayne Wade and Steve Nash and some other Taylor Rooks, some other folks for the Amazon Prime side of things.
00:27:40
Get Defensive Sports Network
We've got Michael Jordan, Carmelo, Vince Carter. Like um what's his name? I'm looking at Reggie Miller, like all of those guys for NBC. It's going to be, this is going to be some good, good analysis.
00:27:53
Get Defensive Sports Network
Like yeah ESPN, I am so sorry, girl.
00:27:58
Jordan
his parents fighting for his life
00:27:59
Get Defensive Sports Network
ESPN is fine, that which is why I know that's why they're going to keep it Inside the and NBA alive because they know more than likely going to be the only reason why people will be watching is because we know Inside because inside the and NBA has a legacy.
00:28:10
Get Defensive Sports Network
So that's why I'm just like, because other than that, y'all gave me Stephen a and Kendrick Perkins during the finals. I will never forgive them for that.
00:28:21
Jordan
that's a disgusting that is a disgusting group you know who else will not be forgiven
00:28:23
Get Defensive Sports Network
I will never forgive them for that.
00:28:29
Get Defensive Sports Network
Jim Harbaugh.
00:28:30
Jordan
Jim Harbaugh has been added. First of all, I'm on a roll right now. jim harba right yeah Jim Harbaugh has been added to the hacking lawsuit against the ex-Michigan assistant.
00:28:33
Get Defensive Sports Network
Your segues. Yes.
00:28:40
Jordan
I do not want to get stuck on this because we spent a lot of time on it and it's going piss me off and make me very angry. But as a quick reminder, recap, introduction for those of you who do not know, there is a staffer on Michigan.
00:28:44
Get Defensive Sports Network
yes
00:28:52
Jordan
who had some heinous crimes. Essentially, he had some sort of software where he was able to break into thousands of athletes, largely female, um and get into their phones, their social media, um their private spaces um somehow.
00:29:12
Jordan
And he was like, not just doing it, he was like tracking it, like literally would like um like in his own like little online notebook or whatever, talk about their body types, talk about their sexual preferences, talk about if they had any nudes in there, rating them, things like that.
00:29:25
Get Defensive Sports Network
rating them.
00:29:29
Jordan
And the FBI and the people who looked at it said like, this is the biggest thing that we've seen of this type because he said most people who do this is like, it's stalking or it's bribery, at like something like that.
00:29:40
Jordan
Like they're trying to ransom something. No, no this dude was just like cataloging female athletes.
00:29:45
Get Defensive Sports Network
He was doing it for fun. It was his hobby.
00:29:46
Jordan
just Just weird. And so the this lawsuit essentially is saying that at a certain point, Jim Harbaugh and some people at Michigan found out this was happening. This is still towards the end of the tenure now that they know that this making me better.
00:30:00
Jordan
Eventually, they found out that this was happening and that he was hacking, and they didn't fire him. And they're saying that if he fired him, that that's an extra two, three, four, however many months of access that he would not have had.
00:30:10
Jordan
That's extra time for these athletes, again, largely female, to know that their privacy has been,
00:30:16
Get Defensive Sports Network
I've been violated.
00:30:17
Jordan
ah violated There's also a lawsuit against Michigan as a whole because they tried once they did find out, Michigan, the school, tried to hide it, and they didn't tell their athletes because, of course, he was doing it at Michigan's campus.
00:30:18
Get Defensive Sports Network
ye
00:30:28
Jordan
But he was also doing it like at D3 schools. Literally, the people were like, we don't even know how he found out about some of these athletes. like He was just doing stuff. So, General Arbaugh has been added to the the lawsuit because they're basically saying that he knew and he did nothing about it.
00:30:41
Get Defensive Sports Network
I mean, that sounds about right because he knew about the cheating too. So like that, that all of this sounds about right. You know what makes me sad?
00:30:50
Get Defensive Sports Network
Michigan has such a great legacy. You know what i mean? And it's like, this is, this is going to be a part of it now. Like, ew, are you not embarrassed? Like, are you not embarrassed?
00:31:01
Get Defensive Sports Network
Like you have put, you are now the pimple on the booty of Michigan's legacy. Ew. Gross. Like, hate that for you. Because, again, I'm not, a as y'all know, I'm not the biggest Michigan fan because I don't believe in cheating.
00:31:15
Get Defensive Sports Network
But even before that, like, Michigan has a legacy. Michigan is not, like, just some Rudy Pooh random D1 school. They have a legacy. And for all of this stuff to be going on, like, child. It's kind of the same thing with, don't remind me, which school was it? The school where the coach was harming the children for, like, years.
00:31:31
Get Defensive Sports Network
I want to say Penn State, and that's not correct. um
00:31:33
Jordan
ah Yeah, no, it is, but it wasn't the coach.
00:31:35
Get Defensive Sports Network
Okay, okay.
00:31:40
Get Defensive Sports Network
I watched the documentary on
00:31:41
Jordan
It was someone, it was someone, was like, I don't even remember his job. He was like a booster or someone in the athletic department.
00:31:46
Get Defensive Sports Network
Oh, oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, you're right. But it's just, it's stuff like that.
00:31:50
Get Defensive Sports Network
Like, these legacies are so important and you are over here doing weird stuff. And I feel like that's the thing that makes it the worst. And this is the only thing say about it is like, this was dead ass like a hobby of yours. Like, you were out on the field doing whatever they were doing because he was an ex-assistant.
00:32:04
Get Defensive Sports Network
He did something. You out here, you doing whatever.
00:32:06
Get Defensive Sports Network
And you went home and you got yourself a glass, you got yourself a cold, frosty beer and you sat down and started doing this.
00:32:14
Get Defensive Sports Network
Regular people knit. game go on walks you out here playing in people's social media and minding their business that is so
00:32:23
Jordan
they literally They literally said that they had to go, like, you gotta remember, Michigan is probably the largest employer in the state of Michigan.
00:32:34
Get Defensive Sports Network
right mm-hmm
00:32:36
Jordan
ah IT department. I mean, if you've ever had a school property, right, where you try to do certain things or whatever, and it blocks it, and you said, you can't do this, you can't do that, especially if you worked at a school, they have to have internet that works for thousands of people at the same time.
00:32:46
Get Defensive Sports Network
Yeah.
00:32:51
Jordan
Like, they have legitimate IT departments. I say all of this to say that they had to take his computer outside the university because they could not encrypt it. the software that he had on his work computer was so heavy that the IT department at the University of Michigan, IT department that serves IT for thousands of students and staff and employees and various different things, has to literally restrict student access to birth certificates and health records and social security numbers.
00:33:25
Jordan
Like literally IT at my job and all of them because you work at a college, you have to have certain access. if like like ah what my My last job, I could see social security numbers because the access that I had and a couple of my teammates couldn't, like so a couple my coworkers couldn't, which means the IT is able to put on my account that says I can see social security numbers, but this person can't because of this part of our job.
00:33:49
Jordan
like That is how in-depth their IT is at these colleges and all of this stuff, and they could not encrypt the laptop.
00:33:52
Get Defensive Sports Network
Oh yeah
00:33:57
Jordan
So like, that like, yeah.
00:33:57
Get Defensive Sports Network
That's some That is just I just am so I'm just so Disappointed I'm just so disappointed And also like I'm tired of hearing Jim Harbaugh's name And him still having a job
00:34:00
Jordan
don't wanna talk about no more. I hope he goes to jail for forever. Put him under the jail.
00:34:11
Get Defensive Sports Network
personally so anyway speaking of jobs um the PAC-12 is doing is work you know the devil works hard but the PAC-12 works harder and they are trying so hard to create a conference to the point where they have now extended an invitation to Texas State come on segways I don't know anything about this you' the one who told me so tell us about the PAC-12
00:34:32
Jordan
Basically, a quick recap, Pac-12 had 12 teams, maybe you've had 14. All of them left. Some of them went to the Big 12, some of them went to the ACC, some of them went to the Big 10. They left with two teams.
00:34:44
Jordan
The two teams did not want, they wanted to keep the Pac-12 branding. especially because they had some misguided thoughts that they were going to be able to stay as a power conference.
00:34:54
Jordan
That ended up not happening, but they wanted to keep the Pac-12 branding. They wanted to keep the money They want to keep the property. So they went about rebuilding the conference.
00:34:59
Get Defensive Sports Network
correct
00:35:01
Jordan
NCAA rules says you need to have eight teams to be a conference. So they had to find eight teams. They took some team from the Mountain West. They took some team from other places for up to like a year.
00:35:13
Jordan
They were stuck at seven. And so they finally found their eighth team. It will be official today on Monday as you listen to this because Texas State has a um they have a, what's it called?
00:35:21
Get Defensive Sports Network
i and the
00:35:30
Get Defensive Sports Network
One more season with the Sunbelt.
00:35:31
Jordan
conference well no yes but they have a school administrators have to approve this they have a meeting with the school administrators on monday to officially accept the bid and then they will be going in in 2026 and the pac-12 is now the state conference and you ask why do i say that what do you mean by that that doesn't make any sense well let me read you the schools
00:35:32
Get Defensive Sports Network
Yeah.
00:35:36
Get Defensive Sports Network
Oh, yeah,
00:35:53
Jordan
Oregon State, Washington State, Boise State, San Diego State, Colorado State, Utah State, Fresno State, and Texas State. They are the state conference.
00:36:03
Jordan
They are the conferences of states, baby.
00:36:03
Get Defensive Sports Network
Oh,
00:36:05
Jordan
They are the conferences of states. Put in the branding.
00:36:06
Get Defensive Sports Network
oh God.
00:36:08
Jordan
They are the state conference.
00:36:08
Get Defensive Sports Network
I can't.
00:36:09
Jordan
And this is funny, one, because it's dumb, but also it's just very interesting because like if you know anything about why certain schools are state schools or not, It's like a historical thing and like whatever, but also a lot of these these schools are like technically like the little brothers of their conference. Like Oregon State is the little brother to Washington. Washington State is the little brother to Washington.
00:36:29
Jordan
um Boise State's also the little brother to Washington because I think they're also in Washington. um Colorado State's is a little brother to Colorado. Utah State's a little brother to Utah. Fresno State is just in the state of California.
00:36:40
Jordan
Like, most of these schools are the same with San Diego State. They're just kind of in the state of California. But it's just interesting that, like, they didn't do that on purpose, of course, but, like, these are also the schools that were the little brothers and and wanted to get up and wanted to try to make something for themselves, and it just happened that they got a collection, right? Like, like they did so it's just funny. But, like, literally every school and is a state school. So, yeah.
00:37:03
Get Defensive Sports Network
I will be calling the PAC 12 state conference from now on. That's hilarious.
00:37:07
Get Defensive Sports Network
I didn't even notice that until you pointed it out, but yeah, they're going to be starting in 2026 because again, Texas state has its obligation to the Sunbelt conference for one more year. um But the, basically the, they had extended an invitation to them.
00:37:25
Get Defensive Sports Network
um Hold please. prior to July 1 in order to avoid a double a doubled exit fee to leave the Sun Belt. um And so had had they done it before July 1st, they would have had to pay $10 million dollars to get out of the Sun Belt.
00:37:38
Get Defensive Sports Network
So that's why they are going to fulfill their...
00:37:41
Jordan
No, I think it's... Isn't it they still have to pay $10 and they would have had to pay $20? Or it they have to pay $5?
00:37:46
Get Defensive Sports Network
No, it's they would have had to pay $5 million.
00:37:48
Get Defensive Sports Network
And then they would have if they did it before, they would have to pay $10 million.
00:37:51
Jordan
gotcha, gotcha, gotcha, gotcha. Okay.
00:37:52
Get Defensive Sports Network
So...
00:37:53
Jordan
So, yeah. And for a school like that, $10 million is a lot of money.
00:37:54
Get Defensive Sports Network
But yeah.
00:37:58
Get Defensive Sports Network
um But yeah, so um this will be interesting. This will be cool. well We're getting the resurgence of the Pac-12 from a football standpoint, obviously. um So good times.
00:38:09
Get Defensive Sports Network
love that for them.
00:38:11
Get Defensive Sports Network
um That is lot of news. That is a lot of news. um Also, whilst we were sitting here talking, Julius Randle did sign a three-year $100 million of with the timber wolves which is a great move for him honestly he had a really really great season last season and i think him and anthony edwards together could be very very lethal so we will see because the timberwolves are hunting for a championship and they are going to get there we had this conversation last week um five years maybe three um
00:38:46
Get Defensive Sports Network
We shall see.
WNBA All-Star Voting Process
00:38:48
Get Defensive Sports Network
Okay, so in the power sweep, we are going to do a quick WNBA update because All-Star voting, for the fans at least, has concluded.
00:38:57
Get Defensive Sports Network
So what then what that means now is the way that the WNBA All-Star is set up, it's similar to the NBA where 50% the all-star selection is based on fan voting, is based on media, the other is based on the players voting themselves um And then they kind of aggregated and go off the averages and then pick the roster from there. And then whichever like players have like ties, the fan vote is what breaks the tie.
00:39:24
Get Defensive Sports Network
And then also with that being said, they pick six front court players and four backcourt players. So six power forwards or centers and then four guards. um And then after that, they pick like ah reserves, if you will.
00:39:37
Get Defensive Sports Network
um So what the voting is for is we're voting for the starters, basically. And then there's more reserves that get picked after that. So the 10 people who end up getting picked are not the only all-stars. They still end up with like 24 or whatever the case is.
00:39:52
Get Defensive Sports Network
um So fan voting has concluded. And I'm sorry.
00:40:04
Get Defensive Sports Network
Because before I start, we have already gotten a reputation on TikTok for being like Caitlin Clark hating podcast, which is fine.
00:40:12
Jordan
The Reese's Pieces need to step it up. What are we doing?
00:40:15
Get Defensive Sports Network
this is not This is not a Caitlin Clark hate moment, I promise. It's a Caitlin Clark confusion moment because she's having literally the worst shooting performance of her entire career.
00:40:25
Get Defensive Sports Network
And yet she is the top voted all-star because people are delusional. And this is what's going to piss me off about new fandom in the WNBA. when there are players who are currently having all-star seasons who maybe didn't have them last season or even season before that, who deserve that shine, is getting overshadowed by people forcing Kaitlyn Clark into this all-star conversation when frankly, she's not having an all-star season.
00:40:50
Get Defensive Sports Network
argue with somebody who gives a damn because you're not goingnna argue with me and tell me that she's having an all-star season out of all the guards that are available in the WNBA right now. She is not one of them that is having an all-star season.
00:41:01
Get Defensive Sports Network
She's just not. And that's okay. Cause I also hot take. Don't believe that Angel Reese is fully having an all-star season either. Not over the other, um, Front court players. She's having a great season, but there are other front court players, i.e.
00:41:16
Get Defensive Sports Network
Alyssa Thomas, Asia Wilson, Brianna Stewart, even Aaliyah who are having better season who are having a better season than she is currently, right? So yes, they both made the all-star game last year.
00:41:29
Get Defensive Sports Network
I don't think Aja Reese or Kaitlyn Clark needs to be in it this year. Sue me. Sue me, okay? But as of right now, if we were going just off of fan voting,
00:41:40
Get Defensive Sports Network
These are the top 10 players. Kaitlyn Clark, Nafisa Collier, Aaliyah Boston, Asia Wilson, Brianna Stewart, Paige Beckers, Kelsey Mitchell, Kelsey Mitchell, Kelsey Mitchell for sure.
00:41:45
Jordan
Yes. Yes. yes Yes. Maybe. Yes. Maybe also with Kelsey. don't know.
00:41:57
Get Defensive Sports Network
Sabrina Inescu, Lexi Hull, and Kiki Iria-Finn. I want to be very clear. Four out of the top 10 are players on Indiana.
00:42:07
Jordan
Is Kelsey really having... First of all, ain't never said a bad word about, oh, she legend Kelsey Mitchell. But is she really having an all-star season?
00:42:12
Get Defensive Sports Network
Oh, of course not. She is. i
00:42:15
Get Defensive Sports Network
I would put Kelsey Mitchell there.
00:42:16
Jordan
There's no way in the hell Lexi Hall is. I'm sorry.
00:42:18
Get Defensive Sports Network
thank and do you see why Do you see where I'm going with this? see where I'm going with this? There's some weird shit going on with the voting. I'm sorry. And this is this is no shade it to Lexi Hall. I'm a Lexi Hall fan. She's Rose Basketball Club. I will always love her, okay?
00:42:32
Get Defensive Sports Network
However, comma. even with yeah Even to that point.
00:42:37
Get Defensive Sports Network
Huh?
00:42:38
Jordan
Nothing. You said however comma.
00:42:40
Get Defensive Sports Network
Even to that point.
00:42:42
Get Defensive Sports Network
Right. However, comma, she even didn't really contribute too much to the Rose Basketball Club winning the Unrivaled Championship.
00:42:52
Get Defensive Sports Network
Okay? So, she was just there. And she was as she was listening to Wipe Me Down by Boosie. But, I mean, not Wipe Me Down.
00:42:58
Get Defensive Sports Network
What's the other one? Set it off.
00:43:00
Get Defensive Sports Network
However... So to me, that just lets me know that there's some fraudulent voting going on because four out of the top 10 players are on Indiana, which goes to show that the people who are doing the most voting are only watching Indiana.
00:43:00
Jordan
set it off in this mother...
00:43:16
Jordan
Yeah. Which has always been the problem with fan building.
00:43:21
Get Defensive Sports Network
Yeah, I agree.
00:43:23
Jordan
I mean, it's a problem in every sport, right? Like, there are years that you could argue that LeBron shouldn't have been the starter, right, or the captain.
00:43:32
Get Defensive Sports Network
Yeah.
00:43:34
Jordan
There are years that Steph shouldn't have been on there. there are yeah Kobe shouldn't have been on there. his lot Like, every great got one or two all-star nods just off the โ yeah, you know, like Dwyane Wade's last one.
00:43:42
Get Defensive Sports Network
Where you were like, yeah, yeah.
00:43:48
Get Defensive Sports Network
Like, we're glad you're here though.
00:43:48
Jordan
But like, yeah, yeah.
00:43:49
Get Defensive Sports Network
We're glad you're here.
00:43:50
Jordan
But like, but like, like Kayla just got there. It's whatever. We're going to do the thing today. But yeah, fan voting is off always. This is particularly off because like Lexi, come on dog.
00:44:00
Jordan
But it's just keep like, I don't know that Kiki is top 10 and kike been hot Kiki's having a decent, a decent rookie year.
00:44:02
Get Defensive Sports Network
And it's no shade. Like it's really no shade.
00:44:09
Jordan
And I love that Washington is involved in this because they haven't had much hope, right?
00:44:12
Get Defensive Sports Network
Yeah.
00:44:14
Jordan
Like this is like, I can look at this on the outside and be like, okay, Washington.
00:44:14
Get Defensive Sports Network
Yeah.
00:44:17
Jordan
Okay, I see you have a little bit of hope going now because Kiki came, y'all y'all doing a little something, y'all little happy with your team, whatever.
00:44:22
Get Defensive Sports Network
Kiki, Sonia. Yeah.
00:44:24
Jordan
But it's just like 10? 10?
00:44:27
Get Defensive Sports Network
But, like, Brittany Sykes is having the season of her fucking life.
00:44:30
Get Defensive Sports Network
She's having the season of her life. She's averaging 25 and 4, I believe, as far as, like, 20 points, 5 assists, 4 rebounds, maybe, 2 steals, something like that. She's having the season of her life, and she's 28th in all-star voting.
00:44:44
Get Defensive Sports Network
Like... When realistically, the Mystics are as successful as they are really off the back of Brittany Sykes, not necessarily Kiki and Sonia. Like, Kiki and Sonia are contributing a lot as Rickies, but what's winning those games, what's closing the games for them is Brittany Sykes. And also, realistically, especially in the last, like, five to ten games, what's really been doing it is whats her Shakira Austin. And she's not even on this list.
00:45:09
Get Defensive Sports Network
She's not even on this list. And Shakira Austin is also having the season of her life. So it's just like... The realism is not in the room with us. And what's unfortunate is that the media is also incredibly delusional.
00:45:19
Get Defensive Sports Network
And they do believe that being the Lulu is the Solulu. And they're going to push Caitlin Clark into this as well. When, again, realistically, the girl has gone three for 27 from three for her last four games.
00:45:31
Get Defensive Sports Network
Or two games, three games, whatever. She's not having the season that she was having Last year that, in my opinion, warranted an all-star selection. So that's the part that's frustrating. But I also agree. I also feel like there are just so many players that are getting overlooked just in general, not even like, not to like harp on the Indiana thing, but it's like,
00:45:52
Get Defensive Sports Network
You know, Asia Wilson is having a great season, but Jackie Young is also having an amazing season. if we're going to talk about the Las Vegas Aces, I would put Jackie Young on the all-star roster easily. And I don't think she's even a part of this either. She's not on.
00:46:05
Get Defensive Sports Network
ah She's number 24 in voting. Same thing with Alicia Gray.
00:46:09
Jordan
Behind Sophie Cunningham, by the way.
00:46:11
Get Defensive Sports Network
Behind Sophie Cunningham. Who has played basketball for the last 10 games.
00:46:21
Get Defensive Sports Network
Walking into a game where... Don't get me started. i already posted a TikTok about how I felt about this translation nonsense. Anyway. But again, Alicia Gray. She's having the season of her life. Having one of the most efficient performances that she's had in a while.
00:46:33
Get Defensive Sports Network
She's number 14. So it's like at least she's somewhere up there. um Alyssa Thomas. Alyssa Thomas is about to break a record that Diana Taurasi set. And she's number 21. Like, I don't know. It's just...
00:46:48
Get Defensive Sports Network
it's just, it's just interesting. Like if you look down the list, pretty much every single player on the Indiana roster is on here. Natasha Howard is 17, 16.
00:47:00
Get Defensive Sports Network
Sophie Cunningham is number 23. Damaris Dantas
00:47:07
Get Defensive Sports Network
is number 30. And DeWanna Bonner, who hasn't played since May, number 38.
00:47:21
Jordan
So we're not happy with fan building.
00:47:24
Get Defensive Sports Network
Like, I just need everybody to just get real. But, yeah. So, you know, not a fan. But, anyways, let i'm the the roster obviously is not finalized yet. um But, yeah, what are your thoughts?
00:47:38
Get Defensive Sports Network
Because I know you obviously don't watch the WNBA as heavily as I do, but you're you're plugged in.
00:47:44
Jordan
mean, for me, i just feel like
00:47:49
Jordan
It's ah sort of one of those things where you hope that in a couple of years it just like evens out, where it's almost one of those things where you have to take the good with the bad, like when you have to take the increase in fandom with also the increase of stupid fans, because we're so used to stupid fans in every other sport.
00:47:55
Get Defensive Sports Network
Yeah.
00:48:07
Jordan
But the WNBA community is not really used to stupid fans because it was such a tight knit community.
00:48:07
Get Defensive Sports Network
Mm-hmm.
00:48:12
Jordan
And so it's kind of annoying. I also don't think fan vote should be 50% of anything. I think that's really, really dumb. ah Max, it should be 40. I think coaches and players or however you do it should outvote that.
00:48:23
Jordan
um ah But that can't be changed.
00:48:23
Get Defensive Sports Network
I agree.
00:48:25
Jordan
I mean, I think they do that in all of the ones that have fan voting. um You know, Caitlin Clark is going to get a couple for like the impact that she's had in the league. And I guess that's fine as a player i would think it was bullshit like i think you should like I think players should know when they're really all-stars when they're not. But like i mean you're going to accept it. express I don't know if it's tied in the contracts like it is in the NBA, but especially if it's tied in the contracts.
00:48:48
Jordan
I think it's just another one of those stupid things that you sort of just have to maybe accept as it is for the growth that's coming into the league while also being like, are you kidding me? like I'm sorry, Kaitlin Clark is most likely going to be a captain.
00:49:01
Get Defensive Sports Network
Like, this is a joke.
00:49:05
Jordan
Like, not just that she's on the roster, she's going to be a captain. And that, to me, is insane. But... um
00:49:11
Get Defensive Sports Network
And that's... I think that's what's throwing me, I guess, is, like, the... the concept of her being a cat. Because realistically, I'm never going to sit here and act like I don't think Kaylin Clark is going to get selected. Like, of course she is.
00:49:24
Get Defensive Sports Network
like And this is the same thing with Andrew Reese, because I can sit here and say both of them don't shouldn't be on the all-star team as starters, but they're going to be on it because they're the most popular players in the W, right? So like that is something that is going to happen. They're going to have a lot of all-star bids just because they're popular, and that's okay.
00:49:41
Get Defensive Sports Network
um it But it definitely is the the captain, the starter thing for me that I'm like, this This is not giving that. But I'm never going to sit here and act like, oh, yeah, she just shouldn't be on the roster. That's not going happen. That's not going happen because also the end of the day, the WNBA has shown over and over again that if there's nothing else that they give a damn about, it's viewership. That's why the Indiana Fever has 41%.
00:50:05
Get Defensive Sports Network
nationally broadcasted games, which is more than the damn team that won the championship last year, right?
00:50:10
Get Defensive Sports Network
So the WNBA cares about eyeballs, period. So therefore, Angel Reese and Kaitlyn Clark are going to be on the all-star team, period. It doesn't matter. It's just like, it's left-sided in a way that's like annoying.
00:50:23
Get Defensive Sports Network
And it's, I don't trust the media to make it make sense. I don't trust the media to make it make sense. Now the coaches and the players, they're going to make it make sense. But also again, their vote doesn't count for as much.
00:50:34
Get Defensive Sports Network
So um to answer your question, yes, the players do receive compensation as benefits as part of their participation in the All-Star Game. They get a $2,575 bonus. Ooh, they could buy a purse.
00:50:45
Get Defensive Sports Network
um And then the player who gets MVP gets $5,150. Ooh, they could buy a nicer purse. um And then the skills competition winners prior to Kia's involvement or was it Kia or was it Ally? Yeah.
00:51:00
Get Defensive Sports Network
Aflac. It might have been Aflac. um Prior to their involvement, got $2,575. So again, another nice purse. But as we know, last year, it was actually $50,000 per competition for skills and three-point. And Alicia gab Gray, of course, became the first player to win both. So she won $100,000 that day.
00:51:17
Get Defensive Sports Network
I want to say it was either Kia or Aflac. that furnished those funds and they did it like in the middle of the season but on top of that she also got two thousand five hundred seventy five dollars um and then um they get they get first class travel and all kinds of other stuff um it was aflac it was aflac um so they will be adjusting that um compensation in the upcoming cba because of course those numbers are laughable.
00:51:48
Get Defensive Sports Network
um So yeah, and I think I would imagine that with a lot of these things, especially with Aflac kind of doing the thing for the for the skills competitions and three point competition, I wouldn't be surprised if like coach and like some other brands that they have created that they had deals with are going to do some prize packages for all star as well.
00:52:06
Get Defensive Sports Network
So I wouldn't be surprised if it was like the MVP gets, you know, $20,000 furnished by, you know, whatever brand. um But that's what's written into the contracts.
00:52:18
Jordan
Yeah, for sure. All right, cool. So next in the WNBA, a quick rookie update. This is not my ranking. This is Kendra Andrews from ESPN's ranking, but I wanted to just use it as a way to talk about ah certain players and see if you had any thoughts.
00:52:29
Get Defensive Sports Network
Come on, Kendra.
00:52:34
Jordan
So this is the top eight rookies right now. Number one,
00:52:38
Get Defensive Sports Network
Oh, it's so hard. Oh, we're starting one.
00:52:39
Jordan
unsurprisingly, but also slightly surprisingly, just because of how the number two has been hooping, is Paige Beckers. Paige Beckers is averaging 17.7 points per game, 5.8 assists per game.
00:52:45
Get Defensive Sports Network
Oh, yeah.
00:52:50
Jordan
She, at least in the month of June, at least for most of the month of June, led all of the NBA in scoring um at with 20-something points per game.
00:52:56
Get Defensive Sports Network
Yep.
00:52:59
Jordan
uh she is hooping her her rookie mixtape is crazy um like she's been putting people in a blender just doing some nasty things and then it's funny when she's like yeah kairi's my favorite player it's like i fucking obviously like like look at how you play get the ball on the string you you was watching was watching kairi highlights like you kairi highlights i can tell um so she she's
00:53:16
Get Defensive Sports Network
Like, hello?
00:53:22
Get Defensive Sports Network
Yes. But of course she also did become the first player in WNBA history to have a game with 25 points, five assists, two steals, two blocks, and zero, count them, zero turnovers.
00:53:33
Get Defensive Sports Network
So.
00:53:34
Jordan
Just efficient. And honestly, she's been playing good, but not great because her three shot isn't falling. She would be averaging 20 points a game if her three percentage was closer to what it was in college.
00:53:41
Get Defensive Sports Network
Oh.
00:53:45
Jordan
If you remember last week, we said that she was a 50-40-90 player.
00:53:46
Get Defensive Sports Network
Yeah. yeah
00:53:48
Jordan
ah She is like, she's like 30-something, like low But also, I think it's 33-38.
00:53:52
Get Defensive Sports Network
Yeah. 33, 34. is also shooting the most contested three she's ever shot in her career as well.
00:53:55
Jordan
but also i think it's thirty three thirty
00:53:59
Jordan
Yeah, but like and but that's the thing. I don't say that as critique. I just say that as the fact that I don't think for her career, she's going to be a low 30s three-point shooter.
00:54:02
Get Defensive Sports Network
Yeah.
00:54:07
Get Defensive Sports Network
Yeah.
00:54:07
Jordan
So if she was even if it even if she was 38, she went from 42 to 38 because the W is a little bit harder, she'd be averaging over 20 points per game.
00:54:15
Get Defensive Sports Network
Yeah.
00:54:16
Jordan
So she's been good, but she still has better to do, which of course, she's a rookie, those kind of things. It's just like crazy that she's still hooping, and like certain parts of her game that you expected to translate haven't fully translated yet.
00:54:29
Get Defensive Sports Network
I also think that there's a level of like the habit building that she hasn't been able to do because she sat out a couple games, came back, and then she even sat out last night.
00:54:38
Get Defensive Sports Network
So I think there's a level of like, also she's playing with one of the best scorers in the league too.
00:54:45
Get Defensive Sports Network
So there's a level of like her averages have to go down because she's not the scoring. ah She's not the main scorer, or she shouldn't be technically, um that she was a at UConn.
00:54:56
Get Defensive Sports Network
But also to be able to average that while playing with Arike is a feat in and of itself.
00:55:03
Jordan
Number two, Kiki Arafan, a player that we sort of, and by we, I don't mean the royal, I mean the royal we, not me, not you.
00:55:10
Get Defensive Sports Network
U.
00:55:12
Jordan
The royal we as a collective of people kind of think they forgot how good of a basketball player she was because USC's coach wasn't great personally. um Like she was, that I'm sorry.
00:55:23
Get Defensive Sports Network
Oh my gosh, that coach. What is that lady's name?
00:55:24
Jordan
Like she was Lindsey Gottlieb, I think.
00:55:27
Get Defensive Sports Network
There we go.
00:55:27
Jordan
She did not. And listen, you to know why I know that name? because she played around, like, stop playing. She did not design an offense that worked well with Kiki and Juju.
00:55:38
Get Defensive Sports Network
No, she said, everybody give the ball to Juju and just keep doing that.
00:55:41
Jordan
And so, like, everyone's like, man, Kiki asked now. It's like, nah, she wasn't asked before this. And then, unfortunately, Juju went out, and Kiki was balling, because it's just like, like, there was just a better way for them to play together.
00:55:51
Get Defensive Sports Network
The ball was in her hands more.
00:55:54
Jordan
And it would have helped both of them. Like, it would have helped, whatever. We're not even getting to this right now.
00:55:59
Get Defensive Sports Network
I will say during the game that Juju got injured, you could tell that there was a lot more focus on getting the ball to Kiki prior to when she got injured.
00:55:59
Jordan
Kiki is a good player when...
00:56:09
Get Defensive Sports Network
So I was like, oh man, like she's they're finally figuring it out.
00:56:11
Get Defensive Sports Network
And then...
00:56:13
Jordan
Right. But Kiki is a good player but when you have a good team and good offense around her. And again, I want to be clear, this is not anti-Juju. This is anti-Lindsey because Juju and Kiki should have been an amazing one-two combo.
00:56:23
Get Defensive Sports Network
Yes.
00:56:26
Jordan
And they were still good in their own right.
00:56:26
Get Defensive Sports Network
Yes.
00:56:29
Jordan
They just weren't as good as they could have been because of the offense that was put around them.
00:56:29
Get Defensive Sports Network
Yeah.
00:56:32
Get Defensive Sports Network
There was no synergy. Yeah.
00:56:32
Jordan
Anyways, Kiki has been hooping in 15 games.
00:56:36
Jordan
She's averaging 13 points, eight rebounds. She's recorded five double-doubles. And she's shooting nearly 50% from ah just in the field. um She's the third most point by rookie, third best shooting percentage by a rookie, playing at least 12 minutes this season. She has been playing very, very good.
00:56:53
Jordan
And so has her teammate, who is number three on this list, Sonia Citrone, a guard for the Mystics. She's averaging 14 points per game on 47% shooting, has been a reliable defender.
00:57:09
Get Defensive Sports Network
Great. like
00:57:10
Jordan
Yeah, and and Sonia Centro at Notre Dame was a three-level scorer. She averaged 14-5-2 while shooting 37% at Notre Dame. So some of that is โ I mean, the points are the same, 14.2 in the league, 14.3 at Notre Dame.
00:57:28
Jordan
she's she's She's been hooping. um And so it's given โ no, ahead.
00:57:30
Get Defensive Sports Network
She was arguably the most go ahead. She was arguably the most pro ready rookie in that entire draft class, like hero ready.
00:57:38
Jordan
Yeah, so she she she stepped in and has been doing her thing. So those are the top three. Four, this article has Lexi held Phoenix Mercury. Lexi is, let's see.
00:57:57
Jordan
She hasn't started, but she's averaging 9.5 points 21 minutes.
00:57:57
Get Defensive Sports Network
Lexi... Lexi how does...
00:58:03
Jordan
And she has the fourth best defensive rating among rookies. ah Last week, yeah.
00:58:08
Get Defensive Sports Network
She be locking hoes up.
00:58:12
Jordan
Yeah, so she's not a starter, but she's ah a very good depth piece, a very good defender, and is putting in 10 points a game, according to this article.
00:58:13
Get Defensive Sports Network
Unfortunately...
00:58:22
Jordan
going to be honest. I do not know much about this person.
00:58:26
Get Defensive Sports Network
She is a 25-year-old rookie. um She played at DePaul. She graduated in 2022, and she's kind of bounced around and finally made a roster this year with Phoenix. Unfortunately, she did suffer a partially collapsed lung recently, and so she will be on the bench for a little bit, but... um it was a big news thing because she ended up having to take a train back for a three-day ride on the train back from their New York game because she couldn't fly um because of that. But she's been, yeah, defensively really, really great.
00:58:56
Get Defensive Sports Network
She's been hitting some threes. She's already hit a career high. I think she scored like 23 or 25 points when they played the Valkyries.
00:59:03
Get Defensive Sports Network
um There we go. um So, yeah, she's pretty good. She's pretty good.
00:59:12
Jordan
Yeah. And then number five, they have man Monique Akoi Makani, also Phoenix Mercury, who is shooting 44.7% from three.
00:59:18
Get Defensive Sports Network
Phoenix. Oh my gosh.
00:59:21
Jordan
has had, and she's also shooting 100% from she has had
00:59:24
Get Defensive Sports Network
From the three.
00:59:25
Jordan
and she's also shooting a hundred percent from the streetto line with eighteen attempts
00:59:31
Jordan
because people are going to be like, need to go 100 wing, 5 for 5. No, no, no. She's 18 for 18. 18 is enough to miss a couple. um So she she's been playing very well as well.
00:59:42
Jordan
And then honorable mention, because not going go through all of these players. Honorable mention Tahina Pow Pow, who we've already mentioned, is shooting 40% the arc. She's... she
00:59:50
Get Defensive Sports Network
She has the best three-point percentage in the W.
00:59:53
Jordan
Yeah, crazy. She leads, and she's shooting 54%.
00:59:58
Get Defensive Sports Network
Yeah.
00:59:58
Jordan
And on Sunday against Chicago, she made five threes on six attempts. Like, she has been hooping.
01:00:02
Get Defensive Sports Network
Yes.
01:00:05
Get Defensive Sports Network
Hoping.
01:00:06
Jordan
Hooping. So it's just like, yeah. So she's on this list. um Honorable mention they put Dominique Malanga, who is interesting. She um is only playing eight minutes a game.
01:00:17
Jordan
um She's playing behind Nneka Ogumike, but like, Malanga is a player that people are saying, which I didn't agree with, but I understood for what she could provide, that they're saying long-term, she's a chance that she ends up a better player than Paige.
01:00:18
Get Defensive Sports Network
Yeah. Yeah.
01:00:31
Jordan
I just think Paige is one of one. But Dominic Malanga is a player who has a really high ceiling for whatever reason, whether it's rotation or because she's raw or whatever.
01:00:34
Get Defensive Sports Network
Huh? 19.
01:00:42
Jordan
She came from international basketball. She's also one of the youngest people in in the league.
01:00:47
Get Defensive Sports Network
nineteen
01:00:47
Jordan
um She is um not playing as much, but is showing a lot of her talent. So WNBA rookies. Rookies are having a good year. Paige is Paige. Paige is balling, having one of the best rookie seasons of all time.
01:01:00
Jordan
um And unfortunately for Paige, they're just not winning. But I think this is good. i also think it's great for Washington, which we which we briefly mentioned, because...
01:01:11
Jordan
They have, they're really working on their building blocks. Because Washington also has, what's Shorty's name?
01:01:19
Get Defensive Sports Network
Aaliyah Edwards.
01:01:19
Jordan
The, ah, lovely Edwards. Like they're just building a the talented squad, man.
01:01:22
Get Defensive Sports Network
Yes.
01:01:24
Jordan
like I really hope that in a couple of years that it really, like, they really become contenders because they have young players who are gelling, but they're hitting on these picks.
01:01:24
Get Defensive Sports Network
Their front court is insane. and
01:01:34
Jordan
So it's like Washington is going to have a bright future.
01:01:34
Get Defensive Sports Network
Yes.
01:01:37
Get Defensive Sports Network
They have the youngest team in the WNBA right now. Nobody... they Nobody on the team has been in the league longer than three years except for two players.
Mystics' Strong Front Court and Facilities Impact
01:01:46
Get Defensive Sports Network
And that is Brittany Sykes and um Stephanie Dolson.
01:01:49
Get Defensive Sports Network
Their front court is insane. They've got Kiki Iria Finn, Aaliyah Edwards, Shakira Austin, and Stephanie Dolson. Like, hello, that's an all-star roster just by itself. Their back court is obviously also insane with Brittany Sykes.
01:02:02
Get Defensive Sports Network
and Sonya Citron. Plus, they also have Suge Sutton having one of the most productive seasons of her life. So the Mystics are not a joke. The Mystics beat um the Aces on Friday.
01:02:11
Get Defensive Sports Network
So that is not that is a not an easy feat to beat the Aces.
01:02:16
Get Defensive Sports Network
And I mean by like 10 or 15 points, like by a lot. So I think it's adorable though, because Kiki Iryafin has spoken about how she modeled her game after Asia Wilson. um And you see a lot of that when you watch um her play what the Carolyn Peck says that Kiki Iria Finn plays like an old soul.
01:02:33
Get Defensive Sports Network
I see exactly what she means by that. Like, you could just tell how grounded she is. Like, nothing, like, phases her. Like, she's she's in it. She's going to do the things. The same thing with, like, Dominique Malanga. Like, she didn't have the best start, and think it's because she was just nervous.
01:02:46
Get Defensive Sports Network
But she's playing behind one of the best frontcourt players to ever pick up a ball in Nneka Agumake. So just the mentorship a but just the mentorship in and of itself is going to create great things for Dominique. She hasn't played a lot because, again,
01:02:59
Get Defensive Sports Network
She's playing behind Ezi Magbogor and Neku Kumake, like two all-star frontcourt players. So that's, you know, she if there's one thing that the Seattle Storm is going to do, they're going to treat rookies like rookies.
01:03:15
Get Defensive Sports Network
Like, that is just what is going to happen. um The last thing I'll say about this is I tweeted this the other day, and I really, truly believe it. Last year's rookie class was the most notorious.
01:03:26
Get Defensive Sports Network
This year's rookie class is the most skilled. For sure.
01:03:29
Jordan
Yep. I can see that for sure. and the And the one thing that i want I would like to say as a precursor for December, January, February, whenever it happens, if you would like to remember, if you would like a moment to take it take a walk with me, um almost every good player in the WNBA signed a one-year contract because they were waiting for the new CBA.
01:03:40
Get Defensive Sports Network
What month?
01:03:48
Get Defensive Sports Network
Oh,
01:03:52
Get Defensive Sports Network
the new CBA.
01:03:54
Jordan
And so if you were insert good player on a one-year contract, And you're going into free agency with all the Buku coins that you all have earned after fighting for your life, fighting for your right.
01:04:09
Jordan
You tell me not looking at Washington. You tell me Washington comes to you and says, we all were missing as a star. We got Kiki. We got Aaliyah Edwards. You saw what Kiki did in rookie year. You saw what Aaliyah did in rookie year.
01:04:19
Get Defensive Sports Network
Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm.
01:04:20
Jordan
You also saw what Aaliyah did in Unrivaled. You saw what Sonia Cichon is doing. One, if not all three of them, is going to be in Unrivaled next year where they get to talk and they get to play and they get to hoop before a free agency. And then you get all this money and Washington's like, you sure you don't want to play with us?
01:04:39
Jordan
So like Washington, if they're, I don't know anything about their management. i don't know anything about the people in charge, the way they're drafting. It seems like they probably have some good people in charge.
01:04:47
Get Defensive Sports Network
Yeah, Monumental Sports Group is amazing.
01:04:47
Jordan
If Washington handles this right, if Washington handles this right, they could instantly be a national champion. Yeah. National championship contender, a WNBA champion, whatever.
01:04:59
Get Defensive Sports Network
Yeah, yeah, i know saying.
01:04:59
Jordan
They could be a title favorite, a title contender as soon as next year, because there is going to be so many good players that looking.
01:05:10
Jordan
The other thing is, I don't know about the facilities. Players also really care about facilities.
01:05:12
Get Defensive Sports Network
They don't have any.
01:05:14
Jordan
So like, there's going to need to be a plan to do some facilities to get some of these players. But if they have that, if they play it right, if they do, if they play their cards right, they could instantly be a contender because they have now a very skilled young core.
01:05:18
Get Defensive Sports Network
Yeah.
01:05:28
Jordan
And that would be, I could see that being very attractive to some of the players. So we'll see.
01:05:36
Get Defensive Sports Network
i think it's also think it's also fair to say that a lot of players only signed one year. just so they could take advantage of the CBAs doesn't necessarily mean that they're going to move from the teams that they're on.
01:05:43
Jordan
Absolutely, yeah. Not all of them, but some will.
01:05:46
Get Defensive Sports Network
It's just that they wanted to. Yeah. Yeah. I'm just saying like, I think cause some people were like, Oh, in Nafisa Collier is going to be a free agent.
01:05:52
Jordan
She's not leaving.
01:05:52
Get Defensive Sports Network
Nafisa Collier is not leaving Minnesota.
01:05:54
Jordan
No, come on. sad like
01:05:55
Get Defensive Sports Network
Okay. Let's all Nafisa Collier.
01:05:58
Get Defensive Sports Network
She grew up down the street and idolized. What's the lady's name? Why her name just leave my spirit. Um, Maya Moore. i was like, why did that?
01:06:07
Jordan
That one, i was like...
01:06:07
Get Defensive Sports Network
Look, it's it's the Tony Parker, Tim Duncan moment. Idolized Maya Moore, and now she gets to basically be the next Maya Moore. That lady is not leaving Minnesota. Everybody needs to take a deep breath. Asia Wilson, same thing. She has made it very clear that she will be in Vegas for the rest of her life.
01:06:22
Get Defensive Sports Network
Everybody calm down. But yeah, I do think that some of the more notable free agents who only sign one-year contracts, that's going to be really interesting to see the movements. and it's going to be really interesting to see which one of those one-year contracts I need.
01:06:32
Get Defensive Sports Network
end up in unrivaled and how that plays a part in everything because I do think a lot of the offseason movement was also a result of unrivaled conversations and the whole experience and all of that so like that'll be really interesting like even like with Alyssa Thomas like I don't think Alyssa's gonna leave Phoenix I just think she's just gonna sign a bigger contract with Phoenix because what she's doing right now they took Phoenix from where they were last year which is frankly not that great to they're the second in the WNBA right now everybody be like Minnesota New York Minnesota New York Minnesota New York
01:06:36
Jordan
Yes. Yep. Phoenix is hooping.
01:07:04
Get Defensive Sports Network
ah we are we talking about Phoenix? Because Phoenix is 12-4. And Phoenix is winning. i mean, you went to a game. You went to the New York ah Phoenix game ah last week.
01:07:13
Get Defensive Sports Network
Like, they look amazing.
01:07:14
Jordan
They look good. Yeah.
01:07:17
Get Defensive Sports Network
So um'm I also don't see Alyssa Thomas as being like, okay, bye, I'm leaving. Because also, again, to your point, the most attractive teams are always going to be the teams that have facilities. And at this point in time, that is the aces.
01:07:28
Get Defensive Sports Network
That is Phoenix. Chicago's will be done. I think in 2026, I believe New York's will be done in 2027.
01:07:32
Jordan
Something like that.
01:07:35
Get Defensive Sports Network
Dallas will be done in 2027. So still that's only five teams are how many I just mentioned that have Seattle.
01:07:40
Jordan
Seattle? Did you mention
01:07:41
Get Defensive Sports Network
Oh, Seattle does have a facility as well. You're right. Six. So realistically the top destinations are going to be the teams that have facilities too.
01:07:49
Get Defensive Sports Network
Um, So we'll just have to see because that's the other thing. Like with Connecticut, like there's still no plans for Connecticut to have facilities and now the team is on sale. So who even knows what's going happen with Connecticut? There still seems to be no plans for the Sparks to have facilities. Oh, the Golden State Valkyries also have facilities.
01:08:02
Jordan
Yeah, but theirs came with it.
01:08:03
Get Defensive Sports Network
Realistically.
01:08:05
Jordan
Like, the Valkyries...
01:08:05
Get Defensive Sports Network
Oh, well, yeah, but I'm saying like they have they have facilities.
01:08:06
Jordan
We'll have to have a... Yeah.
01:08:08
Get Defensive Sports Network
So I could also see, especially now with the way that the Golden State Valkyries are now worth more than New York. So I could also see a lot of free agents maybe potentially looking at Golden State and being like, hmm.
01:08:19
Get Defensive Sports Network
Maybe I want to be over there. So.
01:08:22
Jordan
Yeah. And so I definitely think that you have a good point, but I also think the Valkyrie is ah another piece to this. The Valkyrie,
01:08:34
Get Defensive Sports Network
Like if there's a big foreign free agent.
01:08:34
Jordan
the the Valkyries literally bet
01:08:39
Jordan
Well, what i was going to say is the Valkyries literally bet on the fact that players would leave next year, which is why they drafted the way they did to build a core.
01:08:44
Get Defensive Sports Network
Yeah. yeah
01:08:47
Jordan
to be So like i don't I definitely think you're 100% right that the top five players, the top like the people who are synonymous with their franchises aren't going anywhere. But there's going to be movement in that second tier, which is still going to be really good players.
01:08:58
Get Defensive Sports Network
Yeah.
01:09:01
Jordan
and Washington supposedly...
01:09:01
Get Defensive Sports Network
Yeah. yeah
01:09:04
Jordan
Washington could potentially be one of those. Also, just Googled something just to see, and it looks like the Mystics have a practice facility.
01:09:13
Get Defensive Sports Network
Do they?
01:09:17
Jordan
they share the Wizards.
01:09:20
Get Defensive Sports Network
Okay, I about to say, because they're owned by the same, they're one of the few WNBA situations where they own that where they own the the team. And it's monumental sports and entertainment. But ah yes, it is a shared facility with the Wizards, which is fine.
01:09:35
Get Defensive Sports Network
Like, there's nothing.
01:09:36
Jordan
But theirs is rated as one of the best in the league, but it's not their own, which does still need to come.
01:09:43
Get Defensive Sports Network
It's not theirs. Yeah.
01:09:46
Jordan
But I think because they at least have access to one, it's not it wouldn't scare people away, but it it is something they are going to need to eventually have their own, as in what everyone else is doing.
01:09:51
Get Defensive Sports Network
That matters.
01:09:54
Get Defensive Sports Network
That matters.
01:10:01
Get Defensive Sports Network
No, yeah, that makes sense. I didn't know that they had I forgot that they do share a facility. So realistically, like, hopefully this is not even going to be a conversation in 2026, 2027, because all of the WNBA teams will have facilities.
01:10:12
Get Defensive Sports Network
I'm really hoping that that's like a part of the expansion agreement is that you have dedicated facilities like the port i'm thinking like portland and toronto or at least with toronto they're sharing with the raptors until they have their own um because professional basketball players need professional athletes need facilities and that's just that is just the long and short of it but i'm saying like as far as like destination teams The teams that have dedicated facilities are obviously going to be the most attractive.
01:10:43
Get Defensive Sports Network
um But to your point, when you're talking about talent, I think the Mystics are very attractive. I think Seattle is very attractive. I think Golden State is very attractive when talking about talent.
01:10:54
Get Defensive Sports Network
I think the Aces is also very attractive. um So, yeah.
01:10:59
Get Defensive Sports Network
I also do think a lot of players will be fighting to get to Phoenix as well. But we'll just have to see because โ Roster expansion needs to be the next thing, but
Emma Hayes and US Women's National Team Success
01:11:09
Get Defensive Sports Network
we can't get into that right now.
01:11:09
Get Defensive Sports Network
So, okay, let's get to our last two minute report.
01:11:12

01:11:16

Sorry. Yes.
01:11:16
Get Defensive Sports Network
Go ahead.
01:11:16
Jordan
It has been a year since Emma Hayes has taken over U.S. Women's National Team Soccer. U.S. Women's National Team Soccer was at the lowest point it's ever been, meaning they didn't win the Olympics.
01:11:24
Get Defensive Sports Network
Yes.
01:11:29
Jordan
I'm sorry. They didn't win. Well, no, they didn't win the Olympics, but then they also didn't win the World Cup.

01:11:33
Jordan
And they're like, whoa.
01:11:34
Get Defensive Sports Network
Yeah.
01:11:36
Jordan
we We don't do that. We lose it. What is going on? So they went out and they took arguably the greatest coach in women's soccer from one of the teams in England. i don't remember which one, but they were the one that was winning all the things.
01:11:47
Get Defensive Sports Network
Chelsea.
01:11:47
Jordan
And Emma Hayes was like, and it's crazy because like, it's like she was such a good coach that like people were like, they were a little Chelsea.
01:11:47
Get Defensive Sports Network
She was Chelsea.
01:11:54
Get Defensive Sports Network
chelsea she she was chelsea
01:11:56
Jordan
They were a little bit wary because they're like, you hired her, but she has such a good job. She was basically like, I'm not coming until the Chelsea season's over. So like she got hired and let's call it October.
01:12:09
Jordan
i don't remember exactly when, we're going to say the fall. And she said, but we're in season, so I'm not coming till the season's over. So she was doing double duty. And they're like, hey dog, you do realize that when you first start, we're going to be in the Olympics.
01:12:20
Jordan
And she said, I know, but I have a commitment to Chelsea. She won another ring with Chelsea because that's what she does. She managed the US Women's National Team while working at Chelsea.
01:12:26
Get Defensive Sports Network
Period.
01:12:30
Jordan
And then the very first thing that she did was the Olympics. And what did we do? Win gold. I'm just saying. so And it was very interesting because it was like she didn't really know the team. So there was a lot of conversation. Like, they basically didn't sub.
01:12:44
Jordan
Like, she basically didn't sub. Like, she just played the starters. She played the people that she knew was good. Because, like, i don't really know this team. And also, it's the Olympics. And also, you hired me because the last coach didn't win at the Olympics and didn't win the last World Cup.
01:12:56
Jordan
And that was too much failure for the United States because we are elitist when it comes to women's soccer. So we have to get gold.
01:13:01
Get Defensive Sports Network
Hello. Yeah.
01:13:03
Jordan
Like, it's basically like like, I want to develop, right? Because the biggest thing, if you don't follow soccer, the biggest thing happened with the U.S. women's soccer... is that they were just in a transition period it's as what happens with everything right it currently happened with the the nba uh uh and partially the women's team in basketball is that all of the great players were older right um they started megan rapino was retiring right um um i'm not going to name the names because i'm going to forget them but like all of the people that we grew up on the people that was winning those first two straight World Cups and the golds, right?
01:13:25
Get Defensive Sports Network
yeah
01:13:39
Jordan
The Allie Morgans, like all of them, they were getting older. They were in their 30s. And so there was this time period where it was like, you have these old players that you want to continue with, but you're not developing the young players, which is the issue with the last coach.
01:13:52
Jordan
And so it puts you in an awkward space where you're in between two generations and the older players were losing their talent a little bit and the younger players weren't ready for the stage. And boom, we lost. And so she had to balance that.
01:14:03
Jordan
And in this year, she's been excellent. We've won almost everything. But the thing that she's done the best, in my opinion, and why I'm most excited is after we won gold at the Olympics, she basically told all of the older established players. And when I mean older, they're like fucking 25.
01:14:17
Jordan
Like, that's how young we are right now. Trinity Rodman, like those players, she basically told them, like, you good. We don't need you right now. go Go build your family. Go do whatever. A couple of them got pregnant. They're playing for their team.
01:14:30
Jordan
And she's basically just taking a roster full of 18-year-olds, 18, 19, 20, 21, and we taking them to these tournaments because she's basically like, we don't have a pool right now. like The older players are gone.
01:14:42
Jordan
Our best players are 22, 22, 24, but we don't have no depth after that. She's already broken the record for the most first-time call-ups, and so she's basically just bringing people up. If you are talented, she's bringing you up, she's letting you try, and she's taking this step.
01:14:58
Jordan
two-ish years to the next World Cup to to get depth. When the really, really big things happen, she does call back Trinity Rodman. She does call back the superstars. But even in some of the bigger ones, she brought in a team of first-time players.
01:15:12
Jordan
And so what's going to happen is when we get to the World Cup, we're going to have our superstars, but we're also going to have a wealth of talent. who's 20, 21, 22, and has had two years experience playing in quote-unquote meaningless games.
01:15:27
Jordan
So when they get to the big ones, they're there. Because ultimately, right, and like Trinity Rodman, all these, and I keep saying them, Trinity Rodman, and Naomi Germa, like those, they've already played in the Olympics.
01:15:30
Get Defensive Sports Network
They're comfortable. Yeah. Yeah.
01:15:38
Jordan
They've already played in the World Cup. They don't need to play in the friendlies. And if you don't know how soccer goes, they do play every year. So like they'll have like the United States will play England. They'll play African teams, they'll play whatever because they have to keep playing.
01:15:52
Jordan
But the big things are obviously the World Cup and the Olympics. So right now, instead of Trinity Rodman and Naomi Germa and like all of these players playing when they go play Chile or when they go play England or when they go play Nigeria, she's she's pulling up the younger players even if that means that we lose, which we haven't really lost, but even if it means that we lose, so then when we get we never in the position again where we don't have a roster.
01:16:18
Jordan
And so it's just been really cool to watch her balance, the fact that You have to win as an American coach for women's soccer because our men's team is awful. But also, how do you get these young? So if you follow along like I have been, and almost every map, there's a new player.
01:16:35
Jordan
There's a player who scored their first goal. There's a player who scored their first um whatever, their first assist, their first match where they had a goal and an assist, whatever, just all of these sort of things.
01:16:46
Jordan
And so it's just nice to sort sort of see it build up. She's been doing a really good job. it was a great hire, which is interesting because the men's team fired their coach and also pulled a really well-named coach from somewhere else after Emma Hayes trying to repeat it.
01:17:00
Jordan
And they're fucking dog shit. So shout out to Emma
Growing Appeal of Women's Sports
01:17:03
Jordan
Hayes. Shout out to the U.S. Women's National Team. Shout out to the only thing that makes it makes me proud to be an American, which is sports every two or four years.
01:17:13
Get Defensive Sports Network
You are
01:17:15
Jordan
Love women's soccer? Yes, I do. I love the U.S. Women's National Team, you can't tell.
01:17:18
Get Defensive Sports Network
so unhinged.
01:17:21
Get Defensive Sports Network
Like, so unhinged.
01:17:21
Jordan
It's not many things that make me proud to be an American, but women's soccer?
01:17:25
Jordan
Dang. USA, motherfuckers.
01:17:28
Get Defensive Sports Network
I mean, I feel the same way. I'm very like, USA, USA. Only for the Olympics. Like, after that, don't. Please.
01:17:34
Jordan
And the World Cup. Throw that in there. Even if you're not watching.
01:17:36
Get Defensive Sports Network
Well, don't watch soccer like that.
01:17:37
Jordan
I'm going to get you into the World Cup in 2027. Whatever. said
01:17:41
Get Defensive Sports Network
That's when it's coming to America, isn't it?
01:17:45
Get Defensive Sports Network
So that's going to be real interesting because we already talking about the the people can't stay even one day after the Olympics.
01:17:46
Jordan
I'm getting you into the world.
01:17:51
Jordan
No, no, no, no, no.
01:17:51
Get Defensive Sports Network
So we're deporting them.
01:17:52
Jordan
That's this year. That's the one next year. That's the men's. The women's is in 2027 or 2028. It's probably still going. It doesn't matter. Whenever the, I don't, nobody gives a fuck about the men's World Cup. They do. I just don't.
01:18:04
Jordan
I'm talking about when the women's World Cup is here, which I don't remember what year that is.
01:18:04
Get Defensive Sports Network
Period.
01:18:08
Jordan
i actually think that might be 2032.
01:18:12
Jordan
So have some time. It doesn't matter. Just know, when the Women's World Cup is here, you're going to be in soccer. That's my goal. We're spending the next couple years on NCAA. You're already in. You're not locked in, but you like it. Like last year was a success. going you another year or two. We're going to really get you into NCAA, college football. You're going to locked in. And then one day i'm just going to switch it, flip it, real quick, and we're going to be talking about women's soccer. Just wait.
01:18:35
Jordan
That's the benefit of the podcast. I'm just going to sneak it in, send you a couple of clips, watch the World Cup, and next thing you know, women's soccer, locked in.
01:18:45
Get Defensive Sports Network
Okay. Okay. um
01:18:48
Jordan
this is my evil This is my evil plan to get you into women's soccer.
01:18:51
Get Defensive Sports Network
I mean, I'm always down to be into more women's sports. I just don't watch soccer. Like even on um Father's Day, listen, because even on Father's Day, we had, we turned on somebody's soccer.
01:18:56
Jordan
I know, because nobody in America watches soccer. like You know, we got be tricked into it.
01:19:05
Get Defensive Sports Network
I don't know. Kansas FC, I think was playing whoever. We turned on somebody's soccer. And my sister, my oldest sister, all of her kids play soccer. So she's, like, all about soccer. She didn't play soccer, but she was she's all about soccer.
01:19:17
Get Defensive Sports Network
And my oldest niece is right now shopping colleges, and she will be playing soccer. Even though she's playing multiple sports, for college she wants to play soccer. um And so it was on the TV, and I was just like, I don't know what's going on. Like, I just โ I don't know. And we were, like, eating dinner, we were, like, talking laughing. Like, my sister would look over and be like, no.
01:19:37
Get Defensive Sports Network
oh man, she shouldn't have done that. and she'd be like, Ayanna, did you see what she did right there? did itdada She should have moved her And I'm like, i just don't know what's happening. like And it's weird because I'm such a sports person. So usually I'm like, I can catch on. like I can act be a part of the convos.
01:19:50
Get Defensive Sports Network
Child, don't know what was going on. and my niece was like, I said, i think I said something like, I know that there's ah defensive players and offensive players, but like technically everybody plays both. And I know like there are certain like positions, like there's out people who play on the outside versus people who play on the inside have different like skill sets, you know, cause I'm not stupid.
01:20:10
Get Defensive Sports Network
Like I understand sports, but I'm just like, I couldn't tell you yeah like what it is like.
01:20:16
Jordan
Let me tell you a secret. I couldn't tell you either. And I don't care to know.
01:20:20
Get Defensive Sports Network
oh
01:20:21
Jordan
know what saying? Like, i I don't need to learn. Like, and maybe eventually I will. But like, I have no interest in learning soccer strategy. I don't want to learn soccer. all of the positions.
01:20:32
Jordan
I don't want to learn the 1-1-3-5-4.
01:20:32
Get Defensive Sports Network
That's like a strategy.
01:20:35
Jordan
I don't care about none of that. I don't.
01:20:37
Get Defensive Sports Network
Yeah.
01:20:37
Jordan
I want to watch it. And I know what's happening. I know what the penalties are. i know why they do like i know why they do certain like set pieces. and like I've learned those sort of things.
01:20:48
Jordan
And those are the things that like I think if you would enjoy it, you need to know. like If something happens and they stop the game and put the ball down, you need to know why they did that. But as far as why they lined up here and this player was running in that, i don't care about none of that.
01:21:02
Get Defensive Sports Network
Couldn't tell you what's going on. i just...
01:21:03
Jordan
And maybe eventually I'll learn. i i literally play the soccer video game.
01:21:05
Get Defensive Sports Network
He said, I have no desire to learn soccer shit.
01:21:08
Jordan
I literally play the soccer video game. And I'm like, I just want to, I just want to, I need 40 goals this season. know what I'm saying? But I think it's also good to have certain sports where you don't need to know all of the things. Like your brain can only hold so much. I don't need to know every soccer strategy and every, you know, but when the women get on there, they start kicking that ball around. Boy, I'm locked in.
01:21:29
Get Defensive Sports Network
said I know what's happening right here and yeah that's my only thing is like I just I don't know but like it's I went to soccer game in person I had a good time so i'm like
01:21:30
Jordan
Every two years. Every two years. And that's what matters.
Love Island's Direction and Fan Reactions
01:21:43
Get Defensive Sports Network
I'm sure like I'll be into it eventually but yes um oh yeah I'm gonna have my kids do all the things like do all the things tell me what you like and we'll just stick with that but I want my kids to have all of like
01:21:43
Jordan
Yeah. Also, i won if I have daughters, I want them to play soccer. That's what bag is.
01:21:55
Get Defensive Sports Network
the opportunities, especially the sports that you kind of have to start young in order to be successful, like the gymnastics and things.
01:22:01
Get Defensive Sports Network
Because, like, with soccer, like, you don't necessarily have to start young with that. Like, you can โ mean, my niece has been playing soccer since she was about four.
01:22:08
Jordan
That's the if you want to be good you guys are you?
01:22:09
Get Defensive Sports Network
But, yeah. Well, at anything, though, right?
01:22:13
Get Defensive Sports Network
But I'm saying, like, you could start at, like, seven and still be good is what I'm saying.
01:22:17
Get Defensive Sports Network
um That was one thing I thought was interesting is that one of the players who got drafted to the NBA, he is from South Sudan, I believe. um he only started playing basketball when he was like 14.
01:22:29
Get Defensive Sports Network
And then he got drafted to the and then he got dropped to the NBA. And he was like, when he started playing sports, he kept being told that he was too tall, ironically enough.
01:22:37
Get Defensive Sports Network
And then he started playing basketball and then he got drafted. And the questions are just so ignorant. We are so ignorant about the African continent, including black people. And I want us to just be better because this lady was asking him like, oh, how do you feel about representing Africa?
01:22:51
Get Defensive Sports Network
The whole continent?
01:22:52
Jordan
Come on dog. Come on.
01:22:54
Get Defensive Sports Network
Anyway. Anyways, for the last two-minute drill, last two-minute warning, last two-minute report.
01:23:00
Get Defensive Sports Network
What is it?
01:23:01
Jordan
It's all your screen shorty last two minute report.
01:23:03
Get Defensive Sports Network
It's not right now. It's not currently, actually. For the last two-minute report, where we talk about things that are not sports-related at all, I can't believe that I have made it this long and I have not spoken about Love Island.
01:23:13
Jordan
I wish you wouldn't. let we
01:23:15
Get Defensive Sports Network
I am.
01:23:16
Jordan
We had a good streak going. We were doing well and here you go.
01:23:18
Get Defensive Sports Network
Nope. Here's the thing, and I'm not going to be on it for a long time, okay? I'm not. I just want to say... I'm rooting. And if you watch Love Island, that you will know who I'm talking about because i don't have time to give you context. But I am rooting for Nick and Sierra or Shelly and Ace.
01:23:31
Get Defensive Sports Network
That is where I'm at. the This show has been such a ridiculous roller coaster in ways that I can't even begin to describe. It's very frustrating because I've been watching Love Island for a really, really long time. Like between all the countries that I watch it in, I've watched over 20 seasons of Love Island.
01:23:48
Get Defensive Sports Network
But America... Yes, but America is just not catching up. So last season, season six was this like the big season that kind of got everybody like into the show. And then the season that's on right now is the season after, right?
01:24:00
Get Defensive Sports Network
And typically when you have a show that blows up, the season after that season is always inevitably going to be worse, right? Because everybody is going to be comparing it to the season before, right?
01:24:13
Get Defensive Sports Network
It's the same thing with Grey's Anatomy. Like some of Grey's Anatomy's greatest seasons are followed by some of their worst, right? That's just how it goes. So with that being said, it's just very frustrating because I feel like production is like doing too much like fan service.
01:24:28
Get Defensive Sports Network
Now we're like, they're on the internet too much and they're trying too hard to to produce the show in a way that like the fans wanted instead of producing it in a way that seems authentic. And there's couples that you're not getting enough screen time of, you're not seeing who they are, you're not seeing their connections because there's too much mess going on with these other people.
01:24:45
Get Defensive Sports Network
It's just, it's kind of frustrating. As a person who really, really loves Love Island, it is very frustrating to see that we are 20 episodes into the show. We've only had one recoupling and the one that we had was where the boys picked The second one, the boys also picked.
01:25:00
Get Defensive Sports Network
We haven't had any compatibility challenges. No one has gone to the hideaway and no one has gone on dates. that We are losing the plot of the show. We're losing the plot. And that makes me sad.
01:25:11
Get Defensive Sports Network
But at the end of the day, i am rooting for Shelly and Ace.
01:25:11
Jordan
ah I hate that. Yes.
01:25:14
Get Defensive Sports Network
I'm always going to root for my black girls. And Taylor will be out of my villa if I have nothing else to do with it because he played in Olangia's face and she is quite literally the most beautiful woman I've ever seen in my life.
01:25:24
Get Defensive Sports Network
So for you to play in her face...
01:25:26
Jordan
Crazy. Beat him up.
01:25:29
Get Defensive Sports Network
I wish nothing but negative things. I hope there's always a cockroach in your house.
01:25:33
Get Defensive Sports Network
So that's going to say about that. But if you're watching Love Island, oh my gosh, let me know like what do you guys think, how you guys feel. i want I love being on the internet. The best thing about Love Island so far has been the internet's reaction to everything.
01:25:45
Get Defensive Sports Network
um So, you know.
01:25:47
Jordan
My favorite thing about Love Island is all of the straight men talking about Love Island unprovoked. but All those jokes are funny. I don't care what you watch. I'm not watching it.
01:26:01
Get Defensive Sports Network
I feel that. and And it's not for everybody. like it's It's not. But as i've been I've been with this show for um some years now. So I started watching. It started in the UK. So i started watching the UK season first. i actually started watching it during COVID.
01:26:14
Get Defensive Sports Network
um Because I was like, I need a show. And
Diverse Paths to Professional Sports
01:26:18
Get Defensive Sports Network
um Vulnerably speaking, like when COVID had first hit, I had some really bad insomnia. So like I was just up all the time. So was like, I need a good long show that's not like Grey's Anatomy where it's like too dramatic and too much trauma is going on. like I just need like mindless TV.
01:26:32
Get Defensive Sports Network
And I started watching Love Island and I fell in love with it. And then i when COVID hit, we were on Love Island season two for USA. So then I started watching USA. And it's always been good. That's the part that sucks is that everybody just caught on last season, but it's always been good.
01:26:46
Get Defensive Sports Network
Now this season is getting weird because it's popular and too much stuff is going on. So, you know, we'll see. But we're about halfway through now and I'm just like.
01:26:59
Get Defensive Sports Network
so
01:27:02
Get Defensive Sports Network
ah
01:27:02
Jordan
my My last two minute report will actually be under two minutes. My last two minute report is very simple. I got 2K 2025 for free and I was going to play it.
01:27:10
Get Defensive Sports Network
What?
01:27:11
Jordan
I played it for a couple of minutes and then I said, don't really like this. So then I was like, oh, it's probably because my player's bad. I'm going to go buy some VC. And then I looked at myself in the mirror and I said, Jordan and Jordan said, what?
01:27:22
Get Defensive Sports Network
buy some VCs.
01:27:24
Jordan
And I said, that's the only way the game is fun because you start out so bad and you gain it so slow. You have to buy it to make your player better. And I almost did it. And I looked at myself and I said, self and myself said, well, I said, why are you doing this?
01:27:37
Jordan
And so I'm about to delete the game, even though i got it for free, because I'm not I'm no longer giving my money to these people who want to make all these video games
Gaming Experience: In-Game Purchases and Scheduling
01:27:46

expensive. And honestly, if I'm going to pay any money, it's going to be to buy NCAA 26, which comes out.
01:27:51
Jordan
And also, speaking of, I'm very distraught because I played that game.
01:27:56
Get Defensive Sports Network
oh
01:27:58
Jordan
Like crazy. When it came out. And I just realized. When it comes out. It comes out on July 10th. You can get early access on July seventh So now I have to sit here and figure out if I'm really going to take my PlayStation with me on vacation or not. Because otherwise, I'm not going to to play it for a week.
01:28:21
Jordan
And I know this is first world problems, very first world problems. But this is a game that I always play when it first comes out.
01:28:25
Get Defensive Sports Network
The first is
01:28:28
Jordan
And I'm not going to be home for an entire week. So like if I buy the early access, I'm not going to play it for a week. And so I'm like, do I want to take my PlayStation? Like, I'm going to be gone for like 10 days, so it would sort of make sense to take it.
01:28:41
Jordan
But this is like a very stupid thing of me. I absolutely hate unplugging my PlayStation and taking it places. I hate traveling with it. It's so annoying. I never do it.
01:28:50
Get Defensive Sports Network
It's kind of heavy too. You have a PlayStation 5, right?
01:28:51
Jordan
I don't take it anywhere. Yeah.
01:28:53
Get Defensive Sports Network
Yeah, it's heavy.
01:28:54
Jordan
Like, we always do the jokes of like, man, like, if he leave his PlayStation at your house, he would I've never done that.
01:28:54
Get Defensive Sports Network
That's...
01:28:59
Jordan
don't like it. Actually, that's not true. I definitely like my PlayStation and Shorty's.
01:29:02
Get Defensive Sports Network
Better not nobody bring their PlayStation to my home. if you bring your If you bring your PlayStation to mine home, I'm expecting half the rent.
01:29:10
Jordan
Yeah, but I definitely, when i was in college, I definitely left my PlayStation Shorty's dorm, but I was also basically living in a dorm. So, like, I wasn't taking it back and forth from her dorm to my dorm, and that's the closest that I could ever take it.
01:29:21
Jordan
So, it's just like, yeah.
01:29:25
Get Defensive Sports Network
I can't breathe, that is so funny.
01:29:27
Jordan
2K sucks. They've ruined it. i'm I'm glad, I'm proud of myself that I did not buy into the 2K system of spending money to make my player better. And I'm also very sad that I think I'm going to be a week behind on Comic Football 26.
01:29:39
Get Defensive Sports Network
Not the system.
01:29:42
Jordan
And literally everyone's going to be talking about it and I'm not going to get a chance to play it. So there's a chance that for the first time in my life, I travel with my PlayStation. And I may do that anyway, because again, I'm going to be gone for 10 days with nothing to do. So we'll see.
01:29:57
Get Defensive Sports Network
You might have to.
