Introduction to the Midsummer Goal Line Football Show

00:00:14
Speaker
What is up, Goal Line listeners? We are back with another Midsummer edition of the Goal Line Football Show. Me and Jordan are going to be talking Colts and Seahawks today and getting you guys caught up on all the rest of the news from the last couple weeks in the NFL. But Jordan, how are you doing, man? I'm good, man. Like you said, it's another summer episode. It's College World Series time in Omaha, so I've been really busy with that.
00:00:39
Speaker
We're actually recording this on a Wednesday rather than a Monday. And we're actually doing this at nine o'clock in the morning, just so everyone's aware. So I have not cracked open a beer yet today. Seth may have, who knows? No, I'm drinking a full throttle energy drink right now. So definitely a change of pace, man. I mean, but yeah, got off for the holiday. And we've both been busy through the evenings, like Jordan said. So we figured we'd take advantage. So definitely a little bit of a change up on the battle rhythm for the goal line this week. Yeah, for sure.
00:01:08
Speaker
Alright man, you ready to talk some football? Yeah, let's do it.

Is Trevor Lawrence Worth $55 Million a Year?

00:01:18
Speaker
Alright, well the biggest news in the last two weeks is obviously Trevor Lawrence's new contract.
00:01:24
Speaker
Dude, him getting paid $55 million a year is absolutely insane to me. I'm not saying he's not good, but $275 million over five years for him is a lot. To me, man, the QB market, it's the airport of the NFL, dude.
00:01:43
Speaker
Nothing makes sense. Everything is crazy inflated. It operates on its own economic scale. I mean, all these guys are getting paid crazy. Tana Hill last year is getting like 25 million from the Titans, dude. Just for a basic replacement level quarterback, man, it seems like the cost of doing business nowadays is $18, $19, $20 million.
00:02:04
Speaker
And a guy like Trevor Lawrence, he's an interesting case because the jury's still out, man. If you just look at the box score, definitely hasn't been there. You guys know I've been a pretty big Trevor Lawrence fan. I picked him to be MVP last year. And if you look at a lot of the hardcore stat nerds, the film guys, the people really breaking down the analytics, it's still pretty favorable for Trevor Lawrence. But at the end of the day, NFL's results-driven business, it hasn't quite been there. Definitely not to be highest paid quarterback in the NFL.
00:02:34
Speaker
Yeah, and you're not wrong. Every month, the QB wide receiver running back market resets like it seems like this is just something that's just going to continue to happen. I mean, dude, we're not far off like we're only $5 million average salary off a year from $60 million for a quarterback and somebody's going to get it.
00:02:58
Speaker
But yeah, I mean, this is the problem. If you don't have a quarterback, you're, you're up shit Creek without a paddle. Like I've watched the Falcons the last three years, not have anybody behind center that was even competent. And the results backed it up. Like they could not win close games because they didn't have a quarterback. They could trust to spread the ball around the field. So Trevor Lawrence is still a really good quarterback, whether or not he's worth $55 million a year. I mean, you can debate it, but
00:03:27
Speaker
They, they believe that that's their franchise quarterback and they got to stick with him. So I get it. I mean, this is just the market we're in now.
00:03:35
Speaker
The other thing is, they're trying to put butts in the seats to make money. At the end of the day, it's still a business. And in a lot of ways, what the NFL is really trying to... These teams are trying to sell to the fans year after year is hope. And I think the belief... I know in my heart, I still believe it. And I think most fans probably feel the same way. Even though it's been underwhelming the first few years, Trevor Lawrence still does feel like a guy that you could win a Super Bowl with. You know what I mean?
00:04:00
Speaker
It's not like breaking my brain to picture him being in a conference championship, competing in the Super Bowl. It's possible that that's me basing that more off what he did at Clemson and all the hype coming in than what we've seen the last couple of years. But I still feel like he's probably making your top 10 list if you put starting quarterbacks most likely to win a Super Bowl currently in the NFL.
00:04:24
Speaker
Oh, yeah, he's he's definitely a top 10 quarterback. I'm I'm not even going to go there with even thinking that that's not a possibility. But again, got to have a quarterback. But this is a results driven league, like you said. And it seems like they always come up short when it matters the most. So I guess it's to be determined what happens from here.

Future QB Contracts: Brock Purdy and Tua

00:04:45
Speaker
The really interesting thing with the QB market, man, because like we both said, it's results driven league. What's going to happen when Brock Purdy comes up for his contract extension? Because outside of Patrick Mahomes, nobody has produced better results on the field the last two seasons than Brock Purdy. And we all know the story. It's been beaten to death by now last pick in the draft. Do you think he gets some sort of he takes some sort of discount just based off his pedigree or lack thereof?
00:05:14
Speaker
I mean, here's the thing. Someone's going to offer him a contract, whether or not it's the 49ers or not. Somebody's going to offer him a contract and the way quarterbacks are being paid now.
00:05:26
Speaker
I mean, whether or not he's getting an average of 55 million or whatever a year to be determined, but he's at least going to get a massive signing bonus. Like he's going to get a ton of guaranteed money from someone. I mean, whether or not that's the 49ers, I guess we'll find out. I mean, they do recycle quarterbacks.
00:05:44
Speaker
I don't know, man. He's definitely going to get a big pay raise from where he's at. And just everything we've seen of his public persona so far, he seems like the kind of guy who's not necessarily trying to get every single last penny. You know what I mean? I mean, I'm sure he wants to get what he's got coming to him and secure his family's financial future for the next couple of generations.
00:06:04
Speaker
But but yeah, it's it's going to be real interesting to see how that one works out, because he's in such a unique situation based off, you know, where he came out of in the draft and the incredible amount of talent surrounding him and the fact that he's dropped into this system that, you know, we hear over and over is just tailor made for QBs to go in and have success. Yeah, no doubt. I did want to piggyback off Trevor Lawrence's contract because Tua is up for a contract extension right now. He's one of the last ones that's going to get one.
00:06:33
Speaker
I saw yesterday, somebody was talking about him getting upwards of $50 million a year. That one. He's just so iffy with the health, man, the health and he can't play in the cold. I mean, he's proven that time and time again. So like, if you got to go on the road in the playoffs, you can almost chalk that up as a loss at this point. I just do plan for Miami and being a warm weather quarterback. I just, I don't know, man.
00:07:03
Speaker
I mean, are you willing to commit $50 million a year of your franchise knowing that if you got to go on the road in a winter weather game, like you're probably going to lose because your quarterback can't play in those conditions. I just.
00:07:16
Speaker
The thing about Tua, man, more than all these other guys we've been discussing, it feels like there is a hard ceiling on him. You know what I mean? I feel like we know what the absolute very best of Tua looks like, dude. I don't think there's really a limit on what the best of Brock Purdy, what the best of Trevor Lawrence look like. It feels like those guys could just catch fire and really rain hell down on teams, whereas Tua,
00:07:42
Speaker
I feel like he's really dependent on those wide receivers in that scheme that he's got down there, man. And he's good. Don't get me wrong. Two is really good. I like two. I love two, man. But I feel like he's got some limitations. I feel like he's got some real limitations that the other guys don't necessarily have. Yeah, it's, I mean, the problem is, is what, I mean, if you're the Dolphins, do you risk not signing him and trying to get another quarterback?
00:08:07
Speaker
I mean, yeah, like, like I just said, like you could probably lose a winter weather game, but I mean, he's at least getting you to the playoffs. I don't know. He's a tough one, man. Cause yeah, you feel like he's, he's probably one of those guys who's, who's just good enough to end up breaking your heart, letting you down at the end.
00:08:26
Speaker
but he's still, he's probably better than anything else you're gonna get the next couple of years unless you just hit the jackpot on somebody. I think maybe you give him a big money deal for three years, man. Give yourself a out. Maybe you don't totally put the ring on it. You move in together

Brandon Ayuk's Future with the 49ers

00:08:44
Speaker
though. Yeah.
00:08:45
Speaker
gonna be tough for them, but another contract situation, Brandon Ayuk. It does not sound like the 49ers want to pay him, and now it's starting to sound like he wants out. I mean, he's starting to publicly demand being traded.
00:09:01
Speaker
This is not going to end well. Yeah, it looks ugly. But we'll see if he ends up holding out again. My prediction is I still think if since it didn't happen at the draft, I think we end up seeing him. I think he's going to be in a 49ers jersey this year. And this is last year. I think they just do the unhappy marriage thing for one more season.
00:09:18
Speaker
It seems like the Niners are committed to running it back with this crew at least one more year and then starting to make some hard choices about who to keep and who to let go because it's going to be pretty untenable to keep this core together, at least in its current form past the 2024 season.
00:09:36
Speaker
they're an interesting team. Like I think they've got this year, like you were just saying, um, cause I mean, you're gonna have to pay Brock pretty after probably this season. So they've got this year and then they're going to have some tough decisions to make on what to do. Trent Williams has probably got
00:09:54
Speaker
I think I think this might be his last year, honestly. So you lose the best left tackle in football. Dude, I still don't know what the hell you do with Deebo. If I'm them, I would rather sign you can trade Deebo. I just I know like Deebo is such a
00:10:13
Speaker
I think he's like their locker room guy. Him and Trent Williams are like two of their locker room guys. He's the Draymond of the 49ers. Dude, the problem is he's never on the fucking field. Like he cannot stay healthy. Like the way they use him as a running back and a receiver. I mean, yeah, it's, it's violent when, when it works. But the problem is he gets hit so much by doing that.
00:10:35
Speaker
Oh man, I think they're in a bad situation with him because dude, I don't really know I'm not sure if he's tradable right now, man I mean he is really really good But he's got a huge contract and there's so much, you know, there's not a ton of tread left on those tires man for it for a younger dude He's got some serious mileage on him because of the way the Niners have used him. So
00:10:54
Speaker
They're in a tough spot with Deebo, man. Because like, I mean, yeah, I think you're 100% right, dude. In a vacuum, the thing that makes sense is trade Deebo. But do you trade Deebo for a freaking fifth-round pick? I couldn't see a team going any higher than a third, man. And even a third feels kind of iffy to me. I mean, I think the Patriots would gladly trade a third-round pick
00:11:19
Speaker
49ers for a Debo. When you have no one, odds are you're going to make a stupid move, but you're not wrong. The 49ers are going to have some tough decisions to make because they're going to have a lot of salary to cut here in the next two years. It's going to be interesting for them.

AFC North on Hard Knocks

00:11:37
Speaker
Okay, moving off the contract talk, Hard Knocks announced last week that the in-season Hard Knocks this year is going to be the entire AFC North. I think this is an awesome idea, honestly. I think this is really cool rather than just follow one team, follow four teams in season.
00:11:55
Speaker
I actually think the end season hard knocks has been better than the preseason hard knocks. Yeah, the Dolphins was really good last year. Yeah, I've really enjoyed it. I think it's really cool. And that's coming from someone that loves the preseason hard knocks. The problem is with the preseason one, you kind of get attached to those undrafted rookies and stuff, and you know the axe is coming for them at the end. And it's just, I don't know, man, it's kind of heartbreaking watching people lose their jobs. So I like the end season one better, honestly.
00:12:25
Speaker
Do you think how in depth are they going to go on the pervert? Oh man. Hopefully we can see all like his 87 like granite massage tables. He's probably got one of those massage tables with a hole in it. Wow. The milking table. Yikes. I didn't know that's what it was called, but thanks.
00:12:49
Speaker
Okay, so that's really all the football talk. I feel like we have to at least mention the Celtics wrapped up their 18th championship the other night. Me and Seth both had Boston go to the finals. I don't know if either one of us had them necessarily winning when we predicted that about two months ago. I thought they were going to lose again, man. I thought Denver was going to take them out, dude.
00:13:10
Speaker
They finally got over the hump. As much as I hated on this team and I thought they had such a soft road to the finals, they beat the piss out of Dallas. Dallas looked like they had no answers for anything.
00:13:23
Speaker
Yeah, I think, you know, I mean, obviously, Jason Tatum is a star. I don't think he's he definitely doesn't got as much kind of like the fan base nationally that some of our other big superstars in the NBA have. And I think that's why this Boston team is a little bit underrated. But if you look at any of the stats and analytics, they're historically one of the greatest teams we've ever seen in NBA history, man, just looking at how the way their point differential, the way they've dominated this, this was really one of the most dominated seasons from start to finish. We've seen an NBA history.
00:13:53
Speaker
So salute to the Celtics. I think they're back on top of the Lakers now for for most championships in NBA history. And they still got a relatively young core. At least the guys are kind of entering the, you know, the start of their prime. So this could be a team we see get another, you know, another couple of rings over the next four or five years. I mean, you said Tatum, dude, I think Jalen Brown is one of the most underrated players in the league and he's now a finals MVP. That dude just plays his ass off. I mean,
00:14:20
Speaker
Everybody always talks about Tatum when they talk about Boston, but I think if they lost Jalen Brown, that would screw them way worse than if they lost Tatum. I mean, they can't lose either one of them, but it's just, I don't know, man, it's definitely 1A, 1B. So yeah, congrats to them, even though I hate Boston, but congrats to them. What do you think of the anti-Luca sentiment that's really starting to come up? It felt like he went from being, you know, one of America's sweethearts to being one of the
00:14:47
Speaker
the the villains of the NBA over the last couple weeks man being on that having the spotlight all to himself I think people really got to see how much he bitches at the refs just non-stop man to the point where it almost hurts his team dude the NBA has just become this whole thing that you can just question every call like yeah
00:15:05
Speaker
No matter the officials is damn near the third part of the game after offense and defense It's like offense and defense and then how to how to approach the officiating I'm not gonna lie to you though There's one thing I do really hate about the NBA and it's the way that they call games early in the game They'll call touch files and stuff and then it gets late and they're just they're like, we're not gonna call these files anymore. So
00:15:27
Speaker
I don't know. You see that in a lot of sports, too. Look at all the Hail Marys in football, dude. You could call Pastor Ferrance on basically any Hail Mary ever, and you never see it, dude. But yeah, I agree. Not to go way off track, man. I know we just want to do a brief aside on basketball, but how in 2024 do we not just have AI referees or robot referees that can track all 10 players at the same time or all 22 players at the same time in football and call the penalties, man?
00:15:57
Speaker
Yeah, the human error part of sports is really starting to show its head more and more every year. I know with baseball, they're seriously considering robot ums, which it needs to happen. For strikes and ball, it seems like it's easy, dude. I kind of get it for basketball and football, because really, you could probably call a foul on every single possession, and you could probably call a penalty on every single play in football, right? But yeah, baseball, it seems like it's too easy, man. And for football, I just think of stuff like,
00:16:26
Speaker
like out of bounds or like ball crossing the goal line. I feel like stuff like that is where we could get a little bit more, let the robots rise up and take over.
00:16:39
Speaker
Okay, so it's funny we just brought this up because I actually had a note for this last episode and I forgot about it. Everybody of these bitches about like Michael Parsons, Bosa, all these guys getting held. Dude, if they called holding on every play in the NFL, it would be the most boring sport in the history of sports. Like it would never end. And we, I'm sorry, man. I agree with you. They do get held, but you cannot have a 300 pound defensive lineman hitting the quarterback every down. Like it would ruin football.
00:17:08
Speaker
The whole thing has always been a part of the NFL. They can't call it every play because they could literally call it every play. So I get it when it's like blatantly obvious, but yeah, we can't have these quarterbacks going down, dude. Cause if, I mean, you take out Patrick Mahomes and we're watching Blaine Gabbard run the chief's offense, like that team becomes a whole lot less interesting. It's just,
00:17:31
Speaker
It's just part of the game now, man. It's just this is where we're at and it's the same thing with the NBA. Like if you're going to the rack, you're going to get fouled and they're not going to call it a lot of times. I mean, it's just kind of where we are at this point.
00:17:43
Speaker
I know it's a little controversial, dude. I'm actually a fan of just legalizing holding. Just get rid of holding as a penalty altogether, dude. It's going to boost the offense. I get it would suck for the defense, man. But I really feel like it would just make the game better, dude. Just allow holding. And maybe even just on a one year trial basis, dude. Just stop calling holding and see if it just becomes
00:18:03
Speaker
I still don't think it would be a straight up track meet out there, man. Because like you said, Lyman hold pretty much every play anyways, and they're still getting beat. You really only see the penalties of somebody like grab somebody and slings them down by the shoulder pads or something, you know? I think holding outside the tackle box is the only that that should be called. If a receiver is holding a corner on the edge, like when running is running off the edge, that has to be called. But like, dude, inside the box, allow it.
00:18:28
Speaker
They're, they're holding every play no matter if you're calling it or not. So yeah, it seems like the NFL would be in favor of it because you're protecting the quarterbacks also, right? Like that's going to be less, less hits on the quarterback. Um, you know, I think it would make for a more exciting

Should the NFL Legalize Holding to Protect QBs?

00:18:42
Speaker
game. I know there's, I know there's defensive lineman, you know, if any of them listening, it happened to be listed as they're probably like punching the air right now hearing me say this, but I just, I feel like it would be a win for basically everybody except for, you know, defensive lineman and pass rushers. A hundred percent. I agree with you there.
00:18:58
Speaker
I think that's, oh, one other thing I want to mention. Um, Willie Mays passed away yesterday. So in the last month we have lost Bill Walton, Jerry West and Willie Mays. Like, do you talk about some legends of sports that we've lost in a month's time? That's absolutely insane. Yeah. Some of the absolute best ever. Willie Mays got a very strong case as the single greatest baseball player of all time. So yeah. RIP Willie Mays.

Colts' 2024 Prospects with Anthony Richardson

00:19:23
Speaker
Let's get into our 2024 previews.
00:19:27
Speaker
you
00:19:42
Speaker
All right, so we kind of laid out our schedule for our team previews to go from the worst teams to the best, and we're kind of starting to get on those teams that were right nudging up against the playoff spots. Man, we got the Colts and Seahawks this week. Which team do you want to do first, Jordan? Let's go Colts first.
00:20:03
Speaker
All right, so they were nine and eight last year 13th overall in defense or 13th overall in offense 20th in defense So kind of middle of the pack on both offense was a little bit stronger six and three and one score games that tells me that they're right for a little bit of regression this year and they were 17th overall in point differential and I remember they had that That game it last week of the season against Texans. It was basically a play in for
00:20:29
Speaker
from the AFC South. And remember Gardner Minshew, if he hits just a little four yard dump pass, they at least stay alive to possibly send it to OT or even beat the Texans. And he throws it behind the running back, incomplete pass, sends the Texans to the playoffs. So the Colts were right there last year, despite playing all year without their starter. What's kind of your take on them going into 2024, Jordan?
00:20:54
Speaker
Yeah I would have really liked to see what that team was with Anthony Richardson all year. I really hope this dude figures out how to not take hits every play because I mean dude he never finished a single game he played in.
00:21:09
Speaker
You just got to figure it out. I mean, just watch Lamar play and watch what he does when he's about to get hit. You either go down or you run out of bounds. Like, dude, those extra two yards aren't always worth it in the NFL. I still think they have a good team, especially with him at quarterback instead of Gardner-Minchu. I can see them doing right about the same record, honestly. But I mean, that's a tough division. That's going to be a really tough division. And the AFC is really tough.
00:21:39
Speaker
I don't know. The jury's still out on Anthony Richardson. I got to see him finish a couple games first before I get too hyped over him.
00:21:47
Speaker
Yeah, the Colts, they've quietly been a very, very competent organization. They've had, they've, they've stayed relatively successful over the last six or seven years, despite playing straight up musical chairs at quarterback at the starting quarterback position, more than just about any team in the league. Um, I think they're due for a drop off this year though, dude. I just, obviously it was a really short sample size and this could end up being one of my worst takes of the off season.
00:22:12
Speaker
I got some serious question marks on Anthony Richardson. For the things like you said, man, four games, he got knocked out of all four of them, ultimately getting knocked out for the season. And he's not a small dude, man. This is a big quarterback and just seems to be fragile, man. It could have just been four random hits that did him in. But I don't know, man. I got a bad feeling we see something similar this year. And I think the Colts come crashing back down to earth. I think they're going to be last place in the AFC South, man. I really do.
00:22:42
Speaker
I think the Jaguars are going to have a bounce back. We know what the Texans are going to do. And I think the Titans are going to be much improved, man. So I'm picking the Colts to go something like 6 and 11, 5 and 12, and be the worst team in this division.
00:22:54
Speaker
Interesting I seriously think they might go 9 and 8 again. I think I think they're a good enough team I think they've got enough players on that team But again, like you just said it all comes down to Anthony Richardson and not having Gardner mince you as your backup is Is not gonna help you obviously considering Anthony Richardson's probably gonna get hurt at some point. So I don't know man
00:23:16
Speaker
I could easily see you being correct, but I, I, I think they're still going to be good and I think he'll figure some of it out as far as sliding and things like that. So yeah, I'll go nine and eight again. All right. So we got a, it's one of the few teams we've had wildly different predictions on, man.

Seahawks' Roster Changes and Geno Smith's Uncertainty

00:23:30
Speaker
Let's go over to the NFC West. We get the Seahawks. So they were, this could be new look Seahawks this next year.
00:23:35
Speaker
in offense last year, 28th in defense, man, I was surprised to see their defense rating was that low. Yeah, they were 28th in defense. I guess that's probably a big reason why Pete Carroll decided to go and pack it in. These guys were 22nd in point differential, despite being nine and eight and they were six and four and one score games. This is another team they were, I want to say they got eliminated the second to last week. I can't remember exactly. I think it was, I don't think they were still alive head into the last week of the season.
00:24:02
Speaker
Um, but they were right there in the mix, you know, mid season, they were looking pretty dang tough. You know, Gino got hurt. Drew lock had some really good games. They had that instant classic on Monday night against the Eagles where he threw the game winning touchdown pass and they were looking pretty solid and just ran out of steam a little bit towards the, uh, the end of the season. But Pete Carroll's gone. We got Mike McDonald coming over defense coordinator from the Ravens. Um, it's going to be a transition year, man. We still got Gino at a quarterback. They did trade for Sam Howe from the Redskins, but it feels like
00:24:31
Speaker
Yeah, I wouldn't be shocked. This is the last year, Gino. I don't know. I think we're in for a little bit of a kind of a figure out what we got going forward here for the Seahawks. Just to correct you, they were 100% alive going into the last week of the season, but they need a green Bay to lose and green Bay one. So, um, that's how green Bay ended up making the playoffs. Cause they had the tiebreaker.
00:24:51
Speaker
This is an interesting team. They have a ton of weapons on offense. The defense should not have been as bad as it is. There it was last year. They have a lot of really good players on each level on defense. I don't know, man. This is a tough one because 49ers are obviously the cream of the crop in the NFC West. I still don't ever think the Rams are going to just be outright bad as long as McVeigh is there.
00:25:20
Speaker
Especially if Stafford could stay healthy dude McVay's always gonna have him playing playing tough if Stafford's there dude They could totally be in the playoffs man, and then the Cardinals are the one team you just never know what you're gonna get out of them
00:25:35
Speaker
I just, I can't see them being much better than they were last year with a first year head coach. And I still, I still cannot fully trust Gino Smith as a playoff quarterback. It's been two years, man. He's done it, dude. This is too strong. I mean, cause he held up basically the same number she had for 2022. He did it again last year. I know you missed a couple of games, but I thought Gino was way down on the list for reasons why they missed the playoffs last year. I know, but dude,

I just refused to believe this dude was as bad as he was for a decade. Yeah, 10 years. And then all of a sudden this dude is just a good quarterback. I mean, it definitely a hardcore fan. It's really tough to to kind of like wrap your brain around it, man. The career trajectory for this guy. I mean, the thing is, like he does have the weapons to surround himself with.
00:26:24
Speaker
to make the decisions easier like when you have DK and Tyler Lockett and JSN and then Kenneth Walker in the backfield like you definitely have the people around him to make him better and make easier decisions but dude I just I'm just waiting for Geno
00:26:44
Speaker
to go back to old Geno. Like I know I'm not trying to write him off because we all know what Gina thinks when you write him off. But I just I don't know man.
00:26:56
Speaker
Every week I watch this dude play, I'm just like, all right, when does this dude turn back into the Jets quarterback? Yeah. When's that stays coach turn back into a pumpkin? I think they're going to be... I know this is a cop out, but I seriously think they're going to be about the same record. I think nine and eight, 10 and seven may be the ceiling for them. I don't see them being much better than that.
00:27:19
Speaker
NFL is tough, man. It is. The NFL is really tough and just like every year the athletes get better and there's always a surprise team in there. And I just, I don't know, man, I still think losing Pete Carroll granted the game may have passed him by, but dude was still a hell of a head coach. I just, I don't know, man, if he could drag this team to nine and eight, like, do I really think Mike McDonald is going to make that big of a difference? Their defense will definitely be better, but
00:27:47
Speaker
I just don't see it, man. I think nine and eight, 10 and sevens are ceiling. This is weird because I feel like really kind of just over the course of our relationship, I've always been Mr. Sunshine, dude, and you could kind of be the negative Nancy. I'm going negative on this one too, dude. I think Seahawks are like six and 11, man. I think, I think Gino still plays good enough, man, but I think there's going to be some kind of institutional decay around him just from
00:28:13
Speaker
You know, Pete Carroll probably had some, there's probably some stuff we don't know about behind the scenes. It was kind of falling into disrepair with that team's culture and scheme and stuff. And I feel like maybe they're going to have to clean out some, uh, you know, some of that roster over the next, next couple of seasons to get, get reloaded for whatever the new era of the Seahawks is going to look like, man. And I think that starts this year. So I'm thinking like six and 11 for the Seahawks this year. And I don't think they're going to be in contention for our playoff spot.
00:28:38
Speaker
I thought they should have dumped DK last year. Like, I'm honestly shocked that they didn't dump him. I just... Like, what are you waiting for at this point? I mean, you already drafted another wide receiver. Like, dude, get everything you can out of DK at this point.
00:28:54
Speaker
I just I think he's I think DK I think you know the way he looked physically as some of the the big plays we'd see I think people were thinking he's gonna be like the next like Julio Jones, but I think he's just gonna be a good like number two weapon for a team You know, I think that's kind of where DK Metcalf sad eyes seems like the consistency just isn't there with him. I
00:29:13
Speaker
Yeah, I agree. He is a beast on Madden though, dude. I had him. I'm like 16 seasons deep on Madden franchise and DK Metcalf broke basically every single receiving record except for a number of receptions, man. He's got all the rest, dude. So definitely go. He's he's like the absolute perfect wide receiver for Madden for those that are are game. And again, how the hell did Ole Miss not win everything with him and A.J. Brown on the team?
00:29:39
Speaker
Exactly, dude. That's just absolutely intimidating. When you used to play college football as a kid and you were a wide receiver and you made yourself like 6'8 and like 290 pounds and you're just worrying everybody over. That's what that is to me. And it's two of them.
00:29:57
Speaker
Yeah, like I don't know how they do because I mean, I never remember hearing about those guys that much. No, I mean, yeah, for the most part, you never heard anything about either one of them in college. So yeah, it's weird. All right, let's get into our listener mail. One second, man. How many days away are we from NCAA 25 at this point? I mean, we're less than 30 now. Like we're under the 30 day mark. God, that's freaking amazing to hear.
00:30:27
Speaker
What days it come out comes out on the 19th.
00:30:31
Speaker
Today is the 19th. We are exactly a month away. 30 days. Couple questions. First off, Mike Rivera responded to the last episode. The league name will be the Chick Foley Fantasy Football League will be renamed to the Gold Line Fantasy Football League. And he says there's one open spot right now. So if you're listening, you want to get in on it, drop Mike, drop Jordan a line. He says if there's enough interest that they can expand it out to 14 teams. And then our buddy Phil from over in the UK says,
00:30:59
Speaker
Currently the football European championships are going on. Why don't you talk about a real sport like that? Hey, Phil, I do watch the Euros. Seth does not. But that's not what this show is about there, bud. Who's winning the Euros? I mean, they're still in group stage play right now. So Phil wants us to say England, but there's zero chance I'm ever saying England. Who's like the favorite? Probably coming into it.
00:31:26
Speaker
Let me see. This is the number one team in the world right now. Here. This is really riveting TV or really riveting podcasting. You could literally say any country right now, dude. Now I'll have the same reaction. And I have absolutely no clue what, what, uh, who's the powerhouses right now in a European soccer coming into this. I mean, England's fourth in the world right now. Um, they're, they're a really good team, but Spain played Croatia the other day and
00:31:52
Speaker
they beat the piss out of them. So honestly right now, I'd probably say Spain is the favorite. It looks like Germany and Hungary are about to kick off here in about 45 minutes as we record, which give me a, give me a score prediction on that one, Jordan, three zero Germany.
00:32:06
Speaker
All right. All right, folks, thanks again for listening. That is another episode of Goal Line. We're creeping closer and closer to football season. It's almost here. Enjoy, Jordan. Hit us with some closing thoughts. We'll get out of here. Enjoy your week. Enjoy your summer. Watch some College World Series, and we'll talk to you guys in two weeks.
