Packers' Significant Victory Against 49ers

00:00:21
Speaker
Aloha and welcome back to another episode of the Ohana Packers Edition podcast. The podcast where the Packers have finally put the 49ers on the turf, hopefully under the turf for the rest of the season and they won't see them come playoff time because i know that I know the Niners are banged up, they're missing players, but the Packers finally did what a good team is supposed to do and just take them behind the woodshed, leave no doubt.

Decisive Victory Showcasing Team Potential

00:00:46
Speaker
I know that this game had parts where it was a little bit hectic and in doubt, but at the end of the day, it's a four touchdown win. And that's the kind of thing you want to see from this team as you move towards the stretch run of the season. So Joe, did you enjoy that as much as I hope you did? because

Tense Game Dynamics Despite Lead

00:01:04
Speaker
they went up by 17 and then they just kind of flat line
00:01:08
Speaker
And then it wasn't until after halftime that they, they started to kick back up again. So, uh, like Brian and I were saying during our, our shed talk, uh, post game, it had that feel of, Oh shit, the 49ers are going to come back after halftime and win this thing. Aren't they? But, you know, finally we see, see that whole all gas, no fucking break mentality and.
00:01:34
Speaker
I wish they would have had a little bit more of it there to the end just to put the final nail into the coffin. Yeah, maybe like they they did the right thing getting love on a lot of the key players out of the game. But yeah, it would have been fun to see Malik throw the ball a little bit and honestly just put a f you another FU to Shanahan and his overrated ass. But either way, it's a 38 to 10 victory.

Record Margin of Victory

00:01:58
Speaker
According to Lily Zhao, this is the widest margin of victory in the game.
00:02:05
Speaker
Mike, you went mute.
00:02:07
Speaker
That's why. OK, so don't leave the lights on. There's a button on top of my microphone and she's screwing around with it because it it it mutes it, but it also turns the lights on my microphone on and off. So she's like, ooh. So, yeah, what I was saying was is, yeah, it did get a little dicey in the middle. A lot of, you know, some people will say it's overly pessimistic, but you did have that feeling of Oh crap, the next time, the especially after Watson had his big drop of the game, but you had that feeling like by the time Green Bay gets this ball back, it's going to be a one possession game. And it's just a question of, is it a three or a a field goal or a touchdown difference? Bless you.
00:02:51
Speaker
But they did what they haven't really done to this point this season, and they got traction, like you said, they gathered their legs, got traction back under them, and really did proceed to slam the door shut on San Fran, which was really nice to see for, like I said, it's still not a perfect game by any means, but honestly, it was, we could,
00:03:14
Speaker
We said it all week, if they would just play their B plus game, they're going to win this game. And they played about a B plus, you know, different phases. You can say B plus to A minus, depending on where you sit on certain parts of the game. But, you know, overall, it averages to that about that grade. And you got a four touchdown win out of it. So,
00:03:33
Speaker
you know, things to nitpick, things for us to talk about in the show today, but overall, you just have to be happy with how this thing turns out because Green Bay, like I said, Green Bay did

Podcast Production Enhancements

00:03:42
Speaker
what it's supposed to do. that That's a banged up, wounded animal over there in the Niners and you took him out behind the shed and put it out of its misery for at least the time being. So Joe, I believe we are continuing to increase the production value of our show.
00:04:00
Speaker
another of dress cheese fresh What's fresh for you this week, Joe?
00:04:08
Speaker
mean,

Josh Jacobs' Standout Performance

00:04:09
Speaker
you got to go in and out on the every week. It seems to be this, but Josh Jacobs again, he, you know, what he, we both have our own issues. He's got his daughter and I've got my frigging dog that won't leave us alone.
00:04:25
Speaker
Josh Jacobs went 26 carries for 106 yards with three touchdowns. And, you know, that that's gotta be the, the story of the game, because he even went out because he was cramping and they were like, Oh, well he's questionable, or questionable to come back. And then within five minutes, he comes back into the game. So, you know, that itself is just a sign that this kid is really.
00:04:56
Speaker
I kind of poked the bear a little bit when I did this, but it was on blue sky, so it was all right. But I skied it on blue sky that, you know, Oh, I thought Brian Gudekunst was bad at roster decision-making.

Impact of Free Agent Pickups

00:05:13
Speaker
And because both the, the free agent pickups this off season played big roles today and they've been playing big roles all season.
00:05:24
Speaker
so yeah my first fresh has got to be josh jacobs once again oh we're hitting our wall hold on marisol is enticing her with the popsicle it worked yeah bribery bribery and it works with little kids but and my wife is really good at it and you you toss that softball up and I'm gonna knock it out of the park I'll go with the other end of the free agent pool and that's Xavier McKinney getting off the snide you know what an overrated signing didn't have an interception in like a month or whatever what
00:06:02
Speaker
What a, what a waste of money, but all joking aside, finally gets back in the interception column. But even before that, has the fourth down pass breakup, which really reset the tone for the Packers.

McKinney's Defensive Impact

00:06:13
Speaker
yeah Like you said, the game was potentially at a tipping point, uh, coming out of halftime and the 49ers crossed midfield with, you know, a little too much ease and who's there, but reliable Xavier McKitty to break up a fourth and two pass and,
00:06:31
Speaker
Really, the route was on from there. Green Bay, it's from that point that Green Bay finally said, like, okay, like, we screwed around enough for, like you said, the middle third of this game. Let's get serious and put this thing to bed. And they did. And it was really, really good to see from this team because, know, they,
00:06:49
Speaker
We've talked about it, it's been little things here and there where you just don't execute correctly, you don't um know you have mental mistakes, you don't execute the play, you have the wrong guys on the field, all different kind of stuff. And finally they're like, okay, McKinney gave them a breast breath of fresh air. And they're like, okay, like no more no more screwing around. And then obviously the interception and it was just totally done after that. so Great job by, all around, but McKinney, again, just being the spark plug he's been for this whole, not just the defense, this whole team, this whole season.
00:07:26
Speaker
you know but he, but he made up for it on other plays and just the defense as a whole. And we'll just go ahead and jump into,
00:07:36
Speaker
the next fresh part of it is just the defense as the whole. And Jeff

Packers' Defensive Dominance

00:07:42
Speaker
Halfley is an OAP listener confirmed because what happened today, he started rotating in and out more of the players. Stokes was in and out of there. Valentine got some playing time, you know, so he was rotating in and out the guys he needed to rotate in and out. And look what happened. They had success.
00:08:03
Speaker
I mean, it didn't seem like it because they were getting some chunk yardage, but they only allowed Brandon Allen to throw for 199 yards. Uh, altogether they only gave up 44 total rushing yards. So, I mean, this was a hell of a defensive performance all around the play calling the, the personnel and the execution of the place just was altogether a relief. Now, yes, I know.
00:08:31
Speaker
you're going to have your detractors. You know, well, they were without Trent Williams and they were without Purdy and oh Christian McCaffrey. He isn't quite as self yet, but they still had McCaffrey. They still had Devo. They still had, Oh, what's the other receiver? Joanne Jennings, the one who killed us winning drive last year. Yup. Right. And who's had a hell of a year this year, from what I understand too.
00:09:00
Speaker
So it just, they still had enough of the, and they still had all the rest of their offensive line, minus Trent Williams. So they still had everybody else on their team. The Packers did that same thing this year. They didn't have Jordan love for a couple of different games. Guess what happened? Their backup went in and had the hell of a frigging game because the coaches were able to game plan for him.
00:09:28
Speaker
I can't help it. Shanahan couldn't get his guy ready. Yeah. And really outside of one drive, half we really really did. Like you said, he shuffled the deck. He was a little more aggressive. know brady was Brady and Burkhardt were saying it. like you know You can't have a much better first quarter for the Packers than as a collective team where you like eat up the whole quarter on offense and only play three snaps of defense.
00:09:55
Speaker
and he saw Halfly back off a little bit at the end of the second quarter and it was frustrating and obviously you'd like to see him just put the hammer down and stuff but was good to see that, you know, he did that but then after what does he do? Like you said, Corey Ballantyne gets to play some, Stokes sees the field, Taran Hopper was in on some snaps in the second half and I do think that I think Valentine, i don't I don't have the percent, you know, the number of the snap counts, but I feel like Valentine was the only one who was truly out there for most of the game and everyone else was in a rotation in the second, in the, at quarterback. So, excuse me.
00:10:38
Speaker
And I think you know it it led to a little bit more you know inspired play. Kishan Nixit said it after the game. He's like, I haven't made an impactful play in like a month and a half. And he finally got one. And it when does his force fumble come after? It comes after you see all the other corners get snaps on defense.
00:10:57
Speaker
and Uh, you just add into it. Kway was used in a much more aggressive manner. I thought Kway outside of the dropped interception had a really solid game today. he had those back to back plays. He attempt either. You know, it wasn't like, like I tweeted it. I said like,
00:11:15
Speaker
he got caught in between on that one where he's like, in the moment, you can see it as he's trying to catch it. He's like, is it above my head? Is it below my shoulders? What do I do? And it's like, you're a linebacker, Quay. Just put your thumbs together and make the diamond. like it it's Like, you're not a receiver. You're not a tight end. like just Just put your thumbs together and catch that ball. But like if that's your biggest negative play for a linebacker in a game, that's a good game from your linebacker.
00:11:44
Speaker
He was effective when he blitzed. And even that first drive where it's actually Roshan who gets credit for the sack because he forced the fumble, it was still a really good effort from Koei because he gets knocked down and then you know has the wherewithal and the so ah ah motor to get back on his feet and secure the tackle. because you know Rashawn forces the fumble but the ball goes right back to Brandon Allen and he you know he could have taken off and run for it because when those kind of things happen everyone kind of freezes because they're like wait like what what happened and stuff and Quay had the wherewithal to be like nope I still got a tackle to this guy and he brought him down so you know he still gets a TFL for that play
00:12:24
Speaker
He has the nice play, has that two-play stretch where he shoots into the back, he shoots through past the blocker and tackles McCaffrey on the the sweet play. And then the very next play, he he creates the pressure that forces the errant throw on third down. So you like to see Koe playing with force. That's you know that's something fresh.
00:12:46
Speaker
you know I'd wrap, he's a guy that obviously, yes, I'd love for him to play quote unquote, perfect football. But honestly, at this point of his career, I'm totally fine if he just puts the pedal down and just says, screw it, I'm just gonna, whatever I do, I'm going to do it at 120 miles an hour. And if it's the right play, awesome. If it's not the right play, like he's the kind of athlete where it's like,
00:13:10
Speaker
even if he reads it wrong or honestly guesses wrong, if he just goes and does whatever he decides to do it you know at% or more, it's going to screw up whatever the offense is trying to do. So it's like, just just play with some conviction. in you know just Just have the conviction in your decision making and just go go balls out. And we saw that today from Kuei. So if we get that from him the rest of the season,
00:13:37
Speaker
That's going to change how this defense plays. And again, the pass rush started to show up in every drive, except for the one right before the half, where half we played it a little bit loosey goosey on coverage. Every other drive, someone had a chance to rush the passer at times. So know like I said, Rashawn gets the sack on the opening drive. And Lucas, who everyone was beating up the whole game, and he wasn't having a great game before it. but he literally finally breaks through and i I tweeted as a joke I was like look at him use his head because he swipes for the ball correctly but it's not his arm or his hand that gets the ball out it's it's the fact that his head hits the ball and so I was like good job using your head Lucas but
00:14:24
Speaker
like that's the kind of play and then you know some people will say like he didn't beat an offensive i don't give a rat's ass he split a double team with a power like a just a 100 percent power and effort rush and that's all you want from him like yes and like i said we've seen his technique improve we've seen him do different things we've seen him set up some rush moves here and there but every once in a while you've just got to be the bull in the china shop and just say fuck it i'm gonna mess things up right now and he did on that plate it was you know, the the Xavier interception was the tipping point. That forced fumble was the dagger in all, for all intensive purposes. And it was just, it's one of those plays where, you know, we talked about it with Tucker last year where it's like, you know, he was having struggles blocking and it's like, he's not getting the ball and stuff. And like, they need to just throw him a lollipop here and there. So I was like, that's something that you can, it's on film. It's your first big play in a month, really. And you can just tell him like,
00:15:20
Speaker
It's there, like just keep going, you're you're there kind of thing and stuff. So just really, really good to see him break through and have that moment. So like you said, just a really nice bounce back week for the defense after a disappointing week, but from a top down of coaching, players executing, everything was just that much better against a 49ers team that, like you said, it's reeling, but also they're desperate. And you weigh the two of those together. Yes, the injuries matter, but for all in intents and purposes, this loss may have ended their season. So like that kind of desperation, you can't you can't you know you can't scheme for that. You can't practice that. That's something that can only be shown on game day. And Green Bay matched that intensity and surpassed it. And that's really good to see.
00:16:12
Speaker
It is. And this is the type of game that Packer fans for years have feared because how many times have we seen it where we go in there and they're missing, you know, they're playing a backup quarterback and they're playing of this and this guy isn't there. And so the Packers played down to their opponent and, you know, you got the Tommy DeVito's and the Bailey Zappies and, and guys like that, that,
00:16:42
Speaker
they, they lost to or almost lost to because of whatever reason they played down to their opponent. So this was set up the same way. Brandon Allen was set up. It wasn't it. What was it? Three years ago that they played against him when he was in Carolina and he almost made him that time too. Something like that. Yeah. So it, it is, you know, it's one of those things. So,
00:17:10
Speaker
You take it, don't listen to the people whining about it because this is the type of game the Packers have lost in the past and they got over that hump. I wish, I wish this was a playoff game because that would mean the curse is broken.
00:17:24
Speaker
so we we still got a little bit to go on that one but well we'll take the win on there yeah honestly and like i said this is about as close to a playoff victory as you can get at this point because like i said putting them at five and six green bay is in the seventh position in the wild card and They're I forget who they have a really rough. I think they play Buffalo next week and forget who their game. They have a really rough part of their schedule that's coming up. So putting them in the hole with another NFC loss at you while you gain another NFC win and really solidify your positioning as the seven seed in the NFC. That's just like we preach this going into this game, how important this game was.
00:18:08
Speaker
And it's just really good to see the team make it happen in ah ah in a game.

Packers' Playoff Positioning

00:18:12
Speaker
You know, you don't want to say that any game is any more or less important at this point, but for all intents and purposes, there are must-wins at this point. And with this win, you actually, Green Bay is in sixth position because you're eight and three, the commander's lost, so they're the seventh seed now. So you just see like you... you know, not like you jumped up the standings, but you kept pace with your two division opponents who just have decided to turn on turn off losses for the rest of the year. And you just got to keep pace with them to keep whatever little hope of winning the division alive, but also to make sure that you're in the thick of the playoff race. So good job by the Packers. And this, like, especially because you're on the short week now,
00:18:56
Speaker
You've got to win the NFC game. Not saying you don't try on Thursday against the Miami Dolphins, but Thursday night games are always stupid and weird. Something funky is going to happen on Thanksgiving. So secure the big win before it. And then that it's house money, but it is an AFC game. It's on Thursday. So just so important to get this NFC conference win.
00:19:24
Speaker
You know, like you were saying with the 49ers that they have a rough schedule coming up, the Packers do too. And not because of like teams that they're facing, which they are facing some bad teams. It's just the scheduling wise, like this week is the short week playing for Thursday. Then don't they play Thursday again next week too. And then you've got your Monday games coming up and.
00:19:48
Speaker
This is just like the really weird part of the schedule for the package. Yeah. It's not necessarily hard. Like, obviously that Lions game is tough. And then the but not up played the the Seahawks game right after it. So you like you said, we're going short week into Thanksgiving. Then you're another week away at Detroit. But then it's you know you're back to Sunday night the next week, but it's at Seattle. So you go 49ers physical game short week.
00:20:17
Speaker
week, even though it's not a regular week because you go Thursday to Thursday and then you go cross country to your next game the following week. So really important to get this thing off on the right foot. And yeah, like just get the momentum rolling because you're going to need it going into the stretch run of the season right now. Right. had McKinney's interception and then there were, uh, let me pull it back up here. Fumbles.
00:20:44
Speaker
Yeah. Uh, Brandon Allen had to McCaffrey had one. Jordan Mason had one. Isaac Garinda had one. So just the turnovers and and the force fumbles were just outstanding. So they were forcing the 49ers into bad situations. Now they did get lucky on a few things. And we'll talk about that a little bit later on with our other segments, but you know, so do you have any more fresh that you've got for the game? I mean, there's a ton of it.
00:21:14
Speaker
But it's all encompassed with other things, you know. Yeah, I think the the big one I'll point to is just after a couple of weeks of just like, you know, just questioning the floor and what he was doing, I thought he had a really strong play calling game today. Really just, you know, we talked about it where you can kind of push back on this San Fran D line. And they did. And, you know, Jacobs joked after the game, like, did you you know what?
00:21:40
Speaker
what did you do to try and help with the red zone struggles and he said i told them to give me the ball and and he kind of backed off on it ah a little bit but i mean that's part of the reason you brought this guy in and he finally had one of those those those Aaron Jones type games where it's like, you know, it's a it's a good, it's a hundred, you can't scoff at a hundred yard rushing game, but it's not like he ran for like six yards a carry or anything like that. But, know, he gives a hundred yards, but he has the three touchdowns. So, you know, he has the three pack and just really love to see that from Jacobs today.
00:22:16
Speaker
And I thought just LeFlore called a really good game, you know just sequencing his runs. he And the way I also point to this is Fred Warner had perhaps the worst game I've ever seen him play in his NFL career today. like He looked like a Packers linebacker from the last decade in all honesty. like That's the simplest way I can put it because He looked, lost, one of the plays that showed it was on Wix's, Dante van Wix big bass play. You know, Warner's looking at Devondre Campbell, like, where did you go? But Dre actually did the right thing in coverage where he backs off because he picks up Tucker Kraft coming over the top. And it's Warner who's covering nothing but grass on that play. So and and it was just, he was missing a bunch of tackles and you just don't expect that from,
00:23:06
Speaker
the best linebacker in the NFL. So the the fact that, you know, you don't just get that on. It's not just a blue moon happening. You know, a lot of that is the floor, his play calling, the window dressing he puts on top of it. And it was just a really good day at the office for the floor after, like I said, a couple of rough weeks between the Detroit and Bears game. So really good to see that bounce back from the floor as well.
00:23:32
Speaker
We know Salah's in the building. We know Salah was brought in to help out the offense. Is it possible with the knowledge Salah has of the 49ers that he was able to help them scheme up to, you know, confuse the hell out of the linebacker play?
00:23:51
Speaker
possibly the only reason I say no maybe honestly and honestly if it was just to get to Fred Warner that's fine because you look at the rest of the names on that that defense I don't know if many of them were there when Salah was last there honestly because he took the liner or he took the Jets head coaching job in 2021 so Bosa was out injured, so he didn't play today. And then I feel like Warner's the only guy who's really left because Buckner is gone, Armstead is gone. um They're on their whatever it defensive end after. Across from Bosa,
00:24:34
Speaker
Greenlaw didn't play. and their court like Sherman's not there and stuff so hey like if if you picked Salah's brain just to screw around with Fred Warner that is time well spent on in all honesty I'm not even I'm not at all joking when I say that I just think because I don't think they even run like a real really similar system to what Salah did because you know Salah's system is four, three, it's like a cover three heavy concept with some man concepts matched in and stuff. And I think the 49ers, they're doing a, they're more multiple in their defensive looks now. So, but either way, i I do think there's a little bit of it. And like I said, if it was just like, Hey,
00:25:17
Speaker
Robert, what does Salah, or not Salah, what does Fred like to do when you when I show him this? And if you got anything from Salah's, you know, from Salah's advanced scouting from that standpoint, that's excellent. Like, and no head shakes or anything to that. That's excellent use of resources there. Yeah, and I'm not saying that, you know, he knows the 49er system perfectly anymore, because like you said, you know, there are not a lot of Well, uh, players still there the when he was there, but you know, he, the ones that are, he would tend to know what their tendencies are. Yeah. So yeah it would be easy for him to say, well, you know, if you run this, he's going to do this, or if you run this, he's going to be up over here. So you're going to have to contend with this one over here. So it just, it makes me wonder if a little bit of that was going on and it did confuse.
00:26:13
Speaker
you know, like Warner and whatever, whoever's still on there. And of course you've got, uh, Devondri Campbell. Who's let's face it. He's a shell of the all proceeds. Oh yeah. His legs are shot at this point. Like he, he just can't move. at Like there was a play where he like,
00:26:34
Speaker
I forget exactly, but like he's like 10 yards down the field and he still hasn't found the ball yet kind of thing. Like he looked like a, you look like a whirly bird trying to figure out what was happening on the play. So yeah, it's, you know, it's a little sad to see cause he was so good in 2021 and just, you know, the injuries he dealt with and stuff, the fall off was so quick for him after that season. It's really unfortunate.
00:26:59
Speaker
I think I'm good on fresh. yeah let's put Like I said, there's a lot of them that you can talk about. I guess there's one more I'll talk about, and it's something that then we kind of, we were kind of talking about in the preview episode, or at least I was kind of talking about it, where both sides of the ball used multiple people. They weren't just using the same you know, three or four guys, like Jordan wasn't just targeting one or two guys. He was using all of his weapons out there. Cause you had guys like Heath step up and Tucker craft got his and Jaden got his and wicks got his and hell. They even had John Fitzpatrick got there that caught one. So, I mean, they were using everybody on the sideline and then that same thing goes with on the defensive side of things.
00:27:51
Speaker
You know, they used Stokes, they used Valentine, they used Wooden and... Wooden got the start today, yeah. Yeah, so I mean, they they were using these guys. So they stopped with the, oh, well, we just want to use just these core guys and let everybody else sit. They were using everybody.
00:28:14
Speaker
So if they can keep that mentality going forward, I'm not worried about it being a short week against Miami this week. Because that means everybody's more rested. Yeah.
00:28:26
Speaker
But yeah, I agree. like the only The only concern you have is not even a concern. You just pretty much just cross Romeo Dobbs off the list for this week. Because if he has a concussion, there's no way he's there's no way he could or really should be cleared for this game against Miami, which they're gonna need you know theyre everyone else is going to have to step up a little. But like you said, even more so, it was good to see them get some live reps for Malik Heath and Dontavian Wicks and stuff. so Yeah, even more important that you get that going if Dobbs is almost certainly out on Thursday. That weren't just decoys and out there, uh, run blocking and shit like that. So I, Hey, I've been a Heath truther since the start. So I, you know, it was great to see him get his today and it wasn't that easy of a catch either for his touchdown. And even the first one wasn't that easy. He still was, had to made a play on it. So.
00:29:22
Speaker
I wish that they would get him more involved. But it's it's a good thing that they don't have to because they have all these other guys that they can lean on. But it would be good to see him get more playing time because I believe there is something there in him. Yep, I agree. I'm ready for him um do the bow belt and then get the 100 yard receiving game. If he does that, Malik, if you hear this, and I talked to you when I was is up there in Green Bay for the preseason. And I told you, if you hit 100 yards, I will get your jersey. Even if I have to have it made, I will get a Molly Keith jersey. Excellent. Excellent. All right. Are we ready for our next segment? Yep. What's this damn shit?
00:30:14
Speaker
So you want to lead off on this one? Yeah, I'm going to go with a guy that we kind of talked about in the, the fresh part of it. because he kind of had an in-between game and that's Lucas Van Ness. And I know people are going, well, he's actually talking shit about Lucas. Okay. So the penalty was a boneheaded ass penalty.
00:30:43
Speaker
I could see it with my own two fucking eyes watching from the camera view. He was offsides. Now, I know this must be something that but Halfly and them are trying to teach their guys to get as much advantage as you can, line up as close to it as you can without drawing the penalty. Well, Lucas, my friend, you listen, this is your uncle here. You know, this is this is good old on Joe.
00:31:08
Speaker
You were not aware of your surroundings, my friend. You were so far offsides that even this friggin' guy here sitting on his lazy boy at the at his home in Iowa could see you were offsides. There is no way I could friggin' justify what you were doing because you were that far offsides. And I don't know how you didn't know you were not offsides.
00:31:36
Speaker
So yes, the i so the reason that this isn't a moldy take is because you did come back and have the strip sack later on. So you're safe on that. So you're you're kind of in between here.
00:31:49
Speaker
yeah Yeah, like you said, this is more just to point out how boneheaded of a ah penalty it was to take because yeah, and I tweeted about it later that I was like, and I agree with you that it must be something that Halfly and the d the defensive room, Halfly, Rebovich, they're kind of coaching up where it's like, and where it's,
00:32:14
Speaker
they're trying to toe the line but that one was like dude your chin was past the ball it was that far past it you're kind of like okay like we got to know that that's offside and stuff but like we said in the fresh he totally redeemed it later and that's the kind of thing i if i had to have an order obviously i'd rather there be no mess ups but if i had to have an order we'll take the mess up first and have the big play afterwards so Good to see him bounce back, but yeah, that one deserved to get called out because that was a bone brain penalty to pick up.
00:32:46
Speaker
but I do agree with you that it must be something they're coaching because Aaron Mosby was also as offside lined up and his was worse because at least Lucas had the not the excuse but at least you could say like he wasn't on like a yard line where it wasn't like the 30 words like dude the ball is on the line and you're past that at least his was like okay it was on like the 33 and you were on the 32 it's still not great but it's like all right like just look right next time. Like, check with the ref. Moses was like, dude, you're like, your chest is on top of the line. And it was funny because you can see him, like, in real time, like, uh oh. He, like, backs up, backs up, backs up kind of thing and stuff. So I do agree with you that I think it's something that they're like, let's see how close we can get. But that was very clearly past the line. So,
00:33:38
Speaker
Gotta see a little bit of improvement there. My still was Christian. You gotta catch that damn deep ball. I questioned whether I wanted to put it in the moldy, but... he's he's had a you know He's coming off the really good week. and But that one, there's just no excuse for that. like you know Like I said, the Detroit game, the conditions weren't great. I don't know what the ball did in the upper the upper stratosphere of the stadium and stuff like that. This one, there's just no excuse. like It fell right to the crown of your helmet. and you've got to just i don't I don't care if you fall down. You have to catch that football. like I don't care if you don't score the touchdown.
00:34:19
Speaker
you you get it stuck in you break your fingers so it gets stuck between your fingers you you you just fall down to make sure i i don't care you just got to come down with that football no ifs ands or buts so come on christian we need one like went this way and the other one went like that way it was like what are you doing Yeah, like like I said, you know, for Quaze one, like that ball came in hot and he's a linebacker and stuff like Christian, this is the thing you're supposed to be good at is running under deep passes and stuff. So I know overall, I think that 95% of Christian season has been really good, but help your quarterback out here. You gotta make that play. And not just your quarterback, help your team out. Like that's a backbreaker on so many levels that when,
00:35:09
Speaker
fed into our concern with where this game was headed because you score that play that's 24-7 and you've completely taken the wind out of Sam, you know all the things they did on their touchdown drive that just goes up in flames in one play kind of thing but then you you know you let them do the stupid, I got my ass kicked, but I'm going to celebrate that. That's a drop pass thing. And and it's like, and and instead your team is the one that's sweating bullets. So come on, Christian, clean that shit up. Right. And I mentioned it on the Chad talk post game with Brian that, uh, it was reminiscent of the one is rookie year against the Vikings.
00:35:55
Speaker
And the only difference is this one hit him more in the hands than the one against Minnesota did. And I don't understand it. I knew. See, this is where you can sit there and say this is the issues that you could see with him when he was coming out of college is that he has all the talent in the world, but there's something wrong with the hands that he makes these kind of mistakes.
00:36:25
Speaker
So it just, it was mind boggling and I was pissed. I think the dog thought I was yelling at her cause it's just, I was like, what the fuck are we doing? Cause it did. They kept showing the replay and the one hand like went up like this and the other hand dropped down and it's like you half alligator armed it. Yep. So But honestly, I guess the only other still I have is like, and it's I struggle to put this in a box, but
00:37:05
Speaker
the the two big special teams played that they gave up that they didn't really give up because there were penalties called so like the reason i put it in the stale is like okay yes you got uh you know there was a penalty that not that that brought the play back but especially the kickoff return you could just see that one was kind of starting to part like the red sea and Brady even kind of said it he's like if Zane Anderson and like I said that was the biggest play Zane Anderson has made for the Green Bay Packers is that he like sold out so hard trying to show like I'm being held like look at me like someone helped throw the flag kind of thing but
00:37:48
Speaker
Like it's one of those where if you ask a lineman, an O-line coach or receiving coach, like is that a foul, you know, is that a penalty? They would probably tell you we tell the guy to block like that again kind of thing. So it's one of those where it's on the borderline and Green Bay got the benefit of it because Anderson made the extra effort to really show like, hey, I can't go and make a play on this guy because of this guy holding me. so
00:38:18
Speaker
On one hand, that's a good, but also, like I said, that kickoff return looked like it was going to be a big one regardless of whether Zane got held or not. So a week after we rightfully so, praising the Sachiya and his unit, there was a couple of cracks that showed today that you're kind of like, like,
00:38:35
Speaker
Like I said, it goes more in the stale because there wasn't like an outright like bust or anything like that. But you just you could sense that like there were a step away from disaster on a couple cases there. And and I was going to kind of make that a moldy, but, i you know, I guess we got to give them kind of a break because of what they did last week. But, yeah, it was really sad to see that happen that they had to get bailed out because of penalties. Otherwise it would have been, you know, who knows what the score would have been at that point. Cause the ball on like our 11 yard line or something like that. And yeah, like all the momentum and everything. So yeah, who knows what happens to the game at that point.
00:39:23
Speaker
I'm trying to think of any sales cause
00:39:26
Speaker
say jordan love I won't put Jordan to the the moldy. I'm going to put him in the stale and I. I'm not sure what it was. I couldn't tell. I don't know if he was getting overly excited because he was seeing things open up. I don't know if it's because he's feeling better and and he's overcompensating for something. i I don't know what it is, but some of the decision making he was doing today was kind of weird. And, you know, he was putting fire on the ball when he probably shouldn't have put fire on the ball. He was overshooting guys. He was throwing into coverage when he had guys open in other areas. i I'm not happy with his decision making today. Yeah, it was honestly like he outside of the yardage from the drop, he probably ended up with the stat line that he kind of deserved in a weird way to say it because.
00:40:26
Speaker
obviously the one that he he couldn't have handed the ball to Christian much better than he did on that deep throw but then the next two plays those were kind of for especially the third down play was was really a forced throw even the one to to read on second down though it was kind of like you know you still got two timeouts and you can get in you know you don't have to go for it all here kind of this isn't a there's only 10 seconds left in a game that you're down four kind of situation like you you've got you're going into the half and you're up 10 points kind of thing so that part of it though the play he should have been intercepted on
00:41:01
Speaker
i'd have to watch I don't have the all 22 so I can't tell if he just like never saw Jair Brown on that play or if he kind of just said screw it I'm feeling good. Like you said if he just thought I'm feeling really healthy and I can throw this thing in there kind of thing. It's hard to say on that near interception. And then the two sacks he took were just really weird sacks to take because He had a clean pocket on both plays and he kind of just ran up in the pocket for no reason. And even you could hear like the the disdain from Brady in those situations. He's like, I don't know what he's doing kind of thing. it' that The first one was worse because I thought he had time to like,
00:41:44
Speaker
not run up the pocket but like take one step up and then kind of wait for someone to break open and then the second sack i thought he should have just thrown it to brooks like really quickly and let brooks try and juke one guy out and make a play kind of thing and stuff so i agree with you like around that middle third of the game i thought he was pretty solid but weren't at the point of the season where his play is under a microscope. And if Green Bay is going to go where we need them, where we want them to go, he's got to be better than that. So I agree. like I wouldn't go full moldy, but there was enough things in this game where it's kind of like he was inches away from having a better, but also inches away from having a bus worse a much worse stat line. So yeah.
00:42:30
Speaker
I agree with you as opposed to last week where it was literally one throw that like tarnished his game. Today's game was like a handful, maybe a little more plays where you're kind of like, what are we doing here and stuff? So got to clean it up. But overall, like I said, overall, a solid B minus game from love. But if the end goal is to contend, he's got to be better than he was today. And the thing about it is we talk about how the oh The special teams got lucky with the the penalties. Jordan got lucky because of some drops, because there could have been two or three interceptions thrown out there. There was one that bounced off that green shoulder. There's the the brown one that you were just talking about. And there were just a couple of others that had there been anybody paying attention or whatever that
00:43:28
Speaker
It could have easily been interceptions. So he lucked out on that one, too. And so, yeah, it's a stale one. So do you have anything else stale? Because I'm i'm struggling trying to figure out anything else. No, other than that, I think we're good on stale. All right. So here we go. It's a moldy cheese. What you got today for moldy? Fox.

Fan Frustrations with Broadcast Interruptions

00:43:57
Speaker
or and the nfl as a whole I'm getting sick and tired of these overtimes that happen and then we don't get to watch our game because we're stuck watching two loser teams play their fucking overtime game. It's not even that it's not even that part of it. I understand that that's the broadcast rules and you have to show the end of the game.
00:44:18
Speaker
Why do we have to go to a full fucking commercial timeout in between the two? Like you're already, and especially to show Fox programming commercials, like fuck that. End the game. Why not do the picture in picture thing? i Exactly. Like what's the deal with that? Like you've definitely showed up a bunch of commercials going into the other game. Put the two on, do the picture in picture, whatever the fuck, and yeah, just get it I cringe every time it's like, like that's it for the cowboys and the redskins. okay And especially the cowboys redskins one where it was like being held up due to an injury and stuff. and it's like Or the commanders. But it's like the end of the game is being held up due to an injury. like
00:45:08
Speaker
and not me But it's like, okay, like they're not coming back. I know they had a miracle play already and stuff, but whatever. If they did score the touchdown, it's not like a touchdown, the the six points alone would have tied or won them the game. So if they score, do a picture in picture, you can show the highlight and, you know,
00:45:28
Speaker
The booth guys are all really good with the like, oh my goodness, something just happened in that game. We'll take you picture in picture and you'll see what happened. and But like the fact that the touchdown wouldn't have ended the game either way makes it even stupider that we had to stay there for one more play. But then, yeah, and then you, like I said, the the coup de gras on top of the thing is the fact that, oh, and you're going to go to a full on two minute commercial break on top of it. Like I said,
00:45:56
Speaker
I wouldn't even, not that it's excusable either way, but especially to show three, like, Fox programming updates. It's like, give me a friggin' break! Like, don't promote your own channel at the expense of the thing we're all here to watch, you assholes! Like, put the friggin' game on! So you had Washington and Dallas? Yeah. We had Chicago, Minnesota.
00:46:20
Speaker
The God I'm not in the Midwest. So we were having to watch the Chicago, Minnesota thing the whole time. So I didn't get to see the majority of the first drive for the Packers. So why not just do the split view thing like we do with our podcast where I can see this game on this side and this game on this side. Most of us have large ass fucking TVs in our living rooms that we can watch this off of.
00:46:48
Speaker
You're still doing you're you're still covering your broadcast You can leave the audio one for the one that you have to get through before the other one starts But at least give me the option to watch this Yeah, and like I said like to to stop it for commercials for your own channels programming. That's bush league bullshit the the only saving grace I have is I have Sunday ticket and so like it's really weird because like with Sunday ticket you You get all the games through Sunday ticket, except for the ones that are like your market's quote unquote national broadcast games. But when this situation happens where it's you know the the national brought the early national broadcast game goes to overtime and stuff,
00:47:32
Speaker
so The Sunday ticket feed for that for the Packers game will work, and then it cuts immediately when the national broadcast cuts over. But it was to the point where I was like, I didn't want to be flipping between the two because I was like, the game ended, like just show me my freaking game already, you assholes. like Don't give me. And so, yeah, like it cut in right after Jacob's like second big run of the drive and stuff. And it's like cutting in as like, oh, like Josh Jacobs is off to a really great start kind of thing. I'm like, I would have liked to see that. We got cut into, I think it was just after the Jacobs touchdown is when we finally got to see the game.

Need for Improved Broadcast Technology

00:48:17
Speaker
So I didn't get to see it. Yeah.
00:48:20
Speaker
It was it was ridiculous. I didn't get to see the whole first drive. I didn't know who had possession first. I didn't know any of that stuff because I was stuck watching. And what made it worse for the Bears Vikings one is one of the like the lying judges got nailed. So they were on an injury time out for the fucking mind judge. Oh, God.
00:48:41
Speaker
yeah like so not to make light of any injuries or anything but right that's just completely fucking ridiculous that you know okay while you're dealing with that cut to the packer game so i can watch at least a little bit of that well and it goes and especially for us nfc nfc fans it goes back to fox's just egregiously shameless commercial plugging like The NFL ones aren't nearly as bad as what they do for their fucking college games because I'm sure the NFL has more of like guidelines and restrictions in what they allow the Fox to do for NFL broadcasts, but like
00:49:20
Speaker
I mean, thank God we don't get the college, fought the Fox college special, which is touchdown commercial break, kickoff, commercial break, start of drive. And then, oh, quarter ended commercial break. And it's like, you just had four frigging commercial breaks in like 12 minutes of real time game. Yeah. you So like that with the NFL that no matter, it was like, okay, kick off commercial first drive, second drive, third drive, third now.
00:49:50
Speaker
I mean, first place, second place, third foot down, four an hour commercial. And it just would, and it's ridiculous. And, but you would think with the technology that we have that they could come up with some kind of better situation, at least with the college football, if I had to, I could jump online and go to like Fox Sports and it would give me the option to,
00:50:18
Speaker
You know watch this game that game or whatever or I'm not telling people to do this But if you have a VPN you can get different broadcasts on Using your VPN on your inner through your internet so I mean you have those options but you can't do that when this is the game of the week and it won't jump to that game of the week until the other two games are done and so yeah i and i don't understand why they call it the game of the week if they're not gonna drop everything and go to that game yeah like you said i wouldn't even complain if we were like the small picture in picture or anything but like god damn it just show the freaking game like you both have million-dollar conglomerate and all that kind of shit like you can put something on our screen to let us know what's happening like
00:51:13
Speaker
Yeah, so I agree. That is by far the moldiest of the moldy. It's been a few years since we've dealt with one of those. I know the last really big one was the the ah ah Pittsburgh game from back in 2021 where, like, we didn't know that Pittsburgh had scored on their first drive because none of us saw it kind of thing and stuff. But yeah, like... It seems like whenever the Packers are in the the afternoon game or whatever that it always ends up being the game before it goes into overtime or there's some kind of delay or they jump to a different game to finish out that game before going to the Packer game and
00:51:54
Speaker
I wish I wasn't muted right now because they are talking about Green Bay on Sunday night. I think it's because we're the home team for the Thanksgiving game and that and NBC carries the third and the third Thanksgiving game. So they're like, you know, they're laying the carpet out for us. I mean, I don't do that kind of thing. But truthfully, if it was on Amazon, I wouldn't be able to watch it unless I had it on my phone.
00:52:22
Speaker
because somehow they I can get on Amazon at work, but I can't watch anything video wise on Amazon at work. So they've got that all completely blocked off. But you know, it's just it. You would think with as much money as this fucking league has, they would finally and i this is through all the sports. They would finally come up with a way to stream where I can watch whatever fucking game I want.
00:52:51
Speaker
You know, if I just want to watch Packer games, I should be able to just say, I want Packers pay, you know, $150, $200 a year. And I get nothing but every single Green Bay Packer game with the announcers that I want for that fucking game. You know, if I just want to listen to Wayne and Larry talk about, you know, daggers and, you know, cheese curds and, and shit like that, I should be able to listen to Wayne and Larry talk while I'm watching the fucking game.
00:53:22
Speaker
Am I out of my soapbox yet? You tell me. But no seriously, I'm... Excuse me. I agree. like and And it wouldn't be as bad if we didn't have those games where it's like, whether Green Bay is on the good or the bad side of it, we've all seen the ones where they're like, this game is over, so we're going to take you to a more competitive game. It's like, wait a minute.
00:53:46
Speaker
like wait like Why, why don't you let me see, like, okay, yeah, the times the Packers are getting their shit kicked, like, great, like, good, taking off my TV. But the times are the green base, the one up 40 points, like, I want to see the end of that, god damn it. Like, don't, don't ruin my enjoyment. So yeah, like, I agree, like, it's such a weird, like, having your cake and eating it too by the broadcasting networks. But yeah, that's our definitively bad moldy for the week.
00:54:18
Speaker
Honestly, have anything else for moldy? Cause I know like it wasn't a bad game. I mean, there were some stale takes and there were some things that they definitely need to

Conservative Play Due to Short Week

00:54:28
Speaker
work on. And I wonder if they were being a touch more conservative just because of the short week, but you know, it just, I don't think there's too much to really overly complain about.
00:54:42
Speaker
I don't even think the people that can complain that usually complain about Quay and that can really sit there and complain about Honestly, it was good it was a good week for a lot of our brands that were dragging along across the finish line on this season. So yeah, I agree with you. not not a lot of moldy tap Not a lot of things that stick out in the boldy category for us. So unless you have anything else for this week,
00:55:22
Speaker
i Oh, we will be keeping our usual broadcasting schedule. We'll record Wednesday night. The preview episode will come out day of the game since it's a Thursday night game. Anything else, Joe, for this week or? I know of. We should be able to keep normal throughout the week. So I think we're good. All right. so And I want to point this out because we had this on the live stream And True North, Dan Whelan will be known as the Celtic Cannon if it kills me.
00:55:55
Speaker
I don't care. I love it. i he He is the Celtic Cannon. Put it on a shirt. All right, let's see how many times from Wednesday I can screw this one up.
00:56:08
Speaker
joe had the Joe had the decency to write up an ad read for you guys, but of course he had the wisdom to give it to me to read. So here we go. This one is for the... Let's change this. I actually hired his wife, the one with the brains to do it, to where we could just record it and plug it in. He's deciding to read it off right now. so Scratch that. We're going to table that for a later time.
00:56:32
Speaker
It is a really well-written ad read, so I will not butcher your fine words, my good sir. But we appreciate you joining us for this game recap. As we said, the Packers pick up an absolutely monumental W for their eighth of the season. I know that the Niners aren't, you know, the they're not, they don't have the same you know shimmer that they usually do at this point of a season but they're all imported for Green Bay at this point. get the double whammy of picking up an imported wind to keep stride with the Lions and the Vikings and you also put the Niners that closer to in the grave for the their postseason hopes on the season and you add it all up and it's just a really important game you know a potential tipping point for the season
00:57:15
Speaker
And you really like to see that Green Bay came through in the main phases of the game. So please check out the website, ohanapackers.org. As we buried the lead a bit, check out our merch. We have great initiatives running.

The Packers bounce back from a lackluster showing in Chicago to secure their eighth win of the season with a by pe the but beating the doors off of the Niners when it all was said and done. Just an absolutely necessary win for the Packers at this point of the season. Love to see it. And hope that has them rolling through this short week where they play the Dolphins on Thanksgiving. But for now, that's Iowa Joe. I'm Mike. Go Pack Go and Aloha.
