what is up goal line listeners we are finally finally all the way back you know we've had a couple nibbles uh the last couple weeks you know we had a couple little teasers two weeks ago in college football but we had a full slate of college games this past weekend and more importantly we got a
00:00:30
Speaker
whole menu of NFL games to go through this weekend in preview. We're back to the classic goal line formula. You guys grew to know and love last season and we're ready to bring it to you. Jordan, what's going on, man? Yeah, man. It's been a good weekend.
Nebraska Football Excitement
00:00:45
Speaker
Like Seth said, we had a full weekend of college football starting Thursday night.
00:00:48
Speaker
Uh, me and Ari went to the Nebraska game on Saturday night with some friends and yeah, it was the, uh, what was the, the vibes at the game, man? Is everybody hyped up for this season, dude? Is Cornhusker football back? Yeah, dude, it's definitely different. I mean, the last five years, there has been not nothing from the quarterback position. It's just been mediocre at best. I mean, they just have nothing. And then you bring in a five star quarterback, the number one quarterback recruit front from high school last year. And
00:01:18
Speaker
Dude, that stadium was on fire for an opening game since like probably the 90s. I can't ever remember an opening game being that lit and everybody was just into it. Like the tailgates were insane. And yeah, it was, it was loud. Like Matt Roll talked about it after the game. He was like, that was a really loud stadium and it was hot, man. The feels like was like 95 and we're just baking in the sun. So
00:01:42
Speaker
Yeah, this weekend is going to be special. It's only supposed to be like 75 degrees on Saturday, and this is one of the hardest tickets in college football to get. So this is going to be an interesting week. Do they serve beer at the stadium or is it dry? They do not. So they're trying to pass it. Yeah, they're trying to pass it. They sell it at every other sporting event.
00:02:03
Speaker
I know it's a little hit or miss at the different college football stadiums, man. But yeah, you're right, dude. The Buzz is definitely there with Raula. What's his first name?
00:02:12
Speaker
Dylan Riola. Yeah, son of perennial Pro Bowl or Dominic Riola. He used to play center for the Lions. Yeah, to me, man, just as a casual college football observer, the last time I remember this much just positive energy and buzz around Nebraska is when Scott Frost was coming home. And obviously, that didn't quite pan out, man. But yeah, dude, I'm rooting for you guys, man. I hope you guys have a good season.
00:02:35
Speaker
I, I came up, dude. I, I broke my, you know, I popped my football cherry dude on early nineties college football, dude. So I always remember those bad-ass Tom Osborne, Nebraska teams, you know, Tommy Frazier still probably, he's probably in my like top 10 or 12 favorite football players ever. Yeah. Watching him play like
00:02:52
Speaker
as a kid, I actually didn't know. I mean, as a kid, I just, I didn't know how good I had it and how, how good Nebraska was at that point. I mean, I knew they were good cause any loss was like considered monumental here. You know, like, I mean, when they lost a game, it was like, dude, people are going to burn their houses down. I mean, it was, it was serious when they lose a game. So obviously growing up with that and then, um, having to deal with, with this for like the last 20 years, basically. And Ari
00:03:20
Speaker
She lived here when she was a kid, but she didn't like football at all. And just like the first game I took her to, I'll never forget, Bill Callahan was the coach. We went to a Texas Tech game and Nebraska lost like 70 to 20. And Ari's like, God, this is what you're so excited about. That's the worst part is Ari's like, oh my God, this was so much fun. And I'm like, what was fun? I loved everything about this. I'm like, they just got beat by 50 on their home field. Like, no, this was not fun.
00:03:50
Speaker
I remember that 95 team, man, that beat Florida in the national championship game, dude. In Florida, I mean, looking back, I feel like we almost took for granted how ahead of their time there were with that Steve Spurrier pass happy attack, man. I mean, they were high powered, dude. They got, I want to say something like 63 to 17 or something like that in the national championship game.
00:04:08
Speaker
at 62 to 24. Remember it very well. That was the Tommy Armstrong run or not Tommy. I'm sorry. Tommy Frazier. Yeah. The year, the year before was the year when he came back from injury, right? And had the heroic, uh, let, let him came in at like halftime of the national championship game to lead them because they had Brooke Beringer on those teams too. And he was like,
00:04:29
Speaker
an incredible quarterback until he passed away in the plane crash. But yeah, dude, it was just, I'll never forget that growing up, like watching Lawrence Phillips and those guys, just an absolute monster of a football team.
00:04:42
Speaker
Yeah, the one-year Peyton Manning actually made it to a national championship game. They got dropped also. So yeah, like go back and watch. Just search like, go on YouTube and search like the Nebraska 90s triple option and just look at some of the, I mean, they had awesome running backs and quarterbacks, but just look at these road graders they had on the O-line. I'm talking just driving people back into the freaking bleachers, man. It's just, it's fun to watch because you really, you don't see anything like that. You know, even like the teams that have really run heavy attacks now, I feel like it's more like,
00:05:10
Speaker
finesse stuff, dude. Yeah. It's like finesse motion counters, which is really, really cool to watch, but it's not the same as that. Just line ups, you know, we're going to hit you right in the freaking face all night. Wisconsin in the last like 10 years is probably the closest thing to it because they got just a bunch of road, greater offensive lineman, like 340 pound offensive lineman. But I mean, 90% of college football is zoned blocking for running now. Like there's no
00:05:33
Speaker
There's no running straight at you really in college football anymore. And it kind of sucks. I mean, you miss that just bully ball that they used to play like, dude. And the worst part is, is everybody knew it was coming and they practiced for it all week and then they did it and nobody could stop it.
00:05:49
Speaker
That was that year Tennessee finally won the national championship, dude. They were just playing Smash Mel. Travis Henry at running back, dude. And they were just running down people's throat. And Team Martin was just playing super efficient at QB. Dude, he was spoiled dead that year, too. Yeah, maybe we could do a spin off of goal line where we just do like a 90s college football nostalgia, dude, which would be like a different team or a game or a player or something to look at, man, just some one-offs.
College Football Weekend Recap
00:06:12
Speaker
Let's get into the top stories of the week.
00:06:22
Speaker
Uh, I figured it'd be a good time to kind of just talk about the weekend that was for college football. There's not a whole lot of stories for NFL right now, just cause I mean, kickoff is this go time. We'll have a ton more stories for NFL next week, but let's just kind of reflect on what we saw from college this weekend and, um, just kind of go from there. Who impressed you the most this weekend?
00:06:44
Speaker
Did Nico, the Tennessee Vols new starting quarterback, had a lot of hype coming in. It was against Chattanooga, but still, they looked freaking unstoppable, man. Just a really tough team. And then Georgia, obviously, dude. Georgia just, you know, Clemson hung with them the first half, but you just see the depth of talent. That's really when those powerhouse teams, man, they started to show it in the second half because they have just fresh D linemen and pass rushers. They can just keep rolling in and using up just smothering teams, man, and wearing them out.
00:07:12
Speaker
Um, so I, I thought, you know, Georgia was obviously the favorite to win the national championship coming in. I feel like they even kind of stretch their gap amongst the, uh, between them and the rest of the field after that week one performance against Clemson. Dude. And the craziest thing is, is Clemson is deep too. Like, yeah, I mean, I still think they're going to be a really good football team. I just, just to repeat what you were just saying, I just,
00:07:34
Speaker
Georgia is so much better than everybody else. And we, we said it last week, dude, this is Georgia is going to be on a mission this year. Like they're, they're pissed. They're going to be on a revenge tour and it showed on Saturday. I mean, it just looked incredible. Also.
00:07:49
Speaker
Dude, the scheduling, who the fuck would schedule that game at noon? There is no way that game should have been at noon. Like 230 at the absolute earliest. Well, 330 East coast time. But I just, I hate when they've been around time game. There's no way that game should have been at 11 o'clock in the morning, central time. Like, I mean, it was nine o'clock in the morning on the West coast when that game kicked off. I just, I don't,
00:08:14
Speaker
I get the big noon kickoff. I get the appeal behind that, but a game that big should never be played that early in the day. I don't think I, and kind of as the day went on, it was like, damn dude, it would be really nice to have this in the two 30 window as opposed to what we're watching. Um, they impressed me and then I thought, um,
00:08:35
Speaker
Oh God. Arizona looked really good that night. They're all fast. They had the receiver put up 300 yards. Yeah. As far as who did, who did you think looked the worst on Saturday as far as teams with a lot of hype behind them? Well, all weekend, I guess. I mean, starting Thursday.
00:08:52
Speaker
Costco Thursday, dude. I thought Colorado, Colorado looked like they picked up right where they left off on that second, second half slump, obviously because of Dion and Shador and everything else going on around them. They get way more attention and hype than they deserve. Um, but they're basically like a de facto top 25 team, at least by the way they're covered in dude, the lines just, I mean, co North Dakota state left a lot of plays, a lot of points on the board. They could, they totally could have won that game. I felt like
00:09:18
Speaker
Shador played really, really good. And Travis Hunter was just transcendent. You know, I think he, I think he only missed two snaps between offense and defense all night long. Basically single-handedly carried that team to victory, man. But, uh, I know we're going to talk about it a little bit later. We're going to preview them in Nebraska. I think that we're in store for a very, very ugly year for Colorado and they're damn lucky. They got that win on Thursday, man. Cause I think the wins are going to be hard to come by this season.
00:09:42
Speaker
I think Colorado is definitely the easy answer for like teams that probably are going to disappoint this year. Um, dude, Oregon just hanging on against, I know. I mean, when, when I was watching that game, I was like scrolling Twitter and people are like, this would probably be the biggest upset in college football history if they lost
00:10:01
Speaker
It was a one score game late in that game, man. So yeah, I'd hope I'm with him, you know, it's week one So I don't want to I don't overreact. I mean Oregon's got a really good track record over the last 10 15 years
00:10:14
Speaker
But yeah, that's definitely raises the eyebrow. Keep an eye on how they look in week two now. Dude, the crazy thing is, is like the stats were there for them to run away with this game. They had 487 yards of offense in that game, 31 first downs, and they scored 24 points.
00:10:32
Speaker
I don't know what happened there. The other one, dude, Texas A&M, I just don't understand how you can be a team, an elite team in Texas and not have a quarterback. It's just
00:10:46
Speaker
And the fact that they were. Especially with the money they pumped, dude. That is a very, very well- we'll say well-resourced program. They have a very rich alumni base. They dump a ton of money. I mean, they paid what ended up being $70 million or something for Jimbo Fisher's buyout that they were happy to pay. That's a team that will, they're going to spend the NIL money. I just don't know how you can't go out and get one of these top high school kids or grab one of the premium guys from the transfer portal.
00:11:14
Speaker
Yeah, that was bad. You know, Kyle field gets hyped up. Is this crazy place to play, dude? I think it's one of the most overhyped home field advantages there is. Cause I don't think any team is scared to go in there and come away with the win. I mean, when, when that's the quarterback you trot out there, I don't know who would be scared. Like
00:11:30
Speaker
That kid looked like he had no business being on the field on Saturday night and they left him in there for the entire game. He was the lowest rated quarterback in all the games that were played this weekend. I just saw that today. He had a 28 quarterback rating.
00:11:45
Speaker
I don't know, man, that's, that is a bad look for Texas A&M that they trotted that kid out there for the biggest game possibly of their season. I mean, that's a terrible way to start off your season. If you're Texas A&M Notre Dame, on the other hand, very good defense, um, offense still leaves a lot to be desired. Their offensive line did not look good in that game. Um, and hopefully they start rolling Riley Leonard out more cause he's, he's not a pocket passer and hopefully they learn that after one week one. So yeah.
00:12:15
Speaker
It was a good weekend of football though. I'm a fan of their coach, dude, like just watching him, like the clips they were showing like in the locker room, a pregame, I was like, bro, somebody find me a helmet and shorter pads, man. I'm ready to go play some football right now. Yeah. Freeman's a good coach. I still think.
00:12:28
Speaker
I still think he should have stayed a defensive coordinator a little bit longer, but Brian Kelly leaving Notre Dame, obviously they had to speed that process up. But yeah, he's a really good coach and he knows how to recruit. So yeah, they're in for a good season, man. Me and you both kind of thought they were a little overhyped going into the weekend, but yeah, man, their defense looked good.
00:12:48
Speaker
It felt like LSU laid a little bit of an egg last night too. It felt like that game was right there for them to win, man, against USC. I think that's something like five straights. I think they've lost every season opener since 2019 when they won the national championship now. But yeah, I don't want to talk too bad about them because what's the name? Garrett Nussmeyer or whatever, dude. He hung 400 yards and 40 points on me on NCAA football last night.
00:13:13
Speaker
Yeah, I felt like they, it seemed like they were the better team, man. And they just, you know, USC ended up getting the win on him. Dude, Brian Kelly has this like issue of taking his foot off the gas in the fourth quarter. It's always been one of his things. It seemed like he was trying to run the clock out when there was like six minutes left in the game rather than just run his offense. And I don't know, man. I think he deserves a lot of the blame for that because they definitely should have won
NFL Season Awards Predictions
00:13:38
Speaker
that game. There's no way they should have lost that game.
00:13:42
Speaker
Um, okay. So let's move into, because for one of our other news stories, I figure we'll do our NFL picks for the season. As far as like MVP, Superbowl winner, offensive player of the year and all that stuff. So let's, uh, let's do those now. Um, we'll start with coach of the year. Uh, Seth, who do you got for coach of the year? Dude, I think the chargers are going to win the AFC West, man. I think Harbaugh is getting it, dude. The vibes coming out of there, the stories I'm hearing, it's like.
00:14:11
Speaker
They're going to freaking, you know, they're getting hard-nosed, dude. Like we talked about getting away from that bully ball, dude. I think the charters might be bringing it back. So I say Harbaugh wins coach of the year. I'm going to go with the easy choice. I think it's Dan Campbell this year. Um, Cleveland just having so many injuries they had last year. It kind of had to be Stefanski after the year they had. So I think Campbell will get it this year. I think he's going to learn from his mistakes last year and they're going to be better for it. So I'll say Dan Campbell gets it this year.
00:14:38
Speaker
See to me, man, I mean, I like Dan Campbell as a coach, but you know, this is the coach of the year more than really any of the other awards. It's so narrative driven. And I don't know what the Lions could do in the regular season. Like, I mean, I felt like they're going to have to go like for him to win it. I think they need to go like 14 and three, 15 and two, something like that for him to get coach of the year. But I mean, I know he's going to have a great performance this year. I just don't know if it's going to be enough to get the votes you need for
00:15:04
Speaker
Uh, you know, coach of the year, you're not wrong. I mean, it is definitely a, it's a weird award the way they give it. I mean, it almost seems like they give it to just a team that overachieved. So yeah, I definitely can see what you're saying about horrible getting it. I do. I just, I don't know, man, Herbert being hurt already is not giving me good vibes about that team. Like I just, I have a weird feeling they're going to start off really slow out of the gate.
00:15:33
Speaker
Uh, I mean, possibly did, but I don't know, man. I mean, heart, I just, like I said, I think the AFC West going to be down a little bit. I think the chiefs are, we've said it so many times, they're going to be sleepwalking through the first five, six weeks. I just think that, you know, if they can overcome, you know, Herbert getting, being hurt, I think they could, and then they could get out to an early lead that the chiefs just can't make up. Yeah. I mean, I'm not disagreeing with you on that. Uh, let's do defensive player of the year next.
00:15:59
Speaker
I think sauce Gardner arrives in a big wave, man. I think I think he finally breaks out. The Jets are going to get a lot of tension with Aaron Rodgers there, and I think he's you know he's arguably already the best corner cover back in the league. I think he gets the you know all the hype and attention to go with it this year and I think he grabs that award.
00:16:16
Speaker
I'm going to go Michael Parsons this year. I think he has so much to play for cause he's playing for his contract at this point. I just usually when edge rushers are playing for a contract, they usually go off that year. And I feel like he really faded down the stretch last year, especially that playoff game. Like you didn't hear a peep out of him, that entire playoff game. And I feel like everybody's talked about it all off season. I think he's due for a really big year and I, I think he ends up with 20 plus sacks this year.
00:16:47
Speaker
I'll do offensive player of the year. I'll start for offensive player of the year since you started everything else.
00:16:53
Speaker
Dude, I just, I have a feeling a running backs going to get it this year. And I think the guy that is going to do it is Bruce Hall. I just feel like he's going to be, he's going to be a linchpin of that offense. And if they're going to do as well as I think they're going to do, they're going to need to lean on him heavily because Rogers can't be back there. Chuck in the wall 45 times a game. If they're going to win, if they're going to make it for in the playoffs this year.
00:17:19
Speaker
To me, man, I think this one's going to be strictly off the numbers. I think Justin Jefferson is finally going to break 2,000 yards receiving, man. I think the Vikings are going to be down a lot of games. But Sam Donald, I think he's got a chance to match Jamis Winston. I think that was what, either in 2019 or 2020, when he had the 30-30 season, 30 touchdowns, 30 completions, I think Donald's going to be slinging that thing all over the field.
00:17:46
Speaker
He's an aggressive quarterback. He's got a strong arm. And like I said, I think there's gonna be thrown at a chunk. So I think the volume is gonna be there if he stays healthy for him to break 2,000 yards this season. And I think if he does that, it's gonna be such a landmark achievement that there's no choice but for the voters to give him the award, even though the Vikings are probably gonna be pretty bad this year.
00:18:04
Speaker
Yeah, I definitely could see that because they are going to be chucking that thing a lot this season. I mean, And if you're Sam Darnold, dude, why not just force feed it to Justin Jefferson? We know he's good enough, dude, that like, I feel like he's kind of bulletproof, whatever the coverage is, he's going to get open and catch the ball. So I just think he's going to have a ton of opportunity this year. I think the big thing is making sure he stays healthy and stays on the field, dude, because I think the Viking season could be bad enough that
00:18:28
Speaker
You know, Justin Jefferson gets to, you know, you're going to get banged up, right? That's just life in the NFL. I think it gets you could get to a point where it's like.
00:18:38
Speaker
you know, maybe if they, if they were in a playoff race, he'd play, but maybe they go in like shut him down with five or six weeks to go in the season, something like that, you know? Yeah, I can see that too, but I agree with you. He's going to get force fed the ball season and everybody seems to be completely down on everything about the Vikings offense, especially TJ, Hawkinson, dude, like you just said, they're going to have to throw the ball. Those guys are going to get touches and I don't really understand it. And I think their offense isn't going to be a problem. Like I think Donald's going to play well. I mean,
00:19:06
Speaker
Yeah, he's the better right away. We just I guess we don't know for sure. So
00:19:12
Speaker
No, I think I think Donald's gonna end up being like that new like Ryan Fitzpatrick dude Like he's he's fine like he's always good enough to come in and like he can make plays right? He's not a backup quarterback that you're just all hope is lost if he comes in the game I think but you know, he's never gonna be the long-term answer for anybody. No for sure Let's do rookie there We're just gonna do offensive rookie of the year cuz dude defensive rookie leaders. So goddamn hard to pick this year I got a pick for defense. Okay here if you
00:19:38
Speaker
that one after that to do that. I think a lot too, a lot too, man. I was really hoping the Falcons were going to grab him instead of Phoenix, but you know, he's on for the Colts dude. I think he's going to wreck shit is pass rusher. I know our buddy Hawk's going to love hearing that. I think he's going to go off and put up some big numbers, some sack numbers, man, pass rusher out of UCLA. I believe Dallas Turner is going to be really good for the Vikings too. That was the other guy. I wanted the Falcons to grab out of Alabama. I think he's going to be really good. But that's, it's always hard to pick defensive rookie of the year.
00:20:08
Speaker
uh, offensive rookie of the year, dude, I think there's only two options for this honestly. And I think it's going to be one of the two quarterbacks. I think it's going to be either Jayden Daniels or Caleb Williams. Like they usually want to give it to a quarterback just to kind of elevate somebody with that offensive rookie of the year status. And I just think I'm going to say it's going to be Jayden Daniels.
00:20:29
Speaker
To me, man, he's good. He's electric. I don't know if he survives the season, man. He seems so slight to me, dude. He took some big hits in college, dude. I don't know if he makes it through the season. I'll eat crow and say that Caleb Williams has looked awesome in the preseason. You guys know I was never high on him all through our draft episodes and stuff.
00:20:49
Speaker
Um, he's looked amazing. I think it's him or if he really breaks out, dude, I think, uh, Roma doomsday has got a chance, man. Cause I think he's going to be that go-to receiver. I could see him, you know, putting up enough numbers to where he actually steals some of the shine from Caleb Williams. Cause I think he's just an absolutely tremendous receiver. So, uh, yeah, I, I think it's going to be one of the two Chicago top 10 picks though. I just don't think Rome is going to have that much of an impact this season, dude. I mean,
00:21:15
Speaker
Dude, when you have Keenan Allen, DJ Moore and Cole commit already to go with DeAndre Swift, I just, dude, I think those numbers are going to get spread out so much between the five position players. That's why I think Caleb Williams is going to obviously be up there. I mean, if- They got a nice team put together, dude. If the Bears quarterback can't break 4,000 yards with this team, because that's the only team in the NFL that has never had a 4,000 yard passer is the Bears.
00:21:42
Speaker
That's what I was gonna say, man. The Bears, even with that, I mean, that just dream lineup you just rolled out, dude, it's the Bears. They'll probably find a way to fuck this up somehow, but a lot to be excited for. I mean, they put some points on the board with Justin Fields last year. They just had the killer turnovers between the fumbles and interceptions. Yeah, for sure. Okay, let's go with the big one. MVP, who you got? Steve, so I've been...
00:22:09
Speaker
I've been back and forth this like coach of the year. It's another one that's narrative driven, dude. So I kind of got, I'm going to kind of cheat, man. I got two that are kind of the standards that it's, it's probably a good, you know, a good bet to throw some money on them in a year, dude. I think Josh Allen and Patrick Holmes are both going to be right there, dude. I could see Patrick Holmes getting like the
00:22:29
Speaker
the lifetime achievement type deal, right? Like if nobody really breaks out and he's kind of hanging out there, like screw it, the voters vote for Patrick Mahomes, because I'm sure he's going to be electric. I don't think the numbers are going to be where he's at on some of his biggest year stats wise, but I think he's going to be playing just as good as ever. I think Josh Allen is going to get a lot of credit because I don't think his supporting cast is what it's been the last couple of years, but I think he's going to have another really tremendous season.
00:22:53
Speaker
Um, but dude, the one I'm looking at, man, Jordan love, dude, I think Jordan love, if he continues what he, I mean, he, if he would have played the first half of last season, like he did the second half, I think he would have beat Lamar for MVP last season. I, I, he got, you know how high I am on the Packers, man. I think Jordan Lowe's going to ball out and I think he's got a damn good chance at winning MVP. And he's the kind of guy that voters like, you know, breakout quarterback in his second year. Those are the kinds of guys that ended up generating a lot of support for, uh, for this type of deal.
00:23:18
Speaker
You just sheenad the shit out of that one. Like three goddamn picks. I feel like the first two were Jimmy's dude. I was throwing them out there. Jordan Love will be the one I throw the pick on, dude. But I, you know, I think there's a strong, again, dude, I don't think I'm, uh, that that's like a freezing cold take saying that Josh Allen and Patrick Mahomes got a good chance at winning MVP. Yeah. I mean, Lamar still has a great chance as well. Like he could have his best season ever this season. Like, I mean, just
00:23:43
Speaker
those guys are always going to be up there. So I was down between two and one of them was Jordan love. So I'll do the other one. I'm going to go Joe burrow. I just think this guy has so much to prove this year, assuming he still stays healthy, which that's been his biggest problem. I just, I think this team on offense is just going to be lights out. I, I feel like everything is there for them to do it. T Higgins is on a contract here. Jamar chase is on a contract here.
00:24:09
Speaker
I just feel like those two guys, Jamar chase plan. Do we know? They said, they said this last week that he's going to play. We, they were confident he was going to play week one. So did you hear the new term, what they're using for what he, he did this off season. It's called the hold in instead of the hold out. Interesting.
00:24:26
Speaker
You know, you're there, but you're just not practicing. He can't get fined if he's there. I mean, yeah, yeah. So the hold-in is the new deal. So yeah, I'm going to go. I think it's between Burrow and Jordan Love for me. I think Jordan Love, if he plays anything like he did the last 10 weeks of last season, I mean, I could see him run away with MVP, honestly.
00:24:48
Speaker
He was good, dude. I heard, uh, I was listening to the Bill Simmons podcast and they were doing some NFL future stuff and they made the case that, you know, I've talked about a little bit here. I know you're still sky high on the Texans dude. I think they got a little bit of over height reaching in and CJ Stroud numbers wise, he ended up ranking out depending on where you look between like 13th and 16th overall for QB. Now I do think he does some stuff that's
00:25:12
Speaker
kind of the, the intangibles, right? The stuff, the numbers are ever going to show up. I think he is a show some really, really strong leadership and he's definitely got the clutch factor. So I think he's better than that, but numbers wise, he was kind of slightly above the middle of the pack last year as a QB, whereas Jordan Love was just off the charts, man.
00:25:30
Speaker
So I know CJ Stroud's getting a lot of hype for MVP this year too. Is that it for our awards picks? Nope, we got one more. Got a big one. We got a Super Bowl
Super Bowl & Championship Doubts
00:25:39
Speaker
winner. Okay. I was going to say, are we refreshing our Super Bowl picks? I'm sticking with what I picked into the season last year, man. We did kind of futures picks, that episode right after the Super Bowl. I saw nothing this offseason to dissuade me from it. I think that just like Jordan just laid out, man, he made the case for me. I think the Bengals are going to beat the Green Bay Packers in the Super Bowl this year.
00:26:01
Speaker
Yeah, I kind of figured that's where you were gonna go with yours. To me, dude, the Bengals, they're about, you know, obviously injuries dewrote them last year, but they're battle tested, right? We've seen this team go on the road, beat the Chiefs, go toe to toe with the Chiefs. So I don't think they have any fear about going to Kansas City or going to Baltimore and the playoffs, if that's how the cars begin, and the Bills, you know, they took out the Bills in the playoffs too, man, in Buffalo. So I think this team is fearless, right? They got, you know, Joe Burrow's got the Brady factor where like,
00:26:31
Speaker
His teammates believe he's going to lead them to victory no matter who's out there. And I think they're just going to stay healthy this year, man. I think the Bengals are going to get over the top. And the Packers, I think they just continue where they were at. I think they had a good case for that. They should have been the team that really went to the Super Bowl last year. Between them and the Lions, the Niners basically cheated death against both those teams in the playoffs. But yeah, I think the Bengals get it done, man. I think it all comes together. And it's kind of a do or die year for them in a lot of ways also.
00:26:58
Speaker
Yeah, I'm gonna go. I thought about this for the last 24 hours on who I was gonna pick and I was between four teams. I'm gonna go Ravens over lions in the Super Bowl. I just like it, dude. I think the Ravens this year
00:27:13
Speaker
I think them getting Derek Henry showed that they realized the mistakes that they made in the past and not having an elite running back. It really hampered this team down the stretch. I mean, they just had no one to feed the ball to. In that Chiefs game, you could see it, dude. They had to put everything on Lamar's shoulders and he collapsed. He needs to have someone that can shoulder some of the load so he doesn't have to do every single thing.
00:27:38
Speaker
I think Derek Henry is going to be huge for this team. I'm not saying we're getting Derek Henry, uh, five years ago, but I don't, I don't think they need it. I think they need like 70% of Derek Henry from five years ago. Only thing is, man, like I totally get what you're saying. And I've been saying the same thing, right? Like nobody, I don't think anybody could talk shit on Derek Henry if he does come out and is just, you know,
00:28:01
Speaker
It looks like Falcon Steven Jackson this year. You can't hate on him for the body work he's put in. But dude, look at that last game last season against the Jaguars, dude. He busted off a 70 yard run in that game. And next gen stats had it, dude. He had the fourth highest speed reached on an NFL field last year in the last game of the season against the Jaguars, dude. And between him and Lamar Jackson, now you got two game breakers, dude.
00:28:23
Speaker
I mean, Derek Henry is a guy, he's like Tyree killed, dude. Like every time he touches the ball, he could take it to the house, man. Yeah, I'm right there with you, dude. Again, the thing is, dude, like you feel like the clock could strike midnight at any time. But Derek Henry's already way past his expiration date as far as running backs go. But dude, if he's still getting it done the way he did last year, on paper, I don't know how the fuck you beat the Ravens, man. Because between him and Lamar, that's like unstoppable. And they both, they perfectly complement each other.
00:28:51
Speaker
Bro, and the one thing that everyone forgets about this team, they didn't even have Mark Andrews down the stretch at all. Like, they were winning all these games with without Lamar, arguably his number one weapon, dude. I mean, Oh, yeah, that's he's not the number one weapon on team. He's definitely the more his favorite target. You know, I mean, like, that's go to God. I just feel like this team, I mean, on paper, they just they put together a roster that I mean, dude,
00:29:16
Speaker
It's going to be so hard to stop them this year. And like you said, maybe it does come out and Derek Henry just shits the bed the minute he gets on the field and looks like he's 30 years old. But until he does, I'm not believing it. I mean, the dude's an absolute tank and he takes care of his body and he's just, he's just a big dude. And yeah, I, I have high hopes for this team. And on the other side, the lions dude.
00:29:40
Speaker
again, like I just said, I think they're going to learn from their mistakes from last year because I mean, yeah, you can argue the Packers were the hottest team down the stretch, but the Lions were right there, man. I mean, they were a bad call away from beating the Cowboys and getting the two seed in the playoffs last year. They had the Niners beat, man, straight up. They had them beat and it was just a series of snowballing events that
00:30:02
Speaker
they took them out of going to the super bowl. We already saw them beat the chiefs in Kansas city once. So you know, they could go in and beat them at a, at a neutral site in the super bowl. I think I'm going to just say this now. I don't think the 49ers or the chiefs end up in the NFC or AFC championship game. I think they both lose before the championship game. I just, I think the 49ers are on borrowed time at this point. I still think they're going to be really good, but
00:30:25
Speaker
I mean, look how much shit had to break for them last year at the end of the season for them to get where they got. It's just, and still they have the Superbowl one. Like, I don't think anybody's going to argue that point. They have the Superbowl one, but I just think at some point it's going to implode for them.
00:30:41
Speaker
Yeah. I mean, football takes a lot of luck, dude. You got to have some breaks. And like you said, dude, the Packers had him beat, and Brock Purdy just put together a hell of a drive down the stretch against him. And then the Lions really had him beat. And I think it was a drop. He had a drop ball on a third down where that, I can't remember which receiver it was for the Lions, but he had all kinds of green in front of him. That probably would have brought the game in. Josh Granholz. Yep, Josh Granholz.
00:31:06
Speaker
Yeah. If he, if he catches that, you know, they're probably at French field goal range. And if they get, if they get an extra field goal in the third quarter, that's probably ball game. Yeah. The other thing is to
00:31:16
Speaker
his just gambler mindset on these four thousands and stuff. Again, I think he's going to learn from that and I think it's going to make him a better coach. I think it's going to make them a better team. The one thing that makes me the most nervous about the Lions, and I said it last year going into the season, dude, Jared Goff could turn back into a pumpkin at any point and nobody would bat an eye. Like I just,
00:31:38
Speaker
That's the one thing that worries me the most about that team is I, I still don't know if, if you can get another season, like you just got out of Jared Goff this year. So that's my one thing that I worry most about. And I do, I think it's going to end up being lions and Packers and the NFC championship game. I just, I feel like those are the two best teams in the NFC this year. Um, I think the Eagles are right there. I think the Niners are right there, but I just, I think the lions are going to go to the Superbowl, but unfortunately,
00:32:07
Speaker
I think they're just going to run into a juggernaut with the Ravens and lose that game. I think the Lions, yeah, I think they're going to be right there for sure. It wouldn't shock me at all. It seems all the way. Dude, to me, you know, I'm always super friendly on the quarter. I'm kind of soft on the quarterbacks, dude. I think Jared Goff, I think like that fear is a little bit overstated, man. I mean, the dude took the Rams to the Super Bowl, dude. It wasn't like the 2000 Ravens that went to the Super Bowl that year, man. Like the offense was pretty dang good.
00:32:35
Speaker
I think just the fact that he was decent and they shit canned in for Stafford and won the Superbowl the next year. I think that really kind of dogpiled all the, all the hate on, uh, on Jared Goff, man. But I think he's a totally fine start with VV. I also will say this. I thought Stafford was extremely good in his time in Detroit, dude. I think any quarterback that gets to play for McVeigh immediately benefits. Like he, him and Kyle Shanahan have the two most quarterback friendly offenses in the NFL.
00:33:02
Speaker
Yeah, their offenses are totally designed to get guys running wide freaking open, man, which is, uh, you know, yeah, it, you're right. Any, I mean, Baker Mayfield, the decent in his Rams era. That was insane. So all right. Yeah. That's it for NFL stuff. All right. Let's pick a few college games.
00:33:36
Speaker
All right, Jordan, are you still with us? No, I do not support this segment this week. You know, we asked for feedback on that song in the intro. One person wrote in and they said that, yeah, please get rid of the song, dude. But I don't know. That's kind of making me just want to keep it more. We're keeping it at least one more week, man. We'll be open for suggestions, though. If you guys got a better idea for a song for our college intro, let us know, because it was 100% negative feedback, even though it was just one person.
00:34:02
Speaker
on that song, man. Let's start with the game, dude.
Nebraska vs Colorado Game Anticipation
00:34:05
Speaker
Saturday night, you're going to be there. It's going to be a lot of fun. I think I'm going to have two TVs set up on the back porch, watching AEW all out in this Nebraska Colorado game, just because it feels like nut cutting time for Dion. They snuck past North Dakota State, but I think this is going to be the telltale because they put a pretty good whooping on Nebraska week two of the season last year, man, at least scoreboard wise. I think it was actually a little bit closer than the score showed, but
00:34:31
Speaker
I think this is going to be our first real sign of if they've had any progress in the year and a half he's been there now.
00:34:40
Speaker
I think Nebraska is going to blow them out, man. I think that, but, but, but sometimes you just got to go with your gut, dude. And I think Dion, he's prime time, he's neon Dion for a reason, backs against the wall. I think they're cooking up something. They got an extra half a week to prepare for it. I think they're going to come up with a game plan that just gets that freshmen quarterback rattled. And we see Colorado somehow, some way sneak out of the cornfields with the victory.
00:35:08
Speaker
We are beating the fuck out of this team. I'm telling you, I have been to Nebraska games where the crowd is just electric. The Michigan game a couple of years ago is the most recent one. Nebraska ended up losing that game by two points, but they definitely should have won that game at every opportunity to win that game.
00:35:29
Speaker
I think this crowd is going to rattle Dion. I think it's going to rattle Shadoor. I think their defense is not good at all. And the little I saw from Riola on Saturday, I mean, this kid is good. He knows how to read a defense. You watch him, he goes through all of his reads. I don't give a shit who's on that defense. I don't care if Travis Hunter's on that defense. I don't care if Dion's on that defense. Nebraska is going to score on that defense. They're going to run the ball on that defense.
00:35:57
Speaker
And Nebraska's defense was top 40 last year, kept them in almost every game, even with an offense. I couldn't move the ball. They played well against Colorado last year. I know the stats don't show it. Chidora ended up with 400 yards, but I mean, they had like six extra possessions because Nebraska just kept hanging on the ball. I think Nebraska wins by
00:36:18
Speaker
I'll say they went by 17. I just, dude, watching this Colorado team against an FCS school, I don't know, man, their offense and defensive lines just got controlled in that game. And Nebraska has two of the best defensive linemen in college football with Nash Hutchmaker and Ty Robinson. I think those guys are going to be in Shador's face that entire game. And he showed it, man. He still holds the ball way too long.
00:36:40
Speaker
He is decision doesn't like to make the mistakes dude. He's he's all about the TD interception ratio I don't know if that's Deonta number if he's got somebody in his ear Saying like this is the one stat that matters He just did he hates to make mistakes man And that's I think that's gonna be with the NFL scouts really pick a part about me if you see him he I mean
00:37:00
Speaker
Down the goal line, he was throwing it straight up to Travis Hunter and one on one, but I don't know how much of a chance that is. He's so freaking good as a receiver. It seems like this dude is just safe to a fault, man. And the thing about it is, at the next level, you're not going to have that, dude. You're going to have to freaking throw some 50-50 balls, throw it in some tight windows. And it seems like he hates doing that, man.
00:37:20
Speaker
Yeah. And I felt like Colorado ran a lot of offense in that game. Like, I mean, they were, they were doing a lot of stuff. Nebraska ran the most vanilla offense I've ever watched on Saturday and still ended up with 500 yards and 40 points. I just did that. And I could be completely wrong and Colorado could come in and just completely stunned Nebraska. And would I be shocked? No. I mean, it's just kind of what I kind of expect as a Nebraska fan, but
00:37:47
Speaker
dude, I just, I feel like this team has enough playmakers at this point. And like I said, the defense is good enough to get some stops and that's what they're going to need. And I do not think Colorado's defense is good enough to get stops. So yeah, I think Nebraska wins by 17. The vibes are all there for a total ass whooping. Like I said, I know it had to sting last year. We started the episode talking about, you know, nineties college football nostalgia.
00:38:08
Speaker
this was a classic big 12 rivalry, man. Cause back when, uh, you know, Nebraska was running shit, their biggest rival there in the, you know, the big 12 North was Colorado, dude. So a lot, a lot of, a lot of built in hate there in this one. Um, and yeah, Colorado just better strap it up, dude. I think Travis Hunter is going to have to have the game of his life, man. If everyone, any chance of getting out of there with the wind.
00:38:29
Speaker
I think he's going to have an incredible game. I'm not saying they're shutting him down, but yeah, I think he's going to play really well just for, for, uh, for Seth's history purposes. So Colorado has won the last three, three meetings. Nebraska still leads the all time 49 21 and two.
00:38:50
Speaker
Nice. Yeah. This is, I think they win handily on Saturday. I just, I think there's a better team, man. And rule is a really good coach. And the second year is when he always shines with all these teams with Baylor and temple. And I think he's going to do it again, man.
00:39:06
Speaker
All right, Saturday primetime. We also primetime because what times Nebraska, Colorado kid off 30. All right, so 730. We got the Duke's Mayo Classic, man. Tennessee and NC State kind of neutral site, kind of not. I don't know. I'd be one of it. It probably ends up being 50 50. There actually may be more balls fans there because the balls army, they travel, dude. We're going to be in Charlotte, though. Bank of America Stadium for this one. Number 15, Tennessee against number 24 NC State.
00:39:33
Speaker
Dude, I do not like what I saw at all from NC State on Saturday or whatever day they played Friday, Thursday, whatever. I don't know, dude, this weekend has ran together. Yeah, I feel you. I did not like what I saw from them and on the flip side, I loved what I saw from Tennessee. I know it was against Chattanooga, but dude, I think Tennessee boat races NC State in this game. I think they win by 21 plus.
00:39:57
Speaker
Yeah, I sound like a Homer man, but I really think Tennessee is grossly underrated coming into the season, dude. They're only 7.5-point favorites in this one, man. It feels like it should be a little bit more. I'm with you, man. I think they run NC State out of there, dude. And we're eating mayo right out the jar Saturday night.
00:40:13
Speaker
Don't spoonfuls a mayo. Let's go dude. I like you. I like dukes. What's your preferred? You know, Hellman's got it. It's dukes by far. He's got that just that little bit of tangy it just sets it off man Yeah, all right and last the the biggest game of the week in college football. We got Texas
00:40:30
Speaker
Quinn Ewers, Arch Manning, heading into the big house to face Michigan, dude. To me, the vibes have been all bad on Michigan, even going back to last year, dude. I think it's kind of understated how much of a miracle it was them overcoming all the distractions and just noise they had around them to make it through and win that national championship last year. They didn't look super great week one. I think Texas goes in here and hangs it on a man. And I actually think they,
00:40:56
Speaker
beat them pretty good, dude. I don't think it's, I don't think it's particularly close, man. I think Texas is a really, really good team. Uh, and I think they go and show out against the Wolverine Saturday. I think Texas wins. Um, Michigan's offense looked miserable on Saturday outside of Edwards.
00:41:15
Speaker
I don't know if it's a complete block cause I think Michigan's defense is good enough to keep them in it, but I do not feel good about Michigan this year, man. I think there's still going to be a good team, but I could easily see this team ended up losing four games in the regular season. I just do their offense look bad in that game. They let Fresno state hang around for that whole game. I just, I don't know, man, I'm not getting good vibes. And on the other side, Texas on Saturday looked like a machine. So yeah, I think Texas wins.
00:41:46
Speaker
Yeah, Texas feels like they're back in the glory days, late 90s, early 2000s, man. They have so much talent on that team. They are in the SEC, which is going to be a lot tougher than the big 12 has been in the last couple of years, but I like a lot of what's happening down in Austin. Again, scheduling. Why the fuck is this game on at 11 o'clock in the morning? Like, dude, what are we doing here?
00:42:04
Speaker
This is at the very least a two 30 game. Like that's so that's horrible scheduling. I mean, this Saturday with wrestling on Saturday night, I kind of, I kind of liked the earlier games, but I'm with you. That's not why they looked it up. They don't think that they were looking out and we're like, Oh shit. AWS got a paper view Saturday night. I don't think so.
00:42:24
Speaker
Swerves fighting hangman page in the cage dude. We got freaking out. We got to put this game in the cage Saturday night Yeah, I'm with you man. Nothing like a night game dude under the lights man. So Yeah, all right. Let's get into our uni watch
00:42:58
Speaker
All right, just to recap also though, that means just like last week, we're basically coming down to one game, right? Colorado, Nebraska, we'll decide the picks for this week. That is correct.
00:43:10
Speaker
All right, let's go Shador. All right, got three uniforms you wanna discuss from the top 25 action in college football. So Jordan, I sent you the screenshots.
College Football Uniform Opinions
00:43:20
Speaker
I'm sure you saw them over the weekend, but just for the refresher. So we'll start off with Oregon rocking their gang green alternates. This was green chrome helmet with the green jersey and green pants had the classic ducks logo with that bright yellow. I thought these look sick, man. Definitely not the craziest of all the uniforms Oregon's rolled out over the last 10 years or so, but I thought this was a super clean, tough look.
00:43:39
Speaker
Yeah, it's good. It's definitely good. Anytime you bring back the old duck, it looks really good. And I mean, dude, these guys have like 180 jersey, jersey and pant combinations. Like they're all gonna look clean.
00:43:52
Speaker
Yeah, Oregon's definitely, nobody's benefited more from a Nike sponsorship than Oregon. All right, going over to the Adidas side of the house, man, Kansas, these were clean, dude. I don't know when, I've never seen, I mean, you know more about college sports than me. Has Kansas ever had light blue as part of their color scheme? Not that I can ever remember. And I think they look cool, but dude, it just doesn't look like Kansas at all to me. I love that white helmet. I think that helmet is clean and I wish they'd wear it more.
00:44:22
Speaker
I don't love the jerseys, I'm gonna be honest, just because of who it is. And I just can't, I don't know. I can't wrap my head around it. Dude, here's the, here's my big issue with this. Like Kansas and UNC are such big rivals in college basketball. Like them wearing Carolina blue is just disgusting to me.
00:44:41
Speaker
Yeah, I tell you on that and I'm kind of with you again, man. Aesthetically, straight up, these are clean as hell, but I'm with you. I'm never a fan of teams just rolling out colors, just to roll out colors. You saw that back in, you know, around like the 2006, 2007 era, literally every team was rolling out of black alternate jersey after the Duke Blue Devils did it, right? They were kind of the trendsetters on that in basketball. Then you saw every team just randomly would have black alternates. I do think it looks clean, but yeah, I docked him a couple points for tradition. Yep.
00:45:11
Speaker
Alright, and last dude, I thought these were fire dude, Tennessee Smokey Mountain uniforms dark gray with that bright orange and then the helmets actually got like the Smokey Mountains outlined underneath the you know in black at the bottom with the gray at the top. I thought these were sick dude.
00:45:27
Speaker
These are sick, but here is the one thing that I will say about this. Do not roll these out for a big game. I either want them wearing their orange jerseys or their white jerseys for a big same. Like we don't need no goddamn alternate jersey in a huge game when they're playing BAM or something like dude, if they roll out in gray jerseys for Bama, I'm turning the game off.
00:45:45
Speaker
Yeah, I'm with you. Tennessee has got, they're like the, they're like the Packers of college football, right? Like they just have like the absolute cleanest look with those, those white helmets with the orange jerseys. Uh, so I'm, I'm with you man for the big games. Give me that classic balls look, but I did love these.
00:46:01
Speaker
You know, I saw people, I didn't even realize it did, but I said, you know, I'm here in the state of Tennessee. I'm friends with a ton of all these fans. I get a ton of stuff popping up on, you know, my social media algorithm. This, you know, we docked Kansas points for rock and baby blue out of nowhere. Tennessee actually wore gray jerseys like the first 30 years of their football program. It was gray jerseys with orange, orange letters before they went to the all orange. So, you know, a little bit, a little nod to history also there with the cool design. Interesting.
00:46:27
Speaker
All right, dude, it's time for the main event, man. Do you need like a moment of silence or anything? Or are you ready to go and start picking NFL week one football games? That little Jersey watch was a good pallet climber. Let's get into it.
NFL Game Picks Tracking
00:46:41
Speaker
Let's fucking go. Yeah.
00:46:57
Speaker
Alright, Dave, we're here. You got you got your pen and paper out, man. You ready to tabulate this? We're ready to go, baby. This is week one.
00:47:06
Speaker
All right, so for those that have come on in the off season or it's your first time listening, we pick every game straight up. Jordan will keep score. Who won the championship last year on the picks, Jordan? I seem to have lost my notes on that. Convenient, convenient. But we'll be keeping up with it throughout the year. The way we do it, you win a week. It counts for one point. We don't do total games just because it ends up, you know, run away with it. You win by the week, and each week's worth one point.
00:47:32
Speaker
We'll get it going first, man. Let's freaking go, dude. It feels so good to be discussing actual live NFL games, man. Thursday night, Ravens travel to Kansas City. I mean, honestly, it's a toss up, dude. I really wouldn't be shocked. I wouldn't be shocked to see either team win a close game. I wouldn't be shocked to see either team blow them out, just because it's week one, especially with the way teams have treated the preseason in the last seven, eight years. Week one always has a ton of chaos in the NFL. So be cautious not to throw too much stock.
00:48:01
Speaker
Anything that happens good or bad this week, but I think Kansas City gets to win man right now It's it's unconfirmed if she's gonna be there or not, but Taylor Swift is a heavy betting favorite She's like a six hundred and fifty dollar favorite to be at the season opener I think the vibes are gonna be good and I'm really kind of going back to last year I just don't think the Chiefs are gonna lose a Thursday night opener two years in a row I think they I think they nipped the Ravens this weekend and start off one enough on that uh that quest for the three-peat see
00:48:29
Speaker
I'm the exact opposite, dude. I think they're going to start off slogan this year. And I think that like I told you, I don't think they value regular season anymore. And I think it's going to start with this one.
Game Location Uncertainty
00:48:39
Speaker
And dude, I think Baltimore is going to be pissed off in this game, man. Like I really do. And I think Henry's the difference. I'm going Baltimore. I just, I think they're a better team, man.
00:48:50
Speaker
Derek Henry's always done good against the Chiefs too. They've always struggled against him. So hopefully, hopefully Baltimore's coaching staff has been busting out some Titans film because the Titans, they've been able to beat the Chiefs or they've had really, really hard fought losses against the Chiefs during the Andy Reid era. So hopefully they're cribbing some stuff from that. I would not be shocked one bit to see the Ravens win. Like I said, I literally, I'm going off the Taylor Swift factor and just going off last year. I just don't think they lose Thursday night, two years in a row.
00:49:18
Speaker
It's a coin flip. Vegas has KC as a three point favor right now. You know, three points is basically the standard you get for being a home team. So I think they're thinking this one's going to be, you know, down to the wire as well. Yep, I agree.
00:49:30
Speaker
All right, Friday night, baby, we're down in Brazil. Did we get confirmation? Is this game happening? And isn't it happening in Brazil? Because I've been seeing rumors swirling on social media that there was some smog issues. And then there's also some serious, not to get too political, but Brazil just banned Twitter in their country, dude. So there's some serious free speech oppression going on down there also, man. Do we know, Jordan, is this game still happening in Brazil?
00:49:55
Speaker
I mean, as of right now, it says they're still playing in Brazil on Friday night. Nothing has changed yet. So I mean, they're the Packers advertise it today. The Eagles advertise it today as Brazil. They're getting ready to leave apparently tomorrow. So
00:50:11
Speaker
I say, well, I think it's all those flights land. I think we're, I think it's still up in the air. This game could totally get shifted to, I assume Philly could make it happen because this is supposed to be an Eagles home game. I'm assuming that they could scramble and open the stadium up for a home game on a couple of days notice that they had to, you know, the NFL, I'm sure they already got contingencies for this, but yeah, until those planes leave and head down to Brazil, I think it's still a little bit up in the air. Either way, packers, packers and Eagles down there, assuming it's neutral site, man. I think
00:50:41
Speaker
I think the Packers roll, dude. I do think the Eagles are going to be good this year, but I think the Packers, again, I picked them to go to the Super Bowl and I think they get started on a high note, man. I think they beat the Eagles. Wait, what? I am so confused by everything you just told me, considering I know what your bets are and you picked the Eagles to win.
00:51:03
Speaker
I mean, million dollar bets are different from picks, dude. That's a bet. I'm throwing some money down. We'll get to that next. I still think the Packers are going to win this game. I am so confused right now. That's called an emotional hedge, dude. I'm winning one way or another when this game happens. I'm either beating you on the picks here or I'm winning on million dollar bets. I'm going Eagles. I think the Eagles are going to win this game. I think they got something to prove this year. And I think it starts week one against the Packers.
00:51:33
Speaker
As good as I think the Packers are going to be, I just I don't know, man, I just I feel like the Eagles always start off really well coming out of the gate. They're a good good team right out of the gate. So I'm going to go Eagles. Yeah, I feel like I said, this one could go either way, obviously, because my million dollar bets will get to it. But I got the Eagles winning in a parlay. But I just like that number, dude. I saw that on the the draft Kings advertised parlays that that number stuck out to me and it seemed like a decent bet, man. But I, you know, if I'm picking this game straight up, I think Packers win. All right.
00:52:04
Speaker
All right, let's move on to Sunday. So in the early window, opening up, we got the Cardinals at the bills. I do think the cards are going to be a fun team to watch this year with a healthy Kyler Murray and Marvin Harrison Jr. But I don't think they have, I think they have very little chance of going into Buffalo and getting a win week one. Yeah, we don't even need to talk about this game. I'm going Buffalo as well.
00:52:25
Speaker
Patriots and bangles in CNC. The port, I think the Patriots are very strong chance to be worst team in the league. Bangles role. They're eight and a half point favorites. You could make a 14 and a half point favorites and I'd still be leading bangles. Yeah. I do not have good feelings about this Patriots team. They're starting Jacobi Bursett, which is an instant red flag for me. Like dude, you just drafted a quarterback, start the kid, like
00:52:47
Speaker
See what you got, man. I just, I don't understand these teams. Like I get there. I think the O-line so bad. I think they just don't want him to go out there and get slaughtered, man. You know what I mean? Dude, Brissette got hurt in their last preseason game. Like what the fuck are we doing? To me though, Brissette's like made out of like, you know, unobtainium or whatever it was they were looking for an avatar, dude. I feel like that guy, I felt, you know, it seems like he's been in the league like freaking 18 years at this point. And I feel like I'm always seeing him just standing tall in the pocket, getting fucking rocked and somehow getting back up. So, uh,
00:53:17
Speaker
Yeah, I'm with you man though. It seems like it would make more sense to play Drake may but I think they just know they're gonna be so shitty and like I think there is In general, I think it's good to play a rookie quarterback right away No matter what but I think sometimes if your team is that bad Yeah, you can do some like long-term damage by rolling them out there, you know, yeah, I get what you're saying All right. I think this is the toilet bowl for week one Vikings and Giants in New York
00:53:43
Speaker
I'm going Minnesota, dude. I think the giants are going to be right there with the Patriots for worst team in the NFL. Like this team is going to be bad. The Vikings, despite all the issues they're having, dude, they're actually one and a half point favorites going into, into, into New Jersey for this one. I think the Vikings went to you, man. I w we talked earlier about him. I think Sam Donald's a totally viable NFL quarterback.
NFL Game Predictions & Speculations
00:54:05
Speaker
And I think they're going to be a little bit better than people are expecting at this point with a, you know, JJ McCarthy out for the season. I think the Vikings kicked the giants ass on Sunday.
00:54:13
Speaker
Yeah, I do not think they have a chance of winning that game. Dude, I just, I do not think the Giants are going to be good at all. I think that's going to be like, like I just said, one of the worst teams in the NFL. All right. We got my local team, the new look Titans running face, the new look bears in Chicago.
00:54:31
Speaker
Titans are tough man, you know, very variable is gone. So we don't know what the mindset is going to be a variable was still coach. I'd have a lot more belief in them just because he was just so good at getting his dudes ready to play and I feel like he would know exactly how to kind of get them in the right mindset to target a rookie quarterback starting his first game.
00:54:50
Speaker
But the vibes for the Bears are off the charts. It's at home. Chicago, despite all the horror and pain that they've endured over the last 15, really 40 years, going back to the 80s, they do have a very dedicated fan base. And I know their hype for this season to start. I think that home field advantage and that just wave of momentum for starting with the new quarterback and everything is going to be too much to overcome and the Titans take the L.
00:55:17
Speaker
Yeah. Dude, again, it's still the Bears, man. Titans could totally win, dude. Yeah. If Will Levis is taking a step up this offseason, they added a lot of talent, dude. I think people are sleeping on the Titans a little bit, man. But yeah, it's going to be tough. Yeah, I don't think Chicago's losing their home opener with all the hype they have surrounding them. I think that crowd's going to be in a frenzy. Dude, if Chicago loses this game,
00:55:44
Speaker
Put, put, uh, bears fans on, uh, the watch, you know, watch them talk about, I'm not going to say it, but put them on the watch. Yeah. If they, if they lose and look bad, right? If they, if they go out and lose like 26 to three or something like that, and Caleb Williams taught, you know, if one of Caleb Williams gets hurt first quarter, dude, like, God, could you imagine just the gut punch that would be? No, I cannot imagine that would be really bad.
00:56:11
Speaker
All right. Let's go. I think this was runner up for the, uh, the, if the, if the giants Vikings were the toilet bowl down at the bottom, these guys were up on like the seat, dude. They're like that space in between like the seat and the actual toilet bowl. Uh, that's Panthers and saints in New Orleans. Oh my God. New Orleans I'm picking, but not cause I want to, but I just think the Panthers are going to be awful again.
00:56:35
Speaker
Dude, I've heard a lot. I don't necessarily buy into it all the way, but there's been a ton of positive buzz coming out of Panthers training camp, man, that, you know, I think they're at least going to get moderate or, you know, like league medium average QB play from Bryce Young this year. I think the Panthers going to get the win, man, because I just don't like the Saints, dude. I feel like that team is bad.
00:56:58
Speaker
It seems like the fan base turn against them like it's I don't think anybody down there likes Derek Carr I think they're gonna be booing him the first time that the Saints go three and out or he throws the interception man I think if you ask Saints fans, they would have rather had Jamis as QB instead of Derek Carr I think the Panthers I think this is one of those week one, you know There's always a handful every year where you look at a week one result and you're like what the hell happened? I think the Panthers going on there and win something like 27 to 10 man I think they're gonna beat him dude. I got a funny feeling on this one. I
00:57:28
Speaker
I mean, I would love to see it just because anytime New Orleans is a shitty football team, it's better for everyone else. But dude, I just think Caroline is bad. I just, I just don't think Bryce young is going to take any step forward. I think he's still too tiny, man. I just, it was very ugly last year. I do not. There was not a lot. There was usually even like in a bad rookie season, you get a couple like
00:57:52
Speaker
threads to grasp onto. I mean, dude, I was with I was on the Zach Wilson train for years off some of the stuff we saw his rookie year. It looked very ugly last year for a bright show. Yeah, it's not good.
00:58:04
Speaker
All right, so you are going Saints, though. I am going Saints, yep. Okay, so I think this one, along with that Titans Bears game, is my most anticipated early window game for week one. Steelers and Falcons in Atlanta. We got Art Smith coming into town as the offensive coordinator for the Steelers. We got Russell Wilson and Justin Fields at QB. You know, Russell Wilson starting, but I'm pretty sure we're going to see both QBs on the field at different points.
00:58:28
Speaker
We got the Falcons, um, you know, with Kirk cousins out there, dude, like, I think this kid's got, I think this is going to be an emotionally charged game. I think it's going to be a lot of fun. It seems like, dude, think back over the years, man, Falcons and Steelers have had some straight up classics in the regular season. Um, I think the Falcons get the win in a really, really entertaining game. Yeah. Arthur Smith, rest and piss bozo, uh, Falcons better win this game, dude. I just,
00:58:55
Speaker
I don't know, man. Everything that I'm getting out of training camp and the notes and everything, it's exactly what I expected for this offense the last four years. And now that they actually have a quarterback that knows how to run an offense, it seems like we're going to get it. The Kyle Pitts vibes are really high right now. Drake London, everybody's high on him. They're going to use Bijon the way he's meant to be used.
00:59:21
Speaker
And I think the Falcons defense is going to be good. And I, dude, I think Russell Wilson is awful at this point. I just, did you hear Tomlin announced him as the starter? Like he didn't even sound so underwhelmed. Yeah. He didn't even sound like he was excited to tell these people. And to be quite frank, I wouldn't be excited either. Cause you got Arthur Smith running your offense, first of all, which is already disgusting. And he's going to roll that same offense out there with Russell Wilson and then possibly Justin Fields, like you said, and,
00:59:49
Speaker
Yeah, the Steelers defense is tough as nails, so they'll keep them in the game, but I just feel like Atlanta's defense should be able to hold the Steelers down to almost nothing.
01:00:00
Speaker
All right, we got the battle of Miami coming up near the battle of Florida coming up next. We got Jacksonville traveling down to Miami to face the dolphins. I do think Jacksonville is going to be improved from last season, but the dolphins, I mean, they're, they got Super Bowl aspirations down there, man. And I think they're, I think they are a contender. I think they, you know, they're not one of the favorites, but I do think there's a path to the Super Bowl for Miami this year. And I think they get started in a big way and put it on the Jaguars down in Miami.
01:00:27
Speaker
Yeah, I agree with you. I think Miami wins this game pretty easily. I just, I feel like they're just a better overall team. And I feel like the Jaguars defense is going to be on skates this game. Like Tyreek and Jalen Waddle are going off in this game.
01:00:42
Speaker
All right, Texans Colts, AFC South matchup, dude. I know our buddy Hawk is going to be listening. He's going to get a kick out of this. I've been saying it for weeks, man. Texans are overhyped. I do think they win this division, but I think they get a chin check to open up the season, man. I think the Colts win, dude.
01:01:02
Speaker
Well, I mean, this is all assuming Anthony Richardson actually makes it through a full NFL game, right? True, yeah. That's what I think. I think this is one game he finishes, dude. I think we get a big Anthony Richardson game. I think it's going to be a ton of fool's gold for Colts fans that ultimately just leaves them disappointed. And I think the Texans are going to end up, Hawk, I'm saying this directly to your ear holes right now, dude. I think the Texans are going to end up with a much better season, but I think week one in Indy, I think the Colts find a way to get this done.
01:01:29
Speaker
I'm going Texans, dude, everything that you said about CJ shroud and like the metrics on him and everything. I get it. Got to remember he had tank Dell for seven weeks last year. Now they got Stefan digs in there with tank Dell and Nico Collins. I think that's a beast receiving cord. I think this offense is going to be explosive and they had a Joe mixing it running back. Yeah, dude.
01:01:50
Speaker
Yeah. I mean, the running back last year was a single Terry and they were still doing really good things. So I, I just feel like this team is going to be really good. And I think they get it started in a big way. And Andy, I'm not saying the Colts are going to be bad by any means. I just, I don't think the Colts have a good enough defense to stop Houston's offense. And I think that's going to be the difference in the game.
01:02:11
Speaker
I think the Colts are going to be bad, dude. Anthony Richardson, I think he's only played something like 17 games in college, man. Didn't finish a game last year. Got knocked out with different stuff, all four games he played. So yeah, I know it sounds funny because I'm just shitting on him right now.
01:02:27
Speaker
Again, I think this is going to be one of those week one games that you look back on and, you know, in October and you're like, how the hell did the Texans lose that game? But I do think the Colts get this one, dude. And the other thing too, for the Texans is they added to Neil Hunter to their defense. So they're going to have Willie Anderson and Danielle Hunter coming off the edge at the same time. Best of luck. Like I just, I do not feel like this is going to be a strong moment for Anthony Richardson. Like I think he's going to get hit quite a bit in this game and we'll see if he can make it through.
01:02:58
Speaker
All right, let's go out to the west coast. We got the Raiders and the Chargers in LA. First off, who do you think there's gonna be more fans for in the stands? Does this turn into a Raiders home game?
01:03:08
Speaker
Chargers have no fans, but dude, they got to be hyped for this season, right? Like they got horrible in there. I mean, they finally was hyped though, dude. If you're not, if you're not a Chargers fan, I don't think, I don't think horrible. I mean, I'm sure the Chargers fans are excited, but I don't think anybody's becoming a Chargers fan because of Harbaugh. I'm with you, dude. I think they lost their fan base when they left San Diego. Yeah.
01:03:29
Speaker
probably, yeah, the Raiders will definitely have more people because they just have so many fans everywhere. I mean, dude, you can see a Raiders fan anywhere you go over the United States. Like their fan base is so well known. So I mean, dude, I think it's going to die out, right? It's kind of, you know, our generation gets older because the Raiders have been so shitty the last 20 years, but dude, the Raiders won. They have always had the coolest uniforms with the black and silver. And like, dude, my formative years of like my first football memories when I think back
01:03:58
Speaker
is tech mobile and Bo Jackson, you know, like I'm and I have like the little Bo Jackson, like the little like, you know, play football uniform and helmet set, dude. Like, yeah, I think that they just they have such a national presence with their fan base. I don't think it's going to be enough. I think the Chargers are going to wipe the field with them. But I do think it's going to be interesting to see what the dynamics are in the stands there.
01:04:19
Speaker
Dude, not having Herbert. They're running back Cora's ass. They're receiving Cora's ass. They got Harbaugh, dude. It don't matter. Who's got it better than them?
01:04:29
Speaker
I'm a believer in Harbaugh, man. I don't feel good about the Raiders either as the problem. I don't think that's a good team either. And how often do we see it, man? Teams get enchanted by the little boost you get from the interim head coach and you make them the permanent head coach and it just ends in disaster, dude. I'm going to go Chargers as well. I don't feel great about it. I do not understand how you think the Chargers are going to win the amount of games that they are because their position players are bad.
01:05:00
Speaker
Dude, I think Harbaugh is going to get it done. Look how bad Alex Smith was. I know. Think about this, dude. Think about this. Look how bad Alex Smith was. Or maybe not bad, but he was the low end of mediocre all those years in San Francisco. And then Harbaugh got there, dude. Think about what Herbert's going to do with Harbaugh as his coach, man, if he levels up like that. I just think once the dude gets healthy and gets on the field, he's going to be unstoppable, man.
01:05:25
Speaker
Yeah, I don't know. I think they're going to have a big year, dude. Going back to the move to LA thing, dude, I know logistically it would cost a shitload of money. Who would complain if the charger said, hey, you know what? This just ain't working out for us. We're going back to San Diego next season.
01:05:40
Speaker
I mean, I don't know who'd be upset about it, because there's only 12 fans that go to the game anyway, so what does it matter? And dude, the San Diego Chargers just worked, man. In my mind, it's still San Diego, dude. I have to intentionally think to say the Los Angeles Chargers. Yeah. They're still the San Diego Chargers to me forever.
01:06:03
Speaker
All right, next game, the new look Broncos against the Seahawks, man, this is the Russell Wilson bowl. But you know, now both teams, they got the same X dude. The GMs are going to be joining up the midfield, both talking shit about their X together, dude, nothing better than that. In Seattle, I think the Broncos win, man. Bo Nix is look great this off season. I think the, again, dude, I say this every time cause I hate the guy.
01:06:31
Speaker
I think Sean Payton did a pretty damn good coaching job getting the Broncos to the record that they had last season. And I think they're going to be, and I think they're going to be in the mix for the AFC West, man. Maybe, maybe not for the division, but I think they're going to be in the wild card mix this year. Uh, Bo Nix is a great in the off season and the Seahawks, I feel like this is just the absolute definition of a rebuilding year. I think the Broncos going to get the win in Seattle.
01:06:53
Speaker
See, I don't think the Seahawks are full rebuild. I think their defense is going to be really good. They got the Ravens old defensive coordinator and they had a ton of pieces on that defense last year. I just kind of feel like the game had passed Pete Carroll by, um, dude, I think the Seahawks win just that home field advantage enough. I mean, just playing there is.
01:07:14
Speaker
that they always play well at home and to a rookie quarterback going into that environment. I just, I don't buy it, man. I, I think he struggles in his first game and I think the Seahawks win. I'm not going to say it's going to be a convincing win, but I think they win.
01:07:29
Speaker
Vegas actually has Seattle as a six-point favorite. That seemed a little high to me. Dude, I think people are putting way too much stock into preseason, man. I think playing against second and third stringers, I think it really propped Bo Nix up. I think he's going to be good, but I don't think he's near as good as what the preseason showed. I think he's going to struggle against this team.
01:07:50
Speaker
All right. Well, hey, it's always good when we have games where we go separate. We definitely had some weeks last year where we had damn near every pick the same. All right. This is this should be a good one, man. The Cowboys heading into the Cleveland Browns, dude. This is going to be the after the premier game in the afternoon window. Only two. Excuse me. Now we got four. My bad. We do have four, three o'clock games. Cowboys. I think the Cowboys roll, dude. I did. I just.
01:08:15
Speaker
I'm going to be hard pressed to pick the Sean Watson to get a victory. If I know he's starting a quarterback, I feel like if Jamis was starting for the Browns, I might pick the Browns. I think Dak and the Cowboys do enough to get the win. Cleveland is two and a half point favorite. They're at home. You know, that defense is going to be nasty, but I still think the Cowboys find a way to get it done.
01:08:31
Speaker
Am I the only one a tad concerned about the Cowboys offense? Like they lost so much and were CD lambs banged up, man. Yeah. It didn't even just that it's more of the fact that CD lamb hasn't built the team all off season until last week. I think he's going to be completely fine. I still think Dak's going to play good, but Pollard went to the Titans. Their receiving core is depleted.
01:08:55
Speaker
I just, I don't, I have a weird feeling about this team and they brought back the corpse of Zeke and then they signed fucking Dalvin Cook last week. I'm like, what is this 2020? Like what am I watching? I remember cause I wasn't keeping super close tabs on the Cowboys this off season and like the first time I played up Madden. So me and my buddy James when we played, we just do random teams and I got the Cowboys
01:09:17
Speaker
And, uh, like the first time I had a run and play, I saw they handed out the Elliott and I was like, Oh, that's funny. I'm thinking like the Cowboys drafted some rookie of the last name Elliott. Then I see on the, on like the menu screen, it pops up Ezekiel Elliott running back. I was like, Holy shit. They brought this dude back. And then they got Dalvin cook. Like I said, they got the, they got the 2019 all pro running back backfield.
01:09:36
Speaker
That's not a good thing, dude. That's not a good thing at all. I don't know what they're doing, man. Their defense is going to be really good, but their bland is hurt. I think they said four or six weeks. He's out for four or six weeks. They got digs. They're susceptible to the big play, but dude, I'm with you.
01:09:57
Speaker
I just, I do not get good vibes with Watson being the quarterback of the Browns. I think their defense is going to be elite again, but I think Dallas just makes a little bit more plays in the end and, and wins a close game. I don't think it's going to be a blowout by any means. I think it'll be close, but
01:10:13
Speaker
Yeah, I do not trust Watson, dude. He, everybody just keeps saying like, Oh, what happens if he reverts back? I mean, we're five, almost five years removed from the last time he was Deshaun Watson. Like I, I just don't think it's coming back, man. I think put Jamis in there, bro. I know they're talking about trading Jamis, man. Like, no, dude, you need Jamis, man. Between Deshaun Watson's just vibes and his injury history also do like,
01:10:38
Speaker
And it isn't just the acts apps like the the quality of the play on the field dude's been stayed banged up for years Also, man, like I think that's gonna go down as one of the all-time worst personnel moves in all the sports that trade and the Contract that that Browns gave that guy. I'm not gonna lie to you I thank God every day that the Falcons did not get that tree. They dodged a bullet dude. I
01:10:59
Speaker
that would have been like a franchise suicide not saying the Falcons have like some great franchise but I think that would have just been because they were in worse shape roster wise than the Browns even you know I mean like the Browns had a damn pretty damn well loaded roster so they were able to absorb that hit and I mean they were a competent playoff team last season but
01:11:20
Speaker
Yeah, dude, the Falcons definitely dodged a bullet, not something. Yeah, they wouldn't have got Drake London or Bijon. So like imagine that team with- Kirk Cousins. Yeah. Imagine that team without Bijon and Drake London with Watson as the quarterback. It would have been ugly. Yeah. Can I give you a Cowboys hot take, man? What? I think the starting quarterback, week one, 2025, Shador Sanders. Tell me Jerry Jones would not do that. That wouldn't make Jerry Jones move.
01:11:48
Speaker
I mean, I don't necessarily know if it's the worst move, dude. If you got a coordinator and coach that can continue to develop should work because there's definitely some talent there, right? He's got some talent, dude. He can throw that football, but he's got some pretty deep flaws as well. But Dax do a new contract, dude. I can see them kind of cheaping out. We saw how much of a pain in the ass it was for CLM getting a new deal, man.
01:12:09
Speaker
Oh, I feel like I feel like Dak's the definition of that guy. Like, dude, do we go all in with him? I mean, at that point, you're going to have basically a decade of what you've seen him do. And he's never gotten you pass the second round to the playoffs. Oh, I don't think Dakary signs there. I think Dak is the starting quarterback of the Raiders next year. I think they're going to throw a bag at him and he's going to end up there and it makes sense for both of them.
01:12:29
Speaker
I don't think Shador is going to fall far enough for the dude. Some team is going to just end up taking a chance on like the Giants or something like that is going to take a chance just because if it pays off, you know, you're making money because dude, for everything I'll say about Shador Sanders, he does put eyes on on him. Like he's always got eyes on him and he's always getting talked about. I can easily see that being a Giants move just to kind of try to distance himself from Daniel Jones. But
01:12:55
Speaker
I think the last draft board I saw had him projected as the number three pick in the draft next year. I see him falling from that, dude. I see him falling over the course of this season. I do think there's some real talent there, man. I think the dude can play, but he needs some development from some real coaching, which I'm not sure if he's getting it at Colorado right now.
01:13:13
Speaker
Well, yeah. And whoever drafts him is going to just have to tell Dion, Hey, keep your mouth shut. You are not the coach of this team. That's the thing I worry about Shador with. Like, dude, what happens when he actually gets a coach that's like critical on him and when he makes these guys down on the silent, like, Hey man, you're the best quarterback ever. Don't even let anyone tell you different.
01:13:34
Speaker
You're going to be the next Tom Brady. Like that's what his dad's I mean, dude, his dad was his coach in high school and has been his coach at both stops in college. So, yeah, I mean, who knows, dude? Maybe Jerry Jones just puts D on. I mean, wouldn't wouldn't be on the Jerry Jones perfect head coach for the Cowboys? He would not. He would not because he's not a puppet. Jerry Jones has to be in control of whoever the coach is. That's why they kept McCarthy. Like I do not like do the Cowboys.
01:14:01
Speaker
If they hired Dion, like I have a buddy who's a huge, I guarantee that would be the last straw for him. And he would stop like, dude, bringing that circus to the NFL, it would be a whole nother level of, Oh God.
01:14:16
Speaker
I mean, it's the wildest timeline for sure. I think, I feel like there's a greater than 0% chance it happens, dude, just from everything I've seen watching the Cowboys over the last 20 years, man. I don't think, I don't think it's out completely outside the realm of possibility. Cause do you know McCarthy's probably gone. If they have a shit season, Dak's gone. You know, why not? Bring Dion home.
01:14:36
Speaker
Everybody keeps talking about Bella check. I'm like, dude, Bella check. Ain't gonna listen to Jerry Jones. I can tell you that right now. That is the job. Bella. If I'm Bella check, the Niners is the job I have my eye on, dude. If they flame out in the playoffs again, like I'm calling up, you know, their owners, dude, I'm calling up John Lynch saying, Hey, do whatever salary cap magic you got to do to keep this roster together. One more season. I'm coming in. We're going to get a freaking ring.
01:14:59
Speaker
Yeah, the Cowboys like people were talking about that all offseason. I'm like, dude, Belichick would literally tell Jerry Jones to go fuck himself. There is no way that would work. Belichick does not care who your owner is.
01:15:13
Speaker
I mean, it would be kind of poetic because, you know, Parcells was the same way. I mean, Parcells is Belichick's mentor and he ended up going there. But I agree, dude, I feel like I feel like Parcells is much of a hard ass as he was. He was still like, at least for everything we've seen, he was still way more sociable and like, you know, could be agreeable than then Belichick is. Yeah, I mean, they said at the end of Belichick's coaching career with the Patriots, him and Robert Kraft were basically not even talking anymore. Like I just.
01:15:40
Speaker
I don't see how that would ever work with Jerry Jones. They'd be in the draft room and I think Belichick would just deck Jerry Jones. That would be the greatest TV ever. All right, let's go to the real crapper we have in the late window. We got the Washington Commanders with Jayden Daniels heading down to Tampa to play the Bucks.
01:16:00
Speaker
I think the Bucks get it done, man. I've not loved what I've seen from Washington. I do like Dan Quinn. I'm rooting for him to be successful in his second stint as a head coach. I don't think either one of these teams are going to cover themselves in glory this year, but I think the Bucks do enough to get it done and get the win. I agree.
01:16:18
Speaker
I don't think the commanders are going to win a ton of games and I definitely don't think they're going to win Jayden Daniels first game against a good defense. So yeah, I mean, I'm going bucks, but I'm not like saying the bucks are going to be some great team this year.
01:16:32
Speaker
All right, our Sunday night game, week one, we got the Rams heading against the Lions in a rematch of a really, really entertaining playoff game from last year. Dude, did you know that Matt Stafford used to play for the Lions and Jared Goff used to play for the Rams? I had no idea. Thanks for breaking that down for me.
01:16:49
Speaker
I'm just saying I feel like I've been bashed over the head with that fact and the couple little like you know Preseason height videos I've seen for this game already I think it's gonna be a damn good game with the Lions get the win man at home Sunday night I think the Lions get it done But I do think this is it's got potential to end up being the game of the week for week one
01:17:06
Speaker
I agree. I think Detroit wins as well. I do think the Rams are going to be better than people are giving them credit for. Yeah, definitely. Dude, I don't know how people are just saying that the Niners are going to run away with that division. I think the Rams are a damn good team, bro.
01:17:21
Speaker
Dude, they're, they're the best coach team in the NFL. I don't even think that's debatable. Like look at that 2022 season when they were decimated by injuries, dude, they were winning games. They shouldn't. And they were given teams, damn tough games whenever, uh, you know, when they, they should have been freaking losing easy. I mean, they got, uh, you know, they got Denver's coach fire that year. They hung a 50 burger. I didn't wear that season to end up, you know, showing him the door, dude, like, yeah, Sean McVay's the freaking man. He's worth every penny they're paying him.
01:17:46
Speaker
Their defense is going to be an issue. Like their defenses was already not great last year and they lost their best player, possibly the best one of the best defensive players ever in Aaron Donald. Um, but I just feel like their offense is going to be so good. Kyrian Williams is, is going to have a great year. And then dude, having Puca and Cooper cup, I just, I don't know how this team is not like a playoff team at this point.
01:18:13
Speaker
Dude, something to keep an eye on because he still has stuff left in the tank. If the Rams are in the mix, man, if I'm Sean McVeigh, dude, come around Halloween time. I'm calling up AD. Hey, man. What do you think, dude? Maybe come back for this playoff run. I don't think that's out of the question. We're going to make a comeback because he definitely has, like I said, a ton of gas left in the tank. Yeah, I can see that as well.
01:18:35
Speaker
I feel like this team is going to be good, and so many people are just shitting on him. I don't get it. Like, am I missing something with this team? Like, their offense is going to put up a shit ton of points this year. I think people are because, you know, Stafford was looking a little shaky there in 2022 when he got hurt. I think people are are kind of, you know, underestimating how or, you know, undervaluing how good he still was all the way through the season last year.
01:19:02
Speaker
And like you said, how good of a coach McVeigh is, man. Yeah. I'm right there with you, dude. I think I wouldn't be, I mean, I'd be a little bit surprised. I definitely would not be shocked if there, you know, when it's all said and done, the Rams win that division.
NFL Season Excitement
01:19:12
Speaker
Yeah, I agree. That's, I mean, that's the point I was trying to make is like, everybody's saying San Francisco is going to run away with it. I don't see it, man. I think the Rams are all, as long as McVeigh's coach, the Rams are going to be a good, a good team. They're, they're never going to be a team that you're looking forward to playing.
01:19:26
Speaker
I mean, what did cup play last year, like six to eight games, something like that. And they still were there at the end of the season. Like I just, I find it hard to believe that Puca and cup being on that offense, there are somehow not going to be an explosive offense. Like that team's going to be good. All right. Let's go to Monday night. We just got one game this year. Are you a fan of having the Friday night game or would you rather have the Monday double header? No.
01:19:50
Speaker
I like this. I think this is going to be fun, dude, having a Thursday and a Friday night game to open the season is going to be fun thing. And also it always seems like we get a trash Monday night game for one of the two games. So a hundred percent. I'd much rather some NFC West or AFC West game. I mean,
01:20:07
Speaker
Seriously, look at the night games this weekend. You got Chiefs, Baltimore to open on Thursday. You got Philly and Green Bay. And then Sunday night you got Detroit and LA. And then fucking Monday night we get Jets in San Francisco. Like what more could you want? If you're Aaron Rodgers, are you at all sketchy about starting the season on Monday night once again? Hopefully he doesn't fucking try to carry the American flag out again. Like that would probably be a poor choice this year.
01:20:37
Speaker
Oh my God, dude. If that happens again, he has to just retire on the field. Just leave your cleats in the middle of the field and sweep them off. Cover them in the flag and just carry them off the field, dude. Yeah, there is. I think the Niners stomp them, dude. I'm out on Aaron Rodgers. I respect everything he's done on the field. Never been the biggest Aaron Rodgers fan, just personally, man.
01:21:03
Speaker
I think he's more washed than people are thinking, dude. I think the Niners go out and beat him up, man.
01:21:09
Speaker
I think the Niners win. I still think it's a good game though, but yeah, cross country travel on Monday night for the first week. I just, yeah, I think the jets defense will keep them in this game, but I think the Niners are just a better team. I do. I am a little bit nervous about the Niners walk into the season. McCaffrey's already hurt and I don't think they're making a big enough deal about it because it's the same injury he had at the end of last year. It's that same calf.
01:21:36
Speaker
That's not good, dude. Like when your calfs as a running back are starting to cause you problems, that is not good. And I'm sorry, man. I've said it a million times. That is the straw that stirs the drink for that offense. They will lose McCaffrey. They are fucked. Yeah. I mean, that team has looked like a world beater since that trade.
01:21:56
Speaker
They were a scrappy team that found a way to just keep getting doves before he got there. They were not explosive until he got there, though. Yeah. They are going to be in deep shit if he ever gets hurt.
01:22:09
Speaker
All right. That's it for our week one slate, man.
Million Dollar Bets Segment
01:22:11
Speaker
How'd that feel going through a whole, a whole slew of NFL games? This is like, I didn't say at the beginning, but this is just my favorite time of year. I love Springs eternal. Like you got football, like we're near in the end of summer and I love summer, but I've always been a big fall. Like fall is always my season. Yeah. Spooky season. You got football and the weather's going to get much cooler. Like these 70 degree days. This is like what I thrive in.
01:22:39
Speaker
People start complaining once the weather gets under 80 because they can't swim and stuff. I'm like, fuck swimming. Who gives a shit about swimming? Dude, I'm trying to be outside and not sweat my balls off. I want to watch football on the back porch and not be dying out there and just feel like I'm sweating every beer I drink right out. This is the greatest time of year. All right. Let's go to our first round of million dollar bets.
01:23:19
Speaker
All right, so we're going next level on Million Dollar Bets. We're gonna allow, I think last year for the most part, we were really just doing like money line and against the spread stuff, right? We did some parlays. We did some parlays with touchdowns and stuff, but we didn't dip our toes too deep in the waters. I felt like we were both kinda eerie about how we were doing this, and it was our first year of the show. It's okay to advance in your careers in the second year. Just to be clear though, I won on Million Dollar Bets too, right?
01:23:48
Speaker
I think it was close, but yes, you did win. All right, let's go dude. All right, so I'll go first, man. My first bet, and we're going to go down to the dollar. I'm getting, I'm setting up a spreadsheet. So we'll give you guys down to the individual dollar this year on the standings. I'm rolling out 50,000 for this first week, man. First off, dude, again, you guys know, I call this the emotional hedge, dude. I'm rooting for the Titans, but I picked the bears to cover.
01:24:12
Speaker
a four point spread and I'm putting 40,000 on it. So I'm betting 40,000 to win 75,000 on the bears to cover the spread against the Titans. Yeah, it's, uh, yeah, that's, that's a pretty safe bet, I think. But again, it's fucking bears. Never know. We don't know if there's, if they keep the variable toughness, I think, uh, yeah, they got a good chance of covering that spread.
01:24:37
Speaker
Okay. My first bet. I'm going to do a touchdown portal way. I'm going to do Derek Henry, Tyree kill, and Justin Jefferson to all score touchdown. I'm going to put 50,000 on that and that would pay out $394,930. Bro, you might have it wrecked. You're going to wreck for the whole season, dude. Talk about coming in hot, dude. If you win that bet, I'm going to be in an uphill battle for the next 18 weeks, man.
01:25:05
Speaker
I felt I like it. I mean, I would take, I would take any of those three bets individually, man. So yeah, I mean, I agree with it.
01:25:13
Speaker
Yeah, I felt. Which one are you least confident on? I'm least confident in Justin Jefferson. That is definitely least confident. But the reason I did it is because the Giants defense is so ass. And I mean, you just said you think Justin Jefferson is going to go for 2,000 yards. So I just, I think. See him having a like a Julio style season though, like 130 catches for like 2,100 yards.
01:25:36
Speaker
I'm thinking like seven touchdowns, dude. You know what I mean? As long as he gets one of them in week one, that's all that matters. Derek Henry's minus 120, Tyree Kale's minus 120, and Justin Jefferson's plus 135 for the touchdown on. So he's definitely the short stick in that one, man. So I'm rooting for you just because I like seeing chaos prevail.
01:25:57
Speaker
That's a, that's a big bet for week one, man. My second bet. I got a, this one's a four pick parlay spread across two games. This is the one Jordan's giving me shit about on the picks. Like I said, I'm covering all my bets, dude. I'm going to win one way or another on this Packers and Eagles games. I think the Packers went on our, on our, our picks, but I'm betting for the Eagles to cover a two and a half point spread. AJ Brown touchdown.
01:26:19
Speaker
Chiefs covering a three point spread and Travis Kelsey touchdown. So I'm throwing down 10,000 on this one and it'll pay out $36,000. You are incorrect. It'll pay out 135,400. I was looking at the wrong one. Yeah, that was that one. We're at a setup for the individual ones. So what will it pay out? 135,420.
Ideal NFL Sunday Routines
01:26:40
Speaker
Okay. My second one, I'm just going to do a money line parlay. I think these are all pretty safe. Honestly. I'm going dolphins money line. I'm going Vikings money line and I'm going Falcons money line. The one I'm least are the most concerned with is obviously the Vikings, but I do think the Falcons when they have to find a way to win that game. So, and if they're going to let me down, at least let me down week one. Let's not do this in week 17.
01:27:05
Speaker
I'm doing twenty thousand and it would pay out ninety eight thousand three hundred and ten dollars and thirty five cents So overall you're throwing down seventy thousand week one. Is that right? Yep
01:27:16
Speaker
All right, I'm going down 50,000. So I have it all up in a spreadsheet, man. Maybe I'll throw up a link to a mgirl link for some screenshots in the show notes, man. All right, we got two questions for listener mail this week, but they're two good ones, man. So we'll start off first from our buddy, Sam Rosenthal. What is your ideal Sunday football plan if you don't have any sort of family arrangements or obligations?
01:27:41
Speaker
Well, I don't have family obligations on Sundays because it's NFL season. People know if you're going to schedule a show with me, you got eight other months and the last four of the year aren't it? My ideal Sunday, get up, watch a little ESPN countdown or Fox countdown. I watch a little bit of fantasy football now on ESPN every morning just to kind of
01:28:03
Speaker
make sure I'm in tune with everything for my lineups and then usually crack that first beer about 10 30 about an hour and a half for the first game and I don't move off the couch for six hours and then the three o'clock slate ends. We make some dinner and then 7 30 we're right back on the couch again.
01:28:24
Speaker
See, I like the game, dude. I'm really big on playing either. Thank God now I can play, you know, college football. But I'm playing either some college football or some Madden right up until kickoff time at noon. Got the beers on ice. And then, you know, right when it's kickoff time, I'm rolling out to the back porch, posting up out there. Ideally, it's sunny, but not hot outside. And I'm just chilling out cracking cold ones and watching football.
01:29:06
Speaker
So I have one of those, but it's just such a fucking pain in the ass to put on our, you know, pinching your fingers and shit on it. I just don't want those things. Those things are like the first time you use those things, they're good. But the moment they get the slightest bit of corrosion going, it becomes a safety hazard. I've had bloody fingertips offsetting those things up plenty of times over the years. And we have a big ass umbrella, but like
01:29:13
Speaker
all day long in texting Jordan.
01:29:26
Speaker
It just seems like the fucking wind is always blowing in Nebraska. I don't know what happened I feel like I live in the windy city now, but it's just it's insane So yeah, I don't have the same luxury as you just be able to sit out on the deck and watch Football all day. So yeah, it's gonna be exciting though I can't wait and I would never I would never watch a Falcons game outside because my neighbors would probably all move I
01:29:49
Speaker
Yeah, if you if you got the ability or the setup to do it watching outside just dude It takes the vibes away because when you're in the house You're always gonna be thinking like that something I need to straighten up or something I need to go do when you're outside You're just chilling out watching the game in But yeah, good question Sam and then Sheena had a really good one, man I'll answer first cuz I'm hitting you with this one blind. I had some time to think about it She said what would ever make you give up on the NFL to me, man. It would take a lot I think
01:30:17
Speaker
I'm in general, I'm a fan of the stuff that they've done over the last 13, 14 years to make the game safer for players. I feel like if they take it maybe three steps further than they already have, I would tap out on it. You still need to have a little bit of violence. A little bit of violence is just
01:30:36
Speaker
I feel like it's what makes football football. I feel like if they got to a point where they basically totally eliminated the violent aspects out of the game, I'd probably tap out and find something else to do with my time.
01:30:49
Speaker
Yeah, I think I'm with you. Like it, unless it goes to like flag football or two hand touch, I don't think I'm going anywhere. Um, just because I mean, dude, I'm so invested in the NFL at this point. It's the best man. I just, the best run league, dude, the way they, the way they do it with the, it's the only one out of our big ones where all 30 teams are on an equal playing field, man. Not to mention you got fantasy into it. Like if you like a team like dude,
01:31:16
Speaker
And just being 17 games a season tier, dude. It makes every single game an event, right? You're not taking nights off. In the NBA, you'll have the whole team basically take a night off. Same thing in baseball, man. It's not the same. Football, every single game is such a big deal.
01:31:32
Speaker
Not to mention, I mean, dude, we've this has been well noted me and Seth have talked about this horror day many times like, if I was ever going to give up on the NFL, it would have been after that Super Bowl. And I never even considered not watching the NFL. I considered not watching the Falcons anymore. But
01:31:50
Speaker
Dude, the NFL is just such a great league. And I mean, it's just, dude, it's the perfect way to spend a Sunday in the fall, man. Like there, there's nothing better than watching NFL football on Sunday. It's the sport that's the easiest to follow. Cause you have the play, right? This little burst of excitement. And then you got, you know, 30, 45 seconds to set and think about what happened and what's coming next. It's just, it's, it's for just a ton of reasons. Football is the number one sport to watch on TV.
01:32:18
Speaker
You know, my other thing is too, and I've thought about this numerous times. Like if I was ever not a Falcons fan anymore, I would probably just pick players and foul players. Yeah. I think it's easier in the NFL than anywhere else. I mean, assuming nobody gets injured, obviously, I understand that, but like, here's my issue with the NBA. Like you just said, teams take nights off. When you pay as much money as you pay to go to a professional sporting event, like you expect to see the good players play.
01:32:45
Speaker
NFL players ain't taking weeks off. Like, dude, you go to an NBA game, you're open to see LeBron. They could rest him. You won't even know till the day of the game, like tip off. I mean, like I said, yeah, there's catastrophic injuries in every sport. So like, obviously that could happen, but you know, the NFL is going to give you the best show they can when you put your money on the table. Like they're not letting players just randomly rest in a week three game. Like
01:33:10
Speaker
you're going to see the entire team play in a week three game. It's just, I don't know, man. NFL is just, it's the best. There's just, there's nothing you can say about it. It wins the ranking in everything like viewership, all that stuff. It's the most valuable media commodity in the world.
01:33:28
Speaker
Clearly, I mean, look how much money DirecTV tried to pay to keep Sunday Ticket on DirecTV and still got outbid by YouTube. Have you seen this fucking thing about being able to get Sunday Ticket through Apple now and it's like $1,000 or something? Have you seen this?
01:33:47
Speaker
God damn. No, dude. Okay. I don't have an Apple. You can get season tickets for some teams for a little bit more than that. Do this live on air. Log into your Apple play store and search Sunday ticket and just tell me how much it says it is. Cause like I heard it was a ridiculous amount. Like on a YouTube it's four 50 for the year, but I heard it's like a thousand or 1200 bucks on Apple. All right. One second. I'm logging on right now.
01:34:12
Speaker
You guys know I'm in Hollernet, dude, so it'll take us really, really serious. Let's let's banter. Jordan, what's your all time favorite Falcons uniform? Oh, look at this up.
01:34:21
Speaker
Uh, obviously the, it's gotta be the black, uh, Jersey with the, the black helmet, the old Falcons logo and Mike Vic, um, took over Dion. Like those, those jerseys were so clean to me. Um, I do love the red helmet though. The red helmet is really clean. Those uniforms just looked so old though at that time when they finally did switch to the, the newer dirty bird logo. So yeah, I'd go with that for the Falcons one.
01:34:48
Speaker
I've always been partial to those red jerseys from the Matt Ryan years. I thought it was a super clean look. I mean, I literally have like 10 of those jerseys in my closet. So I liked them obviously, too. So right now on the app store, if I want to buy Sunday ticket, I could tap my phone in a couple of places and have it locked up. It'll cost me six hundred seventy nine dollars and ninety nine cents. OK, so it's not as bad as I thought, but that's still pretty, still pretty bad.
01:35:13
Speaker
I mean, that's not good. That's $250 more than you pay on YouTube TV. That's insane. Yeah. I wonder what, what's, do you know what's behind that inflated costume? No, I have no idea. I just, I'm guessing the NFL is like, Hey, we, we agreed to a deal with YouTube TV. If you want to do this year, we're going to have to charge you more. So I'm guessing that's why they had inflate the price.
01:35:36
Speaker
I mean, my thing, dude, I get the Titans games all now because they're on local, dude. And then I do Red Zone, dude. I love Red Zone, man. I think Red Zone is one of the greatest products of the last 20 years in sports, man. It's it's freaking awesome, dude. That's and being like not that I'm not a diehard Titans fans. I'm really just I'm a fan of the NFL in general. I love just watching Red Zone.
01:35:56
Speaker
Yeah. Yeah. I mean, it is one of the coolest things. And they got Scott Hanson who just, he loves doing it and listening to his like routine every morning is fucking hilarious. So yeah, man, it's awesome. Like we said, just the NFL is the greatest and yeah, I'm never going to stop watching.
Expanded College Playoffs Anticipation
01:36:14
Speaker
That doesn't either. There's no way that they'll stop watching. They'll never go to two hand touch or flag football. If they did that, they know how much money they'd be losing. I mean, dude, family, friends, football, and wrestling. That's like my four core values, dude. I'll never give up any of those things, man. That's the things I'm living for, dude. So yeah, I'm right there with you, man.
01:36:37
Speaker
It's just, it's the best, man. And I did, I got to give a thanks to Jordan, dude. I think it's a combination of Jordan and EA Sports bringing back the college football video game, dude. I'm so loving being back in college football because now I got a whole other day of football to enjoy.
01:36:51
Speaker
I don't know how you did no college football as long as you did, man. Well, I told you, dude, one, the game's going away, killed it for me, right? That's really when I got out of it. And then just the setup for the postseason, dude. The 14 playoff was a step in the right direction, but I still left so much to be desired. But, dude, with the 12-team playoff, I just think it's awesome, man, and it's so much fun being back into it.
01:37:13
Speaker
Those December playoff games are going to be fucking incredible, man. I can't wait. That whole month, just leading up to Christmas, you got NFL or college football playoff games. The weekend before Christmas is round two of the college football playoffs. Dude, what a treat. Imagine trying to work at any point during December.
01:37:36
Speaker
Dude, it is going to hit like freaking crack. The first time like somebody like Coastal Carolina goes on a run and like, you know, makes it to the final four. Do you think about that man? Like how just unfathomable that would have been a couple of years ago, dude.
01:37:51
Speaker
I don't know when it's going to happen because it's definitely a lot tougher to do something like that in football than it is in basketball. But at some point we're going to get, you know, whether it's a Coastal Carolina or maybe somebody bigger and more established like a BYU or something, dude. But the first time we see a team actually know shit, make like a Cinderella run through the college football playoffs, like, oh my God, dude.

Well, not to mention, too, one of those teams is going to end up going to somebody's home field because the first round is on those teams home field. So so I'm saying, imagine somebody like that stone in someone on their home field. Imagine somebody going because these will be the first games that are ever played in these team stadiums in December. I mean.

we don't get December football at home stadium. So like, just imagine being an Ohio state fan, forking out all this money to go to the game and then you get beat by Texas state or something like that. Dude, that would be the most depressing game as a fan. Oh my God. Like that's

Oh, I can't wait for it to happen because we are, we are where it should have been the whole time now. The 12 team playoff is perfect because I feel like if you do anything more than that, you're going to end up getting teams that don't belong in there. 12 is the absolute or the first round is just a joke. Yeah. I like the first. I like that too. Cause then, you know, 16 would be cool, but I like the 12 cause then you're given a, you know, you're given a bonus to the top 14 is in a regular season, right? They get that first round by, which is so valuable.

Yeah, dude, and there's gonna be upsets in that first round. There's no way there's not, because those are gonna be damn good teams that are playing each other five through 12. Those are gonna be some damn good games.

Jordan has some closing thoughts and we'll get out of here. Enjoy your week this week. I hope all your teams lose other than the Falcons. I hope everybody else loses.
