Everything Action Commentary: Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie (1995)

For the latest Everything Action Commentary, Zach and Chris call the Ninjazords and watch 1995's Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie, which came out 30 years ago this month.
Released between the second and third season of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, the movie finds Tommy (Jason David Frank), Kimberly (Amy Jo Johnson), Billy (David Yost), Adam (Johnny Young Bosch), Rocky (Steve Cardenas) and Aisha (Karan Ashley) up against their most dangerous foe yet, Ivan Ooze (Paul Freeman). Released after 6,000 years trapped beneath Angel Grove, Ooze destroys the command center and Zordon's (Nicholas Bell) containment field, causing him to slowly die. Without any powers, the Rangers have to make a treacherous journey to the planet Phaedos, where they seek to gain the "Great Power" and save the galaxy. While watching the movie, Zach and Chris discuss how easy skydiving seems to be, how many of the side characters are blatantly Australian, how Ivan can reference things that happened while he was trapped, the terrible CGI, who Mordant is, one-time use powers and weapons, and more. Unfortunately, the movie is not currently streaming, available to rent, or purchase anywhere. I had the Sega Genesis beat-em-up that was different. It was, like, a completely different engine.

I think it did. and then i think I think they just kind of used a lot of the... movie toys, they kind of rebranded it as, like, just normal Power Rangers, because obviously, season three introduced all the ninja stuff on its own, separate from the movie.

But yeah, I think that's like an interesting concept they could have had in a movie. Really make it more dramatic. It's like a safe plot. um It does detour when they go on ah another planet, and then it's just I don't know, like a jungle survival movie?

Yeah, just a bunch of whatever, whatever. It feels like random pieces of like other movies they had, like people came up with. Like, oh, a giant dinosaur skeleton. Like pig monsters, stone pig monsters. I don't know.

like whatever, whatever costume companies in Australia, they like whatever costumes they had. It's like, we got these pig guys. yeah we got these We got these bird guys. I feel that's a lot of what holds the movie back is like a their budget.

Yeah, ah the nostalgia definitely like wears out a little bit. um movie holds up only for us, but like if I introduce someone else, like they are totally not going to get what makes it special.
