When four friends (Jennifer Love Hewitt, Freddie Prinze Jr., Sarah Michelle Gellar, and Ryan Phillippe) hit someone with their car after a night of partying on July 4th, they decide to dump the body in the ocean and never discuss it again.  One year later, the quartet starts getting threatening letters, and bodies start piling up as someone is aware of their actions and looking for revenge.  Zach and Chris discuss how Ryan Phillippe is a psychopath from the start, how the killer is more interested in pranks than killing for a large portion of the movie, the bizarre topography of Southport, how the iconic "What are you waiting for?!?!" scene was directed by a kid who won a contest, and more.

I Know What You Did Last Summer (1997)

This week on the Everything Actioncast, Zach and Chris get seduced by 1995's Species, which came out 30 years ago this week.

When SETI receives a transmission from an alien race with instructions for how to create a human/alien hybrid, an experiment is conducted that creates "Sil" (Natasha Henstridge), who escapes the lab she's contained in and disappears into Los Angeles.  The head of the experiment, Xavier Fitch (Ben Kingsley), assembles a team to hunt her down and destroy her before she can mate and start spreading more alien lifeforms.  Zach and Chris discuss the ridiculously talented cast, the great practical effects and terrible CGI, how easily Sil navigates LA since she looks like a supermodel, Forest Whitaker's "empath" abilities, and more.

Species (1995)

This week on the Everything Actioncast, Zach and Chris head to Isla Sorna and discuss the 2001 film Jurassic Park III.  The first movie in the series not to be based on a Michael Crichton novel and not directed by Steven Spielberg, with Joe Johnston stepping behind the camera and bringing back Sam Neill's Alan Grant.  Needing cash to keep his fossil dig going, Grant reluctantly agrees to accompany Paul Kirby (William H. Macy) and his wife, Amanda (Téa Leoni), to be their guide on a flight over Isla Sorna.  Grant's research assistant Billy Brennan (Alessandro Nivola) comes along as well but Grant is horrified when the plane lands on the island.  Quickly attacked by a Spinosaurus, the aircraft is destroyed, and the group is stranded.  The Kirbys reveal the real reason they are there is to find their son Eric (Trevor Morgan), who has been missing for eight weeks on the island.  Zach and Chris discuss Chekhov's raptor larynx, how different the island looks compared to The Lost World, the utterly useless trio of mercenaries, Téa Leoni's similarities to Willie Scott, the insane tie-in books, and more.

Jurassic Park III (2001)

This week on the Everything Actioncast, Zach and Chris revisit M3GAN's original rampage from 2022 as she returns to theaters this weekend in M3GAN 2.0.

One of the biggest recent hits for Blumhouse, M3GAN stars Allison Williams as Gemma, a robotics engineer and toy designer who gains custody of her niece, Cady (Violet McGraw), after Cady's parents are killed in a car crash.  Unprepared for parenting, Gemma decides to use her latest creation, a highly advanced AI doll named M3GAN (Amie Donald/Jenna Davis), to try to help Cady.  While great at first, M3GAN begins to extend her directive to protect Cady from harm into killing anything she deems a threat.  Zach and Chris discuss why you would immediately give M3GAN access to the internet, how Funki Toys has access to military-grade hardware, the comparisons to Child's Play, the increased violence of the unrated cut, M3GAN's viral dance moves, and more.

M3GAN (2022)

For the latest Everything Action Commentary, Zach and Chris call the Ninjazords and watch 1995's Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie, which came out 30 years ago this month.

Released between the second and third season of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, the movie finds Tommy (Jason David Frank), Kimberly (Amy Jo Johnson), Billy (David Yost), Adam (Johnny Young Bosch), Rocky (Steve Cardenas) and Aisha (Karan Ashley) up against their most dangerous foe yet, Ivan Ooze (Paul Freeman).  Released after 6,000 years trapped beneath Angel Grove, Ooze destroys the command center and Zordon's (Nicholas Bell) containment field, causing him to slowly die.  Without any powers, the Rangers have to make a treacherous journey to the planet Phaedos, where they seek to gain the "Great Power" and save the galaxy.  While watching the movie, Zach and Chris discuss how easy skydiving seems to be, how many of the side characters are blatantly Australian, how Ivan can reference things that happened while he was trapped, the terrible CGI, who Mordant is, one-time use powers and weapons, and more.  Unfortunately, the movie is not currently streaming, available to rent, or purchase anywhere. However, it has been uploaded to YouTube, allowing you to sync it up below with our commentary track and watch along.

Everything Action Commentary: Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie (1995)

This week on the Everything Actioncast, Zach and Chris try to avoid getting infected by the Rage Virus and discuss 2002's 28 Days Later as the third entry in the series, 28 Years Later, opens in theaters.

Cillian Murphy stars as Jim, a bike courier who awakens from a coma to find the world gone to hell.  An experimental virus, dubbed the Rage Virus, has escaped a UK lab and has spread across the entire country, almost instantly turning anyone infected into a violent monster.  Jim finds a few fellow survivors, played by Brendan Gleeson, Naomie Harris, and Megan Burns, and the group flees London to find a supposed safe haven being broadcast over the radio.  Zach and Chris discuss how it's never a good idea to try to free experimental lab animals in movies, the surprisingly upbeat middle portion of the movie, the horror of how quickly the Rage Virus turns people, Cillian Murphy's transformation into a killing machine during the movie's climax, and more.

28 Days Later (2002)

This week on the Everything Actioncast, Zach and Chris head into the jungle and discuss 1995's Congo for its 30th anniversary.

Based on the 1979 novel by Michael Crichton, an expedition heads deep into the jungles of the Congo.  Peter Elliott (Dylan Walsh) wants to bring his research gorilla, Amy, whom he has taught to communicate in sign language, back to where he believes she was born.  Karen Ross (Laura Linney) is looking for a missing expedition sent by her company, TraviCom, which was after special diamonds that could revolutionize the telecommunications business.  The expedition faces many perils on the way to their destination, from deadly hippos to the dangerous gray gorillas who guard the area around the Lost City of Zinj.  Zach and Chris discuss the tease of Bruce Campbell at the beginning of the movie, Taco Bell product placement, why TraviCom doesn't switch to manufacturing laser weapons, the suave coolness of Ernie Hudson, and more.

Congo (1995)

This week on the Everything Actioncast, Zach and Chris get their asses to Mars and discuss 1990's Total Recall, which just turned 35.

Directed by Paul Verhoeven and based on the Philip K. Dick short story "We Can Remember It for You Wholesale", [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/We_Can_Remember_It_for_You_Wholesale] Arnold Schwarzenegger stars as Douglas Quaid, a construction worker who visits a company called Rekall, who can implant memories into clients minds.  Wanting a Martian spy adventure due to his constant dreams of Mars, the process unlocks Quaid's actual memories and he's forced to go on the run when people like his wife Lori (Sharon Stone) start trying to kill him and he makes his way to the actual Mars to figure out what is going on.  Zach and Chris discuss the ridiculously over-the-top violence, the many quotable lines and memorable Arnold expressions, the fantastic practical effects, why Mars would advertise their seedy red light district in commercials, the classic "is it real or a dream?" debate, and more.

Total Recall (1990)

This week on the Everything Actioncast, Zach and Chris go undercover with Fletch as the movie turns 40, releasing on May 31st, 1985.

Based on the first book in the Fletch series by Gregory Mcdonald, Chevy Chase is Irwin P. Fletcher aka Fletch. A reporter for the Los Angeles Times who writes under the pseudonym "Jane Doe", Fletch goes undercover and uses fake identities and disguises to pursue his leads. While investigating drug trafficking on the beaches of Los Angeles, Fletch is approached by Alan Stanwyck (Tim Matheson), who offers Fletch $50,000 to kill him, as he's dying of bone cancer. Fletch is suspicious and starts to dig into Stanwyck, uncovering a complicated scheme that involves fake real estate deals, multiple wives, suspicious flights to Utah, and more. Zach and Chris discuss the movie's excellent soundtrack, the amusing running gag of charging elaborate food orders to the Underhills, how most of Fletch's disguises are just him in a different suit, the many character actors who appear, including the late George Wendt and Joe Don Baker, and more.

Fletch (1985)

For the latest Everything Action Commentary, Zach and Chris return to 1984 to watch The Karate Kid, just in time for Karate Kid: Legends hitting theaters.

The movie that kicked off the entire "Miyagi-verse," which includes Cobra Kai and the original sequels, The Karate Kid, stars Ralph Macchio as Daniel LaRusso, who travels from Newark, New Jersey, to Los Angeles with his mother, Lucille (Randee Heller).  Daniel catches the eye of cheerleader Ali Mills (Elisabeth Shue) but also Johnny Lawrence (William Zabka), who bullies and beats Daniel down with karate learned at the Cobra Kai dojo.  Daniel gets help from his apartment building's handyman, Mr. Miyagi (Pat Morita), who uses unorthodox training methods to help Daniel prepare for a karate tournament to face the Cobra Kai head-on.  Martin Kove co-stars as the ruthless Cobra Kai sensei John Kreese.  While revisiting the movie, Zach and Chris appreciate how Mr. Miyagi trains Daniel but also gets a bunch of housework done for free, why a restaurant manager job has better pay and benefits than an office computer job, the enigma of Ali being a popular cheerleader along with kind of a nerd, how it seems like there was a mass exodus from Jersey in the 80s and more.
