This week on the Everything Actioncast, Zach and Chris bike into the wasteland and discuss 2015's Turbo Kid, which just celebrated its tenth anniversary.

Initially starting as a potential segment in The ABCs of Death, T is for Turbo [https://vimeo.com/29852932], the directing team of Roadkill Superstars, turned the short into a full-length feature.  Munro Chambers stars as The Kid, a survivor in the post-apocalypse who scavenges the wasteland on his BMX bike and is obsessed with a comic book superhero called Turbo Rider.  He encounters a psychotically upbeat girl named Apple (Laurence Leboeuf) who immediately declares them best friends and tags along on his adventures, which eventually puts them in the path of the ruthless warlord Zeus (Michael Ironside) and his gang of warriors.  Zach and Chris discuss the hilariously great idea of everyone riding bikes through the apocalypse, what factions were fighting in the war that caused the apocalypse, the ridiculous gore, the incredible synthwave score by Le Matos, and more.

Turbo Kid (2015)

For the latest Everything Action Commentary, as summer winds down and the back-to-school season begins, Zach and Chris watched the 1987 action comedy The Principal.

Jim Belushi stars as Rick Latimer, who gets sent to be the principal of the crime-ridden Brandel High after an arrest for fighting at a local bar.  Working with the school's head guard, Jake Phillips (Louis Gossett Jr.), Rick tries to clean up the school, get the kids back into class and take down the head of main gang threatening the school, Victor Duncan (Michael Wright).  While watching the movie, Zach and Chris discuss how Rick seems to be able to turn people to his side after just one conversation, Rick's driving a motorcycle into the school, disgusting drink combinations, the secret real villain of the movie, the insane editing of the final fight and more.

Everything Action Commentary: The Principal (1987)

This week on the Everything Actioncast, Zach and Chris battle for Earthrealm and discuss 1995's Mortal Kombat, which just turned 30.

One of the best video game adaptations ever made, Mortal Kombat finds Liu Kang (Robin Shou), Johnny Cage (Linden Ashby), and Sonya Blade (Bridgette Wilson) in the Mortal Kombat tournament hosted by the sorcerer Shang Tsung (Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa).  If the warriors from Earth lose, the planet will be conquered by the forces of Outworld, under the rule of the emperor Shao Khan.  The Earthrealm warriors have Raiden (Christopher Lambert) and Princess Kitana (Talisa Soto) on their side, but they'll have to face the deadly likes of Scorpion (Chris Casamassa), Sub-Zero (François Petit), and Goro (Kevin Michael Richardson) to win.  Zach and Chris discuss the movie's incredible theme song "Techno Syndrome", what the exact rules of the tournament are, the awkward Kitana/Liu Kang "fight", why Raiden isn't having Earth warriors training to prepare for the next tournament after losing 9 in a row, and more.

Mortal Kombat (1995)

This week on the Everything Actioncast, Zach and Chris are blowing stuff up with Bob Odenkirk and discussing 2021's Nobody as Nobody 2 arrives in theaters this weekend.

Odenkirk plays Hutch Mansell, a former "auditor" for various government agencies who retired and lives a mundane, boring life in the suburbs.  After a home invasion, he lets his old skills slip as he tries to find the thieves and inadvertently starts a war with the Russian mob, led by the ruthless Yulian (Aleksei Serebryakov).  Zach and Chris discuss how the giant collection of money, the Obshchak, is a real thing, the similarities to John Wick and Taken, what Michael Ironside's manufacturing facility makes, how everything might have been different if Hutch had a car, and more.

Nobody (2021)

This week on the Everything Actioncast, Zach and Chris enroll at Pacific Tech and talk about 1985's Real Genius for its 40th anniversary.

Val Kilmer stars as Chris Knight, a senior who takes physics prodigy Mitch Taylor (Gabriel Jarret) under his wing as the pair work as part of a team developing a powerful laser.  The team is unaware that their professor, Jerry Hathaway (William Atherton), is secretly working for the CIA and plans to turn over the laser, if it gets completed in time, to be used as an orbital weapons system.  Zach and Chris discuss the extent of the damage being done to the Pacific Tech campus, the lack of a unique soundtrack song, how the pranks are based on actual events, why the CIA would outsource a top-secret weapons project to a college science professor, and more.

Real Genius (1985)

This week on the Everything Actioncast, Zach and Chris pull the ripcord on 1994's Drop Zone, starring Wesley Snipes, which just released on 4K [https://amzn.to/3HhcK3T].

Snipes plays US Marshal Pete Nessip, who is escorting a computer hacker, Leedy (Michael Jeter), on a plane with his brother and fellow Marshal, Terry (Malcolm Jamal Warner).  The aircraft is hijacked, with the hijackers kidnapping Leedy and skydiving out of a blown hatch from the plane.  Terry and several other passengers are killed, and Pete is determined to track down the skydiving crew who pulled off the hijacking and get justice for his brother.  Yancy Butler co-stars as Jesse Crossman, who introduces Pete into the world of skydiving.  Zach and Chris discuss how Pete can instantly perform solo skydives, Gary Busey's overly complicated villain scheme, how world champion skydivers wrote the movie, how the film evolves into a classic slobs vs. snobs 80s sports movie, and more.

Drop Zone (1994)

This week on the Everything Actioncast, Zach and Chris get Fantastic and talk about the 2005 version of Fantastic Four as the new movie featuring Marvel's First Family, The Fantastic Four: First Steps, opens in theaters.

Opening in July 2005, Fantastic Four was part of the Fox side of Marvel movies, which also included the X-Men movies, Daredevil, and Elektra.  Ioan Gruffudd, Jessica Alba, Chris Evans, and Michael Chiklis are the titular superhero team, given superpowers after being exposed to cosmic radiation during an experiment in Earth's orbit.  Victor Von Doom (Julian McMahon), CEO of Von Doom Industries, is also affected and gradually decides to become a supervillain, eventually clashing with the Fantastic Four in the last 20 minutes or so of the movie.  Zach and Chris talk about how the Fantastic Four are cause their first big hero moment saving people from a bridge accident, Victor brutally murdering the head of his company's board with zero consequences, X-Games and the other product placement, Jessica Alba constantly being forced to strip, and more.

Fantastic Four (2005)

For the latest Everything Action Commentary, Zach and Chris are joined by special guest Addam to watch the 2012 martial arts movie The Man with the Iron Fists.  Directed, written by, and starring RZA from the Wu-Tang Clan, RZA is The Blacksmith aka Thaddeus Henry Smith.  Working in "Jungle Village" making fantastical weapons for whoever pays, he's trying to raise enough money to free his love Lady Silk (Jamie Chung) from having to work as a prostitute for Madam Blossom (Lucy Liu), and he eventually gets drawn into a battle between warring factions of the Lion Clan.  While watching the film, the guys discuss how long it takes for the titular Iron Fists to appear, Russell Crowe's unhinged performance as Jack Knife, if the entire movie was just a ploy to shoot endless footage of sexy Asian women, the constant introduction of new characters, and more.

Everything Action Commentary: The Man with the Iron Fists (2012)

This week on the Everything Actioncast, Zach and Chris head back to Southport and discuss the 1997 slasher movie I Know What You Did Last Summer as the legacy sequel hits theaters.

When four friends (Jennifer Love Hewitt, Freddie Prinze Jr., Sarah Michelle Gellar, and Ryan Phillippe) hit someone with their car after a night of partying on July 4th, they decide to dump the body in the ocean and never discuss it again.  One year later, the quartet starts getting threatening letters, and bodies start piling up as someone is aware of their actions and looking for revenge.  Zach and Chris discuss how Ryan Phillippe is a psychopath from the start, how the killer is more interested in pranks than killing for a large portion of the movie, the bizarre topography of Southport, how the iconic "What are you waiting for?!?!" scene was directed by a kid who won a contest, and more.

I Know What You Did Last Summer (1997)

This week on the Everything Actioncast, Zach and Chris get seduced by 1995's Species, which came out 30 years ago this week.

When SETI receives a transmission from an alien race with instructions for how to create a human/alien hybrid, an experiment is conducted that creates "Sil" (Natasha Henstridge), who escapes the lab she's contained in and disappears into Los Angeles.  The head of the experiment, Xavier Fitch (Ben Kingsley), assembles a team to hunt her down and destroy her before she can mate and start spreading more alien lifeforms.  Zach and Chris discuss the ridiculously talented cast, the great practical effects and terrible CGI, how easily Sil navigates LA since she looks like a supermodel, Forest Whitaker's "empath" abilities, and more.
