Therapy is something that I think is truly so valuable at every stage of our lives, some more than others. This episode isn't necessarily just about therapy, but more about why sometimes we need it and do actually have to return so we can have a good mental state of mind. This is not to say we are a failure or we can't handle what life throws at us, but it is to say we need a check-up just like we do for our physical every year.  Athletic Greens is giving our listeners a FREE 1-year supply of immune-supporting Vitamin D AND 5 FREE travel packs with the first purchase at athleticgreens.com/EMERGING    Please subscribe and leave a review on audio platforms as well :)  Apple Podcasts: http://apple.co/2TF3VnS Spotify: https://spoti.fi/2AfNQia Google Podcasts: https://bit.ly/3pmXw09 Amazon: https://amzn.to/2FKeu5X Follow the podcast: @wildandbasic on IG or "Wild & Basic Podcast" on YouTube

Unexpected Car Ownership in NYC

00:00:50
Speaker
Hey guys, so welcome back to Wild and Basic. I honestly can't believe it. I can't officially say I am a car owner. Wow, that- I just never thought I would say those sentences like this soon. I just honestly couldn't- didn't expect it.
00:01:07
Speaker
honestly never thought this day would come to be fair because living in New York City I just thought like it's like not gonna happen like it's definitely going to be some other time when I move out of this place but it did happen so anyways on that note I'm gonna give a little update on what was happening this past week then we're gonna be talking about actually something very important but also something

The Role of Therapy in Life

00:01:34
Speaker
that's just it's actually hard for me to talk about but I just think it's also important to talk about therapy and I have I think definitely talked about it here and there about me going to therapy and how it has been helping me but I also do want to talk about just overall but also
00:01:51
Speaker
from the perspective of how sometimes we take breaks from therapy or we just don't go anymore then over time things happen or some things just come up then we realize maybe it is time for us to go back to therapy and go back to opening things up and talking about our issues or not necessarily even issues or the things that bother us and I think that is important
00:02:20
Speaker
And it is not an easy topic to talk about. I completely understand. It is like honestly not even easy for me to talk about. Like I feel like I do want to help people out there who needs help or who also thinking maybe going back to therapy or needs therapy but I just also know that like
00:02:41
Speaker
It's just it's hard like it is very very hard And I just want us to talk about a little bit and maybe this will help someone and that's all I want you to get out of this episode
00:02:53
Speaker
Okay, so that was a topic. Now let me give you guys a little bit update on what I was just saying.

Tesla Pickup Experience

00:03:00
Speaker
So yeah, so last Friday, I picked up the car from Tesla service center. Honestly, like, there were like some mixed odds about this. So what happened was like, as I just entered and there was like this QR code you scan it, you check in.
00:03:17
Speaker
There's this like lounge. Pretty cool. Again, like because I have never bought a car before, maybe this is like all dealers, but it was a cool experience. So you go in, there's a lounge, you get coffee, water, all free, you know, included.
00:03:32
Speaker
obviously you're paying so much money for the car so better be included but still nice feature so you just wait for it until your advisor comes in then you go upstairs again this is just the brooklyn one so some of the place is obviously huge this one
00:03:48
Speaker
You know, urban space, I guess it is fine. You go upstairs. And I thought it's gonna be big space because it's all the way in Brooklyn, you know, it's not in Manhattan. It's still tiny, guys. Like, you guys are gonna see the video. I am posting it, like, probably later today or...
00:04:05
Speaker
Maybe not today, actually, tomorrow. It is like... It is small. It's not huge. And everything was parked, like, so close by to each other, because all the cars that was being delivered, and mine was, like, one of them.

NYC Parking Challenges

00:04:21
Speaker
and some people already picked up their car and like they were leaving or they came at the same time but I took that like the longest because I was so scared of the you know damages or like some sort of what is it defects that apparently had used to happen because I have seen so many videos so because my appointment was 5 pm and turns out they're closing at 6 pm which I didn't even realize so it took like a lot
00:04:46
Speaker
Because I literally just finished by the time they were closing and the guy was like if you have any more questions Because otherwise we were closing. I'm like, what are you saying? Anyways, yeah, it was it was a fun trip though. Anyway, so we picked up a car then I again knowing me, you know, I need to take pictures with the car. So Shockingly this place was so close to IKEA in Brooklyn So I had to drive to IKEA parking lot and took pictures if you want to see them go on my Instagram. It's fun
00:05:17
Speaker
a little bit of that then I think main story in here is that like because I still haven't got my monthly parking space for the car and I'm still like shopping around I already had an idea like I didn't just buy the car and didn't know where to park don't get me wrong I'm not one of those people I'm a worker I plan everything every single detail
00:05:37
Speaker
But because I just wanted to try like Siri parking for a few days and also because I don't want to get parking in the middle of the months or like even end of the months, they still don't count it full months. So you have to kind of wait for it to be almost end of the months to get the monthly parking. So you just only pay for a month.
00:05:57
Speaker
So it has been a trip to park on the street, guys. Like I already got my first ticket. And people respond to my story that like it's apparently a usual thing in New York. Like people just get a ticket and they don't even move their car because it's like it's cheaper to just keep your car there versus just move it and pay for parking again.
00:06:24
Speaker
And even parking meter here, it's like $8 for two hours. Rubbery. Pure rubbery. It's like you're robbing people. It's just insane. That, and I don't know, there are just so many things I was like, what? Like they're, they're not essentially what I was saying. I would say this is like on my Instagram. I was like, there are rules.
00:06:48
Speaker
Then there are unspoken rules. Like I felt so stupid. Like because apparently there were like some street cleaning on Mondays and other days. So I was moving my car at 8 a.m. because I'm like, oh my God, cleaners are coming. But I was so stupid. I should just stay in the car and wait for the cleaners to come if they were coming. So I moved my car and I lose my spot. And street cleaners never came. Like I was waiting around. Street cleaners never came.
00:07:18
Speaker
and someone took my spot. So turns out street cleaners sometimes don't even come. I don't know where our money is going, tax money is going in New York City, but they don't come all the time. So it's very absurd. That's one reason I'm saying with New York City is like, I feel like comparing to any other, not even city, I mean any other state is like, there are rules for sure. Like you don't pass on the red light or you don't do this, you don't do that, right? Like there are strict rules, obviously.
00:07:45
Speaker
but then there are people just like no one follows rules like no one and same in here it's like i feel like there are rules that like just like needs to be followed but then just people don't care sometimes and same i guess like sanitation officers they're just like oh do i need to clean today maybe not maybe not today and that's exactly what happened
00:08:05
Speaker
I was so pissed and parking has been like I feel like it has been okay some days and not okay some days but that's I guess what you get for street parking and yeah that has been my experience so far and people have been so helpful to me I have to be honest on Instagram and everything like telling me their stories and telling me tips and like there's also app that like people I asked something and people told me
00:08:32
Speaker
what they used to do or what they were doing with their car. The moral of the story is a lot of the times when people say, oh, people don't drive in New York City, that is not true. That is incorrect. Like all these garages, guys, they're full. Like if people don't drive, why are the garages are full?
00:08:53
Speaker
So it's just there's so many cars in the city. People clearly feel certain type of way because of the subway, recent like shootings and like not being safe. I can totally understand that. And I just feel like there's just definitely not enough space for sure for parking. But it's definitely a thing. Like I didn't realize how many people had a car because when I posted about it, so many people responded to my stories. And there's a big percentage of you guys following on Instagram that are from New York City or live in the boroughs.
00:09:22
Speaker
Like, I was surprised that many people had a car. Like, I didn't realize that, but I guess, like, just normal, and that just didn't make me feel bad. I feel like I was expecting that people are gonna judge me, because a lot of the time people have. They're like, oh my god, you're getting a car, you're stupid, it's a liability, you're buying it, whatever. Like, you know, people say so much shit. But I'm just glad, like, it was the other way.
00:09:44
Speaker
That's why when I was posting my stories, no, on my like on my caption, I was saying you guys can all judge me if you want because I really meant it. It was a joke for sure. But I was like, I don't care. You know, I really, really don't care. So that was a little bit of update. So

Tesla Attachment and Concerns

00:10:01
Speaker
I'm still learning, but it has been definitely a trip to be a car owner in New York City. So much to learn, but it is definitely experience and I love every moment of it.
00:10:13
Speaker
I have to be honest, I am super happy about my choice, but I'm also very terrified because it's like having a baby. I know I'm referring to my Tesla, a baby, but it is kind of like that. And I want to make sure like she doesn't get scratched. I know it's a new car and I have attachment issues probably. And I'm going to have attachment issues to her, but I just want to protect her.
00:10:36
Speaker
And I hope nothing will happen to her because I don't know. Shit happens, guys, especially on the street. So and I don't trust people and for a good reason, you know, bikers, motorcyclists or other cars. Things happen. On that note, I'm just going to end this update, whatever I was doing. And let's talk about something serious.
00:11:01
Speaker
Today's episode is brought to you by Athletic Greens. So I started taking AG1 because I never really liked taking pills or vitamins and I just really wanted to take a supplement that tastes great and also it's just not pills or vitamins. Maybe something in all-in-one and that's what AG1 is.
00:11:22
Speaker
So AG1 consists of 75 high quality vitamins, minerals, whole foods source, superfoods, probiotics and adoptogens. So I have been using it for a while now and I love it. It doesn't taste like super healthy. It has kind of a mild tropical taste that you can drink every day and won't get tired of.
00:11:43
Speaker
It costs you less than $3 a day and you're investing in your health. It is cheaper than your cold brew habits. Trust me, I know. I spend probably way too much money for coffee. It is cheaper than getting all the different supplements yourself and you're investing all in one nutritional insurance essentially. Right now, it is time to reclaim your health and arm your immune system with the convenient daily nutrition. It's just one scoop in a cup of water every day. That's it.
00:12:13
Speaker
No need for a million of different pills and supplements to look out for your help. To make it easy, Athletic Greens is going to give you free one-year supply of immune-supporting vitamin D and five free travel packs with your first purchase. All you have to do is visit athleticgreens.com slash emerging.

00:12:40
Speaker
First of all, let me just say therapy is something that a lot of people have mixed opinions about.
00:12:48
Speaker
Some people think it is unnecessary. Some people think just like something awfully wrong with you that you need the therapy. And some people just think that it's just a waste of money, honestly. Like, that's just the thing. But in today's topic, I'm not just saying like, I'm not talking about why therapy is important. I want to talk about
00:13:12
Speaker
why sometimes there are breaks in therapy or why sometimes you feel like we are healed because we have been going to therapy so long, then you feel like, oh, we have to come back. And that's what I want to touch base on. As much as we don't want to admit it, there are times that things happen in life. It could be multiple things. I'm going to get into it in a bit that can trigger certain memories or certain things that we have felt before.
00:13:43
Speaker
and maybe we have passed through it with therapy but maybe we are not completely healed and that's why maybe we might need to go back to therapy or go back to opening up and talking about fear feelings fears or the things that bother us
00:14:03
Speaker
First of all, no one can tell us if you need to go back to therapy or not. It is a question we need to ask ourselves if we do, but other things we need to think about is like, what are some things or some reason that we are thinking we need to go to therapy? Because even if we are having that thought, that is already one thing, but there are also other things that we have to consider that do we really need to go back to therapy? And those are some things that I want to talk about it today.
00:14:32
Speaker
So number one thing is this is like just overall thing. If you are feeling the same type of way, the triggers are back or whatever you're feeling with the effects and you just feel like you're not your best self, something is affecting you. Your mental health is not in a good state.
00:14:52
Speaker
you have some symptoms like anxiety, depression, you know, stuff like that. That automatically, I mean, not to say like, oh my God, go to shrink, go to a mental hospital, not in that way, but just the way that like, maybe you need to check. You need to just get mental health check. Like maybe at this one session and just to see where your head is up.
00:15:16
Speaker
and where your head is at. Yeah, that's what I'm trying to say. And I think it is hard to accept this. This is even the first thing because I feel like sometimes things go on and on for days, for weeks or even months, then we don't even see it. Then all of a sudden it just clicks to us. We are like, wait, what's going on?
00:15:36
Speaker
The thing was is sometimes this is just maybe me or I don't know, Virgo thing. I know I always collect connected with the my sign, but we tend to keep so many things inside and we tend to just analyze things ourselves and don't tell people. And what happens is that because we keep it so much inside and
00:16:00
Speaker
after a month or two or I don't know or six months or two it just comes up and then it's not pretty it's it's hard it's a lot to deal with so because we haven't really expressed it and talked about it so it's hard and these are some symptoms to just say that like oh maybe I do need to just talk to someone and get something off my chest
00:16:24
Speaker
So number two, maybe we are going through some major life event. I think a lot of the times, you know, life can throw us many curve balls and some can be really, really big events. Some can be things that we can really not handle well, I guess, not to say like we're not strong, but I feel like sometimes some things can be just a lot like in that way.
00:16:52
Speaker
There's many things to mention this, you know, some things could be obviously good, you know, just like adopting a baby or having a baby, getting a dog, I don't know, having a car, buying a house, apartment, many things. But this could be also very stressful because there are so many things to think about that could obviously affect your mental health.
00:17:17
Speaker
And other things obviously could be bad things like like losing your job or I don't know getting out of a relationship, losing someone, like like having a loss. It's hard. Yeah, it's very very hard. So those are obviously things that that could really really detrimentally like change your life for sure.
00:17:38
Speaker
That is something that like you might feel like you're out of control Hopeless I think that is something that you might be like I do need to talk to someone about it And I'm telling you guys this doesn't mean that you know it's end of the world You know sometimes we feel like that with certain events
00:17:54
Speaker
or we feel like we're just like way over our heads and I think that's the time sometimes like it feels so great to just talk to someone and those feelings that we have I know it could feel like it's just oh my god like we are just
00:18:10
Speaker
We are just not in a good place, but sometimes even just talking about it and not even finding a solution, it makes that feeling that we were feeling that like it was like, oh my God, it's just so bad. It makes it like, I don't know, maybe even 10 times less.
00:18:25
Speaker
like it just makes it feel like oh it's okay it's gonna be okay and I think that's what we need to find it in ourselves and that's why sometimes therapy helps so much and it's also over time it doesn't just happen with one session is that like we talk about it although there is no solution but
00:18:43
Speaker
because we talked about it and because we kind of expressed what we were saying. Sometimes just keeping it inside is not enough. We have to also say it out loud. And sometimes just hearing that makes us realize, wow, that's a rational thing to say, or that is what I was feeling. And wow, OK, that felt so much better. Now I know what I'm going to do, even if it is not going to work out, just like it feels OK. I feel like so many things. Let me make a decision.
00:19:14
Speaker
It's hard. You can't eat us up. You might not find a solution right away. And that is hard. Let's be honest. But I think over time, because this therapy, so many things might not have a solution with it because therapies is not your life coach is going to give you a solution.
00:19:34
Speaker
but it's gonna they're gonna listen to you and they can also analyze maybe what you're trying to say but that is sometimes exactly what you need and that's why sometimes like i'm like wow i i just do miss talking to someone and i do need to go back
00:19:50
Speaker
And that's not to say you're a failure. That's not to say you don't know yourself. There's really something wrong with you and that's not it. I think everyone needs therapy.
00:20:05
Speaker
this doesn't mean that like oh my god you have to go to therapy all the time or you need this on a consistent space but i think here and there when there are stuff going on just like i mentioned in the beginning of the episode those two reasons i was just giving you guys very basic things that's what i was just feeling from my perspective
00:20:22
Speaker
I feel like you just feel like, oh my God, like I do need to get to get this off my chest and talk to someone. And I think not to say that like talking to our friends, family is like it's not the thing that we could do. Of course we could do. But I feel like sometimes you also need more than that. Like some like a third party that's just complete stranger or someone who has a background essentially in psychotherapy that could essentially just give you some insights. And I think
00:20:51
Speaker
that really just help things make sense to you. Because sometimes, I think, as I was mentioning, it's like, because there are big events, there are bad events, or there are just feelings overall that we have, it could really eat us up. It could be crying all the time. It could be feeling emotional all the time.
00:21:10
Speaker
We could just feel like even the simplest thing that is bothering us, not even the simplest thing, there's a simple problem that's bothering us. We just make it such a big deal. It's because we are in this emotional distress.

Emotional Impact of Life Changes

00:21:23
Speaker
And I'm telling you guys, this is just me. This past whole week or just this past two weeks, honestly, ever since like the process of getting a car and dealing with everything, I literally have been on the edge. But even before that, I feel like there were many other things that was going on on top of it. It just made me feel like everything that was happening, even just simple problem on top of it.
00:21:42
Speaker
It just made me feel, I don't know, so angry and so upset. And every single problem that was coming up or that I was trying to fix, it's just like, I know it's a problem that I can fix and there are problems in life. You know, like there's always going to be problems. We always have to kind of accept that. But I feel like some reason like that week or in the past two weeks is like every problem that was happening, I was just taking it. It's like a, maybe a problem is like the importance of the problem, not even importance of the problem.
00:22:15
Speaker
how difficult to fix that problem was maybe like 4 out of 10 on a scale but I was like oh my god it's 10 out of 10 like it's that bad oh my god it's just like it was just really making me so nervous and so upset and I think that's just because sometimes
00:22:32
Speaker
We are in this circle or in this, I don't know, phase that we are not doing so well and we are keeping things in. We are not talking to someone and we are feeling these type of ways. And I just realized, wow, it could have been so great to just talk to someone about it. And that's when I realized, maybe I didn't need to go back to therapy.
00:22:54
Speaker
I have been going to therapy for so long but then I took breaks and there were like times that that was not available and I am also someone that like who just can't just go to any therapist. I have tried another one through better help.
00:23:10
Speaker
but I just feel like it's so hard for me to open up and that was just very difficult for me and that's why I just stuck with my own therapist but I just like encourage everyone to like if you feel the certain type of way and you just feel like everything is just becoming too much for no apparent reason sometimes it feels like that
00:23:27
Speaker
that doesn't mean that there is anything wrong with you. It's just me saying sometimes you have to get things out of your chest and maybe just one session or a couple sessions if you can do it. It just it really depends on your lifestyle that like it will really help. I realized the times that like even I went to therapy maybe once a month that just really helped me to just get things off my chest and talk about it.
00:23:51
Speaker
especially the things that that was really bothering me you just feel so relieved but also feels like these these weights that have been on your shoulders have been lifted off and you just feel so free and I think that is the feeling that we are looking for if you are in this stage and I encourage every one of you guys to try it
00:24:15
Speaker
I'm going to try myself. This is like the episode, not just for you guys, but also for me, too. Honestly, almost every episode in this podcast, that is just kind of like that. On that note, I'm going to end this episode. I hope you guys like this episode. If you do, please don't forget to rate us on Apple podcast or very get your podcast. And I'll see you guys next week. Bye, guys.
