Disclaimer, all views expressed on this podcast represent the host and his guest and not the companies or agencies they are associated with. Welcome to Tony's Game Lounge, a biweekly podcast that covers everything in the world of video games, TCG, tabletop and more. Here's your host, Tony Fourteen.
00:00:21
Speaker
Hello, everybody, and welcome back to another episode of Tony's Game Lounge. I'm your host, as always, Tony14, and joining me this week, returning from the world of Twitch, Sonic speedrunning, and also now in Eorzea and Kamurocho sometimes. It's MatoySR! Hello. What's going on? It's going good, Matoy. Glad to have you back. Welcome back.
00:00:51
Speaker
Yeah, it has been a while. It's been like two years at this point. Yeah, roughly two years. Actually, yeah, two years because the episode that you were last on came out in March 2022 when we were talking beforehand and looking at what we did. It is like almost two years. I don't know if it's to the day, but it's to the month at least.
00:01:15
Speaker
It's at least to the month I remember talking about being stuck in the life of a Jubilife village.

Hot Takes on Video Games

00:01:24
Speaker
Yeah. For 125 hours. And we'll be going to a new place soon where you'll be going in for another 125 hours possibly.
00:01:36
Speaker
No, potentially. Oh, potentially. But before we do talk about any of that, we have a brand new segment that we introduced this season called hot takes that we do right at the start of the episode. And our guest gives us their hottest video game take. OK, so I don't think I have one that's going to be that surprising. The people who frequent me, but otherwise it might be by. So.
00:02:06
Speaker
For those who have been following me for a while, y'all know that I am really big in the Pokémon outside of the speedrunning stuff that I do for Sonic. And I have never been a fan of most of Gen 4, so mostly just Diamond and Pearl.
00:02:23
Speaker
And it is still to this day, my belief that even with how badly Brilliant Diamond and Shine and Pearl did, it's still way better than anything that Diamond and Pearl introduced. Whoa! Is this Diamond and Pearl specifically? Yes. I think Platinum fixed like 90% of my problems.
00:02:43
Speaker
I'd agree with that, honestly. I would definitely agree with that, because I would say Platinum is better than Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl as well, because a lot of those problems that Diamond and Pearl have are also the same problems that Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl have. And it still baffles me that they didn't just remake Platinum.
00:03:07
Speaker
Yeah, I'm kind of baffled too because the code is like almost one to one. It's it's so weird. It's really weird. You get it. There's if there's just more to do in platinum as well like more Pokemon the battle frontier like
00:03:22
Speaker
They they had a Ilka had a chance or with Pokemon gave this to Ilka They had a chance to just do platinum instead now Thankfully did the modern community took it upon themselves to give us. Oh, yeah. What was it? Yeah, and it's done pretty well. They've They've done good with that. I've heard good things. Oh Yeah, and there's that one person whose name escapes me on Twitter. They always make these like
00:03:51
Speaker
Gorgeous animations taken from like past games like Colosseum and XD and kind of implement them and Kind of influence from other sources like the anime as well, which is really cool to see in game Nice, that's cool. It's really cool.

Pokémon News and Discussions

00:04:06
Speaker
And it's on topic that we're talking Pokemon because there was a Pokemon presents There was it's it was it wasn't this past week, but it was two weeks ago and old boy it was for Pokemon day and
00:04:21
Speaker
If you love the mobile games, that's basically all they talked about for like 90 percent of the show. Yeah, there's a lot of mobile stuff, a lot of mobile stuff, which we'll go over right now, starting off with Pokemon Go. They're collaborating with the anime Pokemon Horizons to bring you Captain Pikachu.
00:04:40
Speaker
Into the game and also char cadet sarah ledge and armor Rouge are also getting added As like some of the next batch of the gen 9 Pokemon to get into Pokemon go But if you want another Pikachu with a hat
00:04:57
Speaker
Congratulations, you got one. I think there's already like, I forget how many. There's like one for each different anime series. Yeah, one for each. And then there's ones on top of that. Plus the birthday one. I think like a Christmas one. Yeah, I believe so. It's a Halloween one too, right? Probably a Halloween one. It wouldn't surprise me. Maybe there's one for Easter. There's probably one where Pikachu's wearing a whole ass turkey on his head.
00:05:28
Speaker
Who knows what Pikachu is gonna wear next maybe he'll maybe he'll put Cramorant in his mouth who knows oh my god
00:05:36
Speaker
Who knows? Jeez, what happened to that Cramorant that it's so small? We had the Nerf him. The pygmy Cramorant. The Pikachu wanted the revenge, so we got it. Jeez. Then we got like the one thing that wasn't, one of the few things that wasn't a mobile game. They announced that the Kanto starters, aka Venusaur, Blastoise, and Tarzard, they're gonna have... Blastoise is going on right now.
00:06:02
Speaker
Yeah, by the way, yeah, I think Venus or already happened. Yes, we're into Blastoise now and then Charizard will be returning. It's the same Charizard that they've done before, but they're bringing it back again. I don't really know Charizard anymore, so we'll do this. Yeah, exactly. Then I'm going to say this about this Pokemon presents.
00:06:24
Speaker
Throughout the show, Pikachu was with the unknown. So we were expecting, oh shit, is he doing Gen 2 stuff? Well, that's what I was expecting. Like with the unknown, like, oh, the unknown. And then you also go into the Johto beasts are coming to Pokémon Sleeps. We could entertain Raiko. Pokémon Masters, they're 4.5 year update. It's silver and Tyranitar. Yeah. And it's a shiny Tyranitar. They were really highlighting Gen 2. Yeah.
00:06:51
Speaker
Uh, and then, uh, Cafe Remix and Unite didn't have any Gen 2 stuff, but Keridon and Maraidon are coming to Cafe Remix, along with, like, you're able to get one of the starters from Gen 9. Uh, Maraidon, Phalanx, and Seralage are coming to Unite. Maraidon's already in. Phalanx is coming up soon, and Seralage is a future one. Uh, that's coming to Unite. Yeah, my understanding, there was a lot of people expecting Maraidon already, and know that it's gonna be, like, broken.
00:07:20
Speaker
But we have no not really any assumptions on the other two from what I've heard hype I'm a phalanx is kind of hype not gonna lie I agree, but I was like for the other two. I don't play unite, but I like watching it Yeah, it's cool to see like just which Pokemon get in and phalanx is such like out of left field choice That is just yeah, hell. Yeah, let's go phalanx. Let's go. Oh I'm a phalanx stand I stand the man's I
00:07:48
Speaker
We love phalanx. We do. And then we finally got to the new announcements. Starting off with another mobile game.
00:07:58
Speaker
But this one actually looks kind of cool. It's Pokemon TCG Pocket, which is a brand new TCG collectible app where every day you'll be able to open two, three packs of Pokemon cards in the app and collect them. And some artwork you'll be able to actually go inside, like a fucking museum painting, and it looks kind of cool.
00:08:20
Speaker
It's not NFT based cycle. You're collecting like digital. It's not it's not NFT based. They have to say that So you don't have to worry about Pokemon getting into that shit It's just it's just trading cards. There's gonna be like an in-game act like a Condensed version of the TCG game you can play with in the app with friends as well
00:08:45
Speaker
So good it'll be interesting to see like how this condensed version works, but I think it's good This I think this is Their response to Yu-Gi-Oh Not master dual dual links. That's the dual links. Yeah Definitely an answer for that one. I think I
00:09:07
Speaker
Because, let's be real, Master Jewel is its own thing. I played Master Jewel for a good year or two. I can't even remember at this point. It went by so quick. And now I quit. I'm aware of the addiction that it is, for sure. It was good. It was fun. And then they improved and then flew the Landry's. And what else was it? Despia happened. I got sick of the meta so bad that I quit.
00:09:33
Speaker
There was a lot of arcs that weren't so great. And then now it's labyrinth and there's going to be more shit that's coming. Apparently, though, according to one of my Twitch chatters, shout outs to Kay, apparently the next pack that they're adding is going to have Earthbound immortal support.
00:09:53
Speaker
Which that's crazy because I never thought I'd see the data we'd get more earthbound immortal support And for those who don't know what earthbound immortals are go watch yugioh 5d's go watch the first season You'll know you'll understand what earthbound immortals are they're cooler in the anime than they are in the card game back to pokemon we got our last announcement
00:10:17
Speaker
Which I can see myself playing TCG pocket though. Just want to yeah. Yeah, no I'm thrilled for this actually like I love opening card packs I just don't like to with Pokemon like as I sold all my Pokemon cards I think I don't want to store all these in boxes and sell them eventually like I have my Yu-Gi-Oh cards I'm gonna keep those forever or until my grandkids or whatever go sell them on their own. Yeah
00:10:39
Speaker
I don't care about like but I'm keeping all my Yu-Gi-Oh cards. I'll still get Yu-Gi-Oh cards But like I that's all I really want I don't want to like get into collecting other cards unless I like really get into Wakanda one day
00:10:51
Speaker
Yeah, for sure. So with with this being able to like open and collect Pokemon cards in an app, I love that. I love that so much. And it's like the kind of gotcha stuff. But like you get two, three things a day every day. So it's like, ah, yes, my daily gotcha dopamine hits pretty much. And you don't have to throw. You don't have to throw money at it. Yeah, which is great. Like there's probably going to be. Oh, if you would like to throw some money at it, here you go. But you don't have to, which is nice.
00:11:20
Speaker
Yeah, because legit I've been playing pokemon sleep since like last august and I have not thrown any money at it So you could throw money in pokemon sleep. You can you can buy diamonds to buy things But you don't need to really like unless this unless those diamonds help me sleep better Why would I but
00:11:44
Speaker
that baffles me there's like items that will help but you can still get those same items if you just rack up your sleep points like it's not
00:11:55
Speaker
You don't really have a reason to spend money. It's just like how patient you are, basically. Oh, cool. Lovely. Awesome. Anyway, on to the big announcement. Trailer starts and text appears and it's like, oh, shit, this text looks like it was from Pokemon Legends. And then we get into this like 3D diagram, Pikachu's there. And then we start seeing a bunch of gen six Pokemon.
00:12:22
Speaker
And we're like, what the fuck? This isn't Legends Kyurem. This isn't Johto. And then it zooms out and it's Lumioh City. And we're like, Nonny the fuck? And then boom, they rip it. Lumioh City Redevelopment Plan. And we're like, what is this? Little come on, Legends. ZA. He has ZA.
00:12:49
Speaker
Which is just AZ backwards, by the way. It's just AZ backwards. This game looks like it takes place after the cannon was fired in X and Y's long Pokémon War. This is probably what happened after the cannon was fired and then rebuilding Lumiose City.
00:13:09
Speaker
Yeah, that'd be my guess. I feel like this game is going to take place like we had Legends Arceus in the past. This one's going to be in the future. And I think it would be foolish for them not to have some kind of tie in with the Paradox Pokemons, particularly from Violet. That's a possibility. Because those are the future ones.
00:13:33
Speaker
Yeah, it could be this like it's hard to say where this will fall because it could be a future thing because of how they showed the designs for that, but it also could have been the development of Lumiose City. Oh, yeah. Or like, you know, building the tower and making it how it is. It's going to be one of those two things, which is.
00:13:53
Speaker
Still hype mega evolution is coming back for this. Oh my gosh. Yeah, like can you imagine if Because what's getting me is the like redevelopment plan, right? It's like it's like being developed for a second time I Feel like I feel like did it like when the cannon was fired didn't do like massive damage to like the whole house world. Oh
00:14:16
Speaker
Yeah, it destroyed that one town for the most part. I don't know how those houses just like flipped over like a domino instead of actually just like blew up. But that's how it was drawn. So I don't know. But yeah, because it left a massive hole in that town and then it probably did cause damage to Lumios like if I had to guess like a lot.
00:14:39
Speaker
So we're never really shown that. But yeah, we were really we never really were shown much of like the cannon's destruction when it was fired the first time by AZ. Yeah. So it'll be interesting to see. Hey, maybe if we're lucky, we'll actually be able to catch a variant or a form of AZ's flow at finally. That would be because that is one of the very few Pokemon that you cannot. It's it's been shown, but you cannot physically own.
00:15:09
Speaker
The very few that happens and hey, maybe Zygarde will get more people are suspecting Xerneas and Evelto will have like an origin form as well.
00:15:21
Speaker
Yeah, I can see it because, you know, if they did the same for Dialga and Palkia, why not? Like, I feel like this is a thing that they've done for all their special variants of regions. Like, I think that kind of started way back in Ores, where we got the Primal Groudon and Kyogre. Yeah, we got the Mega Wadi's. Yeah, and the Rayquaza was special because it doesn't need a Mega Stone to use Mega Evolution.
00:15:48
Speaker
Oh, yeah, it doesn't. That's why that right. That's why it's fucking bad. There's a lot of things. Yeah, you can throw a life orb on it. Yeah. Oh, life form of Mega Rayquaza. I mean, ever. Hey, I'm in danger. Oh, God. But yeah. And lastly, it's not coming out this year, it's coming out next year.
00:16:11
Speaker
We actually, this is like the first time where we, aside from a mobile game, we don't have a new Pokemon game that we know of coming out this year. Now, there is still

Speculations and Reviews

00:16:21
Speaker
the chance that in the fall, we'll get another Pokemon Presents and they'll announce Black and White remakes or Gen 2 remakes or whatever. And they'll have a winter release for those. There is still that possibility, but we don't really know entirely.
00:16:41
Speaker
Yeah, we don't really have info on anything other than what was announced, but IMO, if they make Johto games, I wouldn't be disappointed if it was in the vein of let's go.
00:16:58
Speaker
Yeah, that's what people are suspecting with when they do a Johto remake. It'll be Let's Go Johto. Some people are saying, oh, it's going to be Let's Go Whooper and Togepi. Or Let's Go Meryl and Togepi. I mean, they have to make it something like one of the cute ones, like probably. Sure, but it's like, you might as well just call it Let's Go Pikachu and Eevee 2, Electric Boogaloo.
00:17:21
Speaker
Because it makes sense for Eevee because Eevee had Espeon and Pikachu had Pichu. So you could just do, let's go Pichu, let's go Eevee too.
00:17:36
Speaker
Very funny it'd be funny. It's like ah cool excellent I'll have another Evie and that the other people get stuck with a fuck but this time It's like the difference would be you have a way you can evolve your Evie, but you can Yeah, which would be fine with me cuz I'll be on an SPN are my favorite eviolutions
00:17:58
Speaker
Very that's because of and they can call us like oh, yeah call seems so good. Oh my gosh
00:18:05
Speaker
Um, they can even do a thing with like Pikachu where yeah, this one can evolve too, but it can evolve. You have the choice of like keeping your Cantonian, uh, Raichu or having an evolve into the Alolan form or something. Or you evolve into Cantonian Raichu and we introduce Gorochu finally. Oh my gosh. After, after all these years, 30, almost 30 years, like,
00:18:31
Speaker
We finally give you Gorochu. Finally. As you're walking, it sits on your shoulders. That's how strong these 10-year-olds are. Oh my god. Yeah, they're just carrying casually like 70 pound rat on their back. Makes them crazy, y'all. It almost makes them crazy.
00:18:57
Speaker
What's that on your back? Oh, it's just my friend. Don't worry about it. He's just my friend. He's just my friend. Every time he yawns, he sounds like he's murdering somebody, but don't worry about it. Every time he yawns, it's a foghorn. Where'd all these other Pikachu come from?
00:19:18
Speaker
Right outside Ilex forest right outside. Ilex forest is that a celibate? Are you scared it away? No? No come back
00:19:29
Speaker
That's great. That's the other Legends game I'm hoping for eventually though. Another one taking place in the past. A Legend Celebi makes so much sense. Because Celebi is a time travel Pokémon so it could have been playful and it sends you back to Johto and you witness the whole Ecruteak City fire where the tower gets burned, Ho-Oh brings the beasts to life.
00:19:52
Speaker
Yeah, like I have an ongoing theory to like, um, and I haven't really seen anybody discuss it that much, but because we have paradox forms of the three beasts, like, and they're from the past, I'm like,
00:20:09
Speaker
meant like I interpreted that is maybe this is what they looked like before everything happened in the revival happened that hoed that's what the three beasts those were the three beasts that actually perished in the fire and it wasn't a flare on Jolteon in Vaporeon. Yeah, like I have a feeling it was I believe their names are gorging fire raging fire and walking wake. Yeah. Yeah. I have a feeling for the three. And then when everything happened, like we got Raiko Ente and Suicune.
00:20:39
Speaker
Yeah. Hello was like, I got to fix that neck, bro. Hold on. Yeah, we can have two giraffe rigs in the region. I can't. It's just I just can't anymore, man. I got I know a chiropractor. Hold on.
00:20:57
Speaker
Yeah, then Ho-Oh flew over, uh, Ho-In and Alola, and went, God damn it. Like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like,
00:21:27
Speaker
I can't believe this. It's great. But yeah, Pokemon presents. It has people talking. No. Legend Z came out of left field. Nobody was expecting it. All the leakers were wrong. And yeah, it's the first time that Pokemon kind of surprised us. Yeah, it's been a while.
00:21:50
Speaker
Like, oh, we're just going to be happy to play another Legends game. Yeah, especially because it's mechanically similar. If it's mechanically similar set in Kalos and we get we'll probably we'll get new Pokemon. We'll get like Colossean forms. Oh, my God, that would be really cool. We're going to get close uniforms and most likely the starters that they have are each going to get a mega evolution. Oh, yeah. So we know that you use the starters are not going to be from Gen 1 or Gen 3.
00:22:20
Speaker
Now they could do all of the Gen 6 starters and just finally give them a Mega, which is a possible theory that they could do.
00:22:30
Speaker
Or we get a little bit of like a Gen 5 in there, a Gen 4 and a Gen 2. Maybe even a Gen 7. I know people are scared that we're gonna get like a mega Incineroar. Oh no. Because that thing already has been destroying the like VGC meta for like about a decade now. Enjoying the VGC and pussies and pussies everywhere.
00:22:58
Speaker
I don't know if the internet's ready for a Mega Incineroar. Oh God, I don't think so. I'm scared of what it might be. Especially if it gets on all fours like Demon King Ganon or something. It's like oh boy, it's just a big beast now.
00:23:20
Speaker
Yeah, I like to his toro cat ways back to the toro cat ways revert to primal instinct meow Yeah, it doesn't get a mega evolution. He gets primal reversion
00:23:37
Speaker
Oh no! Oh my god. Oh no. Well, that was the Pokémon Presents. We'll have to just wait for more details on Legends ZA. And we don't actually have a release date for Pocket either, so. But we know it's coming out this year. We do know it's this year that that pocket's coming out. We just don't have a specific date yet.
00:24:00
Speaker
We did get the wonderful clip of the guy popping off, so you're going to see that everywhere in videos for the next year.

Week in Review

00:24:08
Speaker
Yes, exactly. With that, our headline of the week out of the way, it's time to dive into what else happened these past two weeks and look back at the Week in Review. Recapping the major stories of video games and the world of tabletop, looking over recent releases and reports from the Game Lounge crew, it's the Week in Review.
00:24:28
Speaker
It's starting off with some of the games that came out. We had Brothers A Tale of Two Sons remake drop for modern hardware. Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, which I wish I was playing. I'm not playing it yet because I'm still playing Persona 3 Reload. I'm 82 hours in. That's understandable. God, it looks so good, though. Oh, it looks so good. I'm so close to getting there, though. I'm near the end of Persona 3 that I can get there soon. Fingers crossed. It's my third RPG, like back to back to back.
00:24:57
Speaker
Felt very much felt we also had WWE 2k 24 unicorn overlord from Atlas and Sega Quilts and cats of Calico and taxi life a cab driving simulator where you drive a cab in Morocco, I think is where it is It's fun. It's it's somewhere in Europe. I can't remember exactly where but it's in Europe not America Europe Hmm
00:25:27
Speaker
Can't wait to drive up the Eiffel Tower.
00:25:33
Speaker
Just go up it like a ramp ah Tokyo drift taxi life a cab driving simulator my favorite anime Dance like it's like the final taxi mission you do drive all the way up The Eiffel Tower drop the person off at the top like just playing deja vu with the background Oh Yeah, you have like nitrous or something God
00:26:02
Speaker
That's not the e-break. That's the night shirts. Exactly. In the world of gaming news, starting off, Nickelodeon and Xbox are releasing a SpongeBob Xbox Series X for $699. It's only going to be available in the U.S. and pre-orders have either just started or they're happening soon.
00:26:26
Speaker
But it's limited could be limited, but you can pre-order it and you know have Spongebob Square box You two could step on the beach Step it on the beach
00:26:42
Speaker
Imagine it has different quotes when you oh my god. Oh my god In some layoff news a lot of layoffs happened this past two weeks EA laid off about 670 workers and PlayStation had massive layoffs with about 8% of its workforce specifically Sony had layoffs about 900 people and they had to close down one of their London studios as well with these layoffs
00:27:10
Speaker
Which again, it's shitty in that it's happening. The industry is seeing a lot of these lately and it's just who's next at this point. Yeah, it's been like every few weeks it feels like we hear about something similar. Yeah, it's definitely happening a lot and hopefully Jeff Keeley discusses this at Summer Games Fest or the Game Awards this year because he didn't last year and he definitely should have.
00:27:37
Speaker
No, yeah, for sure. Like, if you're that high of a beacon in the community, I feel like you should acknowledge these things. Yeah, no, absolutely. In more PlayStation news, their monthly games for March are here. It's Sifu, Hello Neighbor 2, F1 23, and Destiny 2 the Witch Queen, which is specifically that the Witch Queen expansion you can get for Destiny 2 because Destiny 2 is a free game. Sifu is one of those games I've always heard really good things about.
00:28:03
Speaker
Yes, I'm definitely going to pick up seafood so I can finally play it because I've heard a lot of good things. I wanted to play it, but it's like I don't want to spend money right now. But now I can play that is very fair, which is why I love PlayStation Plus and having it because there's so many games they added like tales of a rise to it recently and a bunch of others. Rollerdrome was like one of the monthly games last month as well as foam stars, which I'm going to try out soon and let you know if it's
00:28:31
Speaker
If Square Enix did a good job at copying Splatoon or not. In probably one of the biggest stories these past two weeks, there was a Nintendo lawsuit where Nintendo sued the makers of the open source Switch emulator Yuzu.
00:28:46
Speaker
They were sued for facilitating, facilitating piracy at a colossal scale and Yuzu folded and will be paying 2.4 million dollars to settle this. The company has also agreed to permanently
00:29:03
Speaker
The company agrees to be permanently enjoined from working on Yuzu, hosting Yuzu, distributing Yuzu's code or features, hosting websites and social media that promote Yuzu, or doing anything else that circumvents Nintendo's copyright protection, and it will surrender the yuzu-emu.org domain and delete all copies of Yuzu and its dev tools. This also affects 3DS emulator Citra, as it's also owned by them.
00:29:30
Speaker
And both are essentially getting discontinued. And I believe this all happened because the Yuzu emulator was promoting shit on social media, which as an emulator that does current hardware, you never should do.
00:29:45
Speaker
Yeah, it was the combination of that and the fact that they had a Patreon where they were legitimately earning money for developing it, essentially. Yeah. No, like I'm this this has all been like a huge debate on any layers. I'm fine with emulators that emulate old hardware because a lot of that old hardware is hard to get a hold of nowadays or some of it's gone to dust. Like it's the best way of game preservation.
00:30:12
Speaker
But if you're doing it with modern systems like the Switch, Series X, or PS5 stuff... Yeah, with stuff that's readily available. Yeah, I stay away from that. You're better off... Most of that stuff is... Again, it's readily available. Yeah, sure, money is an issue, but it's like...
00:30:32
Speaker
This is legitimate like I would say old emulation. It's not piracy as much of It's like historically press preserving it Modern stuff. It's more piracy than anything Yeah, a hundred percent
00:30:48
Speaker
So it's sad to see the 3DS emulator Citra go that's a huge blow I will say but I'm pretty sure there are other 3DS emulators out there But Citra was one of the like better ones that I because I I did know I knew of Citra beforehand And I'm like, oh that sucks
00:31:08
Speaker
So it really does rest out of the whole thing. That's probably the thing. That's like the worst part of all of this is Citra has to get go down to you because of this. So rest in peace. We hardly do you for real. Yeah. R.I.P.
00:31:23
Speaker
On the other side of like some really happy news though, Stardew Valley 1.6, the update releases later this month on March 19th. We will be receiving a brand new major festival, two more minor festivals, more expanded light game content, brand new items, new crafting recipes, more dialogue, a new farm type, and winter outfits for all the characters.
00:31:46
Speaker
OK, that's probably going to be I wonder if that's something that people have been requesting for a while because I know a lot of people that play Stardew and that they didn't have that much like outfit options. Yeah, so it's hype. I'm so I'm excited for this. I don't know if I'll play the new update right away when it comes out because I'll probably be playing Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth. But of course I'll definitely maybe play Stardew over the summer again because of this without mods.
00:32:13
Speaker
play it vanilla again because I played it modded with oh yeah with the oh what mod was it like the expanded expanded stardew valley which I had like a couple new characters and a bunch of other shit it was really cool it was super cool that sounds really cool uh one of like the new NPCs like I like like other farmers that you can meet and one of them owned a wine guard
00:32:35
Speaker
And oh, what was her name? I can't remember her name, but her sprite was so gorgeous and she was romanceable and she's a cosplayer and a nerd. And it's like, oh, this is the gamer girlfriend that isn't Abigail. Holy shit.
00:32:50
Speaker
And it was great and it's like she actually like It like deals with like, you know, like the sadness like there's some trauma there because her parents died in a car crash And she was like easy. Yeah tragic backstory. It's like holy shit. Like it was it adds so much I can't remember what the mod is a real person like
00:33:09
Speaker
It's so cool like fucking if you're playing Stardew Valley go go grab some mods because it's a it's such a different It'll always be worth it and it'll keep the game fresh too if somehow you ran out of content Yeah, like holy shit like I'm excited to see this It's gonna be great. I'm excited for it
00:33:28
Speaker
What I'm not excited for this next store I mean is I'm indifferent the Joker is getting added to suicide squad kill the Justice League on March 28th So the 1,000 people who still play the game Congratulations, I mean that's if you're still playing the game. I was gonna say I Remember hearing when this game released and then nothing before nothing after oh there was before there was a lot of before because the game Oh, yeah, because the game kept getting delayed
00:33:54
Speaker
Oh, maybe I just like blocked it out of my mind because we got sick. Oh, yeah. We've we've known so much about Suicide Squad. Kill the Justice League of getting delayed, delayed, delayed, delayed. Kevin Koster's last performance, delayed, delayed, delayed. Oh, this game is kind of just bad, bad, bad. Like that's where it really is.
00:34:15
Speaker
In some selling news, Embracer Group will reportedly sell Space Marine 2 Studios Saber Interactive for 500 million dollars. This is according to a Bloomberg report. The sale would be to a group of private investors. That's developing, don't really know much aside from that. In...
00:34:37
Speaker
Terminator news the open world Terminator survival game has a proper title and an early access release date It's gonna be called Terminator survivors and it's headed to steam on October 24th So now you can survive in the world of Terminator Which I don't know how I feel
00:34:53
Speaker
Yeah, it's such a it feels like a really random thing like random IP to be doubling down on at this point I think I think the reason is because of that Robocop game that came out that did has some mild Oh, yeah that it makes right right like another robot type IP might as well make a video game and you know what I
00:35:17
Speaker
I mean, if I see some more about it, maybe it'll be interesting. I never really got into Terminator, though, so it's definitely not for me. Yeah, I'm kind of in the same boat.
00:35:32
Speaker
Control news remedy developers Alan waking on awake to Have assumed control of control their other game the studio announced today that it made a 17 million euro 17 million euro purchase or 18.4 million USD deal with five of five games Which is the publisher that granted all rights to control control to the multiplayer control spin-off code named condor and all future control products
00:36:00
Speaker
So Remedy has now secured the future of Control and I'm gonna be playing Control later this year because I need to play Alan Wake 2 and I need to play Control and Alan Wake American Nightmare still in the Alan Wake stuff. So yeah, exciting to see though, really cool.
00:36:21
Speaker
That is cool. In the funniest news all week, RuneScape's official Twitter account was unbanned after proving that it was not an eight-year-old child. Is that like a legitimate thing? Yeah. Like, wow. Yeah. I just like, I'm really curious to know how that misconception even like,
00:36:50
Speaker
was thought of probably something they tweeted probably they were just like noon instead of four in the morning it's dude on a Thursday it's not even taco Tuesday they got a child right now battle
00:37:10
Speaker
So yeah, that happened and whatnot. In some, I guess, some sad news. Nobuo Uematsu, the legendary musician who composed soundtracks for various Final Fantasy games. He has said that he has done composing full soundtracks for the series. In a chat with German outlet Zeit or Ziet, Uematsu said that he just doesn't have it in him to put together an entire game soundtrack anymore. And it will focus more on like personal passion projects.
00:37:40
Speaker
Yeah, it's very understandable. And it is sad at the same time because he has composed some of my favorite music and gaming in general. Yeah. So you still might see a compose for a little bit of Final Fantasy, but it might only be one or two tracks going forward. But to be fair, we have another legendary composer.
00:38:00
Speaker
of a fucking stokan who does 14 who did 16's music. We have him still and as long as he's still around the Final Fantasy is good.
00:38:15
Speaker
Now, speaking of stuff, back to Xbox. There was an Xbox partner preview showcase that announced a whole bunch of things that I'm going to quickly rapid fire through. A bunch of trailers, only like two of them had release dates.
00:38:35
Speaker
Starting off, we had Unknown Nine Awakening, which seems to be an Assassin's Creed-like game with possession powers. Slight of Hand, which is described as a hard-boiled third-person stealth sim. The Altars, an alien planet survival game where you have to clone yourself to survive the night.
00:38:53
Speaker
Creatures of Ava, a beast taming survival game. The Sinking City 2, a horror set in the 1920s USA. Final Fantasy XIV's full Xbox release is March 21st, so we now know that. Stalker Legends of the Zone trilogy is out now, and this is not an Xbox exclusive, this is on Xbox and PlayStation. I might be on Steam too. Didn't fully read everything. I wanted to get this down, this is very last minute of when I got this.
00:39:21
Speaker
Monster Jam Showdown, the first Berserker Kazan, Tales of Canzera Zao. This is that game that was shown off at the Game Awards by that one dude who dedicated the game to his father. We haven't released it for April 23rd for that game. The hypest thing that was shown off, in my opinion, Persona 3 Reload DLC Season Pass, three waves of DLC.
00:39:49
Speaker
New background music from Persona 4 Golden and Persona 5 Royal. The Velvet Room suits and music. And the big one coming in September. Episode Igis The Answer DLC. The last piece from the stand-alone episode from Persona 3 Fest. Remade DLC as episode Igis. So excited when that comes out in September to finish off the Persona 3 stuff.
00:40:18
Speaker
And also kanisugami path of the goddess was the last thing that was shown and that was the Xbox showcase Again, I only cared about like maybe two things in there Yeah, that's fair. But oh my gosh. Yeah, the p3 reload stuff is pretty much what I heard this morning Yeah, I'm so hype and lastly last in the news department after 21 years Roosterteeth is being shut down by Warner Brothers

Rooster Teeth Closure

00:40:46
Speaker
yeah that was like that was shocking to like everybody like as soon as that was announced yeah it's uh coming to an end they are currently looking to sell their podcast network to another place so like that includes things i believe i don't know if the roosterteeth podcast is a part of that but like red web fuck face
00:41:06
Speaker
Those are the only two I know off the top of my head But like all their podcasts that they do they're trying to sell places Ruby red versus blue and genlock are also trying to sell to other places So yeah, ideally finish. Honestly, I'm gonna say this let red versus blue die I think that one's run its core on for so long it's gone on for so long that if you do sell it do one more season and then Kill it
00:41:32
Speaker
Genlock, I feel like you might be able to get it was on HBO Max exclusively for season two, which was a bad decision, in my opinion. Season one, but like having any of those properties be, I think, like streaming service, like exclusive is.
00:41:49
Speaker
Not the greatest thing Ruby might possibly get picked up by crunchyroll They might grab Ruby, which would be cool But I really don't know it after volume 9 which volume 9 I would say is like one of the best volumes Ruby had I
00:42:06
Speaker
I don't really know how many more volumes you really can get out of Ruby after this selling you I like with Ruby you're either gonna do one or two more seasons and then kill it Like because it's gone on for so long now That's like you might as well just do like tie up all the loose ends and make one last season engine and it I
00:42:26
Speaker
Yeah, that makes sense. It has been a while to completely forgot how long Ruby's been around. Yeah. It's so yeah, but very sad to see go about 150 people losing their jobs to this once the shutdown officially takes place. And yeah, that's it's crazy because I grew up on Rooster Teeth for a long time and like.
00:42:49
Speaker
Five months ago, when Achievement Hunter officially said, we're done, we're ending it. And the four remaining members essentially formed Dog Bark, I think is what it's called now. It was like, wow, that's like a part of my childhood that's like, it's over.
00:43:10
Speaker
crazy to see go and now is wild. It's so I never like full on watch them myself. But I was very familiar with their stuff. I had a lot of friends who were into it. So like it's wild to see them just not be around anymore. Yeah.
00:43:25
Speaker
I believe this also is going to affect RTX down the line. I actually don't know if RTX will be effective because that's the whole Rooster Teeth Expo. I'm assuming that's going to go up in flames as well because of this. I would imagine, yeah.
00:43:41
Speaker
Uh, oh, sevens in the chat for Rooster Teeth. Uh, thank you to the thousands, millions of people that you entertained over 21 years. Um, and it's just sad. It's sad to see you go at the end of the day. It is sad to see you go at the end of the day.
00:44:01
Speaker
Yeah, it definitely is.

Final Fantasy XIV Excursions

00:44:04
Speaker
Moving on to live service game news, starting off with Final Fantasy 14. The SF 15 crossover event is still going on. I think you have like another week to get your regalia car, your Noctis hairstyle, and a discounted Noctis triple triad card.
00:44:21
Speaker
And it was on the what the 13th or 14th. Yeah, I think that's about right So I still need to do it myself Do you have the MGP for it because it's 200,000 MGP to get the car. Oh, okay. Well I'll find out go do your fashion reports if you need to get the money because it's expansive I had the money yeah III had the money
00:44:48
Speaker
because I was saving up to get the next mount at a million MGP. So I'm like, Oh, cool. I have enough MGP to get this. And then I got it. And then I got a million and got Fenrer as well. And also a new mount was added to the Moog station. The Lunar Moon amount was added to for twenty four US bucks that you could purchase it for. Not bad. It's I got it because I have every other mount from the Moog station and minion.
00:45:18
Speaker
Hell yeah, there you go. I have a problem. It's fine Listen listen to those who are listening. Have you tried? Have you tried the critically acclaimed MMORPG Final Fantasy 14? with a free trial Let's get our free trial going up to level 70 now level 70 including the award-winning heavens war expansion and award
00:45:44
Speaker
and award a nominee Stormblood. Stormblood didn't win, like, the award, but it was nominated for it. Up to level 70, no restrictions on play time. Join now, playing ARs yet today. Yeah. What are you waiting for? On Xbox 2. It's on Xbox 2. It's on Xbox. You don't have to have a good PC. Go on Xbox. Xbox, PlayStation, PC.
00:46:13
Speaker
Switch soon? No. I don't think the Switch would run. Oh my god, yeah. If it's running like maybe the version that came out in 2015. You see the Switch version is actually where they're gonna put the Legacy 1.0 version on.
00:46:31
Speaker
Yeah, that's exactly what it's going to go. And that's going to be the only place you'll get at. Before we dive into TCG news, we do got some esports reports. Let's turn to my boy, Mist and Wiggles. It's your boy, Mist here. If you don't know me, I love Apex Legends. It is probably my favorite game at the moment. It is fun. It is action packed. And the competitive scene is through the roof.
00:46:58
Speaker
and I am here to bring you your update into all things Apex Legends related. Having just celebrated its birthday a few weeks ago, turning 5 years old by the way, Apex has just launched its 20th season. With it came a whole new armor system and in-game perks. This system is crazy.
00:47:17
Speaker
Instead of landing in and finding armor on the ground, you spawn in with a white Evo armor that you level up by shooting people, getting kills, looting, anything. Playing your character's skills, and this has just changed a way that a lot of teams are playing, both casually and competitively. No longer do you land on a purple armor and just kill people because you have a better loot. No, you gotta earn that armor. In the competitive scene, this update
00:47:42
Speaker
has rocked a lot of metas. It dropped right into the middle of our first pro league split of this year and has completely changed a lot of the meta. For those of you new to Apex competitive, let me give you a quick rundown. There are four regions, North America, Europe, Middle East Asia, also known as EMEA, Asia Pacific North, also known as APAC North, and Asia Pacific South, also known as APAC South. There are 30 teams per region that make their way in through various qualifications.
00:48:10
Speaker
These qualifications can come from a previous year's performance or through the pro league qualifiers that happen in between splits and before the year starts. The competitive year is marked by three stages. Split one taking place primarily in the winter and late fall. Split two taking primarily in the spring and summer. And world championships happening at the end of the summer or early fall. Each split is played in individual regions. These 30 teams are put into three groups of ten and play a triple round robin.
00:48:38
Speaker
The teams earn points based on how they place at the end of each matchday. So each team plays a total of 6 matchdays and their total placement points are added up. The top 20 teams in each of their regions play in the regional finals. The top 10 from each group move on and qualify for LAN. The top teams from both splits qualify for the World Championships.
00:48:58
Speaker
This season 20 update has shaken up the meta greatly, as I mentioned earlier, with both new weapons taking the rise of power from some balance updates and a great number of team comps being played. Usually, there's only 5 or 6 different team comps, and usually 2 or 3 take the height of power. If any of you remember year 1 LGS, every single team played the exact same composition of Wraith, Pathfinder, and Watson. And now, all three of those characters are still in the meta, but with new teams, it is crazy. Apex Legends is in its debatable, blessed place it has ever
00:49:28
Speaker
been. March 9th and 10th are the last pro league match days before regionals. Currently Dark Zero is in first for the NA region by a large point margin, averaging second place in their pro league match days and recent scrim results. The former year 3 champions, TSM, are sitting 5th overall. If any of you are listening, interested in Apex Legends competitive or esport competition, NA scrims are hosted Monday to Friday at 5pm Central with game day matches being Saturday Sundays at 5pm for NA.
00:49:55
Speaker
For other more fun news though, February 24th, 25th was the Apex Legends Asia Festival. 18 of the top teams from Korea, Japan, and China met to celebrate Apex Legends in Japan. This tournament consisted of Battle Royale, Team Deathmatch, and Control Matches. TSM from North America and Team Alliance from EMEA were also invited as guests. This tournament was not about money or anything, it was just a time for teams to have fun. There was some cosplay events, some content creator matches, and more. At the end of these two days though,
00:50:24
Speaker
Ana A's team, TSM, took the W and brought home a trophy. So even though they might not have gotten a big prize pool, they still hovered the undisputed goats of Apex Legends at the moment. It was always nice when other regions host fun events and we viewers get to see some exciting Apex news outside of EA's hosted events.
00:50:41
Speaker
This has been an introduction. I hope you guys all enjoyed listening to this. Tune in next podcast to hear about what teams will be playing in the regional finals, as this next weekend will be the final set of match days for this split. This has been your boy Mist, signing off, Legends. I'm SirWigglesTheGreat, and I'm here to deliver some of the latest updates happening in the world of esports.
00:51:03
Speaker
Let's begin with one of my favorite leagues, the Rocket League Championship Series. Open qualifiers for the Major 1 Series began on January 26th with the first double elimination bracket. All three open qualifiers are now complete and we'll be moving on to the Major starting March 28th. As of recording this, not all the teams for the Europe ranking are set. The Swiss stage of the European Open Qualifiers 3 happens March 8th through 11th.
00:51:30
Speaker
However, Carmine Corp. has already qualified for the major. Current qualifiers for North America are G2 Stride, GenG Mobile, Luminosity Gaming, and OG. For the Oceana region, we have PWR and Quick Trip Pioneers Gaming. For South America, we have Furia Esports and Complexity Gaming.
00:51:51
Speaker
For the Middle East North Africa region, we have Team Falcons and Rule 1. For the Asia Pacific region, we have Elevate. And lastly, from the Sub-Saharan Africa region, we have Limitless.
00:52:04
Speaker
Moving on, the 2024 Valorant Champions Tour started off with a great kickoff tournament that wrapped up with a tight three games to two win by the Sentinels against Loud. This has secured them a spot in the VCT Masters series in Madrid. Competing in the VCT Masters we have Carmine Corp versus Fun Plus Phoenix, Gen.G versus Loud,
00:52:28
Speaker
Edward Gaming vs. Paper Rex, and the Sentinels vs. Team Heretics, all coming up on March 14th. The 2024 Counter-Strike season began with the Intel Extreme Masters in Katowice, with Team Spirit taking the win, qualifying them for IEM Cologne, the Blast Premier World Final, and the Esports World Cup 2024. The next series of ESL Pro Tour starts April 8th,
00:52:55
Speaker
with IEM China hosted in Chengdu. And lastly, a quick update on the League of Legends League Championship Series. The 2024 season started up on January 10th, and as of reporting this, the current standings for the top three is FlyQuest with eight wins, three losses, 100 Thieves with seven wins to four losses, and NRG Kia with six wins to five losses. Thank you for tuning in on this quick esports update. Now back to Tony for more on the game lounge.
00:53:25
Speaker
Thanks for that, gents. Diving into the world of TCG news, Pokémon Temporal Forces releases March 22nd, and then Twilight Masquerade releases May 24th. In Yu-Gi-Oh! Starting with Master Dual updates.
00:53:43
Speaker
There was a set of tryout duels called Time Travel 2004. It was really popular, apparently. The community wants them to actually implement this rule set as a special rule set for custom rooms. This rule set was only allowed cards from November 2004 and prior.
00:54:03
Speaker
Which I think is super cool that they made like that a special rule set for this event It's over now sadly don't know if Konami will actually listen. It's Konami. I thought they will I mean, it was really cool them for For them to actually use time wizards move and make it a whole meta. Yeah 2004 huh? Yeah, 2004 November prior November and prior
00:54:31
Speaker
Thanks, Time Wizard. Thanks, Time Wizard. In the TCG of Yu-Gi-Oh!, the Legendary Dex II box set releases March 15th, the Speed Duel GX midterm destruction on March 29th, Legacy of Destruction on April 26th, and the 25th Anniversary Rarity Collection 2 on May 22nd.
00:54:49
Speaker
In Magic the Gathering University Beyond Fallout, hey, that just released on March 8th! It's out now. You can now summon Dogmeat and the Brotherhood of Steel to your Magic the Gathering duels, which is really cool. Outlaws of Thunder Junction released April 19th, and University Beyond Assassin's Creed releases in July. We did get an early access look at one of the cards, which is just a hay bale.
00:55:16
Speaker
That's hilarious. The artwork does show like its SEOs in there like he dives to get into the hay bell, which is really cool. I love it. It's so funny. And Disney Lorkana releases into the England is also out now that also released on March 8th and the next set, set four, which we don't know the name of yet, releases on May 31st. And in the world of tabletop news, NASA
00:55:44
Speaker
has released a free original tabletop role-playing game called The Crux of the Lost Universe. It follows the mystery of what would happen if the Hubble Space Telescope disappeared. The official 44-page gameplay book can be downloaded on NASA's website and uses four to seven players.
00:56:06
Speaker
Yeah, out of any, I don't know, NASA's like the last thing I would have thought of to release something like tabletop. Yeah, it's really cool, though. It's it's like a hybrid of fantasy, but also very educational to teach people about like the importance of the Hubble Space Telescope. And I mean, I think that's really I like I love like astronomy and shit like that. So that's really it's really fascinating.
00:56:33
Speaker
So yeah, I believe it's like you can use like proper D&D rule like call of that rule sets and stuff for this or or Pathfinder I think it's like You can choose like which like set you want to use to do this in but that's still right But that's everything with the week in review any final thoughts on any of those my toy. Oh
00:56:58
Speaker
Um, honestly, like I don't play most TCG. So I guess other than the stuff that was kind of some of the stuff that was announced is really cool. And it sucks to see the layoffs and stuff, but.
00:57:15
Speaker
I guess I'm mostly just like focused on the Final Fantasy 14 stuff. Like that stuff's really cool that the event's still going on. And then we got another mount like... Oh my gosh. I wonder how big that one is too. And I think we're like a month away from when they said the FF16 event will be happening. Oh true, that's great. I believe they said, I believe Yoshi-P said April-ish?
00:57:38
Speaker
So yeah, I think so. Also, the Mughal tome stone event is like I think has like a week left as well or like two weeks. I think it's a little less than a week. I think it's like on the 11th. Oh, yeah. I believe. Oh, yeah. Weekly reset or no. And it's on the Monday, which means the Tuesday, the 12 is probably when they'll start part two of the this Mughal tome stone event because they give it up to get your tomes. Go run Praetorium 100 times if you need to. Yep.
00:58:07
Speaker
cuz everyone loves prey you know you love fratorium come on go in there just bring four tanks no you can't do that you won't you won't get your toes you won't get your toes my toy I know you need the toads though you do thankfully I got everything oh my god I got everything like
00:58:32
Speaker
I got everything I needed from it. So which wasn't much. I needed the the minion and the the dome out. I don't really care for like the one hundred point glam piece that they give you every Google. I don't care for those. That's fair. All right. With all of that, it's time to look at what's coming out ahead. Here's what should be on your radar for March 11th to 22nd.
00:58:57
Speaker
From AAA titles, indie hits, hidden gems, and hot pieces of garbage, here are the games coming out that should be on your radar.

Speaker
Because I looked at the steam page and it said the 13th and i'm gonna double check that again to make sure Uh, yeah comes out on the 13th of march unless it comes out like super late on that day So that is considered the 14th. 01:01:31
Speaker
Yeah, there's some really good ones coming out soon. Yeah. Star Wars titles like melatonin, like really good. Yeah. I'm excited for Star Wars. Oh, I'm so excited for Battlefront Classic Collection. I am when they announced that at the the partner, it was the Nintendo Direct that they announced that at. Yeah, which is like the craziest place to announce that. And it was like the hypest announcement of the day.
01:02:00
Speaker
It was, yeah.
01:02:02
Speaker
Like there wasn't a lot there, but there was that and that was cool. So I'm very excited for that I'll be playing that I'll probably do it on stream I'll play like I'll play it like that on stream with the boys like that's gonna be oh What the golf coming to PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 I didn't know that was not on PlayStation Go play it. I played it off the switch. Is it already for everything else? I pretty sure it is. Yeah. Oh, wow So go play it I'll probably play it again. I'm like it might be an easy platinum
01:02:31
Speaker
If I might I mean it'll definitely be an easy platinum the game's not hard Yeah, I got you. Hi my rush. Oh hi fire rush. I could say a million things about hi-fi rush. It's so good I'll get it again and play it again like I did with tunic when tunic came out on PlayStation. Oh
01:02:51
Speaker
Listen it has like a really good mod and community on PC as well. Oh, yeah The only mod that I like admittedly the only mod that I care care for very much is the fact that there is a full-blown I'm Jim or Lammy mod where you can play as Lammy, so That is what I care about And then of course Friday the 22nd that day is loaded Dragon Star 2 rise of
01:03:20
Speaker
Rise of Rodent, which is a game I do want to play, but I don't know if I'll be playing Final Fantasy still or not. And then Princess Peach Showtime, the game where Peach will be the protagonist and one of her powers isn't crying. Yep, it'll actually be quality. Quality, yes. Quality and far less misogynistic. Yes. Definitely.
01:03:49
Speaker
But that's everything coming out within the next two weeks. It's now time for us to finally dive into our main focus. Let's talk about what we're talking about this week in the Game Lounge. Conversations of past and future games, the state of the gaming industry, how big decisions affect gamers and anything else that's important to us. Here's what's going down this week in the Game Lounge.
01:04:11
Speaker
And our first topic, we're talking more speedrunning. Because of course we have speedrunner, MatoyaSR. This SR stands for speedruns. Yes, it does. Contrary to popular belief, where a lot of people have called me Matoy Senior.
01:04:26
Speaker
that's happened to me like four times in the last month like that's right uh it's so funny it's just like dang okay this has happened ever since i turned 30 coincident i mean that is when we become seniors let's be real that's true we are the back pain the joint pain
01:04:48
Speaker
That's what it happens. I mean, don't don't you actually don't you actually have like special gaming gloves that you have to wear? I do. I do. I won't condone the company because unfortunately they got into NFTs like two years after I bought these. But there are gaming gloves that you can get that are specified for different hand and wrist cramps and just strains. And if you have a if you have like what's called gamers thumb, it's also very helpful for that.
01:05:18
Speaker
I probably should invest in one of those because I've been feeling it in my right hand a lot recently. Oh yeah. It hurts a lot over time. I have it bad with both my wrists and my hands full blown because unfortunately when I started speedrunning back in 2014,
01:05:39
Speaker
I also was into competitive Smash 4 at the time, so I was doing both. And that destroyed my hands for a few years, and then I stopped doing competitive Smash in general, probably in a few months after Ultimate, maybe a year after Ultimate dropped.
01:06:00
Speaker
Like, about early 2019 is when I fully stopped Smash stuff. So, you know, the speedrunning thing still kills my hands, but the gloves help a lot. You've been speedrunning for a decade now. Yep, summer of 2014 is when I started. I didn't start streaming runs until January 2015. That's crazy. So how does a decade of speedrunning feel to you now?
01:06:27
Speaker
A lot has changed for the better, for sure. Not just in communities in general. Times in general were different back in 2014 compared to now. Things were definitely evolving, but you had a lot more problematic things being thrown around back then, and a lot less people willing to help you out for new runners.
01:06:53
Speaker
Thankfully, a lot of the people I surrounded myself with when I first got into Sonic Adventure were really cool people. So that was helpful. And I had my best friend, Bablex, also getting into it at the same exact time. So that was also very helpful.
01:07:10
Speaker
But back then we didn't even have a Sonic Adventure DX speedrunning discord. We had a Skype group. Oh my god. We had a Skype group with like 30 of us. Like that's all it was. 30 people in a Skype call. What's that gonna do? There is at least like half of those people who don't run the game anymore. Why?
01:07:33
Speaker
So a lot has changed. That's back in when I believe that either G Pro or CJ had the world record at the time for Sonic Story. My God, that's nuts. And the task back then was 33 minutes. The world record right now is 28 something by Nixr. Wow. Yeah, five whole minutes from the original task.
01:08:02
Speaker
So, obviously, big gap of 10 years, but since we've last been on a span of two years, how much has changed with Psyduck speedruns? So, from my... Like, I'm sure there's stuff that I still don't know that might have changed, but from observations, the big things have mostly been centered in Amy's story.
01:08:26
Speaker
Oh, OK. They discovered that in Final Egg in particular, there is a door that you're only usually able to go through with Sonic as the doors open where you can clip through it, similar to how you can clip through the doors in Hot Shelter.
01:08:45
Speaker
But it works a little bit differently. I don't completely know how it works. Because I've only attempted it a few times. I never actually did get it. But once you're through that door, you strafe back and forth taking diagonal lines left and right. And eventually, you manipulate a hammer jump in such a way that your gravity screws up. And you essentially float against the wall all the way up to where the elevator would normally bring you.
01:09:13
Speaker
But the way that we do it is in such a way where we cut out so much movement that it's faster than if you were to go to the elevator section and wait for the elevator to come down and take it up. It's like a pretty big time save in the last stage.
01:09:31
Speaker
Whereas Hot Shelter's big skips have been around for a few years now, so we've known about those. But those are probably the biggest things that we discovered as far as Amy goes. The rest of the characters really haven't had too big of discoveries.
01:09:48
Speaker
Like, I think the only other thing, and it might just be a thing that I didn't know about, is you can run up against the cannons that are next to the wall, and as long as you don't destroy them as Knuckles in his Skydeck, you're able to clip through if you pause buffer in a similar manner to how you're able to pause buffer through the wall in Lost World. Oh, okay. That is really a niche one, though, because you don't always need to do it. It just depends on your piece, RNG.
01:10:18
Speaker
OK, that's so cool. Those are like the major ones that I can think of that have been discovered like since I've been here last time. So of like all the stories, Amy's story is probably seeing like the most like traction right now because of the new skip. Oh, 100 percent. Yes.
01:10:36
Speaker
What would you say right now is like the second most popular after that one with runs? So I think even with that discovery with Amy, since then, we had like we had an Amy Story tournament go on in the Saser channel, which is Sonic Adventure era speed running community. And that would be S.A.E.S.R. underscore. Events, I believe, which channel slash discord.
01:11:06
Speaker
So Sazer did an Amy Story tournament and we got a couple new runners out of that one, which was really cool to see them learning the tricks and surpassing older runners that only knew the old strats and stuff like that. It was really, really cool to see. We had a whole arc where somebody got top five. It was really cool.
01:11:29
Speaker
Yo, let's go. We love to see those tournament arcs just happen in speedrunning. Like, one of my favorites to this day, oh god, who's... Was it yours? You would go on like a crazy tournament arc with one of the SA2 tournaments? Somebody did. I don't remember. Somebody had a really good run in one of the SA2 hero story tournaments, but I don't remember who it was. Oh, I think it was Digifrog.
01:11:56
Speaker
Oh, I think you're right. Yeah, cuz ninja frog he was up against traitor and then the power of God and anime blew up traitor's neighbor's barbecue. Oh Yeah, that's right. I forgot about that whole thing like the it was literally just nature Yeah, it was just nature but we we chopped it up to God and anime and then ninja frog went up against someone
01:12:20
Speaker
It was like, he went up against a couple of people. He was like, he surprisingly had like a good run through in like Losers. Yeah. I heard there was a few upsets there because like, um.
01:12:29
Speaker
And Ninja Frog already had pretty good times, but compared to who he was up against, it was considered an upset, from what I understand. Yeah. And also, I think during one of just qualifying races, Ninja Frog beat KD4 as well. Oh my gosh. I think that was a recent one too.
01:12:50
Speaker
Goodness, that's wild It was just because Katie missed something. I Can't remember. Yeah, I've been something major because I haven't talked to ninja frog in a while. There's been busy with oh, yeah Also, he's like on overwatch recently, but he's on his like colleges overwatch team for eSports. Oh, yeah Yeah, and but he's like he's busy busy busy with like a lot life in school and stuff which just shout out to ninja frog He's a fucking homie of the podcast. He's a homie is I
01:13:19
Speaker
He is like the homiest homie you'll ever get to know. And I barely see the dude around in chats and he's always super wholesome. Yeah, I played D&D with the dude for like two years. That's awesome. Dude is a gem of the earth. We love that. We do. He's our favorite frog. He is our favorite frog. It goes ninja frog and then froggy.
01:13:46
Speaker
yeah exactly oh my god I will do with how much has been discovered is there how much more discovery is there with its that X do you think
01:14:07
Speaker
So honestly, I think you would have to find some pretty major things. Because at this point, the runs are honestly pretty optimized outside of Knuckles being almost entirely RNG. And you're just hoping for the IL set in every stage.
01:14:30
Speaker
Other than that, honestly, oh, and Amy as well, because she has the RNG doors and final leg for the last portion. Those we still can't skip because the thing with that is the door brings you to such a high point in the stage. There's no way you'd be able to make it like with any type of manipulation unless we had something similar to like Sonic Frontiers or Super Mario Sunshine, where we had some kind of movement tech where we were able to just launch in the air.
01:15:01
Speaker
Yeah, that's not gonna ever be possible to skip those doors. So we just have to hope for door one every single time. Yeah, there's there's no hedgehog space program at Sonic Adventure.
01:15:11
Speaker
No, there's no that. And I don't know what the sunshine one is called. I think it's just rocket launch because it's like using the rocket nozzle unintended way. Something like that. That sounds about right. My Mario speed running knowledge is not very knowledgeable. I don't watch a lot of my knowledge is mostly from watching 64 and Sunshine outside of those two. I know some galaxy stuff, but I can't tell you what a single trick is called.
01:15:35
Speaker
We have a watching traders been Doing some Mario Galaxy speedrun stuff is like oh, yo, yeah, I've seen it really cool Yeah, I'm glad to see him back streaming again cuz he took a bit of a hiatus like oh, yeah doing doing some stuff You know he and it's now to like shots. Yes shots a lot of like the sonic homies They're just so great people
01:15:59
Speaker
No, they really are. Yeah, 100%. I wouldn't have half the confidence I have running the games that I do without them, for sure. Any time they even just stop by for a few, they're always hyping me up. And it's just nice to see. And they're always super nice to me too. Any chat that I go in and I wish them good luck, they ask how I've been because typically it's been a while because I lurk in a lot of chats and all that.
01:16:28
Speaker
Yeah, I know a good thing about Larkin. I lurk everywhere. Oh, yeah, big same. I have like five Twitch streams open. I'm just lurking in each one. Oh, yeah. Yeah, I do that so often. I have five people that's like, ah, yes, the chill homies. And then I'm like, all right, now to find someone new so I can go persuade them to be on this podcast.
01:16:54
Speaker
Just go to their chat. You're just like hmm wait, but first have you heard of the critically acclaimed MMO? Gosh, but I think like um also to go back to the whole like what? Stories get more most traction because I didn't really like answer answer that one. I just talked about Amy and her discoveries but Sonic story is still probably the most run category and
01:17:22
Speaker
like even now you have a lot of people still getting into it but there are very dedicated knuckles runners too yeah i feel like those the treasure hunting always has those dedicated runners because it's just such it's like that's their that's their their
01:17:37
Speaker
They're high, they're weed, they're crack cocaine. I think it's also because they're like mini collectathons. Like essentially. They are. So Knuckles has that appeal to him where if you don't have the time to play a full on Banjo-Kazooie or SN64, you have Knuckles' story. Hey kids, do you like Banjo-Kazooie? We have Banjo-Kazooie at home, it's called Knuckles. Yeah, it's bite-sized. It's literally like bite-sized collectathon. Really is.
01:18:06
Speaker
So where are you where do you stand now compared to two years ago both like skill wise leaderboards? Whereabouts are you now?
01:18:15
Speaker
So I improved a lot more than I thought I did. Like, I didn't realize that two years ago, I didn't have a Sub-34 yet for Sonic. And I just actually PB'd on Sunday. Hey, let's go. Funny enough, I got a 33-46. Nice. So I am on, this is like the arc that I'm on. I am on the Sub-33 arc. That is what we are aiming for right now. Hell yes.
01:18:43
Speaker
Once I hit a 32 something in Sonics, I'm going to move on. It's been stressful enough, so I just want to hit the 32, pop off, probably cry, and then move on. This is going to feel so good to hit it. What will you be moving on to after Sonic? Honestly, I think I want to knock out some of the smaller ones first. I'm going to be frustrated doing it, but I want to get the big goal out of the way.
01:19:11
Speaker
yeah big and then i might start grinding knuckles because although it's gonna be rng dependent it's at least easier it's a lot easier so i might start grinding that down tails i got my goal for i'm good on tails like
01:19:28
Speaker
That one we're good. Like it's the only category I think I got like my full blown goal for it. But speaking of, Tails is another one from two years ago I had a 2008 and now I have a 1940. So that was like the big surprising one. I didn't see that much time save for me for Tails but over time it just like it kept going down and I had a streak where I PB'd Tails in three separate times in the same week.
01:19:53
Speaker
Nice. I'm like, damn. All right. Nice. And then, Gamma, I'm getting close to my goal. Two years ago, I had a 10-29. I now have a 10-07. So once we get the sub 10 there, I will move on from Gamma. Nice. So with SadX getting closer and closer, that is eventually all done. What's next? Are there any games you're looking to start speedrunning?
01:20:17
Speaker
So I do run two other there's two other games that I started running two years ago and I still occasionally dip into and that's Sonic Shadow the Hedgehog Neutral Glitchless. I do that and I do Sonic R. Most of the time when I do Sonic R, I do 100 percent no out of bounds. I do have a time for any percent no out of bounds as well. But my main focus for Sonic R would be 100 percent no out of bounds.
01:20:47
Speaker
And two years ago when I started Shadow, I had a 20-30, now I have an 18-06. I'd like to get like a sub-17 or sub-16 with that eventually. And then Sonic R 100% no out of bounds. I had a 14-37, I now have a
01:21:04
Speaker
1357. I don't know how much more I'm wanting to bring that game down because that game at a higher level is a lot harder than it when you first start running. It is kind of wild how precise you have to be. Yeah. For just like the most minuscule of turns. Yeah. Sonic R is one of those games where it's like I look at like top level speed runners. It's just like, oh, cool. They're starting the first course. How did they get to the city in like
01:21:32
Speaker
It's only been 30 seconds, and they're in the living in the city. Dude, like, Sonic R runs are so wild to me. And I remember the first, like, the first run I ever watched of Sonic R was Nimput's world record. And that blew me away.
01:21:47
Speaker
And then, uh, and then like four years ago, uh, here's, here's some mottoylorophoria. So four years ago, uh, it was during one of, uh, Amber Cyprin's events. I don't remember which event of theirs specifically it was. It might've been Glitchless Gauntlet or the year before that one. I don't remember which one it was, but the 2020 event in June, I believe it was.
01:22:10
Speaker
uh no it wasn't in june i think it was in may because june something else happened uh but in that may i saw the first speedrun i ever saw from resu
01:22:24
Speaker
And that was the first Sonic R run I have seen since the few Nimput streams that I, at the time, watched him play. And I was blown away because by then the game had evolved a little bit and there were things I didn't see and I was just like, damn, this is really, really fast. How is she pulling off these things really quickly?
01:22:49
Speaker
And then the fact that your knuckles throughout the entire run until you get to, I believe, until you do Reactive Factory, then you switch to Metal Sonic. And even that movement tech is a little bit different than you would do with knuckles. And it was really cool to see.
01:23:12
Speaker
So that really got me into Sonic R. And eventually I picked it up. The reason I picked it up is because TLDR, I contacted Risu. I found out that she also speedrun Sadix. We became friends. Hi, we're four years later and we're like some of the best friends ever. It's great. And sometimes she's a goose.
01:23:36
Speaker
Yeah, she is a goose. Yeah, true, true, true. And I'm here to debunk that rumor right now. She's not a duck. She is a goose, okay? For whoever's listening. She's a certified silly goose. No ducks to be found. No ducks given, just goose. Yeah, it's just goose.
01:23:57
Speaker
But she had a run at AGDQ 2022, and I knew some of the tricks here and there because I was going to be one of the commentators. Yeah, I remember this run. I watched this run. Yeah, it was fun. Where I also mentioned the fun fact that Tails really hates the fact that Eggman made a Tails doll instead of a metal version of him.
01:24:22
Speaker
Uh, but literally a month before it, I was like, you know what? Fuck it. And I just learned the run. I just learned Sonic R 100% on a balance. And I was like, all right, cool. Now I have a better understanding of these tricks so I can commentate and know somewhat what I'm talking about. Shout out to Dilcat though, because he, like, he
01:24:43
Speaker
And Glinta, who was formerly Silver Sheep, carried the commentary for that, along with Risu herself. I was just kind of there, and I knew some things, but I was like, just along for the ride for the most part, and it was a fun time, and it was really good. But she also had the flame fatales, or sorry, frost fatales, Jesus, wrong season. She had the frost fatales run recently, where she did Sonic's Story for the first time in an event, and that was wonderful to see, so I'm proud of her for that too.
01:25:13
Speaker
but yeah, so hopefully working on Sonic R at some point soon. Other than those two runs, I am looking into one non-Sonic game. Hopefully. I want to guess, I want to guess, is it Penny's big breakaway? It is. Okay, because I was going to bring that up. I watched Emerald play it like several times and I'm like, okay, I kind of actually am thinking about picking this up. This looks really cool and I like the speed tech a lot.
01:25:39
Speaker
I just want to play the game casually. Like it's on my list to play ever since those trailers came out originally. I'm like, fuck, this does look really good. Oh, yeah. And it's like it's by the people who gave us Sonic Mania. So, you know, it's going to be good. Like despite. Yeah, it's going to be bad at Sonic Mania. I'm not good at 2D Sonic games. I'm just like they're challenging. They are. They are. They also the one thing I'll never forgive them is Hydro City. Oh, yeah.
01:26:07
Speaker
Not just because of the level design because of the level name and the debate that it's oh, yeah The place hydro city is the dental organization in hydro city There we go there it is never told you about a July we have a lot of facilities here
01:26:32
Speaker
Yeah. Yeah. But Penny's big breakaway. That game is speed tech wise. It's been looking crazy. Yeah. It's like it like there's things in it that already remind me of Saddux like the in the movement. Like it's really cool.
01:26:51
Speaker
It's built on so many different styles of platforming. It feels almost as acrobatic, I guess is a good way to put it, as SA2. That's kind of what it reminds me of.
01:27:05
Speaker
Yeah, no, it definitely does. I'm excited to eventually get to it when I'm done Final Fantasy VII Rebirth. But we'll be there soon. And I can't wait to play it. I can't wait to see. I can't wait to actually, like, one at a time comes when I'm playing it. So I can actually, like, look at speedruns for this game just to watch and be like, holy fuck, what the fuck are they doing?
01:27:29
Speaker
Mm-hmm like this is already looking wild. Yeah, like this game is definitely gonna get like the following that like spark 3 has a 100% Yeah, like because this is just like the energy that that game radiates Yes, that is the energy that I feel that it has for sure and like we're even getting like rolling rascal as well Which has that same kind of energy?
01:27:54
Speaker
Yeah, so definitely exciting and what you do pick it up I'll definitely come to watch As long as like I have the time to and I'm not solely focused on Final Fantasy 7 Revers No, I hundred percent understand this game is looming over me. I swear to God But oh, yeah, I'm just here shooting my myself in the head to summon my my inner self
01:28:19
Speaker
Yeah, well, I want to be riding a choco bow breeding choco bow for races and playing Queens gambit It should just yeah give us triple triad. Honestly, I'm gonna say that. Oh my god Yeah, listen, I'm I love triple triple triads great We'll probably get a triple try it a bit later before we continue but toys or anything else you want to add about sonic speedruns. Oh
01:28:44
Speaker
So, uh, watch Sacer. Sacer underscore events. Go watch Sacer, because they're always doing something for the Sonic Adventure era of speedrunning games. Which is Sonic Adventure DX, Sonic Adventure 2, Sonic Heroes, Shadow the Hedgehog, Sonic 06. And this also includes Billy Hatcher, because it's in that era.
01:29:09
Speaker
Oh, yeah, it's not a game in the Sonic Adventure era. So it does count. Billy, I forgot that Sonic Team did Billy Hatcher. That's weird. Like when you think about it. But it's like, yeah, but it's like when you look at it. Oh, yeah. No, there's there's Sonic and one of the eggs. The Sonic Riders count as well as Sonic Riders fall into this as well.
01:29:31
Speaker
Technically, there are special events that they run that do have riders on there. I don't think it's considered like main series in the adventure era stuff, but we do have special events sometimes from what I've seen.
01:29:48
Speaker
Because I was curious about that, because I'm like, oh yeah, I guess Riders falls into the same era too, but it's just like... Yeah, and please, from anybody who runs Sacer, correct me if I'm wrong. I swear I've seen Riders on there. Please, please, please don't shoot. Alrighty, well with that, it's time for us to move on to our second topic of the day.
01:30:09
Speaker
You are getting ready for another night of adventuring with your friends and you realize, wow, I haven't leveled up and it's been two whole sessions. Well, I have the solution for you. Just ask your game master again. Your GM will understand that after a straight RP session and one encounter with a bunch of CR1 goblins, your level eight character needs to be thrown about. Forget about experience point counting or preset milestones that GM had already established.
01:30:37
Speaker
asking your GM again is the tried and true solution that does not come across as annoying at all. So did you level up? Just ask your GM again. Which I'm just calling it the grab bag. It's the toys little grab bag because it's like one better way. These are the games that I play. Yeah. Better way to tackle two other games that the toys been playing. Starting off with the critically acclaimed MMORPG Final Fantasy 14. You started that last summer.
01:31:07
Speaker
How has your time in Eorzea been? So a little bit more lore for you. I did an event over the summer. I don't remember what event it was, but I think it.
01:31:23
Speaker
I think it was Sadix. I want to say it was Sadix. If it wasn't Sadix, it's when I, oh wait, no, no, no, December was when I did Lamian event. But anyway, there was some event that I did and Risu and Glinta commentated for me and Glinta hit me with the, so, Final Fantasy XIV, I'm like, fine.
01:31:48
Speaker
So I ended up doing that starting Final Fantasy XIV and I became obsessed very quickly.
01:31:59
Speaker
I now have over 20 or 22. Yeah, I have way over 22. I have over 200 hours in the game now. Over 220 hours. Not bad. I am well over 1500. Hey, that's OK. But yeah, I I started that and I haven't looked back and I have two characters that I play now. So.
01:32:23
Speaker
So when you started, run me through it, because I vaguely, I remember I found, I'm like, because when I learned you played it, I'm like, okay, I gotta go find my toy. And thankfully, you're on Crystal as I am. You're on Balmung though. I am, I am on Balmung, yeah.
01:32:43
Speaker
You've heard the story. I'm on Balmain and my other character's on Diablos. Hey, wait, actually? Yeah, my other character's on Diablos. Hell, okay, I gotta find, when you're on your other character, you gotta let me know so I can find you. Mm-hmm. Her name is Cybri Ayanami, for those wondering. Hell yeah. I definitely don't know where those influences come from.
01:33:06
Speaker
So when you first got into 14, what race, what class did you go with? And did you know when you were joining Balmain? Did you know of the extensive history Balmain has with extreme raid progression?
01:33:21
Speaker
Oh, I did not at the time, but my God. But yeah, I started out my first character, Aiza Xiamto, which Xiamto is a for the Kingdom Hearts fans out there. It's a nobody amalgamation version of the word matai with the X in it. Oh, OK. So that's who is Xiamto is.
01:33:51
Speaker
So Aiza Xionto, who started out as Gladiator, now Paladin.
01:34:01
Speaker
What should we call it? And it's the class, that's the cat class that I cannot pronounce still. Mikote, thank you. That's the class I started with. I eventually did transition to Viera, so. Oh, okay. So now he is a bun. He woke up one day and was a bun and he was like, yes. And he popped off so hard that the hotel manager kicked him out. He was kicked out because he screamed realizing they could no longer wear a hat.
01:34:30
Speaker
Yeah, he also didn't look like his adventure plate anymore, so they were just like, what the hell? And they kicked him out. That too. I love when it's like, you use a Fantasia and you know, it's like everything's looking good and then you go, you're like examining adventure plates. Oh yeah, I should probably look at my adventure plate. Oh God, I'm still a cat.
01:34:50
Speaker
yeah they eventually let him back in but they were like no don't look anything like the get out of my get out of here we were stationed at the new gurdonia uh hotel and the roost yeah and we just couldn't stay there because they were just like you don't look anything like this get out of here so how far how far in the msq are you
01:35:15
Speaker
So I'm still working my way through. I got through all of A Realm Reborn. I'm pretty much right before... What's the second expansion, Heaven's War? I actually don't remember. Heaven's War, okay. So I'm literally right before that. Okay, so you haven't actually got into Heaven's War yet, so you're just like... Not quite. We are getting there, though. Okay. Okay, what were your overall thoughts on base A Realm Reborn? Everything up to the ultimate weapon?
01:35:42
Speaker
So I actually really do like the story and characters. A lot of them are really intriguing, have their own like have their own struggles, of course, like you do in every story. But I really like the twins. The twins are really funny. Like they're kind of the ones who are already against the norm as well, which is really cool. Like they're the one who is like judging all the oh, every group is having this whole
01:36:09
Speaker
You know, the whole shtick about, oh, this is how many soldiers we lost and all that. And they're just like, what a bunch of bullshit and all that. And because they're not mentioned in everything, there's nothing about the warriors of light. So they're just like up in arms for like half the game until they finally like collaborate with them and.
01:36:27
Speaker
Everybody understands each other's perspective and everything. Yeah, it's like mostly mostly Alfino because for a realm of born Yes, basically just dealing with Alfino until you do The coils have you done the coil up? Okay. Uh, yes Yes, yes, what what'd you think of the coils? That was interesting like so to speak like I'm trying to remember this too because I finished this back in like uh, I
01:36:55
Speaker
October or something. So I'm like, oh, oh my gosh. It's a lot of little things to remember because this game has a lot. And I've been doing a lot of side content too. Like I haven't even strictly been doing MSQs, but I've been doing a lot of just everything else.
01:37:13
Speaker
Don't get me started on the toy. I'm gonna tell you something. So I was the guy where I played through the MSQ. I did every side quest as it came available. Every single side quest.
01:37:32
Speaker
By the time, like, I talked to Argyck when I brought him on the podcast, because that was like, that was probably when I was like getting into the final phase. He does. I was talking to him about it and I said, it's like, what my friends told me is like, with where I am in Heaven's War at that moment, I should probably be in Stormblood because I do every side quest and even Argyck said, yeah, you should probably do the MSQ, but like, but side content.
01:38:02
Speaker
Belt. I have done like as of now, I can firmly say that the only side quests I have left are.
01:38:13
Speaker
The four of four of the five are realm reborn beast tribes because the eggs all are crafters and I did all of them because I needed to power level some crafters. Class quests that I have not touched yet because there are certain class. All the classes are level 30 at least. Oh, yeah. But it's like I still got to level up a lot of them and do them.
01:38:37
Speaker
Did do a few the the all the heavens were beast tribes two of the stormblood beast tribes One of the endwalker beast tribes could I finish all the shadow bringer ones? nice Eureka which you'll learn about Eureka when you get the storm blood and how much it sucks. Oh boy And Baja which you'll learn about in shadow bringers and how much it kind of is Middle you'll either love or hate Baja Eureka sucks. Oh
01:39:07
Speaker
Fun. Fun, fun, fun. And then Island Sanctuary, which is... I got a... That's daunting when I finally get to that. That's all the side content that I have left. Because I just recently... I've recently just finished leveling all my crafters. I am now officially an omni-crafter. I even have my crafting mentor crown.
01:39:30
Speaker
Yo, that's how that's how much that's done. See? Yeah. OK, I'm looking at my checklist. Baja Eureka, all of my blue mage spells and class, all of my battle classes, getting them to 90. The island sanctuary. Oh, yeah. I got to eat and savage, but that's. Oh, yeah. Suddenly now your your discord caption makes so much more sense by questing way. Yes.
01:39:58
Speaker
Yeah. I mean, I mean, how much do you know where the way comes from? Uh... Not off the top of my head. Okay, okay. You'll learn that in Endwalker when you get there. Okay. You'll understand it even more once you reach Endwalker.
01:40:14
Speaker
okay yeah that makes sense um but yeah that's that's where i'm at like i am at the point where it's like i do my roulette daily just to feel something yeah that's that's fair um there it's funny there was a time like um i'm still getting used to like the nerves and stuff because i don't like
01:40:36
Speaker
Final Fantasy XIV is the first MMO I've picked up since, funny enough, Toontown, that I played in 2021 when I picked that up. Or was it 2020? Might have been 2020 when I picked that up. I don't remember. It was one of those two. But the only difference is Toontown is turn-based, so you have to worry about less. But the other thing is,
01:41:04
Speaker
There was a time when I was, I was a little impaired, let's say, and I was just playing, you know, like not thinking about too much. I was playing, I was listening to the music. I queued up for a daily and I thought I queued up for a, oh my God, what was it? One of those quests that like, they take like a minute. Oh, a guild test? Thank you, yes. Yeah, guild heist. I thought that's what I did.
01:41:31
Speaker
And no, I queued up for a dungeon and I'm like, oh shit, okay. So I'm going through and at the end of it, like, they were just like, damn, Cyber, you did some great tanking. And I'm just sitting here like, did I?
01:41:51
Speaker
Are you sure? Like, I felt like I didn't know what I was doing half the time because I accidentally queued into a dungeon. I mean, a good tank is determined by two things. Did you turn your stance on? Yeah, that's true. I did do that. Did you pull good?
01:42:09
Speaker
I mean, I guess so. I honestly don't really remember too much. With a realm of born dungeons, you don't really have to do like pulls are pretty easy where you just pull the enemies. If you're feeling a little saucy, you maybe go to the second batch of enemies. You're like, oh my God, they just ran in. Once you're in Shadowbringers, even like light storm blood stuff, you're doing wall to wall pulls like. Yeah, that's true. Yeah, because basically like I was just going in and I'm like, OK, well,
01:42:37
Speaker
like wall to wall falls to the balls all yeah falls to the balls falls to the balls yeah my balls were still intact when i got out of the dungeon so i guess i did tank right i can't wait i can't wait for you to experience thaws balls
01:42:53
Speaker
Oh my god. I already... Is it better than Kain Mog? Kain Mughal Mog? Kain Mughal Mog. I will say this. Good Kain Mughal Mog. The 14th. He is like, synced. He is the worst fight in Arelva-born.
01:43:13
Speaker
Really think it is the worst fight his extreme is the worst fight sinks in a realm of war This is a good sign to mention that we went in the not synced so it lasted like five seconds Yeah, yeah, that's why do you think everybody? Everybody does bogglebog unsynced because it is the worst fight to do synced in a realm of board I guess I owe it I did the do it on six sure to do it sink the ones I
01:43:41
Speaker
I mean, yeah, I mean, it's all right. Like the normals find things, but the extreme synced. I mean, no one does extreme AR synced anymore. No, that's pointless. They just they do it on synced. They do the the main six primals and they hope to get a horse. Yeah, that's true. Get a haunts. Get a haunts each with a different name. And sometimes you'll get nightmare.
01:44:08
Speaker
Oh, nightmare haunts. Nightmare haunts. Only drops in Egypt. The dark horse. The dark horse. I have all the horses. I have each of the horses that drop from the main six. I have nightmare. I have the unicorn. I just got the pay. And I have the glowing horse that you get with three lines of bingo, which you can't do yet because you're not in heaven's word.
01:44:29
Speaker
That's okay, don't worry. Oh, I should mention, I've put like six hours into Triple Triad probably as a collective so far, because I love Triple Triad. Okay, since you love Triple Triad, I'm gonna tell you this right now. If you collect every card up to the end of Shadowbringers, you will receive a giant card mount.
01:44:51
Speaker
Oh, that sounds so bass. Yeah, it's I believe it's 312. But you need that you need. I'm working on it slowly. I have every I have every ARR card. I'm working on my Heaven's Ward cards. I just got to do a couple duties to get the last cards and I got to level up.
01:45:14
Speaker
one of the beast tribes to duel one person who will give me that a card. Because some cards are locked behind doing beast tribes. Oh, yeah. Or doing certain quests or getting to certain like, I'm going to tell you this. So have you done Palace of the Dead at all? I think so. That sounds familiar. That's the deep dungeon where you do ten floors and you go down every ten floors and there's like there's two hundred floors of it.
01:45:44
Speaker
Oh, no, I haven't done that. OK, when you eventually do Palace of the Dead, because it's cool content, it's. Yeah, I love stuff like that because like, I love it. Like, it reminds me of like, Paper Mario Thousand Year Door is a bit of a hundred trials. Yeah, it's very much like that. You would you could do it solo or you could do it with a party of like two, three, four. If you do it solo and you get all the way to four, two hundred, you get the Necromancer title. It's a whole big deal.
01:46:12
Speaker
I mean, back at. Oh, imagine you get good experience out of it, too. Not really. No. Oh, really? You don't you don't use it to farm experience, really. Right. Like maybe doing floors 50 to 60, like through the just the part just through the quick, quick finder that it has for deep dungeons. You can get a little bit of experience for a class, but really, it's not the best way. It's not the best way to get grind experience.
01:46:42
Speaker
That's that's that's good to know for sure it because it's also because palace caps at 60 So oh that makes sense. Okay, and then if you do the second one heaven on high which is in storm blood that caps at 70 right or it only comes that's valid caps that 80 and then the last one Eureka orthos which was added in and Walker caps at 90 and
01:47:09
Speaker
Okay, so that's like the the big one. Yeah, I think or it's like that one Casa 70 it caps. I can't really remember I just did a Rika orthos and got my 30 floor clear recently Of the 100, but you only need to do 30 for like a quest thing and unlock things So I'm like I'll do the last floors later if you want to see more like like top tier um
01:47:31
Speaker
Deep Dungeoning. Angela Stomonas was on GDQ. Oh, when was it? Last year, I think at summer games done quick and speed ran 10 floors, mouseless.
01:47:51
Speaker
No, mouse. Oh, my God. Yeah. So you can definitely definitely check it out if you want to get into deep dungeons and like see like the deep dungeon experience. Yeah, that sounds really cool. But like there's like triple triad cards that are locked behind like things like that or yeah, it makes Eureka and Baja when you get to those, there are cards that are locked behind that and like.
01:48:16
Speaker
Beach tribes all that stuff. There's cards locked behind a lot of things, but it's it's definitely cool still to like It's Jim will try it's one of those fun time killers in the game. Yeah, it sounds about it Lastly I want to ask before we get onto our second part of your grab bag Aside from the twins who is your next favorite character and what's your favorite? dungeon and trial been so far I
01:48:45
Speaker
Okay, so it might be a bit of a normie pick. I really like your shoulder though. She's great. I like your shoulder a lot.
01:48:57
Speaker
Dungeon, listen, I like Prag, okay? I like doing Prag a thousand times. I like Prag. Really, you like Pray? I do, I do, I do like Prag. Give it, like, I'll play Prag a thousand more times. Dude, it's not even glib anymore, though. Gaius doesn't say, how very glib. They killed it! They ruined Praetorium by removing it. It would be really funny if you actually did. Okay, so...
01:49:21
Speaker
This was before both of our times, because I've been playing for now, I've been playing for like two years, three years now. Look, I'm sure he can mod it back here. I mean, there are probably crimes that can't do. Back with the dungeon. So I don't know if you heard the story of what Prey used to be or like what? Um, vaguely, vaguely, but not like full on. Back in the day.
01:49:48
Speaker
Praetorium, Ultimate Weapon, and La Habrea's fight were all one, all in the same instance. All one dungeon, all three of those parts. No, no, no, no, no. That's how it used to be. Yeah, I would like it a lot less had that been a, like, wow. And to make it even better, during the Gaius Elevator speech,
01:50:18
Speaker
When he says, for whom do you fight? You have to select an option of dialogue. Wow. So if somebody doesn't select an option, you're stuck there waiting even longer.
01:50:32
Speaker
You get oh my god, so they could stall yeah, they used to also be an eight person wall like the option came up Yeah, so it was an eight person duty. You would do all a freighterium. There was extra dialogue in there. How very glib ho ho ho And then you would go fight ultimate weapon all those same cutscenes with pleasure in the ultimate weapon trial that it is now and Then it would go into the laha Braille, which is now an instance where you just fight it one-on-one. Oh
01:51:00
Speaker
And Retighted, the Retighted fight used to be an eight person duty, an eight person trial as well, but they just made that an instance because it was like dirt easy with eight people. Yeah, that makes sense. There's some lore for you. It was before my time, too, but right. But that's there's some lore for you about Praetorium.
01:51:23
Speaker
Yeah. Wow. Used to be an hour. It changed a lot. Used to be an hour it took. Whatever you got that. And now it's just like 30. I mean like 20 plus minutes, 30 plus minutes on a good prey run, honestly. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. That's about right. Okay. What about favorite trial? We got your dungeon. What about favorite trial so far? Oh gosh. I wasn't as prepared for this question. You've only done ARR. There's not that many to pick from. There's like,
01:51:53
Speaker
nine, 10, there's like 10, unless you've done a relic weapon, in which case there's like 12, but like the relic weapon won't still count. Sheesh. I, hmm. I don't know, honestly. Like I haven't, uh,
01:52:11
Speaker
Yeah, you got Efrit, Garuda, Titan. Oh, yeah, because, like, yeah, I'm like looking at like I brought the list just so I could see it. But there was one that I liked. Who am I missing of this? Let me see. Yeah, it was Garuda. OK, yeah, I just couldn't remember if it was if it was that one I was thinking of or not. But yeah, Garuda was fun. Garuda is all right. I'm a fan of I like Odin's, honestly, of like a realm of borns. Odin's is probably my favorite.
01:52:42
Speaker
Oh yeah. I haven't done that one myself yet, of course. It's locked behind a blue quest. You go fight him. You'll fight him unsynced because nobody queues for Earth's fount. So you'll end up doing it unsynced. He'll cut you. You'll get a helmet. It's cool. His horse, Odin's horse, is available on the Mog station.
01:53:05
Speaker
And that's really cool. That's like Odin's Mount. Good King Mogglemogg's Mount is the fat moogle on the mogg station because you use that. I love that. Good King Mogglemogg's song. That's amazing.
01:53:19
Speaker
Like, that song also sounds so strikingly similar to This Is Halloween. Yes, it does! Like I first heard it and I'm just like, am I a Nightmare Before Christmas? Yeah. Am I in Halloween Town? Is this Kingdom Hearts? The Nightmare Before Bogmas. Can you imagine? You go back to Halloween Town in Kingdom Hearts 4 and you fight King Mog? Oh my god.
01:53:44
Speaker
So it's like, what? That's not Lock, Shock, and Barrel. That's not, that's not... Yoshi P, what are you doing in Kingdom Hearts? Yeah, right, he's his own character. Damn you, Yumdabora, how could you do this to us? He's his own character, and K-Mogg is there, and it's like, okay, cool. This is what we're fighting, it was actually just a giant heartless.
01:54:09
Speaker
Oh, God. Oh, that'd be so funny. But yeah, I'm excited for what you get into Heaven's War and you get to experience all of that. Oh, yeah. I'll be more knowledgeable with things, too. I will say the other thing I got really, really into was fishing to the point where I'm more leveled up fishing than I am paladin right now. I mean, fishing is great. There are fisher mains out there. Ocean fishing is great.
01:54:33
Speaker
I'm gonna be fishing connoisseur. What level is your Fisher if I may ask right now? I think there because I don't have anything maxed right now like Because I I've been switching between both characters like here and there and I don't get a ton of time to play But what I do I try to go ham
01:54:51
Speaker
My Fisher I think is at level 64 and my my my palette is still like 58 right now or something. That's fine I would recommend grabbing a second job to like just like level for like alt experience because 100%
01:55:09
Speaker
Whereas you're gaining experience that will go to waste if you keep doing one class. I learned that the hard way. During my Endwalker playthrough, all of my main and side classes maxed out on experience that I'm like, oh, I have to go level up.
01:55:29
Speaker
Oh, which one was it that I had to go level up to then do? I had to level up samurai because I'm like, oh, yeah, I need another class to put MSQ experience into because I'm getting MSQ experience. So I literally paused MSQ for like a week to level up samurai today. That's good. Yeah, that's cute. And not waste the experience while still doing every one of the same thing for the red mage.
01:55:57
Speaker
Red Mage is fun. I maxed Red Mage. Red Mage is a fun class. It is. I've only messed with it a little bit, but it's so fun. Have you touched Blue Mage at all?
01:56:07
Speaker
I have not. You gotta touch, you gotta get into Blue Mage. Blue Mage sounds fun too though. Blue Mage is great. It's the all, it's the, it's the one class that like, you can't use it in normal content unless everyone's a Blue Mage. Right. But you let enemies attack you really hard and then you gain their spells and then you explode on them and hit the nae nae except you're dead so you can't really hit the nae nae because you exploded.
01:56:34
Speaker
Oh my god. That sounds awesome. It's great. Blue Mage is great. It's side quests. The whole Blue Mage experience is a cool experience. But I think that's enough Final Fantasy talk, otherwise we will be here all day. That's true.

Yakuza Series Exploration

01:56:51
Speaker
Moving on to the second one, which is another topic I could talk about all day. Yakuza!
01:56:58
Speaker
You have finally begun your long Yakuza journey. You're starting with Yakuza Zero. So how is Yakuza Zero so far? What chapter are you on? Well, okay, so... Because I need to know how much I can talk about Zero. We are on... I'm also realizing how long Zero is compared to Kiwami 1 and 2. Yeah, Zero is much longer.
01:57:26
Speaker
Because I'm like, I think I'm about 20 hours in? And I'm on chapter 5. Yeah, that's about right. Yeah, so my god, a lot of my surprise has to do right now with Majima. I'm in a moral dilemma whether I should like him or not.
01:57:45
Speaker
He is in the way that chapter four ended. The answer is yes. Like Majima. Majima is like the best Yakuza character ever. Listen, I do. I do. Like unironically, I do like Majima a lot. And it's like because of Bagfest happened in January. So I have a lot of inspiration for like cosplay Majima as well. So that might be a thing that will happen in the future.
01:58:09
Speaker
because it kind of had the natural hair for it too. So, you know, just saying.
01:58:19
Speaker
But it's been really fun so far. I really enjoy the combat. The controls took me a little bit to get used to because they're not tank controls, but they're like startup controls. Like you don't immediately start dashing when you hold up on the analog stick or anything. That changes with games that utilize the Dragon Engine. So Kawami 2.6, the judgments and guidance.
01:58:42
Speaker
Yes. From what I understand, that works like a tad bit different, but better. It's much better. Like when you play like the shame is like when you play the games in order of doing zero, Kalani one, Kalani two and the jump from. Yeah, I know there's like at one point there's like a decade gap like the jump from Kalani two to three is such a gap that it's like, whoa,
01:59:07
Speaker
yeah whoa it's gonna feel way different but um it's still gonna be enjoyable from what i understand because um the way that uh i was talking about it i was talking to resu about it because like that was one of the main reasons that i wanted to pick up these games i wanted to know why it's so important
01:59:26
Speaker
Um, was like, it's, it's not in that same vein of kingdom hearts where you play, like with kingdom hearts, you play all the games in order of release because anybody who has played birth by sleep first, I'm sorry. I'm so sorry that y'all did that. That's bad. Kingdom hearts, you do it order of, you have to do an order of release because otherwise you will not understand. Yeah. Yeah.
01:59:52
Speaker
You don't do it in a time of order. It's okay, H1. Do not start with Birth by Sleep. I know it's a prequel, but you'll be confused. Like, you'll be so confused. Oh, yeah. But with these games, like, I go from, like, Zero, the Kiwami games, 3, 4, 5, 6, Like a Dragon, and Gaiden, and Infinite Wealth. Yep. And then the Judgment games in there as well, because
02:00:14
Speaker
They're those are they're just genuinely great games the judgment I'm gonna have those as I'm gonna have those a certain goal So if you want to see me play the judgment games, you know consider something anyway So scrabble this are Yeah, yeah, so he can play so they can play judgment and also Lost judgment lost judgment. Are you gonna play? He should
02:00:42
Speaker
Um, that will probably be another one, but, but not at the, uh, not, not, not at this current moment in time. Okay. Good to know. Eshin's honestly, it's a give or take. Like you either will, it's, it's, it's all right. Like that's my opinion on Eshin, honest, after playing it for the first time when they ported it to the West. It's all right. Yeah. I've heard like mixed things about Eshin.
02:01:11
Speaker
It's a cool little history piece with the Yakuza characters playing actual historic people. But that's really about it. That's about all it really is. It's cool.
02:01:27
Speaker
It's pretty cool. It's pretty cool. If you want to see Kiryu kill people, that's the game to play. Except he's not. OK, except he's not Kiryu. He's Ryuji Sakamoto. No, not Ryuji Sakamoto. That's like him. That's Persona 5. Like a dragon. Yeah, remember when fucking Ryuji shows up and y'all get to zero? That's crazy. Ryoma Sakamoto. That's his name. Ryoma Sakamoto.
02:01:59
Speaker
Oh my god. Yeah. So the Yakuza Zero experience, how you've been enjoying it. Who are your favorite characters that aren't the protagonists? Oh my gosh. There's like, there's a decent amount to choose from for sure. If you're in chapter five, that means you got most of the characters introduced to you by this point.
02:02:27
Speaker
Yeah, I guess I still really like Nishki. Nishki is great. Nishki is really great. He shows up less now for reasons that those who've played would know. But yeah, he's really fun. Oh my God, there was somebody else. There was one that I did with a side quest where she is trying
02:02:57
Speaker
She's trying so hard to be an archetype that she isn't. And her character was really funny because you can tell it's just it's just all a part. Like she's just like I and at the end of the psych where she's just like, thanks, Kitty. Now I can dumb people. And I'm like, well, I know exactly. I know the side. I know the sub story. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
02:03:21
Speaker
Yep. Oh, yeah. Yeah, that was that was a very interesting thing because it was the second time on stream I would I had to put out a PSA that was like, listen, this is not a fucking reflection of the streamer. This is in game.
02:03:40
Speaker
The second time I had this... It's really impressive that one game had to have me say the same PSA two times. Like, that's crazy. Like... I had to say it in, like, chapter two. I'm like, why are we... What... Oh, yeah. Oh, my God. Which of the three Dojima lieutenants do you like the most? Kuze, Awano, or Shibasala?
02:04:09
Speaker
Oh, my gosh, I think. Hold on, let me look them up because I have like I have their faces in my brain. Who's the one that you punch the most? Awano is the one in the purple jacket. And she saw was the quiet one. She saw, I think, because even though he's like. He's the one, I think that's the like funny enough, he's like the most understanding one like.
02:04:39
Speaker
like throughout the whole thing like even though he's kind of on the like kitty or pain in the ass because he causes a lot of headache uh he also doesn't like truly believe that like he legitimately thinks that uh like he is being framed so like you know at least that's the perspective that i got okay okay
02:05:02
Speaker
So that's like really cool. We don't see much of them, though, is the thing as of yet. So that could very much change in like the next few hours. Yeah, I will say this about zero zero has the most like because of where zero was released because it came out after five. It has the most like references to the series where a lot of the sub stories is a lot of characters you'll meet in the future are right. Some stories like.
02:05:32
Speaker
There's a sub story where you meet your chairman's kid. Oh, OK. I don't remember when that one pops. And then there's one where I believe it's.
02:05:44
Speaker
Majima has to fight this young blonde punk Whose name I will not say because you'll if you That's another question. I have are you planning to do every single sub story with every game?
02:06:05
Speaker
Um, I'm kind of undecided on it yet because Like the way I'm thinking about it is it is gonna take so much longer, but it might be worth it I will say if you do decide to do every sub story You unlock the secret boss fight That is in every single Yakuza game
02:06:26
Speaker
Oh shit, okay, I might have to. I'm a sucker for that shit. I play KH. There is a secret boss. All it takes is doing every sub story. Now, some sub stories are locked behind certain minigames. With Zero, the minigames that are most affected is pocket circuits, which great minigame to play through.
02:06:48
Speaker
I've heard good things. And then the main two money-making minigames, which I don't think you've unlocked yet, but there's one for Majima, which is the better one of the two, and then Kiryu's, which is just... If you've watched Dunkey's Yakuza 0 video, it's show me the money! Or you just go to businesses, buy them, and then you just wait for them to generate income over time.
02:07:14
Speaker
That's amazing. Yeah, this is more involved and the whole sit here in the Sega arcade while I wait oh God that reminds me of Sega arcade and kawaii one. Oh God in another mini game. You'll okay. I'll save that for when you'll get there cuz there's oh But basically if you do every sub story you'll get a secret boss fight With each character so here you will have one in Majima will have one
02:07:43
Speaker
And then each game onwards, so Konami 1, there's a boss fight, Konami 2, there's a boss fight, 3, there's a boss fight, 4, there's 4 boss fights because you play as 4 characters. Okay, if that makes sense. 5, there's 5 boss fights, 4 as the 4 fighters, and then a dance battle for the 5th.
02:08:03
Speaker
Uh, holy shit. Oh, five, five is I love and hate five at the same time. Five is probably one of the best stories in my opinion for the game. I've heard that a lot. Yeah. It's just really, really, really, really like if you think zero is long, five is longer. Oh boy. Five is probably a bit before we get there, but it'll be fine. It's probably the longest of the main line games. Jeez.
02:08:32
Speaker
Yeah, I imagine until we get to, because I saw how fucking big it is, uh, until we get to Gaiden in Infinite Wealth, because those games are... Oh, Gaiden's short. Gaiden is so short. Wait, really? The ones with the, like, 80 gigs? No, Gaiden, you... Because Gaiden takes place only in Sotenbori.
02:08:51
Speaker
OK, you're only in Sotenborian. There's like one other location you go to. But like that's all there. All that's on the other location is the Coliseum. And I'm so curious why it's such a huge game. Probably in terms of cut scenes and shit. Like really, it's shorter. Like it's maybe if you do everything like.
02:09:14
Speaker
because like I was looking at like the install and I'm like holy fuck guidance not that bad infinite wealth yeah because if it it was like a 75 hour game mm-hmm and I heard that like infinite wealth has also like these side games that I've heard that are like incredible incredible infinite wealth has you become an uber driver except you're not a driver you're a bicycle
02:09:35
Speaker
You're an uber? You're an uber? I didn't know about the Animal Crossing thing and the Pokemon thing. I didn't know about the uber thing. Okay, so yeah, you're an uber bicycle driver, an uber bicycle delivery boy who does tricks.
02:09:48
Speaker
Deliver food boy on m64. Yeah, you do tricks to get a better tip and you also So it's BMX. Oh, yeah, and then you can also write up a building as a super It's holy shit. It comes full circle. It's like the Eiffel Tower thing again. Yeah, you got that you have that's only one of the many games there's a photographic mini game where you photograph a bunch of people that gimp masks and
02:10:12
Speaker
Pokemon Snap. Yeah, you have Gimpemon Snap. You have obviously the Pokemon minigame, which is the Tsujiman stuff. You have Dondoko Island, which is the Animal Crossing stuff. A lot of the old minigames from Like a Dragon are there as well on the Yokohama side of things.
02:10:33
Speaker
Um, I'm gonna be stuck in side content forever on stream when I eventually play that like we're gonna be on infinite wealth part 52 where Episode it's like 14 episode 40 something. They're all side content. Yeah. Oh, yeah that there's like there's like, oh, yeah Go collect these dialogue bubbles to go improve your friendship with everybody just so that way they get special abilities Yeah, they have social links. Yeah, except it's like except it's a bingo card
02:11:03
Speaker
What? Yeah. So it's like if you collect like social links and like what not, you'll get more experience by completing the bingo lines, but it's like all the same. Oh, it's great. It's it's so great. What has been your least favorite mini game in Yakuza? Uh, it's I'm like, okay. I'm like, he's going to go. You're going to get, they're going to go with one or two things either. Uh-huh. Or shogi.
02:11:33
Speaker
I haven't played shogi yet. Okay, you haven't played shogi yet shogi It's like chess, but worse Oh god, how could you get wait? Because so it like chess has like an enjoyment factor to it. How do you get chess, but worse? So in the early game in the earlier games, so zero kawami three four and five
02:11:59
Speaker
Mm hmm. There's not a lot of like visual help with show. Oh, OK. So it's only the Japanese characters on the pieces. Like obviously you can tell what the pawns are. Yeah. But you got it. Shogi has, I believe it's rook, gold, silver knights, bishops, the king and queen.
02:12:19
Speaker
Oh, OK. Yeah, it's like it's just like a lot more pieces. You don't know what the pieces are. Some of the pieces are. There's a take a take back system. There's a lot of other like elements to show you that's just like. Yeah, that checks. Like the Shogi challenges are fine because you just YouTube how to do those and you get free currency to use on whatever. OK. So interesting. Yeah, but my job. Yeah, no, my job sucks.
02:12:50
Speaker
reaching mahjong sucks and they have it in both yakuza and final fantasy fantasy 14 beautiful and i've suffered through the final fantasy 14 mahjong youtube video on my channel to watch me and the boys play mahjong and mahjong night you too can experience mahjong night in canada
02:13:20
Speaker
Beautiful. We're on a trip to Toronto. We're going on your mounts. Get on your goose mount and fly to Toronto. It's a play mahjong, ladies and gentlemen. Oh my God. The amount of fitting it would be because like the FC we're in, I think that's what they're called, right? Yeah. Free company. Yeah. Okay. The FC we're in were the Turks.
02:13:48
Speaker
Oh, nice. And imagine we just all have fucking goose mounts, like, because we have one silly goose on the FC. You have one. Yeah. Holy shit. You just see, like, all these goose mounts running down the fucking hill. Going to Toronto. We're going to Toronto. Getting us some double doubles.
02:14:13
Speaker
Give us some honks. Give us some honks while we drink our double. It's just a joke about me, but it's just honks. Honk, honk, honk, honk. Honk, honk, honk, honk, honk. Honk, honk, honk, honk, honk. Is there anything else you want to add to the toy or should we head on into the bonus level and wrap things up?

Conclusion and Reflections

02:14:42
Speaker
I.
02:14:44
Speaker
I hope I get an axolotl from the grabby machine in the Sega arcade. Oh, okay. I was like, oh God, I thought you were about to say 14 because there is an axolotl now. It's locked behind the hardest content of Pandemonium 12 Savage. God, no thanks. I'll stick to the grab machine in Yakuza 0. Sounds good. With that, we're moving on to the bonus level.
02:15:13
Speaker
crazy lists, great deals, and recapping gaming history. It's all here in the bonus level. Starting off with this week in gaming history from March 11th to 22nd, here's what happened in the past. Major event-wise, on the 13th of 2006, Nintendo's Shigeru Miyamoto is honored as a Knight of Arts and Literature by France's Minister of Culture. On the 14th of 2002, Microsoft released the Xbox in Europe.
02:15:43
Speaker
And on the 22nd in 1988, Howard Lincoln and Minoru Arikala of Nintendo signed a contract with representatives of Electro-Norg-Technica of the USSR for worldwide home video game rights to the game Tetris, and this had a movie about it. I don't remember what the movie's called. Indeed? It did. And I know that because TikTok algorithm likes to recommend me random movie clips.
02:16:11
Speaker
Okay That I can't remember what the actually working in a good favor I care what it's called, but there is a movie go. It's a pretty good movie I've heard Check it out game birthday wise March 12th 2000 2003 Sonic advanced 2 is now legally able to drink in America. Oh my god, that's wild. Oh
02:16:34
Speaker
So I convinced you could drink. Yeah, that's my favorite advanced game, too I love song events to March 15th 2011 no comedy didn't turns 13 That's the DS Okami sequel sheesh March 16th 2006 Final Fantasy 12 in Japan that turn so based 18 that could drink in Canada
02:16:57
Speaker
No, true. Sonic Drift to March 17th, 1995. That is almost 30 years old is 29 this year. Let's send Sonic Drift, baby. That's good. We played it on stream for a bit like several times. It's it's so funny. March 17th, 2003. Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire also 21. Yes.
02:17:25
Speaker
I can hear the trumpets right now. Like, Hoenn fans. Hoenn fans, now's your time. May is now an adult. That's what I'm gonna say. Oh my god. Oh my god.
02:17:37
Speaker
That just means she can drink. Don't worry about it. It does. She can drink. Uh, don't drink and drive. She can drink. She can have the funny pokey juice and then... She can have the funny pokey juice and smoke on that slowpoke panel. Yeah, and then her Blaziken has to bring her home because she doesn't have enough for the Uber driver. She lost all her money to Brandon. Like Blaziken just gets back and it's Pokeball, and she's like, again? Like, fuck! Fuck! Third time this week!
02:18:07
Speaker
March 20th 2006 Elder Scrolls 4 Oblivion Also 18 and March 22nd 2004 Pokemon Coliseum turning a nice and even 20
02:18:20
Speaker
I love Wes. He's cool. Yes, baby. It's cool. 20 years of one of the dark Pokemon games. Maybe maybe 20 years of Coliseum will be enough for the Nintendo Switch to put GameCube game. No, NSO NSO GameCube Pokemon Coliseum eyeball emoji. XD Gale of Darkness. I emoji eyes emoji. Even I meant to just one eye. Just one eye. Exactly. You know, that's how I was feeling, too.
02:18:50
Speaker
That's gaming history. Moving on to top five, we brought it back. Top five statics levels, Matoi. Ooh, okay. So Sonic goes to every single one except for Hot Shelter, and Hot Shelter's great. It has a lot of long paths, and I'm kind of surprised they didn't optimize it for Sonic because it has a lot of long paths.
02:19:12
Speaker
like that you can kind of run around in. So shout out to Sora for making that possible in the randomizer because it makes sense. But Hot Shelter is probably one because there's a lot of cool stuff, a lot of cool tech you can do in Hot Shelter between Amy and Gamma in particular. And it has like the fastest froggy catch that you can do. So froggy, you're right underneath.
02:19:38
Speaker
Oh my god. So Hot Shelter, Final Egg probably because Final Egg is a lot of cool stuff with both Sonic and Amy. You can literally skip the entirety of Act 3 with Sonic, so really, really cool. Keep in mind, the top five is obviously taking into account speedrunning because hello, decade-old Sadex runner here.
02:20:04
Speaker
Let's see, Twinkle Park, I think, Twinkle Park has so much cool tech as Sonic and Amy as well. Again, you can literally skip everything in Amy's Twinkle Park with Castle Skip. So, like, you don't have to touch the mirror room once, like, or do act one second portion at all. Like, it's really cool. Yeah. And then Twinkle Park, not to be confused with his Midwestern counterpart, Twinkie Park.
02:20:32
Speaker
Yes, exactly. Different theme song too. One talks about getting fried, one is just a bop. Oh my gosh. But yeah, you have a track skip in the Twinkle Circuit portion of Twinkle Park in Act 1, and then roller coaster skip, which skips the entirety of Act 2, and it's really cool when you hit it.
02:20:57
Speaker
Even if you don't hit it, you get a backup for it. You just hop off of the roller coaster when it's done and then just go to the end. It's great. And then for the fourth one, Ice Cap, I think. Ice Cap, you really only go to as Sonic and Big. Oh, and Tails, I forgot. Tails does snowboarding section. Tails actually does snowboarding.
02:21:18
Speaker
Yeah, both of which have skips too. I think, in my opinion, it's Big's trickiest one. Froggy has a really weird pattern there, but Sonic has one of the biggest skips in his run, not just the door skip in Act 2, but he literally can skip the snowboard section completely and just fall to the end of the stage.
02:21:40
Speaker
by dodging a bunch of kill planes. It's really cool. Really cool to see. And Tails also has some clips where on the snowboard he can clip through a wall and then clip through another wall and then suddenly you're near the end. So cool stuff there. And then I guess the fifth one. Oh, the fifth one's really hard, actually.
02:22:02
Speaker
Yeah, because there's a lot of cool ones. I did say four, right, at this point? Okay. So I guess it's the one that got a lot of people into speedrunning to begin with, this game in particular, and that's Casino.
02:22:18
Speaker
Because Casino has really cool, just quick clips in both Sonic's version and Tails' version. And the treasure hunting portion is really fun when you get good RNG with Knuckles.
02:22:35
Speaker
personics, you literally just click instead of like getting a single ring, you just clip through the wall onto a bunch of people's loosings and then. Spin desk jump off of their losing pile of coins to the chaos emerald and just win. So it's really fun and then tails in dilapidated away, which is the act two portion of casino that you only see only are required to do with tails.
02:23:06
Speaker
It has a clip right in the beginning where you just fly out of it from a pipe and then fly to the end. So it goes by so quickly, but it's so entertaining the watch because those clips in particular are so precise. So hitting those incredibly quickly is really, really cool to see.
02:23:24
Speaker
Alright moving on to head-to-head two games enter one game leaves bit of a Yakuza theme here because they're both arcade games in Yakuza zero Outrun versus space Harrier. Oh, I'll be honest. I don't know any I don't know either Either game you haven't gone to club Sega
02:23:45
Speaker
Well, I'll wait. Hold on. I played one game. I don't know if it was either of these, to be honest. Let me Google it. Because there's a third one in there as well. I know of Outrun, but that's not the one I played. Was it this one? Yeah, I think it was Space Harrier that I played. Yeah, this was fun. Space Harrier was really fun.
02:24:13
Speaker
All right. I died a bunch, but it was fun. OK, Space Harrier takes it on to Tony's game poll, which is a poll that changes every season that we do this. Today's this season's question. If Kingdom Hearts 4 was to add a Disney slash Pixar world, what would you add? What would the world be? Oh.
02:24:33
Speaker
This is hard. Do I go with my favorite Pixar movie? I might have to. I mean, I guess like a recent one that would be kind of cool would be Elementals.
02:24:44
Speaker
Like I can see that working. You can bring back like the fire and ice Lord and a big heartless and a boss from the Aladdin cage to do something like that. But it's like a bit different like where they could be like just big standard enemies.
02:25:05
Speaker
and then have a boss that's both water and fire or something. So I can see them doing something like that, but one that I think I would actually like is Inside Out. I think that'd be kind of really cool. There's a lot of potential there. We're inside the mind of a child. Yeah, there's a lot of potential. Why is she thinking about the Heartless?
02:25:33
Speaker
yeah right like there's a lot of potential there because it could be like somebody's manipulating her mind too to think of all these negative things which is causing like let's say the unversed to show up for some reason oh even though like i'm not gonna say it here but kingdom hearts three saints just you know
02:25:53
Speaker
There's reasons why that wouldn't happen. But still, yeah, like it'd be like it'd be really cool because the negativity because they're in the person's brain. This is why the unversed are there like.
02:26:05
Speaker
That'd be kind of cool. Okay. Your upcoming deals of the week. Starting off on the Epic's game store, Astro Duel 2 is free until March 14th. On Steam right now, the Saints Row franchise sale is going on until the 14th. And then until the 21st of March, there is a Fatal Frame slash Project Zero sale, the Arc System Works publisher sale, and the Capcom publisher sale as well. Those are all on until March 21st. The achievement of the week
02:26:34
Speaker
is in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth. Expert Exquivator Exqui-vator, if you may. It's just to use a chocobo to find two treasures buried by rabbits. The games of the week are Rise of the Rodent and Star Wars Battlefront Classic Collection. Lastly, the guest game recommendation, Mattoy, if there is one game old or new that you would recommend to the listeners right now, what game would that be?
02:27:03
Speaker
So honestly, I think if
02:27:08
Speaker
I might honestly recommend one that I talked about the last time I was here. If you are a Pokemon fan and you're excited for Legend ZA that is coming, you're doing yourself a disservice if you haven't played Legends RCS yet. Definitely do that because even compared to Scarlet and Violet, it is some of the best fun that I've had in the entire franchise because it's so mechanically different and just
02:27:34
Speaker
It's just so fun, like between the story and the different ways the Pokémon interact with not just each other, but with your character and with the environment is really cool. You get to see them in a very similar manner than you see them to like the anime or Pokémon Snap. So I think that's like a really cool thing.
02:27:55
Speaker
I think, other than that game, try out Penny's Big Breakaway. It's very fun looking. If you like platformers a lot, if you like those old platformers like Banjo-Kazooie and Super Mario Sunshine, I'll say, I think you'll like Penny a lot. Even if you like stuff like Super Lucky's Tale and Klonoa, I think you'll really like this game.
02:28:20
Speaker
If you like Ratatouille, the video game on the Nintendo GameCube, you're gonna love Penny's big breakaway. Oh, yes.
02:28:30
Speaker
I just looked over at my gank cube shelf because it's right next to my desk and I'm like I see it writes itself yeah it just writes itself yeah if you liked uh the Lion King SNES you might like Sonic Mania if you liked Persona 2 eternal punishment you're gonna love Sonic Mania
02:28:57
Speaker
Yes, the two most alike games do exist. The toy, thank you for coming back on. You have now officially joined the two hour club for an episode, which is not a very, it's a very elite club of the Game Lounge podcast.
02:29:17
Speaker
Yeah, you got a lot of cool people on here. So that was them shout outs Yeah, cuz you've reached the two the two the two timer and you've also that reached the two-hour club. It's it's crazy Yeah, it's all kind of wild. I mean we had a lot to talk about we did it was a pleasure being here So we did where can we find you on the internet?
02:29:38

02:30:38

It's just a chicken parm but fried with pepperoni.
02:31:06
Speaker
Yeah, I guess that really is what it is. Mm hmm. That's probably it actually probably is pretty good. Yeah, my friend Lightning has told me that it's it has the approval. Second time wasn't as good, but maybe it's got the first time approval. Got that first time approval. But yeah, Tony's Game Lounge Twitter, Instagram, TikTok, Twitch, YouTube.
