Episode Introduction

00:00:02
Speaker
This week in animation, extra, extra, hear all about it. We got anime, we got Comic Con news, and we got plenty more. Right after these ads, we have no control over her. And now it's time to sing along if you know the words. One, two, three, it's time for animation deliberation. A conversation and a celebration of our favorite action animated series, yeah.

Meet the Hosts

00:00:30
Speaker
Yeah, welcome back to another episode of Animation of Liberation, the podcast where we take action animation and cartoon seriously, but not too seriously. We are your hosts, I am Zuhar Ali. And I am Andrew Rogers. And this is another week of plenty of news for you guys, but first and foremost, how you doing?
00:00:46
Speaker
I'm doing all right. You know, still a little fumbling over my words because I was trying to figure out how to nicely transition from the opening newscaster into singing.

Anime Rewatch Plans

00:00:56
Speaker
And now I'm just too overwhelmed in my head. So I'm ready to just instead talk more anime animation. I've been continuing my rewatch Young Justice, been watching more fun anime, and then it's just, we got news. It's a good down week going into jujitsu Kaisen of like, okay, I can relax a little because I don't know when I'm going to be able to relax again for the next
00:01:16
Speaker
I mean, how long is season two? This is a great question. 20 some episodes? Are they giving us the full? I'm spoiling the news at this point, ladies and gentlemen. Sorry, I did not plan on doing this, but are they giving it to us all at once, I guess, as part of the question? Because, yeah, either way, it's going to be a long drive. Why would they do that? I don't know. Why would they do that? No, that makes no sense. Like, why would animated fandom would be like, you know what, Netflix, here's all the episodes.
00:01:47
Speaker
Well, because we don't like Netflix anymore. They're kicking people like myself off of their parents' account. That's true. But I am the account holder, so I do not have that issue. Lucky. So screw you, moochers.

Spy X Family Teaser Excitement

00:02:03
Speaker
All right, I do have an answer to your Jujutsu Kaisen question, but we will get to that later on because the first thing on our docket today is Spy X Family, Code White. Spy Family has a new trailer, a new teaser trailer along with its release date of December 22nd, 2023. While there's no subtitles to the teaser, seeing the character suit up for action with Anya's delightful voice is more than enough to stir up excitement for this winter.
00:02:31
Speaker
so i actually was able to find a teaser trailer that someone subtitled i don't know how accurate the subtitles are but i did go scouring about so you can attempt to find it but i feel like take it with a grain of salt ladies and gentlemen fair but it looks so fun it's just like they're going on summer vacation and it somehow looks more beautiful than the anime i mean it's a movie budget so i would hope so i guess that makes sense but just like
00:03:01
Speaker
it felt like it was already at too high of a budget for just a little comedy anime. So to suddenly see it at movie budget quality is still extra jarring, especially because so much of it stands out when you get your being an assassin again. It's like, oh, we're being serious, too. Yeah, I'm hoping we get a little more in-depth action sequences with her now, because as much as I love all the Lloyd and Anya stories that we get,
00:03:27
Speaker
She's great in the family setting scenes, but I want to see her isolated more, if that makes sense. Yeah, that's true. I don't even know what this movie is actually to expect because I feel like it's going to be canon-adjacent more than anything.
00:03:48
Speaker
Like probably won't impact the cannon. So they can't give us like deep backstory because then the watchers, the show are going to be confused, but it's still probably going to be something that's like plausible enough that it doesn't impact. Like there's nothing to say. It couldn't happen within the bounds of the ship. Yeah, that's kind of the, the template for anime movies, like it's either directly cannon or just kind of plays with that.
00:04:16
Speaker
Or the entire opposite end of the spectrum, like some... I think Naruto does it, and Dragon Ball Z, and like Seven Deadly, where it's just, oh no, this can't be canon, because that completely gives this character a new power that we never see again, or is never brought up. Or you do a... But then you have the first My Hero Academia, where it's like, this isn't meant to be canon, but we're setting it up to where it could be.
00:04:43
Speaker
Which I like the idea of could be but doesn't need to be. Or just straight. Give us more canon movies. Mugen Train was such a rapid success. Rapid's not the word. Rampant success. Um, like do that with Attack on Titan. Give us like an actual finale movie to watch. Not just like. I think Just the Skies and Zeros is a great other example. And Dragon Ball Super.
00:05:10
Speaker
Yeah, I said something about Dragon Ball. I know it's not all Dragon Ball movies. There's just so many. All Dragon Ball Z movies aren't canon. There you go. Thank you. Dragon Ball Super ones are. OK. All right. So this was supposed to be spy family news. If you guys are excited about that and just excited to see our favorite Forger family come back on screen, let us know with the feedback. But what do you have in your flurry of news that I see here on the docket?

Ruby Gilman Teenage Kraken Release

00:05:38
Speaker
Yes, I have an absolute just smattering of small things that I wanted to bring up and let everyone know about Ruby Gilman Teenage Kraken is releasing this week from DreamWorks in all of the lovely movie theaters. It looks like it's gonna be a fun movie. It's a DreamWorks romp. I think it's just coming out at a really weird time. So seeing marketing for it has been
00:06:02
Speaker
kind of difficult because I feel like the only time I'm seeing marketing is when I'm like actually at the theater to watch any of the other dozen movies that are coming out this month. So just in case anyone was wanting to see it, or it looks like it's going to be much more family oriented, which is awesome. So if you had kids might be a fun movie to take them to. So yeah, just wanted to announce, you know, we're not so biased that we're only going to talk about spider verse and stuff like that, because this movie still looks fun.
00:06:27
Speaker
And I wanted to bring it up, but speaking of movies, the actual action animation that we all love to talk about is they have announced the premiere of Justice League World War World. New animated feature that is lumping into the newer DC animated universe that they're working on is going to be premiering at San Diego Comic Con, which is July 16th through the 19th.
00:06:51
Speaker
So it looks like it's gonna be another interesting one. I mean, the world war world, despite being the hardest thing to say in DC Comics is also one of the most badass and awesome things to see on the screen. And I mean, you're gonna see Superman fighting and just going all out despite not wanting to kill people, which is always the best place to put him. So I think it's gonna be an awesome movie. It's another great one. A lot of the animated movies have been
00:07:17
Speaker
pretty good that have come out recently. I haven't seen all of them, but the couple that I have seen, Battle of the Super Suns, was good. And I didn't mind Legion of Super Heroes as well, so they're just bringing them all in here.

Superman Show Expectations

00:07:30
Speaker
Yeah, super excited for that. Zhu, have you seen any of the newer DC animated ones? I know you're a big fan of the old DC AU.
00:07:37
Speaker
Sadly, I have not and it's just 100% me slacking. But last week we talked about this new Superman show that's going to be hitting Adult Swim and then it was HBO the next day. Very much looking forward to that just because of how they're setting that up.
00:07:58
Speaker
Yeah, I mean, they're doing a lot of good things because that's being set up. And I keep hearing all sorts of rumors fly around about Batman the Caped Crusader, which is no secret to any long term fans of the show. I've been talking about this show since it was announced over two years ago. But Amazon Prime has it in their hands. And the last news was, this is what they wanted to do with Batman, the animated series, but apparently couldn't because it was a children's show. So that gets me amped to see what they do with that show.
00:08:27
Speaker
The fact that it's on Amazon terrifies me. In a good way or a bad way? Invincible way. Yeah, okay. You and I were on the same live line for like, they could do a lot here. Invincible meets the animated series. At the same time, we talk about that. I think my heart could handle that. Think about that last season of Young Justice. Once they were a full HBO Max exclusive show, we got some moments that were gory. It started with season three.
00:08:55
Speaker
when a certain character gets blown up and you see like every bits of his inside and his heart beating live and I'm just like, yeah, no, so well done. It's not it will never quite be invincible level of bad. But gosh, that show is also coming this year at some point. And I still don't know if I'm emotionally prepared. Never will be never will be
00:09:19
Speaker
And then on the heels of more release news and more release news, Crunchyroll came out and announced they have a bunch of things. First and foremost, they released their summer anime calendar. A lot of big notes from people who are fans about great things coming this summer, as well as a bunch of returning things. I know one piece is still ongoing from the spring into the summer. But some of the big names of the 40 anime that they have said are coming
00:09:45
Speaker
And I pulled these from an article because I had to read at least one of them off because it has the best name I've ever heard. But some of these are very excitable. Horiyama, The Missing Pieces is based on a very popular manga, I believe. Mushiyoko, Tensi, Jablis Reincarnation, and the one that made me giggle. Reborn as a vending machine. I now wander the dungeon. I don't know what it is.
00:10:09
Speaker
I think it's going on my watchlist immediately though because I have been watching some of the long named anime and they just are all a bag of laughs all the time. Yeah, I got nothing like I love Konosuba and Bo Fury. I maxed out my defense sat so I won't get hurt.
00:10:32
Speaker
Those are probably the only two long name ones that I watch and they are great But I think there's only so much mental capacity I have for them. That's fair Yeah, the one that I really enjoyed was a chillin in my 30s after I got fired from the Demon King's army Interesting. Yeah, it's a solid name and then one more piece of news also from crunchyroll. They announced that
00:10:54
Speaker
They announced this yesterday and they're actually some of them are already Releasing on crunchyroll and the others will should be up by the end of the month Dragon Ball Z speak of what we talked about at the top or just Dragon Ball in general 15 Dragon Ball movies are coming to crunchyroll I'm not gonna read them all off, but you can look up the article So if you are a Dragon Ball fan and you happen to have crunchyroll You have a ton of new stuff to while I guess stuff that you've seen but a ton of new things to now stream out there on crunchyroll
00:11:24
Speaker
Yeah, you get to watch all the Broly movies, you get to see Genemba again, and hopefully some higher definition. Wrath of the Dragon, that was a really good one. We got to see the origin of Trunks of Sword. One of some other notable ones. Android 13, was it? Super Android 13. Yeah, a lot of, oh, both of the cooler ones, those were fantastic.
00:11:55
Speaker
So yeah, a lot of just great, great, great movies that I'm excited to watch again, just nostalgia galore. Wait, did you? Is that is that what I'm just learning? Is that you at some point got Crunchyroll and I didn't know about this?
00:12:11
Speaker
You did know about it because I got it earlier this year when... I thought you were still debating. Congratulations. Welcome to... It's been a few months now. Nice. Nice. Breaking news for Andrew. Zoo got crunchyroll six months ago. What movie were you asking about? History of Trunks. History of Trunks. No, that does not seem to be on the list that I have here. That's a good one. That is such a good one.
00:12:40
Speaker
Yeah, Trunks is my favorite DBZ character, too. And that movie was just so heartbreaking and so wonderful. You see, this is why I didn't know that you had Crunchyroll, is because in my head is hiding all of these facts. Like, I knew that Trunks was your favorite DBZ character, and I have never seen any DBZ. Don't even know who Trunks is, but I know they are your favorite character. I've gotten at least that much out of it. That's usually when I tune out a little bit. When you and Scootz talk DBZ, I'm like, this is fun for them. I'll let it happen.
00:13:09
Speaker
Just just watch the bridged if you don't want to watch like all of DBZ or keep up with it Just watch abridged. Well as we have just announced there's 40 new anime coming to crunchyroll this summer I have too many things on my watch list to okay, but your chest will really hurt from laughing if you watch abridged
00:13:27
Speaker
That's fair, I have heard many things about the abridged, but I feel like I have to do- So try people one more time. I'm just gonna come out of this hole now. If I'm watching things in short form, I feel like there are other notable shows that will come up later in our news segment that you would be upset if I did not
00:13:52
Speaker
watch first. Well you can add this to the list. I can but you know we keep teasing later in the news segment so I feel like we should move on but before we get to those notable things we have a lovely sponsor to talk about.
00:14:05
Speaker
Yeah, and that sponsor is trying to prep you for festival season, for pool days, for beach days, for this blazing hot summer, no matter where you live, because you cannot escape it. This is coming from Liquid IV, the ultimate source of your hydration. This is a product that I've been using myself for many years now. 00:14:35
Speaker
This was in the blazing deserts of Vegas. And this is a really convenient product because it's in a simple, easy to carry packet. Packet? Pouch? I could not think of the word.
00:14:49
Speaker
Sashay, I've never even heard that word. You can just mix it in with any source of water and one stick of liquid IV and 16 ounces of water hydrates you two times faster and more efficiently than water alone. It's got 12 delicious refreshing flavors to keep her hydration routine and exciting some of those flavors including
00:15:10
Speaker
Concord grape, lemon lime, piña colada, tropical punch, watermelon, strawberry, passion fruit, guava, acai, berry, and then their new flavor, sea berry and strawberry lemonade. One that they did not include that is actually my favorite is the immunity one that's like orange flavored. A lot of people coming down with the flu and strep randomly here and
00:15:33

I'll take a sip of mine right now too. Ooh, that good hot ASMR action that we're getting on the microphone here.
00:17:21
Speaker
when I'd be sweetness. And you know, I'm using that code because I am in the process literally zoo hair watch me on my phone that entire ad read as I was placing my order so that I could finally try this that I could finally talk about this and finally be a part of what liquid IV has to offer.
00:17:36
Speaker
So I actually ordered mine using the code the other day, and Jay Scottie was like, we made another sale. I was like, oh, sorry, that was me. That's me. But that just shows you, we are thankful to each and every one of you who, like I said, you support these brands. It just gives us so much support. So using that code shows them that you like us and we get excited because we messaged each other like, oh my God, we did it.
00:17:59
Speaker
And I needed to take that big gulp of liquid ivy to talk about our next bit of news and that is in the Naruto manga realm So there was a competent. This is like the 20th year anniversary of Naruto So there's a lot of fun things that they've been doing and the newest thing that they did was they had a
00:18:16
Speaker
a voting contest for which character from the Naruto series you wanted to see more of. And my boy Minato won, which he recorded a while ago, but it's just still super exciting. He's the fourth Okage. And it's been announced that the new Minato Namikaze manga one shot will be 55 pages long and releasing on July 18th. I cannot wait. I am very excited for that.
00:18:47
Speaker
And it's just going to be a good time. Like I said, it's one of my favorite characters. He's got an awesome. I feel like he was kind of like robbed of storyline and stuff when we had him in the show. There's definitely a lot more that could have been done with him. But getting to see this fleshed out a little more of maybe before he was Hokage, maybe when he was developing the Rasengan. There's there's so much that we could do with him just to see him like in his prime. And I'm glad that he's going to be getting a little more of the spotlight.
00:19:14
Speaker
So I hope that these 55 pages are a banger and that maybe they just make an animated short out of it in the future too.

Jujutsu Kaisen Return Details

00:19:22
Speaker
All right, so like we teased at the top of the show, Jujutsu Kaisen is coming back this upcoming week. We're super excited because it is going to be our next show that we are doing week to week coverage on. And Zuhair, what's the news? I want to know when does this come out? How many episodes are we getting? How continuous is it? Throw it all at me. One week from the time of this recording, July 6, 2023.
00:19:46
Speaker
It is going to be 23 episodes packed with 20 to 30 minute episodes each. I am excited. The show is just such a wild ride from start to finish of the first season. And I know the manga gets weirder after the first season, so I'm just like, what are we in for for the entirety of this?
00:20:14
Speaker
Yeah, I think I'm on episode 14 of my rewatch right now. And even like the amount of huge things that happened by episode four was like, what the, I forgot how quick paced this thing was. And especially with how incredible the movie was as well. I am very excited to have this whole rewatch done, hopefully right in time to enjoy season two. Cause not even to spoil anything. Cause if you haven't seen the show, you won't know what I'm talking about. Um, 14 is like right around the sister exams, right? Yeah.
00:20:43
Speaker
Okay. Yeah. So you're in the thick of one of many things. Yeah. When I was getting my old change, it was like the strategy doc. Okay. Yep. Yep. Yep. Yep. Yep. Yep. That is arguably like my favorite arc too. So it's going to be fun. Yeah. We're probably not going to have time to record any sort of like primer on the last season, but Zuhair we have a lovely episode on the movie. Correct me if I'm wrong.
00:21:12
Speaker
Yeah, when we discussed my perspective of watching the movie before the show and yours of watching the show before the movie. Yes, because if you weren't aware, there's a movie and it's a prequel that is kind of necessary information from what I've been told. Like it will apply a lot to season two. You can watch season one. It was so heavy in season one.
00:21:39
Speaker
But you can watch season one without needing the movie? Yeah, and that's why my perspective is so fascinating, because every time they reference that event, it's like, oh, I know exactly what they're talking about. I know exactly the intensity of the people they're talking about. I know exactly how big of a deal those events were. So whether you go show a movie or a movie show where you're on the fence about watching it, you haven't seen any Jujutsu Kaisen? You're not wrong about just watching the movie and getting the vibe off of there.
00:22:08
Speaker
Yeah. And I mean, obviously you don't need to take our word for it, but it is in some people's contention for talks of Mount Rushmore. It's a very new show very early, but like there are some people who absolutely love it. And I think it does deserve a lot of praise for what it does. So definitely if you are on the fence, jump off the fence and come to our site. Especially if you are a Naruto fan, I think this is like the closest thing that's. It's Gen Z Naruto. That's exactly like I love that comparison.
00:22:38
Speaker
Like black clover has a lot of similarities But this has similar vibes in a new way, right? Like for black clover you can see like which arcs relate late It's like oh, this is totally this art. This is that totally that character whereas this is like it's different but the joy and the vibes and the energy and the understanding of all the characters like
00:23:02
Speaker
that that energy of it is the closest thing to Naruto in a while. It's not a direct comparison in any ways, but there's there's just a certain energy of it. Yeah, I would say this has more of the grandeur that Naruto has, whereas Black Clover never felt like this is going to be all brand new from Black Clover stuck in my head. Yeah.
00:23:26
Speaker
But yeah, Black Clover was great, but I feel like it's never going to be culturally significant. Jujutsu Kaisen is very much culturally significant in the same way it felt like Naruto was. I see where you're going with that. I don't know if it will ever be as big. I'm never going to claim that. But if it has that same feeling, and especially when you see things from Japan of like them entirely redoing like shopping malls to be Jujutsu Kaisen, it was the same thing they were doing in the 2000s for Naruto. Like it's that same level of fanfare.
00:23:55
Speaker
Yes. So needless to say, we are very excited to start covering that every week. Next week! Oh, yes.

Black Clover Production Update

00:24:03
Speaker
And with all this talk of Black Clover, we actually have Black Clover news. Production of Black Clover anime has finally resumed after the manga took a break to the creator being ill. It's not slated to release until late 2025, but at least there's news of the Gears being back in motion.
00:24:20
Speaker
That is good and bad news. Yeah. I don't want to wait that long, but I'm glad we're getting something because, God, that cliffhanger was a lot. Oh, that cliffhanger is intense. But it's nice to know that there's something else coming. I've gone on the record saying, and I still will say, my favorite anime is Hunter x Hunter.
00:24:43
Speaker
and we never know if it's coming back. There is slightly more manga, they left it open, but there is no promise that the anime will ever return despite it coming out, gosh, like 15 years ago at this point. So like- Does that make me want to prioritize it on my list?
00:25:02
Speaker
It's a great show. It's neither here nor there. It's timeless that it will be there whenever you're ready for it. But I do agree. They're communicating way better than a lot of other animes do. We know that it's coming. I'm OK with it. Take their time, because there's so much stuff about how overworked animators are. We're looking at you, Mappa, and Sony. Yeah. So take your time. Get it right. Let us have some fun.
00:25:28
Speaker
It's gonna be an amazing story, like, top tier. Did you watch the movie yet? I've not watched the movie yet, uh, as I alluded to, it was kicked off Netflix, so... Ah, that's right. At some point I have to figure out what my new situation is going to be so I can watch the movie, but... So don't get too bummed if me and BBK record without you.
00:25:49
Speaker
I honestly kind of forgot you hadn't already. No, we just did the hype episode. We haven't matched our schedules to do the movie review yet, but we have thoughts. We have thoughts. Yeah, I'm sure I'm excited for it, but Netflix is a B. It really was fun seeing all those characters again. I mean, I binged all of it at the beginning of this year, but like,
00:26:14
Speaker
I just, I need all of it now. Yes. It's left in a good enough place though, that it's like, I want more, but imagine if you were cliff hung like in the middle of the eye of the midnight sun arc, that would be something. Yeah, it sucks. Yeah, this was a big reveal, but a big reveal and like, Oh, they're going to pay this off. This is like the thing we've been waiting for. It's like,
00:26:45
Speaker
Yeah. All right. So that's it for all of the news that we had this week. But Andre, as always, was generous enough to listen to our episodes and give us some clarification on things that we needed. Hey, guys, Jimmy Dre Olsen here.
00:27:01
Speaker
max premiere dates, July 24th, Justice League and Ruby superheroes and Huntsman part one, 2023. So, um, I've been meaning to watch that. Like I saw it pop up on my thing and that's something that I need to make the time for because Ruby itself was an excellent series. That was really cool. Cool. The animation on that been tried a couple of weeks ago to start Ruby and just those, those first seasons are the, oh, that's something in a good way or bad way.
00:27:32
Speaker
It's just a product of its time. You're watching a PS2 animation that was recorded on someone's laptop speakers in 2006. And it's like, okay, that's fine. That's exactly what they were doing. But going from Demon Slayer to RWBY was not a good idea. Just a side tangent. It's very fun. I have seen some of the later stuff and I'm excited to get there. But the first season I'm just like, oh, this hurts.
00:28:01
Speaker
That's fair. All right, the next bit was July 27th, Harley Quinn season four. Did we not know about being a thing? Okay, this is news.
00:28:21
Speaker
Gave me a link to and I'm just like where where is this part? I just feel like I have seen nothing like they announced that there was gonna be a fourth season and then it was kind of radio silence because You know James Gunn took over DC so it was like okay Harley Quinn still happening, but it's probably not gonna apply Yeah, it's a max original to
00:28:43
Speaker
Yep, July 27th, 2023, official release date circa three days ago. How did this not show up in my timeline as I was like, okay, what news do we need to talk about this week? I had no idea. This is super exciting. What would we do with that, Andre? Andre, you are just a trusted tentpole of this show. Apparently, Dothra Knights came out yesterday, too. What came out yesterday? Oh, wait, the CW show?
00:29:13
Speaker
I thought that was canned. I thought that was canceled as well. Superman and Lois season three.

Well, yeah, Superman and Lois is popping off right now. Have you seen any of this? I haven't seen any of it, but I've heard nothing but good things. I really, really enjoy the guy who plays Superman, too. Like the first time that he popped up in the Supergirl show, I was like, can we please get a series on him? And then lo and behold, I haven't seen that yet. There is an image that I have seen of a major villain that has appeared at the end of the season here that looks spectacular.
00:29:46
Speaker
like movie level holy crap this character's on the screen so I need to start watching Superman and Lois because I have not
00:29:55
Speaker
done my due diligence on that one. But yeah, very, very pumped for that. Is there more to the email? You have it in front of you, I don't. This is something that I was aware of, but I forgot to mention, and I haven't had the heart to watch it. The final seasons of Pokemon are starting to air on Netflix in the US. Final run with Ash as the main character. Sincerely, Andre.
00:30:21
Speaker
I've been trying to avoid, like I've seen some of the pieces from the Japanese one. And I know that this is here. I know that it's on Netflix. It's just, I don't think my like six year old heart can like watch it yet. I won't cry. I will 100% cry.
00:30:40
Speaker
Oh, yeah, I'm here for crying. I'm personally, my plan is just to wait until it's all there because I've watched a little bit of the beginning and I'm like, it's not going to apply long term. So I want to sit down, watch the entire Champions 8 arc and then watch the Ash saying goodbye arc, because I believe those are like back to back.
00:31:02
Speaker
I think that's the part that's starting now. Yes, that's the part that's starting now. So once all of that is out, I want to get the high of the champions down to the low of Ash saying his goodbyes. But the little bits of what I have seen of the new, I am very excited for. I am like, OK, give us the new Pokemon and make this happen. I've been begging for them to start something new for a while now. So it's like.
00:31:25
Speaker
I'm happy and sad that they answered my... My wallpaper right now is Ash with all of his Pokémon running and it says 1997 to 2023 and the future. That's what I look at every day when I get on my computer. Just give me the opportunity to watch it in Japanese. I like subtitles. Just put it on a place that I can watch it with subtitles so I can watch it now, please. Yeah, that's just a FU Nintendo thing.
00:31:49
Speaker
Yeah, pretty much. I think it's something to do with the Game Freak, like having so many different arms that there's just so much rights issues of like who actually owns it. Because it is very weird that Netflix owns like the US portion of Pokemon distribution. Yeah, I know it's all money-based, but I'm just saying. There was hand gestures to go with that. There was, ladies. That's how I knew what was going on.
00:32:19
Speaker
Yeah, it's tangential news, but as we were talking about DC, I'm like, should we also drop the bombs in case people have not heard about the new Superman and Lois Lane as well? Might as well while we're here. Yeah, I mean, I just also want to talk about it, because I want your opinions, because personally, I think they did a fantastic job. I don't know either of those people, so I'm just kind of going with it. Oh, so you don't know either of them?
00:32:48
Speaker
Okay, so we have, and since we're doing this on the fly, I'm needing to pull this up. James Gunn, where is your Twitter? All right, yes, that is correct. So they had the announcement of David Cornsuite is going to be coming in as Superman. And
00:33:13
Speaker
I also just feel like there's a caveat because there have been so many pictures of this man going out there. Take a look because there are some of them when he has the stubble and beard, he looks a lot like Cavill, so they did that right. Also, you can't tell from the pictures, he's six foot four, so he has the stature of Superman if he bulks it up a bit.
00:33:33
Speaker
Yeah, no, for sure. I mean, I can't move six four until I stand next to you. And I'm like, oh, yeah, that's right. Two hairs tall. But, you know, he has a statue of Superman. I think it's a great, great call. And then they have the Lois Lane has been announced, which I think is an even better call. Rachel Brosnan, star of Marvelous Miss Maisel on Amazon Prime. If you haven't watched that hilarious comedy.
00:34:01
Speaker
I absolutely adore Marvelous Miss Maisel. I've only seen like the first three seasons, but they're all top tier funny and she just has the strong like slight
00:34:14
Speaker
not ditzy, but like the strong yet fun loving woman attitude that I want out of Lois Lane. Because like you read comics and there's so much of it where she's like, Superman, stop saving me, go save the world. And like, you need someone to give them that sass. And I feel like Rachel Brosnan is going to do a great job of delivering that not quite damsel in distress nature that we need out of the Lois Lane.
00:34:36
Speaker
Nothing against Henry Cavill and Rachel McAdams, I believe. They both did great jobs bringing it to the parts as well. I just have to be at this point excited because it's a new dawn for the DCU here. So it looks like it's going to be fun. Lois has definitely got wit. What was that? I said Lois has definitely got wit. Yes, wit is a great, great word for it. Very similar to Mary Jane, not
00:35:07
Speaker
like the original Spider-Man versions, but like talk about Zendaya MJ. You gotta have that level. Oh yeah.
00:35:16
Speaker
Yet nobody gave us a go get them tiger. So, you know, still upset about that. But yeah, those casting things were announced. We're not a DC podcast officially, but if I had my way, maybe we would be at some point. So I figured this is the time and place to talk about on a news episode. I'm super excited. Now we just have to wait and see who Lex Luthor is going to be. Cause that's the big loopholes. Yeah. Superman animated stuff. DCU. We have to talk about all of it. That's just how this

Lex Luthor in New Superman Movie?

00:35:41
Speaker
works. Um, but yeah, it's going to be fun. I'm excited.
00:35:47
Speaker
So you're convinced it's going to be Lex right off the bat? Well, A, there's been rumors. But B, even if it's not Lex as the bad guy, I feel like you put Lex in the movie just to be like, hey, he's part of Metropolis too. Because that's like, unlike a lot of other villains,
00:36:11
Speaker
because of the way that like Lex Luthor is a public figure, I feel like you have to have him there even to make a statement of like, oh, I condemn Superman, or this villain is atrocious, like you still have to have him be there in some capacity to just like sell the world. So you wouldn't settle for just like a name drop on the news or something you want to see him as some capacity. I mean, I would I would settle for a name drop. I don't think we have to get a Luther.
00:36:41
Speaker
I just feel like if the track record is anything to go by, we're gonna get a Luther. It's in the same way of like, when was the last time we got a Batman without any joke or anything? Huh. Batman Begins in Dark Knight Rises. Yeah, I mean it's...
00:37:03
Speaker
That is an actual example, but you know what I mean. At this point, I feel like for them to want to keep the fans, they just have that little nudge. But yeah, Luther just has his fingers in too many things. Even if he doesn't make these bad guys, he's still trying to control them and just at wits with Superman. I want to see a crossover where it's Lex Luthor
00:37:34
Speaker
in the form of James Jameson yelling at wanting Superman instead of Spider-Man. Well, I mean, that's just Perry White, then. He's not as energetic. I'm just like, Perry White is Superman's editor at the Daily Planet that is like, hey, what are you doing here, Smallville? Let's go. Go give me some pictures of Superman. Yeah, no, it's not quite the same.
00:38:04
Speaker
Fun fact, there is a crossover comics comic that does actually happen at some point where Spider-Man and Superman meet up, and there's a whole scene where I think J. Jonah Jameson and Perry White meet up, and they bond over how both of their star reporters just disappear at the most random times and are the most unreliable people because it's Superman and Spider-Man. That's fun. Yes. All right, and we just want to let the people know about
00:38:35
Speaker
No, I think that is all that we have. Maybe we'll have some news next week on there's so many movies going on right now. Jay Scott, he couldn't join us because he's at dial of destiny right now. So I don't know, maybe we'll find loopholes to talk about other movies because it is a time to be a movie fan. That is for sure.
00:38:54
Speaker
Yeah, there's a new, oh man, I'm forgetting the name of it now, but we were talking about it on the news episode last week, but there is a Netflix original coming out tomorrow, I guess at the time that you guys are hearing this, because of course you guys just wake up every Friday so excited for these news episodes.
00:39:14
Speaker
So that's gonna be available. We mentioned the DreamWorks Kraken film that's coming out soon. So if you haven't seen Elemental, go watch that. I absolutely loved it. I can't wait to talk about it.
00:39:27
Speaker
And yeah, I think that's it for like animated theatrical releases within the next couple of weeks because TMNT isn't until August. August. I'm so excited for that. Every trailer I see, I'm like, I want to see this movie is going to be so much fun. I'm trying not to watch anything more than what I've seen.
00:39:46
Speaker
You go to the movies enough you will see all the trailers because I think I've seen almost all of Transformers at this point I haven't seen Transformers yet not have to take forever bringing up your popcorn I Have a bad habit of getting there on time for the movie, which means I'm there when the previews start. Yeah All right, have you been a guesting on anything lately No, I have been just live in my life one animation to liberation at a time
00:40:18
Speaker
Yeah, definitely dialed it back a little bit, just because I've been all over the place and busy with work. So just keep on tuning in. That's T-W-O-N-I-N. And as always, stay lumped. And until more news breaks, muscle muscle.
