On another exciting episode of the Animation Deliberation podcast, you got our reaction for episode 1, and as promised, we are back for the rest of our thoughts of season 1 of Amazon Prime's Batman Cape Crusader. Right after these ads, we have no control over.
00:00:18
J Scotty
Sing along if you know the words. a One, two, three, it's time for animation deliberation. A conversation and a celebration of our favorite action animated series. Yeah.
00:00:33
zuuuuu
Yeah, welcome back to another episode of Animation Delibration, the podcast where you take animation cartoon seriously, but not too seriously. We're your hosts, I'm Zuhar Ali.
00:00:40
J Scotty
And I'm St. Clair.
00:00:43
zuuuuu
J. Skye Sinclair.
00:00:43
J Scotty
j scottie sinclair I wasn't trying to do a James Bond thing. I was trying to do the how Batman referred to Alfred as Pennyworth the whole season. It didn't really play that well.
00:00:54
zuuuuu
He has some James Bond swagger to him at times. so All about the tux.
00:00:57
J Scotty
Oh, yeah, of course. So it's all about the tux.
00:01:03
zuuuuu
and my best Batman voice that I'm trying on a whim.
00:01:08
J Scotty
Pennyworth, I need you to take my tux to the dry cleaners. I have an appearance as Bruce Wayne at a gala later on tonight.
00:01:17
zuuuuu
Oh my, oh my. Bruce, well yes, I will oh tend to that right away. Please don't forget you'll bite him and see before going out.
00:01:25
J Scotty
Right.
00:01:28
J Scotty
Yeah.
00:01:28
zuuuuu
We're

Alfred and Batman's Relationship

00:01:29
zuuuuu
just dive right in because I do have a question now that we're talking about Pennyworth.
00:01:29
J Scotty
So yeah. Yeah.
00:01:32
zuuuuu
So let's just go full spoilers.
00:01:34
J Scotty
Sure.
00:01:35
zuuuuu
We were really annoyed at the first episode of how Alfred was treated. And it was interesting that they had like an episode that kind of addressed it where he was like, I didn't know you did this.
00:01:45
zuuuuu
I didn't know you did that. It's like, well, you never asked. sir So.
00:01:47
J Scotty
Right, right.
00:01:48
zuuuuu
That was a trend of the show, that was very intentional of the show.
00:01:54
J Scotty
Sure, sure.
00:01:55
zuuuuu
um I'm glad that they did address it, but it still like irks me that he was treated that way, especially because naturally we got to see like what it was like for him growing up, and the creepy scene of Bruce being a kid, just like walking into him one night, telling him that he was gonna be Batman, this and that.
00:02:02
J Scotty
Yeah.
00:02:06
J Scotty
Sure, sure.
00:02:09
J Scotty
I was standing on the hallway like, yeah, I'm going to make them all pay.
00:02:14
zuuuuu
though So yeah, we're not sure the whole sound they handled, Alfred.
00:02:20
J Scotty
ah Yeah, I bristle against it a little bit. I commend the show for... Deciding on a direction and not backing down from it because it is very different from the other iterations of Batman we see so I appreciate that It's doing something a little bit different how effective it was in the great scheme of things I I'm gonna like write it off as this just being still a very early Batman in his career So we're used to the character of Batman and Bruce Wayne being kind of gruff and you know still I I do think the show really um
00:02:38
zuuuuu
Yeah.
00:02:51
J Scotty
drove home the fact that he's still dealing with this trauma and hasn't really processed us processed it in a healthy way. So I thought it worked on that end, but I do think it made a Batman kind of seem like an asshole.
00:03:02
zuuuuu
Yeah.
00:03:02
J Scotty
And in that final moment where he he, again, went to go call him Pennyworth, but changed it to Alfred, ah it felt a little unearned. like They did plant a couple of seeds here and there, like what you mentioned about you know Bruce finding out a little bit more about him.
00:03:16
J Scotty
And then I even think about that. um I can't recall which episode specifically specifically, but Lucius Fox was like, ah Bruce said something about him being so chummy with Alfred. And then he was like, yeah, well, I was raised to treat the help as like actual human beings.
00:03:30
J Scotty
So, you know, they they did plant some seeds here and there, but I thought the line was a little on the nose and unearned when it finally happened.
00:03:30
zuuuuu
Yeah.
00:03:37
J Scotty
I was glad they addressed it in some fashion, but I i actually expected them to probably save that for a second season if we get one, the way the season was, you know, the trajectory was going.
00:03:48
J Scotty
How about you?
00:03:49
zuuuuu
Yeah, it's like ah because he almost lost Alfred, it was almost kind of like just like his humanity and point of emotional weakness for himself. He

Pacing and Character Design Debate

00:03:59
zuuuuu
just kind of like he he gave himself that moment to express how he truly felt and then just kind of went back to his normal ways and there's a lot of like tough guys like that I don't think it's a really rare thing to come across of people who don't like truly say how they feel or what they mean until like it's just a really massive circumstance or just something just
00:04:14
J Scotty
Sure.
00:04:25
zuuuuu
kind of presents the opportunity to be forward about how you feel towards somebody so I think it was just like okay this is a good time for me to just say it now back to business like that's cool let's just keep things out as because we have a bigger mission at hand you're alive you're good sweet happy for it no back to being penny worth no
00:04:39
J Scotty
yeah Yeah, fair enough. Go back to being my butler. yeah
00:04:48
zuuuuu
your place
00:04:51
J Scotty
Yeah, yeah. So you you presented me with that question. So I kind of bounced back with a question of my own. Like, what are your your thoughts on the season overall? Do you think it was worthwhile, a good investment of your time? Do you think it was, does it hold a place in the you know myth mythos and lore of the Batman character?
00:05:15
zuuuuu
I was impressed with how they put the show together. So like character design was great. um I like how they were building up individual stories. like We had Harvey then and Dr. Quinzel from beginning to end.
00:05:29
zuuuuu
um So the development was nice.
00:05:29
J Scotty
Mm hmm.
00:05:31
zuuuuu
the I really liked the time setting to not have cell phones and crazy gadgets and stuff like that.
00:05:34
J Scotty
Oh, yeah.
00:05:37
zuuuuu
It really was raw detective and you know hand-to-hand action type sequences. um But in terms of just the delivery of it all, it was very slow paced.
00:05:46
J Scotty
Hmm. Yeah.
00:05:53
zuuuuu
It was more of a show that I liked just kind of having on while I was doing it. I didn't feel like it really needed my full attention because the pacing of it was so mellow that I didn't have to be locked in to really get where the detective stuff was going, which I guess in a sense that kind of honors the episodic television that it's inspired by.
00:06:11
J Scotty
That's true. Yeah.
00:06:12
zuuuuu
Um, so in terms of like development and framework, I give it like a higher ranking, but in terms of like actual execution and like the impact of the storytelling, it was pretty mid.
00:06:25
J Scotty
Okay. Yeah. I think that's fair. I recall when we did do our reaction to episode one, I think I said something along the lines of like, I liked it, but I didn't love it.
00:06:36
J Scotty
And I think that's kind of where I land on the season as a whole.
00:06:36
zuuuuu
Mm-hmm.
00:06:39
J Scotty
I think it did some things incredibly well and some things that I appreciate. I think it had a few swing for the fences that were really good. But like you mentioning the

Villain Portrayals and Character Development

00:06:47
J Scotty
time period, like I agree. I think that is one of the most successful things the series does because It pays a lot of homage to you know the Batman the animated series from the early 90s that was you know developed by or created by Bruce Timm who was a um You know a part of the picture here as well But I think as opposed to that series where it had like the 30s art deco influence But it was kind of indeterminate otherwise in its time setting this one like fully decided like hey We're gonna be in the 30s kind of like
00:07:16
J Scotty
right alongside the time that Batman debuted in the comics. So I mean, you even see that from like the more pointy ears, which I'll admit, I'm a fan of like the shorter Batman ears myself, but it did that aesthetic did kind of grow on me towards the end because, you know, it felt a little more theatrical in its in its presentation.
00:07:28
zuuuuu
Mm hmm. Mm hmm.
00:07:34
J Scotty
And ah to that end, I think my favorite episode of all, was episode two and their take on Clayface. I just love how they leaned into all of that. They leaned into the 30 settings, like all of the actors that appear felt like, you know, figures out of like early Hollywood.
00:07:48
J Scotty
And I dare say if they ever want to like adapt, you know, Clayface for live action, I think this is a pretty good way to take it. I yeah, yeah, I was pretty impressed.
00:07:58
zuuuuu
Oh, absolutely. At some point I wanted to ask you like kind of what your thoughts were on the villain gallery because I feel like this is one of the most popular things outside of Batman himself.
00:08:03
J Scotty
Yeah.
00:08:07
J Scotty
yeah
00:08:07
zuuuuu
And for the Harley Quinn series, I don't think I knew the backstory of Clayface and him being an actor.
00:08:16
J Scotty
Oh, really? Okay.
00:08:17
zuuuuu
So this may have been the only other iteration that I can really think of where he's an actor.
00:08:24
J Scotty
Yeah. Yeah.
00:08:24
zuuuuu
But because my first like exposure to that was from Harley Quinn, like I couldn't help but giggle and it was just like, oh, he's an actor.
00:08:31
J Scotty
Oh, sure.
00:08:33
zuuuuu
And I was trying so hard not to bring it back to the clay face that we're used to recording of about.
00:08:39
J Scotty
Sure. Sure. Sure. Sure. Yeah. Yeah.
00:08:42
zuuuuu
But yes, I do agree that it was that was that was a good episode. It was well depicted. Interesting storytelling. There was a lot of them paranormal things just got weird for Batman because because of how grounded so much in the show was when things like Clayface and some of the ghost stuff that happened it was just kind of like oh this is well well above like what he's used to right now in the early stages of his Batmanning career.
00:08:57
J Scotty
Mm.
00:09:09
J Scotty
Sure. Sure. Yeah. I think the, the gentleman ghost episode that you're calling out. And then I think the other one was the, uh, I think that I looked it up in the character's name is not Turner, but it was the young girl named Natalia that was like sucking the life force from children. I didn't know who she was without looking it up, but those two episodes particularly kind of stood out to me as yeah, everything else feels so grounded, but these are kind of so, you know, supernatural.
00:09:33
zuuuuu
Because in the original Batman anime series, the template of that show was he interacts with the villain, he gets his butt kicked, and then he figures out like what he needs in terms of like tools or resources to deal with it, right?
00:09:44
J Scotty
Mm hmm.
00:09:47
J Scotty
Right.
00:09:47
zuuuuu
And then for these ones, it was just kind of like, I'm just way out of my lane, and I'm just gonna figure it out.
00:09:55
J Scotty
Yeah, absolutely, absolutely. Yeah, and you you asked me about the Villains Gallery and um I mentioned some swing for the fences, like obviously in episode one, they did the whole thing about, you know,
00:10:08
J Scotty
ah gender bending the penguin, but then I think the other like one that really stands out to me is Harley Quinn. And I, you know, I imagine there are probably people out there that did not enjoy this interpretation of Harley Quinn, but I for one loved it. I thought it was a ah great interpretation.
00:10:25
J Scotty
doing something different having her completely independent of the Joker and you know I appreciate the Harley Joker dynamic for what it is that's obviously where the character has its origins and everything like that but it does you know it does bother me a little bit ah
00:10:36
zuuuuu
Mm hmm.
00:10:40
J Scotty
And you know don no judgment towards anybody out there. But I had a friend specifically who was like talking about getting like a Joker and Harley tattoo with his like fiance at the time. And I'm like, that is a toxic relationship.
00:10:50
J Scotty
This should not be celebrated and looked to as an example of what a relationship should be. So I
00:10:56
zuuuuu
Yeah.

DC Universe References and Easter Eggs

00:10:57
J Scotty
like that as Harley has become more independent, even with her own animated series that we've talked about on the show, just doing something so different with the character and having her like you know have this um
00:11:08
J Scotty
this motivation of her own independent of the Joker before she ever interacts with him at all. I appreciate it. All of that.
00:11:15
zuuuuu
Yeah, independent, I think, is a strong word there, especially with, as you mentioned, the animated series and the the live-action ones, of her just being like, hey, like i'm I'm more than just ah an accomplice to the Joker, I'm more than what he made me in this and that, so the fact that
00:11:27
J Scotty
Mm-hmm.
00:11:30
zuuuuu
I really like the approach as well of it being, oh, I'm here for science. Like, this is how I'm really going to get to my patients. And I'm just a lot more sadistic than those psychiatrists should be.
00:11:41
zuuuuu
And um the fact that she's just, you know, I don't think it's unheard of.
00:11:42
J Scotty
Mm-hmm.
00:11:46
zuuuuu
There's definitely been, you know, psycho thrillers and stuff like that. have just
00:11:50
J Scotty
Oh yeah.
00:11:51
zuuuuu
doctors and researchers and stuff have just gone off the rails. So the the the delivery of it all to her just having that calm tone of like, Oh, yes, this is just for science.
00:11:53
J Scotty
Absolutely.
00:11:59
zuuuuu
Like I'm doing the system to make you feel this.
00:12:00
J Scotty
Mm
00:12:01
zuuuuu
I got the heebie jeebies from it. um But the fact that she was like in the inner circle of some of the characters that we were following like Montoya and Gordon.
00:12:04
J Scotty
-hmm.
00:12:10
zuuuuu
So, yeah, they did did a fantastic job with the development and the unveilment of her because it went like I said, like she was one of the few that went across a few episodes as well. So that was a good build up leading up because us as viewers are like, OK, what's going to be the twist or we can see the Joker versus like, oh, it's all her like she's just psychotic herself.
00:12:20
J Scotty
Yeah.
00:12:28
J Scotty
Right.
00:12:29
zuuuuu
Like, cool. I think that.
00:12:31
J Scotty
Yeah, yeah. And you mentioned Montoya, and I'm glad you did, because that was another character. Like, I think this might be one of my favorite interpretations of Montoya we've ever seen. And she was given, you know, a lot of screen time and a lot of development.
00:12:44
J Scotty
And she really is kind of like, you know, besides Gordon and Barbara, like the one example of, you know, someone who's incorruptible within the Gotham PD.
00:12:53
zuuuuu
Mhm.
00:12:53
J Scotty
So I think it was to the show's ah benefit as well as its detriment. Like, there were some episodes that I was just like, where the hell is Batman?
00:13:01
zuuuuu
Yeah.
00:13:02
J Scotty
We're spending all this time with these other characters. And you know it did it did work overall, but I was definitely like, yeah, where's Batman? But the last thing I'll say in regards to Harley and Montoya, it was interesting that they you know had a little fledgling relationship happen there because I didn't see that coming.
00:13:20
J Scotty
Uh, but I appreciate it from an animation so perspective. Both of them were drawn a little more thicker, like they were curvy women. And I kind of appreciated that. It's like, you know, not all these animated women need to be these little like stick figures unless, you know, unless they're old ladies or something like that. So it's like, this is, this is great. This feels like good, you know, representation.
00:13:40
zuuuuu
Yeah, their sense of um diversifying the character designs and the choices that they made without it taking away from the story was really well done.
00:13:51
J Scotty
Yeah.
00:13:52
zuuuuu
I don't know if I have too much more to say on that. It's just the one thing that you just notice it just like, well, cool. Like I dig it. And then just roll with the story from there. That the mid story from there.
00:14:01
J Scotty
Absolutely.
00:14:05
zuuuuu
But yeah, one of my, um just to kind of go off of what you were saying about Montoya, about her being like unbreakable and stuff like that, it was great seeing that in balance to Bullock and Flass, to the extent that we did, like they were just the the perfect opposites of like, this is what corruptible does, and this is what, you know, having one who goes by the book, because before it would just be Gordon, right?
00:14:10
J Scotty
ah Sure.
00:14:18
J Scotty
Yeah.
00:14:30
zuuuuu
So it's like we had, now we have, Commissioner Gordon and Montoya and the two other cops who went unnamed as far as I can remember.
00:14:40
J Scotty
Well, in the one episode where Gordon and Barbara were being targeted, ah which it took me forever to figure out who that ah that assassin with like the target on his face
00:14:51
zuuuuu
It took

Gotham and Character Comparisons

00:14:52
zuuuuu
me a couple minutes.
00:14:52
J Scotty
was,
00:14:53
J Scotty
It was like, finally, once it was like they were pronouncing all this, the biff and the pow and the yada, yada, yada, I was like, oh, onomatopoeia.
00:14:56
zuuuuu
Oh.
00:15:01
J Scotty
That's who this is. And that, you know, that's why Batman, when he finally, you know, had him down on his knees and delivered the final punch, said pow. um But the two cops that were kind of with them throughout that episode, there was the redhead.
00:15:14
J Scotty
And I knew from the get-go that he was going to end up being bad. like I saw that coming from a mile away because in the opening of the episode, oh, he was way too quick to shoot that guy.
00:15:19
zuuuuu
Oh, I did it.
00:15:22
J Scotty
like They didn't even give him a chance to detain. It was like obvious to me that he wanted to gun that guy down. And I just had my eyes on him. I think also because I knew who the voice actor was, ah roger craig Roger Craig Smith, I believe.
00:15:34
J Scotty
um If I'm not mistaken, he voiced Arthur in Red Dead Redemption, who is like, you know, a character that, you know, definitely has his good moments, but has his bad moments as well.
00:15:36
zuuuuu
Okay.
00:15:43
J Scotty
So I was like, I'm keeping my eye on this guy.
00:15:46
zuuuuu
okay Alright, so we got the assassins mixed up. I actually have, I don't think I've ever heard of Onomatopoeia.
00:15:52
J Scotty
OK.
00:15:52
zuuuuu
So I was just like, oh, is this a new, I gotta look into it either. So I was like, oh, is this a new villain?
00:15:56
J Scotty
Sure.
00:15:57
zuuuuu
Is this something I'm just not aware of? It's like, it's like Calendar Man, like am I supposed to know who this guy is?
00:16:01
J Scotty
Hmm.
00:16:03
zuuuuu
um I thought you were talking about the the first guy who took the shot at Gordon on the staircase, the one that they took down right away.
00:16:10
J Scotty
Okay.
00:16:12
zuuuuu
That was Floyd Lawton, deadshot.
00:16:12
J Scotty
Right. Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Good call.
00:16:16
zuuuuu
So they said like in the news, like Floyd Lawton, I was like, why is that name familiar? I was just like, oh yeah, that was Dutch. I was proud of myself for figuring that one out without having to look it up.
00:16:22
J Scotty
Oh, ah yeah, yeah. I didn't look up on amount of Pia either. So I could be wrong on that one. But I think I'm right. And the character was
00:16:29
zuuuuu
No, I have the have the Wikipedia as we're talking and it says, um Jim fears that someone put a bounty on his head after assassins such as Floyd Lawton and Onomatopoeia come to Gotham and the former almost succeeds at killing him.
00:16:41
J Scotty
Oh, okay. Okay. Yeah. If I'm not mistaken, Onomatopoeia was created by Kevin Smith. So that's, I think the main reason I'm even familiar with the character in the first place, but you mentioning Floyd Lawton and Deadshot is the perfect segue because one of the things that stood out to me about this show, it didn't lean into, into it too hard, but there were a couple of instances where I felt like they were giving nods to other DC movies and properties because, uh, I think it was the first episode of Harvey Dent's two-face arc there, where he's going after, I think the guy's name was Zito, the guy that actually threw the acid on him.
00:16:51
zuuuuu
Say a green arrow. Mm hmm.
00:17:20
J Scotty
And he starts a fire on the other side of the room, and the first cop opens the door, and he goes, like what is this? some kind of And then he gets cut off because he gets shot. And I was like, that is such an obvious ah nod to the Suicide Squad, with Will Smith being like, you know what is this, some kind of Suicide Squad?
00:17:37
zuuuuu
Oh, nice.
00:17:37
J Scotty
So I love that and then I think it was the next episode. I think it was Montoya who said ah She said freeze and the guy didn't freeze so then she hit him again and she said I said freeze and I was like Oh Arnold as as mr.
00:17:51
J Scotty
Freeze good stuff Okay, I think they were there if if you were looking for it if not it could have gone right over your head yeah
00:17:54
zuuuuu
Yeah, I did not put those together, so... Good on you. Oh, gotcha. Nice. The one that did crack me up was, um...
00:18:08
zuuuuu
when barbara asked batman for his phone number he's like oh well is there any way that i can reach out to you which is like oh i thought you wanted some blue light against the window it's like i like that it was cool that um my head just went and like 30 different directions just now for this um
00:18:17
J Scotty
Right. That would work as well. ah Okay.
00:18:30
zuuuuu
But it was cool how like Barbara Gordon was the one that Batman kept reaching out to instead of Commissioner Gordon. I don't know why I'm forgetting his first name now.
00:18:39
J Scotty
Jim.
00:18:40
zuuuuu
Jim, thanks.
00:18:41
J Scotty
Yeah.
00:18:42
zuuuuu
This is an interesting twist because obviously she was involved in different in ah in a much different perspective because Jim Gordon was a lot more tunnel vision in his defense of how the police operated.
00:18:57
J Scotty
Mm hmm.
00:18:58
zuuuuu
where Barbara Gordon just wanted to get things done as safe and efficiently as possible. So it was cool that Batman recognized that because he worked with Montoya, he worked with Jim, but it was like Barbara was the one that was getting things done with how he needed.
00:19:03
J Scotty
Yeah, absolutely.
00:19:13
J Scotty
Yeah, which I think is it.
00:19:15
zuuuuu
So, nice twist too.
00:19:18
J Scotty
Yeah, I think it's a set up for fast tracking, uh, you know, potential Batgirl in this universe, which would be interesting if she comes along before Robin, because I was going to ask if you caught the Robin references we had.
00:19:24
zuuuuu
Hmm.
00:19:30
J Scotty
I think they were all in one episode, but yeah. Um, and that, Oh, really?
00:19:34
zuuuuu
Oh, I only caught one. The kid whose name was Jason, but goes by Jace, and I was like, Jason, what? Jason Todd.
00:19:41
J Scotty
Oh, so his friend was named Dickie.
00:19:45
zuuuuu
Oh.
00:19:45
J Scotty
So Dick, and then the other girl with the slingshot towards the end, her name was Carrie, which comes from ah the Dark Knight Rises comic book that was like the one you know female Robin with the red hair and the glasses.
00:19:56
zuuuuu
Oh, why did I think it was Cassie? Okay.
00:19:59
J Scotty
I think it was Carrie, but maybe it was Cassie.
00:20:00
zuuuuu
I know who you're talking about.
00:20:01
J Scotty
I could be wrong.
00:20:02
zuuuuu
Yeah.
00:20:04
zuuuuu
Oh, that's.
00:20:07
zuuuuu
Alright, so, I was telling you this off-air, I didn't think I was gonna say it on the cast, but I'm just gonna share with the people.
00:20:13
J Scotty
Go for it.
00:20:14
zuuuuu
oh A lot of these episodes really put me to sleep. Like, I was i was intrigued, I was engaged, but it's like, by the time I finished working, I tried putting on an episode, it was like, I could not, I was really struggling to keep my eyes open.
00:20:18
J Scotty
Yeah.
00:20:29
zuuuuu
And this wasn't the case with any show that I was watching, it was specifically this one.
00:20:29
J Scotty
Yeah.
00:20:33
zuuuuu
um
00:20:33
J Scotty
Right.
00:20:34
zuuuuu
So I am proud of myself for catching on to the little bit that I did, but now I'm wondering how much more I really did miss out on, just so I'd be like, ah, struggle, stay home.
00:20:39
J Scotty
For sure.
00:20:45
zuuuuu
Because the second an episode would end, I'd just be like, whew, I could just pass out for an hour.
00:20:51
J Scotty
No, I think it's fair. It definitely was a slow burn and I'm going to repeat something I said earlier on. I think it was to the show's benefit as well as to its detriment because it really did kind of like lean into that noir pulpy kind of vibe, which created like a pretty unique aesthetic for the show. but It was it was a slow burn.
00:21:11
J Scotty
There were definitely some slower moments.
00:21:12
zuuuuu
Yeah, it was a good depiction of like how
00:21:13
J Scotty
And I felt like they they held back on the action a little bit so that when the action did happen, like, you know, they really didn't hold back on like the the gunfire. There wasn't a ton of blood or anything like that, but people were dying left and right.
00:21:27
zuuuuu
yeah
00:21:27
J Scotty
Yeah, so.
00:21:28
zuuuuu
it was a good depiction of like how dark and messy Gotham is.
00:21:34
J Scotty
Mm hmm.
00:21:34
zuuuuu
To this day I still think the best depiction of Gotham I've ever seen is um Season 1 of Titans.
00:21:41
J Scotty
Okay.
00:21:42
zuuuuu
when ah Dick Grayson had to go back to Gotham to like help Batman out with something and just it was messy and dirty and the hotel that he was, I was, now I was wondering if like if that hotel that ah Dick Grayson stayed at was the Ivory because of how much they were showing Ivory Hotel in this one and how broken down it was.
00:21:47
J Scotty
Okay.
00:22:00
J Scotty
Okay.
00:22:01
J Scotty
I haven't seen Titans, so I'll have to take your word on it, but yeah.
00:22:01
zuuuuu
ah So I'll see if I can find you a link of just him coming into Gotham and how
00:22:09
zuuuuu
gritty it was. It was like a couple of minutes just kind of showing. It was a great setting.
00:22:12
J Scotty
Okay.
00:22:14
zuuuuu
So a couple of the things that they did in this show kind of reminded me of that depiction.
00:22:14
J Scotty
Yeah.
00:22:21
J Scotty
Hmm. I know a lot of people like to, you know, they equate Gotham to New York, which I don't think is inaccurate, but for whatever reason, for my purposes, and it's probably because I kind of like. You know, I grew up with the animated series and I definitely saw like, you know, the Michael Keaton Batman and Batman Returns when I was young.
00:22:39
J Scotty
But I really do feel like, you know, my Batman is Christian Bale in the Nolan Batman trilogy, especially, but ah you know, Batman Begins is is my favorite Batman movie.
00:22:43
zuuuuu
Mhm.
00:22:47
J Scotty
so I like that depiction of Gotham. And I think it's because so much of that trilogy was shot in Chicago.
00:22:54
zuuuuu
Mhm.
00:22:54
J Scotty
I've just always kind of like, I equate Gotham more to Chicago personally, but you know, with the, the mob top, well, you know, New York has it too with the mafia and everything like that.
00:23:03
zuuuuu
Yeah.
00:23:04
J Scotty
But so, yeah.
00:23:04
zuuuuu
That's fine.
00:23:08
zuuuuu
Um, I think the last big storyline was really the progression of Harvey Dent.
00:23:13
J Scotty
Right.
00:23:13
zuuuuu
seeing how much he I like that full circle of him having to work against Barbara Gordon so much and Then finally like she was the one that you know came to help him out the cool full circle on that
00:23:25
J Scotty
yeah yeah Yeah, yeah, I appreciate it. And I thought it was largely a pretty faithful adaptation to, you know, the two faces we've seen in the past, but the one thing that they did differently here, and they may have done it, you know, elsewhere and I just might not be aware of it, but his ugly monstrous face was actually like the good side of him.
00:23:45
J Scotty
That was the one that had empathy and felt bad about the things that he had done where his, his normal good looking side was the douche. I thought that was kind of, you know, an interesting way to take it.
00:23:54
zuuuuu
Hmm.
00:23:56
zuuuuu
Oh, yeah, that is interesting.
00:23:58
J Scotty
Yeah.
00:24:00
zuuuuu
I liked how much like ethical dialogue they had around that too with, um, where it was like, Oh, you have to, you have to speak in front of the judge and do this and do that.
00:24:11
zuuuuu
And it was like, why? So I can tell them like all the stuff that I kept to myself to help these.
00:24:15
J Scotty
Right.
00:24:16
zuuuuu
That was just like, Oh yeah, that, that, that ethical dialogue was very, very intriguing.
00:24:17
J Scotty
Yeah. Yeah. there
00:24:22
J Scotty
Yeah. Yeah. I think I know exactly the line you're talking about and it really did hit, uh, he's like, yeah, I knew about all this corruption. Never said anything. Why do I deserve to be you know saved in that light? But I think the other side of it was with, uh, Batman and Alfred and Alfred kind of saying, Hey, it's because you took this guy who said he was not ready.
00:24:42
J Scotty
to go out because you wanted to pry him for questions like you are partially responsible for him having this breakdown in the spin out and I've I thought that kind of came full circle too and he had the second meeting with him as Bruce Wayne and got to say like hey you're a victim too like you weren't like this before this happened to you so
00:24:56
zuuuuu
Mhm. Yeah.
00:25:02
J Scotty
Yeah, i don't I don't think the show beat us over the head with it, but I i did appreciate the um the nuance and the respect that, you know, mental health was given in the show.
00:25:14
zuuuuu
But I also like that when Batman says like I'm responsible for this so it's my job to fix it as well. It it was almost like a don't tell Alfred I said that.
00:25:25
J Scotty
Yeah, I like that.
00:25:27
zuuuuu
It's like I'm sharing it in this moment but don't tell him I said it.
00:25:28
J Scotty
Yeah.
00:25:33
J Scotty
Yeah. Yeah.
00:25:36
J Scotty
Uh, so, yeah.
00:25:36
zuuuuu
I love how, I love how when Barbara calls him too, like it was Alfred that answers and I was like, I'm not a director call.
00:25:41
J Scotty
Mm-hmm.
00:25:42
zuuuuu
I was like, I'm trying to call the Batman. Please excuse me.
00:25:47
J Scotty
Please hold.
00:25:50
J Scotty
Yeah.

Speculations on Batman's Second Season

00:25:51
J Scotty
Yeah. So, uh, anything else as far as the season goes or you or do you want to see a season two, would you be excited for a season two?
00:26:00
J Scotty
All right. I guess.
00:26:01
zuuuuu
I feel like season two is gonna be one of those, like, it may go under the radar for me, like, oh yeah, I remember the show.
00:26:06
J Scotty
Ah, right.
00:26:07
zuuuuu
Yeah, this is season two. Like, sure, I'll watch it when I have time and hopefully stay awake a little longer.
00:26:14
J Scotty
I can't believe I didn't really think about it until I brought up that prompt thinking about like a possible season two, but we had the tease for the Joker at the very end. And I got to say, Oh yeah.
00:26:23
zuuuuu
I'm laughing at Wikipedia's type up of the teaser too.
00:26:28
J Scotty
Okay. What's it say?
00:26:29
zuuuuu
So following this, Alfred assures Batman that while he failed to reach dense humanity, Batman still has his elsewhere. A mysterious man kills a series of victims with the toxin that makes him laugh uncontrollably. Mysterious man.
00:26:40
zuuuuu
Who could it be?
00:26:41
J Scotty
Right. Yeah. Who could it be? You even got like a flash of his face and I don't remember what he said. He, it was like two words that he said, but I don't like the voice jury still up, but the register was just like deep and growly.
00:26:53
J Scotty
Like it was something I'd expect from like dark side or, or Martian manhunter, not Joker, you know, Joker.
00:26:55
zuuuuu
Oh yeah.
00:27:00
zuuuuu
Yeah, it was so was almost matching Batman's cadence.
00:27:03
J Scotty
Yeah. Yeah. Joker can be different. You know, Joker doesn't have to be the same all the time, but I want him to be, maniacal, not growling.
00:27:10
zuuuuu
Mhm.
00:27:13
J Scotty
So, sure.
00:27:13
zuuuuu
But at least, like, this is the time to gauge that. Because now if the producers and stuff like here that, oh, a lot of people are complaining, they have the opportunity to be like, okay, let's let's change gears on this.
00:27:26
zuuuuu
But they've been making a lot of changes that they're happy with, too. So it could go either way.
00:27:29
J Scotty
True. Maybe it's just Matt Reeves and the Joker doesn't gel with me because I didn't really like Barry Keegan's, his whole thing at the end of the Batman either.
00:27:39
J Scotty
I was like, Eh, not me.
00:27:39
zuuuuu
Oh, I love the deleted scene.
00:27:44
zuuuuu
Okay.
00:27:45
J Scotty
It's just not what I want from my Joker. I don't want him to be so mutilated.
00:27:47
zuuuuu
Not my joke. Hashtag not my joker.
00:27:50
J Scotty
What's that?
00:27:50
zuuuuu
Hashtag

Joker Sequel Anticipation

00:27:51
zuuuuu
not my joker.
00:27:51
J Scotty
Hashtag. No, I'm never going to be one of those to start that campaign, one of those campaigns. I'm not petulant like that.
00:27:58
zuuuuu
That being said, are you looking forward to, uh, Folly and Dew?
00:27:58
J Scotty
All right. Uh,
00:28:01
J Scotty
Oh, yeah. Yeah. I haven't rewatched the 2019 Joker since I saw it because it like affected me that much. It was that great a movie, but I do want to, I am excited to check it out again.
00:28:08
zuuuuu
Mm hmm.
00:28:12
J Scotty
Um, in preparation for Foley, I do.
00:28:15
zuuuuu
that was one that i watched a little later than i wanted to and this is exactly why i go to movies as soon as possible because people set the bar so damn high that when i saw it i was like whelmed um so i think now that it's kind of like balance itself out it's like i want to watch it again just to like really get myself into it without too much expectation um but yeah i am i'm looking forward to the sequel it looks looks wild
00:28:15
J Scotty
Yeah.
00:28:20
J Scotty
Okay.
00:28:26
J Scotty
Yeah. Sure.
00:28:39
J Scotty
Sure.
00:28:44
zuuuuu
And again, we have a we have a spin up on how Harley is portrayed.
00:28:44
J Scotty
yeah Or is she?
00:28:48
zuuuuu
Like she is a fellow, like we went from seeing her as being a doctor and turning into Harley Quinn on her own to her just being a patient along with the Joker in the trailer. So that'll be interesting.
00:29:01
J Scotty
I, I'm still, I'm still thinking she might, she might be just a figment of his imagination because even only having seen that first movie, the one time I do remember Zazi beats character.
00:29:01
zuuuuu
Or is she?
00:29:06
zuuuuu
Ooh.
00:29:11
J Scotty
Like I think she was real, but his whole interaction with her was entirely fabricated in his head.
00:29:17
J Scotty
And we found out afterwards, but yeah. Yeah.
00:29:17
zuuuuu
oh interesting okay
00:29:23
J Scotty
All right, well to bring it back to animation, did you have anything else you want to say about Batman Caped Crusader or should we tackle some, I don't even know if it's really feedback, but we had some people reach out to us and welcome us back.
00:29:38
zuuuuu
yeah the last thing is i think this is just one of those shows where it's like um I don't think it would really push for people to watch it too much, but I'd be interested to talk to people who already have happened to watch it.
00:29:54
J Scotty
Sure.
00:29:54
zuuuuu
So, like, someone was like, oh, have you seen the cake? It's like, yeah, you should check it out. Let me know what you think. But I wouldn't be like, yo, did you watch it? how Did you watch it? yeah
00:30:01
J Scotty
Yeah. I think if you're like a Batman diehard and specifically like the, the animated series, like if that's your bread and butter, this is worth your time.
00:30:09
zuuuuu
Mm hmm.
00:30:10
J Scotty
But yeah, everybody else I'd say, you know, uh, I'll compare it to like my adventures with Superman where like my adventures was Superman. Like I just immediately fell in love with, like, I was like, this is a new,
00:30:18
zuuuuu
Mhm.
00:30:19
J Scotty
Novel take on this character while there are you know aspects of it that feel familiar I feel like it's just doing something new and fresh, and I can't really say that about Kate Crusader. It was solid great entertaining ah But like I said, I liked it.
00:30:29
zuuuuu
Yeah.
00:30:32
J Scotty
I didn't love it, but
00:30:33
zuuuuu
which in a world of us falling back to nostalgia so much, it's crazy that we were drawn, because I i match your sentiment for my adventures with Superman. It's crazy that we were given something that we watched a lot when we were younger, and then something that was just like brand new for DC hero storytelling and actually drew to the newer thing more than the nostalgia of Caped Crusader.
00:31:01
J Scotty
Imagine that it can't all be nostalgia and member berries. You got to forge ahead.
00:31:06
zuuuuu
I mean, you know how much I'm drawing more to the the anime side of things, too. So when you put a great storyline into an anime setting, I'm just like, sure, where's where's the Batman equivalent of this now?
00:31:10
J Scotty
Oh, sure.
00:31:17
J Scotty
Absolutely, absolutely.
00:31:19
zuuuuu
Batman and me?
00:31:19
J Scotty
Well, on the subject of anime, I think the ah the welcome backs that I was mentioning there are pretty anime

Listener Feedback and Anime Discussions

00:31:27
J Scotty
heavy. we We got a ah couple of mentions of ah other stuff, but let me start here with ah Mr. John Irons, AKA Captain Game Show.
00:31:37
J Scotty
And he said, Hey guys, welcome back. I was literally one of those people last week that was about to ask you if you were coming back when I saw the Batman episode.
00:31:44
zuuuuu
soon.
00:31:46
J Scotty
Missed you dudes zoo. I agree with the recommendations of delicious and dungeon solo leveling and has been hotel. And I think you'll enjoy the rest of Cape crusader. i I'd also add that and also add one that definitely would have slipped past me if my son hadn't suggested Blue Lock on Crunchyroll. It's about high schoolers playing soccer, so I was extremely skeptical, but it's actually awesome. Thinking about it now, it includes a lot of standards shown in ingredients, relatable protagonists, intense training program, distinctive characters with unique abilities, everyone trying to prove themselves, et cetera. That also carries through...
00:32:24
J Scotty
That also carries through in the action of the matches and when characters are solving, challenges are leveling up. Not to mention the second season. F's harder than a Honda ah Odyssey, fresh off of fresh off the lot. Hashtag Deadpool and Wolverine. That's good. I'd also recommend, though not as strongly, Fire Force on Crunchyroll and Mystery of Aaravos, aka the Dragon Prince, on Netflix. If I recall correctly, the clunky animation of Season 1 bugged you and you dropped it. I get that, but the animation gets better as it goes on.
00:32:57
J Scotty
And the writing and storytelling make it worth watching. I'd be curious to know what you all think. Great to have you back. John, fear not, I am adequately, fear not, I am adequately whelmed irons.
00:33:06
zuuuuu
All
00:33:10
J Scotty
And a PS here. Oh, did I mention there's a Blue Lock movie? It's likely out of theaters now, but it wasn't bad.
00:33:14
zuuuuu
right.
00:33:19
zuuuuu
We miss you too, buddy. Let me see if I can hit these in order. So based off um Scoot's recommendation and Andrew also saying he loves a show.
00:33:29
zuuuuu
I am halfway through Delicious in Dungeon and I am loving every episode. It is so funny. it has me I'm trying so hard like not to watch too many ones because it's such a feel good show.
00:33:38
J Scotty
that
00:33:39
zuuuuu
like
00:33:39
J Scotty
That was my problem.
00:33:39
zuuuuu
it's like
00:33:40
J Scotty
I was like, I have to pace myself. I don't want this to be over.
00:33:43
zuuuuu
ah i'm I'm specifically pacing it because like work gets so difficult and stuff.
00:33:49
J Scotty
Yeah.
00:33:49
zuuuuu
like It's a nice like nice little treat in my day when I watch an episode or two.
00:33:50
J Scotty
Yeah. Right. It's just comfort. Ah, yes. It's so good.
00:33:55
zuuuuu
oh this The delivery, the characters, ah spoiler, the mage is my favorite. I think this is going to be the the next the next show that we talk about.
00:34:01
J Scotty
Ah.
00:34:06
J Scotty
Oh, but yeah, I would love to. We can do like, yeah, a season review.
00:34:07
zuuuuu
Probably, yeah. As soon as I finish up, i'll well we'll get it on the schedule with YouTube.
00:34:10
J Scotty
Yeah.
00:34:11
zuuuuu
I think i think this this will be the next thing that we talk about, so tune in for that. Let's see, solo leveling is on my list, BBK kind of screwed, because we said we were goingnna i we both said that we were going to watch Kaiju number 8 in solo leveling.
00:34:27
zuuuuu
And I was going to watch them in like the orders that they came out, but he started Kaiju number eight first.
00:34:31
J Scotty
Okay.
00:34:32
zuuuuu
So then I went to that. Um, we finished that going to have him to talk about it, but so lovely is on my list.
00:34:34
J Scotty
and
00:34:38
zuuuuu
I'm going to be watching that soon. Um, has been hotel has also been on my list. Well, it seems like one person told me about, so I was like, eh, maybe I'll watch it.
00:34:46
J Scotty
I was trying to think of ah trying to think of who recommended Hazbin Hotel because it wasn't me, but I am interested in watching it because not only does it come from A24, but I know it started on YouTube and has like an occult following on YouTube.
00:34:47
zuuuuu
I've been hearing a little more. So I don't know. I might, I might get into that.
00:35:02
J Scotty
So it's it's definitely one that I've wanted to check out as well.
00:35:02
zuuuuu
Hmm.
00:35:05
zuuuuu
What is that on Prime? That's on Prime, right?
00:35:07
J Scotty
I believe it's on Prime, yes.
00:35:10
zuuuuu
So yeah, now that I'm hearing more, I might give it a shot. Blue Lock was on my list, but it was it was at that time when we were doing the animinits, because we were all watching so much stuff that
00:35:22
J Scotty
yeah Yeah, you started it, right?
00:35:23
zuuuuu
Uh, so it was on my no I never even ended up starting it because I was just so overwhelmed with shows that I was watching that I just never got Watching it.
00:35:26
J Scotty
Oh, oh, okay.
00:35:32
zuuuuu
Um being in theaters did make me want to start it, but um, yeah, I just never got it up here
00:35:32
J Scotty
We must, we must have had another listener that was like,
00:35:37
J Scotty
Yeah. I think we had another listener that was banging the drum for blue lock because somewhere in my mind I was like, yeah, I remember hearing about it and wanting to check it out and I just hadn't got around to it either.
00:35:41
zuuuuu
you
00:35:46
zuuuuu
Yeah, I slipped up on that one, um but it definitely is on my list.
00:35:49
J Scotty
Okay.
00:35:50
zuuuuu
um Fun fact, ah during the World Cup, Japan's uniforms, their kits were actually the Blue Lock kits.
00:35:57
J Scotty
Oh, cool.
00:35:58
zuuuuu
Yeah. Let's see, let's see, see.
00:36:07
zuuuuu
a We obviously love Deadpool and Wolverine, we're not going to talk too much about it here, but
00:36:13
zuuuuu
um fire force yes absolutely love that show it has some of the most incredible sound design i've ever heard in an anime before like whenever those explosions go off like oh god it doesn't especially have a good sub oh um and you were correct i did try dragon prince and it was just too clunky for my liking at the beginning um so i never really got back into that one all right yeah i think i'm caught up with all those
00:36:21
J Scotty
Mm hmm. Oh, yeah.
00:36:33
J Scotty
Hmm.
00:36:39
J Scotty
Yeah, going back to Fire Force for a second, I know both of us have seen the first two seasons. The third season is not out yet, right?
00:36:46
zuuuuu
comes up this year this year this year like in a couple of months fire for season 3 release oh I lied apparently fire for season 3 will air in two parts the first which will premiere April 2025 and the second in January 2026 hmm
00:36:47
J Scotty
Next year. OK. Oh, this year. OK, cool. Cool.
00:36:53
J Scotty
great Great.
00:37:06
J Scotty
e Okay. Well, let's send a year away.
00:37:13
J Scotty
Whenever I think of that show, I just always...
00:37:14
zuuuuu
and I think this is like the let end of the show.
00:37:17
J Scotty
Oh, is it gonna be that short?
00:37:20
zuuuuu
I think so, I could be wrong.
00:37:22
J Scotty
No.
00:37:23
zuuuuu
I think that's why they're splitting it like that.
00:37:25
J Scotty
Okay. I just always think of ah Dr. Giovanni, the guy with the plague mask. Shinrakusakabe.
00:37:33
zuuuuu
She'd rock. Ah, such a great show.
00:37:37
J Scotty
Oh, yeah.
00:37:39
zuuuuu
So the other big message that we got was on Instagram from Ryan Collins. um As we said, we're trying to do better about reading our DMs, so thank you for everyone who's been reaching out and saying that they missed us because we've been doing our best to respond.
00:37:51
J Scotty
Mm hmm.
00:37:52
zuuuuu
ah so
00:37:55
zuuuuu
and and la la la okay Hey AD, I just listened to your Batman podcast and Zuhair mentioned that he felt like your guy's absence wasn't noticed, not your exact words, but along the line. I just wanted to reach out that I love you guys' podcasts and it's been very missed. I listen to most of the Stranded Panda cast, MCU's spark, multi-verse news, bingers, and always watching, and I have to say that you guys have to think that you guys are tied with MCU as my favorite. I'll redact the next part.
00:38:23
zuuuuu
um I just want to say you guys reinvented my love for anime. I grew up on DBZ, Naruto, Cowboy Bebop, One Piece, and so many others. I fell out of anime around college and never got back into it.
00:38:34
zuuuuu
I started listening to your coverage of Bad Batch, Young Justice, and so many more American cartoons that you covered, but I wanted more. So just because you covered it, I watched Black Clover, My Hero Academia, and Demon Slayer. You guys helped bring back a passion of mine that I forgot I had.
00:38:47
zuuuuu
Now then, I've watched all of One Piece, and I'm rewatching Naruto.
00:38:50
J Scotty
Oh wow. Wow.
00:38:51
zuuuuu
I just want to say thank you and I really miss you guys and look forward to more of your coverage.
00:38:52
J Scotty
Wow.
00:38:57
zuuuuu
that did That came out the day after our episode went up and it made my morning. like
00:39:04
J Scotty
Oh wow.
00:39:05
zuuuuu
tearing up all of it now like I did when I read it that day.
00:39:07
J Scotty
Yeah.
00:39:07
zuuuuu
Like it gave me to such a boost of energy to the fact that we can make that much of an influence and make people that comfortable with their love for animation because one of those things like when my friends in like high school started getting into like sports and being teenagers and you know being you know fitting to the ground stuff like I was still really into this stuff and got picked on so much for it.
00:39:30
J Scotty
Ooh, yeah.
00:39:31
zuuuuu
and then just like during college and stuff just kind of like finding my circle with it and then eventually getting to the point where it's like i just don't care what people think and now it's just like such a norm to be a fan of anime like you see like all this stuff at the olympics of people mimicking things from animes that they love i even posted on facebook like three um like sharing that post saying like oh it's just for kids under quotes so it's like
00:39:35
J Scotty
Mm-hmm, mm-hmm.
00:39:42
J Scotty
Oh, Yeah.
00:39:48
J Scotty
yeah
00:39:53
J Scotty
Mm-hmm.
00:39:56
zuuuuu
knowing that people have had some level of the same experience of just like having a passion for these things because it is incredible storytelling a lot of it is feel-good stuff and a lot of it is motivational like you have characters um that just you watch certain scenes or you know think back on certain characters that really give you a boost during your most difficult time so uh to know that we have that impact on listeners to um
00:40:17
J Scotty
Are we sure?
00:40:22
zuuuuu
be able to be open about the love for that and how much it helps them out like it's just just feels good just casually
00:40:29
J Scotty
Yeah, don't get me wrong. I appreciate the heartfelt message like that gets me in the fields as well. But I am just wildly impressed that Ryan watched one piece in its entirety. It's ah so many episodes.
00:40:41
zuuuuu
yeah
00:40:43
J Scotty
Oh, man. But I'm impressed. Kudos to you, sir. Kudos to you.
00:40:47
zuuuuu
Yeah, that's one that I still haven't started just because I haven't had like the mental capacity to really engage with that.
00:40:52
J Scotty
I so started it around the time that the live action, uh, Netflix one came out and I had the intention of, of trying to watch it in its entirety.
00:40:59
zuuuuu
Okay.
00:41:03
J Scotty
Like as my show that I fell asleep to, but, um, I think I got through season one and enjoyed it, but it was just like, again, it felt like such a Herculean task ahead of me with so many other things to watch.
00:41:12
zuuuuu
Yeah.
00:41:14
J Scotty
But yeah, yeah, it's obviously a ah beloved anime.
00:41:15
zuuuuu
What?
00:41:17
J Scotty
It's been running for so long for a reason.
00:41:19
zuuuuu
Yeah, I typically watch um sitcoms and stuff while I'm editing. I might just switch it up and see if I can tolerate one piece long enough to.
00:41:31
zuuuuu
It's just a lot. I might. Oh, there's there's like so much shade going around, too, for the people who watch the super cuts.
00:41:33
J Scotty
Yeah.
00:41:37
zuuuuu
It's like, you're not a real fan because you didn't stick through all this and buta it's like, yeah, but I don't have the time either. like even people who say it's like oh Naruto is your favorite anime like should I get into it it's like no watch something shorter first like make sure you get into anime before you start disrespecting my favorite anime because if I can't get you into it I don't want you to say that I gave a bad recommendation on this because
00:41:43
J Scotty
Yeah.
00:41:53
J Scotty
That's, that's fair.
00:41:58
J Scotty
Sure.
00:42:00
zuuuuu
they're the The way that anime was then is different than how it is now.
00:42:05
J Scotty
Oh yeah.
00:42:06
zuuuuu
They were not straight to the point, um they dragged along, they had an unnecessary amount of flashbacks. It is hard to recommend to a modern generation that isn't like willing to fully dive into that, so I never recommend Naruto because it's my favorite, but because I know how much of a challenge it would be to new anime viewers.
00:42:19
J Scotty
Yeah.
00:42:26
J Scotty
Yeah, that's fair. I think death note is a pretty strong recommendation for like ah a first anime.
00:42:31
zuuuuu
That's my go-to wreck.
00:42:34
J Scotty
Yeah. Yeah.
00:42:35
zuuuuu
Death Note, now I feel comfortable suggesting like Demon Slayer, Jujutsu Kaisen.
00:42:39
J Scotty
Oh, sure. Sure, sure, sure.
00:42:41
zuuuuu
um
00:42:42
J Scotty
Yeah.
00:42:45
J Scotty
but you're bringing up ah sitcoms as kind of being like what you watch when you're editing and stuff like that.
00:42:45
zuuuuu
But yeah.
00:42:49
J Scotty
I was reminded of like what I kind of go to and I just want to chill out and not like, you know, have to worry about actively watching something, just kind of like, you know, taking it in. And ah Solar Opposite season five, I didn't need, I kind of forgot it was coming out.
00:43:02
J Scotty
I just happened to stumble upon it when I opened Hulu the last time. So slowly working my way through that. And ah listeners may recall my ah cohort on,
00:43:13
J Scotty
multiverse news, Jay Sisson, he and I talked about um when season four came out, so there's a a strong chance we may get together to talk about season five and then Futurama. Futurama is airing new episodes on Mondays, so once that's ah once that season's done, ah even if it's just me, I'll have some thoughts on that one.
00:43:35
zuuuuu
I kid you not, when I saw the email for both of those shows, I instantly went, ooh, I bet Jay Scotties have and I wonder when him and Jay are gonna talk about it.
00:43:47
J Scotty
Yep, yep. Now, if you if you get around to watching it, you're more than welcome to join us. I just don't want to, you know.
00:43:53
zuuuuu
So Futurama, I tried, watching from the beginning and it was like, it was, in I had to be in the mood for it

Futurama and Podcast Planning

00:44:02
zuuuuu
type of thing.
00:44:02
J Scotty
Sure, sure.
00:44:03
zuuuuu
I couldn't watch it while editing, like that's what I tried doing, but like it, sometimes it'd be like, I just don't want to watch something else right now.
00:44:10
J Scotty
That's fair.
00:44:10
zuuuuu
um Solar Opposites, I still haven't tried, but I will look into that. But I did attempt Futurama, it was not a bingeable show.
00:44:17
J Scotty
Yeah.
00:44:22
J Scotty
Interesting. Interesting. I think if you get through season one, it like really picks up like halfway through season two and like, Oh, okay.
00:44:29
zuuuuu
I think I'm in three.
00:44:32
J Scotty
Well, maybe.
00:44:32
zuuuuu
Yeah, I definitely watched quite a bit of it.
00:44:34
J Scotty
Oh, okay.
00:44:35
zuuuuu
How far did I get?
00:44:35
J Scotty
Alrighty.
00:44:35
zuuuuu
Now I'm curious.
00:44:36
J Scotty
Okay.
00:44:39
zuuuuu
No, no, no, i I do enjoy it.
00:44:39
J Scotty
Boom, boom, boom, boom, boom.
00:44:41
zuuuuu
And like, I will do Zoidboaker impressions until the day I die.
00:44:42
J Scotty
who don don
00:44:46
zuuuuu
But yeah, I was I was in the middle of season three.
00:44:48
J Scotty
um but but but
00:44:55
zuuuuu
oh Yeah, I was in the middle of season three.
00:44:57
J Scotty
Okay. I don't know if I've ever, I haven't been able to nail a, uh, a ah bender impression, but thinking of beninger ah not binger bender, bender, uh, John DiMaggio voiced a number of characters going back to Cape crusader for a second.
00:45:06
zuuuuu
Pretty true.
00:45:11
J Scotty
I think most obviously Harvey Bullock. It was like, he wasn't even changing his voice for that guy, but, uh, I did, I did notice, uh, he voiced a couple of background characters here and there too. Like I think the one of Harley Quinn's, um, goons, the guy that was dressed as a giant baby.
00:45:26
J Scotty
He voiced him as well. But yeah. all right hey everybody like I can see I'm bender I'm bender no I can't do it it's too
00:45:35
zuuuuu
I'm Fender! Nah.
00:45:40
zuuuuu
um Um... Yeah.
00:45:45
zuuuuu
What else am I watching? Oh yeah, I was telling you off-air, um... The Gentlemen movie is one of my all-time favorite movies, and I'm finally watching the show, and I don't know why I waited so long.
00:45:58
zuuuuu
It's just so freaky. I have two episodes left. It might be like my...
00:46:00
J Scotty
Oh, okay.
00:46:01
zuuuuu
like my movie night for myself tonight.
00:46:03
J Scotty
There you go.
00:46:04
zuuuuu
um but that dude delicious in dungeon man so good so good i can't remember name either i don't know any other names
00:46:04
J Scotty
There you go.
00:46:08
J Scotty
Yeah.
00:46:10
J Scotty
Well, yeah, you mentioned that ah I hate that I can't remember her name off the top of my head right now, but the mage is your favorite character. What is her name? Because it's well, chill Chuck. I'm not going to forget chill Chuck anytime soon. Since she is my favorite, so I'm not going to forget. Since she Laos, I remember for whatever reason, what is her name?
00:46:35
J Scotty
Not going to pull it, but yeah.
00:46:43
zuuuuu
man Marcell?
00:46:46
J Scotty
Marcel, how can I forget Marcel?
00:46:51
J Scotty
They're all so great.
00:46:52
zuuuuu
Her reactions to everything are just topped here.
00:46:56
J Scotty
Yeah.
00:46:58
zuuuuu
and The last episode I saw was the one where they were with the orcs.
00:47:05
J Scotty
Okay.
00:47:06
zuuuuu
Making bread. Bread! Bread! Bread! Bread! Bread!
00:47:10
J Scotty
If I recall correctly, that's when you get to spend a little bit of time with their former party member, the dwarven lady whose name I think starts with an N no.
00:47:10
zuuuuu
No,
00:47:20
zuuuuu
no it was the same it was the same crew.
00:47:24
J Scotty
Oh, sorry for the spoilers then.
00:47:24
zuuuuu
and that you yeah um yeah it was the same crew and they were just like with the orcs because it turns out that like that was like who bought from sentry all the time so like marsil and the orc were going back and forth about like oh you guys started this and you guys started this like it's basically like a race war type of conversation between them and then the baby was like why can't we all be together
00:47:25
J Scotty
sorry
00:47:33
J Scotty
Okay. Oh, and Okay. And was, okay.
00:47:49
J Scotty
Okay.
00:47:53
J Scotty
Yeah. I might have to rewatch some of the early episodes earlier episodes before we yeah.
00:47:56
zuuuuu
i
00:47:58
J Scotty
Right. Right. Yeah. Not a problem. Not a problem. All right. My friend, uh, anything else you want to get off your chest before we get out of here?
00:48:06
zuuuuu
No, I think you have my rundown of all the animes I've been watching and plan on watching another my hero episode tomorrow and watch more delicious a dungeon um
00:48:17
J Scotty
Okay.
00:48:18
zuuuuu
In the list of things, I think I'm going to start solo leveling next. I don't know when, but I'll start it next.
00:48:24
J Scotty
Okay.
00:48:24
zuuuuu
But ah in terms of the next thing that we podcast on, I think it's most likely going to be delicious in dungeon.
00:48:33
J Scotty
Okay. Yeah. Sounds good. Uh, totally on the fly here. We haven't discussed any of this, but I would just put it out there. I would like to talk about my adventures with Superman season two at some point.
00:48:45
zuuuuu
Yeah.
00:48:45
J Scotty
Um, I think that'd be, Oh, there you go.
00:48:47
zuuuuu
That would be a good bitch for my flight.
00:48:49
J Scotty
There you go. um I still have actually, it's not because I wasn't enjoying the show. It was just, uh, like so many things started airing all around the same time, but I think I have like three or four episodes left before I'm done with the season. And then um jury's still out on this one, but I'll finish up Kite Man and let you know if I think it's worth talking about or not.
00:49:05
zuuuuu
Okay.
00:49:06
J Scotty
But yeah, we'll see.
00:49:07
zuuuuu
All right.
00:49:09
zuuuuu
That might be a tougher one to get me to prioritize.
00:49:11
J Scotty
ah fair Fair enough. Fair enough.
00:49:13
zuuuuu
Did I even finish the last season of Tarly Quinn?
00:49:17
J Scotty
I did. I don't know if you did. I did.
00:49:20
zuuuuu
Was there one that we didn't talk about?
00:49:22
J Scotty
No, I think we've talked about all the ones that have come out so far.
00:49:24
zuuuuu
Okay.
00:49:25
J Scotty
Yeah. I think the only thing that came out that we didn't talk about was maybe um The Valentine Valentine special.
00:49:31
zuuuuu
so like but when i Yeah, the Valentine's Day thing or something Okay, yeah, but no I'm so I'm in the middle of delicious and dungeon so we can definitely hit that one sooner than later and then if not like Maybe like beginning of September will hit my adventures with Superman because they don't be able to watch it on the plane Cool anything else for you
00:49:34
J Scotty
Yeah.
00:49:37
J Scotty
All right.
00:49:42
J Scotty
Okay. okay
00:49:53
J Scotty
Yeah. Sounds like a plan.
