Podcast Introduction & Health Disclaimer
00:00:14
Speaker
Hey guys, so welcome back to the pod. So let me first apologize again. I feel like I'm in this apology tour. My voice is a bit like congested. It's not COVID, thank God. I have tested myself like two times, not COVID negative, but I don't know. Maybe it's cold or it's the allergies. I honestly don't know. This weather change in New York really fucked me up and it's not just me, honestly.
00:00:43
Speaker
Wherever I was at, subway, the bus, the gym, I like I literally see people, you know, like running their nose and like running their nose, whose runny nose or just like coughing.
00:01:01
Speaker
everyone is just like feeling a bit congested and i can see that like it's not just me so yeah i don't know might be something but just wanted to apologize but i didn't want to skip another episode because i already skipped one episode before and like that would be too much so i'm feeling okay so just want to put it out there in case you don't want to hear my congested voice hopefully next week would be better but today's thanksgiving well uh thanksgiving week i'm like today's thanksgiving tomorrow's
The Future of Social Media Series
00:01:30
Speaker
But yeah, I'm recording this right before Thanksgiving, so I wanted to drop this episode and talk about social media a little bit. It could be kind of funny to talk about, not funny, I mean interesting, I guess, in a way, to talk about what I'm thankful for and what we should be thankful for, but I feel like everyone's gonna probably make an episode about that.
00:01:50
Speaker
So today's episode we will talk about social media updates and I feel like I should make this like a common or like ongoing series about social media Like every once in a while I can talk about these so you guys can get educated and know what's coming up and what's going on and also I can you know remember this too and learn about it. So that's what we're gonna talk about today and Before that, let me talk a little bit update
00:02:21
Speaker
This update is going to be pretty short because not much really happened.
Navigating NYC's Housing Market
00:02:25
Speaker
But one thing that happened and I guess kind of working out is I officially picked out an apartment. So there was also a little bit tricky stuff going on because I was just trying to change my move-in date, not change my, like choose my move-in date for December.
00:02:44
Speaker
But like because the apartments that that was in the market that was already available the price kept changing because I was delaying my move-in date and I kept waiting for this one apartment because I really liked that apartment and I got the footage of that apartment and I didn't see this exact same apartment but like similar one when I was there.
00:03:04
Speaker
and every single day I kept checking because every day that you don't move in, the price moves on to the following date. So you can essentially delay your move in without having to pay as long as the unit is available.
00:03:21
Speaker
Imagine, everything that I was checking and UNIT was still available, and I was just waiting for it to move to just December 1st, so I can just apply for it. Guess what? Every single day I checked, I even checked yesterday, today I was checking UNIT was gone. That exact same UNIT was gone. I was like, wow. And I messaged the agent, and I called him, he's like, he also didn't know because I guess I'm gonna apply.
00:03:50
Speaker
So yeah, that unit is gone. Sadly, maybe it will be, because he said it's in pre-leasing, so there's a chance for it to be available if the application gets rejected. But I had to complete my application for another unit, which is like a few, I think it's just a few floors down. Not floor down, I mean a few units down. It's like in the same floor.
00:04:14
Speaker
Hopefully I will get that one. But yeah, that's like the main progress that happened. And the rest of it is gonna follow. So I'll keep you guys posted. It's gonna be a whole new series on my YouTube, most likely. Like Apartment Tour, Apartment Hunting. I haven't posted Apartment Hunting yet because I have the footage.
00:04:33
Speaker
But I'm not going to post the apartment that I'm choosing because that will be an apartment, the video of its own. But I want to make sure I get this apartment for sure, then I can post the apartment hunting video. But I have the content on that and I'm going to add some bits and pieces of it and like my experience with each unit or each building.
00:04:54
Speaker
Because it was also a helpful video for people who are who want to move to Miami So I feel like this would be really fun. So that's coming in a bit Probably like realistically it's gonna coming like in three weeks because I have some other videos I have to post but yeah that is update for now So yeah without further ado. Let's get on to today's social media updates
Instagram's New Creator Portfolio
00:05:18
Speaker
Okay, I think we should start with Instagram because they're going to have like the most updates so far. So let's get it over with. So the first one is creator portfolio. So if you don't know what this means, essentially a lot of creators or you want to be a creator, you need to have a media kit.
00:05:39
Speaker
This is something a lot of brands, they ask quite a lot, you know, they want to see your analytics, they want to see how many followers you have and like more from your analytics, you know, because followers they can see but like your engagement and like your demographic and stuff like that. Now you can do that inside of Instagram and they're starting to create a portfolio and you can like
00:06:02
Speaker
show your best work and everything and like with ads and like content that's being used in the ads and stuff like that. Then this one is actually very useful for business wise, I would say that. But I'm also trying to seize like how much of this is going to be used to be fair. Next one is notes. So, Instagram is kind of testing this and I don't have this feature personally, but I have the creator portfolio and I have already done it.
00:06:33
Speaker
Essentially, also, you're not going to see it unless you're a brand in the creator marketplace that are looking for a creator, because I thought it would be like all my profile and stuff, but no, it's just going to be mostly in the business side of Instagram. So this feature that I'm mentioning,
The Purpose of Instagram's 'Notes' Feature
00:06:50
Speaker
new one, though, is called Notes. This one is...
00:06:53
Speaker
Essentially like status. It's going to tell you like it's going to show up in the DMS like where you DM people and it's going to be like short video or short message essentially saying that like what you're feeling.
00:07:11
Speaker
kind of seems like an interesting feature, like a status update, but seems very much like Facebook, to be fair. And I'm kind of like, like, there's all these stories. So I don't know what's the need for this personally.
00:07:28
Speaker
That could be something, but not exactly keen on this update. Have to be honest, not exactly. So then Instagram has other features saying not interested option. So if someone sees your content and they're just like, fuck you. I don't like your content. You bore me to death. You can also, I mean, you can usually mute them, but now there is a button in where the three dots are. You can say not interested.
00:07:58
Speaker
Interesting feature, very interesting. Not necessarily say like I am so happy about this, but interesting feature.
00:08:08
Speaker
And there's one last one that I will mention this. This is like kind of weird one. And this is more to do with the business side of it too.
Instagram Reels Payment Changes
00:08:19
Speaker
So Instagram reels pay you if you guys didn't know about this. Now they're that they changed the update a little bit. So they pay you just like
00:08:30
Speaker
YouTube It has to be they never explained this before and they you only find out every other month Because they never like honestly just send you an update you have to find it yourself Before whenever you made money with reels doesn't matter if it was over $100 or something. They will send you the check I mean like they will deposit it to your PayPal or whatever you choose
00:08:52
Speaker
Nowadays, they changed our rule because I haven't gotten paid like for a couple, just two months, I think. Which I didn't know that one month I didn't make like a lot of TikTok, I mean a lot of Instagram reels, so that my balance was lower than $100. So that's why I apparently didn't get paid. So now they're making it seem like if you don't make $100 every month, just like how it is on YouTube ads,
00:09:15
Speaker
They're not going to send you the check. It's going to roll over to the next month. As soon as you hit $100, they will send you the payment on the 21st or 19th of the month. It honestly fluctuates a little bit, but I just want to mention that. And this is only available for US. So if you guys in different countries, it's not available.
00:09:36
Speaker
And this is another new information I received and I kind of like, wow, this is so crazy because I wasn't really expecting that other people are making millions out of it on Instagram. If you have more than one million followers on Instagram, you make nothing.
00:09:56
Speaker
like no money comes out of real bonus because this whole time I thought like there are some celebrities there were some people they were posting like you know like famous youtubers like Alicia Mary or Remi Cruz and they have like at least one has like one million for sure another one has like uh five or seven million oh my god so a lot of followers
00:10:16
Speaker
I thought they were making millions from posting rails because they were posting a lot of rails. Then I found out that they make nothing. Because if you have more than a million followers on Instagram, you get paid nothing. Because that's how cheap they are.
00:10:30
Speaker
Yep, just putting it out there. I had no idea. So because I was judging these people and I'm like, oh my god, they're making millions. Turns out they're just posting for fun because they don't make anything out of it, which is kind of crazy. And that's why now makes sense of why they're posting so many photo dumps because they don't get any money from reels. So why would they post reels?
00:10:49
Speaker
I guess you can just post for just the views, but yeah, you don't make money out of it, which is kind of crazy when you think about it. But yeah, that's what's happening.
The Instagram Verification Black Market
00:11:01
Speaker
There is one last thing that I would mention with Instagram. There's not necessarily an update, but some rumors and some stuff going on with Instagram. In case you guys didn't know, and I feel like I mentioned this at one point in the podcast, not in this episode or maybe not this year, but maybe last year,
00:11:19
Speaker
To get verified on Instagram, yeah, there's a verification button and everything, but most of the time, if you use that, you're not going to get verified unless you are on Forbes, which is a very high chance that even if you are on Forbes and you apply directly, you're not going to get approved for verification. So there's this black market out there for Instagram.
00:11:42
Speaker
And I say this black market because it's technically like not legit. There are PR companies who are doing this, but some of them are like very not super legit PR companies. But essentially they charge like an arm and leg, like $10,000, $15,000, which is an insane amount, right, for verification. Then
00:12:03
Speaker
There is also a chance that your verification could be gone and there have been recent stuff going on like this too, like people trying to get your information or blackmail using that like, oh, like I'm gonna block your account or I'm gonna suspend your account.
00:12:18
Speaker
if you don't pay me this much money and I know this sounds like scam but some people's account actually got suspended or like just blocked off because of this thing like there are hackers out there who are doing this and on top of it not just verification like taking some people's verification badge because
00:12:38
Speaker
The whole point of verification is to make sure it's you, but the fact that they are taking people's verification because of the suspension, so crazy. Because thank God this didn't happen to me, like knock on wood, but the time that Facebook or Instagram was down, some people's accounts were suspended too, apparently by accident, which is so ridiculous that it could happen by accident or by glitch. And yeah, then it came back, but it's so ridiculous that that happened.
00:13:08
Speaker
That's what I'm saying. It's like this platform is going down so bad. Like no one believes me when I say this and like it's not going to be around for much longer. Like they are definitely riding the last wave and it's coming. Like it's definitely coming. And speaking of that, this is kind of like end of the update for Facebook
TikTok's Growth Challenges
00:13:30
Speaker
and Instagram. But now let's move on to more on TikTok and YouTube because there is also a lot to cover in there as well.
00:13:38
Speaker
So with TikTok, it's not exactly an update, but something to mention. I think it has officially hit plateau, like in a point that there is not much growth anymore, which is true.
00:13:55
Speaker
I mean I hear this from everyone honestly not just me because I thought it was just me but it's in this point where Instagram was after just a couple years and like growth is not as much and like you don't see as much like fun stuff and like the views are kind of down it's like there's not much growth that's happening.
00:14:17
Speaker
It's because it lost, not like lost that, but it passed that point. This usually happens with every social media, to be honest, and that's why I want to put it out there. When it first comes, and if it is something people are interested in, it blows up, which that's what TikTok did. It was so popular, it was so like...
00:14:37
Speaker
Everyone was talking about it. It's like, oh my God, so good. I learned it from TikTok and stuff like that, which still happens these days. Not like it doesn't, but it has passed that point. That momentum is not there anymore. It is still being used a lot for sure, but the growth is not there.
00:14:56
Speaker
I experienced this, everyone experienced this, like getting like 200 or 300 views per video is like not good. Like there are times that at least once a week my video would pass over 1000 views.
00:15:12
Speaker
Not the case anymore because a lot of people are in TikTok right now and their growth is just like not happening It's just like I think the organic reach has decreased quite a lot and this is usually happens after the platform hits to that point Then they will need to use advertising because if I use advertising now Which I don't use it unless brands use my account to do the ads which they do and I've seen it It gets like 10,000 views 70,000 views 30,000 views like a lot of views
00:15:42
Speaker
because of ads, so they're giving a lot of reach for ads, but organic reach is definitely not there anymore. You only get like few, like, to your subscribers, I mean, your followers, but that's just kind of it. There's nothing else that's going on. But on the plus side, they have created something else, like subscription. TikTok, I mean, Instagram already created this, like you can subscribe to the content,
00:16:10
Speaker
TikTok is doing it differently, still a subscription, but it's like people are subscribing to see your live, subscription for lives.
TikTok's Subscription Model
00:16:21
Speaker
I feel like this is kind of cool because lives are something that you connect deeply with your audience and you get to know them more and like you talk more.
00:16:32
Speaker
It is very incentivizing to have that subscription model that you can make money with every time you go live and decent money not just like sense because I love tiktok lives but getting a couple roses even a hundred roses or whatever
00:16:50
Speaker
Sometimes we need to convert that to money because it's like coins or whatever. It's like maybe 50 cents. It's such a little amount. It's not even worth it to mention. I'll just say that. And Creator Fund is not even a lot. A lot of people even don't make a lot of money with Creator Fund because it's not ad-based service, which they are working on it supposedly.
00:17:13
Speaker
But I just want to put it out there that you guys know that subscription is definitely a great option. But it's only available for people who have gone live within the last week or so for at least 30 minutes or something. So keep that in account if you are not eligible to apply. That's why it's not like it's not there or you will see it, but you won't be able to say like open to subscription.
00:17:40
Speaker
To be fair, I haven't even tried it either. I really have to get back onto going live more regularly so people can actually subscribe to it because I wouldn't even subscribe to myself these days for live because I'm so inconsistent with it. So you have to be very, very consistent.
00:17:56
Speaker
I feel like a lot of people think that lives are very similar like stories and like the post but no, with lives you have to show up. It's like work and you have to have a consistent schedule and I feel like I haven't really done that which gives like people less reason to subscribe because once you subscribe you know they charge you monthly which again you can cancel it all the time like whenever you want.
00:18:18
Speaker
but like you have to first incentivize it to for them to for people to subscribe which I haven't done that so that's why I'm also curious to see how other people are doing it too but just want to put it out there the subscription is working there are other couple of other things that's going on on TikTok but they're very like not anything intense or anything like intense I mean anything like a very like a big update like Instagram
00:18:45
Speaker
Stories is still there, so there's not much is happening. I think what they are trying to do though, like trying to make it more search-based, and Instagram is working on that too. But with TikTok, it's like if there is a common keyword or whatever you're talking about in the video, it's going to show up on the top. Like if I'm talking about retinal, it's going to say retinal benefits or retinal something because it's read it from the video, from the caption or from the text. So it's becoming more like search.
00:19:14
Speaker
And if you write something in the comments, it also picks up that certain word that's popular or people have searched for, and you can use that as a search keyword. When you click on it, it becomes clickable. When you press on it, it shows you results of videos like YouTube search.
00:19:32
Speaker
Very cool. It's definitely working on becoming more like an SEO, like a search engine rather than a social media itself. And I feel like that's the future I am seeing with TikTok because it's such a short content. It is more digestible to find if you are looking for something that you want to get an answer versus like finding a YouTube video and like listening to like 10 minutes or longer.
00:20:00
Speaker
Now, speaking of that, let's move on to YouTube. This is the last update I promised and you guys will be able to log off from this podcast episode because it's already tiring for me. I'm saying it out there. And it's been only 20 minutes, barely 20 minutes. So YouTube is definitely on the right track and this is where the growth is.
Opportunities with YouTube Shorts
00:20:21
Speaker
If you listen to this podcast, you're gonna get a lot of advantage, or this episode, you're gonna get a lot of advantage over other people.
00:20:28
Speaker
If you didn't already know, YouTube is doing YouTube shorts and in the past YouTube shorts were like kind of like, well, it's not working. Like I would post YouTube shorts and we get maybe like 500 views, 100 views. Not great at all. Nowadays.
00:20:44
Speaker
I have probably posted only maybe two YouTube shorts. Wow, guys, growth is nice. Like, I mean, okay, it's not like 100,000 views, but like, at least one of them got, I think, 2.4K views. Another one got 3.6K views. Hasn't made money yet because, you know, the shorts are not eligible for monetization unless it's been viewed on the, like, on the website. Like, on the...
00:21:11
Speaker
It's like you can turn it on like monetization, but if you just read on the phone, I don't think you get money. If you read on the computer, maybe you get money because it can show the ads. I have to check on that, but essentially, think about it like YouTube source don't make money, but it's a great place for growth because I also gained some subscribers from it. Maybe 10 or 15 subscribers because I only post like two videos, but there's definitely huge growth potential here.
00:21:39
Speaker
People say like, oh, I'm gonna try to do it on YouTube or I mean on TikTok or something on Instagram, grow there. I have to be honest, Instagram and TikTok has lost that stage of their growth because it's already established and there are so many already established people.
00:21:58
Speaker
Now it's on to YouTube Shorts. This is where the growth is and that's why I'm focusing on. And also starting in, I think, February or something, they're gonna start paying people for their YouTube Shorts. So this is where gonna be the biggest growth is. So that's why I'm very excited and curious to see how that's gonna turn out. But this has helped me so much. Like just a week that I posted my YouTube Shorts. So I'm gonna double down on that and post more YouTube Shorts and see how it plays.
00:22:28
Speaker
Because biggest thing they did, which is very smart, just like Instagram did, separating shorts, like Instagram, it was rails and the regular posts. YouTube was before putting the shorts and regular videos, longer form videos in the same tab. It was under videos. Now it's not anymore.
00:22:48
Speaker
They are seeing YouTube shorts as a separate thing. It's like home, videos, shorts and other things. So shorts are completely in different tabs, so it doesn't ruin whatever the flow that you're going for with long form videos.
00:23:02
Speaker
which is great because this is where you can differentiate the audience, but also this is where you don't have to feel like, oh my god, I have to put a thumbnail on my YouTube shorts because that's where everyone was focusing on. They're like, oh, I have to put thumbnail, I have to do this, I have to put that, but not anymore. It's like kind of on its own, but it's within YouTube, but its own thing, its own platform, essentially, just like how Reels was.
00:23:25
Speaker
And I think that's why it's new and there's a lot of potential for it because YouTube is really focusing on that and it's gonna be great, I think. Well, my assumption. So we'll see how that goes, but just wanted to put it out there. These were some of the helpful things and tips and the updates that's going on from social media that I thought it would be interesting to put it on this episode. So I hope you guys like this episode. If you do, please don't forget to rate us on Apple Podcasts or wherever you get your podcasts.
00:23:55
Speaker
And I'll see you guys next week with another episode. Bye guys.
