Welcome, dear listener, to the adventures of Lelithysel and her sweet little flower dragon Thawne. This story is entirely created by my daughter Flossy, our Florence, who is eight.

The idea behind this podcast came about from a few things. One being the way I tell stories at bedtime. Basically just making them up as we go along. A challenge and a half but a lot of the time it's the days happenings that end up in the story.
00:01:01
Speaker
And also back in May, half term, we went up to stay with my sister-in-law in Northumberland and she booked us to go to this fantastic adventure playground called Lily Dory and its tagline is, what's your story? Where there was a storyteller there live on site who created stories with audience participation And it ended up being really random, amazing fun. We laugh so much, it's brilliant. And so these two things combined helped us create our own podcast story. And I do think it is a really fun listen.

Speaker
Flossie has worked on this for quite a while. She has thought of all the names. She has got a sketchbook full of the characters which she designed all on her own and named them and she's made big cover arts for the show album cover. She has worked really hard on this. She should be so proud of herself and really tough that she's been so creatively inspired by watching me do the Bell Witch podcast. It's lovely actually.
00:02:09
Speaker
It is designed as a bedtime story for children and so is short seven to ten minute installments per episode. 100% child friendly as it is created and designed by a child. The beginning does start with mostly me because she was a little bit nervous but as the episodes progress it becomes more and more flossy. As her confidence grows and her imagination gets wild you've got to forgive it for being a little bit random. Because the whole script is exactly how Florence spoke it to me as we recorded it. I do hope you enjoy it. Podcasting has made me just so happy recently. I am really chuffed that Florence is part of it now and she's felt what it's like to create something and love the process of doing it.
00:03:03
Speaker
And all I have done is edit filler words, pauses, background noises, added a few sound effects and also put in a little bit of the mission between when things didn't quite make sense just for context. But Floss's imagination ran wild and free and everything is her own unique ideas completely copyrighted to Florence. There is so much inspiration there.

If you are as impressed as I am as her bias mother and you'd like to show your appreciation you can donate to Florence through PayPal at emma.swales which is a tricky spelling it's s-w-a-i-l-e-s at ntlworld.com. That's my PayPal. If you put the reference Florence in it, I will make sure she gets 100% of the tips and she'll be just so happy that she's earned a little bit of money from this too. So yeah, please let me know if you enjoy it and catch me on the Belwich podcast, a bi-weekly podcast

Welcome to the adventure of Lily Thistle and her flower dragon. My name is Florence and this is my mum, Ease Wales. Hi. And we are going to tell you about our pigs, you friend, Lily Thistle and her pet dragon, Thorn.
00:05:13
Speaker
Once upon a time in a land far away there was a little pixie. A little pixie who lived in a big kingdom in a beautiful city called Tiposia. This pixie was a lovely little soul.
00:05:29
Speaker
named Lily Thistle. She had beautiful golden wings that trailed behind her a little bit like a beautiful robe. Lily Thistle was a kind-hearted pixie and she had a little pet dragon called Thorn. Thorn Thistle to be precise.
00:05:47
Speaker
Thornfistle was a flower dragon, a little baby one that followed her everywhere she went. She'd go around the kingdom doing princess-like jobs and chores with a little dragon trailing behind her, whistling and making strange dragon noises.
00:06:06
Speaker
Thawne was Lily's best friend in the whole world. You see, Lily didn't really have any friends. She lived alone in a beautiful big castle on a hill surrounded by paintings and jewellery and huge big crowns in glass cases in the walls. Her parents had gone away on a business adventure and although it was only for a short time it seemed like an eternity.
00:06:36
Speaker
sad and alone, missing her mum and dad. Lily decided she was going to go and meet some friends and invite people to come and live in her massive castle because the loneliness, even though she had Thorne, was just too big and she needed some friends.
00:06:57
Speaker
And so one day, Lily packed a little pixie bag and they headed out towards the woods making sure the castle kingdom door was locked and bolted. Lily Fissle was excited as she bid farewell and goodbye. The adventure had begun.
00:07:21
Speaker
And they passed by a house And the it attracted Lily, so she went towards it and knocked on the door. She said, is anyone there? And someone came you out. It was a god.
00:07:38
Speaker
She was really frightened but he said he is not going to hurt her. This goblin lived in a huge scary looking goblin house with big doors and huge long windows that reached up to the roof. Dead plants near the doors and a kind of funny smell that started to tickle his nose.
00:08:03
Speaker
Lily had the urge to run away but she knew it wouldn't be very kind so she asked him are you okay and he said yes I am thank you very much would you like to come inside so she went inside to explore the goblins house waiting for the right moment to asked him whether he could come to her castle. But Lily knew she had to take her time and also Thorne was a little bit scared of this big goblin. For when you think of a goblin, what comes to mind? Large eyes, scales on his back, horns down his spine. Giant fangs.
00:08:46
Speaker
and an unpleasant smell. But as she was a princess Lily had impeccable manners and so when invited into the goblins house she sat on his big scary throne covered in animal skin and made a light conversation.
00:09:04
Speaker
He said would you like a cup of tea? Lily didn't know whether to say yes or no because she didn't think it would be very nice for a goblin to make her a cup of tea because it might be made out of like animal skins or something. It could be a broth of bone and skull with snot or bugs hidden within a grotty, gross soup. But she took a chance and she said, yes, I'll have a cup of tea. And then Kanellie asked, and also, can I have your name? My name is Hendrix, said the big goblin.
00:09:42
Speaker
Oh that's a, oh okay hi Hendrix said Lily a little bit taken back by the boom in his voice but alas he was a nice goblin it seemed even though his big house was dark and dungy and a little bit smelly he seemed like a pleasant chap and so she said yes to tea and then Lily said yes to dinner as well and pudding and then at the end of the night it got dark and Hendrix said You have to stay here at the night. It's very dark outside. You don't know who is in them woods. And Lily took a gulp.
00:10:23
Speaker
o and looked at Thorn who was a very knowledgeable dragon who give her a nod ever so slightly and Lily agreed yes I'll stay the night and then perhaps tomorrow we can have a talk over breakfast about something very important I'd like to ask you oh how exciting is that said Hendrix then looking around She politely asked, where shall I sleep? And he said on the sofa. She was a bit surprised because the sofa was a little bit messy because he wasn't expecting visitors. And so Lily, bedding down for the night, laid on the sofa which was pretty big and like a bit of a double bed for a little pixie such as her. She closed her eyes as Hendrix turned the light out and fell into a deep restful sleep.
00:11:40
Speaker
part two the next day. She woke up in the morning and went up to the table and she thought Hendrik would already be there but he wasn't. She looked all the way around the house twice but couldn't find him anywhere. She got very upset because Hendrik might have run away in the night and left her all on her own.
00:12:04
Speaker
But then she heard a noise. So she looked out the window and it was Hendrik. He was just collecting vegetables for breakfast. Hendrik came in and said, what's wrong? Because she was crying. And she said, I thought you left me. And he was like, why would I leave you? who wanted to be my friend. I can't just abandon someone that I might be become friends with and so she gave him a big hug and then she sat down at the table and she said, do you remember that thing that I said last night about that there was but something very important I need to tell you? Well, I'll talk about it now.
00:12:42
Speaker
Do you want to come and state my castle? It's very big and spacious and I'm going on a quest to collect friends to come and live with me because it's very empty and lonely in there. Hendrix of course was taken back by this suggestion.
00:13:00
Speaker
He hadn't thought that he'd get such an amazing invite so early in the morning. He was so taken back that he almost fell off his chair after he'd put his vegetables down on the table and sat down and she began to tell Hendrix all about the amazing land of Tipozia where she's from and this beautiful castle that she lives in all on her own.
00:13:23
Speaker
Hendrix couldn't quite believe that this was possible, that all his dreams had come true, this was the offer of a lifetime. But he didn't answer straight away, as he didn't want to presume this was real for a start, but also he didn't want to look like he was desperately lonely too and so he made breakfast with the vegetables he had just picked from his lovely garden which happened to be potatoes and carrots cucumbers and spinach Lily found they'd made such a tasty breakfast
00:13:58
Speaker
so healthy but she couldn't totally enjoy it as she was waiting for Hendrix to answer her and the way it seems to go on forever and ever and ever Lily knew that this was a gamble to invite a big mighty goblin such as Hendrix to come live in a kingdom of pixies and fairies but she felt it was right in her little pixie heart and so didn't falter from her decision.
00:14:29
Speaker
She struggled to answer if it was correct to have asked a goblin that might have been very mean to come and live there. He might just to destroy everything or ruin her life more. But she knew he couldn't have just been this kind and tricked her.
00:14:50
Speaker
Eventually, after all the breakfast was eaten and all the plates were washed up and back in the cupboards where they belonged, Lily paused and looked at the goblin for a long time, expectantly wanting him to answer her question. Hendrix took a deep breath and said in his booming voice, wow, it's a very kind offer, Miss Lily.
00:15:17
Speaker
I do believe it is my fate to move in with such a kind-hearted soul such as yourself. Lily was overjoyed. She felt that it was the right thing. Her little flower dragon did somersaults in the air with his little teeny tiny flower wings and they all had a glass of special goblin tea to celebrate.
00:15:40
Speaker
the next day she thought maybe she shouldn't go home with a goblin just yet but maybe she should collect more friends she asked the goblin do you know anyone else that lives in the woods near you that you've like to be with. He didn't really want to answer. He did have lots of friends but what if the friends were mean to her? So he said yes I do but they're kind of a little bit strange and might not want to come to your castle.
00:16:18
Speaker
but then he thought I might not ever see them again if they don't come with me. This was a very very difficult thing for him to answer to himself. He thought well let's go and try anyways but promise me you won't be asking questions and you might get a bit mad.
00:16:38
Speaker
But Lily was overjoyed at this suggestion. Quickly grabbed her things and waited at the door with her little flower dragon. And then Hendrix realised, oh she's in a bit of a rush and so I had to collect all his things together. Knocking over plates and smashing the TV by mistake. Oh it was such a ruckus, he just wasn't ready. In the haste. Never mind, I'll get a new one when I move until your amazing new house.
00:17:05
Speaker
As they shut the door, Lily felt really proud of herself that she'd started making friends so quickly, so easily. Before she knew it, they were walking down a town of lots of goblin and troll houses. A busy goblin marketplace with dead fish and a smelly snail bowl of eyeball cocktails and newspapers written on toilet roll.
00:17:29
Speaker
and it was a bit of a strange thing to see but being the confident little pixie that she was she took it all in her stride he said one of my friends is a troll but he's a bit big and he does makes a lot of clumsy moves he might break something very very very valuable in your castle if you bring him there hmm Lillian Thorne stopped and gazed at Hendrix questionably, wondering what exactly he was trying to say. Anyway, there's no chance he is going to say yes. But the pixie said what if he does say yes? Lillie couldn't hide her excitement at this suggestion. She did a little pixie bounce from her heels, which often seemed springy when she were happy. Although Hendrix just wasn't sure.
00:18:21
Speaker
And they had this conversation while they were standing at the door ready to press the doorbell. The goblin's finger hovered over the button. but Maybe we should just skip him, said Hendrik. Lily said, but I really, really, really desperately need to make more friends. Please, Sam, will you just try to ask him? So they did. They rang the doorbell.
00:18:48
Speaker
And a giant stomp came down. Boom. Boom. Boom. And he opened the door.
00:19:28
Speaker
part three at the stranger's door lily thistle her dragon thorn and her new friend hendrix are stood at the door of possibly their next friend or are they
00:19:50
Speaker
As the big heavy door opened, a huge dark figure towered in the doorway. It looked like a giant, but it was, in fact, a huge scary looking troll. But who's to judge? Never judge a book by its cover. Hello, I'm Lily.
00:20:14
Speaker
and he rudely said, what is your purpose of being here? I, Bogglebridge, are not happy to have visitors. But Lily stood there and made quiet observations. His head was touching the ceiling. Lily thought he might have to move. His house was so tiny and he was so large.
00:20:41
Speaker
Lily almost thought immediately he he would say yes. Feeling rather nervous at the current situation before him, Hendrix reminded his friend Bogglebridge the troll. And I'm your friend, remember? Hendrix tried to smile but still had lots of nerves flowing.
00:21:01
Speaker
The troll's face changed and he smiled a sinister grin. Come in, come in. I love guests but this might have not been such a good idea. What's going to happen? They all came into his house.
00:21:21
Speaker
and they looked around and there were lots of cages and things that usually are not very necessary to go in a house. Bogglebridge stopped abruptly in his stride, turned around and once again rudely said, What is your purpose of being here? I, Bogglebridge, are not happy to have visitors. Or maybe it should be you that's not happy to have me. And he pulled a lever and they fell into a massive cave. o Oh no. What do we do now? This was a horrible trick. Poor Lily started to cry. Her positivity was dwindling. I should have said we should have gone, I'm sorry. It's okay Lily, said Hendrix. As he reassured the little pixie by patting her on her shoulder, looking around at a way to get out of this mess. Hendrix was very surprised that his only friend, you could say it's his best friend, had betrayed him. The troll was feeling mighty powerful.
00:22:33
Speaker
He said, I betray you because you are not allowed to be in my house with a useless silly little pixie. All they ever do is cause mischief and break things and steal things. It was clear that he had been misinformed.
00:22:55
Speaker
Ellie was very heartbroken to hear all of these bad things told about her even though she had such good manners and was very kind and it might have been the only moment in her life that she would want to be with Hendrix while something dangerous happened.
00:23:15
Speaker
Lily just couldn't believe that she'd got herself into this position but at least she had Thorne and Hendrix by her side. She watched in horror as the last bit of light disappeared when the big door closed. And everything went dark. But wait! It wasn't as dark as they thought as their eyes adjusted to the tiny light coming from the corner.
00:23:43
Speaker
He forgot to bring his lantern with him so his lantern was still lit down there so everything wasn't so dark anymore. They looked around for little pieces of rocks that they could climb and break the trapdoor. It wasn't very good because he had put a hidden rock that had a button underneath and they accidentally pressed it. And then two rocks rose and then a giant puddle of lava started to rise.
00:24:13
Speaker
Oh no! They thought this might be the end. But it might not be because there was another button. So they thought it might stop the lava if they press it. So they pressed it. But it just made the lava go quicker.
00:24:31
Speaker
What is going to happen? They found the key. How lucky is that? He had left the key on side the trapdoor. like re we with little hol and They take it. So they reached through and unlocked it. They were free.
00:24:47
Speaker
but the lava wouldn't stop going. That's the one thing that Bogglebridge had forgot to fix. The lava just kept flowing and flowing and flowing. And then they shouted, Bogglebridge, get out of the house now! There's lava everywhere! And he had just realized his gigantic mistake that he had not remembered to make a button to stop the lava.
00:25:13
Speaker
So just go on forever. It was a tale of karma. So they ran out of the house and soon it burned down to pieces. Bogglebridge was very upset and he ran away. They knew that they were not going to go near Bogglebridge again. And hoped that their paths would never cross this mean old troll ever again.
00:26:04
Speaker
Part four. A lucky escape. We find Lily Fissle, Thorn, the Flower Dragon and Hendrix finally safe from the evil troll named Boggle Bridge who tried to trap them in the basement of his grim dark house. But luckily they ended up escaping unharmed. Unlike Boggle Bridge's house that is.
00:26:31
Speaker
So they carried on through the forest and into the unknown. And they ran away from Bogglebridge's house really really quickly.
00:26:43
Speaker
they were really frightened that lava was going to come and spill on them. Before them stood a huge dense forest and none of them hesitated to run towards the trees that seemed friendly right then as they ran away from the house of a lava into the deep dark woods of trees and forest and animals.
00:27:09
Speaker
and they were walking for hours and then they heard Russell a twig snap.
00:27:16
Speaker
from the bushes and they went towards it in lilya o open bush and and you look inside. Lily opened up the bushes and they saw a giant swarm of berries and they were almost microscopic. Wow, I didn't expect that. They were just so small that all you could hear when they spoke was
00:27:45
Speaker
and one of the fairies handed them a little gadget underneath the fairy spoke and then it translated it because they were so small they couldn't possibly hear what they were saying it was a magic gadget that magnified tiny little fairy speak to normal size pixie speak so they used the translator to help them read what they were saying and they said
00:28:26
Speaker
And they both said yes of course we would be more than joy to help you. How can we help you? And the fairies didn't actually know the answer to this.
00:28:37
Speaker
because they didn't know what was trying washing their houses. It was a conundrum, but the new dream team knew that they could help these little fairies. They said this is what happens. This is what the animal does, that we don't know what's trying to get us. First of all, it squashes our houses and hoping that there's a fairy inside so they can eat it. Hmm, thought Lily Thistle. Could it be a hungry badger?
00:29:06
Speaker
we are just lucky but next time we might not be lucky so this mystery creature you've got to find out what it is so they all went to look around yes it was time to investigate and all they saw was a frog, not just any frog, a magical frog that could jump into the air and stay up for one hour in the air. Wow, that's impressive. And they said, that can't be the problem. But they didn't know that it wasn't just stepping on their houses. Something was jumping on their houses. The fairy said,
00:29:50
Speaker
ma that us because we're kind of a bit like flis and rocke flies flies you know kind of a little link up so they said what do we do how do we get rid of it So they caught it in the net and then the fairies wrapped it in a bag that wasn't tied. So the frog was kind of like in a comfortable hammock, having a very nice relaxing time. And they put it in nearby pond. Well it wasn't nearby because that people still get them. So they they walked for a few minutes and they found a pond that was massive and it had lots of other animals like bugs and
00:30:38
Speaker
Lots of other joyous froggy related things that a frog might cherish in his new home pond. Especially a magical frog that could leap long distances without breaking a sweat. It was a job well done and Lily Thistle and her little gang was very happy with the outcome. They let the frog go hoping that it wouldn't go back to the bear.
00:31:03
Speaker
There were lots of flies that I could eat. The fairies were very safe now and Lily thought the thing she asked. They said we should take you to our 100 year old fairy queen. So they went over to her palace and said these goblin and Lily the pixie saved us and we wanted you to thank them for us because it was a frog that was trying to get us.
00:31:33
Speaker
Look, we've got a frog. What? That's impossible. Frogs are... Oh, wait. We're tiny. We're tinier than frogs. Right. and She began to think that she was wrong and that it would have been a frog because he was jumping on her houses. So she said, thank you very much. And Lily said, can I ask you a question, Your Majesty? And she said, yes, what's the question? He said,
00:32:02
Speaker
Can you come and live at our palace? It's very nice and it's very big and lonely so we're on a quest to find lots of friends. We just visited somebody and they they tried to kill us. Obviously they wanted roasted pixie so they said let us have a think about it. We did spend a very long time on our village and well can we bring all of our things to your house?
00:32:32
Speaker
What if it seems too big for us? Because we're only tiny, remember? We're only microscopic. Almost microscopic. So they thought about it. And they thought, well what if they're trying to trick us? It was true that fairies were very cautious And they took a while to decide whether or not to go live with Lily Thistle and all her friends in her beautiful castle in the hills. But finally, after three days of thinking, they said, okay, but you have to promise us one thing. Lily Thistle sat up and listened to the fairies intently, her dragon close behind her, all ears on the fairy queen.
00:33:18
Speaker
You're going to pick up all of our houses and move them without breaking them into your palace. But if you forget a single thing, I will not go and get it. And the fairies were very upset and we will leave. OK? Lily nodded enthusiastically. OK, they agreed. And they said, do you want to go and find more friends? More? How big is this palace of yours? Lily giggled. Very big.
