Season Finale Reflections
00:00:01
Speaker
On another exciting episode of the Animation Delibration Podcast, our adventures of Season 1 have concluded as we talk about Season 1, Episode 10 of My Adventures with Supermane. We got lots of thoughts and so do our listeners. We're going to get to that right up to you as we have no control over. Sing along if you know the words. One, two, three, it's time for animation deliberation. A conversation and a celebration of our favorite action animated series. Yeah.
00:00:31
Speaker
Yeah, welcome back to another episode of Animation Deliberation, the podcast where we take action animation and cartoon seriously, but not too seriously. We're your hosts, I'm Zuhar Ali. And my name's Jay Scottie Sinclair. And despite being a zombie today, Jay Scottie's vocals always boost me up. So I'm Amped. This has been a great episode. It's been a great show, a great season. How are you feeling about this finale?
00:00:53
Speaker
Yeah, I have been over the moon about this show since episode one, and this finale wasn't really too different.
00:01:03
Speaker
I guess some kind of of two minds on it. It was surprisingly like high stakes and low stakes at the same time.
Finale's Balance of Stakes
00:01:09
Speaker
And it was a very pleasant finale and it answered a lot of questions while also asking a lot of questions and move the story forward. And I feel like, you know, this season ended with all of our main players having, you know, made some significant progress. But I do feel like the season kind of maybe like peaked in terms of like the conflict in the storytelling a couple of episodes ago.
00:01:30
Speaker
in terms of like, you know, Superman saving Metropolis and being saved by Metropolis. So this kind of felt like kind of, um, I guess like a prologue or something like that to the end of the story, just like a nice little tack on to set things up for a future season. So in that sense, it wasn't my absolute favor of the season, but it was still, there's not been a single episode of the show that I haven't liked. And, uh, in that sense, I, I enjoyed this, this finale. How about you? Where are you landing?
Energy and Intensity of the Finale
00:01:55
Speaker
Yeah, that's fair. I think my main adjective when telling people to watch the show is that is delightful. And it hasn't lost that energy at all, but it has mixed it up and have trying to add intense stories. Yeah.
00:02:10
Speaker
And I'm kind of on the same boat where it's like when the action kicked in, like I was very invested in what was going on, but it seemed like we already hit our climax and then it was just kind of like more of a fall off. And as you said, setting up the next bit. Right. So this is almost like a recap of like this is everything that's happened. This is the situation that we're in. And this is what we're going to start going into instead of like this is our last shebang. And then here's your cliffhanger for next
Nostalgic Humor and References
00:02:38
Speaker
She bang, she bang. Oh, baby, when she moves, she moves. I go crazy. Because she float like a Kryptonian, she sting like a... I don't know. I lost it. For those that recognize that reference, let's like...
00:02:56
Speaker
William hung from the early seasons of American Idol. I'm dating myself there. Did she float like a super girl? There we go. Hey, could be, could be. All right. Well, yeah, so it sounds like we kind of landed in the same place there. Pretty pleased, but not, you know, as I've said before, didn't absolutely knock my socks off. So that's probably a good juncture for us to go ahead and get spoilery starting with the synopsis and then we can move on to some feedback.
00:03:24
Speaker
Yeah, this was my adventures with Superman episode 10 titled hearts of the fathers, which I will say I saw that title before seeing the episode. And I think it's, it gave me certain expectations, especially with one character that we're going to talk about later.
Episode 10: Hearts of the Fathers
00:03:41
Speaker
Okay. Yeah. Oh. Yeah. I have something to say on your behalf. Okay. I'll be interested to hear that. But it's on the spoiler part, so. Okay. Okay. Sounds good. All right. So again, this is your spoiler warning, kicking off the synopsis in three, two, one.
00:03:58
Speaker
Haunted by nightmares about zero day, Clark swears to halt any invasion. After Perry officially promotes Clark, Lois, and Jimmy to reporters for their article on Ivo's defeat, they have Thanksgiving dinner with Clark's parents. I was going to say the Kents, but Clark's parents. Lois invited her father, General Sam Lane, who fails to recognize Clark.
00:04:19
Speaker
When Jimmy tries to talk with Lois and Clark, he drops the file X, revealing the Superman recordings to a devastated Clark and exposing him to Kryptonite.
00:04:30
Speaker
Clark's space pod also reacts, rising and sending a signal that prompts an invasion similar to Zero Day. While Superman and Sam battle the invaders, Jimmy deduces that the crystal also hurts them, them being the invaders, to which a weakened Superman takes the crystal to destroy the mothership, halting the invasion as the hologram of his father helps him return to Earth.
Jimmy's Millionaire Moment
00:04:50
Speaker
Sam prepares to kill Superman, but Lois pleads for his life and reminds her father that Superman just saved them, causing Sam to leave. At dinner, Jimmy reveals he sold his flame bird channel to the Daily Planet, becoming a millionaire. Across the universe, Brainiac informs a nemesis Omega of the rebellious Earth, but an undeterred nemesis vows that they will all kneel.
00:05:17
Speaker
Alright, so the quick thoughts before I get into dots thoughts you called it. I Screamed that when that reveal came out like I said, I'm just in zombie mode right now So I wasn't even thinking about it and the door opened and I was like So that definitely gave me a lot of life yeah, and then I shifted into a
00:05:42
Speaker
how does a newspaper have $5 million to give for a channel right now? That definitely gave me a little bit of a giggle. I don't know where you found the $5 million, but clearly you're finding sources to get those numbers up. I guess the social media plunge is the way to do it. Apparently, Perry has been playing second fiddle to
00:06:08
Speaker
I'm forgetting the goth and Vicki Vale. He's been playing second fiddle to Vicki Vale for many years, but apparently the Daily Planet is doing all right, if it's got that expenditure, that kind of budget. Yeah, right. Or just goes to show the absolute fervor there is for Superman news, because I remember a couple episodes ago, Jimmy was like, oh, a million followers, a million more followers. It's like, okay, buddy, keep doing what you're doing. As long as these subscribers keep coming in, are these followers?
00:06:37
Speaker
But yeah, I, you know, that many followers people. Yeah. Right. Yeah. Let's, let's, uh, yeah. Let's replicate flame bird success here. It's a grassroots campaign starting right here right now. But yes, talking about Jimmy, I do feel like, you know, um, compared to some of the other episodes of the season, I felt like this one was a little bit lighter on the humor, but all the humor was pretty much relegated to Jimmy.
Thanksgiving Chaos and Humor
00:07:01
Speaker
I love that scene where he first arrived at the house and like everyone was like using them as like,
00:07:06
Speaker
him as like the emotional support person, just like everyone dragging him from room to room like, Jimmy, Jimmy, I need this, Jimmy, I need this. Even the kents, like Ma Kent was like, I can't stand Lewis's father. And then the one that really got me was with Jonathan came when he had been talking about this turkey the whole time and he brings Jimmy over and he's like, Jimmy, I gotta be honest with you.
00:07:27
Speaker
the turkey is not getting up to temp. And of all the drama and all the stakes of this episode, I love that that was like his thrust in this episode was just taking care of the turkey. Like many patriarchs and families, I imagine on Thanksgiving, that is their sole purpose and responsibility on that day.
00:07:48
Speaker
Yeah, the way he was sitting with his legs crossed like a monk just sitting and observing, just like watching the progression of the turkey in the oven was so cute. Yes, yes, yes. And then it's like, we know that he's like the forgiving one, but like when the argument was going on in the background, he was like, what am I supposed to do? I was like, oh, just forgive him. That's what we always do. Now I'm worried about this turkey. Oh, yeah, when Clark was like...
00:08:10
Speaker
Yeah, I remember what you're talking about. Clark was like, yeah, what do I do if there's someone that really hates me? And then I think Ma was like, Clark, you can't hate your girlfriend's father. And it's like, well, what would you do? And Jonathan's response was, well, I would make him my friend. Like, oh, it's just that simple. It's like, oh, shucks, you good old simple town folk.
00:08:31
Speaker
I love your optimism. In terms of the reveals we got in this episode, I was kind of similar to you. I feel like it became increasingly obvious as we got towards the end of the season, but it was validating to see that my prediction came true. It was nice to know that they didn't bait and switch us or anything like that.
Speculations on Invaders
00:08:53
Speaker
Yeah, and I guess apart from that,
00:08:58
Speaker
I mean, I don't want to gloss over the events of the episode per se, but I really feel like the end, that was the big revelations there. I know we got some listener feedback that's going to address it as well, but I remember we talked about the possibility of Zod being involved with the zero-day invasion, and with that line of dialogue at the end, they will kneel. We all, that's basically saying, how do you tell me it's Zod without saying it's Zod? You use the word kneel, and then we all know.
00:09:29
Speaker
Yeah, I know I mentioned Zod a lot in past episodes, but now I'm wondering where and how the Brainiac connection is, especially because when the ship got activated, like that was a symbol of like the three circles and lines. And I haven't read the feedback yet because I didn't want to like taint my thoughts that I wanted to share before going into it. Sure.
00:09:52
Speaker
if that makes sense. So I literally just watched the episode like 10 minutes ago. And that was where like, my intrigue is, is like, I know I mentioned the similarities with Dragon Ball Z earlier. And I'm wondering if that's the case even more because like, in Dragon Ball Z, it was Frieza who took over the Saiyans and the Saiyans were kind of doing their things, but under Frieza's empire.
Kryptonian Technology and Brainiac Theories
00:10:19
Speaker
So now I'm wondering if like,
00:10:21
Speaker
the conquering Kryptonians are slave to whatever Frieza equivalent would be, even if it is like a Brainiac or AI that they developed that kind of found a way to control Kryptonians like through technology. Yeah. So
00:10:40
Speaker
I don't know. My theories are just kind of, for someone who doesn't know too much about Superman comics and Superman villains outside of like the old animated stuff, like my brain's just kind of all over the place trying to come up with that. But that's just a fun thing to do too. Yeah, yeah. No, I appreciate where you're coming from. And this was honestly one of the few episodes that like all the other episodes I've talked about, I've had the opportunity to watch at least a couple of times.
00:11:05
Speaker
And I just didn't have time to rewatch this one this week. So you're probably coming in on this one a little bit fresher than I am. But in terms of the feedback, I know one piece in particular, like that came in before the finale. So we'll read that one before the other ones just to kind of give it its proper placement there.
00:11:23
Speaker
Yeah, in terms of Brainiac, I know I don't think I mentioned him recently, but like as far back as like maybe like the within like the first three episodes was seeing this technology that was on display. I remember postulating Brainiac was a possibility. But either way, it's just very clear that like, you know, as much as the show is doing things differently than some previous depictions of Krypton and Superman that we've seen, the one thing that's clear is like these Kryptonians are incredibly like
Superman's Powers and Kryptonian Suits
00:11:50
Speaker
technologically advanced, like they rely on technology very heavily, even with like the battle suits that you see, like we haven't even seen Zod's face. Like he kind of looks like a cyborg kind of like character from what we've seen so far. But the route that I'm thinking, I like the analogy that you brought up comparing like Brainiac potentially to Freezer or something like that. Cause we've, we've definitely seen, you know, Brainiac like injustice comes to mind where he basically
00:12:17
Speaker
takes over and enslaves certain cultures to preserve them in his collection of knowledge there. But with the Kryptonians focusing so heavily on technology in this one, I'm leaning more towards, I got more of a subservience relationship for Brainiac to Zod. So I'm thinking that maybe Brainiac is actually a Kryptonian creation, which I think you alluded to as well. Maybe he's
00:12:44
Speaker
you know, not full on Ultron where he's like become aware and and rebelled or betrayed. But I wouldn't be surprised if we saw like warring factions of Krypton and one who like they placed all their their hopes and dreams and aspirations into weapon based technology and maybe Brainiac was kind of born of that and guided their their future forward. I'll see. I'm actually thinking it is like what if Ultron?
00:13:12
Speaker
Okay, like he fully took over and now he like rules Kryptonians type of thing That could totally be a possibility as well. I'm not ruling that out. Yeah, very what could be Yeah, intrigue and also like do you think that this version of Kryptonians is similar to Man of Steel in the sense that there's something about earth that gives them powers and that's why they wear the suits and
00:13:35
Speaker
Maybe something about yellow Sun or I think we've seen the yellow Sun Demonstrated if I'm not mistaken. Yes, like Have we I guess I guess I was thinking back. Oh, yeah, it was the episode with
00:13:50
Speaker
the brain and Monsieur Mala, because he was in that facility that was blocking out the rays of the yellow sun, therefore he wasn't as powerful. So that was kind of our first instance of that. In terms of the suits, that's a good question. I'm not sure. It could be something like Manisteal, where I think if I'm correct me if I'm wrong, but I think that their suits also kind of like help them
00:14:11
Speaker
tune out some of like the input they were getting because they're, you know, their senses and their ability to see like a full spectrum is so intense when they first, if they're not acclimated to earth, it's overwhelming. Could be something like that. Yeah. Cause I basically passed out and that's when they had a retreat because his helmet cracked. So he started being able to hear everybody. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. You could be onto something there.
00:14:37
Speaker
Just because we haven't seen anything like except for the helmet just kind of coming off for a quick second for that reveal Right and all of this like if the theory is correct that Brainiac is what's taking over right now That could I mean he called him a rebel too, right?
00:14:55
Speaker
You would know better than I would. I think Jarell could be the rebel that
Kryptonian Motives and Jor-El's Role
00:15:00
Speaker
Brainiac is referring to. Could be. And instead of Jarell being a part of conquering Earth, he was actually trying to stop the conquering nature of the people. OK. Like instead of like maybe Krypton is trying to find a new home because the story is typically like Krypton, you know, gets destroyed. Right. So maybe like.
00:15:23
Speaker
Yeah, maybe that's why they were trying to conquer, like to try to find a new place, but Jarell didn't like the method. So a lot of speculation. I like, I like it. Yeah. Yeah. You bring up some interesting points and I, so let's tackle Jarell first. Like I did find myself like.
00:15:42
Speaker
So I remember talking earlier on in the episode like I thought it was entirely possible that we might see a different depiction of Jor-El where Jor-El could actually be a bad guy because obviously we have Lois dealing with a father that does some things that she doesn't approve of and kind of they're at odds for lack of a better term there. So I thought we might see that parallel
00:16:04
Speaker
with Superman and Jor-El. But after this episode, I do think that's one of the things that I really appreciated as far as takeaways from this episode is it became pretty clear to me that Jor-El is actually heroic and cares about his son and wants to protect his son and is not an evil Kryptonian for lack of a better way of describing that.
00:16:25
Speaker
but you talking about like the end of Krypton so like that is always part of the story like whether it's like you know they mind their core to the point where it implode it implodes or for some other reason I'm getting the impression with this one and it may or may not be connected to Brainiac and the development of that technology but
00:16:42
Speaker
The kryptonite, the way we see it behave in this world and the way that Jor-El reacts to the kryptonite, he calls it like, oh, the green poison, he's familiar with it. And the fact that the way Clark reacts to it with the green crystalline shards actually appearing on his skin and even the Kryptonian robots, they react the same way.
00:17:04
Speaker
It just makes me wonder what is the origin of kryptonite in this one?
Kryptonite's Origins and Impact
00:17:08
Speaker
And did kryptonite take over their planet? And that's why they have to wear those suits and that's why they all escaped Someone just like landed a kryptonite nuke in there something like that. Yeah, I wouldn't be surprised Yeah, maybe it was sod's faction. That's why they have that whole get up Interesting yeah
00:17:30
Speaker
ripe for mining and pardon the pun there, that wasn't even intended, but ripe for the mining in season two, I think. I don't know if I have too much more, I was just really happy with the season.
00:17:45
Speaker
Yeah, glad to hear it. I'm right there with you. I guess one last thing I want to touch on, and it's not of super significance before we move on to feedback is... Yeah, right. That was not intentional at all, but I could not help but make the comparison between Ma Kent and Izuku Midoriya's mother. They just have the same energy to me.
00:18:09
Speaker
That's cute. I like that. Yeah. Yeah. They're so concerned for their sons and they see their sons. They do have these very altruistic sons that are generally like, you know, really good guys, but they just like, they're my perfect little angel. I don't want anything bad to ever happen to them. I love that. I'm gonna love that.
00:18:29
Speaker
mama Martha has for lowest two that she was just so proud of her and the writing and all that stuff and just the gratefulness for like taking care of him because he was always scared he was gonna hurt somebody and just yeah a little perspective in the way that she just like comes up behind him and gives him the kiss on the cheek and says that she'll help almost just it was just so wholesome
00:18:47
Speaker
Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. Yeah, that's why this show is described as delightful like You'll enjoy it for the nature of it is like you don't don't expect it to be like an action-packed show I don't even try to compare it to young justice because I think they are two very different genres, but oh sure The energy of this show is just it's very nice
Secrets and Truth Dynamics
00:19:07
Speaker
Agreed. And I thought I had said everything I wanted to say, but you mentioned how Martha Kent treated Lois. And maybe we haven't talked about Lois quite enough, but I did appreciate the fact that even though Lois and Clark have declared their love for each other and whatnot, their first instinct is still
00:19:28
Speaker
to like hide things from each other. So she's hiding this like X file from him and he's hiding the fact that her father's the general and then it just like, again, like Jimmy, he's not gonna take that abuse anymore. He's like, no, before I get dragged into any more drama, thank me for my emotional security, my emotional maturity.
00:19:48
Speaker
Your father is the general, thank you. Let's just get out ahead of that, which I appreciate because this show really has been kind of like, there have been secrets here and there, but for the most part, again, I think the namesake of the show being My Adventures with Superman, this is finding out who Superman is, and part of the character of Superman is truth, truth, justice, and we won't say the American way, but just the good way of being. So yeah, the fact that- Ideal American way.
00:20:18
Speaker
Yeah, sure, sure. The way any, any, you know, country ought to aspire to be.
Sponsorship and Hydration Highlight
00:20:25
Speaker
But yeah, just the fact that, you know, like they are, they are reporters now and Jimmy seems to be the only one that really has this handle on like making sure the truth absolutely gets out. So they all have something to learn from each other. I like that. All right. Let's I guess before we do listener feedback, we have
00:20:46
Speaker
Something to tell the listeners about, yeah. Yeah, telling the listeners about how to stay hydrated. And the best way to do that is with Liquid IV. 00:22:16
Speaker
I just had a friend right before the show say that he ordered a few. He got sea berry, strawberry, acai berry, and tropical punch. So acai berry and tropical I haven't had yet. So I'm curious for that feedback. And as I've mentioned before, if you guys have a favorite flavor, I'm curious what it is because I need to stock up. I finally have the Dallas trip. I am out. It's order week. Let me know what I should try.
00:22:40
Speaker
What's your flavor? Just tell me what's your flavor. You're on a roll today. That's not the first time that one's come up in recent memory. I just have these little ear bugs that exist from watching too much TV when I was a kid. I sang that one and I was with a group of people and were like, what is that from? Was that like a Fanta commercial? And I looked it up and it was not, in fact, a Fanta commercial. It was from this obscure
00:23:06
Speaker
They were kind of like Bratz dolls, but I must have seen it on like Nickelodeon or Cartoon Network in like a very brief window. Why? And it just stuck with me, but I think they were called like Flavidolls or something like that. Yeah, and they were just like different colors and stuff. Yeah. Yeah, yeah, exactly. So. Interesting. You know, you're talking about watching TV so much as a kid.
Viewing Habits and Busy Schedules
00:23:27
Speaker
When i sat down to watch the show it had clicked to me that had not watch tv in like four days. Like i had some stuff saved on my ipad for my flights but like because i was so locked into that event for about four days it would just be like anytime i was at the hotel but i would just sleep for two hours and then get back to work so it's like i sat down on the tv i was like wow.
00:23:47
Speaker
I have not properly watched TV in four days. That is weird for me. It's healthy to do that from time to time. We host a podcast that talks about animation and action animation, so we obviously encourage people to watch and tune in and everything like that, but it is important to... There is life outside of the screen, so it's important to take some time off and live your life too.
00:24:11
Speaker
What you got speaking of while I was in Dallas, we went to a grapevine mall and there was a few stores in there. Oh, my God was like geeking out. There was one store. So they had like painted scrolls of just different anime scenes and stuff. So they had teams that had like glass displays of the.
00:24:28
Speaker
of like figures. But my favorite part was they actually had a wall that was just swords that were stacked up from different enemies. They had Uzui swords, like with the chains, they had Ren Goku sword art online, a bunch of bleach ones. And I'm just sitting there like my dad's like, what's this from? What's that from? Do you want to wipe a little from the corner of your mouth? Yeah, we had these little gift sets that just had like small versions of like cool things that were just so cool.
00:24:56
Speaker
When we get you to come out here and visit the Bay Area, I'll have to take you to Japantown and San Francisco. They've got some stores like that that you would have a similar reaction to. That's going to be dangerous, but I can't wait. Danger, danger. Enough from me. Let's hear from the people. Sure. All right. We'll kick it off with some feedback. The first one, as I mentioned, I'll give the precursor that this person wrote in before the finale had
Listener Predictions and Speculations
00:25:23
Speaker
aired. Whatever claims they make,
00:25:25
Speaker
Take that into consideration who we got college shots. Yeah All right, so the first one we got from Fabian, yep It's not dudes haven't written in a while, but I work 12 hour days six days a week So it's hard to do so but I will try to my best to contribute when I can we are glad that you are still listening Even if you can't write in as often
00:25:45
Speaker
Superman is my favorite character in comics and this iteration has been arguably one of the best. The show is captured as humanity, which is what makes Clark Superman. It's also great to see Lois and Jimmy being given their due as the well-written and nuanced characters that they are.
00:26:01
Speaker
As for my predictions for the finale, they've used the word Omega quite a bit which is synonymous with Darkseid in the comics. Apocalypse has supplied Intergang with weapons and other versions of DC content so that's a possibility, but the symbol of the weaponry looked like Brainiac's insignia. I also wouldn't rule out Zod being the invader with perhaps the destruction of Krypton being the reason why the invasion failed.
00:26:25
Speaker
I don't know, but I can't wait for the finale. Thanks guys. Fabian D, your friendly neighborhood mailman. So I learned a couple of things about Fabian and this email. Number one, I learned that his favorite character is Superman. I did not know that previously. And number two, I learned that he's a mailman. So whether rain or sleet or snow, I don't know the expression from the, it's something like that though. But I appreciate your efforts there, Fabian.
00:26:52
Speaker
So in regards to the feedback, I don't know if, so I do know that this, this feedback was submitted before the finale came out, but I don't know if Fabian listened to our previous episode before he wrote that email because I feel like he and I were in lock, in lock step in terms of some of our predictions there now.
00:27:12
Speaker
I don't know if it was that episode or not that I mentioned maybe apocalypse or Darkseid was a possibility, but I knew that symbol wasn't his. I knew he's always represented by the Omega symbol, but I had not picked up on the word Omega being used as often as it had been. So definitely a good call out there. I won't even claim anything. I didn't think Darkseid or think anything Omega at all. Okay.
00:27:38
Speaker
Yeah. But we did have the similarities with Zod and Brainiac at least. Sure, sure. And he mentioned inter-gang being supplied with apocalyptic technology in previous DC iterations. And the first one that came to mind for me
00:27:54
Speaker
was young justice. Yeah. Yeah. So good stuff. Cause when that name came up, we were like, where have we heard it in our game before? And we had to like heard it, but we couldn't remember the members of it. Yeah. Um, so it was one thing that just kind of like hopped in and out as the story needed. So right.

yeah interesting connection i i don't know how much i want to see dark side right now i think because they've hinted so much with brainiac inside like i'm more curious with the kryptonian story than i am that big of an enemy like dark side sure
00:28:31
Speaker
And I think because they're good at just keeping a tight story, even though last episode I said that I want the similar storytelling for a bunch of other characters. But if we are sticking with Superman, I think I wouldn't be upset if this kind of kept Darkseid away for a little bit while they build up to smaller stories.
00:28:49
Speaker
Yeah, I agree with that. We're still really, really early on in Superman's
Kryptonian Factions and Allegiances
00:28:52
Speaker
career. So I could see the seeds starting to be planted, and maybe we talked about what Zod's relationship to Brainiac and vice versa, and maybe they are both just acolytes of Darkseid. Like maybe Darkseid approached Krypton, threatened invasion, and you had one faction that said, no, we'll be subservient. You'll give us power. We will serve under you. And maybe that was Zod's faction, whereas Jor-El and the other Kryptonians refused.
00:29:17
Speaker
Krypton's not actually even like actively destroyed. Maybe it's in the process because it's being, you know, occupied by the forces of apocalypse. It's being like threatened. Like if you don't comply, I'll just blow up your planet. Yeah. Yeah. Cause I think in previous iterations, it's a pretty common thing if I'm not mistaken that like the forces of apocalypse, like they, they basically almost like terraformed planets, like they take planets and like turn them into like hellscapes.
00:29:45
Speaker
Yeah. Justice League Dark or Justice League Dark Apocalypse. I was not ready for that. That was a movie. We got to talk about that one day. Yeah, yeah. I know we've got Justice League Ruby up on the docket. We had Andre Sparks, who has some feedback that we'll read later. He was following up on that one. I told him, we're going to watch it. We'll talk about it soon.
00:30:15
Speaker
All right, but anyway, thank you Fabian for writing in. It's good to hear from you. You can take as much time away from us as you want, but we're always gonna be here, so. Love you.
00:30:26
Speaker
All right. And another piece of feedback from one of our stalwart listeners, Mr. TJ Stafford, who writes, well, gents, season one has come to a close. And what a season it was. This show gave us interesting and lovable versions of these characters without some of the more troublesome aspects of the Superman story, i.e. Clark gaslighting everyone his life to keep his secret from multiple seasons. And we get to skip to the end where everybody knows and is on board.
00:30:53
Speaker
Couple things, I don't think anyone is surprised to find Sam Lane as the mysterious general. It was essentially already confirmed in his flashbacks of Zero Day when Waller referred to him by his first name. I'm also a believer of the theory that Ivo's assistant, Alex, will turn out to be a young Lex Luthor. He reminds me a lot of Jesse Eisenberg's portrayal.
00:31:17
Speaker
I just have one minor, actually, the last time you mentioned that you didn't love that Jonathan Kent was still alive.
Jonathan Kent's Unique Role
00:31:24
Speaker
While it's true that in many interpretations you're right, Jonathan Kent has died prior to Clark Donning escape, that isn't always the case. Most notably in Superman the Animated Series, as well as a few other animated appearances, Jonathan Kent loves to see his son become the world savior. It happens often enough that I wasn't really bothered by his appearance here.
00:31:44
Speaker
But who's to say he'll remain a permanent part of the series going forward? I could go on, but this is long enough already. Thanks for covering this, dare I say, super show. I'll see myself out. All right, we appreciate it. Don't you dare walk out that door. Yeah, we appreciate the word play here, TJ. You're in good company.
00:32:07
Speaker
And you know what, I was surprised because my brain just shuts off whenever I start watching content. So logic just went out the window and I was like, Oh, yeah. Yeah. So.
00:32:22
Speaker
I'm trying to think about how to approach this the right way so in terms of TJ's feedback surrounding Jonathan Kent, I want to apologize if I gave the wrong impression I wasn't really bothered or upset that Jonathan Kent was part of the proceedings like I'm not actively rooting for this guy to die. I think it was just.
00:32:40
Speaker
like my exposure to Superman, I kind of equate him to like Ben Parker, like his death is kind of one of the things that spurs Superman on, but I might just be, I think that's, I think it's always been part of the story, but I know like the 70s Donner movie like really solidified that as being like, you know, one of those Hallmark,
00:33:02
Speaker
young Superman, his origin story events. But yeah, don't get me wrong, I'm not actively upset that Jonathan Kent's still around. I think he's a great character and he's hilarious. I think in terms of the conversation we were having, I think that was one of those things too, knowing that the title of the episode was, what is it, Hearts of the Fathers? That's what I was teasing at the beginning of the episode too. I know the character of Jonathan Kent, he famously dies of a heart attack. So with that title, I was thinking, oh, okay, I know
00:33:31
Speaker
And more often than not, Jonathan Kent passes away when Superman is relatively early on in his career. So I thought that was a possibility. But yeah, don't get the wrong impression. I told Jonathan Kent to die. I'm just surprised that he's still here, I guess. Yeah. Otherwise, I'm on the same page. I still think the Alex Lex Luthor thing is a definite possibility. And I agree with the comparisons to Jesse Eisenberg's portrayal, for better or for worse. I like it.
00:34:00
Speaker
Cool. All right. One last piece of feedback. And the last one that we have today is from Andre Sparks. Hey guys, that finale and end scene were dope. Overall I enjoyed the season.
00:34:12
Speaker
This Superman was young and inexperienced in the show and Superman at Lois, he's been Superman for 20 plus years. There's a difference and I loved it. I'm just mad Jor-El couldn't explain everything to Clark like in past series and movies. But then again, I appreciate the difference to keep it fresh for us. Do you guys think we get more heroes next season? Keep up the great work. Some good questions there. One thing I want to address first though is I appreciate that Andre mentioned Jor-El again because
Jor-El's Sacrifice and Guidance
00:34:42
Speaker
It does make me think that as much as this episode gave us a taste of what Kryptonians look like and gave us some answers, effectively Jor-El sacrificing himself a second time and the destruction of Clark's ship.
00:34:59
Speaker
That was a source for answers. And you talked about comparing the series to Man of Steel, like in Man of Steel, his ship was his fortress of solitude. That's where he communed with Jor-El. That's where he got all his answers. And like now that ship is effectively destroyed. So he's going to have to get those answers and that guidance from somewhere else. Yeah. And I'm wondering if, as much as I don't want to say this, if the multiverse actually is the answer to that.
00:35:23
Speaker
Because that's where he got his exposure to kryptonite. It's where he got the story of, you know, what his supposed past or, you know, future is supposed to be. So since they've introduced that already, I'm wondering if they're, if that's how he's going to get the answers or if there's going to be another way that he finds his new fortress. Hey, if we get a return of Mixie Piddleick, I'm all on board. That's still one of my favorite episodes of the season easily.
00:35:50
Speaker
He's like a rocket raccoon in the first Guardians movie where he talks about how many prisons he got out of. That's true. Yeah. In comparison, the other part of Andre's email here is asking about heroes. I want to pick your brain about that. What do you think the likelihood that we're going to see more heroes and how soon we got some name drops for some cities in previous episodes?
Potential Hero Introductions
00:36:15
Speaker
I could see it, but I can't confidently
00:36:19
Speaker
speculate who because we have like the cast list for Superman legacy and how like Hawkman and like all these people are like making an appearance in that first live action. Sure. Start of the DCU. So it wouldn't surprise me if people popped in, but like, I just, I can't think of like what fits. Okay. Well, you know, off the top of my head, I'm thinking back to that,
00:36:47
Speaker
Mixie Piddle lick episode again, and we saw Dr. Fates helmet. So we know somewhere out there in the multiverse.
00:36:52
Speaker
Dr. Fate is doing his thing. And Star City got mentioned, so it's entirely positive. We know Queen Consolidator, Queen Industries, whatever. Queen Consolidator, yeah. Yeah, whatever they're calling it in this one. We know that's a thing, and it's had some history. So the possibility of green arrow being out there, there are possibilities. I do find myself just kind of thinking about the more cosmic angle and how technology-based the Kryptonians have been shown to be.
00:37:20
Speaker
I'm kind of leaning towards like green lanterns, like we may, or just the lantern core in general, maybe we'll see somebody on that side of things sooner rather than later, but I would...
00:37:32
Speaker
I hope they have some restraint. I hope they just don't say, hey, like, hey, this show got really well received, had good viewership, people were down for it. Let's just explode into this whole universe. Like down the road, if we get there, great. But I would like to have at least one more season where things are, if somebody wants to make a guest appearance for like a one, two off episode arc, that's great. But I don't want to kind of see, for better or for worse with the Arrowverse, what kind of happened after,
00:38:00
Speaker
Season two with that show where it's like like episodes started becoming backdoor pilots for other characters. Like I don't really need that at this point Yeah, it took them like up until season five to finally recover from that but it was cool just seeing Barry Allen like make his And I think I would like that for how Jordan because I mentioned that as being like one of like a part of my wish list between yeah, I
00:38:24
Speaker
him and him and Barry Allen, just because the way that the show was written would be like very entertaining. So to see how Jordan or maybe even like his his love interest, the Ferris era lady. Oh, right. Yeah. If she was involved, like if she just has like a work trip in Metropolis for something and just kind of like mentioned that there's a few things where it's like, put them in there, see how it works, take your time, develop a story. And like I said, like
00:38:52
Speaker
If we could just out of selfishness, like if we could have this style of show for a bunch of heroes and then never interact with each other, I'd be fine with that. I don't need like a justice league buildup, but just to know that there's other characters out there in this animation style with this type of storytelling, it would just be nice. Yeah, for sure. I'm with you. Though, you know, I mentioned a lot of heroes, but
00:39:18
Speaker
I'm thinking about the way Young Justice depicted some of the other worldliness of Atlantis and that whole world. I would like to see some of that depicted in the way this show is drawn. I think they could do some really cool creature and character designs with the anime influence under the sea creatures. You can see drummer octopuses again.
00:39:39
Speaker
I need it. King Shark. I love that scene. I don't care what people think about it. Yeah. Fun times, fun times. All right. Well, we're getting about 40 minutes here. I don't think I have anything else left to say about this one. DC animation is making its comeback right now. I like the direction that it's heading in. There's a lot of diversity with a lot of content. And I know Marvel's does this thing with the live action, but you got to give DC love where it's deserved.
00:40:08
Speaker
Yeah, normally, as we're wrapping up towards the end, you mentioned Marvel. So normally, I would put this at the top of an episode, but it's just coming to mind here right now. But we got a bunch of Marvel series delays, including X-Men 97. We were supposed to get that this fall that's been pushed to next year. But we did learn that what if season two will be dropping in December on Christmas Day. So I feel vindicated, because I feel like it was just a couple episodes that I finally backpedaled.
00:40:35
Speaker
and said that like something to the effect like we do these like most anticipated for the year and two years in a row I put what if season two and it finally feels like I'm like validated right it towards the end here it's like yeah they snuck it in that December we didn't know it was coming but it's coming
00:40:50
Speaker
Yeah, I called Saturday about that for fantasy. I was like, I'm so happy I'm not playing this year because I'm sure that throws a wrench into everyone's draft. Oh, yeah. No, I know. I haven't looked at my score in a long time, but I'm pretty sure the Agatha series getting pushed back kind of destroys any chances I had. Oh, yeah. I'm pretty sure. I have to go back and look.
00:41:11
Speaker
Yeah, we had some people write it and it's like, what are you guys going to do for the writer's block? And I was like, that's exactly the fun of the game. It's the same as COVID. Like, you know, things get rescheduled and things get rewritten and yada, yada. And you just, you never know what your injuries are going to happen. You don't know where the cancellations are going to happen. So good luck. That's right. May the odds be ever in your favor.
00:41:34
Speaker
All right. Buddy, do you have anything going on that you want to let the listeners know about? 3-2-3 to Reed Murphy is doing its NFL coverage again. We're going to have an episode. I'm going to record soon about our predictions for who we think are going to be division champs and potential Super Bowl champs. I will be hopping on Peeves Gap Fest as being the person who watched the movies and never read the books to kind of give my perspective now that I'm finally reading the books.
00:42:03
Speaker
Jujutsu Kaisen has continued its coverage. So Andrew and I will be doing a double decker this week, talking about episodes one and two of the Shibuya incident art. And yeah, me being in zombie mode apparently does not stop me from podcasting. So bring it on. Right on. We're glad to have you here. Whether you're desiring to consume brains or not, we'll take it.
00:42:29
Speaker
Yeah, I just want to remind the listeners of a few things we still have in the works. So I am still watching Futurama look forward to like once the season has come to a close, the Futurama revival on Hulu. I'll do some kind of reaction to that.
00:42:45
Speaker
Also, if you take a look a couple episodes back on this feed, I was joined by Jay Sisson from Commute the Podcast and Multiverse News to do an episode on Solar Opposites, the series as a whole, as well as the fourth season. So check that out, give that some love. And then Harley Quinn, season four, we're still knocking that out a few episodes at a time. So keep tuning in for that and appreciate all the support. Give us a rating review, share us with your friends,
00:43:13
Speaker
Keep tuning in, that's T-double-o, and I end. And as always, stay well and don't eat brains. Brains.
