miss beth
I see flowers and leaves coming on trees and the birds are coming out and bugs and bees are coming out.
00:00:59
miss beth
Lots of animals. Okay, I'm going to find the very first word. And the very first letter in the very first word is a w When spring comes.
00:01:10
miss beth
It's three words in this title. Let's read it together. I love when authors do this, when they use the first pages to show us what the story might be about.
00:01:23
miss beth
I see umbrellas and raindrops. When Spring Comes Before spring comes, the trees look like black sticks against the sky.
00:01:40
miss beth
But if you wait, spring will bring leaves and blossoms. Wow, look at how pretty those trees are. Makes me want to draw a painting like this, or paint a painting like this.
00:01:56
miss beth
If you wait, spring will make the leftover mounds of snow smaller and smaller and smaller until suddenly...
00:02:11
miss beth
They're gone.

Spring's Transformations

00:02:14
miss beth
Before spring comes, the grass is brown. ah But if you wait, spring will turn it green and add little flowers.
00:02:31
miss beth
If you wait, an egg will become
00:02:38
miss beth
Some of you might be making hatching birds in your classroom. A seed will start growing. What is that seed going to grow into?
00:02:51
miss beth
beautiful flower. Spring comes with sun. And it comes with rain. And more rain.
00:03:03
miss beth
And more rain. Do you like the rain? I sometimes like the rain. Do you like the mud? you like puddles?
00:03:16
miss beth
Well, I hope you will like umbrellas.
00:03:22
miss beth
beef Before spring comes, the garden is just dirt and empty. But if you wait, spring will push green shoots through the dirt to fill up the garden.
00:03:40
miss beth
And spring will call out all the pussy willows and the new kittens too. I have some of these in my house.
00:03:51
miss beth
Spring can come quickly slowly. It changes its mind a lot.

Signs of Spring

00:04:01
miss beth
But when spring is finally here to stay, you will know it.
00:04:11
miss beth
There will be buds and bees and boots and bubbles. All those words start with b. Do you know what letter makes that but sound? Buds, bees, boots, bubbles.
00:04:26
miss beth
Bee! Can you find all the b's on this page? They're lowercase b's. Buds, bees, boots, bubbles.
00:04:38
miss beth
There will be worms and wings and wind and wheels. Do you notice what is the first sound in all those words?
00:04:49
miss beth
Worms, wings, wind, wheels.
00:04:55
miss beth
It's a W.
00:04:59
miss beth
When spring comes, you will feel it, you will smell it, and you will hear it.
00:05:12
miss beth
When spring is finally here to stay, you might think that you are done waiting, but you are not.
00:05:24
miss beth
Now you have to wait for summer. And look, just like at the beginning of this story, there's predictions, there's pictures that show us what the next story might be about.

Some things about summer like flip-flops and fireworks and popsicles and water. the end. Oh, I love that. Kevin Henkes,

Personal Experiences with Spring

00:05:48
miss beth
that's the author. And I love that story when spring comes because every year, every single year I'm like, yay, it's spring.
00:05:55
miss beth
I'm going to put my hat away and my gloves and my scarf and my boots. And then it snows again. and I always say, when will spring come? And I have to remind myself that spring changes its mind a lot.
00:06:10
miss beth
Now, there was a page in that story that said, when spring comes, you will smell it. What do you think spring smells like?
00:06:23
miss beth
What's something you might smell in the spring?
00:06:27
miss beth
Flowers or like the sidewalk after it rains It said you will hear it. What do you think the sounds of spring are? and are What will you hear in the spring?
00:06:44
miss beth
Maybe birds chirping? Maybe dogs barking because they'll be outside more. Maybe kids playing at the park. You will see it too.
00:06:57
miss beth
I think one thing about spring coming is it gets light later. The sun goes to sleep later. So there's lots of signs. So even if it gets cold again, or even if it feels like summer again, we know spring changes its mind a lot.
00:07:14
miss beth
But if you wait, it will be here. And then when spring is finally here, what are we going to have to wait for?
00:07:24
miss beth
Well, if you like that story, I'm going to send you a whole bunch more of my favorite spring stories.
