NBA Offseason Moves Discussion

00:00:00
Speaker
Hello, welcome to the seventh episode of Eli Studio Sports. Today we will be discussing moves that will happen this NBA offseason. So the and NBA playoffs are underway. The semifinals are also underway. The Nuggets are trailing the Clippers 1-0. The Rockets are leading the Lakers 1-0.
00:00:24
Speaker
The Heat are smoking the Bucks three to zero and the Raptors and the Celtics are tied to two. So we're just going to get into moves that I think could happen this offseason. So let's just get started here.

Trade Speculations and Proposals

00:00:40
Speaker
The first move is Rudy Gobert. I think he'll be going to the Mavericks for Seth Curry, Maxi Kleba, Justin Jackson and a first round pick. And this might seem like a lot,
00:00:53
Speaker
But the reason why the Mavericks need this pick is because they need a defensive player. Maxi Kleba and Dorian Finney Smith are their only solid defensive players. If they could get Rudy Gobert and Chris Stops Porzingis defending the rim, while Chris Stops Porzingis is healthy, they'll be unstoppable. The next trade is Kevin Love for Trevor Ariza and two second round picks. Two second round picks.
00:01:24
Speaker
The reason why the Blazers would make this trade is because they want to have another star along with Damien Lillard, CJ McCollum, and then Melo said he's coming back next season. If they can get Kevin Love, they would have a ton of players that could potentially average 15 points per game.
00:01:50
Speaker
And if they have Hassan Whiteside and Joseph Nurkic, too, they're going to be unstoppable. And the Cavs make this trade because they need some type of score because the only decent player that they're going to have if Trevor Ariza doesn't work is Andre Drummond and Colin Sexton. But if those are the only two guys scoring, they're going to be a lot of points, which might be a little bit better for the Cavaliers.
00:02:19
Speaker
Moving on, it's Derek Rose for Chris Dunn, Thaddeus Young, and a second round pick. Why do the Pistons and the Bulls agree to this trait? Why? First,
00:02:37
Speaker
Derek Rose has been in Chicago, so he knows what it's like to play for the Bulls. He knows what it's like to barely make the playoffs and still put up a fight. He knows what it's like to win MVP. And then the Pistons have not been able to find good players. ah and until you look at Blake Griffin and Andre Drummond. But after that, they haven't been able to find almost anyone besides Derek Rose. If they could get Chris Dunn, who's a solid player, he's not great, but he's solid. Daddy is young. He's very underrated. I believe he's very good. And then the second round pick, a lot of second round picks have turned into very good players. So I think the Bulls would try to make this pick.
00:03:25
Speaker
Next up, we have Devin Booker for Al Horford, Josh Richardson, and Tobias Harris. You also might be thinking, why would the Suns agree to this pick? The reason why they agree to this is because they want to have more than one or two stars. DeAndre has turned into a phenomenal player.
00:03:50
Speaker
Kelly Oubre is a phenomenal player. Ricky Rubio is a solid player. Aaron Baines is very good. If they could get more, and Devin Booker, obviously, he's a great player. If they could get more than that, two extra great players, that's even better. so And also, Philly, they need shooting. That has been their biggest struggle. Their starting point guard cannot shoot threes in Ben Simmons. After that, he's phenomenal. If they could get Devin Booker at the shooting guard position,
00:04:20
Speaker
they could be one of the top teams.

Major Trade Analyses

00:04:25
Speaker
And now we're moving on to Donovan Mitchell, the spider for Duncan Robinson, Tyler Hero, Kendrick Nunn, and Kelly Olenek. Why would the Jazz agree to this? Because they also need shooting. They have a lot. Mike Conley, Donovan Mitchell, Joe Ingalls, Rudy Gobert, well, Rudy Gobert,
00:04:48
Speaker
before they make the trade with the Mavs, but I think that they're trying to rebuild because they're going to have to trade one or both of Ruby Go Bear and Donovan Mitchell. And then they get Duncan Robinson, a rising star. He was in the three point contest and and he's a rookie, Tyler Hero.
00:05:09
Speaker
I believe he probably could have been a rookie of the year candidate. Kendrick Nunn, who is a rookie of the year candidate, and then Kelly Olenek, who has a lot of experience and is a very good center who could replace Rudy Gobert. The only thing is that he's not as good as at defense as Rudy Gobert, but on the offensive end, I think they're close to equal. Moving on to the probably the trade that's giving that that one team gives up the most players.
00:05:38
Speaker
It's Chris Paul. and All right. Let me breathe before this. For Kevin Knox, Frank Nittlekina, Dennis Smith Jr, Elfrey Paden, Bobby Portis, and a second round pick. You're giving away a ton if you're the Knicks. Why would they agree to this? They need a superstar. Their best player that they've had in a while is Julius Randall.
00:06:06
Speaker
Because a couple years ago, and their superstar player was Emmanuel Moudier. When he goes to other teams, he's going to average about seven points per game. And he's on the Jazz now, and he's not averaging what he used to average on the Knicks. And now they have Julius Randall. They have Mitchell micchele Robinson. When you add Chris Paul to that team, they could potentially make an eight seed or a nine seed. And then if they can get another superstar,
00:06:37
Speaker
That would be nice, but I don't know if they'll be able to do that. Moving on, you have Joel Embiid for three first round picks, Gordon Hayward and Marcus Smart. This might seem like a lot, and I think this is an optional trade for Boston, because they're trying to go small ball. So ah this one has a 35-65 chance. The 35 is for it um happening. So I actually don't know if this one could happen.
00:07:07
Speaker
But the reason why is because Joel Embiid, the Sixers have not been able to make it past the conference semis, and Joel Embiid does not want to stay there, period. Danny Age might pounce at the opportunity that they can get a big center that's very talented, all-star starter. He might be giving away too much, but Gordon Hayward is a free agent.
00:07:34
Speaker
So you have to get something for him. Try to make a trade. Not you can let him leave and use those 32 million free dollars that you have. And then Marcus Smart. He's a phenomenal defensive player. I'm surprised he wasn't a six man of the year candidate. And then three first round picks. You can do a ton with that if you're Philadelphia. Moving on, we have Bradley Beal for Caris Lavert, Jarrett Allen and Spencer Dinwiddie.
00:08:03
Speaker
Bradley Beal has turned into a phenomenal superstar. I thought he was actually going to be an all-star starter this year. He wasn't even an all-star, which is straight up crazy because he had the second most points per game in the NBA. But giving up Carousel Vert, Jarrah Allen, and Spencer Dinwiddie seems like a lot. Those are a lot of young stars.
00:08:26
Speaker
But the truth is you need three stars to win a championship. You already have Kyrie who could mess it all up. He did that in Boston, but assuming he won't. Kevin Durant and Bradley Beal on the same team.
00:08:40
Speaker
That's almost unstoppable. it If if Kyrie figures out how to be able how to be able to support his teammates and they hired Steve Nash, he seems like he would be a great coach for that team. So they could have high hopes if they make this trade. Moving on, it's Zach Levine for a first round pick. Kyle Kuzma, Danny Green and Avery Bradley. The reason why they make this trade They already got Derek Rose. So now they need to surround him with talent. So if they could try and get guys like Kyle Kuzma, he is a phenomenal player. He's very under the radar than Danny Green. He is older.
00:09:27
Speaker
But he can still shoot kind of like Kyle Korver and then Avery Bradley. He's a very under underrated player. So they could get guys like that and then get someone in free agency that isn't him. That would be phenomenal. And they also have a first round pick added to that. So I think they could make this.

Mega Trades and Superstar Shifts

00:09:48
Speaker
And here's a blockbuster trade coming up. Yannis Antetokounmpo.
00:09:53
Speaker
for Draymond Green, Andrew Wiggins, Eric Pascal, and Jordan Poole. Oh, sorry, sorry, that wasn't it, sorry. Janisandeta Kumpo, Draymond Green, Andrew Wiggins, Eric Pascal, Jordan Poole, Marquis Chris, Kavon Looney, two first-round picks and a second-round pick. That's a, that's a ton. I'll admit that. That actually was more than the Chris Paul trade.
00:10:21
Speaker
They gave away one, two, three, four, five, six, eight, nine players for one. But they're getting a superstar. They're getting an MVP. The reason why Giannis wants to lead Milwaukee, they're about to get swept by the Heat or at least lose the series to the Heat. Giannis does not want to stay there. He wants to win the title. He's like AD. He wants to win it all.
00:10:48
Speaker
And if he and if Milwaukee is not capable of doing that, a Steph Curry, Clay Thompson, Yanisana, the Kumpo trio is absolutely unstoppable. Moving on, we're going to have Victor Oladipo for Will Barden, Michael Porter, Jr. in a second round pick. And Michael Porter, Jr., he's been phenomenal in the bubble. I really like the style of play that he plays.
00:11:17
Speaker
But the reason why the Nuggets trade him is because he's not a starter regularly. Will Barton and Gary Harris have been injured, so he's been able to start. But I don't see why he isn't a starter, but they're going to have to trade him if he's not going to start. Will Barton averages 15 points per game. That's not bad, but Victor Oladipo is a dog on defense and can absolutely play offense. And then a second round pick.
00:11:44
Speaker
Usually they'll, some of them can be bust, but some of them can be superstars. Moving on, they have Drew Holliday for Julius Randall, Elfrey Paden, and Frank Nittelikina. If he, if they don't make the Chris Paul trade. So this is a lot of good players. And the only way they can make this trade is if they don't make the Chris Paul trade, because they're trading away two of the players that they traded away on the Chris Paul trade.
00:12:14
Speaker
So, um, if they make this trade before the Chris Paul trade, they would have to lose Elfried, Paden, and Frayton in a Laquina, make it one first round pick and another second round pick. The reason why the Pelicans agree to this because Drew Holliday is going to leave in 2021 free agency. I believe that's going to happen. They have a new coach coming up.
00:12:41
Speaker
And Julius Randall has already played in New Orleans and he was very good there. He averaged over 20 points per game. Alfred Peyton is a very, very, very good point guard. And Franklin Oakland is too, not all star caliber point guard, but he can give you 12 points and he doesn't get paid too much. So if you're going to pay a guy 3 million and he's going to give you 12 points per game, that's good enough. Moving on.
00:13:10
Speaker
It's Eric Bledsoe from Markau Foltz, Mo Bamba, and Kem Burch. Markau Foltz has been part of trades before, like the Jason Tatum one. But Eric Bledsoe, I don't know if he wants to stay in Milwaukee. I think as soon as they trade Giannis, they're gonna have to start a rebuild. And the first step is to get younger players And I don't know if Eric Bledsoe qualifies for that young player type. So I think Markel Foltz has potential. He could be good. He has not proven it yet, but I think he could. Then a Mo Bamba. I don't know why they don't start him because he's phenomenal. He's super powerful. He can overpower you. And then Ken Birch, just to add a little bit, not make it one of those
00:14:06
Speaker
I guess I want to make this trade because we have to get rid of Eric Bledsoe trades because or else they wouldn't agree to that. They keep Eric Bledsoe. Moving on, we have Aaron Gordon for Minnesota first round pick and a second round pick. The reason why the magic created this. They're also going through a rebuild. They're getting Eric Bledsoe. They've already gotten more players and then adding the first overall pick.
00:14:34
Speaker
It's either going to be Anthony Edwards, probably because they already got blood. So, uh, or not blood. So, sorry, the magic, they already got blood. So adding either Anthony Edwards, lamello ball, or James Wiseman to their team. That's hard to beat. And then second round pick, you know, they can get one of those sleeper picks, try to get Marcus Howard or something.
00:15:01
Speaker
because he was phenomenal in the mocks. He's still a second round pick, but you can get a sleeper pick like Marcus Howard. Moving on, it's Montrez Harold.

Free Agency Moves and Signings

00:15:12
Speaker
He will be going to the Hornets in free agency. He's going to get paid a ton over there because they probably have a ton on their salary cap left because I mean, they don't get that many superstars. They have Terry Rozier.
00:15:26
Speaker
And Davante Graham. Those are their superstars. And Davante Graham has been phenomenal. But Terry Rozier. I mean, if only they kept Kemba Walker. But Terry Rozier cannot be your best player. He was a backup in Boston. He cannot be your best player over there. And then you add Montrez Harrell, who could potentially be your best player. He's phenomenal defensively.
00:15:54
Speaker
And then he's still very good offensively. Adding him to with PJ Washington is phenomenal, too. I love this. I think this would be perfect for them. And then they're going to pay Montrese Harrell, because if they don't, obviously he won't agree with that because the Hornets have not proven themselves to be a good team lately. So you have to pay him.
00:16:17
Speaker
But if you add them to with PJ Washington and Devontae Graham, they have a shot. A very small one, though, at making a playoffs. Moving on, we have Serge Ibaka to the New Orleans Pelicans and Free Agency. Look.
00:16:34
Speaker
Sergio Baca, like in the Celtics series, we're all like, Marcus, he will dominate. And then you see Sergio Baca, he's been the dominating center. He was drilling threes. He's been drilling them throughout the playoffs. And then the Pelicans, they're getting guys like Julius Randall, Alfred Paden, Frank Nolikina. And then you add Sergio Baca to Lonzo Ball, Brandon Ingram. That's hard to stop.
00:17:05
Speaker
So I think that um the the pelicans could agree to some money that they can give to Ibaka. Moving on, it's DeMar DeRozan to the Nuggets in free agency. DeMar DeRozan is phenomenal, but he does not want to be in San Antonio where they're either the 7th seed or the 13th seed and they're missing out. So I think Demara Rosen does not want to be in San Antonio right now. He's gonna go to a winning team. He'll be Michael Porter Jr's replacement. He wants to go to Denver, join Jamel Murray, Nikolai Okich. That could be a dynasty. Moving on, we have the last movement of all and it's Anthony Davis. Where will he be going? He's going to the Chicago Bulls in free agency.
00:18:02
Speaker
Even if they don't make any trades, I think this is still a good move because they have plenty on their salary cap. There are plenty of teams that could go after him. If the Celtics release Gordon Hayward, they can get Anthony Davis. The Lakers, they should re-sign Anthony Davis. But the team that has the most chance and like the Rockets or the Thunder could try to get him, but the team with the highest chances of getting him,
00:18:30
Speaker
are by far the Bulls like they've already made plenty of trades and Anthony Davis comes there looking at it and he's like, huh, they're trying to build a dynasty over there and He's not there for the money. He's trying to win he he Rejected the max contract that the Lakers offered him that proves that he's not there for the money and with the Bulls they've already made plenty of trades here and They've traded Zach Levine, but they did it for good reason. They got a first round pick, Kyle Kuzma, Danny Green, and Avery Bradley. Those are a lot of good players. They also got Derek Rose. When you add Anthony Davis to that team, you already have guys like that could make a difference. But once you add all those players, probably not. ah Wendell Carter, they still have Lori Markinen.
00:19:20
Speaker
I think if they make all those trades, you might think I'm crazy because the Warriors are there. I think the Bulls are going to win. If they make all these trades, I think they're going to win the NBA Finals, even if the Warriors make the honest trade, which they will try. Definitely.
00:19:39
Speaker
but I'm just gonna finish this off with the top five teams that I think have a chance at getting Giannis Andel Cumpo. So number five, I think, and they have to really straight a lot to get him, probably either Kemba or Tatum. And once I said Kemba or Tatum, you know, it's the Celtics. I think they have a shot because they want a big man, but they already have Jason Tatum at starting power forward, who's a was a very good player. So I don't know if they're going to want to do that. The next team that I think kind of has a shot. I think is the Los Angeles Clippers. Why? Because Paul George and Kawhi Leonard might want to leave because they have not been doing much in the playoffs. Now, if the Clippers win the NBA Finals or make it to the Western Conference Finals or something like that, I don't think the Clippers even have a shot.
00:20:38
Speaker
Okay, moving on. Number three, I think, is the Toronto Raptors. Why? Because they have so much to offer. They could trade Pascal Siak, and they could trade Fred Van Vleet. They could trade Kyle Lowry. They could trade anyone. They could trade five players. Just to get you honest, they have enough. I absolutely we think the Raptors have a chance. Number two.
00:21:06
Speaker
the Golden State Warriors, and I picked them to make this. But I still don't think they're number one, but I still think they're going to find a way to do it. They have a lot that they can trade away now. They have zero depth behind Steph Curry and Clay Thompson.
00:21:21
Speaker
Giannis could help that, but once they make all those trades, they're gonna have to get one or two players in free agency, whether they're good or not. But, one player that I did not mention that could get picked in free agency before I pick number one, is DeMarcus Cousins.
00:21:38
Speaker
He hasn't played at all this year, and that could be one concern. But when he's on a team with four other superstars, he can still average 16.3 points per game. He proved that in Golden State. So a team that doesn't have too many superstars could pick him up. And number one, drumroll please. I think the Miami Heat have the highest chance of getting out.
00:22:01
Speaker
Why be like just like the Warriors and the Raptors? They have so much to offer. They have an incredible amount. Tyler Hero, Kendrick, none. Kelly O'Linnick and that's obviously if they don't make some trades that they already made. Duncan Robinson, Jimmy Butler, Bam Adebayo. They have plenty of first round picks and second round picks. Now they're not going to trade Butler and Adebayo because that's the only way they're going to win it all.
00:22:29
Speaker
but They have so much to offer. You can look up their roster and see how much they have to offer for Giannis. Okay, well that's it for this episode. Thank you so much for listening. See you in the next one.
