Introduction: Episode Overview

00:00:00
Speaker
Hello, welcome to the 18th episode of Eli's Studio Sports. Today I will be predicting the top 15 in college football after the conference championships. A lot of very close games. um So let's get started.

Top Two Teams Predicted

00:00:18
Speaker
at number one i have alabama as many people predicted it would be and i would be surprised that today on selection sunday one played a very close game pc championship against number seven florida um they both teams showed some fight i honestly think kyle trask outplayed mac jones but um that won't matter right now as Alabama wins the game 52 46 and they're gonna move on and they're probably gonna be number one in the college football playoff Number two, I've got Clemson They're coming off of a win in the ACC championship against Notre Dame. So not much to talk about on Clemson's part ah They did they had a very good game um
00:01:03
Speaker
They had an early, um, struggle, um, defensively and offensively, and we have a 51 yard field goal early. Then, um, Trevor Lawrence throws an interception, but after that, everything was, um, very good. And after that, really they outscored, um, Notre Dame, 34 seven. So, um, great job by Clemson.

Ranking Debates: Ohio State & Texas A&M

00:01:27
Speaker
Number three, I've got Ohio state,
00:01:30
Speaker
Notre Dame lost to Clemson and they lost big time. They're not going to stay where they are. I think most people know that by now. most It's almost impossible that Ohio State won't go up. However, it took them a while to get in a lead against Northwestern. People have been saying that Northwestern has no chance, but they were up at halftime 10-6.
00:01:54
Speaker
um in most of the third quarter, so great job by Northwestern Ohio State. Needed to show more fight there, but ah you know, um great job by them just to finish the game off. At number four, we have um Texas A&M. This has a debate in it, OK? I mean, it's it's really close between Notre Dame and ah in Texas A and&M.
00:02:22
Speaker
But the thing is like Texas A&M, like their only loss was to Bama. It's a 28 point loss, but that was with Jaylen Waddle. That's, they had both star wide receivers and that was in like some game of the season where everyone was just warming up. So it's like the top 14, they were already ready. Um, so yeah, I think that they're better than Notre Dame. And since Notre Dame lost by, I think if Dave would have lost by more than 21, they were out. And if they lost by less than 21,
00:02:51
Speaker
They still had a chance at being out, but more likely they'd be in. They lost by 24 to Clemson. I think they're out.

Notre Dame's Loss & Florida's Defense

00:03:00
Speaker
i think they're out I think Ohio State goes up to number four. Number five, we got Notre Dame. Well, they got no excuse for losing that game, or at least losing it in the fashion they did. The has ah some excuses. ah Trevor Lawrence coming back, one of the best quarterbacks in all college football. um He was replaced by DJ Uyaga Lele because Trevor had COVID, but like after that, so like Trevor Lawrence and ETN has a great game. He did not have a great game in South Bend, but here he has a great game um and you've been training for it and you know, Clemson's mad, but on the offensive end, you have absolutely no excuse to only score 10 points.
00:03:44
Speaker
Okay, you you scored 33 in regular time the last time you played them you have in the defense is no different They did not have any big though. The defense was no different. They had no excuse for only scoring 10 points They should have scored 33 or something like that. It should not have been 34 to 10. It should have been 34 30 something like that um No excuse for Brian Kelly squad. I don't think they're in the college playoff right now
00:04:13
Speaker
six We got the Florida Gators. Oh, I mean, I know they're going up after a loss very rare and cod football But they were the closest team to almost beat Alabama closest They lost by six. Okay, but they came back and they fought they wanted it more They ended up but you could see their defense actually stepped up in the second half only giving up 17 points No one thought that was gonna happen Even I thought at halftime that it would be ah like Alabama was score 70 points, but their defense wanted it. So they actually got some stops. The offense wanted it. They scored 29 points in the half. Great job by the Gators fighting hard and they're playing the number one team in the country and only losing by six. I mean, you got to give this team some credit.

Oklahoma's Triumph & Cincinnati's Ranking

00:05:05
Speaker
Okay. They, no one was expecting that.
00:05:09
Speaker
ESPN's FBI said it was gonna be an absolute blowout and that Alabama's a 17-point favorite and they have an 89% chance of winning. That's impressive that you can that you only lose by six when that happens. So a great job by Florida fighting very hard, just trying to get that college football playoff spot. But you know I think they did a great job.
00:05:37
Speaker
At number seven, I've got Oklahoma. They upset, I guess upset. I was state. I was state was number six coming into that game. Um, Oklahoma was, they both were two last teams. Oklahoma cut coming out hot. Spencer out there with a great game. You know, that team is, is, it's playing well right now. And.
00:06:02
Speaker
You can't look past them if you see them in a New Year's six bowl. So I think that Oklahoma's great team. I think it's going to be tough for them to win a New Year's six bowl, but you know, a great job to beat Iowa State, you know, doing what they can to do it. And they did it, um, and coming out hot playing great defense. So, um, uh, round of applause to Oklahoma. At number eight, we have Cincinnati.

Georgia's Review & Coastal Carolina's Rise

00:06:30
Speaker
I know they could be lower and I know they're coming up after a close win against Tulsa, but I mean Tulsa fought hard too. Those 7 p.m. games, those were the best ones. And I mean, let's be honest, Tulsa played great. And I honestly think to be honest, they played better. It's pretty simple. They played better. But again, oh Cincinnati's just hoping some teams are losing. Unfortunately for them, those teams didn't lose.
00:06:59
Speaker
They were hoping Clemson lost, that didn't happen. They were hoping A and&M lost, that didn't happen. Hoping Alabama lost, actually no way, no. They were hoping Florida lost, that did happen. But they were hoping it was a blowout and that did not happen. And they were hoping Georgia's game didn't get canceled and they lost, which is almost impossible. But that didn't happen either. So, um, you know, Cincinnati's out right now.
00:07:23
Speaker
And a great fight by Tulsa. Great job by Cincinnati to actually hit the field goal at the end, not get too excited because it was just a chip shot and you know, think he's going to make it automatically. But you know, great job by Cincinnati to pull away with the win. Number nine, I got Georgia. They were 72 this year, but their game against Vanderbilt got canceled. Feel bad because that's usually, um,
00:07:51
Speaker
So far this year that's been an automatic win. No one has lost to them, but you know, a great season by Georgia. Just two losses against two of the best teams in college football losing to Alabama and Florida. But you know, it's been a great year for them. um They can build off it now. um The quarterback position is an issue. I believe that Jamie Newman will play next year though, so they're they're on track. At number 10.
00:08:20
Speaker
We have Coastal Carolina. Man, this team is in Fuego right now. They are on fire. 11 and 0 right now. You know, they beat BYU.
00:08:33
Speaker
strength of schedule. They were going to play Louisiana. They beat them in the regular season 3027. But that thing got canceled COVID reasons. so Unfortunate for Coastal Carolina could have gotten higher um in the college football playoff rankings. But today's Selection Sunday, um you know, anything could happen on Selection Sunday. They could go up, could go down.
00:08:56
Speaker
But this Coastal Carolina team has shown a lot of fight this year. And I mean, you you gotta be if you're a Coastal Carolina this fan this year, you couldn't be happier on their performance this year. Build off it. What they can do is just build off it and you know make the college football playoffs sooner rather than later.
00:09:15
Speaker
You know, it's what UCF tried to do and now it's what Cincinnati is going to try to do. But if you're a Coastal Carolina fan, you cannot be happier of how this team played this year. No losses. um Just great job by Coastal Carolina. Great job by the Chanticleers.

Northwestern's Defense & Playoff Predictions

00:09:32
Speaker
At number 11, we have Iowa State. I mean, this team played great since their first two losses, but in the end they just cannot, you know, beat Oklahoma, Oklahoma for the second time. and I mean, Oklahoma is a very good team. They're coming off of a one and two start. Now here we are, seven game winning streak there. Both those teams were on fire. Just Oklahoma wanted it a little bit more and they just got off to a really bad start um down 24, seven and a half. So it's hard to come back from that, especially since Oklahoma has probably more fans there considering that Oklahoma is so close to Arlington, Texas. so
00:10:13
Speaker
Um, you know, great fight from Iowa state way to try to come back. I think the last pass that Brock Purdy threw, I think you just got to throw it away because you have another down to play with and you can just try to try to do something on that down. Um, but a great season by Iowa state possibly can still make the new year six bowl. So, you know, great job by Iowa state this year. At number 12, you're probably guessing it's, I don't know, but it's Indiana.
00:10:43
Speaker
Come on, I mean, this team, great. Everyone, at the beginning of the season, everyone, including me and everyone, they're saying that Indiana cannot, they're not a football school, and they're not they they're not a sports school, and they're not a, but you know what, they are. I mean, from now on, if their guys come back next year is their year, okay? ah Justin Fields is leaving.
00:11:08
Speaker
ah ah some guys on Ohio State they're leaving. So you know what? Now that's your year to win your side of the Big 10 because great team. Michael Penix will probably be back. Fry Fogo will be there. You know, a great Indiana team six and one. And if you're an Indiana fan, you cannot be happier of this year. um Almost beating Ohio State. That's rare. Last year only one team did that and that was in the college football playoff. I'd seen that made the championships.
00:11:38
Speaker
You know, great job by Indiana this year. At number 13, we got North Carolina having a great year this year. Okay. Um, eight and three at the end, you know, they had some very big wins. Miami was one of them.
00:11:54
Speaker
And they just, they were, they were very good. Sam Howell having a great year coming back next year, hopefully for them. Great running back duo with Carter and Williams. So, you know, they got some high hopes for next year and possibly in Notre Dame leaves the conference. They have a tiny chance at, guess what? The ACC championship.
00:12:17
Speaker
So great job by North Carolina. Hopefully they can keep this going and have a winning season next year and for many to come. At number 14, we have Iowa 6 and 2. They started the year 0 and 2, but guess what? They're on a six game winning streak. I think they're just barely going to miss out on one of those New Year's six goals. And they might not want to play a bowl game anyway, because i mean a lot of teams don't want to.
00:12:43
Speaker
and you know it's gonna be a great year for them and next year they can keep playing. But, you know, they're a team that, you know, consistently every single year they're, winning they're a very good team. So if they can keep that going, keep recruiting well, you know, they, they have high hopes and they lost a lot in the draft. They lost a few players that were really good for them. Um, anyways, at number 15, the last top 15 team, it's Northwestern. yeah Come on.
00:13:15
Speaker
This defense is insane. Only giving up 22 points against one of the top offenses in the land. In the country, in Ohio State. That is and really impressive. I mean, great job by Northwestern. And you know, I think that they're a very good team. They got, they can keep this going, you know, keep playing well. You know, they're a great team and you know, if they can build off this year, no one thought they'd be this good. and You know, if the guys want to come back and, you know, I should come back and help this team win a few more games because this team has a ton of potential, can do a lot of damage. So, you know, watch out for Northwestern if you're in the big 10, because I mean, they're coming at you. All right. So now I'm going to predict, well, based on these rankings, the new year six rules. So.
00:14:12
Speaker
have six of them, including the college football playoffs. So number one, Alabama versus number four, Texas A and M. Come on, man. It's just crazy. This is a great game. No Jalen Waddle for Bama, most likely. So I'm picking Alabama to win it, but in a very close one, going 52 to 42.
00:14:41
Speaker
Actually, you know what? No, A&M is not going to score that much. I'm like 49 for Alabama. And let's, let's be real. Uh, probably like 28 for A&M. I just proved that Florida's offense is better. Okay. So at number two, we have Clemson and they're playing Ohio state rematch maybe of last year. But I think Clemson is going to win. I mean, come on, man. Seriously. I mean, I mean,
00:15:11
Speaker
Really, Ohio State's defense is here. It's very, very, very not great. It's not playing well at all. I mean, look, it's like they haven't had any good games besides the Northwestern game.
00:15:27
Speaker
So it's gonna be tough for them if they can stop Trevor Lawrence on just a and just like five of their drives, three, four, or five of their drives, and just force field goals on those, and you score touchdowns consistently, is their a victory. Unfortunately, I don't think they'll be able to do that. And Clemson's got an Eastern defense, so I think they're gonna win the game. At number...
00:15:51
Speaker
So I'm going to predict the championship, which is Alabama Clemson. I don't think if Jayla Waters back, it's it's absolutely Alabama's only. I don't think you will. I think Alabama's only. I think the final score will be 63. I'm getting now I'm not sick probably to 38. Look, I mean, Clemson's a great team, but I mean, Alabama's got some stuff with them, so I'm going with Bama.
00:16:20
Speaker
if that's what actually ends up happening. At number five versus number 12. So we have Notre Dame versus Indiana. I wanna pick Indiana so badly. If they had Michael Penix Jr., I would pick them, but they don't. So I think that, you know, the victory will go to ah Notre Dame. I'm going 35 to 17.
00:16:49
Speaker
And the number six versus 11 game got Florida and Iowa State. That's a great game. But Florida's defense has been questionable all year, all year. So they have had of two games that they were good, Tennessee and Kentucky. So I really, I want to pick either team could win. But in my opinion, it's Florida. Why? Because of their dang offense. Their offense is insane.
00:17:18
Speaker
Kyle Trask, Kyle Pitts, Kateria's, Tony, Trayvon Graz, I don't even want to get through more. Because they are absolutely insane. And in that game, they could probably use the run game like they couldn't do against Alabama. They absolutely could, because they have a decent run game. It's just that you know they're playing alaba and Alabama, and Alabama's stopping it. The only guy that could run well was Kyle Trask. And I don't know when they started that, but since it's working, you know they keep doing it. I think they'll win that game.
00:17:47
Speaker
about 63 to 52.
00:17:55
Speaker
The seven versus 10 game is Oklahoma versus Coastal Carolina. Oh my goodness, this game is good. I know you're probably thinking, no, this game is terrible. Oklahoma is going to go to Spank City, but I don't. I mean, it's it's pretty close. I mean, Coastal Carolina is a great team.
00:18:13
Speaker
No one says they are. They're saying, oh, their schedule's bad. But you see that? They beat BYU. They beat BYU in those Cougars. They beat Zach Wilson and the Cougars. They're a good team. They beat Louisiana in that team. They beat L.A. Lafayette. I mean, they're a good team. And you know what? The respect needs to be higher for them. The credit needs to be higher for them. Like, all the Power Five teams are like, oh my gosh, you're loving to know. Great job.
00:18:41
Speaker
But how about for Coastal Carolina? They're allowing to know and no one gives them any credit. They're a great team. All right. No one says that, but they're a great team. I think they're going to beat Oklahoma 35 to 31.
00:18:58
Speaker
All right. So at number eight and nine, we got a really good one. JT Daniels and his squad Georgia against. Oh wow. Cincinnati.
00:19:10
Speaker
Desmond Ritter in that squad. Okay. That's, that's pretty, it's pretty hot right there. That's pretty, this close one. um I mean, look, it's in the end, it comes down to the defense because Georgia's offense is playing way better now that JT Daniels is playing well. George Pickens back, you know, ah I'm going Georgia to win it. You know, SEC over AAC most of the time.
00:19:39
Speaker
um Unless it's Vanderbilt, then usually not. So, you know, great job this year by both teams, but I just don't think Cincinnati is going to pull off the all undefeated season. Thank you so much for listening to this episode of ELA Studio Sports. See.
