Eli's Studio Sports Overview
00:00:00
Speaker
Hello, welcome to the first episode of Eli's Studio Sports. Today we will be discussing how the Cowboys can do their trades, how they can sign DAC, and more. So first I would love to talk about who the Cowboys could sign at safety. Now they don't really have to sign anybody.
Cowboys' Defensive Signings: Adams or Clowney?
00:00:20
Speaker
They could sign Jamal Adams or Jadavion Clowney. A lot of people say they should take both, but I really do not think that's the best idea because they already have two solid safeties in Haha, Clint and Dix and Xavier Woods. If they sign Jamal Adams, they'll have a third powerhouse that can really help out. He has Pro Bowl experience.
00:00:46
Speaker
and he really knows how to help a team. He's the reason why they got seven wins in New York. If he weren't there, they would have gone 0-16. Jadavion Clowney, on the other hand, is spectacular. He played a couple of years on the Texans and then moved over to Seattle and played like a superstar. I really do not think they should take both, but a lot of people think they should. Now,
00:01:13
Speaker
If you really want one of the other, then they should really think who is going to be a bigger impact on the team. Do you want the guy who's going to lead one more win than last season and lead us to a nine and seven, just barely missed the playoffs team? Or do you want a guy who's going to increase our wins by five games and make us the one or two seed?
00:01:43
Speaker
Instead of being the last year or just barely missing the playoffs and last year they could have made the playoffs. They got they were really, really needed a better coach. If they had McCarthy last year, and they would have made the playoffs. Now, in my opinion, they should just take
Cowboys' Rookies and Contract Management
00:02:01
Speaker
Jamal Adams. I mean.
00:02:04
Speaker
Now don't get me wrong, please do not get me wrong, Jadaveon Clowney is an amazing football player at safety. Now the Cowboys need a faster player and they're basically equal but I think Jamal Adams can lead a team better and he could be a nice leader along with Dak Prescott, Ezekiel Elliott, Amari Cooper,
00:02:27
Speaker
or anybody else on that team that has leading experience. It doesn't necessarily have to be Patrick Mahomes that they have to take.
The Dak Prescott Dilemma
00:02:39
Speaker
Now, any team would love to have Patrick Mahomes, but they can get who they need.
00:02:45
Speaker
They don't need to get Patrick Mahomes. They just need a solid player. And that's what they need at safety. They have Xavier Woods and Haha Clinton-Dix, but that's clearly not enough. They need more on the defensive end. You saw it last year. They didn't have that much. And they might have to switch Chito Awuzie over there to safety, but they don't have to.
00:03:11
Speaker
then that's perfect but if they don't have to they have to get at least Jamal Adams or Jadavian Clowney and if they can take both that's an option but do they really need to do that or can they just take one and like I said before Jamal Adams is probably the better choice the only reason why they might take to Davion Clowney over Jamal Adams is because he's you know he doesn't get as frustrated Jamal Adams is demanding a trade Davion
Critique of Cowboys' Signing Strategies
00:03:44
Speaker
Clowney is in Seattle saying well I don't really need to trade we've got Russell Wilson and more on this team so he has he is more like a
00:03:54
Speaker
player who really understands the team, what to do, how this team can win, what pieces need help, what pieces are amazing, and and Jamal Adams clearly just doesn't know how to help his teammates to get to the other level.
00:04:12
Speaker
and that's the only problem they're facing with taking Jamal Adams because there are plenty of players on that Dallas Cowboys roster that need to get better and I mean if you look at their depth chart they have a solid one now another thing they need to be concerned about is they still haven't signed all their rookies that they took in the track if they don't sign those players soon they're not going to be able to play Like I was checking the depth charts and there wasn't CD Land because he hasn't been signed. There isn't Bradley and A. He hasn't been signed. there There's not Trayvon Diggs. He hasn't been signed. They need to sign their rookies. They need to find out how to sign their players.
00:04:54
Speaker
I mean, they just panicked and signed Elliot, didn't know how he was gonna play. They could've put the franchise tag on him and see how he played for a year. Instead, they panicked, signed him for six years for a ton of money, and he very he underperformed.
00:05:12
Speaker
And Tony Pollard was way better than him. So that's one thing you're going to have to think about. um Now, I would say the same thing for Dak. I don't necessarily think they'll sign him this season, and i I'll be surprised if they don't, but I won't be shocked.
00:05:32
Speaker
um So, Dak is a very good player. Now, some years he's played better than the other. So if this year, the year he's under the franchise, Dak, if he doesn't play great,
00:05:47
Speaker
ah Don't sign him again. Maybe you can tag him again. But I know there are 10 teams that are willing to sign Dak for four years. There are 10. And maybe they won't do it this offseason because free agency and the draft is over. But Dak needs to be signed. And if Dak has a very, very good friendship with this Dallas Cowboys team. If they break it apart over one year, that's just a waste. And now they're gonna have to use Andy Dalton and all of that. And they don't need Andy Dalton. They need a leader. And Andy Dalton, the year he was a leader, he led his team to a two and 14 season.
Cowboys' Leadership: McCarthy and Prescott
00:06:28
Speaker
Two and 14. They don't need a guy who leads them to two and 14. They need a guy who leads them to playoffs. That's why they took Mike McCarthy. They knew he could lead them to a Super Bowl ring. So, Dak can lead them to a Super Bowl ring. We all know that.
00:06:48
Speaker
And the Cowboys are missing opportunities. It's just a year. And maybe that one year can be this franchise tag, and then you agree to that four-year deal. And again, if Dak underperforms, as they can, I guess, take Andy Dalton. And they took another guy in the draft, but again, they still haven't signed anybody. And we don't know if that guy can perform because he's from D2. That's the basketball.
00:07:15
Speaker
version but he's not from the bigger leagues on the best teams he came from James Madison University and I don't know I mean he could be amazing could be Amazing in college and not great in the NFL and I don't think he's gonna be a great NFL player because he's just not used to the better teams and Some of those players are like CD lamb. He's in the big 12 Trevon digs He's in the SEC. So it's just a matter of who knows what's coming and Dak knows what's coming so
00:07:53
Speaker
that's why they need to sign DAC whether it's this year or next year or any year the only reason why they might choose Dalton over DAC and they will not trust me this is the only reason that makes sense is because He's playing in his hometown. That's literally the only reason. That's just a very bad reason. Just because you're playing in your hometown does not mean you get some special treatment.
Impact of Potential Retirements on Defense
00:08:24
Speaker
um ah Anyways, so the next thing we need to talk about is Randy Gregory. And I know this been this has been going on for a month or two, but He said to CBS Sports, he does not plan to re to play in the NFL this season, quote, I'm planning on retiring for good this time. So that could be a problem. He brings present to presence to their defense. And without that presence, they might.
00:09:07
Speaker
have a loss on the defense. That's one of the reasons why they're taking Jamal Adams or Jadavian Clowney. I know they don't play the same position, defensive end in safety, but it's still, still a very still position. It's not a great idea, but it's not the worst idea on the guy that they took. They took Alden Smith. Okay. So he hasn't played in like four years. Um,
00:09:36
Speaker
So he might be very rusty, and that's a very big problem because it might take him a season or two to get back into shape. There's no way he'll get back to what he used to be in a game. um He's a former pro bowler, and that's a pretty good sign. He's played 59 games in his career, has 39 assists, 47.5 sacks, that's amazing. One interception, six yards off interceptions, and six forced fumbles. Well, first two stats are amazing.
00:10:06
Speaker
The interceptions and yards-off interception, eh, it's okay. And the six-force fumbles is pretty good, so. He's only played four years in his career, but he's already 30 years old, so that's the only concern, really. um But, again, their offense is already stellar. um And their defense is already a pretty good defense. Now, I'm gonna talk about the Cowboys offense really quick.
In-depth Analysis of Cowboys' Offense
00:10:34
Speaker
So first their quarterback is Dak Prescott. He's technically still on the team because he hasn't traded and he still signed the franchise tag. And that could be a huge factor to the Jamal Adams or Jadavion clown trade. But. OK, so they have Dak at quarterback at running back. They have Zeke. um I honestly think Tony Pollard is a better player overall.
00:11:01
Speaker
Or at least last season, I know that Zeke has been amazing over his career, but last season was his worst season of his career so far. And no disrespect to Zeke, but I really think he needs to step it up or else Tony Pollard will be the starting runner back on the Cowboys.
00:11:22
Speaker
Now, they have the best offensive line in the NFL. I mean, if you're going to start playing, you need to know who, well if you're going to start coaching, you need to know who your offensive line is going to be. And the Cowboys did a great job picking. um They took a Pro Bowler, so that's pretty good. um They have wide receivers and a Mari Cooper Pro Bowler, my man, great player.
00:11:49
Speaker
They have Michael Gallup, in my opinion, is one of the most underrated players in the NFL. I mean, that kid's amazing. He gets so many explosive plays and nobody even talks about him. Remember that game against Philadelphia where they lost?
00:12:07
Speaker
Who had all the explosive catches? Quick answer, it was Michael Gallup. He was doing so much for this team last year. In my opinion, and this is going to surprise a lot of you, it's going to get you guys mad, but um Michael Gallup is the best player on that team. Now, Mari Cooper is still very talented, Dak as well, but They need a guy who can play, be explosive, lead them to touchdowns and field goals. um Touchdowns better, but still field goals are three points. Sometimes that's the difference between winning and losing. um They have the third best offense in the NFL.
00:12:54
Speaker
um they Their third and second is probably the Ravens with Lamar Jackson and again It's a pretty good offense, but Lamar Jackson art automatically puts you in second. Like automatically. You don't need anybody else. Cause he won MVP. I honestly think Mahomes should have won it. The only reason why Patrick Mahomes didn't win MVP that season is because he got injured for four games. But still.
00:13:29
Speaker
Lamar Jackson is a very good player. That's all I have to say for you to believe me. It's it's I really I'm not lying to you. He's
Top NFL Offenses: A Broader Perspective
00:13:38
Speaker
an amazing player and there's no denying Okay, there's no denying it. Last but not least, I don't know why anybody could have any argument of against this team being at first. Is, hmm, maybe the Kansas City Chiefs? Of course, that's kind of obvious.
00:14:00
Speaker
I mean, quarterback, the best in the league, I think one day he might be the best NFL player in history. My man Pat Mahomes, Patrick Mahomes, he won MVP in his first year starting. That is just unheard of. And, hmm, wide receiver, Tyree Kill.
00:14:23
Speaker
I mean that route that he ran in the Super Bowl against San Francisco was spectacular. I mean Mahomes made a great call and what a route by my man Tyreek. At tight end they have Travis Kelsey. I mean this offense is unstoppable.
00:14:44
Speaker
And there's more. They still have more on that team. They still have Sammy Watkins. Oh, and they're running back almost one MVP of the Super Bowl. I really don't know how he didn't win it. I mean, and MVP of the season should have been Mahomes. MVP of the Super Bowl should have been their running back. I mean, Patrick Mahomes didn't play great in that game until that Amazing Routes. And their running back still made plenty of solid catches.
00:15:12
Speaker
Um, but anyways, that is okay because he still got the respect he deserved and he was very underrated. He's one of the most underrated. He's like Michael Gallup. He's explosive. He gets solid eight yard runs almost every time he's up there and that's what the chiefs need. And now we're going to talk about what teams Jamal Adams might go to.
00:15:38
Speaker
First up is the Cowboys, of
Jamal Adams Trade Scenarios
00:15:40
Speaker
course. I mean, again, he's a perfect fit for that Dallas team. There is no way that Dallas won't try to get a safety. And if he goes to Dallas, they're automatically in a position to almost win a Super Bowl.
00:15:59
Speaker
Um, the next team he might go to is the Cleveland Browns. They need defense. They have plenty of offense. They've got OBJ, Baker Mayfield, Jarvis Landry. Now they need some defense. So really all they need is get some guys and Of course, they need defense and Jamal Adams is the perfect guy. So that's really who they should get. um We also have the Kansas City Chiefs. They have Tyron Matthew on defense. Who else? Nobody.
00:16:36
Speaker
But if they can take Jamal Adams or possibly Jadavion Clowney, they are going to be the best roster in NFL history. Trust me, my man. It is an amazing team if they can just sign Jamal Adams. So if they do that, they're already to the next level in rosters. So they need to sign Jamal Adams. Trust me, they have to. They absolutely have to sign Jamal Adams and if they don't there's still plenty of safeties but if they can have two of the best safeties in the game then they're in a great advantage because they already have the best offense in the game and if they can take the best defense in the game that's just amazing.
00:17:26
Speaker
um The next team is the San Francisco 49ers. Now, they're already great. They made the Super Bowl. But the other thing they need is a second man on defense. They already have really good defense. It's solid, rock solid. And they need a guy who can help Richard Sherman. In the Super Bowl against the Patriots, he played great when he was on the Seahawks. And again, that was a sloppy throw from Russell Wilson to end the game. but It's okay. According to interviews with Eric Adelson and the coach, they were trying to waste a play, but you know, it's okay. They still have other Super Bowls and if they wanted, it they'd be a very explosive dynasty.
00:18:13
Speaker
Now, San Francisco has a solid offense. I'm not going to say a great offense because it's not a great offense. It's not great. It's a good team. It's not a great team.
00:18:26
Speaker
Their defense, again, it's Richard Sherman, and then there's nobody else to help him out. If they can just really, really get one extra guy, it could be Jadavian Clowney, it could be Jamal Adams. But Jamal Adams is a demanding a trade. He is. So if they can get a guy who's demanding a trade, it's going to be way easier than getting a guy who doesn't necessarily want to trade.
00:18:51
Speaker
So that's the only thing they need to turn into a Super Bowl dynasty amazing team. and the last team he might go to is Philadelphia and they already signed some guys this offseason I don't know any reason why Philadelphia would want him but he still could fit on that team he has solid solid rock solid rock really rock solid experience against the Eagles and it's not always a win because the Jets never win that much but
00:19:27
Speaker
What they need to do is get another guy. I already know they signed Gary Sillay, but if they can sign Jamal Adams, ugh, the Cowboys aren't going to start crying. I mean, They really, really won't be happy, although they still have a chance at getting clowny. Cowboys won't be happy because the Eagles have like a great, great roster. And this is the Eagles chance to get what they want. This is their chance. So if they can do it, they should try it. And if they can do it,
00:20:02
Speaker
They shouldn't try it, but I think they're going to try it. They're trying to make the playoffs after last year's embarrassing. Nine and seven make the playoff year.
Steelers and Roethlisberger's Comeback
00:20:13
Speaker
I mean, that's just never going to happen again. I mean, it's like one of the worst playoff making records ever.
00:20:20
Speaker
The last thing we're going to talk about in this episode is Ben Roslesperger. He is recovering from his knee surgery and he also admitted some of his fast addictions. You can check that on ESPN.
00:20:36
Speaker
but he's recovering from his knee surgery. That's a plus sign for the Pittsburgh Steelers. Um, they had a great backup quarterback last year. I can't even, there are, he could be on 15 teams and he could be a starter on all 15, but Ben Roethlisberger brings present to that Pittsburgh team. And I think that's exactly what they need.
00:21:05
Speaker
There's one problem. He's, I mean, he's getting older and every player gets older. Every person gets older. But I don't know if he's going to be able to compete with the younger guys. um He still has some guys next to him, including Juju Smith Schuster and more, but.
00:21:24
Speaker
remember it's still a football game anybody could win whether it's Bengals playing against the Chiefs the Bengals can still win but they have like a point one percent chance of doing it but still all they need to do is As soon as Ben Roethlisberger is back, tell him what they did with their backup last year. Tell him that that was the style that led them to go 8-8, which i don't I know, trust me, it's not great, but he they lost their first couple of games and then they won a ton in a row. If Ben can do that, but start off with the a ton in a row, they're going to make the playoffs. That's all they need to do.
