Hello welcome to the 20th episode of ELI Studio Sports.
NFL Playoff Predictions Overview
00:00:05
Speaker
Today I will be predicting the seeds of the NFL playoffs and I'll be um speaking a summary of each college football playoff game Alabama versus Notre Dame and Clemson versus Ohio State.
NFC Playoff Seed Predictions
00:00:19
Speaker
So let's get started with the NFL standings. So in the NFC um the one seed I think Is the best team has the best quarterback one of the best in the nfl in my opinion second behind patma holmes i think Packers are first obviously They're 12 and three right now could go up to three with a win this weekend um aaron rogers at quarterback mark has vales skeleton and um devontae adams at wide receiver helping him out So I think this
Analysis of Seahawks' Season
00:00:52
Speaker
is a good team. I think you know, they they have a chance at going all the way to the super bowl
00:00:57
Speaker
two seed I got the Seahawks um they are the two seed right now in front of the Saints so you know they're doing fine but they're losing some games against good teams they could be 12 and three right now they really could be 13 and two um they should have beat the Cardinals the first time they played them and they should have beat the Giants so you know it's been a up and down season for the Seahawks, but they're still at
NFC East Playoff Scenarios
00:01:21
Speaker
11 and four. They had a good start, but since that seven to no start, they're four and four. So, you know, it could go back. They could go downhill at number three. I have the saints. Um, this, this is only because, I mean, the NFC East winner is not going to be very good. So they're the three seed, um, with Drew Brees at quarterback, the four seed, this is the closest one. So,
00:01:45
Speaker
It's either the Washington football team, New York Giants or Dallas Cowboys. Um, I picked the Cowboys.
Wild Card Contenders in NFC
00:01:52
Speaker
I think if Alex Smith plays, I think it's going to be the football team, but if not, then I think the Cowboys are, um, on top of it. They're the only functioning ah offense in the NFC East. You know, um, it's going to be tough for Washington. They're playing a decent Eagles team. Um, Jalen hurts. Uh, if he plays well, if he plays,
00:02:11
Speaker
You know, that they'll I think that, um you know, Washington might lose. At number five, I've got the Buccaneers.
Bears and Cardinals Playoff Chances
00:02:20
Speaker
They're a good team. They're at 10 and five right now. I think they need to win. I know. um I know they'll be in the fifth spot anyway, but I just think they need to win to, you know, do stuff.
00:02:32
Speaker
At number six, I've got the Rams. They've had an up and down season, but I think they can beat the Cardinals since, you know, Kyler Murray's going to be like, you know, he's going to be half hurt, half not hurt, but Jared Goff needs to have a good game. All right. And so does the defense. So if that happens and they have a chance of winning the seven seed, the last seed, the bears, you know, but like the Cardinals don't win. They're out. So now I don't think they will win.
00:03:01
Speaker
I mean, if the Bears lose and so do the Cardinals, I guess the Cardinals are in, but I just think the Bears, you know, they have a higher chance of winning.
AFC Playoff Seed Predictions
00:03:10
Speaker
We'll go over to the AFC now. ah Number one, the Chiefs, that's already decided. Number two, the Bills, they just have to win. um And the Steelers, if the Steelers lose, they're also in. Anyways, the number three, we have the Steelers. I don't know if they've they'll be able to beat the Browns. I think they will.
00:03:33
Speaker
At number four, I've got the Titans. um I think, you know, I think that's a potential team. I think it has a lot of potential. um I think they can play well though. So, you know, watch out for the Titans. I think they can be the fourth seed. Number five, we got the
Dolphins and Colts Playoff Scenarios
00:03:49
Speaker
Ravens. I know, but they're hot right now. I don't expect them to lose. They're a really good team, so.
00:03:56
Speaker
um You know, I think they're gonna be a fifth and then at number six we got the Dolphins to a um Ryan Fitzpatrick has been ruled out because of Covid But I think the Dolphins can win I think they can get lucky with one lucky loss Maybe the Browns losing or maybe the Colts and then at number seven the Colts. It's because of the defense It's not because of the offense. I promise you so I I think the Colts make it at the seventh seed. All right.
College Football Playoff Summaries
00:04:24
Speaker
Now we're going to go through the summaries of each college football playoff game. All right. So in the first, ah we're going to start off with Alabama Notre Dame. So here we go. Alabama
Alabama's Dominant Performance
00:04:34
Speaker
has, gets the ball second. Okay. So they start off getting a very quick stop. Although Notre Dame's running game. I mean, Kyra Williams, you know,
00:04:46
Speaker
That's the danger for Alabama in this game. Kyron Williams, a great running back. You've got to watch out for him. um Early, they get a quick third down, three an ounce stop. So then Alabama drives on the um all the way to the Notre Dame 26 yard line around. Okay. So, Devontae Smith is on the left side of the field and the problem there is that there's only two defenders covering that side of the field. There are guys and in the middle and the left middle. That's not enough to cover Devonte Smith. They do a screen pass to him. He runs by all the other guys. You know, it's an easy touchdown, 26 yard touchdown um by Devonte Smith. So then Alabama gets another stop. So then they get the ball back. Najee Harris,
00:05:37
Speaker
Looks like Notre Dame has him stop and then he just explodes Hurdles a guy gets up 53 yard run to the 12 yard line ah That's I mean Najee Harris. He's almost unstoppable. I think he He's just phenomenal. I don't He's the best running back in college football without a doubt. So, you know, watch out Ohio State because he's coming at you ah and then on the next play Mack Jones with a nice float 12 yard touchdown pass to Jaleel Billingsley. Okay, so now Notre Dame with the ball back, they need to score a touchdown here. If field goal doesn't cut it, you're you basically already lost the game if you don't score a touchdown. So here it is. They do a screen pass to Kyron Williams.
00:06:28
Speaker
and he is gone. He gets to the Alabama 45 yard line on that 27 yard pass. So here it is. They get another um set of yards. Kyra Williams kept running the ball for Notre Dame. It was all the the whole game. That was their strategy. Keep running it until the second half and they got down, but great job by Kyra Williams. Kept running, got them to the one yard line. there They're, they're at fourth in goal at like basically one foot line.
00:06:58
Speaker
And then Kyron Williams runs it in for the touchdown. It's just a simple up the middle gut run, but he got in there, so. Next, Matt Jones, three passes, ah ah like one crazy um to the left, getting basically the defender getting away with a huge pass interference.
00:07:21
Speaker
Mac Jones throws three passes in a row, 73 yards, including a 34 yard, again, Devontae Smith ah touchdown. I and just Notre Dame in the first half could not stop Mac Jones, Devontae Smith, or Nashi Harris. They could not stop the big three at all. And that that was a problem for them because if they stop the big three, no one else was doing anything. Like Jaleel Billingsley did a few things.
00:07:50
Speaker
And the O-line did well, that's it. Like, that's it. Or if you stop then, okay, if you score points to win the ballgame. And that's a problem. Anyways, so then Notre Dame gets the ball back. Alabama, a very quick stop. It only takes them about three minutes to get a stop. Then, surprise. So Alabama gets the ball near me.
00:08:16
Speaker
And then, I mean Notre Dame actually getting good pass coverage. That's what they needed to do the whole game. They did it more in the second half. They could not cover the pass. And they they did that better. They covered the run game well. They forced to stop. Okay, so Ian Book. Now they have the ball. He runs it twice. Then you get and your he a complete pass to Ben Skironic.
00:08:42
Speaker
um All right. So now you're in Alabama territory. You're doing stuff. Okay, you get into basically feelable range you go into ah the yard line where it'd be Jonathan doors career long of 51 yarder He made it the week before against Clemson and here it is. It's slightly deflected and then I mean he he was short by about 10 like he was short by about seven yards, so um Yeah, no good by Jonathan Dorrer. So then Alabama gets the ball first in the second half and nothing gets going. Alright, so now Notre Dame you get the ball back and it looks like OK, so Ian Book is under pressure. He makes a nice what looks like a very nice catch and then oh no, it gets intercepted. It was a bad pass. It was under thrown by a lot.
00:09:38
Speaker
the I mean, the receiver had no chance. Um, Christian Harris just runs in and says, nope. He intercepts it. I mean, if you throw that about 10 yards farther, maybe five yards farther, that's a, that's to the house. That's a touchdown. But instead, since he was under pressure, he couldn't do that. It was intercepted a great job by the Alabama defense. Then here we go.
00:10:05
Speaker
um They get a nice like in the air is probably like what 20 yards to John Metche and then he just Explodes he runs all the way to the Notre Dame 22 yard line But I want to get credited Avante Smith on that putt. He was a great blocker. I mean no one no one did anything there Except for the Avante Smith, Mack Jones, and John Metche. Okay Notre Dame looked like they were gonna tackle him right when he caught it and ah Like five yards after he caught it no Devontae Smith doing well blocking him great job getting to the Notre Dame 22 in striking distance Alright, they get they get another first down get it to the seven-yard line on And then again, it's Devontae Smith He was actually
00:10:50
Speaker
uh, slow to get up after that play. But nonetheless, it was a seven yard touchdown pass
Notre Dame's Defensive Struggles
00:10:56
Speaker
to Devonta Smith. Okay. So this one's big. All right. Notre Dame. You have the ball. You're you like, you can do stuff. And then, Oh no. Ian book gets hurt on a sack. Okay. So then they call and then the, um, Z. So big, um, he didn't do terrible though. Um,
00:11:20
Speaker
Then, um, Drew Pine came in. That's his name. Anyway, so then Alabama, they get the ball back. They drive all the way to the 25 yard line. Then they throw an incomplete pass. Will Reacher. Um, he's done great all year. He has no incomplete passes or income. Sorry. No miss field goals all year long. And guess what?
00:11:44
Speaker
He made another one. um um I mean, come on. This 2021 now, things are going to get much better. And Alabama, Will Richard, he's still doing it. 41 yard field goal made right down the move.
00:12:00
Speaker
All right, so here it is, Notre Dame, great drive, they're running the ball a little bit better, but then Ian Book starts starting it much better, getting a few downfield passes incomplete, then he just decides to go on the short game and running the ball himself a little bit more. Then he, all right, so you get fourth and one, and they don't run it when they have, when the running game has been super hot, terrible decision in my opinion by Brian Kelly,
00:12:28
Speaker
And then, I mean, you're down 31-7. Why can't you... You gotta be able to run the ball well. And Kyra will you just stay and so let him practice that. I mean, I know this might be E-book's last game, but... Like, let Kyra and Willy run the ball first and finally score. Okay. Anyways.
00:12:48
Speaker
He throws it and it's incomplete at the 13 yard line of Alabama and he was 4th down. They could've kicked it, they could've ran it, they could've gotten a touchdown on that play. Instead, he under threw it. The guy was getting well covered and... Me. Alright. Anyways.
00:13:08
Speaker
Next all right Alabama gets the ball and if you haven't noticed Everything I've talked about in the second half. It's been very good defense by Notre Dame They improved but the offense was not helping them out. They did not score so far in the second half In the most part of the summer. So anyways, here it is Alabama gets the ball. All right. Hey Matt Jones taking his time, but the offensive line can't do anything and Notre Dame getting that sack they're great at putting pressure on people they were not able to do that too much in this game unfortunately for them though so um That happens they get the sack alright, so then Ian book alright. He's under pressure um He throws a ah real like he was just throwing it just to get rid of it But Lawrence Keys is right there, and he gets 20 yards on it then DeMarco Helams
00:14:01
Speaker
He comes right back at Notre Dame, sacks him. Okay. So Ian Book with the ball, it's fourth down. They, I mean, if you bet on this game, the line is about to get exploded. Okay. Just a warning. Okay. Cause Ian Book, it's a 15 yard pass on fourth down. It's all the way to Alabama territory. Still three and a half minutes. Come on.
00:14:25
Speaker
Alright, here it is Ian book second in goal at the one yard line He fakes it off to Kyron Williams goes the opposite direction touchdown Irish, okay, so um It's pretty obvious that they do an on-site kick here. They recover it they drive um But an incomplete game so 31 the final score I predicted it to be 56 14 in our previous episode um I mean
00:14:54
Speaker
I mean, I'm surprised I did not score two more touchdowns. I mean, I thought it was at halftime, it looked like it was going to be 42 to 10. But, um, you know, I think Notre Dame's defense, if they played that way in the first half, I'm just saying, but they might have forced it over time or maybe won the game. I know this sounds
Clemson vs Ohio State Showdown
00:15:17
Speaker
crazy. I know you're like, what the heck?
00:15:20
Speaker
But no, I mean, it's possible because they would only give up 20 points and they'd actually be trying to score a touchdown on the last play of the game when they're at the Alabama 20 yard line. Like, come on, like, come on. Anyways. All right. So they, here we go. We're going to move on to Clemson versus Ohio State, the Bucks versus the Tigers. Okay. So here we are.
00:15:45
Speaker
And all right, they're at the 26 yard line of Ohio State or not. No, I'm sorry. They're not. Anyway, so they give a pass to Travis Etn. He just runs. He is a running back, but he can absolutely catch the ball out of the backfield or not out of the backfield. He explodes. He gets all the way to the 37 yard line. OK, now. um uh so Trevor Lawrence has the ball so 27 yard pass to Cornell Powell but that's not it all right he was under pressure he was fading backwards he had to throw us a prayer to to Cornell Powell and he made a great catch he made and it was way behind him he made one of those over your head catches um he was and he had the foot in bounds that was
00:16:35
Speaker
ah Great catch by Cornell Powell got into the five yard line. Okay, so on second goal. They're at the two now Trevor Lawrence runs it in um Kind of like that one with Kyron Williams fakes it to Travis ETN and runs the opposite direction For the touchdown for the Tigers. So at this point they're up seven nothing then defense. All right, so it's 32 for um ah Ohio State. I love the play call But Justin Fields does not stretch his arm out on the play. It's third and two. He ran it. Got one yard instead of two. Should have stretched his arm out. They would have gotten a touchdown on it. Or not a touchdown. Sorry, first down. But no. OK, that's not what happened. Anyways, here it is. So Clemson gets a quick first down. Then they get the ball again. And I mean, they just again, when you have good pass coverage,
00:17:33
Speaker
Against Clemson you can do stuff except this time there wasn't good pass coverage. Okay. All right, so Trevor Lawrence under pressure again No sack though, and he throws it away and he's a wide open receiver wide open No one was there. No one was near him. Probably the closest offender was like 10 yards away So he overthrows in. Oh, all right. If he wasn't under pressure, that's that's an easy touchdown. Instead, incomplete it. And the bad thing about that is it was on third down, so um they lost the ball. And then um talk about screen passes. Do it to Trey Sermon to great game against Northwestern. Looking to do it again. And he absolutely did. Spoiler alert. And he exploded got a 34 yards.
00:18:24
Speaker
Alright, now you're at the 32 yard line, hand it off to Trey Sermon, doing some moves, then he fakes to the lead, and then the defenders just, nobody there, miscommunication by the Tigers, helping the Buckeyes get a touchdown. Okay, next Clemson drives 75 yards, okay? Alright, anyways, now, um,
00:18:50
Speaker
really for Justin Fields his go-to receiver or one of his go-to receivers all year Garrett Wilson he all right it wasn't a 47 air yard pass but it was a 47 yard completion Garrett Wilson is fast he got there and man did he just run 47 yards got him to like in deep into Clemson territory. Then two minutes later, all right, they have the ball and then just ah the luckiest touchdown I've ever seen. Okay.
Justin Fields' Impactful Plays
00:19:24
Speaker
All right. The Clemson defender tips it.
00:19:26
Speaker
Okay, then the high state guy's like, oh, Luke Farrell, he's just like, nope, I'm not catching that. That's, it's impossible. I can't catch that. Then he just sticks his hands up and he catches it against his chest. What a catch. What a lucky catch by Luke Farrell, but he got the touchdown. Eight yard lucky touchdown pass to Luke Farrell by Justin Field. Um, four tied now. Then Ohio State, man, that defense is, it's underrated. I'll tell you that.
00:19:56
Speaker
But I mean, come on, it's a good defense. Sean Wade keeping, I mean, he is great at covering people, getting another stop. And then, all right, so Ohio State's driving. And oh my goodness, is he, I mean, come on.
00:20:17
Speaker
Justin Fields is one of the most accurate quarterbacks. He's one of the best arm um release points. It's great. Then he gets another great release. He gives it to Jeremy Ruckert, a place where the defender cannot get to it. He was on the on the outside. That's how you throw the football and the defender can't get there. He doe, he tipped it again. I mean, a great catch, kind of died there, but great job.
00:20:46
Speaker
Then Ohio State gets another stop Man are they they're just stopping them. That was a quick three and out and then All right, give it a tracer and come on. He's doing everything. That's a 30-yard run Okay, so here it is second down with about ah Or sorry third down with about you know, six and six minutes left in the second quarter so Justin Fields decides to run it it was third and 15 around and Then he runs, he gets 13 yards, but to get him down, James Skalski targets him, but he doesn't hit him in the helmet like you usually see. Hit him in the ribs area. Oh my goodness, was that painful. I mean, it looked painful. Oh, okay. He looked in serious pain.
00:21:37
Speaker
That although he's got out for one game for one play and he just comes back in man Is that guy tough James Gaussian got ejected from the game? Um, and then just I mean it it it looks super painful, but you know what?
00:21:53
Speaker
It doesn't matter if he's hurt or not. Justin Fields is a monster. He gets a one of the, I mean, that's super accurate. The throw he made to Chris Olave. Okay. One of those catches where you keep your feet in bounds and you have to like stretch your arms out and keep it in bounds. Great job by Chris Olave. Great job by Justin Fields. And after that throw though, I mean, he looked in serious pain and I mean, come on, um give this guy some credit.
Ohio State's Defensive Prowess
00:22:22
Speaker
Okay. heat playing through an injury like that. And ribs are like part of how you throw. I mean, you need them. So, I mean, great job by Justin Fields. Then, okay, so it's, all right, second down and 10 for Clemson. Travis, I give it to Travis Etienne, and it looks like he has a chance of making something big. He loses three yards. It looks like he kind of slipped. Then Ohio State takes advantage, tackles him. All right, next play, third and 13.
00:22:48
Speaker
And a false start. I mean these mental mistakes that Clemson's are making. Mental and physical mistakes. You can't do that if you're Clemson. You're already down by two touchdowns. You can't do that. They're stopped four yards short of the first down, have to punt it again. Then Jeremy Rocker, he keeps doing stuff, okay? 26 yard pass by Justin Fields. How does he do it?
00:23:14
Speaker
I mean, I mean, I mean, how does he do that kind of stuff? And he's like a potential broken rib. How does he do that? And then the next play, he gives it to Jeremy record again, another diving catch, another great, accurate play. How about that? I mean, come on.
00:23:36
Speaker
touchdown Buckeyes 35-14 at the half and guess what Ohio State you get the ball first okay so here it is all right they're um they're at midfield here And Justin Fields, he can still throw down Field. What in the world? Come on. And he throws a 36-yard dime to Chris Olave. They get to the 14-yard line. Okay, here it is. This pass looked really wobbly by Justin Fields. It got deflected and it was a jump ball. It looked like Chris Olave was going to win it. No, sir. Mike Jones, Jr.
00:24:14
Speaker
big interception and what guess what? Clemson has a chance to make it a two touchdown game, get it back in a striking distance. And then guess what? Okay, they get to the 39 yard line, Trevor Lawrence looking accurate.
00:24:29
Speaker
and they gave another ball to Cornell Powell making moves running he ran about 15 yards on that play and they got a first down inside the 10 yard line first and goal and then guess what it's Cornell Powell again 10 yard touchdown all right i know this play wasn't huge but they're at the 29 yard line of their own on second and four and it looks like oh Clemson has you know great run stopping they've been able to do that Trey Sermon's not running so what else could happen oh me on Williams third string running back getting 15 yards to get to the 44 yard line then on one of the next one of the play after that um
00:25:16
Speaker
Oh wow, a 56 yard touchdown to Chris Olave. Come on, I mean, is it? I mean, like nothing happened to his ring. He was throwing it downfield anyway. I mean, that was one of the most accurate downfield throws I have ever seen as by a quarterback. And that's with a hurt ring. How do you do that, Justin Fields? And then,
00:25:38
Speaker
Alright, so Clemson. OK, so you you're really down right now. You're now by three touchdowns. You need a quick touchdown, OK? No problem, 24 yard pass to Davis Allen. Get into the 40 yard line, except there is a problem, because on the next on one of the next plays, Tommy Togiai forcing the fumble. It looks like Clemson can jump on it. Trevor Lawrence has his hand on the ball, but Nope, Ohio State recovers it.
00:26:06
Speaker
a big challenger slash review and it looked like Trevor Lawrence had the ball but he was not um he had his hand on it but he didn't he wasn't controlling it so it was ruled a fumble but no problem Clemson gets to stop But the offense, he's just having problems in this game. So you know what?
Ohio State Secures Victory
00:26:31
Speaker
Ohio State says, yup, we're going to take advantage of that. Another stop. But on the point, I mean, more penalties by Clemson, more, more, more penalties. You can't do that. You cannot do that. OK, you just can't. Then Ohio State, another downfield pass by Justin Fields, had the ball at the 45 of Clemson. They had a nice drive running the ball with Trey Sermon again.
00:26:56
Speaker
But 45 yard touchdown pass to Jamison Williams. I mean what is Justin Fields like how do you do it? I know I'm gonna keep asking this but how? Alright so like if you're Clemson now you're down by four touchdowns it's basically already over because they're in the fourth quarter at this point but Trevor Lawrence doesn't want to give up, they get to the 26 early, no turnovers, ball control, well done by Clemson, then a 26 yard touchdown pass, Cornell Powell, I mean, come on, everyone's talking about Amari Rodgers now, but no, I don't know who's better at this point, Cornell Powell or Amari Rodgers, it might be slightly Amari Rodgers, but in this game, there's no question on who played better, and that's Cornell Powell.
00:27:45
Speaker
OK, and then they got to stop saying, oh, OK, we don't lay down their touchdowns. We can do this. But all right. So you get the ball in Ohio State territory. You feeling good about this? But Ohio State, a ton of pressure again. They get the sack. Ball is loose. A Clemson recovers it, but they lose 13 yards. All right. So it's four down and eight on that same possession. you And obviously, they're not going to go for the field goal. And then, OK.
00:28:16
Speaker
Lots of pressure on it. They hit the QB. He tries a desperation three-yard pass to Travis ETN, but it wasn't even close. He was off by like three yards. So Ohio State's defense. I mean, come on. Keep doing that against Alabama, so you're gonna have to. Anyways, okay, so Ohio State, oh, they ran for a loss. Third and 15, oh no. Oh wow, Trey Sermon, 18-yard run except face mask by him. It would have been a first down anyway, but he did the face mask. So, um, they scoot him back. They have to punt and then, Oh, okay. Okay.
00:28:55
Speaker
Brayden Galloway 23-yard pass to him. They got to the Ohio State 12-yard line. Let's go. that. And it is intercepted by Ohio State. Game over 49-28. Ohio State dominating this game.
00:29:18
Speaker
I know last episode I predicted Clemson to

Speaker
win. That was awful a lot. I mean, Ohio State went great. Their defense was insane in this game. And you gotta to give them credit. You gotta to keep giving them credit. And I'm gonna agree with Michael from our last episode. I mean, know Ohio State, when't they could win the title. They could win the title. I'm just saying. I'm just saying, okay? I think they can win a title this year. And Bama,
00:29:43
Speaker
Oh my gosh, next episode we got a preview of Alabama versus Ohio State. Alright, thank you so much for listening to this episode of Eli Studio Sports. See you in the next one.
