00:00:26
Speaker
I am your host, as always, Tony 14. And joining us this week is a VTuber and a friend of Carrots, Mellow, and a bunch of other guests that we've had on FlavorfulVT.com.
00:00:41
Speaker
Woo, yeah, you can't hear it, but that's what everyone's doing right now. They're going, yeah, woo, take it off. but ah Welcome to the podcast, Slaverful. Welcome.

Favorite Games and Opinions

00:00:52
Speaker
Hey, thanks for having me. was ah when you When you hit me up about this, I was like, oh, that that sounds really neat. And you're like, what do you want to do a topic about? and I was like, oh, I got i got me an idea. Instantly.
00:01:03
Speaker
Instantly. ah Excellent. we'll be getting to those topics later in the show, as we always do. But first, since you're brand new, we get to start off with the loading screen and hot takes.
00:01:16
Speaker
And start it started off with loading screen, flavorful. What is your favorite video game? Who is your favorite video game character? And what is your favorite video game soundtrack?
00:01:27
Speaker
um Favorite video games. That's that one's really tough. I know it's most loaded question you can ask a gamer and we do it first. I know hitting hittting me hard right off the bat.
00:01:39
Speaker
I'm going to go with I'm going to I'm going to start off controversial right off the bat. I'm going to my favorite video game is Spec Ops the line. Oh, OK.
00:01:50
Speaker
Yeah. okay And then ah favorite video game character would be Kaim from Drakengard. Okay. That one's tough, though, because it might be the batter from Off.
00:02:05
Speaker
Okay. But they're basically the same character. ah Okay, good to know. And then favorite soundtrack, I'm going to go back to Drakengard again. ah The original Drakengard soundtrack is amazing. It's wonderful.
00:02:19
Speaker
It sounds like um a tea kettle being beaten to death by an air horn. but Okay. As a guy who's been

Game Difficulty Debate

00:02:29
Speaker
doing this for like now five years, I've heard many, many video games.
00:02:32
Speaker
i have, I think this is the first time I've heard of Drakengard. Oh, oh, you're in for a treat. Cause oh great up well I'm going to, going to bring it up later for sure. Oh, excellent.
00:02:43
Speaker
ah Now moving on to hot takes flavorful. What is your hottest video game take? My honest video game take is that a game being difficult doesn't make it good.
00:02:54
Speaker
Yes. Oh my 100%. But on the other hand, enjoying a game for its difficulty is also acceptable. Yeah, no, like if people to enjoy it because because of that, hey, that's fine.
00:03:08
Speaker
But like, just because it's difficult doesn't inherently make it good. And vouch for that specifically with Silksong. a Because, you know, i here's the thing. Hollow Knight was difficult, but I i don't think Hollow Knight was as difficult as Silksong is.
00:03:24
Speaker
So I only played about half of Hollow Knight. ah And then I haven't touched Silksong because I just not my kind of game, really. I'm not much of a Metroidvania guy. um But as I guess for me, it's like I've played a couple of the Soul series and a couple Souls likes. And the only ones I really the only one I really liked was Sekiro.
00:03:43
Speaker
Okay. Personally, I didn't get into the rest of them. And them being, so you know, this is a thing now where, you know, since Souls has been so popular, it's that whole get good mentality. And it's like, yeah, they're, you know, getting through a challenge.
00:03:57
Speaker
It's great. It's rewarding. It feels good. um a lot of players, you know, they get that adrenaline rush when you finally, you finally nail that boss, right? By the skin of your teeth. But at the same time, there are people who just, you know, they want to play a comfy puzzle game or like, you know Mario Kart or whatever and i think that's i think that's totally fine not everything has to be roll slot you without iframes so yes no absolutely absolutely 100 it's also why i think like if souls games added difficulties like lies of p did with ah its recent update when it brought in the dlc uh i i think more people would be akin to giving those games a shot
00:04:39
Speaker
Yeah. I mean, the way I look at it is I understand wanting to make a um a ah curated experience, right? As an auteur, there are times when you're this is what I want to make and I'm not going to change it. If you don't like it, that's fine.
00:04:55
Speaker
Right? I understand why the Souls games do that. if they If that's how they want to purvey their product, more power to them. But like you said with Lies of P, giving people that option will let more people enjoy something, and that's cool too. i it's There's nothing inherently wrong with going either direction.
00:05:15
Speaker
I just think that you know sometimes it's like...
00:05:20
Speaker
There are some Souls games that are Souls-likes, I should say. but And one specific Souls game that I'm not going to name by name because I don't want to be stabbed in my sleep. but But that are not good and are really hard, but people sort of push them up because, oh, yeah, I beat it up. so You know, I'm tough. You know, it's like, yeah, man, like.
00:05:42
Speaker
so A whole bunch of chili peppers are delicious. They're incredibly hot. Their Scoville levels levels are super high, mean but they also have rich, fruity, vibrant flavors to them. right And then there's double bomb, which is just capsaicin extract and tastes what I imagine my cat's asshole would taste like.
00:06:01
Speaker
ha Yeah. Oh, it's like also like the bomb out of all of the hot sauces that are on the hot ones. The bomb is arguably the worst. It's even worse than the last stab.
00:06:13
Speaker
Yeah, because the last stab at least tastes good. Yeah. Like it's hotter, but the bomb is you're just sitting there going like, oh, It's like, what, what, why am I licking the underside of a bus stop? Like, yeah, like, why didn't they,

Pokemon Leaks and Franchise Direction

00:06:26
Speaker
I feel like they should just make that one the last, the real last one, because then it's, that's the one that gets all the real reactions. Yeah.
00:06:32
Speaker
Yeah. But then the, but the, the last stab is, is the meme. Yeah. go It's got cultural relevance. Yeah. So maybe make the bomb the second last one, because it's like not the last one, but it's like, there's like four or five after it still usually. Right. Yeah.
00:06:47
Speaker
I think i i it's been a while since I've watched Hot Ones. I wanted to say it was like third to last. Yeah, okay. So it's still, it's where it should. as and Regardless, we're here to talk video games on Hot Sauce. Yeah, that's a different podcast. We're starting that one. We just we didn't want to, tell we we were going to save the announcement until the end, but Tony and Flavors, the Hot Ones, but Legally Distinct Hot Ones Lounge.
00:07:13
Speaker
yeah Yeah, exactly. Honestly, though, yo, if I could get my own hot sauce, that would be pretty lit. I've always, that's the one piece of merch as a YouTuber I've always wanted is my own hot sauce.
00:07:24
Speaker
I'm sure it would be full of flavor. Badum Tiss. but but Now with that, yeah. With that, I think it's time we get into our headline of the week, which um it's big.
00:07:39
Speaker
It's the Terra leak. Pokemon leaks again. ah So ah what stuff from Pokemon got leaked. um ah From what we understand of this, ah these leaks came after Pokemon What we believe a hacker group hacked into Pokemon and got a bunch of stuff.
00:08:02
Speaker
Uh, they copied it over and whatnot. Uh, included in this was stuff about legends. Yay. Uh, and a bunch of older Pokemon games, like old concept art and stuff like that. That stuff usually i think is coolest stuff that we see whenever this shit happens.
00:08:19
Speaker
Cause it's harmless, just old shit. It's fine. ZA stuff, I'm not going to talk about ZA because ZA just came out. ah Whether you are playing the game or not, the game's out now, so there's just no point to talk about the ZA stuff.
00:08:36
Speaker
ah The one thing about the ZA thing in the leak, though, that seemed to be real ah is the list for all the Pokemon that are being added in the Mega Dimension DLC and the new Megas that will be a part of that as well.
00:08:51
Speaker
But I didn't look at that because, one, i don't want to spoil myself on that because I'm going to play it. So...
00:08:58
Speaker
go Go look at it if you if you care. ah the One of the more interesting things a part of this leak was regarding Junichi Masuda and the reasoning on why he's no longer directing any of the Pokemon games.
00:09:14
Speaker
ah which is very is a very interesting read on the details of that for those documents. um But the biggest thing that kind of came out of this is a roadmap for Pokemon games over the next five years.
00:09:32
Speaker
According to what has been shared in these leaks that they put out, Game Freak's current focus is Gen 10, which is set to be released next year.
00:09:43
Speaker
ah According to the leak, the titles or the working titles right now are Pokemon wins and Pokemon waves. And it's going to have DLC in 2027.
00:09:56
Speaker
After that, they seem to be playing another Legends game with yeah something in Galar with a release window of 2027 as well or later. There's also mention of a couple region remakes in 2028 29 and then Generation 11 in 2030.
00:10:12
Speaker
and then generation eleven and twenty thirty Another leak that they posted is a thing called Project Seed, which seems to be a prototype for a next-gen online Pokemon game and a poke a real Pokemon MMO.
00:10:27
Speaker
From the sound of it, it's set in a region that'll connect Hoenn and Sinnoh, which is interesting because... I think that that connection is a north-south connection ah to my memory of the Pokemon world map. I could be wrong, though.
00:10:47
Speaker
um And that was another thing. ah And as of the leaks, Pokemon has taken action. They actually sent a cease and desist letter to Centauri Leaks.
00:10:58
Speaker
Only for Centauri Leaks to... make a counter sue thing on Twitter and post that bravely. um People are now saying, oh, they're fucking around and finding out while they're saying, well, actually, Pokemon might not be able to do much because Centurro is a user in South America and South America is one of the few regions Pokemon doesn't have a strong, like imminent presence in.

Recent Gaming News

00:11:28
Speaker
So they might actually get away with all of this. ah So it's going to be a wait and see to find out if one of the biggest ah accounts that posts Pokemon leaks, whether it's from real leaks or just theories from things on Reddit or like who you or for people who say, oh, my uncle works at Pokemon and some shit like that.
00:11:53
Speaker
you that It's evolving more than we thought it would. So we'll just have to wait and see.
00:12:03
Speaker
uh yeah what what are your thoughts on these on the tara leak flavorful Well, so i haven't um I haven't touched Pokemon as a franchise since ah Gen 3.
00:12:16
Speaker
you know i'm im I'm old and got away from it, ah but I saw a little bit, especially about the what was going on with the directors and the conflict actually between developers and how things were going. I saw a little bit about that and thought that was, for me, the most interesting thing out of it.
00:12:34
Speaker
um Yeah, absolutely. Because that... A lot of people that I know that are into Pokemon have been complaining for a long time about the direction of the games, how sort of stunted it feels. There's not a whole lot of like dynamism and, you know, upgrading these games, features getting removed that have been there from the beginning, ah performance issues on the new hardware, you know, just sort of like a, this is a yearly cash grab franchise kind of feeling.
00:13:01
Speaker
That's what I've heard from some people. And knowing that there's been these difficulties in the development cycle and sort of helps that make sense. I think there's also a lot of pressure from, from Nintendo direct, like from up above, up above from Nintendo be like, this is our cash cow.
00:13:20
Speaker
Do you better get that out when I say so? You know, when we say, when Nintendo says jump game, freak says how high, um, So, and the Pokemon company's doing their own thing, so it seems like kind of a bureaucratic mess that hopefully for Pokemon fans gets sorted out.
00:13:35
Speaker
um Because Lord only knows they've been taking some L's lately. I i saw Mega Starmie. I... yeah i'm gonna star i will say it's pretty funny i love it i genuinely i love it i think it's great i saw so many meltdowns about it like complete conniption fits i thought it was i thought it was great i was like that's what i want but other than that i just yeah i think um i something's gotta something's gotta give there with the direction and hopefully they can spend some time actually like making the next game something that pleases everybody bring the bring the franchise back again it's always gonna make money it prints money it's the biggest franchise in the world but let's let's see a step up let's get a let's get a uh miyazaki directed pokemon
00:14:25
Speaker
I'd play that. Which Miyazaki? The Dark Souls Miyazaki or the ah the up the the the movie director miaza yeah the haato Miyazaki? Miyazaki.
00:14:36
Speaker
which Wait, didn't we get we got one of those. It was a ah Level 5 made it. What was the name of that game? I don't remember. wait. No, he yeah Level 5 made a monster capturing game that Yo-Kai Watch. Oh, yeah, Yo-Kai, yeah.
00:14:51
Speaker
Yeah, it had the... it Well, it didn't have Miyazaki on board, I don't think, but it, you know, visually was similar. Yeah, yo I mean, Yo-Kai was huge in Japan because there's like three... there's a bunch of Yo-Kai Watch games. and Like, they did extremely well in Japan, and when they tried to bring it internationally, they did all right, but, like, they were never as popular as they were in Japan.
00:15:12
Speaker
Yeah. Yeah. I need to give those games a shot because they did a collaboration with Final Fantasy 14. And the collaboration was something else. And I've never grinded fate so hard in my life to get medallions to get some stupid minions.
00:15:27
Speaker
But I got them. ah ah yeah but no definitely I want Pokemon to do better i think Legends ZA is a step slightly in the right direction it's a great looking game on the Switch 2 it runs extremely well ah and it's a lot of fun um but I'm also very simple minded to a lot of things when it comes to video games hence why I don't dislike a lot of them
00:15:59
Speaker
And nothing wrong with being a cheap date. Exactly. exactly ah But we'll have to wait and see what comes of all of this with the leaks and potential lawsuit and fucking around and finding out.
00:16:11
Speaker
We'll find out more as the weeks go on. And we'll be reporting it as it goes on. With that, it's also time for us to move into everything else that has happened in the last two weeks.
00:16:21
Speaker
So we'll dive in into the week in review. Recapping the major stories of video games and the world of tabletop, looking over recent releases and reports from the Game Lounge crew, it's the week in review.
00:16:34
Speaker
And as for games that came out in these past two weeks, obviously one of the big ones, Pokemon Legends ZA, Battlefield 6, Little Nightmares 3, which is out to mixed reviews because apparently they actually had a new developer work on it, um which it was Supergiant that was developer as well from what I saw on the Steam page.
00:16:56
Speaker
And I'm like, wow, interesting that it's a bit of a very mixed bag of things there. um So that was Little Nightmares 3. also had Snoopy and the Great Mystery Club, but ah Just Dance 2026, Ball Pit.
00:17:13
Speaker
ball pits a new roguelike that takes what is it breakout and makes it a roguelite yeah the was a great game fun it looks cool but I'm back on my Hades 2 grind now that the game is fully released and I rolled credits not that long ago fantastic game I love Hades 2 a lot ah In the world of video game news, starting it off, a Minecraft movie sequel has been given its release date for July 23rd, 2027.
00:17:48
Speaker
what d what d seven Little early on telling that us this, don't you think? Well, I mean, if if they can keep that ah chicken jockey meme hype train going a little longer, um i think if anything, it's It's not that uncommon for these studios to like the first one, you know blockbuster did did. Yeah, the first one was so memorable. Like they caught lightning in a bottle with just how memorable like the movie's not good, but with just how bad it's good.
00:18:26
Speaker
they did it like great. I don't think they could do it again. I don't think so either, but what this allows the studio to do is is keep their, anytime they leak a little bit of intrigue, a little bit something, pictures from the set, you know, oh, so-and-so is going to be on the cast, that kind of thing. Yeah. It keeps it from going, you know, below the zeitgeist surface, so to speak.
00:18:50
Speaker
Yeah. is And especially but how quick they can crank these films out now. um drew i I imagine that there were plenty of bits that were either previously animated and not used in the first film that they're going to repackage for the second and do their shoots and get their marketing set.
00:19:14
Speaker
And, you know, free press saves on the marketing budget. Marketing is the most expensive part of filmmaking nowadays. Yeah. No, it definitely is. Who do you think they're going to cast as Alex?
00:19:28
Speaker
oh ah I know who I want Alex to be. Who do you want? Idris Elba. but
00:19:42
Speaker
You know what? Valid. Idris Elba, where do you go? Bring him back. bring it back. ah Speaking of movies, hey, the FNAF movie sequel has revealed the voice cast of the toy animatronics.
00:19:56
Speaker
You got Bat Pat as Toy Bonnie, Megan Fox as Toy Chica, Kellen Goff as Toy Freddy, CG5 as the cupcake Toy Chica holds, and Jack Black as the marionette.
00:20:14
Speaker
He's just in every video game movie now, huh? he's and he's the He's the live action Deborah Wilson at this point. Yeah, yeah that that that he is. ah Hey, you know what? At least they got MatPat in the second half movie as well now. You know what? I think that's cool.
00:20:32
Speaker
I think that's cool. Living the dream. He is. Season four of The Witcher on Netflix. Got new trailer. It will be debuting October ah this is is this the first This is the first season with the new Witcher, I think, as well, with ah the new actor who replaced Henry Cavill, I think.
00:20:55
Speaker
Or was it season three that did the replacement? I honestly don't remember because I think it's been a while since we last heard anything about... the Witcher series. I was under the impression that they had buried it after getting rid of Cavill. Yeah. I, I, yeah, I, I, it's been so long since I heard something. So if you still dug the show, Hey, you see on October 30th.
00:21:16
Speaker
um The Black Ops 7 beta wrapped up in Treyarch announced that the default matchmaking process will be open matchmaking over skill-based matchmaking, which has been in place since Modern Warfare 2019.
00:21:29
Speaker
um So nice to see Call of Duty switching it up for that. I know a lot of people are actually kind of happy about that. I'm based. Very based where Activision W in my opinion.
00:21:42
Speaker
Yeah. It's more of Trey arc deciding it, not Activision. So I'm not even going to give Activision the credit. Yeah.
00:21:53
Speaker
Cause why would we want to give Activision credit for anything? You know, I was, yeah, you know, you're absolutely right. I rescind my previous comments. ah Hey, Nintendo Switch Online announced a couple of new games coming to the SNES library in October.
00:22:10
Speaker
We got Bubsy and Claw's Encounter of the Third Kind, Fatal Fury Special Edition, and Mario and Wario, which is releasing outside of Japan for the very first time.
00:22:22
Speaker
Mouse controls are required for this game, so Switch 2 gets out automatically. But the Switch 1, you are allowed to plug in a USB mouse to the Switch to play that. um as they as they said so in the Mario Paint trailer, since Mario Paint was added into the SNES catalog as well a while ago.
00:22:44
Speaker
So you can just plug in a USB mouse to your Switch to play Mario and Wario if you have a Switch 1.
00:22:51
Speaker
ah ninten With Nintendo as well, Nintendo unveiled a new film animation studio under the name Nintendo Pictures Co. Limited. They put out two short films, both titled Close to You.
00:23:04
Speaker
The first one was released without Pikmin in it, and the second one had Pikmin in it, meaning babies can see Pikmin.
00:23:14
Speaker
Mind-blowing. Crazy. Very crazy. ah In French gaming news, Claire Obscure, Expedition 33, developer Sandfall Interactive, and the publisher Kepler Interactive have announced a major game update is in development according to news release.
00:23:33
Speaker
Creative director... we on broche noted. The update is intended as a thank you to the fans for their support. So Claire score expedition 33 DLC coming soon. and Yay.
00:23:46
Speaker
Fantastic. Very fantastic. I'm very excited. I loved expedition 33. I think it has a high chance of taking game of the year, but I think that as the year has gone on, it's going to be a lot more of a tighter race. And I think the fans of that game are willing to accept.
00:24:04
Speaker
I would love to see it win. I thought it was ah probably the best um you know old school ah RPG game that we've had in um maybe the better part of a decade.
00:24:17
Speaker
yeah However, we all know who's actually going to win game of the year, and that's Uma Musume Pretty Dirty. ah you know i think umusume might take uh best mobile game oh i i don't imagine anything beat tops it i will you know what i i completely forgot about that i could i don't know how i forgot umusume will probably will get nominated for that but no i think umusume will beat out all of the hoyo games for best mobile game Oh, absolutely.
00:24:47
Speaker
Which is going to be absolutely hilarious. Yeah. Because they're going to rage, but like the horse girl fans are going to rise up. Yep. So look forward to that horse girl fans. It's going to happen.
00:25:02
Speaker
ah

Industry Changes and Game Releases

00:25:03
Speaker
Back with Nintendo. Nintendo partnered with GameStop earlier this month to give out shiny Coridon and Miridon codes until October 15th. However, this whole giveaway was a fucking mess.
00:25:15
Speaker
ah Fans reported that their local stores had run out of codes in days leading up to the promotion. And then about halfway through the giveaway period, GameStop restocks the codes, but like it was very limited quantity per store.
00:25:31
Speaker
Like it was like reports of like 50 per store. It was not good. And then people were selling codes online because of course, you could have seen that coming.
00:25:45
Speaker
Yeah, so that that was a bit of ah a rough patch. And then also with Nintendo, Nintendo is suing a Reddit mod of a Switch pirating subreddit, which actually fair.
00:25:59
Speaker
ah In early October, Nintendo filed a motion against one James Archbox Williams. He is being sued for $4.5 million. dollars ah The filing claims that Williams sent thousands of messages on Reddit to other users, directing them to piracy websites, um at times offering technical support for issues fans might encounter while attempting to mod their switches.
00:26:23
Speaker
Williams reportedly asked for donations of Nintendo eShop gift cards in exchange for his services as well. Nintendo had sent him a cease and desist and it seems to be working out but then he broke it for what the report had a read um and so Nintendo the 4.5 million is just a rough number as well um but I'm just going to say this hey don't make like a subreddit of pirating video games and actually do it keep that shit like private as fuck if going to do it
00:26:59
Speaker
and Especially for current hardware shit. Yeah, there's there's putting putting it out there on Reddit of all places. You just asking for trouble. You know, you you see those like clips of really dumb criminals and it's like, you know what you're doing.
00:27:18
Speaker
Come on, man. Yeah, no, definitely. ah in retro game news, a new ToeJam & Earl is currently in the planning stages, according to its co-creator Greg Johnson, which is cool.
00:27:31
Speaker
I know a couple ToeJam & Earl fans. yeah ah So that's cool to see. In Borderlands news, the Borderlands 4 roadmap was revealed at PAX Australia. um Here's what we're getting getting in the months ahead. At the end of this month, from October 23rd to November 6th, there's going to free Halloween update.
00:27:50
Speaker
Then ah the first paid DLC in the Bouncy Pack, How Rush Saved Mercenary Day, will drop on November 20th. Then the free update adding what essentially is going to be Ultimate Vault Hunter 6.
00:28:03
Speaker
And a new raid boss, the Bloom Reaper the Invincible, will drop in December. And then the first big main DLC, ah Mad Ellie in the Vault of the Damned, ah plus the Vault Hunter Cash, will drop quarter one in 2026.
00:28:19
Speaker
um And then beyond that, they said there's going to two more bounty packs, one more big story pack, more raid bosses, and a couple more free updates along the way. Very exciting.
00:28:31
Speaker
ah i don't know if I'll play any of it because I did just recently Platinum Borderlands 4 myself. Actually, solid game. I think it is probably the second best Borderlands game behind 2. I still like 2 a lot more ah because I think 2 has...
00:28:51
Speaker
the best story of all the games. ah Gameplay wise, like as each game for Borderlands comes out, the gameplay just gets better. That's the one thing I will say that Gearbox was consistent with, with the Borderlands. It's just, they kept making the gameplay better.
00:29:08
Speaker
um But story wise, I mean, three took three, three took a tumble, three sequel. I never really played, so I can't judge. um But four was really solid for really solid game. Honestly, not bad.
00:29:22
Speaker
ah In Indiana Jones news, the Indiana Jones and the Great Circle game got a brand new new Game Plus mode for a free update. ah In VR news, a YouTuber has built his own VR headset for a little over $150 and has made the whole project open source.
00:29:43
Speaker
Creator CNC Dan made the homemade VR headset. It runs that 2880 by 1440 resolution and even allows the wearer to manually adjust the position of its you two 2.9 inch LCD screens.
00:29:57
Speaker
So if you want to do what he did, i don't know if it's like a whole video where he shows the process of making it. um But like 150 bucks for ah solid VR headset.
00:30:08
Speaker
I'm for that. I'm all for that. luck why Absolutely. I mean, the barrier to entry is is sort of what's holding back VR, right? It's not cheap space. So 150 bucks. If you can put it together yourself, you want to do a little project. Give it a try. If you don't like it, you're not out of mint, you know?
00:30:26
Speaker
Yeah, I have a VR. I have the PlayStation VR 2 headset. um It's good. I have the space for it. I just wish that they would put stop taking the VR games off of the PS Plus service and put a few more on there to play for free.
00:30:43
Speaker
ah ah In some development news, laid off developers of the canceled ZeniMax MMO project Blackbird have formed a brand new game studio um with no investors and complete creative control.
00:30:59
Speaker
They're calling it Sackbird Studios, which very funny. I see what they did there. Yeah. ah So looking forward to see what they come up with.
00:31:10
Speaker
ah And maybe it'll be a hit like Sandfall. Give us Expedition 33. Because all of them are ex-Ubisoft people. So...
00:31:22
Speaker
cool It will be interesting to see what they give us, and hopefully it's great. ah In Roblox news, oh boy, U.S. state of Kentucky has now filed a lawsuit against Roblox, which the Kentucky Attorney General Russell Coleman says has become a playground for predators who seek to harm our children, end quote.
00:31:43
Speaker
Roblox has denied the allegations telling outlets like PC gamer that it has taken an industry leading stance on age-based communication and rolled out more than a hundred safety features on the platform in 2025 alone.
00:31:56
Speaker
But it's still not enough. that And also um Chris Hansen gave an update and said Roblox is still unwilling to work with him to, for the, to catch a predator ship that he's doing Roblox.
00:32:09
Speaker
roblox Yeah, you know, you know that quote? and It was like, you'll live to see man-made horrors beyond your comprehension. This is one of them. This is one of those. Yeah.
00:32:24
Speaker
Yeah. In some delisting news, kind of delisting, it's just going to a different place. The original 1999 edition of System Shock 2 will be removed.
00:32:37
Speaker
is actually has been removed from sale on Steam. um ah Now, it's no longer you can no longer purchase the original System Shock 2. existing owners of the game will still be able to read, download, and play it from their library.
00:32:51
Speaker
The 1999 edition of System Shock 2 now will be given to all current and future owners of the 25th anniversary remastered edition now, which is, I think, 30 bucks.
00:33:03
Speaker
ah So you now get two games for the price of one, even though it's just the same game. Just one's the original, one's the remake. So you can still get it, but that's the only way to get it now.
00:33:18
Speaker
ah In Vampire Survivor news, they said that their next update will be adding four-player co-op. It will be launching most likely sometime in November as we're getting weekly previews.
00:33:31
Speaker
And we got the first one, and so we're getting four more. And with what players have said, like the pattern that they've done with this before is that usually after the fifth week, it's either like dropped instantly or just like a week after.
00:33:47
Speaker
So look forward to co-op and Vampire Survivors. That sounds like a lot of fun, actually. ah In some sad studio news, the Metal Hellsinger studio, The Outsiders, is closing as part of Funcom's post-Dune Awakening layoffs.
00:34:05
Speaker
Funcom announced the layoffs last week, just a few months after the biggest release in the company's history was Dune Awakening, and now they're still laying people off. Yikes. this one This one made me sad. and This one made me to read. Because Metal Hellsinger is great.
00:34:19
Speaker
it was It was such a love letter to everything in the metal community. was such a fun game. So punchy. It was doing really fun things. And so it goes.
00:34:31
Speaker
Maybe they'll make a new studio. and Hey, maybe. yeah i would i would I would enjoy that. ah In Tekken news, Miari Zoe's gameplay for Tekken 8 had dropped.
00:34:41
Speaker
She'll be releasing December 5th. And it looks like she's like got some for people who know the Tekken lore. Looks like she's got like some powers from Ogre of all things, which is interesting. So look forward to her dropping December 5th. This also people are theorizing that we're going to see the third game.
00:35:02
Speaker
The character pass revealed at the game awards potentially. um because she she's releasing before the Game Awards, so we don't know what's next for Tekken 8.
00:35:12
Speaker
So, very potential. We see, like we did last year with Clive getting announced at the Game Awards, we see a huge guest character coming to Tekken at the Game of Awards again this year.
00:35:26
Speaker
So maybe it'll be Tifa.
00:35:30
Speaker
um Speaking of the Game Awards and Summer Game Fest, Summer Game Fest 2026 has already announced its stream date. June 5th, 2026 will be kicking off the event.
00:35:42
Speaker
And they've also changed the venues as they will be at the Dolby Theater in Hollywood, which is the home of the Oscars since 2022. ah So big venue change for Summer Game Fest.
00:35:56
Speaker
Place your bets now on if anybody gets slapped for presenting a game shouldn't been announced yet. but You know what? That would be a great bit. I think that would that would be a great bit if they did do that.
00:36:09
Speaker
ah In Bungie news, Bungie is redoing one of their in-game economies, the Unstable Core.

Trading Card and Tabletop Updates

00:36:17
Speaker
So Unstable Core, for those who do not know, are how you infuse your gear, increasing its power level beyond the seasonal cap.
00:36:25
Speaker
The problem that this currency currently has ah is essentially the lack of cores of like, oh, you need a lot, a lot, a lot to really level up your gear past the cap.
00:36:38
Speaker
And you only get so little per dismantling each piece of gear. ah So, come the new Renegades expansion on December 2nd, they'll be redoing slash replacing slash getting rid of this currency.
00:36:51
Speaker
But for the time being, as a one-time reward, players can log on and collect a whopping 777,777 cores.
00:37:03
Speaker
and a a also there is a reduction to the infusion cost as well so To those of you who are still playing Destiny 2, like my Destiny Insider Jackson, ah hope this helps.
00:37:21
Speaker
ah In some Respawn news, 2K Games has poached Apex Legends producer Ben Brinkman from Respawn to head up the team at 31st Union, which is developing 2K's upcoming third-person roguelike extraction shooter, Project Ethos.
00:37:41
Speaker
So don't really know what that'll mean because I don't play much Apex. i eat Well, i never played Apex, but I know it's a shitter right now still. ah In some sad news...
00:37:54
Speaker
Dead or Alive and Ninja Gaiden director Tomunobu Itagaki has passed away at age 58. if the a It's hit the video game industry hard. Even Harada, lead developer of Tekken 8 and the Tekken series, ah left a really heartfelt tweet about his death.
00:38:15
Speaker
Yeah, this is ah this is a sad one because as far as it would appear, considering if, I don't know, if you've read Itagaki's last ah message on on social media.
00:38:26
Speaker
But apparently, whatever, but i'm not going to speculate on what did it mean, but apparently he had known its it was coming for a long time. Yeah. So, pour one out. Yeah, poor poor one out, guys, for this one.
00:38:40
Speaker
um And lastly, one last headline that I saw today, and it's unfortunate that it has to follow this. Capcom and McDonald's of Japan are releasing a line of street fighter themed burgers later this month called street burgers.
00:38:57
Speaker
It's part of an inspired promotion that it also includes ketchup and mustard inspired costumes for the cast of street fighter six new sandwiches based on Ryu, Ken and Chun-Li will roll out on McDonald's stores.
00:39:10
Speaker
October 22nd manmade horrors beyond your comprehension. Part two. Yeah, these are exclusive to Japan.
00:39:21
Speaker
So you've got ah you got the Ryu-inspired burnt garlic mayonnaise and egg teriyaki hamburger, the Chun-Li-inspired fried chicken with sweet and sour mayo sandwich, and the Torichi, a triple cheeseburger that for some reason is based on Ken.
00:39:39
Speaker
ah Because the cheese kind of looks like Ken's hair, I guess. let's Well, it's book it's a triple because he's American. Oh, i but yeah. That's that's why. ah There's also a McFizz and a McFloat made with carbonated apple juice and special french fry seasoning and a double cheese sausage McMuffin.
00:39:57
Speaker
That's what you can get if you go to McDonald's Japan. Get yourself a street burger. Yay. but Uh, it's some ongoing game news starting with Final Fantasy 14.
00:40:12
Speaker
Uh, patch 7.35 is out now. The Galatea attire has been added to the Mog Station. The All Saints Wake is on right now going until the November 4th. There is a new mount you can get by doing the event.
00:40:25
Speaker
Uh, and all the Halloween shenanigans that the quest will have you do. In Fortnite Epic Games news, Epic is suing Fortnite botters again, this time who filled their own maps with bots and made off with tens of thousands of dollars.
00:40:43
Speaker
ah So this is a part, a feature called the Fortnite Islands, which allows creators to make some money. The scam that two creators did was build some experiences, fill them with bots, and then sit back and profit.
00:40:56
Speaker
um That is what Epic is alleging in a new filing in Michigan against Idris Nadi and Aob Nacer, who says it created over 20,000 bots to play their own creations between December 2024 and February 2025. Epic says the maps created by the pair did have real players occasionally, but between 88 and 99% of the occasion of these maps were faked by bots.
00:41:23
Speaker
Just don't don't buy Fortnite is what we've learned. Epic. at Look, Epic is another one that you do not want to fuck with because their lawsuits. They go big and they fucking beat Apple.
00:41:35
Speaker
So, yeah, they will fuck you. Yeah. And they will. They will. They will not. They will not. This will not be quick and you will not enjoy it. You will not.
00:41:46
Speaker
um In the world of TCG news, starting with Pokemon, the Mega Evolutions Phantasmo Flames will be dropping November 14th. In Yu-Gi-Oh! TCG, the Chronicles deck followed in the Virtuous drops October 24th.
00:41:59
Speaker
The Legendary Deez decks drops November 7th and Fans of Revenge on December 3rd. Magic of the Gathering, Avatar The Last Airbender cards come out November 21st. In Lorcanna, Whispers of the Well, November 14th. And Winter Spell in Quarter 1, 2026.
00:42:16
Speaker
And in the Digimon TCG, Hacker Slumber, October 24th. And the starter deck, Amethyst Mandala, December yeah And in tabletop news, Cards Against Humanity released a new special edition called Cards Against Humanity Explains the Joke.
00:42:32
Speaker
This is a special version where each card explains why it's supposed to be funny. The reason they have done this is this makes the game an informational product rather than a game, meaning it is like exempt from the tariffs that Donald Trump put on.
00:42:50
Speaker
um Cards Kishimani made the announcement the following opening line. Trump is going to fuck Christmas. And then went on to say a bunch of other things ah explaining why they're doing this.
00:43:03
Speaker
And that's very funny. guys It's a very funny that you're going turn one of the raunchiest card games out there into an informational product just to avoid the tariffs.
00:43:15
Speaker
Very funny. It's a clever way to do it. Go go meta. Be meta outside and inside the game. It's brilliant. yeah Very brilliant.
00:43:26
Speaker
And that is all of the headlines ah in these last two weeks or a good chunk of them. Well, with that, then we're going to dive into what's what to look ahead for and what to look out for in these upcoming weeks.

I've been a fan of the ah game since Operation Genesis. the last two get The first one, pretty rough. Second one, vast improvement, still rough. Third one, they're really putting in a lot of neat features for us park building enthusiasts and also dinosaur nerds, which I'm both of. So it's looking pretty good.
00:47:08
Speaker
Awesome. ah Dispatch. This is the game that has ah Aaron Paul voicing your superhero dispatcher and has a bunch of other voice actors such as Moist Critical ah and a couple others uh obviously laura bailey and a couple other big names in there as well um the demo or like the first chapter has been out for a while but it's now the full game and the demo receives a lot of like rave reviews for good reason it was fantastic oh excellent
00:47:43
Speaker
it's I forget the name of the devs, but it's the same people who did Wolf Like Me and The um the ah the Walking Dead. Telltale. Telltale. Yeah. and One of the things that I really liked that they had said is that instead of doing long waits between because they're doing an episodic release.
00:47:58
Speaker
Yeah. I think they're doing much, much smaller gaps between their episodic releases. So. if you won't have to wait as long, if you want to do the whole thing in one sitting, or if you want to do episodes, you still don't have to wait as long in between, which sounds really nice.
00:48:13
Speaker
Yes. Uh, very exciting. looks really good. Um, I might get around to it. We will see. ah I guess the one of the ones I wasn't expecting to see here, angry video game nerd eight bits.
00:48:25
Speaker
I didn't realize that he was still making like that, that he was getting another video game. Cause he already has like two, I think. So, has a third one now.
00:48:37
Speaker
ah hey I mean, that's some longevity on the internet, you know? Yeah. um Double Dragon Revive. i do double drag i'm more excited for Double Dragon Dodgeball, though.
00:48:48
Speaker
ah because ity i yeah because again only if you pre-order the game you get it um and if you this is it's probably a thing that will become lost media if you don't save that game folks ah that's what I fear about double dragon dodgeball power watch simulator 2 this is a game I am very excited for i love power watch simulator 1 I love it so much I platinum to the game on um earlier this year I think um So very excited for Powerwatch Sim.
00:49:22
Speaker
um Jackbox Party Pack 11. This looks like one of the best Jackbox games in a while. Especially with how bad the Naughty Pack was.
00:49:36
Speaker
I'm very excited for Party Pack 11. Because it's all new games that they're introducing. No sequels of any of their current games. It's all brand new ones.
00:49:48
Speaker
And one of them is like trivia and and you're playing Dungeons and Dragons. oo Ooh. Yeah. There's a lot of cool ones in this pack. um So as we do every year in the game lounge, ah we'll be doing a game a game lounge Jackbox night.
00:50:05
Speaker
Oh, you'll have to let me know when that happens. I'm in. I will. I will. vaorful ah So we'll be doing that around the game's release um because that's always fun. ah You gave a reaction to chicken run egg extraction.
00:50:19
Speaker
Shout outs to my boy Wallace and Gromit. Shout outs to chicken run. Shout outs to claymation. I see you. Yeah. Hey, ah so their game's coming out soon.
00:50:30
Speaker
um Also, Once Upon a Katamari. This is the new Katamari game. Like, first actual brand new Katamari game ah since Katamari's been around. So, excited for that one.
00:50:43
Speaker
I just like saying the name of this one, Creepy Redneck Dinosaur Mansion 4. I just like saying the name of that one. Yeah, it was a good one. ah The game came out on Steam a while ago, and now it's making its way to mobile.
00:50:55
Speaker
So... Yay. Also, I will not, I cannot say it enough. Two Point Museum now coming onto the Switch is fantastic. This game is the best the series has to offer.
00:51:11
Speaker
Play Two Point Museums.
00:51:17
Speaker
uh also outer worlds 2 is out now out which is awesome another big release a lot of big releases uh this week um as we also have arc raiders the dragon quest mortal combat legacy collection um And the new Tales a game getting remastered as well.
00:51:37
Speaker
And with that, that wraps up all the games coming out in these next two weeks. some a lot of good ones. It's the fall season. um So here until November, we're going to see the last of the big games get dropped. And then December will finally slow things down until we reach about February again. That's how it usually goes when we reach this time of year.

Exploring Schizocore in Gaming

00:51:59
Speaker
ah With that, we're going to dive into our main focus. Here is what we are talking about this week in the Game Lounge. Conversations of past and future games, the state of the gaming industry, how big decisions affect gamers and anything else that's important to us.
00:52:16
Speaker
Here's what's going down this week in the Game Lounge. And to kick it off... I learned a new word very recently. Thanks to flavorful here.
00:52:28
Speaker
Schizocore. Yes, sir. If anything, I am a edutainment streamer. So I got what is Schizocore?
00:52:42
Speaker
It's sort of, there's a there's a nebulous definition, but the easiest way is you'll know it when you see it. So there's visual schizochore, which is I like to describe is everyone in my head is making a game together all the same time.
00:53:00
Speaker
There's literal schizochore in which games express some of the like um symptoms and side effects and things that happen to people who are dealing with schizophrenia. ah And then there are some games that are just sort of so out there and abstract that they kind of melty brain your brain.
00:53:21
Speaker
And they're commonly experiences that...
00:53:25
Speaker
they're they're commonly experiences that Make you question why anybody would bother, but they're very endearing all the same. oh Okay. i that i I don't know if that helped or not. It will start to make sense as we go through a couple games that i I think broadly could be described as schizocore and why they are so and in which way they could fit into each little bit of that nebulous definition.
00:53:55
Speaker
Because it's not like it's not like a racing game. A racing game can be a schizocore game. I would say schizo core games aren't a genre, more so a theme, like horror or oh romance or something.
00:54:06
Speaker
Yes. ah Okay, okay. How did you discover this genre? slide How were you introduced to this? So... Very early on, um ah for me, I would say that my like super earliest would be games like um ah what's like EYE Divine Cybermancy.
00:54:32
Speaker
um Garage Bad Dream Adventure off ah LSD for the PS1 games that had these weird esoteric nonsense almost fugue state like qualities to them.
00:54:51
Speaker
games that as you listed i only recognize off because that game recently came out and we talked about it a little bit on this podcast yeah it was coming out yeah ah well off the remake came out off has been around for oh it's a remake It's a remake. Yeah, you can still play the original on, I believe it's on itch.
00:55:13
Speaker
but You can find it anywhere. It was, um i think it was made in like 2008 or nine. It's old. Games like Yume Nikki or like Aonni.
00:55:23
Speaker
Like those old, weird um Japanese RPG maker games, a lot of those would go on to influence um a lot of what we see in like later schizocore games.
00:55:35
Speaker
Stuff that if you were a weird kid in the like late let's say like the mid the internet... And you're just going into weird places that you probably shouldn't have been before the Internet sort of got relegated to a few sites before it started to get more concise.
00:55:55
Speaker
um You'd stumble across, you know, but weird esoteric geosities pages talking about strange games imported from Japan or um fan projects, fan translation, stuff like that.
00:56:08
Speaker
um okay one of one of the what i would me i don't know if this is the earliest example of a game that i could define a schizochore but it's the earliest that came to my mind that really is a synced is a it's a website called worlds.com and if you're familiar with um like uh second life right worlds was worlds was second life before second life Worlds, you could do whatever.
00:56:42
Speaker
You make your own thing. And, of course, as this it lost favor, you know people moved away to newer and better things, technology progressed, it started to become this small, little, almost like a like a little piece of the dark web.
00:56:58
Speaker
And the, you know, little piece of the deep web, just a little esoteric, funsy, like when you stumble across an old blog spot that hasn't been updated since like 2004. Right.
00:57:10
Speaker
Right. Little niches everywhere. Now, it still exists to this day. It's barely inhabited. It's mostly empty. um It's very Web 1.0. it has actual cults operating inside of it.
00:57:22
Speaker
Oh, which of which, uh, one of the cult leaders inside, I, I wish I still had the VOD. Unfortunately, I lost it. Um, berated me, uh, randomly for the better part of an hour.
00:57:36
Speaker
It's hilarious. Um, and it looks most the time, like if you took really early new grounds, animations and kid picks, and then just slapped them together really hard, um,
00:57:50
Speaker
So that's you've got that's more of your visual schizochore going on, right? Okay. Yeah. You've got, you know, like anything you can think of.
00:58:01
Speaker
And it has ah it adds a little bit of both because it's everyone in my head is making a game at the same time.
00:58:09
Speaker
It's like, oh have you ever seen one of those YouTube videos where it's like um they try and make a dish, but everybody adds one ingredient and they don't know like who's adding what ingredient or what's been added before and they can't taste it?
00:58:20
Speaker
Yeah, yeah. i've seen I've seen that. I've seen that with ah not food per se, but I've seen like that. Let's make the jungle juice. Yes, and exactly. I've seen that. Yeah, that's exactly what it is.
00:58:33
Speaker
And that leads you into something like Cruelty Squad. Cruelty Squad, one of my favorite games of all time. If you have any... Look at the Steam page for Cruelty Squad.
00:58:46
Speaker
And if that... Just those little pictures there give you any sort of idea of what you're getting into. And that goes, oh, I have photosensitive epilepsy. Don't. Just don't. What?
00:59:00
Speaker
I'm looking at it. What? What? What? Is the king of virtual schizo core. So it's it's corpo fastest visual shit posting.
00:59:11
Speaker
You're assassinating people who can't die just to make them waste a couple hundred dollars in the respawner. And it has an in-game stock market that reacts to like who you kill at any given time.
00:59:23
Speaker
You can affect the like certain like the stock price of certain businesses, and you use that to buy upgrades, you can use your colon as a grappling hook and Spider-Man your way through maps at sonic speeds.
00:59:39
Speaker
And there's also fishing. Oh, okay, Lot. Yeah. Yeah.
00:59:45
Speaker
oh but but yeah You kill that fishing you. You at one point, the a the the big stamp of bureaucracy that runs the cruelty squad, which is the company you work for, just managed to um like file some paperwork wrong.
01:00:05
Speaker
And all of a sudden they come. The cruelty squad comes to kill you. And after you kill them and escape your apartment, which is made up of Lego blocks and, but you know, whatever,
01:00:17
Speaker
Your boss calls you up and goes, hey, about trying to murder you, that was a clerical error. So we're going to need you to come in and do some overtime. Thanks. ah Yeah.
01:00:31
Speaker
Yeah. It's a it's I love it so dearly. It's so. Angular as a feeling. if that That will make no sense to anyone but me.
01:00:44
Speaker
it's me It's made of hard edges and awful textures, and but it's it's a beautiful experience. This looks like a more insane vaporwave.
01:00:59
Speaker
Yes. Is that like a good way to describe it? It's it's a it's it's pushing that visual style to the absolute extreme. OK, like well, well above and beyond. It's over. It's overclocked visual stimuli.
01:01:16
Speaker
And it it's a beautiful game. But to bring it back just a little bit. Yeah. game Another game that I think would be a a lot more accessible and a game I think pretty much everybody listening will at least have knowledge of is a game called Hellblade.
01:01:32
Speaker
Sound of sacrifice. Oh, yes. Yeah. That is what but that is. Literal schizocore. Yeah. i know Yes. Because the the the voices in her head. had Yeah. Yeah.
01:01:43
Speaker
yeah And that, you know, off the sound design. Wonderful. Yeah, I've heard nothing but great things about the sound design of those games. is like Like some of the best the industry has seen. Yeah, it's ah it's a wonderful game. it's It goes on sale super frequently, so it's obviously worth picking up.
01:02:01
Speaker
um But that's sort of, that's like, you know, we as you can see, there are threads that sort of happen between these games so going into one that I've been playing recently, and I will absolutely recommend first chapter, it's like four hours is absolutely free. Chapter four just came out and every chapter is $4 is muffles is life sentence.
01:02:21
Speaker
Our main protagonist muffles, um has been, has awoken on a ah chain of, like a prison archipelago um with no fingers, no toes, no nipples. They make a point to tell you about that. No eyelids, no hair anywhere, no genitalia, obviously. oh And his mouth has been basically welded shut by stringy flesh bits. He also has no tongue.
01:02:45
Speaker
Muffles, in order to get out of this place, ah goes around murmuring at other prisoners.
01:02:57
Speaker
Some of them, being hostile, fight him. You fight them with an incredibly, incredibly in-depth but super simple to learn card combat system. And certain ones that you beat, you cut their faces off and then eat them.
01:03:15
Speaker
And then not only do they live in your head, like and your your your head actually has like a little apartment in there that they live in, but they also can, you can become them put by putting on their face and interact with other characters or do certain puzzles as those characters.
01:03:35
Speaker
And also each time you get one of those characters, you you get their specific cards, all of which have a different like type. like Some are more aggressive, some are more defensive, heals, blah, blah, whatever, whatever.
01:03:46
Speaker
The cast of characters is vast, and ah it's as the characters interact inside Muffleshead and outside Muffleshead, it just gets crazier and crazier. It's a dark comedy.
01:04:00
Speaker
Huh. Yes. So, and it's, and it's a beautiful, beautiful two-tone pixel game. Wonderful. The pixel art is amazing. And the soundtrack. oh, I'm not on.
01:04:12
Speaker
Huh. Yeah. i Now, again, apologies to like the audience listening. I like, I'm like, this is something that I am basically learning for the first time.
01:04:23
Speaker
And I guess you could this is so like, difference to like yes everything i know about the game industry yes this is very much an outsider art and i'm i hate using that term but i'm and i'm air quoting you can't see it but trust me i'm doing it kind of visual or like narrative style in games It's definitely like definitely risky.
01:04:53
Speaker
It's a risk-taking... Not only... like is' not it's it's taking it The devs are taking a risk by putting all this weird stuff out there. This is the kind of stuff that doesn't necessarily... You're not going to hit a wide margin of players. yeah i don't like no like It's it's i would it's a very much more yes very market what would you say is the most like aside from senua like what's the most uh like mainstream schizo game i would say the closest to that i would say would be spec ops the line and that's a ps3 xbox 360 game
01:05:32
Speaker
Yeah. And that leans much more on the um like the literal end. Yeah, than the figurative it has it It has some little bits here and there, and little bits here and there with it's the with like you know the little little jabs at the player making you second guess things.
01:05:52
Speaker
um But I mean, it's basically Heart of Darkness wrapped around a cover shooter. Yeah. Still pretty accessible for most people. And another great soundtrack, by the way. Almost every Schizocore game I've ever played has a wonderful soundtrack.
01:06:08
Speaker
Huh. yeah I mean, that's good to know. At least you're in for a good time a good time of listening to dudes. Oh, absolutely. Oh, um that but the one more really accessible one. um Disco Elysium.
01:06:20
Speaker
Oh, okay. There we go. That's actually... yeah Okay. Yeah. ah the Hotline in Miami. Oh, yeah. Yeah. Okay. Yeah. Stuff like that. Okay. Okay.
01:06:33
Speaker
that That, that, those, i guess those are those are very good starting points to get into this, uh, very sub theme of video, of video games.
01:06:45
Speaker
Oh, absolutely. Absolutely. Um, well most of these, most of these games that like, if I were to like just prattle on about certain ones, almost all of these are, um either cheap or free.
01:06:56
Speaker
Even most of these are made as like art projects.
01:07:01
Speaker
Just some guy's weird, you know, weird art project that they did for our schools. Yeah. Some, some dude was bored and he was like, I've got an idea. And he popped open RPG maker and went to town.
01:07:13
Speaker
Wow. Yeah. That's. but That's that. It's something of like, I'm glad to have learned this because i think.
01:07:27
Speaker
i this is like This is something I never would have known. This is so... It's so out there with a lot of this stuff that... like hotline Miami and like disco Elysium are probably the closest I would come to playing these games. Cause I see them. The main, I get mainstream helps with lot of things.
01:07:46
Speaker
um sure Aside from those, what what would be like your personal recommendations of like where to start for people who want to dip their toes in a little bit more. That's like not in the mainstream. Like where would you, what would you say are like some of the best recommendations to start with this? Well,
01:08:03
Speaker
So I would say, especially like um'm going in with um if you want the if you want the real like narrative schizochore, you want to be put in a position where your brain's going.
01:08:19
Speaker
What? Who are? Why? But though, because when happened, did thing said, but her. no you want that, um I would say ah there's a wonderful indie project that came out.
01:08:33
Speaker
um it my It was my personal game of the year last year. It's a thousand times resist. I know of that one because that's coming to Game Pass and I think PS Plus very soon.
01:08:45
Speaker
Well, that there is no excuse not to try it. It's an absolutely wonderful, wonderful narrative experience. um It touches on a lot of um like cultural and societal subjects and it's like subtext that do not apply to me at all.
01:09:03
Speaker
Not at all. They don't. you do None of that. My parents never forced me to learn the violin. Yeah. it's very trauma core centric. So if that's a thing that you might want to get into, very cool, but it also, it's also one of the weirdest sci-fi horror stories about you being everyone and everyone being you and also being selfish. And there's like a plague and it jumps timelines and it's,
01:09:32
Speaker
visually radical, um super, super, super, super cool game. Would recommend. um If you want to go a little weirder um and you're a big fan of the Source engine, EYE Divine Cybermancy was made in GoldSource by a ah French developer. They just came out with a new game ah called Diamond Blades, which is very rough.
01:09:56
Speaker
They worked on a lot of, they worked on like Warhammer Space Hulk. Okay. So if you're familiar with some of those games, they're Strumon Studios. The game was very poorly translated from French.
01:10:09
Speaker
And even in French, as far as I've heard from my friend one of my French friends, native speaker who has read some of it in French, he goes, I don't understand this shit either, dog. I i genuinely don't know what the fuck they're trying to say.
01:10:23
Speaker
It's got, it's memeable. If you've ever seen the like you gain bros off or my legs are okay memes, that's from EYE. Um, it's, you can, you can upgrade your legs, uh, to, uh, fly around maps so you can snipe stuff. If you try to hack a door, it will hack you the fuck back.
01:10:44
Speaker
Fry, potentially frying your cyber brain and leaving you locked in a perpetual hellscape of processing, uh, Bitcoin transactions. It's wonderful.
01:10:55
Speaker
Um, if you want something a little more modern that has like uh, like a slightly darker vibe. Indica, I N D I K A. Oh, i i do know of that one too.
01:11:10
Speaker
That was my second favorite game the year last year. You can tell my tastes are pretty, like pretty on the nose. um It's about a girl in a weird, like,
01:11:22
Speaker
post Russian civil war mega, potentially mega structure shanty town nunnery who gets, she's either schizophrenic or actually is here's the voice of the devil.
01:11:39
Speaker
She's excommunicated. She sent out, um, and you, it's like a sort of like narrative puzzle walking simulator, um, with, one of the craziest soundtracks ever.
01:11:52
Speaker
And it it has, ah it breaks the fourth wall constantly. And it has metanarrative stuff that just doesn't matter at all. Just because the devs thought it was cool.
01:12:03
Speaker
Okay, then. Yeah. But yeah, I'd say those are I'd say those are pretty. um Oh, if you if you like Schizocore, but you want to like also oh collect ah cute waifus and you're into rolling gotcha reverse 1999, maybe i i vaguely know of that one. I think I've heard that one by name.
01:12:28
Speaker
Yep, I got someone we both, I got a couple people we both know into that. ah Great character designs, fun card combat system, ah super easy to free to play. The story's really fun.
01:12:39
Speaker
it you can download it and try it. If you don't like it, you don't lose anything. So... Oh, cool. Well, that's very cool. Those are a lot of games that ah I should definitely check out when I do get the time.
01:12:53
Speaker
Some of the more mainstream ones are a little bit more by my personal speed. Yeah. ah and' looking at Because looking at some of those, not going to lie, i the the... What was it? Cruelty Squad?
01:13:10
Speaker
Yeah, Cruelty Squad. Man, that is... I don't think I could play that one personally just because I think I probably would. ah Oh, it it gave me motion sickness playing it. like and i'm And I don't have that problem. I have to stop every now and again. oh honorable Honorable mention to a game called Hilux.
01:13:30
Speaker
It's a claymation claymation RPG game. It's really weird. It's free on Steam. Check it out. It's beautiful. Oh, good to know. um Well, this was a very cool introduction into SchizoCore flavorful.
01:13:42
Speaker
ah Thank you for the topic recommendation. and he Thank you for teaching ah both myself and the listeners who may not know about this genre, subgenre, theme, whatever you want to call it. ah This overarching dome.
01:14:00
Speaker
ah One last question for you. what's What are some of the worst Schizo games that you have played? Ooh, that's a tough one because the, you're going in for the aesthetic.
01:14:13
Speaker
Um, but I would say for me, for me um probably like milk inside of a bag, inside of milk, inside of a bag, inside of milk, inside of a bag. Um, just really didn't resonate with me.
01:14:24
Speaker
Um, that's more so a, I just think that's, it's a very specific type of person's going like that game. Um, wouldn't say it's bad. You play as milk?
01:14:36
Speaker
No, you play as a girl. Oh, yeah. um ah Yeah. oh I would say maybe like i did I wasn't a big fan of funny pizza land.
01:14:49
Speaker
It's it's it's hard to it's hard to hate any of them. I mean, i can't say I've come across one that like didn't have something super, super, super endearing about it.
01:15:00
Speaker
um whether Whether it wasn't for me or not. It's one of those... it's and and if you If you maybe don't want to experience schizochore in like games, there's schizochore in films, especially like you know weird art house films.
01:15:15
Speaker
Yeah. Pinocchio. I feel like this is definitely a genre that in films like... which is like by so much It's so much easier to explain when you put a yeah movie in front of somebody.
01:15:26
Speaker
Like, if if I were to put Tetsuo, the Iron Man, in front of somebody and go, this is Schizocore, they'd go, oh, I got it. Right? Yeah. Yeah. No, definitely. I feel like with this with this but the medium of movies to describe this, it makes a lot more it would make a lot more sense. Absolutely.
01:15:45
Speaker
And I feel like, and it's not that it's lost in translation with video games, but it's just like when it comes to like film versus video games, I feel like establishing a theme in a movie is 10 times easier than a video game when it's like when you're going for very specific themes.
01:16:04
Speaker
Yeah. ah Well, with video games as a medium, obviously the one thing that separates it is the interactivity. Right. Yeah. And to make that really, really fucking weird shit interactive in a way that is engaging and fun and like encourages you to continue to play, to involve yourself in this absolute hellhole that whoever has created takes us takes it it's a lot harder of ah it's a massive barrier of entry for a lot of people which i get i totally get it it's not for everyone and but i'd say like at the very least try one of these weird games one of these times try one of the older ones like off or you know a garage bad dream adventure or um like the ps1 lsd uh dream emulator
01:16:57
Speaker
And just experience like something out of your comfort zone because you might end up you might end up liking it. You might end you might get the itch. Yeah. Or you could play Ballotro and set all your card themes to 1000x resist.
01:17:11
Speaker
Because that is one of the card themes in Ballotro. but They got a card theme for everything in that thing. They they do. Shoutouts to Ballotro. It's commercials. The Ballotro commercial with Bentstar is a little schizochore, I think.
01:17:25
Speaker
and Oh, ah speaking of, um ah good another great example of visual schizochore would be, do you remember those old adult swim bumps? Like, ah this house has people in it? Or unedited footage of a bear.
01:17:38
Speaker
or like too many cooks, even. Too many cooks. Or a lot of stuff that like um Tim and Eric were doing with like the like some of the like Cinco bits.
01:17:50
Speaker
Stuff like that. Yeah. Okay. You know that. act Yeah. Okay. That actually is a great fucking definition for it. Yeah. Absolutely. um Or in literature, House of Leaves.
01:18:02
Speaker
I don't read a lot of books, so you're not going to get me there. if you show If you show up on twitch.tv slash flavorful VT and I'm streaming, you want to talk schizocore, you want recommendations. I'll let you play.
01:18:15
Speaker
Excellent.
01:18:18
Speaker
Hey. Yeah, you. You've been gaming for six hours straight with no hydration station. You're starting to look like a ghoul from Fallout

The Appeal of Shovelware and Nostalgia

01:18:28
Speaker
4. Go drink some water.
01:18:30
Speaker
Yeah, that's it. That's the whole message. Drink water, you gremlin. Well, with that, I think that's a good place to move on to our second topic of the day, which... is garbage.
01:18:42
Speaker
well Well, it's enjoying the, now, first off, I want to just give a shout out to our Game Launch crew member who has a PhD, a doctorate in trash, actual trash PhD, my boy Zach, ah as I think he would love this topic as we're talking about the good garbage games that exist out there. Now, Flavorful, your for you, what defines a garbage game to like just a game that's bad?
01:19:10
Speaker
Ultimately, ah garbage game has that sense of humanity to it. That's... I'm just... I just made that shit up on the fly. That's not real. No, um I'm just fucking with you. ah ah garbage A good garbage game has... It does have something endearing about it. It shows that it...
01:19:30
Speaker
in whether Whether it's... the like It's got really shitty graphics, but the gameplay is fun and it sounds like shit, but it has this cool story. or it's you know There's something about it that's compelling. yeah right there's there is I know as I said I was fucking with you, but there is something like innately hum humane. There's some humanity to it.
01:19:50
Speaker
There's something that goes... There's something here. it's all it's like It's like when you see... like He's like, you see a kitten with like one eye and it's all scrungly and shit and it's like covered in barf and you're like, oh God, but it's, but I want to, I want to fix it.
01:20:06
Speaker
yeah Like, I love it. You know, like it's all, it's like, i don't want to touch it, but like, look at it. You know, it's like that. A bad game is bereft of redeeming qualities.
01:20:19
Speaker
it For some reason, it's it's and it's a ah lot easier to overdo a bad game. A lot of garbage games are very understated, right?
01:20:31
Speaker
A lot of bad games are very overstated. Games that... um Concord. Yeah. Right? yeah ah most of the Most of the drivel that Ubisoft has ever put out.
01:20:43
Speaker
Yeah. Right? um You know, stuff like that where it's this... It's soulless. it it did It doesn't have that humanity to it. it's It was made by ah corporate committee, right?
01:20:59
Speaker
and Yeah. And not saying, you know, obviously, the gaming industry is just that an industry. So they have to make money if they want to continue to make their products. There are investors. This has become a whole thing. Blah, blah. It's gone up and up.
01:21:11
Speaker
Yeah. But a lot of the games that... Especially, um you know, ah most people remember fondly as they get into gaming or games from when they were younger. Now, they might not be as good or as technically impressive or as made it as nearly as much impact or as much money or et etc e cetera, et cetera.
01:21:30
Speaker
But they had soul. I hate saying that. I hate saying that it's soul. That's what makes the difference between a bad game and a garbage game. But it is.
01:21:41
Speaker
It's another you know it when you see it. Yes. Absolutely. One of my favorite games, like I still remember to this day, it was a tie-in game for the movie Ants with a Z on the Game Boy Color.
01:21:58
Speaker
And it was by all metrics, Awful. Damn near unplayable. Damn near unplayable. Sounded like, I even remember as a kid, i I don't even remember if I got it for like a birthday or something like that, or if it was just like in a bargain bin somewhere.
01:22:15
Speaker
But i I remember as a child playing that and going, God damn, this sucks. I played that i play that shit for like ah probably a good hundred hours. Easy.
01:22:27
Speaker
I love it. Like, I was like, this is, I'd like, dude, this is terrible. had my, bring my, you know, link cable Pokemon with your friends and generation one, generation two, be like, they're like looking through each other's, you know, games. It's like It's like, she dude, try it. It's this shit.
01:22:41
Speaker
And everybody'd be like, oh, it's awful. And then we just keep playing it. That's all we'd play is ants. um Like there's, i think that I think that's sort of the best way I can describe it. it There has to be something that makes you care.
01:22:59
Speaker
if it If there's something in that game that makes you care about it, it it could be it it could be a miserable failure in all aspects. Yeah. But, like, you know, but it's the old saying, one man's trash is another man's treasure. Yeah, exactly. It's where, like...
01:23:17
Speaker
more is a a part part part of it might be nostalgia part of it might be just just like just just having that different taste in games than everybody else yeah absolutely okay okay um where would you classify shovelware shovelware is a state of mind but so So I actually, when I was, um when you posited me beforehand, I read the notes with this question. I actually had to sit and think about that. And i I kind of put shovelware into three categories, at least as far as I can create categories, because humans love to compartmentalize things in order to explain them, right? Oh, you should see how many Excel spreadsheets I have on my computer organizing every single bit of my computer.
01:24:12
Speaker
know If you can see the ridiculous cyberpunk dystopia that is ever like all of the tagging, categorizing, and rating of every manga that I've ever read in my entire life is, it's a whole blockchain.
01:24:30
Speaker
Oh. Yeah. So what i I said there's three categories. I said there's three categories of shovelware. There's games that are cheaply made, quickly rushed,
01:24:43
Speaker
but good and fun. ah For me, I'd say an example of that would be, and follow me here, I'm going to say the title of the game, 420 Blaze It 2, Game of the Year, Dank Dreams and Goated Memes, Hashtag Wow Out of 11, Like and Subscribe, Poggers with a Z edition.
01:25:00
Speaker
Is that the game where it's a first-person shooter when you shoot the guy, everything just kind of pops off and it goes absolutely nuts bonkers? Yeah, it's got 420 and 360 no-scope. Yes, I remember. i Believe it or not, I know that game well.
01:25:15
Speaker
yeah Not because I played it, but because I remember... i can't even remember which YouTuber played it. I remember watching them play through it, and it was absolutely hilarious. And then, you've of course, you've got Shovelware by Bad, which are just...
01:25:29
Speaker
you know, like the, like the kind of old trash mobile games that were like, you know, rip offs of, you know, cheap, cheap knockoffs, a flappy bird stuff. You know, it's like, yeah, it's the, you didn't do, there's nothing here to enthuse me. There's nothing here. That's fun about it. It's just like,
01:25:45
Speaker
You know, you slap some unity. at all as a horror game fan, next fest next fests are the bane of my fucking existence because there is so much unity store asset flip fucking spooky jumpscare bullshit horror games with flashlights that have to you have to change the batteries every three seconds and like a fucking like a Barney the dinosaur chasing you stop. Okay.
01:26:10
Speaker
Stop doing it. I know at least one person who's making a game like that is going to listen to me. Don't. you're It's not going to happen. dog up Take this advice, horror game, the future horror game developers.
01:26:26
Speaker
Stop it. Get some help, man. And then there's some games that are sort of like they're shovelware, but they feel like a certain niche. And those are just cheap, quickly made games.
01:26:37
Speaker
But they they're like for specific like those ah coloring book games or like the Sudokus or find the hidden 100 hidden cats and insert place here. ah Yeah, ah those are those hidden cat games, oddly enough, I think maybe like the top of this category. Absolutely. Oh, no, I've played almost every one of them on Steam.
01:26:58
Speaker
I like red played an arcade full of cats, and that's a bit about my experience. those are all there's so many Some of them are like a little more expensive. They get like $4. Ooh, big spender. Flavorful here.
01:27:10
Speaker
oh You can't see it. I'm popping my collar. They're good. They got like little puzzles and shit in them. They're awesome. yeah though they're actually they're pretty they're They're solid. like For like either being free to up to pretty solid.
01:27:25
Speaker
yeah like it spend body impressive Yeah, you can spend a couple hours when you got nothing better to do. Put a YouTube video on in the background, go to town. Yeah. No, absolutely. Okay. that's Those are actually, I really like those classifications for shovelware a lot.
01:27:42
Speaker
uh, it's actually very, it's kind of, it's kind of nice to kind of have that classification for it because it's better than just lumping everything like that is just shovelware. It's like, no, there's good. There's, there are the gems in there.
01:27:57
Speaker
You just got to sift it. Yeah. Yeah. It's, it's like, it's like with anything you got to, you know, you got to curate your experiences. Yeah. And like there's, you know, there's,
01:28:10
Speaker
gonna be like especially if you go back to the retro days oh yeah absolutely like if you're a retro fan you already know you heard shovelware you're like i'm here i'm for it Yeah.
01:28:23
Speaker
Oh, yeah. No, trust me. i like I was recently at a game show for like in my city. And big bit like like I'm a GameCube collector, so I've been collecting GameCube games.
01:28:37
Speaker
ah There were two games i'm like that were on my list. I just want to collect them all. So it's like, I'll eventually get them all. They're a pool paradise. Just a game of pool on the GameCube.
01:28:50
Speaker
That's it. And then the other one that I grabbed, I think it was another bowling game. And I'm like, oh, yeah, it's just just GameCube bowling.
01:29:00
Speaker
no What the greatest shovelware game of all time. And I know some people are going to be like, what's he talking about? Wii Sports. i is that shovelware though? like It was literally, it was literally free.
01:29:16
Speaker
It's nice to be true. Many game collections are notoriously shovelware. Oh, yeah. Okay. Would you, what about Wii sports resort?
01:29:29
Speaker
i don't I don't know. i just i I never played any of them. I just know Wii Sports. I never... I was never... like I had a i had a like the handhelds for Nintendo I'd ever touched. You ever got the full home console? Yeah, I had a buddy who had an N64 and a GameCube, so I played like ah you some things in that era, but I was... After, like...
01:29:49
Speaker
I got an Xbox 360, played some Forza on it, and then switched right into PC gaming, right? Like, around there. Oh, okay. So it it wasn't much of a... cut You weren't much of a console gamer. No. or In the console prime, I guess. Yeah. Well, like, I i had a PS1 and an Xbox.
01:30:07
Speaker
Okay. And then... Oh, and a PS2. because dv Because DVD player. Cool. Yeah. um that was the eat Dude, that was such a smart idea. You could con your parents into getting a PS2. You're like, bro, Silent Hill 2, Metal Gear Solid, dude. Like, what?
01:30:23
Speaker
PS2 part of, I would say, the greatest gaming era. That, because je gen what it a lot of games with the GameCube, too. so Yeah, yeah. Gen 6 was a beautiful time.
01:30:35
Speaker
It was. Gen 5 and Gen 6. After Gen 6, it felt like it kind of stopped. Gen 7 has its parts, its has it stuff Gen, onward from that, it's like, that's I mean, it's where you get into a little bit of like modern gaming.
01:30:51
Speaker
yeah well i think I think just as an aside, um one of the things that is nice about this era of gaming is that because it's we have like you know the mass proliferation of like tools to make games and the internet and like niche communities for everything and also hyper-accessible communities for everything at the same time, there is so much weird and intuitive and and and creative and ingenuitive stuff that's coming out.

Modern Gaming Economics

01:31:21
Speaker
The only problem is it's like you said earlier, you kind of got to sift through the shit to find a diamond. Yeah. Yeah. Yep. No, you absolutely do. It is, is it's, it's, it's, we live in an era where you got, if you don't do the research yourself and do that all, you're kind of just stuck with going for what's,
01:31:48
Speaker
the what's getting the most advertisements like you where what has the marketing budgets and the lowest common denominator yeah for the most part now everyone's awesome gem does just kind of follow like there are there are good ones out there like just it's not like it's not like gaming is bad it's just that gaming is a bit expensive right now yeah uh is just kind of how the way the world has gone to get us to this point yep
01:32:14
Speaker
once they started adding extra a's to the game budget yeah people fucking quadruple a skull and bones it's free on playstation plus now yeah yeah and it's like it's like you can like all most of my favorite games um personally are games that i would like if i were to rate them as objectively as possible out of 10 i'd give them like a 6.6 to 7 and half
01:32:40
Speaker
And that's not on like a IGN scale or yeah. i good god fuck Yeah. Yeah. The IGN scale is, hasn't been, has, has never, never worked. We're like five is like, this is a perfectly serviceable game.
01:32:53
Speaker
i liked half of it. Didn't like half of it. Right. Yeah. That kind of thing. Most of time, it's like, yeah, it's like this is it's got it's rough around the edges. You know, I didn't like the story. It was kind of, a but like, it fucking like, I love that shit. That's a good, that's a good old, that was a fun experience. I felt that my money was well spent.
01:33:12
Speaker
Yeah. Or my, or my bandwidth was well spent. Because, as Lord only knows, some of these games now, 95 gigabytes for something that takes like four hours to clear. It's, it's getting kind of silly.
01:33:24
Speaker
Yeah, no, definitely. When it comes to games, I like using the dollar to hour ratio. Yes. Where it's like every hour you spend in game is a dollar. ah I've well paid for my subscription for Final Fantasy 14 for all the hours I have compared to what I've paid for subs.
01:33:42
Speaker
Yeah. Well, that's me. That's me with reverse 1999. Like I was like, I'll never play a gotcha game. And then I stumbled on it and I just fell so in love with the weird misery porn schizo court story and really off the wall character designs. I just said, wella this is it.
01:33:58
Speaker
It's like Limbus company guys. Limbus, all the Limbus company guys. They, they love that shit. Same thing. Out of curiosity, since it is a gotcha game, how much have you spent on reverse 99? Oh, i've been Okay, so I'll say I've been playing um pretty much every day ah for anywhere between, you know, like if it's if I've already completed the the nearest event lately, we're still waiting on the new event, which will be like a week.
01:34:23
Speaker
I'll play for, you know, like 15 minutes. um Sometimes I'll play for, like when I was starting up until like maybe a couple months ago, I was playing ah good like hour or two a day without repeating content.
01:34:35
Speaker
yeah um i And then, so in that time, I i don't know, that's a... Well, I can look it up on Steam. Hold on. I can tell you how many hours I've played. ah So I'm at ah just under 300 hours. Oh, wow. Yeah. um And I've probably spent...
01:34:51
Speaker
Like a hundred bucks, 150 bucks. No, 150 bucks. Cause I, cause I ended up buying a, ended up buying a skin for my wife. who and That's not too bad then. That's like 50, 50 cents an hour. Yeah.
01:35:03
Speaker
It's super, it's super free to play. Like you, you don't need, you don't need to spend any money to clear content and they're stupid, generous with ah giving you pulls. That's good, at least. man i'm I'm never as that great when that comes when it comes to gotchas. like i like It's why try to actively avoid gotchas.
01:35:24
Speaker
Yeah, you you don't you don't you don't gamble, do you? I don't. I've gambled once in Las Vegas. I did a poker tournament and lost pretty early. And I did like 20 bucks in a slot machine because it's like, fuck it. yeah I'm old enough to do this now. Let's just...
01:35:42
Speaker
See what it gets me. See, I'm a Vegas boy. I grew up there. So ah I saw it all the time. And that's and I'm like, I'm not doing that.
01:35:53
Speaker
And then here I am. Here it is. All for the waifu. Yeah, got to do it for the waifus.

Appreciating Drakengard and Creative Garbage Games

01:36:00
Speaker
gotta do it for the white no that's i feel that um going into favorites and and whatnot what are some of your favorite garbage games that you have played this aside from ants because you've already brought up yeah so remember where i told told you about draken guard earlier yeah you did draken guard is yoko taro joint on the ps2
01:36:25
Speaker
Wait, it was... Oh, it's Yoko Taro? Oh! Yeah! You want to talk about some hot garbage? Let's talk about Yoko motherfucking Taro. Shout out to Yoko Taro. I hope he likes that.
01:36:36
Speaker
He's a real one. It plays like early Dynasty Warriors, but worse. Oh. Visually, it's pretty shit.
01:36:47
Speaker
It's a very... It's an early, early PS2 game. They hadn't quite roughed out what was even happening. Like, in the development cycle was all over the place. Like I said, the soundtrack... get it If you ever get a chance, go listen to some of the... Just scroll through the Drakengard soundtrack.
01:37:05
Speaker
Because if you if you want to hear...
01:37:09
Speaker
If you want to hear a car exhaust fucking industrial size blender oh oh and like repeat itself over and over and just change anything you know about like, cause I am like, like i like I'm a musician.
01:37:25
Speaker
It don't make no sense. I ain't even going to get into it. It doesn't make any sense. Don't ask questions. Just, just stay on Yoko Taro, Mr. Taro's wild ride. Everybody has fun with it.
01:37:36
Speaker
The main character, Kaim, my favorite dude of all time, shared with the batter because they're basically the same dude. All he wants to do is save the kingdom. And then it turns out he goes about a little ways through. He goes, actually I kind of just love genocide.
01:37:52
Speaker
Like just I'm just murders kind of dope. I'm just kind of into it. I don't have any other personality than that. Other than I really, really, really love my dragon wife, who was a literal dragon, not like a dragon woman.
01:38:05
Speaker
Just a literal dragon. They fuck. Them fuck. There's like eight endings. they They cause the end of the world. A giant baby comes down. There's that leads into multiple timelines that goes into fucking near.
01:38:18
Speaker
Yeah, I've just I'm reading a Reddit post. I'm like, just thinking to myself, what do you mean it's? It's yeah. Yeah. Near and near a Tom, but there's, there's like eight or nine different timelines. Oh, that's not counting the radio plays, the stage plays, the manga, the light novels, um, crossover with Final Fantasy 14, uh, art books.
01:38:41
Speaker
Um, like you sometimes Yoko Taro, like he's on the shitter and he tops out some lore on a Twitter post. Like, it's i mean yoko taro at this point is just an enigma he's the boy he's our boy he also they also uh fun fact they post a sakurai masahiro sakurai uh posted a picture he was at dinner with a bunch of other devs including uh yoko taro was there also toby fox and uh a couple other like legends on the devil may cry dev
01:39:14
Speaker
ah and a couple others it's a fucking based photo yeah but it's just like i it's Yoko fucking Taro man I want to be Yoko Taro when I grow up I want to know i want his brain to be studied like if we could study that man's brain somehow it's so well it's so simple Because he's the bridge between hot garbage and schizo core. Do you see how this all comes full circle?
01:39:42
Speaker
He's the bridge! bridge! He's what holds all the timelines together. The second Yoko Taro dies, the universe just collapses. ah ah I hope. I don't want to live in a world without that man.
01:39:54
Speaker
I'll make it happen myself, dude. I'll, but i you know, I'll assume the condition. God damn. Like, i love I love that quote. Like somebody had asked him, ah like for some magazine, I don't remember where or when. And they were like, why do you put like skin flu skimpy clad girls with like big boobs and big butts in your game? He's like, cause i like <unk> like because I like hot chicks. What kind of stupid question is that?
01:40:17
Speaker
It's like, I like pretty woman. Duh. I'm like, yes, dude. Doesn't need more explanation. I like hot chicks. Great. Awesome. Let's get on to the next one. Yoko Taro developing a story paragraphs long of just like the intricacies of how everything is tied together.
01:40:32
Speaker
Yoko Taro on his character designs. Bunky brain, hot women, nice. Hot women. Yeah. Yeah, of course. And then like Drakengard 3, it's like, what if all of this weird, almost like Gnostic levels of intricacy bullshit,
01:40:47
Speaker
And then all of the different personality traits of the main of zero are just horny all the time. Cause that would be, that's funny. And poop jokes.
01:40:59
Speaker
What? Yeah. so So if you go into the lore of tracking guard three, theyre flower end of the world rebirth thingy mechanic people that save timelines to keep though all the timelines from going away because angels decided at some point that humanity sucked okay Okay, here's the thing, though. the Angels deciding humanity sucks is a very oddly and oddly... It's a reasonable... Reasonable story plot key thing. It's been done a couple times, so i like, that's the most reasonable thing I've heard far. However...
01:41:40
Speaker
However... Angels also...
01:41:44
Speaker
ah angels also stuck in other timeline to save. I don't know. I don't know. I've gone all cross-eyed, but that I just, Oh, it's, Oh, it's, Oh, it's wonderful. Everything. Yoko, Yoko Taro stuff.
01:42:02
Speaker
Right. Um, like, Perfect. Perfect, man. um you Obviously, having worked with like Platinum for Automata, that game is significantly more polished than Drakengard and Drakengard 3.
01:42:19
Speaker
What about Drakengard 2? Drakengard 2 is effectively a side story. It's not part of the main timeline that we've seen. It's it's it's a alternate timeline that sort of dead ends but cam is in it and he's he really loves genocide in that one ah oh yeah he's he you thought he loved that shit in track the end of tracking one of the endings of tracking hard one there's like a b c d e i think there's like yeah i think there's like five um but yeah he really loves that and also it's just a horrible experience to play
01:42:55
Speaker
it's Because you have to you have to collect all the weapons to get the true ending. Oh. And you have to go through multiple endings to collect all the weapons to get the true ending. So you're sitting there hacking and slashing one button hitting square over and over on these flat plane battlefields with bum-bump, bum-bump, bum-bump, bum-bump.
01:43:13
Speaker
um but bum but Over and over and over and over and over and over and over. Where Drakengard 1 is garbage, Drakengard 2 is bad. Drakengard 2 is a fine game.
01:43:24
Speaker
It's a more traditional RPG. It's fine. It's cool. It's neat. If you're a Drakengard fan, absolutely play it. um It's a little harder to find than the other game. Well, Drakengard 1 is hard to find, too.
01:43:35
Speaker
PS2 games are getting harder, but we know. I'm not going to say, you know, how to do it, but you know how to emulator don't let nintendo hear you cough that i mean to be fair we're talking about playstation stuff so i think we could we could drop it fine and nintendo wouldn't that's true um yeah so and then another one uh that i would say is like my uh up in there and my favorites is a game called booze masters freezing moonshine so which That sounds like a beer making sim.
01:44:09
Speaker
it it Well,
01:44:12
Speaker
yeah sort of. It was on Steam. It came out um last year the year before. I don't remember. um It's the epitome of Eurojank.
01:44:25
Speaker
it's it's It's up there with like my summer car levels of Eurojank and like Stalker. And I love me some Eurojank. Ooh, o buddy, Eurojank, a fun boy. You go youre you go to this place that's a like you your car ends up in a snowstorm at this motel.
01:44:45
Speaker
There's people at the motel, but the guy who runs the motel is an abominable snowman. like a literal literal snowman. And um you've got a, a chick who's like an influencer who's there. Like that's your main character.
01:45:00
Speaker
um She's like ah trying to like re revive her YouTube career by um going to like haunted places. um And then there's these two scientists who are trying to make like the perfect beer, like the coldest beer.
01:45:18
Speaker
And it's a it's an ultra janky, like dumb comedy, like irreverent, like it'll change tone. Like conversations will go one direction for half a sentence and then stop and go a completely different direction.
01:45:34
Speaker
hu It's it's. everything that you love in a Eurojanky shovelware game. yeah It's so much fun. I played it. I've played it like three times on stream.
01:45:44
Speaker
I like to play it like every couple months. um I'll probably play it around Christmas time just because for the winter vibes. Yeah. like But like you can't help but laugh like some of the decision making process that went into like even like, you know, like in cut scenes, like the shot design, right?
01:46:01
Speaker
Like sometimes the camera just focuses on like random crap. You're like, why did they do that? Like, the camera was just sitting there, and, like, somebody had to, like, pick, hey, let's move the camera over to look at, like, the wall.
01:46:13
Speaker
don't know. Why not? Was it important? No. Was it on purpose? Maybe. Okay. Yeah. Good to know. I'm looking at their...
01:46:25
Speaker
they ah They have fun fun facts. i'm looking at their Steam. They have a bundle yeah called the yeah the the butted booze bundle.
01:46:36
Speaker
You can get that game and bakery simulator. Yeah. Yeah.
01:46:42
Speaker
It's like if you want like a refined garbage game, my summer car. If you're if you're into especially if you're into like more simulation kind of stuff,
01:46:54
Speaker
you're a you're You're Finland. You're a guy. You're in Finland. You make a car. it's similar Yeah, you're in Finland. It's Eurojank as hell. you You put the car together piece by piece yourself.
01:47:07
Speaker
You ah have to go to the store. You drink beer. You go to the sauna. You know, you sometimes you try to go as fast as you can around on the highway and get head on by a dude in a in a totally not Ford Mustang.
01:47:24
Speaker
It's great. It's wonderful. Yeah. um Okay, then. Yeah. ah Well, ah with that, I mean, me personally, for like a favorite garbage game, I'm trying to think what I've played.
01:47:38
Speaker
um let me get I'm going to guess. going to hazard a guess. Okay, hold on. I know what it is. It's Harvester. What? You don't know Harvester? I don't. Oh, old silly horror point and click.
01:47:52
Speaker
It's very fun. I never played a lot of horror. I still don't play a lot of horror. So um just threw you one out there. I don't know. Maybe. ah oh oh i know what it is. ah that That Shrek party game.
01:48:07
Speaker
Mm hmm. I know exactly which one you're talking about. i had a homie who had that. Yeah. Yeah. yeah that's That's probably a good garbage. Hell yeah. Funny as fuck. Not good at all.
01:48:18
Speaker
Garbage. but that that's that's a good one that's that's that's what that's my answer absolutely uh all right well with that flavorful is there anything else you would like to add about either two topics before we get on into the bonus level not so much about the uh the garbage versus uh you know just bad games debate but um i would really sincerely like to encourage people to try out some schizo core games if you can find one that sort of peaks your fancy like i said they're either incredibly cheap
01:48:50
Speaker
um or free um most of them are like short concise experiences even the ones that we talked about today they're a little more in depth like they are really worth giving a shot to so um i know it's hard to step out of your comfort zone especially when there's money on the line right and i know things are tight for everybody buying games is a luxury but if if for For nothing else to say that you did and you experienced something that you would never even think existed.
01:49:21
Speaker
Give it a go. Absolutely. No, those are great words to end that on. ah With that, it's time for us to now close things out and have some fun at the bonus level. Crazy lists, great deals, and recapping gaming history. It's all here in the bonus level.
01:49:37
Speaker
And to kick off the bonus level, we got Game Clash, which is a little entry tournament of specific games. themes and when it came to this week's game clash I was trying to rack my brain around what could we do and I Well, I mean, it ties it down to the last news story of the day with McDonald's Japan. i went, well, what were the Happy Meal toy sets that were based on video game characters or just video games in general? So, Flavorful, I have grabbed eight video game collaborations through Happy Meals.
01:50:12
Speaker
And you're going to, through a tournament bracket style, you're going determine the winner. Are you ready? I am ready. All right. For match one, we've got the 1994 Sonic the Hedgehog 3 versus the 2013 Skylanders.
01:50:25
Speaker
Ooh. Ooh. Ooh. Okay. um I'm going to give you my like reasoning real quick, and then I'll i'll make my decision. So yeah what I'm looking at is 94 Sonic the Hedgehog, ultra popular. Probably peak Sonic popularity around 94. Yeah, Sonic 3.
01:50:39
Speaker
And Knuckles. Yeah. And Knuckles. Don't forget Knuckles. Don't put don't disrespect a man's name. um like sonic he doesn't chuckle yeah he's also was he an echidna i don't know i know yes i just i never played this on a sonic game i just like i have a i have a decently so i i i'm a fan of sonic i'm a fan of knuckles because that ugandan knuckles meme so that's sort of like that's like you're you do not because you do not have a border um
01:51:10
Speaker
So that's, oh man, that's that's like extra points there. But 2013 Skylanders, now if the Skylanders toys work with the Skylanders game, I do remember like friends like ah like nieces and nephews and stuff were super into Skylanders. That was a big thing for a little bit. I don't know if it still is, but... It's not. Skylanders has gone the way of the wind.
01:51:34
Speaker
Shame. Well, more for the landfill. I've got to I've got to go 94 Sonic. It's there. I mean, just the that's that's prime Sonic and Sonic is still around and Skylanders ain't.
01:51:47
Speaker
All right. That's you. We got the 2011 Pokemon black and white versus the 2018 Yo-Kai watch. Hmm. Well, as we talked about earlier, I don't know ah fucking thing about Yo-Kai Watch.
01:52:02
Speaker
Like, I've seen it in passing every once in a while. um And I know it's crazy still crazy popular in Japan, um but it just never, you know, never penetrated the market here.
01:52:13
Speaker
Pokemon Black and White? i is um Pokemon's still a juggernaut, but...
01:52:23
Speaker
who's who's like black with black and white that was but that was gen five okay yeah huh i don't really know anything about you know wait what what gen what gen did they introduce volcarona that's gen five there we go but that's my answer pokemon black and white volcarona is my favorite pokemon ah Fair, fair. Valid favorite Pokemon as well. That's a great Pokemon.
01:52:48
Speaker
Yeah. ah Match three. We've got the 2014 Mario Kart 8 set. Mario Kart 8, not 8 Deluxe. Sonic Handheld. Now, eight versus two thousand three sonic handheld know I'm going quickly chime in here. The Sonic handheld toys.
01:53:05
Speaker
I, I actually owned like two or three of those growing up because then you went the McDonald's around that time. I feel like I vaguely remember those. They were just like little, those little cheap, like one bit games. They like yeah maybe two buttons, something like that. Yes.
01:53:20
Speaker
I vaguely remember those. so um, I'm going to go, and this is probably going to be a controversial opinion here, but I will explain my reasoning. I'm going to go with the Mario Kart 8 toys okay for this one.
01:53:33
Speaker
The reason is because those stupid two-second, one-game, one-bit Sonic toys and others like its ilk are just terrible e-waste.
01:53:45
Speaker
We got to stop doing that. Yeah, this is like, oh, can you just the just so wasteful. All right. Match for 2023's Crash Team Rumble versus 2004.
01:53:59
Speaker
Just Sega toys. Oh, OK. So on one hand, I am a ah I am a deeply addicted Yakuza nerd. um ah Yes! i've I have played almost every one. Which ones have you which whats they not played? I haven't played the ones on PSP.
01:54:18
Speaker
I haven't played yeah the the Black Panther games. play MMO because... i didn't play the um the mmo because because you can't I haven't played um uh Dead Souls but I've i'm I'm going to very soon oh nice and I haven't played Kenzan because I'm gay on okay so we yeah we we basically haven't played the same game but you're gonna have the edge with Dead Souls yeah good luck because I hear it runs like shit on the PS3.
01:54:47
Speaker
ah Well, my PS3 renders things at 4K and I've got a very normal PS3. You know what I'm saying? Just the one that accepts mouse and keyboard input. and you know i think that'll make it I think that might make it better. So have have fun. i i'm I'm still hoping that they announce somehow that they're going to remake it yeah which would be funny i would love i would love to see it i mean they may as well like yeah they've got the engine they've got the assets all right okay so what are your thoughts okay off topic i know but like i i yurning out about yakuza is one of my favorite things to do oh oh absolutely what are your thoughts on kwami 3
01:55:29
Speaker
I'm torn. I'll be honest. I'm torn. And on one hand, it's going to be it's more money for the franchise. I love the franchise. It's good the changes that I've seen. Some of them ah I'm OK with.
01:55:41
Speaker
Some of them I'm not. Retconning some stuff to try and like smooth out loose ends. I'm not a huge fan of. I wasn't a huge fan of three movies.
01:55:53
Speaker
ah like the first time I played it, i came around to Yeah. i yeah like I like three story. I don't, I did not like its gameplay because absolutely if you're playing them in order of like what's currently available, yeah that jump from Kiwami two to three is very rough.
01:56:11
Speaker
ah 4 and 5's combat I find were a lot better than 3's overall because 3 is like of all the games is the oldest on there and I I so long ago like I feel like they should have just done a Kiwabi 3 sooner yeah and it would have I think it would have been but The sooner we had this, the better.
01:56:30
Speaker
it Yeah, and i like i like that they're adding like the um you know dark ties thing. I think that's going to be the big, big thing. now yeah Yeah, so it's like... I... Tentatively, yes, but I felt a little burned by pirate yakuza the the because i've wanted a solo majima game since i played the first yakuza game though no it was um zero yeah since i since i played zero i played zero like at a friend's house right as it came out so i'm not a secondary i played i played yakuza one yakuza two on the playstation 2 i'm not a fucking secondary okay oh wow
01:57:13
Speaker
Like I was old school, but I've always wanted a Majima game, um especially because I just really vibe with Majima's like story. It's it's one of the better origin stories in the series. Yeah. um And then the pirate thing. And I was like, oh, I love pirate ship combat. And then they made it boring. And then you had to it was a babysitting game. You had to drag some stupid kid and his cat around and.
01:57:38
Speaker
just didn't it i i mean i got my fill of it but like i felt like they could have done so much better so no that's it's that's fair i like the game for what it is like it's just wacky wahoo pirate yeah but i i hope that the next time they give majibo an outing it's a little more yes no i i agreed i i hope that like if when they do because i feel like it's a when not an if when majima does get his own game again it'll be a good a grand like what majima is yeah i want i'm really excited for that other game rgg is making the one that said reconstruction japan post-world war ii
01:58:21
Speaker
Something heaven. i but I can't remember the name. It was called Project Century. Yeah, Project Century. Dude, that looks nuts. My history nerd part goes like, I got the goosebumps just thinking about it.
01:58:35
Speaker
I'm very excited for when we'll see you know more of that. um Okay. Back to McDonald's. Yeah, sorry about that. why No, no. It's fine. Again, when I can nerd out about Yakuza, I love nerding out about Yakuza. We're going to have to do a part two.
01:58:51
Speaker
so We will, yes. 2023 Crash Team Rumble 2004 Sega. I'm going to go with...
01:59:02
