00:00:21

Hello everybody and welcome back to another brand new episode of Tony's Game Lounge. i am your host as always, Tony14. And joining us this week, we have a very special guest. Actually, you could call this maybe a four, the first ever foreshadowed guest of a season.
00:00:40
Speaker
Where earlier this year I said, how do you speedrun Roller Coaster Tycoon? And well, we might actually have an answer to that tonight as we are joined by a Twitch streamer um and speed runner who was featured recently at Summer Games Done Quick 2025. Dino Nation, welcome to the Tony's Game Lodge podcast.
00:00:59
Speaker
Hey, how's it going? Glad to be here. Hey, glad to have you. Thank you for agreeing to come on. And you know what? it's ah I'm excited to get into our main topic today when we do get there.
00:01:10
Speaker
There's a lot of stuff to cover today, though, because Tokyo Game Show did happen and also ah PlayStation dropped a new state

Favorite Games and Soundtracks

00:01:17
Speaker
of play as well. But before we get into all of that, dno We get to start off with the loading screen and hot takes.
00:01:23
Speaker
So to kick it off with loading screen, um you get to give us your favorite video game, favorite video game character, and favorite game ah soundtrack. Video game's a tough one. I was actually asked this at work ah like a week ago, and was like, you know, if we pick one, ah I can't pick one, I can give you like five of my favorite.
00:01:45
Speaker
If you were to give me one one, one game where it's like, this is all you can play, this is this is your game. ah classic legend of zelda the wind waker great game great game all around you got the music you got the the visuals the story it's all it's all all around a really good game now are you akin to original wind waker or wind waker hd hd everyone says that like oh they ruined it by making it hd it doesn't look as good i like how it looks yeah i do like how it looks like features
00:02:17
Speaker
The quality of life features with the Swift Sail, it's like it makes it so much better. No, I agree with that. And I'm still bad that we never really get to so see HD Wind Waker or Twilight Princess come to the Switch considering they were putting everything from the Wii U on the Switch ah to make the Wii U irrelevant.
00:02:40
Speaker
And those are like the only two games and like one Kirby spinoff title that like the Wii U has now. Yeah. But consider they could remaster it a second time.
00:02:54
Speaker
ah They could. ah they could do them h d two. Now with more amiibo functionality. Because that's all I would probably do. Okay. What about game character?
00:03:09
Speaker
This is an interesting one. um It's going to be the player character of Chicory, a colorful tale. kind of Kind of an obscure game. ah I've heard heard of the game. I don't think I've seen gameplay, but I've it's heard of it by name.
00:03:25
Speaker
If you just look at the game, it kind of looks like ah like a kid's game. It's almost like a drawing book because you kind of color the world. But the story and the characters that that game has, like, they move you.
00:03:38
Speaker
Yes. Okay. No, I'm looking at the art now. I do remember this. The main character's passion and drive is like what you want to see in yourself almost. ah It's a very touching game.
00:03:51
Speaker
Nice. That's really cool. the the The other main character, Chicory, is a close second. Excellent. Nice. Nice. a Favorite game soundtrack?
00:04:03
Speaker
I'd actually go with the soundtrack from Tunic. Oh, yes! That one I can just listen to whenever. Just pull up any song from that and you're just you just vibe out with it. I love i love finding Tudyk Enjoyers out in the wild.
00:04:18
Speaker
it is It was my game of the year back in 2023. three Was it that long ago? 22, It was 23? one of those two years. You're saying 22, that's even longer.
00:04:28
Speaker
Oh, no. Yeah. One of my favorite games of all time is Tunic. and I really enjoyed Tunic, yeah. was I was the person that played for an hour and then spent two hours translating the language and then resumed playing, reading all the texts that it was giving you. Wow.
00:04:45
Speaker
Yeah. Nice. That's cool. That's... That was a game. It's such a great game. It's such a great game and, like, a lot of, like... i I was talking. Yeah. a while I saw a lot of like tunic in like, what was it? Was it? I think I said blueprints. Like it is like, i there's like a, there's like a familiarity almost with Yeah. With the, the deeper puzzles underneath everything where you're kind of going through just doing the things that make sense. But if you actually start looking, you'll see this deeper stuff going on.
00:05:14
Speaker
Yeah, no, it's great. It's why i love Blueprints and it's Blueprints is very good. It's great. It's to Tunic. I just I love when people just bring up Tunic because it well, it is like and it's not like the most obscure game because it was nominated for best indie at the game of awards. Yeah, it's here. It's still just yeah I feel like I don't find enough people out there who have played it.
00:05:37
Speaker
hmm. especially within my friend group because I'm like I'm that weird guy in my friend group who plays everything and it's like oh guys have you played blah blah blah and they're like what the fuck is that I brought up Silksong at work and like one person had heard of it I'm like really y'all y'all play indie games that that's like especially Silksong of all things like people have been talking like it's like one of the it was a it's essentially the GTA of indie games yeah at this point I was so surprised Wow.
00:06:07
Speaker
Yeah. Okay. Well, ah moving on from Lotus Creek to Hot Takes, what is your hottest video game take?

PlayStation State of Play Highlights

00:06:13
Speaker
Another obscure game, but the best like weird custom gameplay style I've seen in a game is in Tingle's Rosy Rupee Land.
00:06:27
Speaker
And the way that game, the way that game works is you have money that you accumulate. The money is also your health. So if you go to a shop and buy something and spend all your money, you're out of health and you can't go on.
00:06:44
Speaker
Oh, and all of the major purchases, including like quest reward payments are a barter system. You want to buy this? how much you going to pay for it?
00:06:57
Speaker
20K. That's not enough. 25K. That's not enough. ah You just saved the town. How much money do you want? 30K. Too much. I ain't paying you that. You get nothing. So it's this really interesting mechanic where everything you do ties back to this same, like, you need this to live.
00:07:16
Speaker
So you want it you really encourage to accumulate as much as possible. But even that... stressful at times wow the gameplay loop of that game actually gives the lore of why tingle is stingy that's yeah i've i only know of the game because of i think smash bros had a trophy that mentioned uh yeah because tingles dog root pull had a trophy or a sticker barkle yeah uh had a trophy or a sticker in smash brawl you should check out my my twitch emotes they are 90 barkle oh my god 10 the main character from chickory that's great that's a great combo of emotes uh i just have uh mine are just a bunch of digimon
00:08:07
Speaker
Digimon are cool. are cool. I appreciate their designs. I do as well. And for those wondering, hey, have I played Time Stranger yet? i mean, okay, as as of recording this, no.
00:08:19
Speaker
I did not play on day one, unfortunately, because I was too busy setting things up. But by the time listen to this, I will have played it. I will have played the first couple of hours of Time Stranger, but I won't. I can't tell you how it was because I haven't played it yet. too But next episode, oh, you're going to hear me gush about Digimon because, God, I love Digimon.
00:08:44
Speaker
ah Moving on to our headline of the week, PlayStation State of Play for September twenty or uh i guess you could say this is kind of like the kickoff of all the live streams for tokyo game show because essentially that is why this happened in the first place uh and we got to see a lot uh a lot a lot for uh just overall in general for tokyo game show uh but for playstation we start off with saros this is a in a first look of the gameplay for the game this is uh
00:09:16
Speaker
Essentially the follow-up game from the developers who made Returnal and that rogue like rogue like roguelike action game ah starring Rahul Kohli.
00:09:28
Speaker
um Looks good. Looks cool. ah I still want to play Returnal. I just haven't gotten around to it. Game comes out March 2026.
00:09:37
Speaker
um We also got a trailer for Zero Parades, ah which is the follow-up game from the Disco Elysium developers, which ah one ah which is apparently one of the greatest RPGs ever made, according to everybody who's played it. I still need to play. I got another one I need to play, but like a lot of people say it's like one of the greatest RPGs ever, and I'm like, damn, really? Yeah, it's on my toplay list.
00:10:01
Speaker
Yeah, same here. And then in the funniest thing that happened in the entire state of play, Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 is coming to PlayStation ah December 8th, specifically to PlayStation 5. I just find that funny.
00:10:17
Speaker
ah Like, I know that Xbox has been giving PlayStation some of their games to put on the service. Like, we got Sea of Thieves, Hi-Fi Rush, Grounded. And I think Grounded 2 is there, too, but I don't know for sure.
00:10:31
Speaker
ah But now Microsoft Flight Simulator, which literally has Microsoft in the title and we're playing it on a PlayStation. That's funny.
00:10:42
Speaker
like Like, I laugh at that every time I see that. mean, it's the PS5 getting Nintendo Land. Yeah.
00:10:50
Speaker
You know what? That's the real question we got to start asking ourselves so because but we know that Nintendo Land is not going to be anywhere else. That's the third game that's stuck on the Wii forever.
00:11:00
Speaker
Yeah. that's stuck on the we you forever um Battlefield 6 got its campaign reveal. That's coming out October 10th. Deus Ex is getting remastered with enhanced visuals and overhauled controls.
00:11:13
Speaker
It's coming out sometime next year for the game's anniversary. um We got a new trailer for Halloween in the game. This is the same people who got gave us ah Texas Chainsaw Massacre the game and also the original game that they worked on Friday the 13th.
00:11:28
Speaker
Now doing one for Halloween, an asymmetrical horror survival game coming out September 8th, 2026. I believe giving this now the furthest release date that we know of for the new year, ah all the way to September now.
00:11:45
Speaker
Last Epic is getting a PlayStation 5 version, and its first expansion, Orobus, will launch the same day as the release, um which they didn't ah really say. um We got another trailer for Seven Deadly Sins Origin, which I just haven't cared about, but mostly because from my disdain with the series.
00:12:04
Speaker
It comes out January 28th, 2026. um Mega Man DLC is coming into Sonic Racing Cross Worlds, specifically Mega Man and Proto Man. um They'll be launching sometime after the Pac-Man DLC ah next year.
00:12:18
Speaker
um We got a new trailer for Nioh 3 coming february and the game comes February 6th. Dynasty Warriors 3 Complete Edition is being remastered and coming out March 2026. why why sex Code Vein 2 got another trailer. Game comes out January 30th.
00:12:33
Speaker
We got like one final little thing for Final Fantasy Tactics, The Evil East Chronicles. Game is out now. um Let It Die is getting a sequel with Let It Die Inferno as it was announced. It comes out December 3rd.
00:12:46
Speaker
And for those who do not know what Let It Die is, ah just go listen to the soundtrack because that's the best thing about the game. If you like J-Rock and like a lot of like the anime bands that have done some of your anime openings, just go listen to the soundtrack because it's got Survive Said the Prophet, ah Rookies is Punk'd, a bunch of other rock bands like that in the soundtrack. So go just go check that out. You don't really need to play the game unless you're really into that, into that the style for it.
00:13:19
Speaker
um We got a trailer for Chronoscript, The Endless End, a new Metroidvania style game with a very rustic, rustic, like a, very like a, it's this book theme.
00:13:31
Speaker
You're in books and it's a Metroidvania. looks really cool. It's coming out sometime next year. ah Crimson Desert got a new trailer coming out March 19th, 2026. And then they showcased their new so wireless speakers that are coming out next year.
00:13:47
Speaker
The Pulse Elevate wireless speakers, which... Honestly, i would get only because of my current setup. My PlayStation runs through a capture card. and I don't like having to open the capture program every time I want to just play PlayStation.
00:14:03
Speaker
So having just a USB plug in to my PlayStation for the speakers to work actually wouldn't it be too bad. ah so I wouldn't mind that.
00:14:15
Speaker
personally, but it was kind of just like a, okay, these are here. Cool. Uh, for PlayStation plus the monthly games for October were revealed as Alan wake to cocoon and goat simulator three, which is a i mean, I'll wake two alone just sells month of October.
00:14:32
Speaker
um Last of Us Part 2 Remastered is now out on PlayStation Plus. And coming to the Classics catalog are Tekken 3, Soul Calibur 3, and Tomb Raider Anniversary. edition anniversary ah Those two games aren't in the system yet, but they are coming soon.
00:14:49
Speaker
Gran Turismo 7's Spec 3 update comes out in December. God of War is getting a 20th anniversary PS5 controller, and they just kind of dropped that out of nowhere. i wasm just like, hey, God of War controller.
00:15:02
Speaker
And we're all like, oh, ah ah okay. Thanks? It's Just like a white controller with a red stripe in it, though, it's not the most creative that they could have done with it. um And then the big, big thing at the very end of the state of play, Marvel Wolverine coming fall 2026. And my God, is this game bloody?
00:15:25
Speaker
ah Liam McIntyre is playing Logan ah and Wolverine himself and the other X-Men characters that we did get to see in the trailer were Omega Red and Mystique the game i we didn't I don't really remember if we saw much gameplay aside from just like little tidbits which I think it's just kind of following the same combat that Spider-Man had ah just you know ah with Wolverine's style um and much more blood a lot of blood like i have never seen this much blood in a video game ever but like that's that's no that's not true i've seen blood in a lot of blood in video games but this was whoa damn a lot of blood and that was basically the state of play uh pretty all right and then a nice big out of the park ending uh what are your thoughts on all that stuff dino
00:16:24
Speaker
I'm at a disadvantage here. I'm a ah a Nintendo kid. If we were talking Nintendo Direct, I could tell you everything about everything that was just displayed. um and one The one thing that stands out is actually the Disco Elysium, the Zero Parades. Yes. um that That I know. I've seen Disco Elysium quite a bit. It's one of those games where...
00:16:47
Speaker
you can definitely play it, but it's also interesting to watch other people's experiences because it's, it's very story driven. And there's a as far as I understand it, lots of ways to take the story. So I've seen almost a full playthrough of that, that someone's dreamed.
00:17:01
Speaker
um And just the, the world building and the, ah the visuals and everything in that game seems really interesting. So I'm excited to see what the, what the devs come up with next.
00:17:12
Speaker
Yeah, very much. Very, very much. Um, Yeah, that that it was a good state of play. Was it the best? i heart It's hard to say nowadays with a state of plays because yeah I can say this.
00:17:27
Speaker
It wasn't the worst. They have a worst. I can name it to you. I i can name you the the worst one that they've had. believe it. But this one, definitely not it. Good job, PlayStation.
00:17:41
Speaker
Sounds like they also pulled the Nintendo of but one more thing and have the biggest drop at the end. Yeah, i mean but that that's what they usually do. You've got to save like the big thing for the end. yeah yeah Save the best for last. You've got start off with something strong and you've to end strong.
00:17:55
Speaker
The middle can be whatever. you Usually having like something cool in the middle is nice. but nintendo Like some wireless speakers. Those are cool. Wireless speakers.
00:18:07
Speaker
Yeah. Nintendo's definitely better at like giving us something in the middle game in the middle of their shows. ah But PlayStation needs to work on it a little bit.
00:18:20
Speaker
ah Well, with that, ah the headline out of the way. It's now time for us to dive into ah literally everything else that happened during the Tokyo Game Show and some other things in the week in review.

Yakuza Franchise Celebration

00:18:32
Speaker
Recapping the major stories of video games and the world of tabletop, looking over recent releases and reports from the Game Lounge crew, it's the week in review. But before we get into that, some of the games that came out these past two weeks, you had Baby Steps release after it got delayed for Silksong.
00:18:49
Speaker
Hades 2, only for it to be in the same release week of Hades 2, going into full 1.0 version of the game. I have played Hades 2 recently.
00:19:02
Speaker
Prior, I still haven't played it now that it's in full release yet. I want to. I just don't have time. but I'm borderlanding and crossworlding too much right now.
00:19:14
Speaker
And then I've got the the Dice of Destiny also dropped the new Nicktoons game. So I got play that. ah Gaming's busy a bit right now.
00:19:24
Speaker
Gamers backlogs are growing faster than we can beat these games. Yeah, no, i that that is true. ah Silent Hill F also released. Ghost of Yote is out, which is another one that I got to play.
00:19:36
Speaker
And Digimon Story Time Stranger, which I'm saving that to streams only. So that way I don't have to worry about that one in my backlog. So ha take that backlog. I'm better than you.
00:19:50
Speaker
i believe it's i believe it's pronounced silent. Yes, love hilfs.
00:19:55
Speaker
ah yes i do love hils um Going into our game news, starting off, Ryugaga Toku Studios had a direct, and they also had a keynote as well just to talk about stuff because then they're celebrating 20 years.
00:20:13
Speaker
um The Yakuza franchise is at least 20 years, and to celebrate for 20 well, well The one thing that I've said they should have done ah is finally happening. We are getting Yakuza Kiwami 3.
00:20:30
Speaker
But we're not just getting Yakuza Kiwami 3. We are also getting Dark Ties. This is a spinoff game that stars Mine, essentially kind of the main villain, but not really the main villain.
00:20:43
Speaker
More like the anti-hero of Yakuza Kiwami 3. We are getting a full game on his origin story. Uh... in the in as a package, a package deal of Kiwabi 3 and Dark Ties, and I am so excited for this. I love the Yakuza franchise so much, as listeners already know, because I talk so much about the Yakuza games.
00:21:09
Speaker
I am glad that we are getting this because, in my opinion, 3, even though it has a great story, is the weakest of all of the Yakuza games because of its age. And instead of having it be remastered along with 4 and 5 in that trilogy bundle, they should I said they should have just released Kawhi 3. Well, now they finally are.
00:21:27
Speaker
um And I'm super glad that they are. um There will be an English dub on the release of the game, which seems to just be the new norm for them, five which is great. um We are also getting new voiced lines in the games and re-recorded lines from the original as well.
00:21:44
Speaker
for though we We are in two locations, like we were with Kiwami 2. For those who have not played Yakuza 3 yet, go play Yakuza 3. um Prepare yourself for Kiwami 3, because it's just going to much better time.
00:21:56
Speaker
Kamurod Show returns, and we also get to explore Ryukyu Okinawa in the Dragon Engine, finally, which is super great. Kiryu has two styles of combat, his Dragon of Dojima style and a Ryukyu style, which is very weapon focused with Kiryu getting eight different weapons to wield in this style.
00:22:16
Speaker
um As for some new features coming to the game, there's a Life at Morning Glory, which will probably be a whole side mode. The legendary baddie, Bad Boy Dragon. This is Kiryu leading a girl motorbike gang.
00:22:31
Speaker
uh, to glory essentially, uh, which looks really funny and really dope. Uh, flip phone customization, because this is, this game takes place in a time when flip phones were still a thing.
00:22:44
Speaker
Uh, so you get to customize curious flip phone and help him be savvy with technology. ah From the looks of things, all of the old Yakuza 3 karaoke songs are going to be back and possibly revamped.
00:22:57
Speaker
And we're most likely going to get some new karaoke songs in there as well. As well as a bunch of minigames. ah I could list off what they all are, but I'll remember all the three minigames off the top of my head. We will get... I'm hoping that we see the full golf course return. Because Yakuza 3 was the only time we ever got a full golf course for the golf minigames.
00:23:18
Speaker
So... Hopefully we get to see that done again with how they do the golf now. Because in Yakuza 3, it wasn't good. But like with how they've done the modern golf game now, it's a lot better. So I'd like to see that.
00:23:31
Speaker
ah As for Dark Ties, you play as Yoshitaka Mine as he started off in the Tojo Clan. It's all the events leading up to Kiwami 3 takes place only in Kamurocho.
00:23:42
Speaker
And he gets karaoke songs too. ah He actually does a version of Bakamitai. um His main battle style is centered around boxing. um For a side mode, you have Kanda damage control, where I guess you gotta just reel in Kanda or clean up his messes.
00:24:00
Speaker
um And there's an underground underground fight club for a Coliseum mode in Dark Ties as well. The games release February 12th as a set. You you get them both.
00:24:12
Speaker
ah Two games for the price of one, essentially. So very excited for this. I am looking forward to this. The one thing that I did see a lot of criticism on is the new redesign of Rikia doesn't look like Rikia.
00:24:26
Speaker
So they're hoping that that gets changed before the game gets put out, but I don't really care. It's all right. I'm, i'm I'm just like a Rikia meh kind of guy. No offense to Rikia.
00:24:41
Speaker
ah Also in the direct, Kiwami and Kiwami 2, the Switch 2 versions of those comes December 8th. They're also going to be released on PlayStation 5, Series X, and Steam with the English dubs.
00:24:54
Speaker
um And Yakuza 0 Director's Cut will come out December 8th for PS5, Series X, and Steam. ah They're working on a brand new TV series. from the creators of like a very popular Japanese crime show.
00:25:07
Speaker
And they ended this the Direct off with a behind-the-scenes video with some more Stranger Than Heaven footage. ah Their new game that's beat of that is being set.
00:25:21
Speaker
the The game that we don't know a whole lot about, but looks really cool. And that was the RGG Direct. Have you ever seen much of the Yakuza franchise yourself, Dino? so i Yes.
00:25:33
Speaker
um i'm I'm trying to describe my perspective of Yakuza because it's kind of had like, I'm definitely totally off with this, like the Kingdom Hearts effect where they release a game and then they release a sequel, then they release a prequel and it kind of builds this timeline that if you know the game and have been following it it's probably pretty easy to be like, yeah, this is the order and these are the the characters and this is how they move around.
00:25:57
Speaker
But as someone who's never played them, it's like, so there's a six and there's a zero. so ah yeah Yeah. So the Yakuza, believe it or not, the Yakuza timeline, isn't that hard.
00:26:07
Speaker
The games, I don't think it is now the games were released one through five. ah but then in a time of like, essentially the the, they weren't doing great with, with the original release of five.
00:26:20
Speaker
And so they said, fuck it, let's make a prequel. And they released Yakuza zero, which takes place essentially at the very start of the series. Yeah. ah and it did great, and it essentially was the revival of the Yakuza franchise.
00:26:34
Speaker
with the With them having then advanced so much, they remade Yakuza 1 and 2 with the title Kawabi, which just means extreme in Japanese. And so Yakuza Kiwabi 2 were the remakes of the first two games, basically one-to-one with just new features added.
00:26:51
Speaker
um That is like, essentially, like, you can play the old ones. ah You can play the first one if you really want to hear Mark Hamill voice Goro Majima, who's ah so a key character in the game. But, like, other than that, there's no real reason to play the first two anymore, aside from just real nostalgia factor.
00:27:10
Speaker
From that, they released six. ah And then Like a Dragon, which is seven. Infinite Wealth, which is eight. Two spinoffs in the Judgment games. A historical timepiece that just teaches history, but all the characters are the Yakuza.
00:27:25
Speaker
All the the historical characters are use the Yakuza character models, but they're not those characters are just the historical people in this timepiece game. And now koami three is just the remake of three with a prequel to three essentially with dark ties. So it's that simple. look Okay.
00:27:43
Speaker
It's that. And then there's a pirate and then there's a pirate game, but it falls at a very pirate one. Yeah. but That falls at the end of the timeline. So that was fine. ah so it's It's funny. Essentially the timeline, it starts at zero ends with pirates.
00:27:57
Speaker
Yeah, I've only seen good things about the no is it games. I haven't played it. they They are great. And now that ah essentially zero, the first zero Kiwami, Kiwami two and three are all in English now.
00:28:12
Speaker
It's a good like because i know a lot of people can find it jarring to have a full game in Japanese. ah sometimes. So having those but essentially the starting points all in English is great.
00:28:23
Speaker
And it probably means we are going to get a Kiwami four and five eventually. Um, it'll just take longer and I would see more of a Kiwami four than a Kiwami five realistically, uh, because four is old as well.
00:28:38
Speaker
And for us, five's gameplay was very similar to zeros as I think it was the same engine with maybe just like slight differences between five and zero. So yeah yeah, we might get a Kiwami four, which I wouldn't mind because four is my favorite in the entire franchise.
00:28:56
Speaker
um But yeah, that was the ah RGG Direct. I'm very excited. I'm go to be i'm excited that we get another Yakuza game for another year. Also, RGG held a 50-minute show for Virtua Fighter because they are the guys working on the new Virtua Fighter.
00:29:12
Speaker
We didn't get a whole lot of details. or although a whole lot of gameplay looking like, look, we did get information that we're getting a brand new battle system, uh, which plans to stand alongside virtual fighters, traditional style as its own thing called uprising.
00:29:30
Speaker
Uh, seems like their attempt at delving into a more modern fighting game formula with dynamic momentum shifting opportunities, according to the presentation. Uh, these opportunities come in the form of new mechanics called flow guard, break and rush, and the stunner and stun combo systems.
00:29:45
Speaker
We'll see more later when it comes to this. They're still doing stuff for ah the global the global launch on certain platforms for Virtua Fighter 5 Revo. um So I'm sure we we won't see more Virtua Fighter stuff until the new year. realistically We then dive into Capcom's Tokyo Game Show online program, um where they went over a lot of things that we knew about, but also some things that were nice that Capcom to address.
00:30:11
Speaker
um We got a new trailer for Pragmata. um We got to see how upgrades work in the game and got a little bit more of a gameplay look. ah Game comes out next year. Also, unlike the Nintendo Direct in America, ah we did finally get like a look at the Mega Man Star Force Legacy Collection.
00:30:30
Speaker
coming out next year and all the games that are tied to that ah which for those who did not hear like ah the episode where we covered the most recent Nintendo Direct Mega Man Star Force Legacy Collection was in the Direct in Japan it wasn't in the West but where you know Mega Man fans are starving
00:30:52
Speaker
They're starving. They're in a drought. they're they They want something. They need sustenance. And Capcom this is depraving them from it. But now we' we're getting new Mega Man next year. It's just HD of the Star Force game.
00:31:05
Speaker
For Street Fighter VI, they have a Monster Hunter Wilds collab going on with new EX colors for five fighters. We got a gameplay trailer for Crimson Viper. ah She drops October 15th. We also got the Banshee's Last Cry collaboration scenario going on in the World Tour mode, which is a mystery-type game.
00:31:27
Speaker
Everyone's blue. um So if you just look up Banshee's Last Cry, you see all these blue people. That's that that's what we're getting in Street Fighter. It's weird. um Outfit 4 for Zangief was revealed, and he essentially becomes a robot.
00:31:43
Speaker
And there's also going to be a Cavalera Conspiracy collab, ah which is a band. And there's going collab with that in Street Fighter, which is cool. um We got a Phoenix Wright Ace Attorney trilogy.
00:31:56
Speaker
The first trilogy is getting a title update November 19th. They are adding the a gallery mode to the game, which will include a music player, ah scene and scene editor, um and artwork, um episode selection, ah voice and text options, and two new languages, Brazilian Portuguese and Latin American Spanish.
00:32:16
Speaker
ah So cool. We're getting an update to this collection. Are we going to get a new... Phoenix Wright game, Capcom? Are you working on one? Please?
00:32:28
Speaker
Please? Please? i want something. I love the games. ah wanna to I want to do my old man judge voice again. Give me a reason, Capcom.
00:32:40

Speaker
ah The talking about the big thing, the Omega Planetes Final Fantasy 14 crossover. and ah I popped off of this trailer because Alpha and Omega did make an appearance in the game. They are in the game.
00:33:26
Speaker
I'm just like, oh, it's Alpha. Oh, ah For those who don't know who Alpha is, he's the little chocobo who's wearing a little suit, a little ah like a like a ironworks suit.
00:33:38
Speaker
It's super. soundsor I love Alpha. I love Alpha so much. i will do anything in this world to protect him. um Coming to the game are two new jobs, Pictomancer and Dark Knight, both Final Fantasy XIV jobs. Well, now you can play those in Monster Hunter to fight Omega and other monsters with, too, because why not? um There are Palico and Mount Cosmetics in the game, and they also you can also go fight the Arc-Tempered New Udra boss.
00:34:06
Speaker
um There's new free DLC featuring four gestures coming that are out. um New Cosmetic Pack 3 paved DLC, which features some animations. The Festival of a Accord, a dream spell. The Halloween event is going on or it's coming up soon.
00:34:20

00:34:33
Speaker
twenty twenty six And that was the Capcom show. um What were some highs and lows for... What well what stuff from that do you recognize, Dino?

Tokyo Game Show Highlights

00:34:42
Speaker
yeah ah Phoenix Wright. I know Phoenix Wright.
00:34:47
Speaker
nice it's It's another one of those series where I should probably play that at some point. um I would recommend the the main six games are great, but ah the the Miles Edgeworth investigation games are great. And the great Ace Attorney is the best of the best.
00:35:07
Speaker
ah Fair enough. All I know is almost Christmas means it wasn't Christmas. Yeah. Almost Christmas does mean it wasn't Christmas. got it's It's got to come up once a year. That line.
00:35:17
Speaker
but a dot It really does. and it And if it probably, if it smells, it's probably the butts. yeah Uh, then Annapurna Interactive revealed three brand new games of the Tokyo Game Show in their showcase.
00:35:32
Speaker
Uh, starting with D-Topia, a gently paced puzzle adventure game in which players work as a facilitator tending to the D-Topia residential facility. That is, at least on its face, a seemingly perfect society managed by AI.
00:35:45
Speaker
D-Topia's puzzles focus on exploration and nuanced choices that uncover the human heart of this perfectly happy world. It is set for a 2026 release date for switch the Switch systems, PS5, PC, and Series X.
00:35:59
Speaker
The one that I'm excited for, People of Note, a turn-based RPG musical from Iridium Studios, is pitched as a full-fledged musical condensed into a video game.
00:36:09
Speaker
2026 PS5 PC Series he five pc here's x And then Demi and the Fractured Dream, a classic action adventure love letter with shades of 3D Legend of Zelda games, Journey, and Devil May Cry.
00:36:22
Speaker
Demi and the Fractured Dream casts players as a void scent born into the world of Somnus seeking a way to escape his cursed fate. No news on the release date from that one, though.
00:36:33
Speaker
ah But really cool stuff. I'm excited for people of note. That one looks really dope, and I would encourage people to check out the trailer for that one because I think it'll be really cool.
00:36:44
Speaker
DTopia sounds interesting. I like I like a good puzzle game with ah deeper story undertones. Yes. No, absolutely. See blueprints.
00:36:55
Speaker
Yeah. Yeah. they yeah Essentially. um Then we get to the Xbox showcase. ah Starting with Gungrave Gore Blood Meat, which is a rebuild of the original Gungrave Gore.
00:37:11
Speaker
or gun grave or whatever it is. It's a remake. It's a rebuild of the first one, which is really cool. um We got some new details for double seven. in First light. Gemma Chan is playing Dr. Selena Tan, which I don't know if that's a recurring character in the James Bond series because I've never seen a James Bond film.
00:37:28
Speaker
So I don't know if that's a big deal or not, or if it's just an original character and it's like, cool. That's a casting choice. Yeah. um Double Dragon Revive showed off some new, it's extra modes in a brand new trailer. It comes out October 23rd. If you pre-order the game, you get access to Double Dragon Dodgeball.
00:37:49

00:40:05
Speaker
And that's the Xbox show. um Anything from there interests you at all. I know. So you're telling me PlayStation did a show, Capcom did a show, Xbox did a show, we got nothing from Nintendo?
00:40:17
Speaker
Wow. just It's just my disadvantage week. it It really is. I don't think Nintendo's ever really, when I think about it, don't think Nintendo really has like much to show at tokyo game show i think of course nintendo nintendo famously not japanese yeah yeah oddly enough uh i think they have like a booth or something there like for their demos and i think it's because they already had their direct yeah so i think it's like i don't think they were gonna do anything super crazy for tokyo game show
00:40:52
Speaker
Yeah, no, it makes sense if they want differentiate themselves for them to put it out earlier. But it just means when there's all the things to talk about, it's like... Yeah, no Nintendo at all. watched the Nintendo Direct. Does that count?
00:41:05
Speaker
Yeah. ah But yeah, that was the Xbox Game Show. Finally, moving on to actual gaming headline news. ah Starting off, Ananta, that anime-looking GTA.
00:41:18
Speaker
game well we got an extended gameplay trailer for it and it's definitely every game in one to say the least uh you got spider-man combat and web slinging driving like gta shooting like gta and so and it all looks like honkai star rail
00:41:39
Speaker
ah yeah This is a weird one. I really don't know how to feel about this game. i think I'll just have to wait for like reviews on this and see more later. Cause it's a weird one.
00:41:51
Speaker
Uh, in the most unexpected news to come out of the week, Doug Bowser is retiring as president of Nintendo of America. December 31st is his last day and taking his place is Devin Pritchard.
00:42:05
Speaker
Uh, she will be, she will be the first female president of Nintendo of America. Uh, she has been with Nintendo oh for 20 years. Currently she is the vice president of revenue marketing and consumer experience.
00:42:18
Speaker
There's some Nintendo news. There is some Nintendo news. oh What are your thoughts on this? ah doug bowser i didn't know much of him i remember when the transition happened yeah but that's really all you heard when you compare it to like reggie who was always the face of nintendo and always visible and around bowser wasn't really that i don't think i don't know if they were looking or hoping for that or if they were like ah reggie was too much we got to go in a different direction uh but it'd be interesting to see ah how the new president takes it yeah uh bowser hope you enjoy that retirement
00:42:52
Speaker
Uh, and, uh, also Nintendo of America is getting a new CEO as well. Uh, and it's this guy whose name I don't remember, but he's been like all over the place, taking it over as CEO for all the different branches of Nintendo.
00:43:06
Speaker
And now he's going to be the CEO for Nintendo of America. And I think that people are like, Oh yeah, this is a good move. I think. don't really know the, the, the, to people or the shareholders, uh, both. Uh, I, I don't know. I, I, a few people on Twitter.
00:43:22
Speaker
I, I, not the greatest place to get your information by the, like opinions, by the way. um A few people said, actually, yeah, no, this guy's done a good couple of things and like ah where he has been before, so it'll be interesting to see what he can do for Nintendo of America. So it's like, okay. Again, it's a wait and see. with With Nintendo, it's always a wait and see.
00:43:46
Speaker
ah more with Nintendo. ah They put out a brand new mobile game, a new mobile Fire Emblem game.

Exciting Game Trailers and Announcements

00:43:53
Speaker
Fire Emblem Shadows, which has now been dubbed the Fire Emblem Fursona game that's also among us.
00:44:00
Speaker
Huh? this game is a This game is one half social deduction and the other half real-time strategy, not turn-based, real-time strategy.
00:44:12
Speaker
Added a sprinkle of role-playing, and that seems to make up this this new mobile game. So, ah yeah, it's basically three-player game. You go in, you fight enemies.
00:44:23
Speaker
Two of you are good. One of you is bad. The bad one wants to obviously sabotage and try to get you all killed while the other two are while the other two are trying to you know kill kill all the enemies.
00:44:34
Speaker
So it's social deducing mini it's uh is this is it's a weird one and everybody's furry or there's one there sorry there's one character that's like definitely furry uh they got your animal ears and a tail it's just oh this is a weird one fire emblem not gonna lie This is a weird one. They found a very specific niche that hadn't been filled and they're like, we'll put something there.
00:45:03
Speaker
Yeah. um So yeah, that that that happened. And also Mario Kart World has been updated and you can finally track the P switches and P medallias that you have collected.
00:45:17
Speaker
So you no longer have to wonder on the map where the other ones are. No, this is Mario World, not Mario Wonder. i could Yeah.
00:45:30
Speaker
Back in my day, like Breath of the Wild, when you had your open world game, you beat the game and then you went back down the list to every place again. And it's like, right, it's not there. I must have gotten it. right, it's not there. must have gotten got to get this one.
00:45:44
Speaker
I just have no fancy map telling you where to go. I like having a fancy map, though. It's how I 100% hit Breath of the Wild. I couldn't do with Tears of the Kingdom, though. I couldn't put myself through the Korok pain twice.
00:45:57
Speaker
Hideo Kojima and Jordan Peele's game OD finally got his first trailer. um The OD trailer is subtitled Knock. Strongly recalls PT, the infamous playable demo for the Cancel Silent Hill game that Kojima was working on with Guillermo del Toro.
00:46:16
Speaker
And the new trailer looks dope. There's nothing, i mean there's no gameplay whatsoever. It's all just like, here's a tease for what Kojima's cooking up next. I do remember seeing it, actually.
00:46:27
Speaker
Yeah, it looked real spooky. um So yeah i I'm definitely like intrigued with what Kojima can do with working with Jordan Peele on this. ah Because Peele's got a good track record for that that the horror movies that he's worked on.
00:46:44
Speaker
For the most part.
00:46:47
Speaker
in some indie game news Peek receives a brand new update called the Dilly Dally update um it adds a bunch of new things to the airport including a large chess board a basketball net and a photo booth and you can now squish Bing Bong and ask him yes or no questions and he's like bong yeah he's now basically a magic eight ball ah so you can ask Bing Bong are we going to make it to the peak and he'll respond with I miss my wife Yeah. Yeah.
00:47:17
Speaker
Yes, he can. Also in indie game news is a good point. Good place to put it. The sledding game, ah which if you have, if you have TikTok and you've come across this in your feed, the sudden game being worked on by a single guy, the demo for that has released and it is a fantastic demo.
00:47:34
Speaker
I would highly recommend it to, if you're looking for a free game to play with your friends and Bing Bong, there's a little Bing Bong Easter egg at the peak of the mountain. um In Pokemon news that Pokemon actually didn't do something bad someone else did.
00:47:50
Speaker
The Pokemon company says the US government did not have permission to use Pikachu and other Pokemon content promotional videos for the Homeland Security and Customs and Border Protection agencies posted it to x But what Pokemon is go what polk was going to do about this, we don't know.
00:48:07
Speaker
They haven't done anything as of yet. ah They just said, hey, don't do that. But they're not actually doing anything, I don't know, problem um you know, take action against it, i unlike Palworld, so... ah Yeah, the thing about like copyright and stuff is copyrights only as effective as when you enforce it. So they're i feel like they're going to have to do something. Otherwise, people feel like they have and food didn't do anything there. So this is fine.
00:48:34
Speaker
Yeah, like and especially for something this politically charged. yeah Like if Pokemon doesn't do anything about this, that's up it paints a very big. ah Oh, yeah.
00:48:47
Speaker
So I feel like they'll hope hopefully they'll do something about this. i really hope they do. ah so it feels weird to say, but have faith in Nintendo's lawyers. This is, this is this one again, i always say this.
00:49:01
Speaker
Pokemon Company and Nintendo have different lawyers. they They probably all eat at the same table, but they are different. ah fair yeah But yeah, that please please do something about this Pokemon. Please. Please. Yeah.
00:49:16
Speaker
ah Minecraft Live also happened. um Going over the key things that they announced, a brand new mob is coming to the game with as an underwater mount called the Nautilus. ah We're getting a new weapon, the Spear, where the faster you move in a single direction, the more damage you can do. So if you're riding horseback and going fast, you can actually joust now properly, which is really cool.
00:49:37
Speaker
ah There's going to be the Copper Golem and a lot more copper stuff is out now in the game. And Bedrock Edition is getting Dragon Ball Z DLC.
00:49:48
Speaker
Because why not? ah Because why? Because why not? why not hop well Let's go Super Saiyan of Minecraft. That's why. i don't i i have been left behind on the minecraft train and i think i'm okay with that i'll just yeah i'll just be building my my house out cobblestone and uh making fancy redstone things perfect that's that's what i do perfect uh in groundbreaking history a electronic arts is being acquired for 55 billion us dollars.
00:50:28
Speaker
This is the biggest leverage buyout attempt in history for a video game company, even bigger than blizzards acquisition under the terms of a deal announced, uh,
00:50:40
Speaker
Well, on Monday, the 29th, the private equity firm Silver Lake Partners, Saudi Arabia's sovereign wealth fund PIF and Affinity Partners will pay the company's stockholders when the stock reaches it $210 per share. And they're going to buy them out ah and essentially go private.
00:51:04
Speaker
Affinity Partners is a private equity firm run by President Donald Trump's son-in-law, Jared Kushner.
00:51:12
Speaker
I give it 18 months before ea is just gone. This, yeah, this could, it's hard. i don't know. going to be hard to say. Like, they are going private. They're going to off the stock market once the buyout does happen.
00:51:26
Speaker
um And i I really don't know what this bio can

Industry Speculations and Acquisitions

00:51:33
Speaker
even lead to. Like, why really Like, is it because they have FIFA and they want to do something big with FIFA? And in order to do that, you had to pay them $55 billion? Or is
00:51:45
Speaker
or yeah from from like a geopolitical sense, Saudi Arabia has been trying to kind of break ground as like, uh, look at all this cool stuff we have.
00:51:56
Speaker
Yeah. But as, as a just how private equity works and the direction EA has been going, I don't expect it to live long. Yeah. It'll, it'll definitely be interesting, but at least we'll be able to look at all of the EA executives beside the Dragon Ball theme park in Saudi Arabia,
00:52:19
Speaker
Because that's a thing that's happening too. if you If you do or not. Apparently they're building like a Dragon Ball. a massive Dragon Ball theme park. Of course they are.
00:52:29
Speaker
yeah Why not? got here it's It's the new thing in Minecraft. Didn't you hear? yeah Yeah, but that's that's good. That's a great one.
00:52:42
Speaker
ah red ah Red Graves, a team made of some former Fall Guys and Gang Beasts developers are making a brand new eight player party game um with over 500 tasks slash mini objectives to do.
00:52:54
Speaker
ah The game is called Task Time. and It looks like a lot of fun with ah that you can get with eight people in a bunch of mini games like that. Are your notes wrong or did you misread it? Because this says 500,000 tasks.
00:53:05
Speaker
Oh, did i did i did I misread it? Yeah, 500,000. It's a lot. That's a bit more than 500. Yeah, 500,000 tasks. It's a lot. um House Flipper 2 is bringing back the pets DLC ah for as it had it in the first one and it's coming back even grander with House Flipper 2.
00:53:25
Speaker
We're getting a dozen cats, a dozen dogs, hamsters, bunnies, snakes, and more. um This might actually be what gets me back into House Flipper 2 because I own it. I played it. It's a good I like House Flipper. ah I never played the first Pets DLC so maybe I'll maybe I'll I'll try this one and get all the cats and dogs homes.
00:53:47
Speaker
um In anime games, My Hero All's Justice got its release date revealed for February 6, 2026, and the brand new trailer showed off also a semi-open world mode um where you can play as any of the characters go roaming around and save people.

00:54:20
Speaker
um It's also going to come out before the anime debuts the final episodes for My Hero Academia. So you if you if you didn't read the manga and you want to see the ending of My Hero Academia before the anime finishes, play all's justice.

00:55:35
Speaker
Really cool way to do that. And in Microsoft news, to end it off making things more expensive than they are, Microsoft is reworking Xbox Game Pass with new names for the three subscriptions and a price hike on the Ultimate tier.
00:55:51
Speaker
um which is the only tier that offers day one access to new games from game Xbox game studios. Perhaps the biggest impact will be that there is a $10 price increase to game pass ultimate, which will now cost almost $30 month at $29.99.
00:56:08
Speaker
ah As for the name change, so Game Pass's current subscription tiers of Core, Standard, and Ultimate will be going forward to be known as Essential, Premium, and Ultimate, copying p PlayStation's PS Plus tier names.
00:56:22
Speaker
ah Ultimate is getting some upgrades, though, with the price hike. well EA Play, which has been included before, which is part of it already. The Ubisoft Plus Classics and Fortnite Crew now included as a part of the monthly subscription.
00:56:38
Speaker
You've got to get that Fortnite. Yeah. $10 high call because of Fortnite. Xbox Game Pass now costs more in one month than a year that I pay for a Nintendo. Yeah. So actually, somebody did a thing. So it now costs, I think, $50 a year for Nintendo, roughly.
00:56:55
Speaker
Not $25. $25 a year? Okay. Mine just paid. Unless I'm getting six months, pretty sure it's i'm pretty stress's for a year. It literally just went through like yesterday. Oh, shit. Okay. So... ah way Oh, wait. Oh, I think it's 50. Wait, are you? Do you have the... It is the advanced one that's more. I just do the basic one. Okay, yeah. So I think it's with the ah the expansion pass. The expansion pack, yeah.
00:57:16
Speaker
So yeah Nintendo Switch Online with the expansion pass, $50 a year. PlayStation Plus is about $120 a year or $130 a year, something like that. Xbox 360...

i think xbox three sixty ah Yeah, 360 a year. Yeah, fuck. yeah that want the x x three six It is the Xbox 360. It's full circle, right? Yeah, it went full circle. And yikes is all I've got to say to that.
00:57:44
Speaker
like at least I'm glad that I don't have like that desire to use Game Pass. yeah Now, granted, the low-end Game Pass thing would be fine at times. like Obviously, like I think if you do get Games Pass, just get the Essential or the Premium ones. like Unless you really, really...
00:58:05
Speaker
Like ultimate now is like, unless you are playing all of the day one games on game pass on day one, there's no reason for you to really have the ultimate plan anymore. Yeah.
00:58:20
Speaker
So just get essential or premium and you're really good to go and you're saving yourself all that extra money. In the world of ongoing game news, starting off with Final Fantasy XIV, the official site ah for the Monster Hunter Wilds collaboration was up.
00:58:35
Speaker
ah the new And we have a release date for it as it's releasing October 7th along with patch 7.35. Here's everything coming out in the patch. ah Aside from the Monster Hunter Wild stuff, we are also getting the Yakui Outline Society, the Pilgrim's Traverse, Deep Dungeon, and more Hildebrand.
00:58:55
Speaker
As for the Monster Hunter Wilds collab, the Windward Wilds and Windward Wilds EX are the brand new trials to fight Arkveld, the monster. And it looks like it's going to be going more traditional FF14 than it did with the Rathalos fight, where it more...
00:59:11
Speaker
Monster Hunter-y in the style they did it. There are still potions that you have to use to heal, it looks like, and your healing stuff won't work. um But we'll we'll see when we get there. We're getting new glam for both the normal and EX versions of the fight.
00:59:26
Speaker
Two new mounts, the Sacred and the Palico cart. and two minions as well a bunch of furniture and some more rewards ah to go along with it so october 7th which um day you're listening to this is tomorrow um is when 7.35 will drop and i will have more stuff to do in final fantasy 14 again yay more stuff to do on top of everything i already have to do in the world of fortnight the k-pop demon hunters are now in fortnight So, yay.
00:59:57
Speaker
Also, Epic pulled the Peaceful Hips emote from the Fortnite store. um Created as part of the collaboration with James Gunn's DC show Peacemaker. after the latest episodes After one of the latest episodes, Bombshells painted the dance in a pretty damning new light, Cough Cough Nazis.
01:00:14
Speaker
um But after talking with Warner Brothers, they're now just going to adjust the emote. So, yeah. Wow, Fortnite's in drama. They're always in drama. At least it's not as bad as Roblox.
01:00:28
Speaker
I don't know. i don't and't even want to know at that point. You don't. You really don't. like ah In the world of TCG for Pokemon, Mega Evolution Pack is out now.
01:00:39
Speaker
ah For the TCG. In Yu-Gi-Oh! Doom of Dimensions is out now. The Chronicles deck, The Fallen and Virtuous, comes October 24th. Legendary Deez decks comes out November 7th.
01:00:51
Speaker
And Phantom Revenge, December 3rd. And also with Yu-Gi-Oh! news, the brand new format for Yu-Gi-Oh! was announced. It's called Genesis. And how it works.
01:01:03
Speaker
No Link monsters or Pendulum monsters are allowed. Every other card is allowed, including there is no ban list.
01:01:14
Speaker
The original field la layout is used. No extra monster zones, no pendulum zones. um The standard for limited limited cards is not used. ah Basically, the only banned cards are linked monsters and pendulum monsters.
01:01:28
Speaker
The usual limit of three copies max of any card still applies. However, deck construction now uses a point system. Some cards are assigned a point value. Most cards cost zero points, and the total point cost of your cards in your main deck, extra deck, and side deck combined cannot exceed the point cap for the event.
01:01:51
Speaker
Primarily, the point cap is 100, but some events can be run with any point cap or even a zero point cap. Official tournament stores can set their own caps for tournaments.
01:02:01
Speaker
And to see what every card cost ah value is, when you search up Yu-Gi-Oh! Genesis, the official site actually has a whole list of all the cards that cost 100 points.
01:02:13
Speaker
I think the lowest is like 20 or 30 points. So ah yeah, like Pot of Greed is only a 30-point card, so you can run three Pot of Greeds if you want to.
01:02:24
Speaker
Which everybody knows. but but well Which I don't know why because nobody knows what Pot of Greed does. It'll forever be a mystery. forever it will It will be a mystery forever. Surprisingly, it's the only card in Yu-Gi-Oh! I know what it does.
01:02:36
Speaker
Wait, you know the secret? I know the secret of the pot. ah They're going find you. you know ah They're going to silence sila you. You better be careful, Dino.
01:02:47
Speaker
It's okay. i have a I have a guard cat here.
01:02:52
Speaker
Imagine the Gathering. The Spider-Man set is out now. Avatar The Last Airbender cards released November 21st. There's a new Secret Lair collaboration with PlayStation that was announced.
01:03:04
Speaker
ah Seven games with four to five cards a set. The Last of Us 1 and 2. God of War, Greek and Norse. Ghost of Tsushima, Horizon, and Uncharted. And also, the 2026 sets for Magic the Gathering have been revealed with release dates.
01:03:20
Speaker
ah First off, Lorewind Eclipse will be releasing sometime January. yeah Then we have the to-be-announced Universe's Beyond set. ah Secrets of Strixhaven comes in April.
01:03:32
Speaker
Marvel Superheroes in June. The Hobbit in August. ah Reality Fracture in October. And Star Trek next November. In Disney Lorcanas, retail releases, Whispers in the Well drops November 14th, and Winter Spell comes out sometime in quarter one, 2026.
01:03:50
Speaker
And in the Digimon TCG, Hacker Slumber, October 24th, Billion Bullet Cards, release October, and the Tamer's Evolution Box, Rise of Digimon, in December. And lastly, in tabletop news, Invincible superhero role-playing game from Free League Publishing launched a Kickstarter campaign on September 23rd.
01:04:08
Speaker
They broke that goal, and as of my last check, have raised over $320,000 Canadian. So, good on them.
01:04:17
Speaker
so on that um And that is it for the week in review. Any final thoughts on any of those stories there, Dino? That was a big week. It was a big week.
01:04:29
Speaker
A big two weeks. Two weeks. Big two weeks, yeah. ah Magic the Gathering. Apparently, Magic the Gathering did a collab with a group called Jetlag.
01:04:40
Speaker
And they normally do like go around the world and play games. They played a game of Magic the Gathering in New York, like going around and collecting things in the city. And I didn't realize it was actually because i've I watched it like, you know, regularly.
01:04:54
Speaker
And I didn't realize it was actually a Magic the Gathering thing. I thought they just came up with it. But no, it's like, no, this is on the Magic the Gathering channel promoting their new ah Spider-Man pack. It's like, dang, I just got advertised to. It was cool, though.
01:05:05
Speaker
That's great. It but nice. That's really cool. i I cannot wait for the Hobbit cards to release because we know that people are going to go crazy. They're probably going to make a if I was a betting man, they might make another one of one one ring card for the Hobbit pack.
01:05:23
Speaker
like maybe slightly different artwork or whatever. But I feel like they would do that just because like, why not? That there's only two cards ever in circulation. And we know where the first one is because the first one's with Post Malone.
01:05:36
Speaker
So they only they only made one one ring card? Yeah. Well, sorry. So there's multiple one ring cards, but there's a one of one, like super rare. It's like ah whatever the text is that was written on the ring, they have written on the card in that same language.
01:05:52
Speaker
um Okay. So it's like, it's a very rare one of one, really cool, like full art card. ah And the guy who got it was Canadian and he sold it to Post Malone for 2 million bucks.
01:06:05
Speaker
Yeah. du It was the, so like it legit. So like potentially if they do this again, you could sell the other one to Post Malone for 2 million bucks as well.
01:06:16
Speaker
The two ring. The two rings and Post Malone has both. Could have both. It would be cool to see. It'd be funny to see. ah But with that, it's now time for us to dive into all the games that are coming out within the next two weeks.
01:06:31
Speaker

01:08:23

ah Two weeks. two weeks Two weeks. ah You got two weeks. Did you not think it was that close? Yeah, it is very close. um Going over the games one more time for like the bigger ones.
01:08:34
Speaker
We were here together. Great co-op game um coming to the Switch. so that's it good That'll be a good time if you got a friend. yeah Can you do like... local co-op with two joy cons on that game i wonder i think you can that's the switch's gimmick that's that is the switch's gimmick yes i think you should be able to um i so hopefully you can uh you can replay that's the remake of ukulele Uh, which is surprising that it, like, the whole thing of regarding Yuka Replay, getting a whole remake and everything was very weird to begin with, but I guess.
01:09:06
Speaker
Uh, Battlefield 6 for all you shooter enthusiasts, and Battlefield enthusiasts and just people who want a good first-person shooter to play again. ah The 10th, that's your day.
01:09:18
Speaker
And for all the horror fans, Little Nightmares 3, that's a big, big one right there. ah I have not played the Little Nightmares games because I'm too scared. ah But what I will be playing, Snoopy and the Great Mystery Club.
01:09:34
Speaker
I believe is proper point in...
01:09:38
Speaker
i believe i don't i believe it's a proper like point It's a mystery game. It's starting Snoopy from the Peanuts. Like, what more can you ask for? you Nothing.
01:09:49
Speaker
Nothing. And then the 16th, Legends ZA finally drops. And I, as long as I finish another code R, we'll have something to play at work again.
01:10:03
Speaker
It's not to finish Silksong. I gave up on Silksong. i i are I hard gave up on Silksong. Oh my god. That game was too... like i I love Hollow Knight.
01:10:14
Speaker
I beat Hollow Knight like 107%, I think. Everything but the Pantheon. ah I can't do Silksong. It's way too hard for me. And I rage a lot. And i want to take my happiness over a video game.
01:10:30
Speaker
So I quit. Fair. ah But yeah, those are the bigger... And obviously, for all the people who love dancing, Just Dance 126 finally comes out.
01:10:41
Speaker
Because... Wait, what year is it? 2025. They're early. they they're They're always early. Because but they have like a whole year of content to put out next year.
01:10:55
Speaker
nice i see. they They're using ah fiscal years. Yes. Just dance fiscal year 2026. Yeah. Yeah, basically. but that's That's how they do it.
01:11:07
Speaker
but that Because that's how Ubisoft thinks nowadays. ah Well, with that, it's now time for us to dive into our main focus. And here is what we are talking about this week in Game Lounge.
01:11:20
Speaker
Conversations of past and future games, the state of the gaming industry, how big decisions affect gamers, and anything else that's important to us. Here's what's going down this week in the Game Lounge. And to start it off, I teased it at the very top of the show ah that weeks ago when the game list dropped for Summer Game Fest 2025.
01:11:42
Speaker
Summer Game Fest. Summer Games Done Quick. There you go. drops for twenty twelve for but i dropped When the game list dropped and me and the guest wanted were going over the game list,
01:11:56
Speaker
I said, how the heck do you speed run Rollercoaster Tycoon? I'll have to watch that run. That seems like the most interesting speed run out of the entire game list.
01:12:07
Speaker
And well, I can finally get that answer. as dino here trains with a lot of trains uh so dino but let's start us at the beginning how did you get into speed running and how did you get into speed running roller coaster tycoon specifically so well because tycoon it's an old game and i've probably been playing it pretty much since around it came out uh I have super early memories of playing it as a kid.
01:12:38
Speaker
Obviously not getting very far, you know, maybe playing the first like five levels a hundred times, ah that kind of thing. Yeah, i I remember as a kid myself, Aaron Heights was my favorite thing because there was no money limits.
01:12:50
Speaker
And it was just great. it And it was a big map. And it's like, I can do anything. whatever you want. Yeah. Just do whatever. I actually remember when the expansion packs came out for Roller Coaster Tycoon. I got them for my birthday. oh cause It was just the original. It's like there's like more stuff now. wo and You get Arid Heights with the infinite money. And it's a lot.
01:13:13
Speaker
It was is great. um Fast forward a bit. um The first live streams I'd ever done on Twitch back in 2015. You'll never guess what game it was.
01:13:25
Speaker
Rollercoaster Tycoon. Rollercoaster Tycoon. actually looked through my um like really old hard drives and stuff recently. I still have a ah local recorded VOD.
01:13:37
Speaker
i It's from somewhere around 2016 of me playing RollerCoaster Tycoon on Twitch. um So I've been playing it for a while.
01:13:47
Speaker
I played through all the levels on stream. And that was pretty much that. There was a hint of a time in there. When I thought the the the concept crossed my mind, could you play this game fast?
01:14:00
Speaker
And it's like, well, not really, because the game only runs so fast. It takes about a year for about an hour for an in-game year to go by. So anything that's like, oh, do this within three years, you can't really speed run that, I guess.
01:14:13
Speaker
um So the one level I tried to speed run was like a acquire this much ride ticket income ah in this amount of time. And I think I did it by building like 20 swinging ships.
01:14:25
Speaker
So I decided swinging ships had the best i profit per cost. So can build a lot of swinging ships quickly and just be done with it. I think I beat that level in like two or three in-game months, which felt really fast.
01:14:39
Speaker
But that's all I did. Just just that. yeah um Fast forward a bunch more years. And... and trying to remember what which i saw first i think i think it was uh marcel on youtube does a bunch of vocal tycoon videos he started getting big on youtube doing a bunch of like stuff with like the longest uh roller coaster you can make that's like 200 irl years long stuff like that um
01:15:11
Speaker
And he did a video on speed running the game. And it's like, oh, I had a thought about that like forever ago. Let's see what's going on. um Because what you actually use is a game called Open RCT.
01:15:25
Speaker
um When I was playing it way back in the day, that wasn't a thing. You played on Rollercoaster Tycoon Classic on Steam. Yeah. But Open RCT, you can now fast forward the game and all of a sudden speed running becomes possible.
01:15:37
Speaker
it was It was finally a thing you could do. Wow. Wow. The idea being, on top of fast-forwarding, you can also do early scenario completion. so if it's like, get 700 guests in your park by year three, and you do it in two in-game months, the scenario is just like, yep, you did it, you beat the game, instead of having to wait till the end of year three. Oh, so it's the second you hit the parameter, you get the clear. It says, yeah, you gotta wait till year three before we even give you this.
01:16:06
Speaker
okay so that that actually started putting strategy into how quickly can you acquire guests uh into the whatever park you're in uh the the general strategy is ah advertise you turn on the ads and that attracts guests um and then you prevent the guests from leaving
01:16:31
Speaker
So there's there's a lot of ways you can trap guests. um If you just do a no entry sign, they consider themselves lost and they can't find the exit, um which lowers your park rating a ton.
01:16:42
Speaker
So you can't do that. um There are ways to do it with queue lines, where you set up a queue line and set like no entry signs in the queue line. And they'll just like walk back and forth thinking they're still in line, but not really.
01:16:55
Speaker
um And you can just stack a large number of people in a queue line. ah The way I found to do it is with railroad crossings, which OpenICT added to the game to make, you know, quality of life thing. If I'm building a a miniature railroad through my park, I want it to to be able to like, you know, weave around and have a good view of all my rides.
01:17:16
Speaker
And maybe that includes crossing the path every now and again. So, you know, a cool thing to have. And obviously you don't want your guests getting run over. So the devs made the guests like, you know stop and wait for the train.
01:17:27
Speaker
Um, But when they did that, they seemed to essentially disable the guests logic. Like entirely just freeze the guests in place while the train was crossing.
01:17:40
Speaker
So ah the guests won't get hungry. They won't get tired. ah They won't. I think they will want to go home, but it won't count against you because that like logic tick hasn't happened.
01:17:54
Speaker
um So it's a very interesting way that they implemented that. And it makes it so that you can so freeze guests in place and it isn't detrimental to your park rating.
01:18:06
Speaker
So that's generally what we do. We set up ah for most of the levels. the The run in particular was Loopy Landscapes. It has the largest variety of levels. um scenario requirements yeah as opposed to the other ones have mostly just guest requirements in which case it's train train train train train maybe something else now train train train uh yeah so you set down the train you you start advertising and the scenario beats itself in usually 20 to 30 seconds
01:18:37
Speaker
Wow. that' that That is crazy because watching it happen, I'm like, wait. it it was It was funny seeing like some of the early stages. like, all right, that looks cool. Let me look at my phone really

Roller Coaster Tycoon Speedrunning Tips and Tricks

01:18:49
Speaker
quick.
01:18:49
Speaker
We're like five stages in. How? they They do go by really fast. um A lot of times you place down the train and to prevent the like two frames out of 300 FPS s that you lose.
01:19:04
Speaker
ah You just scroll off to the side real quick so you don't see all the guests coming in. So as someone watching, you're like, all right, you place down a train, you're looking at water, the park's done. What happened? Yeah.
01:19:15
Speaker
Now, trains aren't the only thing that you placed during the speedrun showcase at GDQ, as also the aptly named TransRights roller coaster ah was placed as well. What is the significance of this roller coaster um for those scenarios and how does it help?
01:19:35
Speaker
The way you get guests in your park, the way guests spawn in the world, uses something called the guest cap. um If your guests in the park is below the guest cap, the game will spawn guests at generally its highest rate.
01:19:49
Speaker
um So if you have a park that should have 500 people in it, but it's empty, the game's going to spawn guests pretty quickly to fill it up to that point. Once you get to that point, the game will really, really start slowing down.
01:20:02
Speaker
It will technically keep spawning guests, but the rate is so reduced that even running at max speed, you you can watch your guest count go up like one at a time. It's really slow.
01:20:14
Speaker
So the goal of parks where you can't advertise, which includes Arid Heights because there's no money, um is to maximize that guest cap. Um, so the best way to do that is to build roller coasters.
01:20:27
Speaker
Every roller coaster you build has a different value. It contributes to the guest cap. Um, like food stalls are like 10 to 20 flat rides can be in the thirties to fifties.
01:20:39
Speaker
Roller coasters are usually like 60 plus, uh, the best roller coaster I think is the air powered vertical at one 10. I might be wrong. Um, or maybe the twister roller coaster at one 10.
01:20:51
Speaker
um But that requires the roller coaster to be built and open. So you can't just place down a station and be done with it. you actually have to build a functioning ride.
01:21:02
Speaker
I chose for that park, the first one he shows up in is Arid Heights. That park, you don't get access to the corkscrew roller coaster, which is ideal because it has 100 guest cap, until like...
01:21:15
Speaker
month, I want to say five or six of researching roller coasters. So you'd be waiting there for like 20 seconds just to get it. um The looping roller coaster only has a guest cap of 90, so slightly less, but you have it right away.
01:21:29
Speaker
And then in later scenarios, you also have it right away. So it's just the ideal one to use. Past that, the goal is to build a functioning roller coaster as quickly and simply as possible.
01:21:43
Speaker
ah with the added advantage of... I'm i'm going to get into more details because skipped some details. How how roller coasters work in that game. um you have this You have the roller coaster stats. If you've played Roller Coaster Tycoon, you know about this. You have the excitement, you have the intensity, and you have the nausea.
01:22:00
Speaker
The goal is to maximize excitement without really... Have some intensity, but not too much, and then try to keep your nausea relatively low. um the way those stats are calculated are based off the parameters of the ride.
01:22:13
Speaker
um There's kind of a base level of those stats. If you have just like blank ride, you've done what you need to. And then as you like add more hills, add inversions, those stats would go up.
01:22:24
Speaker
ah The base stats for the ride are actually enough. They're like in the fours to fives. It's enough. It's not the greatest, most exciting thing, but it's enough where most guests would be like, yeah, sure. um However, there are ways to not get that.
01:22:38
Speaker
And those are minimum stat requirements. ah So for roller coasters, you might have, this roller coaster needs a drop height of 30 feet. If you don't hit the 30 feet drop requirement, all of your stats are cut in half.
01:22:51
Speaker
This roller coaster needs to hit at least 1.5 lateral Gs. If you don't hit that requirement, all your stats are cut in half. it needs to be this long. If you don't hit that requirement, all your stats are cut in half. ah The exception to that is an inversion.
01:23:06
Speaker
A lot of roller coasters, if you have an inversion, they will like ignore other stat requirements. oh Oh. If you really want to think about it, I think Chris Sawyer wanted to have a classic Schwarzkopf looping shuttle loop to be a valid roller coaster because it is roller coaster from like the 80s and 90s. I've ridden one. They're pretty fun.
01:23:28
Speaker
um Be a valid ride. So he made it, oh, you got an inversion. You don't need to be that long because shuttle loops are not long. um They don't really have big drops. They just have the inversion. That's their thing.
01:23:40
Speaker
So by doing a super slow launch up the incline of a loop, it counts as an inversion and gives you no stat penalties.
01:23:52
Speaker
Therefore, it is a valid, good enough stats roller coaster that people will ride.
01:24:00
Speaker
That's everything that goes into that design. It is the reie it is three pieces of track. But the reason it's those three pieces of track is all of that logic behind it. Wow.
01:24:10
Speaker
That's a lot of logic for not that much things. Yep. And then we use that to both increase the ah the guest cap.
01:24:21
Speaker
So we get guests passively in all the parks where you can't advertise. And we also use it in a few parks to just make money. um Because we have other ways of making money with the splash boats ride with four stations. That makes a ton of money, but not every park gets those.
01:24:35
Speaker
So we use the the shuttle loop to the TransRite shuttle loop to get us some money in those parks. Nice. Nice. Because I remember one of the parks, you had to place like 30 them.
01:24:48
Speaker
Yep. There's a park. ah You have a 2,500 uh ah guest requirement so you have to get your soft guest cap to 2,500 well you don't have to but you could just you could just place your train down and wait there for like five hours if you really want to but to do it fast you want to get your soft guest you want to get your soft guest cap to 2,500 and above but each one you place is only 90 um and they also do rarely break down
01:25:19
Speaker
Usually by the end of that, you have like two or three that have broken down. So those don't count anymore towards your cap. So yeah, it ends up being a little more than 30 that you have to build for that park. That's wild. It's a lot. It's a lot of lot of pizzazz for not really being used like like by those little AI guests.
01:25:45
Speaker
Yeah, because because they're getting stuck on train. but some sometimes they ride it there there is ah park maybe two where we use it to make money so they get to ride it and you brought up money earlier and the main money maker was is the water ride this the splash boats yes so how does this is another this is another marcel devont design wo that i don't think i've seen him use in his speed runs maybe um But he showed it off in a video a while back on like super efficient ways to make money and in the game.
01:26:21
Speaker
ah um Because a splash boat boat can hold 16 guests and is really small. So you don't need a big station to hold it. ah The splash boat's ride itself is very exciting.
01:26:34
Speaker
People will pay a lot of money to ride it um and relatively cheap and relatively accessible. And the way multi-station rides work is it calculates the stats for the entire circuit from one station all the way through the other stations back the beginning.
01:26:52
Speaker
And that's just the stat at every station. So despite three of the stations you know moving forward 10 feet into the next station, it still gets the stats as if you went up and went down the big exciting drop. Oh, yeah.
01:27:06
Speaker
So we can get as many people on that ride as possible in a short time for the scenarios where it's like get $10,000 of ride income in a month and you charge $12 a ride.
01:27:17
Speaker
You still need like a lot of people to ride that in a month, but because of the high capacity and throughput, it can happen. Oh, interesting. That's cool. ah The last thing in the run that you did was certain requirements were just to finish roller coasters.
01:27:37
Speaker
the These are the fun scenarios. All the other ones are like, just like build this and then speed up. Finishing the roller coasters was like the most fun part of the run. Before I did this run, ah before I even started, i think I started doing RCT runs more seriously in like February of this year. ahha Kind of anticipating that I wanted to submit it for GDQ because I thought it'd be a cool run and it was something I was familiar with and enjoyed.
01:28:00
Speaker
um no one had done a boopy landscapes run yet oh there had been some level runs because you can do the entire pack or those individual levels there have been some level runs of various um of the uh the specific parks we have to finish the rides but i'm pretty sure not all of them so i had to actually route yeah at least two of those so it's it's five roller coasters per scenario in this four of the s scenario so 20 coasters total i had to route 10 of them with like nothing having been done before oh wow
01:28:39
Speaker
yeah coincidentally about the same time i was doing that a different streamer also was picking up well because tycoon speed runs and was rout routing them at the same time so we actually on one of my streams we were going back and forth they did um dragon cove they routed all of dragon cove um And I made like one tiny change to the ride, uh, to make it more efficient to build.
01:29:04
Speaker
Cause I forget the exact reason, but essentially I turned a 180 degree turn into a loop into 180, 180 degree helix up with a one tile drop after that to get the drops to go up one more, to get that little extra point of excitement.
01:29:22
Speaker
And like a little change like that made a huge difference. Um, So we went back and forth a bit. ah We traded records on the individual levels. But it it was a lot of fun rounding those. um Because like I said before, you have to hit these minimum requirements to have any stats at all. Otherwise you get nothing. yeah And some of those rides are really tough to do that.
01:29:43
Speaker
um You can kind of fake it by... ah you could not You can't fake the minimum length requirement, unfortunately, by setting ah number of laps to be higher.
01:29:55
Speaker
But you can fake like, oh, I only have two drops, but four drops would be better, so I'll just send it around the track twice. That kind of thing. Oh, okay, okay. Yeah, it was it was a lot of...
01:30:07
Speaker
looking at the minimum requirements making sure i gotta hit these and then doing that and being like okay i still need a little bit more okay let me add another drop here a little bit more add another drop here a little bit more let me place a path next to the entrance of the ride and that little that path next to it will give you a bonus of like 0.04 excitement which could be enough to throw you over the edge Oh, okay.
01:30:33
Speaker
There's lots of little bonuses you can get. Yeah, it's it's those little details to just to to make it work. Wow. I think in the first in the first scenario, the hardest one to get the stat requirement on was the suspended swinging coaster because you cannot send it for more than one lap. You only get one lap.
01:30:51
Speaker
um And it doesn't have inversions, so you really have to nail it on the first try. um And it's it's just, it was really hard to figure that one out.
01:31:01
Speaker
um And in the end, I got it to the point where you build the ride, you then have to place four path tiles next to the station,
01:31:13
Speaker
And then place the station for another roller coaster next to it and set them both to synchronize. So you get the ah point for excitement synchronization bonus. And that is like exactly on the nose how much excitement you need.
01:31:28
Speaker
Wow. Yeah. And if you place any of the tiles wrong, you're either not going to get to the end right or you're going to mess mess up the build and not get the the stats right. Oh, how long did it take to route all of these roller coasters? Like, what was the the timeline for for for it all?
01:31:47
Speaker
I don't actually think that long to route them. It took longer to memorize them. Oh, yeah, I guess it was. Because, like, yes, I built the thing that does it. Let me optimize it so it's less changes in direction.
01:32:02
Speaker
And then let me memorize every little detail of this track. So, like... build this piece, go forward exactly six, then do this type of turn unbanked, then go forward another two, then bank and do this turn, then uphill this steepness to like, all of that has to be stuck in your head for everything because you're inputting it so fast.
01:32:25
Speaker
and oftentimes not even looking at it because it's slow to follow your build uh you're just staring at the little piece screen and making sure the piece that shows up is the one you want and you're just clicking those buttons really fast it's a lot of fun i really enjoyed those are my favorite ones to do both in terms of routing and execution um and it was a good time i like those levels so nice nice so what um So you did loopy landscape percent at GDQ.
01:32:54
Speaker
Loopy landscape fast forward percent. What other categories exist within the roller coaster tycoon speed run speed running? So... You got the base game. You got Corks of Follies.
01:33:05
Speaker
I think it's just called Expansion Pack in Europe. So there's some confusion there. Loopy Landscapes is Loopy Landscapes in both places. but ah So you can have Base Pack, which is like a... It just got under 10 minutes ah sometime around GDQ.
01:33:19
Speaker
The base 22 levels is under 10 minutes. Wow. Because it doesn't it doesn't have any of those finished rollercoaches. It's all just money and... Yes. It's it's it's all money and trains. Juju.
01:33:30
Speaker
Um... You have Quirksu Follies, which surprisingly, even a higher ratio of trains in that one. ah It has like one or two levels that are kind of trick tricky, but then like 25 levels that are just build trains.
01:33:47
Speaker
And then Loopy Landscapes, which is the most exciting one, which is why the one I did. ah You have those in Fast Forward Percent, which is what I did. It runs on OpenRCT2. um And then you have Base Game Percent,
01:34:00
Speaker
which is without fast forwarding and you actually have to run it on. You have to run it on the the RCT classic or the RCT version, the steam version, ahcha which means you don't actually get the early completion pop-up, but you'd still be going for, yes, my guest count hit 700 and that was the requirement. So that's the end of the run. Gotcha. Um,
01:34:22
Speaker
Those are definitely different runs because not only is it about maximizing your guest cap, because that doesn't take long, you just build the rides, but it's also you know optimizing every little detail so no guest wants to leave the park and they're spending money.
01:34:36
Speaker
And like at every moment in time, you're maximizing the amount of guests the game will give you, which is very different than place, train, and wait for it. Okay. ah So you said that the program is ah Open RCT2, so is Rollercoaster roller coaster Tycoon two also in this somewhere? Yes.
01:34:56
Speaker
Okay. I've actually considered at some point doing an Open RCT2 entire speedrun. Oh! 100%. There is a category for um r c t one that i um I haven't checked, but I did the record for it because no one had run it yet.
01:35:17
Speaker
ah So I ran it. It took like an hour 20 to do all three packs. Can definitely get it in under an hour at this point because that was when the Loopy Landscapes run was like 45 minutes, and now it's like 35 minutes. Yeah. um
01:35:30
Speaker
And then there's the whole, there's pretty much the same thing for Holocaust Tycoon 2. Does RCT2 follow a lot of the same stuff as RCT1's tech, or is it slightly different? it it It is slightly different. They have a lot of different scenario types, different rides, different restrictions on what you can do.
01:35:51
Speaker
um
01:35:54
Speaker
ah i haven't looked into the RCT2 speedrunning side of things. Okay. I will say, though, ah there there was a a like week or two of controversy um because I had come up with the train strat like back in March.
01:36:11
Speaker
I had come up with it and like, hey, look at this. This kind of makes the run really easy. And there was a big ah worry that it would essentially make the speed run too boring.
01:36:22
Speaker
Oh, no. ah Because at the time, Marcel, who was also actively speedrunning RCT2. um So from the perspective of like, if every if every scenario is just place a train and be done, that suddenly becomes a boring speedrun.
01:36:41
Speaker
um So there was discussions about like, should we ban the strat entirely? Or is it something else we can look at? Because... the The whole thing is about trapping guests, right?
01:36:52
Speaker
There are other ways to trap guests that are just slightly less efficient, where technically you could just use those. So there was there was discussions about it. We didn't end up banning the strat. um I think in the future, there's the possibility to have a new run category called no guest trapping.
01:37:07
Speaker
where you essentially cannot restrict a guest's movement. So they have to be able to leave the park at any time. I think that'd make a pretty interesting run because now you have guest bleed and you have to be accumulating and keeping like attracting guests and keeping them in better.
01:37:22
Speaker
ah But a lot of that had to do with the the the worry had to do with the balance of scenarios in the different ah sets. Because the train strat's really only useful for guest requirements if you need to get a certain amount of guests.
01:37:38
Speaker
um And in RCT2, that's a lot of times not the case. Like, it has a lot less just get guests scenarios.
01:37:53
Speaker
Okay. So the the worry was, this goingnna this is going to be everything. But once once we all realized that that was where the confusion was coming from, and that it's actually just these and these specific scenarios have gotten easier, it's like, this is fine.
01:38:08
Speaker
ah but We'll save save the ah different category in the back pocket in case it needs to come up. But there there was ah there was a lot of discussions around that. Wow.
01:38:19
Speaker
um it's It's crazy that like of all things, all of this stuff is like for Rollercoaster Tycoon. Yeah. Of all the games to have something like this, it's Rollercoaster Tycoon.
01:38:33
Speaker
It's like, yeah oh yeah, you could do this really fast. And you, you would never suspect that. Cause I, I grew up playing rollercoaster tycoon as well. Uh, it was one of my favorite games growing up, only beaten slightly by zoo tycoon two.
01:38:46
Speaker
Um, and it's nutty now to see that the game has become this for like a speed run, a speed running game. It's like, that's nuts. I like never in a hundred years.
01:38:59
Speaker
Would I have thought of thought that would happen. Even as a casual game, people have been playing it. like I don't know how much you look at the game, but if you've seen, some people have started getting really creative with like scenery and fancy decorations. Oh, yeah, I have. it's Using OpenICT's ability to remove collision checks and place scenery like on top of each other to make cool effects. like I've seen buildings constructed with like awnings that are made out of chunks of rollercoaster.
01:39:29
Speaker
ah the god stuff like that wow so what was the process like of getting rct to gdq uh my first gdq run was actually 2024 oh so i it was i was somewhat familiar with the process of what you need to do and like what they kind of look for and how submit and everything 24 also rct or was it something else No, that was Arzette, the Jewel of Faramore. Oh, ah and I do not know what that game is at all.
01:40:03
Speaker
Do you know the Zelda CDI games? Oh, I heard of those. You know those? Yeah. Arzette was made by the person who did the remakes of those.
01:40:14
Speaker
oh but there were remakes of the zelda cdi high games what they they remade them so you can play them not on a cdi oh okay so you can you can just play that right now and enjoy ah an hour or two of uh simple platforming and wacky cut scenes but that that's what i said is it's uh more complex platforming than you might think especially when you try to speed run it and wacky cut scenes uh So I ran that game last year. it was at Silly Block on Wednesday at three in the morning. Oh, that's awesome.
01:40:44
Speaker
It was a lot of fun. ah We actually had the developer on commentary with us. Oh, that's even ah cool. Yeah. So I had known the process. I had been to a GDQ. I'd done a run at this point.
01:40:55
Speaker
um And essentially, i was like, you know, maybe if I... That was fun. Like, check it off the bucket list of, like, big things to do. Yeah. But it's like, maybe if I were to do it again, what would I do? Maybe, don't know, Wilco's Tycoon Speedrunning.
01:41:09
Speaker
i That's been, like, you know, a thing in the back of my mind that seems kind of interesting. Maybe I'll try it. So, like, back in February, i just started looking it up and... There were some feed runs for it. I expanded on the routes, did some runs.
01:41:23
Speaker
And honestly, I submitted them whenever the submission was back in like March or April. Like, yeah, if they take it, they'll take it. If not, that's fine. Like, I'm going to use up all my PTO anyway this year. So but and and then ah and then just like driving home one day, i got an email that is accepted. It's like, oh, dang. OK, I guess I'm going to GDQ again.
01:41:42
Speaker
Nice. So what was the process for picking your couch this time around then? Um, so there aren't many people that I know that play GDQ, uh, play, play, play Volkos Tycoon. Yeah.
01:41:58
Speaker
Um, one of them is actually, i have a friend who's a streamer and a voice actor, uh, Shadow Temple. Um, if you know who Aphmau is, uh, Shadow does voice acting with Aphmau, who's a big, um, like kids Minecraft YouTuber.
01:42:15
Speaker
Um, So if you ask any like 12 year old who watches Minecraft YouTube to listen to Shadow's voice, they'll recognize. but i But Shadow is a big Rolkos Tycoon fan.
01:42:30
Speaker
um Unfortunately, he was on vacation that week. ah So the other people I pulled from, to we'll get into this in the topic, my my my topic. ah Yeah, absolutely.
01:42:43
Speaker
I do a charity event called Zeldathon and two of the other people that work heavily on Zeldathon and actually work a lot with GDQ too, or Tlingit and Zenedir, who both at some point during the week were like the producer for GDQ for a shift. Yeah.
01:43:01
Speaker
Nice. And they both just it just the schedule is just lined up of like, oh yeah, we'll send it up sit in for you. Yeah. Nice. we we We hang out all the time. ah Not all the time, but you know during events and stuff. So we know each other well. We vibe and And really, that's what a coach has to do. So it's like, hey, you want to watch Royal Cristo Tycoon? And it's like, sure, yeah.
01:43:25
Speaker
That sounds like fun. And um zen Zen was great. I gave Zen the notes, and he rolled with it, and I think everyone enjoyed. It was actually funny.
01:43:36
Speaker
it It was funny coming off. um i You know, you get up on that stage, you have the lights in you, you're focused on playing your game. I got off and was like, all right, that was pretty fun.
01:43:47
Speaker
um Every single person i kate i went up to after that, that knew that I i ran it, were like, that was my favorite run of the whole event. It's like... okay like yeah i i thought it was good but like i was so in the zone i didn't think it was that good thanks no honestly though like watching that i think a big thing for a lot of us was we've played this game growing up there's like a huge nostalgia for this and we see it being done on the big stage at gdq like this
01:44:21
Speaker
like this It's kind of surreal to see that. And honestly, it your run is probably in my top five GDQ runs of all time. I appreciate that.
01:44:33
Speaker
And it's funny as well, because I... like Because your run was like one of two runs that i actually caught live. I was lucky to catch yours live um because I was just like, oh yeah, well, what time are... Because I'm friends and I've also had essentially everybody who was doing the SA2 Archipelago.
01:44:52
Speaker
I've had all of them on the podcast at one point in time or another. So I'm like, oh yeah, got to check how the boys are doing and what their run was. And so I went to GDQ to just go check the schedule again.
01:45:02
Speaker
And Rollercoaster Tycoon coming up next. I'm like... This is the run I wanted to watch as well. And so I got to see it live. And that was, it was, I'm still like flabbergasted with the, ah but with that run. And it's really cool. And I would highly recommend people go check out the run because it is really, really, really cool.
01:45:24
Speaker
And the glitch showcase after. Yeah. The glitch showcase is really fun as well. ah So please, if you have not seen it yet, please go watch it. Like it is a great, great speed run.
01:45:35
Speaker
Yeah, it's kind of like the culmination of like all of my interests is the funny thing. Like speed running, gaming charity and roller coasters.
01:45:47
Speaker
but but if you didn't if you didn't catch me mentioning short cut shuttle loops earlier yeah i'm a roller coaster nerd too ah yeah let's go it's like is it like the dream goal to like design roller real roller coasters one day that that was definitely my uh like one of my dream jobs as a kid nice but that's awesome um Last question I have a before we move to your second topic, ah to move to the second topic of the day. what what What's your like end goal with Rollercoaster Tycoon speedruns?
01:46:17
Speaker
What's the and big end goal for these that you have? i want to do 100% again. because I haven't done it since really I optimized the that first route.
01:46:28
Speaker
I want to get that to some an hour. And then at some point, I want i want to do a every scenario in Open RCT run. um That requires essentially learning the entire World of Tycoon 2 route.
01:46:38
Speaker
um But I think that can be done at least in under three hours, if not in under two. That'd be cool. um You know what? I'll be awaiting that day. And hey, if if that gets brought to GDQ, I will be sitting my ass down to watch that whole three hour run, give or take. However long it is, I will watch every single minute of that.
01:47:00
Speaker
But I think I'm trying trying to remember. Yeah.
01:47:06
Speaker
i was in touch with jiggy who does the oops all x uh gdq hot fix show yeah i think he wanted wanted vocus tycoon on hot fix um so it might end up there let's go at the very least i don't know if i'd be like hey i got the same run but longer i'm sure they love that i'm sure they love that like I go fast. How about we make it six times as long as it's as long.
01:47:32
Speaker
Same speed and more roller coasters. More trains, more trains, more roller coasters. I want to ride here and there. Uncle up.
01:47:45
Speaker
That's not, you know what? I'll be looking, I'll be looking forward to more RCC speed runs in the future, uh, to get my fill of, uh, To get my feel of this, because it's it's a great it's really great.
01:47:56
Speaker
It's really absolutely great. And I'm glad that you got to speedrun this and show it to the world. Yeah, had a lot I had a lot of fun. It was a great time. Awesome.
01:48:08
Speaker
Hey! Yeah, you! You've been gaming for six hours straight with no hydration station. You're starting to look like a ghoul from Fallout 4. Go drink some water.
01:48:20
Speaker
Yeah, that's it. That's the whole message. Drink water, you gremlin. Oh, well, with that, we're going to get into our second topic in the day of the day, which is charity gaming events in general.
01:48:31
Speaker
um So you had mentioned that you take part slash run the Legend of Zelda Thon. Yes, it's just Zelda Thon. Okay.
01:48:43
Speaker
Yeah. So I guess I'll start with that. What is Zelda Thon?

Zeldathon and Charity Gaming Events

01:48:46
Speaker
So Zellathon is a charity gaming event ah focusing on The Legend of Zelda games that runs twice a year.
01:48:53
Speaker
ah It's usually within about a month of GDQ. So one in summer, one in winter. um It's starting to like blend with ah the staff of GDQ also. It also has been running about as long as GDQ. Oh, wow. i Wow. so it's it's it's got ah It's got a long history. it started back in 2009.
01:49:15
Speaker
um was the first the the official first Zeldathon, which raised about $300. The was ah twenty nineteen into twenty twenty um this and think we'd just passed the thirtieth Wow. the most recent one The most recent one, this is why i had I wasn't originally planning on going to GDQ because all my time off for the year was going to be for Xelethon Voyage, which happened in June, mid-June.
01:49:45
Speaker
We raised $123,000 for Charity Water. wow holy shit And it's it's got a lot of the ah vibe of GDQ where you're like chilling and joking on couch, which is out the speedruns.
01:50:00
Speaker
We're just playing a Zelda game instead. And we actually do end up with a lot of the same talent from GDQ. Anyone that speedruns a Zelda game, there's a decent chance they've been on GDQ at one point. We've had Gymnast. We've had Pippi.
01:50:13
Speaker
Um... We actually had Scent come out and do a prize read for Xelethon last year. Wow. That was a lot of fun. that That sounds like a lot of fun.
01:50:24
Speaker
Yeah. Like we had Kung Fu Fruit Cup do a a trivia game. ah So there's a lot of overlap with Xelethon and GDQ. It's a really fun time. I do a lot of the tech side for it. I made the overlay for it.
01:50:36
Speaker
I ran like four games. Yeah. At the last elathon, I ran ah link between worlds. Uh, actually a speed run of it. Cause it's a really fun speed run. Uh, I'm not like leaderboard material or anything, but I just enjoy the speed run.
01:50:51
Speaker
um And it's just a good time. It's a lot of people all wanting to do good and wanting to do it in such a way that, you know, everyone enjoys it and everyone has fun.
01:51:02
Speaker
Yeah, i think that's what like makes these charity livestream events like great. it's like It's just people getting together, having fun, and you know people give what they can give. And it turns it turns out that it's a lot more than what we expect sometimes. Yeah.
01:51:18
Speaker
Yeah. i And not to spoil anything, but the the trailer for the next Zollathon is literally dropping tomorrow as we record this. Whoa! That's a game lounge for... Okay, so even though the episode will be is out on the Monday that you're listening to this at the earliest, go check out that trailer then.
01:51:37
Speaker
ah yeah it's I love breaking news like that on this podcast. It's great. It's going to be pretty much over over the new year for like a ah week from like late late late december to early early january that kind of time frame wow which is it always is that's nothing okay uh and yeah something i make i i do prizes surprises for those two i've been getting into 3d printing and for the past six zealothons i printed like a full size majora's mask and painted it for the the theme of the event well oh that's oh that's cool
01:52:12
Speaker
I actually really liked the last one I did because last one was Xelethon Voyage. So Wind Waker themed. oh So I took Majora's Mask and combined it with the King of Red Lions and made like a black, white and gold Majora's Mask with like the horns and the the beard. And think it came out really cool. And that was one of the prizes for the event.
01:52:35
Speaker
that's sick oh my god that's super cool so how long have you been a part of zelda thought uh my first one was zelethon heels in 2019 so i've been doing it for six years now wow wow um yeah i've been doing smaller events before then um There was a Pokรฉthon charity event. I did that one year.
01:52:59
Speaker
I've done some stuff for Kirby. Just did a ah small Lego-based charity event. um how How many charity events do you think you've taken part in? If you if there was like a number to guess.
01:53:12
Speaker
A total number to guess. Let's see. Two GDQs. At least 10 Zeldathons. ah I think I might be approaching 20.
01:53:24
Speaker
20 total events over the past like six years. Nice. And how many of these... Aside from the GDQ, how many of these do you actually like participate in on the showcasing side and not the tech side?
01:53:40
Speaker
i Besides GDQ, I'm almost always on the tech side too. so what what drew yeah What drew you to just being on the tech side of things? like Is it just ah like skills being... like real Real job skills just...
01:53:55
Speaker
working out that way i think that's part of it um i've always just had an interest in technology um like the amount of tech that goes into running these events is mind-blowing yeah yeah yeah I spent a lot of time this last GDQ behind the tech area because I was you know there with Klinket and Zen who were you know on tech almost all the time.
01:54:17
Speaker
So we hung out a bunch and I got to see a lot the stuff back there. a lot of stuff we do at Xelathon is very similar, just on a slightly smaller scale where you have you know two, three server racks running everything. You have massive audio equipment and cables going everywhere. And ah I've just always enjoyed that. I enjoy the the production of it all.
01:54:37
Speaker
um And I also enjoy, you know, chilling on couch, playing games, chatting with people. um So I like being on both sides. And, you know, you know i don't get to do that GDQ right now. i haven't done any tech stuff at GDQ.
01:54:52
Speaker
But especially at Zellathon, I'm like 50-50 half the time. Half time I'm the one pushing the buttons and half the time I'm the one ah on the couch. Nice. that's real that's That's really, really cool. That's super dope. What are like your...
01:55:07
Speaker
What are like your favorite moments that you've had like memory-wise from all of these charity events? like What are your standout moments? A good one. Zeldathon Echoes, which think was 2023 in summer.
01:55:22
Speaker
um we had a ah brand deal with Liquid Death. Oh, I love Liquid Death. They gave us like a massive amount of the stuff. Nice. So it was just everywhere. We're constantly drinking it. I like how we... Oh, referring oh yeah, we got the stuff.
01:55:43
Speaker
To clarify, folks, who people who do not understand the joke of Liquid Death, it's canned water. It is it is canned sparkling water. it sparkling water. Okay, I didn't know it was sparkling.
01:55:55
Speaker
Yeah. it Well, usually it's sparkling. Okay. lot times it's flavored too. Um, it's made to look like, um, like an alcohol can so that if you're out like with people drinking and you don't want to, you could still have like a ah tough looking can of beverage, but you know, not be drinking anything alcoholic.
01:56:11
Speaker
it's It's a very funny guy. I love, I love their branding with all of that. It's it's very, yeah, it's really fun. So we had a ton of this stuff everywhere. Uh, it kind of became a meme. Like everyone always has one in their hand. Oh, go, go grab me a, go grab me a liquid death. It was ah I think it was a ah worthwhile brand deal on their part to give us all that.
01:56:28
Speaker
But a bunch of us were were sitting. I forget exactly what brought it up, but we decided we're all going to crack open a can at the same time into the mics. Oh, yes.
01:56:40
Speaker
It created the most satisfying sound that you could possibly think. that All of them were like... slightly offset so you had kind of a a longer sound super crisp to hear ah and that sound and then like all drinking it together then we had like selfies and it was it was a really good time the sound of that is still in the system today as a sound that could play if you donate yeah years later it lasted Oh, that's sick. I love that. That's awesome. Yeah. I still have the pictures of that event. And it's like, yeah, that was that was a fun time. Everyone was just in super high spirits and we were having we haven fun. That's great.
01:57:22
Speaker
Cause at the end of the day, just having fun at these events is like, just like, I would love to go to a GDQ.

Future Plans and Personal Experiences

01:57:30
Speaker
i never like, especially now that I have like friends, like in the speed running scenes was like, I, I would have people there that I would know.
01:57:40
Speaker
And I'd love to go, but it's just like, it never it's never worked out just because i'm like i ah I work. I have like, yeah my schedule's all sporadic. It's like, but I was going to go to TwitchCon this year. I'm not anymore.
01:57:53
Speaker
ah I was going to go, so I'm like, no, I'm going to save my time off for that. and didn't go to GDQ. I'm thinking like maybe in a year two, maybe next year I'll try to go to GDQ, if not the year after, because I definitely do want to go and finally but meet a majority of the speedrun friends that I've made.
01:58:13
Speaker
ah As a retired Sonic speedrunner myself who ran SA2 for like three months to get a sub hour time um and now just watches speedrunning as a form of enjoyment.
01:58:25
Speaker
uh yeah but would love to go and finally meet the homies and it is a lot of lot of fun there's a lot of people there a lot of people ah like a lot of people i hung out with we're do the zealothons and do all the other stuff and it's like i haven't seen you in like either i haven't seen you since last zealothon three weeks ago i haven't seen you since like two years since you were last at one of them yeah i i feel like it's gotta be cool to just see all those people like that that it just sounds like a great time and then you can also be a rollercoaster nerd like me and ride the 13 rollercoasters within a few miles of GDQ. pd q that too
01:58:59
Speaker
yeah too. And then, you know, the first GDQ you go to where it's like, yeah, I'm going to ride all the rollercoasters nearby. Oh, one of the parks is underwater. Hmm. Yeah.
01:59:12
Speaker
Valley Flare had flooded that week. Oh, yeah. unfortunately that wasn't an option in 2024 it was this year so i have now ridden every roller coaster at valley fair nice how would you how okay ranking those roller coasters uh give me your top five there's only eight oh there's only eight okay well you might as well do all i didn't i didn't know so i'm like i i don't want to okay how would you rank those roller coasters then wild one excalibur uh steel venom renegade
01:59:45
Speaker
What was the next one was going to do? hassh shoot What was after Renegade? ah Maybe Corkscrew, High Roller, and then the Galaxy Coaster, which is the kids' coaster.
01:59:57
Speaker
I think I missed one, but it blocks me that order. All right. Good to know. ah There's the Wild Mouse. The Wild Mouse was not worth it. We waited like half an hour in the blazing sun for that. It was the longest longest wait and absolutely not worth the wait.
02:00:09
Speaker
Good to know. Without the wait, I'm sure it was fine. Yeah, yeah I feel like, yeah. Wait times are definitely cute ah fault falter into that, yeah. it It didn't help that it didn't open until like 3 p.m. So oh my god it's finally open. Let's get in line. So everyone got in line. Yeah, everyone's there. Everybody's waiting the hot sun for that.
02:00:30
Speaker
Yep. oh ah Well, is there anything else? I wrote it. yeah did Yes. Check it up. Check it off the list. I have now my roller coaster credit count is now over 100. Hey, that's nice.
02:00:41
Speaker
That's a that's a that's a great number. ah All with that, is there anything else you want to add about anything that we talked about here earlier? Or are we ready to move on to the bonus level?
02:00:53
Speaker
i Consider watching Zelda-thon if you like Zelda-related games or just general goofy charity shenanigans. Yeah, go check out their new trailer because they'll be out by the time you listen to this.
02:01:05
Speaker
Go i'll do that. Crazy lists, great deals, and recapping gaming history. It's all here in the bonus level. With that, we're going to move on to the bonus level and start closing things out on ah this episode of Tony's Game Lounge. Let's dive into the bonus level.
02:01:22
Speaker
All right. And to kick it off, we've got Game Clash. This is a small little tournament bracket that the guest gets to partake to decide each, to decide the grand winner. And i figured since we're talking RCT, let's talk about one of the other ride categories aside from the roller coasters.
02:01:40
Speaker
And that, ah those are the thrill rides, the Roller Coaster Tycoon 1 thrill rides. ah Are you ready to pick the winners of this bracket? Yes. I'm ready. All right. Starting off. It's also shown up. So the cat's ready to perfect ah match one. The 3D cinema versus the enterprise.
02:02:01
Speaker
Enterprise. I've only ever ridden an enterprise once, but it was really fun. Match to launch free fall versus the motion simulator. Launch free fall for sure. um i love those SNS's.
02:02:13
Speaker
Match three. I'm going nerd about I'm going nerd about flat rides. It's fine. it's great uh the twist versus the top spin twist is a classic the classic scrambler top spin i would enjoy more the top spin top spin takes it uh swing uh match for swinging inverter ship versus the go-karts i'd say inverter ships it's hard to do go-karts right and i haven't seen a like an actual irl park do go-karts right and in terms of the game uh they're fun to build but they don't do much for your park yeah uh semi-finals the enterprise versus the launch free fall
02:02:53
Speaker
Gotta stay with the launch free fall. Alright, and the other semi-final match, the top spin versus the swinging inverter ship.
02:03:02
Speaker
Top spin. Alright, that takes us to grand finals. The launch free fall versus the top spin. Classic SNS launch free fall. Launch free fall takes it.
02:03:14
Speaker
Congratulations to the launch free fall. ah And thanks to Dino for that ah tournament decision making. yeah If you may if you picked roller coasters for that, I'd have been here for like 10 minutes. I'm like, there's too many roller coasters to pick eight.
02:03:30
Speaker
I went with something that was a bit smaller because I think I only had to leave out like one or two thrill rides from the DLCs. I'd like I was like, I can leave out the regular ship because the inverter ship is cooler.
02:03:43
Speaker
We should have done a full tier list of all the RCT roller coasters, of which there's like 200. hundred Yeah. When you get to the expansion packs, there's a lot. There are a lot. Moving on to Tony's game poll. This is our seasonal poll that changes every season. um This is only the second season that we've done this though. ah Dino, what game franchise deserves a new game in 2025 slash 2026 that not been announced yet?
02:06:04
Speaker
that has not been announced yet You would never tell by how much I've talked about Zelda games. Let's get a new Zelda game. um We got Echoes of Wisdom, which felt kind of spin off. It was good.
02:06:17
Speaker
ah But besides that, we've had essentially two Breath of the Wilds in the past 10 years. So something something new there would be fun. Okay.
02:06:27
