Guest Introduction: Azzy Returns

00:00:20
Speaker
Hello, everybody, and welcome back to another brand new episode of Tony's Game Lounge.
00:00:25
Speaker
I am your host, as always, Tony14, and joining us this week, Azzy... usually does around this time of the year which isn't on purpose or anything it's just how things work out he's a ninja he's a frog it's ninja frog oh my gosh thanks for the awesome introduction uh i'm doing yeah i'm i'm glad to be here again it's so awesome just to get to hang out with hang out in the lounge and continue to talk about games i'm excited
00:00:57
Speaker
i like I'm excited to Ninja Frog. it's It's always, you know, I don't know how it always happens that it's middle of the year, July, August time of year, and we usually have you on like halfway through the year. And, you know, it's good to have you back.
00:01:13
Speaker
Yeah. ah Well, because we've already done your loading screen and hot takes in prior seasons, which you can go check out in our extensive library with almost 200 episodes.
00:01:26
Speaker
Oh my gosh. Yeah, we're getting close. I think it's not going to be for another like two seasons that we hit it, but we're getting closer every time.

Ghost of Yotei Showcase

00:01:35
Speaker
um But we're going to jump right into our headline of the week.
00:01:40
Speaker
And there were two showcases that I could have picked from, and I picked the more interesting one, which was the Ghost of Yotei showcase. ah We'll be getting to the Pokemon showcase in our week in review segment.
00:01:54
Speaker
um But Ghost of Yotei had a nice little 20-minute showcase to show off a couple things that they're doing differently than they did in Ghost of Tsushima.
00:02:05
Speaker
um So the general plot, they kind of gave that away, which isn't a big deal. It's another tale of revenge. um Just like how in Ghost of Tsushima, you're getting revenge for ah the Mongols coming and basically slaughtering the samurai.
00:02:23
Speaker
ah This time you're after the ah group known as the Yotei Six who kills your family. And so you're hunting them down to kill them all.
00:02:35
Speaker
um The game uses what they're calling the clue system, which basically you talk to people, you go places, you'll unlock more clues for story progress and side quests and other things along your trip.
00:02:53
Speaker
ah There are bounty boards where you can where you can get bounties and hunt the people who are on there and duel them. um Golden birds are returning as pathfinders. So like if you see a golden bird flying around, you follow it, you'll find a hidden area like the bamboo shoots or a hot springs or some other little like side collectible area.
00:03:15
Speaker
ah you can You can also buy maps in the game to find these locations as well. You can use your spyglass to mark interesting landscapes you see in the distance.
00:03:27
Speaker
um And then they went right into the combat stuff. ah So you can interchange your weapon. And there's like six of them that you can choose between them.
00:03:38
Speaker
You got your regular Katana, your spear, sarah the Seragama, the Odachi, and dual dual swords, twin blades, ah to choose between for your main weapon.
00:03:50
Speaker
And you can change them on the fly. I don't know if there's a limit to many you carry, if it's like two or three, and then you just find your style that you like, or if it's just two or something like that. But it looks really cool.
00:04:01
Speaker
um The way they showed it off was really cool and whatnot. And then there's also ranged weapons as well. ah The bow obviously making its return, but now you get ah gun um more, more like a big musket gun, not really like a, a handgun pistol is like a long range rifle.
00:04:22
Speaker
um You also get kunai and bombs for like tools and stuff as well. um You can disarm enemies if you hit them just right, but they can also disarm you if you're not careful.
00:04:36
Speaker
um they also said that you're gonna get an a wolf ally in the game uh and looking at some of the other footage it looks like you could also get a bear ally uh which i mean who doesn't love animal companions oh my gosh dude just walk it up swinging your sword shooting your gun and all of a sudden im a bear over all the quarter Yeah, it's great.
00:05:04
Speaker
um Camping is... They're making camping a core mechanic in the game. There's going to cooking mini game, but also ah shops um and upgrades and, like, your allies will come to you when you're camping um to help progress their storylines and the upgrade trees and all of those.
00:05:22
Speaker
um They're doing away with the classic journal system of, like, like what you need to do to progress the person next. And instead they're going to like a character system in the menu to track when the next steps for that character's quest line can continue.
00:05:39
Speaker
It looks interesting. um It's a bit different, but it's not like terribly different. uh they're making builds it's like specific builds feel like they matter uh and there's good a lot of gear and weapon customization on both like design and all the weapon types uh photo mode obviously because every game has photo mode now for all those sick youtube thumbnails And then ah samurai cinema mode will be returning with this time, not just one, but three different modes.
00:06:15
Speaker
So first is the return of Akira Kurosawa. These are these old, the old black and white gritty samurai style films. um That's what it they had in Tsushima.
00:06:26
Speaker
That's returning for Yotei. The two new modes. First up, there's Miike mode. Miike, the director of 13 Assassins, if you've seen that samurai film at all. It's...
00:06:38
Speaker
that is So the filters and stuff are aligned more with that style. And then the third one for you anime fans out there, Shinichiro Watanabe mode, AKA Lo-Fi Beat Samurai.
00:06:54
Speaker
It's the Samurai Champloo mode. Yes, they are making a mode. Like that's the coolest one yet by far. ah So that's really cool.
00:07:06
Speaker
ah There will be a limited Ghost of Yotei PS5 and controller releasing the same day the game releases October 2nd. And that was everything that they showed off in the showcase. And honestly, I am very excited for Yotei. I am very excited for it.
00:07:22
Speaker
Yeah, ah I still unfortunately haven't had a chance to play through the first one. um Mostly because hardware. Yeah, well, I mean, it's on PS4.
00:07:35
Speaker
Yeah, but I also never own PlayStation. It is on PC now, though. Tsushima is on PC, though. I do, yeah. that my I share games with my brother on Steam, so he just got it recently. So I'll have to download it and play it soon.
00:07:52
Speaker
Because he's been playing through it. Yeah. ah I mean, i was ah excited about the first one and glad to hear that they're deciding to make a new one. um ah Interesting. Is it is this Champloo mode like a top down thing?
00:08:08
Speaker
No, no, no. So I don't know if you've ever seen the anime Samurai Champloo. No. it's Check it out because it's very much a bit more just like lo-fi samurai. That's how I would describe it.
00:08:24
Speaker
Okay. Yeah. ah So, yeah, it's very, very cool. um Definitely worth a check out. And, yeah, i think we I think if the game does well, I think it will be the fourth game to solidify Game of the Year nomination.
00:08:46
Speaker
And then it's just the other two are going to be like, okay, so right now I'll preface this right now. I think that there are three games that we are definitely going to see nominated for game of the year.
00:08:57
Speaker
And that is expedition 33 death stranding two and donkey Kong Bonanza. I think those three are a shoe in for a nomination. The fourth one that I think will be a shoe in if it does well, which I think it will with everything we've seen so far is ghost of Yotei.
00:09:15
Speaker
The other two, one of them i think will be a shoe-in for Game of the Year if it actually comes out this year, like people are saying, and that's Hollow Knight Silksong. okay And then the last nomination, it's up in the

Game of the Year Speculations

00:09:30
Speaker
air of what it could be. It could be Split Fiction.
00:09:32
Speaker
It might be Kingdom Come Deliverance 2. It might be something else for all I even know. oh wait, did that come out this year? so last sha king the deliverance country it came out early this year.
00:09:45
Speaker
Okay, and yeah, I mean, like i don't know. i just, I think it did seem like it was incredible, but I just don't know if it got enough, like, attention for it to be... Like, it it could it could definitely be, like, Game of the Year, like, worthy, but I don't know if it's going to get enough attention for it to be, like, on the Game of the Year. Yeah. Does that make sense? so it's It's very...
00:10:09
Speaker
It's very up in the air right now. i think that real Realistically, I think there's two slots that they that they need to fill right now. It's going to come down to if Silksong does come out, then it's only one slot they really need to fill in.
00:10:23
Speaker
Because there's no way you delay Silksong this long and it's a bad game. Honestly, my assumption is Death Stranding 2 Expedition 33.
00:10:34
Speaker
Something that's a well-rounded game that a lot of people are into. i I personally think it's going to go to Expedition 33. But again, the games that are coming out this year are absolutely top quality.
00:10:46
Speaker
um And we'll talk about more Bonanza, actually, a little bit later on in the episode. But before we get there, we have a whole bunch of headlines we gotta get through. Here's what happened the past two weeks in the Week in Review.
00:11:02
Speaker
Recapping the major stories of video games and the world of tabletop, looking over recent releases and reports from the Game Lounge crew, it's the Week in Review. And starting off with some of the major releases, ah you had Grounded 2, Donkey Kong Bonanza, Shadow Labyrinth, Monument Valley 3, No Sleep for Kaname Date from ai The Somnium Files, and Wu-Chang Volant Feathers.
00:11:28
Speaker
um Those are some of the games that came out. As for video game news, starting off, Pokemon Presents on July twenty second Now, I don't say this much about the Pokemon Presents, but genuinely, they could have just posted this on Twitter.
00:11:49
Speaker
And I think we would have been fine. ah This was very much the most meh present in a long while.
00:12:04
Speaker
So to kick it off, they opened up with a a promo for the 2025 Pokemon World Championships. And everybody who participates, um like everyone who's competing, will be receiving a special TCG promo card called Paradise Resort.
00:12:20
Speaker
um And then they got into two of their TV series. Starting off, new episodes of Pokemon Concierge will start September 4th, which is very exciting. The new episodes look, again, this show just looks really, really good.
00:12:35
Speaker
ah From the art style to everything about it. It's just a really cool looking show. um But then they announced a brand new stop motion series with the studio that gives us Wallace and Gromit.
00:12:51
Speaker
And this new series is called the Misadventures of Sir Fetched and Pichu. And this is coming out in 2027. And the all the trailer was, was you see Pichu and Sir Fetched running around the background while a Wulu just grazes on some grass.
00:13:06
Speaker
And it was absolutely perfect. Yeah, i'm I'm excited for that one. I'm a big fan. I really liked Pokemon ah Concierge. I think it's a really comfy show. like If you like Pokemon and you kind of want some comfy, like it's it's It's simple. like It's not super extravagant. like i mean Most Pokemon shows aren't.
00:13:28
Speaker
I think it's quality. i love the art style. so I'm excited for coming out and having another um season. but yeah but The stop motion, oh my gosh. like It's making me think of like they're going to just making something really focused on the Pokemon. It's making me think of that.
00:13:43
Speaker
There was one... ah older episode of the one of the first seasons of Pokemon where they they're focused on the Pokemon they' and them interacting. and it's just that can be just so They could do so much with that.
00:13:55
Speaker
They can. yeah so it's It's great to see that again. ah Then ah they announced a big thing. A big thing that's ah coming next year. It's called PokePark Kanto. Before you get your hopes up, this isn't a new game entry in the PokePark series.
00:14:12
Speaker
This is a that Pokemon's first permanent outdoor attraction. It's a theme park. It's made up of two areas, Sedge Town and the Pokemon Forest.
00:14:24
Speaker
um It seems to be more like um like a walking exhibit, more or less, where the forest is. You walk around this forest and you'll find wild Pokemon it there, but it's more like Pokemon like exhibits that you'll find.
00:14:39
Speaker
um And then this town is made up of like things that you would find in a regular Pokemon town. ah So the PokeShop, Pokemon Center, and a couple other things. um The grand opening is planned for early 2026, and we don't really know what else to expect from it. So hopefully they'll give more details about it soon um as well, because I'd be interested.
00:14:59
Speaker
And it's opening in Japan, obviously. Heads the name Pokepark Kanto. Then we got into our mobile game news. ah Kicking it off, Pokemon Go teased Go Fest Max Finale, which is Eternatus' Eternatus and his its first appearance in Pokemon Go.
00:15:21
Speaker
Pokemon Masters EX teased Carbine and Sinistra coming into the game. Pokemon Cafe Remix is putting Lapras in a Sea Captain outfit and some new sea and pirate decor for your cafe.
00:15:35
Speaker
Pokemon Sleep announced that the Johto Beasts will be coming September 2025 and a new canyon area in November. Pokemon Unite is adding Latios and Latias for four years of the game, but adding a new mode called Electrode Volleyball and tease the Pawmott line um coming into the game later on as well.
00:15:58
Speaker
With the TCG, they finally announced the Mega Cards and showed off some of the first artwork for the brand new Mega Pokémon, and Mega Evolution set will be released September 26.
00:16:10
Speaker
And then they rounded out the mobile game by announcing a brand new mobile game but called Pokémon Friends. This is a puzzle game that's both available on mobile devices and Nintendo Switch systems.
00:16:24
Speaker
ah You can basically solve daily puzzles and yeah make a plushie with the yarn you get to put it in your plush room. um The game is out now. It is free to download, but there is DLC one-time purchases that you can ah purchase to get either no limit on your puzzles or additional sets of puzzles to do.
00:16:47
Speaker
um And that was everything in the mobile department. I have been playing Pokemon Friends for the past couple of days. it's it's It's not bad. It's a simple puzzle game. It's nothing too crazy, honestly. It's yeah it's a nice five-minute time killer, realistically.
00:17:07
Speaker
you like you're You're on there like five minutes a day, and you can log off, and that's it. like Yeah. ah just it It's I don't know. It just it it screams like a tempting Webkinz-esque
00:17:26
Speaker
app with Pokemon, but like like barely trying. yeah i don't know why. It just... I don't know. Maybe there's just more to it. It it just seems very lackluster.
00:17:40
Speaker
like like I feel like they could do so much with just like making plushies and then like I don't know if there's like some lost patent or something around that. You just solve puzzles, you get yarn, and you put the yarn in the machine, and then there's a chance it'll give you a certain Pokemon and that's it.

Pokemon Terra Raid Events

00:17:58
Speaker
Yeah, I mean, simple enough. I mean, whatever. Very simple. ah Then they talked about Scarlet and Violet. ah Briefly talked about the Switch 2 update. And then they announced the brand new Terra Raid events, the Shiny Treasures of Ruin.
00:18:15
Speaker
ah Which means that the four legendaries of Scarlet and Violet, Wo Chien, Chien Pao, Ting Lu, and Chiyu, are finally no longer shiny locked. um However...
00:18:28
Speaker
The caveat is you're only able to add each one of them to your team after each one has been defeated 1 million times.
00:18:42
Speaker
This is also global, right? It is global. Yes, it is global, ah but it's still like Jesus Pokemon. Why? Yeah. Yeah. um they are doing them spaced out. ah Each one has a two-week period, so Wo Chien will be available from the 23rd of July to August 3rd.
00:19:01
Speaker
Chien Pao from August 4th to 17th. Ting Lu to August 18th to 31st. And Chi Yu September 1st 14th. ah How long can they extend content for Scarlet and Violet until they get Pokemon Legends DA out? So then they can extend how long they wait to then give us another announcement. and yeah Yeah, that is basically it.
00:19:28
Speaker
And then we finally got news for Pokemon champions and details. So Pokemon Champions does allow you to link your home account, or if you don't have one, you can use Rental Pokemon. Hey, it's called the Recruit feature this time around, though, um but it's nice to see the rentals coming back.
00:19:46
Speaker
um There are ranked matches and private matches in both single and doubles, and yeah you can do training in-game. When I say training, you can teach them. i mean You've got Move Tutors, you've got EV training, IV training, nature training,
00:20:04
Speaker
Like, you're able to make your Pokemon optimal. ah Which is really, really cool. ah And it seems to me that this will probably be going forward the way that they do competitive VGC.
00:20:18
Speaker
It wouldn't surprise me. ah The game is set to come out next year. And then... Legend ZA. The big thing people were waiting for.
00:20:31
Speaker
um Details. Probably some Megas and stuff. Well, we got a little bit. so Just a little bit.
00:20:42
Speaker
ah So we got a bit more story. ah We are a part of Team MZ to protect Lumiose City. We also get to meet two more NPC characters, Naveen and Lita, who are fellow MZ members.
00:20:56
Speaker
um Again, we catch and explore Lumiose, catch Pokemon and explore Lumiose City by day, and we participate in the ZA Royale at night. We also got to meet Corbo of the Rust Syndicate,
00:21:09
Speaker
ah who seems to be um i probably possibly one of the villains that we have to encounter. ah He looks interesting.
00:21:20
Speaker
ah I saw a TikTok recently that people are saying that he resembles Pheasant Dippity a bit.
00:21:28
Speaker
And like, interesting. So I wonder if that means we'll have two other like lead villains that represent Oogie Doogie and Monkey Dory as well.
00:21:40
Speaker
So it'll be interesting to see what that comes of. um There's going trainer customization. Furfru Styling is coming back with Furfru in the game. And then we got to see two returning characters from Pokemon X and Y.
00:21:55
Speaker
The first is Emma, ah who was part of the Pokemon X and Y post game. ah For those who remember, she was the one who was under mind control when you were doing that side story with Looker.
00:22:09
Speaker
ah Well, she's now a detective. And Mabel, one of the former Team Flare members, is now the active director of the research lab.
00:22:20
Speaker
So two returning characters just like that, which is great. um Then they showed off what is essentially is the raid mechanic of the game, which is wild Pokemon rogue mega evolving. And those are it's just fighting some mega evolved Pokemon, which is really cool.
00:22:36
Speaker
And then they revealed the one and only one mega evolution. Mega Dragonite, which I'm not mad with the design. It's a cool design. it's all it's It is what it is. I've never been a big Dragonite fan, but it's a cool design.
00:22:55
Speaker
But they only showed the one. It's the only thing new detail that people really cared about. Game releases October 16th. They did confirm an early purchase bonus.
00:23:06
Speaker
You can get a Ralts Holding Gardevoirite. You can claim that until February 28th, 2026. And you can also get 100 Pokeballs as well ah for that around that same date.
00:23:19
Speaker
um And then on Twitter, Nintendo and Pokemon announced that Legends EA will be receiving a Switch 2 bundle um also releasing on October sixteen
00:23:31
Speaker
And that was the Pokemon Presents. What are your thoughts on that, Ninja Frog? ah Yeah, okay, so...
00:23:40
Speaker
There's a lot of this I don't super keep up with. I mean, I touched on the Pokemon Concierge and the motion picture. Like, I'm i'm excited about that. Hell yeah. um Glad to see.
00:23:51
Speaker
don't play much mobile stuff. I'm not, because it just eats up your time, you know? But i um I love that they're still keeping up. Like, Pokemon Go, it's awesome that they're still kind of, like, doing stuff with it. It's cool that they can still have events across. Yeah.
00:24:09
Speaker
everywhere um and then the other apps are still keeping on um i'm yeah i've kind of said stuff on the the the new app it feels weird i don't know i i like that it's a simple app but i also just looking at it it just really seemed like it they didn't really try and they're just trying to get another dollar like just bothers me it's free to play though Yeah, that's that's true.
00:24:35
Speaker
That's true. It's free to play, and it's like, unlike with Pokemon Pocket, where it's like, oh, hey, if you buy the pass, you'll get extra. It's just like, you can buy the DLC for extra stuff if you want, but you do not have to, because you won't miss out on anything. in the um Okay, well, I mean, that's that's fair enough.
00:24:55
Speaker
And also, the DLC, I will say, though, the DLC prices for friends, Pokemon friends, is like, 10 or more dollars per DLC.
00:25:05
Speaker
Oh! Like, a bundle to get all three DLC currently is $54 Canadian. What? Or sorry, $54 wow Oh, that's almost a full video game. Yes, but however, in do in buying that, you get unlimited puzzles per day.
00:25:26
Speaker
um And you get extra puzzles and stuff. And it's like, if you want to make it your life, you can. yeah And it's like, it's more it's but is it worth that price?
00:25:37
Speaker
Maybe to someone it is, but don't I'm sure there's somebody. There's somebody that loves plushies, especially Pokemon plushies, that would love that. Exactly. um Okay. ah The Terror Raid touched on like a million times is wild, but yeah, they're definitely just extending the the content.
00:26:00
Speaker
ah Pokemon Champions, listening to you talk about it, I'm excited. However, speaking of mobile content and mobile payments. Yeah, because Pokemon Champions is going to be on mobile devices too I am a little worried with certain features like the tutors, the EV training, recruiting. Like I saw that currency.
00:26:23
Speaker
Yes. yeah I was about to bring that up. i Is a currency. It looks like that you do use how you get said currency. We don't know. you get it. Now I'm wondering, it's like, if you link home, depending on like how many Pokemon you have at home, does that give you currencies? Cause if it does, I think a lot more people will be more,
00:26:41
Speaker
inclined, inclined, um, persuaded to link their home to get that, ah like a whole shit ton of currency for themselves. And if battling gives you currency, great.
00:26:54
Speaker
And there's probably going to be microtransactions to get more currency too. But that is just at that point, it becomes pay to win. Yeah. ah i might Well, unless you have Pokemon Home and you just have a bunch of Pokemon already back then. Well, yeah, but still, it's like, let's say you have Pokemon Home, but let's say the currency thing doesn't tie with, like, your home getting linked or whatever, and it's like, ah you still gotta, if you want it's like, you have this weak-ass I don't know what's like popular VGC right now. Weak ass lander or whatever. Like it's not awful IV wrong nature. No EVs wrong level bad moves and you only get x amount of currency.
00:27:36
Speaker
So you're able to do a little bit of things that you can buy more currency to make the lander is broken. At that point, it's just pay to win. So I think Pokemon needs to be extra careful with this and just keep the keep that currency away. Like, only get it if you do battles, essentially.
00:27:58
Speaker
if they If they go on the side of, like, I i haven't been playing ah Pokemon Pocket, TCG Pocket. Yeah, i i have now retired as well from Pocket.
00:28:12
Speaker
Is that what it's called? The deck... Yeah, the TCG one. yeah okay That was like the most recent one? Yeah. okay so like i I like it a lot.
00:28:23
Speaker
I like how it plays. You can get cards very easily and you can just keep playing. And if you just keep playing, you can get stuff pretty easily without spending money. There is kind of a barrier at some point, but you can get a decent amount if you just focus on that and just keep grinding and...
00:28:41
Speaker
get the the new events that come out, whatever. So if they keep doing something similar to that, where it's free, but you're able to get stuff as a free person, but then there's some sort of like, oh, you can get ahead a little bit in microtransactions, and it's not too controlled, I think it's going to do well, because they have to do that, because this game is going to get so much attention, because there's so many people that i like Pokemon and like battling.
00:29:06
Speaker
They have to. Otherwise, it's going to get destroyed. It's going to get destroyed in whatever the next Manlight Pokemon game is. Some people will just migrate back over to that. Yeah.
00:29:16
Speaker
Exactly. So, but my hopes, especially if you're saying that they're going to be doing the competitive stuff around that, it has to be something simpler.
00:29:28
Speaker
It makes sense that like you finally just make one dedicated game to for your for VGC. it uses the entire It uses the format,
00:29:39
Speaker
in both singles and doubles. You can make updates to the game to add, because we know that there's going to be terrestrializing and mega evolving off the bat. You can add updates to bring in Z-moves back and Gigantamax.
00:29:56
Speaker
And think that's all the gimmicks I've hit there. ah You can add AAA rotation battles if you want it just for fun. Yeah, yeah. That's true. and yeah They have so much they can do with it. yeah There's a lot they can do with it.
00:30:12
Speaker
There's a lot of hope for this game. And this could be I'm not going to say the Pokemon showdown killer because obvious, like obviously showdown doesn't require you to spend money to make your teams and shit.
00:30:25
Speaker
Uh, but it could definitely see things going that way to people migrating over to this a little bit more um I'm excited about it.
00:30:36
Speaker
um And then ZA, whatever. like i i don't i'm like i'm kind I'm convinced. like i don't I loved Arceus in seeing something. They're transitioning it a little bit, but it still looks interesting. like They're doing a new... like it's It's Pokemon. It's related to Nintendo. They got to do something a little bit new. like right So they're they're doing it more battle-focused. I think it looks fun.
00:30:59
Speaker
I'm convinced. ah So I'm not. Whatever. But like the Mega Dragonite. I wish we saw more Megas. That's all I'm saying. Just more than the one.
00:31:12
Speaker
You put a whole Pokemon present. People expect a little more than just a single Pokemon. mega for a game that's gonna bring us megas especially one that's just like a little like i i kind of like it but it's it still feels like okay we took something from this pokemon this evolution that was it which was that was it it was like oh hope okay
00:31:44
Speaker
I mean, look it's not a look, I'm not hating on the design. I'm just like it's like, it's just all right. It's just all right for me. Yeah, exactly. yeah so October 16th, folks. probably I don't know if we'll see any more details before then.
00:31:58
Speaker
But if we if we do, I'll keep you updated here in the Game Lounge. ah continuing on with more headlines starting off the stapler that damaged the Nintendo switch twos on released which was auctioned off for a charity auction for the children's miracle network well we finally figured out how much it raised that stapler raised on auction $250,000 two hundred fifty thousand dollars
00:32:25
Speaker
So, ah you know what? Great auction item. ah good It's great for the Children's Miracle Network Hospitals. ah You'll love to see that. That's insane. ah In Apple news, Apple released a new emoji puzzle game called Emoji Game.
00:32:44
Speaker
This game has players fill in incomplete phrases by dragging emojis into blank spots. And it was developed by Apple.
00:32:54
Speaker
Yep. That's a game. It's a game. ah In NSFW news, ah things are changing for prospective games with sexual content on Steam and other platforms based on a confluence of recent incidents involving rules, payment processors, and game takedowns.
00:33:17
Speaker
Basically, from what I've gathered on this, like credit card companies... and And there's some so some things there's a somebody is a group going around, basically Steam, itch.io, and a whole bunch of other places. If you have like any sort of not safe for work, like nudity or shit like that, your game's getting taken down.
00:33:39
Speaker
Which, I mean, to be fair, there's a lot of NSFW slop on Steam. So, like, it's kind of cleaning it out a bit, which I'm not mad with. But it's like, this is interesting that it's happening now. And there will be probably more details um released on this in the coming weeks. So we'll keep you updated with this to see what actually happens or if these games come back or whatnot.
00:34:00
Speaker
ah Speaking of games going away forever, ah John Wick Hex has been removed from all platforms, um like ah for sale, for sale. So you can't buy the game anymore. If you have the game, it's still in your library, but you can no longer purchase it.
00:34:15
Speaker
ah Big Fan Games' statement didn't detail the reason for the game's impending removal, but given the fact the publisher is mainly known for publishing licensed games, it's very possible that the publisher's license to use the John Wick IP has expired and not been renewed.
00:34:34
Speaker
um So well hopefully they'll have more of a statement later. Otherwise, we're just going to be guessing why it was taken off. In food news, Grand Theft Auto is getting an unofficial cookbook ah this October.
00:34:50
Speaker
It's being written by Jared Melendez, who also penned the cookbooks based on Persona and Borderlands franchises. The unofficial Grand Theft Auto cookbook, Street Eats and Luxe Treats, imagines what dishes might be served at the many restaurants and bars where players can commit crimes and cause mayhem, including...
00:35:09
Speaker
clucking bell which means even though it is unofficial it's still somewhat more official of we us to make big smokes order by scratch two number nines a number nine large a number six with extra dip two number sevens a number seven, two number one with cheese, and a large soda.
00:35:42
Speaker
yeah ah Also, speaking of Grand Theft Auto, GTA V is now legal in Saudi Arabia after 12 years. ah So congrats, Saudi Arabia, as you can finally play the game.
00:35:56
Speaker
ah And also in Rockstar news, Rockstar support pages for Red Dead Redemption 2 and Grand Theft Auto 4 may have let the cat out of the bag on a current-gen re-release of RDR2, as well as a PS4, Xbox One last-gen release of Grand Theft Auto 4.
00:36:16
Speaker
Which would be interesting to see.
00:36:19
Speaker
Uh, in simulation news, Two Point Museum's first DLC, Fantasy Finds, is adding a brand new fantasy-filled map to the game full of fantasy items for your museum, and a brand new scenario map for campaign mode.

00:36:57
Speaker
although it's un but Although I don't know if they made Joker Kazumi because it is royal. um So we'll just have to yeah just have to play the mod to see. Because obviously there can't be two Kazumis.
00:37:12
Speaker
ah In horror game news, Clive Barker's Hellraiser is getting its first ever video game, Hellraiser Revival. This will be a brand new first person horror game with no release date as of yet.
00:37:28
Speaker
In Ready or Not news, Ready or Not has sold 1 million units on console. 10 times faster than what they achieved on PC.
00:37:39
Speaker
Which is nuts that that actually happened after the community was bitching and complaining about the censorship they made so they could put the game on console with an appropriate M rating.
00:37:50
Speaker
ah And well, because of that censorship, the game sold million units already. ah congrats to the Congrats to the devs. yeah In movie news, Five Nights at Freddy's 2 got first movie trailer and it'll be coming to theaters December 5th.
00:38:06
Speaker
In the trailer, we get to see the likes of Mangle, Balloon Boy, the toy animatronics, the withered animatronics, and the return of a certain man purple man in a yellow rabbit suit.
00:38:20
Speaker
Lego has revealed a Game Boy model set, and it's good currently priced at $60 USD when it does come out. ah in kind kind of irony news, Splitgate 2 is being unlaunched and going back to its beta.
00:38:41
Speaker
This is three months after the initial release of the game. so The cherry on top is Splitgate 1 is being shut down next month as well because the studio is facing layoffs, about 50 people, I believe.
00:38:57
Speaker
ah And this is after, if you remember at Summer Game Fest, where the developers split game came out it with a hat on saying, make shooters great again. And then, you know, is like and then basically pulled the, we play nothing but rock radio meme.
00:39:14
Speaker
And then they played Imagine Dragons while announcing a battle royale mode. ah This is fucking hilarious.
00:39:23
Speaker
I'm sorry to those who of you who have been enjoying Splitgate 2, but this is fucking funny. And legit, I don't know if we're going to see Splitgate 2 ever out of this beta, or if it's just going to shut down because of this.
00:39:37
Speaker
Not going to lie. Gosh, dude. I like i wish we didn't have to have and stuff like this happen. It's like giving me like almost like Concord flashbacks.
00:39:52
Speaker
Yeah. This is unfortunate. ah little bit. and Assassin's Creed news. a Assassin's Creed shadows will be getting an update July 29th to increase the game's level cap, adding a new game plus mode and new achievements.
00:40:06
Speaker
They also dropped their roadmap to have updates planned for early September and September 16th for their brand new expansion.

Tribute to Ozzy Osbourne

00:40:15
Speaker
ah In EA news, Battlefield 6 has dropped its reveal trailer. They have a multiplayer showcase set for July 31st, but a brand new dice shooter, Battlefield 6, is coming.
00:40:32
Speaker
I don't know when, but soon. ah in pricing news, Microsoft and Obsidian Entertainment are slashing the price of The Outer Worlds 2 ahead of the game's October launch.
00:40:45
Speaker
Previously, the game was set at $80 US, but now it's going to retail for $70 US. So good on you for not giving it to corporate greed entirely.
00:40:57
Speaker
And lastly, in video game news, to honor um the legend Ozzy Osbourne passing away, Brutal Legend was free to download on itch.io for 666 minutes.
00:41:12
Speaker
It's pretty goofy, but it's a pretty sick deal. Sadly, that deal is no longer available because those 666 minutes have passed, unfortunately. But still really cool to see that.
00:41:28
Speaker
um Rock on, Ozzy. Legend. ah Moving on to our ongoing game news, starting off with FF14, we had live letter from the producer. Live letter number 88. 7.3, the promise of tomorrow, the finale of Dawn Trail.
00:41:46
Speaker
Here's everything that's coming August 5th. yeah ah Starting off, we have a new MSQ missions and a new dungeon, the Meso Terminal. We have a brand new trial, which we still don't know the name of because they're not spoiling and you anything about that yet.

00:42:15
Speaker
We got to see a little bit of gameplay. um And the Orchestrian Roles that will drop will now drop depending on the boss coffer they are from. You'll get three of them from bosses two and three and six from the final boss. And they also showed off the new glam sets for it as well.
00:42:33
Speaker
The new Crystalline Conflict Arena, the Bayside Battleground, will be coming, as well as the next PvP Series rewards. New trophy crystal items to exchange. New Omega and Ultima ranks for the ranked mode.
00:42:45
Speaker
You can now queue with two people for casual Crystalline Conflict matches. The Purify Recast timer is changing, and the MP price for it is going up. And there are going to be other PvP class adjustments as well, as well as new casual glams you can get with trophy crystals.
00:43:03
Speaker
The new treasure dungeon, Vault 1 Iron, will be coming. The gimmick is that you spin slots, and depending on the spin determines on what you fight. And the two new big glams you can get from this are a tuxedo and a dress.
00:43:16
Speaker
The new Unreal is the Wreath of Snakes. The chat bubble feature is finally getting added. It's defaulted off, but you can turn it on. Chat will still appear in um while in the game log, but also above the character who is saying it.
00:43:30
Speaker
um It will not be in battle or PvP content, just overworld content. There'll be more headwear for Hrothgar and Vieira, and you can turn on the ears sticking through the headpieces for Vieira.

Duty support is coming for Cutter's Cry, and we're getting new crafted gear as well. um And then, it's when 7.31 drops, we'll be getting the new Cosmic Exploration for Faena and the new Phantom Weapon Enhancement Quest, which, by the sound of it, it might be tomes, but we're not sure yet.
00:44:04
Speaker
And then 7.35, we will be finally be getting the brand new deep dungeon Pilgrim's Traverse, um which they quote is a deep dungeon for everyone.
00:44:17
Speaker
End quote. ah Your requirements are to clear the first 50 floors Palace of the Dead and finish Endwalker. The deep dungeon is 100 floors. um Because it's in the Shadowbringers world, Sin Eaters can appear as bosses.
00:44:29
Speaker
um The initial quest for it will clear when you clear floor 30. um And unlike some of the previous ones, there's actually multiple checkpoints where if you get a party wipe, um you'll be able to go back to these floors.
00:44:42
Speaker
Floor 1, 21, 31, 51, and 71 your checkpoints. thirty one fifty one and seventy one are your checkpoints When you reach the Floor 99 boss, that will unlock as its own instance to practice if you do get there and you wipe.
00:44:57
Speaker
And then you can queue it queue for it freely to practice. um The rewards drop. And then there's the Final Verse, which unlocks after beating Floor 99 and then can be queued for freely. This is its own separate thing.
00:45:13
Speaker
And rewards drop from that through RNG. And then there's the final verse, Quantum, which is the hard mode version of the fight where you can give offerings to modify the boss in various ways.
00:45:24
Speaker
ah you If you beat the boss, the offerings are then accepted and you get rewards. But if you don't beat the boss, the offerings are given back to you. And if you clear it with 40 offerings, you'll get a title.
00:45:37
Speaker
Also in 7.35, you will get a the new Yakui Allied Society and inconceivably further Hilda Brain Adventures. um We then then showed off a couple of the mounts, a rainbow leaf man, a tree monster that was shown in the deep dungeon, ah chandelier mount, a hoverboard that we'll be getting with cosmic exploration, and the yan slash the yam.
00:46:01
Speaker
I couldn't hear what... ah I watched Mioni's recaps. I wasn't sure what he said there. It's basically this little ram where if you've been doing the savage fights for Arcadian recently, it's one of the things I could spot is apparently the bane of people's existence.
00:46:17
Speaker
um They also showed off two minions, a Sin Eater Beaver, which is just a really white a white beaver. And Theo Ull, your fairy companion from Shadowbringers, you can finally get as a minion as well.
00:46:30
Speaker
ah They did say that there's a Criterion dungeon being worked on for 7.4 by the sounds of it, which is cool. And then some system updates, housing updates still in the works.
00:46:41
Speaker
Most likely 7.4, 7.5, we'll see Phoenix Downs are getting more uses. There's going a cast bar added to boss enemies so you can see who's casting what.
00:46:52
Speaker
G-Pose Portrait Mode is getting a... Oh, G-Pose is getting a Portrait Mode and a whole bunch of other updates. Domen Mahjong is getting new voices added that you can purchase at the Gold Saucer, specifically of the Dawn Trail cast.
00:47:07
Speaker
And the character display range is getting an increase. And that was everything that they talked about in like the four-hour show.
00:47:15
Speaker
Moving on to Fortnite and Epic Games. ah Two more cheaters were caught in Fortnite. ah Quote, we took legal action against two people who cheated and broke our rules, Epic said in a statement.
00:47:28
Speaker
One sold and used cheats and the other carried out cyber attacks on content creators who were live streaming gameplay, aka DDoS attacks. Both have been ordered to stop these activities and are banned from playing Fortnite.
00:47:41
Speaker
If you break the rules, there are consequences. Both of the two cheaters were also forced to post their apologies to YouTube as part of the lawsuit, which is kind of based that Epic made them do that.
00:47:56
Speaker
In milk news, Dairy Max, an organization that represents some 700 dairy farmers, would like kids to drink more milk. So they've sponsored a Fortnite creative level.
00:48:10
Speaker
ah Diner Tycoon is what the level is called. It's a custom game mode inside a Fortnite that was made as part of Dairy Max's level unlocked digital initiative. A plan designed by Dairy Max to connect you with the power of dairy in a way that fits their modern lifestyle.
00:48:26
Speaker
Basically, it's a restaurant sim, ah diner sim tycoon, and it's just sponsored by Milk.
00:48:35
Speaker
but Would you ever want to be sponsored by Milk and Ninja Frog? I mean, I'm down. I like milk. Fair enough. In TCG news, ah po starting with Pokemon Black Bolt and White Flare is out now, and the Mega Evolution set comes out September 26th.

00:50:36
Speaker
And that was everything that happened in the last two weeks. ah Any thoughts on any of the stories there, NinjaFrog? ah
00:50:49
Speaker
That's a lot. ah Oh my gosh. Wow. Um, the, the Fortnite taken legal thing is interesting.
00:51:04
Speaker
ah ah
00:51:09
Speaker
yeah I think that's my that's my evaluation. and All right. That's it. All right. Awesome. ah Well, with that, it's time for us to now look ahead to see all the games that are coming out within the next two weeks.

00:53:27
Speaker
Um, so that's going great. It looks, it's been looking good. I know that there's a lot of people excited for this one.

Ninja Gaiden Ragebound Anticipation

00:53:36
Speaker
Yeah. I'm, yeah, that's, that's awesome to see it, uh, coming. Uh, looks,
00:53:43
Speaker
I was surprised to not see Switch 2. two I guess maybe it's coming later. If it's on everything but the Switch 2, what I mean by that is that there's going to be a Switch version, but there's no like Switch 2 version of the game.
00:53:56
Speaker
So you still play it on the Switch 2, but it's just like it's the Nintendo Switch version, if that makes yeah makes sense. makes sense. um You got Demon Slayer, the Hinokami Chronicles 2 for all you weebs out there that won't shut up about Demon Slayer.
00:54:11
Speaker
I'm honestly really excited about the Tales of the Shire game. ah I think it looks really comfy and ah like an interesting, like almost Animal Crossing-esque game in set in Hobbit world, but like cooking focused.
00:54:28
Speaker
And I think it's interesting. The game looks great. I only wish that they showed us this game other than Nintendo Directs where the frame rate is not good.
00:54:42
Speaker
Yeah, that's fair.
00:54:46
Speaker
i Like, that's my only gripe with this game. I wish that, like, the other game showcases were like, yeah, let's show it right on our device and, you know, not stutter and give issues.
00:55:00
Speaker
Yeah. that's my oh That's my only gripe with that one. everything It looks fine. Gradius Origins. This is the big Gradius collection for its ah birthday. um So some if you're a a really old gamer, you'll appreciate those.
00:55:15
Speaker
um Tiny Bookshop is one that I'm looking forward to. I have it wishlisted. It's just you just run a tiny bookshop. Yeah, the art looks um'm awesome. And then lastly, the big release.
00:55:29
Speaker
Mafia, the old country. We're going to Italy. We're whacking people off. We're cutting off our pinkies if we ah but betray the boss or some shit. It's it's old-timey Mafia. and Everything I've seen from this game looks great.
00:55:45
Speaker
I just haven't gotten into the Mafia games myself, so I'm very neutral about it. Yeah, it looks like a good time. ah Well, with that, it's now time for us to dive into our main focus this week.
00:56:00
Speaker
Here's what we're talking about this week in the Game Lounge.

Donkey Kong Bonanza Insights

00:56:05
Speaker
Conversations of past and future games, the state of the gaming industry, how big decisions affect gamers, and anything else that's important to us. Here's what's going down this week in the Game Lounge. Starting off, it's banana time.
00:56:21
Speaker
We're talking some Donkey Kong Bananza. Oh, banana. Oh, banana. Yes. ah For those who do not know, they did bring back the Oh Banana sound effect from the original Donkey Kong 64 every time you call that collect a Banandium gem in the game.
00:56:44
Speaker
And it is absolutely um it's great because every time I find myself collecting a banana, I just find myself going, Oh, banana. Because it's just that fun to say.
00:56:57
Speaker
Yep. ah yeah yeah So full disclaimer, I'm going to start right here. During this conversation, we will be talking about spoilers because both myself and Ninja Frog have finished the main game and are in the post game.
00:57:15
Speaker
So you have been warned. I will leave in the description of this episode a timestamp of when the spoilers begin. ah So that way you can skip past them if you do not want to hear them.
00:57:28
Speaker
ah So Ninja Frog, how is Donkey Kong Bonanza? I think it's incredible. ah For a 3D platformer ah as a gorilla...
00:57:43
Speaker
I am for thoroughly thrilled. Very, very fun. um that i don't know how they managed to make a gorilla.
00:57:55
Speaker
Very fun to move around with. Also, very fun to press a button and feel like I'm hitting... ah a wall and doing so much damage to it.
00:58:07
Speaker
I feel so strong. It's so cool. is It's great. The move, like the movement is just as clean, if not a little cleaner than Mario Odyssey.
00:58:18
Speaker
And the level design is really great. And it's just, it's just so much fun and satisfying to just do everything in the game. Honestly. Yeah. Yeah.
00:58:32
Speaker
um In the beginning, I think I spent 15 minutes in the first room punching walls.
00:58:44
Speaker
I was... Maybe it was just me like waiting for a new game, because I've been i mean less in know less and less um trying to make sure I'm not spending too much. you know But like... So I hadn't had been playing too many new things.
00:59:02
Speaker
But Or maybe you I just needed to play game, dude. i just It was just so much fun. it's just You just keep punching the wall. they're like ah ah It's just... It's it's a blast.
00:59:16
Speaker
It really is. like from the first love From the first world to the last world, it's such... It's so good.
00:59:27
Speaker
I think that there's a couple... like moving on to pros and cons one of my biggest cons of the game ah are i didn't care for some areas ah more than other like some areas i'm like i wish it was maybe a little shorter that we spent there um and other areas and like i think that that's my biggest gripe is i think some areas should have been made a little shorter um but other than that that's really my only real comp complaint with the game yeah
01:00:00
Speaker
Um, yeah. I think as I've played more of it, I think the replayability is lacking in some areas. Some ways where like I feel less meaning to just go get and new, like, more bananas. Well, mean, replay replayability with this game, I feel like it suffers the same...
01:00:26
Speaker
replayability issue that Mario Odyssey has where it's like once you beat the game and do the post game and do everything with that there's really no need like unless you're speed running the game or doing challenge runs for the game there's really no need to play through the game again yeah which however the speed running movement is very yeah fun. So I mean, like we are talking to the speed runner. So it's like, ah you have that like replayability of a thing that you do with, and with the movement of this game, this game's movement is clean. The roll, the turf, surf, the surf, surf, the jumping, the climbing, the diving, everything. It's all great.
01:01:13
Speaker
All the bonanzas, everything. yeah Um, what was it what was your okay What would you say your favorite world was and your least favorite world was? ah
01:01:27
Speaker
ah The least favorite one was Landfill. yeah Okay, yeah, that's... You know what? Yeah, that's a... ah I'm not going to lie. Landfill did kind of suck.
01:01:39
Speaker
It was pretty... that one sucked. It... yep thou un suck'ed ah it I will say they, I'm impressed by the ability of them to make a camera work where you're like digging through a like a, you're making your own like tunnel.
01:01:59
Speaker
Yeah. as As, Donkey Kong and the camera is like slightly zoomed out and you're just continuously moving. You're hitting a bunch of particles. So it's like a bunch of stuff is going on. Maybe you fall into a hole, like,
01:02:13
Speaker
the camera's pretty good at like keeping up with you sometimes. Sometimes it gets a little confusing. So I think that's where that area really kind of pushed the boundaries of their ability to keep with you. Yeah, the underground camera, 9 out of 10 times, is like damn near good.
01:02:32
Speaker
It's just when you it's not good, you just gotta fiddle with it a little bit. But you it's like fiddling with it right or not to get it where you want it. yeah When it's not where you want it already. Because 9 out of 10 times, it's where you want it.
01:02:47
Speaker
When you're doing your underground tunneling. um My favorite... I think a lot of the lot of the ones just kind of like hit with like interesting ideas. I did really like the snake area.
01:03:07
Speaker
Oh, Radiant? Radiant Lair? Yes, Radiant Lair I did like a lot. that was ah That was a good one. um My least favorite was um the forest. What was was the forest lair?
01:03:22
Speaker
The forest one. ah Ostrich. Yeah. And the big reason why is the amount of poison everywhere.
01:03:36
Speaker
i i wish that they would have given us more tools to, like, handle it. Or just, you know, if you dig down certain amounts, not have it in certain places.
01:03:50
Speaker
ah That was my big... I also... I don't know why I didn't care for it that much. I just didn't care. I think also having it like being a choice with the frozen lair or the forest lair that you go to first and then you go to the other one second.
01:04:04
Speaker
I don't like that they had those two back-to-back because it will it did feel... like Those two lairs specifically feel a bit overwhelming back-to-back.
01:04:16
Speaker
As a completionist, mind you. Okay. we played The Indigifrog played this game very differently. I played each layer, collected every fossil and banana at the time I got there.
01:04:31
Speaker
and That's tired. And then I would move on. So that's why when it was just, when it would be like a long zone, short zone, long zone, short zone, I think it was fair. And then sometimes it'd be like two short zones or whatever.
01:04:43
Speaker
And then long zone. Like i was talking about that. that's That specific stretch of freeze and forest was rough. And like, I'm kind of don't care for either of those zones a whole lot, strictly because of how I play how i play the game.
01:04:58
Speaker
Yeah, I feel like if you had done my... Not to say, like, i' my way is the lie. Like a normal person. If I was a normal person and just, you know, play through the lair, get the progress, and do that, then yeah, I probably would have enjoyed them more.
01:05:15
Speaker
But no, I've got the tism, Ninja Frog. This is my thing. No, I just mean i just mean like like, okay. So like i made i made a pact. Okay, I understand you you want to complete it.
01:05:29
Speaker
But if you had made like a pact, like, okay, I'm going to do half of everything. That's what I did. I was like, I'm going to slow myself down and do half of it at the collectibles. For the majority. of so Certain ones, like the gigantic fossils, like i i didn't like i didn't count those.
01:05:47
Speaker
But most of them, yeah. So I did that. and So then you get to the main story, but then you can go back and do the and then get the rest of it. So then you like slow things down. Then you have still post-game stuff that you can do that gives you more buffer of, like okay, I can go collect things and then also go do like main things.
01:06:10
Speaker
Jeez, that must have been tiring, bro. I'm sure Forrest got annoying. For those two, it did um And then when it came to, what was it? The storm lair and the radiant lair.
01:06:24
Speaker
um it was like a bit more bearable, um especially because I had learned like, oh, if I just start breaking the ground and get chests to get me the fossil maps, I could just grind that out.
01:06:36
Speaker
And I did. um specifically with the feast lair had basically cleared up the entire starting area and I had found every fossil map um as for a favorite lair I really liked the disco lair because it you're so you're late in you're late in the game and it's like even though it's not like a very hard lair it's just DK relying solely on his abilities and I liked that yes that was a really good lair Yeah, agree.
01:07:06
Speaker
yeah no i like Honestly, it's it was it was great. ah how do you How does Bonanza compare to Odyssey?
01:07:15
Speaker
um How would you compare it? okay so To preface this, I want to like make sure anybody who doesn't know, this was made by the Odyssey devs. There is a lot of reminiscent things um from Mario Odyssey.
01:07:34
Speaker
Um, I think both of them have their own good qualities. Uh, and they're very similar. i mean, we already kind of talked about where it has that kind of like, when you complete it yet, you don't, you, you have less of ah like less of a replayability to go back to it.
01:07:52
Speaker
Um, Like, it's very much a one and done compared to, like, all the other Mario 3D platformers, like 64, Sunshine, and the Galaxy games. Like, you can return to those every so often and, like, replay them after years. And I would say it's still, like, an enjoyable time. but With a game this long and with how it's formatted, it's very much, like, I feel like more of a one and done for a lot of people.
01:08:18
Speaker
Yeah, that's a good way to put it.
01:08:22
Speaker
Well, I don't... i think I think I would feel similar with all those other... I think i think i the way I see it is, like, if it doesn't have, like, strong like story to it, like, more overall, like, ah variety of, like, gameplay styles, sort traits, like, story is the main thing I'm thinking of.
01:08:45
Speaker
Because, like, this has plenty of stuff. Like, it's 3D platformer, it's collectible, collectible on, has plenty things. But, like... it has less like ah density when it comes to a story. There was still some, but it was just less for me to like, okay, if I'm coming back to it, I'm coming back to it because I want to play Donkey Kong and move around as Donkey Kong as a gorilla. and like the Not because I want to go listen to the story. yet Like the story. Yeah. Cause the story is basically every in between world section, but you're going from one world to the next. It's like, here's some story.
01:09:17
Speaker
a Yeah. And then like certain key layers, it was just all story. That is the layer was there just for story. So how it compares to Odyssey, I think it's, it's very similar in the zone of like, okay, here's an area. It follows the same formula.
01:09:34
Speaker
Yeah, yeah. Here's a new area. It looks different, has a new gimmick. Let's deal with it. And you have plenty of new movement or something to mess around with um within the the boundaries of the game. I think one thing i like that they changed was they gave you an ability to kind of like upgrade Donkey Kong.
01:09:53
Speaker
um Yeah. And that was really interesting. I think ah where it kind of like falls where it's like there... not that Not that the moons meant a lot either because there were so many of them.
01:10:07
Speaker
just Just the barrier of like, okay, you can't go to this next area because you have to get these many moons. like i don't I don't think DK needed to do that. It's just i think i felt less meaning behind bananas because um a lot of the skills are tied behind like but not ahandas and and not to say that those aren't cool like great i get to upgrade them but i just i need a little bit more like donkey kong focused yeah stuff and i think that would have been awesome yeah because you could go through the entire game and only collect like absolutely man are there actually are there any bananas that are mandatory
01:10:54
Speaker
ah I don't think so. Because you could probably skip all of them, I think. i Aside from maybe like the first three ah you ah in like the tutorial zone.
01:11:08
Speaker
No, but you can still walk past them. yeah like yeah like there's the so like Since I've been speedrunning a little bit, if you go to that you do the beginning, you do have to like hit the first banana, but you don't get it.
01:11:18
Speaker
You just like hit oh you it. It triggers a cutscene and then you can skip it. so I don't think you have to get any banana. A banana-less run. No.
01:11:31
Speaker
Where's the bonanza? There is no bonanza. It's bonanza-less. I also learned a thing on TikTok is apparently you could get to the end of the game without any bonanzas either.
01:11:43
Speaker
Yes. ah yeah it's a lot It's a lot harder to do, but you can do it, which is nuts. it's It's wild. it's it's It's pretty fun. I've honestly been messing around with the speedrun a little bit, and it's been a good time, honestly. ah It's not too difficult, so if you're at all interested, even if you're just messing around, it gives you it gives you another reason to play the game. like If you're really enjoying it, honestly, like even if you don't make runs, just like messing around with like oh what this what <unk> extent you can like push this boundary of the game, I think it's really interesting while you're still playing Donkey Kong.
01:12:21
Speaker
um If you're really enjoying it, I think it's a good time. It is. oh Speaking of the Bonanza, what was your favorite Bonanza?
01:12:33
Speaker
Ooh, that's a hard question. Okay, so we got Kong. got Kong, Zebra, and Ostrich, which were shown off in the initial showcase for the game. yeah And then there were two more that we got.
01:12:45
Speaker
ah You got Elephant and Snake. uh and uh the elephant uh so for those who aren't listening to this spoiler portion of the talk uh if you as we all know kong was basically super strength zebra was speed ostrich was flight elephant gives the good old suck suck is basically a vacuum cleaner for everything that is that is not concrete or harder um It sucks up literally everything and is great to clear out entire ass areas.
01:13:21
Speaker
ah If you're just bored and want to do that. And then the snake ah could do two things. It jumps really high, has a double jump and can also slow things down using its glare.
01:13:35
Speaker
And that's what Snake does. And the funniest thing I find with Snake is when you unlock the Snake bonanza, basically, aside from the initial Kong bonanza, where Pauline at the start of it goes, DK!
01:13:48
Speaker
Every other bonanza starts with her saying the name of the animal. So... zebra, ostrich, elephant! And then, I want somebody to make Metal Gear Solid edit where Snake dies and then cuts to Pauline going, Snake!
01:14:11
Speaker
That would be awesome. I think by creativity, I think I like all of them for different reasons. And I love that they, I think all of those these are like regular like rideable animals and other donkey con like regular 2d i think i don't know about zebra i think zebra is i know ostrich is i believe don't actually know snake is either technically i don't know if elephant is either because it's technically it was all it was um the swordfish the ostrich and the rhino and rambi
01:14:50
Speaker
What was Espresso? Was Espresso the ostrich's name? And shit, the swordfish Esquardo? Why do I want to say Esquardo? So I think there is an elephant.
01:15:04
Speaker
I don't know which game it's in. Ellie the Elephant? don't remember riding a snake though. Engarde, that's his name. Engarde the swordfish.
01:15:16
Speaker
Oh, Ratly the rattlesnake? Oh. It's in Donkey Kong Country 2. Oh, i I don't know much about DK Country 2. It's more ditty, but still... Oh, no, let's just bring up to the high... yeah okay yeah so Okay, you got rat.
01:15:35
Speaker
yeah Okay, okay. that that i love okay yeah So loved. They all have been mounts at some point. Yeah, that's what loved. um Clapper the seal...
01:15:47
Speaker
What? You could have had a seal? Fake fans of Donkey Kong. I've never played a DK Country game. I need to fix... Oh, sorry. No. I've played Donkey Kong Country Returns.
01:16:02
Speaker
But like that's you know that's more of the... I haven't played the classics. Of course. um Okay. Yeah. ah So...
01:16:14
Speaker
I think I like them all for different reasons, but I think for creativity, I think I really like elephant. I think I like the idea that I can be an elephant and then also suck everything around. Yeah, I like' just like... Make a freaking gigantic rock. Yeah, the elephant was my favorite as well, just because the well they when people ask what that mouth do, well, you can see what that trunk do, because that trunk goes out of suck...
01:16:40
Speaker
but So that's so fun. It's great. When you combine that with the treasure tie to increase your treasure chest odds, it's just, there's no better combination.
01:16:56
Speaker
You just suck everything up and you get chests out ah and chest and chest and chest. And it's absolutely nuts. And it's great. It's all great. um Now, how does this compare to other DK games?
01:17:09
Speaker
Really, the only thing you can compare this to is Donkey Kong 64, which I unfortunately have never played. I haven't played it.
01:17:20
Speaker
but I've watched a decent amount of people playing it, and I kind of know the general gist yeah of of things. And it's related to like um kind of like the same trend of Banjo-Kazooie kind of gameplay. Yeah, because was rare. so So I think what you miss from those two ah is you miss being able to play different Kongs. Different Kongs, yeah.
01:17:46
Speaker
And I think... it's hard to decide. Like, I think they did a decent job of touching on, ah Donkey Kong history in this game.
01:17:58
Speaker
um so I'm not too wound up in that. I'm a big fan of having multiple characters to play in. So like ah Sonic games recently only focusing on Sonic drives me nuts, but, uh, uh,
01:18:16
Speaker
I think they did a good job of being able to just, okay, let's focus on this character. Let's put all the and for effort into them. We can put tons of movement, all this, but also kind of like, okay, well, that you do interact with,
01:18:30
Speaker
Cranky and Diddy and Cixi. Cranky follows in is in the comparison to Mario Odyssey. Cranky is like Peach and Cappy's sister ah where every level you'll find them.
01:18:45
Speaker
um Except instead of being a post game thing, it's a main game thing. You can just find Cranky and Rambi somewhere in the world. And then Cranky will rant to you about I'm out here when it should have been you getting on Rambi's back. But no, you were too busy in the goddamn mines.
01:19:00
Speaker
Yeah, fuck. It's so funny, dude. And then Diddy and Dixie are tied only to the racing world. Which, I mean, it's kind of... It's it's nice. it's like, oh, Diddy Kong Racing.
01:19:14
Speaker
I didn't think about that. yeah ah But that's that's legit it. That's where Diddy and Dixie appear. That's it. but they You race them once and then you're done.
01:19:25
Speaker
And that's but that's all it is. Yeah, I think...
01:19:32
Speaker
they, yeah, I think for a modern version of what they could do. I think they did a pretty good job. Yeah, so absolutely.
01:19:44
Speaker
I think there's trends of like very big, very open um stuff that we probably, i think a lot of people could, are interested in like not having as much.
01:19:57
Speaker
So I could see, i think that's what 64 maybe have been a little bit. So like, I could see things being, condensed a little bit. yeah But I think they did a really good job of like still keeping it pretty um focused.
01:20:12
Speaker
no yeah they absolutely certainly so They absolutely did. yeah yeah Alright. Let's talk ending and spoilers. who So, ah big warning folks. Even though we've talked a little bit of spoilers here and there, this is the big stuff.
01:20:29
Speaker
If you do not want spoilers here, look at the description of the podcast. You'll find where to skip to. Okay, so let's start with the Forbidden Lair, because that's really where the ending kicks off. um You get through it, you pay a couple of Securitones some money to progress through, and then you go fight Void ah for the final confrontation.
01:20:54
Speaker
And you know what? The Void Kong fight, pretty solid. um And then he turns Donkey Kong into a rock. And I'm like, oh shit, Donkey Kong's a rock, oh no!
01:21:07
Speaker
ah But Pauline then sings to free DK, and then Void, being the maniacal man he is, is like, awoke the Bonandium Root!
01:21:17
Speaker
And runs to it, only to get one hit KO'd by the real villain of the game, who we haven't seen since Super Smash Bros., but even longer than that, if you don't want to count Smash Bros.,
01:21:34
Speaker
The king himself is back. King K. Rool awakens from a banana-induced coma, basically.
01:21:47
Speaker
um so it turns out, and kind of slots everything in a timeline-wise for us, this game takes place after the events of the Donkey Kong Country and Donkey Kong 64.
01:22:02
Speaker
ah And but before the events of Donkey Kong Country returns, and obviously Mario Odyssey because Pauline's a child.
01:22:13
Speaker
King K. Rool wakes up and he, you know, he's he's he he's like, oh I'm going to get the banana root. And you go down to the planet's core. You chase him.
01:22:25
Speaker
You fight the Kremlings who God knows how long they've been down here in the planet's core. Yeah. ah And then you fight K. Rool one-on-one at the core of the planet.
01:22:39
Speaker
And the fight is great because you got to utilize like all of the... We'll ah we'll start with we'll start with phase one of the fight. Phase one of this whole section, really.
01:22:49
Speaker
The second you start fighting K. Rool, you are essentially at the point of no return for pre-post-game stuff. Phase one is you fight K. Rool.
01:23:03
Speaker
You utilize Zebra Bonanza to get close to him and really Kong Bonanza to just wail the shit out of him. It wasn't that bad of a fight ah the first phase.
01:23:13
Speaker
You beat him and then you think the game is done and credits roll. But wait, the credits are rolling and it's King K. Rool themed. All the staffs start with the letter K. There's a lot of K puns. What's going on? Well, King K. Rool ain't going to take that shit lying down.
01:23:29
Speaker
You make your final wish and King K. Rool starts following you and the second phase begins where you're just throwing bananas, golden bananas at him to try to stop him from hurting you and getting to the banana root.
01:23:42
Speaker
Well, even after doing that, he still gets to the bandana route, and then you end up in fucking New Donk City on the surface. And that was great. That was such a cool... It's a great set piece for the finale.
01:23:57
Speaker
And then everybody dies. yeah i Legit. white Sort of like how chaos kills everybody in Sonic Adventure. King K. Rool.
01:24:08
Speaker
Except I would say this. I would say people there were maybe more people who survived chaos than King K. Rool. Because if you were if you're able to swim, at least, and you're able to like survive the initial flooding and can swim, i think you're fine.
01:24:22
Speaker
He brings up molten banana liquid from the fucking ground. Ereks a giant statue of himself made of golden banana.
01:24:34
Speaker
And, you know, just starts destroying the town. um Using your bonanza abilities again, you platform all the way to get to him. And you fight him in a boxing ring, just like you do at the end of Donkey Kong 64.
01:24:52
Speaker
which is a great callback. And then he activates his Bonanza mode and becomes the Muck King, essentially.
01:25:04
Speaker
And that fight was actually pretty hard. the The second phase of K. Rool, fucking hard, not gonna lie. Yeah, it's pretty hard. ah you are you You essentially need to use all your Bonanza abilities aside from Ostrich, I found. I didn't i felt like I didn't need to use Ostrich, but I found myself using Zebra and Kong at the start, and then when the phase change happens would the attack phase changes and he starts gooping everything, you use the Elephant phase to clean it up to make yourself some platforms and the Snake to a dodge some attacks.
01:25:44
Speaker
And, uh, but you beat them. And then you go your separate ways with Pauline. She heard him to become the singer credits roll. It plays the new original song, which is a banger, by the way, like, Holy fucking shit.
01:26:00
Speaker
Like Nintendo kind of cooked on the soundtrack. Not going to lie. They did a really fucking good job. And I think if this was any other year,
01:26:11
Speaker
they would win best ah soundtrack at the game awards this year because of the game soundtrack because it is just magnificent.
01:26:24
Speaker
Yeah, it's a good time. um But overall, that was that's how like the finale goes. It's a great finale to a a great game. what What were your thoughts on the finale, Ninja Frog?
01:26:35
Speaker
Yeah, i once we got to that end and then K. Rool came out, i was like, shit. We got more game, bro. We got more game. I i really wish that I wasn't spoiled and found out that K. Rool was in the game.
01:26:53
Speaker
No. Granted, I didn't know what context he would be in the game, umm so I'm like, oh, is he Void's actual boss or something like that? Yeah. um But as it got closer to the end, I'm like,
01:27:07
Speaker
I'm like, there's still no K. Rool. Where does he fall into this? And then the second you see the first banana, I'm like, oh my God, the fucking K. Rool put himself in a fucking coma for eating too many goddamn bananas.
01:27:24
Speaker
Yeah. awesome It's that's awesome. it's It's the way a king should live, honestly. It's so simple and silly. just wish, because I would have had a much better reaction to like, that doesn't look like a roof. That looks like a stomach and a belly button.
01:27:39
Speaker
A golden belly button that I've seen before in Smash Bros. that has armor. oh my god, it's King K. Rool! Yeah, I didn't even think about it. i was just like, that looks like a weird...
01:27:52
Speaker
hotel bell. You know bells when you walk in? yeah and It just looked like that. i was just like, okay, sure. i guess that's what the Bananian Rue looks like.
01:28:06
Speaker
but Yeah, sure. It looks a little weird. Void runs up to it. Ka-chow. Oh my gosh. Yeah, that that was great. I was i was like a rush of like, okay, we could fight K. Rool. And then the credits, the fake credits were awesome into like a little bit extra kind of like like ah a little bit more layer where it's kind of like, okay, go fight Rool.
01:28:32
Speaker
more of his enemies, which are just his, like, his crew. Like, you see the the actual bird enemies, the the crocs, ah yeah but just, like, everything that used to be just, like, covered in rock and just, like, a weird, like, skeleton made of gold. everything that was Void's creations essentially become the Kremlin version of it, which is hilarious.
01:28:57
Speaker
um Like, you see the whole frickin', uh, They all start with K. Yeah, I believe that. Critters.
01:29:08
Speaker
That's what they're called. Critters. You see the critters, claptraps, the buzzards, the bees, the other critters. I wish that they had brought in um K. Rool's commanders as well.
01:29:23
Speaker
as like um Because there's a part where you do like kind of like a little bit of a gauntlet. I wish that they like maybe had... like commanders there too as just like a bit more i would have been cool to see i think yeah i agree that would have been nice um no yeah i thought it was great at the the
01:29:45
Speaker
just i loved just like going throughout the game uh and the connection with ah pauline i think it was just like
01:29:55
Speaker
i I really want them to touch on more, even if they don't go too much, just like a little bit, because I know all these characters they make have so much like potential of character that they could have, and so it was interesting to have that there.
01:30:11
Speaker
um And i think I went to almost as many getaways as I could ah throughout the game. And they just give you bits of dialogue. And they just like they do is yeah it's awesome. And I just listened to those.
01:30:25
Speaker
um and tidbit tidbits ah of her personality. I know she's 13. This is not related to that. um But she reminds me of like her personality reminds me of like my girlfriend to a certain extent.
01:30:40
Speaker
And that's great. So I just like it. I think it made me more ah connected to it in that sense. But ah yeah, so i thought I thought it was great being able to delve into that. um that character more throughout the game and also just fleshing out. Okay. This is, this is a way we can make her a character. Yeah. a side Yeah. Cause all Pauline's ever been is damsel in distress and mayor of new dog city who sings.
01:31:11
Speaker
That's all we've really known Pauline as this is the first time we've actually seen her given personality and it's great. And also her being the only character that speaks English in the entire game, able to understand the monkeys and the yeah alligators and all the other animals is just wild.
01:31:32
Speaker
Yeah. They did an interesting job. Like, it's an interesting ah dynamic to...
01:31:40
Speaker
Taylor, like, the connection between a monkey brain and... that has some sort of humanity to it. Oh, banana! Yeah, pretty much. And human. blood and I think they did a good job. Just, like, the the the ending of, like, how they kind of transitioned away from each other and Pauline understanding that, okay, it's still monkey brain.
01:32:06
Speaker
But you, like, kind of understand me. Um... That like, okay, we're kind of going on our separate ways. um That was interesting. liked how I did that. But yeah, I think the, my only thing toward going towards the end is I think it was a very awkward transition of difficulty.
01:32:25
Speaker
um Yeah, no, I was throughout the game were way too easy. yeah because you could just turn the bonanza and immediately just just destroy it. yeah Bonanza breaks essentially every boss fight.
01:32:36
Speaker
And then when you get to K. Rool, it's like the difficulty has been turned up to 11. I mean, I'm used to him now. I really like fighting him just like for treating it just like practicing for maybe doing a speed run.
01:32:49
Speaker
But like, it's just the the difficulty ramps up a lot. Like, I wish that they maybe eased it in a bit better with the, like, other areas in their boss fights. Like, Void is a little bit of a tricky one, but really with Void, you're primarily just trying to avoid everything, and then you hit him.
01:33:12
Speaker
That's all Void. Like, avoid all the obstacles he throws at you, and then you just punch him, he moves, you move after him, avoid stuff, punch him again, and that's basically Void's fight.
01:33:22
Speaker
Like, it's hard in the sense of, like, if you don't platform correctly, you're going to fail. But other than that, there's no other real skill needed for any of the other bosses. Get it?
01:33:35
Speaker
A void. A void for the void.

Post-Game and New Modes Exploration

01:33:39
Speaker
um So then we get into the post game and the post game starts three months after the events of Bonanza. It's like, whoa!
01:33:46
Speaker
um Because obviously Pauline stayed in the surface and then DK went back to the... DK, like the true soldier he is, went back to the mines. Yeah. ah And the two underlings for Void, Poppy and Grumpy ah quit.
01:34:04
Speaker
They started their own company. And they're like, oh yeah, we got a teleporter here, an elevator here up in the s surface up in our up at this lair. You should go check it out. And the eel comes up, spits out Pauline, and Pauline's like, Donkey Kong, um'm I'm a singer now.
01:34:20
Speaker
I need a new song, and I'm looking for inspiration. We need to go to find the elders again. um and that's in the post game from what i gather so obviously there's new bananas to collect in each area um i believe there's a new challenge for each of the elders and then at the end of it all you there is essentially the darker side slash super final galaxy slash the big final chat gauntlet at the end of it that you can do as well
01:34:52
Speaker
um On top of that, if you talk to Grumpy and give him some gold in the Ingot Isle Lair, he unlocks two other modes. a
01:35:06
Speaker
The first one is a Battle Rush mode, and the second one is a Boss Rush mode. um oh shoot i didn't know that yeah i have cleared the battle rush mode i have not started the boss rush mode because i'm like that's a boss rush i'll do that last because yeah i don't know how many bosses it actually is and if that includes k rule i'm sure it does uh but yeah those are that's essentially everything the post game has that i've seen again i only just got to the post game you've been in there for a lot longer ninja frog have i missed anything for post game
01:35:40
Speaker
Yeah, so I can... ah i think you've... I didn't even know about those rushes. I guess you have to... You just to go... if you're On the Ingot Isle, you just go talk to Grumpy. He's like, hey, pay me $5,000.
01:35:52
Speaker
You got this get this... You get battle rush. do the i don't know if you have to do that or go away and come back if you have to clear it. yeah It's not that hard. It's 13 battles in a row.
01:36:02
Speaker
It's not hard. Then you pay him $10,000 and locks boss rush. Okay. um Yeah, the that's pretty much it. ah yeah the The challenges is like the main part of the post game. You're going around the elders and try and get inspiration for Pauline's song.
01:36:20
Speaker
um They can be challenging. They kind of just focus on each each of the core bonanzas. The core bonanzas. ah You do get extra skills. One extra skill for each bonanza.
01:36:31
Speaker
okay. That's cool. So, I mean, I could go into detail a little bit about those, but they're not too... Yeah, like I'd be interested. um So, you're going to hate this a little bit, but I heard you talking about 100% and not... So, i guess I guess it doesn't make that big of a deal.
01:36:48
Speaker
um it It just makes gold easier to get, basically. So each one has their own like way to get gold faster. so like ah Kong's Bonanza is you hold punch longer.
01:37:01
Speaker
And then if you hit the punch, um it just like anything in front of you just turns into gold. Oh, ok the the the um And then another one example is like the...
01:37:15
Speaker
ebra Elephant one, ah like a narrow path in front of you while you're using your trunk. While you suck. It's gold. So stuff like that. That's not that big of a gold. so gold is like Gold is very plentiful in stuff as it is.
01:37:33
Speaker
So it's like, i believe I believe with the post game, you need a lot more anyways. ah Because the smashing stats on Ingot Isle want you to destroy like 100,000 worth of gold for a banana. But I already got that because legit the gold that they have all around the area is enough to get you through that.
01:37:52
Speaker
but Yeah, definitely. Yeah. Okay. but's So it's basically just gold inducing stats. Yeah. okay so yeah it's It's goofy, but it's it's buts okay.
01:38:04
Speaker
um So there's that. um The challenges are good. They're they're tough, um but they really kind of push the boundaries of what each banana does.
01:38:16
Speaker
the last one is he gone uh it is rough uh because if you die you get something at the beginning yeah and that sucks and i i don't like i compared it in my head to the 3d world like star world like last level it's not as difficult as that that's really really hard this is still hard um is it like dark like more darker side hard uh i think so it might it's probably on the side of that i can't i i'm like hard uh recollecting that um difficulty but it's probably on the level have you have you cleared it i don't know if i did or not i can't remember he's been playing the game so much he doesn't even remember if he did the hardest challenge or not oh no are you talking about odyssey or are you talking about oh i'm talking about bonanza
01:39:11
Speaker
Yeah, no, yeah, I did finish the oh i finished finished the last one. oh last But I did, I did will say, um I was doing this latest in the late at night ah with a friend. um And I don't know, has Zan been on the podcast?
01:39:24
Speaker
No. Okay, so fellow speedrunner that I know, we were both like just playing the game and I was trying to get it through and it was just getting later and later and I kept dying and I kept dying and I kept dying. And it was just like, okay, I'm either gonna wait until the next day or I'm gonna get this done.
01:39:43
Speaker
So he was like, I was game sharing it because I didn't know how my capture card worked. I now know that my capture card works. um But ah he it was game sharing through the Switch 2 thing, which is kind of ridiculous that we did this. And then you could also play two player through the game chat. Oh, yeah.
01:40:03
Speaker
I forgot about that. he pulls out game two player. And my gosh, dude. two player is broken. Literally anything in front of you just gets destroyed. like i he was just spamming the button.
01:40:23
Speaker
like the the any Whatever the button is that shouts like the words. It just shouts words. The words are the material that you chose. so like and It just destroys anything in front of you. so then It made everything so much easier.
01:40:37
Speaker
and i could just clearly... but the challenge with so much for ease. um But it's not it's I definitely could have done it, um but it was a goofy way to end it. just and We were just just now learning how to use two-player, and then we also played ah the King K rule in two-player.
01:40:58
Speaker
It's technically a little bit faster. okay um But it is I think it's i think um with the right person, I think the two player can be a really goofy and fun time. Cause it's just so like chaotic.
01:41:12
Speaker
Um, it's not much, but it's a little bit enough to like, you're doing something. So yeah. Yeah. Nice.

Switch 2 Purchase Justification

01:41:20
Speaker
Uh, last question I have with Bonanza.
01:41:23
Speaker
Do you think we're going to see a free update DLC come for it? Like we did with Luigi's balloon world for Odyssey. Oh, you think we're going to see something like that. And who do you think it'll be based around?
01:41:37
Speaker
My theory, Funky Kong. Oh, dude. Because like you're doing like tricks. If they do a balloon mode again, it makes sense that it would be balloons because you can dig everywhere and hide shit.
01:41:52
Speaker
So like it makes sense that you would bring back a balloon mode for it. um And I think Funky Kong is the perfect like mascot for that. Yeah, that's that's actually such a good callback. That would be awesome.
01:42:06
Speaker
I would love that. I would love them to do a DLC of some kind. I doubt it's going to happen because Odyssey didn't get it. Odyssey didn't get one. It was just a Luigi update.
01:42:17
Speaker
And you didn't even get to play as Luigi. It's just, hey, bro, I'm a floating-hour balloon. Yahoo! Yeah, but that would be awesome. Even if it was just that, like that would be sick. Yeah, Funky Kong is definitely the call there. I don't see anybody else as being ah the better pick for that. because it just like you I don't know, you could like hide surfboards or something. I don't know. yeah oh that's yeah like Something like that, yeah. um final True final out question before we switch topics.
01:42:46
Speaker
With this game now out, is getting a Switch 2 at this moment worth it? so I think think, so like, this is how I see it.
01:42:59
Speaker
So it's kind of how I saw the console coming at it. So they are making, still developing stuff for the original Switch for a little bit.
01:43:12
Speaker
And I'm sure it's going to go into next year. um I think it's a really good game. Can you wait on it Sure. like you get like it's just ah It's just a 3D platformer. Unless you're like a diehard like Donkey Kong or platformer Mario fan, like you can you could take you can you can wait.
01:43:31
Speaker
I don't think you need to do it, as as as you really don't need to jump on the console just yet. um But if you're like a big Nintendo fan and you're like, oh, I want that upgrade and that 3D platform itch is hitting me, like definitely go for it.
01:43:47
Speaker
um But I think it's think the selling point of it right now is, okay, we're kind of still producing stuff for the Switch 1, we got hard hard bangers for the Switch 2.
01:44:01
Speaker
I don't think you should push it unless you're like ready to buy it. I don't think it's a system seller. and don't think any of the stuff to me is going to be because they're still giving it for the Switch one.
01:44:14
Speaker
um Unless you're like, I got it. I got money. Because if you if you got if you got it and you're going to play it, do it. Because they're you might as well get the the extra oomph of power if you know you're going to ah allow yourself to spend the money.
01:44:31
Speaker
Is my viewpoint. I don't know. How do you feel about it? You know, i feel like at this point, it's like if you really want to play DK, then getting a Switch 2 is worth it.
01:44:43
Speaker
ah But like you could like, legit, there's only three games that are exclusive to the Switch 2 right now. Yeah. I would still say wait. Don't be like don't be like us.
01:44:54
Speaker
Save your money. think i think if you're if you're looking to get it when there's clearly a lot of games at it i think and you still want to get it soon, like okay, get Holiday.
01:45:09
Speaker
Just get it wait until Holiday. yeah Maybe there will be a little bit of a discount. or a good bundle. Maybe there'll be like a good custom version of it um with Air Ride coming out. I almost waited. I almost waited because i was they were dropping it in Holiday.
01:45:24
Speaker
I think they are. Riders, thought they announced it for next year. I think it maybe just said 2025. It's still this year. Damn.
01:45:33
Speaker
and by think it maybe just send twenty forty five yeah just one twenty five or okay oh it's still this year damn ah So that I assumed it was holiday, and I am super excited for that game. And I thought they were going to do a custom version of the Switch 2, and I almost waited.
01:45:48
Speaker
So that could be, if you're like wanting like a custom version, something like that. um and There's going to be tons of games at that point. We'll have Donkey Kong. We'll have the upgraded versions of...
01:46:01
Speaker
ah like the Pokemon ZA will have upgraded Mario Party, upgraded Kirby, forgotten land. Yeah, exactly. You already have upgraded Zeldas. It's like it's like there's there's a lot of good shit coming.
01:46:14
Speaker
ah holiday Holiday will definitely be

Selling Games in Secondhand Markets

01:47:10
Speaker
ah We're briefly talking about this ah secondhand game markets like Facebook Marketplace and eBay.
01:47:19
Speaker
Because you had brought this up, ah Ninja Frog. So what are your thoughts on them? Yeah, so i brought this up because i was like I was trying to think of something else. like what What have I been doing? Because I only have so much time play games.
01:47:33
Speaker
um I can't keep up with everybody playing everything. Uh, but I have been kind of delving into other stuff that's related to it. Um, so I have like old stuff that I'm like, I don't know if I want to keep it. I'm not sure.
01:47:47
Speaker
so like I've been delving into a little bit of selling, um, on markets pay marketplace specifically. um but I have been kind of like talking with a friend who does some eBay. Um, I, I think it's great.
01:47:59
Speaker
Uh, I think if, especially if you have a bunch of old stuff and you're trying to get like, um, just I think my my perspective right now is I'm trying to not spend too much money, um since especially since the Switch 2 stuff has been more expensive.
01:48:14
Speaker
Okay, if I'm not going to play this for a while or I'm not using it, let's get rid of this. um Give it to somebody who wants it. That's my that's my main intention, hopefully.
01:48:25
Speaker
i can't guarantee that. My hope is I'm giving it to somebody who wants to use it or yeah who needs to collect games or is trying to collect games and needs that specific game. give to the right person but also we can get like an extra extra buck out of it and and then that money cords towards the buying whatever i was trying to buy instead just still towards games um so i didn't really lose too much um yeah it's been fun uh i think the benefit of the marketplace um version is oftentimes i have the ability to try and meet people um so like you you need to be safe with it of course yeah that's a big that's like the biggest thing that i see for this is like obviously safety for the sell the buyers and the sellers of this stuff yeah because you never know if someone's gonna just bring a a knife to the to the meetup and be like now give me your shit
01:49:19
Speaker
Of course. um So like the main tips, if you end up defining to jump into it um is only sticking to messenger. do not, if somebody is like, oh, let's jump on this, private like try and try and focus on messenger.
01:49:35
Speaker
Like focus on messenger um with the communication method. That'll keep your communication where the the purchasing and the deal is going through.
01:49:49
Speaker
um And coming from the first place. And then also just finding places that are safe to meet. so maybe Public places with lots of people. And cameras. So like I often go to a gas station that I know that's public um that also has cameras.
01:50:06
Speaker
um A lot of lot of play random places that are the public, um grocery stores and stuff, some often have cameras outside. So somewhere like that, where you feel like, okay, you're there, you know, you're be kind of, there's some sort of thing that could be ah checked on later on.
01:50:25
Speaker
um So meeting somewhere that's not your place. that extension. um And i think, so when you have those boundaries set in place, then that also makes the other person feel safer.
01:50:40
Speaker
um And then you're able to then connect in a way. And I think that's why that makes the marketplace interesting is because you can meet the person. And I've tried to ask kind of curious questions like, Oh, like what, what's the reasoning why you're getting this game?
01:50:54
Speaker
Um, the one recent one was this guy is, had a organ transplant and, ah may have, is finding out he might have cancer and was just trying to get like a new game. Like I, I was so,
01:51:12
Speaker
That's awesome, dude. like i also would like to connect to somebody. It's so rare, but it's just like but just like to be able to connect with somebody like that I think is really awesome. um And just like learning about, oh, you meet a new person that you get to talk to for like five minutes. I don't know. It's just like getting that connection is fun to me.
01:51:37
Speaker
um So that's been fun. I think so far all I've done, I've done a couple Pokemon games. I did Platinum and um did Platinum and Pokemon White, which are both DS games, so they sell a little bit better.
01:51:55
Speaker
Platinum, so oftentimes I usually use either eBay um where it' says where you can filter by sold items and see what price they were sold at. um And you take that and or you can use price charting.com and that kind of gives you a gist. Often those are using eBay's sold item yeah anyway.
01:52:17
Speaker
So ah using that kind of gives you a way to like start as a starting point. If you're using marketplace, definitely it's going to be marketplace is going to be more towards selling a little bit lower than what it's usually marked at on eBay. Yeah. eBay usually marked at the actual ah market price because you're shipping it um And i kind of like that cost gets put on the buyer instead of giving it to the person.
01:52:45
Speaker
um So like Facebook Marketplace does have shipping that you can do, um so that can kind of change things. um But yeah, no, I think it's been a really good time.
01:52:57
Speaker
um And yeah, ah like Pokemon Platinum, I had 180, dude. It's insane. yeah no poke Old Pokemon games sell for a lot and it's wild.
01:53:11
Speaker
I mean, like that's kind of the case with, like I would say, a majority of like the big hitter retro games, they'll always sell at a high price. um like ah talking about ah going to like some old game show retro game shows uh that i that's what i like to do in my when when they come to town when they are put on i love going to them to see what i can find i mean that's how i got my game collection to where it is today um is because of those and it's like all right how much is my wallet gonna hurt after this
01:53:45
Speaker
who ah because you know all the good shit or the rare shit is worth ah quite a bit of money yeah do you have any like things that you would say you wish marketplace or eBay did better ah and do you find that retro games sell more quicker than modern games on the second hand sites or is it the other way around yes okay so answer to both so Um, my initial thought with marketplace, I think I like the, the sold filter on eBay. I don't think unless I am like missing it, I don't think marketplace has that.
01:54:31
Speaker
And I think it would be very useful or if it is there, it's not in a very user friendly place to find. Um, so having that there to be able to say, okay,
01:54:43
Speaker
Let's look at what other people have sold. It's not a needed thing, um but it's helpful. um I don't, ah I'm still kind of new, um so i don't have too much cons with it.
01:55:00
Speaker
And I'm kind of learned really quick on the safety stuff. So yeah, that that's the main thing I would think to improve. um Otherwise, it's pretty good. like If you have something up there that you're trying to sell, um like, OK.
01:55:17
Speaker
ah with Especially with games. like Games oftentimes are, if it's something that's retro, people are going to jump on it very fast. ah If it's highly highly priced on the market,
01:55:31
Speaker
It's very interested. um So I sold those two as platinum and white. um And then i also sold Pikmin 4. um I had played through it. It was kind of like I 100%ed it.
01:55:46
Speaker
I'm like, I'm not going to play this again. I really loved it. I just know that unless I'm like going to speedrun it or make a challenge out of it, I'm not going to play it again. um Like Pikmin 3, I might play a two-player run of it. But like, no.
01:56:00
Speaker
um Probably not. I played way too, like ah ton of it. So that, um so that got slower attention. um think I had to, so it, how it works is you list it for seven days and then you can relist it.
01:56:18
Speaker
um And then you could also like, I think you can sponsor it technically and you can add, like give Facebook money and then you'll put it as an ad. I haven't done that at all. um So far. So if you're selling games. Especially retro stuff. like You don't really need to do that. like You should be able to post it.
01:56:34
Speaker
Post with enough information that they know. Okay. This is the game. This is what its quality is. Whatever. um So yeah.
01:56:44
Speaker
I think. Yeah. It's.
01:56:49
Speaker
i don't I lost my thought.
01:56:54
Speaker
i yeah i got yeah so current Current retro. so like. i it sold a little bit less slower, but it eventually got to somebody.
01:57:05
Speaker
So as long as you're patient and put it up there and have enough information ah and you're selling it at a decent price. like I think I was gauging between ah good deal um that I wouldn't get if I brought it to GameStop, but that wasn't as expensive as if you bought it from GameStop at pre-owned.
01:57:32
Speaker
It was kind of where I was going for. So like I would get a little bit more um if I just brought it to GameStop. So like for Pikmin, for example, I think I got it for, I think I sold it for 30, 35, 30? Maybe it 30.
01:57:44
Speaker
thirty five thirty ma was thirty And I think at GameStop you can get it for like $19. nineteen So it's only like $10. But it's a it was I was already doing the Pokemon. So it's like it was kind of turning into something fun.
01:57:58
Speaker
um So it was enough where I was like, oh okay. Yeah. Sure. um And you get the cash instead. Instead of getting the credit. um So, yeah. I think it can be fun.
01:58:12
Speaker
And current... the current games can still sell, but retro games are definitely much more wanted, especially if you can find somebody who takes care of it. So I often take care of my games so very well.
01:58:29
Speaker
We've kept them in spots that are like kind of organized and they're in their own spot, um especially the DS games. So i have like I just found out ah I'm having trouble getting rid of it. I may not get rid of it.
01:58:43
Speaker
HeartGold I love that game a lot, but it is worth lot. But I did find i have the inserts, I have the game, have the box, all in good quality. And I also just changed the battery on the Poke Walker that I randomly found in the DS case that I have.
01:59:00
Speaker
and it works. So have everything that's related that game. At that point, you have everything like that. You might as well fucking try to sell that at a game convention or just go to a retro game store and see what they would offer for it. Because you know you can get damn well near market. Yeah, that's true. Just under market price most likely for all that.
01:59:23
Speaker
like as long like was good negotiations for a game store obviously but otherwise i think you could probably go to a game show bring that with you walk around and just be like anybody anybody wants yeah that's so true yeah i'm sure there would be tons of people that would be interested in it it's just yeah uh so it's been it's been fun i think it's if you have some old stuff that you don't want i think I'm having this trouble of ah battling the, the, the, I have a bunch of stuff that I don't need or should i keep some of it?
01:59:59
Speaker
And I'm trying to not like push it all away because it's a lot of, it's my childhood. Yeah. Trying not to like push it out. Figuring out what to get rid of it. why to give Yeah. Yeah. Yes. um But I also think it can be fun.
02:00:12
Speaker
um So yeah, I think it's, it's a good time. um If you'd rather do eBay, that's totally fair. um They do take, so you would mark it up at the more right market price um and you ship it.
02:00:30
Speaker
So you, and I think eBay takes a little bit out of it. um So to depends on what you decide you'd rather do. all right. um I think I've just,
02:00:41
Speaker
gone towards the marketplace because i can just do meetups. I don't have to deal with shipping. yeah you You're your own middleman. You don't have to deal with the eBay middleman. I can also meet people.
02:00:53
Speaker
so A personable guy Ninja Frog is. Yeah.
02:00:59
Speaker
Excellent. ah Well, with that, I think that's a great place to wrap up our second topic and head on into the final segment, the bonus level. Crazy lists, great deals, and recapping gaming history. It's all here in the bonus level.

New Segment: Game Clash

02:01:15
Speaker
And to kick off the bonus level, we got our brand new segment this season, Game Clash Ninja Frog. It's similar to a segment we used to have um that if i that I do not remember the title of from last season.
02:01:30
Speaker
um Except this time we got a small little bracket tournament, four matches. You get to decide the grand tournament winner. um Our theme today is video game food.
02:01:41
Speaker
Are you ready? Yeah. Alright, match one. pacman The Pac-Man of Fruit versus the Mario 1-Up Shroom. Who wins? ah You know what? Honestly,

Speaker
i think going with the Fruit. I think i think the Fruit has more versatility and also just like it hits well in the 3D games too.
02:02:04
Speaker
i think you could have to so many different Fruits while the 1-Up Shroom, you know, it's just Yeah, I'm going Pac-Man Shrew. Alright, match two. We got the Nuka-Cola from Fallout versus the Slice of Bread from i Am Bread.
02:02:23
Speaker
Yep, bread.
02:02:25
Speaker
Bread. Bread. Alright, we got the DK Banana versus the Minecraft Cake. The Minecraft Cake. Oh my gosh. um
02:02:40
Speaker
You know, i do love my cake, but... For months, I've been saying, banana. So you know for sure I'm going with the banana. Banana takes it. All right. And the final match, the Slowpoke Tail from Pokemon versus the Elder Scrolls Sweet Roll.
02:03:01
Speaker
ah geez. Wait, isn't there like lore to the Slowpoke Tail too? Yes, but because it is an ingredient Sword and Shield for curry, it's valid.
02:03:14
Speaker
Oh my gosh. Um... Oh, that's hard. Because I just feel weird saying the Slowpoke tail because I do not want to eat that. Because it's a Pokemon road.
02:03:26
Speaker
But then there's like... Ah, this weird... Hey, I could have made it weirder and put the entire Vanillish line in this instead. You know...
02:03:39
Speaker
you know
02:03:42
Speaker
ah ah You know what? Actually, going to with the Slowpoke tail because it just has it. has more to it you know The the the the sopo episode of Pokemon where I think Ash gets like a Slowpoke tail on his on the back of him or maybe it's his head no he like kind of gets like the Slowbro going on wasn't it the shell that lets Slowpoke go on Slowbro oh you're right it is the shell so it isn't Slowpoke tail anyways moving on to the semi moving on to the semi-finals the Pac-Man fruit versus bread bread
02:04:27
Speaker
Brad going to the finals. it Going up against it, is it going to be the banana or the slowpoke tail? Ooh. Ooh. Banana, for sure.
02:04:40
Speaker
All right, grand finals. We have i Am Bread versus the Donkey Kong Banana. Oh, no. What would it be? Oh, this is so hard.
02:04:52
Speaker
Oh, no. Okay. Okay. banana or bread i am bread or oh but ah i gotta go with the banana the banana wins Banana wins. Let's go.
02:05:13
Speaker
Love to see it. um Moving on to this week in gaming history, here some major events that happened in the past. Starting with July 28th, 2017, Nintendo launched the Nintendo XL in North America for $149 US dollars.
02:05:27
Speaker
in north america for one hundred and forty nine u s dollars On August 6th, 1999, SNK officially released the Neo Geo Pocket color handheld video game system in the US.
02:05:40
Speaker
It features a 160 by 152 pixel color LCD screen, two buttons, and a joystick controls. The system operates for 40 hours on battery power and was 70 bucks US.
02:05:52
Speaker
And on August 8th, 2006, Nintendo holds a 10th birthday Pokemon party at the Bryant Park in New York City. Over 25,000 people attended, including a giant flying Pikachu from the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade.
02:06:08
Speaker
oh my gosh. Moving on to the game birthdays. Here's what's turning older, just like you. On July 28th, Mario Golf Toadstool Tour turns 22.
02:06:19
Speaker
On July 29th, Soul Calibur 4 turns 17. On July 30th, Pokemon Crystal turns 24. On August 1st, Super Mario All-Stars turns 32.
02:06:31
Speaker
And on the 2nd, The Legend is of Link's Awakening turns 32. On the 4th of August, Castlevania Harmony of dis Despair turns 15. On August 8th, Dead Rising turns 19.
02:06:42
Speaker
On August ninth The Beatles Rock Band turns 14. And on August 10th, Scott Pilgrim vs. The World turns 15. Feel old? Yep.
02:06:55
Speaker
ah Good. Moving on to our season. Tony's game poll. It's our seasonal poll that we've got every season and our season, our poll this season, Ninja frog, what franchise deserves a new game in 2025, 2026 that has not been announced yet.
02:07:16
Speaker
Oh, Hmm. Okay. What franchise we're talking about entire franchise. that hasn't been announced yet.
02:07:30
Speaker
Okay, I'm going to try and brainstorm here. ah So i got my I got my Paper Mario TDYD. um So we we're we're good on that.
02:07:42
Speaker
um Oh, I got it. Okay, so Yoshi. You know what? That's a good one because we have not... but Nothing new for Yoshi has been talked talked about.
02:07:55
Speaker
um And so ah two things on or few a few things on this. So on the, I think it was the UK Nintendo direct for the switch to, there was a little, maybe it was actually, I think it was the U S one.
02:08:09
Speaker
um There was a little bit of like, when it, while they were talking or something, there was a bunch of like games going back in the background of art. And there was one shot of art of that looked like woolly world,
02:08:24
Speaker
um gameplay or art and it had like um poochie in it and it was like wait wait a second so it's possible that that was there and we're still waiting on an announcement for and woolly world like i think they had made like a 3ds like ah version that was had like ah some more content oh yeah they did um So I wonder if they're going to bring that to Switch and make like a new remake. That's so one thing I would love because i didn't get to play Craftworld.
02:08:56
Speaker
i have heard it was meh. I loved Woolly World and I would love for it to come back. Please, I want to play it again. i loved it. Please. um That and this is a wild card.
02:09:11
Speaker
um so Probably won't believe me. um But when the before Forgotten Land came out, I was on a walk. And that was of before the Direct was going to come out. I was like, you know what?
02:09:23
Speaker
Going through the list of yeah franchises that haven't had three d games in a while. Donkey Kong, Kirby, Yoshi, hasn't ever had 3D. Kirby hasn't had a 3D really.
02:09:36
Speaker
I was like, okay, Kirby, you know what? We kind of had 3D-esque stuff in Air Ride. That would be awesome. So on that walk, this a while ago, but I did, I predicted it in my brain. So I know that I did it.
02:09:54
Speaker
well But I know Yoshi would be a wild card. it usually wouldn't be... Yoshi is usually attached to Mario, but I think they could do it.
02:10:06
Speaker
I think with the the the capability of them making Forgotten Land and now Bonanza, I think they could take Yoshi and put him in 3D and do a lot with his movement and the way he does stuff in 2D and make a game out of it. And I think that would be sick. I think that the Odyssey team, if they make a Yoshi game, it's the trifecta of Mario right there.
02:10:29
Speaker
Yeah. so i say they i So I say they should do it. um So, yeah, that's that's what I got. All right. Yoshi. Awesome. um Moving we on to your deals of the week. Your free games on Epic. From July 24th to 31st, you got Legion Tower Defense 2.

02:11:13

02:11:27
