00:00:27
Speaker
I am your host as always Tony14 and joining us this week is a season regular member of the Game Lounge crew, the most strategic member because of all the map games that he has played and has spent countless and timeless hours on. It's Sir Wiggles the Great.
00:00:45
Speaker
Hello. Wiggles welcome back. So many hours.

Sir Wiggles and Map Games

00:00:51
Speaker
so many hours and there's just more map games coming out around the like uh soon like uh what i mean one just came out uh that anno uh the new anno game came out yeah and i won seven seven yeah the roman one which looks really cool and if i do end up buying it i will probably never be seen again say that with a lot of games but uh you do you do say that with a lot of games but uh i don't buy those games very often
00:01:21
Speaker
ah For that reason. Well, welcome back. We've got a lot to cover today. ah are you ready to jump right into it, dude? Yes. Excellent.

PlayStation State of Play Highlights

00:01:32
Speaker
Well, we're starting off with our headline of the week, which is the PlayStation State of Play Japan edition for November 11th. This is essentially it focused on games more on the Japan side of things.
00:01:46
Speaker
ah There are a lot of them. I, I, most of them are probably international releases though. um But some of them might be Japan exclusive. ah so if you want to double check any of these games that are mentioned here, be sure to go check them out to see if they will be Japan exclusives. Only most of them are just just like maybe those odd, the odd j game names that you might not have heard of yet.
00:02:07
Speaker
But let's dive into it. They started off with more footage from Dragon Quest VII Reimagined, um which is the remake reimagining of Dragon Quest VII. It looks like they're adding a whole new story, another new story section as well. um They're adding a lot of new stuff into this game, which is really dope.
00:02:28
Speaker
Game comes up February 5th next year. ah We then got trailer for Inkobini, one store, many stories. um which comes out April next year. This is a convenience store simulator where you're running a convenience store, but all the people who come in like to have their own stories. and It looks very cozy. It's a very cozy convenience store game.
00:02:51
Speaker
um We got a new trailer for the new Coffee Talk Tokyo, which drops March 5th.

Game Trailers and Announcements

00:02:56
Speaker
And then two horror games um from the Broken Lore series, which I've never heard of until now, so might be bigger in Japan.
00:03:04
Speaker
um Broken Lore Unfollow, which comes out January 16th. And Broken Lore Ascend, which comes out ah summer 2026. We then got a new trailer and a dev interview for Fatal Frame 2 Crimson Butterfly Remake.
00:03:18
Speaker
ah The game comes out March 12th, 2026. And then we got the first look at the DLC for Dynasty Warriors Origins, the Visions of the Four Heroes DLC, which comes out January twenty second um We then got some more stuff regarding Gran Turismo 7. They showed off the power pack. All this stuff is set to release around the same time that the new update releases, which is sometime near the end of the year.
00:03:44
Speaker
um They didn't actually give a specific date. A little platformer called Motion Wreck was shown off, which comes out in spring. Wandering Sword, which comes out ah May 28th. This is an RPG based off or that takes place in ancient China.
00:04:01
Speaker
um Then we got the coolest news that I'm the most excited for. No sleep for Kaname. Day from I, the Somium Files, is coming to PlayStation systems February 26th next year.
00:04:13
Speaker
So I will get to finally replay that and platinum the game because I'm going to platinum the game because I didn't get to with the third one when I played it on stream because it was ah only on Switch and PC.
00:04:26
Speaker
So I didn't get the chance to to do that, which was unfortunate because I did it with the other two.

DLC and Updates

00:04:32
Speaker
They're fun times. They're fun games to do that. ah Also a new racing game, Tokyo Extreme Racer, coming February 26th.
00:04:39
Speaker
ah Once Upon a Katamari is getting two DLC. The Dance Dance remixes and Neo remixes, which I believe each song is a stage kind of thing for Katamari. I don't actually fully know because I've never played had a Katamari game.
00:04:54
Speaker
So if I do, I would tell you. But some DLC coming. Also, the Pac-Man World 2 repack Sonic the Hedgehog DLC is out now, so you can play Sonic levels in Pac-Man and fight Dr. Eggman as Pac-Man.
00:05:11
Speaker
uh and back that doesn't come out in sonic racing uh for a little while though still so we still gotta wait for the other crossover of this uh duology to happen uh the first dlc for digimon story time stranger uh was shown off pack one alternate dimension this will be adding five new digimon and coming out later this year in the winter Uh, Super Robot Wars Y is also receiving its first DLC, uh, November 21st, which is adding some common rider robots from what I could tell, ah which is cool.
00:05:45
Speaker
Monster Hunter Wilds title update four is coming December 16th, adding Gogmazios. Uh, we'll probably get more details on that from an official Capcom direct or something like that.
00:05:58
Speaker
Uh, closer to that. um And then we got an update on the new free characters coming to Sonic Race and Cross Worlds as we've got all the free characters currently. Well, the next three months are all filled up.
00:06:11
Speaker
Knights is coming in December. I.I. from Super Monkey Ball is coming in January.

New PlayStation Products Discussion

00:06:16
Speaker
And from the Sonic Comics... Tangle and Whisper.
00:06:21
Speaker
So that's neat. That's really cool. And the SpongeBob DLC adding SpongeBob Patrick and the Paddy Wagon and the brand new course drops November twentieth yeah Never Grave, The Witch and the Curse, a Metroidvania-type game, is coming out March 5th.
00:06:38
Speaker
BlazBlue Entropy Effect X, the roguelike that I know about because our boy Zach played the game a bit when it was still in early access or something like that, is coming to PlayStation 5 February twelfth Damon and Baby, we got a new little look at that. That's coming early 2026. Kyoren Makaism coming January 29th.
00:07:00
Speaker
A new demo is out now for Octopath Traveler Zero. The game drops December 4th. Marvel Tokon Fighting Souls is getting a no closed beta the first week of December.
00:07:12
Speaker
um You'll be able to play as Spider-Man in this and Ghost Rider. And they revealed to which Ghost Rider we're going to getting in Tokon Fighting Souls. We are getting Robbie Reyes, the one with the car.
00:07:24
Speaker
ah That Ghost Rider is who we are getting for Tokon instead of Johnny Blaze. um Elder Ring Night Reign announced the Forsaken Hollows DLC coming December 4th.
00:07:36
Speaker
And they also revealed that they're making an exclusive PlayStation monitor. Uh, but for, you cause, uh, for people that use, uh, that want just, uh, play it on a monitor, there's a PlayStation exclusive monitor that they're making.
00:07:53
Speaker
Uh, and they're also making an exclusive Japanese, ah a Japanese native Japanese in PlayStation five, uh, as well. Uh, and it's like much cheaper than all the other PlayStation fives, but like, it's only in Japanese um Japanese language. Um,
00:08:09
Speaker
And that was everything from the state of play. Any thoughts on any of that Wiggles? Why do we need a PlayStation official monitor? Well, we're getting like an official wireless or yeah, like an official speaker as well.
00:08:24
Speaker
That's like a wireless too. um mean, money's money is money. Money is money. And honestly, here's here's the thing. i I won't talk shit about the speakers because as a guy who uses his capture card and sometimes his capture card doesn't like running for a long time on his computer and it causes my computer to not want to turn off properly.
00:08:46
Speaker
i want that speaker so that way I can just plug those speakers in and not have to worry about

Kingdom Hearts 4 Speculation

00:08:53
Speaker
other things. And then I can keep my headphones in for my computer stuff. Fair.
00:08:57
Speaker
But ah yeah, that that was that. It was, was a doll. right It's all right. You don't think we don't, we never really expect much. A lot of people had high hopes for this one because ah earlier in the week, Haley Joel Osment tweeted that he was in the recording studio and a lot of people were thinking it's for kingdom hearts, which it very much might be.
00:09:20
Speaker
So people thought that we might've seen something for kingdom hearts for at this direct. Yeah. Oh, yeah. Okay. Yeah. I don't get my hopes up like that.
00:09:31
Speaker
No, I feel like i don't know much about like Kingdom Hearts these kind of releases, but i feel like something big like that is probably going to stay in the shadows till like they're going to do like a huge marketing push all at once.
00:09:46
Speaker
Yeah, know and that's that's what they did with 3. So like we got the one thing and then we didn't hear anything for 10 years. So yeah, so that's it's it's how they work. It's how it happens. Well, with that, it's time to dive into everything else that happened these past two weeks.

Weekly Review Segment

00:10:01
Speaker
Here's what happened with the week in review.
00:10:05
Speaker
Recapping the major stories of video games and the world of tabletop, looking over recent releases and reports from the Game Lounge crew, it's the week in review. Starting off with some of the major game releases, Hyrule Warriors Age of Imprisonment dropped for the Switch 2, Unbeatable came out, Lumines Arise, Call of Duty Black Ops 7, Goodnight Universe, and Anno 117 Pax Romana.
00:10:30
Speaker
Uh, Pax Romana looks like it's gonna be a good game. ah Call of Duty is Call of Duty. Yeah. But TC said something the other day about how he won't play Black Ops 7 because they did something stupid.
00:10:46
Speaker
I gotta find the clip. I think he came in on stream and said it. But Black Ops 7 looks bad. It looks very meh.
00:10:57
Speaker
It just looks like every other Call of Duty would just, oh, we've upped the graphics. cool. Oh, all right. Yeah. t TC ah said that they did an advertisement that very prominently featured the TSA.
00:11:11
Speaker
Oh, lovely.
00:11:15
Speaker
Lovely. First off, big news. ah While we won't be covering any of it this week, um next week's, or sorry, the next episode, we will be talking about the nominations for of the Game Awards because on Monday, the day that this episode comes out, all of the nominees for the Game Awards 2025 will be revealed.
00:11:41
Speaker
As we're getting into the actual gaming news, starting off, the Super Mario Galaxy movie released its first trailer. And it looks pretty good um with what we got to see.
00:11:53
Speaker
And we also got two new voice actors revealed as Bowser Jr. will be taking the lead villain role. um We got to see both Bowser Jr. and Rosalina in the trailer.
00:12:03
Speaker
And we got voice actors for you. Rosalina is being voiced by Brie Larson. You know, I think that's a good pick. Yeah, it's a good pick. Honestly, she sounds kind of good for the role.
00:12:16
Speaker
um And also in like an interview that she did in the past, ah she got mad at her boyfriend for calling it silly that she was trying to beat the last level of Mario Galaxy.
00:12:27
Speaker
And they had a fight about that. And she's like, no, fuck you. I'm going to beat this fucking game. You know what? Valid crash out. Valid crash out. and Bowser Jr. is being voiced by Benny Safdie.
00:12:40
Speaker
Now, for those who might not know who this is, ah recently, a ah recent role that he had that I can probably point people in the right direction.
00:12:51
Speaker
ah He played the villain of Happy Gilmore 2. Did you watch Happy Gilmore 2, Wiggles? No, I haven't. I kind of want to. i just it's scott i will say this. It's actually not bad. It's probably one of Sandler's best films in like a long while.
00:13:09
Speaker
But Benny Safdie plays the villain of that. ah And he's now playing Bowser Jr. Congrats to both of them and cannot wait for the movie to come out next year.
00:13:20
Speaker
In the layman's news of the century, Grand Theft Auto 6 has once again been delayed. It is no longer coming out in May.
00:13:31
Speaker
And they changed all the trailers to reflect the new release date of November 19th, 2026. Is this really a surprise? Is this really news?
00:13:44
Speaker
Is this really news? I mean, yes, because literally every gaming outlet had to cover this. Well, of course, it's GTA 6 being delayed. It was the same with GTA 5.
00:13:57
Speaker
Now, let's be real here. Is this game going to on November 19th, 2026 and have to wait a full year to get nominated for a Game of the Year award?
00:14:08
Speaker
Because I am pretty sure, because we're looking at it right now, but not if this year the nominations are being announced on the 17th of November 2025, and they are really announced around the same time next year, GTA 6 doesn't get nominated for Game of the Year next year.
00:14:29
Speaker
It gets nominated for Game of the Year 2027. So I'm going to tell you this, GTA 6 is going to get delayed to spring 2027, folks. It's not coming out next year.
00:14:40
Speaker
Go play other games. GTA 6, it's not coming out next year. ah You got your hopes up. If it actually comes out next year, it's not winning game of the year next year.
00:14:52
Speaker
It's not going to win game of the year 2027. it might be a doomed thing for gta 6 i don't have my hopes for this game but now granted i'm not really i was never hyped for gta i like i'm excited like the average person im like oh it'll be it'll be fun when it comes out probably i'm just not that hyped for the game yeah i haven't seen a whole bunch of hype for it but maybe it's just because it's been like so long and people are just kind of laying low but i they could have a chance at winning game of the year if they do their pc release right so let's say they does come out on november 19th 2026 which i don't think it will i think it's going to go into 2027 but if they do the pc release like middle of the year after that instead of waiting a year like they do with gta 5 they might have a chance you know what valid valid valid point and if they did do that then yes i think they might actually have a chance
00:15:50
Speaker
um but f if if it doesn't come if the PC version of the game doesn't come out until like another year after that, then yeah GTA 6 of ever taking home the coveted Game of the Year award will not happen, at least at the Game Awards.
00:16:09
Speaker
No, it'll probably get nominated, I don't think it It would get nominated for sure, long as like there aren't six other things that come out that just beat it out of the park, you know? Yeah.
00:16:21
Speaker
Because very possible that happens. Yeah. With how great how good indie games are starting to get, very possible it happens. Moving on to some Pokemon news, Pokemon Legends ZA will be releasing its DLC December 10th, the Mega Dimension.
00:16:38
Speaker
um They had a nice little five three to five minute video talking all about it. um We got two new Mega Pokemon revealed. Mega Chimecho and Mega Baxcalibur were revealed.
00:16:50
Speaker
ah We learned that Hoopa is accompanied by this little girl named Ancha, who people are like, oh, is this person related to Diantha a little bit? Because there's like a similarity there.
00:17:02
Speaker
Possibly you make donuts. Huh? Yeah. You make donuts, feed them to Hoopa. Hoopa is then ah full of energy to open his portals and send you to the Mega Dimension.
00:17:17
Speaker
And then it's sort of like a roguelike mode where you're in the Mega Dimension collecting stuff, battling and catching stuff on a time limit. And then you return and bada bing bada boom. That's rinse and repeat.
00:17:31
Speaker
um We also get the return of Corinna, the third gym leader of x and Y. um And for the first time ever in Pokemon history, Pokemon will be over level 100. Sacrilege.
00:17:47
Speaker
sacrilege Sacrilege indeed. Scary as fuck. ah And no, it looks cool. I got the DLC myself. I'm very excited to play ah once December 10th happens. i've i've Because honestly, i've been I've really liked Legend Z. guy I think it's actually one of the best game, Pokemon games on the Switch, if not the second. I would say maybe like the ah the Legend games, honestly, I don't think they they haven't missed.
00:18:16
Speaker
um With the Legend games. Both of them have been very great. So good job Pokemon. You you did good. There are things you could have done to make the game better. But it's a very solid game.
00:18:28
Speaker
But good job. So good job. ah In some holiday news, November 7th, because you know it's a holiday for every Mass Effect fan, ah No Man's Sky added the SSV Normandy to the game.
00:18:43
Speaker
ah you can ah Players can earn the ship until the 18th of November ah by completing the Beachhead Expedition mission. So if you're listening to this on the Monday, just know that you have until Tuesday to get yourself the ship before it's gone. It'll probably come back, though, in like a year.
00:19:05
Speaker
Same type of thing. So I may have downloaded the game from my e Steam family, Shareless, to get the ship before we do Sky Summer. Yeah. it all Yeah.
00:19:16
Speaker
It's also a good time to bring up. Hey guys, we're playing a no man's sky like all December long. So I haven't actually bought the game, but so I'm stealing my brother's copy through the steam.
00:19:27
Speaker
Nice. Also speaking of mass effect, we'll be talking a little bit more about this in depth later, but Bioware executive producer, Mike Gamble confirmed that the mass effect show being worked on by Amazon We'll be exploring a brand new story within the universe's timeline and will be set after the original trilogy.
00:19:47
Speaker
We'll be talking more about this later on in the show. Uh, in Grammy news, five video games were nominated for a Grammy for best soundtrack for video games and other interactive media.
00:20:00
Speaker
Helldivers to Indiana Jones and the great circle sword of the sea avatar frontiers of Pandora secret of the spires and star Wars outlaws wild card and a pirate's fortune.
00:20:13
Speaker
Any thoughts on those nominations? Helldivers 2 soundtrack is pretty based. I haven't heard any of the other games. Soundtrack Star Wars is probably going to be pretty on par with the other Star Wars games.
00:20:27
Speaker
ah Indiana Jones... If John Williams did the Indiana Jones music for that game, which I doubt he did, because man's ancient, then it'd be great. but ah Yeah.
00:20:40
Speaker
I also i find it funny that the three of the five that are nominated for a Grammy are like, oh, these properties, ah the masses already know.
00:20:52
Speaker
ah and these the other two are just there but honestly I think there was better games that have released within the last year that have better soundtracks I'm surprised that Claire Obscure wasn't nominated for that because Claire Obscure was the number one classical fucking album for like weeks on end yeah wasn't now I'm surprised that wasn't nominated for a Grammy but I digress uh netflix and a24 are teaming up to bring overcooked the manic multiplayer cooperative cooking game to television uh their adaptation of ghost town games frantic cook about franchise will arrive in the form of an unscripted competition series so that's pretty entertaining that'll be pretty entertaining
00:21:44
Speaker
Yeah, no I think it would too. ah EA is in the news even more. They're saying that they will maintain creative control and its track record of creative freedom and player first values ah under its planned new ownership.
00:22:00
Speaker
That's according to an updated employee focused FAQ that addresses questions about culture change coming as part of their um private privatization. Only having more on ah that later on as well.
00:22:14
Speaker
Publisher NetEase is making more cuts into its ah internal development teams, including shutting Fantastic Pixel Castle, ah according to Studio Head and Game Director Greg st Street, that's being shut down. a Fantastic Pixel Castle was founded in 2023 and led by Street, an influential designer on both World of Warcraft at Blizzard and League of Legends at Riot Games.
00:22:38
Speaker
So unfortunate to see another studio get closed down like that. Sad. ah In lawsuit news, streamer Jesse Caheen, known online as Every Game Guru, has been in a legal battle with Nintendo for streaming pirated material.
00:22:56
Speaker
Caheen, who repeatedly taunted the company throughout the lawsuit, once stated he could do this all day. However, a Colorado federal judge has decided, well, no, we're not going to do this all day.
00:23:07
Speaker
and has forced him to pay Nintendo $17,500 in damages as a final verdict. Blueprints developer Dogubomb has appealed to the puzzle roguelike and Dark Horse Game of the Year candidates fan base for life-saving assistance.
00:23:23
Speaker
One of Blueprints' lead playtesters, Matthew Iggy Kowalski, needs a kidney transplant from a living donor ah sometime within the next few months. So you can help out by checking out Dogu Bomb's Twitter and spreading the word um to help Iggy get a kidney.
00:23:41
Speaker
So go do your part, gamers. it Help save a life. In Roblox news, the Let's Sue Roblox bandwagon has grown even bigger.
00:23:53
Speaker
Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton has announced that he's filed suit against the company now for flagrantly ignoring state and federal online safety laws while deceiving parents about the dangers of its platform.
00:24:06
Speaker
Roblox, of course, has denied the claim, saying the Texas lawsuit is based on misrepresentations and sensationalized claims. It's not. That's kind of big, actually.
00:24:19
Speaker
This is the third state, I think, to sue them now. I know, but still, that's... That's Texas, too. Usually they don't dive into, like, this kind of stuff. yeah like Protect the children. Just shut down Roblox.
00:24:33
Speaker
It's easy. Just shut it down. Save everybody the headache. Shut it down. um In more delayment news, Marvel 1943 Rise of Hydra has been delayed to beyond early 2026. Uh...
00:24:46
Speaker
ah And also, despite the GTA delay, Devolver is hell-bent on releasing a game on the same day as GTA 6. Quoting to the press, you can't escape us.
00:25:01
Speaker
ah Good for you, Devolver. i believe in you guys. In a new Minecraft mod, Creepers now require consent before exploding. Yeah, saw that.
00:25:13
Speaker
It was kind funny. It was really funny. It's funny. So basically how the mod works, when the creeper is about to explode on you, ah the game will freeze and a pop-up message will appear saying, hey, do you want this creeper to explode in your face right now?
00:25:26
Speaker
And you can select yes or no. And it's rather funny. Pokemon Pocopia released a new trailer and also now has a release date of March 5th. ah Valve is in the news as they announced three new pieces of hardware that are shipping early 2026.
00:25:44
Speaker
The new Steam controller, which has two trackpads, gyro, grip buttons, HD haptics, and everything else you want in the controller. ah The Steam frame, which is a new VR headset that's also a PC.
00:25:57
Speaker
And the Steam machine. It's a cube. but And it's also a computer and it's also runs steam on your television.
00:26:08
Speaker
As many of memes and said, it's the Gabe cube. but Yeah, it is. It the Gabe cube. um It's cool. It's we don't know what their prices are yet, though. um If anything, they'll probably be priced similarly to the steam deck.
00:26:25
Speaker
Most likely. So it's a wait and see on the prices. um In game mode settings, Silent Hill F is getting a new casual difficulty setting. And in PlayStation Sony news, a mobile Ratchet & Clank game was revealed called Ratchet & Clank Ranger Rumble, and a brand new and MMO Horizon game, Horizon Steel Frontiers, were announced.
00:26:48
Speaker
Neither are releasing on PlayStation, um as Ranger Rumble is a mobile game, but and the MMO will be released on PC and mobile. like Is this Horizon? I'll get in West.
00:27:02
Speaker
Zero Dawn. They're making MMO. It is getting an MMO. That's kind of dope, actually. It's neat. I just don't like the Horizon franchise.
00:27:15
Speaker
I tried playing. I can't get into Zero Dawn. And... it just hey I will say, like, ah fair point, I will say, Zero Dawn took me a little bit to actually get into the game, but then once I got to like a certain point, I'm like, I got it.
00:27:32
Speaker
i got I see the appeal. I got it. ah fair and fair enough Fair enough. ah Your ongoing game news starting off with FFXIV. The Moogle Treasure Trove is back starting November 18th, going until the patch 7.4.
00:27:47
Speaker
or a brand new mount and hairstyles have been added into the Mog Station. And Graha Tia's English voice actor, Jonathan Bailey, who also stars in the new Wicked movies, has been named the sexiest man alive by People Magazine.
00:28:04
Speaker
and Which means that the sexiest Catboy in Aorzea is Graha Tia, according to People Magazine. Damn.
00:28:15
Speaker
In Fortnite Epic Games news, Kill Bill is coming to Fortnite soon, and so is the Pussy Wagon. the The vehicle from the movie. Which didn't it was called the Pussy Wagon.
00:28:26
Speaker
Which means it's probably coming to Rocket League too, because everything Fortnite's been doing has been happening in Rocket League as well. Pussy wagon and rocket league. Let's go. Uh,
00:28:39
Speaker
in blizzard news, that the December 2nd patch for world of Warcraft, uh, will be the patch that adds player housing into the game. ah in e-sports news, uh, T1 took home the league of legends world championship again.
00:28:54
Speaker
I think this makes this, uh, fakers like seventh or eighth, uh, world series that they've won now. ah So congrats to them. i don't watch League of Legends or play it.
00:29:05
Speaker
I just saw that it happened. Good for them. In the world of TCG, starting with Pokemon, the Mega Evolution Phantasmal Flames are out now. And according to some posts ah online, it looks like Walmart will be limiting the number of Pokemon packs and boxes that you'll be able to buy in stores to five a person.
00:29:28
Speaker
You know what? That's fair. I understand the scalper problem is like huge everywhere right now. So... Yeah. In Yu-Gi-Oh! news, in the TCG, the like legendary Deez decks are out now, and Phantom Revenge drops on December 3rd.

00:30:18

Like, i know slime was really popular. so yeah i get it why I get the slime I don't but I do you know like it's like i i feel like it's like play the do the new kind of play-doh yeah ah but Battleship and Trivial Pursuit that was well deserved yes congra special Trivial Pursuit especially because like that game is very much not that ah kid friendly
00:30:50
Speaker
Depends on the Trivial Pursuit. Yeah, Trivial Pursuit. It's not very kid-friendly with all the trivia. Like, with ah which trivia? You gotta be, like, smart for that game. You gotta be loaded up with all, like, random knowledge that nobody else knows.
00:31:05
Speaker
Yeah. I'm weirdly good at certain Trivial Pursuits. Yeah. yeah and With that, that is everything that happened in the past two weeks. Any final thoughts on any of those Wiggles?
00:31:18

00:33:39
Speaker
Okay, that's cool. Yeah, it's cool. The new SpongeBob SquarePants game Titans of the Tide. This is now going to be the third game developed by Purple Lamp Studios.
00:33:50
Speaker
I'm excited for it. The last two have been solid. The first one, of course, was the Battle of Herbicini Bottom remake. The second one, the Cosmic Shake was good. ah so I'm excited to see what they do with this third one.
00:34:03
Speaker
The My Sims Cozy Bundle now no longer a Switch exclusive is cool. Don't know if I'm going to get it because the first My Sims is absolute ass and Kingdom is goaded.
00:34:17
Speaker
So it's very like it's like very it's a very much a dual ended sword. You have a great game and you have a shit game. Yeah, I don't know much about The Sims in its current renditions. Yeah.
00:34:33
Speaker
my sims was what if we made the sims all chibi like and square headed oh so it's like a more modern animal crossing ripoff sort of it's old actually my sims hasn't been around for years actually ok I totally missed that. it's it's it's Yeah, it's like it's a return. it's It was like a nice little, hey, we brought like these two games back.
00:34:58
Speaker
yeah it was It was like a whole thing. There was like My Sims Agents, Spies, a racing game, and a party game as well. and Okay. ah Kirby Air Riders, that's really the biggest game out of all here. It's the new Air Ride.
00:35:12
Speaker
It's Kirby. It's fantastic. I'm so excited. Yeah, Kirby! Yeah! I love Kirby games, but I haven't played any since Game Boy. don't have a Switch. I'm excited for Air Rides 2. What can I say?
00:35:28
Speaker
ah but i've heard people are I've heard a couple people are excited for the new Terminator game, oddly enough. I have not heard anything about it, but when I was doing this, I saw a thing of like a lot of people are saying, like yeah, I'm excited for the new Terminator. i'm like, really?
00:35:45
Speaker
I have not heard anything about this game. Yeah, I've heard shockingly little about it. It's coming out on everything, too. So, like, it might be a good, it might be a hit.
00:35:59
Speaker
Who knows? Yeah, we'll just have to watch. We'll have to wait and see. And of course, if you have a mobile device, go play the new Duck Detective game. The Ghost of Glamping is great. It's just as good as the first one.
00:36:12
Speaker
yeah Yeah, Duck Detective. I love the Duck Detective. He's great. He has a clack button. what What more do you want? The answer to that is nothing.
00:36:27
Speaker
I was going to say a fishing minigame, but... Oh, you know, i hard to do in a game like that. I know. Look, if PlanetSide 2 can put in a fishing minigame, anyone can do it, okay? Okay.
00:36:40
Speaker
true The sled game did it. Yeah. And the sled game is good coming to is going to be on Xbox as well, which is nuts. um I'm so excited for that guy. that that That guy, legit, I'm so excited for that guy. like he's he's He's just out here making a sled game.
00:36:57
Speaker
He's doing... and It's going to be on Xbox now. I want to get him on the podcast. Yo, sledding game developer, if you're listening to this, come come on the Tony's Game Lounge podcast.
00:37:10
Speaker
I'd love to have you on. Do it. Do it. I think with that, it's now time for us to move on to our main focus. ah Here is what we are discussing this week in the Game Lounge.
00:37:24
Speaker
Conversations of past and future games, the state of the gaming industry, how big decisions affect gamers, and anything else that's important to us. Here's what's going down this week in the Game Lounge. And our first topic of the day is the EA buyout.
00:37:40
Speaker
So obviously the EA buyout is a little bit old news, but there's some what we've mentioned earlier in the show here, some new related news that's going work. Yeah, related news. Basically, we're talking a lot of things EA, essentially. The buyout to what some of their franchises have been up to and a bunch of stuff. Because, you know, Wiggles does, as much as we all dislike EA, Wiggles has some games that he likes in there.
00:38:10
Speaker
I have a history with EA that's long and trialed and... Yeah. So Wiggles, let's start with this. what were you What are your thoughts on EA being bought out and going private now?
00:38:23
Speaker
Honestly, I don't think anything much is going to change. um Other than they're going to be... think it'll open the door for EA developers to have a little bit more control on how they make games, which could be a good thing. um The owners, however, could be typical like ah shareholder type deal where the ah money men want to get involved more and not let developers do what they want to do.
00:38:54
Speaker
So all I think is going to be a weird balancing act ah between the new owners and the dev teams to figure out how EA is going to move forward.
00:39:06
Speaker
But I don't think much is going to change. Okay. Seeing who has bought EA kind of gives me that indication that EA is just going to be business as usual. ah Yeah. Seeing the who. Ah, let's but let's look at that. Who Saudi Arabia.
00:39:22
Speaker
Yeah, it's ah Saudi Arabia's, oh what is it, their investment side that the Crown Prince runs. ah Silver Lake, a US-backed fund by Jared Kushner, I think is the head of that.
00:39:38
Speaker
Yeah. Um, so I don't think, like, I know there was a big thing, like, the whole moral values argument that what's gonna happen to certain studios and games because of that, but honestly, the Saudi firm, they've been diving right into the esports side of things, which is why I think they were very interested in EA for the FIFA stuff. Oh, so so they more or less acquired EA because football...
00:40:07
Speaker
Yeah, because the like they host and control a bunch of esports teams, and I think they wanted to get into the space more on a profit level, and I think that's what their motive is behind it. plus It's a little bit politic-y, but I think it's also more PR. It's like, hey, look how modernized we are while trying to cloud the fact that they have tons of human rights abuses. Look at how look at how look at how shiny we look.
00:40:37
Speaker
Look at Mr. Beastland. so But I'm not really worried about the games in the studios being affected in a moral situation because really, if it makes them money, they're not going to care.
00:40:52
Speaker
that and that's fair because that is kind of really all they care about at the end of the day ah do you think we will see other massive publishers try to go this way especially with reports being that ubisoft uh is in the news uh saying as earlier today earlier this week actually saying that they like stopped all share trading uh I should have been more aware of that. I thought I saw something mentioned in that. Hold on. Let me find, because I saw Jeff Keighley tweet it.
00:41:27
Speaker
Let me find that. To me, it's like if EBS stuff stopped all trading. Abruptly, yeah, November 13th. Abruptly at the last minute, Ubisoft has halted trading of its shares and postponed its earnings call today.
00:41:43
Speaker
This may suggest that material news about the company and its future trajectory is imminent. I'm wondering less if they got bought out and more if they might have to declare bankruptcy. Oh, yeah.
00:41:56
Speaker
Because Ubisoft has not been doing so hot the last few years. Yeah, that's a whole other thing. um But I don't like the EA, I think is I don't think more publicly traded studios will go this way because of like If the EA size studios, I just say because of how much money was dropped to buy out the studio, there is not a lot of people that have that kind of capital.
00:42:24
Speaker
Like not a lot of firms that have that kind of capital lying around. It was $55 billion. Yeah.
00:42:31
Speaker
Yeah, it was, it was ah but yeah we saw that, and like, holy fucking shit! so they've that is this it's is it's sayss a It's a bigger buyout than Microsoft and Blizzard!
00:42:43
Speaker
Yeah, so it's... Something finally topped it! Yeah, so it's kind of a big deal in the terms of money. like that I think it was, what, $210 a share. So to do something like to try to buy out a public company like that without having a ton of extra backing is incredibly difficult to do.
00:43:01
Speaker
Oh, yeah, no i absolutely. like yeah We saw like just like the pushback that it was for i mean Microsoft by um attaining Blizzard.
00:43:13
Speaker
And yeah, well... Just even on that note, um that the EA buyout is not official, and it won't be official probably till first, I've been seeing first quarter 2027. wow, really?
00:43:27
Speaker
Yeah, for a buyout this big, they have to go through a bunch regulatory hurdles. um And basically, like I think like the SEC has to do an investigation, and they have to also look at, is this going to create a monopoly or not?
00:43:41
Speaker
have but Well, mean, we can answer that one. No. No. But there's a bunch of checks and balances that have to go through um because if one company buys another company and it ends up creating some kind of business power imbalance, usually that company has to sell off a part of the asset in order to complete the buyout.
00:44:06
Speaker
Yeah. I don't know if that's going to be the case with the EA thing. i don't think there's I don't think there's a ton of room for Monopoly, but they have to go through all this checks and balances. They have to go through ah bunch of, no, what's the word?
00:44:23
Speaker
ah Just a bunch of financial like tracking to make sure that, hey, the money's here. This is how it's going to move. All that kind of kind of stuff. Right, right, right, right. Yeah, I think a big thing that they're going to have, like the biggest hurdle will be when they have to look at the sports licenses for that, because I feel like with EA having all those licenses for like essentially like a good amount of the sports games with all of this, that those are going to be involved in some way too then, right?
00:44:55
Speaker
but Of whether or not they could still hold on to those with this? potentially but i don't think that's going to be much of an issue ea already ea itself already owns the licenses i think it's just going to be like a transfer like i think an ea i think is still going to continue being its own entity it's just yeah private not public anymore well it might change things might change again it's so if the or in the earliest is quarter one 2027 Yeah, there'll be probably some completing of documents and financing. Q4 2026 deal will wrap up 2027 first quarter.
00:45:33
Speaker
Yeah, that's as long as there aren't any hiccups with it as well. Yeah, and there there could be more news that comes up. Oh, I will be here to cover all of it because that's what we do here in the game lounge. Ayo.
00:45:48
Speaker
Yeah. Continuing on EA's backside and going into their specific game series, ah Battlefield 6 came out. You've played Battlefield 6. How is it?
00:46:00
Speaker
I've played the beta. Oh, you've played the beta. haven't actually bought Battlefield 6 yet. ah Battlefield 6, all in all, from what I've seen and then what what I play in the beta, it's a good game.
00:46:13
Speaker
um Obviously, I was playing in the beta, so when it came to bugs and stuff, there were a few hiccups, which I hope they ironed out for the release. And from what I've seen watching streams and shorts and videos on it, it seems like they've done a very good job of cleaning it up.
00:46:27
Speaker
It's been very successful. Seven million copies sold in the first three days. Damn. that's That's good. Yeah, that's good. i mean battle of battlefields but Battlefield's been in a rocky patch for a little bit.
00:46:39
Speaker
Yeah, the Battlefield 5 was bad.
00:46:45
Speaker
Battlefield 2042 was real bad.
00:46:50
Speaker
ah Battlefield 1, I think a lot of people liked it. I personally did not enjoy it all that much. um It was a smooth game mechanically wise. i didn't notice much for like bad mechanics or bugs or anything. i just, the game didn't feel, i think the World War I element was did not fit a Battlefield game very well at all.
00:47:14
Speaker
Fair. ah But with Battlefield 2, there was that Battlefield 2, was it there? There was 2042 Battlefield
00:47:27
Speaker
Wasn't there a World War II Battlefield? Oh, that was Battlefield V. Oh, that that that was just V. Oh, i thought it was I thought there was, after they did Battlefield I, I thought they were, am i having a Mandela effect happen? Hold on. You may be having a Mandela effect happening. Yeah, that Battlefield V was the World War II one.
00:47:43
Speaker
It was supposed, like, it looked like it was going to be really good. It ended up not being all that good at all. um ah but ah that It just didn't 2042 A lot of DLCs for Battlefield 2042 Yeah 2042 was the most previous game What oh okay yeah I am having a huge Manjela effect okay They did do it there was like a 2042 they did the ah Kind of the world builder type thing Then the world war 2 Stuff was a big part of that But it didn't take Yeah
00:48:20
Speaker
ah But Battlefield 6, I think, like, I haven't bought the game yet. I've been waiting for it to go on sale because as much as I love Battlefield, I don't think it's worth the price tag.
00:48:31
Speaker
Yeah, because what? That's a $90 Canadian Steam? Yeah, $89.99, think. Which means it's $100 console. Yeah, eighty nine ninety nine i think yeah which means it's a hundred canadian on console yeah so If you're going to play, my recommendation is if you're going to get into the Battlefield 6, wait until it goes on sale like I'm going to do.
00:48:56
Speaker
Yeah. ah Because it is like playing the beta and stuff, it was really a enjoyable game. And i that just looking at everything that I've seen news-wise, it looks like it's been a very good success for Battlefield 6.
00:49:11
Speaker
Plus, with the release of the Battle Royale, it has been very entertaining to watch the the COD stans just a whinge about a Battlefield Red Sick. So what exactly well what exactly is the difference between this battle royale to others? How does it compare?
00:49:27
Speaker
I think what you've seen. Destructible environment. oh Oh. I think it's about like the biggest thing. So it's like Fortnite, where everything is destructible.
00:49:40
Speaker
Yeah, kind of, but it's very Battlefield. the like in terms I'm not a big Battle Royale person yeah to begin with. I've played a few when they were like early on, like early PUBG and like eight early Apex Legends.
00:49:54
Speaker
Yeah. But RedSec, it definitely just looks like it's trying to compete with Warzone. And obviously, because it's a Battlefield game. It looks okay if you're into Battle Royales. It looks pretty good.
00:50:08
Speaker
um If you're expecting it to be Call of Duty Warzone, like all these COD TikTokers and influencers I'm seeing, it's not. It very much plays like a Battlefield game. and Yeah. Yeah, and I feel like it would.
00:50:21
Speaker
Also, don't camp in the corners of the buildings, you little shits, because a Bradley will roll through that wall and squish you. and It's funny. He's very funny to see. that's it's funny That's funny, actually. That is genuinely funny.
00:50:37
Speaker
Yeah, that was like the more most recent TikTok complaint from some person that plays Call of Duty. It was a Warzone streamer that was playing RedSec and thought hiding in a building was a good idea.
00:50:51
Speaker
It's not. It never is. ah ah The one battle royale that being inside is not a good not a good thing. Not when there's a tank on the field.
00:51:03
Speaker
Womp womp. But from what I've seen, Redseq seems to be a good success for Battlefield 2, so good on them. Nice.
00:51:14
Speaker
ah Nice, nice, nice. ah Going into the third and final thing, obviously the thing that you're the most passionate about, I think. Yes. Knowing the Viggles, it's but Mass Effect news.
00:51:27
Speaker
yeah Yeah. So we know that there's been a new game for, that they've been working on a new game for a while now. Have we gotten any new news We got a little bit of news from N7 Day.
00:51:46
Speaker
Not a ton other than that they're still working on it. um Mike Gamble didn't say where they were at in the process, so you can still assume that they're in pre-production. Gotcha.
00:51:59
Speaker
But it's also the only game BioWare is working on at the moment. Oh, okay. So that basically it's now full steam ahead on a max of Mass Effect IP. Okay, that's cool.
00:52:11
Speaker
If it's in pre-prod, then I feel like we might get a title drop then. but like Just like a title drop ah at the Game Awards of like, hey, here's what's next.
00:52:27
Speaker
Maybe. And that would be it. That would probably be all we know. I don't know if you're going to see anything in Game Awards, personally. yeah I don't know if you're going to see anything. There's also like Yeah, you probably won't see anything until like N7 Day next year.
00:52:41
Speaker
Ooh. Honestly. Ooh. Unless there's another big like gamer event that the BioWare decides to release something, but I i doubt it. um I think they're being a little bit vague on this for now, intentionally.
00:52:59
Speaker
Yeah, I think especially after Dragon Age, not Inquisition, Veilguard happened. Yeah. Yeah.
00:53:11
Speaker
So yeah, we were talking about like the morals and values things of Bioware, and then mentioning Veilguard. This is ah probably Bioware's last chance, honestly, as a studio.
00:53:26
Speaker
Ha ha ha ha! Yeah! Because if they fuck up the Mass Effect IP, they're done. They're cooked. They're roasted. Re-quote, if they fuck up the Mass Effect IP more, you More, yeah. The thing is with, like, ah Drop It Eye still is a weak game, but they did fix a lot of it in the end. They kind of cyberpunked their way out of it a little bit.
00:53:51
Speaker
A little bit. But yeah, no, this is definitely their... their make or break for yeah because they didn't they didn't end up releasing a whole bunch of numbers and i understand why because i think they lost their shirt over veil guard yeah so hopefully i like yeah hopefully hopefully they do what needs to be done to make the game great um i i don't want to put any hopes or expectations on it um
00:54:28
Speaker
But with EA going private, I think they the devs, if that if the new comp owners let the devs do what the devs want to do, I think it'll be a good release.
00:54:41
Speaker
So we can hope on that, that they no longer have to, you know, make shareholders happy. Yeah. Hopefully. Hopefully.
00:54:54
Speaker
Hopefully. ah What about the TV series? are you looking forward to about this? we we Since we got more detail, ah the vague detail about it, like it's happening after the trilogy.
00:55:06
Speaker
Yes. ah You know me and you know ah ah what is it? The did TV show of certain like certain IPs. I p ah think I probably mentioned how much I don't really like it when they do that at all because they always screw it up.
00:55:24
Speaker
look at you know, The Witcher and and Halo. I mean, yeah so yeah. Yeah. You look at those two and it's like a bit, I mean, the first two seasons of Witcher were good.
00:55:35
Speaker
They were pretty good, but they deviated away from the books right at the beginning of season two. Okay, okay. Again, I i know like zero things about the Witcher, aside from Geraltta Rivera.
00:55:47
Speaker
Pass a coin to your Witcher. Spoiler alert for season two, they killed off Eskel right away, so that was disappointing. I have no clue who that is. Eskel is one of the Witcher buddies of Geralt.
00:55:59
Speaker
There's another school of the wolf Witcher. ah Who is very much alive in the books. What about the games? And he's very much alive in the games.
00:56:11
Speaker
Cool. ah but Damn. i Yeah, we don't talk about the Halo series. The Halo series was bad, and it should feel bad. But blue i be but we have the Fallout series, that's good.
00:56:25
Speaker
The Fallout series actually was good. I went in with a very low bar, so I was pleasantly surprised with how good it was. there's a few I have a few criticisms story-wise. um Art-wise, directing-wise, casting-wise, I think the whole TV series was great.
00:56:40
Speaker
Nice. um Story-wise, I'm sitting there because you know big in playing New Vegas and whatnot. I'm like, okay, now they have to canonize things from the New Vegas game. And what are they going to do?
00:56:55
Speaker
And then they blew up the NCR for some reason. I don't know why they needed to do that. They probably could have done the same story without killing off an entire faction that was super important to the New Vegas story.
00:57:08
Speaker
but Well, ill i I still haven't played Fallout 3 or New Vegas, so can't say. Fair. But I am excited for Season 2 when that comes out.
00:57:20
Speaker
Yeah. ah With the Mass Effect series, uh... Honestly, i think as long as they, you know, so don't as long as they don't touch the Shepard storyline at all.
00:57:32
Speaker
Yeah, I think it'll be fine. Yeah, and I mean, the sound of it, they're I don't think they're going to touch it. I think with something in the blog post, they wanted to post it like somewhere so far in the future that like the Shepard timeline is like almost a legend.
00:57:50
Speaker
yeah it's It's forgotten, almost forgotten, but it's like ancient history type thing. So if they do that, perfect. You could do whatever you want, really, with the story. And as long as you make the universe, like show the universe and don't like cheap out on acting and yeah special effects like they did with the Lord of Rings show.
00:58:11
Speaker
yeah yeah you'll be fine yeah no absolutely do you have any like um fan casts any you like people that you would like to see see cast in the show in some way shape or form oh uh sorry i just have to pull up names because i forget the last names because not obviously with this being like not a part of shepherd's story so like obviously it'll be it wouldn't be able to use like any of the any he returning characters realistically I think the only returning character that they could use would be Liara, because Asari, if you know the lore, Asari and Mass Effect are really long-lived species, like thousand plus years old.
00:58:51
Speaker
Okay, so that would like be the only one. Yeah, which I kind of expect her, like, they showed the teaser trailer Liara for the the new game, so I'm assuming she's going to play a very important role in the new game, and I kind of hope so, because that would be kind of cool.
00:59:07
Speaker
um But she could probably make an appearance in the show depending on like when they set it yeah or what they're doing with it, which would be yeah that'd be cool. I'd be all right with it.
00:59:18
Speaker
Nice. Yeah. um I don't know if I would like have any specific casting. There's a lot of actors and directors that I like that would probably fit in well. um Since the far future thing, you can't really pair to who should play what character or what.
00:59:33
Speaker
But a cameo from like Jennifer Hale or Mark Meir, which is the voice actors for Shepard, male-female versions, yeah that that would be kind of a cool cameo, just to throw in there.
00:59:46
Speaker
Yeah, you know what? That would be a cool cameo. ah that You're right about that. No, absolutely. i was ah was going to ask, because the Martin Sheen lended his voice in the games, too, as...
01:00:04
Speaker
that really old guy, right? Uh, Machine, Mass Effect. you play Oh, yeah, he played the Elusive Man. Is he still alive? Is Martin Machine alive still? Because I i i just don't know.
01:00:17
Speaker
I want to confidently say yes, but I'm also going to quickly he just... yeah
01:00:26
Speaker
Yeah, Martin Sheen's very much alive. Yeah, maybe you have... I don't know. It'd be cool to have, like, if there's like ah ever, like, a... Maybe maybe have have him return for a cameo. That would be cool.
01:00:37
Speaker
That'd be cool. I just... I still haven't played the games. Yeah. Martin Sheen's role as the elusive man was very good. Like, I... Obviously, I'm a major fanboy of Mass Effect, so you could take my opinions with a grain of salt a little bit.
01:00:52
Speaker
But I think the casting for the voice actors in... the Mass Effect Shepard series specifically, was on point through and through. I don't think there was a bad pick for casting at all.
01:01:05
Speaker
There's a couple characters I don't like, but if you're looking at story and like you know personalities or voices that go with the characters, they were all very well done. Yeah, they didn't they didn't miss a beat with it.
01:01:18
Speaker
Yeah, exactly. yeah no ah You know what? I want to see John Boyega...
01:01:26
Speaker
Put them in a good space series, why don't ya? John Boyega, yes. I have a lot of criticisms with the Star Wars. I think anybody who knows me knows this, but I think as much as John Boyega's character Finn was garbage, I think they did him dirty, and he needs a chance, goddammit.
01:01:47
Speaker
Give him a light sword in Mass Effect if they exist in the universe, because I don't know. Kinda. They kind of exist. all right I give him that and then all is redeemed. Hollywood.
01:02:00
Speaker
All is redeemed. As long as you don't like make him play a flashback as the character Jacob or anything, you should be fine. Nobody likes Jacob. Understandably, Jacob's kind of a dick.
01:02:13
Speaker
Gotcha. Gotcha. ah Is there anything else you want to add about anything else EA related? EA related?
01:02:24
Speaker
Sure.
01:02:28
Speaker
Bring back Westwood Studios so I can get a new Command & Conquer game, goddammit. ah You heard it, folks. Bring back Command & Conquer or Wiggles will riot.
01:02:41
Speaker
Damn right. Todd. Buddy. Why? No one asked for this. What you gave us also broke everything. You even took the song away from us.
01:02:55
Speaker
just Just give us what we want and we will pay you money for it. Please, please, please, please give the Oblivion treatment to New Vegas. That's all we want.
01:03:06
Speaker
Sound good? Okay, great. Thanks. All right. Well, with that, it's time for us to move on to our second topic of the of the day. And my first question to you, Wiggles, why do I gotta shoot Mr. Toaster? Because if it starts making bad sounds, you gotta deal with it fast before it takes over the world.
01:03:24
Speaker
Oh, God. That's right, folks. We're talking some AI today. ah Specifically, ah for those i want to look behind the scenes, I have this title, thanks to Wiggles, who obviously sent me today's topics, AI and Why you Need to Shoot Your Toaster.
01:03:41
Speaker
I only suggested this too because I was like having trouble thinking of another topic. There's a few things um I could talk about, but they're like really small tidbitty things that I'm like, yeah can't really go on a long rant or conversation about this.
01:03:56
Speaker
Um... Yes, ah but I know a few people who work in the games industry, and I know there's been ah there's a thread in one of the discords that I'm in with amongst friends called Heated Topics, and they have been talking about AI a lot.
01:04:11
Speaker
oh There's been some very heated opinions about AI in this industry. Yeah, because it's, ah I mean, there's the there's the good and the bads about AI, as there is with nearly everything.
01:04:25
Speaker
ah The bads, obviously, generative AI. And because no no one likes generative AI because it steals art. It's just not good. Also, it's a weird balancing act because AI has to use, like, existing things in order to create. So you get into a weird area of, like, copyright law.
01:04:45
Speaker
Yeah. Which is super interesting to people like me but yeah
01:04:51
Speaker
No, absolutely. And then you have like actual tools that can help you with stuff of like, I don't know how I can humanly do this, but then it's like, oh wait, this tool can help us out with this.
01:05:05
Speaker
And it has like AI functionality and whatnot, but it's not the bad kind of AI. Unless it goes rogue and starts taking over the world, in which case then yeah, it's the bad a i but it's a different kind of bad, you know?
01:05:17
Speaker
god damn it, Skynet. So so so what are the what are some of the... what's so What's going on with the games industry and AI right now with what you've been seeing? So what I've been seeing... um And again, I'm not an... I should preface this. I'm not an expert. I don't work in the games industry at all. I kind of just take what I see in news articles. What I see... Because I do a little bit of finance investing...
01:05:41
Speaker
stuff and I dabble in the video games industry a little bit there and then I take what I have some who actually work in the games industry their opinions and topics and stuff ah what I've been seeing itself is that AI is like right now it's we're kind of early in the stage of it entering the workflow still yeah um So there I don't think there's um anything major going on. I think arc raiders using the AI voice acting is probably the biggest jolt into it. That's been happening.
01:06:13
Speaker
Yeah. and This is a recent thing. I only recently learned about this. Thanks to TikToker, Katie, the red haired British girl um who was,
01:06:25
Speaker
recently uh uh was doing a thing because somebody had rated arc raiders like a two out of five and it's like oh yeah the reason is because they use ai voices and i'm like wait what i'm like this game's been getting so much praise and shit like and it's it's been doing this and so you look into it more raiders uh
01:06:48
Speaker
had all their voice, the, the void, the is essentially for future voice acting for, don't, it's like minor, don't even know if it's like minor characters or like, they're, they're using it for just like minor lines for like future updates and shit like that.
01:07:09
Speaker
But it's still like, And it's like, they i don't know if they made voice banks with these people to do this. Because if it's like they made the voice banks with the actors, yeah i'd say I'd say that's fine. and then you Because then at that point, it's becoming more of like a vocaloid type thing.
01:07:29
Speaker
ah Kind of AI to make that. ah Whereas if you're just like that like doing it where it's you're not, you didn't make like this voice bank prior to it.
01:07:41
Speaker
I think that's a little worse. I think if they like properly made like a voice bank with these, with these actors and that's how they got their permission to do this because apparently they got permission from the actors to do this. And I'm like, wait, well what the fuck?
01:07:58
Speaker
Wasn't this like a whole thing that like SAG-AFTRA was like dealing with, with the video game industry with the strike as well. So it's very confusing that like,
01:08:11
Speaker
It's like the voice actor said, yeah, you can use AI voices for the rest of this. I'm like, the fuck? I think a couple of things with this one. and I obviously don't know the Ark Raider situation. Yeah. And I don't think anybody really knows they would have.
01:08:28
Speaker
We'll have to have to dig up some kind of press release from them, which I don't have a hand at the moment, or ask them for it. absolutely But with the v eight like if the VAs, the voice actors, agree to it, I'm assuming they're getting residuals or something in payment from it. You would think then at least?
01:08:49
Speaker
You would hope. And then when it comes to like voice banking, I'm assuming the voice bank just comes from low-ons that they've already done. um Because with the a AI tech right now is pretty good with this kind of stuff that you can only say a few things and it'll take your voice and run with it.
01:09:06
Speaker
Okay. um So I don't think they would need much of a voice bank. They'd probably just use it what they have existing. and What they have existing and if they need any like other sounds made by the voice bank.
01:09:18
Speaker
um voice actors they could have got it and put it into said bank exactly um i think I'm still on the fence where I don't really like AI being used in really anything except for maybe a couple specifics which was kind of introduced to me by a friend which I'll mention shortly here yeah um But I think art the team for Arc Raiders went about this one the right way. They got the voice actor's permission that they're only using it for minor things. yeah It's not like it's like it's like not even like a full percentage that's being used of like within like and this whole like within like the entire game. It's like not even like or less like 2% of the lines.
01:10:06
Speaker
It's not like a lot. It's very minor of like how much is actually being done by AI from what I thinking. see from what I saw at least with an article yeah so I don't think in this in the Ark Raiders case I don't think it takes away from the game really at all yeah I think uh the way the way they went about it the way they're doing it is it's yeah it's good it's okay I agree with it um
01:10:33
Speaker
That's really all I can say. um When I mentioned my friend there, though, um he's working on a project right now and he uses AI and certain things, but he usually mostly for like workflow ideation.
01:10:44
Speaker
Yeah. More like a tool than anything else. Yeah. It's basically just like a helping with tools to keep track of stuff. Yeah. His comments... i say And he's heard from... Sorry. And he's heard from other people ah that they use it for, like, in 2D projects, that they use it for sprite sheets and tile sets. So if, like, they have graphics already made, they just use the AI to generate, like, a tile sheet or a sprite sheet so like, all the graphics on them. Again, it's ah it's ah it's being used as a tool. Like... Like it's like the clankers should. It's a tool.
01:11:22
Speaker
Yeah. The one thing he did say, he's like, he had to catch himself a lot when he's been using it because ah kind of, if you start to overuse it, it starts to degrade your critical thinking. And he gets like, you'll get into this habit of just copying, paste, whatever the AI does over into your project.
01:11:44
Speaker
instead of going in and you know trying to document stuff yourself. ah His worry about the future of the games industry is that there's going to be an entire generation of indie devs, or even i would go far as far as to say AAA devs, that are just going to vibe code their way through everything.
01:12:03
Speaker
Which is basically just let the AI code, don't edit it, and copy and paste it over, and run with it. That sounds... so That sounds like totally if the AI went rogue and wanted to put in a world-ending thing with a video game that they could totally do that.
01:12:26
Speaker
Yeah. At least that's how it... like Well, I wouldn't say a game studio AI is going to take over the world. If that's the case, then holy shit, we've gone so far down the rabbit hole. Yeah.
01:12:40
Speaker
It's going to take over the world, and the game is called Toilet Simulator.
01:12:48
Speaker
It would be that too, wouldn't it? It would It would be! That's, uh... Yeah. So, um, and then he's also like, he also made the comment to saying, oh there's going to be a generation of just like corporate executive workers who don't write their own emails.
01:13:05
Speaker
Cause it will just be AI that write the emails. i mean i feel like too I feel like we're slowly kind of maybe like a quarter of the way there already. Yeah. Cause everybody's too lazy and cheap to deal with shit or just yeah doesn't want to deal with it at all. Cause why?
01:13:22
Speaker
cough cough my company but i might have maybe i feel like I feel like my personal company by ah the the real high ops might be sending that out already with the shit we're going through fail um the one thing I think we like indie devs need to pay attention to and this is another thing that a friend of his mentioned to him is that because his buddy is running game an indie game studio and is trying to get investors And every time they have an investment meeting, it's how are you going to incorporate AI into your workflow?
01:13:59
Speaker
oh Oh. I think, and I've been seeing it, like, I mentioned I do, like, a little bit of finance stuff, too. and whenever Every time I fucking open up my tech sheets, it's always talking about AI, AI. It's like the brain rot for finance bros. Yeah.
01:14:19
Speaker
Yes. AI is the brain rot for finance bros. Wow. That's the damn. Straight up, i just i think AIs overall were like really bad for the industry. Not because it yeah yeah's you're going to get cheaper product coming out, which sounds great, but you're not going to see the savings on that at all.
01:14:40
Speaker
It's going to be less quality across the board if it enters the AAA space in a major way where they start just removing asset developers from the industry.
01:14:52
Speaker
you're just goingnna and then you're get to And the markets are going to end up being flooded by a bunch of like... really like not it might already be that way but a ton more just really cheap shitty games and people are gonna buy them because that's what you're given if you're just given slop to play games people are gonna buy because that's all they're given yeah uh but that brings up a good brings up a point that i want to raise of games shouldn't strive to just be
01:15:24
Speaker
good anymore uh or james shouldn't strive to just be a game and be a mid game games should be striving to be the best thing they can be and if they fall flat on the way at least they tried and there's that humanity to it yeah you can see it there keyword there humanity humanity yeah and fucking clankers I think you like you mentioned in your notes here. Like, what do you what will be? Yeah. we're maybe ten years
01:15:54
Speaker
yeah we're house like Where do you see this in five, ten years? Like, we're like, is it going to be at that complete era or is that still like maybe another 20 years off?
01:16:06
Speaker
No, I think we're we're we're we're within the five-year mark, I personally think. oh a AI tech is expounding exponentially every day, it seems like.
01:16:18
Speaker
ah You look at the companies that are just heavily investing into AI development, like AMD, NVIDIA, like ah two of the biggest companies that are just throwing all of their money into this space.
01:16:33
Speaker
ye ah Not necessarily in the art. They're mostly doing it for like yeah it it's is yeah so enhancing chipsets. We're not looking at the art side. Nobody likes the art side. We're talking about the side that can the productivity side.
01:16:50
Speaker
well i mean We can talk shit about the art side too oh we well yeah like but i mean that's That's too easy. Everybody on Twitter already does that. he We already have Baby Don't Money doing that. we don't We can save that for him.
01:17:01
Speaker
Yeah, exactly. But on the productivity side, i in the five to 10 years, it's going to expand to the point where I think you you are going to see a lot of jobs lost because of it. And they're just to solely focus on AI, whether it's for art or workflow management and or just like code building.
01:17:21
Speaker
Yeah. But I also see that there's going to be a really heavy cost, societal cost to diving into AI. And you're already kind of seeing it in other spaces, like or other markets, is the energy usage for AI is massive.
01:17:40
Speaker
Like yeah it is insanely massive. They are taking up entire grid networks of space just for doing stuff. um In the city that I live in right now,
01:17:51
Speaker
they are they It's not AI, but it's crypto mining, of course, has been a big thing. um But they have to use part of the city's power grid to power their mining rigs. An entire natural gas plant is basically dedicated to them.
01:18:07
Speaker
Jesus!
01:18:11
Speaker
So... you're You're going to see the more and more AI gets used, whether it's like AI management and making like your graphics cards or processors better or workflow or art, the energy cost ah to whatever nations are going to be like the forefront of this is going to be huge.
01:18:33
Speaker
Yeah, it definitely will be. it's So you're going to see energy die wrong. Yeah, i I think it it might seem small or un like I think a lot of people will see it's like, oh, the video game market and AI is not going to like have much effect. I think it's going to have much more of an effect than people realize.
01:18:54
Speaker
Yeah, especially when you bring up the like how it'll affect the energy sector. Yeah. Well, i this is where my professionalism actually comes out. I work in the energy sector right now. does!
01:19:06
Speaker
It all ties together! It all ties together. Holy shit, first time ever we actually talk about Wiggles' actual real profession. Wow. Yeah, well... Kind of. I say kind of. I'm on the environmental side, but I work alongside a lot of โ€“ I work out alongside operations. I work alongside like executive branches ah in our in our cities and whatnot. So I'm on the ground. i see this stuff.
01:19:32
Speaker
um And I know like all the pipeline infrastructure, all that. how that comes into play and like in Canada, if we wanted, if we wanted to do even in Alberta to start being a big tech industry, i know a lot of people don't like it, but you're going to need more pipelines because we are natural gas space fucking sucks.
01:19:56
Speaker
Yeah. We have zero capacity for natural gas at the moment because it's it's maxed out. um And then actually trying to get natural gas to market, to power things, is we're like, we basically um handicapped ourselves, basically.
01:20:13
Speaker
o um That's why natural gas, like natural gas price on the production market is really, really shit you don't make a lot of money of it that's why not a lot of people does it but with the energy space if you wanted to try to power ai development in even if you're just doing it for whatever reason i don't care whatever industry wants to plant themselves in calgary to do it you can't here not unless you have some major natural gas projects and that's never going to happen i don't think so
01:20:47
Speaker
Gotcha. no Unless we like go into another energy industry, which very much could happen. Yeah. so Huh. Well, that's ah good knowledge to know there, Wiggles.
01:20:59
Speaker
Yeah, kinda. I went down a rabbit hole on this one. hey it's a good rabbit hole you know it's it's good to kind of like have that idea though with us but with ai with how especially with how fast this thing is growing and how soon but five years soon we'll probably see the effects take place it's good to kind of keep that in the back of our minds of like oh yeah no this is kind of happening yeah very similarly to what wiggles said so we're prepared kind of prepared for it also you know just uh from what i've been seeing and other things too if you want to build a new rig do it now because we're about to enter another chip shortage
01:21:47
Speaker
not the potato chips i'm assuming I hope not. Dear God, that would be horrible. That would be horrible. We have a chip shortage and we have no potato chips.
01:21:58
Speaker
This is the worst kind of shortage ever. yeah Both our tech and our snacks are That's the real doomsday scenario we got to avoid.
01:22:12
Speaker
ah Well, ah Wiggles, is there anything else you want to add to the AI conversation or have we essentially hit the key points of that right now? I think we hit the key points. i had my good rant.
01:22:25
Speaker
but Excellent. need to get that off my chest for a while. Excellent. We love it. Yeah, if your toaster makes a strange noise, shoot it. Just be done with it. Just be done with it.
01:22:36
Speaker
Get yourself an air fryer toaster. and that Those have touchscreens now, too, and they're getting smarter, too. Don't Don't let them hide behind they their their fancy air fryer glam.
01:22:48
Speaker
But Wiggles, it's an air fryer. You know the game lounge and air fryers. We're supposed to be friends. I know the game lounge and air fryers, and that will be our greatest downfall.
01:22:59
Speaker
and When people ask what caused the gate game lounge to collapse on itself, it was the air fryer. It's the air fryer now sitting in Tony's chair.
01:23:09
Speaker
but yeah yeah God damn. All right. Well, I think with that, it's time for us to move on to the final segment of the show and jump right to the bonus level.
01:23:23
Speaker
Crazy lists, great deals, and recapping gaming history. It's all here in the bonus level. And to kick the day off, we've got, of course, Game Clash. This is our small eight tournament entry for games or characters of a specific theme.
01:23:40
Speaker
And since we're with Wiggles, I figured, well, let's get some map and strategy games in a little bracket. Wiggles, are ready to decide the winner? I am. Okay.
01:23:51
Speaker
For match one, we've got Hearts of Iron versus Age of Empires.

Nostalgia for Age of Empires

01:23:56
Speaker
You're started off with starting off with a hard one for me already. um ah So... I'm not just going to say answers. That would be too easy. going to tell a story.
01:24:08
Speaker
is Go for Age of Empires is actually really nostalgic for me. ah Growing up like elementary through middle school, like... I played Age 1 really early on on, and I loved it so much. I would still go back and play Age 1 to this day. And then, unlike the most popular Age of Empires, i didn't play Age 2 until well after its release, like damn near a decade after it's been released.
01:24:36
Speaker
I went straight to Age 3. Oh. And loved Age 3. I loved...
01:24:43
Speaker
I love like different times in history playing the games, and like ah the industrial era is great. I like muskets. They are fun. Age 3 really just like took a hold of me, especially when I was younger.
01:24:57
Speaker
Hearts of Iron, I have dumped so many goddamn hours into that game. ah So many.
01:25:05
Speaker
I've done so all the weirdest things from turn communist Russia into the russian bringing back the Russian Empire. I have turned the United States into a com communist bastion.
01:25:19
Speaker
I have made a Portuguese empire across all of Europe and South ah south America. Okay, god damn! um I think that's so hard to pick out of those two, but I think probably Hearts of Iron. and I spent a lot more time in that now than I do Age. I haven't played Age in quite a while.
01:25:42
Speaker
i know just Just on like recent playability, Hearts of Iron is going to have to take

Game Bracket Choices

01:25:47
Speaker
the win on that one. right Match 2, Command and Conquer versus Crusader Kings. That one's not a hard one, because you know what I'm going to pick, right? I know what you're going to pick here. You know what I'm going to pick. Yeah, I think I know what you're going to pick here, but just so so the audience knows what you're going to pick. what are you going to pick?
01:26:04
Speaker
Yeah, Command & Conquer has my heart forever. I grew up with that game. It's one of the first video games that I remember playing. I started playing Command & Conquer when I was like really, really young. I played Red Alert.
01:26:19
Speaker
like That was the first game. like I don't think that's the first game I played, but it's definitely like one of the ones that I definitely remember. Crusader Kings, I really love. You always hold my heart. I love doing all the weird, crazy shit you can do in that game, but Command & Conquer will.
01:26:35
Speaker
but'll We'll take that one on that one. ah Match three, and again, this is just how the random bracket generator put it out. ah Warcraft versus Starcraft. Nah, I didn't like Warcraft.
01:26:47
Speaker
I played it a little bit. So star Starcraft wins. I played a lot of that. A while I got pretty good. Not pro good, but I got pretty good. The Zerg are the best.
01:26:58
Speaker
Zerg are great. I don't know It's just a fun little, like, if you've seen, like, the car bot animations of StarCraft, um you should go look that guy up on YouTube and look at those animations. The the cuteling, the zergling, he made, like, a cuteling for it. I have a stuffy of both the cuteling and the marine. Oh, nice.
01:27:21
Speaker
That he he made. i love that. I love those. Nice. So good. ah And match for civilization versus Europa Universalist. This is also an easy one, but I'm going to tell you why.
01:27:35
Speaker
Okay. Europa Universalis scares me.
01:27:42
Speaker
who What is it? Wait, why does it scare you? So, Adam, I've played damn near every Paradox game that ever existed, which actually kind of a lie. I've played a lot of Paradox games, though.
01:27:54
Speaker
um I have never played Europa Universalis. If you think Hearts of Iron or Stellaris or Crusader Kings has a lot to it, your own a Europa has oh so much more.
01:28:08
Speaker
Oh. Oh. there is the it It is a learning curve that even I'm afraid of. Civilization... so ah civilization also holds ah nostalgia over me. I played that when I was really young as well.
01:28:25
Speaker
um I played Civilization 2, which I think it came out with the Windows 98. Jesus Christ! So, um I didn't play it at that time. I think of how old I would have been four at that time, but that's what i first that was my first introduction into Civilization 2. Ah, yes, a four-year-old.
01:28:45
Speaker
I'm moving my things into the puppeteer. I definitely played video games when I was four, though. ah Moving on to the 70 finals, Hearts of Iron versus Command and Conquer.
01:29:01
Speaker
Yeah, Command and Conquer's going to take that one. haven't played it recently, but... it Yeah, it just wins. It just wins. And StarCraft versus Civ.
01:29:15
Speaker
Ooh...
01:29:18
Speaker
Probably Starcraft. Okay. ah Yeah, probably Starcraft. um which is there There's some civilizations that I really, really liked, um but some of the recent additions, Civ 7 doesn't look all that appealing to me, and Civ 6 was okay, but it's not great either. Fair enough.
01:29:43
Speaker
Grand Finals Command and Conquer versus Starcraft. Yeah, Command & Conquer wins. Command & Conquer's just taking the win. i saw it coming a mile away, folks!
01:29:55
Speaker
Yeah. I love StarCraft, but Command & Conquer wins. Also, Command & Conquer studio got shut down, so it doesn't have all the drama that Blizzard had.
01:30:07
Speaker
Oh... Yeah. Well, congratulations, Command and Conquer, for taking the map strategy game bracket.
