Introduction of Louis Easton to the GSPN podcast

00:00:09
Global Sports Podcast Network
Welcome back to the Daily English Premier League podcast brought to you by GSPN. My name is Tom Jolly and today I'm joined by Marcus and the new entry to the GSPN network.
00:00:17
Marcus Ramtohul
Hello.
00:00:20
Global Sports Podcast Network
I'd like to introduce everybody to the newest member of the Daily EPL English team, Louis Easton. How are you, mate?
00:00:25
Louie Easton
wow that's a beautiful intro thank you very much for having me and uh yeah got my shirt tucked in today uh coming on for my debut off the sidelines

Why did Manchester United sack Eric Tenhag?

00:00:35
Louie Easton
thank you very much
00:00:35
Global Sports Podcast Network
I don't know whether you're trying to do a grand shift or just imitate Mateta, but we'll get straight into it because the breaking news this week is about, of course Manchester United. When is the breaking news not about Manchester United these days? I'm sure the guys called it yesterday, but for a recap, Manchester United have sacked Eric Tenhar. He's been relieved of his duties after two and a half years in the Dugout Old Trafford. He won two domestic trophies in his time, but on the back of Manchester United's worst ever start to a Premier League season, the Dutchman's been sent for an

Is Ruben Amorim the right replacement for Tenhag?

exit.
00:01:02
Global Sports Podcast Network
And the rumours coming out of Old Trafford and Sporting have confirmed it this afternoon is that Reuben Amorim, Sporting head coach, is set to replace Eric Tenharg in the Dugawa Old Trafford. But the rumours are Manchester-Chateau haven't confirmed it. Manchester-Chateau are going to pay £10m compensation. And confirmed by The Athletic, I believe, which was this afternoon, is that Manchester United won't be able to have Ruben Amour in charge until around the 24th of November.
00:01:26
Global Sports Podcast Network
because of his So say if you were to leave a normal job, you'd have to give your notice, wouldn't you?
00:01:26
Louie Easton
Oh.
00:01:31
Global Sports Podcast Network
Apparently he's got a notice in closing his contract at sporting, which basically means he has to be in charge for two weeks after the date or something around that, which basically means Ruben is where we'd be taking charge of Manchester United on an interim basis.
00:01:42
Global Sports Podcast Network
until the Ipswich game away on, I think it's the 24th of November. But guys, Louis, I'm going to come to you as you the newly introduced man here on the GSPN daily English Premier League podcast, Reuben Amorim to Manchester

Risks of hiring Ruben Amorim

00:01:55
Global Sports Podcast Network
United. What are your thoughts?
00:01:56
Louie Easton
Well, I think it's a big risk because they're bringing in someone ah quite young and quite a sort of fresh face, ah someone who hasn't managed in the top five leagues before, but he has proven himself in the Portuguese league. He's young, 39 years old. He only retired from playing football in 2017.
00:02:16
Louie Easton
um and above all else for Manchester United this is just a massive kick in the nuts for Liverpool fans like myself we tried to get him in the summer which already means he is a good manager um and he rejected us so that would be something for Manchester United fans ah to really enjoy above all else
00:02:35
Global Sports Podcast Network
And I'll come on to that in a moment of what you just said, Luke, but Marcus, your thoughts on Ruben Almerin.
00:02:40
Marcus Ramtohul
Oh gosh, I mean, at least you'll have something to to kind of kick us in the nuts about. It's not been a fun time for Manchester United fans of late, has it?
00:02:49
Global Sports Podcast Network
for martin marcu
00:02:51
Marcus Ramtohul
But I feel like every time we talk about managers on this podcast, I keep pointing out how they're younger than me. 39 years old, as Louis pointed out, is a big risk, but also highly sought after. Not just Liverpool, but I think he was linked with Barca, Bayern, UVA. More so, I think really he was being lined up for but taking over PEP at Manchester City. So that is huge, a big win in that sense for Manchester United.

Do younger managers face more risks?

00:03:18
Marcus Ramtohul
But Tom, you and I have talked a lot about I believed myself that Eric Tenharg was the right person for the job.
00:03:24
Marcus Ramtohul
I know plenty of other people have disagreed. but In fact, my Liverpool fan chat has been kicking off with people going, oh, no, it's over. They're going to get someone good in. And I'm like, Eric Tenharg is a good manager.
00:03:36
Marcus Ramtohul
What you need is players who can finish. and So I'm interested to see, you know, they've said
00:03:39
Louie Easton
Yeah.
00:03:43
Marcus Ramtohul
There have been United fans saying, oh, let's give it to Rude Van Mista, right? And now he's going to have the team for what seems like quite a few games, if if what you're saying is correct. First, I've heard about it. I thought that Amrung will be in by Sunday. But, um you know, he is the forwards coach and Manchester United have not been finishing. So what is going to happen in Interim? I don't know.
00:04:06
Marcus Ramtohul
ah The only thing I could say, you know someone who who thought Eric Tenha could be the right person to stick with for Manchester United is, this is the right time if you're going to make a change. Give whoever's coming in time to really make an impact. But you've got some big fixtures coming up. So ah yeah.
00:04:26
Global Sports Podcast Network
I mean, I'm going to start off the the reply to what you just said, Marcus, is that even if Ruben Amurim is in charge on Sunday, which is a possibility, and Manchester United lose to Chelsea and Leicester and Ipswich win, Manchester United will be going into game week 11 of the Premier League in 16th place.
00:04:39
Global Sports Podcast Network
Let's just get that fact straight.

Ruben Amorim's tactical approach

00:04:41
Global Sports Podcast Network
First of all, I hope Reuben Ammerim, should he come in? I mean, we expect him to, about the infamous here we go from Richard Romano.
00:04:48
Louie Easton
Yeah, that's how I found out.
00:04:48
Global Sports Podcast Network
I hope he's got a good support system around him. I really hope he's got a good support system because the media love to have a, they will pick him apart within 24 hours of him being announced. So i hope he's good I wish him all the best as a man should act, but I hope he succeeds.
00:05:02
Global Sports Podcast Network
from From his point of view, I think the style of play, really good, really promising, really attacking counteractive football, He plays a three-back with a four three-four-two-one. They've they've scored 30 goals in nine wins out of nine so far this season for sporting and conceded two.
00:05:17
Global Sports Podcast Network
And people say it's the Portuguese league.
00:05:18
Louie Easton
Yeah.
00:05:19
Global Sports Podcast Network
The Portuguese league is a very competitive league. Benfica, Porto and Sporting are always at the top. they They're always fighting out with their point of each overcome at the end of the season. He's also had two to two league titles with Sporting as well.
00:05:29
Global Sports Podcast Network
And the the other thing that I found really funny when i I woke up and saw it on Twitter this morning is that when Magician I have faced Sporting at home in 2012 in the Champions League, Ruben Amrum started for sports in Lisbon. Jonny Evans started and scored for Manchester United in a 5-1 win. Jonny Evans is now going to be managed but by Ruben Amrum, which is a really funny thing. And also, what you said about Ruben Estroy as well, Marcus, I find it really interesting because I've got a really good friend at university who is an Ajax fan, and he's really in touch with the Dutch League and how Dutch managers are across the across globe. He was really excited when Slott came to the Premier League, for example, with Liverpool. You look at Ruben Estroy when he was at PSV.
00:06:07
Global Sports Podcast Network
He played proactive football, but he should have done a hell of a lot better with the squad that he had. He had Jared Brantway, Javi Simmons. He had so many bakayoko on the wing, so many talented players in that PSB squad. But he also played at times, even in a cup final against Ajax, which they won, a three-back. Ruben Amurim also plays a three-back. We know at the start of this season that Ruben is to return down the Burnley managerial job.
00:06:29
Global Sports Podcast Network
to become the man the assistant coach at Manchester United.

Alignment of Manchester United signings with Amorim's style

00:06:33
Global Sports Podcast Network
To me, that screams contingency plan for Minios, that if Tenar gets sacked, Ruben Amrym is going to come in as the interim boss at Manchester United. And I also think, you look at some of the signings that were made from Manchester United in the summer, they suit Ruben Amrym's style of play a hell of a lot more than they suit Eric Tenharks. Agate, for example, joe Joe Wilcox, who came in in the on the board from Manchester United in the summer,
00:06:56
Global Sports Podcast Network
He said no to the re-signing of Amrabbat on a permanent deal for £10m and instead Manchester United went and forked out £50-60m for Manuel Agate. Manuel Agate previously played at Sporting with Ruben Amroum. You look at some of the other players in and around the set up. Some of them have played within Portugal, some of them are obviously Portuguese, some of them play for the Portuguese national team or they've played at Sporting in particular.
00:07:19
Global Sports Podcast Network
The big worry I've got should he come in now, don't get me wrong, there's some certain fingerprints on this team now from the transfers and the different signers that make me say this was always the plan to bring him in, it was just a matter of if a matter of when rather than if.
00:07:31
Global Sports Podcast Network
For me, I'm really worried about the squad we've got in particular, because you can tell from the reaction from the squad and the players on their social media posts of who Tenharg's favourites were, of Heuland, Garnaccio, you look at Anthony, you look at Martinez, they all put social media posts out.
00:07:46
Global Sports Podcast Network
Didn't see one from Rashford, did we? Didn't see one from, you know, I mean, I'm sure we've all seen Jayden Sanchez deleted Instagram posts when Tenharg was sat, that was quite amusing.
00:07:49
Louie Easton
Hmm.
00:07:53
Marcus Ramtohul
Mm hmm.
00:07:54
Global Sports Podcast Network
De Gea even had his opinions on it as well.
00:07:56
Louie Easton
Yeah.
00:07:57
Global Sports Podcast Network
But when you look when you look at the squad, seven or eight of these starting lineup was signed by Tenharg. That worries me. Amroom is going to have to come in and put his fingerprints on this team, but the big thing on that is, and I'm going to end my little waffle now, is that whenever Amroom's coming at sport in first time, he played a 5-3-2 in his first two games, it didn't happen, and instantly switched to philosophy and kept it, and the players bought into it.
00:08:17
Global Sports Podcast Network
I'll be really interested to see if he comes in and stamps his fingerprints on this squad straight away, because that's something 10-hour hasn't managed to do over the two and a half years he was there and as a whole, and it'll lead you to see if Room and Amroom can

Impact of ownership and player attitudes on Manchester United

00:08:28
Global Sports Podcast Network
do that.
00:08:28
Global Sports Podcast Network
And now I'm going to take a breather and let you guys have the light.
00:08:28
Louie Easton
Tom, Tom, I'm going to ask you a question, though, um because a lot of the noise at Manchester United is about the ownership, the board, and many people, Marcus, I agree with you on your points that the problem, in my opinion as well, wasn't ten hard. It was the players' attitudes. Do you think Amareem can fix the players' attitudes? Because I think that the attitudes are the true problem in the squad as well as the board you know you look at you look to someone for leadership Bruno Fernandez is their captain is that someone you can still look to even with a Portuguese manager coming in
00:09:02
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah
00:09:06
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, I think he is. I really think he is. I mean, on the brilliant finance point, I think he will remain Manchester United's captain. I think he's the best option in the squad. There is a lead as an experience of homegrown talent in that squad. You can look at CopyMania, for example. He's a leader at his age. He's the same age as me. And he is he's a leader in the midfield at Manchester. And you can see in the games we've missed him. We've missed him. But on the Amarin point, if he's going to come in and have authority and change that attitude,
00:09:29
Global Sports Podcast Network
Marcus, you know my opinions. I'm always probably the most optimistic Man United fan you will ever meet. And that is genuinely a case of I've grown up with us being absolutely naff. I grew up in the later years of Fergie, and then since then, we've been awful. We've been dreadful for a decade. Don't get me wrong, a couple of trophies here and there, but it's been dire. And I think there's this there's this trend between Man United fans, old or young, between different generations of having different opinions on how many how much time managers should get.
00:09:55
Global Sports Podcast Network
I was always in the camp after the ethical final, Tenor deserves another season. Well, the older generation said it, we want him out now. In hindsight, probably should have got rid of him after the ethical final, but you can understand why Ineos went and gave him more time.
00:10:08
Global Sports Podcast Network
You look at the Amrim thing now and I go, I'm optimistic and I say he's going to have his impact, he's going to have the imprint.
00:10:08
Louie Easton
Yep.
00:10:12
Global Sports Podcast Network
We might start playing nice football, but there are changes to the squad still being needed, even with the money that's been spent. And that's not just a Manchester United thing. Now you see that across the Premier League and across the whole of Europe, the amount of money that's being spent now.
00:10:24
Global Sports Podcast Network
Arsenal have done the same, Manchester City have done the same, Manchester added in the most extreme case because it's Manchester United and the media. We're we a goldmine for content. It'll be a bit more scrutinized a little bit more. But yes, that will happen.
00:10:36
Global Sports Podcast Network
And yes, we've spent a lot of money, but they still have improvements to be made. We don't have a left-back. We don't even have two ah the strongest set-up pattern that we've figured out yet. It looks like it's going to be martyrs until late. But if Amorim changes to a back three, does Yoro come in?
00:10:48
Global Sports Podcast Network
Does Evans start? Does Maguire come back in? So many questions around Manchester United right now, especially with the the impact that Ruben Amorim is supposed to have when he comes in.
00:10:51
Louie Easton
Yeah.
00:10:57
Global Sports Podcast Network
And I can't answer your question, certainly because, genuinely, I don't know. But I think, as a whole, it's really exciting.
00:11:04
Marcus Ramtohul
you know the The thing that worries me for if I was a Manchester United fan is this seems to be the same conversation for the last few managers that have come in.
00:11:12
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah
00:11:13
Marcus Ramtohul
I don't believe, ah maybe it's a back office thing, um I'm pretty sure it must be that Eric Tenharg has had the squad and the players he wants to work with, not just the players the playing the way he wants, but also the mentality that he wants.
00:11:27
Marcus Ramtohul
So what's to say that this group of players will perform how Amarin wants and It seems to have been the case for Manchester United over quite a few seasons now that there needs to be some real cleaning house and changing the manager isn't really what they need to do.
00:11:43
Marcus Ramtohul
I think it will give them a burst of life.
00:11:44
Global Sports Podcast Network
you you okay You look at what Ralph Ranjuk said when he was in his interim in charge of my shot.
00:11:45
Marcus Ramtohul
and
00:11:49
Global Sports Podcast Network
He said we needed open heart surgery. yeah We've probably had a kidney donation over the last three years in the sense that that was a new board.
00:11:52
Louie Easton
Yeah.
00:11:56
Global Sports Podcast Network
But apart from that, the culture is slowly edging up. It's going to take its time. We knew that when Ineos took over. you look you
00:12:03
Louie Easton
Six managers in 11 years.
00:12:05
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, but and I'm gonna say on that as well, it's a managerial merry-go-round, isn't it? We see the same cycle for the last 10 years, which is why after the ethical final, I said, we need to give 10-Hog a little bit more time, because Arsenal did the same with Arteta, and look where Arsenal are now.
00:12:09
Marcus Ramtohul
Yeah.
00:12:18
Global Sports Podcast Network
I think Manchester United had the hope of that plan with that same contingency plan would have worked. Unfortunately, it didn't, but it's the same cycle. Manager comes in, good first year. Second year is a bit naff, third year they'll probably lose to Liverpool and then get sacked.
00:12:31
Global Sports Podcast Network
and then you have an extra Manchester United player coming in into him for six months. That's been the case for the last 10 years. Is this going to be the change?
00:12:40
Marcus Ramtohul
I mean, from from a Liverpool fans point of view, I hope that merry-go-round continues because i I've been enjoying it.
00:12:40
Global Sports Podcast Network
I don't know.
00:12:44
Louie Easton
Yes. Long may it continue. Ah, Tenharg, the most memorable part for me ah is the 7-0. For you it might be the f FA Cup final.
00:12:54
Global Sports Podcast Network
and No, i think I think because it was the best ever game I've been to at Old Trafford, the 4-3 against you lot.
00:13:00
Louie Easton
Ah, here we go again.
00:13:01
Marcus Ramtohul
oh
00:13:02
Global Sports Podcast Network
no and um i'm not I'm not saying that just because you two are here.
00:13:02
Louie Easton
Here we go again.
00:13:05
Global Sports Podcast Network
Genuinely, that's the most excited and happy I've ever felt at Manchester United game. It really is. But, Marcus, take a little but give me a little bit of a breather, will you, and tell me about Zencaster.

Let's move away from Manchester United now, shall we? As hard as it may

Rodri's Ballon d'Or win and controversies

00:13:44
Global Sports Podcast Network
be sometimes. And talk about the Battle on Door, the ceremony that happened on Monday evening. So Manchester city City's Rodrigo claimed the Ballon d'Or, much to the disarray that sent the football in Wales into practical civil war over the last 24 hours, and the fact that Brazil and Real Madrid star Benisius Juniors did not win the trophy. I want to give you a little story about this. Benisius Juniors had a party before the Ballon Door ceremony in which he He praised his teammates and offered to gift them every single player in his team a Rolex watch as a gift for him winning the Ballon d'Or.
00:14:17
Global Sports Podcast Network
He has since not attended the Ballon d'Or ceremony, along with no other representatives of Real Madrid, which I'm not sure whether this is true, but is that not one of the first times in Ballon d'Or history Real Madrid have not had a representative at the ceremony, which is a very
00:14:29
Louie Easton
Well, like I cannot give you the information on that because that's a very niche statistic you're looking for there.
00:14:35
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah
00:14:36
Louie Easton
But one thing I will say, this is the first time a Ballon d'Or has gone to a player outside of La Liga or to the Premier League since 2008. And I'm sure you know very well who won it that year, Tom.
00:14:50
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah i mean I don't know it anyway, but mainly because I've been talking about it all day with ah friends and whatnot about debating, should Rodry have won? Shouldn't he have won? In my opinion, i'm I'm over the moon that Rodry's won.
00:15:01
Louie Easton
So am I.
00:15:03
Global Sports Podcast Network
It's not that I didn't want him to win, because I'm a Manchester United fan, but he's by far been the best. but what is he He's lost, what, is it one game in 71 or something around that?
00:15:10
Marcus Ramtohul
Yeah.
00:15:10
Louie Easton
That's it, yeah.
00:15:11
Marcus Ramtohul
yeah
00:15:11
Global Sports Podcast Network
Obviously, that was the FA Cup final. he came off don't get wrong He came off in the Euros final, didn't he, at half time. Swaim on the Euros. They've won the nation's league over the last 18 months. he won the the Premier League with Manchester City, he won the was it the Club World Cup or the Super Cup or whatever it's called these days, they won that as well.
00:15:26
Louie Easton
Yep.
00:15:27
Marcus Ramtohul
Yep.
00:15:29
Global Sports Podcast Network
So you look at all the competitions he's won, the importance he has in that Manchester City as well. I think I was speaking to Mikey on ah Monday about this and it was since Rodgeri's not been in the squad, their XG goes down, their win percentage goes down and their ball retention time goes down as well.
00:15:44
Global Sports Podcast Network
He's so important to that squad, he's the most important player in world football and I'm happy that he's been recognised for his talent.
00:15:49
Louie Easton
And another reason it's so good that he's won the Ballon d'Or is because of the fact that it shows that still attacking players, ah well, non-attacking players rather, can get these awards, can get these plaudits. And especially since it's sticking it to the Spanish League as well, because I think everyone had already written 2024, uh, Vinicius Jr. in that country as well. And the fact that he's now not won it, everyone's going into turmoil, and it's very good for Rodry that he doesn't have social media at the moment. because Can you imagine the comments section? They're going to Olivia Rodrigo just because her surname sounds similar.
00:16:31
Global Sports Podcast Network
And they've kidss have also gone on to Rodrigo de Paul's Instagram, have a go at him thinking he's there. They've gone on to Taylor Swift, Yulipa, name the lot, anyone who they think would have had an influence on who won that award.
00:16:43
Global Sports Podcast Network
It's pure dog's abuse from Eldred fans and it's awful. I think the the reason the retaliation from
00:16:47
Marcus Ramtohul
My God.
00:16:49
Global Sports Podcast Network
team-mates of Manisius Jr. Mario Lamina's Instagram story was the strangest thing I've seen all week. He said, buy football. I was like, mate, we'll see you at three o'clock on and Saturday when you play for Wolves, mate. It's not like you're retiring because Manisius Jr. hasn't won the Ballon d'Or. He's never even played. I can't even think if he's played with him before. I mean, you look at The outrage is ridiculous. I think Roger should have won it. But on to the women's Ballon d'Or as well. Bombati, well deserved. She was by far the clear winner. She's been brilliant for Barso and Spain won the World Cup. There was no question there.

Significance of Spanish players' Ballon d'Or wins

00:17:20
Louie Easton
Well, i I went to the Chelsea versus Barcelona women's game at Stamford Bridge last season. It was a semifinal and she didn't she didn't really stand out to me there because she wasn't a massive part of that semifinal. But the influence she has on that squad, you can tell from a mile away. She is, I mean, the entire team loves her. All of Spain loves her realistically as well.
00:17:48
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, it's brilliant. It's also brilliant for Spanish football, isn't it? Because don't run the league and the men's Spanish League have had their winners consecutively over the last 15 years with Messi and Ronaldo. But to have a player, a Manchester City player who's Spanish and a midfielder and then a Spanish women's midfielder for Barcelona both win the Ballon d'Or at the same time. It's historical. Yeah, I'm not sure if we've seen that before. And I don't think we were probably going to see it for the next few years.
00:18:13
Global Sports Podcast Network
Apart from that, ah but but we we'll move away from Vanishes, June and Rodridge, do you think anyone else should have had like an inside shout at winning the Ballon d'Or?
00:18:21
Louie Easton
I think Bellingham really has been overlooked because his influence on Real Madrid in the first half of that season and that last-minute goal in El Clasico, he slot right into that midfield seamlessly and he was scoring goals every single week.
00:18:37
Louie Easton
People were getting bored of him scoring and the fact that he's a midfielder doing that is...
00:18:42
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah. But you you have to remember as well, you have to remember as well, Ancelotti was playing him as a false nine when he first came into Real Madrid pretty much because of the injuries in his squad.
00:18:43
Louie Easton
I i think that's normalised.
00:18:51
Global Sports Podcast Network
But I want to give you a little hot take on Duke Bellingham. The PR around him, for how young he is, he's English, plays Real Madrid. I think you think higher higher of him if you don't watch him. I think that's the case because you look at me, and I've
00:19:02
Louie Easton
No, but... That's a bit of a wild take, to be honest.
00:19:07
Global Sports Podcast Network
And i've spoken to ah I've spoken to a lot of people about this and they so they they somewhat agree, obviously it's a very hot take. I think, don't get me wrong, he's an absolutely world-class footballer, but he gets held at such a high accolade when Performances wise, he's he's over the last sort of maybe even six months, but anywhere after the Champions Final, for England, yes, he was the main man in that squad, but look, this season, he's not been as good in either of Real Madrid since the inclusion of Bapay.
00:19:33
Global Sports Podcast Network
I'm going off the last few weeks, and I know that completely changed, and it's a hot take, but I just wanted to raise the question to you guys of how actually good is Du Bellingham to have finished third in the Ballon d'Or?
00:19:40
Louie Easton
Well, can I just make a counter-argument?
00:19:42
Global Sports Podcast Network
i'm just kind of play doubles
00:19:43
Louie Easton
Can I just make a counter-argument to that? You said this season. What about Rogerie this season?
00:19:48
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:19:49
Marcus Ramtohul
ah
00:19:49
Global Sports Podcast Network
Well, it's a calendar year, isn't it, for for the Ballain d'Or?
00:19:52
Louie Easton
yeah Yeah, but you just said you know this season.
00:19:55
Louie Easton
I'm using your own logic against you. um ah Listen, I don't watch that much La Liga. I mostly focus on the Premier League, but when I have watched La Liga, Bellingham, I agree with the fact that he hasn't been as involved this season in Real Madrid's attack.
00:19:55
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah yeah
00:20:10
Louie Easton
It's all been about Vinicius Jr. and Rodrigo, mostly. but i'm I'm basing this on his first season at Real Madrid and the Euros.
00:20:18
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, yeah.
00:20:18
Louie Easton
Jude Bellingham has been very, very disrespected um since the Euros. Obviously, doing it for England, you're going to be under the magnifying glass non-stop.
00:20:24
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:20:28
Louie Easton
But I'm talking about that last-minute equalizer as well, the bicycle kick.
00:20:28
Marcus Ramtohul
Yeah.
00:20:34
Louie Easton
ah ah It's moments like that and the El Clasico last minute goal. You look to players for moments like that and you know Bellingham really does have it all and I think he has been too disrespected recently. I don't know what you think Marcus.
00:20:34
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah
00:20:50
Marcus Ramtohul
Yeah, I'd 100% agree. I've seen Bellingham in the flesh. And what I think people forget as well is, um Tom, you mentioned him starting as as a false nine for beginning of the season. He's such a good player.
00:21:01
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:21:01
Marcus Ramtohul
He has this curse that he's put anywhere. And I think he's put anywhere in that midfield and, you know, put it filling in in a false nine role, wherever that is. And he's still doing an incredible job.
00:21:13
Marcus Ramtohul
And that mentality that he has to to take that leadership role and grab a team by the scruff of the neck and say, no, no, no, we're not losing this game is absolutely incredible. And it's it's hard being an Englishman playing in Spain.
00:21:26
Marcus Ramtohul
and And the thing is, as well, he's not having a bad season. He's just not having the season he was having at the beginning.
00:21:32
Global Sports Podcast Network
That's what I was trying to get at before.
00:21:33
Louie Easton
Are you saying are you saying he's a victim of his own standards?
00:21:35
Global Sports Podcast Network
That's what I was trying to get at. Yeah, he is he is a victim of his own standards because of the high bar he set.
00:21:37
Marcus Ramtohul
Yeah, absolutely.
00:21:41
Global Sports Podcast Network
Olivia, I want to say thank you very much for falling into my trap and that's a clip for the socials.
00:21:47
Louie Easton

Global Sports Podcast Network, every club, every day. A little bit wary of time, guys, so I'm just going to try and round off with your takeaways from the weekend. There were some big results over the weekend. We're going to move away from Manchester United for now because I think me and Mike covered that a hell of a lot

Weekend wrap-up and highlights

00:22:29
Global Sports Podcast Network
on Sunday. We've covered it too much this episode. I want to head towards maybe some of the lower teams. We louie will come to you first. What were your big enough takeaways from the weekend?
00:22:35
Louie Easton
Well, I think there is one player that I do want to discuss and I could give you a hundred guesses on who it's going to be ah and you probably wouldn't get it. so Mark Travers.
00:22:46
Marcus Ramtohul
Chriswood. Oh!
00:22:47
Louie Easton
No. Mark Travers. That man put in an incredible, incredible shift for Bournemouth against Aston Villa. Bournemouth, we kind of wrote off before the weekend because we thought Aston Villa just simply had too much quality um Obviously, Eddie Martinez just picked up the Leviation Awards at the Ballon d'Or ceremony.
00:23:06
Louie Easton
That's a different conversation, whether you agree with that one or not. But we kind of looked to that match thinking, well, Bournemouth aren't going to get anything.
00:23:12
Global Sports Podcast Network
Thank you.
00:23:13
Louie Easton
And it was a weekend of late equalizers or late winners. Evan Ilsen, 96th minute. And um I think he got all of the praise for that goal. But Mark Travers faced seven shots and kept almost everything out.
00:23:29
Louie Easton
Just that one goal against Ross Barkley. But ah I think he's a bit of an un ah unsung hero over the weekend.
00:23:38
Global Sports Podcast Network
I think Bournemouth are this typical Premier League team that you think they've come up from the championship, they go down, come up, go down, come up, and I think they they they can be a little bit of a...
00:23:44
Marcus Ramtohul
yeah
00:23:48
Global Sports Podcast Network
A controversial topic. I think that Antonio Real is the perfect manager for Bournemouth. I think they don't have so many talents in the squad that you look at and go top six, comes with one of them, but they have a system that works and suits them perfectly.
00:23:52
Louie Easton
He's brilliant.
00:24:02
Global Sports Podcast Network
They didn't even worry and flinch when they lost Solanke, really, did they? Bournemouth fans weren't too worried because they know they have the quality to score goals, and we've seen that said this season.
00:24:06
Marcus Ramtohul
Mm hmm.
00:24:11
Global Sports Podcast Network
Austin Villa on the other hand, I think they're a little bit of a victim of their own success with the Champions League.
00:24:14
Louie Easton
Yeah.
00:24:15
Global Sports Podcast Network
i think the adrenaline of those midweek games for the first time since 1982, it's getting to them a little bit.
00:24:15
Louie Easton
Yeah.
00:24:20
Global Sports Podcast Network
Marcus, before we end, your your your your takes away from the last weekend's fixtures.
00:24:24
Marcus Ramtohul
Gio, so much ah fantastic stuff over the weekend. I won't talk about Arsenal if I'm sure that'd be covered by the other guys um and in much more detail. Cole Palmer again, that pass.
00:24:35
Louie Easton
That passed.
00:24:37
Marcus Ramtohul
Oh my God, ridiculous. and But interesting to see some focus on on the bottom teams. I was really impressed with Palace's win against Tottenham. I know it was only one goal, but
00:24:47
Global Sports Podcast Network
as essayist test oh my god
00:24:48
Marcus Ramtohul
oh gosh really that touch but that was that was but that moment for me encapsulated i watched palace looking like a team that isn't struggling it looked they were standing tall chest puffed out they were like we are going to win this game and and and they did so that was really exciting and just my takeaway this point in the season what we on match week 10 coming up
00:24:49
Global Sports Podcast Network
you
00:25:10
Global Sports Podcast Network
As I discussed,
00:25:11
Marcus Ramtohul
the importance really now for squad depth in terms of substitutes from the 60th minute and how that's really becoming so much part of the game.
00:25:16
Global Sports Podcast Network
oh my God.
00:25:19
Marcus Ramtohul
It's not just oh who's going to fit in if someone's injured but really this is how you manage 90 minutes now. That leads on to the next point it's never 90 minutes do not switch off it's going to be 94, 96, 98 and the other important thing
00:25:28
Louie Easton
and Exactly.
00:25:34
Marcus Ramtohul
and All these, you know, specialist coaches, the set pieces really turned games around this weekend. and So something to watch out for. I feel like nobody will ever want to give away a free kick or a corner ever again.
00:25:45
Louie Easton
Yeah. ah
00:25:47
Global Sports Podcast Network
Definitely. And with that being said, Marcus, I think it's time to thank everybody for listening for another installment of the Daily English Premier League Podcast brought to you by GSPN. Will the Reuben Amorin be a success at Manchester United?
00:25:59
Global Sports Podcast Network
Is Andon Iola the perfect fit for Bournemouth? And did you think Roderick should have won the Bandle? There's your headlines for this week. I'm sure they'll be debated for the next probably two years or so due to social media.
00:26:10
Global Sports Podcast Network
Goodbye from me.
00:26:12
Marcus Ramtohul
Goodbye from me.
00:26:13
Louie Easton
And a goodbye from me. Thank you.
