Introduction and Controversies in the Premier League

00:00:09
Mikey
A big warm welcome to the Daily English Premier League podcast, where we brought to you by DSPN. My name is Mikey and I am joined by the one and only Staptician, master of numbers. It's the one and only Tom Jolly. How are we, sir?
00:00:24
Global Sports Podcast Network
I am fuming as a Manchester United fan because I still can't go over how on earth that was given as a penalty, but apart from that, a very good weekend of football.

Weekend Matches Recap

00:00:35
Mikey
yeah absolutely lots and lots of things to talk about and this is coming out on a monday to you guys listening so we're going to cover all the games that have been played over the weekend and where else should we start other than in order with lester against forest a very interesting game but it was a 3-1 victory to Forrest and then we'll jump on to Saturday's fixtures and then we'll jump into talking about a few of these Tom. I like to hear your ideas and thoughts as always. ah Villa Park saw a 90 plus six minutes equalizer by Bournemouth as that finished one all. Brentford and Ipswich was a phenomenal seven goal thriller for three no less.
00:01:18
Mikey
And then we had four goals. I mean, who says the Premier League's boring? Jesus Christ, what a weekend of football. and We had four goals with Brighton against Wolves. I'm pretty sure, I can't remember now, yeah, that was another 90 plus three minutes equaliser. Two late goals for Wolves to bring it back against Brighton. um City did what we expected, but maybe underwhelmed. But don't all great teams pull out these results and make it count.
00:01:48
Mikey
1-0 beating Southampton and pushing them to that excruciating extension of the record 22 straight losses. I think that's right.
00:01:59
Mikey
You're correct me if I'm wrong. What are you, Tom?
00:02:00
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, I think that is correct.
00:02:02
Mikey
And

Surprise Performances and Struggles

00:02:03
Mikey
then we had Everton Fulham, which finished one all at Goodison Park. Tom, where would you like to begin?
00:02:10
Global Sports Podcast Network
I want to start on Friday. We might as well go in chronological order because it was Leicester City versus Nottingham Forest and Chris Wood doing what Chris Wood does. I mean, that man's been on fire recently. I think I'm the only person in my group that plays FBI but hasn't had him and it's absolutely killed me. The New east Zealand International has been on fire, netted again on Friday, isn't it?
00:02:29
Global Sports Podcast Network
3-1 win for Nottingham Forest but Jamie Vardy back on the score sheet as well so it was a tale of the old classic Premier League number nines I guess you could say on Friday.
00:02:38
Mikey
Yeah, absolutely. um And Forrest took an early lead, and like you said, Vardy was back to his usual tricks, maybe I had an extra red ball this weekend, and equalised, but Chris Wood ah seems to have hit a vein of form, um and he's he's becoming quite the the um asset for Forest I'd say, scoring two goals and bringing it to 3-1 and I thought it was quite comfortable after after the early equal, well the quite quick response from Leicester, what do you think?
00:03:12
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, i I just think overall, from a Nottingham Forest point of view, they would never have expected to have the start of the season that they had. I mean, as far as I'm aware, they they they sit inside the top six on the table at the moment, don't they, when we're recording this? So it's a case of, I think everyone counted them out at the start of the season because of the situation on the club. But if you look to, for example, the the starting and lineup for Nottingham Forest, there was only one player of the 22 or so that Steve Cooper signed while he was there and but when they were in the Premier League that started on Friday.
00:03:41
Global Sports Podcast Network
and you you look at the recruitment around the club and go, well, they've got such a good defence in a sense that they've got Marillo in there who I really highly rate. You've you've obviously got a solid it's solid enough backline for a mid-table primitive, and then the attack, Chris Wood, Anthony Alanga, and Colin Hudson.
00:03:54
Mikey
Thank you.
00:03:56
Global Sports Podcast Network
Colin Hudson was only 23. This is something that I completely forgot about. I mean, he broke through at Chelsea, didn't he, as a wingback on the Thomas Tuchel, then went on loan to Leverkus and did okay, then came back and was obviously sold on,
00:04:07
Global Sports Podcast Network
to Nottingham Forest. So from a point of view of Uno Spiritus Unso, it's been a superb start to the season. I don't think many other people expected it.
00:04:15
Mikey
No, that that's Maddy's that young as well. I thought he was well older than that.
00:04:19
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, it was one of them it was one of those where there's a lot of players in and around the Premier League that are a lot younger, or a lot older than you think. I mean, but we'll we'll get on some of those later, especially one that decided to score a late equaliser on at the Emirates. But we'll move on to Saturday and we'll start off with, as you mentioned before, Aston Villa versus Bournemouth. There was no hard 12 kick off, so we head straight to the three o'clock. And Aston Villa Bournemouth, Villa struggled a little bit, I thought.
00:04:44
Mikey
Yeah, absolutely. um I thought they were quite lucky to be ah to take the lead in that game. and But I did think they were going to see it out because that seems to be what Villa do when when they struggled to get a grip of the game and and they managed to get an edge on it. ah They sometimes managed to see it out and you thought when they'd got to the latest edge of that game. and It was all over, and but Evan Eelson proved us wrong and equalised for Bournemouth, who have also had, I think, a very good start to the season.
00:05:16
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, I think it's been a really underrated as well, hasn't it? Especially likewise to Forrest. I mean, we saw them last season, didn't they? They really struggled in the first eight games since we even pick up a win. But I think everyone thought at the start of this season, and they may struggle without Solanke. But in my opinion, they've been superb. Evan Olsen has been he's been OK since his comment. He's obviously this it was his first goal um or early on during his bond career the week of the weekend. But as a whole,
00:05:41
Global Sports Podcast Network
Antonio Yurio was a really good manager. He settled in really well at Bournemouth. Don't get me wrong, as I mentioned, he did have that strugglesome spell at the start of his career at the Vitality. But as a whole, they're a very strong outlet and they they seem to be adapting to a similar model to Brighton. We'll sell on our more talented players for a very high fee and we'll build around the players that maybe no one has ever heard of, but they're superb, for example, Sameno.
00:06:03
Mikey
Yeah, absolutely. um And then what about the seven goal for other talkers through that? There was a red card in it. It literally had everything penalties on goals, the law.
00:06:12
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, Brian and Bueno saved the day, didn't they? I mean, a penalty and a goal in what was it, the 96th minute, I think it was.
00:06:18
Mikey
Yeah.
00:06:18
Global Sports Podcast Network
I remember I was walking around in Manchester over the weekend and I was checking my phone and I thought, oh, Remtford, you know, they were the banker. You thought they, in the words of Gary Neville, they were the banker. They were the one that weren't weren't going to fail.
00:06:29
Global Sports Podcast Network
They were the one that never failed. And they all like they were going to fail against Ipswich at home. And then um Brian and Boomer hits it later on, and then Liam Delappe hitting the bar in one of the last dying moments of the game. But Brentford, an absolute thrill. And it it's one of those where Ixwich really pushed them all the way. And I think Keiran will be really, really disappointed not to get at least a point out of that game. But Thomas Frank, what a superb manager.
00:06:52
Mikey
Yeah, I've got to ask you though, I feel like we've sat and spoke about ever Ipswich beg your pardon, multiple times about how well they've performed, but they seem to be coming short against teams and not getting points on the board. Do you think it will be the same story throughout the season or are they going to be able to to make these perform? I mean, I'd much rather This is talked about quite a lot, but at the end of the day, football requires results. and Performance, as good as it is, will not keep you in the Premier League. So I think I'd rather watch my team play badly and win or draw than playing well. And everyone's saying, oh, what a great side there. It's quite refreshing, but they'll still end up going down. I can see it happening already for Ipswich. What do you think?
00:07:39
Global Sports Podcast Network
I think for Kevin McKenna's charter boys, I think it's a case of Doug and Ron, they played brilliant football, but they've recruited for the championship next season. And it's really a case of they're one of the lesser teams without the quality compared to the others in and around them. So I think it might just be a case of they'll go down because they're just not as good as maybe

Manchester City and Everton's Tactical Insights

00:07:59
Global Sports Podcast Network
the one or two in around 16th to 17th position and they just can't get the results. and need to make they need They need to make their home form a hell of a lot better, I think. I don't get it wrong, going away to Brenton and scoring three is brilliant, but if you can see four and don't pick up a point, there's no point, is there? So but in in a sense of their home form, I think they need to start maybe adapting, maybe Kermak needs to be a little bit less naive. I think
00:08:20
Global Sports Podcast Network
it' It's a clear definition with the the promoted managers and it's Steve Cooper's Premier League known. Kieran McKenna and Russell Martin haven't really been in and around the top flight that much. So when you look at Ipswich in particular, two back to back promotions in two years, I'd probably look at them and go, yeah, you'll go down, but you'll probably come back up again next year.
00:08:38
Mikey
Yeah, um you pull the right, let's jump on to Brighton Wolves. I mean, Brighton in the space of 30 minutes lost a two goal lead and in five minutes they conceded twice. I just think ah for Wolves, fantastic. For Brighton, very, very, very out of character.
00:08:56
Global Sports Podcast Network
I think from this is this is brilliant from Gary Neal's point of view, isn't it? Because they needed at least a point from this game. i Don't get me wrong, they haven't won a game yet this season, but they need to get they need to get out of that that hole. And they have had a torrid fixture list for this first eight or nine games, haven't they?
00:09:13
Mikey
Yes.
00:09:13
Global Sports Podcast Network
I feel like this result getting a get a point away at Brighton, it might just get them over the edge and get them moving again a little bit more towards the the busy festive period that we're about to get. I mean, the clock's went back this week and that signals the winter, that signals the end of British summertime and the the start of festive football, doesn't it? So from a sense of war, we should probably look at their fixtures now and go in. They can start picking up a few points now and they they they'll probably be okay come the end of the year. But don't go around, there's always going to be rumours on the sack of Gary Neal. From a Brighton point of view, brilliant to have Danny Welbeck straight back into the to the team and on the score sheet after the worries on his injury over the last sort of fortnight.
00:09:48
Global Sports Podcast Network
But it's really poor defence. I think that's the style of play that Brighton wants to play, isn't it? They want to play this, we're going to score more than you. We're just getting around, we're going to get our shots off and finish our big chances.
00:09:56
Mikey
Yeah.
00:10:00
Global Sports Podcast Network
the word big chance has been thrown around a lot on social media this weekend towards a few teams that have lost and Brighton seem to be the masters of it of finishing the big chances that they do get.
00:10:09
Mikey
Yeah.
00:10:10
Global Sports Podcast Network
Don't get runny, they probably should have had one or two more goals than they did but at the end of the day it's a brilliant point for Wolves.
00:10:16
Mikey
Yeah, no, I agree. I want to squeeze past City. they They made light work this Saturday. Five minutes, Harlan scored yet again, and they they kept a clean sheet. it was ah It was a routine performance for me, so I don't think we need to dive into that too much, really.
00:10:29
Global Sports Podcast Network
I don't want to dive into it too much but I think Harlan missed three big chances in that game. He missed two right at the back post which he should have scored. I mean ah feel sorry for anyone who triple captained him on fantasy football because you've had a torrid time this week with his points. And Cameron Archer, if he just had that little bit more quality at the end of the half-time interval, would have it would have been 1-1. I've heard from a lot of city fans this weekend that Southampton actually played really well on the ball.
00:10:55
Global Sports Podcast Network
but they weren't doing anything with it. And I think that's the story of Southampton season so far, isn't it? They looked really well on the ball, really aesthetically pleasing, but they're not getting the fact getting into the final word third and getting the attacking prowess in and around the box to ah score their chances from. So I guess we will skip over City a little bit more, but they just do what they do, don't they?
00:11:14
Mikey
Yeah, and yeah, exactly. And i'd I'd have gone as far to say that if Southampton equalised, they'd have probably won three or four, one. And and then finally, go to some park, Everton, Fulham. Finish one all.
00:11:26
Mikey
Everything seems to have hit a little bit of form, I'd go as far to say with the last few results. I'm doing what's happened, doing, oh, how do I say that? Doing what's been done to them a few times, which is scoring late and to scrape away a few points, well, a point. Not bad performance, I wouldn't say.
00:11:46
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, I said a few weeks ago on here, didn't I, that if you if you were to sack Sean Dyche, the man that you'd want to replace Sean Dyche is Sean Dyche.
00:11:54
Mikey
Absolutely.
00:11:54
Global Sports Podcast Network
That's the best way you could put it. I mean, I mean, we've seen Ian Holloway come back into management and swindom this week, which is a bit of a tale of the tape of the old managers. And Sean Dyche has definitely got the philosophy of one of those older managers use the bit of grit.
00:12:06
Global Sports Podcast Network
None of this air woke nonsense of playing out the back, I guess you could call it.
00:12:10
Mikey
Yeah.
00:12:10
Global Sports Podcast Network
And as a whole, I think he's the man that you would want in there at Everton. And he's turned it around. He's getting points. Brilliant win last week. A point against Fulham this week. He's not a bad result by any stretch of means. And Iwobi and Smithrow, the two exiles, my boys combining to score a Goodison.
00:12:24
Global Sports Podcast Network
It was a brilliant finish from Iwobi. And ah it was it was i I don't want to get on this too much, but I hate the fact that players don't celebrate when they we score against their old team. They're your ex-employer. like you are You're employed for this team to score goals and create chances and celebrate.
00:12:39
Global Sports Podcast Network
You're getting paid to do it.
00:12:40
Mikey
Yeah, yeah.
00:12:41
Global Sports Podcast Network
Have some fun. None of this ah nonsense where you're not a celebrate. But anyway, Mikey, it's time to talk about Zane Castor.
00:13:22
Global Sports Podcast Network
Thank you very much, Jesse, for that little interlude. Talk to us about the platform we use here at the Global Sports Podcast Network in Zencaster. Let's move in to Sunday's results, Mikey. And there's nowhere else to start but at the London Stadium.
00:13:36
Mikey
Yeah,

Manchester United's Challenges and Criticisms

00:13:37
Mikey
go and talk to us.
00:13:40
Global Sports Podcast Network
A torrid, torrid time to be a Manchester United fan. I think that's the best way to put it. Five big chances missed in the first half. Bruno Fernando should have had four assists. Garnaccio hit the bar. United should have been clear and practised on the way back up to Manchester by half time with three points. That was not the story. It was nil, no half time. West Ham go in front through Sanzio Somerville, brilliant goal by him, good work from Danny Ings and then Manchester now equalised through Casa Mira and then I thought, you know what, at this point it's going to be a point.
00:14:09
Global Sports Podcast Network
and then the absolutely absurd referee and decision to give a penalty on a foul on Danny Ings. First of all, he's humbled the ball before it's even gone to all, before it's even the challenges he've committed. Matisse has got his eyes straight on the ball, and he's got the he's gone, don't go wrong, he's clipped the knee of Danny Ings, but Danny Ings goes down like an absolute sack of bricks. You'd think he'd been shot. It was absolutely atrocious. And then for five minutes to go by,
00:14:37
Global Sports Podcast Network
And then David Kooten has said, right, we've been told by Michael Oliver and knows it's not the part that we need to go and check this. And then to give it when it wasn't even a clear and obvious error in the first place, the definition of VAR at the start of this season was we were lonely we will only overturn the unfilled decision if it is a clear and obvious error. If you have to spend more than 60 seconds deciding if it's an error or not, carry on. It's not an error. I think everyone in the world will agree I mean, don't get me wrong, West Ham plans will be buzzing with this. I mean, it was a brilliant penalty by Jared Bowen and converted beautifully. But it's an awful decision. I can't wait to to see in a few hours time the PGML statement. And I wouldn't surprise me by the time that this podcast comes out and when you guys that are listening are listening to this, that there's probably been a statement released already about how it wasn't a penalty.
00:15:25
Global Sports Podcast Network
and for Manchester United to then have to suffer through that and the injustice ah of that penalty to then lose in another point. Don't get me wrong, the first half, United played very well but they needed to convert their chances. We've missed 22 big chances so far this season. We've created 26 in the league and not converted 22. That is an 85% chance of failure in the final third through a big chance. That is the reason that Manchester United are 14th in the league right now.
00:15:52
Global Sports Podcast Network
And don't get me wrong, with there is there is scrutiny to be on Tenderhug's head, but today was a clear case of he can't score for them. And you have to be converting the chances that we are presented to you by the likes of Brunerfielders, Ericsson, Garnaccio in the midfield, and we just didn't do that. And don't get me wrong, really brilliant three points West Ham. It's their third win of the season, but from a Manchester United point of view, it's a torrid time.
00:16:14
Mikey
Yeah, i i you said so many things there that I wanted to jump in on. um I think, I think that, I think, I think from Eric's point of view, ah I've got many groups and on social media. There's so many people coming out saying he needs to be sacked now That's got to be the end of it final mail in the coffin But I'm on I'm on team Tom dollar when it comes to ah the view on ten hard I don't really know what else he could do differently, you know, is's he's create like you said the game should be three four at least at halftime and
00:16:48
Mikey
de Delo missed an open net. He can't physically pull put the ball in the net for his team. The penalty was a harsh decision. um i thought which is probably You have mentioned it a couple of times, but Onana did everything he could possibly do to save that penalty, but that just tells you how good the penalty was. He went the right way and he had an extremely big stretch on it, but Boeing tucking that into the bottom corner at power is quite the skill. Mint for the Hammers, rubbish for United, but I don't know. I just think
00:17:26
Mikey
There's hope in it. And yeah, the decision has gone against them at the end, which has cost them three points. But I don't think it's a vital three points this year. I don't think you United are destined to do anything amazing this year. and So ah I think the all that you can do as a United fan is seek the positives in games and try and build on those.
00:17:47
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, I really just hope, I mean, we don't get me wrong, we've got only got, what, three days or so until Manchester United face Leicester at home in the Cup on Wednesday. But it really wouldn't surprise me if the fanbase turns to civil war once again over the the question of whether the Dutch Mint should stay in charge or not.
00:18:02
Mikey
Yeah, no, I agree. I agree. but

Chelsea's Young Talents Shining

00:18:04
Mikey
But that will that will be remain to be seen. um We just have to stop to see as as you know, it finds it has taken its that tough ones to swallow. But for West Ham, they rode the look in the first half.
00:18:15
Mikey
They came out second half as a different outfit, I thought. ah And.
00:18:18
Global Sports Podcast Network
Do you know what that was? I was practically doubling up on Alejandro Garnaccio. he was the He was the breaking point for Manchester United in the first half. And he was creating all the chances.
00:18:27
Mikey
Yeah.
00:18:27
Global Sports Podcast Network
And you saw towards the end of the first half, they were trying to double up on him. And he kind of had ah a little bit of toy time trying to get on the ball and trying to create something. That's where the space for Diogo Delo and the other side to make the deep run came from.
00:18:38
Global Sports Podcast Network
um And he tends to do that a lot. Doesn't need Diogo Delo. He tends to get forward down the right or left hand side and try and get forward a lot. But it leaves massive gaping gaps. And he is one of the reasons why Manchester United conceded to some of the book.
00:18:50
Global Sports Podcast Network
We'll say Manchester United didn't want to enter in the week.
00:18:51
Mikey
Move on. Yeah, absolutely. um
00:18:53
Global Sports Podcast Network
me chelsea I think is the next one, isn't it? Because I've been really impressed with Chelsea. I've been really impressed with Nicholas Jackson in particular. Really wasn't impressed with him last year. This year, I feel like he's matured massively.
00:19:06
Mikey
Yeah, no, absolutely. I can't remember exactly what I started, so I don't want to say it, but I think he is the youngest player to reach so many goals, 20 goals, I think, for Chelsea or something like that.
00:19:17
Global Sports Podcast Network
i something
00:19:18
Mikey
Fastest to get 20 Premier League goals in Chelsea's history.
00:19:22
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, he's got five goals and three assists this season so far, which is superb for someone of his quality and and his age as well. I mean, he's leading the line for Chelsea. I think I remember seeing something on on the on but watching the game, obviously beforehand.
00:19:36
Global Sports Podcast Network
ah this afternoon tuning in and out of your Manchester United game more heavily than the Chelsea game as well. and um He's been one of those players where he's come in and it's very similar to, not that they're anywhere near in quality, but Didier Drogba, in the sense that Didier Drogba had a really slow time at the start of his Chelsea career in his first season, did okay, and then i i mean we know what his is history from then on, isn't it?
00:19:55
Global Sports Podcast Network
um'm not saying ni
00:19:55
Mikey
Yeah, definitely.
00:19:56
Global Sports Podcast Network
and levels but I feel like they've finally found their answer to the number 9 they kind of wanted to come and link up. please He's got the pacing iron, nice on the turn, good half decent first such and can definitely finish and I think it's the same case with the Senegalese men, isn't it?
00:20:08
Mikey
Yeah, yeah, definitely. He's he's he's he made it faster when he goes faster than drug but good Johnson and the alley which is among some quite special names in in Premier League history there. ah But if you did you watch that game or not?
00:20:22
Global Sports Podcast Network
i've seen I've seen bits, i've so I've seen bits here and there, ah but I thought obviously Cole Palmer's pass as well was brilliant for the second goal.
00:20:29
Mikey
Cole Palmer was was the difference for me and In Chelsea e he has the ability at such a young age to To grab a game with the scruff of the neck because that game was anyone's for the taking came into the second half and his I don't know, I think he's he's just got that confidence, that arrogance, which is is, I'm willing to have a pop. His goal was, it was good. You could argue it was bad goalkeeping, but because he's got the confidence to take that on, yeah, keeper was caught out. and
00:21:00
Mikey
It was a very routine performance. I think Chelsea had been

Arsenal's Missed Opportunities Against Liverpool

00:21:03
Mikey
playing some good football um and managing games quite well. It always looked quite comfortable, I thought, in that game, ah even though it was at 1-0. I thought it was a good game and, as you say, Chelsea are doing ah a sterling job. Shall we jump on to the top of table-class um at the Emirates?
00:21:23
Global Sports Podcast Network
ah Yeah, cool, then. Well, we'll go with that. and then anddo um Well, we might as well talk about the Spurs one first and then finish on Arsenal Liverpool, actually, because moving from West London to South London, Crystal Palace doing a job as a what an assist. Little flick over with the right foot behind his back to Mateta, nice finish for him. But Spurs just didn't have any of the answers for for Crystal Palace, did they? And that's that. Crystal Palace is first. When if you were to pick out a fixture in their first eight or nine that Crystal Palace would have won, you wouldn't have picked Spurs at home. It was a brilliant performance by Palace. Finally sorted out those midfield issues that they've had.
00:21:53
Global Sports Podcast Network
so far this has dug around, I suppose they'd create a chance, but they just couldn't find the key to unlock Crystal Palace's defence in a good three points to Crystal Palace. With that being said, I guess we might as well just move straight on to the the Arsenal game. Obviously, Arsenal versus Liverpool, there was no Saliba. This was one where when Bakaio Saka scored very early on, I thought, ooh, this could be two or three or four if if Arsenal kept it up. And then obviously Virgil van Dijk equalising, not that long afterwards. and then Michael Moreno. Van Dijk just leaving his leg in, played Moreno on side, another set-piece goal for Arsenal, and then Mohamed Salah sco it scoring Liverpool's first goal this season after the 76th minute. They've not scored a goal this season in the final 15-20 minutes of a game tilt to until Sunday, and and obviously Mohamed Salah doing the good stuff. The pass from Trent Alexander-Arnold was world-class.

world class. um I watched that game. I found it quite interesting. I don't want to go on about too much, hence because of the time that we're at. But and in the second half, Liverpool went into the second half to one down. And I was really disappointed at how Arsenal managed that game. ah They didn't, they didn't do, and they they set up shop and allowed Liverpool to play. They didn't do what I would think to manage a football game. They lost possession of the ball so, so quickly. And and they didn't have anyone anyone willing to take, you know, to to to play tactically, to play professional football where you where you're run down the clock or you're building on ferrules or throwings. There was just none of that. And Liverpool came and came and came. And as you said, for Trent Alexander Arnold, who is normally consistently phenomenal at passing,

today he was he was off his mark off his best which is it's quite hard to say but then like you say if you've got class it is permanent and one of those passes will be right and what a pass it was and i've also got to say on that because it will be overlooked

The newness past that he squares to Salah is so easy to get wrong.

At speed, he could play it too far. In front of him, too far behind him, it was perfect. And you would trust Salah to finish from where he did, obviously. and

I really thought Nuno's messed up the past when I first saw it. I thought, oh, Kiril was going to get there. And then you just see Salah, it just drifts onto his left foot and it was perfect. But I don't think Liverpool were too far off, too far at it today. I think this was one of their off days. I think this is probably one of their, not one of their better performances in the Premier League so far this season.

I think Virgil van Dijk was superb, as he is usually always is for Liverpool. I thought Salah was a bit absent on that right-hand side at times, but obviously if you give the man a shooting opportunity within what eight yards out was it, he's obviously going to score it. And then from an also point of view, don't get me wrong, they had Gabriel and Timba both come off. They were missing Saliba. That's an excuse, right? But for me, their game management was awful because they got caught in two minds for Liverpool's second goal, didn't they?
00:24:54

they were they would they run the They got caught on the transition by Liverpool with a worldview of a pass by Trent, which obviously without Trent Alexander on of being the the orchestrator of Liverpool's attack in that position, it's not going to happen. But at the same time, they were caught in two minds of right to be sitting this bank over 442 and just shut up shop for 25, 30 minutes.

but he would try and go and get another. Obviously, they did get a disallowed goal, but Anthony Taylor blew the whistle of what was it, probably two, three minutes beforehand, in and he was never going to get given. But at the same time, they got caught out on the transition by Liverpool. And I think that's a bit of a mismatch of Michael Arteta trying to be a master of the dark arts like Jose Mourinho, but trying to control games at the same time like Pep. And I feel like his players got caught in two minds of what to do. And I think that was what caused them, obviously, to end up with a point and not three today.

Yeah and ah just not to go into it too much because the guys will cover that tomorrow but the the i don't I think you're absolutely bang on with what you're saying and but I think Arsenal if they'd have if they'd have maintained and that first idea of of setting up to stop Liverpool playing. It was actually working. It's when they went on the counter and put some bodies forward that it took one pass and and in ah in a very, very quick move they conceded. and it's wonder I just wonder how much these these games are weighing very heavily at the end towards the end of the Premier League season already. ah the

every club, every day. Very wary of time, Mikey. So before we end, I think we might as well just round off with the Premier League table. So after game week nine in the top flight in English football, Manchester City lead the way at the top with 23 points. Liverpool Arsenal and Villa bring out the top four. Manchester United, according to Oxford Predictions, Mikey, have a higher chance of finishing 15th than in the top four this season. After nine games played, they find themselves 14th West. That moved above them.

with three points at the London Stadium or the big ones nothing at Forest City 7th, Leicester City still in 15th and Ipswich Wolves and Southampton prop up the table. I think that's all the time we've got for today, Mikey. Thank you very much.
