Introduction and Episode Overview

00:00:08
Global Sports Podcast Network
Welcome back to the Daily English Premier League Podcast, brought to you by GSPN. My name is Tom Jolly, and today I'm joined by a man who I've not done one with in a while, and that's a job to enjoy, mate.
00:00:18
Japtej
Yeah, I'm good. Nice to be back with you.
00:00:21
Global Sports Podcast Network
Now there's a lot to talk about this week, including some little bit of refereeing controversy, but we'll get onto that later on in the episode. And we'll kick it off with some of the Saturday results from the last weekend of Premier League action that's left the table in quite the state.
00:00:35
Global Sports Podcast Network
And I say that as if it could be in a bad way. It's definitely in a good way for the neutral.

Brentford vs Bournemouth Analysis

00:00:40
Global Sports Podcast Network
We'll start off on Saturday, Brentford three, Bournemouth two. I took VISA out of my FPL team, Jocktage, before this.
00:00:46
Japtej
well Hey, have you, have you got in Waymo on your team?
00:00:48
Global Sports Podcast Network
and
00:00:50
Global Sports Podcast Network
i I think I was looking at it this afternoon, forty two percent of all Premier League FPL managers have and bumo and it'd be stupid not to, but a brilliant performance by Bournemouth, Bremford, sorry.
00:01:01
Japtej
Definitely. Yeah, I think that they're in good form, aren't they? They're 11th and I mentioned it before we came on air.

Fulham's Triumph and Managerial Prospects

00:01:08
Japtej
There were only three points behind Chelsea in third, which is just insane when you think about it. One, one changed result and Brentwood could be third in the league.
00:01:17
Global Sports Podcast Network
and Fulham beating Crystal Palace by two goals to nil. It was once again the star show of the X Arsenal boys. And this is another one where I, Emile Smith, are on my bench in FPL. I'm not trying to make this episode all about ah my FPL blunders this week, but I'm pretty sure you've jumped above me in the GSBN table after I've been top for a few weeks, which is disappointing from my point of view.
00:01:27
Japtej
yeah ah
00:01:33
Japtej
Really? Okay.
00:01:37
Global Sports Podcast Network
But Fulham, they keep getting it done, don't they?
00:01:41
Japtej
Yeah, I mean, I think Marco Silva is a great manager. I actually thought when United were looking for a new manager, he could have been up there as one of the the managers in that discussion. I don't know if you think he's ready to take that sort of jump.
00:01:54
Global Sports Podcast Network
For Marco Silva, I think it's one of those where he's he's at that level where he's kind of mid-table Premier League. It'd be a very big gamble for a team in the top six to take someone of his quality.
00:02:06
Global Sports Podcast Network
um not I'm not saying he's not good, but I'm saying the fact that the jump from Fulham to a big team, obviously we saw it with Graham Potter, didn't we, from Brighton to Chelsea and it didn't work out.
00:02:12
Japtej
Mm.
00:02:14
Global Sports Podcast Network
I mean, you knew that the best out of all of us working with Chelsea. So for for me, don't get me wrong, he's done brilliant at Fulham, but I think it might be too big of a jump to go to that next step, but he's doing a brilliant, he's done a brilliant job at Craven Cottage and I hope that that continues for him.

West Ham's Struggles and Future Prospects

00:02:29
Global Sports Podcast Network
West Ham 0 Everton 0, this is one of those where if you're an Everton fan you're probably disappointed, especially with the form that West Ham have been in recently.
00:02:37
Japtej
Yeah. I mean, I think, so me and Nick were talking about this last week on the podcast and we were sort of saying it could be a game that if West Ham don't win, Lopategi could get sacked. And I'm just thinking, you know, the Olympic stadium at home against Everton, they really had to be winning that. they They're, they're 14 in the league. They've, you know, they're really struggling. And I wonder just how long Lopategi's got left.
00:03:03
Global Sports Podcast Network
i think I think for me on Lopategi it's a strange one because he his summer recruitment looked really good and you look at the talent in and around that West Ham squad and the only thing you really look at them missing is a number nine.
00:03:09
Japtej
Hmm.
00:03:15
Global Sports Podcast Network
I know they've had full cook injured for parts of this season. Can he be the man that can regain some form for the Hammers? I'm not too sure. Don't go wrong. He was brilliant in the Euros for Germany and for Borussia Dortmund last season but is that purple patch going to translate now into West Ham?
00:03:29
Global Sports Podcast Network
It's similar for me of what we saw with Mateta last year. We saw him do so well at Crystal Palace towards the back end of last season. Is Fulcrum going to regain any form at West Ham? I'm not too sure, especially with the injuries he's had.
00:03:42
Japtej
Yeah, I mean, they've got a bad record with nines as well. You know, Skamaka came in a couple years ago, one of the hottest, you know, talents in European football and completely failed. And they keep just ending up coming back to Antonio. So I don't know, I feel like full court will struggle in the pram.

Wolves' Victory and City Under Pressure

00:04:00
Global Sports Podcast Network
and looking at Wolves as well, finally getting three points on the board at home to Southampton. Mateusz Cunier, he's that star man in and around that Wolves team, hasn't he? Has this game and Mateusz Cunier's performances in recent weeks in particular kept Gary O'Neill in the job?
00:04:15
Japtej
Yeah, I think so. I mean, this was a huge one. Their first Premier League win of the season. And that that was already, Wall Southampton was sort of a six-point relegation clash. So I think that's a massive win for Wolves. And to be fair, they've had such a difficult start to the season. They've literally played every one of like the top eight teams in their first 11 games.
00:04:37
Japtej
So now that they've got their first win, like you said, Kunyu's in good form, I feel like they'll gain a few more points and and should be okay for the next couple of months.
00:04:46
Global Sports Podcast Network
and into the big shock of the weekend now. Manchester City, in all competitions, lose four in a row. The first time Pep Guardiola's ever done that in his career. And as far as my memory goes back, I think it's the first time since 2014 that Manchester City have lost four in a row, which is a big achievement. Eric Tenharg never lost four in a row at Manchester City, I'm just saying. But Manchester City, I mean, they went one little ahead for Reading Ireland. They should have been one ahead. They were brilliant in the first 20 minutes. It felt like one of those games where they were going to prove a point.
00:05:15
Global Sports Podcast Network
But they did him. Brighton fought back. They made the tactical change at half time to bring the labour on him in field, and he was brilliant ah in the second half. And overall, a massive three points for Brighton, but the questions continue over Manchester City.
00:05:28
Japtej
Yeah, I mean, ah four four losses in a row for a manager like Pep, first time in his career, it's just crazy to get your head around. Especially when you consider that, you know, it all started just over a week ago against against Spurs, you know, one of the the biggest opponents that they struggle against. I mean, when you do look at their squad, you've got to have some sympathy because the injuries that they've got just insane I remember after that Spurs game, Pep Guardiola was saying, you know, we have 13 fit players. I think they've probably got about 15 fit players now. But when, you know, Kevin De Bruyne is just coming back, you know, Grealish is out.
00:06:09
Japtej
You've got so many big players out and then you've got a lot of youngsters coming into the team. Someone like Rico Lewis who I think is a brilliant player but because he's been pushed in so much into the starting 11, he's now struggling form wise and you can't then take him out to let him regain the form. So I do have some sympathy for Man City to be fair.
00:06:29
Global Sports Podcast Network
For me, I have sympathy for Pep Guardiola in a sense, because you look at the players, he's got to dispose of, they're all world-class. But the the questions a arise around him is that Jack Rheelish, I think he said he's trained once in the last two weeks.
00:06:42
Japtej
Hmm.
00:06:42
Global Sports Podcast Network
Now he's going to go and on England duty, you look at some of the other players in and around that squad, they're all going to go on international duty now. ah for the next two weeks for the nation's league. So I think Manchester have a real injury crisis due to just how good they are.
00:06:55
Global Sports Podcast Network
I think that is mainly what it is because don't get wrong, they have lost four in a row, but they'll continue to win games for the rest of the season. I'll still be up there at the end of the season.
00:07:02
Japtej
Yeah.
00:07:03
Global Sports Podcast Network
You looked at Ruben Diaz's quote this afternoon saying that he was asked about ESPN basically saying a Manchester team crisis. And are you still going to be able to win the Premier title? And you just said, please doubt us, which is shows the mentality of Ruben Diaz and that Manchester City team.
00:07:17
Japtej
Yeah.
00:07:18
Global Sports Podcast Network
Don't get me wrong, I know a lot of Manchester City fans and they're not happy with the performances of the team and the individual players, but you have to sympathise with them because they're in crisis, but not performance wise, but injuries wise, because so many of their players are getting injured because as I said, how good they are.
00:07:32
Global Sports Podcast Network
They're competing on every front, every season for the last five years. It's been continuous like that. And that's only going to take its toll. I mean, If you've got your Ballon d'Or winner in that midfield and he's not started any games and your win percentage drops by or halves essentially when he's not playing, it's a big problem.
00:07:48
Japtej
Yeah, I mean, I think that's a big one as well. After after their first couple of games without Rodri, I thought they were struggling. I think they just beat Wolves in the last minute, and did they just beat Southampton? Or they just got by against two not so great teams, and I was thinking, yeah, they're going to struggle here. And now, you know, the four losses on the bounce.
00:08:08
Japtej
I mean, I think it just proves how deserving Roger was of that poll on door. So, I mean, obviously he wouldn't admit it, but he's probably sat there smiling thinking, now people will respect me.
00:08:19
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, definitely.

Liverpool's Dominance and Villa's Crucial Game

00:08:21
Global Sports Podcast Network
Liverpool 2, Aston Villa nil. Mohamed Salah is inevitable, but I'll tell you what did Aston Villa do wrong?
00:08:27
Japtej
um I feel like they didn't do too much wrong. It's more just Liverpool are so strong. Liverpool didn't really ever look like they were getting out of first or second gear. And I do feel like with Villa now, the fixtures are sort of getting to them. They've had a really poor run of form. They've lost their last four. They've not won ah since six games ago.
00:08:53
Japtej
I don't know if it's you know a continuous thing now or just a bit of a blip, but their their fixtures don't get any easier after the international break. They've got Juventus, Chelsea, you know it doesn't get any easier. So it'll be interesting to see how Emery tries to shift the focus because they've started off so well in the Champions League winning three from four that they've probably qualified for the last for the next round.
00:09:19
Japtej
So I think the smart move would to be would be to halt the full strength team on the Champions League for the next 2-3 match weeks, focus on the Premier League again. I don't know, what do you think?
00:09:32
Global Sports Podcast Network
I think that's definitely what they should do. I just questioned, do they have the squad depth to do it? When we did the prediction on the show at the the start of the season on this podcast, it was more of a case of everyone on the house that had Aston Villa in and around that top four.
00:09:43
Global Sports Podcast Network
And I questioned it thinking, surely they would drop off to sixth or seventh, because that's what happens when teams like Aston Villa, don't get me wrong, they've got superb European heritage as a club. But in recent years, I mean, they only came up from the championship, didn't they?
00:09:56
Global Sports Podcast Network
What, four or five years ago. So you get in around that, you look at
00:09:58
Japtej
Yeah.
00:10:00
Global Sports Podcast Network
in and around the squad depth. ma are dung un their forward line They've got a plethora of options but defensively they seem to struggle at times. Tyro Mings has only just come back from that dreadful ACO injury. I think their squad depth has hurt them but if there's a manager that can get them out of a rut, even if you could call it that right now, it would be Unai Emery.
00:10:19
Japtej
Yeah, 100%. Yeah, I agree. I wouldn't get too concerned as yet. I mean, their very next game is against Crystal Palace at home in the Premier League. That is a must-win game just to steady the ship, you know, stop fans from overreacting. And yeah, they should be okay.
00:10:37
Global Sports Podcast Network
And speaking of fans over at Tim, we're going to be talking about that a little bit more on some other Premier League results. But JupTage, time for results. to Take a breather and talk to me about Zencaster.

into Sunday's games now. Starting off at Old Trafford, I was one of 73,000 people that made the trek up to Old Trafford, and I say trek, I'm only half an hour away, but that's besides the point. We'll talk about the result first before the other news surrounding the Red Devils. In the 3-0 win, obviously Bruno Fanana is on the score sheet, what should have been twice, but he was given his own goal ah in Leicester's, I say favourite, wasn't in their favour, was it? And they got actually off the bench, scored an absolute scream, at which he didn't celebrate.
00:11:34
Global Sports Podcast Network
because of some unjustified criticism from, I say fans, just one fan in particular, we've all seen the video of a certain Manchester United fan online. I'm not going to say his name because he doesn't deserve the time of day, but basically saying that he should work, Garnax should work on his first touch and several other things.
00:11:45
Japtej
Yeah.
00:11:51
Global Sports Podcast Network
And Garnax just turned around and went, why are you not playing? Which is exactly what you should say.
00:11:55
Japtej
man Yeah.
00:11:57
Global Sports Podcast Network
from a magicianite point of view in the stadium I think it was it was it was a poor atmosphere at times in the second half because it was we were basically just cruising at Tuna essentially because Leicester didn't really have much of a threat
00:12:01
Japtej
Yeah.
00:12:11
Global Sports Podcast Network
in the in the towards the the early parts of the second half don't go on they had a little bit more of the ball but they were never they never looked like they were going to do anything with it uh everyone kind of just fell flat in the crowd a little bit and it felt a bit edgy at times just as everyone getting on the back of the players maybe if their first touch wasn't right marcus rashford had a run in the first half where he got the ball on the counter attack and then ran it out of play, unfortunately. And then, uh, Roode Van Nistelrooy in his last game in charge of Manchester United is interim boss. Decided to make a few changes, hook the low and rash rid of on 55, 56 minutes and brought on, uh, the likes of Garnaccio and Johnny Evans as well. And then that kind of changed the game a little bit in a sense that we were more defensively stable because the low didn't have his best of games on that right-hand side. Mazzrari was excellent again on the left. And then Garnaccio just provided that little bit of right spark down the left-hand side. Bruno Fernandez was brilliant. Um, and it's, uh,
00:12:58
Global Sports Podcast Network
It's a confusing time to imagine a shout fan because wherever these performances have been throughout the start of the season, but it was a much needed three points. Rubon Nestor finishes his term as interim manager with three wins, one draw, 10 goals scored and I think it's two or three conceded. So you look at that time as an overall sort of estimate, and you look at that and go, pretty good job. But it was announced this afternoon that he has exited his role at Old Trafford, as Ruben Amrim arrives to come and be the new manager of Manchester United. And he doesn't want Ruben necessarily on his coach staff. It was apparently a really respectful conversation, and Rudin, several other parts of the managerial staff at Manchester United will move on, as Ruben Amrim enters. Joptish, on Manchester United, performance is wise, they've improved, but on the managerial ah spectrum, I guess you could say, it's somewhat promising for the future.
00:13:43
Japtej
Yeah, definitely. I mean, Rude's obviously done a good job. I feel like he's been slightly fortunate with the fixtures that you guys have had. I feel like I think you got rid of Tenharg at the right time, but, you know, you played Leicester twice and Powak in the Europa League.
00:13:52
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:14:02
Japtej
Realistically, you've got the results that you should have got. So, I mean, fair play to rude. I mean, the main thing that I'm thinking is, what are your thoughts on him leaving? Because my thoughts are that it's the correct decision, because he's come out and said that he wants the Manchester United job, you know, at some point in the future or or whatever. And I don't think, Kazamarim, you want someone on your coaching staff who's eyeing up your job. What are your thoughts on that?
00:14:27
Global Sports Podcast Network
I agree with that statement. I think from all of my point of view, don't get me wrong, the fans love Rube van Nistroix. The same way we love Oleguna Solskjaer, the same way we love Michael Carrick, the same way we love every interim manager we have who's an ex-player and every ex-player who's gone into any sort of managerial space, whether it be Ryan Giggs for a spell with Wales, whether it be Wayne Rooney right now at Plymouth or Solskjaer who was it eventually the full-time manager of Manchester United. Rube van Nistroix being the same boat, they'll all want the job.
00:14:56
Japtej
Hmm.
00:14:56
Global Sports Podcast Network
and They'll all be thinking at some point in the future, I want to be the man in that dugout. But Ruben Amum is coming and he's made a statement by saying, I don't want you on my coaching staff. And as respectful as that is, it is the correct decision because for me, Ruben Esteroy is a good coach.
00:15:12
Global Sports Podcast Network
I have questions about his manager ability. With PSV, he probably should have won the league this season that he won the cup with PSV. And then you look at the squad he had at PSV as well. It was beyond any of the squads they've had in recent years.
00:15:24
Global Sports Podcast Network
So he probably should have done a little bit better than winning just winning the cup with them, even as well as the fact that Ajax had a little bit of a down spell at that point in time as well.
00:15:30
Japtej
yeah
00:15:32
Global Sports Podcast Network
You look at his role as a coach, when he came in in the summer, was he always the plan? for him to become the interim coach.
00:15:37
Japtej
what
00:15:38
Global Sports Podcast Network
I think it was. There was no way he didn't turn down the Burnley job just to become United's assistant manager.
00:15:43
Japtej
hoton
00:15:44
Global Sports Podcast Network
He was always in the pipeline for him to become inter interim. Then you look at him taking the job. He turns up first day of the job, big swanky trench coat, big turtleneck on, looks the part, looks a million dollars.
00:15:55
Global Sports Podcast Network
He's not going to be reduced to Manchester United's assistant coach now in a tracksuit, sat on the bench in a seat next to one he thinks he should own, is he?
00:16:00
Japtej
Yeah.
00:16:02
Global Sports Podcast Network
It's just how it is. I think, don't get wrong, I wish him all the best. And he did a brilliant job as an interim coach. um as an interim boss, but overall it's the correct decision.
00:16:11
Japtej
Yeah, I mean, also on on Amrim now coming in, he's obviously started, well, he's came in today. ah His first three games at Ipswich, Bodo, Glimpse and Everton, I mean, it doesn't really get better than that.
00:16:23
Japtej
With the form that you guys are in, you know, great win against Leicester and those three fixtures I just mentioned, do you feel like everything's set up for him to start off in great fashion?
00:16:35
Global Sports Podcast Network
I think it's a strange one. I don't think it looks as good as everyone thinks it does, mainly because we've got the international break wedged in between now, which you would think, right, ideally is going to have time in the players, but what, nine, 10 of 11 of Manchester United start in 11, go on international duty.
00:16:53
Global Sports Podcast Network
So he's not going to have time to work on this 3-4-2-1 formation that he plays.
00:16:53
Japtej
Yeah, yeah
00:16:58
Global Sports Podcast Network
And he has, by the way, he has stated that he's going to stay with the same tactics coming into Manchester United, which is definitely promising. and The big one for me is looking at what he's going to do with Rasmus Wayland.
00:17:10
Global Sports Podcast Network
Rasmus Hohland is the perfect player to play as that number nine in that in in the way that Amarin played at sports. And you look at Guillocares at sports, he's the same mold as Hohland, plays the same attributes, obviously he had the same at Brighton, Coventry, and now obviously at Sporting as well.
00:17:18
Japtej
There.
00:17:25
Global Sports Podcast Network
And then you look at Rasmus Hohland, he's not really had that touch, he's been quite poor in recent but in recent weeks because he's being asked to play the way he shouldn't be asked to play. He's trying to come to the ball, link up playing the half spaces. That's not his game. He needs to, he needs players right really tight around him to then go and spin him behind and stretch defences and that's what his game is. It's what it was in the Serie A before he came and it's what it should be at Manchester United. So he's alongside, I mean you could tell about the whole team, about the performances they're going to play but he's the main one you're probably looking at and going can he regain some form and
00:17:57
Global Sports Podcast Network
The Amrim coming in is really promising. yep Brilliant first three fixtures as well, Ipswich away. It'll be interesting, obviously, coming up against Kieran McKenna as well, who's obviously ex-Manchus United coaching staff, and then Bodo glimpsed in the Europa League.
00:18:05
Japtej
ah
00:18:08
Global Sports Podcast Network
That'll be his first home game, his new Manchester United manager, and then Everton as well in the Premier League. We we know how tough Everton are to play against in the Premier League with the way Sean Dyche sets his team up, so it'll be interesting to see how he combats that as well.
00:18:20
Global Sports Podcast Network
But a promising first three fixtures.
00:18:21
Japtej
another ah Another question I've got on his system, because I think it'll suit you United, and especially with that three at the back, but the one question I have is about one of the wing backs, because I think Mazraoui's brilliant and I think he'll suit that right wing back roll perfectly. In terms of the left wing back, who who A would you go for and who do you think he'll go for? Because Shaw's always injured, the same with Molassia,
00:18:47
Japtej
Do you think you'll put Dallow there? Do you think maybe Garnacho? What do you think will happen with that left wing back spot?
00:18:53
Global Sports Podcast Network
There was a lot of talk before I deep-dived in and around the tactics of Amorim's system about the left-wing back. Could Anthony go there? Could he go on that chair? Will Delogo there? There's a lot of questions around that. And when you say go for it, are you looking at a point of view from me of inside the Manchester United squad right now, or maybe looking into the January transfer window?
00:19:11
Japtej
I'd say right now because obviously he's got to ah deal with what he's got. So in terms of right now, what do you think?
00:19:18
Global Sports Podcast Network
Right now, I think if you look at Luke Shaw, he's probably not going to play that. He's he's probably more suited to that left centre back role in that back three.
00:19:24
Japtej
and
00:19:24
Global Sports Podcast Network
He did that on the early going to Solskjaer and was perfect in it. And I think he's in it for England at times as well. The left wing back role at the start is probably going to be Maserati. I think that's the player he's going to go for mainly because the low is more suited on the right hand side.
00:19:33
Japtej
Okay.
00:19:36
Global Sports Podcast Network
I think his form has struggled when he's not had a set position. He's been switching sides under ten hard. And if he has a set on the right hand side, maybe his form hopefully will improve. Masrawi, technically, he's brilliant on the ball. How have we got him for, what, 10, 12 million euros by a minute?
00:19:48
Japtej
Yeah, crazy.
00:19:50
Global Sports Podcast Network
Because he's brilliant. but Whenever I've watched Masrawi, whether it be in-person, old Trafford or away games, or on the on the TV and the highlights, you'll never look at him going, he's going to lose the ball. You're so confident in his ability to drive forward on the ball, off the ball.
00:20:03
Global Sports Podcast Network
He's been superb in recent weeks. And I think right now in the squad, you'd probably look towards him as that player on the left-hand side with the injuries we've got. But in the January trans window, I'd really be intrigued to see if we go for out of Orifananda's back from Bemfica. Manchester United sold him in the summer to Bemfica. He's been brilliant for them. We have a buyback clause in his contract, really cheap as well for the talent that he is. He's still really young, promising signing if we can get him. But I'm going to start talking about Manchester United and start talking about the GSPN.

We've spoke a lot about Manchester United there in that section, so I think it's time to go away from old traffic and go into Nottingham Forest 1, Newcastle 3, Newcastle picking up a big three points on the road after being one mill down. Perfect result for Newcastle.
00:21:08
Japtej
Yeah, massive win because they've, they've sort of had a ah bit of an iffy time in the last couple of months. I mean, the last three games they've been brilliant, you know, wins against Chelsea, Arsenal and Forest. I mean, those are the three of like the best five or six teams in the league, and the the current standings. So massive turnaround for Eddie Howe and yeah, really big win for Newcastle.
00:21:31
Global Sports Podcast Network
And then we're looking down towards the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium because, do you want to tell us, you'll be one of many happy, well, London club fans, I guess you could say, leaning around, looking at at what happened in the event at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium because Ipswich 2, Tottenham 1, Sabi Shmodik's overhead kick, Liam Dalap had into the party as well. Tottenham got one back through, I think it was Ben Sankur, but just couldn't get it over the line for even a point.
00:21:56
Japtej
Yeah, I mean ah Spurs are a really strange one because there's times this season where I thought they've been brilliant and and have been on brilliant runs of form. And then just when you think that they're finally getting it right, they have a ah really bad loss. You know, first they were in great form, and then they lost ah to Brighton 3-2, then they're on good form again, then they lost to Palace, then great form again, and now they've lost to Galatasaray and Ipswich. I mean, you know, that's Ipswich's first win of the season.
00:22:24
Japtej
And it's at home for Tottenham, so it's really inexcusable. And I think that as long as they've got this inconsistent form, it'll be difficult for them to really go to where Ange wants to take them. That being said, they are still three points behind third place, so they're very much in the hunt. They just need to sort out their consistency.
00:22:45
Global Sports Podcast Network
It's time to raise the question, Jock Tage, Anj Foster Cogley, where's the questions around him at Spurs? Because the media love him because he calls everyone and every journalist under the sun mate. Everyone loves him for his personality. But tactically, I think he's so far inept compared to what people think he is.
00:23:02
Japtej
Yeah, I mean, obviously the High Line got exposed again and against Ipswich, you'd hope that you know they they wouldn't be suffering from that. I mean, he's he's said it many times, hasn't he? I agree with you. I think that at times, the tactics are asking for trouble.
00:23:22
Japtej
But he's happy with the way that, you know, they play. He said after the game, you know, the inconsistency is on me. It's on me to sort this out. I don't think he's going to change, which is the thing. So you just got to hope that you win more than you lose. And come the end of the season, you know, they get in the top four and they might win a trophy, which they could still do. You know, they could win the Europa League and they could finish in the top four. And I'm just going to change. They just got to hope that it works out really.
00:23:48
Global Sports Podcast Network
I think he's so naive. i don't for For me, I think you look at this start playing, it's literally just a case of, right, we're going to score more than you. But the XG doesn't back it up. The XG and the stats, you know, I'm a man of stats jocktage.
00:24:01
Japtej
Yeah.
00:24:01
Global Sports Podcast Network
It doesn't back up Spurs performances in the way that Andrew Prostiklobi wants them to play.
00:24:05
Global Sports Podcast Network
They're not scoring goals, and their defending is atrocious. You look at the talent they have defensively in that back line. It's not fulfilling its potential at all. And I don't think it's fulfilling what anthropococology fully wants them to do. Because I think the players, as much as they're being told to play as highly, are in two minds because it's not working. um And usually the phrase, if it ain't broke, don't fix it. It is broken, Ange. So fix it. And I don't understand what's going on. But before I get Andrew on the tenure of anthropococology, even if I'm not a Spurs fan, Chelsea 1, Arsenal 1, Michael Arteta,
00:24:37
Global Sports Podcast Network
what what i He's a manager i I've come to not understand. And I think a lot of football fans have fallen out with him over over the type of football Arsenal have come to play in recent weeks. I mean, we'll start off with the Kai Habers disallowed goal, shushing the the the fans of your former club.
00:24:52
Global Sports Podcast Network
That is something I love to see.
00:24:54
Japtej
oh
00:24:55
Global Sports Podcast Network
I don't understand why people don't celebrate against clubs they used to play for. don' You should have respect for them. But on the pitch, you're employed to do ah do a job, so do it, and celebrate if you're winning.
00:25:06
Global Sports Podcast Network
ah but fortunately for Chelsea funds they gave them a little bit of a cheer because it was called offside.
00:25:10
Japtej
Yeah, I mean, look, I agree with you on the point that you shouldn't have to do the whole respect thing, but shushing the fans of the club who you scored the Champions League winning goal for, in my eyes, is just crazy. And listen, I think myself, like many Chelsea fans, have come to really dislike how this has ended really badly and it's just got worse.
00:25:32
Japtej
over the years as as he's left us. So I was delighted when that goal got ruled out. Honestly, I wouldn't even have cared if we if we went on to lose that game as long as he didn't score. But on the game itself, I was really happy with the game, not because we played great, but because we managed to come back and equalise. I think in previous years, if we'd gone 1-0 down to a team as good as Arsenal, there's no way we were coming back.
00:25:58
Japtej
But to see us come back and necessarily score that equalizer was really a positive step for me. And look, I think last week against United, if we'd won that game, things would be looking a lot more positive. Things are still quite positive, but you know that was a bit of a dampener. But for this game, I can't really complain too much. I mean, from your perspective as a neutral, that was a tough watch. Even as a fan, I was a bit on the edge of my seat because I was nervous. But that was a boring game to watch, wasn't it?
00:26:27
Global Sports Podcast Network
It was pedestrian-like football, but Arsenal had the real chance to nick it at the end, didn't they? Saliba was literally half a toenail off getting the ball and tapping it in at the back post.
00:26:32
Japtej
Yeah.
00:26:37
Global Sports Podcast Network
But Martin Utagard, the influence he has on that Arsenal squad, I think people underestimate how the influence of just one player in particular on a squad for every team in the Premier League has, and he's definitely the man for Arsenal.
00:26:48
Global Sports Podcast Network
I mean, you looked at the spaces and the style of play that Arsenal play, when he's not in the team compared to when he is, you look at the passing, and just passing triangles, I'd have gone on the right-hand side of midfield. Excuse me, Declan Rice on the left. You look at that and you go, the the that's the solid pass, there should be intricate passing, yeah a little little bit of spice in there, a little bit of nice passing, nice play and ah getting shots off in the final third. And it just wasn't clicking when he wasn't in the squad and all of a sudden you see him come back in. in and he brought life into that Arsenal midfield that we've not seen for a few weeks since he's been injured and and he was absolutely superb but from that point of view we look at to the Premier League table and we look at Arsenal fourth but that's that's not the big question around the league because Liverpool lead the top of the way after 11 games going into the news to national wake five points clear of Manchester City in second who are on 23 and then from third
00:27:42
Global Sports Podcast Network
All the way to, let's have a look at the table here, there is three points between 3rd and 10th, four points between 3rd and 12th, or 3rd and 13th, should I say, with

Liverpool's Lead and Controversy

00:27:53
Global Sports Podcast Network
Manchester United being there.
00:27:53
Japtej
And then,
00:27:55
Global Sports Podcast Network
It's so open, Joptej.
00:27:57
Japtej
Yeah, I mean it's ridiculous really. United are playing Arsenal in about six weeks or so. You know, say you keep up the current form that you're both on and then United beat Arsenal, suddenly United are one point behind Arsenal. So it's just so close, which is is really good for the neutral like you said because It's anyone's game, you know, Nottingham Forest could finish in the top four, Brighton, Aston Villa, Newcastle could finish 12, you know, anything could happen, so it's it's great to watch.
00:28:28
Global Sports Podcast Network
It is great to watch indeed. So just to give you a little bit of a dialogue on the certain positions of certain teams, Liverpool lead the way, Manchester City second, then Chelsea and Arsenal close out the top four, Nottingham Forest still sit fifth, Brighton big three points against Manchester City there sixth, Fulham Newcastle over there, Tottenham round off the top 10, 11th is Brentford, 12th is Bournemouth, joint on points in with 13th place Manchester United, obviously Bournemouth with just about the superior goal difference in that one.
00:28:56
Global Sports Podcast Network
ah no You look at the goal difference to be fair and it is very very similar obviously about both on zero points and to be fair I'm looking at the table now job stage Manchester United on four wins three draws four losses Bournemouth on four wins three draws four losses and then they're both on 15 goals four and then well the 15 goals for 15 goals against for Bournemouth's case and then Manchester 9 had 12 goals for 12 goals against, but they've both got zero goal difference, so you look at that and go, boom, it's just the head on goals scored, essentially.
00:29:28
Japtej
Yeah, I mean that just shows how close it is, does doesn't it? But yeah, fascinating that.
00:29:34
Global Sports Podcast Network
and then and then you look towards the bottom half of the table, West Ham 14th, Leicester 15th, Everton 16th, Aipswich climb out of the relegation zone with that win against Tottenham into 17th, picking up their first win of the season, Crystal Palace Wolves and Southampton prop up the table, but every team in the league has won so far this season. One man who's not winning right now, Jock Tage, David Coutts. There was a video that's been leaked on social media this afternoon of him throwing a little bit of abuse towards those from Liverpool, including Jurgen Klopp in particular, and his sort of antics against the fourth official when he's been there or been refereeing games. And he's temporarily been suspended by PGMO, courtesy of his actions, and then that's going to be investigated by PGMO as well. But the big thing for me is you look at some of the decisions that he's been given against Liverpool, Manchester City with the handball against Rodry, the Odegaard handball and Field,
00:30:27
Global Sports Podcast Network
Then you look at the weekend as well, the Leon Bailey chants against ah Liverpool as well for Aston Villa. What's going on there?
00:30:34
Japtej
yeah i mean it's difficult to justify if it was just a solitary video it would still be out of order but you might you know look okay fair enough it's not affected him but i mean that game against between liverpool and villa he was awful in my opinion i think he had a really bad game and you know you just think oh it's classic referees they're inconsistent then this comes out then you you know there's there's been uh like a rumor sort of for years about his facebook page ah back in the day and his banner was a picture of Old Trafford and after every bad game that he has people recycle that and you don't know whether it's fake you don't know whether he's buried those feelings but I mean on the evidence he's a Manchester United fan and who's saying that he hates Jurgen Klopp and is calling him an outrageous word so listen I think he's got to lose his job I think maybe he should get relegated to the championship I don't know you know what he should do
00:31:32
Japtej
But for me he cannot manage in the premier league at least any of the big clubs and i think the wider issue as well. Is every weekend after a big game or even a smaller game in the premier league if there's. Bad decisions people are slate in the referee saying is he biased towards this club does he hate this club.
00:31:51
Japtej
and you know you sort of think oh you know it's just inconsistency this video proves the referees have biases and that they hold on to those biases so I think looking ahead to the future the next big game you know say that United Arsenal game in six weeks if there's a terrible decision People will be coming on saying, oh, Michael Oliver, Anthony Taylor, you know, they hate Chelsea, they hate Arsenal, they hate blah, blah. And this will just fuel that fire. So I think Howard Webb has got to get ahead of this and and make a point to to sack him. What do you think?
00:32:24
Global Sports Podcast Network
On that note, on certain managers supporting certain teams, I want to just ah clear up something on one Premier League manager ticket. That's Anthony Taylor. There's a lot of rumours that he's a Manchester United fan. He is not. He is an out and out, through and through, Altringham Football Club fan.
00:32:39
Global Sports Podcast Network
As someone who works with Altringham Football Club on their media team, I've seen Anthony Taylor at Altringham, week in, week out, watching the game, supporting fully with emotions with the club.
00:32:45
Japtej
Really?
00:32:48
Global Sports Podcast Network
So I just want to put it out there that Obviously there could be a little bit of underlying bias here and there but I've seen that man, he sits in the same seat at every game and he's a man that I've seen many times I've said hello to and whatnot and friendly face, friendly man and he's a man that doesn't deserve some of the scrutiny that he gets sometimes and I think he's one of the standout referees who's quite superior to all the others just for the quality that he has but on that in particular Howard Webb as well.
00:33:06
Japtej
Yeah.
00:33:15
Global Sports Podcast Network
This needs to be investigated properly. PGML should not put out another word on this until the investigation is complete. That, first of all, then on the punishment, that depends on the investigation. But off the evidence that we've got so far, off the leaked video, I think a relegation to the championship is probably the best option.
00:33:31
Global Sports Podcast Network
Whether he stays there or not, I think that probably is the best option as well. You look at the thing, he's never going to be able to referee a game that has any influence on a Liverpool title rating, European watch, ever.
00:33:40
Japtej
Never. Never.
00:33:43
Global Sports Podcast Network
It won't happen again.
00:33:45
Japtej
I also don't i don't think it's just Liverpool. I think it's any big game. You know, say five years down the line, say Chelsea and Man United are going for the title going for the title and we play each other and and he's refereeing and there's a terrible decision.
00:33:59
Japtej
People will be saying, well, we know that video from five years ago. People remember these sorts of things.
00:34:03
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:34:04
Japtej
I mean, um the another question really is how has he allowed himself to be filmed in a state like that? He looks, you know, he's not sober. ah I mean he's got to take more responsibility and he's got to suffer the consequences of his actions I think so look it's a shame I feel a bit bad for him it's sad to have your career ruined from one video but at the end of the day he's a grown man and and he's you know it's not like he's been forced to say this it's his own doing so you know he's gonna have to suffer the consequences.
00:34:37
Global Sports Podcast Network
suffer the consequences indeed. So with the David Koot controversy on ongoing into the international break, 11 games played in the Premier League and three points separate third to 13th.
00:34:48
Global Sports Podcast Network
A big, big game week are coming up in game week 12. Teams facing ah each other all up another country with big games to be played. Joptej, that's all from us.
00:34:58
Japtej
Yeah, goodbye for me.
00:34:59
Global Sports Podcast Network
Goodbye from me.
