Introduction to Jared & PreacherDad.com
00:00:13
Speaker
Well, hello everybody.
00:00:14
Speaker
Welcome to the Preacher Dad Podcast.
00:00:16
Speaker
My name is Jared and I am the Preacher Dad.
00:00:20
Speaker
And I blog over at PreacherDad.com where you can find information on everything from parenting to politics.
00:00:28
Speaker
I am the father of eight and the husband to one, but I am an expert of none.
00:00:36
Speaker
I'm not an expert on anything, but I know someone who is.
00:00:40
Speaker
And so it's my desire to
00:00:43
Speaker
Just encourage you a little bit, share a little bit with you about what the Lord Jesus says about everything from parenting to politics and everything in between.
00:00:52
Speaker
And so I just want to encourage you as I'm on the way home tonight.

Reflecting on the Meaning of Christmas
00:01:35
Speaker
You know, this is Christmas time.
00:01:38
Speaker
And one thing that I frequently remember at Christmas is why we celebrate Christmas.
00:01:48
Speaker
And I remember it so much, I even preached about it on Sunday.
00:01:52
Speaker
But I thought maybe somebody out there might want to be reminded.
00:01:58
Speaker
It makes it easier to get into the Christmas spirit if you remember the reason that we do things.
00:02:05
Speaker
For instance, all those lights that you get annoyed with putting around the tree and hanging up on the buildings and all of the work involved with that.
00:02:14
Speaker
Why do we do lights at Christmas?
00:02:16
Speaker
Well, it's because the light of the world, the Lord Jesus Christ, came into the world.
00:02:22
Speaker
And the people that sat in darkness have seen a great light.
00:02:27
Speaker
That's in the scriptures.
00:02:28
Speaker
In fact, Zechariah, the father of John the Baptist, declared, repeated that prophecy from Isaiah.
00:02:37
Speaker
And was exalting to know that... That...
00:02:46
Speaker
the Savior had come.
00:02:48
Speaker
And that's part of the reason we have lights.
00:02:49
Speaker
Why do we give presents to each other?
00:02:51
Speaker
Well, we give presents to each other because the greatest present in the history of mankind was Jesus Christ.
00:02:59
Speaker
He was a gift to mankind.
00:03:01
Speaker
He brought gifts with him, such as peace and hope and joy.
00:03:08
Speaker
He brought those things with Him and so we give gifts to one another in remembrance of Him.
00:03:12
Speaker
It's easy to let the materialism of Christmas and the desire for things overwhelm us when we're thinking about buying presents for everybody on our list, but
00:03:24
Speaker
Just remember the reason we exchanged those gifts is because we were given a great gift by God in heaven when he sent his son to die upon the cross.
00:03:35
Speaker
And ultimately that's the real reason for Christmas is Jesus.
Jesus' Purpose and the Significance of Family
00:03:40
Speaker
It is not just the fact that Jesus was born as a human being.
00:03:47
Speaker
but that he came in order to deliver us from sin.
00:03:51
Speaker
You see, if we leave sin out, if we leave the cross and the grave, the empty tomb, if we leave those things out of Christmas, we're sort of missing a big part of the reason he came.
00:04:02
Speaker
He didn't just come to make things nice and to spread love and peace and happiness all over.
00:04:08
Speaker
I mean, those things feel really good.
00:04:10
Speaker
And that's why people love Christmas, because it feels so good.
00:04:13
Speaker
But the fact of the matter is that Jesus came to die.
00:04:17
Speaker
That little baby in that manger was born so that he could die in our place for our sins, to bring redemption to you and me for our sins.
00:04:29
Speaker
And so that's important that we remember those things at Christmas time.
00:04:33
Speaker
We remember the reason that...
00:04:37
Speaker
that Jesus' birth was a time for such great rejoicing, and why the angels said, Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, goodwill toward men.
00:04:48
Speaker
The reason that they said, Behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all men, not just the Jewish people, but to all men, the reason that was glad tidings of great joy.
00:05:03
Speaker
was because Jesus came to deliver us from our sins, to die in our place, to suffer and die in our place.
00:05:12
Speaker
And because of that, we have hope.
00:05:15
Speaker
Because of His sacrifice upon the cross, we have joy.
00:05:18
Speaker
Because we have been given the opportunity to enter into a relationship with the Father in heaven through Jesus Christ.
00:05:27
Speaker
Why do you think family time is so important at the holidays, so important at Christmas time?
00:05:33
Speaker
Why do we care so much about families?
00:05:35
Speaker
Well, it's because we have been brought into the family of God.
00:05:41
Speaker
We have, uh, we have been, oh, my, my girls are, are playing dress up and, uh, I got to see them.
00:05:51
Speaker
You get my, my trip home here.
00:06:00
Speaker
So those are some of the reasons of Christmas.
00:06:03
Speaker
And, you know, that's that's very important that we remember those things that.
00:06:12
Speaker
Well, I was saying that that we celebrate families because we've been brought into the family of God through Jesus Christ.
00:06:20
Speaker
And, you know, that's because he loved us.
00:06:22
Speaker
Why do we celebrate Christmas?
Concluding Thoughts and Blog Invitation
00:06:24
Speaker
Because God the Father loved us enough to send his son to die upon the tree and be raised again the third day to bring us hope.
00:06:36
Speaker
So I just wanted to share that with you.
00:06:38
Speaker
I hope that encourages you.
00:06:40
Speaker
It's now time for me to go be a dad to my eight children and a husband to my wife and show them all the love that God has shown to me.
00:06:48
Speaker
So this short episode is...
00:06:51
Speaker
is over, and I hope to see you again next time.
00:06:54
Speaker
Thanks again so much, everybody.
00:06:55
