Christmas Party and Bourbon Celebration

00:00:54
Speaker
We'll go to regale. It's the my God, a podcast Christmas party. Yes. episode The Christmas special. kindnaganza And I think we're expecting one more. But thus far, ah so far we have with us tonight.
00:01:13
Speaker
Oh, my God. My God. I'm going to put glasses on.
00:01:20
Speaker
Love it. Not just, you know, not just the over unders and a whole episode with coach, coach, glad to have you back, buddy. Always, always a pleasure. Thanks for having me guys. I, you know, in, in true, in true, uh, Christmas episode, whatever we call it fashion, it's like, Hey coach, uh, if we had an episode tomorrow, can you join? and I'm always just usually just sit on my couch. I'm like, Oh, yeah, it sounds good. I'm free. Like that works. That works. Uh, for you guys, for sure.
00:01:50
Speaker
Uh, love it. Um, I actually, I don't know if anyone has bourbon or not, but I have, I do. I have a question on if I should open this or not. All right. So to pull it pull you up on the big screen. So this, I got this, I bought this last year, like before the SEC championship last year. Cause I think like a bunch of people had these like sell like, Oh, I'm going to open a bottle. You know, if we went blah, blah, blah, whatever.
00:02:16
Speaker
So I saw this bottle and I thought it was an omen and I bought it so but then I ended up I didn't even I didn't open it But now that we won the SEC Championship I'm thinking should I open this so it's like in it's like a dog and Like it says top dog ah It's the year of the dog top dog DAWG Absolutely, so I feel like I should have I felt I felt like this would this could go for the for the Christmas episodes It's Christmas celebrating another SEC championship. Absolutely. Okay. Okay. Since I got the approval. I would say you're you're well within your rights. Now I'm sitting here having to like take the plastic wrap up. Is it going to give us a nice cork pop though? No, it's a screw top. It's one of those. Where is it? This is great. This is great. podcast good Okay. Podcast with a ASMR or whatever. Okay. Yeah. so
00:03:09
Speaker
best sounding bourbon. We're going to see how you ah yeah it You pour it like yeah out of the dogs, the top of the dogs head. Out of the top of his head? Yeah. like Not his mouth? Not even his mouth? It's so weird. It's not awkward at all. no not awkward Yeah. If it poured out of the mouth of that would be amazing. like All right. Listening at home. This is a screw top of a mold of a bulldog. It kind of resembles bully from Mississippi State and the spout is on the top of its head. He does. He does. It's really in the words of Munson paint the picture. That was fantastic. Just to paint the picture. and I've got I've got my high West Thor pick from hop screen by over here.
00:03:53
Speaker
This is my poor man's whiskey version. Well, I guess the midwinter's dram is is still whiskey. It's rye whiskey, but um it's the it's the blend of petite. It's a blend of straight whiskeys that's finished in petite charade barrels.
00:04:09
Speaker
and as a It very much tastes like Christmas in a bottle, which is what but John always says that he always says that that's what midwinter's dram tastes like, which I think that when Hunter joins, I don't know if he's going to open it. He's got one of those.

Sports Talk: Georgia Basketball and Football

00:04:24
Speaker
That was that was my inspiration when he said that he bought that.
00:04:27
Speaker
Yeah, I saw that. I saw that. And then I was like, I i might need to bust out yeah the top dog. Then I had to go find it. I was like, wait, where did I leave that? You know, you might be an alcoholic wind.
00:04:42
Speaker
This is where they put that bottle of booze. This is why I like stopped buying bourbon. I was like, I feel like I have enough. I had put it, I had, cause it was like, it came in a box and I'd left it in the box, but I found it. It just wasn't where I thought I had put it. Uh, it was in the second place I checked. So thats cheers boys. I'm just drinking the Miller light and like Bobby Wilson have some red one or some Pinot Noir red wine. But unlike Bobby Wilson, and more like coach Trill, it's what Kroger had not came as so.
00:05:11
Speaker
to two book chuck No, uh, no, yeah. Something close to that. No public receipts. Uh, like Bobby, no publics. Speaking of publics, by the way, if you have a post near you PSA, the rib roasts are on sale for six 99 pound. Hmm. Nice. Nice. I was about to say, it's funny. You say that because I was looking at a deal. Kroger was doing a deal on it too. So a little bit of competition in the market these days. Hmm.
00:05:40
Speaker
they're they're They're angling for the Christmas smokers. Uh, I did, I want to talk about, I had a, uh, should we be recording moment about 10 minutes ago? Uh, I think I kind of want to start off with the hoop dogs. Uh, let's start, let's start it out. Fletcher will be very proud. Yeah. Yeah. So yeah, the basketball minute is growing like super Mario eating a mushroom is what I basically tweeted with a gift. Uh, holy cow. This team is, I mean, my, my thing I just want to say about it is like how fun it is watching this Georgia basketball team. Like they are a blast to watch.
00:06:12
Speaker
as a, as a non-typical basketball follower, um, I guess, uh, Disney, a Disney hoop dog or whatever. nice Yeah. hooked dog bandwagon ah Yeah. Um, ah yeah, that was, that was the first, like from the first game that I saw, which I think was like the first or second game.
00:06:33
Speaker
Cause I think that you guys had reminded me that that they were playing and I was like, Oh shoot, I need to check this out. See how they're, see how they're doing. And from the moment I just, I took, from the moment I started watching, I was like, man, this is, this is fun. And then every, every time since then it's, it's just fun watching them. It's like, I made the comparison of what it was like watching the Chicago Bulls in the nineties. Like that's, that's kind of how I feel watching these guys, you know, not that it's like all-star caliber, but it's just, it's just fun basketball.
00:07:01
Speaker
Yeah, agreed, agreed. It seems like last year, you know, they got off to a good start in the non-conference and then got in the SEC and it was was a little bit of a letdown to a certain, yeah however, state progress this year just seems different. And the talent across the court is a lot better. They seem more congealed as a team. And in Mike White's second year, you know, they really seem to be starting to gel under him.
00:07:24
Speaker
and starting to gel as a whole unit and even guys coming off the bench are scoring and that's what was a lot of different last year. Last year it seemed like the starting five were like the only guys that could do it and then ah I would get subbed in and you're like oh here we go like it's like you know Arkansas is going to make a run or somebody's going to you know, score a couple on us. However, this time around, we've done so well in the non-conference. It just seems like a completely different team than last year to be like, okay, yes, it's similar to last year. However, it's not last year's team where I feel like this team is more prepared for the conference when we get into it later in the year. Yeah, yeah, for sure. ah Also, welcome to the show. On to Jones.
00:08:03
Speaker
under How's that baby? good he we're We're finally getting back to a better sleep pattern. So I'm trying not to mess it up. Nice. Sorry to interrupt your evening.
00:08:19
Speaker
oh Yeah, good you good you know, I got to get on the pod. Good. Hey, we we got your we got your Christmas card today It was it was like one of my favorite Christmas cards. So amazing. Thank you The baby's the baby's first Christmas card is is elite. Yeah, and he started this thing where he like sticks his tongue out all the time. Yeah he He's gonna be an issue. I think are we gonna are we gonna give him the nickname Jordan? I I mean, I hope he's half as good as JMJ. If it's, if it's with the, with the Georgia basketball talk right there, I don't know. I don't know if true man's going to play for Georgia or Ole Miss and we'll see time will only tell. I told everybody that has ever brought it up that I only have one rule for true man. When it comes to what college he wants to go to no orange.
00:09:10
Speaker
that's all rule live but Yes. I was, I was not expecting that. I was expecting the maroon to be the statement there. Yeah. Well, that one too.
00:09:21
Speaker
ah Sweet. Got an AP Jones question for you, Hunter. Are you guys out or are you guys still in school? So today was our 60% day. So, okay. Gotcha. We are out. We're officially out till the second. Not bad. Yeah. got One more day, just tomorrow. And that's it. But it's a half day across the county. So same, same in the Cobb County. Second has to go half day tomorrow. They had a whole day today. We're ahead for some reason in my district.
00:09:49
Speaker
That's how we are here. It's a half day tomorrow, but it's finals. Lily finished the day, so Lily doesn't go. So she's done, but Kim has. Kim's there. I was actually supposed to work tomorrow. Tomorrow's not a holiday for administrators on the approved calendar, but we talked our superintendent into having a virtual work day. So as long as my phone is on and I'm available, I'm virtually working.
00:10:17
Speaker
I saw, I saw the meme today that was like, that sounds like a 2025 problem. yes That was my mood today. like It's been, it's been a tough week because, um, my principal and, you know, number one, middle schoolers are crazy.
00:10:38
Speaker
Number two, middle schooler can confirm it's even more crazy when it's carter a holiday break. Um, but my principal son is graduating. Uh, he's going into the army and it's like his second round of graduation or something in Oklahoma. So he was in Oklahoma all week. So but the Jones was not AP this week. He was principal this week. And of all weeks, it had to be the one of the holiday week where all the exams are happening.
00:11:08
Speaker
It was a, it was an interesting week for sure. Nice. Nice. Get on the morning announcements, tell them if they breathe the wrong way, they get ISS and just see what happens.
00:11:18
Speaker
I'm kidding. This is, this is leadership advice from somebody who's been a teacher for almost 15 years. So here we are. Nice. Uh, let's, let's round out the Georgia basketball quickly and we can get to the, uh, get to some Christmas, uh, time commentary. Holiday party.
00:11:38
Speaker
Yeah, I was going to say, like, I know ah John Tweets had been texting us about the Shane Montgomery, like in him being being eligible now, and hick he looked great tonight. So he had dogs like more than doubled up. Buffalo was one hundred to forty nine final score. So just absolutely blah. I love watching Santo, like the guy like a protecting the rim and then ducking. So I don't know. Like I'm not saying he's the unofficial official forward of my got a podcast, but you know, could be discussed.
00:12:07
Speaker
We can, we can absolutely discuss that yeah good with basketballs. It's like, there's only so many guys, whereas with football, it's like nearly a hundred. so Right. Right. Right. On that note, did you guys see the mayonnaise commercial, like Instagram real that Dylan Bell has? No.
00:12:26
Speaker
it's It's like everything you would think based on what I just said. like i've i've always been like I've always wanted like more awkward commercials for NIL deals, and this is and this is like very much that. It's like Dylan Bell eating like a buffalo chicken dip. The base is Hellman's mayonnaise, and it's a Hellman's part or whatever like influencer post. It's fantastic because it's like it gets like slow motion and like it doesn't make sense. it's and He's like' about to start laughing. The whole thing is incredible.
00:12:55
Speaker
the duke yeah The duke, the duke's mayo ball would like a word. I know I did. I knew that I knew it sparked controversy, uh, to see that he's a Hellman's guy. Uh, you know, at least, at least with the NIL money coming in. So yeah, we used to be cooler of a mayonnaise on top of Kirby

Culinary Discussions and Traditions

00:13:11
Speaker
and at some point, like just got, they got at least do that to compete with dukes. Love it. What were you going to say, Hunter? I was going to say, I must spark up a controversy with the mayonnaise talk.
00:13:23
Speaker
mayonnaise, mayonnaise talk. I'm neither. Blue plate all the way, baby. Blue plate. Interesting. That is interesting. I feel i feel like i'm not ah I'm not a big mayonnaise guy either way, but I feel like the Dukes is the is the popular one here. Got you. I'm going to make a sandwich for you one of these days when I put mayonnaise and pickles on it and you're going to like it. and i And I will probably dry heave in my mouth.
00:13:50
Speaker
Uh, don't ever let me make your sandwich. I get the tailgate, uh, cause I'm going to pass it over and you'd be like, what did you do? You can probably get it past me if you put like, if it was like Chipotle mayonnaise or something like that. Okay. Okay. Challenge accepted. Jim's like taking notes. What to do in 2025.
00:14:11
Speaker
All right. Well, hopefully that was sufficient basketball talk, uh, for Fletcher. The, I think the Georgia basketball minute continues to grow. Um, and we'll, uh, continue to follow as we get into conference play. It's going to be a bit tougher in the SEC. Um, but Hey, as of right now, bracketology, Georgia is an eight seed, which is like wild. So best start since, uh, John and I were undergrads at Georgia in the Herrick days. So heck of a start. nice for the They'll start the conference against ironically at Ole Miss on January 4th. So.
00:14:40
Speaker
Watch out on her. yeah be a good It'll be a good game to see what they've both got because Ole Miss is pretty good too this year under Coach Beard. He's kind of got some guys in there that are his guys now and they're expected to be pretty good too.
00:14:55
Speaker
Nice. Yeah. I'm excited, man. I'm excited. Uh, should be fun basketball season. It'll be fun. All right, JP, bring us into the holiday spirit. All right. We got, we got the holidays. So in the vein of brother, brother Smith, uh, and the, the brothers know best AKA between three stashes. Um, I'm gonna, I'm gonna hit us up with a couple of options here.
00:15:17
Speaker
Um, I'll let you guys pick. Do we want to do, do we want to do a blind draft or do we want to do like just Christmas, like a Christmas theme up without giving too much away? and Christmas music blind, Christmas music blind draft or Christmas theme? So if we do a blind draft, do we all, or do we all pick?
00:15:35
Speaker
Yeah, you guys can pick it'll be, you know, I'm not, I'm not keeping score or anything, but but we have to, we have to actually pick the right at number or else cargo will get mad at us. Uh, like when I mess it up with a relative, I do have five, it's a top five. So this is also, that is also in tribute to, uh, another one of our favorites, the mullets on the mics.
00:15:55
Speaker
Yeah. Yeah. I'm up for whatever. Let's just do the top five. Let's just do the blind draft. All right. We're going to do blind draft Christmas song. Uh, I'm going to, I'm going to give you, so just, just, if you're not aware, I'm going to give you a name of a song and you're going to rank it on a scale of one to five last Christmas by wham. Hmm. Ooh, five but hundred is got them at five. No love. No love for me. I kind of like it. I kind of like that song.
00:16:19
Speaker
Where are you at? Where are you at coach? Oh, I'm going to shoot it in the middle three. That's where three I had already committed to three. I'm going to three as well. It would know knowing the answers. Uh, if you, to if you had to ask me, but I would say five. Um, okay. Let's see here. Silent night by Bing Crosby. Bing is the guy when it comes to Christmas songs. Bing is the goat. Bing is the goat. Gotta be for me.
00:16:48
Speaker
i' go to go safely with three because i feel like there's there's a couple options with with being so if any of those other ones are in here then i got to reserve some room in the top two and the thirty I'm worried if it was Christmas too high yeah like I'm going to have to put it at two. I'm going to have to put it at two. All right. I can't just match coach trill. So I'm going to do the unthinkable and go number four and put them on four. We're going to see where this happens. Otherwise I'm going to be exactly the same as coach trill. The Bing Crosby disrespect is palpable right now. I know. I can't believe I just put wham above Bing Crosby.
00:17:31
Speaker
side Side note, I had taken it aside when when the ah when the Brothers Know Best, um when they did their Christmas music, I want to say like dissertation,
00:17:45
Speaker
yeah um the unknown unknown Christmas songs that I don't, you don't really hear too much about Bing Crosby's other stuff that's like not popular. um He sings a song called Christmas in Killarney.
00:17:59
Speaker
which is a staple in the Powell household when I was a kid. Like I used to hear that song all the time. My family's Irish and it's got a very big Irish tinge to it. So if you are Irish, I recommend listening to that one. Okay. Moving on. Jingle Bell Rock. Bobby Helms.
00:18:17
Speaker
or Yeah, i'm right there with a hundred that's a solid four for me and that was gonna be my number no matter what so My assistant principal agreeing. Yeah, here we go four. All right. All right. I've got I've got a couple of curve balls here Oh, hold on. I didn't go yet and i'm painting myself into a corner. Sorry like because ah I can't pull that at two Can I oh my gosh, I feel like there's gonna be better stuff or is there not?
00:18:39
Speaker
Are you going to throw a bad one? Don't tell me. I personally don't think they're bad, but I thought this was a fair list. No, this is fine. and I just, I just went too high with last Christmas. Uh, I'm going to go, I'm going to go five with Jingle Bell Rock. I feel like there's going to be stuff. Feliz Navidad, Jose, Jose.
00:19:02
Speaker
Now I've backed myself into a corner. I'm not like Feliz Navidamit now. I've got one or two left and it can't be, it can't be one. So it's going to be two. Yeah, I'm going to as well. And I'll go five. it's but Okay. Last one. All I want for Christmas is you Mariah Carey. Yes. yes Number one one. Dude, it's not Christmas time until you hear that song. come I know, right? did So many, so many great like, like TikTok or like whatever, like reels with like people like,
00:19:34
Speaker
<unk>s like It's like, it's November and people start like, they start to hear it. You can hear Mariah start singing, so you know it's coming. It has to be said that the pr the PR company behind Mariah Carey's like Christmas, I don't know, whatever she is. um I don't want to say like, she's she's like the the spokesperson for Christmas, but and twenty the spokesperson for Christmas in 2024, but that that that intro ah intro piano tune is just It definitely seems like it's it's it's the signal. It's like the bat signal for Christmas. It's like once it hits midnight at November 1st right after Halloween. it did know
00:20:13
Speaker
Like my students wanted to ask if they could play it in class literally on like November 1st or 2nd. And I was like, absolutely not. Don't ask it again. And then like November 3rd, I was like, okay, maybe it is time. That's funny. That's funny. I had to bring our rec. I had to steal Ella has has a record player. Um, that's the only one in the house and had to steal it from her and bring it downstairs after again, you know, as we've said, this is now a brother's no best Stan podcast. Um, after John was like playing all his vinyl records. Uh, on their Christmas episode, I had to bring her, had to bring our record player down. So we, uh, threw some vinyl on the other day. It was nice. I was in target the other day and my daughter, big Taylor Swift fans in this house, right? She saw, she saw on the shelf, the Taylor Swift thing that she said, look dad, look at this calendar. I said, sweetheart, that's not a calendar. That's a record. What's a record? What's a record?
00:21:08
Speaker
that's nice good Nice. Nice. I said, you'll, you'll understand at some point, not right now. John's like, let's go to the electronics section for a history lesson. Here we go. Yeah, seriously. We don't have a record. We don't have a record player in this house, but was that a, cant was that a Camden question?
00:21:23
Speaker
that was a gaming question yes the seven-year-old okay uh okay so let's let's let's moving moving along to just the overall general christmas theme question that i'll give you guys so this this kind of ties to one of the things that we talked about that i kind of wanted to touch on like you know traditions and things like that which this will definitely tie in on So, we're going to do a little game called Christmas Past, Present, and Future. So, I want you to tell me about your favorite memory or tradition from the past, present, and future. And the future will be interesting to hear what Hunter has to say because he's got a newborn.
00:22:01
Speaker
so What is your favorite memory of Christmas past, present and future? Jim, I'll let you go with let's just run through everybody's past and then we'll just let everybody run through the present and then everybody run through the future. OK, so I'm going to go with something that it's like ah that we just the things that ah are magical that your kids then grow out of. So my favorite from the past was doing the reindeer food.
00:22:28
Speaker
Uh, so we used to have like the kids would bring home like reindeer food from school. And so on Christmas Eve, every year we would go have after. So we always do like, we don't really do Christmas Eve, like presents other than like the kids would like always get like PJs. Right. And so like they get in their PJs. We get ready for bed. We get out, like set out milk and cookies for Santa. Then we go put the reindeer food out in the front yard, uh, for the reindeer. So that, that was my favorite, uh, of Christmas past. The reindeer food. Okay.
00:22:56
Speaker
Coach? Yeah, I would say for me, it goes back to my childhood where we grew up going up to Greensboro, North Carolina every year to see my mom's parents. My dad's parents also lived in the same town, but we always stayed with my mom's parents. And so my grandmother, my mom's mom, I was really close to. She's the reason I'm a big Patriots Red Sox, Bruins, Celtics fan.
00:23:19
Speaker
Anyway, she got me into sports like loving sports. My dad was the Georgia fan. However, with all the pro teams I've always liked, she got me into it. And so growing up in the 90s, Jordan was huge. My grandmother lived in North Carolina when Jordan played at UNC. So she you know knew all the stories from when he was at Carolina.
00:23:39
Speaker
follow him when he went to the Bulls. So one Christmas, she got me three jerseys. And this is like a retro flashback. So it's, it was a red Michael Jordan Bulls jersey, a teal green, Grant Hill jersey from the Pistons. And it's weird because she liked Carolina, but he was a dookie. So it's kind of odd. And then a grand, then just a football jersey randomly, a green Brett Favre jersey.
00:24:07
Speaker
So my my favorite memories were always Christmases in Greensboro, but with Some Christmas Past, it is the Christmases with Grandma Lucy and my Grandpa Dave and my brother, my mom and my dad and my sister up there in North Carolina. So it's just the whole family together and just doing all the family traditions together and just being with them. That's what I remember most about Christmas and then wanting my kids to have kind of the same experience with now my parents so their grandparents but Christmas past definitely Greensboro, North Carolina 9th circa 1996, 1997. Nice. Hunter, what she got? So um I would say that
00:24:51
Speaker
I'm a pretty nostalgic guy. I'm like, no, you know, not me. You're going to hit us with occasion Christmas, aren't you? I mean, it's a little bit, I guess. Um, I always, you know, thinking about Christmas past memories, um, we kind of had a, like a more non-traditional than you would think of Christmas Eve. We'd always do the traditional Christmas meal where like the whole family would come over to my grandma's house on Christmas.
00:25:20
Speaker
Um, for lunch, but like Christmas Eve was always like, and especially like as a kid, because you're like getting hyped because, um, you know, you get all the the feelings of, you know, tomorrow's Christmas is Christmas Eve. And we always have like this, the same checklist of things that we had to do. And I grew to appreciate a more, the older I got, like when I was in high school and especially like.
00:25:45
Speaker
when I went off to Ole Miss and then came home for Christmas, I really appreciated them more. But and Christmas Eve, we would, and you know, we would have at my cousin's house, we would have our gift exchange with our cousins and kind of have like a small meal. And then everybody would go home and kind of like, you know, get ready for the night. And then on Christmas Eve night, we would go to church service.
00:26:12
Speaker
And then, um, you know, as a kid, like we would be in the nativity play and I always looked forward to that. Like every year, like you get to move up because you're older and eventually you get to, you get to be like,
00:26:24
Speaker
Joseph they're like, you know an actual person and not just like one of the little kids like the little kids are dressed up like sheep and stuff like The lobster, it's not as fun. Yeah, and so the lobster Someone was a tree John's a real like the lobster the shrimp. Sorry I totally interrupted love love love love love actually and Love actually the little easter egg there anyway but Uh, excuse me, but so then after church service, we'd all go over to my aunt and uncle's house. Um, and the whole family would be there like watching the, uh, like that bowl game that used to be on like Christmas evening, the Hawaii bowl. Like I can vividly remember, um, like the Hawaii bowl being on and they couldn't gumbo and we'd have like gumbo and you know, the adults would have like,
00:27:13
Speaker
the adult drinks. And then when I got to college, I was like, Oh, like maker's Mark, what is that? can we get some
00:27:22
Speaker
The foreshadowing. Right. Also, I love how you casually drop the Cajun Christmas on us. Yeah. I love it. I love it. I like it, Hunter, you say you went to Ole Miss and you were like, you went back for Christmas as a freshman and we're like, oh, that's what Maker's Mark is. Every time I've been to Ole Miss, I've always seen old granddad bottles in the bathroom. So it's now funny. We were cheap when I was at Ole Miss, but like i don't know I didn't really start my like my real like bourbon drinking until I met Megan. And I didn't meet Megan until junior year. so Gotcha.
00:27:59
Speaker
freshman and sophomore year, yeah we're we're talking like Evan Williams green label, the the handles that we'd buy cases of them for the fraternity house for parties. And like, we just had this one. um It was the most disgusting thing ever. It was an old handle of Williams. And we got it down to like this much left. And we kept it on the top of our refrigerator.
00:28:26
Speaker
And then every time we would get, it was like, it's like a terrible infinity bottle. Every time we would get a different kind of like whiskey or bourbon, like crown or whatever it might be. And we'd be about to finish it. We'd pour it into that handle and keep it up on top. And then at the end of the year, we all like took shots of it. It was like the most awful thing ever. That at least it like cleaned you out. yes yeah One benefit of it. Amazing.
00:28:53
Speaker
John, do we get yours? do we get yeah and Yeah, absolutely. okay i'm starting to make sure so and make sure So my favorite ah past item is going to be Christmas morning as a kid when Christmas was magical. And I feel like that the magic of Christmas is kind of waned as the advent of Amazon and online shopping is is kind of come because, you know, I don't know. I was always surprised and I know that my kids like to be surprised, but at the same time, like they also don't like to be like,
00:29:24
Speaker
disappointed that they didn't get exactly what they wanted. And so in the in the day and age of you know being able to order on Amazon, I feel like it takes it away because they can see their Christmas presents coming. It's annoying. um And then they see the notifications that whatever is delivered on the phone.
00:29:39
Speaker
um So for me, like Christmas, when I think about Christmas morning, the the time life, Treasury of Christmas is a record ah that my parents would always play every Christmas morning and it would start and it would have like You know, we would just roll straight through that record and then flip it over and we'd open presence and do the whole thing. And so for me, like, that was like one of my favorite memories, you know, just going down and watch my sister and like, we're just, bar like oh, you got that. Oh, you got that. Oh, you got that. You know what I mean? Like the whole.
00:30:16
Speaker
the whole thing Christmas morning. So like that for me is is is a big one on on the Christmas past situation. And then just, you know, dad, dad has got it, got the like the camcorder, you know, he's like, Hey, mom.
00:30:31
Speaker
okay Yeah and and you know your mom's just sitting there and her and her like back then and like in and in the 90s or whatever they had the the robe like the house coat or whatever which is not a thing anymore but yeah it was it was that that's that's christmas past for me. Nice nice.
00:30:50
Speaker
All right. What's your, what's your present, Mr. Jim? Um, president, I would say, so, you know, like our, our girls are very much into, um, the arts. So I think something that's kind of become fun for us over the past few years is like finding new Christmas movies to like add to our list of muskies. So like, I always had my must watches, like,
00:31:15
Speaker
And mine is like a kind of a random one, like, um, the Twas the night before, like it's something like the old, the short ones. Like you got Rudolph, you got, uh, Frosty. I was, was a, uh, Twas the night before Christmas fan, uh, with the, the mice, you know, the live, but the mice. Yeah. But the, the clockmaker, or the watchmaker, um, the gold, the golden books or the movies.
00:31:36
Speaker
Uh, no, the movies. Yeah. Okay. Um, but so we've enjoyed just like trying to watch new things and find new ones. And so i'll I'll give you a couple that we've discovered over the last few years. Uh, actually a lot of like Netflix ones, honestly, like Christmas Chronicles, good movie, especially the first one. And then Klaus. Have you seen Klaus? Klaus is fantastic. Um, so big into that one. And then, you know, we'll mix in trying to watch and watch some older ones.
00:32:02
Speaker
Um, as well, like last year we watched four Christmases. I had, I had never, Kim and I had never even seen that. And we watched that with the family and that's it. That's another grant. Yeah. So like, just going through and trying to find bro, I know it's it's great, which I actually, I thought of that when you, when the nativity scene came up earlier, I was like, do you graduate ticket to be Vince Vaughn in the nativity season? Um, could you, could you just see Hunter? Well then grab this baby. Yes.
00:32:31
Speaker
But so i would I would say that's it. like we you know We do a lot of ah watching movies and not even just Christmas movies too, but the but that that's been kind of it, trying to find ah find the new traditions.
00:32:42
Speaker
I like it. I would say for me, it's um with my kids. And like I've always done it where the Thanksgiving night or Black Friday, I always watch Home Alone. Home Alone is my Christmas movie. That's like me, Home Alone 1 and 2. So I always watch Home Alone 1 every time. And I usually tweet out, it's Home Alone season. Like that's me. However, now with my kids,
00:33:06
Speaker
it's just doing the little things with them. So in the present, like be there when you're there, living in that moment, living in the present with them and just when I see them and when I have them and just being with them and spending time with them, it's when we go past houses maybe later in the afternoon that have lights on, just enjoying that moment. My mother got my son, he's five, he'll be six in January, a Lego advent calendar. So when he would come over, we'd hang out during the week,
00:33:35
Speaker
um you know we'd open a couple of the days up and just see what's in there and just playing with you know Christmas Legos so which playing with Legos at 37 years old is still as fun as it was maybe even a little bit better when I was seven years old so just that aspect of it all is great and then my daughter she's two she'll be three in January uh just with my daughter it's just the little things of kind of introducing her to the nuances of Christmas and the idiosyncrasies and the little traditions and kind of understanding it. Like, you know, she'll see an inflatable Santa as we drive by through a neighborhood and, you know, you know, lose her mind over it or see the Grinch. She's like, the Grinch, the Grinch. You know, she's, it's just so cool to see. So the present for me is just figuring out Christmas with my kids as they're very young. And my son just started kindergarten in this year. So he's going through all the things and
00:34:27
Speaker
doing uh they built gingerbread houses at a school and so being there with him to do that and just having him have those memories because one of the memories I have and you know Jim can attest to this his mother was one of my kindergarten teachers and one of my greatest memories was singing at night to our parents one of my favorite christmas songs of all time and it still is um and it just with my son it's I now I see his side of it now I see the child side of it that you know you don't notice when you're five and six years old so being in the present is just being with my kids as they're young and building those memories and building those little traditions that we get to create together so. Two things we've got Ponda's famous student
00:35:14
Speaker
ah yeah
00:35:17
Speaker
Second thing. Second thing. What was the favorite? What was the favorite Christmas song of all time? to that curious Oh my god. Oh, I can sing it. If I sing the lyrics, I'll figure it out. Must be Santa. That's it. Must be Santa. Nice. Okay. Yeah. That was, and I don't know why at Alfreda Elementary with Mrs. Head as our music teacher, that's what she chose, but that's what stuck. So must be Santa was the song that I still sing it today in the car and my son is like, dad, what is that? And I was like, it's jingle bells, but better. So, nice. What you got, bud? So, you know, I think about Christmas in the present. um obviously Obviously, I'm about to. Your present is very different.
00:36:01
Speaker
Yeah, we we haven't had that one yet so like I'm going to kind of, it's going to kind of be a past but like the most recent present that I had was like, I really enjoyed, um like, the last 10 years um since Megan and Megan and I have been together.
00:36:16
Speaker
um that Christmas that I described as my past shape kind of changed. um Whereas, you know, when we moved back to the coast, my family all lives here on the coast. Well, her family obviously lives in Georgia. So um we started spending Christmas in Georgia because it was kind of our, that was our deal, our trade-off. My family's here and we live here. And so we'll spend the holiday with your family. um And it's it was something that, you know, I really like,
00:36:46
Speaker
that I'm not having kids yet, like young adult, like we got to, we had to split the time obviously between Alpharetta and being down on the lake and just all the different things we would do at both places. Like when we're in an Alpharetta, I love, you know, going and, you know, just looking at all the Christmas lights and the little pop-up bars that they would do, like the Christmas theme pop-up bars.
00:37:15
Speaker
in downtown Alpharetta and you know, just like I had a spot, I had a spot, like it was my yearly spot and the people who worked there knew that that was my spot at Jekyll Brewing, not not the new one in downtown, but the original and the Marconi one, like that was my spot. And when they would do the little flights, when they first started doing those, and they would let me draw on the flights with a paint pen and I would always draw some you know, whatever was going on um in like the sporting world or whatever at the time. And they started where they would not, um they wouldn't erase them. They would keep mine up there.
00:37:54
Speaker
not to like try to brag or anything. but I can I can draw pretty good. So like, i mean it's is hard to keep we're talking about hunt hunt the Jones. Obviously, it's it's a hunt the Jones special. yeah that's kind of I mean, that's kind of where it all ah started, like, want to explore, like maybe doing like, some sports graphics type stuff. And um so every year they had the old one up there, like kind of started a collection up there. Anybody, any listener who might have ever been to that might have noticed one you might not have, but They were always back behind the bar. um And then like at the lake, you know, just having a fire every night. um
00:38:33
Speaker
yeah I really never watched any Christmas movies other than like when I was a kid, we would watch like this Claymation movies, like the Year Without a Santa Claus and stuff like that. But when I didn't realize how big of like a tradition watching certain Christmas movies was. And so I saw like Megan's family, they're they like watch ah Christmas Vacation religiously year. And so like,
00:39:04
Speaker
they like got me a t-shirt. Like we all had themed t-shirts. And we'd like pour a big glass of bourbon and like Megan and her mom would make like the rum chata and fireball for themselves. And we'd all just like sit and watch Christmas vacation with a fire going and just you know hang out at the lake for a week and ah smoke brisket and watch the bowl games. like So like that's been the last 10 years of how we spent it between the two places. And so that's what I think about right now because that's what we've had, but obviously it's about to change with the future one.
00:39:44
Speaker
is good
00:39:49
Speaker
um yeah dude i i christmas christmas vacation is a big thing my dad is a huge christmas a vacation fan like huge um yeah if you're if you're not quoting it while you're watching it like what are you even watching christmas vacation Um, all right. So present for me. So present for me. So as far as like, you know, talking about past and, you know, traditions that you have going on now. So one of the things that Lindsay's family did, um, on Christmas Eve, go to Christmas Eve service, and then we go to the Waffle House on Christmas Eve. Like that was like the thing that they did growing up.

Family and Holiday Traditions

00:40:27
Speaker
And I have really latched on to that. And so like what we so we go to go to Christmas Eve service the early afternoon. Then we go and eat dinner at at the Waffle House. And then we come home and we decorate sugar cookies. um Everybody has i There's a lot of baking that goes on during the day before we go to church. And so there's a lot of sugar cookies. And so the kids really enjoy decorating the cookies on Christmas Eve. And then we lay them out for Santa to come in and get. And they may or may not be encouraged to just set aside a tumbler, a high ball for Santa to enjoy a beverage as well.
00:41:05
Speaker
Um, but, uh, but yeah, that, that, that is one of my favorite things. Like right now that we do, you know, there's, uh, the Christmas Eve kind of process, I guess, if you will. And then I guess, well, I'll i'll save it for my future, but, um, yeah, that's, uh, that's, that's one of my favorite things right now.
00:41:26
Speaker
i enjoy I always personally enjoy getting the picture of the Powell Christmas cookies. I get sent the picture every year and I enjoy them every year. Yes. The ah there's ah there's usually hasn't hasn't so much the the competition has not been as um stiff as the kids have gotten older. But um there's definitely a a healthy competition on whose cookie is the best. And there's always a question on what Georgia-themed dad is going to do.
00:41:58
Speaker
Yes. Always always asleep always least there's always something. I think, I think last year I did Kirby. Anyway, your cookies are either lead in there or they're not. thats All right. So future, where's that leave you future Jim? So I'm going to attempt to weave my Christmases together throughout life and project to the future.
00:42:21
Speaker
So when I was a kid, um, we, we were always at home on Christmas. Um, and we always had like a big gathering at our, at our house, um, on Christmas. So we would do, we would do a Christmas evening as well. Like with, uh, with, uh, with my cousin, um, like at my grandparents house and my mom's house at my mom's parents house. And we called that early early Christmas. Um, but then like my, my cousin and my uncle and aunt, they would be with like her, um, family on Christmas day.
00:42:51
Speaker
And so then my mom's parents would come to our house and then my my dad's parents would also come to our house. We have a big everyone there Christmas um And we've kind of been that way as well. So we like we go to Georgia for Thanksgiving but then at Christmas usually folks are coming here um and so we'll have It's usually kind of like more of a rotation. but we'll have like My parents will be will be here and Ken's parents will be here and they'll kind of come through. um But I just always remember what that was like as a kid. like Oh my God, like my grandparents are here. It's like so cool. and then like My kids have had that with my parents coming here. like my my Their joke is like that my they call my dad's truck. They would call it like Poppy's sleigh. and He had loaded it up with presents for the kids and all that kind of stuff.
00:43:30
Speaker
Um, so I could just see, you know, the potential to do that and be, be on that grandparent side of that, uh, someday, um, and, you know, getting to go experience that, that next generation's Christmas. So that's what I look forward to in my, uh, my Christmas future.
00:43:48
Speaker
For me, it's, again, kind of like what Jim was saying with the kids. It's, you know, having my kids experience Christmas in a way for them, that's as good as it was for me when I was little. And just seeing them enjoy it and enjoy the moment and be there. And one thing that always that I've always wanted to stress with my kids is just, you know, even though they're so little is just have fun, you know, and enjoy it. and enjoy the traditions and kind of be there with the family and enjoy, you know, being with my brother, their uncle, being with my parents, their grandparents. And for me is, you know, personally going through life, you know, just different ah stages of life. ah My girlfriend, we're dating now and just starting new traditions with her as well. So incorporating what we've done
00:44:41
Speaker
With my kids throughout the past couple years and then, you know, my girlfriend being a part of it my girlfriend, you know, being a part of her family as well and just enjoying what we have together and enjoying the aspect of family because as most of you know I'm a teacher and so being off.
00:44:57
Speaker
you know for two two and a half weeks it lends me to a lot of time and so being able to spend time with my kids being able to spend time with my family like and being able to spend time with my girlfriend and just enjoy that time off and enjoy the moment and again like i said earlier be there when you're there and be there.
00:45:15
Speaker
present in the moment. And so that's been big for me going forward is making sure not only am I there for my kids, but also making sure that we enjoy the family traditions and that we enjoy them, not just for what they are, but we enjoy them together and we make our new family traditions as we go on. And so in the future, I just hope and look forward to the fact that I get to see my kids grow through the holidays and see my kids enjoy the holidays and see my kids enjoy being with their family and being with my grandparents and their mom's grandparents or their mom's parents, my parents, my, my brother, so their uncle and just enjoying those memories that they'll have that I had with my grandma Lucy and my grandpa Dave and grandpa John and grandma Betty. So that's just it for me is kind of giving them the happiness and joy that I had just in their life and in their own experience. Nice coach. I like it. Hunter, what's your future looking like? Well,
00:46:14
Speaker
I'm really looking forward to like, can I can I can i just interject? Yes. I'm really looking forward to you complaining about the noisy, noisy toys that your, your, your parents get you.
00:46:31
Speaker
yes but sorry good I'm really looking forward to like starting our traditions to where like, true, it's going to have that Christmas magic, you know, like,
00:46:42
Speaker
I don't know what it is we're going to do, but we've already got a Santa cookie plate ready. He's got a little custom one made. Just different things to make the magic for him and to get to establish that and all that nostalgia that, you know,
00:47:06
Speaker
I remember about Christmas having the chance to allow him to have that um and you know all the way up from the little stages that we're at right now until he gets older like I'm looking forward to that whole progression and just getting to be a part of it. I like it.
00:47:28
Speaker
Amazing. Yeah. Hunter, start buying batteries now. I saw John Smith's. Yeah, John Smith's. That whole like battery pack brother invest in two. Uh-huh. Uh-huh. So i'm I've got to tell y'all, I hate to do this, but i way we got to get to bed. But oh before I left, before I left, I wanted to tell y'all my story about my near miss today with my my midwinter nights, uh, dream pickup.
00:47:56
Speaker
It was almost an unfortunate event. So we had our 60% day at school today. So I was coming through town early. And i you know, I never get to come to town early. Most of the time I'm coming through town and it's like, dark. So um I was like, oh I'll stop by the local store, you know, the one that usually gets all the good bottles, because I've been seeing on Facebook that like our local restaurants downtown that will carry you like actual good, like Elmer T. Weller, like the habit at the bar, like Maison de Lou, a place that I posted and talked about a lot. They posted that they had gotten um ah so a stag and an Elmer T. And so I knew that the local liquor stores, two good ones, they that's who supplies them. So I knew that the allocated bottles were starting to come in.
00:48:49
Speaker
this week. So I was like, Oh, you know, I'll stop in, maybe I'll get lucky. And so I almost had like a nice guy's finished last story today. So I have my two bottles that that are my, my bottles. And if I see them, I've already ah prepared Megan, I had to like easier off the off the ledge today. If I find all husbands are want to do in situations like this. Yeah. So if I find one of these two bottles, and the price has a one at the beginning, I'm buying it. And it's it's the mid winter and it's the weller 107. So those those are my two bottles that if if I find it, I'm getting it for that under that about one. um So
00:49:38
Speaker
I'm walking yeah up out of my car and to go into the store and this guy, and I don't know this guy, but he's coming in, he's behind me. Um, and so I go up to the door and I open the door and I open the door for him and let him go in. He walks in front of me and he walks straight over to the little shelf where the allocated are and picks up the last mid winter and brings it up to the counter and buys it. And I'm like, I literally look around like I've dumbfounded.
00:50:08
Speaker
And I'm like, I guess I should have let that guy go in front of me, just like talking out loud to myself. And luckily the owner was like standing there and me and him have had some conversations before about, you know, some different wines and stuff. When I've been looking and he, go he like noticed and like made eye contact with me and he's like, one second, you know, and he checks that guy out and that guy leaves and he's like, I got one more in the back.
00:50:35
Speaker
So I'll bring it out to you. So there's always one more to me. And so then I was like, Oh, crap, like, I'm actually about to do this. Let me let me call Megan and see if she just wants him like a bottle of wine. <unk>t say i'm like walking I'm like walking around the store. And then he comes up to me because I'm trying to call her and she's at school. So she's not answering. And so he comes up to me, he's like, Are you looking for something? I know we've talked about some different lines before. um you're in here looking at some cake bread last time. I know, I know you said your wife likes cake bread. I got some more of those. And I was like, oh, he like put me on the spot. So I didn't know what to do. And so I just was like, well, we just went to a wine dinner at Maison de Louvre. And that was Caymus wines. And she really liked Caymus wines. So I see that y'all got some of those. And he's like, oh, yeah, do you remember which one it was? And so I'm like, stalling, hoping she'll call me back. So I can be like, hey, I'm about to buy this ah
00:51:30
Speaker
really expensive bottle of bourbon, please don't kill me. Um, but, uh, yeah, she said she still wants to kill me and she said, right. They always, they always want to kill you. They always want to kill you. hunt so Anyway, we like, I strike up this conversation with him because he already, he's already put the bottle out for me. Like it's, it's, they're waiting for me. So I have to buy it at this point. Um, and he, um, it showed me these different famous wines.
00:51:59
Speaker
And I pull up a menu from when I went to the wine bag went to the wine night. And I found the one that she liked. He's like, Oh, I got one in the back. He brought it out. And he's like, Oh, he's like, I'll throw it in. I'll throw a discount on it. You know, just because you're getting this bottle and we talked. So I got the two bottles um for a price that made me feel better about the two bottles versus just the one bottle.
00:52:24
Speaker
Well, to quote a losing SEC coach and Steve Sarkeesian, it's not a sacrifice, it's an investment. There you go. Nice. What is Meg saying? I don't know what she's talking about. She said she deserved something, would you? Hold on, let me mute. Oh, she said she thinks because she let me buy that wine.
00:52:49
Speaker
She deserves a dog bone that y'all get out on Twitter. Hell yeah. There we go. You see, Hunter, and that's the investment paying dividends right there. See, not a sacrifice, it's an investment. Megan Jones pays attention. Updating. She does pay attention. Well, let's let's just, don't toot her horn too much now. Let's probably figure out how this all started. When she's back before. It's gone the Y emojis on the web yeah right there.
00:53:19
Speaker
back before Charlotte when she was saying that y'all are my fake SpongeBob friends. That's what she said about y'all.
00:53:28
Speaker
False. I had the Christmas card to prove that it's false. It's false. That's so good. That's so good. That's the beauty. That's the beauty of dog Twitter is that the your your friends online are actually real. I promise you. We exist in reality.
00:53:46
Speaker
Yeah, every time, every time she comes to a game, she's still like, I still can't believe that all those people are real. And they like, they like call you Hunter Jones. You're so late and so late. Hey, it's like you have a teenager. It's weird. he's Bro, this season introducing my girlfriend to everybody, I was like, well, this is, this is John Powell, Jim Wood and normal. And then I'm like, and then I introduced him to like, Oh, that's hug dog. You know,
00:54:14
Speaker
are these people Oh, you're Twitter friends. I get it. I'm like, okay. Thanks. Like the real thing. Meg was not on it all. they were Don't worry. me was that was My girlfriend would be pretty good friends. Just saying, yeah, there we go. Meg was not alone in Charlotte. Cam was like, we're really going to this tailgate with all those these people that you've never met before.
00:54:41
Speaker
Yeah, my dad's going. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. And then we quickly found out like everyone knew my dad. are Oh, your Fripp dog son. Cool. Well, to this day, I knew something was weird at Charlotte because I like i didn't even fully understand like to what extent the Twitter went until Charlotte because I got to that tailgate and people like, I have no idea who these people are. Never seen them in my life. They're coming up to me.
00:55:08
Speaker
And they're like, Oh, you're hunting Jones. And I'm like, yeah. who' asking and together Like, bro, I love your edits on the uniforms that we should do. yeah uniform data They were all like, they either love me or hate me because I tweeted the like in sad sources about the color. rush Oh my god, that was hilarious. That's still one of the greatest things about that game. So amazing. You never know. You never know when you're gonna get tagged by a hunter on a tweet that lasts the entire season. yeah But I mean, dog Twitter is so it's so deep to like, it's not just at tailgates. Like when I went to the Masters two years ago now, like I was running into people at the Masters. They were like,
00:55:52
Speaker
You're hot. The Jones you do the uniform stuff and i'm like, yes. I'm like, yes, I am. We're walking around Augusta national and people are like, calling me by my twitter name. I'm like, what is happening right now? What is happening? Meg's just sitting in the background, rolling her eyes like, oh, geez. She is rolling her eyes at me. she's gonna kill us She's still going to kill him about the bourbon.
00:56:17
Speaker
I saw the price here in Georgia on that stuff yesterday. I can only imagine if it's even actually it wasn't better or a little worse than it was here. Like, brother, I get it. like it was It was within a couple of dollars. what it was it It was in the range. It was in the range of acceptability for a retail bottle, but um definitely too rich for my blood.
00:56:39
Speaker
Yeah. I text the group before I bought it to like that. Every time I see a bottle, I like, yeah, I shoot it into the group real fast and see what everybody has to say. What do you think? What do you think? It's a good price. It was a good price. I've seen it for, I've seen it sold for a lot more than that. Um, I guess it's my turn. Well, before y'all get started on something new, I'm going to go ahead and peace out. Uh, appreciate y'all having me on. Always brother. Looking forward to a, uh,

Another dog's win here in a couple weeks on a New Year's and hopefully some of dog Twitter dog nation can make their way down.
00:57:18
Speaker
on their way to New Orleans and stop by the best city on the coast. I'm not talking about Biloxi. I know all y'all Georgia people like to go to Biloxi to the casinos for some reason, but Ocean sp spring versus oceanha Springs is the best city on the coast and it's right across the bridge. ah Me and Meg can show y'all around and all all the ah good spots. Hunter, are you guys going to the game? I don't know yet.
00:57:47
Speaker
um Meg actually said today, she was like, even if we don't get tickets, I figured you want to go over to Bourbon Street for the day because all your friends are going to be out all your fake friends are going to be over there. So that sounds like an approval. That sounds like a tacit approval. That's that's a verbal agreement. Yeah, it'll be a birthday celebration because her birthday is on the second. Hey, there we go. There we go. happy That's the real reason she wants to go to Bourbon Street.
00:58:15
Speaker
I like, I like that. I like that thinking. Happy early birthday, Meg the Jones. Yes. They said a happy early birthday. may ah Show notes have been updated to make sure Meg the Jones gets a dog as well. She said, thanks she's going to be old. You are not old, false. You're, you're state champion cheerlea cheerleading coach, right? Uh-huh. Not this year. Oh, sorry. They didn't, they didn't this year. When was that? the chap Two years ago.
00:58:43
Speaker
State champions. Hunter, you should have lied. We wouldn't have researched it. We'd have been like, oh, hell yeah. Let's go. I saw rings. That's all I know. Yeah, they got a ring. That's more than I can say. For my coach's career, there's a reason I'm a assistant principal and not a coach anymore, I guess. Brother, there's a reason I'm a teacher and not an assistant principal, so here we are.
00:59:06
Speaker
ah Uh, good stuff. Enjoy the Christmas season. Merry Christmas to the Jones clan. Uh, thanks for hopping on buddy. yeah man we love you problem Enjoy that first Christmas with true with the true man.
00:59:18
Speaker
Absolutely. Merry Christmas. Good dogs. Go dogs. Hi, JP. We need your Christmas future. My Christmas future. Yes. So I'm going to do a little bit of weaving as well of of the past and present. um So, so there's a couple of things. So for one of the things that I didn't mention about the present. um As I was a kid, growing up, we always went to my my family, my dad. My dad is from Decatur. um <unk> He's actually from Villareca, but he grew up in Decatur. um And they every Christmas would go to Rhodes Bakery on Churchbridge Road. and
00:59:56
Speaker
um Rhodes Bakery is like super famous old, old bakery back in the day. Like it had been around for forever. It recently, I say recently in the last like 10 years, I can't remember exactly when, but it closed. So they they they would always go to Rhodes Bakery on Christmas, before Christmas and get, um, petty force, um, little, little mini miniature cakes that are I don't want to say they're they're cupcakes, but like, you know, they're little squares of cakes basically coated in frosting and with little wreaths and Christmas designs or whatever. It's my grandmother's thing. um So we don't go to Rhodes Bakery anymore today. We go to Publix and and get Petty Forest because Rhodes Bakery no longer exists.
01:00:39
Speaker
They're right next to Rhodes Bakery is one of Atlanta's oldest restaurants. The Colonnade um is a is a Atlanta staple that is a restaurant that we go to at some point in the Christmas season. We usually go to it this ah this year. we We're actually going this Saturday. We're going to go to the colonnades. My dad's it's a big thing for my dad. um So we're going to that. And so as far as like the future, like like I'm just wondering like what traditions my kids are going to hold on to. Are they going to continue to go into the Waffle House? I feel like Waffle House is going to be a pretty popular thing moving forward with my kids and their and their kids. um They're going to find something. So usually what they do on on Christmas Eve with the Waffle House is we usually leave a big tip for the waitresses and stuff that are they're leaving that are serving.
01:01:30
Speaker
um you know right right there on the holiday. um Because Waffle House never closes. Yeah. think So you you try to you try to tip the waitresses. Also, it's just fantastically delicious. um I have a feeling Carter is definitely going to hold on to that one because he really likes Waffle House.
01:01:49
Speaker
yeah um but And I think Camden too. that Both of them love bacon. So Uh, so, so, you know, what I just, I just look forward to like what traditions, and like I have a feeling that the cookie decorating is also going to be something that gets hold held onto to you. Like what, what things do we do that are, that we find value in, are they going to continue to do and what new things are they going to inject? So like one of the things that I've injected into my family is.
01:02:22
Speaker
i I don't know why it sticks out to me, but one time when we were little, we went to Callenwald in Atlanta, which was my mom's, like it was a huge deal for my mom. i I remember her. I remember we parked forever away. It felt like we were walk we walked forever away. like it was It was just like a thing that we did back then um where we went to Callenwald.
01:02:46
Speaker
And Callenwald is this old plantation home in Atlanta. It's kind of like the Atlanta version of the Biltmore, but on a much smaller scale. It's a huge mansion, a huge plot of property in right there in Midtown, right next to 10th Street. If you're at Piedmont Park, it's literally a stones that are away from Piedmont Park.
01:03:05
Speaker
um If you've never been, it's cool. They decorate. It's very old school. um It's kind of like, um you know, going to Downton Abbey or something like that. Like if you go because they they have people that are playing piano and there's a fire going and they have a big campus and there's a bunch of art. It's kind of an art installation at this point these days, but if they decorate it for Christmas and it looks really cool.
01:03:26
Speaker
And we usually go there before, like and in our modern times, we go there before we go to the colonnade. So this Saturday, I'm taking my kids to go down to the colonnade. We're going to take them beforehand to go to Kalamazoo. Um, and so that's, you know, there's little things that, uh, that you do, you you know, these things that you do, like, what are, what are your kids going to hold onto? And those are the things that I'm kind of looking forward to is like, what are they doing? And then what are they going to do? That's new.
01:03:53
Speaker
So something that's new for me was, you know, the cookie decorating and the wall files. Like that was something that I was like, Oh, that's really cool. So, you know, what are, what are they going to create and what are they going to bring into the family when they marry, you know, when they marry and they have kids, like, what are they going to do? Um, Hunter's not on anymore, but Hunter, um, if you can at all avoid like no Elf on the shelf, do not do that.
01:04:18
Speaker
It's like, it's like, it's like inception. Like I wish I could go back in time yeah and like the John, John at the time was like, what is this stuff on the shelf thing? Oh, people are doing it now. That's cool. No. Yeah. Yeah. You need the interstellar, uh, whatever thing. Yeah. to talk to but Knock on, knock on the thing.
01:04:38
Speaker
Um, but yeah, I used to teach elementary school. My kids would ask, Hey, can we do alpha? And I'd say no every year. I was like, absolutely not avoided like the plague. Uh, I'm very fortunate. Um, shout out, shout out to Caroline, my 10 year old. She has, she just started. She's usually the first one awake in the morning.
01:05:01
Speaker
Um, she gets up at like five 30 every single morning and she will come downstairs and take care of the elf. Like she, she takes care of the elf every single day. Um, uh, actually she didn't take care of it this evening because I can see it's still there. So I'm going to have to move the elf, which hashtag like elf on the shelf sucks. I hate elf on the shelf. Our elf made its way back out somehow this year, and but it's been in the same spot for like over a week.
01:05:27
Speaker
Oh man. It's like we did it once and I was like good it's done. Oh man. Dude it's funny it's funny because Caroline started she started doing like small off the rails um she started doing up on the shelf and she started doing like all all throughout she had like the elaborate thing she was she like did all the setups she actually like filled up the sink and died at green and like made a sign and all this stuff. Like the Grinch was here. She's like been on Pinterest looking at, he's been on Pinterest. exactly She's been on Pinterest. She's doing, she's doing the elf things. But the thing is, is that her little sister loves it. Her little sister loves it. And so, and so like watching the two, like, which, you know, seven year old, 10 year old, like she's in fifth grade. She's in second grade. Like she's almost in middle school. She's almost too cool for school, you know, kind of thing. yeah
01:06:19
Speaker
um anyway that's that's been fun that's been fun to watch but now now like we're getting down to the crunch time it's almost christmas i feel like cara it's like i'm so
01:06:30
Speaker
and So now she's just like randomly leaving it in like the appliances and stuff. Imagine if they did elf on the shelf at the UGA football facility. Like, you know, they do like all the Instagram videos and like that. What if they did that for like the players? I don't know. That was like, I guess like a drunk thought, but here we are.
01:06:50
Speaker
Oh man, we need to, we need to like drop those hints on the, on the, on the UGA socials. That'd be so amazing. That'd be amazing. That's amazing content. Elf on the shelf on a tackling dummy. Elf on the shelf in the nutrition, you know, room. Elf on the shelf in like the bones diner. It's like riding along on the sled when they're hitting the sled, quote unquote. what What, what if, what if Elf on the shelf had a black jersey on in the equipment room and the and the equipment Twitter. bro i really i it's I would have another reason to tweet out, be like, Oh my God, maybe we should wear black jerseys this game.
01:07:30
Speaker
Yes, up on the shelf and like pads and helmet. Spike squad god savage pads I love it the the the possibility oring pick ah they are Yes, exactly all in the natty trophy like it's a gun with the white the white helmet Yeah why all like
01:07:51
Speaker
where hunter or some du directies So I gotta know, we kind of just meandered

College Football Playoff Insights

01:07:56
Speaker
into football. Should we talk about the playoff? We have, we have actual like 12 team playoff round one games this weekend. Oh, that's right. We act. Oh, that's right. We won the SEC. So we got to buy. Oh, eithers you to the teams that have to play that never made the 14 playoff Tennessee that gets a play in these. Whoa. Oh, they're playing games. Oh, that's cute. Yeah. yeah Sorry. I have to be. Imagine being in a poverty program that has to do a preview episode of your podcast this week. Yeah, seriously. Seriously. And we're previewing Tennessee at Ohio State. do we want to ah do we I feel like we should either start with or end with the Friday night game because that's that's what I'm going to be most tuned in to to learn who our our opponent is. You want to do that one first or last?
01:08:42
Speaker
Jim, ah it's it's your show. Let's do that. Let's do it. Let's do that. last Let's so let's start. Let's go through Saturday first and we'll come back to Friday. So the nooner, the nooner, the big noon kickoff on on TNT instead of on Fox, you've got SMU, 11th seated SMU heading to sixth seated Penn State. ah Man, tickets as low as $40 according to ESPN. um Wild. And Penn State is an eight and a half favorite.
01:09:11
Speaker
You know, just looking at it, I mean, it's noon. It's going to be probably what mid thirties because it's a noon. So it's only going to get a little bit warmer. However, you know, big 10 fans keep talking about oh big 10 weather, big 10. It's all farce to me. I've never really seen it as anything worth anything to get talked about. However, SMU is going to face the toughest team they play all year. I think it'll be close. I think a lot of these games will be close. The lines, I don't think are as good as they could be.
01:09:41
Speaker
I could see Penn State winning by 10. However, I think that would be the max they went by. SMU showed that they can come back in the ACC Championship game. They did it against Clemson. Clemson not as good as Penn State, but with Drew Aller and the running game of Penn State, I think it's one of those type of games that as George Vance, like a methodical death march, known as Kirby Death March,
01:10:05
Speaker
um However, I see Penn State winning by at least a touchdown. So I don't think they cover, but I think Penn State wins. Yeah, that tracks. Give me Penn State and Happy Valley in December. Yeah. Team from Texas. Yeah. Yeah. I'll agree. I'll agree. We'll have a, we'll have a clean sweep and we'll go over. We'll go to Penn State.
01:10:23
Speaker
I don't know. I don't know that I trust James Franklin, um but I'm going to trust him. I'm going to trust him in this game. I don't know that I trust him beyond this one, but I'm going to trust him this week. What is SMU ranked? Well, they're seeded 11th ranked. Okay. He's good. Yeah. I think i think James Franklin has like a very well-established He's winless against top five opponents or something like that. Yeah, which I i guess they're top 10 top 10 opponents They're probably ranked 11th, I guess too, right to be able to stay in to stay in I think they had to be so it's weird how they're they probably 10 actually, I guess versus the rankings I think According to espn. They just have the rankings listed not necessarily or sorry the standings listed not necessarily the rankings Yeah, that's how they have it which makes sense but
01:11:08
Speaker
Yeah, again, the the whole system is flawed, but we can't fix it. So here we go. Yeah, I totally agree there. Oh, I'm going to pull up the rankings. I'll find it and I'll i'll tell you. um In interim, you've got the so the next game also on TNT, which is still weird to me that ESPN is like outsourced some of these games. um So you got 12 seated Clemson at fifth seated Texas.
01:11:33
Speaker
Uh, tickets as low as $66. Um, according to ESPN, uh, Texas minus 12, which I'm, I'm shocked by like the, how available all these tickets are. That's kind of wild to me. Uh, but anyways, um, so who do you get? You guys got their, uh, Clemson.
01:11:51
Speaker
for Texas. For these TNT games, I just hope that they have the NBA crew of Kenny Smith, Shaq, Charles Barkley, and Ernie Johnson just be like, you know, just doing all the pregame for it because that would be insane content. With that being said, Clemson at Texas, again, I think this is a lot closer than everybody thinks. A lot of people will see Clemson's record and see what they did in the ACC Championship, letting SMU come from behind. They needed, a you know,
01:12:19
Speaker
uh game ending field goal to win it a lot of people will see that as oh texas easily at home walks all over him however dabbo is playoff prepared dabbo other than kirby is the only current head coach with two national championships Dabo to me knows the playoffs and I was explaining this to a Clemson friend of mine recently I said I don't care what Clemson's record is They're one of those teams that when they make the playoffs especially with Dabo They just know what to do. They're a playoff ready. It's kind of like the Patriots long ago when
01:12:52
Speaker
you know Tom Brady didn't have a handful of wide receivers. It was just like, just get them to the playoffs. They got Tom Brady. Get Clemson to the playoffs, they got Dabo. I don't necessarily, and I say that, and I follow it up with a sincere i little sorry sincere iron irony of, I don't think Clemson wins. However, I think they keep it really close. I think this comes down to a field goal. I think this comes down to one possession.
01:13:17
Speaker
And it's really close in the end. And I think Texas wins. However, Dabo keeps it closer than everybody thinks. Dabo keeps it closer closer than everybody wants. And everybody leaves that game still thinking, well, damn, is Texas really that good? Or is Texas just going to walk into the Rose Bowl now against Oregon and get boat raced? Or sorry, not the Rose Bowl against Oregon. A walk into the Peach Bowl against Arizona State.
01:13:43
Speaker
So I have Texas winning. I have Clemson keeping it close. It is by a field goal. And that's just because Davo knows the playoffs. That's just my take. yeah yeah after After their kicker missed two field goals in the SEC championship. Now, maybe it's a Clemson field goal missing that wins it, you know? Dude, can we please just press pause? Like Arizona State and the winner of that game plays in the Peach Bowl? How did the Peach Bowl get shafted?
01:14:13
Speaker
Yeah, I that's where like you distance, not in our favor. Well, we had a lot of confusion on my part because, John, like you were right. You were telling you kept saying, telling me like that we were going to the sugar bowl and I was like, I don't know. Like, do we know that? And like we did, but I didn't realize that. Like I thought it would be kind of like the old in the 14 playoff, the higher ranked teams could kind of like pick where they wanted to go yeah when it was just two games. So I had kind of assumed it would still be like that, but it's not like if you're Georgia. So it's like,
01:14:40
Speaker
what Oregon's won. So they get the rose because tradition. Um, and then with us being two, we get the sugar because of tradition where I mean, I would have much rather had the peach bowl, but yeah, it's going to win. and Here's what's crazy. If we win the sugar bowl, we go to the orange bowl. Who would have thought 10 years ago, you'd have told a Georgia man, Hey man, in 2024, Georgia is going to be in the post-season. They're going to play in the sugar bowl and then potentially play in the orange bowl to play in the national championship.
01:15:07
Speaker
Your Mark Griggs fan would have been like, brother with Mark Griggs, we ain't doing any of that. yeah yeah These are the good old days. these are Exactly. like a little bit jeff as as jims As Jim's wearing the old hat. Exactly. Yeah, yeah seriously. The good old hat. So, yeah yeah, John, sorry to interrupt. What do you think about Texas Clemson?
01:15:28
Speaker
Oh man, um you you were giving me the hard sell on Dabo and you had me, you had me for a second and then you went and picked against him and I'm like, bro.
01:15:41
Speaker
Give me, give me Texas in that one, man. Texas is good. Texas is a good team, man. Um, I think that they just, like, you know, there's just some teams that Kirby matches up really well against. And so far, you know, Sarkeesian, you know, hypo, you know, we've beaten, we're 4-0 against, we're 4-0 against playoff teams. Like, yeah but like what? Crazy. How?
01:16:06
Speaker
All right, here's what you guys are forgetting. and any In any good bracket, you have at least one 12-5 upset. Give me a Clemson. Oh, okay.
01:16:18
Speaker
The basketball minute return. the v back ah right does' All That's all I got. I have no real analysis to say that other than, and go cousin Sammy, Sammy, let Clemson and tackles in the ACC title game against SMU. He did. He did. you know I think, which is insane. Yeah. He was all over the field.
01:16:38
Speaker
Well, and it's interesting, I used to coach a four, i you when he was in middle school, I coached a kid that's at Clemson right now. He's a backup linebacker, plays a lot of special teams, D Crank number 22. Outstanding kid, great family at the same time. I mean, he knows I'm all dog. I know he's all tiger.
01:16:56
Speaker
yeah Texas by by this much, by a small smidge. Fair enough, fair enough. A smidge. I pulled up the rankings to compare. Clemson is ranked 16th, seeded 12th. SMU we're talking about earlier, seeded 11th, they're actually ranked 10th by the playoff. They had

Ohio State vs Tennessee Analysis

01:17:14
Speaker
to drop to the Arizona state, jump them because of the whole conference champion buy thing.
01:17:19
Speaker
And I like giving Bama one more middle finger. So here we are. Yeah. I'm all for that. I'm all for that. Uh, let's see the prime time game on Saturday night is on ABC. You got number nine seated seventh ranked in nine seated Tennessee at sixth ranked eighth seated Ohio state, uh, tickets as low as $90 according to ESPN Ohio state. That is crazy. That one is crazy. Yep. Yep. And Ohio State's favorite by seven and a half Tennessee fans claim or claiming once again, that it's going to be of all takeover in order to take over in the stadium. I don't know. Like they kept saying that they've said that multiple times in Athens and it didn't happen. Um, we'll see if they can actually pull that off here, but here you guys go. My take on it is so Ryan day is lost to Michigan for straight times.
01:18:07
Speaker
One of those times they made, they still made the playoff and they gave Georgia the best game they could have given that year. It was the best game that season by a nautical mile and Georgia just ended up being on top because ruggles can't hit from 50.
01:18:22
Speaker
It is what it is. That's why I wear the back-to-back hoodie right now. At the same time, nice Ohio State is still facing the same adversity. They can't get over the Michigan hump. They can't get over the rival hump. However, Ryan Day has done so many good things at at Ohio State.
01:18:40
Speaker
He's won nearly 50 games as a head coach in four seasons, which is insane. I mean, that's ah you're getting into Kirby level levels of greatness here. He's pretty much done everything at Ohio State except win the national championship. And sadly for them, beat Michigan.
01:18:57
Speaker
yeah I don't see Ohio State having two straight home games against top top opponents, especially in the playoff, in losing. Now, we've seen Tennessee. They set up the run to use the pass. However, I've said with Tennessee all year, there is no plan B with Tennessee if you get on top of them by two or more scores. They do not come back on you. It's like Paul Johnson with Georgia Tech and the triple option.
01:19:25
Speaker
If you can get on top of Paul Johnson and get ahead of them by two or more scores, they had no plan B. Tennessee has no plan B. Shut down the run to eliminate the pass, and then shut down the outside passing, especially with your, you know, your X receiver and your Z receiver, and it's done fourth. And we've seen it what, oh, that's right, four straight times under Josh Hypel here in Athens. and So with that being said,
01:19:50
Speaker
Ohio State fans will scream Big 10 weather all day. That's not gonna play a factor. What's gonna play a factor is if their defense steps up. Ohio State has the defenders to do it. Caleb Downs in the secondary, they have a great front seven, at least a great front seven that can compete with an SEC team like Tennessee that likes to run between the tackles. George has written written the playbook for how to shut Tennessee down.
01:20:14
Speaker
If Ryan Day doesn't at least look at that film and at least you use that film and at least give, you know, at least or take what Kirby's given him, he's just a complete idiot. Ohio State should win this game. It will be close. Again, I think a lot of these opening playoff games are going to be close. This game in Columbus, I think is going to be particularly close. It's going to be one of the better games on.
01:20:38
Speaker
Again, it's going to be one of the best opening games for the round of 12. However, I do not see Ryan Day losing two games in a row at home against ranked opponents. He's done well against ranked opponents and he's done well against ranked opponents on the road. yeah So give me Ryan Day, give me at home. I don't care how many fans they put in the shoe.
01:21:02
Speaker
Columbus in the shoe seats, what, 101,000? Neland seats, 102,000? Tennessee fans act like if they bring 20,000 people, it changes the entire game. It doesn't change anything for Ohio State. Ohio State has seen more Michigan fans there. They've seen more Michigan State fans there.
01:21:22
Speaker
yeah Hell, they've probably seen more Indiana fans there this year. Give me Ohio State, Niko get shut down, Niko can't handle the noise going into the shoe like he did going into the student section in the teeth of the stadium in Athens. I like Ryan Day in this, I like Ohio State. They somehow find a way, they somehow just do what they got to do. They have too many weapons. Yeah. not got Too many weapons. Ohio State, 24-20.
01:21:52
Speaker
Nice. That's it. I'm got so sorry. you sold me You sold me on it. You sold me on it. However, I do think that Tennessee is going to invade this. The ticket prices are indicative of this being a, I don't know, Ohio State just doesn't seem like that they're up for it.
01:22:09
Speaker
Cause otherwise I feel like ticket prices would be more like the UGA versus Tennessee game. So that's part of the reason why I say, you know, I don't necessarily think that it's going to be a scam because, you know, they didn't take over ours because we basically were also wanting to gum, but this one feels very much like a Ohio state feels like that they're this, this ain't it, you know, kind of mode. Yeah.
01:22:34
Speaker
Um, I think that I do think that Tennessee is going to invade. and Um, well, they've been waiting. They've been waiting for a postseason game like this since 1998. That's exactly. This is their Rose Bowl. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. That's a good, good analogy. Um, the Rose Bowl that they won't get to see against Oregon. Right. Right. right This is their Rose Bowl in Ohio.
01:23:00
Speaker
check checks, checks, notes. I don't know, man. I think that I think that Ohio State is fraudulent. Give me Tennessee. Hmm, man. i I, I, this one is, this one's tough for me. Um, I don't, I don't, I don't know. I don't know who's going to, I don't know who's going to show up. Um, like which Ohio state is going to show up. I do think like, I don't think they're as good as we kind of thought they were, although they did, they did play Oregon, you know, really tight game there. And I do think Oregon is pretty good. Um, I think Oregon is fraudulent. You think Oregon is fraudulent too. I don't know.
01:23:38
Speaker
I don't know how to... This is the other thing too where we're in a new world where I don't know what I want. right like do i want do you want Do you want the SEC to do well you know to get more SEC teams in so that someday when you need that benefit of the doubt, the SEC gets that benefit that of the doubt? Or is it just, I hate Tennessee so therefore I want them to lose? you know like I don't know. We're in a new world and I don't know how to feel about some of this stuff yet. so I'm going to hold those feelings for later. but Uh, I'm going to take, the I'm going to take the home team in this one, uh, kind of lead side with, uh, with coaches thoughts there, but I do think this is going to be a close one. I think this is, I could see this being the best game of the opening round games. So, you know, it's interesting statement that you say that because, and especially with the hate for Tennessee, like I get it, a ton of Georgia fans do not like Ohio state, yeah but I've spent this whole week wondering.
01:24:29
Speaker
why so many Georgia fans are pulling for Tennessee like I saw on Twitter today of people going back and forth, Georgia fans going back and forth between Tennessee and Ohio State. And I'm like, guys, in the words of, you know, iced tea on Dave Chappelle's player haters ball, I'm gonna hate on him till he broke and ain't got nothing left. I'm gonna hate on Tennessee till they broke and ain't got nothing 1998 left. Like, I couldn't care less like Ohio State by damn 90 bucks by 90. Yeah. That's just.

Notre Dame vs Indiana Preview

01:25:03
Speaker
No, I hear you. I hear you. I hear you. That's. I don't get why Georgia fans are pulled for Tennessee. That's where that's. not all Put it aside. Yeah. you don't need We're not getting the sec sec chance ah for dancing.
01:25:15
Speaker
no one rooted for florida in 2006 to beat ohio state and if you did he ain't a real dog coach coach trill buck nasty all right so the first game but the last one we'll talk about so tomorrow tomorrow night for us now if you're listening if you're listening maybe it's already happened or it's about to happen and um we got number seven seated nerd aim hosting number 10 seated indiana eight o'clock kickoff Now, this is what I'm talking about. $496 to get in. That's the get in price. That's not a 500, but yeah. Yeah. I mean, $496. Yeah. 500. Yeah. the indian this the state The Indiana State Championship, Notre Dame, Indiana. Notre Dame favored by seven.
01:26:02
Speaker
Um, but let's say battle for the old state of mike pence, but that's a podcast for another day I uh, when i'm and this is again, like what do I want to see kind of thing? And i'm just going to like matchups, right? So we've hardly played their day and we played them three times So we're either looking at our only fourth matchup against nerd aim or the first ever georgia indiana matchup So that's what we're we're looking at my only my only take on this is Here it is. So, over fall break, the weekend of the Georgia-Alabama game, my girlfriend and I, we traveled up to Fort Wayne, Indiana. She's originally from there or had a good bit of years of her childhood up there. Her best friend from her childhood lives up there, Carrie.
01:26:43
Speaker
Great family carrying Dan welcomed us how to stay with them. They are IU alumni We literally talked about there while we were up there saying hey, maybe Georgia and Indiana would meet up in the CFP and the whole time is there as Indiana fans are like ah we're for know we'll lose the next week and Eh, we beat Michigan State. Eh, we'll lose the net. Like, they are Indiana football fans or Georgia basketball fans. They're the same people. However, I love me Indiana people. Being up there with them for three to four days was one of the greatest things I've done. And I swear to God, matriculating my way through the Rust Belt did something for the soul. Did something for the low-key coach trilling me to understand what the Big Ten goes through.
01:27:34
Speaker
here Here is the ultimate sorry, Carter. F those MFs. I censored it for these gyms because i you don't got to do it yourself. So F those MFs I'm taking, and my boy Kurt Signetti, sigs inside. gi me Give me Indiana in an upset of Notre Dame. Now granted, in real life, this may go like 30 to four. Google. Google me.
01:28:04
Speaker
Give me six inside, baby. I'm going to take Indiana and I'm going to be with my ah people Carrie and Dan at a Fort Wayne. Love you guys at the same time. Indiana has the offense. Do they have the defense? That's the thing. That's my question. Notre Dame has the run defense.
01:28:22
Speaker
But at the same time, they got a good they got a good passing offense. And at the same time, their passing defense gives it up a lot. So yeah yes if Indiana can stay on pace, which they did not do in Columbus against Ohio State, which was their biggest game, and they're going to be on the road again, it's going to be tough. I got to go with my um ah people. Carrie and Dan, love you guys. Sig's inside. Indie by anything at this point.
01:28:50
Speaker
and I like it. I like it. What do you got JP? Um, ah I want you to, I'll let you go first on this one. ah So I'm kind of the same thing. I'm like, like, I i do think Indiana's offense is good. They couldn't keep pace with Ohio state, but I also feel like Notre Dame isn't Ohio state. I don't know what to make a Notre Dame. I mean, like they lost to Northern Illinois. I mean, like, come on. Um, they did beat A and&M, but that was earlier, very early in the season.
01:29:15
Speaker
Um, I'm, but I don't know, I'm still going to go. I'm, I'm just going to go with the home team here. Um, I did, uh, I did, I did a ah little bit of research, the CF, the cultural insiders that we look at, uh, like stats at war. Um, they do have, they've got another name, 62% win probability. They've got nerd named 27.2 to Indian at 22.89. So a close one though. Uh, so in the twenties,
01:29:43
Speaker
Um, so I'll, I'll, I'll take, I'll say what Notre Dame. Okay. Who beat Notre Dame earlier this season? Northern Illinois. They have the fifth ranked defense in the country. Do you know who the number two defense in the country is? Who? No. Indiana. Give me the Hoosiers in this one. That said, I'm going to give you, I'm going to hit you with some fun facts. I told you, I had some fun facts for the potential, you know, yeah as the segue into the the preview episode.
01:30:12
Speaker
Let's go. Um, I personally have, uh, much like coach Trill, I personally have a family connection to Indiana that we will hopefully be able to get to in the, the preview episode when we play Indiana. Um, the Hoosiers have not won in South Bend since 1898. Wow. Wow. They have never, they have never beaten.
01:30:38
Speaker
Notre Dame at home since then. Um, I went through and looked, so like that was where the fun facts came from. Jim was, I wanted to see like what the, what the record was here. Um, and it was five wins and 23 losses and one tie. Um, Indiana does not have a very good record here and that sets up very nicely for Mr. Google me himself. Um,
01:31:04
Speaker
For him to be the hero of Indiana, I feel like that they're very motivated. The prices of this game indicate that they're very motivated. We took over Notre Dame stadium. Um, I have a feeling that, that there's going to be a lot of whatever color of red it is that Indiana has. Is it crimson? Yeah. crimson green Yeah. So anyway, um.
01:31:25
Speaker
Yeah, give me Indiana and this one, dude. um They lost, an if you've if you've lost in Northern Illinois, um you deserve to not be in the playoff, but whatever. I agree with that. Jim has a red and black issue from January 2nd of 1981 laying around of when Georgia beat Notre Dame for the Natty, and he just wants a second copy of that. So that's, I think, why a little bit of his nostalgic is coming out.
01:31:53
Speaker
There is, there is a little something about a sugar bowl against Notre Dame. Like, that exactly like not going to lie. Georgia and the sugar bowl would be great, yeah but nord did Notre Dame, Indiana in the sugar bowl, and in my opinion, as a you know classic sugar bowl, it's a sugar bowl. So here we are. just ah Just to paint the historical picture here, because I actually was surprised that they haven't played each other nearly as much, which is another indicator of why the prices are what they are. Yeah.
01:32:22
Speaker
Notre Dame and Indiana have not played each other since 1991. Oh, wow. Yeah. um Prior to that, they hadn't played since 1958, which at that point, I guess that they played more regularly because they played basically, you know, every year, or every other year or so um going all the way back to the the going all the way back to the 1900s and 1800s. Yeah, 1898, like it goes, like they play every few years going all the way back to 1898. So this is one of those, like, I don't know what happened. Maybe it just Notre Dame decided that they that they weren't a a rival and decided to start playing service academies when the service academies were good. I don't know. um They picked up Purdue and said, this is our new rivalry and in state.
01:33:11
Speaker
But they haven't played each other since 1991 and they hadn't played each other prior to that since 1958. So I'm sure that there's a lot of state pride that's in on. I mean, can you just imagine not playing like Georgia tech or something like that for 10 years. That is a long time. That is a long time. Yeah, dude, did that I am, I'm excited for that one. Uh, we've been, and Lily and I have been talking about, uh, like we're ready for Friday night to sit down and watch and do some scouting, uh, scout, scout the opponent. Um, and this one does feel like, like of the other ones, like you're looking at the low get in prices, like this one with this, the skyrocket skyrocketing ticket prices. Like this is what you want to see like in a college football game. So yeah I'm excited about this one.
01:33:55
Speaker
cool yes cool There's the picks and the fun facts. JP, what else do you have to to round us out? I have another fun fact. I'm going to tie it back to the Christmas theme of our episode. um and It does have to do with the state of Indiana. um There is a city in the state of Indiana that celebrates Christmas 365 days a year. I know what you're talking about, but let's go. there is a city I should know about this.
01:34:22
Speaker
There

Indiana Culture and Traditions

01:34:23
Speaker
is a city in Indiana called Santa Claus, Indiana, and they celebrate Christmas year round. You probably have a little bit more fun facts other than my just generic like, you know, searching and stuff. I do have another fun fact, but I want to, I want to, I also want to measure that against your, your Indiana knowledge to see if it's actually correct, because I was a little sus.
01:34:45
Speaker
But get hit me hit me with the Santa Claus. like what's what's what's your What's your take on Santa Claus, Indiana? John, in my research studies and travels through Indiana, my my conclusions of Santa Claus, Indiana have ended at Google Maps. great Okay.
01:35:04
Speaker
I didn't know if your wife i didn't if yourre if your wife and or your girlfriend had said anything about it. like No. has she ever Have she ever been to she Santa Claus? I don't know. it sounds it sounds like I honestly haven't asked. On the way up, she did a lot of the driving in Indiana. like I drove us pretty much from Tennessee through Ohio into the state of Indiana. And then on the way back, like you know she slept in the car for a little bit of the drive in the morning. So we didn't get to Santa Claus, Indiana at that point.
01:35:34
Speaker
put it that way got it got got it Uh, the other thing that I wanted to measure again, this is your Indiana knowledge. Um, if you were looking to cook something, uh, have you, have you heard of sugar cream pie? Apparently, apparently this is a Hoosier, this is a Hoosier, uh, like staple around the holidays is sugar cream pie, which Put to be honest, looks really phenomenal. I it just googled it and it does look good. Also, if that way. you type in, I typed in sugar cream and an auto-filled sugar cream pie, Indiana. Yes.
01:36:05
Speaker
Yeah, it's like an Indiana thing. Oh, it does. i'm I'm on board. I'm on board with that in a glass of bourbon. Like sign me up for that on Friday night. It also is super easy. Absolutely. A thousand percent.
01:36:18
Speaker
Uh, all right. If Indiana wins this game, uh, I feel like we need to learn how to make this pie, uh, for like, for like new year's Eve or something, uh, heading yeah into the sugar bowl, a hundred, a hundred percent. It's definitely, it's definitely going to happen because du I'm, I'm all about it. I'm sugar bowl, sugar cream pie. I feel like the the omens are leading towards Indiana. I'm just saying.
01:36:43
Speaker
Look at the sugar cream pie falling out of the sky.
01:36:49
Speaker
I'm just saying, it sounded phenomenal. Well, and it's interesting, their colors are not just red and white, they're crimson and cream. so Okay. Yeah. Because i I asked my guy, like they both went both Carrie and Dan, they both went to IU and I said, I'll say what's up with the the the pants at the basketball? He goes, and no, no, no. Crimson and cream like pants. I was like, Oh, that so no, they they are very particular about it. But at the same time, like he told me a lot about IU and Bloomington and just the university and the campus.
01:37:23
Speaker
A lot of great traditions, and I will put it this way. The way he explained it, the way he talked about their tailgates, even for football, let alone basketball, was very reminiscent of SEC. Like they get up for basketball, like we get up for SEC football. Like he would tell me like Wednesday night,
01:37:41
Speaker
He said, shoot, we'll skip class, start drinking at six or start six, 10 a.m. You know, game times at six p.m. And he's like, we just start drinking. And I'm like, wow, it sounds like it's easy football, except ours are on Saturdays. So we don't have class. But here we are. Right. Right.
01:37:59
Speaker
Could be, could be, could, that, that would be an interesting matchup. but It would also be the matchup of, uh, the schools who had Tom Kreen, uh, do not great things to their basketball programs. Exactly. Schools don't cheat Tom Kreen and trust me, they hate Tom Kreen. Oh yeah.
01:38:14
Speaker
but yeah Yeah. Coach, I've got an over-under for you. we Oh, hold on. I'm taking a back. Hold on, hold on, hold on, hold on. Oh my god! My god, a freshman. Trying to put glasses on. Ladies and gentlemen, brother.
01:38:39
Speaker
All right, John, now you can do that. Amazing. ah I didn't even mean to do that. All right. So over, under number of times, the broadcast crew plays Crimson and Clover this Friday. Line is set at point five. Wait, what was it set at? I'm sorry. Point five.
01:38:58
Speaker
Oh, over hit it. Hit it. Hit it. Just smash it. it If it's at least once, absolutely smash that. Smash it. Who is broadcasting that game by the way? Is it NBC? Or is it going to be at this point Charles Barkley?
01:39:15
Speaker
shaq and like some random duo think it's abc the friday night game yeah right

Media Coverage and Holiday Wishes

01:39:21
Speaker
the friday night game is abc it's the just the early games on saturday but you know i don't even honestly i don't know i don't know who the crew is um like i don't know that it's like fowler or whatever i' not sure which one they're going to be at I did see the TNT has, has some like their, their desk. Um, like it's not going to be like Kenny and i got it or whatever, but it's like chant Bailey is going to be part of the TNT stuff. I think I saw that. So Indiana Notre Dame is going to be Sean McDonough and Greg McElroy. Nice.
01:39:52
Speaker
then you have Clemson and Texas is going to be, oh, so here we go. TNT has pretty much given ESPN the rights to broadcast it. However, they have their name on it. So Clemson at Texas is Dave Pash and Dusty Dvorchak. Okay.
01:40:09
Speaker
Tennessee, Ohio State is Chris Fowler and Kirk Herbstreet. Okay. Of course. SMU and Penn State, Mark Jones and Roddy Jones. So there we go. Interesting. Okay. So even though it's on TNT, they're using yeah ESPN commentators. Gotcha. I know. Yes. Fowler and Herbstreet will do Tennessee, Ohio State, McDonough and McRoy will do Indiana Notre Dame.
01:40:31
Speaker
they're also doing a lot of like multicast things. So like, I think like the hometown call and like stuff like that. So like, um I know like on the TNT games, it'll be like across the TNT network. So there's gonna be like the games on TNT, but it's also been like TM TBS and like on max or whatever for like different views of it or whatever. So So it's like March Madness tournament where you get games on TruTV and people wonder what TruTV is. It is going to be, yeah, I think TruTV is as well. Is it going to update, is it going to interrupt the SVU reruns? I was about to say law and order special victims unit. Like you better give me Olivia Benson and Elliot Stabler or death. I'm just kidding. Right.
01:41:10
Speaker
Uh, amazing criminal justice system. I'm not even going to get into it. Sorry. Not this dude. I love, I love, uh, I love law and order. So that's okay. it's good Hey, off the rails as we knew it would be.
01:41:21
Speaker
Who knew we would throw in a law and in the middle of talking about Indiana and Notre Dame. Yeah, I didn't see that one coming. I did, that did not have that in big of a card. Well, hey, another Christmas regale in the books. Absolutely. so Yes. we We're, we're going to pour one out for John who wasn't able to make it tonight.
01:41:41
Speaker
Yeah, but it was good. It was good. It was good catching up. It was good having fun. um appreciate Appreciate all you do for us this year, Coach Trail. Absolutely. We will be back. We will be back next next week, Jim. Yeah, we have to figure out.
01:41:57
Speaker
and we we we There will be a a Sugar Bowl preview episode. ah We had to figure it out ah with Christmas and all the fun stuff, but in in the works, it will be out in plenty of time to listen to it. And we'll solicit questions so you'll know. You'll know when it's coming. of for your viewers I just have to say it's funny how literally I find out about when the preview episode is through Twitter and it's so funny because I have like I just draft it like I'll put in my drafts on Twitter and then I just copy and paste it and send it out the day of so and
01:42:34
Speaker
the easiest system for me and in a google spreadsheet or google sheet and it's so like for anybody that wants a class in excel hit me up in the dms because i got you on google sheets i got you on excel and i got you on the scc score gami stuff and all that but at the same time fellas, it is my pleasure. I love doing it. It is truly one of the things that brings me joy. My girlfriend has gotten to know over the course of the season, she's like, Oh, Sunday, we'll go, we go to wall files every Sunday. And then we come back. She's like, I, she just takes a nap on the couch with me while we watch a little bit of NFL. And then I do all the stuff for the podcast. I do all the stuff for the podcast, all the Skorgami stuff, and I send it to you. And she is the funniest thing because she's like, Oh, you got your football stuff to do.
01:43:22
Speaker
And then, and then, and then our, then our groups, group sex starts popping with like jokes about how we're bad at picking stuff and stuff. And I'll put it this way. The only thing that's this year in here, I got to go on the record and say this, my, my over unders have been solid. I remember 2022 for the Tennessee game. I said Stetson would have 275 passing yards and he had to set the line at two 75. He hit two 74.
01:43:49
Speaker
next last year and John mocked me. He said, oh, that won't score ten. I said it at nine and a half or ten and a half or something indeed and hit ten and I was like, I knew it. I knew it and the funniest thing I texted and I was like, I'm not going to text John because he's pissed about the game because it wasn't going our way but I will say this nonetheless, give you guys the game pickums this year and the overunders throughout the past three years.
01:44:19
Speaker
one of the best things I do, one of my most absolute loved and favorite things I do. So I'm here for you guys always. Love it. You guys are great friends. You guys are great people. And for that, I wish you both in your families a Merry Christmas always. Love you guys as great dear friends of mine. Love it, Coach. Love it. Love it, Coach. Yes. Merry Christmas to you and yours. Thank you. Thank you for your service, sir. Yes, sir. That's amazing. What's your Waffle House order?
01:44:48
Speaker
Okay, all right, so. You go every Sunday, you gotta. I was about to say, two eggs, scrambled cheese, toast, white toast, double order hash brown, scattered smothered covered chunk, and at times, all right, I may get grits in a bowl, I may not. My girlfriend always gets a double order hash brown, scattered smothered covered chunk, but she does Tabasco and ketchup, and also gets a waffle, white waffle. Killer, that's a killer. Her order, solid, my order,
01:45:18
Speaker
it's been the same order for oh my gosh going on like 25 years so nice amazing give me give me an all-star all-star scrambled scatter bacon all right fine well we're doing that's where you got to go well we're going patty melt plate uh hash brown scattered smothered covered in ah in a vanilla coke o chi vanilla like
01:45:42
Speaker
Give me that fancy coke. That's right. but Jim only goes to the coat where the where they had the coke freestyle machine or the wall balls with the coke freestyle. Excuse me, sir. Did you pour the coke? I need you to give me a couple of pumps of vanilla, please. Yeah, yeah and they because they they do it. They do it for you. You don't even need the freestyle.
01:45:58
Speaker
Yeah. Oh, awesome, man. This has been great. This has been great. We didn't have any diehard comments, but I did have diehard. Now I have a machine gun. you know me guys I'm a home alone guy. So very good.
01:46:12
Speaker
Hey, I'm repping my home. I'm repping a new home field t-shirt. Uh, use the code hunkered down for 20 or 50% off your first order. Jim has every t-shirt home field has ever put out for UGA just in every, my kid my kids, my kids called Jim. I still don't know. They called Jim to to get advice for what to get me. I had already told them like, get me, get me Georgia t-shirts. Cause I feel I have t-shirt, I have t-shirt envy from from Mr. Jim. And they're like, well, can we call him Mr. Jim?
01:46:42
Speaker
we yeah we're i we i'm I'm withholding. ah There's going to be a Christmas review um conversation and I'll divulge ah the conversation. I will just say that like it was like incredible. it was like so I had so much fun and like Kim was like, who are you talking to? It was it was it was great it was great. I had a blast. I'll go over that conversation in further detail. ah in a future episode. Awesome. Well, appreciate you boys. We guys have a very Merry Christmas and go dogs. Absolutely. So YouTube, go dogs. Merry Christmas. Go dogs.
