not our last game of the season as uh as it is as it were true there is another game actually on the schedule uh now after our wild saturday night everyone else's wild saturday night i guess not so much ours what were they calling it they called it like chaos saturday of chaos or something like that i don't know that you could come up with a name to do justice to what happened yes They usually say like, you know, like separation Sunday or whatever. Mm. Yeah. Yeah. Separation Saturday. Although this was Saturday. It was supposed to be like Cupcake Week last week. This is rev this is rivalry week. Last week was supposed to be is usually kind of not much going on. So yeah, we were told we were told that the SEC is boring.
00:01:32
Speaker
Yeah. Yeah. But we do have a game this week, Jim. A game this

Rivalry Insights: Georgia vs. Georgia Tech

00:01:37
Speaker
week. Yes. i believe I believe that the nerds from the North Avenue Trade School are coming into town and bringing their stink with them. Yeah. Yeah. Clean, old-fashioned hate.
00:01:49
Speaker
ah you know i yeah I feel like um we'll probably have to like explain to like Yara, for example, of like why this is a big deal. And maybe we can get into that a little bit later. but ah I'll just start off by saying this, this game is always, um, it's always a big one for me. Uh, I know we talked about this when we had Nathan and Yaron, like when I got to Georgia in 1998, like they beat us the first three years I was in college. Um, and the first, the first two were like excruciating last second deals with a, I'll just say questionable call in both.
00:02:27
Speaker
One, both bad calls, both bad calls, basically lost in a bad call two years in a row. And then we got actually absolutely stumped my, my third year in college. So, um, I'll never forget that. And that's where I've been, you know started saying right up, right off the bat Saturday after, after the UMass game was over, like protect the hedges. Um, this is a game where when they beat us in Athens, they will go down.
00:02:51
Speaker
The fans will run down to the, to the hedges. The team will run over the hedges. They will tear up the hedges so and they will pose with pictures with them. So, uh, we do not want to see that happen on Saturday night. So, uh, we got all, all bring your energy and bring the best out there on the um black Friday.
00:03:08
Speaker
Yes. time to go It's time to go protect the hedges. um and Making an impact on the game, dog fans. I know that there's a lot of consternation, even in the wood household, on on what you're going to wear, what what what we should wear.
00:03:26
Speaker
I know that I've already instructed Wise Dog asked, you know, he's not really sure what what color to wear this weekend. And I advised him that it is Black Friday. And it makes obvious sense for us to wear black on Black Friday.
00:03:41
Speaker
Yeah, I agree. I was always a proponent of that. I actually, and I've told you this, I can't, I can't even remember if we talked about it on the podcast. I was kind of frustrated by the whole blackout Tennessee thing. I did it. Um, but I always felt like this was the game to blackout on, on black Friday. So, but as John Smith told me, what's wrong with two. So I'm on board. Oh yeah. It's not like, it's not like the black is not one of our main colors, Jim. Right. Exactly.
00:04:08
Speaker
And the, you know, the equipment account, which always likes to mess with those fans, but they did have ah care some sort of social Instagram, I think. And they said like, but and it said like Black Friday. Like, here's all the coaches attire. So, yeah, I think it's a blackout. I brought a bourbon. I know I don't believe you did, but always trying to kind of sort of go with the theme. So I brought the I brought a bottle of Yellowstone tonight. Ooh, I like it.
00:04:34
Speaker
Um, so this is a, my local Concord, ABC store pick, uh, single barrel, uh, from 2022. So it's very good. Actually, uh, I like the 20, I like pulling the 2022 vibes into it. Absolutely. Absolutely. Um, I actually had that same bourbon, uh, last night, uh, when Kim and I watched Yellowstone.
00:04:58
Speaker
Hmm. I haven't actually seen it. I need to, I need to catch it up. I feel like without, without the names, like John Dutton in the show, I feel like it's, let's lost a lot of appeal. Yeah. It's a, it's not, it's not the same. It's basically, is you're dead to me. you're dead It's kind of like, it's kind of like, it's almost exactly when, like when Kevin Spacey left house of cards yeah off the rails, uh, when, when Kevin Spacey left house of cards, the show basically died.
00:05:28
Speaker
I don't think I actually finished the last season of that. I never finished it either. Yeah. I agree. I agree with you. Yeah. Freaking awful. Killed an amazing show. All right. We'll bring it back. on sun pick Okay. Yeah. Yeah. No, it's a good, it's a good bourbon. Um, I, I enjoy this one, especially this one, this, uh, the store pick a buddy of mine had got it, uh, at some point and I had to go grab one because this was very good. Uh, if I did, if I did have the a bourbon, um,
00:05:55
Speaker
I would and would be bringing the store pick that I told you in the and text thread about. um I will be bringing it to Athens with me, so we will definitely be sampling um the hop screen in Vine. Shout out to Steven Yee. He has a wonderful store pick.
00:06:15
Speaker
Um, that is a petite charade, um, finished high, high West bourbon. Um, and it's got such a rich color to it from the, from the finish and the flavor profile that I can describe is John likes to say that the midwinter's dram is like Christmas in a bottle. That is a rye whiskey. And I believe it's finished in port barrels.
00:06:42
Speaker
um for the Midwinter's Dram folks out there. This, in my opinion, is a poor man's Midwinter's Dram, and it's a bourbon. So it tastes like bourbon Christmas in a bottle.
00:06:58
Speaker
Gotcha. Gotcha. Nice. Nice. All right. I'll bring us back on the rails and jump into the matchup after a quick reminder about our friends over at home field apparel. We've still got a relationship over there and wanted to make sure everyone is aware of the black Friday deal they've got going on from now through December 2nd. Just head over to homefield.mygottapodcast.com and then use the code BFCM24 for 30% off your entire order. So if you want to get in some early Christmas shopping, no better place to do it than over with home field apparel. The game is on Friday. ah Friday game. I saw ah someone on Twitter today saying they didn't realize the game was on Friday. I'm hoping that was a joke.
00:07:40

um Games, Friday night, Black Friday, 7.30

Team Rankings and Game Coverage

00:07:44
Speaker
p.m. at Sanford Stadium. Dogs come in, nine and two overall, six and two in the SEC. Georgia Tech comes into this game seven and four, five and three in the ACC. ah The dogs are ranked number six in the coaches and AP polls. We're recording Monday, no playoff pull out yet this week. um Expect the dogs to move up ah based on last week's results. ah Georgia Tech is not ranked.
00:08:09
Speaker
The game is on ABC Friday night um with the crew of Joe Tessator, Jesse Palmer, and Katie George. And the official hashtag is hashtag GT versus UGA. All time series the dogs leave this one 71 39 to five. um Tech would say it's 71 41 and five. I believe there are two games that we do not honor So this this one fits all the criteria, John. ah We disagree about the the series history. It's got a name, ah clean' have clean old fashioned hate. So definitely a rivalry game. Last meeting, the dogs won in Atlanta, 31 to 23. So that was a bit of a tight one last year.
00:08:50
Speaker
Weather looks pretty good, um like clear, at least. um Define pretty good, Jim. Yeah. I mean, you know, for this time of year, at least, um, no like wintery weather or wintery, no precipitation, no precipitation. Yeah. So I'm going to rain anything like that. But yeah, 56 is the high 30 is the low. Um, so yeah, bring, uh, bring your stadium blanket. Less you have to buy one in the stadium. Like we did that one time.
00:09:20
Speaker
I know you were saying there were swirling winds last week, so I would imagine at night could potentially see some of that come into play as well. Yeah, there there the the winds were definitely swirling. um we're We're still early in the week here, but they the winds have been swirling a little bit in Marietta, but can't really speak to what's going on in Athens. But um what I will say is that the temperature is going to be dropping from you know a warmer temperature to a lower temperature, which tends to not bode well for the wins in Athens. Got it. Got it. All right. Do you want to hit us with any fun facts before we get into the ah history? ah Yeah. We could get into some fun facts. um Jim, do you have any fun facts? I mean, you're you have been around these guys as long as I have. So I'm curious if you have any fun facts as well.
00:10:09
Speaker
Um, I have, there's no fun. When I think of these guys, there are, there is zero fun, zero fun, zero fun, sir. Okay. So let's go with, uh, name origins of yellow jackets. Right. So when you, when you think of them, the reason that they're called yellow jackets is because back in the day, uh, they,
00:10:36
Speaker
In all of their genius they chose colors that they couldn't actually wear Golden like the gold color was not something that you could actually like, you know find so they had to change their They had to change their colors to yellow because the the gold fabric for jerseys was just didn't exist. So they wore yellow jerseys and John John Heisman told John Heisman actually made the name Yellow Jackets. um It was not a, like, you know, a reporter came up with it himself. John Heisman told the Atlanta Journal, at the time it was the Atlanta Constitution, that he wanted his his teams to be referred to as the Yellow Jackets.
00:11:21
Speaker
That was in October of 1905. And then then in 1906, the Atlanta Journal portrayed a UGA football player being attacked by a yellow jacket with the words, somebody's about to get stung as the caption. um And that was the first time that the Georgia Tech sports teams were referred to as the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets in print. So the first time that the origin of that came around was 1906, but it goes back to John Heisman in 1905 that basically asked for his team to be called the Yellow Jackets. yeah I guess that, you know, to a certain extent, the the the writers
00:12:02
Speaker
um added the the color around being stung. So that's that's kind of where the the mascot history kind of comes from, the yellow jacket. um Interestingly, over over the years, there have been some um there've been some some interesting stories with with buzz. um In 1998, Georgia Tech actually filed a trademark infringement against a Salt Lake City ah It's a Salt Lake City, I think it was a a baseball team. um the salt lake The Salt Lake Buzz, um basically what happened is the the the minor league baseball team had negotiated with Georgia Tech to use the the likeness of Buzz as their as their team mascot, and they had a deal all set up. But Georgia Tech backed out of the agreement before it was finalized.
00:12:58
Speaker
And then they immediately sued Utah. They they filed a suit in Utah um against them. um But yeah, the Georgia Tech basically won. They won that deal in 2001. And as a resort, they forced they were forced to change the the baseball team name to the Stingers. So the Salt Lake Stingers.
00:13:20
Speaker
are called that, um and then eventually they would become the Salt Lake Bees. um Sounds like something Tech would do, by the way. Yeah. basically like Basically, they had to pay Georgia Tech $600,000, but Georgia Tech spent $800,000 disputing this. Interesting.
00:13:39
Speaker
So they lost, they lost money disputing the the buzz situation with this minor league baseball team. Um, so yeah, they deserve all the pettiness that they can get because as you know, Jim, the, the logos are for the UGA per UGA are used all over the place.
00:13:57
Speaker
Right, right. Yeah, true. Particularly the Bulldog Bold. Let's see here some other interesting things about the Yellow Jacket that I didn't realize. So I should say buzz is the is the mascot. um There are some requirements, which I'm guessing is probably increasingly becoming difficult amongst the nerds that they have there.
00:14:20
Speaker
um So they have to be in excellent physical condition. They have height requirements. They have to be around five feet, four inches tall, and they have to be able to do a suicide flip, which is Buzz's signature trademark move.
00:14:36
Speaker
okay um called the buzz flip um so anyway the that's basically how they determine you have to be of a certain size and you have to be able to flip which i thought was kind of interesting um but yeah um i imagine that that's probably increasingly difficult to find able to do right what what is a suicide flip uh i believe is it a back flip i believe it's the Uh, you know what? I honestly don't know. Um, sorry, I shouldn't have asked these things. Yeah. I honestly don't know. It's a front suicide flip. Okay. So say a front flip. Okay. Yeah. I'm not really sure what that means. Um, I know that they often refer to suicide as like, you can't see when you're, where you're going to land. Yeah. Yeah. I feel like that that's a gymnastics term that I've heard.
00:15:27
Speaker
Um, but anyway, uh, if you know what a suicide flip is, you can, you can comment on the, on the review post or the preview post. Um, let's see here. That's that that's kind of the story, uh, on buzz, but basically he was invented in 1979 and they've had a bunch of, of hijinks ever since. Um, he's quite the prankster. He actually speaks in, um, sign language and gestures.
00:15:54
Speaker
Um, so I guess that Buzz actually knows sign language, which I thought was pretty cool. and Um, but he can still suck it. And I definitely would tip him over in a porta potty for sure. Um, let's see here. What other fun facts do we have Jim? Um, they're very famous for their astronauts. Um, uh, the Huggins clan was telling me about a ah sign that they had at at one of the games that they went to, uh, where they were trying to talk smack and it was like Georgia tech astronauts, 14 UGA zero. And the and we we all kind of, we all kind of chuckled at that. Like that's pretty good. That's pretty good. Um, but, uh, but yeah, they've got a lot of astronauts in their, in their alumni base. They've got a lot of, you know, founders and CEOs, the founder of MailChimp. Um, if you were, if you're familiar with MailChimp,
00:16:47
Speaker
This is Georgia Tech alumni. um There's Delta CEOs. there's Waffle House is obviously a big ah big one as well. Several CEOs from Waffle House. And then another big one, which mini many Georgia you know folks will will recognize the name George W. Woodruff, famous of the Woodruff Art Center, for example.
00:17:14
Speaker
Um, he was a big, he was a big, uh, donor at Georgia Tech and Emory University. Um, but yeah, he was, he was an alumnus. Um, I believe Jim that we, we were talking about this before, but when I was doing the research for this, we came across an odd name that stuck out like a sore throat.
00:17:33
Speaker
And I feel like it deserves mention and a bit of, a bit of a chat through, uh, Jeff Foxworthy is, is listed as an alumni, which is interesting because Jeff Foxworthy was a guest picker for UGA on, on game day, which just goes to show you that whoever's picking college game day pickers sucks.
00:17:52
Speaker
Yeah, so I don't know exactly what's going on with that. I do remember like when he was announced as the game day picker, I remember some people saying like a tech guy, like why is a tech guy the game they picker for a Georgia game? But so, yeah, I don't know. It appears to be a Georgia fan, at least now. And I think through our quick research, he appears to be in the attended category. Didn't graduate from tech. So I don't know. I don't I don't know how much backstory there. I think I remember like Tony Waller made a big deal about it when they made a, maybe big is too much, but made comment on it when he was announced as the game day picker at one time. So um maybe Tony knows. I don't have the whole backstory. Definitely weird. Yeah. I'm sure that somebody, I'm sure that somebody can, can educate us on the, on the, on the details there. But yeah, I would file that under also um Jimmy Carter as a, and also went to, but didn't graduate.
00:18:47
Speaker
Um, he's listed on there. Um, yeah, ah there's really not a whole lot of folks that I feel like that everybody'd be like, Oh wow, that's interesting. You know, yeah I didn't know he went there. Um, you know, there's obviously baseball players and things like that, but, um, no, like, you know, famous actresses or anything like that. Um, that stick out to me, maybe they would stick out to you if we're forgetting someone, um, maybe you can, uh, can let us know.
00:19:15
Speaker
But um oh, famous alumni. ah there There are some fictional famous alumni. And I thought this was kind of funny. There's a fictional character in the G.I. Joe, the real American hero toy toy line. His name is Grunt. And he was he in his story background was got his engineering degree from Georgia Tech, which I thought was kind of funny. That is funny. I did that. OK.
00:19:42
Speaker
The first two engineers that received their degrees in 1890 had to actually, they they they did a coin toss to decide which man would have the honor of receiving the first degree, which is also kind of funny. um Oh yeah, Bobby Jones, I guess that's another um it's another famous alumni that we probably should have mentioned. um He was a mechanical engineering graduate in 1922, the Bobby Jones of famous golf lore. One of the greatest golfers in history. um Another interesting fun fact, the the very in 1896, the very first facilities for housing for engineering students was called the Shacks, which is kind of funny because in you know where they're they're so well known for being an engineering school. they're built
00:20:32
Speaker
These buildings were built with no running water, electricity or kitchens. So really they were affectionately referred to as the the Shacks. That's what they engineer there. Yes.
00:20:45
Speaker
Um, which I guess is kind of funny because it kind of ties to the Ramblin' Wreck, like we're literally, you know, named for this jalopy. Um, yeah. Um, yeah. So they've got the Ramblin' Wreck fight song. Um, it's, it's, so the name Ramblin' Wreck was accepted and gained widespread acceptance in the 1920s when Georgia Tech graduates began building makeshift mechanical buggies to improve a poor transportation system in South America. And I believe that that um i believe that that is when they were doing the pan Panama Canal, if I remember correctly. I believe that that was something that we had talked about in the in the previous lore. But yeah, the song
00:21:35
Speaker
Ramblin' Wreck was inspired by the old full-valid The Sons of the Gamble Years, which will probably sound familiar to the Ramblin' Wreck song itself. The Ramblin' Wreck itself um is a 1930 Ford Model A, and it was donated to Georgia Tech in 1961 by Captain Ted Johnson. um He was a retired pilot that purchased and restored the car. um The official Ramblin' Wreck is on the field at the home games.
00:22:03
Speaker
And they actually bought a second one and restored it. The alumni association did in the 1980s and they use it at a different events. And then a third one was purchased and restored, I guess, so that they had, you know, multiple ones because I know that one of them at least got wrecked on the side of the road and some folks took some pictures of it not too long ago. I remember when we, was that when when we were in college, Jim? Like someone had pictures of of the Ramblin' Rackley just completely trashed because they knocked it over.
00:22:33
Speaker
I think so. I like, yeah, I'm pretty sure it was like later in college. Yeah. The other fun facts. So it's called the whistle. um there There's a whistle that they came to the Georgia Tech in 1896. It's a steam whistle.
00:22:50
Speaker
That's supposed to mimic the industrial whistles of the times from the 1896 time period that is what's called that's what's calling students to their to their classes and today on the on the campus of Georgia Tech, it is unsurprisingly.
00:23:08
Speaker
nerded out, um, and operated by a computerized atomic clock that releases the steam. The whistle blows five minutes to the hour to end classes on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Um, and has a different schedule on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Um, but then it also blows after Georgia tech scores touchdowns during home games. No, your phone.
00:23:33
Speaker
Yeah, I don't remember. Interesting. Cool. Yeah. Found it in 1885. Pretty old. Yeah. But yeah. North Avenue Trade School. North Avenue Trade School. There you have it. There you have it.
00:23:45
Speaker
Yeah, no, I love the like, do you have any fun facts? so I don't really. I don't really. I will say just like like personally, like, you know, had had connections. You know, grandfather went there. Uncle went there. ah Best friend in high school went there. um So I do have a lot of friends ah that attended, but um I guess that's where the whole clean of the clean old fashioned hate comes from. So it's a family affair. It is a family affair.
00:24:14
Speaker
All right, let's, uh, let's hit hasty's hardware history.
00:24:35
Speaker
Alright, my friend Jason in Hasty over at the Hargrit Library ah sends us in his Hasty's Hargrit history every week. And so always if you're in town, be sure to head over by the Hargrit Library and Jason will show you around all the athletic archives.
00:24:51
Speaker
We did get word back. They are not open on Friday. We had discussed that I think last week. Would the Harvard library be open on Friday of the tech game? They will not. This campus is closed in general. So we'll not be open this Friday, but generally open on Friday for a tour of the current exhibit. So all right. yeah JP, were you going to do this one or did you want me to? I'll read it. Go for it.
00:25:14
Speaker
Each November, the winner of the clean, old-fashioned hate matchup between Georgia and Georgia Tech receives the Governor's Cup trophy. While this trophy might not seem to compare to the more famous rivalry game trophies such as the Little Brown Jog, which is the Minnesota-Michigan rivalry,
00:25:31
Speaker
or the old Oaken Bucket, Indiana Purdue. The Governor's Cup has a history that dates back to 1933. And it's a history that both Georgia and Georgia Tech can be proud of. during Starting in the 1920s, freshmen were not eligible to play varsity sports.
00:25:48
Speaker
Freshmen were allowed to practice with the varsity, but they were assigned to their own teams to play limited schedules against freshmen teams from other schools. These games were usually very small affairs with very few fans in attendance. At Georgia, the freshman football team was called the bullpups. At Georgia Tech, they were the baby jackets. Are are we certain that that's not what they're called today? and we can we get a fund Can we get a fact check? Fact check.
00:26:16
Speaker
In 1933, Georgia Tech's head coach William Alexander and Georges Hermann Steggen worked together to get a backing for a charity football game to benefit Scottish Rite Hospital for Crippled Children in Decatur. The Scottish Rite Hospital was supported by a name for the Scottish Rite Freemasons. Did not know that. The game was to be an annual Thanksgiving Day matchup between the bullpups and the baby jackets. Georgia Tech graciously offered to use the the use of Grant Field for the game and all proceeds were to be given to the hospital. The game's motto was strong lags will run so that weak legs may walk. The game quickly became an Atlanta tradition and was a major event during the football season. Played on Grant Field every year from 1933 through 1993 with the exception of 1943 and 1944.
00:27:12
Speaker
The game attracted large crowds on several occasions, even drew more fans than the game between the Georgia and Georgia Tech varsity teams. Freshman ineligibility was ended by the NCAA in 1972, but the game didn't stop. College programs placed freshmen on junior varsity teams to get more experience. The Georgia and Georgia Tech JV teams continued to meet on Thanksgiving until 1993. By that point, the JV teams were no longer needed and they were disbanded.
00:27:42
Speaker
After the game ended in 1993, Children's Healthcare of Atlanta, which formed from a merger of the Scottish Rite and Eggleston Children's Hospitals, began awarding the Governor's Cup to the winner of clean, old-fashioned hate in honor of their long-standing relationship with the schools. Annually, players from Georgia and Georgia Tech will visit Children's Healthcare of Atlanta to meet and spend time with the kids who are in the hospital, just as the Georgia and Georgia Tech's freshman teams did for so many decades. Georgia Tech led the freshman game series with 30 wins to Georgia's 28 loss. There was one tie.
00:28:16
Speaker
This is a series, though, that meant so much more than the score on the field. It was a chance for fans to see the future stars of their teams, a chance for young players to get their first, and in many cases, only taste of playing in a big time college atmosphere game, and a chance for strong legs to run so that weak legs could walk.
00:28:35
Speaker
Yeah, I mean, I definitely remember this game as a kid. And we we went like I remember going at least once. Man, I I have no I have no concept of this game. Didn't even know it was the thing. Oh, yeah. So somewhere. And I at one point today, I thought when I read this with Jason Senate, I was like, Oh, I need to go grab it. I've got a program to one. I'm sure you have a program. I've got a written black article. I've got a program from like 1990 or something like that. Yes. From this game. Yes. Yeah.
00:29:04
Speaker
Yeah, totally have that um and then also if you're watching on youtube, you know been been flashing a few things um And a couple of them so there's a couple of governor's cup trophies um And so some additional notes from jason. So basically when when rick ah Left Georgia will say a couple of governor's cups that were they get awarded to the head coach um Came over to the Harvard library. So we've got some some pictures of those. It's pretty cool. It has like, you know, it says um The Children's Hospital on there presented to the coach as a coach's name in the year in the score
00:29:39
Speaker
Um included in here a shout out, uh, 51 to seven gata for the twitter twitter handle that score is on here from the 2002 trophy. Um, but the other cool thing is on the backside of the governor's cup, uh, it lists out all the seniors, uh, from the team. Uh, so that's pretty cool. So show that off a little bit as well. I wonder how many of those trophies have Rambo on the back of them. Yeah. I mean, but you all, all time name, for sure. Uh,
00:30:07
Speaker
All right. Well, like we said, um, you know, always, uh, appreciate Jason. And, uh, if you're interested, definitely go stop by the Hargardt library and check it out. Uh, he's got amazing artifacts there. Uh, had, uh, an absolute blast one when we went, when when we were able to make it over the last year. So a lot of fun.
00:30:25
Speaker
It is amazing. And if you are a person that is staying in town and the lead up, although this, I guess this week is probably a bad week to do that. Right. yeah I don't know if they're open or not. I know they're probably not open on Thanksgiving. But yeah, if you if you're staying in town ahead of time, because I say this because I'm hitting, I'm i'm slapping myself because I was so busy last week. I totally forgot to tell my buddy to go and check out the Hargroet library. Um, when he was staying, when he was staying on campus, when he was staying in Athens, got I was like, Oh my gosh, totally if you're forgot. That's funny.
00:31:01
Speaker
So if you're staying in Athens the night before the game, go over the day before the game, go, go and check it out. Yeah. Yeah. All right. A couple of news and notes, um, McCurvey's press conference today.

Player Injury Updates and Game Participation

00:31:13
Speaker
Um, so Kristen Miller, um, you know, was injured in the UMass game from what I've heard that he did not say this, but from what I've heard it, it sounds like he dislocated his shoulder and they popped it back in. Uh, so that sounds very painful.
00:31:27
Speaker
Um, but Kirby said he's banged up, didn't do much yesterday. Don't know what he'll be able to do today. Uh, so they're trying to assess. So, um, my guess would be he, Kristen Miller would be out for this game, but we will see. Um, and then on Dylan Bell and Anthony Evans, uh, a little bit more, uh, positive. So they both did some stuff yesterday, uh, and worked out. So we'll see. I didn't see any like hopeful cause of death on those guys. So, um, I guess that's the least positive. He's catching on to us.
00:31:57
Speaker
Yeah, yeah. All right, let's talk about the game. So Georgia Tech head coach Brent Key, he's been there since he was initially the interim in 2022, named interim that season when Guiaph was let go in the middle of the season, then was retained at the end of the season, has been there ever since.
00:32:20
Speaker
Um, played at Georgia tech. Um, so I know the tech folks, uh, are really behind Ranky and, and I love what he's been doing there thus far. Um, so a couple of things, uh, look at some kind of like macro things. So net yards per play tech is at 0.43 net yards for play. Whereas Georgia is 1.39. Um, they are plus three in the turnover margin. Uh, dogs are still even in that category.
00:32:47
Speaker
Um, okay. Let's talk about, uh, what we're looking for when Georgia has the ball. So some kind of key players for Georgia tech on their defense. Uh, number one is Kyle effort. Uh, he's a sophomore linebacker, uh, 61 total tackles. Uh, he's, so he's the leading tackler. He also leads the team with three sacks.
00:33:09
Speaker
um The guy he I don't know if you're familiar with like looking at this guy. He definitely looks like a throwback linebacker like that. You would have seen a Georgia Tech look in the 90s like neck roll at all. um Also, I'll add he should be missing the first half of this game, but he is not. um He was flagged for targeting in their game on Thursday against NC State. But somehow it was overturned on review, so not sure how that happened.
00:33:36
Speaker
um And then EJ lights the sophomore linebacker is their leader in interceptions, or I guess at least tied for the lead but um with one interception. Let's not mistaken, he is a Georgia transfer. um So he transferred from Georgia to Georgia Tech, just FYI.
00:33:56
Speaker
Who was that EJ light? Uh, also Godi is, ah is awesome on this team too. Yeah. I think he's hurt. Uh, okay. Yeah. Did, did confirm EJ. Let's see. What is it? Georgia transfer. He was a Georgia. I think Brett, Brett seether also came from Georgia, right?
00:34:15
Speaker
Yes. Yes. Yes. site there's I think that, uh, yeah, so yeah. I think that there's, you know, there's a couple, there's a couple of guys that I recognize the names for as I was looking through, um, you know, as I was looking through the roster, I was like,
00:34:30
Speaker
That Buster Faulkner taken, taking some of the castaways. Right. Right. Seriously. Um, I did see a name that jumped out on the, on the roster for the offense. Um, there is a guy on the team, Luke, Luke Harper. Is that not familiar? Matt Harper.
00:34:50
Speaker
Matt Harper is on this team. Interesting. I did not know that. Yeah, it was kind of funny. um So we got it. We got a ah question in around related to the offense on what we're looking for. So um Mark Davis wanted to know, has the improved line play coincided with less rotation or finding the best rotation? So I think it's a great question. I think we had kind of talked about looking for both of those in the offensive line. um I'm going to go with best. I think it's finding the best rotation.
00:35:19
Speaker
Um, that's, that's kind of my take. So I don't know. What do you think? Yeah, I think that they've, I think that they've kind of settled on the, the right rotation for best, I guess the different, yeah, for like of a better description. It's the best rotation, the the rotation that gives us the, uh, you know, the highest likelihood of success. Yeah. Yeah.
00:35:39
Speaker
So I don't know, like for me on this offense, like I feel like they've honestly kind of hit the stride of of late. Um, so, you know, it starts with the line. The line has looked much improved. So keeping that good rotation in there. And then, I mean, again, like protect the football. I mean, it's amazing how much better we've looked the last, the last two weeks taking care of the ball. Um, that makes all the difference in the world. So continue to do that. And I, I feel good about.
00:36:09
Speaker
um what our offense can can do against these guys, honestly. It turns out, if you don't turn the ball over, good things happen. Yeah. Yeah. I mean, they're, they're kind of like middle of the pack ish generally on defense, like 41st in total yards. Um, uh, as far as like FBS ranking, they do rank better against the run than against the pass. So, um, definitely could be susceptible to the pass, which I also thought was interesting last weekend's UMass. Like we had talked about like their defense is actually pretty good against the pass and we came out throwing.
00:36:40
Speaker
So, um, we've definitely looked like we kind of want to establish the pass early, maybe to set up the run. Um, so I, I would, I don't know, my guess would be, we'll probably see a bit of that again. And you know, like if it ain't broke, don't fix it, right? Like keep doing the things we've been doing lately that have worked. We were in the pocket around getting back outside, rolling out. Um, that has been successful. So agreed. All right. Um, I don't know. Anything else, anything else you've got on the Georgia offense?
00:37:06
Speaker
Um, running back would probably be, you know, the, the question marks there. I don't care who's, are we going to try to ride Fraser, you know, again, or how many, how much opportunities cash Jones going to get in this game? Um, those kinds of things are, are some things that I'm i'm looking for is, uh, the other thing from the Georgia offensive side, catch the dang ball.
00:37:31
Speaker
i yeah I'm wearing I'm wearing I'm wearing the run the dang ball, but I'm I we need to make a hat and says catch the dang ball Catch the dang ball Bobo. Yeah Other than that like, you know things that I'm looking for, you know Beck was pretty Beck was pretty solid um Other than the one series after halftime in the last game um You know, he's pretty he was pretty adept at finding a and Finding the open receivers, so I like to see that continue as well um Making making the connections when the opportunities are there. Yeah. Yeah, okay Let's see. Let's talk about what we're looking for when Georgia Tech has the ball um So some players to rattle off. So Haynes King is the leading passer 1,670 yards nine touchdowns in a pic. However, he is injured but will still play
00:38:25
Speaker
Um, so and they're running like a true two quarterback system. Um, so Aaron Philo is a freshman quarterback. He is 38 to 74, 565 yards and a touchdown passing, uh, one touchdown and two picks. He is, uh, he owns the Georgia high school record for career passing yards. Um, actually, um, he was, he played at Prince Avenue Christian. Um, so K K can throw the ball. Which is, brought an integrated one, right?
00:38:52
Speaker
I believe so. Yes. Yes. So. um So, yeah. So look for the they're both going to play ah and kind of two quarterback thing they've got going on right now. um Leading rusher is Jamal Haynes. He's a junior 717 yards and 138 carries and nine touchdowns. He's good. um He is good to see him play. um He runs hard. um And then Haynes King is the second leading rusher, 90 carries, 468 yards, eight to eight touchdowns.
00:39:22
Speaker
And then the top two receivers are Eric Singleton, sophomore wide receiver, um, two touchdowns, 668 yards, and then Malik Rutherford, junior wide receiver, 627 yards and three touchdowns. So I know we talked about the quarterbacks a little bit. Um, Jake wanted to know which tech quarterback will get the start and which will be the most effective. And I would say like, I don't know that the start so much really even, even matters. Like they're both going to play. My understanding is with Haynes King, like he has an arm injury.
00:39:51
Speaker
So he can't really throw the deep ball effectively. Um, so he does not play much. He kind of comes in. I guess Fyla will probably start. Um, but, um, Haynes King will play a lot and he'll do a lot of those own read and maybe some short short passes. So I don't, I don't know. I, as far as we'll be the most effective, hopefully neither.
00:40:14
Speaker
um but But I don't even I was trying to think of like what is it better answer that question of which one's more effective I'm really not sure um quarterback run to something that we kind of tend to worry about with our defense, but I'd also rather not have them like airing it out with the other kid. So Not totally sure. Yeah But yeah, so don't. So when they start changing quarterbacks, it's going to happen. So just be prepared for it. And that's the other thing we've joked about the whole backup quarterback thing, right? Like this is a plan. They know what's going to happen. um We're ready for it. They've been they've been doing this for games now at this point. Yeah, seriously. I think that they've they've put some film out there. I'm sure that will.
00:40:53
Speaker
Kirby will have them prepared. So I don't think that this isn't like a, you know, two is coming off the bench kind of situation. We we we kind of and know that this is the game plan that they're going. It's just a matter of, can you can you can you stop it and can you dial up something to to know? ah you You had mentioned something before we were recording about Hayes King and, you know, and like I guess he's,
00:41:14
Speaker
His arm is hurt, so he can't really throw it as deep as the, as the, as the theory that I'm hearing. Is that right? Correct. Yeah. So if he, if he can't throw the ball deep, then I imagine that they're going to dial up something, you know, some pressures and things like that when he's in the game to account for that. Um, the question would be, is, is are they going to rope a dope us, um, into, you know, a false sense of security about that? And then all of a sudden busted out.
00:41:44
Speaker
I like that you have this theory that there's just like, then it's like long con injury going on. Uh, we're all of a sudden hands, King is mad. I mean, it's not so much, it's not so much a long con. It's more so it just, you know, it's kind of like Tate Ratledge in the Florida game versus Tate Ratledge now. Sure. Sure.
00:42:01
Speaker
injury injuries can heal injuries can progressively get better and he could potentially be in ah in a situation where he could throw the ball deeper. Um, unless it's just like a situation where, you know, you you tear your ACL and you can run around still, but you're not quite as effective. If it's something like that, then okay. Yeah. But we don't know. So yeah. Yeah. I, I, I don't, I don't have like the full, I've heard stuff, but I haven't seen anything like official that says what exactly the deal is. Right. So yeah, we'll, we'll watch half of that. But yeah, I mean, you know, dude, it's just like every other game, right? Like line of scrimmage game. Um, but from, you know, but from what I have seen though, like we're going to have to play discipline football with the zone read. Like they run that a lot. And especially when King is in the game. So you've got a.
00:42:49
Speaker
Do your job, right? And yeah again, back to the U.S. my game, I do remember like Kirby screaming at the at the field saying, do your job to everyone. um So going to have to play discipline, assignment football. And then this is where we the fans can impact the game, right? Get loud ah and disrupt their offense so that they can't hear anything and, you know, can't make their checks of the line of scrimmage so that they don't know what's going on.
00:43:14
Speaker
We that need the stadium pulse from Culture Ball 25 impacting these guys. Right. yeah make the Make the stadium rock and sway. and I know it's cold. ah Bring your hot hands, bring your plug-in jackets. um It will be cold, but you will be expected to get up and yell. Save your voice in the in the coming days.
00:43:38
Speaker
No screaming about politics that at the Thanksgiving table. Just say, not today. Not today. Not today, Uncle Joe. I got the i got the dogs tomorrow. That's right. That's right. All right. Anything else you're looking for ah out of the dog's defense? Dog's defense. um I am going to be looking for our ability to tackle and get to the quarterback when we have opportunities. um I'd like to see a progression from last week where we got hands on and contact with um the quarterback and we were unable to to wrap up. I would like to see that not be a thing.
00:44:18
Speaker
That actually that reminded me of my second conspiracy theory. In our UMass review, I said I had two conspiracy theories and I could only remember one of them. The second conspiracy theory I just never now remembered was maybe we were trying to give Georgia Tech like a false sense of security and give them what they thought was a great blueprint. But now we're going to. But then we did it on purpose and now we're ready for it. I don't believe that to be true. What was the false sense of security? Like what were what were they doing that you think that letting their quarterback run so effectively?
00:44:48
Speaker
Oh, got it. Got it. Yeah. If only there were other games where that happened as well, Jim. Yeah. Yeah. So, I mean, no, I do not believe that to be the case, but it's funny. It's funny to joke about. It is. It is.
00:45:03
Speaker
Yes, please please try to run your your your quarter your gimp quarterback that can't throw on our team. That would be amazing, please um They Yeah, so they average their offense average is twenty seven point four points a game You know, I've watched a decent amount of them um I watched the last week I watched the NC State game um And you know, I mean they NC State had his lead late Georgia Tech March right down the field um You know Buster Faulkner, I think is a good he is a good offensive coordinator. He is a good play caller and
00:45:41
Speaker
So i you know I think we'll have our hands full um with our offense, like kind of like we did last year, right? um Last two years, they've come out with a good ah good script. So I will say they're going to they're probably going to come out with a pretty good opening script. I would say let's, ah John, like you said, against Tennessee even, right? like Let's not overreact to the first drive. Let's see kind of what happens when we get out of the out of the script. um They have put up points on this early, the last couple of years. So um so don't be don't be shocked if

Game Expectations and Strategies

00:46:09
Speaker
that happens. Let's stay in it as the crowd and keep affecting the game. Yeah. I think that we're going to see you know we're gonna see that zone read. We're going to see who's matched up with who. um it's It just is what it is. um you know I think that it's silly to expect us to pitch a shutout.
00:46:31
Speaker
The numbers by and large are pointing to a Georgia win. So yeah, um which I know we'll get to that. But um overall, and I expect that this will be close at halftime, which frankly has been a lot of the games this season and second half turns around. We make our adjustments and their other teams offenses tend to not do as well.
00:46:51
Speaker
Yeah. All right. Let's do a quick ah special teams rundown. Um, so do they have any Australians Jim? So that's my, that's my big note here, John. They do not have an Australian Australian Hunter. Um, but they do take them seriously, but they do have an Irish Hunter.
00:47:08
Speaker
for whatever color is the only Irish punter in FPS that there was a there was a you know their season opening game which at the time we thought was this huge massive upset ah over Florida State which now doesn't care near the way that it is at the time but you know they played that game in in Ireland um and I remember they did like a They did like a game day story on the punter, uh, being from Ireland and getting to play in front of the home crowd, uh, against Florida state in the opener. So David Shanahan is his name. Uh, he averages for 43 and a half yards of plant. Um, on the place King side, uh, Aiden Burr is their kicker. He's a sophomore. Uh, he's perfect on extra points, but he is 11 of 17 on field goals. So file that under a watch this space on.
00:47:57
Speaker
On Saturday night on Friday night. Yeah, I got i gotta to make sure I see that on Friday night. Oh yeah. What are they going to do? What are they going to do when, uh, when they, when the game kicks off, you know how they go. It's Saturday. and What are they going to do? What are we going to do? Are they going to change the intro? Are we going to be able to play Saturday nights? All right. On a Friday.
00:48:18
Speaker
ah but
00:48:21
Speaker
I mean, these are, these are important. These are important questions. yeah I'm actually super, I'm actually super curious. They'll probably just play Saturday nights. All right. But that is interesting. What, but why? Why are you saying they should change it? I mean, it's not Saturday. It's not Saturday. and There's no Friday nights. All right.
00:48:42
Speaker
I'm trying to think of what are some songs that have Friday in it? Oh, they could play. They could play Friday.
00:48:51
Speaker
I don't know. I always say that we should integrate some some form of Bubba Sparks song into the repertoire. This could be good a good intro for for something like that. like If you're listening and you have any any sway or pull on um um Game Day Atmosphere, It's Getting Ugly is a perfect game song for um clean old fashioned hate.
00:49:15
Speaker
Yeah. Yeah. Agreed. Agreed. Hey, you know, Athens guy, uh, Boba Sparks. I'm all for that. Yes. All right. I feel like that conversation was a perfect segue into the listener questions. Yeah. As long as they don't play Rebecca Black on Friday, I'll be, I'll be okay. Yeah. When you said play Friday, I knew that's not what you meant. I feel like, I feel like as I was, as I was just briefly perusing like other songs that are about Friday, I came, I saw that when I was like, they don't think that I had that. Do they?
00:49:44
Speaker
i was referring I was referring to the Ice Cube song. Yes. All right. Let's hear the listener questions, ah which are brought to you by Working Web Media. So we worked with them ah last offseason to redo our website. ah So head over to mygottapodcast.com. You can check out some their work. We worked on with them.
00:50:03
Speaker
Um, so, you know, they do a lot of work with small businesses, helping them get their website set up. It's a super easy process and they help work, help walk you through the entire process, um, to work on color scheme and and look and feel, uh, and it's super easy and we've been very pleased thus far.
00:50:20
Speaker
So, if you have a small business, maybe you need a website redesign, or maybe you just need some help with your online presence in social media, head over to workingwebmedia.com slash dogs, and they will know that we sent you their way. All right, leading us off, as always, bread building with the building bonus, TMTMTM. First question, why did Guiaph Collins put actual weightlifting equipment on the sidelines?
00:50:48
Speaker
That had to be one of the lamest things that I've ever seen in my life. I mean it was so weird. It was so weird. And then and like they were like lifting and they're like, do y'all lift weights in the season? Yeah. Yeah. ah Absolutely wild. Um, I don't know. i'm I'm assuming, you know, the thought process had to be that it was going to look like intimidating or something. Um, but definitely did not work. Uh, yeah, I don't know. I never got that. My guy, my guy was, my my guy Guillof was, was really big on the props. Yeah. And between, between that and the the pretend dunking at, um, at the practices, remember when he, when they would do like that, they would hold their arms out and in a circle yeah and they'd have line up and do dunks. yeah Um, but all that. And then he would also have the the Waffle House cup that he would always just carry around. Yeah. Like Atlanta is not the only city with Waffle House. I understand.
00:51:48
Speaker
Um, second, second question. What is your favorite clean old fashioned hate game? And then Brett said that his is 2004 specifically when Reggie ball threw it away on fourth down to lose to the, uh, to lose the game. Do you you have a, do you have a specific favorite clean old passionate? I believe we've talked about this, but Massaquah Massaquah.
00:52:08
Speaker
God, that that's definitely my favorite. Well, one of my favorite ones and calls. Yeah, that's a good one. So since you said that one, I'll go with the 1997 Georgia Georgia Tech. um That was my senior year of high school. I was supposed to go to that game. ah One of my friends that I but mentioned, I have a lot of friends that went there. One of my friends was a year ahead of me in school. And so he was a freshman and he had tickets and we were supposed to go with him and he, he left his tickets in his dorm room and lost it, left his keys in a friend's car. And like, so we couldn't get to the tickets. So we had to watch it on TV. Uh,
00:52:47
Speaker
man But that one, um, game winning touchdown catch. Uh, it was a Mike Bobo to friend of the show, Corey Allen, uh, connection and, uh, one of the best months and calls ever where after the game ended, he said our hearts, they were torn out and bleeding and we picked it up and we stuck it back inside. Uh, RIP. Are we going to see Corey this weekend? He was at, uh, we might, I've seen him a couple of times. He was at Tennessee. Um, so yeah, we may, we may see Corey. We may see Corey.
00:53:17
Speaker
Uh, Brett rounded this out with unrelated. 1990 was a long time ago. So agreed quite long. And that was also a shared title. So like, whatever that's Colorado. Yeah. All right. Next up 51 does. Oh, was it not consensus? Exactly. Correct. 51 to seven GATA it's third and 12. Who would you trust more? Guillaume Collins or Todd Grantham?
00:53:36
Speaker
This is a sweating bullet situation. Third and Grantham or third and Collins. I would i guess ah i guess I'll go with Grantham. I don't know. I can't go. I can't i can't take gi off seriously. Yeah. I've got to go with the same thing as well. but um Yeah. Never, never felt good about it. I think there was some conversation back and forth, but in this tweet and he posted like the, it was like the 99 yard touchdown against Nebraska and waiver bowl. That was a citrus bowl, I believe. Uh, grant them wild. All right. So speaking, speaking of Guillof, speaking of Guillof, he is currently the defensive coordinator at
00:54:16
Speaker
North Carolina. Yeah. Yeah. And then they Georgia Tech beat them earlier this season but for 41 points. Yeah. I think that was how we talked about this earlier. Wasn't that I think North Carolina was Georgia Tech's only true road victory on the season. So that is correct. um Yeah. Yeah. As far as as far as things to to keep in mind that they played Florida State in in Ireland. They played at Louisville.
00:54:45
Speaker
They played at North Carolina. They played at Virginia tech and that's it. Um, yeah. Then the Notre Dame game was a neutral site game. So technically in a way it was technically a home game. It was a Georgia tech home game at Mercedes Benz. Yeah. They didn't play at their home stadium. Jim, they did not can't convince me otherwise. So that's why I like, whenever anybody says that Georgia has ah a home game against Florida, I'm like, no, it's in a way game. Yeah.
00:55:15
Speaker
Um, they do not farewell on the road, dear listener. yeah All right. Fletcher Proctor, uh, Fletcher, I don't know why you're giving us bad memories. He said my worst tech memory, I was the figure it out vibes are low vibes are low, sir. He said, I was the figure it out gift before that dude was, uh, when George got, he was running all over Sanford stadium in 2000. That by the way, was the third of those, uh, three losses Georgia and had when I got to college. Um, thankfully those days are gone. Who would you rather face Texas A&M or Texas?
00:55:47
Speaker
Look, we're focused on Georgia Tech, Fletcher. Did you see Kirby did that multiple times in his press conference today? People kept trying to talk about the SEC championship and he's like, look, I'm focused on Georgia Tech. Yeah, he definitely did that with chip. Yeah, yeah. Honestly, I'm not even really sure. um I mean, we know we're getting in Texas because we already played them and has the the running quarterback. I'm not really sure, but we've got no say in it.
00:56:17
Speaker
I don't really care. Yeah. Just, just beat beat the hell out of whoever shows up in Atlanta. And then we can kind of, you know, wait and see how this thing shakes out. And I think that, uh, isn't we, like, we don't want to be number four. I feel like we it's really hard for us to be sitting at number one. Um, but two and three, I feel like is a, is a good spot to be in. Yeah. If we can, you know, yeah, I agree. I agree. I think.
00:56:46
Speaker
If we win that game, I think I think we end up at number two for us worth. Yeah, but we're not there yet. We're not there yet. We're not there yet. The inflator said, how about Mike White shoving Rick Patino into a locker? So Georgia basketball minute, the basketball team played two game to like two one off games in the Bahamas. It was kind of weird. Like it wasn't a tournament, but it was two singular games on back to back days.
00:57:09
Speaker
Uh, so failed to Marquette played them tough for most of the game and then Marquette pulled away at the end, but Marquette is good. And then they're, you know, I think number 15 ranked, uh, St. John's though, also a ranked team and the dogs hung on to win that game, turn the ball over a ton. Um, had like three guys foul out, um, but hung on, hung on in one. Uh, I don't know.
00:57:33
Speaker
The whistles were being blown a lot in that game. I'll just say that. But to hang on and get that win over the Rippetino coached ah St. John's was was excellent. So that you know big win for the dogs, um been having a lot of fun watching them. If you're in town and I've got to figure out if we can make this happen, the dogs are playing Saturday night.
00:57:53
Speaker
Um, so for the folks who are staying in town in Athens this weekend, uh, you could do, you could see the football team Friday night and the basketball team on Saturday night. So just a heads up. Nice. And Rick Patino, I believe former, former UMass player. Former, uh, you know, the, oh, oh, he may have. I don't know. I know from our UMass, it was, um, John Calipari was the coach. Oh, was it Calipari? Yeah. Sorry. One of those.
00:58:21
Speaker
One of those, one of those famous basketball players. Yeah. All right. Got a couple, uh, we've got jokes, uh, questions. Roo's Dixie dog said, can you explain how an engineering school designs a stadium with columns that that obstruct one's view? Um, and then Kevin said, uh, why is it that an engineering school can't design better entry and egress to a stadium hashtag North Avenue trade school? So Rick Patino did go to UMass by the way.
00:58:49
Speaker
Okay. Okay. So in general, it's ruse dixie dog and Kevin basically are joking. What's wrong with your tech engineers? Yeah, seriously, they can't build a, they have to deal with this jalopy driving around, driving around campus. Like literally you're, you're, you're one of your mascots is a, is a wreck. Um,
00:59:09
Speaker
So, yeah, I don't know. I don't know why they can't design these things. um I have I have been in that in that area in Bobby Dodd, where there are the columns. ah It's pretty crazy. It's been a long time. I think like ninety to ninety three ish or something like that. I went to a game with my sister and ah it's absolutely wild up in there. So.
00:59:32
Speaker
You would think an engineering school would do better. I guess I guess um um when I've gone to the game, I basically stayed in the glory. I've sat in like the glorified um high school bleachers. um Like the entirety of it is like metal. Yeah.
00:59:47
Speaker
um What I guess it's on the east it's on the opposite side so it's like on the east side in the lower level underneath where they built the upper deck there's a spot where there there are spots where there are like beams ah in the middle of all the seats Well, I guess that that could be a fun fact. Another fun fact. look It is the oldest stadium in the country and the oldest you know continuously used college football stadium in the country. So it's old. Yeah. All right. Rambo. Rambo comes in and says, I know we have the nerds first, but really, Bama, are we mad? Honestly. So again, Rambo, we are focused on Georgia Tech.
01:00:24
Speaker
Uh, I will say I am not mad. Uh, nothing wrong with playing for a championship and let's go for that. Number two seed. I was honestly, and I'll put big flat out honest. I was, I was excited. I was actively cheering, uh, against both Bama and A&M because I wanted it. So I'm not mad. I'm happy. We might as well, we might as well go out and win the whole ehan thing. That's right. That is right.
01:00:54
Speaker
All right. Uh, Bubbie Dean, will the Athens night atmosphere be enough to get the dogs defense to bring the juice against the rambling wreck? Go dogs. g I do. I think that they're going to be nice and juiced up. I think that not having this game be a senior night situation is going to help, uh, in that regard. Um, it being a night game crowd will be nice and loud. I'm hoping that they have the fireworks situation again. Um, I assume that they will, Jim, like i would assume them yeah yeah I guess that be something to to look out for. Um, I know that if I were going to the game and I didn't see them, I would be like, man, I got chipped.
01:01:32
Speaker
Um, but yeah, I would say that, um, I have a feeling that that that the dogs are going to cook. And I would say too, like the players notice, this I don't know if you listened to moles in the mic yet, John, that they, and, um, they talked about that, the Tennessee game and the environment and how cool it

Impact of Stadium Atmosphere

01:01:49
Speaker
was. And they came out and the fireworks and all that. So, um, they noticed, they noticed specifically, specifically, they were talking about how full the stadium was when they got there. Yeah. Yeah. So take the day off work on Friday. If you don't already have it off and, uh, get over there early, uh, all day. tell
01:02:07
Speaker
yeah um All day tailgate all day. All right, Chad Jarvis thoughts on tech on a Friday So I I'll just give a fun fact on this one um Because ah we just talked to the whole night nighttime environment thing. We have played them on Friday before um So the last time we played them on a Friday was at 1994 I was actually at that game Uh, in that game, a senior Eric Zire was injured and a young Mike Bobo, uh, came to the rescue off the bench, uh, to continue that game going. The dogs won that one 48 to 10, uh, in Athens. I remember we drove over from my grandparents house to go, to go over to that game. Um, also the teams did play on Thanksgiving day in 1993 and 1995 at Georgia tech.
01:02:57
Speaker
So I think 90, 95 was the i Canon Parkman field goal to win the game. Uh, Heinz Ward was playing quarterback that game. So at any rate, so yeah. Um, on a Friday, leave it detect to, to run the game on a Thursday.
01:03:12
Speaker
Yeah. So the only thing I'll say that I don't like about this game being on Friday is that Georgia Tech played on Thursday. So it's one thing if both teams have a short week, but Georgia is on a short week going Saturday to Friday. Tech is on a long week going Thursday to Friday. So I don't like that aspect of it. Otherwise, I don't in general, I guess I'm still not. I think it's kind of weird, but it is what it is. It's TV. And we're the big game on Friday night, all eyes on clean old, clean old fashioned eight. So that's cool.
01:03:41
Speaker
I freaking love it, dude. Really? Like i I am. And this is coming from someone that is a ardent hater of all football games happening during the week. The caveats on that would be, you know, Labor Day weekend, you know, Thanksgiving holiday weekends, that sort of thing. Um, if, if you have an opportunity to have an extended break,
01:04:09
Speaker
Basically, what this means is is that we have full national attention on on our game, and which is you know both a recruiting opportunity as well as it is just a narrative building opportunity. um With everyone being ah able to watch this game you know without any other encumbrances, i don't there's not other there's no other football games on, right?
01:04:30
Speaker
Not at night. I don't believe so. man There's games throughout the day. So I know that like there are some families that go go like they get all balls to the wall on but Black Friday. My family's never really been one of those. um We might go and you know get a TV or something like that if there's something that we're specifically looking for. um So I know that there are some families that like to go to the movies on Friday after Thanksgiving. um know Short of that, there's not a whole lot going on on Friday. It's kind of like, what do you do?
01:05:00
Speaker
Well, what better way to answer that question with I'm going to go to Athens and fricking tailgate all fricking day. Are you kidding me? Sign me up. And then the best part is, is that you can go home and then you get to do it all over again on Saturday and just watch other teams play without a work, without a care in the world. Um, and eat leftover Thanksgiving sandwiches. Like to me that this is, this is a perfect, this is a perfect scenario. Give me a night game on on Friday after Thanksgiving every year.
01:05:29
Speaker
Okay. Okay. You've sold me. Uh, what's the one thing, what's the one dish you bring to the table for Thanksgiving? do Well, historically it's going to be like bring, like, as in like, I always bring this sort of like what I want to bring.
01:05:43
Speaker
I don't know. I'm not Chad. Chad, we had a clarifying question. I can text you. A clarifying question. um i'll i'll go I'll go with like the one dish that I always make. um Typically, it's going to be the turkey. I don't know that I'm doing the turkey this year. I think my brother-in-law or my wife and sister-in-law are going to do it. I can't remember.
01:06:03
Speaker
Uh, as you, as you know, Jim, um, we're heading to the beach for Thanksgiving. So, yeah um, I hung back, uh, with my teenager who has teenager things to do. And, uh, I also have some work, so I'm going to be going down tomorrow. And so I told my wife said, listen, I'm not going to be freaking out about the turkey. I'm going to have to have someone else do it, not to mention the fact that I really don't like cooking Turkey, but I'm good at it. And I do like.
01:06:29
Speaker
You know, making sure that if I'm, if I'm going to have Turkey and someone's going to demand that we have Turkey, I want it to taste good. But that said, I always want to make sure that we have some high quality Mac and cheese. So okay Mac and cheese is my, is my pick. Yeah. Since you said Mac and cheese, I'm going to go with, uh, dressing just so that I can say that I prefer dressing over stuffing. I am not a stuffing guy. Uh, always love the, the cornbread based dressing. Uh, my.
01:06:59
Speaker
My granny used to make it, my mom's mom, and ah now my mom makes it so we could say it's Ponda's famous dressing these days, I suppose. So ah so ah <unk> I'll go with that one since you already said mac and cheese because that's our, and Kim usually makes the mac and cheese, so. so Um, for me, I don't make anything that's great on Thanksgiving of the Turkey. I'm saying some kind of way. I'll, I'll make a smoked Turkey. If I'm, if I'm actually the one bringing it, it's a smoked Turkey. So yeah, smoked Turkey. I was, I was actually, I will say I was actually kind of looking forward to doing the Turkey on the, um, on the rec tech that I got. Um, cause I haven't actually smoked a Turkey on it yet, but we're not going to be here. So I'll probably, I'll probably try it out on a small bird or something like that. Uh, when, when they, when they put the turkeys on sale the next day.
01:07:43
Speaker
Um, anyway, I'm more of a steak guy. I would refer to cook steak at every holiday meal. yeah Um, I thought, you know, I'm not, I'm not a dressing or a stuffing fan, really. i like it on it Yeah. I just put gravy over everything. So I like to have like Turkey and mashed potatoes and the dressing and I put gravy over all and it's excellent.
01:08:05
Speaker
My wife does make, um, some good, some good stuffing. I don't know if it's stuffing or just what's the, what's the, what's the the delineator between the two being a big fan of it. I don't pay attention. So dressing is more like cornbread base and also stuffing. I mean, technically stuffing people like you stuff the turkey with it and it cooks in the turkey and then you pull it out. But that's like a major no-no.
01:08:26
Speaker
Right. But that is what people used to do. So, but that's more like, I would say bread based, whereas the dressing is cornbread. Yeah. That's right. That's what I thought. Okay. So that was right. The other thing that I would say that I always like Mac and cheese. I don't care what we're having, what protein, I don't care anything Mac and cheese. And either if my mom is making it her green bean casserole, um, or if my mom is not making it, which I don't know what it is. Like there's just something special about how she does the.
01:08:56
Speaker
ah does the green bean casserole that I can't replicate um to save my life. But if, if she's not making the green bean casserole, I will do bacon wrapped green beans. Like those are the two sides that we always like to have. And there's like this like brown sugary kind of sweet Worcestershire sauce kind of thing that we, we drizzle over it. So it's got like this, you know, sweet, sweet, salty situation going on on the, on the bacon and the green beans. So.
01:09:25
Speaker
Mac and cheese and bacon, red, green beans. I'd come eat at that table. That sounds good. I'm down that. It's pretty amazing. Chocolate dessert. I know the best, another ah I keep saying best runners. The brothers know best. um they ah they They had a ah long dissection of ah Thanksgiving. If you haven't had listened to that episode, give give it a listen. It's pretty funny.
01:09:49
Speaker
Nice. Nice. I have not listened yet, but I saw that clip at this point, at this point, it's a weekly, it's a weekly promo for but yeah i never like, like subscribe. It is good. like Not a sponsor. Amazing. All right. Uh, let's see boss dog. who You got to spend some time with, uh, last weekend. Uh, yeah. Shout out CJ. Good to, good to meet you last week.
01:10:15
Speaker
Uh, we've seen guys like whole spear, so could be white and nitro toggle get good run, uh, against UMass. Do you think these guys are breaking the rotation? And if so, who will step into that Dylan Bell role for the time being? I don't know that any of those guys really have like the Dylan Bell type fit with like the kind of X factor type thing. Um, but of those guys, I would say from what I've seen this for like nitro toggle definitely seems to be the guy that they're trying to get the ball to the most. So I'll go, I'll go with him just off that.
01:10:45
Speaker
All right. Since you said natural toggle, I'm going to go wildcard and say Jayden Riddell. Okay. I would like to see Jayden Riddell get more involved in this football team based off of what I saw in the brief time that he was on the field. Yeah. Okay. That's fair. That's fair. That was a good one.
01:11:02
Speaker
Alright, let's see. ah got Got a couple from the the Huggins clan. So Garrett checks in. um Actually, so she Garrett dropping in a would you rather? I absolutely love it. ah Would you rather play Texas? apples Apples and trees. That's right.

SEC Championship Opponent Discussion

01:11:19
Speaker
Would you rather play Texas or A&M for the SEC championship game? Although I guess we already said we don't care. um So we hit that one. I think we got that one a few times.
01:11:28
Speaker
um So, biggest things to watch out for defensively on Friday if you were Kirby. Biggest things to watch out for defensively if you're Kirby. So, Georgia's watching out on defense? Yeah, Georgia defense.
01:11:41
Speaker
so i would yeah yeah Um, I would say that not, not letting the quarterback sneak out of the pocket. That's, that's

Defensive Concerns: Escaping Quarterbacks

01:11:52
Speaker
been, that's been something that has just been, uh, I think the, the waiting, I think Tony was talking about like, it wasn't the return of the Kirby rage stroke, but he was not happy with his coaching staff. yeah Um, in the, in the last game.
01:12:05
Speaker
And I think that part of the, what brings on Kirby or age strokes is a quarterback that escapes the pocket, um, and does damage with his legs. Like that, that, that entire like scenario has been something that has plagued our defense. Yeah. Yeah. Regardless of staff. Yeah. Agreed. I think that's a good one. Um,
01:12:25
Speaker
Yeah, I mean I would I would also say Not that it's the first thing to watch out but because cause I agree with you I would also just say watch out.

Anticipating Opponent's Trick Plays

01:12:33
Speaker
They're gonna do some kind of trick play. So um ah I Would watch for that as well. So just kind of be on your heels um be ready for that kind of stuff um Yes, it shows. I hope you're hope you're feeling better the Sinus infection okay so she rounded out with who would you want to play first out of the current top twelve so I was my initial thought was Indiana um so I guess maybe I'll maybe I'll stick with that I would say either Indiana or whoever wins the big
01:13:04
Speaker
to Big 12, although I guess those teams technically aren't in the top 12 anymore, but would be in the playoff it so stick with that I'll go to Indiana give you an all day I'm kind of embarrassed but who is in the current top 12 because like basically I haven't really as soon as as soon as I saw that we got a Birth in the SEC championship. I just basically stopped caring about what the CFP was I ah Well, there is no we don't even have the new CFP yet, so I wouldn't even know like it that comes out in Tuesdays So we don't even have it. We don't even have it. Okay, so you can't even know um Can't even know normally we're

Playoff Speculation and Matchup Desires

01:13:37
Speaker
recording on Tuesday. So correct correct um I could give you the AP the AP top 12. I could give you that
01:13:45
Speaker
AP top 25. Yeah. I'm looking at it right now. Um, okay. I'll be, I'll be selfish. Well, I guess, uh, so who do you rather play like as a home game or just in general? I'm taking this as you're in the playoff, right? There's going to be 12 teams. Who do you want? Who do you want as your first game? Who's the first team you want to play? I'm i'm saying probably SMU. Yeah. Yeah. I think SMU or Indiana. Those are the ones for me.
01:14:12
Speaker
I assume you were Indiana. It would be nice to wreck a Heisman season, a Boise State. um Cool factor, Notre Dame. um Playing Notre Dame again would be would be kind of cool. um ah Even though it seems like it's increasingly less likely now, but you know that that game at at Penn State would have been a cool game. um I was selfishly like wanting to do a preview episode against Indiana because I have so much family history at that university. so Um, I have the fun facts would have been off the rails. It could still happen. It could still happen. They are very much all that that chaos app was beautiful for them. So, um, they look, I wouldn't mind going back to Bloomington, but I don't think we are.
01:14:57
Speaker
They looked like they were in a bad spot, uh, losing Ohio state, but then with all the chaos Saturday night, I think brought, uh, Indiana squarely back into the black picture.

Georgia Tech's Design Quirks: A Humorous Rant

01:15:05
Speaker
So, yeah. All right. Joel, joe Joel, uh, rattled off what you said earlier. So he said yellow jackets are yellow and black to live in the dirt. They don't produce honey. oh there is Therefore, please explain text colors of gold and Navy in the honeycomb pattern, helmets they've worn, uh, it's complete delusional insanity.
01:15:25
Speaker
The answer, Joel, is we can't explain it, uh, because it is nonsensical based on the facts that you just laid in front of us. So that's all I got there. Um, what's funny is, is that if you've never met Joel, you've got to listen to him tell it because I'm, I'm sitting here listening to him just go out on a diet about this in the Joel Huggins voice. And it's absolutely amazing. Shout out hush puppy. Amazing. And then number two, he said is porta potty liquid blue solely for Gator fans. It is for anybody that it dares to cross the Huggins clan. Nice. All right. Uh, let's see. Friend of the show, Tim Riley. What does Georgia tech do? Well, that could present challenges for our defense. Honestly, probably beat the dead horse. I think we already kind of done this to me. it's the It's the quarterback run game. Um, it's the,
01:16:19
Speaker
the The zone read trying to put you in a bad situation um because like I said, the running back is is good as well. um So to me, it's it's mainly mainly that that and like the RPO game. Right. So um

Georgia Tech's Strengths and Challenges

01:16:31
Speaker
that's it for me. I would agree. I would agree with that. All right. um Let's get back over to the family affair. Fire.
01:16:50
Speaker
I understand you had fireball. Uh, did have a fireball shot with, uh, Mr. Fireball himself. Uh, got a pretty awesome video. All right. Uh, Jason Huggins, the hug dog with Jason's would you rather, all right. Number one, would you rather cheer for tech or the Taliban?
01:17:11
Speaker
Uh, Bush, Bush, Bush agreed. Uh, would you rather coach Capri, meaning Kiev Collins, uh, or coach waddle, uh, meeting Paul Johnson.
01:17:25
Speaker
Oh, um, I'll say this, here's how I'd say it. Paul Johnson better coach, but if the question is, would you rather have them coach tech than as geof? Yes. Okay. So yeah. Um, would you rather play Texas or Texas? Anna? Is that a position? Are we going to answer this question? No, I think we so we still do our we stick to our guns. We don't care. We have have Georgia tech. We have Georgia tech. Save this one. Save this one for, uh, the, the preview of the, the review.
01:17:55
Speaker
Yeah, yeah. The the last last question is amazing. Would you rather tailgate all day with me, Jason, or at Moore's Hall? And then he, he noted that just finally in a position, I'd rather not be.
01:18:11
Speaker
Oh man. Oh man. Uh, push. Yeah, seriously. How we can is this is like, this is the wood you rather, uh, that we refuse to answer. This is the this's all of them. All of them. It's like the, it's like the the emperor's new groove, like both, both is good.
01:18:30
Speaker
Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Hey, I like, I like our, uh, like meandering kind of go back and forth. Uh, it's, it's worked for us thus far. Yeah. The all day tailgate. I told, I already told Logan, I was like, listen, we're going to, we're going to be by just like we always are. And we're going to, then we're going to head over to waiting since last Saturday folks and say hello to

Tailgating Plans and Audience Requests

01:18:51
Speaker
them. And then we're going to make our way over to, to everyone else. So i see you're going full vagabond.
01:18:57
Speaker
I'm going full vagabond. Yeah. Why wouldn't you? I mean, that's the plan. Okay. Okay. My plan is to leave Hilton head, um, leave Hilton head as early as I can get out of there on Friday. And I'll probably be in Athens. Hopefully if I don't get a Bobo late start, um, and around, around lunchtime. Okay. Gotcha. Yeah. good yeah ah That sounds right. That sounds doable.
01:19:21
Speaker
It still gives you a pretty solid, uh, pretty solid tailgate, uh, runway. Oh yeah. For sure. For with, with seven 30, for sure. And there is a three 30 game, uh, on Friday too, by the way. So it won't really be seven 30. As we, as we, as as we we all know. Yeah. would be like san on news is that bad news is that The later that kickoff gets pushed back, the colder it's getting. Yeah. It's it'll be like seven 49 kickoff kind of deal would be my guess. That's what, that's what it was Tennessee.
01:19:48
Speaker
All right. Hug dog. Thanks. Always, uh, always love the, the woody riders. All right. Which we don't have tickets yet. So if anybody out there in podcast land has two tickets, please let me know. Nice. Nice. All right. It is time.
01:20:08
Speaker
Oh my God. My God. Trying to put glasses on.
01:20:16
Speaker
It is time for coaches over unders clean old fashion hate. All right, JP, I have a slight lead, so I will determine whether I take the ball or defer. i I'll take the ball. So first up over under 280 passing yards for one

Game Predictions: Stats and Jerseys

01:20:34
Speaker
Carson. but Oh, man. I feel like I should have let you go for some of this one. Forget it. I'm going over. Hmm. I've got to go over.
01:20:43
Speaker
All right. Over to you. Over under four and a half catches for Georgia tight ends. Over. Agreed. Over. And then for me, over under one and a half rushing touchdowns. Line of scrimmage game. I'm going over. I'm also going to go over. Okay. Over the defense. Over under 55 quarterback rushing yards for Georgia Tech. I'm going to go over.
01:21:06
Speaker
Yeah, and I think so, too. Second leading rusher is hands of King. I'm going to go over ah five and over under five and a half tackles for loss. You were saying you wanted us to get after him, get after him in the backfield. I think we got to folks last week, but just didn't make the tackle. I think we do this week over. I'm also going to go over. We're agreeing on everything. That's OK. Over under 13 and a half first half over under 13 and a half first half points for Georgia Tech.
01:21:36
Speaker
This is to me, yours is to you. ah This is you. Can I get a recount? Uh, first 13 and a half points. Um, hmm. I'm going to go, let me go under. Ah, man. I've already decided to go under too. I'm going to stick with it. Let's see what my guns under, uh, okay. Special teams. Uh, this one's to me over under 0.5 tackles made by Brett Thorson.
01:22:06
Speaker
Wow, he's an amazing tagler. Uh, I hope we go back to our, no one even returns a punt for any yardage. Uh, somebody go under. Yeah. Can we please go back to that? Like, what is going on? Yeah, I don't know. Like seriously, what in the world? Like, what is going on? What happened? I feel like that they they need to have this segment on while it's on the mic. Like Brett, what's going on? What's going on with you?
01:22:30
Speaker
Uh, speaking of, uh, we didn't really talk about it in the, in the UMass preview, but while we're on this top topic of Thorson, um, came in and and was the holder, uh, when, when Carson was out. Did you see that? I actually did not notice that. They actually, uh, mentioned it on, on the broadcast. They said, Brett Thorson checking in as the holder. Um,
01:22:53
Speaker
I guess that when Carson's not in the game, Thorsen is the holder. that's um That's pretty common. It's pretty common to have a punter beholder, actually. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I mean, obviously not like shocking, but yeah he was still funny to see him out there, this giant guy out there. He is huge.
01:23:10
Speaker
He's a big boy. He's a big boy. yeah um And then as soon as he was on there, I feel like he was out there high-fiving everybody. So ah Ratledge ratledge was was right there with him. I think that they they had a mullet on the mic moment.
01:23:25
Speaker
Nice. Nice. Good to see. Good to see the podcast. look Exactly. All right. So it's me. I'm going under. Sorry. Okay. Long winded. Say I'm going under. Okay. And then, all right. So I don't know. We actually actually hadn't even been really talked about this much. We've said we, I guess our opinion, like I guess it's a blackout. Um, at least with the fans based on the tweet from the football equipment staff, but over under, or I guess he said it's a yes or no black jerseys on black Friday. Yes or no. No.
01:23:56
Speaker
No, I'm with you. I will believe that Kirby will send the team out in black jerseys when I see it. I'm never going to, I'm never going to particularly predict it again until I see it. So remember when we used to get all, all listener questions like over, under 2.5 uniform combinations for the season, all stuff. And we've all just gotten away from it.
01:24:13
Speaker
Yeah, like, no. Zero fun server. Yeah. I mean, yeah, it's it's ah it's a no brainer. I am notoriously, I notoriously hate everything about Black Friday for a number of reasons. ah Working in the retail space and marketing, um you know, <unk>re we're asked to do a lot of brack Black Friday nonsense. um And I think that it's way,
01:24:41
Speaker
way overhyped, it's way over commercialized, you know, the country and all that kind of stuff, like spend time with your family, go tailgate all day in Athens, and wear black to the game. Because if there's anything that's happened from this holiday that are, you know, quote unquote, you know, marketing blitz, um is that they've given us an excuse and an easy layup to wear black.
01:25:05
Speaker
Yeah, yeah, for sure. All right. Shout out costo bill. Thank you, uh, as always for, for send those. And I think we'll hope up to see costo on Friday as well. All right. Uh, let's get into the game predictions. So just kind of running down, uh, what is out there. Georgia is favored by 19 and a half. Uh, the over under is 53. So that gives an implied score of Georgia 36.25 to Georgia tech 16.75. Uh, odd shark is predicting this game as a Georgia win 36.6 to 26.6.

uh college football insiders which i've got up if you're on youtube uh they've got georgia 32.49 to georgia tech 19.86 uh they also have georgia as like a 83 win probability uh cbc r2 although i don't think it's refreshed for the week but pull what they had out there based on last week's numbers they've got uh this is the biggest most lopsided one they've got georgia 30.1 uh to georgia tech 10.8 and Then if you look at our impact score that we do, John, ah we actually have Georgia 30.6 to Georgia Tech 18.5. The thing I'll point out there is it's interesting looking at Georgia Tech's scoring um just against the Power Five, they're actually like on average loose against the Power Five. They score 24.3 points and allow 25.5 against Power Five foes on average.
01:26:37

So, I mean, for me with this one, like, you know, I think it's going to be a, I do think it's going to be a line of scrimmage game.

Kirby Smart's Motivation and Game Analysis

01:26:44
Speaker
It's going to be a physical game. The only thing that, the thing that I really don't like, like I said earlier, is that they have had more time than us from last game to this one, but um You know, the, the last game that Kirby played in Sanford stadium was a loss to these guys. Uh, I think that that fuels him. And I know he said it's just any other game. Um, and I'm glad that he says stuff like that, but I think deep down, I don't know that he believes it. Um, so, uh, he's really good. He's really good at work in the media, which, you know, that job is being a ah college football head coach is as much politician as it is, you know, media, uh, media management.
01:27:25
Speaker
Yeah, for sure. For sure. So as well as, you know, coaching. Right. Right. Right. But yeah, so I got the dogs in this one. I'm going to go 34 to 17. I am going to to 17.
01:27:42
Speaker
Oh man. Yes. I like that one. Make it happen. Make it happen, JP. I have a feeling that they're going to want to make a statement here um just to give everybody something to think about. Yeah. I think that we are peaking at the right time and I want to see them play I feel like we've seen it the last few weeks here. They've played error free. They've got the right rotation at the offensive line. We're starting to see the tight ends. You're starting to see the reason why EuroSec was brought in. You're starting to see things develop that we've been wanting to see. And I just think i think they're going to put it all together and just come out and just just just lay out le a whooping on the little brother.
01:28:27
Speaker
That would be that would be beautiful. I love it. I love it. All right. Let's there is more cultural games going on this weekend. We can hit a coach's coach's pickup games. So the Egg Bowl is also on Friday um

Egg Bowl Preview: Mississippi State vs. Ole Miss

01:28:41
Speaker
this year. So I think traditionally that's usually on Thanksgiving Day, I believe, um but is on on Friday. ah It is Mississippi State at number 15 Ole Miss. Ole Miss is favored by 26 points.
01:28:55
Speaker
This is the three 30 games is the three 30 game on ABC that leads and, uh, uh, clean old passion hate on ABC. So that game could be interesting for the fighting hunters. Um, I think that, uh, basically eliminating themselves from the CFP, you know, situation, which I guess we shouldn't say, but generally, um, I think that they're probably outside looking in. Um, yeah.
01:29:19
Speaker
but think There's a lot of letdown in that team. So I think, I don't know if you're, if you're not a lane Kiffin disciple and you are someone that loves to just watch him meltdown and anything that he's with and around meltdown. Sorry, Hunter. This could be a trap game for you to lose to the cow college.
01:29:39
Speaker
Okay. Are you going with that? Uh, no, give me all a minute. Okay. I'm just saying that could really set up, that could really set up to make for a disastrous, uh, disastrous end to the most expensive team ever assembled or whatever.
01:29:57
Speaker
Yeah, yeah. ah Agreed. Agreed. All right. Let's see.

Tennessee vs. Vanderbilt: Rivalry Analysis

01:30:02
Speaker
Oh, and I also go Ole Miss. um Then heading to the Saturday slate in the SEC, you got number seven Tennessee is a 10 and a half point favorite at Vanderbilt. um That line stinks, June.
01:30:15
Speaker
It does, and it's a 12 o'clock game on ABC. So a nooner, um, which in Nashville at their central time, I'm pretty sure. Um, so early, early game there. I mean, does Diego Pavia have any magic left in them? It's hard to win on the road in the SEC. It's hard to win on the road in the SEC. Tennessee is, uh, they're saying they've got a playoff bid locked up. Hmm. Could they get caught looking ahead? Jim? I mean, is this a rivalry game? Does one call Tennessee Vandy rivalry?
01:30:45
Speaker
I don't know. Does it have a name? I don't know. To my knowledge, it doesn't. It is the in-state. It is the in-state game, though. Yeah, seriously. um Man, that would be delicious if Andy could pull that off. It would be so good. Nashville is the team that SEC foes go to die. Hey, Alabama lost there. Is it where your CFP hopes go to die? Yeah.
01:31:12
Speaker
And bachelorette parties. Give me Vandy, screw it. Let's go all in. Okay. I kind of wanted to take Vandy. I'm going to go opposite of you and take Tennessee. yeah i I am. All right. So here, iron bull is the, the old in the old three 30 slot on ABC.

Iron Bowl Discussion: Auburn vs. Alabama

01:31:31
Speaker
Uh, Auburn goes to number 13, Alabama, Alabama was favored by 11 and a half. Um, I don't know. Are they going to let a naysayer know but did the video of the Oklahoma player saying that they let a naysayer, let a naysayer know they're not going to the playoff was hilarious.
01:31:45
Speaker
um I don't know. if awesome I don't know if Auburn can pull that off twice in a row um And this time on the road, but I'm gonna pick it. Give me over You're gonna you're gonna kick him while they're down. Yeah, I'm just looking at something real quick So the last time the last time the Auburn won in Tuscaloosa was 2010. Mmm, man. I don't like my pick as much You're locked in. Sorry. Uh, it's fine. That said, Alabama has won the last four meetings in a row and that would represent the longest streak since 1981 that one of these teams has had. Cause before that, you know, you get into like the bear Bryant years and all that kind of jazz.
01:32:34
Speaker
But yeah, um, I guess technically you go back to 2007 when Auburn won a bunch in a row before Nick Saban got there. I mean, basically what I say, that was a long-winded way of saying that Auburn is due a game in this series. Yeah. So I'm going to go, I'm going to, I'm going to, I'm going to also take the Tigers just because I again would love to have and feast on delicious Alabama tears. Yara, I feel like she would appreciate that pick.
01:33:03
Speaker
Nice. Seven o'clock Saturday night, Oklahoma goes to LSU. LSU is favored by six. um'll Give me Baton Rouge at night. Give me the Tigers. Six points. Yep. And Oklahoma's riding high after holding, after holding Alabama to nothing. Alabama beat LSU like a drum in Baton Rouge. Give me Oklahoma in that game.
01:33:29
Speaker
Okay. Okay. All right. And then the game that we refuse to say what, if we care who wins. Um, but Saturday night, that's another line that stinks Saturday night, seven 31 ABC,

Significance of Texas vs. Texas A&M

01:33:41
Speaker
Texas, number three, Texas favored by six, uh, at number 20, Texas A&M. So it is at Texas A&M to win games on the road. Jim.
01:33:51
Speaker
Well, and so here's the thing I'll say about this game. Like there's a lot more on the line for A and&M than Texas. So Texas A&M, you lose this game, you're eight and four and you're planning and playing in a low level or whatever, some kind of mid tier bowl game. You win this game, you go to the SEC championship with a chance to get a bye in the cultural fold. football playoff, like that's a crazy, you know, discrepancy there for them. So, whereas if Texas loses this game, I think, you know, they're, they're still in, they they miss the SEC championship, but they get, they're still in the playoff. Um, so so which scenario hurts Tennessee is Texas losing this game. Does that hurt Tennessee?
01:34:36
Speaker
a I mean, they both have two losses. So I don't know. Honestly, I'm not sure. I think I don't think you can really say that until you you have to get through the SEC Championship, I would say to really know. be yeah So here's here's how I got to answer that question, John.
01:34:53
Speaker
What would hurt Tennessee is if A&M wins the SEC, the whole thing. Like it beats us. That would hurt Tennessee because then you've got A and&M is gets an automatic bid with, with three losses on their schedule. That hurts Tennessee. I don't think this game, so technically I guess A and&M because they're still alive could in theory hurt Tennessee, but otherwise I don't think we're really bad. What would really hurt Tennessee is losing to Vandy. Correct. Correct. Yeah.
01:35:20
Speaker
gosh just just give me just give it give it to me come on guys give it to me um dude this this one is weird too because like texas basically i mean a game as we this is what like their second like ranked opponent or whatever in the SEC what out of that crazy is that um and it's on the road um so this is basically new territory for texas this season Uh, cause you know, they had us at home still couldn't beat us at even at their place. so So going on the road and this is the first time this game has been played in what 13 years. So it is going to be fun. As you were saying, having our game a day before sitting around, watch college football all day, Saturday. Uh, this will be a fun one to sit down and tune into Saturday night. Yeah. They're going to be, they're going to be, just both of these teams are going to be jazzed for this game.
01:36:09
Speaker
Yeah, I still think that, uh, see, I'm just looking at something real quick. I'm going to go with Texas. I still, I think, I think Texas finds a way to win it. Uh, yeah. Give me a, give me any, give me an M. So the reason, uh, what just, what just tipped, tipped the scales for me is just looking at their results. Um, the one thing that sticks out is in their, in their last few games, they, you know,
01:36:34
Speaker
They played close against Arkansas at Arkansas. They played close at Vanderbilt. Um, you know, at Vanderbilt, um, they beat the snot out of Florida, but Florida did not have lagway in that game. So I have a feeling that teams, so the the last several teams that they've played with the pulse, Georgia, Vanderbilt, Florida, Arkansas.
01:36:59
Speaker
Um, they kind of had, you know, they should have had a tougher time with Florida, but lagway wasn't playing. They had a tough time against Vandy and they had a tough time against Arkansas. Both of those games were on the road. Give me, give me A&M. Okay. Cool. All right, man. We had shape. We'll just add another, we'll just add another scalp to our, we'll just add another scalp to our, uh, to our pole or a belt or whatever. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. We'll have to make a, we'll have to make a grim reaper, you know, kind of thing.
01:37:28
Speaker
Nice. Nice. We made shaping up to be a nice weekend to college football. Uh, Friday night in Athens, as we said, we'll have to keep glasses on it and see what, uh, what the pregame ritual is there.

Thanksgiving Plans and Family Gatherings

01:37:41
Speaker
But, uh, what is, what is the wood? What is the wood plan for the weekend?
01:37:46
Speaker
We are heading to Kim's families. Uh, we're doing Thanksgiving with them. So we're heading over to big canoe on Wednesday. Uh, we'll be over there, um, for Thanksgiving. And then we'll be driving over to Nicholson and then, and then in an Athens on Friday. So that's the plan. Is the, is the whole, uh, Tariko clan coming too?
01:38:09
Speaker
Yes, they will. They're coming to the game. ah We will not be doing Thanksgiving. with Right. Right. Right. But yeah, right but the everybody's coming to the game. Yeah. And, uh, actually shout out to my niece, uh, Sophia, who was last week accepted into the university of Georgia. Um, so, uh, I think she'll be excited, excited to go to the game. and i should be like I'm coming here so then we can hit her up for student tickets in the future. Amazing. Amazing. So.
01:38:41
Speaker
Yeah, I think we I don't know that we've totally sorted out who all is and isn't going yet. But I think if anything, we're short on tickets. We'll work it out. We'll make it work. Yeah. So that's the plan. Is ah are is your is your whole family coming to is to the game? Kim and the girls? Well, see, Ella has no interest in the in going to the game. That's basically kind of where we're at. But Lily is like Lily is like, I i am going to the game.
01:39:06
Speaker
hu
01:39:10
Speaker
I think, uh, I don't know. We'll see how it all shakes out at one point. I was thinking it would be like, like both Kim and Lily would, would come to the game. I think that's probably still the case, but we'll see. We'll see how we work out a lot. Okay. Yeah. Kim, we hope to see, we hope to see all of the wood and Toriko family. That would be fun. That would be a fun festive holiday, uh, bonus.
01:39:33
Speaker
Yeah, yeah, for sure. For sure. Wait, especially for, especially for dog and Ponda. So I didn't get to see him last weekend. Yeah. I mean, I haven't seen you at a game yet this year. So um shoot that's right. Looking forward to it.
01:39:49
Speaker
I didn't even realize that. We we keep like alternate. That's true. we keep true we yeah we so Oh man. Hey, when, when my God, a podcast is all, I was all in town. Uh, that's a good thing. history history Good things tend to happen. History has shown Exactly. Cool man. Cool man. Well, we'll be we'll be coming in hot from Hilton Head. Are you bringing anything to, are you bringing anything for your in-laws Thanksgiving? yeah I keep asking. ah It is on the other side of the family. It's being handled on that side of the family. I don't know. i I've asked. I don't think so. I don't think so.
01:40:31
Speaker
Hey man, that's a good spot to be into not to worry about anything. Yeah. Well, I mean, yeah, we got to drive in. It's a long drive. Um, so yeah, I don't know. Unless that changed this evening. I know there was a conversation from what I recall. I don't think so. Yeah, I'll bring some bourbon. All right. Yeah. I bring the bourbon. There you go. There you go. You need to bring some of that Paragon bourbon that you're talking about. If you've got it, I do have it. Yeah. I've got, I mean, it's opened, but I've had a bottle. Nice.
01:41:00
Speaker
I'm very curious about it. That could be arranged. Cool, man. Cool. Well, um I'm going to look forward to seeing everybody and having a good time at the tailgate and, you know, pack your gloves, pack your pack your warm clothes and your long johns and your hot hands and come out, yell, be loud and go dogs. Go dogs.
