Spring Training & School Schedules

00:00:54
Speaker
We're back. And we're back.
00:01:00
Speaker
oh Good to be back. Good to be back.
00:01:05
Speaker
Yeah, man. I think that, uh, I can't, I think the last time we were, we recorded it was for the basketball, the basketball minute slash episode, right? that That's what it should have been named.
00:01:16
Speaker
The basketball minute slash episode. Yeah. Yeah. That was, that was, that was fun with Fletcher. Uh, thanks again, Fletcher. That was a blast. Um, yeah. NCAA tournament didn't go the way we, just as we predicted. Yeah.
00:01:35
Speaker
I two, three months later, two months later. oh man. Yeah. Wait, is this the NCAA tournament review of a said?
00:01:45
Speaker
Oh man. Um, yeah. I would like to say that. I like to say that we're, we're, we're in spring training, even though it's not spring anymore. True. I guess technically it is spring. I don't know when the first day of summer is, but, uh, all I know is that summer doesn't end. doesn't truly begin here in Cobb County until the kids are out of school.
00:02:03
Speaker
Yeah. Yeah. um We're in like, or at least Kim from a teaching perspective, they're doing like end of grade testing or whatever because she teaches eighth grade math. So they're doing EOGs all week here in North Carolina.
00:02:17
Speaker
um And then Ella's got even longer SCAD. So she's not out until like end of May. Yikes. Yeah. yeah Yeah. Generally speaking, summer doesn't start until June 1st for the record, Jim.
00:02:29
Speaker
Okay. Okay. Good to know. I didn't, I had no idea either. So that's good to know.

Meetups & World of Coke

00:02:33
Speaker
Um, but yeah, I mean, and I can't remember if we discussed last time, i guess we probably did that we had just gotten to hang out.
00:02:41
Speaker
So we've gotten to hang out like actually in person, like twice, you know, in the past few months, we had the, the dinner outing with John tweets sports, uh, We did. We went to Max and had a fantastic meal.
00:02:54
Speaker
yeah um Man, that was fun. That was fun. So that was i was able to make it make it up y'all's way um during our spring break ah ah spring break Atlanta extravaganza where we did all the touristy things.
00:03:09
Speaker
Hey, I had not been to the World of Coke in like forever i don't think i had been since it's where it is now like i dont i don't think i had been since it was like which is like a long time ago when it was like in the old building right um so yeah we did what we did that we did the aquarium we did the cultural hall of fame it was fun what was the popular beverage at the world's coke oh um and please tell me please tell me all the research that you've done to try to get it it was it was cucumber sprite and it was fantastic Cucumber Sprite. Okay. Yeah. It was so good. And where was it from?
00:03:41
Speaker
and want to say like Greece, maybe, Spain. That sounds on brand for Greece. But it was good. It was like really good. There were so many bad ones though.
00:03:53
Speaker
Yeah. There was one that even like the host, like the tour guide said, he's like, it like tastes like barbecue sauce. And it totally did. And it shouldn't have, like by the description. and it was, it was awful. I can't remember what it was, but it was really bad.
00:04:04
Speaker
The only thing I remember was, uh, I had some beverage from Africa the last time I was there. That was, that was pretty amazing. Okay. Yeah. Yeah. No, we've looked for the cucumber spread, but you couldn't find it.
00:04:14
Speaker
I would, I would definitely say the cultural hall of fame is fun. Um, so if you haven't been there, go check that out.

Spring Break Adventures

00:04:20
Speaker
That was, we had, well, I had a good time there and Lily drilled the field goal. Uh, I missed twice.
00:04:26
Speaker
Terrible. Yeah, it was bad. ah So what else did you guys do outside of โ€“ so you did the World of Coke. You did the College Football Hall of Fame. yeah did the the Tour de Marietta. Yes. We did the Aquarium.
00:04:42
Speaker
um And then before that, we did like we we did the Georgia basketball regular season finale um against Vanderbilt. So we had gone to that game. that Lily did a campus tour.
00:04:54
Speaker
ah She has expressed interest in possibly going to Georgia. ah So still only a sophomore in high school. But so we did that. um And then we came down, we went to Big Canoe and then came your way.
00:05:07
Speaker
And then we did like a circle. Then we went down to Savannah and picked up Ella because her spring break was the following week. ah So she came home. uh,

Busy Schedules & Work Commitments

00:05:16
Speaker
for that week. We've since bat been back to Savannah again and we've hung out again.
00:05:20
Speaker
So we got to see, we got to hang out at G day and then, uh, like a week or two after we were down for a family weekend in Savannah at SCAD. So we've been, we've been, I feel like, I know it's been a while since we've recorded, but I feel like we've been so busy. Like so much has been going on.
00:05:37
Speaker
Uh, time is like flying by. It really is. Like, and it feels like that we're going to be kicking off, kicking off for next season here, like really soon. Yeah. i Time is flying by with the kids.
00:05:50
Speaker
Time is flying by with work. I feel like as well. um Work is probably also helping things to feel fast. under know that you've been working on some exciting stuff too. Yeah. Yeah. um I have. It's been, it's been fun, man. Are we, are we still on double secret probation?
00:06:06
Speaker
no
00:06:09
Speaker
No, no. I mean, there's no secret per provision, but yeah. Um, my, my company, was was pretty involved with the TGL this year. Uh, so that was big. And then we're and official technology partner of the PGA of America. we've got a lot of stuff going on for me and the whole company this week, uh, PGA championship is in Charlotte this week.
00:06:31
Speaker
um so we've got a lot of like activations and and stuff going on. there this week. So yeah, so it's been, it's been, it's been super busy, but it's been, it's been cool, like fun work. So it's been cool.
00:06:43
Speaker
that That is really cool to see stuff that you're working on live on the TV. Hey, I did that. Right. Right. Yeah. I hope like to make that.
00:06:55
Speaker
Yeah. So it's been fun. It's been fun.

G-Day Tailgate Recap

00:06:57
Speaker
Good stuff, man. Well, I can tell you that, uh, our G day extravaganza was, um, was super fun. I got up there a lot later than I was expecting to, which I feel like is like rinse repeat for any attempts to try to get to Athens super early.
00:07:13
Speaker
um yeah. Yeah. But yeah yeah, it was fun. It was fun there. um Obviously, brought Sari Carter up. ah and my ah youngest was there as well, I believe, if I remember correctly.
00:07:26
Speaker
ah camp Camden was there. She was like super famous because she was on the Jumbotron multiple times. That's right. That's right.
00:07:35
Speaker
And she showed up at G-Day and her only goals were to get a pom-pom and to get on the big screen. And she got on the big screen many, many times. I like i kept texting you. i was like, oh my gosh, she's on the big screen again.
00:07:50
Speaker
uh and i was like i was like like tapping like my whole family around us so uh because what we were there mom and dad were there uh my sister and my niece sophia uh who this last weekend was in georgia again because we went to her high school graduation party she's going to georgia in the fall um and then uh kim and lily and i were there and i was like i was like that's game done that's game done she's on the jumbo drone
00:08:14
Speaker
ah So it was good that we had just seen y'all right before then. um got to say, man, like the G day tailgate was pretty incredible. um It's pretty cool to have a group that can show out in that quantity and quality for the spring game.
00:08:32
Speaker
Like that big group picture we took was like, there was lot of people there. There's a lot of people. I came rolling in. That was basically like, I think I grabbed a beverage and then like took the picture.
00:08:48
Speaker
Yeah. Yeah. I know. Well, and like we were, Lily was like itching to get into the game. Cause we were kind of cutting it close for G day kickoff. And, uh, we were like, I think, I think you got convinced us to not go into the game yet and to stick around for the picture.
00:09:02
Speaker
Which was a good call because that was an awesome picture. Yeah. you go yeah Anytime you can get like a group picture like that with like a billion people in it, it's super, super good. i think about the picture of of that we all took with John and and his brother and Chuck and Rodeo and all those guys. It's a great picture.
00:09:22
Speaker
from From last fall. like That's one of my favorite tailgate pictures. It's super fun. Yeah. Yeah. It was good. My, I think my, my mom, my mom posted that picture on, on Facebook and was like, this is how we tailgate in Athens.
00:09:35
Speaker
And I was like, oh yeah. Honda's famous tailgate picture. Amazing. Honda's famous tailgate. Exactly. Yeah, dude. G day was great, man. That was fun. um I got a shout out, uh, Greg's son for making us the azaleas at the tailgate.
00:09:50
Speaker
That's pretty sweet. I didn't get there in in time for the Azaleas, but it was during Masters week, and that was also pretty fun too. yeah nas Masters was a good time in general. Rory McIlroy, I had been rooting for him to complete his slam, cool.
00:10:07
Speaker
that was that was cool Yeah. Yeah. I was, I was all in on, on Rory as well. Always good to see, uh, someone complete a lengthy journey like that. Did that career slam was, that was awesome.
00:10:19
Speaker
And, um, don't know, he definitely added some drama for us on Sunday, but this is not a golf podcast, but, uh, but yeah, he, uh, he made it entertaining. Yeah, seriously. Anytime you can do something that only like what five other people have done in the history right of your of your sport, which the history of the sport is really long, longer than a lot of American sports.
00:10:42
Speaker
um So I don't know.

Concerts & G-Day Game Impressions

00:10:44
Speaker
I think that's that's pretty awesome. Yeah. Yeah. No, it was great. It was it was a great weekend. um the and multiple folks from the Huggins clan were decked out in master's gear. Edgy day.
00:10:56
Speaker
appreciated that. Uh, it was a good time. Good day. Getting to see everyone out there. Um, And then we hung around because it was that was right for my sister's, right around my sister's birthday. And then we went out Saturday night after G day. We went to the kitchen, Phony. We went and saw kitchen, Phony Cowboys at the foundry, which Greg was at that as well.
00:11:16
Speaker
um Saw Greg and rodeo at that. So that was a good time. That was a good time. And Krishna, Krishna and her husband were there. So it was a good time. That's awesome. I wish that I wish that I could have gotten, gotten to the the kitchen, Phony concert, because that sounds like a lot of fun too.
00:11:30
Speaker
It was good. we had We had a good time. Lily claims that was her first concert, even though it wasn't, but she's like... What was her first concert, Jim? Uh, I mean, see, this is where she like says that that didn't count.
00:11:43
Speaker
And like that the things that she had seen. Uh, I mean, I would probably say it was Idina Menzel. Does that count? Does that count? I mean, was at like an actual venue. So, okay. Yeah. I mean, that, that is a, an artist.
00:11:57
Speaker
Right. Was that a venue? Right. It was at like an outdoor songs. It was like an amphitheater, you know, outdoor place up here in Charlotte. And you bought tickets for this? We didn't buy them. We got them for free, but there were, you did have to buy tickets. Yeah. have a ticket yeah Yeah. Yeah. We just got kind of like, like it was actually, uh, off the rails, uh, back at the time we, there was, uh, oh man, now I'm even trying to remember what the name of the group is. so Um, uh, all pro dads.
00:12:25
Speaker
So all pro dads. Yeah. It's like, like, I think Tony Dungy like started it on G's thing. Yeah. Yeah. Uh, so it was through the guy that was like the, what you call it. Like he ran like the chapter, I guess you would say like at our element elementary school where the but girls were both in school at the time.
00:12:40
Speaker
Um, he works for, i don't know, the, the company that runs that venue or whatever. So he got us, he had extra tickets and got them through him. So sweet.
00:12:51
Speaker
Yeah. It has all the making, has all the markings of of the concert. Sorry. but Yeah, seriously. Yeah. JP has ruled you have been a concert before. You have been to a concert before. Motion to die.
00:13:04
Speaker
Nice. I don't know that don't know that Carter has been to a concert, but I know my oldest has been to a concert. um She went to but her first concert was Luke Combs.
00:13:16
Speaker
Okay. Luke Combs, but the Rome Amphitheater. what What was your for first concert? Do you remember your first concert was? Oh, golly.
00:13:27
Speaker
ah i don't know, actually. i can't think i can't think off the top of my head what my first concert was. I'm not a big concert person in general. If my sister is listening, she's yelling at the podcast because she would say my first, although now I'm going to get what this was wrong.
00:13:45
Speaker
But there were two concerts that I went to when I was like way too young to go to this. It was stuff my sister wanted to go to. And I went to, and it was like, she and like her friend and like me. And then he's like my mom or dad at one of them.
00:13:57
Speaker
We saw like we saw Madonna. And then we also saw George Michael. I think these were two different concerts. This is where my memory gets fuzzy. I've, They were two different, but which order did they come in? I'm not entirely sure.
00:14:08
Speaker
So you' you've heard Careless Whisper live and in concert. Oh, yeah. Yeah, for sure. I don't specifically remember hearing that song, but I'm sure that I did. I fell asleep. I was way, like I said, i was too young. It went too late for me.
00:14:21
Speaker
I fell asleep, not because it was entertaining, but because I was a kid and I was super tired. That's funny Good times Anyways, so hey G-Day is Was there anything to glean from the game For you?
00:14:36
Speaker
Or even, I don't know Stadium vibes and such or anything? I mean, it's tough to gauge the stadium vibes on G-Day, particularly a Masters G-Day week. Yeah, yeah. So the stadium was not as full as it was.
00:14:50
Speaker
Tickets were $10, which was obviously a nice appeal. i always tell people that G-Day is one of the most underrated weekends on the UGA sports calendar, um particularly the UGA football calendar.
00:15:02
Speaker
Yeah. Just because it's such a laid back vibe, the weather is always super nice. Um... It was awesome for this game. The weather was phenomenal.
00:15:14
Speaker
Yeah. Like I think I remembered, um you know, possibly being worried that it was going to be too chilly. Yeah. um Which it's been it's been pretty chilly in Atlanta.
00:15:25
Speaker
You guys came to Atlanta and brought all the cold weather with you here this past week. Oh my gosh. And we were not prepared, by the way. ah Did not bring appropriate attire for the weekend.
00:15:36
Speaker
And we yeah, we froze this past weekend. What was that all about? It's not that cold here in Charlotte. I don't know, man, but ah um I'll take it. I'll take it because it's been nice out. Yeah. I was sitting for a buddy and I was like, hey, can have a fire outside outside in the patio? And he's like, yeah, totally. Nice. I was like, why are you having fire?
00:15:55
Speaker
And was like, well, it's really Yeah. It's like 58 degrees outside. Yeah. well it's it's it's really cold yeah like fifty eight degrees He goes, oh, heck yeah. yeah i Yeah. I mean, I i like wore pants and I

Quarterback Concerns & Game Reflections

00:16:08
Speaker
had like a light jacket to G-Day and that was perfectly comfortable. was great.
00:16:14
Speaker
Yeah, that was my Saturday, actually. I and had a fire outside and I watched ah what UGA play Alabama in the national championship. and That was great when you were texting pictures of that. That's always a good watch.
00:16:27
Speaker
Yeah.
00:16:30
Speaker
Dude, P.S. Oh my gosh, totally off the rails. and I don't know. maybe maybe i' just and Maybe if I go back and listen to the review episode, I would say this, but I was kind of fast-forwarding little bits in here there.
00:16:42
Speaker
Yeah. um Dude, I don't remember. I totally forgot how awful our offensive line was the first half of that Oh, in that game? Dude, we couldn't do anything on offense. you to So this is where like i'm pretty I'm pretty sure. So I have like a super old phone. like I still have like an iPhone 11 that I got.
00:17:00
Speaker
um I mean, had this one for like five years. um And i like <unk> i'm in I'm at the point now where like I keep running out of space. And so and like if I look at why my phone is so full of stuff, it's pictures and text messages.
00:17:14
Speaker
um And it's also like because like our text messages, people are going to be shocked to hear that we send a lot of GIFs to each other back and forth into our group chats and everything. So that's like what's taking up all space.
00:17:25
Speaker
But i brit I bet I could go to my phone and like scroll back to the texts from our group chat during the first half of the game. And I guarantee you it was like Meltdown City. Whatever.
00:17:39
Speaker
We were in complete meltdown mode. i because I feel like it was one of those things where like, and like when whenever that happens, there's like one of us that like tries to keep everyone else calm. And like, so I can't even remember who that was. Cause I feel like at one point I was trying to do that, but then I got mad about something. And then like, it was either like you were Hunter, like Jim, it's fine.
00:18:00
Speaker
hello dude speaking of like remember like the devastating text message that i would send you like i accidentally deleted our text thread you had me back and you're like oh i lost all these gifts
00:18:17
Speaker
oh that is the best when you'll text me like dude i can't find this one gif can you send it to me hold on
00:18:26
Speaker
yeah inside baseball about what we talk about when we text each other oh man anyways um about the game i would say i would say that the the offensive line is very concerning I would also say that the quarterback position is concerning um and don't know how much do you take away from that particular game because there's always yeah There's always that one one character, which I guess, was it Dylan Bell's brother that was the star of the... the i think it was the know I think it was the third Bell.
00:19:03
Speaker
And I told you that was Dylan Bell's brother, but it wasn't. We have three Bells. i have three Bells? Yeah, which we are at content ideas.
00:19:14
Speaker
but We got to get some content. got to get some content for those. Yeah. We have, we have ideas. Yes. um Yeah. Other than that, I would say that um the receivers looked a lot better than they have in the past.
00:19:31
Speaker
But there's all, but you know, yes you say that with a grain of salt, because it's like, I feel like there's always a wide receiver that has a breakout and G day. And it's like, you never hear from them again. I will say that it was concerning to see like, oh my gosh, this guy's wide open over the middle and and Gunner like throws it like 15 yards past him.
00:19:50
Speaker
And then Puglisi would get in there and do the same thing. Sure. Sure. i I think i think're talking about going back and looking at text, I feel like ah everybody would be like, all right, so... Are we, are we portaling for a quarterback now? Like what's going on?
00:20:05
Speaker
Right. Right. I'm sure that was texted at some point. um I don't know. Yeah. I'm, I'm, I'm just kind of of the opinion. Yeah. Like you can't, can't really take a lot from that. Cause I mean, we're also like not really running our offense, you know, like we're just like throwing it up like a lot, which we don't do that.
00:20:24
Speaker
um So I don't know. um the the the one The one time there was a breakout wide receiver that actually panned out was A.D. a d Mitchell, oddly enough.
00:20:35
Speaker
um Remember that, like his first G-Day game, like he kind of went off was like, whoa, who's this guy? I don't know. It's possible. um I was trying to look for something. I think that, um, Micah Bell.
00:20:48
Speaker
Micah Bell. That's, that's, sorry. So that that's, that's Dylan's brother. It was Jeremy Bell. Um, who's actually Richard freshman. He was the one that caught that one long pass. So he's the third bell.
00:20:58
Speaker
I just got some more content ideas actually. Nice.
00:21:03
Speaker
Um, I will say that, uh, my seat selection, ah was pretty epic for the scoring opportunities. Cause I feel like all the touchdowns were scored, like basically coming in our direction towards the, yeah the end zone that your parents sit in, which is, which is it? south which which and I just like to say it's the enclosed end zone.
00:21:24
Speaker
The enclosed end zone. yeah Correct. mean, I guess it's the more, i guess it's South. Yeah. I would say it's South. I think it's 12. The one that faces the Jumbotron. Yeah. and was also nicely shaded, which was part of my goal there.
00:21:39
Speaker
um Yeah, my my thing with the whole quarterback situation, especially like here for for Gunner, is like it's hard to evaluate Gunner when he when ye essentially can't run in a spring game.
00:21:53
Speaker
So I feel like that just takes away. And Ian knew he would he ran a couple of times, and like they still try to run in that game, but it's two-hand touch on the quarterback. So like i don't yeah I don't take a lot from it. Yeah, there was one. I remember there was one. I was like, oh, in a real game, he would have totally broken away from that. Right, right. Exactly. So there's essentially no threat of the run, which I feel like that's part of the things that part of what people have to plan for it for him. So we'll see.
00:22:15
Speaker
Conversely, I felt like there was a lot of law a lot of them where I would have been like, oh, in a real game, he gets killed. Oh, yeah. Yes. Yes, definitely. Definitely. I agree. You're not wrong. So anyway, I think G Day was great. It was good for what it is. Like i said, it's it's great to bring little children to, which is always fun to see. I saw a set of parents.
00:22:37
Speaker
Yeah. place a newborn baby on the ground underneath them. And like, literally just like the baby is just like, just, just sitting there, just sitting there, not, not doing anything just underneath the bleachers.
00:22:52
Speaker
I just thought that was funny. Like, so that the parents could hang out and and get a breather watching Georgia football, which is, you know, I, there's a lot of kids there. It's great. Like I said, it's yeah my daughter made some friends while she was there and,
00:23:06
Speaker
Carter and I were able to hang out and and watch the game, and it was it was fun. G-Day is a great experience if you are ever trying to figure out, oh, I don't know if I want to drive up there. I mean, for me, it's like an hour and a half, two hours to to get over there.
00:23:21
Speaker
And, yeah. yeah it's ah It's totally worth it to get up there. Try to get up there as early as you can. And even though the games, I think i think games like, didn't kick off at like one. i can't even remember. But like, it's not a it's not a night game, obviously. But, um you know, it's early enough to where you can get up there and have a wonderful a wonderful day, wonderful morning, and wonderful afternoon in Athens. And just have a good time.
00:23:46
Speaker
Yeah, yeah, for sure. Cool. Good times we had. This is the amazing Layla. Oh, yes. Amazing. Hey, Layla. Layla.
00:23:58
Speaker
That's exactly what I sing all

Listener Questions & Funny Moments

00:24:02
Speaker
day with her. The question is, do we leave me singing that note in the podcast or not? Or does that get edited out? We will see. if you If you leave it in there, i I'll definitely send it to Neil because he's a Georgia Tech alumni. And I'll be sure to let him know that his dog was featured on a UGA podcast.
00:24:20
Speaker
Amazing. i had I had one random thing that I wanted to make sure that you had seen today before we get to listener questions. Okay. Have you seen the Kirby Smart, like the Braves thing? Yes.
00:24:33
Speaker
Yes. I believe that they tweeted that out, like not just today, like they tweeted it out like a couple of days ago, I feel like. and um See, I missed it. I didn't see it until today. i have maybe Unless they did new one.
00:24:45
Speaker
I don't know. the i remember the first one and I remember tweeting out but um remember tweeting out that this isn't a real Kirby Smart speech because there's not any F-bombs in it.
00:24:56
Speaker
True. true Fair. i actually actually assumed that someone was going to dub in his... is yeah You've been working on this for 365 minutes!
00:25:13
Speaker
ah the big be Blooper, you don't have to be nervous as s*** See, that actually would be good ah be good I know, right?
00:25:23
Speaker
More content just just just Just overlay the his actual speech um yeah Yeah So if you haven't see it seen any of those You gotta follow the Braves on the socials Funny Kirby Smart stuff going on Actually, i guess I could play the audio Hold on I want you to eat. I want to see you eat.
00:25:44
Speaker
Do you want eat? I want to see you eat. And Blueberry, how about you? I need you to want to eat. I need to see you eat.
00:25:54
Speaker
So random. Okay, so that's a new one. Yeah. there was ah There was another one from a few days ago they posted as well. See, now that one actually would be perfect yeah to do with... All I want to do...
00:26:09
Speaker
Like he just like, it's hard. It's, it's, it's hard for me to listen to that because I know what they're really like. You know what mean? Right. Right. Uh, that's good. I, I mean, like, I feel like I'm kind of surprised that that's out there.
00:26:25
Speaker
but' Like they got him to do that. Like, don't know. I mean, it's amazing, but I mean, I mean, I'm not surprised because it's just, it's all part of the master plan to take over Atlanta. Yeah.
00:26:38
Speaker
That's true. It doesn't hurt the Gruden, I suppose. this isn't This is our town. Yeah. Yeah. All right. Well, I wanted to make sure we hit on that. butt Bonus, we got the ah we got the audio in, too.
00:26:49
Speaker
hadn't even thought that. We did get the audio. So more ah more inside baseball. um When we were talking about recording, I think you texted me. Yeah.
00:27:00
Speaker
Our text exchange went something like this. Hey, I can still record tonight if you can. Yeah, I can. Topics? And i was like, let's ask the people. So ah this is the mailbag portion ah presented by Working Web Media.
00:27:16
Speaker
Go check out Working Web Media. was hanging out with Working Web Media ah this past weekend. So head over to workingwebmedia.com slash dogs and get help with your your website, your online presence.
00:27:30
Speaker
Yeah, absolutely. And they're good people. They are good people. Good people. All right. First listener question. We've got Brett building and the building bonus TMTMTM.
00:27:41
Speaker
First, why are we going seven and five? And is it because Nolan Smith is writing Josh Pate's rankings? Which like, what is going on with Josh Pate's rankings? I don't know, man. I need, didn't he, did he actually post a video?
00:27:54
Speaker
Um, probably i haven't seen it. I think somebody said that and it what was like, it was a post spring rankings. I think he's, as someone said that if, um, post spring, but he said something like if they were playing this week, George would be higher or something. i don't exactly until i know what that means, but.
00:28:11
Speaker
Oh, sounds like quite a word salad for, I need ad click revenue. Yeah. Right, right. ah Craig was all in somebody's replies today talking about that Josh Bates is a Bama fan.
00:28:22
Speaker
So, which I i mean is true. So, whatever. um i don I don't know, man. any Any rational person can look at those rankings and just say, hey, come on, guys.
00:28:34
Speaker
It's Kirby Smartest Georgia. Yeah. I don't think that we necessarily deserve to be like top three or even maybe even I could arguably say top five, but like 11.
00:28:44
Speaker
Right. And behind Florida. Yeah, it it was behind Oklahoma. It was I felt pretty egregious. And like yeah well Alabama was like three. I think it felt personal. it felt personal Yeah.
00:28:57
Speaker
Well, you know, I mean, you know, you know, Nolan Smith, and you know, Kirby Smart are going to use it. Like, I mean, thank you. Like, I'm glad that's out there. That's perfect. Please write in our hands.
00:29:08
Speaker
I love it. Agreed. So yeah, I think that's a good reasoning as to why we're going and seven, seven to five. Cause we always are. Um, that's whatever all the people are always saying.

Georgia's Sports Position & Player Potential

00:29:17
Speaker
Yeah. Um, let's see from Brett, how many sec and national championship teams do we need in one school year to declare Georgia and everything's cool?
00:29:26
Speaker
Hmm. I mean, I feel like we're more the everything school than these other schools to claim it. Like, what is it? I mean, Tennessee is what tries to say it. Right. I think that the unspoken terminology is that we're, that these, these schools that say that they're in everything school are the ones that are like, I guess the quiet part out loud is the undertones that are being spoken is like the men's sports, because I think that they're looking at basketball, football, baseball, um track and field, even I would say, i don't know.
00:30:02
Speaker
I'm trying to think out loud here. But like the a lot of the men's sports, you don't ever hear them bragging about equestrian or, you know, swimming or diving or tennis or any of these other things. But like yeah UGA has got people competing for those or softball, you know, but I feel like softball is not in that.
00:30:18
Speaker
So you're saying or soccer. We're an actual everything school, whereas other schools claim to be either everything schools, but they're being selective and not factoring in their sports.
00:30:29
Speaker
Gotcha. Yeah. yeah Yeah. that makes That makes sense. I mean, i would agree with that. I mean, I think like, I'm trying to think like there is ah some sort of metric that looks at like cross all the sports. remember like when when we were school, it was always like Stanford was always the best of that.
00:30:43
Speaker
Yeah. it's the president's cup. Yeah. So. I feel like, I mean, in the SEC, yeah. i but Tennessee is the one generally generally people are talking about because the other ones are like, we're in everything school when it's really just like men's baseball and basketball, but they've still never made it to the Final Four.
00:30:59
Speaker
And we have. Yeah, seriously. So I agree, Brett. I'd say we're all we are already there. It is called the, oh, no, it's the Director's Cup. Director's Cup. That's what That's what it is.
00:31:10
Speaker
It's not called the, as yeah, the Director's Cup is the one that they're looking at. Gotcha. Gotcha. All right. ah Let's hit the next one up. We got Bobby Wilson. Bobby had a couple. He said, can Gunner get it done?
00:31:23
Speaker
Then he said, yes. And why? mean, don't know. I guess we talked a little bit about Gunner earlier. i mean, I just feel like it all comes back to his focus on friends, family, and cows personally. But I don't know if that's just me.
00:31:35
Speaker
Yeah. I would say that, yeah. Give me the guy that shows up to work in the
00:31:44
Speaker
1980s Ford F-150 and yeah. yeah yeah i'm not And it's more importantly not doing any TikTok dances. Jeez Louise.
00:31:54
Speaker
We it to send some five-star recruits. we we made it i don't know I don't know what the buyer's remorse policy is on that. but ah um I would say, too, like I know like some people are kind of like, ah yeah the the Sugar Bowl and this and that. But like i mean that was a tough draw for your first start.
00:32:13
Speaker
I mean, Notre Dame went all the way to the National Championship game. um And ultimately, mean, Gunnar played pretty well, I would say, in that game. So, yeah, I think Gunnar, I think he can get it done. And I think a lot of it, too, is give ah gets back to the Georgia kid.
00:32:31
Speaker
um I mean, locker room leadership stuff matters a lot in college. I think especially now, ah that's still true. um And just hearing all the messaging that was coming from the players leading up to that game, he's got their buy-in and that goes a long way in college football.
00:32:49
Speaker
So that's my take. Yeah. I don't know. I think that, I think it's, I think it's, it's, it's the incumbent is, is always going to have the leg up.
00:33:00
Speaker
yeah yeah and it's kind of like what uh what was it um was it gerald ford that took over i can't remember the there there was a there was a guy that took over for the presidency and then and it had never been elected or something like that but like you know gunner obviously got thrust into the starting role just because carson beck got hurt um But yeah, I would say that he is he has ascended that throne, whether it's by earning it or default.
00:33:34
Speaker
you know your Your mileage may vary on how you feel about it. But at the end of the day, he was the starter. He ended the season as the starter, played a great game against Notre Dame. um i think the job is his until he shows me otherwise.
00:33:47
Speaker
And more importantly, like if Kirby Smart says that he's the guy, he's the guy. Yeah. I think that as we've learned is that the guy that is not starting is not starting for a reason.
00:34:01
Speaker
You know, I would say that there's probably a subset of audience out there, myself included, that really wanted to see Rashada um given a shot and, you know, tried to let him try to let him play, but um he never played.
00:34:16
Speaker
yeah I never played. he he was a He was one of those guys that you know that was highly recruited on the the team that's ranked ahead of us in the preseason rankings.
00:34:27
Speaker
um So, yeah. Anyway, I think that that's... I think Gunnar can get it done. i think he can get it done because he has the makings of it.
00:34:38
Speaker
And i actually think that based on everything that I've seen from Pogresi, I think that he could probably also get it done. It's just a matter of who Kirby trots out there to to start.
00:34:49
Speaker
And if for some reason he believes that that guy is not going to be the best chance for them to win a game, then they'll trot someone else out there that that is. Yeah. i'm I'm of the opinion that Kirby Smart has paid millions and millions of dollars to figure that out.
00:35:07
Speaker
Sorry, Carter. Sorry, Carter. Yeah. I will say that alluding to... ah We're going to pivot to his next next question. Sure. Yeah. the Assess the two newest dogs, future impact, and how big it is to get both Curtis and Cantwell.
00:35:23
Speaker
Bobby added he could provide some insight here. Insider Bobby has entered the chat. Insider Bobby. Yeah. I would say that Cantwell is probably going to be the biggest, the most important component to that.
00:35:34
Speaker
I am of the opinion, increasingly so, that the more large human beings that we can get on our roster, on both the offense and defense, are going to be much bigger.
00:35:47
Speaker
and ah They're going to be much bigger signals of how far we're able to take a ah team, regardless of who's that quarterback. Because Let's not forget we had Jake Fromm take us to a national championship.
00:36:00
Speaker
People didn't like him as a quarterback. And we had Stetson Bennett ah take us to back-to-back national championships as a quarterback. And people weren't happy about him either. um wasn't exactly the Neither one of them were the most heralded people and recruited quarterbacks in the world.
00:36:18
Speaker
Curtis by and large is coming to UGA as one of the, you know, and think he, I think he's, isn't he like one of the highest rated quarterbacks to come through here? Yeah, I think so.
00:36:29
Speaker
I mean, he's like five-star everything. I mean, he's, you know, he's Mr. Five-star. I don't know. I'm, Like I said, I think that the offensive line is more important. I also think that the offensive line is more important because ah I am not one to ignore the data, but in modern era of college football, we have not had any quarterbacks lead the University of Georgia.
00:36:51
Speaker
to a national championship or SEC championship that are not from the state of Georgia. Yeah. Yeah. So yeah, you want, that's, that's, that's call back to the first part of his question.
00:37:02
Speaker
Why can Gunnar get it done? He is from UG. He is from Georgia. Yeah, yeah, for sure. um And then Bobby rounded it out with how much better is the offensive line and will we run the ball like a normal UGA team again?
00:37:16
Speaker
I will say that was one of my things last year, like heading in, like people like, you know, like just random people, but like, Hey, like, what are you, what are you worried about? know, do you think about Georgia? And I pointed to the running back room last year, like that was a big concern and,
00:37:29
Speaker
I think the reaction I got from most people was like, oh, like modern football, it doesn't matter anymore. I don't know man. Like, I think it mattered. um So I don't, I don't know. and don't know yet. um i mean, I think, you know, I would feel better about it if ETN had come back, which by the way, ETN, Carolina Panther, Lily was like so happy about that. He's like freaking out.
00:37:50
Speaker
ah So that was, that was a fun time. um And by the way, the Falcons actually drafted a Georgia player in the first round for the first time. We got Jalen Walker. So Jalen Walker, Atlanta Falcons. Um, but I mean, i mean, i love, i love Frazier.
00:38:03
Speaker
Um, I, you know, I think he's really good, but I think we generally tend to play a lot of backs. Um, are we going to have, can we have that, you know, three headed monster that we like to have under Kirby smart?
00:38:20
Speaker
Um, I think, I think we need that just as much as the offensive line, uh, to run the ball. Like we'd like to see George run the ball. So, We'll see. Yeah, I would say that um I don't know that the offensive line is better. um we're losing We're losing a lot of guys i have I have my doubts, man.
00:38:43
Speaker
Stacey Searles is not the person that instills. He does not spark joy along the offensive line. And as far as running the ball, outside of what what Jim just said about, you know, we've got some guys back there, but I just don't think that they are going to be the guys that can take the ball, you know, 30, 40 times, however many times you you want to talk about it. like Right. even if we even Even if you go back to the the Sonny Michelle and Nick Chubb, I don't think that anybody on this roster is either one of those players.
00:39:18
Speaker
Yeah. Although beau Walker has a great name, but you can't get much better name. Like, like you, ah you almost have to give that kid number 34. I'm just saying. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, I mean, and he's one of the ones that I hear you hear ah about. Like he's one of the ones that Graham has written about. um yeah He's getting a lot of he's getting a lot of positive, you know, positive feedback about he's impossible to tackle.
00:39:43
Speaker
Dude, I would love to see that. Like i right now, I need someone to show me. We're in show me. We're in show me mode for both the offensive line and the running game. Yeah. Yeah.
00:39:53
Speaker
I'm with you. right, let's kick it over to friend of the show, Tim Riley.

Freshmen Impact & Stadium Upgrades

00:39:57
Speaker
ah He checks in immediate impact freshmen and Athens restaurants to eat at during a hypothetical visit to see my freshman daughter, Godox.
00:40:06
Speaker
ah Which, congrats there. um Yet another Bulldog heading off Athens in the fall. Congrats to all of the UGA-bound kids I also love that a friend of the show, Tim Riley threw in hypothetical visit.
00:40:22
Speaker
Cause the, the tweet was worded hypothetically for you recorded an episode. What should we talk about? Hypothetically? Of course. suddenly what was like
00:40:33
Speaker
I gotta go. i gotta to go with my Milton guys. Um, for impact freshmen. Uh, so I don't know either like CJ Wiley or Ethan Barber, which I Barber. Holy cow.
00:40:47
Speaker
Big dude. He's a big boy. Yeah, I would say that um as far as true freshman, I'm going to go the other tight end, Ellis Williams.
00:40:57
Speaker
um He is an even larger... Big boy. um I'll be curious to see like what happens because you know ah one of the things that I'm going to use him as a harken back to the national championship.
00:41:11
Speaker
One thing that I did notice in the national championship rewatch was that um Darnell Washington was very much involved in that game, even though he was...
00:41:23
Speaker
You didn't see him on the on the um the spreadsheet or whatever from a stats perspective, but the dude was out there making impacts. yeah I think he actually had the one, like ah a crucial first down catch um that extended a drive where we absolutely needed something something to get going, and and he was the one that kicked that off.
00:41:43
Speaker
Um, he has the frame of a Darnell Washington. Ellis is six, six, two 55. So he's basically going to be another, another offensive lineman out there at that size. Right.
00:41:56
Speaker
Yeah. I would say that he, he's, he kind of makes me interesting. Uh, tail and Taylor, taylor another five-star recruit. Um, it's been kind of heralded, but you also mentioned CJ Wiley. Um,
00:42:11
Speaker
and That is interesting to me because of where he hails from. Kids from Louisiana and those Louisiana wide receivers tend to be really good. So yeah those would be those would be guys that i'm I'm going to be looking for from ah from a breakout standpoint.
00:42:25
Speaker
Yeah, yeah. From Louisiana originally, but played at Milton High School, my alma mater. I'm just talking about DNA, my friend. ah good, all good. those guys Those guys from Baton Rouge, Louisiana, historically, like I feel like I feel like a and probably could run a search for it, but how many of those kids from Louisiana end up being like just all-world wide receivers, right? Right, right.
00:42:49
Speaker
All right, let's see here. Next up, we've got Tricia Ann. ah She had a few. I think some of them we've already talked about. um I feel like the first one is easy. The likelihood of black jerseys this season.
00:43:03
Speaker
Uh, I would say that, uh, it's better than 0%, but not much more. i was actually looking at the, i was, I was looking at the soundboard. I'd apparently I don't have on there anymore, or maybe I never did somewhere. There's like a Kirby just saying zero.
00:43:21
Speaker
don't I just, I'll believe it when I see it. it Last year, we' played Georgia Tech on Black Friday, and we didn't wear black jerseys, so I just don't really think about it anymore. um Then we talked about Gunner. She she said ah stadium upgrades and the benefits, and now this is where I'm like in off-season mode and wondering if I missed something.
00:43:41
Speaker
I don't know what else we changed this year from last year. cause I know there were a lot of changes last year, so I'm not sure. may have to do some digging on that. there anything you can think of? Cause I know they like redid the whole like press box and there was all that stuff, you know, um, on the bridge side, but that stuff was there last year.
00:43:58
Speaker
So I don't know. What are they doing? i don't know what upgrades and benefits they've done. and don't know. Yeah, not sure. I will say um G-Day, everything was great.
00:44:10
Speaker
ah Concessions and everything were open and and running. um It was great. I had an easy time getting everything. so I would agree. I would agree with that. I would say that, uh, yeah, black jerseys, no upgrades.
00:44:24
Speaker
I'm not really sure about all that. Um, the big one of of her questions that i do want to know the answer to that. I have not figured this out yet. Um, but it'll come out eventually. And that's what is the season's catchphrase?
00:44:36
Speaker
Um, I haven't caught wind of it yet, but I'm, I feel like we're at about the time of the year where that kind of stuff starts to trickle out. So, you know Kirby speaks at some event and someone asked a question and he, his answer includes like when Greg and I went and saw Kirby a few years back.
00:44:53
Speaker
um Yeah. That, that was where we we were, where we heard one of those come out. That was the better never rest. um So yeah, I'm sure there's one of those, We'll hear about soon.
00:45:05
Speaker
and think I think would say the latest you hear about that is probably sec media days, but I feel like the last couple of years we've heard before. I'm sure that the media team will drop another banger video for us. Yeah. Yeah. And he'll like, so he'll, he'll slip it in on one of the, on one of the, the, the non mandatory workouts or whatever. Right.
00:45:24
Speaker
Right. For sure. Yeah. Okay. ah Let's see. We can hit GATA. um He said, with Texas versus Texas A&M being moved to Friday, November 28th at 7.30 p.m. this year, should clean old-fashioned hate move back to Saturday?
00:45:41
Speaker
An afternoon game on a Friday at Mercedes-Benz just doesn't seem right for this matchup. Either way, the hell with Tech and Texas. ah We were texted about this the other day because I think John had informed us in the text thread that this Texas versus A&M game had moved to Friday.
00:45:58
Speaker
And my initial reaction was like, ugh, whatever. like That was kind of our thing. Copycats. Yeah. I will say, though, like I guess maybe it depends on like what... We don't know for sure when our game is going to be yet.
00:46:11
Speaker
Time. As far as I know, I would imagine it's going to be like 3.30, 4.00, something like that. so So if the game is then, I'm okay with it. um I always love...
00:46:23
Speaker
a three 30 game. Um, so I can get on board with that. Also just thinking back to last year with all the overtimes and how late that game ended, like it's kind of late. So it's cool.
00:46:34
Speaker
Um, but I'm cool. I'm always cool. Like I don't want it to be like a nooner at Mercedes Benz against tech on black Friday. That would be lame. Um, but if it's at three 30 or four, I'm cool with that.
00:46:46
Speaker
We had our kickoff last year. Last year it was a night game, right? Yeah. Yeah. I thought that was pretty awesome. I mean, it was. and it ended And the game ended on Saturday.
00:47:00
Speaker
i think that um yeah i I think that being at 3.30 would not be the worst thing in the world. Again, i think that you and I are in agreement on this, that what that 4.30 kickoff is like the peak eliteness.
00:47:15
Speaker
Yes. Yeah, definitely. Yeah. ah Given that it's at NB Stadium, I would say that, and the fact that they've got a 7.30 matchup between two teams that are in conference and are probably going to be vying for the, you know, jockeying for position or whatever, um i would say that that's probably ah ah lock that we're going to be sitting at 3.30. Yeah.
00:47:39
Speaker
Yeah, that's kind of how I feel. So I'm okay with that. I'm okay with that. um'll get with that Yeah. i was trying at this point At this point, we're in we're in college football twenty twenty five and everything that we want matters not dear fan yeah And if playing in this game means that we're going to get more money to hand to some TikTok running quarterback, then fine. Whatever.
00:48:08
Speaker
You're all on the TikToks tonight. i do i do not want my I do not want the starting quarterback in the University of Georgia on TikTok ever again. Thank you very much, sir. i will I will add the โ€“ I think that I was going โ€“ I've been scrolling through our text thread. Again, I keep you everything.
00:48:25
Speaker
ah With John and Hunter. So on Black Friday, you've got Texas versus A&M as the night game. You've also got the Egg Bowl. So Mississippi and Mississippi State is at noon on Black Friday, which is going to be 11 o'clock local for them, by the way.
00:48:42
Speaker
So that's on at noon. So I would assume we're going to be in that middle window. So like 3.34. So I'm cool with that. I'm cool that. Egg Bowl being at noon disgust is disgusting. Yes, that should be absolutely filthy. like That should be a night game.
00:48:55
Speaker
That traditionally has been a night game, right? That's what I thought. I was going to say, I was like, what the heck's going on? I thought the Egg Bowl is usually like a night game. Well, I feel like they have been playing on Thanksgiving.
00:49:06
Speaker
like Actually, on Thanksgiving. Yeah, on Thanksgiving. That's right. Yeah, yeah. They played Thanksgiving last last year. Get off my lawn. Go back to how it used to be. Come on, people. Yeah, seriously. can we please Can we please keep some semblance of tradition alive, please?
00:49:20
Speaker
For the love all things. right, let's see. ah Fresh IRC Podcast asks, have the offensive line and drop issues been fixed? So I think we've talked about the offensive line, but I guess we haven't so much talked about the the drops.
00:49:34
Speaker
Any thoughts on the drops? Actually, I feel like you have a you have a commentary you've had about the drops and what was the potential culprit of said drops. Carson Beck doesn't throw a catchable ball. Yeah. was to say maybe maybe the drops have gone to Miami.
00:49:47
Speaker
Yeah. Time will tell. I don't know. I don't know. I would say that's not something we can so much see from watching, watching G day. ah We're to have to see the, the, the

Wide Receiver Concerns & Transfer Portal

00:50:00
Speaker
game. person Yeah. Yeah. in the fall So I feel, I feel better about them.
00:50:05
Speaker
I, I'm little worried about getting the ball to them. So there's that. and feels like a situation where if if Gunner can get the ball to them in the right spots, then I think that they'll be able take care of it based on what I've seen.
00:50:19
Speaker
but The problem is, is that what I also have seen is, you know, I don't know. we'll We'll wait and see. We're in a wait and see mode on that one. Okay. I don't want to get, i don't want to get pessimistic about it. Okay. No, months no Munsoning.
00:50:31
Speaker
It's May.
00:50:33
Speaker
It is May and Munsoning is dead. Agreed. All right, let's see. ah Blake Davis says, not long ago, it seemed UGA was way ahead of the curve of key rivals like Florida, Auburn, and Georgia Tech.
00:50:46
Speaker
Some have alluded to one or more passing the dogs with preseason fodder. Has the gap really closed that much, or is it just and uncertainty? Obviously, Portal is big factor in gap closing.
00:50:58
Speaker
So, I don't is this Josh Pate reference again, maybe, with Florida being ahead of us or whatever? I don't know who who's closing the gap. Yeah. So that's what I was just saying. I mean, like, and again, if you, I think by, these are the three rivals that we have, uh, by the, uh, official, my got a podcast criteria of what makes a rivalry.
00:51:20
Speaker
Um, and I wouldn't say any of those three have passed us. So, or really close the gap again. I feel like you've got to, you got to have some semblance of like sustained success um to see that there.
00:51:33
Speaker
I will say of those three, i mean, like Georgia tech has come a long way from where they were um under Gioff. ah You know, I think Brent key is the right guy for them. So I will say they have made,
00:51:46
Speaker
they have made some big strides from where they were. And we saw evidence of that on the field, uh, black Friday last year. Um, but I mean, that's still like, I still, yeah, I still don't see that so much. Like the, the gap is closed.
00:52:00
Speaker
I don't know. I am just looking at a couple of things. Okay. So unfortunately how you calculate closing the gap hasn't really changed much.
00:52:13
Speaker
Um, you could use the transfer portal. I guess, to a certain extent. But like yeah UGA is never really going to be a huge player in the transfer portal, just based off of how Kirby Smart approaches them. So in the transfer portal, you are limited in who you can attract to the university.
00:52:35
Speaker
That person has to have raised her hand and said, i want to leave the school. And i would say that that is usually... for a team like Georgia, going to be ah red flag in and of itself. So, you know, we may take some transfers and we are definitely going to be open to the transfer portal.
00:52:56
Speaker
And most of the time, and correct me if I'm wrong, Jim, but most of the time when we have leveraged said transfer portal, it is because we have a need at their position that we were trying to fill.
00:53:07
Speaker
Yeah. um It is not out of desperation to try to amass stars and talent, a la the Colorados of the world or the South Carolinas of the world, or even, i mean, LSU is the number one.
00:53:25
Speaker
is the number one team in the transfer portal this year, and they've got 12. um Actually, no, I take that back. They have 17 players that have transferred ah into into their squad from from the portal.
00:53:36
Speaker
mean, Florida State is another big one. Like, they have 23 people. Ole 29.
00:53:42
Speaker
it's a lot of transfer i mean lane kiffin has made a has made his name lately on on the transfer portal yeah like he made the cry to the boosters to try to go out and find talent that someone else has developed and just go and buy it yeah and then and then do f all with it um Because they went and spent all this money and still didn't make the SEC championship, still didn't do anything with it. Like, it's just, i don't know, man.
00:54:12
Speaker
the The transfer portal to me is almost irrelevant and as far as like closing the gap. um So where how else do you measure that? Well, the recruiting rankings are still very heavily going to be involved in that. And UGA has consistently been in the top three in all those.
00:54:31
Speaker
With Texas, Texas, being number one, number two, however you look at it, like, you know, Texas is there. Um, I'm and until Steve Sarkeesian is proves otherwise. I feel like we are there.
00:54:45
Speaker
We are the Alabama to their Georgia right now. um and outside of that like yeah Alabama is there but again like I don't I have there's a lot of questions for me on the University of Alabama right now but I'll I'll reserve judgment for when they roll up to Athens and show us what they look like without uh Jalen Millereau and their mobile quarterback um yeah we'll see who we'll see who they've got this year but um Florida, you know, the team that that's โ€“ that's the team. Florida and LSU, like, and stick out, like, sore thumbs to me on this list. Like, they haven't closed anything.
00:55:19
Speaker
Like, there's no gap. There's no gap closing there. Tennessee hasn't closed any gaps. They're sitting at number 11 in the 24-7 recruiting A&M's number 10. Yeah. a and m' is number ten um Missouri is Ole Miss is 15, like Auburn is six.
00:55:35
Speaker
I mean, you got Hugh Freeze out there doing Hugh Freeze things. um Yeah, I was going to say, if you focus on the Florida-Auburn in tech, I don't see it. Yeah, i I don't see any any gaps closing.
00:55:48
Speaker
Matter of fact, if you looked at like the the blue chip ratio, I think is what โ€“ If you look at your blue chip ratios, that's where I would actually like look at when the season starts is what are what is your blue chip ratio? Because you look at the recruiting rankings and UGA's got five five stars.
00:56:06
Speaker
The only other team that has anywhere close to that is Texas. And then we've got 23 four stars. We have more four stars than Texas does. So Texas sits as the number one ranked team, but UGA actually has, you know, we actually have more, more quality, more quality if you will.
00:56:26
Speaker
Yeah. Yeah. So I don't know. We'll see and we see how it all pans out. I think it's talking season stuff with stuff like that right now. So we'll see. The good news is, is that Kirby Paul Smart is a head coach at the university of Georgia.
00:56:42
Speaker
And until that does not become a fact, I am not going to worry about the recruits in closing. Yeah. All right. Let's see. We got John Michael D. It's only crazy if it doesn't work.
00:56:53
Speaker
Hashtag uniform Twitter and hashtag little stitious concerns continue. And he had quoted quote tweeted something he sent us back in November. Now I will say i did actual research on this one.
00:57:05
Speaker
this This is how you get me to go do research. He has stuff like this. So he said, ah working on a combined little stitches and uniform Twitter crossover theory. From what I have researched, the only Georgia quarterbacks to wear a non-leather helmet and lead us to a natty late in the game with red pants.
00:57:23
Speaker
And he said, Hargit Library ah may need to confirm my research. So I just actually now that I'm reading this again, i would say i actually am leaning towards I think he's on to something. But so let me let me get my I mean, and he's he's correct because. Well, so here's the cat. So the caveat, I guess it would be blue from and Bennett.
00:57:45
Speaker
Yeah, yeah. But he said to not wear a leather their helmet. So we're talking like sinkwich. Now, so this is where my analysis came in. It was like, what kind of helmets did they wear? So we're talking the 1942 Rose Bowl team, right? that The Rose Bowl was January 1st, 1943. So 1942 season.
00:58:01
Speaker
So I was looking back to seeing, did they wear leather helmets or was that like the year we went to plastic? Yeah.

Historical Research & Exhibits

00:58:08
Speaker
And so what i found was that it was actually like during the forties is when Georgia transitioned from leather helmets to plastic helmets.
00:58:16
Speaker
So I'm not hundred percent sure, but all the way he, the way he worded it, like he didn't say, well, yeah, we're so like, did, sink, which wear a non-leather helmet in the 1942 season? That's the question.
00:58:29
Speaker
I have to ask. I will tell you, I know that they wore silver helmets back then. i was looking at pictures. I'm looking at the silver helmet and I'm like, is this? I can't tell what it's made out of.
00:58:40
Speaker
like so Is this leather? It could be a painted leather helmet. I'm not sure. I'll tell you what. They didn't have face masks on them. I will say that. So we could also pivot this to say only players who played with a face mask on their helmet were red pants.
00:58:55
Speaker
So. I agree. Jason, we need to, we need to, can we get a ruling on this? I tagged them in it. Yeah. With it, with a plea to Jason who actually is going to be in Marietta in May.
00:59:08
Speaker
Actually, should probably plug the, is it the, the, the traveling, uh, Oh, yeah. That's cool. His traveling exhibit that he does during the summer. Uh-huh. I will say, when we did um we did our campus tour ah with with Lily, ah while the Hargret Library was not on the official tour, ah reached out to Jason and we stopped by and and said hello.
00:59:30
Speaker
um There's cool stuff there, by the way. like like Even outside of the sports, like um because that library itself has other stuff in there than the sports stuff. and There is some really cool, there's a really cool like, um like fashion industry exhibit actually. And like talking about all the stuff that was made in Georgia. And then there was a civil war exhibit is pretty cool.
00:59:52
Speaker
It was actually like Lily's favorite thing of of the campus tour was the post tour visit to the Harvard library. Go check it out for sure. Yeah, so definitely be sure to check out, ah follow Hagrid Library on Twitter.
01:00:04
Speaker
um Jason always does a ah like Georgia athletics in your town traveling exhibit ah and is doing one this summer as well. So he's going to be all all around Georgia. So check that out to see when he's going be coming to your city if he comes through. i so He'll be in Marietta in July.
01:00:25
Speaker
It's pretty awesome. Yeah, he's going to be all over. He's going be at Hartwell, Alpharetta, Noonan, Columbus, Marietta, Tifton, Dublin, and Toccoa. So he's going to be hitting hitting all over some of the further reaches of the state, but also he'll be around South Side, North Side, Northeast Side, Northwest Side. So um definitely come in come and check out his ah his library tour, his public library tour.
01:00:53
Speaker
Yeah. ah I would say, like, John, if you're able to go, you'll have to ask him this question in person. Yes. I'll get him oh get him on record for at the Switzer Library from 11 to 4 p.m. on and january or sorry July july sixteen yeah but be a marietta So I'll say John Michael D. I think you're on to something. i think we might have to tweak the language a little bit pending our research on were those silver helmets ah leather or not. And I will say that one that what i went to, i was like, oh, I know where to find this.
01:01:34
Speaker
And it still wasn't perfectly spelled out. That hooked on helmets. guy. I remember he had done a ah video about georgia the georgia evolution of the Georgia football helmet. And the way he worded it was that in the 40s, Georgia transitioned from leather to plastic helmets.
01:01:49
Speaker
But he and he said 1941 was the year that they went to the silver helmet. So not 100% sure. But if we if we we can be safe by saying, wore a face mask. Yeah.
01:02:00
Speaker
because they Yeah, I was going to say, if you if you pivot it to that face mask, that's definitely going to be really easy. If I had to guess, the fact that these helmets are silver probably means that they're not made out lemme, I guess.
01:02:13
Speaker
That's my guess, too, but we'll have to figure it out. I sent you a link if you want to pull it up to show the people on the YouTubes. Oh, man. See, now I gotta ah and have to look at all my settings.
01:02:26
Speaker
That's fine. well well will ah We'll pump that some more. All right. Trying to put glasses on. it Sorry. thats right we yeah du's We need to get someone in the ear of Kirby um curby Smart. i mean There was an earthquake in Tennessee, even though Kirby is not supposed to be in Tennessee until later this year.
01:02:48
Speaker
Someone needs to get in his ear. and you know that's one of those That's one of those uniform traditions that you and I have talked about. like Just set it up before the season.
01:02:59
Speaker
We're going to be on the road in Tennessee. We're going to be wearing red pants. That's right. That's right. We're to on the road and at Auburn and we're gonna be wearing black jerseys or whatever. Yeah. Home. Yeah.
01:03:11
Speaker
You got Yeah. Home. Yeah. Again, the red pants, they were good enough for Herschel. Good enough for me. And Stetson. and And Fromm. And Balooq. Amazing.
01:03:22
Speaker
Although no Fromm. No Fromm. No Fromm. Fromm didn't ever wear the red pants. He didn't wear the red pants? No. But he didn't win a national championship. He played one. Oh, is that the โ€“ I thought lead us to Anati is โ€“ I think like lead us to win Anati. Win Anati. Got it. Okay.
01:03:37
Speaker
All right. Let's see. ah Fletcher Proctor came in with if you were a hot dog and you were starving, would you hit yourself? Yes. Like that was an all time Saturday night.
01:03:50
Speaker
You got Colin back when Colin Quinn was doing weekend update in a young Will Ferrell as here. here Fantastic. Hey, Norm. so good that used to be that used to be in the dorm room like we would we'd be in the dorms like doing best the best harry carrie uh impersonations dude that's so it's so amazing so amazing that was a good that was a good right uh we do have one more question
01:04:28
Speaker
My God, a freshman. Trying to put glasses on. 90, 80, whoo, brother.
01:04:35
Speaker
Shout out to Coach Trillbill, who also worked in the hypothetical into his question. with if you hypothetically had an over-under segment, here's something consider. Also, shout out to Coach Trillbill for making the dinner recommendations for me when we were in Alpharetta this past weekend.
01:04:51
Speaker
um We didn't eat where he recommended, but we did stop by for a drink after. Shout out to Hobnob at, how do I say, Halcyon? Do you say the Halcyon, or did do you just say Halcyon? Do you know that place up in Alpharetta?
01:05:04
Speaker
this This basically being like a foreign country to me. you don't You don't venture over there? I don't usually. So the only reason we ever go over there is because of sports. So like, it's kind of like going to Canada. Like, you know, you got to go visit the Niagara Falls or whatever. Yeah.
01:05:19
Speaker
And when do you go over there, you got to get something to eat over there. So, ah yeah, I call it Halcyon, right? Yeah, that's that's that's my understanding. um But yeah, I've only been there twice.
01:05:31
Speaker
this like mo task This is like when you can tell someone's not from there, and that not not from Atlanta when they say the MARTA. Right. Yeah, that's the thing. i don't want to like the Halcyon when it's just Halcyon. was I wasn't totally sure.
01:05:43
Speaker
ah But yeah, man, I will say Hobnob, our ah bartender saw me like staring at and and like the the shelf, the bourbon shelves and came over and asked me, like she was like, I see you looking at all the bourbon. Would you like me to bring you our bourbon book? And was like,
01:06:01
Speaker
Sure. So it was good. Had a couple of good bourbons on Saturday. had the, I had E.H. Taylor Taylor small batch out there. And, uh, my dad brought over a bottle of Pappy for us to enjoy, uh, at my niece's graduation party. So had some fantastic bourbon on Saturday.
01:06:19
Speaker
That one is, that one is pretty awesome. I'd never had it and it was absolutely fantastic. Yeah. How would you so you've had, you've had, you've had the well with 12 and you've had that one. Mm-hmm. Which one do you rate higher?
01:06:31
Speaker
um The Pappy. it was a Pappy. It was really good, man. Yeah, dude. Yeah. Not going to lie. the The Pappy situation is the 10-year. i though i I've had ah most of them. The only one that I haven't had, I haven't had the Rye. What do you say? The Family Reserve, think is what it's called.
01:06:49
Speaker
um Which one? what What did Stetson have after the Natty? The one that you had the 10-year. I knew it just tasted elite. per did you Did you pull it from the bottle and take a picture of it? Because that would have been content that would have been amazing. it did not Did not. Who wore who wore it better? or it Poured it in a glass. Did drink it neat, though.
01:07:10
Speaker
and No ice. Had it neat. It was good. I'm just and just verifying my memory because as I'm pretty sure that it was the 10-year. I'm not yet. Oh, no. No. I don't think so. Okay.
01:07:22
Speaker
I think on up upon further review. Label looks different. might it might be It might be a little different. That's fine. That's fine. Still elite. Yeah. Still elite. Okay.
01:07:33
Speaker
we Oh, speaking of restaurants, did we ever give Tim restaurant restaurant recommendations? Oh, we didn't give the restaurant recommendations. We just talked about going to Georgia. Hold on. Okay. Aussie over unders.
01:07:45
Speaker
Tim, we didn't answer your question. um Yeah, we just talked about the immediate impact of rush men. Uh, okay. I'm going to recommend, um just cause it's somewhere new to me, ah wherever it's, but it's like right behind creature comforts.
01:08:02
Speaker
Um, and it was like order, but it was like order at the counter. Uh, and I really enjoyed it. Ted's most best. It's like a pizza place. So I've got like pizza and then just like Italian stuff.
01:08:13
Speaker
Like I said, you order at the counter and then they bring it to your table.

Restaurant Recommendations in Athens

01:08:16
Speaker
So, you know, if you're there hypothetically visiting your freshman daughter, I feel like that would be a good place. I'm going to always go with a, not a sponsor yet.
01:08:27
Speaker
South kitchen and bar. Mm. Mm. Yes. Which, by the way, that's where we had brunch with my parents when we stayed with them for spring break. And I think that was the first time I'd eaten there.
01:08:39
Speaker
It was so good. It was really good. Listen, I've never had a bad meal there. It's fantastic. Last Resort also can't beat it. However, Tim, you're going to have to get reservations at Last Resort.
01:08:49
Speaker
Maybe you hit a hug dog for that. um I would say that, oh, oh speaking of a hug dog, probably brunch on the the the Hilltop Grill. You got to go. Get the bacon ratchet. Look, it opened the night, the David Green threw in fast Michael Johnson.
01:09:05
Speaker
the Amazing. Yeah. um Then obviously Little Italy if you you want a sub sandwich. and While we're just naming restaurants, Trappies. That's another one I enjoy.
01:09:17
Speaker
Okay. I will say that every time I go into Athens, I almost always try to find an excuse to eat itself. Kitchen and bar. That's all I got to say about that. It's really good. It's really good. That's a good one. And you can go in there and eat at the bar.
01:09:29
Speaker
No reservation. And if you get there early enough, there's usually in no lines or waits. You can just walk right in, but also recommend reservations on game day. Yeah, we did a, we had a reservation for like a Sunday brunch um when we went with my parents. It was great.

Preseason Football Rankings & Baseball Speculation

01:09:44
Speaker
All right. Back to the over-unders. ah Okay. Over-unders. Preseason polls with Georgia ranked 10 or lower over under 2.5. I'm going to go under. There's no way that actual preseason polls can do this.
01:09:57
Speaker
10 or lower, meaning like we're ranked below 10? Let's say 10 or better. I'm assuming lower. 10 or worse? 10 or worse. Yeah. Okay. Yeah. That's how I read it. Clarification. Yeah. We have my question.
01:10:08
Speaker
I'm going to go under 2.5. also Also, point of clarification, these are not official over-unders for the no these calculations. Correct. Correct. This is off-season fun time.
01:10:21
Speaker
These don't go into the calculations. I mean, don't know. It's coaches over-unders. He can do what he wants to do. The rules should have been outlined before we started. So good. So good. Let's text him.
01:10:34
Speaker
Let's go. ah Yeah, I'll go under. Okay. Okay. um Over under Georgia baseball seeding, eight and a half. I'm assuming he's meaning seeding in the College World Series.
01:10:47
Speaker
I don't um um't know. I'm going to say, let's just say better or worse. I'll say better than half. I'll say better as well. Yeah. um Diamond Dogs are they fun to watch.
01:11:00
Speaker
They're fun to watch. SEC teams in Omaha over under two and a half. So that's not College World Series. Let's make it to Omaha. All right. So for those of us that may not have followed baseball as closely, is this like making the tournament kind of thing?
01:11:17
Speaker
So it's not the tournament. So the tournament you've got, I don't even know um the full like numbers everywhere, but I'll give some generals. So there's like, there's regionals and then there's super region.
01:11:31
Speaker
Super region. Yeah. And so like the teams, yeah if you, and so for the regionals and the super regionals, you host. um And then if you win the super regionals, like you went through, win that round, um then you go to Omaha.
01:11:47
Speaker
how How many teams how many teams go to Omaha is what I'm trying to figure out. ah eight Eight teams advance to Omaha. So that's the College World Series. That's that's the College World Series. okay yeah um Push.
01:12:03
Speaker
Yeah, I mean, two and a half. two It's a good line, I feel like. It is a good line. That's a good line. I'm going to go over. Over? Okay. okay I'll go under just to be different. Now we're going to have...
01:12:15
Speaker
Now we're going to have shenanigans at the end on whether or not we count this or not. ah coach is like Coach is like stroking his chin right now. like yes, yes. Chaos.

Advice for Incoming Freshmen

01:12:28
Speaker
Miss Lane's question. Do you have advice for an income any incoming Georgia freshman? Go to class. That's a good one. That's a good one. don't get it and don't Don't schedule anything before you realistically feel like you can consistently wake up at.
01:12:42
Speaker
That's a good one. Just because you think that you can get up at 8 a.m. or 7 a.m. or whatever ah doesn't mean that you are going to be able to. Remember? i don't don't I don't know that from personal experience or anything at all whatsoever.
01:12:59
Speaker
I don't remember how much you would remember if you ever remembered my, my speeches at chapter about time management and be able to manage your time. It was used to get made fun of all the time.
01:13:10
Speaker
but yeah, I would say too, even just like thinking back, like, my gosh, like I've, don't know if you ever think about this, like how much better feel like I would be at college now and just like knowing how the world works and everything. And like,
01:13:22
Speaker
I don't know. Like, I feel like I could have paced myself much better like doing things instead of cramming everything like a dumb teenager waiting to the last minute. So I don't know.
01:13:32
Speaker
Don't wait to the last minute. Do your homework, read your books and assignments and such. These are, these are simple things that go a long way. Yeah. I don't think what else? Um, don't be, I would say that don't be so too, too eager to to live off campus.
01:13:50
Speaker
Okay. Okay. I feel like that it leads itself to ah different experience because what I'll say, even though I live two years in the fraternity house, ah I don't necessarily count that as off campus um because it was still you know pretty close by. I mean, we could walk back from was a long hike, but we could walk back from downtown.
01:14:12
Speaker
um mean, you could walk from downtown to Waterford. Yeah. Well, I don't think that well I don't consider Waterford necessarily off campus, but I don't know. ah I feel like that the Waterford these days is is very different.
01:14:25
Speaker
Probably. um I don't know. I just I just say that stay stay in the dorms, stay in the dorms as long as you can. ah spent two years in the dorms and that was awesome.
01:14:37
Speaker
I only spent one I went over to River river Mill. It's a great place.
01:14:46
Speaker
don't go to Don't go to Mandyville. Oh, man. All right.

Coach Engagement & Season Speculation

01:14:52
Speaker
Got to close it out with saying congrats to Coach Trillbill, recently engaged.
01:14:59
Speaker
ah So congrats, buddy. Yes. Big congrats. Looking forward to that wedding. And it probably will not be in the fall, I'm assuming. Or hey, we can have our first Morris Hall wedding. There you go. On the lawn, on the front steps.
01:15:17
Speaker
On the front steps. Yeah, exactly. Amazing. right. Well, Coach Trill, thanks for sending those in. Always appreciate you, buddy. Absolutely. All right. yeah You got anything else to wrap I don't. I think that um think that we're โ€“ I don't know. I'm i'm um' cautiously optimistic about and but this next season. I mean, obviously, you know, we're โ€“ We're Georgia. We're in Recurder to be Smart. We got all these amazing recruits.
01:15:46
Speaker
You know, i have been frustrated with the state of college football and the recruiting and all that stuff. And I remember, I guess, to a certain extent, being one of those people that was like, oh, my gosh, like, why we're getting outbid by all these people. And then all of a sudden, like, you you get calmed down by someone that knows what's going on Like, don't worry. Like, they're like โ€“ we're We're willing to spend for certain players and certain... like We're just not going willy-nilly with everyone kind of thing. Right. Making these huge splashes. So, don't know. I would say that, you know, if you're...
01:16:24
Speaker
Again, weve we've talked about this in the past. Like if you're these boosters that are dropping all of this NIL money into these universities at some point, it's going to have to pay off.
01:16:35
Speaker
And i guess that you've got Ohio State that was able to do that last year. And this year, by and large, looks like it's Texas. Yeah. Color me skeptical on whether or not they're going to actually be able to accomplish that with Steve Sarkisian.
01:16:50
Speaker
um But I would say that never forget when someone's talking to you about XYZ recruits or, you know, oh, yeah, UGA is not not going to be the guys this year or whatever. Like, just remember that we've got Kirby Smart at the helm, and he has paid a king's ransom for figuring out all of this out and he hasn't really let us down um thus far so in kirby we trust in kirby we trust and on that gem i'll give you a go dogs go dogs
