If you are just coming across this event, don't be discouraged that it says that it is a kid's Bible. This is just an easy-to-understand, chronologically written Bible that gives us the whole big story from Genesis to Revelation.

Symbolism in Jeremiah's Actions

00:01:59
Speaker
Today we are going to be reading in the book of Jeremiah. And we're going to be hearing about what happened to Jeremiah a little bit. He got sent to jail by King Zedekiah.
00:02:13
Speaker
And so we're going to hear about what happened while he was in jail.
00:02:18
Speaker
Chapter 32 is what we are going to be reading today, as well as chapter 31. The
00:02:29
Speaker
the first section is entitled Jeremiah's Jail. Jeremiah had to stay in the guard's yard at the palace. King Zedekiah had made it Jeremiah's jail.
00:02:42
Speaker
Zedekiah had said, Why are you saying these things? You say that God is going to give us to Babylon. You say that I won't get away. You say I will be taken to Babylon.
00:02:56
Speaker
You say we won't win this fight.
00:03:01
Speaker
Jeremiah said, here's what God told me. He said that my cousin would come and say, buy my field. And that's just what happened.
00:03:14
Speaker
I knew that that's what God said, so I bought the field. I paid my cousin seven pieces of silver for it. I signed the papers to own the field, and I gave those papers to Baruch.
00:03:29
Speaker
The people sitting in the yard saw it. I told Baruch, here's what God says. Take these papers and put them in a clay jar, and that way they will stay safe for a long time.
00:03:45
Speaker
Someday, people will buy houses in this land again. They will buy fields too.

God's Promises of Hope and Covenant

00:03:53
Speaker
and After that, I prayed.
00:03:57
Speaker
God, you made the earth and space with your great power. Nothing is too hard for you. You show your love to thousands of people.
00:04:10
Speaker
but you bring trouble to the people for the wrong that they have done.
00:04:16
Speaker
Great, strong God, your name is the Lord of all power. Your plans are great. You do powerful things.
00:04:30
Speaker
You see what people do. if they are If they do good, you give them good things. If they do bad, you send them trouble.
00:04:43
Speaker
You did wonders in Egypt and you still do wonders. See how the enemies fight against this city? There's sickness.
00:04:55
Speaker
There's not enough food. Babylon will take charge of this city. You told about it and it has happened. But still,
00:05:07
Speaker
You told me to buy the field.
00:05:12
Speaker
Then God said to Jeremiah, I am the Lord. I am the God of all people. Nothing is too hard for me. I am going to give this city to Babylon.
00:05:25
Speaker
They will take over. They'll come in and burn the city. Judah's people have done wrong, says God. They've made me so angry I'm getting rid of them.
00:05:39
Speaker
They wouldn't listen. They set up idols. But someday I will bring people back here from other lands. I will bring them here, says God.
00:05:54
Speaker
I will let them live safely here. They will be my people, and I will be their God.
00:06:03
Speaker
I will give my people a heart that wants to obey me. They'll always obey me, says God. We will make a promise together.
00:06:15
Speaker
It will last forever. i will never stop doing good for them. They will never turn away from me.

Reflections on God's Nature and Love

00:06:25
Speaker
i will be glad to be good to them.
00:06:29
Speaker
I have sent trouble to these people, but I will also bring the good things I have promised. Someday people will buy fields again.
00:06:41
Speaker
They will buy in towns and in the hills. I will bring good days back again, says God.
00:06:52
Speaker
Chapter 31 Turning Sadness into Gladness
00:06:59
Speaker
I will be the God of all the family groups of Israel. They will be my people, says God. Here is what God says. The people who live will see my goodness.
00:07:13
Speaker
I will give Israel rest.
00:07:17
Speaker
God came to us before, and this is what he said. I loved you with love that lasts forever. I brought you to me with my love and kindness.
00:07:30
Speaker
I will build you again. You will dance with joy again. You will plant fields and enjoy their fruit again. The people who watch will call every everyone to come.
00:07:44
Speaker
They will say, Let's go to Zion, God's city. Let's go and see our God.
00:07:52
Speaker
Here is what God says. Sing with joy, shout for the greatest nation. Let everyone hear your praise. Say, God save your people.
00:08:06
Speaker
See, i will bring them from all over the earth. Many, many people will come back. They will come crying, they will come praying.
00:08:17
Speaker
I'll lead them by rivers. I will lead them on a flat road. They will not trip and fall because I am their father.
00:08:28
Speaker
Here's what God says. A crying voice comes from Rama. It sounds like Rachel crying for her children. She won't let anyone cheer her up.
00:08:41
Speaker
Her children have died.
00:08:44
Speaker
Here's what God says. Stop crying. Good things will come to you. because of your work. There is hope for the days that are coming.
00:08:57
Speaker
Your children will come back to their land. I will make tired feeep people feel like new.
00:09:07
Speaker
After I heard these words from God,

Guidance from God's Love

00:09:10
Speaker
I woke up. I looked around. I had slept well.
00:09:20
Speaker
And that is the end of our reading today.
00:09:28
Speaker
God was showing Jeremiah with the buying of the field that he was going to have land available for sale again. People would again buy land and houses in Israel.
00:09:45
Speaker
So God was once again reassuring the people that although they had made him very angry and he was bringing trouble for them, he was still going to be bringing them back in the future and that they would still be able to buy land again.
00:10:03
Speaker
God is so gracious and so loving, and he gives constantly the the um reassurance that the people will be coming back at some point.
00:10:15
Speaker
And he's always telling them that when he they come back, he is going to bring them all from many lands and that he's going to give them a heart that is new, a heart that wants to always obey God, and that he will have a new covenant with them.
00:10:33
Speaker
So we are getting closer all the time to the time when God won't speak for a while. And then we will have the time when Jesus comes. So we know that the more frequent the messages become, the closer it is getting for this time to happen.
00:10:53
Speaker
So it's it might seem like it's still a long way off, but remember in God's time, a a day is like nothing. So it it is definitely getting closer in the time that he's going to be bringing all of this about.
00:11:10
Speaker
For instance, the Babylonians have already taken over the lands of of Judah. So here we see for our daily application is what Jeremiah said and what God said.
00:11:24
Speaker
Nothing is too hard for God. We can be scared about things happening or worried about things happening. And we need to remember that nothing is too hard for God.
00:11:39
Speaker
God did amazing wonders in Egypt, and he still did wonders in Jeremiah's day. And God still does wonders today. Our God has not changed.
00:11:51
Speaker
And like God tells us in here, he says that he loves us with love that lasts forever.
00:12:03
Speaker
i am so thankful for that. He says, I brought you to me. with my love and kindness. God is love. He is so full of love.
00:12:17
Speaker
And he says that he will never stop doing good for us. He loves to do good things for us. Jesus tells us that if we, who know how who are you sinful, know how to give people give our children good gifts, how much more does our Father in heaven give good gifts to us if we ask him?
00:12:41
Speaker
He wants us to ask him about things. He wants us to come to him. And not that he is like what we talked about yesterday, where he's not just there to simply fu fulfill wishes and and grant miracles.
00:12:54
Speaker
We are to make sure that we are
00:13:00
Speaker
following God with all of our hearts and that we are making God the most important one. And then God loves to do good things with us and for us.
00:13:12
Speaker
God works through us to do wonderful things, to do the good works that he has set apart for us to do that he's planned for us to do. And everything God does is with love and with kindness.
00:13:27
Speaker
And i I just love that about him. That is probably God's greatest attribute is that he is so loving. He is love.

Call to Engage and Share

00:13:36
Speaker
So we want to remember that for our daily application today.
00:13:39
Speaker
We may know it already, but we can't think about it too much. Because our God is so wonderful. He is worthy of our love. He is worthy of our praise.
00:13:51
Speaker
He takes such good care of us. He puts everything together for good. He knows the plans that he has for us. Plans for hope. Plans to prosper us.
00:14:03
Speaker
Not to hurt us. He is not an angry God all the time where we have to be concerned and worried about things. About him. being angry with us and and smiting us, as we would say, that's a big word, but to to that which means just to ah be intentionally looking to to strike us down and hurt us with every chance he can get because he is moody.
00:14:29
Speaker
That is not who our God is. Our God loves us with love that lasts forever. And he showed us this love with Jesus Christ.
00:14:40
Speaker
He loves us so much that he gave us his only son. That whoever would die, whoever, sorry, I said that wrong. That whoever would believe in him will not die, but have eternal life with him.
00:14:55
Speaker
God doesn't want anyone to perish, which means to die. God tells us here today, he says, I am the God of all people.
00:15:07
Speaker
All people. And nothing is too hard for him.
00:15:13
Speaker
So I don't know about you, but I know that lit my light today. And I'm so glad to hear such a happy reading today. Because we hear a lot right now up with the the people of Israel disobeying. and And like yesterday, we heard about them.
00:15:30
Speaker
They didn't want to change their ways. They just wanted God to perform miracles for them. And so it's so nice to have such a ah happy reading today, don't you think?
00:15:43
Speaker
And tomorrow, I believe, this and is another happy reading as well. It's beautiful. So we'll get to that tomorrow. So thank you for joining me today.
