Casual Chat & Drinks

00:00:50
Speaker
What are you drinking today? Today we have hum kombucha.
00:00:54
Speaker
Arnold Palmer and water. Yum. After just finishing coffee. Nice. Yeah. I am drinking. Don't judge me. I'm judging. I know you know that I'm not an alcoholic. Listeners may not know that. But so I opened up a bottle of Prosecco earlier, assuming that Mike would want to drink it with me because he usually always does. He doesn't. And I don't have a champagne stopper. Yeah. So I'm drinking the whole bottle by myself.
00:01:24
Speaker
That sounds like a good Sunday. It does sound like, well, and because after this, I'm going to be really good because I'm starting the biggest loser challenge with my husband's work. And so I'm going to be like stopping, you know, all the extras. So we'll see how it goes.

Tattoo Planning Excitement

00:01:44
Speaker
How long is it? Till July 1st. It's a really long time. That's when I start my tattoo. Ooh.
00:01:52
Speaker
Can't wait to see it. I know. I'm so excited. This tattoo artist is so good. I've been following her for so long and she's cool as shit too. When I did my appointment with her and we went over like the full sleeve, like of everything she was going to do, she sent me a meditation video. She was like, before you come in for your first appointment, you know, listen to this. It'll help like put you in the right mind space. Cause some of these areas are going to be a little tough. And I was like, Oh, I know.
00:02:19
Speaker
Yeah, I know because we're going even like under and in the in the elbow. Yes, it's going to hurt like a bitch. The palm. I cannot wait to see this finish tattoo. It's going to be amazing. So excited. Did I tell you like some of the stuff she changed?
00:02:36
Speaker
No. So like I was trying to figure out, cause I'm doing pharas and Reese's bond from like my elbow down and it's going to go around other stuff. I was like trying to figure out what to put on my hand and my fingers. Cause I wanted something like I want it to vine down, but I want other stuff in it. So she wants to do the mountains, the three mountains on like the back of my hand. And then we're going to put the eyeball. Yes. Yeah. She's going to do like moon phases across my fingers.
00:03:04
Speaker
Oh my gosh, that's going to be amazing. It's going to be so cool. I cannot wait. I cannot wait for you. I really want to get the moon phases down my spine. I heard the spine is like a really sensitive area to get tattooed, but it would look so cool.
00:03:18
Speaker
Well, that's another one of Feyre's, isn't it? Down her spine. She has like the moon phases. I don't remember exactly what she has on her spine. I think it's, it's the Braaxis, her second Braaxis down her spine. I can't remember, but is it the moon phases? I think it, I think it was described as like phases of the moon. What the heck? That would be crazy. I'm pretty sure. It's the same thing because I've been wanting to do that or like blackbirds or something for my dad. Not sure exactly.
00:03:47
Speaker
Yeah, it's the moon phasing. The center one has like a star around the moon, like the star coming out of it. And then maybe I'll do that then because I mean, two birds, one stone, like witchy tattoo plus.
00:04:02
Speaker
a nod to a Court of Thorns and Roses.

Affordable Witchcraft

00:04:07
Speaker
So today we are going to be talking about many different ways you can practice witchcraft while spending little to no money. Some of the things we are going to discuss may sound familiar as we've touched on quite a bit of this in some of our previous episodes, such as mundane magic, and also on the cleansing, charging, and vanishing episodes. So if you haven't listened to those, definitely check them out. We are fortunate that witchcraft and paganism have become more mainstream.
00:04:31
Speaker
and accepted in today's society. Information is so close and so abundant that you can search Pinterest for spells and charms, and there's tons of TikToks and YouTube videos out there that detail how to do a lot of different things within witchcraft or paganism. However, all of this knowledge comes with the perception that you need a lot of stuff and you need to spend a lot of money to be a witch, and that's absolutely not the case.
00:04:53
Speaker
Witchcraft demands effort, respect, time, and commitment. You can't buy your way into witchcraft. Witchcraft on a budget doesn't mean that you have to be cheap, but being mindful of what you spend your money on. Put your focus on learning your craft. The tools are secondary and they're more for ritual practice or amplification. Remember that our ancestors didn't have access to everything that we have access to today. Like today we can order a crystal from any part of the world and just have it shipped to our house.
00:05:22
Speaker
And a lot of them have been shipped into like local stores too. So, you know, our ancestors used what was around them versus being able to have everything shipped to them through like Google or Amazon or whatever. Exactly. And at the end of the day, it's all about intention. Our energy and our minds are powerful tools that we often overlook when we think about the essentials that are needed in spellwork. As long as your intention is there and you're using your energy wisely, you can manifest so much.
00:05:52
Speaker
When working on a budget, work with what you have available to you.

Magical Household Items

00:05:55
Speaker
Your spice cabinet is going to be something that you use frequently. Many common herbs and spices have both medicinal and magical properties. Something that I learned in our research was working with black cat hairs said to be good for luck and success.
00:06:10
Speaker
Which is crazy. Yeah. Well, you know, like the whole superstition is that black cats are unlucky. That's true. Apparently working with their hair is lucky. Exactly. And you need a black cat now because you have all these cats and not one of them is black. Nike has a little bit because she's a tortie. So she's got like the reds and orange and creams, but she has a little bit of black.
00:06:37
Speaker
You just need to take a little scissors. I know. Let me just snip this out. Sorry, excuse me. We need this. Sorry, Nike. I'll do it next time I come because she hates me anyway. Yeah. She'll just try to murder you. No big deal. It's okay. Eggshells is another one. These are a great additive for protection and for use in fertility spells.
00:06:57
Speaker
If you live in an older historic home, many of them were built using square nails, and square nails are said to be used for protection. And then horseshoes. You can use old horseshoes. They're good for luck and protection depending on which way that the horseshoe is hung. So if it's facing upwards in a U, it's believed to store good energy and keep luck from spilling outward while keeping evil out of the house. And then if you hang it upside down, it's said to let luck spill outward from the home.
00:07:26
Speaker
It's important to focus on the essentials and what is important to you and your practice.

Personalized Witchcraft Practices

00:07:31
Speaker
You don't have to have every spice or household item that we discuss in this episode. Instead, tailor your practice to what you want to focus on. For instance, just relating this back to me and Tiffany. Tiffany is very much an herbalist and you can see this whenever you look at her practice.
00:07:48
Speaker
She is going to be the one to make teas, simmer pots, tinctures, and salves, and imbue her magic into her cooking. For me, as much as I love herbalism and kitchen witchery, the kitchen is not my strong suit. Cleaning magic and crystals and candle work is what I'm drawn to. So outside of spell work, that includes kitchen ingredients like cinnamon, star anise, chamomile, and rosemary, just to name a few. I don't do much magic in the kitchen. I actually do all of my spell work at my altar.
00:08:16
Speaker
And I have altar spices that stay at my altar because I know that while I love reading about and watching videos on kitchen witchery, at the end of the day, that's not where I focus my energy. All this to say though, our magical spaces are going to be completely different and that's okay. Do what works for you. Some of the essentials that I use in my everyday practice include things like candles.

Candles in Spellwork

00:08:40
Speaker
Candles don't have to be expensive and you can use what you currently have in your home right now.
00:08:45
Speaker
You don't need to go out and buy any fancy spell candles or taper candles. If you just have a Yankee candle at home, that will work. And the cool thing about Yankee candles is they come in a variety of colors like white, red, purple, blue. I've seen pink ones as well, black ones. All of these can be used in spellwork and you just have to Google search.
00:09:06
Speaker
what different colors mean in witchcraft. White candles especially are pretty universal and can fit with basically any intention. An example of this is Bath and Body Works candles. Bath and Body Works candles can come in a variety of colors, but for the most part, they're all white. And I have tons of these in my home. And guess what? I use them in my spellwork.
00:09:28
Speaker
They do sales. They do. What is it, like three candles for like $20 or something? I can't remember. The Bath and Body Works, we are loaded with them. We have so many because I'm like, oh, let me buy them all up now while they're on sale. Exactly. And the scent throw is amazing. To me, I have a Yankee candle in my bathroom and it works great in my bathroom. But if I want my whole house to smell great, I'm using a Bath and Body Works candle.
00:09:56
Speaker
Yeah, my Yankee candles are usually candles that were gifted to me, because for some reason that's like the gold standard everywhere in America, right? Yeah. Everyone wants to have Yankee candles, but if they're not in a small space, the scent throw is like non-existent, whereas it really works. We have a pretty big downstairs area. It's four rooms, and if you light one, you could smell that candle in any of those areas, like just one candle.
00:10:21
Speaker
Exactly. That's how ours is too. Our downstairs area is very open floor or very open floor plan, whatever. And if I light that candle, if I leave it on our bar and our kitchen, the whole downstairs smells amazing. I can smell it even upstairs. It's wonderful. And so like, and I've not done this yet, but this was something I saw whenever I was researching it. If you have, if all you have is a Yankee candle or Bath and Body Works candle, and you want to include it in your
00:10:49
Speaker
daily practice, pull off the label if you don't want to look at it, or you can make your own label on a piece of paper and tape it to the jar, or you can write your intentions on the candle or draw your own sigil on the jar with a Sharpie. And if you're into carving sigils, you can carve the sigil on the top of the candle. And all of this works to bring in that intention. And so say, for instance, if you're wanting to draw a protective sigil on the top of your candle,
00:11:16
Speaker
carve that in your candle. You can anoint it with oil and maybe some herbs too, or just carve it in. You don't have to do anything fancy. And then whenever you come home from work or school or wherever, light your candle. And that's bringing that intention of protection into your space. And that's a very quick and easy and very cheap way to practice candle magic in

Quick Spellwork with Candles

00:11:39
Speaker
your everyday.
00:11:39
Speaker
Birthday candles and tea light candles are also very great options if you're wanting to practice candle magic and you don't want to spend any money. As far as tea light candles, I mean those are really cheap and you can find them just about anywhere. The thing about tea light candles that I love is that they're so
00:11:58
Speaker
quick to burn out. Also for birthday candles these are a great option if you already have them on hand. I know as a mom I have a ton of just random birthday candles floating around in our junk drawer that you know we'll just every time there's a birthday I think that we don't have any candles and then I'll go out and buy a whole package of new candles and then now we just have an abundance of random birthday candles in our drawer.
00:12:24
Speaker
These are perfect to use in spellwork. And again, they burn really quick and easy. And I mean, you might not be able to carve a sigil in them, but it's a great way to- Maybe if you're really skilled. I'm not very skilled at that. That's a very tiny space. A lot of spellwork requires you to allow the candle to burn out completely. And so I've read that it's like a preferred use as birthday candles because they are so small and they burn so quickly.
00:12:51
Speaker
So if you don't have a lot of time to let a full like taper candle burn all the way down, a birthday candle is the best version. It really is a very underrated candle to use in spellwork because like for instance, even those small spell candles, they burn forever.
00:13:10
Speaker
A couple weeks ago, I did a prosperity spell and it was in a cauldron. It was safe. It was in a little candle holder inside my cauldron. And I forgot that I even had it lit. Like I had to go pick up a package and because I live on a military installation and we live in another country, delivery drivers can't
00:13:31
Speaker
gain access to where we live. And so I had to meet this delivery driver off base somewhere. It was only gone for like maybe five minutes, but I completely forgot that I even had a candle lit because it had been so long since I had lit the candle because, you know, whenever you do a spell like that and you're lighting a candle and you're letting the candle burn out, should still be thinking about the intention. But like once you've completed the spell, you kind of let go. You know what I mean?
00:13:54
Speaker
And I had already continued on with my day knowing

Candle Safety Tips

00:13:57
Speaker
that I had plenty of time for the candle to burn out before I needed to like pick up my kids from school. But it didn't factor in the delivery situation. And so I was driving off base going to meet this delivery driver and then in my head I remembered I still had a fucking candle going. And I was just like, oh my God, I hope that I don't get to my house and it's burnt down.
00:14:20
Speaker
It was fine. Don't pull a Sam, don't just let a candle leave your house, but it was fine. It was in a cauldron, but I will never do that again. I was freaking out the whole time. I mean, you know, I told you we always have like candles and incense going in our house and
00:14:38
Speaker
I had like a bunch of candles lit and I went around and blew them out before I went to bed but I missed one and luckily it was like the one on the island so it was like nothing around it. It was like on a wide surface but I went to sleep and woke up and was like oh the house still smells so good. Well dumbass it smelled good because you left the fucking candle burning all night. Right yeah. Terrifying but I know I came down and I was like oh my god.
00:15:02
Speaker
I'm going to burn the whole house. Thank God I didn't die last night. Yeah. It's just terrifying when you think that we are actual adults making adult decisions. I know. Look, I always say I need an adult. I get that I'm an adult, but I need an adult also.
00:15:20
Speaker
Exactly. Yeah. And you know what, for spellwork birthday candles, tea lights, candles make you feel more like an adult because they will burn out before you go to sleep, before you have to go meet a delivery driver. You're not going to wake up and be like, Oh shit. You're going to wake up and it's going to be out. So use up those birthday candles guys. You have them hidden in your drawer somewhere. Use them up. That is the one thing I do not have any of. You're telling me you don't have birthday candles in your house for all your pets.
00:15:50
Speaker
I'm just kidding. No. People do that though. They do. Which is awesome. I am a little bit too lazy for that. I shower my pets with love and treats every day. Exactly. Same. Gizmo enjoys his walks and his snuggles and all his treats and he's fine. Yep.

Tarot Cards in Witchcraft

00:16:09
Speaker
Yeah, another thing that I use in my everyday practice that is very budget friendly is tarot. Whether you read tarot or not, tarot cards can be great to incorporate in spellwork, and once you own a tarot deck, you can reuse the cards in different ways to signify different elements or deities on your altar, as well as representation in spellwork.
00:16:30
Speaker
An example of how I've used this is in Prosperity Bowls, I have used the King of Pentacles, which symbolizes success, abundance, and wealth as a way to amplify my intention. So I will take the card. I will put it in my cauldron where I have all of my other spell ingredients in my candle. Obviously I'm not lighting the tarot card on fire, but you can use the tarot card in your spell to amplify that intention.
00:16:58
Speaker
There are also printable tarot decks online that you can print off and use in either your divination work or spell work. So if you would love to have a tarot deck, but you don't have the money to invest in one, there are free printables on Pinterest. So definitely check them out. I recently bought into a Kickstarter for a tarot deck. It's a literary tarot deck and it's got all this like beautiful work on the cards that are tied into certain books. And part of the packages that you get
00:17:28
Speaker
One of them include, well, most of them include printable, like digital copies of the tarot cards too. So you have like, yeah, you have your actual tarot deck that they send you with this beautiful book and all this stuff, but you also have access to the digital prints of them.
00:17:43
Speaker
Wow. Yeah. So that's an option too. Like if you want to do something like that, like invest in the Kickstarter and get that digital tarot deck, and then you can print it off every so often, use it in your spell work. Like there are so many.
00:17:58
Speaker
kickstarters for tarot decks. I don't know if you've ever looked at that. One of our friends Jen sent me the literary tarot because she was like, I think I'm gonna buy these. And they were just too beautiful to not buy into. But I started looking as I was like, I didn't even think about like Kickstarter for something like this. There are a bajillion tarot deck like kickstarters on there. And some of them are so pretty.
00:18:20
Speaker
That's awesome. I'll have to check it out for sure. But also Hey Jen, our favorite librarian. Yes.

Using Natural Elements

00:18:27
Speaker
Another budget friendly witch tip that I incorporate a lot in my own practice is using what's outside, using nature that is growing in your area and your neck of the woods.
00:18:37
Speaker
in your everyday witchcraft is wonderful. You can use the dirt in your garden and protection work. You can use the flowers that are growing outside to either decorate your altar or incorporate into any sort of spellwork depending on if your
00:18:53
Speaker
practicing during a specific Sabbath, whatever you want to do. For instance, like for myself right now, I have an Ostarra altar that I have put together using flowers that are growing from my front yard.
00:19:08
Speaker
or front garden if you're in the UK and so I don't even know what these flowers are but we have a vine that's growing out in my front garden with a bunch of beautiful purple flowers on them like I've taken a cutting of the vine and I brought it inside and decorated my altar with it and I've also used like from nature walks like I go and walk my dog every day and as I'm walking I will pick up like dandelions or little white
00:19:34
Speaker
flowers or bluebells. We also have cherry blossoms that are blooming right now in the UK. And I will take snippets of those and I have them all over my altar. And it's just a great way to use the nature that's growing around you. Scarlet Ravenswood, who is an amazing YouTuber that we've mentioned time and again on this podcast, she has a great tip for incorporating nature into your everyday magical purposes. She mentioned celebrating nature with what is already around you.
00:20:03
Speaker
And the example that she gave is for celebrating Yule. Yule is typically associated with pine, mistletoe, and holly. However, if you are living somewhere like a tropical island where you don't have access to pine, mistletoe, and holly, she recommends using what is blooming outside instead.
00:20:22
Speaker
I think that's a really good point, though. It brings back to what we said earlier in the fact that our ancestors didn't have access to everything that we have access to today, and they used what was around them in nature. They weren't able to go online and order something and have it shipped to them.
00:20:40
Speaker
It just goes back to that, using what you have and what works for you. And moving forward with that, we'll talk about some places that you can look for things to use in your sell work.

Finding Witchcraft Supplies

00:20:50
Speaker
Remember that you should use what works for you. Don't let people tell you where you can and can't buy things. Don't let people tell you not to use the dollar store if that's what's in your budget. Do what works for you. So some places you can look are thrift shops and flea markets.
00:21:07
Speaker
When you're going through like a thrift shop or a flea market, look for things like chalices, candlestick holders, bells, jars and bottles, silver cups, brass candle holders, even just candles in general. Just make sure that anything that you purchase and bring home, that you're always clearing that item of its previous energy, whether it's like smoke cleansing or burying it in the dirt, using salt, or just like physically washing the item, because you don't want to bring any prior energy
00:21:37
Speaker
into your spellwork. Another one is like craft stores. So like my goals are Joann's or the infamous Hobby Lobby. We don't like to promote them if we can't avoid it, but you know, you could be like me and go when things are only on sale. So you're giving them as little of your money as possible.
00:21:56
Speaker
but using craft stores for things like wooden discs to paint or burn sigils or symbols onto. They have tons of bottles and jars that you can use for spell jars or moon water or just storage maybe for herbs or other like spell ingredients. You can get cords for spell cord or twine, charms, picture frames to make, scrying mirrors,
00:22:18
Speaker
fabric for your altar or a tarot cloth or just to like wrap your tools up in. Also you can get this from a craft store if you already have it. That's fine too, but a needle and thread works great too in which you practice is like you can use fabric to make charm packets and just use the needle and thread to sew it up or you can sew sigils into your clothing if that's something that you want to do. And then I mentioned it earlier but the dollar store you can go there for candles
00:22:45
Speaker
for picture frames, for glass bottles and herbs. They often have seasonal items that sometimes will tie into what you're doing, like colorful candles or something like that. Just don't let people tell you you can't use it. Obviously, they're not the best choice if you can afford to do other things. But if that's what's within your budget, make it work for you. Don't let someone else tell you not to. Exactly. And as we mentioned in our, I think one of the last episodes, I think it was a Monday magic episode.
00:23:14
Speaker
You can use chalk and you can, I mean, you can buy chalk at the Doppler store, use it to create sigils outside your home. You can even use chalk and just regular spellwork as well. Photo boxes are great for storing spell ingredients as well as like travel altars or
00:23:35
Speaker
This is also great if you're a military family and you move a lot because unfortunately, as like my family, we move basically every three years. And with that, I can't own a lot of shit. Like we are either, I have to get rid of it or I have to bring it with me. And when it comes to my altar, that's not something I don't want to get rid of those things. So.
00:23:56
Speaker
I mean, for my part or for my, which you practice, I am pretty minimalistic with the things that I buy, because I know that if we're moving every three years and especially if we're living overseas, there's only so much that I can bring in a suitcase. So I try to keep it pretty small, small enough to where I could put it in a box. That way I can put it in my suitcase and not have to worry about movers trying to handle my shit for my altar, because I don't want to deal with that. And I don't want anybody touching my shit.
00:24:25
Speaker
A few stores where I found some pretty cheap alternatives for some of the same things you could find at American craft stores are places like B&M, Wilco, and The Works. You can also go to yard sales, garage sales, or estate sales, and you can look for things like flower pots, teacups, mirrors, lampards, bottles, jugs, or like altar offering dishes.
00:24:48
Speaker
And this is a lot of the same things from thrift shops too that you can find there. Buying secondhand like at a thrift store or a flea market or a yard sale is kinder to the environment because nothing new is needing to be produced. But again, just remember to cleanse the item of its previous energies and not to bring that into your own spellwork. We mentioned it before by going out into nature.
00:25:11
Speaker
Things that you can get from that are like an acorn is said to be good for working with the fae. Feathers are said to be gifts from your allies. You can use those for protection, dream catchers, and so much more.
00:25:24
Speaker
You can just use rocks, shells, flowers that you can dry out, pine cones, sticks, snail shells, which I never would have thought of, but I came across this YouTube video and this girl was taking the shell, the snail shells in her area were more like elongated, almost like a hermit crab shell. And she was filling them with like sand and pebbles and stuff, and then tucking them with wire, like putting like wire brace around them and then adding a chain and making pendulums with them.
00:25:54
Speaker
which I thought was pretty cool. I never would have thought to do that. And then something else you could use is moss. Just let nature inspire your craft and what you do with your altar. And I found this quote by an author called Elira Rose and it said, the thrifty witch keeps his or her eye out for things to use from nature. The green witch knows that nature will leave just the most perfect thing that you need for your spell. So, you know, just go on a walk and
00:26:22
Speaker
see like what calls to you while you're outside.

Accessing Witchcraft Books

00:26:26
Speaker
Some additional tips, use your local library for books. You don't have to like purchase every book, you don't have to own every book that's recommended. Just don't download pirated PDFs of your books because that does harm to the author and it kind of like discredits all the hard work that they put into creating that book. You could shop at used bookstores
00:26:46
Speaker
In a book subscription service, like Sam and I both use Kindle Unlimited. Another one that was mentioned in an article I read was Scribd. These are cost-effective ways to read multiple books where the fee ends up paying for itself. So for Kindle Unlimited, I believe it's $9.99 a month. If you read even one book, you're more than likely to have
00:27:06
Speaker
made that fee pay for itself because most books are more than $10, unfortunately. So this is a way that you can read so many books without having to buy them or if your library doesn't have them.
00:27:18
Speaker
Yeah. And I just realized too, you can gift yourself a subscription to Kindle limited and get 40% off. So another way to get the most out of Kindle limited. I got lucky when we signed up for Kindle unlimited, there was like a special going on. So it was six months for $30. So it's basically like buy three, get three free, like three months free. That was fine. But I did see the gift yourself and I was like, dang it.

You can also craft your own tools using items from nature. So using a stick for a wand or using sticks and flowers to create pentacles or like I mentioned earlier, the girl that made pendulums out of style shells just use what's around you.
00:28:01
Speaker
You can use any notebook or journal to create your book of shadows or your grimoire. It doesn't have to be like a fancy one. You can also keep an electronic version. It doesn't even have to be anything fancy. My grimoire is literally a binder that I already had on hand at my home that I repurposed with some college ruled notebook paper and it's super easy and super cheap. You can even take
00:28:25
Speaker
paper and stain it with tea to make it more aesthetically pleasing. I obviously didn't because I was using notebook paper, but that's always an option. And I like my version of my grandma because it, if I make a mistake, I don't have to sit there and think about, Oh my God, I'm going to make a mistake. What am I going to do? It's so pretty and perfect. I don't want to make a mistake. If I make a mistake in my grandma, I just pull that bitch out, whatever paper I'm working on, and then go to a new one.

Repurposing for Witchcraft

00:28:54
Speaker
that's so smart and like more my speed because I'm chaotic on my best days and so I couldn't imagine trying to make it and just like
00:29:05
Speaker
a regular journal or notebook because I'm like, well, what if I want to organize it differently or what if I do all this stuff? And then later I find something that fits in with something that's like 10 pages in. So having a binder is really smart. It's wonderful. You can also, for sure. You could also reuse mundane things like glass jars, bottles, old towels, and cloths for your crafts. I am a jar hoarder, so.
00:29:32
Speaker
especially with using all the herbs and stuff that I do. We have jars all over the house. He was like, do you really need this jar? Absolutely. 10 out of 10, I need it. Pasta jars and pickle jars are my jam. I save all of my pasta jars and pickle jars for moonwater and I also use old candle jars. So what I'll do
00:29:55
Speaker
Is this bath and bodywork candles that we talked about earlier in the episode, once the candle is burned down too low and I can't really use the candle anymore. I will pop that bad boy in the freezer overnight and then let it sit, pull it out in the morning and pop out the wax and the wicks with a butter knife. And I use them.
00:30:15
Speaker
for all sorts of shit. You can use it for storage, for magical ingredients. You can use them for spellwork if you don't have a cauldron because it's already a heat safe jar that you use for a candle. So, you know, it's not going to just break whenever you light something on fire inside of it. I also use them around my house too, for like just random mundane things that have nothing to do with witchcraft. Like I have them, I store
00:30:40
Speaker
cotton buds and makeup remover pads and cotton balls. They are all stored in old repurposed back muddy work stars. And you can use them for anything, but especially witchy purposes. It's amazing and it's beautiful. You just pull off the label, clean them out, and they're good to go.
00:30:59
Speaker
For me, the pasta sauce jars and the pickle jars are so nice because when you're doing tinctures or infused oils or whatever you're infusing herbs into,
00:31:11
Speaker
The herbs tend to swell up and they're really hard to get out of smaller remmed jars. So like a pickle jar or a pasta sauce jar, they usually have the wide mouth so I can get my whole hand in there and pull out all of the like pulpy herb. So, cause it's nice to be able to like squeeze out every last little drop. It's much easier.
00:31:29
Speaker
So we've mentioned this a million times already, I feel like in today's podcast, but normal kitchen herbs and spices, these have magical properties as well as medicinal properties.

Magical Kitchen Herbs

00:31:40
Speaker
You don't have to buy everything from a metaphysical store for it to be magical. You can go to the dollar store and buy herbs. You can go to your local grocery store and buy herbs. It's fine. Forage when you can.
00:31:51
Speaker
But make sure that you find like a local guidebook to use or do some research because you don't want to be foraging something that could be toxic to you or your kids or your pets. And then just remember to not take everything. Leave some of the item for nature. So if you go foraging and you find maybe metal, metal is really like prominent right now with it being spring.
00:32:12
Speaker
don't take all of it because it's there for a reason or like other animals and stuff in nature also need that. So just don't take it all. You can grow your own herb garden, creating a direct relationship with nature and cutting out the cost in the long run. So it is a little bit of money upfront to get started, but once you get it started, you're not having to go buy your herbs, like your fresh herbs from the produce section of a grocery store where herbs cost
00:32:36
Speaker
a lot of money for no reason. Like they are some of the simplest plants to grow and tend. And then if you grow them, you know, you get to go out into your garden or if you keep them in the house in your kitchen and cut fresh ingredients like that day, which is really nice.
00:32:51
Speaker
And then again, just using things like rocks, pebbles, stones, shells, whatever you have, these are great alternatives for crystals. They all come from nature and the earth and they all have energy as well. So you don't have to invest in expensive crystals for your spell work or your everyday life. Like if that's what you want and that's, you can afford, that's fine.

Concluding Thoughts on Witchcraft

00:33:13
Speaker
But if you can't afford it, don't feel lesser for that. You can use rocks and pebbles and stones and you can put your own energy into them as well.
00:33:21
Speaker
Invest in things that will act as a tool for you and your craft. So maybe learning to make candles, making your own incense and teas. I do tinctures and salves and infuse oils or decoctions and infusions. Whatever is something that you want to learn that will also help you in the long run.
00:33:39
Speaker
And at the end of the day, witchcraft is a deeply personal practice and you have to find what works best for you. When it comes to spell work, you don't have to buy anything. And as you've said time and again, it's all about the intention and energy that you put into your work. Be kind to nature. Don't buy into the consumerist agenda that is pushed on every facet of social media. Reusing and repurposing things that you already own is magical in and of itself.
