Hello and welcome to the Daily Newcastle.
00:00:16
Global Sports Podcast Network
It's Crossover Thursday and of course in an FA Cup week Crossover Thursday is usually suspended. But one of the benefits of drawing your bogey theme at home in the fifth round of the FA Cup, particularly as they're going on to a match it after a four match winning run, is that you get to do a bonus crossover episode.
00:00:39
Global Sports Podcast Network
And I'm joined by Jamie from the Daily Brighton to discuss the Sunday is next sunday kickoff in the fifth round of the FA Cup against Brighton. Hello, Jamie. Welcome and thank you for joining me.
00:00:51
Jamie
Thank you for having me.
00:00:51
Global Sports Podcast Network
How are you?
00:00:52
Jamie
I'm all good. I'm feeling very good after an emphatic or say emphatic is probably the wrong choice of words. A very and impressive and good win against Bournemouth. So we're looking forward to the FA Cup now.
00:01:07
Jamie
It's competition I think we can get quite far in. So fingers crossed.
00:01:13
Global Sports Podcast Network
Well, one more game, Jamie, one more game. m We could talk about the game last night because I watched it and you were telling me that because you've been you look like guys have all been working and I've not had a chance to do any sort of review of that match.
00:01:23
Jamie
Yeah, we haven't had a chance.
00:01:27
Global Sports Podcast Network
I mean, it's still current if it's going out on Wednesday morning.
00:01:30
Global Sports Podcast Network
I was quite impressed with Brighton, although equally impressed with Bournemouth, who, of course, we had a real close-up view of how good they were just a few weeks ago because they really spanked us at St. James' Park.
00:01:31
Jamie
Yeah.
00:01:42
Global Sports Podcast Network
But that ah think they came back into it a bit in the second and half, didn't they?
00:01:47
Global Sports Podcast Network
Although it was you that got the decisive goal.
00:01:47
Jamie
Yeah.
00:01:50
Jamie
Yeah, it was very much a game of two halves, that one. I think we were very good in the first half and probably could have put away two or three chances. ah We won't get into the penalty. It is probably quite fortunate for us. I don't know how Joe and Bless feel about it because we haven't actually had our review yet, but I don't think it was a penalty, but we'll take it.
00:02:14
Global Sports Podcast Network
Well, i thought it what I thought it was a penalty.
00:02:14
Jamie
I mean, that's... Yeah, okay, sweet. So we'll...
00:02:18
Global Sports Podcast Network
I thought it was a penalty. it was it was It was worked out by the forward. Is it, I can never say his name, Joe, what do you call him?
00:02:26
Jamie
Pedro. Xiao Pedro.
00:02:30
Global Sports Podcast Network
Joe Pedro got his foot to the ball first and just put it past the keeper. And the keeper is just down on his knees and and a complete obstacle.
00:02:38
Jamie
Yeah.
00:02:41
Global Sports Podcast Network
So yeah, he tripped him.
00:02:41
Jamie
run and
00:02:43
Jamie
Yeah.
00:02:43
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah If he'd run into him, I think it would have been allowed to play on, but it was definitely a penalty.
00:02:50
Jamie
Yeah. Oh, well, we'll take the neutral view.
00:02:54
Global Sports Podcast Network
But do think he worked it really well.
00:02:57
Jamie
Yeah, you was he was smart in winning it.
00:02:57
Global Sports Podcast Network
and there but
00:02:59
Jamie
Yeah.
00:02:59
Global Sports Podcast Network
He was very smart in winning it, but it was a penalty. And the you know that proved yeah decisive, didn't it? And well done for beating Bournemouth, because if they had picked any points up, they'd have got back above us.
00:03:08
Jamie
Yeah.
00:03:13
Global Sports Podcast Network
and Chelsea did anyway. Pulled us back down into sixth place, but Bournemouth are still behind us. So now, I'm sitting on tenterhits because in about an hour we kick off against the Liverpool.
00:03:26
Global Sports Podcast Network
and Probably a free hit, if I'm honest, because all of our all of our rivals up there in the top six, seven seem to lose on the weekend and we won.
00:03:29
Jamie
Yeah.
00:03:37
Global Sports Podcast Network
So I guess we can have afford a loss without falling too far behind. Although,
00:03:41
Jamie
Yeah.
00:03:42
Global Sports Podcast Network
Brighton are one of a chasing pack that do keep winning and closing that gap. Five points there is between Forrest and third and and forget who it is who's down in 10.
00:03:48
Jamie
Exactly.
00:03:53
Global Sports Podcast Network
Probably Villa by now.
00:03:54
Jamie
Yeah. the Villa are in 10th and they're on 42 and yeah. Forrester third with 47 and we're in the middle of that with 43 ourselves and is an interesting like such a good season if you're not like a I think relegation is basically done for I think the title is basically done for but it's such an exciting season for the European places which is quite refreshing to see I'd say like
00:04:05
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:04:22
Jamie
Forget about like the big teams and the small teams, but like the mid-table clashes, it could go any way.
00:04:22
Global Sports Podcast Network
very refreshing.
00:04:28
Jamie
I couldn't tell you who's going to end up with the Champions League spots, because there's five this season. I could say, i believe Man City will. I think Arsenal and Liverpool are obviously a given.
00:04:39
Jamie
And then I think the other two are very much up for grabs. and you I mean, even clubs like Fulham, you could probably see getting pushed.
00:04:47
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, it can, but just widen. and Just to keep the interest from more clubs going, Palace are on an incredible run and they absolutely hammered Villa last night.
00:04:58
Jamie
Yes, yeah.
00:05:01
Global Sports Podcast Network
We still have 11 games to go. They're not that far behind. The Tottenham guys, who I think are on 33 points, so miles behind, but they've won three on the bounce. Their players are starting to come back.
00:05:13
Global Sports Podcast Network
The Tottenham fans do got a sneaky suspicion that they might just sneak into Europe this year. Well, I mean, that's virtually most of the league that's facing it, isn't it?
00:05:19
Jamie
Yeah. ah
00:05:23
Global Sports Podcast Network
One team who won't be is Manchester United.
00:05:23
Jamie
I'm not going to lie.
00:05:26
Jamie
No.
00:05:26
Global Sports Podcast Network
Never mind.
00:05:28
Jamie
I'm not to lie, if the Tottenham fans think they have any chance of getting into Europe, they're delusional. I'm going to end that right there. I'm going to say that as a statement. They are off their rocker because they're still... they They might have won three in a row.
00:05:43
Jamie
They've won against shoddy teams. I mean, Ipswich, relegated. Man United, they've been poor. And then they lost to Aston Villa. I can't remember if that was in the... Was that in the Cup or was that a...
00:05:57
Global Sports Podcast Network
but
00:05:58
Jamie
Oh, that was the Cup game, wasn't it? was this FA Cup game.
00:06:00
Global Sports Podcast Network
I think Villa, yeah, Villa and have them out.
00:06:01
Jamie
So, yeah. yeah ah They're still frailty.
00:06:04
Global Sports Podcast Network
they've got <unk>ve got City tonight, so let's hope they can do all of us a favour and actually win one more game with this unbeaten run, and then they can get back to normal, losing at home to whoever it is who turns up to play them.
00:06:09
Jamie
teacher Yeah.
00:06:16
Jamie
Yeah.
00:06:17
Global Sports Podcast Network
um Anyway,
00:06:21
Global Sports Podcast Network
we've got you in the cup. Not sure if we should be talking about the Premier League all of the time like that. There are only one team in England that hasn't lost a cup match yet this year, by the way, this season.
00:06:26
Jamie
Yep.
00:06:30
Jamie
Yeah.
00:06:30
Global Sports Podcast Network
you know who that is?
00:06:32
Jamie
Newcastle.
00:06:33
Global Sports Podcast Network
That's the one! Yeah, um you know, it's only the second time in history that ah come the 1st of February, Newcastle's chances of its level. I know it's a slim chance, but it still exists.
00:06:49
Global Sports Podcast Network
And we've only ever done that twice, so that means... effectively that by the time the Carabao Cup, sorry, the FA Cup kicks off and we get into round four, we are always knocked out of the Carabao Cup.
00:07:01
Global Sports Podcast Network
So this year we're not. So we're going to shout it from the rooftops.
00:07:04
Jamie
Mm. Mm.
00:07:05
Global Sports Podcast Network
The treble is still on.
00:07:07
Global Sports Podcast Network
There'll have to be a few strange results for that to happen, I think. But there you go.
00:07:07
Jamie
Mm.
00:07:10
Jamie
see i
00:07:12
Global Sports Podcast Network
I do, and you hear you hear it here first, I do think Arsenal are going to get leapfrogged by so many teams, though, because I can't see them. They've got some tough games. And they're not they're not looking like they're going score very many goals.
00:07:25
Global Sports Podcast Network
mean, we've kept three clean sheets against them this year. year that That's so how poor the Arsenal defence is. Let's bring them back into it. It'd be so funny if Arteta had cry because they finished sixth and they don't qualify for the Champions League.
00:07:41
Global Sports Podcast Network
I will laugh. I will laugh.
00:07:44
Global Sports Podcast Network
but That's not what we're here to talk about, Jamie. We're here talk about Sunday's game and the FA Cup. What's Brighton's recent record in the FA Cup like?
00:07:44
Jamie
ah
00:07:54
Jamie
Well, we've had a...
00:07:54
Global Sports Podcast Network
I don't mean the games, but...
00:07:56
Jamie
Yeah, we beat Chelsea.
00:07:57
Global Sports Podcast Network
Go on.
00:07:58
Jamie
And that was a kind of rivalry we have with them as of late because they keep pinching our players. So it's always good to stick it to them. So we stuck it to them twice in the same week. um We've also beaten Crawley crawlly and There was another team that I... and Norwich, we battered 4-0.
00:08:18
Jamie
That was it. And that was a very comfortable game. But the thing with bright with Brighton and with us playing in the FA Cup this season, we've taken it very seriously, which I quite like because it's always good to see, especially if you're only playing once a week. The only competition that we're in is obviously the Premier League.
00:08:36
Jamie
So we need to take these.
00:08:37
Global Sports Podcast Network
Mm-hmm.
00:08:38
Jamie
I don't see the point of like... And we're obviously never going to get relegated. The fans want to see trophies. So to take it seriously, to play a proper line-up, like your starting line-up, each and every time you play in the FA Cup, it's a really good omen for us, I would say.
00:08:56
Jamie
And it's it's a good sign of Herzl really wanting to push for elite ah ah a domestic cup or a trophy of some sort.
00:09:06
Global Sports Podcast Network
He doesn't strike me as ah he sounds he seems very pragmatic manager and he'll take each game as it comes. I can't see him easing off in the FA Cup because recent results have pushed Brighton in for a European push.
00:09:20
Global Sports Podcast Network
I agree. i um Eddie Howe is very similar as well. He wants, particularly when we're not in Europe this year, he wants to go hard in both of the Cups.
00:09:32
Global Sports Podcast Network
Now, we've been able in in our run to play We played Bromley and fell behind at home to Bromley, um but with largely a second-string team.
00:09:45
Global Sports Podcast Network
But not the kids, the second part of the squad, who all need to keep Matt fit, so that was good. It was cleed were a little bit stronger when we went down and played against Birmingham, which was a tough tough old game. 3-2 we won at Birmingham.
00:10:00
Global Sports Podcast Network
I don't think they've lost since last August in the first division. So, please do that one. And in fact, by the end, Dimaris, Finale, they were all on the pitch. Make sure that we hung on to that one.
00:10:12
Global Sports Podcast Network
So, yeah, we will be full strength, whatever full strength means, against you on Sunday. day And I expect Brighton will also be full strength against us.
00:10:12
Jamie
Yeah.
00:10:21
Jamie
Mm. Yeah, that's what I anticipate. Because get into the closing stages of the FA Cup. Basically, you can see like the finish line, especially when so many teams have so many good teams have gone out.
00:10:37
Jamie
For example, Liverpool and Arsenal, Chelsea as well.
00:10:38
Global Sports Podcast Network
We're
00:10:41
Jamie
it would been like i think we were probably third and fourth favourites. I think Bournemouth might have been like third favourites. I think Newcastle was second, actually.
00:10:54
Global Sports Podcast Network
but second behind Man City, yeah.
00:10:54
Jamie
from Yeah, it was Man City, new ah Newcastle, Bournemouth when I last looked. And then I think it was and Villa were tied as like fourth and fifth favourites.
00:11:06
Jamie
And when you kind of look at, put it in that perspective, that's why you should be taking these competitions so seriously, is there is a chance of winning it.
00:11:12
Global Sports Podcast Network
absolutely Absolutely. Well,
00:11:16
Global Sports Podcast Network
and it's straight into, as we found to our cost last year, it's straight into where the Europa League if you win it.
00:11:23
Global Sports Podcast Network
um Because we should have been in Europe this year, but Man U beat Man City in the FA Cup final last year and pinched our Europa League spot or our European Conference spot.
00:11:23
Jamie
Yeah.
00:11:28
Jamie
Yeah.
00:11:34
Global Sports Podcast Network
Anyway, it doesn't matter. um I'm going to pause there. Jamie, I'm just going to let you hear my old buddy Ken doing his Dorset tones for Cristiano Ronaldo.
00:11:45
Global Sports Podcast Network
Here he comes.
00:12:24
Global Sports Podcast Network
That's good. Thanks, Ken. And welcome, Cristiano. Back to part two. So we're both at full strength, but that'll be the best team that we can get out. There may well be some people missing.
00:12:38
Global Sports Podcast Network
How how is your Brighton squad shaping up injury-wise?
00:12:43
Jamie
ah I think not too badly, really. Like, we're missing players, but I wouldn't say... We've done well without them, and I don't think they... Like, our starting XI, I would say, are probably still there, minus, I guess, Caddyoglu. But he he was brought in as our full-back, and we're kind of having to play Lamptey as full-back. Yeah.
00:13:12
Jamie
and And he was meant to be the backup. But Caddy Ogle was meant to be the starter. He could play on both sides. He's been injured for so long, though, that we've grown accustomed to not having him in our lineup.
00:13:25
Jamie
Veltman was a loss, but I think that was just a knock against Bournemouth. So I think he'll be back.
00:13:30
Global Sports Podcast Network
Mm-hmm.
00:13:31
Jamie
And then Lewis Dunk hasn't... He got injured, but then he's also not that good. And we've been so much better this whole season without him.
00:13:43
Jamie
So um we we me and the boys on our podcast ah banter about it quite often. We are thinking it's time Lewis Dunk calls it a day, retires, goes to coaching the Brighton under-23s or whatever they might be.
00:13:58
Jamie
And then he can retire at Brighton as a boyhood legend, legend of the club. so But other than that, i mean I'd say we've still got a perfectly suitable line-up.
00:14:06
Global Sports Podcast Network
still Yeah.
00:14:11
Jamie
I'd say it's not far off our actual strongest lineup. The attacking options are in abundance. And we've got Danny Welbeck that's come back from his little knock as well.
00:14:22
Global Sports Podcast Network
They did look really, really sharp last night. Welbeck came on, changed the game. Scored the last...
00:14:27
Jamie
Yeah.
00:14:28
Global Sports Podcast Network
Scored the decisive goal. Scored the goal with Brighton's only touch in our box up at St James' Park back in the autumn. um that was a travesty we honestly you could have taken the goalkeeper off after an hour and we still wouldn't have scored but kind of a revenge on Sunday on that from a Newcastle point of view um I'm just I was just slightly distracted because they've announced the team that's playing Liverpool in an hour and no sign of Joe Linton or Botman who are two big big first team players for us that we would have
00:15:06
Global Sports Podcast Network
We certainly want to get them back as soon as possible, definitely for the Caramau Cup final that's coming up in three weeks, but but we'd like them back for the Brighton game. One thing which you wouldn't know, which might give you a little bit of help, because I'm the big spot.
00:15:21
Global Sports Podcast Network
Callum Wilson starts at centre-forward. Isaac misses out with a slight groin problem. That's a bit of a concern, isn't it?
00:15:28
Jamie
Oh That is a concern for you guys, that's brilliant for us
00:15:30
Global Sports Podcast Network
ah know. I'm hoping...
00:15:34
Global Sports Podcast Network
I know. It's frightening, isn't it? It's frightening. Because Izak is just about the only centre-forward I've seen that gives Virgil van Dijk nightmares.
00:15:45
Global Sports Podcast Network
He seems to score against Liverpool every time he plays. We can't actually beat them, but Izak scores every time he plays against them. and have we got here? Tricia Craft, Target, Longstaff, Miley Barnes, Asula.
00:15:59
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, so Wilson's been out for a long, long time, but he's playing centre-forward tonight. Barnes has been out for a long time. He's back on the bench. I think he came on against Forrest.
00:16:10
Global Sports Podcast Network
We've got a squad to put a decent team out. But, to be fair, if we miss Botman, Joe Linton and Isaac out of our first team, it's like taking a...
00:16:22
Global Sports Podcast Network
like taking a central spine out of the whole team.
00:16:22
Jamie
The spine.
00:16:25
Jamie
Yeah.
00:16:25
Global Sports Podcast Network
I'm very worried about what's going to happen at Liverpool tonight.
00:16:26
Jamie
Those are big losses, yeah, definitely.
00:16:29
Global Sports Podcast Network
They may... because they we're talking about being very close for this Liverpool game, so hopefully all three of them will be in consideration for the game against New York. um I'm a little bit stunned. I didn't know I was going to get that sort team news.
00:16:47
Global Sports Podcast Network
um We've not got any expenses or anything, so it should be that lot. And of course, there'll be 52,000
00:16:55
Global Sports Podcast Network
also that you'll have to overcome because that's the 12th man when we're in a cup match um arsenal couldn't do it excellent so um
00:17:01
Jamie
and susan
00:17:07
Jamie
But hey, we've we've gone there. We've gone there before and and already this season and managed to snatch a 1-0. I think that that was the game last...
00:17:15
Global Sports Podcast Network
i know know
00:17:19
Jamie
ah So that's the game that sticks in my mind of Herzler really coming to his own as a manager and like really showing signs of what a top manager he could be because there are a couple...
00:17:29
Jamie
think the game before that, we got battered by Chelsea um before we played you last. and We got battered by Chelsea and Herzler knew he couldn't play the high line that he wanted.
00:17:41
Jamie
So he played really compact, really defensive, which was a complete opposite of how we had played leading into that game against Newcastle last time we played.
00:17:50
Global Sports Podcast Network
Mm-hmm.
00:17:51
Jamie
And we sat deep. We had barely any of the ball. I'm looking at the stats now. You 60%. We had 40%.
00:17:58
Jamie
And we just kind of snatched our chance. And yeah, you had 21 shots and were quite content with giving you the ball and allowing you to shoot from far out or from the corners, like from the corners of the box and in difficult areas.
00:18:18
Jamie
And i think we could maybe see more of the same again.
00:18:23
Global Sports Podcast Network
Well, we're traditionally not very good against the low block.
00:18:26
Jamie
Yeah. Yeah.
00:18:28
Global Sports Podcast Network
We're a transition team. which they you know So Arsenal should do this. Liverpool should do this. That being said, when after they'd had their talking to and they went and played away Ipswich and they had Leicester at home and there were two low blocks that they played there and they just brushed them aside.
00:18:50
Global Sports Podcast Network
to be fair, Man U had a bit of a low block when we went there and knocked them over as well.
00:18:55
Jamie
yeah
00:18:55
Global Sports Podcast Network
and So I don't think you can generalise too much on it. um But if Brighton are playing a low block, then you we'll be wise to it. And hopefully, hopefully we can't go for another hour and a half with, as you say, 21 shots and not have one of them going, or two even.
00:19:15
Global Sports Podcast Network
um But yeah, I was there that night. That was, it was The thing is you couldn't complain. You couldn't complain like losing at home to Fulham or Bournemouth when we were just literally awful.
00:19:26
Global Sports Podcast Network
Because we actually played really quite well um against our you know one of our bogey teams. I know we won. Did we win at the end of the season? of The season we qualified for the Champions League?
00:19:41
Global Sports Podcast Network
That's a really unusual result against Brighton. We tend to and to struggle against you guys.
00:19:44
Jamie
Yeah. Yeah, 2023. Yeah. and twenty twenty three
00:19:46
Global Sports Podcast Network
and You mentioned Lamptey before. I can remember Lamptey coming up when Bruce was the manager. And but i think Brighton was three up after about 20 minutes. And it was largely the pace of Lamptey coming up the right side that did fall in.
00:20:01
Jamie
yeah
00:20:03
Global Sports Podcast Network
Anyway, I'm just going to pause there. We will have a brief chat about who we're most worried about on each other side and then do some predictions after I've written read the Zencastr adverts.
00:20:16

00:21:00
Jamie
and
00:21:00
Global Sports Podcast Network
Never mind.
00:21:03
Global Sports Podcast Network
Who will you be most worried about it on Sunday in the Newcastle side, Jamie?
00:21:10
Jamie
Well, it depends if Ezak plays, because he is the man that I think is absolutely phenomenal. ah ah so i so I said this as soon as he came over, I said he came over from Real Soestead and I thought, you know what? This guy is so technically good. Like he can carry the ball. He can finish. He's basically an all rounder. He's like a brilliant, like one of the top strikes in the world, in my opinion.
00:21:36
Jamie
um And so depends if he's playing, but if he's not, the other threat that and you probably hear this all the time is Anthony Gordon. I think he is, It's crazy like how good he is compared to how I thought... Or compared to what I thought when you first signed him for £50 million from Everton.
00:21:56
Global Sports Podcast Network
No, he is much better.
00:21:56
Jamie
I thought, what an absolute...
00:21:59
Global Sports Podcast Network
He is much better than when we signed him.
00:22:01
Jamie
Yeah, I mean, I thought, what a waste of money. he's and I didn't even rate him at Everton, but good God, he is something special now. And I fear him going up against... If Veltman comes back, Veltman's very solid.
00:22:15
Jamie
um So he will have that. And then if we do play a low block, we'll be playing, we have played, this is, we've only played it once, but it was the game before, ah was against Chelsea, where we played a five at the back and Minta as kind of a wing back.
00:22:34
Jamie
And he would look after though the other team's left winger. So in that case, I think it was Jadon Sancho and Maduaki. who are nowhere near as good as Anthony Gordon. So i kind of I'm interested to see, a if we play five of the back and whether Minter will be a right wing back. um and then will he Because he'll have the pace to deal with Gordon, but will he have the defensive nous to kind of... Because he's actually a winger.
00:23:05
Jamie
So will he have the defensive nous to deal with him or eat properly against him?
00:23:07
Global Sports Podcast Network
He looked good last night.
00:23:10
Jamie
Oh, he's brilliant, yeah.
00:23:10
Global Sports Podcast Network
He was back at his own block defending last night. I thought he was excellent.
00:23:13
Jamie
Yeah, oh. He is an absolutely brilliant, like, his best skill, a bit of an exaggeration, is probably defending. His defensive work and his tenacity and him just going at opponents is so good.
00:23:27
Jamie
That's why Herzl looked at him and probably thought, you'd make a brilliant wingback. And this is when, ah coming off the Nottingham Forest loss, that's when we changed it to put him as a wingback where he would guard.
00:23:31
Global Sports Podcast Network
Hmm.
00:23:40
Jamie
the the other winger, and Veltman would kind of sit behind him and then they would double up against whichever winger that is. So i fight if that happens again, i can see Gordon being kind of shut out, but he's always a threat, to be honest.
00:23:58
Global Sports Podcast Network
Well, they, yeah, four times we went in 11 minutes up the left is go and scored against Nottingham Forest. And it wasn't, Gordon was an integral part of it. Willock, who had taken over Joe Linton's midfield place and is very good down the left as well, and Lewis Hall combined it fantastically well.
00:24:13
Jamie
Yeah.
00:24:18
Jamie
Yeah.
00:24:19
Global Sports Podcast Network
For that 20-minute period, it did nothing else at all for the whole game.
00:24:20
Jamie
Lewis Hall was brilliant in that game.
00:24:24
Global Sports Podcast Network
But, that yeah, midfair, midfair were very,
00:24:29
Global Sports Podcast Network
all about. Minter was a great spot for us to get the six million. Send him out for a year on loan. Come back, a ready-made right-wing replacement for Jacob Murphy.
00:24:40
Jamie
Mm-mm.
00:24:42
Global Sports Podcast Network
But we had to sell him because we dropped the yeah ball on PSR. Him and Elliot Anderson, who of course was the man of the match for Nottingham Forest on Saturday or Sunday,
00:24:50
Jamie
Yeah.
00:24:55
Global Sports Podcast Network
So, yeah, two real assets. Whenever Eddie Howe mentions either of them, you can see the tears welling up in his eyes. He did not want to lose those two guys. They were an integral part of going forward.
00:25:08
Global Sports Podcast Network
So, of course, i think that means that Minter is destined to give us nightmares for about the next 15 years ah because he should be wearing black and white, but there you go. um Down on the right...
00:25:24
Global Sports Podcast Network
not well I think Murphy goes under the radar a little bit because he isn't Anthony Gordon.
00:25:29
Jamie
Yeah.
00:25:29
Global Sports Podcast Network
But he he just combined quite well.
00:25:30
Jamie
It's very solid. Yeah.
00:25:32
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, Liveramento is, again, Liveramento is an excellent full-back. Hasn't been spectacular as Lewis Hall.
00:25:44
Global Sports Podcast Network
But he was the first of the two of them to be called into the England squad. He didn't get on in that situation.
00:25:49
Jamie
Yeah.
00:25:51
Global Sports Podcast Network
that selection and then Lewis Hall would pick the next time but he was third called up so yeah um I was a bit concerned with your whole whole forward line and Thelma is absolutely fantastic player although he cost me £600 last night I picked four goal scorers and I had um had Mateta and Morgan Rogers in the Villa Palace game
00:26:05
Jamie
He's flying at the moment. Top form.
00:26:22
Global Sports Podcast Network
and I had Matoma and Private. Private scored for Bournemouth, didn't he?
00:26:29
Jamie
Yeah.
00:26:30
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, my fiver on that would have paid £588, and then Matoma hit the post the first half as well.
00:26:31
Jamie
Well...
00:26:36
Jamie
Yep, yep.
00:26:36
Global Sports Podcast Network
that's how That's how far away it was. Never mind. and What can you do? Fantastic player, though. um And Welbeck as well. all I mean, he has done in his Man United and his Arsenal days as well.
00:26:51
Global Sports Podcast Network
seems to turn up and play against Newcastle. um And he scored the winner it back in the autumn as well. So there's lots to fear, I think, particularly on the back of a hammering at Liverpool, which I'm anticipating now, by getting Brighton at home.
00:27:00
Jamie
Yeah.
00:27:09
Global Sports Podcast Network
I've got tickets. I will be there. I've lovely tickets. at the back of the Gallagher end, so a fantastic view ah across above the goal. He is hoping it's not like Saturday when I was on the Leeds' end and six of the seven goals went in at the other end, so didn't see very much of them. and Forecasts and predictions, Jamie.
00:27:32
Global Sports Podcast Network
What do you think the score's going to be? We can't, of course, have a draw and go to replay, can we?
00:27:37
Jamie
No, exactly. It would have to go to... I'm going to say... think this can be a tight one, to be fair. I'm going to...
00:27:46
Global Sports Podcast Network
I agree.
00:27:47
Jamie
I think it will be 1-0. And I think it could go all the way to penalties. I'm going to be bold, and I'm just going to pick that.
00:27:54
Global Sports Podcast Network
the
00:27:57
Global Sports Podcast Network
One all, then extra time, and then penalties.
00:27:59
Jamie
Then penalties. Yep.
00:28:02
Global Sports Podcast Network
And then in this but who are you going to guess on that then? who What are you like on penalties?
00:28:05
Jamie
Oh, God, I've got to back Brighton. I'm back in Brighton.
00:28:11
Global Sports Podcast Network
OK. OK. It's the tip of the coin, really, isn't it? ah particularly if we haven't got Izak, who would take the first penalty.
00:28:20
Jamie
Yeah. Exactly.
00:28:22
Global Sports Podcast Network
and I'm going to... I can see a similar game to the game against Nottingham Forest, which was... It was sort of end-to-end. It's just that it was all Newcastle at one end in the first half, and then all Forest at the other end in the second half.
00:28:37
Global Sports Podcast Network
Usually, they're split up, though, it's end-to-end throughout the course of the 90 minutes. I see a game like that.
00:28:44
Global Sports Podcast Network
I don't think... I don't think he'll be playing a low block. I think he'll be playing a plain low block, but on the transition, very because he's so fast going forward. um think I think it'll be goals. I would say going to go... um I'm going to go 3-2 Newcastle, of course.
00:29:05
Global Sports Podcast Network
Maybe that's after a 2-0 90 minutes and we get one in extra time. um But I think we'll edge it. But I've got to say that.
00:29:15
Jamie
Yeah.
00:29:15
Global Sports Podcast Network
I think if between us we say it's going to be really, really close.
00:29:18
Jamie
and
00:29:19
Global Sports Podcast Network
It is going to be really close.
00:29:20
Jamie
Yeah.
00:29:23
Global Sports Podcast Network
go ahead
00:29:23
Jamie
Exactly.
00:29:24
Jamie
I think it will be tight.
00:29:24
Global Sports Podcast Network
Well,
00:29:25
Jamie
It'll be interesting to see. And then whoever wins will be one step closer to the FA Cup. The prestigious, the oldest cup in history.
00:29:34
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah.
00:29:38
Global Sports Podcast Network
I know. Well, if you get a home draw in the next round,
00:29:38
Jamie
think.
00:29:42
Global Sports Podcast Network
You're then at Wembley, aren't you?
00:29:42
Jamie
Yeah.
00:29:43
Global Sports Podcast Network
Because you're winning your quarterfinal at home and semifinals are Wembley, I think.
00:29:48
Jamie
Yeah.
00:29:49
Global Sports Podcast Network
which Which we were working out if we win that and then go to the final, we'll be at Wembley three times this season.
00:29:56
Jamie
yeah
00:29:57
Global Sports Podcast Network
And the charity shield at the start of next season. But we'll see. That's the just what Newcastle supporters talk about when they're when they're left on their own. I don't think anyone's talking about that to anybody else, to be honest.
00:30:09
Global Sports Podcast Network
because it's, well, it's the dream, isn't it? No trophies for 70 years, and we go ahead and win two of them in the same season.
00:30:16
Jamie
yeah
00:30:17
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah. We've all been to church every Sunday this season. Jamie, thank you very much indeed for getting us the an irregular crossover podcast out.
00:30:29
Jamie
yeah
00:30:30
Global Sports Podcast Network
Just feel a bit weird to be talking about Sunday's game when I'm within an hour of tonight's game kicking off.
00:30:34
Jamie
yeah
00:30:36
Global Sports Podcast Network
But... All the best for the rest of the season. I hope you continue to stay one point behind us and then we'll both qualify for Europe. How does that sound?
00:30:44
Jamie
Yes, exactly. That sounds good. We'll take it.
00:30:47
Global Sports Podcast Network
Excellent. Cheers and thank you all the listeners for listening.
00:30:52
Jamie
Yeah, thank you guys.
00:30:52
Global Sports Podcast Network
um we will see you We will see you tomorrow on Daily Newcastle where the gang will actually review to tonight's game and then they'll do their own preview of the match against Brighton.
00:31:05
Global Sports Podcast Network
