Episode Preview: Key Matches

00:00:44
Speaker
Hello and welcome back to the Daily English Premier League podcast and the Daily Newcastle podcast.
00:00:52
Speaker
I'm back on there as well after my earlier crossover from the Liverpool podcast, if you recognise my voice. My name is Louis Easton and I have got so much to unpack in today's episode.

West Ham vs. Newcastle Recap

00:01:05
Speaker
Last night there was a terrific battle between West Ham And Newcastle United. And of course tonight in the Champions League, Liverpool host PSG.
00:01:17
Speaker
Plenty to talk about there as well. But we'll start off with that West Ham-Newcastle game, shall we? That was... Absolute carnage. Unbelievable.
00:01:28
Speaker
ah You look at the stats behind that game. 51-49 in possession and nine shots each. But it was Newcastle who came out on top. Mind you, a very nervy end to the game.
00:01:44
Speaker
um Going into this game, West Ham scored five goals in their last five games, winning their last two, including that shock win at the Emirates. ah Newcastle went to the London Stadium after losing their last two games in all competition, their last game being a home loss in extra time to Brighton.
00:02:01
Speaker
However, Isak started his first match of March, definitely one for Liverpool to worry about for Sunday. I'll allude to that more in this podcast, I imagine, as a Liverpool fan. And the Toon Army also scored eight in their last five without keeping a single clean sheet.
00:02:20
Speaker
It was 1-0 in the end, Bruno Guimaraes' goal being the only difference between the two. And he also picked up the man of the match award, player of the match award, whatever you want to call it. But just to give you a stat that underlines his importance to this Newcastle team this season...
00:02:38
Speaker
He has been fouled 92 times this season. The second most is also Newcastle player Anthony Gordon and Matthias Cunha.
00:02:51
Speaker
They have 58. So that means there is a 34 foul gap between Bruno Guimaraes and second place in the Premier League out of every single player this season.
00:03:04
Speaker
That just underlines his importance, his willingness to get stuck in. And what a terrific performance as well, getting the only goal. um And I'm not going to talk too much about this match because I have a Ian Mackay, ah who gives his reaction to all of the action ah between West Ham and Newcastle.

Analysis of Newcastle's Victory

00:03:26
Speaker
I'm going to hand over to him right now.
00:03:29
Speaker
Hello, this is Ian Mackay from the Daily Newcastle reporting in the immediate aftermath of a very uncomfortable 90-minute watch. Very tense game.
00:03:40
Speaker
and Newcastle took on West Ham in London tonight in the Premier League. A strange game. Part massive distraction, but also the most important game the Premier League of the season so the most important game in the premier league of the seasons so far for Newcastle.
00:03:58
Speaker
A distraction because, of course, we're all looking forward to the Cup final, Carabao Cup final with Liverpool next week. And we'd had one or two body blows in terms of first choice players who are now out of that game.
00:04:11
Speaker
um We didn't want any

Newcastle's Premier League Prospects

00:04:13
Speaker
more injuries. We didn't really want to play a Premier League game, but we needed to. And we needed to win it given our indifferent form the last four or five games.
00:04:23
Speaker
So on to the game. It was tense. Waiting. for Newcastle to to give their traditional gift away in the first 10 minutes, which we managed to avoid.
00:04:35
Speaker
Watching Tino Lovremento fill in for the missing Lewis Hall at left back and identifying straight away that he doesn't have a left foot. But to be fair to him and Dan Byrne, they kept Bowen and Juan Bissaka pretty quiet all night.
00:04:53
Speaker
Just wondering if they can combine as effectively against Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold next week in the Cup Final. Newcastle scored a goal after about an hour. Harvey Barnes, who actually made the West Ham goalkeeper work on two or three occasions, provided the assist for Bruno Guimaras to stood a ball in.
00:05:17
Speaker
um Not convinced at all that Harvey Barnes is a as a replacement for Anthony Gordon. He's had so little first team football in the last six months that he just doesn't look as sharp as he should do and certainly not as dynamic as Gordon who will be missing because of his crazy behavior in the Cup final in the Cup quarter-final against Brighton, whatever that was. It was a fifth round match. You know what I'm talking about.
00:05:50
Speaker
Ridiculous for the boy to be able to do something to get himself missing for next week. The more West Ham brought forwards on, the more comfortable Newcastle's defence looked.
00:06:03
Speaker
And it was a very timely clean sheet for us to have. and We played Liverpool not long ago. They didn't get out of second gear. They won with a goal in each half very comfortably.
00:06:17
Speaker
and We were missing Isaac and although Isaac had a quiet game tonight, he did look reasonably fit. I think it was a service which meant that he was quiet.
00:06:29
Speaker
um And hopefully he'll be there against Liverpool next week. So maybe Virgil van Dijk will have some interrupted sleep on the Saturday night.
00:06:41
Speaker
Because he never looks comfortable, Mark and Man of the match was awarded to Bruno Gomorrah, our captain, our talisman. Apparently, we've only failed to win one match, which in fact was the last match. and We've only failed to win one match where he scored and he scored our goal.
00:07:03
Speaker
And as I said, once we went ahead, we started looking comfortable towards the end.

Champions League Aspirations for Newcastle

00:07:08
Speaker
But I'm not sure. I think that might be just because West Ham are a team with as fragile a confidence as what Newcastle have.
00:07:19
Speaker
Gamaris was OK. But real real man of the match for me was Sandro Tonali, who really bossed the midfield. The stats at the end were that he won nine out of his nine duels.
00:07:31
Speaker
He'd had a quiet game against Liverpool, seemed bit overawed by them, and Gomaris was way off it. One thing's for sure, we will have joe Linton back in the midfield for the Cup final next week.
00:07:44
Speaker
With Joe Linton, Tonali and Gomaris, we have a midfield to rival anybody's in the Premier League. So hopefully that will make us more competitive. and Good news for us to win.
00:07:57
Speaker
It takes us back up into sixth and only two points off fourth rather than languishing in the ninth place that we found ourselves after the rest of the weekend's games were completed.
00:08:08
Speaker
um So we're still battling away for a top five place in the Champions League next year. There are 10 games left. We think six more wins puts us on 65 points and that will give us a fighting chance of finishing in the top five.
00:08:23
Speaker
of course we can set aside the premier league for a little while now because following our cup final next week it's the international break so uh we'll be looking forward to welcoming anthony gordon back mid-april uh looking forward to ah hopefully livermento settling in on the left-hand side a little bit more and pushing on because we have Four of the next five games are at home.
00:08:56
Speaker
And if we can pick our four wins up at home, and they are very winnable games, I hope that we would be into the top four and and actually pulling clear of these teams who seem to win and lose and win and lose every week, a bit like us, because it's really, really tight in the Premier League at the moment.
00:09:13
Speaker
And if we're honest, that's the big prize, a top five place in the Champions League, Although we'd all been dreaming for 70 years about winning a cup. Anyway, I'm going to bed happy tonight.
00:09:27
Speaker
See you soon. That was Ian Mackay speaking from the Daily Newcastle. I'm sure if you're listening to this on the Daily Newcastle podcast, you'll recognise that voice by now.
00:09:40
Speaker
And you won't need me to remind you of who that is. So Newcastle, as Ian mentioned, in sixth place on the same amount of points as Manchester City, only behind by six on goal difference.
00:09:52
Speaker
um Still hoping for that Champions League football at the end of the season with a final on Sunday. There were plenty of questions asked that I've seen about Nick Pope being in goal and many Newcastle fans.
00:10:11
Speaker
I forgot to ask Ian if he agrees, would prefer to see Dubravka start so in the League Cup final on Sunday. um They're worried that he would get pressed by Arnaz Lott's Liverpool.
00:10:25
Speaker
It's a very scary press, to be fair, and um that could cost a goal. But, you know, kept a clean sheet, ah got a knock towards the end of that game as well.
00:10:36
Speaker
um So you can't give him too much criticism for last night's performance. ah Looking at West Ham, however, on the other side of the coin, they remain in 16th place, ah still 16 points from the drop, you know.
00:10:53
Speaker
Plenty of ah gap there, and I don't think that will be ah exploited. I would like to give a special mention to the West Ham goalkeeper, Alphonse Areola. If he wasn't in goal last night, he I think it could have been a lot more.
00:11:08
Speaker
ah He made some very important saves. I'd also like to give a mention to Bowen and Kudus. ah I think they were very harshly criticised by ah by FopMob, Opta, all of those who gave give out the stats at the end of the game. Bowen got a 6.1. I don't think that's fair.
00:11:28
Speaker
Looking at the last 10 minutes especially, he seemed to be at the heart of every attack, really trying to make things happen. Kouros, I thought, was doing similarly, but Newcastle defended very well towards the end of the game, as Ian alluded to.
00:11:43
Speaker
ah Lucas Paquetar is a player that I expected a lot more of this season. I looked at him and I thought he was absolutely world-class last year.
00:11:54
Speaker
um Has all of the technical ability, d dribbling, you name it. um But struggled, I think, ah getting overloaded in midfield by, you know, that brilliant Newcastle midfield in Joel Linton, Tonali and man of the match Bruno G.
00:12:13
Speaker
But Paquetard is one of those players where he'll put in a nice cross, do a nice dribble every now and then, but when it comes down to all of the dirty work, he doesn't seem to get too involved from whenever I've watched West Ham this season. ah Looking at Aaron Cresswell now, I thought he was terrific against Leicester City last time out in the Premier League.
00:12:39
Speaker
um Struggled today with that Newcastle attack. um He's one of these players that used to play on the left back role, but he's quite slow now.
00:12:50
Speaker
ah And he's given he's been given a role where he can drift around, but not necessarily do as much running. and and struggled a bit today, unfortunately.
00:13:02
Speaker
I think a player the player who struggled the most recently, who scored against Leicester City, Thomas Socek, he missed that sitter early on. And again, as I mentioned before, it's a game that could have gone either way.
00:13:15
Speaker
And if that Socek goal went in early, that really could have given West Ham the confidence boost ah that they needed for the rest of the match. and the two players who i think were the best were scales and when bersaka from a west ham perspective um when bersaka especially sort of playing beyond uh his limits at the west ham uh fullback wing back uh as well out of possession with five at the back in possession with uh sort of like two at the back really when chris well goes forward
00:13:50
Speaker
and But when Bissaka really causing issues for Tino Livramento couldn't really contain him for the majority of the match, went up to the byline several times, and that's the energy that you require from a fullback who's so pacey, and as we've seen this season, such a threat going forward.
00:14:10
Speaker
ah So disappointing one for West Ham fans, ah but it's definitely the motivation that Newcastle needed ah to go into Sunday's final, ah the second Carabao Cup final in two years. ah If you remember last time out, losing out very narrowly.
00:14:29
Speaker
Well, not very narrowly, but losing out to a Manchester United either two years or three years ago. I can't remember which one was the Brighton one. can't remember which one was more recently. Anyway, I should know more.
00:14:40
Speaker
And we will move on from that match last night, West Ham versus Newcastle. And we will focus more on the Champions League up next, something that Newcastle very well may be competing in next season.

PSG vs. Liverpool: A Battle for the Final

00:16:09
Speaker
So, looking at tonight's match, Liverpool versus PSG at Anfield, a stadium that has played such a strong part in European football for decades and decades now.
00:16:26
Speaker
um It's been... talked about a lot as Liverpool's advantage after scraping, and I mean by the skin of their teeth, scraping that 1-0 win ah in Paris last week.
00:16:42
Speaker
Harvey Elliott's last-minute winner basically hit 47 seconds after he came onto the pitch with his first touch after replacing Mo Salah, who had no luck or game. ah But something interesting that I'd like to mention PSG manager Luis Enrique in his press conference said whoever wins this tie goes into the final.
00:17:08
Speaker
So he's ruling out Real Madrid straight away. I don't think that's true at all. Real Madrid won the Champions League. last season um barely changed their squad since other than now having Kylian Mbappe who's finally found his shooting boots after an average start to his ah club in terms of his contributions up front but now scoring for fun it seems like ah They will have plenty of players available. Obviously, they struggled with the right back role all season with luke Lucas Vasquez. But, you know, talking about Real Madrid is for another time.
00:17:48
Speaker
ah Maybe next round if Arsenal, well, when Arsenal go through and if Real Madrid go through, which I think they will. But back to PSG. um They went to twelfth place Stad Ren on the weekend and won 4-1 with goals from Bradley Barcola, who didn't start last week, did start ah this week.

Usman Dembele's Impact for PSG

00:18:08
Speaker
Gonzalo Ramos and a stoppage time brace. for Usman Dembele. Now that's a player I want to focus on a lot because Usman Dembele was terrifying going forward.
00:18:20
Speaker
ah Robertson really didn't have an answer for his attacks and his dribbling was just unbelievable. And just remember this, Usman Dembele was deemed a failure at Barcelona after they bought him for 105 million euros plus a reported 40 million euros that meant he was once the second most expensive player of all time alongside Paul Pogba to Manchester United from Juventus only beaten by a the player that he was sort of replacing almost at Barcelona at the time Neymar who went to PSG that summer and we all saw how that worked out
00:18:58
Speaker
But at Barcelona, he had 24 goals and 34 assists in six years in 127 appearances. For PSG, he is only six goals away from his all-time Barcelona record in his second season with the club.
00:19:16
Speaker
Bearing in mind, two years at PSG, six years at Barcelona. He's got 20 goals and five assists in 23 Ligue 1 matches this season. He started only 16. Now, as a player, what can I say? He uses both feet, taking corners with both feet, and his dribbling has been phenomenal.
00:19:39
Speaker
He's got all the tricks, he's got the bursts of pace, and he's a very humble player as well off the pitch. You know, quite shy when it comes to the cameras, willing to give other players the credit more than himself.
00:19:50
Speaker
um The difference I'd say with this match, ah it's Anfield for one thing, but secondly, in the French League, They get a lot more time and space. ah I understand Liverpool gave PSG a lot of time on the ball, but in the box, crowded, ah not willing to let them through too many times. However, nine shots on target.
00:20:13
Speaker
All saved by Alisson. Alisson will be in goal again, obviously, this week. He was the difference in the first leg. ah But it all comes down to the French attack. The PSG attack, rather.
00:20:25
Speaker
um And Usman Dembele. he He just scares you as an opposition fan because you look at him and you look at his track record this season, as I mentioned, and, you know, that's a player that can provide and score.
00:20:42
Speaker
It's I mean, i'm I'm a Liverpool fan. I find it absolutely terrifying. ah It will probably be Robertson again at left back. Kostas Timikas did start on the weekend against Southampton. Had an awful game.
00:20:58
Speaker
Really awful. um Robertson came on in the second half. We all saw what happened. And it's sort of strange to think, you know, what could PSG do with their starting lineup? Because Kvitsch Kovac-Scalia is a player that can play anywhere across the front as well.
00:21:18
Speaker
He played at that sort of false nine ah He didn't start on the weekend against Stadren, by the way, came on only after 65 minutes. He was rested for this match, but he was a sort of drifting false number nine. He had a goal disallowed.
00:21:30
Speaker
He can also play with both feet.

Can PSG Overcome Liverpool?

00:21:33
Speaker
His one goal in the Champions League for PSG came when he was playing on the right, which he scored with his left foot in a 7-0 thrashing against Brest.
00:21:44
Speaker
Also for Georgia, he played in the Euros in a strike partnership with a joint top scorer. ah of that tournament, Georges Mik... How do I say that? Mikatadze.
00:21:58
Speaker
And he was doing the press run in the lead-up to this match. he He was asked about what ah he felt about last week ah losing in such cruel fashion. This is what he said. Yeah, we were a little bit disappointed because um I think the football that day was unfair because when you play like that against Liverpool and you didn't win, it's like oh very, very unfair and we were we were disappointed. But next day when we go to the dressing room, we just to watch each other, we smile and we just keep working hard to...
00:22:33
Speaker
ah Play the same and I think if like i said tomorrow if we try to play the same quality of the game, we can win we win the game. We show everybody that so we can win against every team now.
00:22:49
Speaker
Abrupt ending. Sounding a lot like Maurizio Pochettino as well in that press conference. First time hearing his voice. A little bit of a jump scare. um But he makes a good point. you know um It's just whether they can weather the storm of that Anfield atmosphere.
00:23:07
Speaker
ah We've seen the very best players completely crumble under the lights at Anfield. you know Earlier this season, Real Madrid went to Anfield. We all saw what happened there. Mbappe...
00:23:18
Speaker
Got completely closed down by Connor Bradley in probably my favourite moment of the season as a Liverpool fan. And also um missing a penalty in that game as well against Kovine Kelleher in goal, who will also probably be leaving Liverpool this summer.
00:23:34
Speaker
um he But it's a good point that he makes about just playing their game. And PSG completely played their game and definitely deserved to win.
00:23:45
Speaker
ah He said it felt unfair last week afterwards in the dressing room. But they have got to come to Anfield with a chip on their shoulder.
00:23:55
Speaker
ah Mentioned PSG fans will ah be at the away end. And I also think, weirdly, this may sound strange, but trust me, this is Anfield. If Liverpool play towards the Kop in the second half...
00:24:09
Speaker
ah that's probably game, set, match. So it's all about winning the coin toss as well as the match. ah So Kvichar Kvadač-Galia is definitely one to be worried about for Liverpool fans if he can find his feet and also get a goal that won't be disallowed.
00:24:28
Speaker
Usman Dembele as well. It's just whether they can put up with Virgil

Liverpool's Critical Week Ahead

00:24:33
Speaker
van Dijk. And liverpool for Liverpool, this is a huge week. Probably the biggest week of the season and because um they've got the League Cup. um Arsenal dropped two points against Manchester United.
00:24:45
Speaker
mean They've probably got the Premier League now. And they've also got a match against the French champions as well. But... What amazes me about Liverpool, ah more about Arna Slott, is the fact that Arna Slott is a manager who is doing this in his first season with a European giant, making Liverpool fans fully believe that they can beat anyone on any given day.
00:25:15
Speaker
And, you know, they proved that when they dug deep last week. And yeah I would also like to bring up Kvitschko Arackelia talking about Anfield as well, just before I talk more about Arda Slott. Everyone who played the here at Anfield and most of them, they know that what it means to play at Anfield.
00:25:35
Speaker
Of course, it will be tough game because there will be great atmosphere atmosphere for liverpool Liverpool. But I know that also our fans are coming here and also for us will be good support. We know that they are every time with us and they also will be ah for us ah from Paris. But most important is when you go to the field, just concentrate about football and just just to do your work so we try to do our best and it doesn't matter we play a field or in Paris our goal is to win tomorrow and we give everything for that anyway kavichi kavado scaly there anyway back to Arnaz Slott this is his ah first knockout tie as Liverpool manager ah in the Champions League and also his first Champions League knockout match at Anfield
00:26:29
Speaker
ah But the way he carries himself in press conferences is almost like he's been here before for years with other teams. And that's the sort of impression he gives off. ah This was him talking about ah Liverpool and Paris Saint-Germain's performance last week, ah just ahead of this game.
00:26:48
Speaker
I wasn't surprised at all about their performance, they've impressed me a lot. ah Before we played that game I watched many games of them, because we had a bit more time than normally, and I was really impressed by the intensity they played at, the team cohesion, the rotations in the midfield, it was a...
00:27:07
Speaker
They are such a complete team, such a well-managed team, and I think we've experienced this this last Wednesday. Some people said we played poor, I don't agree. but I think they played tremendously well.
00:27:20
Speaker
and I don't think we face this season a team that combined that much quality with that much intensity. But I do think we can do better. ah so I'm not saying we play poor or not good at all, but we are a better team than we are and we were last week. And that's something we have to prove tomorrow with the help of our fans.
00:27:41
Speaker
See, I disagree with him there. ah Liverpool, I don't think, played tremendously last week. They were on the back foot the entire game and they only got two shots away. Only one of them on target and it's a miracle that that went in.
00:27:53
Speaker
and The fact that we got that attack in the first place, that was a miracle in itself. ah But Donnarumma getting a hand to Harvey Elliott's shot... Liverpool did not deserve to win that game.
00:28:05
Speaker
ah Let's just set the record straight. They didn't. And there's no point in pretending that Liverpool played well because on the counter-attack, ah it was frustrating and it was hopeless.
00:28:16
Speaker
We couldn't get out of our own half. And... In the end, it was Darwin Nunez that made the difference coming on. ah He was the one that was a catalyst in the attack. He was getting in the faces of the ah PSG defenders, and he was also getting back to defend in his own box as well.
00:28:33
Speaker
And it was him that got the assist for the Harvey Elliott goal. And he also got another goal. I say another goal. He also got a goal on the weekend against Southampton.
00:28:45
Speaker
ah So what I'm interested to see from Arnaz Slott and the way Liverpool line up is who plays up front. Will it be Darwin Nunez coming in on good form? ah Obviously, Slotts is quite a stubborn manager. He doesn't like to rotate the team too much.
00:29:00
Speaker
And he also likes to have familiarity. um I'd say Darwin Nunez has played enough ah for it to be familiar. ah The other option, obviously, would be Diogo Jota playing up front. He's someone who really struggled against PSG, struggled against Southampton as well.
00:29:17
Speaker
And... Just hasn't been terrific recently. We know what he's capable of. We know that he can score ah for fun if he wants to, if he gets the opportunities. He's clinical and he probably has the best shots barring Mo Salah in the entire Liverpool team.
00:29:33
Speaker
So maybe it should be him to start. He also can be quite competitive. He likes to get in defenders faces in his own right. He knows all the tricks, um just needs to dive a bit less. That's the only thing I'd say.
00:29:47
Speaker
ah The other option actually would be playing Dominic Soboslai up front and having Curtis Jones playing sort of in between the lines and Soboslai coming out to defend as well when he can.

Mo Salah's Milestones and Challenges

00:29:59
Speaker
But I think you need as many players back as you can when it comes to PSG because you need your team to be compact. You need them to be able to defend, ah to be able to struggle and suffer throughout a game um because they will just keep on coming at you.
00:30:14
Speaker
But moving on to the other players in the Liverpool team. ah This week, Mo Salah went level with Sergio Aguero for the joint fifth most goals in Premier League history with 184. He's also now gone third in the most penalties scored, overtaking Harry Kane's 33 to move up to third with 34.

four Alan Shearer is on 56. He's also missed the most with 11. There you go, Newcastle fans. And Frank Lampard is on 43 as well. He's also now three away from equalising Andy Cole's all-time tally and three away from Andy Cole and Alan Shearer's all-time record for the most direct goal contributions in a Premier League season. Salah has 44, they have 47.

He's also now three assists away from the most assists in a Premier League season, held by Thierry Henry and KDB, Kevin De Bruyne. Salah has 17. They have 20. Now, Salah struggled against PSG last week, completely ah shut down for the entire match. He was ganged up on by PSG defenders and he just couldn't get any momentum

going. ah PSG were compact. They knew exactly how to deal with him.
00:31:29
Speaker
but they were just constantly in liverpool's side and in the rare occasions where liverpool did get forward salah would often find himself struggling against nuno mendez um so he needs a performance his two goals on the weekend both came from penalties i think for the rest of the match he was kept relatively quiet um And also, ah in the build-up to this match, he got into a bit of an altercation with Trent Alexander-Arnold in training. Now, what you could say, ah for me bringing this up, is is it immature just to bring up ah things in training that have probably been resolved?
00:32:08
Speaker
But also, on the flip side, is it mature to be getting into... uh scraps with your own teammates and training i understand competitiveness but slot has made it very clear that he doesn't want any emotions taking over um when it matters most he made a huge deal of it with darwin nunez when he went off uh the pitch with his shirt in his mouth against aston villa and was soaking in the changing room after the game uh so he's obviously someone that will be coming down on these players quite harshly um and not standing for any of this but you know for two players who are held in such high regard in the dressing room one of them being your vice captain the other one being a star scorer
00:32:57
Speaker
It's not a good look. And you know they work together so much. How many times have we seen Trent Alexander-Arnold play a ball forward to Salah and then that starts an attack? Or even assists Salah. It's just been an unbelievable amount of times.
00:33:13
Speaker
ah It's not a good look. And well, the less said about it, the better now, for as far as I'm ah concerned. ah The real question is, can Liverpool hold onto their lead? 1-0 against one of the biggest sides in Europe.
00:33:32
Speaker
And as I mentioned before, I think Anfield will have a huge amount to deal with do with it um because... it when When Liverpool attack the Kop, it's almost like the ball gets sucked into the

Kop goal.
00:33:43
Speaker
ah On counterattacks, tactics just go out of the window. Liverpool start pouring players forward. We saw it several times against Bayer Leverkusen earlier in the season. Bearing in mind, Bayer Leverkusen undefeated for all of last season up until the Europa League final.
00:34:00
Speaker
um Bundesliga winners and also Xavi Alonso, the first manager that Liverpool went after ah for replacing Klopp, just had his team torn apart.
00:34:11
Speaker
maybe Maybe Liverpool can get that against PSG. That would definitely do a lot of favours, especially if it is in the second half. and That second half is going to be absolutely huge, isn't it?
00:34:23
Speaker
um Another boost Liverpool have been handed is Cody Gakpo will be in the squad for this game. um back in training full uh back in full training and he has probably been the best left winger in the premier league this season i don't think he should start if he is fit enough just because it is such an awful game to be thrown into and also if we're losing i wouldn't just throw him on uh he hasn't played in a decent amount of time now
00:34:54
Speaker
ah But definitely, if we are winning towards the end, throw him on, get him back into competitive football ahead of the Sunday match against Newcastle. That would be good.
00:35:07
Speaker
when it comes down to who will win it's one that you really can't predict because psg are just so good and you look at their team so many great players you could say the same about liverpool and they have the lead going into going into a match at anfield so in that respect liverpool probably favorites but it's the champions league And for PSG, it may feel like all or nothing in this game.
00:35:36
Speaker
They have nothing to lose. They're well ahead in the league and they'll be well up for it. And it will be a terrific match. ah So that's all from me in today's podcast. um We'll be doing a review ah both on the Liverpool podcast and the daily English Premier League podcast.
