Iain hosts Joanne and Kevin to assess the implications to Newcastle's Champions League Qualification chances of the weekend's results and previews Monday night's match away to Leicester where, in our dreams, a seven-goal victory would put Newcastle into 4th! We 'd settle for 3 points and 5th behind Chelsea.

Introduction and Host Updates

00:00:11
Global Sports Podcast Network
Hello and welcome to the Daily Newcastle. My name's Ian Mackay. I'm hosting tonight and I'm hosting hosting the OG3. I've got with me Kevin and Joanne.
00:00:25
Global Sports Podcast Network
Joanne, first, how are you doing?
00:00:27
Jo
I'm great.
00:00:27
Global Sports Podcast Network
Have you got over your hangover?
00:00:27
Jo
It's been a while since we've had... Which one?
00:00:31
Global Sports Podcast Network
and
00:00:31
Jo
No.
00:00:32
Global Sports Podcast Network
Presuming you've had one for the last fortnight.
00:00:32
Jo
Yeah, just just a permanent, constant, drunken hangover.
00:00:34
Kev NUFC
I am.
00:00:36
Jo
Yeah. Look, it's been an amazing time, hasn't it? So, yeah. I've enjoyed being hungover, I'll be honest, because it's been amazing reasons why.
00:00:39
Global Sports Podcast Network
absolutely Absolutely wonderful.
00:00:44
Jo
bring it all on. Yeah.
00:00:47
Global Sports Podcast Network
and I'm also joined, as think I said, by Kevin, Kevin Esther, man, not on a permanent siesta because you're waiting a very special delivery, aren't you, Kev?
00:00:57
Kev NUFC
I'm.
00:00:57
Global Sports Podcast Network
We might have to just let watch you disappear off as you race to the hospital.
00:01:02
Kev NUFC
Yep, but it could it could actually happen, like on this episode, I could get a call and I've got to run off and go and have a second, well, I'm not having a second baby, people will be happy to know, but my partner's obviously having a second baby.
00:01:06
Jo
imagine i hope not
00:01:15
Kev NUFC
But yeah, I haven't slept much anyway, so it's not going to make any difference, I

Newcastle's Recent Form and Objectives

00:01:18
Kev NUFC
don't think. However, it is ridiculous that it's been three weeks since the Newcastle have won a trophy. What is happening?
00:01:24
Global Sports Podcast Network
I know.
00:01:25
Jo
such a long time yeah i'm bored now can we not win another one
00:01:25
Global Sports Podcast Network
I know. It's crazy.
00:01:27
Kev NUFC
Three weeks since we've won a trophy?
00:01:27
Global Sports Podcast Network
It is crazy.
00:01:30
Kev NUFC
Oh, yeah. We need another one, like, pretty sharpish.
00:01:31
Jo
you
00:01:34
Global Sports Podcast Network
Well, we've got, I think we've got the equivalent of a trophy, certainly something that Arsenal have counted as a trophy for the last five years that we are going for, which is, of course, Champions League qualification.
00:01:34
Jo
black and
00:01:47
Global Sports Podcast Network
And,
00:01:48
Global Sports Podcast Network
To that end, we've got the last game of the week. Tomorrow night, to Monday Night Football. i'm not sure I like Monday Night Football, but it's under the lights, even if it is at Leicester. it does seem to inspire us a little bit.
00:02:00
Global Sports Podcast Network
But we one of the yeah massive advantages of that is that we know what all the rest of the teams have done this round of Premier League games. By and large, it's been a super favourable weekend for us.
00:02:13
Global Sports Podcast Network
and
00:02:13
Jo
Mm-hmm.
00:02:14
Global Sports Podcast Network
Try to get these all in. Aston Villa... beat Nottingham Forest. Now, that makes Villa look really good in that game, by the way, and they've leapfrogged us. They have played two games more than us, and they're a point ahead.
00:02:27
Global Sports Podcast Network
But they're obviously still on this charge for Champions League qualification. The good news, I think, is that Nottingham Forest have lost have failed to pick any points up.
00:02:39
Global Sports Podcast Network
And in terms of them being nailed on to finish third, I don't think that's true at all anymore. and We are seven points behind them, but we have two games in hand on them.
00:02:47
Jo
Mm-hmm.
00:02:51
Global Sports Podcast Network
ah ah which Which, if we win those two games in hand, that's Leicester and Crystal Palace at home in a fortnight, we'll only be a point behind. So, I think right up to third is it's definitely on for us.
00:03:05
Global Sports Podcast Network
Now, I'm also mightily encouraged by the fact that Arsenal could only draw at Everton. So, they've dropped two points. They're not miles ahead of us in second, you know. If they keep struggling along and drawing.
00:03:18
Global Sports Podcast Network
And they've got a game against Liverpool to play, which could be a defeat. I don't know why we can't go chasing after Arsenal and try and get the runners-up spot here in this Champions League. That would need nine straight wins in these nine cup finals that we have.
00:03:31
Global Sports Podcast Network
All of which leads me to ask you guys.

Upcoming Newcastle vs Leicester Game

00:03:34
Global Sports Podcast Network
Leicester, on a run of I don't know how many consecutive defeats, I know that they haven't scored at home in their last seven home league games. which is a Premier League record, and if they fail to score tomorrow night in eight consecutive games, they will set a new record for anywhere at failing to score at home in consecutive games.
00:03:55
Global Sports Podcast Network
Does that mean, Joanne, that we are going to really, really struggle in this game in typical Newcastle style and probably lose 1-0, just like those games at Derby and Wigan and a thousand other places when we were expecting to win?
00:04:03
Kev NUFC
Thank
00:04:09
Global Sports Podcast Network
What do you think?
00:04:11
Jo
I'm going to say no because I'm trying to be on an ultra positive trip, but I'm absolutely with you. Come on, us Geordies will always have that thing in the back of our head. I think even if we start winning Premier Leagues, even Champion Leagues, everything, I think we'll always have that in the back of our brain that, oh, is this going to be the game that we're going to screw up? Oh, is this going to be the game that we're going to be a typical Newcastle?
00:04:31
Jo
I want to now think of it as Newcastle of old, maybe, and no, we're not going to screw up and we are going to take Leicester to the sword. And unfortunately for Leicester, they're now going to set a new horrible record. which I think is insane, eight games in a row.
00:04:44
Jo
I mean, how crap must that be for their fans, their season ticket holders, to not only watch them lose or whatever, is to not see them score, man, for that many games in a row.
00:04:54
Jo
It must be horrific. I mean, I'm not going to feel too sorry for them, but at the same time, I don't hate Leicester, so I've got a bit of a soft spot for them, but nah, I'm staying positive.
00:05:01
Global Sports Podcast Network
I've just just had a little bit of an OCD type maths attack.
00:05:02
Jo
They're not beating us. so
00:05:06
Jo
Oh.
00:05:10
Global Sports Podcast Network
Eight games, eight 90s, 720 minutes. I think that is 12 hours straight at home without scoring.
00:05:18
Jo
That's painful.
00:05:19
Global Sports Podcast Network
God, it could be worse though. They could be Sunderland. Kevin,
00:05:25
Jo
It could always be worse.
00:05:25
Global Sports Podcast Network
what do you think what do you think of of of my very bleak suggestion that we might go and struggle at Leicester tomorrow night.
00:05:34
Kev NUFC
Well, I mean, i I don't want to add to it because I think we'll be quite comfortable personally. However, have you seen our record on a Monday night away from home? Is anyone aware of that?
00:05:43
Jo
Oh no, Kev, don't, no.
00:05:44
Kev NUFC
I haven't to you about this.
00:05:44
Global Sports Podcast Network
Tell us about it.
00:05:45
Kev NUFC
Okay.
00:05:45
Global Sports Podcast Network
you have you're you're You're a complimentary stats man for tonight then.
00:05:49
Kev NUFC
Yeah, when Michael's not here, I get subbed on.
00:05:50
Global Sports Podcast Network
Stepping in for Michael.
00:05:50
Jo
you are
00:05:52
Kev NUFC
I'm i'm a Joel Willock to air Michael Jolinton. So the last 20 Newcastle United Premier League away matches which have been moved to Monday nights, we've won one.
00:06:01
Jo
you know
00:06:02
Kev NUFC
We've won one away from home.
00:06:04
Global Sports Podcast Network
I know.
00:06:04
Kev NUFC
and Yeah, we've only won one. I've got a whole list. I'm not going to go through them. But this goes all the way back to March 2012 when we lost 2-1 at Arsenal. It got moved to a Monday night for Sky Sports. and We've won one.
00:06:18
Kev NUFC
We've drawn three. And we've lost 16. We've scored 10 goals and conceded 37. So we are terrible.
00:06:26
Global Sports Podcast Network
Oh my word.
00:06:27
Jo
Can ask a question, Kev?
00:06:28
Kev NUFC
We are terrible away on a Monday night when moved, but I still think we'll be okay. It's a completely different time. doesn't mean anything, but it is quite interesting.
00:06:35
Jo
You know, if you've got the stats in front of you now, what are the m Eddie Howe era stats part of it?
00:06:37
Kev NUFC
Yes.
00:06:39
Jo
Because I would like to forget about anything before that.
00:06:41
Kev NUFC
oh twenty So, 2020, the last one which got moved was 27th October 24, we had Chelsea. We lost 2-1. called Palmer typical we lost actually one before that was Chelsea Feb 21 was he here then maybe not there's only been one on Eddie Hall yeah and the one before that was Arsenal 3-0 but that wasn't Eddie and it was 0-0 to Brighton 0-0 to Brighton lost 2-0 to Villa lost 2-0 to Arsenal drew with Wolves 1-1 the only one we ever won was beating Burnley 2-1 in November 2018 and then lost to Everton lost to Burnley lost to West Ham lost to Liverpool lost to Arsenal lost to Stoke
00:06:51
Jo
That's Chelsea, though.
00:06:58
Global Sports Podcast Network
that's three two
00:06:58
Jo
So basically we're happy it's not Chelsea, right?
00:07:03
Jo
Oh, come on. So Arsenal and two Chelsea's like... come on.
00:07:19
Kev NUFC
Yeah, I'm going to stop.
00:07:20
Global Sports Podcast Network
stop stop
00:07:20
Jo
None of that.
00:07:21
Kev NUFC
I'm going to stop.
00:07:21
Jo
Nah, I don't like it.
00:07:22
Kev NUFC
and
00:07:22
Jo
It's too long ago, I don't care.
00:07:22
Kev NUFC
However, I do think, Ian, going back to your question, I just wanted to get in there because I find that absolutely mind-blowing that we've only won one in the last 20 which have been moved on a Monday night away from home. and I still don't think it'll make a difference. Leicester are god-awful, aren't we? They're terrible this season. and And I don't really think it's anything to do with Van Nistelrooy or Cooper, the manager beforehand.
00:07:43
Kev NUFC
They just haven't got a Premier League team. They're championship team.
00:07:46
Jo
Yeah.
00:07:46
Kev NUFC
Premier League teams week in, week out. It's just, we're massive favorites. I think we should win comfortably.
00:07:53
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, well, I do remember because so we we were... We had been struggling, but it started a little unbeaten run, had we not, before Christmas when Leicester were coming to town.
00:08:05
Global Sports Podcast Network
And we had exactly the same fears that, oh no, this is just the sort of game where we'll struggle and we'll end up having goalless draw or something.
00:08:11
Kev NUFC
Yeah.
00:08:13
Global Sports Podcast Network
We had a goalless draw with Leicester at home, second to last game of the season when we qualified for the Champions League. That was the point that made us qualify officially. m But if you remember that game, we were all over there and we won 4-0 and it was comfortable, wasn't it?
00:08:28
Kev NUFC
Mm-hmm.
00:08:28
Global Sports Podcast Network
So i would side with what you're saying as well, Kevin. I think we'll be okay. We should have too much for them, really.
00:08:35
Jo
We'll be fine.
00:08:36
Global Sports Podcast Network
And the interesting thing is, after Chelsea only drew and Manchester City only drew, we could not only leapfrog back above Aston Villa with a win, but leapfrog above Manchester City.
00:08:50
Global Sports Podcast Network
And if we can put seven past Leicester, we'd leapfrog back above Chelsea to go into fourth place. I'm going to be happy if we end up in fifth place tomorrow and night, I think. But we'll have to see.
00:09:03
Global Sports Podcast Network
We'll get on later on.
00:09:03
Kev NUFC
Didn't we smash Leicester and we smashed that to home a long time ago?
00:09:04
Global Sports Podcast Network
That was
00:09:07
Kev NUFC
Like 7-1.
00:09:07
Global Sports Podcast Network
this
00:09:09
Kev NUFC
Nah, it wouldn't be good enough.
00:09:10
Jo
That was the beginning of my soft spot for them because it was just a mint day because their fans were brilliant.
00:09:11
Global Sports Podcast Network
but was this
00:09:14
Jo
It's not that we actually won 7-1, ironically, but we had just a great banter with the fans because the fans were obviously laughing at the fact that, bless them, they were absolutely getting whipped.
00:09:17
Kev NUFC
Yeah, yeah.
00:09:23
Jo
And we even cheered a bit for them when they scored because it was more of a pity cheer. But they loved that.
00:09:26
Kev NUFC
Hmm.
00:09:27
Jo
And it was honestly, it was just a great banter because some fans, as we've talked about a million times, You can have great banter with. Some fans can't because they're just rotten. But they, on that day, were just they were just brilliant. they were And i just I've had a soft spot for them ever since.
00:09:40
Jo
Because I do appreciate just a bit good big banter, you know what i mean? People who can actually have a laugh without getting without getting vicious, you know what I mean
00:09:44
Global Sports Podcast Network
Well,
00:09:46
Kev NUFC
I thought we were on the wrong end of it on Monday night.
00:09:47
Global Sports Podcast Network
i think I think we all appreciate a little bit of banter.
00:09:50
Jo
Let's not talk about that.
00:09:52
Global Sports Podcast Network
We all appreciate a little bit of banter, which is why we always try and have crossover podcasts with all of the teams that we're playing. And unfortunately, Leicester's season is he so poor that we couldn't organise a crossover podcast with the Leicester boys because they've all given up.
00:10:09
Kev NUFC
No.
00:10:09
Global Sports Podcast Network
There's nobody running a Leicester podcast at the moment, which is sad. I'd I don't know if that means they'll be
00:10:15
Kev NUFC
I

Newcastle's Strategy and Lineup Considerations

00:10:15
Global Sports Podcast Network
around next year because there'll be a championship side, won't there?
00:10:16
Kev NUFC
like Lefter.
00:10:18
Jo
Yeah.
00:10:18
Global Sports Podcast Network
Anyway, on that sad note, let's just pause and move on to something more uplifting. Following a word from Cristiano Ronaldo's boys.
00:11:00
Jo
It
00:11:07
Global Sports Podcast Network
Now, I'm never sure because there's a funny gap in the middle of that advert. When I hear it, it's not as long as I think it is. So I think that's not the gap. And at the end, I'm waiting for him to come back. He's not going to, is he?
00:11:18
Global Sports Podcast Network
Ken, record it again, mate, without the gaps. know what's going on.
00:11:22
Jo
but
00:11:24
Global Sports Podcast Network
Let's focus on to the actual game tomorrow night. and
00:11:27
Kev NUFC
I made a good joke, really.
00:11:28
Global Sports Podcast Network
You ought to discuss...
00:11:29
Kev NUFC
I was on mute. I said, yeah it's ruined it now.
00:11:32
Jo
oh
00:11:33
Kev NUFC
But I did say, you're not used to hearing it. It's not as long as you think it is, Ian. But then I realised my microphone was muted.
00:11:39
Jo
Too late.
00:11:39
Kev NUFC
So if you are watching on YouTube, I've ruined it for everybody.
00:11:43
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yes, i I don't know what's going on now, but what I said was that we're going to get straight into the
00:11:46
Jo
We'll not clip that bit.
00:11:50
Global Sports Podcast Network
straight into the guts of this actual game tomorrow night. And we ought to look, I think, is it controversial or not? The team. There are one or two issues on the Newcastle team, of who we think will play.
00:12:03
Global Sports Podcast Network
Gordon's not suspended any anymore, but got really battered when he played for England. So I think there's a decision there whether he's fit enough to come back in. My own gut feel is on the bench probably.
00:12:15
Global Sports Podcast Network
And Barnes has certainly done enough to keep his place.
00:12:20
Jo
Yeah. Uh-uh.
00:12:21
Global Sports Podcast Network
i'm I'm delighted with the return to form, if I can call it that, of Kieran Trippier on the right. And the absolutely wonderful Lewis Hall impersonation that Tito Livermento is giving on the left.
00:12:34
Jo
yeah
00:12:34
Global Sports Podcast Network
It's just like he's not been away, which is fabulous.
00:12:39
Global Sports Podcast Network
I don't see loads of changes. Kevin, I'll come to you first. Can you see there being any change in the starting lineup for the boys?
00:12:48
Kev NUFC
If I had to put money on it, I'd say no. I think it would be, if again, depending on fitness, everyone's fit. But don't know Eddie's been a bit clever. I don't know if he's looking at Leicester as an opportunity to play some players like Wilson.
00:12:59
Kev NUFC
Therefore, he's saying that Isaac has a little bit of a knock.
00:12:59
Jo
Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm.
00:13:01
Kev NUFC
So if he's not playing, that's why. But we do have a double game week after this say match on Monday as well. We play a Sunday and Wednesday again, I think. So we've got two games where if you can rest the likes of Isaac and the likes of you know the the other players who are like Gordon again, give him an extra rest and keep Barnes in.
00:13:09
Global Sports Podcast Network
I have
00:13:20
Kev NUFC
i think now is a good time to do it. And i think you spoke about that in previous pods, Ian, where it was good up but used to give players like Miley Games
00:13:24
Global Sports Podcast Network
f
00:13:26
Kev NUFC
and So it wouldn't surprise me if he's doing a little bit of that. Isaac probably could play, but he might just opt to start Wilson. And in case it backfires, he's got, very well, Isaac had a knock and I'm not going to risk players when they have a knock, when media come for him, if something goes wrong.
00:13:39
Jo
Yeah.
00:13:41
Kev NUFC
and That might not be the case at all.
00:13:41
Global Sports Podcast Network
They
00:13:42
Kev NUFC
That's just in the back of my mind because our next game week is a double game week. It's a very quick turnaround. We've got six days. We play... on the Sunday and then we play on the Wednesday after that and I think we're both home games I think he'll want the strongest team possible so I think he might rest players for that that's the only thing in the back of my mind but like I said at the start we answer it if I had to put money on it i would say it's a very similar starting line up to our last couple of games
00:13:54
Global Sports Podcast Network
they know
00:13:54
Jo
Yeah.
00:14:01
Jo
Mm-hmm.
00:14:08
Global Sports Podcast Network
There are one or two, as you say, injury issues. Isaac sounded like it wasn't really an issue, but you could use that as an next excuse. so
00:14:17
Kev NUFC
yeah
00:14:17
Global Sports Podcast Network
Joe Linton limped off against Brentford. Have you heard the latest on Joey? Would you rest Joey, Joanne?
00:14:26
Jo
i I don't think it's a game that we should be sad to see any rotation on because Kev's kind of nailed it there in the sense of, yeah, we wouldn't probably put any money on it because you know what Eddie's like sometimes. He does like to still put out his stronger squad. But again, just to repeat what Kev said, we've also got two games in the space of like a few days coming up after that.
00:14:44
Global Sports Podcast Network
Thank you.
00:14:45
Jo
So personally, I would like to maybe rest a couple of players, but I'm not Eddie, so I'm not, you know, in any shape or form in charge there, obviously. But If there's anything wrong with Big Joe, yes, of course, rest him.
00:14:57
Jo
If there's anything wrong with Izak, yes, I'd more than be... I'm sorry, I can't speak. I'm more than happy to see Wilson come in, obviously. And Gordon, personally, I would absolutely him on the bench.
00:15:08
Jo
Barnes is in fine form. I know Gordon's back from suspension, but it doesn't mean that he's got to have a God-given right and just come straight back in, especially if he has got that massive bruising on the thigh that Eddie was kind of talking about. So...
00:15:21
Jo
I wouldn't mind to see some rotation, but yeah, again, even as a betting girl, I wouldn't put that much money on him rotating.
00:15:27
Kev NUFC
I wouldn't mind if...
00:15:27
Jo
if if Anything at all, it sometimes really.
00:15:28
Global Sports Podcast Network
oh
00:15:30
Kev NUFC
I wouldn't mind if Golden was...
00:15:30
Global Sports Podcast Network
What we saw it in the Cup was going to say what we saw in the Cup matches when he wanted to rest players against Bromley against Birmingham the FA Cup matches I'm talking about that
00:15:32
Kev NUFC
Sorry, go on, Ian.
00:15:45
Global Sports Podcast Network
is that Tonali and Bruno got a half each in one of those games.
00:15:51
Jo
Yeah.
00:15:52
Global Sports Podcast Network
And Joe Linton and Bruno, I think, got a half each against Bromley. And that's a rest, isn't it? That is a rest if you know you're only doing 45 minutes.
00:16:02
Jo
yeah
00:16:03
Global Sports Podcast Network
So we could see something like that. We might see either Longstaff or Miley play the whole game and sweep the other three rotating around like that.
00:16:08
Kev NUFC
Thank you.
00:16:14
Global Sports Podcast Network
But yeah, I'm a big advocate of it because I think he can go to the well too often. And let's be honest, firstly, Manchester United on Sunday. Secondly, Crystal Palace just three days after that, both games that we have to win.
00:16:29
Global Sports Podcast Network
And if this Premier League season teaches us anything, there will be much stronger opposition than Leicester
00:16:29
Jo
Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm.

Impact of Other Teams and Youth Opportunities

00:16:38
Global Sports Podcast Network
will.
00:16:38
Global Sports Podcast Network
I just watched Manchester United... hold Manchester City, 0-0. Boring game, but they don't look anywhere near as awful as they did at the start of January when we won 2-0 at Old Trafford.
00:16:51
Global Sports Podcast Network
So I think there's some, yeah, we've got some serious, serious matches coming up and we've got to keep this winning run going. and So it's important not to rotate so much that we end up doing something silly tomorrow night. could be a good game to test how close to Premier League ready Will Azula has got.
00:17:10
Global Sports Podcast Network
And I don't mean five minutes at the end. I mean, let's see him have a run at those. That's the defence you want him running at. but we go i might I might give Murphs a rest and bring Asulu on down the right wing because he looked super quick, super strong in that Birmingham game.
00:17:29
Global Sports Podcast Network
I don't know. Maybe it's just because it's Leicester. And and I get this is coming across that I'm totally underestimating them. And the last time I did that... You might remember our crossover with the West Ham boys when I predicted we'd beat them 4-0.
00:17:42
Global Sports Podcast Network
We actually lost two now at home, which, oh God, I was so embarrassed.
00:17:44
Kev NUFC
Mm-hmm.
00:17:47
Global Sports Podcast Network
I'm still embarrassed about that. and Oh, dear me. Anyway, look, I want to talk about Danger Men, etc. on their side. i don't i just read briefly that Van Nistelrooy is trying to say that they've got to stick together and they've got to try and pick up to get ready for next season.
00:18:07
Global Sports Podcast Network
He already thinks the gap is is they great and it'll be very hard for them to get out of it.
00:18:15
Kev NUFC
Thank you.
00:18:15
Global Sports Podcast Network
they're They're eight points away from... i if they lose the neck If they lose their next eight points, they they are relegated. They've got us, they've got Liverpool, they've got somebody else after us who's just as hard for them.
00:18:25
Jo
Yeah.
00:18:31
Global Sports Podcast Network
So I think they're down for sure. And that must be hard for them.
00:18:33
Jo
Well, they're 15 points behind, aren't they?
00:18:35
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, yeah.
00:18:35
Jo
I mean, that's... So you're counting on Wolves losing, for sure, the next five games. Simple as that. Five of, sorry, the last seven.
00:18:44
Kev NUFC
on DIP switch.
00:18:44
Jo
There's only seven games, right?
00:18:44
Kev NUFC
10.
00:18:45
Jo
I am working this out right, yeah?
00:18:46
Kev NUFC
and
00:18:47
Jo
Well, yeah, sorry, yeah. So that's another thing, yeah, Ipswich. But I've said it for quite a few games now. I can't see it being any of another three teams going down, unfortunately. Southampton, obviously doomed.
00:18:56
Global Sports Podcast Network
Well, not...
00:18:57
Jo
We've we've heard that today. But I literally can't see Ipswich or Leicester doing anything. It just looks too much for... For both teams.
00:19:03
Global Sports Podcast Network
so Certainly not if they don't ever score at home ever again.
00:19:07
Global Sports Podcast Network
Then they're not going to do very much, are they?
00:19:07
Jo
Well, that's that.
00:19:08
Jo
I mean, Ipswich have scored, but...
00:19:11
Kev NUFC
I was going to add, if Gordon is fit, I still wouldn't mind seeing Barnes.
00:19:11
Jo
True, true.
00:19:15
Kev NUFC
anyway, again, I think on a previous part, I've said that Barnes hasn't blown us away yet, but it's against his old club.
00:19:16
Jo
Yeah. Yeah.
00:19:22
Kev NUFC
He's kind of got a run and it's kind of his, I would probably tell him, I wouldn't tell him, but in my head, it would be as a gaffer. This is your last chance. Surely you can score against your old team. That curse can come into it.
00:19:33
Kev NUFC
And you can score against one of the worst defences in the Prem. If you don't do that, then I'll bring Gordon Streele back in. So I wouldn't mind seeing Barnes start anywhere, regardless of Gordon's fitness. But it would be probably in my head, probably not Eddie's because he's such a nicer bloke than me, but it would be almost like, well, surely you've got to set a a light against your old team.
00:19:51
Global Sports Podcast Network
Show us what you can do.
00:19:52
Kev NUFC
Yeah, surely.
00:19:54
Jo
yeah
00:19:55
Global Sports Podcast Network
Would you try him down in the middle if you had to rest Isaac? I think he could do a great job down there.
00:19:59
Kev NUFC
Wilson. Great, great game for Wilson to get back amongst the goals. We don't know if it's his last season. It might be. I'd like to see him at least get one more goal.
00:20:05
Jo
I'd prefer Wilson to come in here yeah yeah
00:20:07
Kev NUFC
But yeah, Wilson's got to be down the middle. I do like the idea of a Sula right wing, if you are going to rest Murph. I love the idea of him playing against Leicester. But again, you've got to be so careful. Like, imagine we're seeing all this and Leicester rock up and are desperate and not have that record of eight games without scoring and we're banged two or three in early on and you've got a Sula, Willick, Miley on the pitch and you're thinking, oh no, we need to make three subs right now.
00:20:31
Kev NUFC
That would be embarrassing. So we'll see.
00:20:33
Jo
Mm-hmm.
00:20:33
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, that that would also have to be a match report written by Walt Disney, I think, Kev. So don't worry about that.
00:20:39
Jo
christmas
00:20:39
Kev NUFC
it's good it's good opportunity to eat It's a good opportunity for, i think, Willick's in really good form. I think he did excellent when he came on against Brighton. I thought he did very well in the final when he came on. think it's a good opportunity to get Willick a start, whether that's, you know, you might put Barnes on the right and Willick on the left.
00:20:49
Global Sports Podcast Network
like did.
00:20:54
Kev NUFC
We kind of ended that way against Brighton. And I also think it's a great opportunity for Miley. I think Miley was brilliant against Birmingham and he was probably a one of the rare shining stars against Bromley. So,
00:21:06
Kev NUFC
Why not bring Miley in and and give him a shout and arrest one of the big boys?
00:21:07
Global Sports Podcast Network
i think they should get I think they should have a go. I think they should have a go. Anyway, let's pause there. Let's ask Joanne to give us our lovely Zencaster advert.

Advertisements and Upcoming Match Predictions

00:21:18
Global Sports Podcast Network
The new one, not the old school one. We're saving that for special occasions.
00:21:22
Global Sports Podcast Network
And we'll get into who we're scared of when we come back.
00:21:26
Jo
umve got Well, I've got a copy of one, so let's hope it's the correct one. Here at the Global Sports Podcast Network, we've spent a lot of time selecting our delivery platform. Zencastr came out the clear winner.
00:21:36
Jo
With 4K video recording from your phone with an AI editing that automatically removes all those ums and ahs, it's super easy to start podcast, it sounds great, and it's delivered efficiently. If you're ready to tell your story, check out the link in the show description to learn more about Zencastr.
00:21:51
Jo
Is that right?
00:21:51
Global Sports Podcast Network
Lovely. Thank you very much indeed, Joanne.
00:21:53
Jo
Is that the correct one?
00:21:54
Global Sports Podcast Network
That was, in fact, the current Zencastr advert, so well done.
00:21:57
Kev NUFC
Yeah.
00:21:57
Jo
That's wonderful news. Thanks. i was a bit worried.
00:21:59
Global Sports Podcast Network
come Contractual obligation satisfied. Brilliant. Now, it seems odd to ask you, Pear, who the danger men for Leicester are when they haven't scored at home for seven games.
00:22:12
Global Sports Podcast Network
But, Joanne, who are the danger men for Leicester?
00:22:14
Jo
Okay. What's the danger, man?
00:22:19
Jo
Oh, well, come on. We touched on this before we even came online, didn't we? I don't know whether I'm just being overly cocky or whether I'm just being completely honest, but I'm genuinely not really scared of anyone in their team. And that sounds, that doesn't really sound bizarre. They suck right now, right?
00:22:36
Jo
and I'm not scared of anyone. I'm not. Like, I could make someone up, but I'm not going to lie to you. I'm genuinely...
00:22:44
Kev NUFC
I don't think can just make up a player out of thin air.
00:22:44
Jo
I've just pulled up the team just to try and inspire. Right, I'm i'm trying to inspire myself. I've pulled up the less the line-up again in the last match, right? And I'm looking and I'm thinking, well...
00:22:55
Kev NUFC
Well, at St James' Park, I think, obviously, Leicester's morale is so low at the minute, a lot of the players aren't going to shine.
00:22:55
Jo
Nope.
00:22:56
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yes,
00:23:01
Jo
Yeah.
00:23:01
Kev NUFC
But at St James', I think I called him call them out before the game. And El Canoose had a really good game at St James'.
00:23:08
Global Sports Podcast Network
yes it's it.
00:23:09
Kev NUFC
He's a very, very good player.
00:23:09
Jo
Mm-hmm.
00:23:11
Kev NUFC
And there's a couple others that, again, I think in a different team, these players would look half decent. Maybe not at a Newcastle, but it like a Wolves or someone just slightly better than Leicester and a little bit better morale.
00:23:18
Jo
Mm-hmm. yeah
00:23:22
Kev NUFC
I think Ndidi is a very good player. And he's, again, he's one of them where he's a battler and he's strong, but he's not going to create much. But I guess you all need a player like that. I guess Leicester's problem is we almost have too many of them.
00:23:35
Kev NUFC
and think think ah jordan I Jordan Ayew's back from injury.
00:23:36
Global Sports Podcast Network
and
00:23:38
Kev NUFC
Again, not a huge player. I'm not particularly worried about him. The other one I'm worried about alongside Canoos is Buonanotti. I think he's still on loan, and but he's a very good player. Argentinian, 19 years old.
00:23:50
Kev NUFC
So, yeah, it would be Buonanotti if he starts, which he didn't in my last game. But El Canoos is a watcher.
00:23:54
Jo
No, he didn't, did he?
00:23:55
Kev NUFC
I mean, come on, who better to break a nightmare Leicester goal-scoring record than Jamie Vardy?
00:24:01
Jo
Jamie Vaughty. I know.
00:24:01
Kev NUFC
So just keep an eye on him.
00:24:02
Jo
He's going to be the predictable one, isn't he?
00:24:03
Kev NUFC
He's not what he was. He's not what he used to be. He has had to adapt his game.
00:24:06
Jo
He's been on rail for them, though.
00:24:08
Kev NUFC
However, we should be able to look after a 39-year-old Jamie Vardy. But again, you've still got to watch him.
00:24:13
Jo
You're up, someone.
00:24:14
Global Sports Podcast Network
I was going to mention Jamie Vardy, but but I was reluctant to because Jamie Vardy in the last game was made captain to try and inspire him to do something.
00:24:25
Global Sports Podcast Network
And he was so destructive and so creative, they took him off at halftime and brought Oliver Skip on instead. Another defensive midfield player.
00:24:34
Kev NUFC
Oh, no.
00:24:35
Jo
Okay.
00:24:36
Global Sports Podcast Network
So, yeah, I don't know if Rude Nostelroy, Rude Van Nistelroy even, rude van deleroy even
00:24:43
Kev NUFC
Legend. Love on the story.
00:24:44
Global Sports Podcast Network
is running running a little bit scared. I mean, I don't know if he's used to winning in English football at all. It's just like every week, it's a loss.
00:24:55
Kev NUFC
Don't look at my new.
00:24:55
Global Sports Podcast Network
And that must muck with your head so much.
00:25:00
Kev NUFC
I still think he's a good manager.
00:25:00
Global Sports Podcast Network
Don't you think?
00:25:01
Kev NUFC
I know sound stupid, but he wouldn't mind you when he came in. It was a bit different. And I think he was very good at PSV. I know it's the Dutch League and I've spoken loads of times about how much the Dutch League has scarred me.
00:25:11
Kev NUFC
So I'm not holding that too much.
00:25:12
Global Sports Podcast Network
a
00:25:13
Kev NUFC
I just, I think it's my, to be honest, I take everything back. It's my personal love for Ruud van der Strijd. I love him. So I hope he's a good manager, but I don't think he should be judged on the time at Leicester. and And what I will say about another two Leicester players, we've got two regens of ex-Newcastle players.
00:25:28
Kev NUFC
We've got a regen Coluccini. and I'm going to use regen, not the actual thing. We'll chant towards him if he makes a foul. You're just a something Colachini in Wout Faz.
00:25:38
Kev NUFC
And we've got middle partner. We've got Victor Christensen, who looks exactly like Warren Martin. it but
00:25:44
Global Sports Podcast Network
Middle part and Barton.
00:25:46
Kev NUFC
yeah he' He's got a middle partner, hasn't So that'll be a nice little throwback if we can't bat him and be reminded of them to, well, one's a legend, one was average. But yeah, we'll go with it.
00:25:56
Global Sports Podcast Network
Vout Fass has got he's got an error in him though, hasn't he?
00:25:59
Kev NUFC
Yeah, he's shocking.
00:25:59
Global Sports Podcast Network
I mean, come on.
00:26:00
Kev NUFC
He's knowing he was good as Colo.
00:26:01
Global Sports Podcast Network
Let's be honest. if your If your standard of centre-half is Vout Fass, you could play eight at the back and you'd still have...
00:26:07
Kev NUFC
Connor Cody's the other.
00:26:08
Global Sports Podcast Network
peace
00:26:08
Kev NUFC
And then Luke Thomas plays.
00:26:10
Kev NUFC
Luke Thomas, who's actually a good full-back, I think. But the players are centre-half. And I'm just like, God, what is happening at Leicester right now to go from where they were with an f FA Cup how many years ago? Three years ago? Four years ago?
00:26:23
Jo
Yeah.
00:26:23
Kev NUFC
To then...
00:26:24
Global Sports Podcast Network
Well, Premier League less than 10 years ago.
00:26:25
Kev NUFC
There we are now.
00:26:26
Global Sports Podcast Network
2016 there, Premier League, wasn't it?
00:26:27
Kev NUFC
Yeah, exactly.
00:26:29
Jo
Crazy, isn't it?
00:26:29
Kev NUFC
Same amount of Premier Leagues as Liverpool.
00:26:30
Jo
That's absolutely
00:26:32
Global Sports Podcast Network
Anyway, let us pause there because we're really struggling to find somebody to be to be honestly worried about. so It's not like doing the Carabao Cup final preview anyway.
00:26:43
Kev NUFC
Yeah.
00:26:44
Global Sports Podcast Network
And let's do some predictions. Let me come to Joanne first.
00:26:49
Jo
oh
00:26:50
Global Sports Podcast Network
What score, Joanne?
00:26:50
Jo
just Well, just while you guys were chatting, I mean, I've already decided what my prediction is, by the because I gave it the other day. But what's even more interesting about them not scoring for seven home games in a row, they've also not scored for a few away games as well. So how long is it even since they've scored a goal? Because I'm now wondering... Eh? Because the last six matches alone, home or away, they haven't scored a goal. So obviously they've lost every single one.
00:27:12
Jo
Well, not obviously, but they have. I predicted 3-0 the other day, and I'm sticking with 3-0 because... that that's insane man looking at that isn't it so this could go a eight home games but like you're talking about more than eight games in a row now where they haven't even scored a goal that's just nuts so I could they're not scoring I've got to stay they're not scoring three nil I'm sticking with three nil I'll not put a bet on though I'll curse us
00:27:37
Kev NUFC
and
00:27:39
Global Sports Podcast Network
Kevin?
00:27:41
Kev NUFC
Well, I'm of a belief.
00:27:41
Global Sports Podcast Network
Kevin?
00:27:43
Kev NUFC
I haven't been following Newcastle as long as used to. But whenever Aaron Lennon scored two goals a season, it was against Newcastle. And whenever a team hadn't scored for so long, it was always against Newcastle.
00:27:53
Jo
It was against us.
00:27:54
Kev NUFC
I remember Mernar Figueroa scoring his first ever career goal at 27 for Wigan against us. So it always happens against Newcastle United.
00:28:00
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, a winner.
00:28:03
Kev NUFC
So I think Leicester might score, but I still think we're going to win.
00:28:03
Jo
Yeah.
00:28:06
Kev NUFC
I'm going to go with a nice 3-1. I'm going to nick Ians. Actually, no, I'm not going to nick Ians.
00:28:08
Jo
oh
00:28:10
Kev NUFC
That's disrespectful.
00:28:10
Jo
Kev!
00:28:11
Kev NUFC
I'm going to go for a 4-1.
00:28:12
Jo
That's so bad.
00:28:13
Kev NUFC
I'm not going to disrespect Madon.
00:28:14
Jo
That's so bad.
00:28:14
Kev NUFC
I've just realised I was about to do. I'm not disrespecting Madon.
00:28:17
Global Sports Podcast Network
You can if you want.
00:28:17
Jo
yeah
00:28:18
Kev NUFC
I'm going 4-1.
00:28:18
Global Sports Podcast Network
You can if you want, because I'm not going
00:28:19
Jo
Kev, your face as he said it was brilliant.
00:28:20
Kev NUFC
Oh, if you're not going 3-1, I'll go 3-1.
00:28:22
Jo
Oh, you know what?
00:28:23
Kev NUFC
I've been given permission from Madon. I'm going going free one three one
00:28:27
Jo
Oh, Kev. I mean, Ian, what you're doing, I'm intrigued.
00:28:27
Global Sports Podcast Network
that's and That's not to say... Well, that's not to say that I wouldn't... I won't be backing it, because I do. That's the nervous tick that I have.
00:28:35
Jo
Obviously.
00:28:36
Global Sports Podcast Network
I now have to back 3-1 every game. Otherwise, that's something that...
00:28:39
Kev NUFC
because missed three times earlier on in the season.
00:28:42
Global Sports Podcast Network
I don't... Yeah. Oh, God, don't remind me. I think we're going to win comfortably, honestly. I know it it's too much for me to say that we're going to put eight past them like we did against Sheffield United, but the game is set up in a similar way to that.
00:28:58
Global Sports Podcast Network
I am going to go for a very high win to nil. Five stroke, six nil.
00:29:05
Kev NUFC
That'll be a nice Monday night if I'm in a hospital watching it.
00:29:07
Jo
Nice.
00:29:09
Kev NUFC
That'd be amazing.
00:29:09
Jo
but
00:29:10
Global Sports Podcast Network
You'll be in the delivery room, Kevin.
00:29:12
Kev NUFC
I'll be in my delivery room.
00:29:12
Global Sports Podcast Network
Don't allow anything.
00:29:13
Jo
Oh, bless me
00:29:13
Kev NUFC
I'll be in my delivery room.
00:29:14
Global Sports Podcast Network
No phones, nothing.
00:29:14
Kev NUFC
It'll be on my phone. I'll be cheering. I'll be like, yay.
00:29:19
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, well, your partner will be delighted with all the support that you're giving her because she's working so hard until you get and until you suddenly scream Isaac at her and then she'll know what you're really doing.
00:29:19
Jo
Get in.
00:29:24
Kev NUFC
Yep.
00:29:24
Jo
That's exactly
00:29:29
Kev NUFC
I'll like, go on, Bruno.
00:29:30
Global Sports Podcast Network
Wow.
00:29:30
Kev NUFC
I mean, I mean, Jen, not, not Bruno at all.
00:29:32
Jo
Yeah, it
00:29:33
Global Sports Podcast Network
my
00:29:33
Kev NUFC
What am i talking about? That's what it'll be on Monday night. I'm telling you, we've we've just predicted it.
00:29:37
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:29:38
Kev NUFC
but I've just predicted it right now. The call hasn't come during this episode.
00:29:40
Jo
yeah it would be hilarious if that happens.
00:29:42
Kev NUFC
I'm still not a dad for the second time during this episode. You might be by the time you listen to it on Monday morning. and But if you're not, it's coming during Leicester, isn't it?
00:29:50
Jo
Yeah.
00:29:51
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:29:52
Jo
What better way though?
00:29:52
Global Sports Podcast Network
And the child child is going to be called Bruno, which is a shame because it's going to be a little girl. No, I don't know what's going to be a little girl.
00:29:58
Kev NUFC
Yep.
00:29:58
Jo
Bless their heart.
00:29:59
Global Sports Podcast Network
I don't know what they're going to call it or not, but that would be funny. Brunella.
00:30:03
Jo
Wow.
00:30:04
Kev NUFC
It begins with a B.
00:30:04
Global Sports Podcast Network
Brunally, that's a girl's name.
00:30:04
Jo
Brunella.
00:30:05
Kev NUFC
It begins with a B and it is a girl. Have a guess in my comments.
00:30:10
Global Sports Podcast Network
but
00:30:11
Kev NUFC
That'll be brutal.
00:30:11
Jo
o yeah Oh,
