Technical Glitches and Jokes

00:00:10
Global Sports Podcast Network
Hello and welcome to the Dania Castle, this is Wildcard Wednesday, take two. We got about 10 minutes in and something went wrong with one of our laptops, all of our laptops, who knows?
00:00:23
Global Sports Podcast Network
But we've now spent about half an hour, ironically,
00:00:24
Michael
Sorry.
00:00:26
Global Sports Podcast Network
Now trying to pull back the last 10 minutes. So we've decided to give up, start again and hopefully bring as much awesome crack as we think we had.

Wildcard Wednesday and King Kev's Absence

00:00:35
Global Sports Podcast Network
Obviously we entertained ourselves for 10 minutes into this one.
00:00:39
Global Sports Podcast Network
So ah yeah, so this week's Wildcard Wednesday, obviously as you can tell is not here hosted by King Kev. I have taken his mantle again, much to his absolute delight, but I will let you have him back next week.
00:00:53
Global Sports Podcast Network
So I have let him still partake in this one because he does want to be a super sub. So anyway, first up, hi Kev. How are you doing second time round?
00:01:02
Kev
um I'm excellent second time out. I also just want to get in that I did say that if I look like Loras Karius, I would have some sort of subscription account in the first part of the episode. It makes no sense now because you just listen to this thing and what's he talking about?
00:01:15
Kev
But it was funny at the time and it's real to me.
00:01:15
Global Sports Podcast Network
Now he's got no relevance. Yeah.
00:01:17
Kev
I'd like to remember it when I listen back to this.
00:01:19
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah,
00:01:19
Kev
But yes,

Fixing Issues and Banter

00:01:20
Global Sports Podcast Network
it was a special 10 minutes.
00:01:20
Kev
I'm very good. Very frustrated technology, but I'm good.
00:01:24
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yes, I fear it's lost in the abyss, but you know, we'll get over it eventually. um Also joined by us, who did, bless his heart, try everything technical to try and get it back.
00:01:34
Kev
because it was his fault.
00:01:34
Global Sports Podcast Network
But it just... Well, you know, I'm trying to be nice here.
00:01:36
Michael
ah
00:01:37
Kev
I'm only joking.
00:01:38
Michael
but
00:01:39
Global Sports Podcast Network
It's the other super sub. It's Michael. How are you second time around?
00:01:44
Michael
Yeah, I feel less like a super sub, more like ah a William Osula sat on the bench and the manager doesn't really want to put me on.
00:01:49
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah
00:01:54
Michael
But I digress.
00:01:55
Global Sports Podcast Network
Oh, man. We're going laugh. We've got no choice, right?

Top 10 Premier League Strikers Discussion Begins

00:01:59
Global Sports Podcast Network
um So anyway, the subject is all-time top 10 Premier League strikers, obviously our opinion.
00:02:07
Global Sports Podcast Network
So all three of us have wrote up a list. We haven't really done any pre-discussion, which is good. So I think there's some obvious probably going to be ones in there. We will decide on a kind kind of combined top three.
00:02:18
Global Sports Podcast Network
um But we'll start from 10. Going up to one. And yeah, just see how this one goes and hope it doesn't cut off at 10 minutes because the plot will be lost if that happens. So I'm going to do exactly what I did like last time and Michael being the youngest one, I am going to come to you first. Give me your number 10, please.
00:02:39
Michael
In number 10 for me, it's Alexander Azar. No.
00:02:42
Kev
Woo!
00:02:44
Global Sports Podcast Network
Let's mix it up.
00:02:46
Michael
No, no. No, in number 10 for me, it is unfortunately Michael Owen. um Best years were obviously at Liverpool. Two golden boots, player of the year, somebody picked up in the 90s.
00:02:58
Michael
Team of the decade for the same period, despite not only playing the latter halves of the 90s. Yet the 2000s were all grew by these best times to any point. 2002, 03 season is one in particular.
00:03:10
Michael
And I might hate him more than most players, but he's he's got to have a spot in that top 10 for me, if I'm thinking honestly and not with the heart.

Debate Over Michael Owen's Ranking

00:03:21
Kev
Yeah, Michael Owen was, to be fair, he was a very, very good player.
00:03:21
Global Sports Podcast Network
Fair enough. Mm-hmm.
00:03:25
Kev
um I don't hate him as much as other Newcastle fans. I've talked about that and I think we did the most disliked Newcastle team. He's not a likable chap, is he?
00:03:32
Michael
Yeah.
00:03:33
Kev
But I don't hate him.
00:03:34
Michael
No.
00:03:37
Kev
He's not in my top 10, though. I've went number 10 because I love, and I think it's dying in today's game, I love this. I'm going to call it a skill. And my 10 and 9 both have this skill. but Some people call it luck, but he's a poacher.
00:03:51
Kev
He knows where the goal is. Probably my 10th and 9th picks don't score many goals outside of the box. But I think that's a skill. I think being able identify where the winger is, how his foot's shaping up, is he stretching, you know, whether to run front post or you know whether to go back post.
00:04:05
Kev
I think that's a skill which isn't recognised enough. So it's to know surprise because it's right here. and My 10th best Premier League striker of all time is Andy Cole.
00:04:12
Michael
Hmph.
00:04:15
Kev
and And again, another reason for him getting in the top 10 over Michael Owen for me, because Michael Owen would have been 11th or 12th, I'm not going to lie. and Another reason is he created so many good partnerships. Owen had a great one with Heskey, but when he was at Stoke, Newcastle and um Man United, he didn't really...
00:04:32
Kev
create other partnerships whereas Andy Cole had an unbelievable partnership with Peter Beadsley and he did it from a promoted club as well at a club like Newcastle then he went to a mega club like Man United and did it there as well and created partnerships with Dwight York and Teddy Sheringham so I feel like he's a very adaptable striker incredible goal record as well and can create them partnerships is intelligence is unbelievable so yeah Andy Cole is 10th for me
00:04:40
Global Sports Podcast Network
Mm-hmm.
00:04:58
Global Sports Podcast Network
Brilliant stuff. um As I mentioned before, um Michael Owen did not make mine either. So I'll not even talk about him because, yeah, I am one of the Newcastle fans. I'd hate him. So it's fine. That's all I've got to say about him.
00:05:10
Michael
Really?
00:05:10
Global Sports Podcast Network
And I know, yes, really, and because I haven't mentioned that one before either.
00:05:13
Michael
Yeah.
00:05:15
Global Sports Podcast Network
um And Andy Cole is further up my list as well. So again, I'm not going to

Drogba, van Nistelrooy, and Bergkamp Comparisons

00:05:20
Global Sports Podcast Network
talk about Andy Cole just yet. um
00:05:22
Michael
yeah
00:05:22
Global Sports Podcast Network
I was torn between two. um so I went a bit more of a heart over head situation. But I love both these players. But the one who actually got in my top 10 was Dennis Bergkamp. I appreciate he was not one of the all-time greatest goal scorers in terms of your multiple hundreds and stuff like that. He scored 87.
00:05:40
Global Sports Podcast Network
I just am thinking back to when he played and I genuinely loved watching that man play. Just his flair, his skill, the goals he scored, the beauty he scored against us where he kind of lobbed it over.
00:05:51
Kev
Did he mean it
00:05:52
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:05:53
Michael
Yeah.
00:05:53
Kev
Did he mean it
00:05:54
Global Sports Podcast Network
Well, I know, but then we could say a lot about like CeCe's goal, which we obviously insist he meant against Chelsea that time.
00:06:01
Kev
Definitely meant that he shot. It was a clear shot.
00:06:02
Global Sports Podcast Network
I know he meant it, but I think Bergkamp meant it as well. i'm go i know I've got to be kind here.
00:06:06
Kev
Yeah, that one's more for the debate.
00:06:06
Global Sports Podcast Network
I i loved watching Bergkamp.
00:06:08
Michael
and that
00:06:08
Global Sports Podcast Network
He was an excellent player. He was. He was an excellent player. So he got in just ahead of Van Nistelrooy, is my other one, because, again, he had an absolutely blind F5 solid years, didn't he?
00:06:15
Michael
o
00:06:18
Global Sports Podcast Network
so um But I had to pick one, and Bergkamp is what I settled on. So and we will move swiftly on to number nine, please, Michael.
00:06:22
Michael
the
00:06:27
Michael
Yeah, um just to quickly touch on um Andy Cole was actually my number 11. um All I could write down was when he gets the ball, he scores a goal. landy Andy, Andy Cole.
00:06:37
Kev
Oh, what
00:06:38
Michael
And Dennis Bergkamp, well, I'll speak more about him a little bit later. Spoiler. But my number nine is Mr. Big Game Player himself, Chelsea's favourite striker.
00:06:50
Michael
No, I'm not talking about Diego Costa. No, I'm not talking about Jimmy Floyd Hasselbank. I am talking about Didier Drogba.
00:06:55
Kev
a baller.
00:06:59
Michael
And the reason he's in ninth for me is when you dominate leagues like Chelsea did, how many big games do you actually get in the Premier League? Not that many. And I think him being a big game player, if it's Champions League, FA Cup final, League Cup final, he's in there every single day because you know he'll put in a good performance.
00:07:17
Kev
Thank you.
00:07:17
Michael
But on the average day against like ah a Southampton or a Wigan, there's a lot of strikers that I'm probably putting ahead of him. And I do have to say that 0-9-10 campaign, Didier Drogba, one of the greatest I have ever seen.
00:07:33
Michael
But overall, he was there for what? seven eight years probably had three good seasons well three fantastic seasons should i say the rest were good but just not to top 10 standards and that's why didier drogba number nine
00:07:37
Global Sports Podcast Network
Fantastic.
00:07:48
Kev
See, i've got I've got two strikers you guys have already mentioned and I've got them both under the same number.
00:07:49
Global Sports Podcast Network
fantastic
00:07:54
Kev
I don't know which one I'm going to put in yet, but one of them is going to miss out.
00:07:55
Michael
that's helpful
00:07:57
Kev
So I'm already kind of doubting my list, but I don't care. I'm sticking Cole 10. Number nine for me, um very similar to Cole in a way in terms of that intelligence I talked about. And I think this guy was incredibly intelligent. One of the rare players I can think of off the top of my head who came directly from a Dutch league and succeeded in England. There's not many who have done that. and And again, it's a little bit of a hard one because I don't know, something about him I just really love.
00:08:16
Global Sports Podcast Network
Mm-hmm.
00:08:20
Kev
It's Ruud van Nistelrooy, he's my number nine.
00:08:23
Michael
Oh.
00:08:23
Kev
and Just knew where the goal was. um Again, he scored one goal where dribbled the full length of the pitch. He never did it again, but everyone talks about that goal. But for me, was that wasn't his game. His game was being in the right place at the right time. He could head the ball. He was fantastic one-on-one. Arguably one-on-one, he's one of the best finishers I've seen. yeah I can't think of him missing one-on-ones. know he did.
00:08:44
Kev
course he did. All strikers do. i Just 25 years, I don't seem to think he missed like a sitter or one-on-one. He probably did and people slag us on there socials, but it is what it is.
00:08:55
Kev
Bring it on. and But yeah, it's that intelligence.
00:08:57
Michael
that and stuff.
00:08:58
Kev
My number 10 and number nine are strikers who probably don't get the credit we deserve for how intelligent we are in terms of positioning and reading the game reading the ball and understanding the wingers and building relationships.
00:09:11
Kev
So yeah, Ruud van Nistelrooy is number nine for me. Number eight is tough.
00:09:15
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah. um Well, yeah, I've already touched on Van der Storoy, how he just missed out my 10th, to be fair. So, absolutely fair point, putting in his 9. And, Michael, I'm right there with you. I've got Drogba as my number 10... 9, sorry. I've lost my numbers already.
00:09:30
Global Sports Podcast Network
um And I'll literally put down, very briefly, great minds indeed, um an absolute beast slash powerhouse of a striker.
00:09:31
Michael
Great months.
00:09:38
Global Sports Podcast Network
And again, I also said scored big game goals. So everything you've just kind of said about him, which is why if anyone's watching this, I'm sitting there like a nodding dog, is exactly what I was going to say about Drogba.
00:09:48
Kev
Oh, yes.
00:09:49
Global Sports Podcast Network
So we'll not take too much more time on this because, yeah, Michael's pretty much covered up exactly why Drogba is in mine. um it's It's such a tough one, isn't it, man? There's been some amazing strikers over the years, but

Introduction of New Sponsor and Humor

00:10:01
Global Sports Podcast Network
I just couldn't deny him a top 10 spot.
00:10:01
Michael
100%. Ooh. Ooh. Ooh.
00:10:03
Global Sports Podcast Network
Simple as that. So yeah, Drogva is number nine for me too. So I think what we'll do is I'm going to play our new sponsor, Bionique, which Michael, not Michael, sorry, Ian, who's not on this pod, um loves pointing out.
00:10:19
Global Sports Podcast Network
is linked beautifully to Cristiano Ronaldo. So we've obviously got some big old sponsors linked to us now, haven't we? um And what I haven't mentioned, actually, so I do apologise because we got bit lost coming back into the recording times too, is the fact that this was supposed to be a pod with a full team, but unfortunately, ian is out-out partying with I don't know who, and Nick has got, apparently Ronaldo, yeah, and Nick's lap...
00:10:40
Kev
Ronaldo.
00:10:44
Michael
Jackery Lish in Washington.
00:10:45
Kev
Probably.
00:10:45
Michael
Thank
00:10:47
Global Sports Podcast Network
And Nick just didn't fancy it at night. Nah, she's got a broken laptop.
00:10:49
Kev
No, bottled it. She bottled it.
00:10:50
Global Sports Podcast Network
So yeah, so apparently she bought it.
00:10:51
Michael
you for that.
00:10:53
Global Sports Podcast Network
ah But no, we do kids.
00:10:56
Michael
A kid.
00:10:58
Global Sports Podcast Network
um Right, so I'm going to move on to the ad and then we're going to start again at eight when we get back.
00:12:03
Global Sports Podcast Network
I'm going to stop that because I think that ad was just playing over and over again in a massive loop. So, yeah, we are very excited.
00:12:09
Michael
Yeah, he didn't want to shut up, did he?
00:12:10
Global Sports Podcast Network
I mean, yeah, I mean, we love the dulcet tones of Ken, but, um yeah, sorry about that, Ken, but we're just going to cut you off because that was going on and on a bit. So, yeah, bye, Nick. If you couldn't catch it first, you caught it twice there. So they are our new sponsor.
00:12:24
Global Sports Podcast Network
um Right, straight back into this because we need to get going at number eight. So, again, back to you, Michael, please, who you got at eight?

Cantona and Ian Wright Rankings

00:12:33
Michael
Yeah, there's going to be a lot of players that probably should be after this player um in my list. But for me, I didn't really see him play as much as what others did. So I can't really judge it as much as what others can. But Eric Cantona goes in at number eight for me.
00:12:50
Michael
And I know he's known for his all-round play. He's a great, great all-round player from what I saw. um And I also know that his goals are the reason, for well, pretty much the reason, Newcastle don't have a Premier League trophy.
00:13:02
Michael
I do have the old statistic of but that season, Man Utd won eight games, 1-0, and in five of them he scored the winner, in two he got an assist for the winner. So, yeah, that that's 14 points right there, the only one by four, so...
00:13:19
Michael
Yeah, the Frenchman's going down and at number eight out of spite, if anything else, because we'd be a completely different club, if anything else. But no, on a genuine note, I know he's fantastic, but I think he's more of an all-round player than striker, or what my definition of a striker is.
00:13:27
Global Sports Podcast Network
The word.
00:13:36
Michael
So that's why I've had to put him in at number eight.
00:13:40
Global Sports Podcast Network
Agree.
00:13:44
Global Sports Podcast Network
That's why I left him out. Mm-hmm. It's
00:13:57
Global Sports Podcast Network
a French thing.
00:14:18
Global Sports Podcast Network
and
00:14:34
Michael
Yeah.
00:15:13
Global Sports Podcast Network
Fair play.
00:15:16
Global Sports Podcast Network
True, true. um Right, yeah. I don't have much else to say about Drogba, because obviously he was my nine, wasn't he? So, um can't know, as I kind of said there, he didn't get into mine. Because, again, I was a bit torn as to whether I saw him as an out-and-out striker. um And also, yeah, I have that bit of hatred towards him, because obviously it's solely down to him that we didn't win anything, ever.
00:15:39
Global Sports Podcast Network
For all these decades, it's all his fault. It's the French, I tell you.
00:15:41
Michael
hundred percent
00:15:44
Global Sports Podcast Network
So I'm mixing it up entirely now and bringing someone a bit more of an old school favorite of mine. I just really loved watching them again back in the day. And it's Ian Wright. So I know it's I don't know if it's even.
00:15:57
Michael
Kev doesn't look impressed.
00:15:58
Global Sports Podcast Network
um Well, you know, this is where opinions and you know what it is. I know, but this is where I joked about I might show my age and all this sort of daft stuff, but I just genuinely used to love watching Ian Wright play.
00:16:10
Global Sports Podcast Network
So again, it boiled down to just how I loved watching Bergkamp play. So it's it's a bit of like, all right, again, heart over head type of situation, but 113 goals, right? Not exactly a poor striker, not exactly poor goal rate. So, no, it is. it's It was more of a heart over head decision. But Ian Wright is going in at my number eight.
00:16:30
Global Sports Podcast Network
And I'm leaving him there. And that's about all I need to say about him, to be fair. Because I ah did switch him up. He was slightly higher. But I thought, nah, Joanne, you're being silly now. And I brought him down to eight. i So, yeah, I'll move swiftly on. Michael, number seven, please.

Dennis Bergkamp's Timeless Skills

00:16:44
Michael
Yeah, I will admit Ian Wright isn't actually in the names I'd considered. He's there with, to be fair, Ruud van Nistrooy, outside 13 that I had managed to give a number to.
00:16:55
Global Sports Podcast Network
you
00:16:55
Michael
um But number seven for me ah for me, it's very similar to Eric Cantona, and we've mentioned him. It's Dennis Bergkamp. um I think he's one of those players that he started as, you know,
00:17:08
Michael
first forward, then gradually moved back. I think Cantona, I mean, I didn't mention, he started his career centre forward and then gradually moved his way back. I mean, he played centre mid at some point. I don't think Bergkamp did that.
00:17:20
Michael
Definitely more of that number 10. um Maybe more for someone in the future. ah Maybe in at number four. Spoiler. But what I'll say about Bergkamp is how many players from that era would strive and have the same impact they did then, now,
00:17:38
Michael
then and Look at strikers such as, I'm going to try and go through rattle through through who won't be on the list, um like a Berbatov or ah um a Robbie Fowler, Teddy Sherinham. Brilliant, brilliant players in that era.
00:17:51
Michael
But now, I don't think they do as well. Birdkamp, he might even do a little bit better because you're more the requirement to have that extra bit of skill on the ball. it's that It's needed now. He'd be a centrepiece.
00:18:03
Michael
He'd be playing for Man City now, without a doubt.
00:18:05
Global Sports Podcast Network
Great show that Michael.
00:18:18
Michael
yeah
00:18:18
Global Sports Podcast Network
Mm-hmm.
00:18:20
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yep.
00:18:20
Michael
Yes. 100%.
00:18:29
Global Sports Podcast Network
Mm-hmm.
00:18:30
Michael
Hmm. Hmm.
00:18:31
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yep.
00:18:44
Global Sports Podcast Network
Mm-hmm.
00:18:46
Global Sports Podcast Network
Cool. Kev, who is your seven in that case?
00:19:00
Michael
Al-san-maximan.
00:19:03
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yes.
00:19:06
Michael
Of course not.
00:19:09
Global Sports Podcast Network
michael
00:19:09
Michael
Yeah.
00:19:14
Michael
Yeah.
00:19:14
Global Sports Podcast Network
yes
00:19:25
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:19:27
Michael
Everyone did that.
00:19:30
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah. fair
00:19:42
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah
00:19:52
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah
00:19:52
Michael
Ugh.
00:19:58
Global Sports Podcast Network
It was a disaster really, wasn't it? That's good. Like in in the grand scheme, I mean.
00:20:04
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:20:07
Global Sports Podcast Network
Mm-hmm.
00:20:28
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah
00:20:31
Michael
Just a Spanish Jermaine Defoe, really.
00:20:36
Global Sports Podcast Network
Wow.
00:20:37
Michael
I can't. I can't.
00:20:39
Global Sports Podcast Network
um
00:20:40
Michael
I'm just on the wind-up.
00:20:40
Global Sports Podcast Network
oh I won't lie. He is... is...
00:20:58
Global Sports Podcast Network
It's true story. And I did have him my top 10, but spoiler alert, he's not my top 10 at all because i did remove him entirely. and Odd enough, for a player that I'm not a huge fan of, and I've talked about it with you guys, I've talked about multiple times my dad because my dad doesn't understand me, but again, this is my opinion, people, right?
00:21:06
Michael
Rightfully so.
00:21:14
Global Sports Podcast Network
So my number seven goes to a player that is definitely not a hard overhead. This is just a head because he's such a prolific goal scorer, and yet I really couldn't deny him a top 10 spot as a result. It's Harry Kane.
00:21:26
Global Sports Podcast Network
I mean, with over 200 goals... In the Premier League, it was kind of hard to leave him out, even though I'm just not a lover of Harry Kane. Never was, never will be. It's as simple as that, but I cannot just... But this is what I mean.
00:21:38
Global Sports Podcast Network
I don't think he's...
00:21:38
Michael
Give our...
00:21:40
Global Sports Podcast Network
I just don't think he's the best of the best. that I just don't.
00:21:45
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:21:46
Michael
Thierry on Reet against Aaron Hughes, Titus Bramble, Andy O'Brien.
00:21:48
Global Sports Podcast Network
Don't you start with Henry. Do not compare Kane to Henry.
00:21:51
Michael
Bramble and Boob Song.
00:21:53
Global Sports Podcast Network
Kane...
00:21:56
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah. Kane and Henri are two very different level strikers. like But anyway, he's in my top 10 and he's at number 7 purely because of the amount of goals he scored and I can't deny that.
00:22:07
Global Sports Podcast Network
But yeah. I'm not huge... Yeah, i um honestly, now that we're talking about him, I feel like stripping him of that place and putting Torres back in.
00:22:11
Michael
Disgraceful.
00:22:16
Global Sports Podcast Network
Go on, should I put Torres back in? Just like that, he's back in. yeah I am. Kane, you've been sacked off. Torres from Liverpool, which is what I had in brackets as well, is my number seven.
00:22:27
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, he's been sacked off.
00:22:28
Michael
think I'm going to be sick.
00:22:29
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah Even more so, power to the people. Anyway, we shall move on swiftly before I really make Michael hurl all over his computer.
00:22:36
Michael
I'm going to be sick.
00:22:40
Global Sports Podcast Network
um Who are you got at number six, Michael?
00:22:42
Michael
do You it crash again?
00:22:43
Global Sports Podcast Network
I know exactly. Please, God, do not let that. I'm giving up if it does. oh
00:22:48
Michael
I'm not touching it. It's fine.
00:22:49
Global Sports Podcast Network
ah No, don't please.
00:22:50
Michael
Uh, uh,
00:22:51
Global Sports Podcast Network
at Number six, please, Michael.
00:22:54
Michael
My number six, I think he's probably been overlooked because of the injuries in his career, but I add Robin Van Persie.

Van Persie's Career Highlights

00:23:00
Michael
I think at Arsenal, he was probably the only thing keeping that Wenger side in the Champions League for a long period. And I think when he went to Man United, that's when you really saw how good of a player he was.
00:23:11
Michael
Him and Rooney is that partnership, one of the best partnerships I've seen. Unfortunately, didn't last that long. Injuries is one of those things where it crippled him. But I think Robin Van Persie,
00:23:22
Michael
you know We talk about players who just sometimes poach us, could hit them from outside the box, could score with header, could do absolutely anything. Genuinely, during that period between the sort of 2000 to 2012, there probably wasn't a better striker on earth for me. Messi obviously better, but he ain't a striker.
00:23:44
Michael
So, RVP, he's up there for me.
00:23:46
Global Sports Podcast Network
love that love that kev are you feeling what's your six
00:23:53
Global Sports Podcast Network
can you imagine what you've just done
00:24:03
Michael
Yeah.
00:24:28
Michael
yeah
00:24:28
Global Sports Podcast Network
Okay.
00:24:35
Global Sports Podcast Network
Mm.
00:24:48
Michael
Yeah, what I would say is, bit I said Drog for the same thing. Drog, for three years he was incredible. The rest he was just good. RVP, best in the world for for four years for me, but maybe just good top five, top six for a large period of it, unfortunately.
00:25:01
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:25:08
Michael
Yeah, he was the worst striker in the Premier League for a little while. You can't put a player...
00:25:11
Global Sports Podcast Network
He was, to be fair, I know.
00:25:13
Michael
He was one of the worst.
00:25:13
Global Sports Podcast Network
I know what you're saying. He was shocking. Massively, yeah. Yeah. know, we'll move on.
00:25:20
Michael
Yeah.
00:25:23
Global Sports Podcast Network
Right.
00:25:25
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:25:30
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah Great shout lads, now I'm honest Van Persie's in Mindy's higher up So I'm not going to comment too much on Van Persie right now Because I agree with it everything and more that you guys have just said about Van Persie Unreal player, lethal left foot Anyway I'll shut up now So anyway, um my number 6 goes to someone that you talked about earlier Kev And it's Andy Cole So um I'm still good to this day, that's how long it's been
00:25:45
Michael
right
00:25:56
Global Sports Podcast Network
That he left us because ah remember him leaving us. And again, talked about showing my age, but no, all jokes aside, man. He was great for us.
00:26:06
Global Sports Podcast Network
He was even better for Man U. I just wanted him to be that for us. But, you know, when you, like, learn a lot of things as you get older and, you know, he did a lot of interviews as to why he left Newcastle, he couldn't cope. He just couldn't cope with the kind of popularity.
00:26:16
Michael
yeah
00:26:18
Global Sports Podcast Network
He said he loves us and I love that he only ever says nice things about us. But he said with him being quite a reserved kind of person, he just couldn't take all the fans, like... wanting to speak to him and just like he he just said it was just like this kind of overload and he yeah it was a big factor unfortunately with him leaving so um you can't really hate him for that but i'm just still gutted about him leaving an absolutely unreal striker in my opinion so that's why i had to give that kind of higher spot than you did kev um but yeah he's gonna sit solidly as my number six
00:26:50
Global Sports Podcast Network
i I think what we'll do is we will try and whiz through the five and the four because then we'll break for an ad and then we'll do a top three if that's all right you guys. um
00:26:58
Michael
Sounds good to me.
00:26:59
Global Sports Podcast Network
So, Michael, go for it. Five.

Aguero's Records and Legacy

00:27:02
Global Sports Podcast Network
You've got...
00:27:02
Michael
ah In five, again, it's someone that I think people could argue top three. Sergio Aguero, 10 years of absolute brilliance. One of the greats.
00:27:13
Michael
One of my favourite non-Newcastle players ever. And that's actually one of the reasons I've moved him down because I think I'm slightly biased. um from the Aguero to the five goals against us.
00:27:24
Global Sports Podcast Network
but
00:27:25
Michael
He's got more hat-tricks in the Premier League than any other player. He's the highest non-English goal scorer in the history of the competition. And he led City to so many fantastic titles.
00:27:37
Michael
And they tried to replace them so many times. Dzeko, Negredo, Balotelli, numerous others. they ended up having to try and play alongside them because they just couldn't match up to, for me, the greatest Argentine striker of all time.
00:27:48
Global Sports Podcast Network
yep
00:27:54
Global Sports Podcast Network
Excellent.
00:28:01
Global Sports Podcast Network
he
00:28:03
Michael
Ooh!
00:28:20
Michael
Oh, 2013,
00:28:33
Michael
would say.
00:28:36
Global Sports Podcast Network
Mm-hmm.
00:28:42
Global Sports Podcast Network
Mm-hmm.
00:29:07
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:29:18
Global Sports Podcast Network
True.
00:29:30
Global Sports Podcast Network
to
00:29:39
Global Sports Podcast Network
That's going to get tough now. That's the thing, isn't it? It's like, it's getting. yeah Well. A bit of both of what you guys have just said. Aguero, Michael, I'm absolutely with you, by the way.
00:29:51
Global Sports Podcast Network
Probably, if not definitely, my all-time favourite player, ah especially like outside Newcastle sort of thing. um And I have let my heart kind of control that bit more, hence the reason he's not in fifth and he is a bit higher up.
00:29:58
Michael
yeah
00:30:03
Global Sports Podcast Network
um But then that goes back to Kev and I've got Rooney as five as well. um But it was a strange one again. You're looking at who's ahead of it. But then it it got to the point we joked about before.
00:30:14
Global Sports Podcast Network
We wrote all these players down. and You're chopping and changing all the time. I was like, right, I've i've made my list. I'm done. Like, we'll never get this pod done if we don't kind of just settle on it. So, yeah, um you know, all-time top scorer for Man U.
00:30:22
Michael
ah
00:30:25
Global Sports Podcast Network
was just absolutely pivotal, I think, to their domination in that kind of time frame that you've just talked about.
00:30:30
Michael
Yeah.
00:30:31
Global Sports Podcast Network
So, again, I'm not going to start repeating everything you've just said, but a lot of what you've just said was what I was going to say. So, can you imagine? I know.
00:30:41
Michael
Should've.
00:30:41
Global Sports Podcast Network
Again.
00:30:44
Global Sports Podcast Network
You see, now I can just get as upset about that as about Andy Cole, and then the list goes on.
00:30:44
Michael
I imagine.
00:30:48
Michael
Yeah.
00:30:48
Global Sports Podcast Network
Now I'm going to start crying. and No, I'm joking. But yeah, so um I will try and move on, so otherwise we'll be on all night with this pod. I mean, happily, because we love talking, but you know.
00:30:56
Michael
ah
00:30:58
Global Sports Podcast Network
um But yeah, Rooney is
00:31:02
Global Sports Podcast Network
oh Well, it was someone you guys have put lower down. I've got Van Persie as my fourth.
00:31:08
Michael
yeah
00:31:09
Global Sports Podcast Network
So, I've just put lethal left foot. ah Brilliant both Arsenal and Man U. Especially Man U, I've put, actually. and Yeah, but Van Persie, I went in full.
00:31:16
Michael
i get it
00:31:24
Global Sports Podcast Network
Mm-hmm.
00:31:27
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:31:31
Global Sports Podcast Network
It's just...
00:31:44
Global Sports Podcast Network
Unbelievable.
00:31:50
Global Sports Podcast Network
Mm-hmm.
00:31:51
Michael
Yeah.
00:31:56
Global Sports Podcast Network
You're right though. Yeah. Mm-hmm.
00:32:02
Michael
Well, the great.
00:32:04
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah Yeah. what you got, Michael?
00:32:05
Michael
Yous have already mentioned him. Wayne Rooney. um Play anywhere on the park. Bested striker.
00:32:11
Global Sports Podcast Network
specific
00:32:12
Michael
Yeah, they don't compete with Chelsea in the late two thousand s if it's not what because if it's not because of Rooney. One of the most decorated players.
00:32:17
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah
00:32:19
Michael
For me, if you build me a perfect, a complete number 10, that's Wayne Rooney. If you build me a complete number 9, there's a couple of players I probably have higher than
00:32:30
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah
00:32:31
Michael
And that's why that's the only reason he's not in the top three for me.
00:32:34
Global Sports Podcast Network
great show um right we will finish that off because then we can kind of battle it out now and finally probably settle down on top three but Michael would you please do me the honours of reading out the next sponsor please
00:32:48
Michael
Once or twice. Okay.
00:32:49
Global Sports Podcast Network
Just once will do. we'll so We'll save on time, shall we?
00:32:55
Global Sports Podcast Network
Go, go, go!
00:32:55

00:33:27
Global Sports Podcast Network
No, I could hear perfectly. Let's hope that and everything else logs here.

Harry Kane's Ranking and Potential

00:33:32
Global Sports Podcast Network
um But, yeah, now to... Uh-oh. I'm worried.
00:33:45
Michael
I mean,
00:33:53
Michael
it might be me because
00:33:54
Global Sports Podcast Network
Well, this is where it gets, well, I want, you know, this is where it gets interesting, people.
00:33:55
Michael
ah
00:33:58
Global Sports Podcast Network
It's all right. So was was going to say, in the words of Sir Jacob of Murphy Newland, it's about to get juicy. So,
00:34:06
Michael
well
00:34:09
Global Sports Podcast Network
so yeah, um go on, and we'll still go around the same sort of circle. Michael, three, who you got?
00:34:16
Michael
I'm going to ruin the delusions of all of us having the same three immediately. I've got Harry Kane in at number three. Shearer 2.0.
00:34:24
Global Sports Podcast Network
There we go.
00:34:25
Michael
If Shearer was Spursy, he'd be Harry Kane. But there is not a single... Take your personal feelings out of it. There is not a single striker that is more complete and a better goal scorer than Harry Kane.
00:34:39
Michael
The two above, who I'm pretty sure we'll all have, are significantly better at certain areas. But Harry Kane, if you want to hold up the ball, he can do it. You want a number 10 who can pass?
00:34:51
Michael
He's got... brilliant passing range. You'd think he was a Spanish attacking midfielder. The only thing he possibly lacked.
00:34:59
Global Sports Podcast Network
Michael, no. No, don't go too far.
00:35:01
Michael
He's got a brilliant passing range.
00:35:03
Global Sports Podcast Network
Don't ruin it. Don't ruin it.
00:35:05
Michael
He's got a brilliant passing range. ah Genuinely, he's sort one of the most complete strikers I've ever seen in my life. And the thing is, if England had won a trophy, everyone would be saying, oh, he's number he's number two.
00:35:17
Michael
He's above the next person on my list.
00:35:19
Global Sports Podcast Network
Nah.
00:35:20
Michael
ah But for me, he could have been one of the he could have been the greatest of all time, but he stayed at Spurs. And I can respect that kind of loyalty.
00:35:28
Global Sports Podcast Network
Wow.
00:35:29
Michael
And he he ended up going to Bayern because, let's be honest, He was probably going to end up sat in the bottom half if he stayed at Spurs.
00:35:37
Global Sports Podcast Network
Wow. um Kev, please pick up on that. Who's your number three? Because we're Nordic King. So...
00:36:00
Michael
on, Suarez.
00:36:13
Michael
Oh wow!
00:36:14
Global Sports Podcast Network
No, I was going to say, Kev, that's not a good example. Kev.
00:36:23
Global Sports Podcast Network
That's hilarious.
00:36:31
Global Sports Podcast Network
Fair play. You've made that sound a bit better.
00:37:20
Global Sports Podcast Network
just the way you said it
00:37:29
Global Sports Podcast Network
i genuinely am gonna go and watch it like i i'm interested now no no i believe you
00:37:40
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah. Yeah.
00:37:45
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:37:59
Global Sports Podcast Network
True. True, true. I mean, i was torn and I don't have Suarez in. So, there's spoiler alert. is know He's not... Because if he ain't a him a if he a' him man number three, certainly is not my number two or one. So, like, I'm not going to lie. he' not um He's not... And I was torn because, again, that was one of the players that I just wanted to fit in and I just couldn't and I stopped writing the list. I got bored of myself.
00:38:23
Global Sports Podcast Network
But... I know what you're saying. And it is undeniable, all the stuff you've been saying. So

Aguero's Emotional Departure

00:38:30
Global Sports Podcast Network
I'm with you. And maybe I should have brought him in, but he still wouldn't be in my top three. not going to lie.
00:38:34
Global Sports Podcast Network
My top three is like locked in in my head. um And this is where I didn't let my heart get too wild. And I've put Aguero in at third. because again because if it it was pure favoritism he probably would have went at number one um but no no no so all jokes aside aguero was my number three because yeah and was genuinely gutted when they when he left city like i'm never gutted to see a player leave another club because why would you be that's just weird But I've never watched another player go and be genuinely sad as if he'd left us and as if he'd done all that stuff for us.
00:39:08
Global Sports Podcast Network
And I was watching those and then his career ended because of health issues. Let's leave it at that. Yeah, I know. Well, yeah. But anyway. I was even more good at them. So I was like, oh my God, I can't even now just even try and stream and watch, you know what I mean? Over in Barca or whatever. So, but yeah, all jokes aside, Aguero had to be in my top three.
00:39:29
Global Sports Podcast Network
um So he, yeah.
00:39:52
Global Sports Podcast Network
Okay. Okay. That's fine.
00:40:07
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah. We had two blinded ones, yeah.
00:40:29
Global Sports Podcast Network
No, no, we're going to you first, Michael. You're giving us your number two first. We're shutting Kev off now because he's being silly. Not only joking Kev, jokes aside. joke Jokes, jokes. Michael, go.
00:40:41
Global Sports Podcast Network
Two.
00:41:27
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah
00:41:38
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah
00:41:56
Global Sports Podcast Network
Mm-hmm.
00:42:02
Global Sports Podcast Network
Well, ill I'll skip ahead of Kev this time because I don't know what he's got, but I do have a feeling that we might have all have the same top two because it's going to be pretty hard to not, I think, personally. But I have put Shearer as two as well, I'll be honest, just because it's just obvious. How can you not?
00:42:17
Global Sports Podcast Network
Deadly in front of goal. Obviously, the Premier League, you know, top striker. So, you know, yeah many reasons that he's just got to be up there in the top three anyway. But, yeah, again, i am with you, Michael. um So, yeah, there is that one player that we'll have to put ahead of him.
00:42:32
Global Sports Podcast Network
And at this point, it really can only be one player. So it would be unbelievable, Jeff, if any one of us doesn't have this other player's number one. However, Kev, is she a number two for you? Are we all then going to end up settling on the same number one?
00:42:47
Global Sports Podcast Network
I'm interested.
00:43:03
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:43:06
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah. Mm
00:43:17
Global Sports Podcast Network
hmm. ye
00:43:33
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:43:45
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:43:56
Global Sports Podcast Network
I agree.
00:44:03
Global Sports Podcast Network
It's what we love about opinions, right? They're all different.
00:44:08
Global Sports Podcast Network
But no, I was, i wouldn't, Of course they are. Michael's like, brrr. um I want to say I was lucky enough to watch She-Ra and his prime. I watched him when he was at Blackburn. I watched him throughout his Newcastle years.
00:44:21
Global Sports Podcast Network
I was young. I'm not that old, people. Old jokes aside. um But, yeah, so I'm proper old. So haggard. No money joke. So, yeah, I mean, this is going to be a very swift... Yeah, you ready? Three, two, one...

Thierry Henry: The Greatest Premier League Striker

00:44:40
Global Sports Podcast Network
Henry! Shut up, Michael. I knew someone was going to spoil it. I didn't know which one of you would do it, though. shouldn Shouldn't know, Michael. Shouldn't, obviously.
00:44:52
Global Sports Podcast Network
But yeah, come on. I'd be amazed, and I really want, if anyone's still listening to us, and I hope you guys are, um to put in the comments if anybody disagrees with this, because obviously all three of us have just solidified first and second. We all have different number threes, which is interesting.
00:45:09
Global Sports Podcast Network
um But I would love to know if anybody else picks an a different one too. Yeah, yeah.
00:45:19
Global Sports Podcast Network
I don't hate him either.
00:45:27
Global Sports Podcast Network
I reckon he will, Kev. I reckon he will get in the pupils. Definitely.
00:45:34
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:45:57
Global Sports Podcast Network
Holland was never getting in mine.
00:46:02
Global Sports Podcast Network
I'm no fan of Holland either.
00:46:10
Global Sports Podcast Network
He's not the complete striker though.
00:46:15
Global Sports Podcast Network
He's not the complete striker everyone makes him out of me. He's just not. And people probably slate us for this, but he's just not.
00:46:26
Global Sports Podcast Network
Hmm.
00:46:31
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:46:41
Global Sports Podcast Network
I hope he goes. He's actually a player I want to leave the Premier League. I do not like the lad. I don't know what it is. I've never liked him since he came. Again, a really good conversation my dad have had because he's like, why?
00:46:53
Global Sports Podcast Network
Why are you so bothered by him? I don't know. I really don't know what ah the underlying feeling is. I really don't and I'd happily see him leave the league. Toodles. So yeah. So on that, I mean, we've mentioned Henry and then we've said absolutely jack-all about Henry. I mean, it's He's just god tier, isn't he? He's literal god tier when it comes to strikers.
00:47:14
Global Sports Podcast Network
Mm-hmm. Yeah. No, no, we don't. You don't know what you're talking about.
00:47:22
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah. it's It's not an opinion, it's fact. He is god tier, you're right. So...
00:47:46
Global Sports Podcast Network
Unbelievable player. Unbelievable. Yeah. Mm-hmm.
00:47:54
Global Sports Podcast Network
The original Ronaldo to me will always be the best Ronaldo. And there's a controversial one because obviously everyone just thinks it's the Oh.
00:48:09
Global Sports Podcast Network
war when you had two knees. Ah, good times. what tell you. um
00:48:18
Global Sports Podcast Network
can you imagine? You're gorgeous. Oh, dear.
00:48:24
Global Sports Podcast Network
but yeah Bad times. Bad times. And this is why we've won nothing. No, joking. But yeah, I think we you know we mentioned it in the WhatsApp before, didn't we? I think we need to do it um a favourite one.
00:48:39
