The Spurs Fan Experience: Emotional Highs and Lows

00:00:21
Global Sports Podcast Network
For those of you not used to my dosed West Country tones, I'm Chris Mervyn and today we're diving into the typical life of a Spurs fan and the rollercoaster of emotions it inevitably brings. From my latest semi-final clash against the mighty Liverpool, to our upcoming f FA Cup adventure against Tamworth and the breath of fresh on post-ococities, easy for me to say, ah young guns have brought to the team. So grab a cuppa, put on your Spurs memorabilia that you've just been given for Christmas and let's get into it.

Carabao Cup Semi-Final Highlights and Key Players

00:00:49
Global Sports Podcast Network
I'm fine and solo today, so let's chat about Wednesday night semi-final first leg for the White Hart Lane first. Yes, I am saying White Hart Lane. I don't care what anyone thinks about it.
00:01:02
Global Sports Podcast Network
ah What a game, right? I really enjoyed it. um Great for the neutrals and for ones great for Spurs fans as well. League leaders Liverpool travelled to the best ground in the country for the Caribou Cup semi-final first leg and while it didn't go all their own way, we stayed in touch throughout the game and in my massively biased opinion, we got the result we deserved. ah First things first, let's talk about the standout players. ah Lucas Bergval was electric all night.
00:01:29
Global Sports Podcast Network
driving forward creating chances and showing his hunger to win on the pitch and then there was young Archie Grey who I said more than once or twice on this podcast will be a star and he was just coming out of position just and and got on with it and the final young gun of course I'd like to praise it's no surprise as our new keeper Kingsky who only got you know he didn't get off the plane ah very quickly.

In-Depth Player and Strategy Analysis

00:01:56
Global Sports Podcast Network
He was straight into the start and line up. He's been hailed as a new Peter Chek in his homeland as well. um you know He was amazing and sometimes YouTube is a great thing um for once.
00:02:09
Global Sports Podcast Network
evidence there that he was decent with a ball at his feet and a decent shot stopper and it came to fruition for that match. Now I'm going to, or not going to get carried away, it's my show today, but he found himself playing high up a pitch as a sweeper keeper if you like, Carnesk.
00:02:27
Global Sports Podcast Network
And I watched him with the ball at his feet, as we all did. I found myself slowly fiting foot sitting further back in my chair, watching the game. And it was a strange feeling being relaxed when watching all over the team, especially when it got to the back. um ah Like Berghav and Gray, he had a calm and assured performance. um We obviously won't talk about Berghav's London tackle. And with Kingsky stepping up to play as an extra defender almost, I found myself looking at the team structure and thinking,
00:02:55
Global Sports Podcast Network
Ah, so this is Ang, how Ang wanted it to look like. Um, I like it. I like it coming up with delve into the match itself a little more, but first this.
00:03:46
Global Sports Podcast Network
Welcome back. Let's talk about that semi-final game in a little bit more detail. um For those of you who haven't caught up on the game yet, ah firstly, where have you been? And secondly, please do so. It was a great game to watch. Bergval played with energy and confidence. He's, again, I've got my few favorites as you know, getting them in and go from a Sri Lanka assist who had another solid game there as well. It was a move started by the keeper um and played out from the back and one which Big And would no doubt be very pleased with. Bergval took us to go very, very well and it was a fitting end to a great performance by him. I mean,
00:04:20
Global Sports Podcast Network
You know, who's writing this kid's script? Steven Spielberg, surely. um A couple of quick stats from the match. A 1-0 win, of course. Bergeville scoring in the 86th minute. Spurs have 40% of possession, which is unusual. And probably testament, obviously, one to Liverpool. um But um also that we, in defense, in midfield, we seem to sit back a little bit deeper and not push on so much.
00:04:41
Global Sports Podcast Network
um Could it have been a bit of pragmatism by Anj? I don't know. but and I don't know. We can go there later. um and Incredibly, there were only two yellow cards in the game that was played with some good intensity. Busuma, surprise, surprise, and Bergval being the two. Bergval being unlucky for his first <unk> for yellow card there, if you ask me. um But then he did get away with the silent challenge as Liverpool broke late in the second half, and the referee played advantage.
00:05:10
Global Sports Podcast Network
and couldn't go back to that yellow card. but We registered nine shots for them on target compared to their 14 shots with seven on target. Now, what's been really refreshing about Spurs right at the moment is the

Rising Stars: Young Players Taking the Stage

00:05:27
Global Sports Podcast Network
youngsters. So the youngsters are leaving it all out on the pitch fans, Angela, and injuries to keep players like Van de Ven, Romero and our doggy have forced the gaffer to dig it deep into the squad depth and boy, the kids have delivered.
00:05:39
Global Sports Podcast Network
long may it continue. Indues are key players like Van de Ven, of course, Romero, um you know, it's it's really not helped at all. and Lucas Berver, i sorry ah Archie Gray, and Jed Spence, aka Jed Lee King, what like one of my co-presenters likes to call him, they've shown really immaturity beyond their years. And let's not forget about our new co-keeper, Kinski, who stepped in for an injured Vicario and already seems like he's been wearing a shirt vest for a few good games.
00:06:09
Global Sports Podcast Network
um With the Avajevo squad being lower than the other teams, we're always going to lack experience in the squad. um And the only way to get that is to actually play the youngsters, of course. And this has given them access to top-level football themselves, sink or swim. And whilst more seasoned players in the squad are still doggy paddling, if you like, around the players that have got their chance, the young players in particular, they've gone on and taken it, and they're front-crawling all around the opposition.
00:06:37
Global Sports Podcast Network
It makes you think where we would be without the injuries and a better league position, sure. And without the ups and downs, maybe. But sometimes um opportunities come along and push projects along faster. And this may be this, in the in this case, it might be that way.

FA Cup Preview: Tamworth Challenge

00:07:43
Global Sports Podcast Network
So this weekend we swapped the bright lights of White Hart Lane for a trip to the Lamb Ground to face mighty Tamworth in the FA Cup third round. It's a proper David versus Goliath story and these are the fixtures that of course make the FA Cup so special. ah Tamworth have been on a giant killing run to get here of course they have and their manager has been rallying the troops saying anything can happen but let's not kid ourselves Spurs should have the quality to see this one through.
00:08:08
Global Sports Podcast Network
and I'm predicting And will give some of our fringe youngsters um a chance to shine while mixing in a few experienced hairs to keep things steady. um Players like Mikey Moore should be more than good enough to compete, hopefully he's given a chance, um and with due respect against this level of opposition of course. um And with Arsenal being an opponent the game after, Amaro boosting victory with no injuries whilst wrestling with few players will be very very very welcomed by all of our Spurs fans.

Manager Ange's Influence and Team Spirit

00:08:39
Global Sports Podcast Network
So on the on the feeling of Ang there, I've been questioning for a little bit of time. um and his tactics in particular I've been questioning. We had a full team, I wasn't alone in questioning why he wasn't more pragmatic in his approach to differing opposition. I wanted to believe him and the project, believing it, because it's what I wanted too. um But I didn't, and I still don't like the way he leaves himself open to easy criticism and sometimes comes across as a little arrogant and dismissive of people's points of view.
00:09:12
Global Sports Podcast Network
And whilst one swallow doesn't make a summer, I'm going to take a moment now to appreciate what Ange has done for this club to this point. um Not many and for many months he's transformed the atmosphere at Tottenham, of course he has. The fans are singing, mostly in June.
00:09:31
Global Sports Podcast Network
ah The players are smiling, and even when results don't go our way, there is a belief that something special is building, and you can see that the players are playing for him, ah particularly now with the young players, and i given they're all in the pitch. So I am getting well behind the team, um as most people should do, with a mixture of um experienced leaders and fearless youngsters. um Spurs could very soon, I think, feel like a family again.
00:09:58
Global Sports Podcast Network
um did go a little bit wayward a couple of matches ago, we've just got to sit together. And while NG's are never ideal, it's been amazing to see the young players grab their own opportunities with both hands. um And that's what we want to see. We want to see people playing for the badge and wanting to be on the pitch and giving their all, of course.
00:10:16
Global Sports Podcast Network
um And these kids are not just playing for the badge, they're playing for Ranch, ah for the fans and for the future of this club. And there are some players, of course, I'd like to see moved on, but that is for another podcast.

Closing Remarks and Support for the Team
