Global Sports Podcast Network
Hello and welcome to the Daily Tottenham Podcast. Me, Joe Forrester, looking back at Spurs' thrilling 4-3 victory over Manchester United in the quarter-final of the Carabao Cup last night. um Right, what a game. Absolutely bonkers. Twist turns, some stunning goals, defensive blunders, um real showcase of of Spurs kind of yo-yo style um strengths and weaknesses. And I suppose from a Manchester United point of view, ah they'll be thinking how much work Ruben Amarin has

Spurs' Early Domination

yet to do. So just to catch you up on exactly what happened, Spurs surged ahead in the 12th minute with a beautifully crafted team goal. Dominic Solanke slotted him from Kulesevsky's inch perfect pass after a swift counter attack. Cooley then got on the score sheet himself in the 29th minute, converting a close range chance

from Pedro Porro's overlapping cross. Tottenham dominated possession and tempo, pinning United back with relentless pressing.

United's Comeback Attempt

Solanke struck again in the 53rd minute, calmly finishing a through ball from James Madison to make it 3-0.

poor play at the back allowed Joshua Zirksi in in the 63rd minute um to give United a little window of opportunity um before Fraser Forster had an absolute nightmare, messed up a clearance, Ahmed Diallo closed him down and that led to Manchester United's second goal and it really was game on at that point where it was 3-2 before Sonny curled one in directly from a corner, um apparently called an Olympic goal, that refers to the Olympics back in 1924 I believe.

Decisive Moments and Final Score

00:01:35

um Jonny Evans then got another deep into time added on but Spurs managed to hold on um making it 4-3 ah overall and Spurs through to the semi-final where they will face Liverpool in the other semi-final, Newcastle are going to play Arsenal.

Ange Posterkogloo on Spurs' Playstyle

00:02:35
Global Sports Podcast Network
Spurs manager, Ange Posterkogloo, described the game as a rollercoaster of emotions, but defended Tottenham's attacking philosophy, quoted Gladiator afterwards, saying, oh you're not entertained um are you not entertained? not entertained? We aim to play football that people love to watch, even if it comes with some risks, um but he did acknowledge the defensive mistakes, saying that we gifted them a couple of goals, no doubt about that. These errors need to be cut out if we want to win trophies, but I won't compromise on our style. We are entertainers.
00:03:02

um Ruben Amarin expressed ah disappointment, obviously Manchester United is defending, saying you can't concede goals like that at this level, it puts us in a

hole. um And while I'm proud of the fight back, we made it hard for ourselves. um So looking at the yeah the player performances, Dominic Solanke, absolutely fantastic to be honest. Two goals and the second one kind of where he ran through, cut inside and then finished it from the edge of the area, kind of was Harry Kane-esque. He's been a great buyer for Spurs and I think it's really proved those doubters, myself included, wrong.
00:03:31

um not just ah work great, but also goals. I think he's been fantastic so far. Dejan Kulesevsky really provided that creative spark for Spurs, goal and assist. Just looks such a fantastic player, like quick, strong, great feat. Yeah, very complete footballer um at the moment. And Fraser Forster, while he pulled off some key saves, his areas did lead directly to two goals. Manchester United, obviously Ahmad Diallo,

took a goal opportunistically to continue his good start under Amarin. A bit of energy off the bench with Garnaccio and their defence overall, particularly Los Angeles Martinez, really struggled to deal with Spurs at time.

Challenges of High Pressing

00:04:12
Global Sports Podcast Network
um Having a look at the tactics, Posterkog Lou's high pressing system did start for United early on, forced some mistakes, enabled those fast transitions. um But again, defensive frailty, particularly under pressure, remained a glaring issue. And Spurs fans really will be asking why when we don't have Ficario, who's a keeper who's excellent with the ball at his feet are we continuing to play out from the back involving the keeper who's almost kind of a sweeper an auxiliary defender. I'm expected to play with his feet when clearly it's not Fraser Forster's strength. He's a shot stopper and he's good at it um but just let him lump the ball long and it would have been an easier night. Manchester United played it in the 4-3-3. Reuben Ammerim obviously favours that formation but he's ah
00:04:57
Global Sports Podcast Network
He's a little bit kind of tactically fluid. They kind of moved to three at the back at certain points last night. um And you United it certainly do seem to have a little bit of something under him. But um I think it's very clear that the kind of time still will tell on on Amarin. And I think he feels that he has a lot of work to do as well.

Looking Ahead to Liverpool Clash

00:05:46
Global Sports Podcast Network
Okay, up next Spurs prepare for the challenging semi-final obviously against Liverpool and the Carabao Cup starter next year. Tottenham's so unpredictable, they will fancy they have a chance of going through ah against the the current league leaders who also they face this weekend in the Premier League. um On that note, make sure you do check out on Saturday morning our preview pod with Adarsh from ah Daily Liverpool comes out, we'll be looking ahead to the Premier League game. ah Yeah.

as opposed to the semi-final, and said he wins trophies in and his second season, it remains to be seen, but Tottenham are another step closer. um Right, that's it for for the Daily Tottenham Podcast.
