Introduction and Guest Introduction

Hello and welcome to another Avaneshian commentary. It's a bonus commentary. It's our annual Chris birthday bonus bash. So I'm your host Zach. I'm your co-host Chris. The birthday boy. And we especially guess Adam. Hey how's it going? And Justin. It's me.
Movie Tradition and 'China O'Brien' Introduction
00:00:53
Speaker
And as usual we always try to find some sort of martial arts movie or ridiculous you know kung fu movie to watch for chris's birthday we watched all the three ninjas movies we watched uh virtual combat we watched what else we watched chris i think we watched moral combat once moral combat annihilation maybe or something no that was another time but yeah but uh this year we are watching the 1999 1990 cinthia rothrock classic uh china o'brien directed by the man who directed enter the dragon
00:01:27
Speaker
Oh my gosh. Yeah, there's some pedigree in this movie. It's definitely a movie I saw when I was way too young to understand what was going on. And I picked it because I thought, oh, now that I'm older and seen a lot more movies, maybe I can understand it. I watched it before I watched like the show it with you guys. Let me tell you, it's still just as confusing as when I was like five watching this.
Initial Impressions of 'China O'Brien'
00:01:55
Speaker
I'm trying to figure out this was Cause cause I was like sitting around who was in like, she was in like China, like Hong Kong, making movies for a while. Was this is like her first big, like, um like America, like a back in Hollywood? Like, I'm not sure. I don't know the timeline. I feel like there was another movie before this, before they decided, but this is like a Hong Kong production, uh, movie. Yeah. Cold, cold harvest. We're watching.
Distribution and Collectibility of 'China O'Brien'
00:02:20
Speaker
Yeah. Yeah. We're going to frame it. So, uh, but do you want to mention who redistributed this?
00:02:32
Speaker
who distributed it or like who like re-bought the rights and then decided to repackage this as like a like a 4k release oh i think i think there's a vinegar syndrome version right yeah yeah there's like a res version did it like i think i went into that and then it's like a it's like a duo pack right yeah yeah so because of that like yeah even like a lot of streaming services now don't feature this they want people to buy this on physical copies so hopefully some people have really interest in this I found it it's on if you search like daily mode if you search on Google like I found like daily motion has a couple copies I guess that's not as like policed as YouTube and stuff but yeah it's not it's not easily streaming on like Prime Video or any of the other streaming sites which is weird because like Prime Prime is like a Cynthia Rothrock like hotspot it's out there's like it doesn't sit to rocker movies out there but not this one
00:03:30
Speaker
Right. Do you think there was at least like three people in line waiting for this? so it but When they remastered it, they're like, oh, it's coming to blue right now. And there was like three people outside of like a best buy. Yep. Oh yeah. We got released this year, 2024, and only 7,000 units are available, like we're made.
Nostalgia and Cultural Elements in 'China O'Brien'
00:03:50
Speaker
then And then on vinegar syndrome, it's like, we have over like a thousand copies left in their warehouse.
00:03:57
Speaker
I believe it, but I do admit this thing is pretty like a nice package. There's like a whole bunch of things. So, you know, hopefully, uh, people do own this and want to hear us talk about it. Um, is this your mission of being one of those people? I'm probably you own the blueberry copy of this movie. I'm going to own like a thousand copies and sink that market. Oh, is it called like when you start a market inflation or market manipulation? I'm going to do that with a channel of Ryan. There's people who tried to say that like Three Ninjas was a super rare game for NES and then the price skyrocketed because everyone believed them.
00:04:40
Speaker
But yeah, this is definitely one of the movies that encapsulates another 90s nostalgia and also just like the like capitalization of like martial arts, but like unfocused because like I said, Chan O'Brien, she's neither Chinese or like practicing some sort of like kung fu. She is doing karate and I think that she's barely Irish, I think. like yeah So it's like a hodgepodge of like insanity in this movie. I'm really excited to show you guys because you cannot tell where the plot's gonna go. At any moment you think it's gonna be one thing, it's gonna change its mind.
Syncing the Movie with the Podcast
00:05:30
Speaker
so so let's let's get into it then. So um if you somehow if you found a copy of China O'Brien, we are paused at zero. um I believe there's some sort of production logo that comes up on our version that we're watching before like the credits. It's like, I don't know, like, did you see what production company was Chris or?
00:05:53
Speaker
I think it's Golden Harvest or something. the Golden Harvest level? Okay. Oh, Media Asia Group. is like yes so before that if you if If your version has that, we're responsible for that. um if you if you If it starts for the credits, then just sort you know skip ahead like 10 seconds or something. but Yeah, I think our total runtime is... Let's just all shout out Brian. Yes, we will we will will will well say the title of the movie when it comes up on the screen.
00:06:20
Speaker
Yeah, it's hard to sync this one. I've definitely seen a few copies where the logo is different, because it depends on who redistributed at the time. I saw a couple where it's just like... That's the best one. Yeah, I've seen a couple where it's just like, card cuts, it's just the credits. It starts to write the credits, so... Also, it was like, filmed on a camcorder to a TV. In that version. This version we're watching is a little bit better. So, Chad O'Brien really fought his way up to become a 4K loser. 4K, yeah. I can't even imagine a 4K.
Commentary on Opening Scenes and Characters
00:06:50
Speaker
right, so I'll give i'll give a countdown here. We'll start. So five, four, three, two, one, play. Yes.
00:07:04
Speaker
ah Media Asia is definitely one of the brands I grew up with by like renting Chinese movies. And it just like sound tested your system.
00:07:17
Speaker
with thq of china media asia all of asia or just parts of asia i feel like it's a certain part of asia golden harvest presents and then this guy also china o'brien o'brien in like in like stereotypical like chinese fonts and then like chinese takeout font yeah that yeah
00:07:53
Speaker
I liked it. So made the know Chinese. Yeah, yeah. but Yeah. See, like, of course. And it just keeps going.
00:08:06
Speaker
We've got Richard Nordens in this.
Early Plot Analysis and Unexpected Twists
00:08:10
Speaker
I got screwed up. What time you guys at? Like a minute, 15 Patrick Adams and just is co-starring in this.
00:08:21
Speaker
She's teaching a karate class, by the way.
00:08:27
Speaker
Is she always is it cinndr like always like a ah instructor? You know, she has another job. She's always like a karate instructor. Is this not like some karate kid? She's crease. Yeah. I think she's always like she in all almost all her movies, she has two jobs. It's never like one. She has like multiple careers. That's very relevant these days.
00:08:52
Speaker
Yeah, she's working that gig economy. Ramen Chao.
00:09:06
Speaker
Jesus. This is like Cobra Kai. Yeah, everyone's got nicknames and like... oh
00:09:21
Speaker
Did she karate kick the cup off screen? You just karate kicked my water.
00:09:39
Speaker
termite wants to make an m MMA like gym. This is a weird proposal. I feel like I've definitely seen this video somewhere. Now see jumping jacks. I should do some aerobics after some katas. I don't know if it's a good idea to just like fight your karate instructor. Just like, I'll fight you and alien the streets. What's a karate instructor lose is like, don't you lose like all sense of like leadership over everyone now, like no one respects you. Well, I don't know. Oh my god, that mullet goes hard bro.
00:10:16
Speaker
He told her about this karate, like, bike club. But then he gets his ass kicked, so... He needs, like, karate. Like, I don't know what's going on with this guy. I mean, maybe if he drank some water, he would have been okay. He's dehydrated.
00:10:46
Speaker
with my scarf. It's an ass-cot. Yeah.
'China O'Brien' Character Journey and Police Suspension
00:11:00
Speaker
Three people have to emerge. My karate senses sense you. Who senses the sensei?
00:11:21
Speaker
There comes like a bunch of Cholos. Want to do some back alley activities. All right, bye.
00:11:43
Speaker
what is edit it weird right yeah wait so these are just random alley guys just wait this alley this is like it's like crime alley on steroids it's like every guy members here still giving lessons
00:12:15
Speaker
Oh, this is a different alley. Okay.
00:12:28
Speaker
She like equalizing because like if someone reading off moves and defining things, I feel like this is like a special like like
00:12:46
Speaker
like an Asperger karate teacher so he so they're assuming that there was some some sort of setup yeah it was gonna be a setup where she was supposed to win
00:13:04
Speaker
was like, does it matter? It's not termites guys. They're still trying to attack you. And she's like, Oh, this is the real deal. She's action she actually going, she's going ape shit. Like kill actually trying to kill them. Yeah. She's actually kind of described the moves.
00:13:21
Speaker
That's a cool scorpion kick. Just too bad. It's like a trademark, right? Yeah. Yeah. Well, I thought her thing was like a flying kick. was ah she wanted
00:13:37
Speaker
ah also car but we see gentrification in action ah fred it god taught yeah it say freeze of a co manng Shoot first ask questions later Jesus a shot a kid
00:14:01
Speaker
Going the Reginaldville Johnson way you're suspended China Dude, I love how the office is just like three little like half walls put together. Yeah, it's just like it's my show Joe Corner thing it didn't didn't matter that she was a cop in the beginning cuz we're four like seven minutes in she's not a cop and She's leaving wherever see that was
00:14:28
Speaker
Is she singing this song that's on her own radio? I don't know why it sounds like her voice as she sang.
00:14:40
Speaker
You know, that that would have been a triple threat. Cynthia Rothrock is also a singer. Let's get that coconut. Oh, I think this is the yeah the kid. So a Wikipedia says this is a Tori Amos song, but then she didn't want her name on it. So she made a fake band up.
00:14:58
Speaker
Oh, that's so great. So, the so the band is Tess Makes Good.
00:15:08
Speaker
Why even have a T in the title? I feel like it's one of those things where it's like a riddler puzzle where you can figure out Tess Makes Good is Tori Amos.
00:15:23
Speaker
Did she think this was going to be like a super franchise or something? I mean, it kind of is because there's two Shadow Brian movies. Oh, man, this town needs karate.
00:15:39
Speaker
This looks like a hometown baseball game community. Time to karate it up. But it's some easy evil business trying to buy the town or something.
00:15:55
Speaker
but It's good that she got away because crime alley was insane. That was just like a boss level. Like that's the gauntlet. Yeah. Yeah.
00:16:08
Speaker
So, OK, I've missed something about the dialogue. Did she get fired or she resigned? He asked for her badge and guns, so that means she she was. Yeah. He killed a kid. You're done.
00:16:20
Speaker
I mean, she also had a fight like 10 other guys. And the kid had a gun. And you had to save termite, you know? Mm-hmm.
00:17:09
Speaker
You can just come in and talk to the town deputy or sheriff. Bye bye!
00:17:23
Speaker
Whoa! Like... See what I mean? This movie? I just saw you kill that kid!
00:17:36
Speaker
Everybody else is very like relaxed in this, in this bar for this that' a normal thing that happens, bro. No one, no one like jumps down from that gunshot. They don't back off. They just, all right.
00:18:05
Speaker
ah He's a murderer. So where's the body that they claim he was the murderer of?
00:18:20
Speaker
See, okay, even in like a narrative beat, we're supposed to assume that there are some rough people here. But as a kid, I because I didn't see it. Like it's confusing.
Convoluted Plot Twists and Character Interactions
00:18:46
Speaker
so they're I'm just gonna go continue chasing these kids. It's weird that he was wearing the same outfit as the murderer. Yeah! I was like, is that the same guy? He's like, oh hey, my old girlfriend's here! Yeah! Everything's coming up murderer.
00:19:11
Speaker
Please be a diner. Nope, same bar. Same bar, okay. Great value Johnny Cash on the radio.
00:19:33
Speaker
My God, this ADR is out of control. Cat calling bar.
00:20:12
Speaker
It is patty like the town whore
00:20:44
Speaker
What town is this? It's like... It's it's like Utah somewhere. and Yeah, yeah have but... This is the American city in rural China.
00:20:58
Speaker
Everyone has to have a turn to try to molest. Karate! Oh, my one weakness, my penis. why yes My turn to try this.
00:21:15
Speaker
home is this plan asteroids you'll want to know that he also knows karate the all-bikers I think I look familiar what's it is named up he's called say said keith cook Yeah. Shit, that was Sub-Zero, Mortal Kombat Annihilation. There we go. like and He's like another legit martial artist.
00:22:27
Speaker
Okay, this this town's full of like perverts and murderers. like I don't understand how this sheriff isn't just arresting people constantly about that bar. Mm-hmm.
00:23:02
Speaker
She really should be called Japan, O'Brien. Like, really crawl off the tongue.
00:23:15
Speaker
That one cop looks more criminal than and do in doing the red shirt. That guy looks like he he like smells his fingers and like looks at school. Yeah. I don't know. Marty Lichtner.
00:23:42
Speaker
I got a funny feeling about Lickner. I'd have to be paid by the villain.
00:23:58
Speaker
Does she even eat any of it? her plate looks Yeah, I know. was Is that the mom? I don't know.
00:24:18
Speaker
I'll use my deadly hands to defeat.
00:24:38
Speaker
If only there were some law enforcement to handle this.
00:25:13
Speaker
So who's this guy? He's probably a brother. brother yeah but again You want me to meet you in Crime Alley? What? About a year ago.
00:25:41
Speaker
It's a huge house, dude.
00:25:47
Speaker
Oh, look, the deputy guy knows the evil lawyer.
00:26:37
Speaker
I don't think that means what you think it means.
00:26:50
Speaker
Can you just take your chips back? I feel like they didn't define a winner, right? Like they just sort of ends. You can when you're corrupt.
00:27:20
Speaker
Is this in the same room or is this like another room? Oh, it doesn't matter. It's just the torture house. You guys don't want to have that in New Jersey? Your mansion torture house? Yeah, no, we don't have that.
00:27:46
Speaker
You're new people, Richard Norton. You shouldn't be in this town. He's the only Australian guy here. In Utah. He was just in town on business.
00:28:10
Speaker
so So they went to high school together, and he was like, but he like How long has he been in America? but no he he so Her dad said he went to Special Forces for like a year and came back. Now he teaches the high school. With Special Forces in Australia, so he just like got an Australian accent. really it's like Why was he in australia's not but else an now? Yeah.
Action Sequences and Choreography Discussion
00:28:42
Speaker
he's definitely going in and out of this action he's trying as hard as he can to do the american accent but uh... yes it's funny cuz we saw another movie version order octagon he was the ninja he was like the superman i think a lot of dialogue in that movie he did not
00:29:13
Speaker
How's my meth lab going?
00:29:17
Speaker
um man He's just like walking through like he's walking through a construction site. You guys have water? You guys good? Everybody good here? How's your kid? Help my boy, Rean Hustler.
00:29:38
Speaker
yeah It's not the meth cocks, it's the guy who's doing the accounting and the accounting. Can we talk about the dude's outfit? Why is he wearing a tie? yeah' yeah He's got a tie, he's got chucks on too nonetheless. does he gets This dude walked so Avril Lavigne could run.
00:29:57
Speaker
He was just a skater boy. And he said, see you later, boy. Hello.
00:30:19
Speaker
How far does he live from the fucking town?
00:30:35
Speaker
Whoa, come on, like this guy stalking her?
00:30:58
Speaker
Who was that again? Because were this guy definitely is not that.
00:31:19
Speaker
Wait, where'd the guy on the motorcycle go? Wasn't he like right there?
00:31:27
Speaker
No, he went to go become Sub-Zero for a moment. Yeah, there he is. Oh, he has no hands. That's so metal. Is he using his nub to drive the motorcycle? Yeah, he's basically evil deading this thing. He's basically Ash Williams. He's got a nub slot in his motorcycle handles.
00:32:22
Speaker
Tommy Lee Jones. Yeah, I know. It looks so different. You know, I've never found a young picture of Tommy Lee Jones. It's weird because that dude looks like Tommy Lee Jones in like young version, Josh Brolin, like merged into one. Yep.
00:32:41
Speaker
It's crazy. The nuts on these dudes to just be like, oh yeah, we're actually just going to use your company to do work now. It's still crazy.
00:33:01
Speaker
Barely force a bad happens don't get on his bad side. He's Wolverine Dude look at that stash though, that's crazy I Mean yeah, he just pulled a gun for no reason
00:33:25
Speaker
i mean yeah he just pulled a gun for no reason just because these guys are illegal milling well now we know where china got it from yeah shoot first
00:33:46
Speaker
I think first thing would be hilarious if China's like, all right, I just want to make sure we're clear. Is everyone here over the 18th? She's got so much force behind her punches. Dude flew back like five feet.
00:34:08
Speaker
Not gonna lie, the song bops. approach
00:34:15
Speaker
I found my new gym workout music. I'm selling.
00:34:28
Speaker
ah Oh, man. That's a Van Damme move. Oh, I wasn't expecting the triple kick.
00:34:45
Speaker
this guy got fired from dead prepared alive although there's a little ever find them but at least you didn't shoot them right that's the yet some world store okay
00:35:10
Speaker
So it now becomes a law and order episode where like they go to trial.
00:36:10
Speaker
Why is he wearing a tuxedo? Yeah, he should've worn like a robe. What is going on here? A boxing match to commentate later. This this town has ass backwards.
00:36:24
Speaker
It's like, alright, the judges wearing a tuxedo, the other guys in a leisure suit, like for court. The same corrupt lawyers representing everybody in town.
Political Themes and Corruption in 'China O'Brien'
00:37:03
Speaker
Crystal. I mean, technically she just kicked a bunch of guys and didn't arrest them.
00:37:50
Speaker
I feel like something's going to happen to the dad, right?
00:38:03
Speaker
Also, where was the son? Did the son not want to go help? I don't know if this is son.
00:38:39
Speaker
honest with the switch wait that's a secret like it's like a radio yeah yeah like the bug
00:39:11
Speaker
Is that, like, there? Or did Likner, like, put that in there? I think Likner put it in there. Somehow, Likner's a really good, like, like, licorition. Yeah.
00:39:35
Speaker
It's a good thing we called you a channel, O'Brien.
00:39:57
Speaker
Yeah, she did just leave like a karate school just because she got fired from the cops. That one class she taught a half hour ago. They show up, it's like, there's a site, it's like, move to move to Utah, bye. Well, I mean, there's the other instructor. So yeah, he could have just taught.
00:40:26
Speaker
yeah Don't bring a civilian with you all the time. like I feel like it's what gets her in trouble.
00:40:38
Speaker
Oh my god! That's crazy, dude. Wild. Alright, to be honest, did we all see this coming? We didn't expect like a fucking car bomb.
00:40:58
Speaker
No, I didn't expect her to be brawlessly running horses.
00:41:13
Speaker
It's just like It's like she's like trying to punch her mom. yeah Karate! This kid's on bikes!
00:41:26
Speaker
I lived in the country. who Yeah. You came all the way here. The fire's over here. Look. I was ex-special forces and I ran all the way here.
00:41:55
Speaker
All right. That was like 30 seconds of crying, cool. For your Oscar consideration, Cynthia Rothrock. What?
00:42:18
Speaker
yeah He only has a landline. If he's already on his way, it doesn't work. yeah
00:42:26
Speaker
Oh, he's going to blow up another car how original.
00:42:42
Speaker
it' like oh that was shot too like the other one Yeah, it's like the funeral you're talking about, Adam. do you Do you think that was the same car or did they blow like blow up actually blow up two cars? I think they blow up the same car and filmed two different angles of it and they just reused it. Probably, you're right. But like because they used the same music and then prepped it, I'm like, it's also the same color car. And that's not how like a priest wears the collar either. It's not just a full-length collar. It's a taro neck. It's a white taro neck that they just put like a collared shirt on top of.
00:43:22
Speaker
I like how there's like a motorcycle cop behind him. He's like, I, they didn't do the motorcycles. They just, they just did the cars for some reason. Is he the state motorcycle, like the highway patrol guy? Yeah. Cause there's only, there's only four cops and now two of them are dead or like the three cops, it was like mury's is the only cop left.
00:43:54
Speaker
you guys hear that? we'll be running I out we hear that in the background from yeah yo who's chanting? it's the elote man coming through I thought it was in the movie for a second you have me tripping what the hell neighborhoods wild you you didn't have a you you never had a loate man at at a funeral like
00:44:27
Speaker
and uah i would be more inclined to that i knew
00:44:35
Speaker
Just that dude on the motorcycle I have Mexican street rice Yep
00:44:50
Speaker
Alright, so now this movie becomes like an election political, like, driven drama.
00:45:12
Speaker
Yeah, car bombs aren't a natural, like, occurrence, so obviously someone did this.
Cynthia Rothrock's Run for Sheriff and Small-Town Politics
00:45:46
Speaker
Who's this guy? Is he like the thug guy they deputized? That's Bolo Ty Johnson. Yeah. but I think that was the guy in the beginning of the thing. We got arrested. Now that guy's like a sheriff, a deputy.
00:46:07
Speaker
Yeah, this this is also like has a lot of like walking tall in it. Yeah. Just drinking that milk.
00:46:21
Speaker
so Everyone's drinking milk, I guess. Okay.
00:46:32
Speaker
China. Maybe don't go with China. It's not like it's the 80s still, or like the early 90s. China still wasn't like popular. I wonder how many takes they did of her pouring the milk.
00:46:55
Speaker
So, like I said, now it's a political campaign movie. Yeah. Okay. It's still like- Vote China! Southwest. So funny. It's like, don't call yourself China O'Brien. It's not gonna be like, like the locals are not gonna find that cool. You know, like, oh, China O'Brien. That doesn't sound American. I'm not voting for her.
00:47:24
Speaker
Jack for Sheriff no How long is China been in town like a week maybe two Well, she grew up there. So yeah, I doubt the power of China. But it is kind of funny that like this whole concept due to the fact that like China like literally owns like land rights in in America right now. So yeah, they all apply for sheriff. like They'll buy the sheriff thing.
00:48:09
Speaker
i mean china owns like real estate but they just want like to be landlords they don't want to like change political parties or they don't want to like run for sheriff vote china parade like does she pay for this down oh my god max dollars at work
00:48:34
Speaker
Damn dude how much money did her father leave her? Do you remember this movie started with her shooting a kid and now she's voting to be the sheriff? That sounds like America. I mean this movie is becoming more and more American. And yeah and in the movie they call it they call her America O'Brien or something like that.
00:49:01
Speaker
we love you cynthia rothra and
00:49:16
Speaker
Thanks, Thug. we We kind of knew that. Well, you didn't have to give us that information. Everybody knew it. Is he going to become an integral part of this at some point, or is he just going to be always lurking in the background? I don't want to spoil it for you, but it gets crazy.
00:49:38
Speaker
Okay, this this like is This is a beard. It's gonna turn into a hate gun. The parade went all the way around again. Really soon! Whenever there's an open fire pit, it's never a good sign. Yeah, it's weird to have like a bonfire and circle it with a car when your dad literally just died in an explosion in the car. All it takes is someone to throw a book in that fire and this goes south real quick.
00:50:11
Speaker
Like, I feel some people are joining China O'Brien and they're gonna be like, all right, segregation's back. Like, no, no, her party isn't that. like Remember, this is the sheriff. She's not the mayor. She's not a senator. This is just the sheriff, you know, town sheriff. If I'm elected, free pizza on Fridays.
00:50:37
Speaker
We're gonna kill all the crop officials.
00:50:42
Speaker
We're going to stop car bombs.
00:50:48
Speaker
He really didn't, though. oh at it He really just kind of sat by while she took it away. I mean, the crime was just bothering the lumber mill and the bar, the Beaver c Creek.
00:51:08
Speaker
The fire department is like, we gotta, we have a huge fire out in the middle of the woods. Yeah. It's a bonfire, sir. Classic cops versus firemen situation. So the firemen are the evil guys in this movie? Wow. A good boy.
00:51:35
Speaker
That is such a weird thing to, like, own as a corrupt guy. Be like, yeah, we also own the fire department. but play one way finisher that so like But then the gym teacher can beat the shit out of the department. And we need the fire. It really accentuates our passion. But they can't start the fire. But then Richard Norton does some assault on the local firemen. Yeah! Kill him, Richard Norton!
00:52:08
Speaker
Wow, he got away with that real quick. Killer.
00:52:21
Speaker
Everyone here drives a car, right? Who's that guy? Oh my god, they're, um, Union Busters?
00:52:46
Speaker
cool channel. o'b Brian has a stunt show going on for political guys, putting them in them combo moves. The original is another like um famous martial artist who was like a kickboxer than he became a like a movie guy.
00:53:07
Speaker
Yeah, fuck every high school coach you ever had. You've got a one that had a rally that just kept kicking butt.
00:53:15
Speaker
favorite teacher of the year right there this is a straight-up streets of rage like level everyone's got like fighting moves and it's ready to fight at at every moment soundtrack this needs to be a little bit more techno then
00:53:45
Speaker
This explodes. it's it's a street fair voice level now This is definitely a legal thing to do, right? This reminds me of those self-driving AI cars now that like everyone keeps spray painting them when people are like in them in the passenger seat. There's no drivers. They keep vandalizing when spray painting them.
00:54:27
Speaker
i was the guy whose car just got fucked up in his aldi is he trying to defend the car because he's doing a terrible job yeah terrible job right he let me smash the sweet roundhouse though yeah my car is right with that roundhouse though really early and you let that car take all the beating
00:54:53
Speaker
Again, this is a pretty good political rally. You know, you come in, cheer on the sheriff, watch the sheriff fight
Climax and Resolution of 'China O'Brien'
00:55:36
Speaker
Whoo! She's got my phone!
00:55:44
Speaker
I'm surprised there wasn't a conspiracy guy in this crowd going like, this is all planned. This is all like ah good like a way, a political stunt for her to get votes. We're at that point yet.
00:56:00
Speaker
It was 1990. It's such a pure level of politics at this point. You can just beat a bunch of goons up and then yeah people will vote for you.
00:56:21
Speaker
And her car explodes. She gets killed and Richard Norton is the star now.
00:56:34
Speaker
Pull over, I forgot to put the bomb in your car. This is a rest.
00:57:03
Speaker
That wasn't so much a fight.
00:58:01
Speaker
Why don't you just do this by phone? You didn't have to do this in person. You got to track her down. Get seen in public.
00:58:33
Speaker
We still haven't been like been introduced to that guy's name, right? No. Okay. Also, what are they mailing? because is Is it like the election like in a day? They get the mail-in ballot. She said mail-in flyers out. Help you vote for me. Oh. All right.
00:59:01
Speaker
Yeah, my call is popped.
00:59:11
Speaker
why Why does he continually have to tighten that thing? He doesn't want his nub to fall off.
00:59:33
Speaker
I don't understand why they don't just like confront the guy. Man look at that freshly paved road.
00:59:44
Speaker
you know about roads down there Adam okay they're leading him to another fight scene essentially
01:00:25
Speaker
my name's actually philippines who took johnson soup is really good
01:01:00
Speaker
Okay, this movie's almost over. Now we're getting like the tragic backstory of Dakota.
01:01:27
Speaker
They said she died in some sort of explosion of a car.
01:01:37
Speaker
Was Dakota a businessman? Like what's going on? yeah know like You look so young now. I'm just a Native American looking to develop a drinking problem. what do you do
01:01:58
Speaker
It's her son. Looks just like him. Oh, he still had his hand at this point. Yes, this is going to be like the next word by his hand.
01:02:15
Speaker
I went to go visit my mom, but she became a hooker and then I lost my hand. That makes the story. And then you walked in.
01:02:30
Speaker
Wait, how old is he supposed to be?
01:02:54
Speaker
chop off his hand.
01:02:58
Speaker
You're supposed to be like 20?
01:03:07
Speaker
That literally is when you stomped on his hand. with What?
Reflecting on Movie Strengths and Weaknesses
01:03:42
Speaker
Did she die on a car bomb? Because it seems like that's what they're good at. Yeah, this guy, Mark Summers, he's really he's he's into some real bad shit, like double dick.
01:04:00
Speaker
Another bomb? God, they just have one move. Keep spamming the same attack.
01:04:20
Speaker
Everyone just is going to start walking everywhere. It's such an awkward cut. Yeah. It's it's really like a horror movie. Yeah. Not a living dead or something. They were just standing. They call the neighborhood? What's going on? Why is everyone here? yeah like the gold check netflix yeah The bomb squad. Oh, man.
01:04:45
Speaker
That is definitely an odd cut back into the house.
01:05:00
Speaker
Share the name of the Legma. nice like lida
01:05:52
Speaker
Is this like a James Woods cousin or something? He looks like a James Woods type guy. who
01:06:35
Speaker
Beyond like putting a body in her trunk be funny if the car in the background exploded too Yeah, who is this again? There's like there's like there's like two or three women did look to look the same like the mom birth dakota and like is it
01:07:07
Speaker
patdty or peggy or peggy yeah and then there's just another woman in summer's house who portrait day
01:07:25
Speaker
How big is this county where they need like multiple places? yeah Like, everyone's not voting in one place, like Town Hall or something.
01:07:40
Speaker
Like... Roadhouse came out before this, right? So essentially this is like Roadhouse, but condensed. And somehow involves the police. Because he owns the Beaver Creek, which is like a pie for problems. And then he owns the fire department, the police, the judge.
01:08:01
Speaker
High school? Maybe? I mean, looks like the police is corrupting the high school, so if he owns the high school. How would you like some marijuana?
01:09:02
Speaker
The hell is that necklace? egg looking thing They all look like, you know, medallion and amulet. Mm hmm.
01:09:24
Speaker
Yeah, there's nothing sketchy about. Good to do to do just doing it some lecture fraud to do.
01:09:55
Speaker
Voter fraud! Because you're dead. Now get in your car so we're gonna explode.
01:10:15
Speaker
Well they got there. Where are these guys? Oh my god, yeah.
01:10:30
Speaker
ah Good thing they're fighting on like safety. Yeah, luckily they had their wrestling mats out. That could really go down. The final move is she chucks him into a car and it blows up.
01:10:46
Speaker
now remember everyone she has to pin them so that they get all the points so those political science like students are just watching this yeah what exactly does this mad dude teach
01:11:33
Speaker
Man, Richard Orton's like... He's getting really sloppy in this fight, just like jumping on guys. His form is just going to shit. Yeah. Yeah, yeah. It's not stylish. It's just... Throwing himself at people.
01:11:56
Speaker
Alright, it's in the eryotho, just showing off at this point.
01:12:10
Speaker
That's how nobody's counting the votes at all that's They could have ran out with the voting box right now they're like in another part of the gym Yeah, I mean like even though this fighting is going on like they got there late So they definitely put more votes if the other guy is some shit
01:12:39
Speaker
I was afraid. And likeynth runhar wait like they like they're like, check the box. This is like, well, every every vote for Lichter is a fraud vote. So we're taking them all out. It's a landslide victory now.
01:13:05
Speaker
It's good that this gym also has bo staff training.
01:13:15
Speaker
The sound effects are awesome. I
End Credits and Final Thoughts
01:13:20
Speaker
think Cynthia Rothrock has a belt in Bose Avenue. She's like a weapons expert. Yeah, like forms or something? Yep. Well, this this high school obviously spent all of their budget on that because they don't have enough to have a bench for the bench press. Yeah.
01:13:48
Speaker
It was about to say, dropped away. Oh, they drop it like right on the weight. Oh, no. no
01:14:09
Speaker
Damn. The sound effects for these awaits.
01:14:23
Speaker
Wait, they got a fight?
01:14:42
Speaker
That's because she took out all the power. Yeah, I mean, they only have half of the votes in. They said 50%, right? yeah Her being Sheriff won't bring my mother back. Yeah. Or my hand.
01:15:17
Speaker
Have been going out?
01:15:23
Speaker
China O'Brien, will you be my sheriff? You still have one knee.
01:15:42
Speaker
I gotta to go to more, like, sheriff, like, ceremonies. Seems pretty cool. Uh-oh. That's the judge. Is it? I think. Did he shoot a jar of pickles?
01:15:57
Speaker
Not the watermelon. Wild.
01:16:25
Speaker
How did nobody get hit? Fire's starting! You're right. Ironic, China, Brian goes to Chinese Lantern Fire. Oh no, her mom? Caught in the crossfire.
01:16:48
Speaker
Wait, your mom died, but you still have a hand? but
01:16:58
Speaker
were no was that pecky or whatever name was That was like it well that was like Marie like her mom or dad's girlfriend or something
01:17:31
Speaker
the fifth Did she just deputize a bunch of high school kids? She's got child soldiers now. Alright kids, now you're part of the army. You get a badge, and you get a badge! There is ten minutes more of this movie. How the hell did they just assemble a task force for just like vengeance? We're just gonna go beat up or kill all the bad guys now.
01:18:26
Speaker
There's the budget right here. sir Yeah. All the budget. Oh my God. they They know where the meth house is running in fist first. Yup. These guys are anywhere. Yeah. They're all, but they're all wearing like workouts here.
01:19:03
Speaker
Did the high school teacher quit his job? He's like, I'm a cop now. I don't think it's, I don't think that like demolishing a building is ever within the realm of what a policeman could actually do. It's a myth house, take it down. And now they just bust the brothel house? yep
01:19:28
Speaker
That's the high school kids. Those legit the high school kids. They're like 16 years old. They're cops now. You've earned the promotions. China O'Brien's hired a task force of Ryu teens.
01:20:01
Speaker
You release the car bombs, obvious.
01:20:12
Speaker
I'm surprised, like, termite from the beginning of the movie doesn't just come down. I like how this dude is still on his, like, his dirt bike. Like, who's this, like, bodybuilder guy that you recruited? is so it's like one It's like one of the high school kids.
01:20:31
Speaker
Oh yeah, he's yoked.
01:20:54
Speaker
Oh, that was a word this time!
01:21:18
Speaker
Yeah, I was about to tell you about the shooting from that far away, Jesus.
01:21:26
Speaker
Wait, is she driving on the left-hand side? No, no, no, Richard Norton is. It did definitely look like she just got into the, oh no, the different cars here, right? It was jarring.
01:21:47
Speaker
If that bandana still only takes the helmet off, I'm gonna be amazed. Oh, shit. Yeah. No muzzle flash?
01:22:10
Speaker
Nice. Oh, that looks great.
01:22:14
Speaker
Mostly it's like some sort of like cart or something. You're like it's like odd something. Oh, not the root beer There's been that at this day on Okay Chill out
01:23:03
Speaker
No, no, our high school kids may be beaten up. I like a bunch of ah truckers. Yeah.
01:23:15
Speaker
There's like one honest patron that's just in there for like a drink and he's getting his ass kicked by a bunch of teens. Noice. Those clips aren't sped up at all.
01:23:33
Speaker
Also, for this town, there's a lot of like Asian guys in this like other enemy side. like I know it's like a bunch of stuntmen, but they still don't explain why it's like five Chinese guys in their crew.
01:24:03
Speaker
cover me and reloading I realize now this guy looks like Jimmy Hart yeah
01:24:39
Speaker
Oh, the water jug. Oh, another another Chinese guy that. Why is it glass? Yeah. Well, back in the day, those water jugs were glass. Were they really? Damn. Yep.
01:25:03
Speaker
but Like there's another Asian guy in this crew. It's a pretty diverse crew. Mm hmm.
01:25:12
Speaker
No, this guy's in a business suit, so that that's random.
01:25:31
Speaker
Where did she get these symbols from? She needs to throw a lot of them like a phrase to me. There you go! Woo-hoo! who just I don't think it was ever implied that there was a house band at this place. yeah it so like roadhouse you know yeah jeff healy or whatever
01:26:13
Speaker
Did he? He's not even calling her name. He's just throwing her pieces of China. Yeah, yeah I know. I'm like, was that just a piece of China that happened to be behind the bar?
01:26:29
Speaker
Ghost ride the whip.
Where to Find the Hosts Online and Farewell
01:26:44
Speaker
What? He's getting like Terminator vibes for a second.
01:27:33
Speaker
Honestly, this movie could have just been about Dakota, right? Like, he seems like he's cleaning up the town faster than Cynthia Rothrod. He didn't have to vote to be the sheriff. He didn't have to, like, campaign. Took the law into his own hands. Did that guy kill his mother? like Yeah, he had his own revenge.
01:27:55
Speaker
And he got to the bad guy, like, quicker than China did. I just think there's just not enough mirrors in this scene. Are they doing an enter the dragon scene right here in this like arm or stable?
01:28:36
Speaker
shoot the horse He just gets shot in his other hand so Are we gonna get like a like like a China like kills kill someone but it's like a good kill this time
01:29:04
Speaker
Well, OK. All right. I guess I guess there's absolutely zero action in this last shot.
01:29:18
Speaker
Imagine you heard in the news that your high school like gym teacher arrested the like criminal. Yeah. Mm hmm. You mean that guy that was from in Australia? and The special forces Australian dude. Oh, damn.
01:29:36
Speaker
Oh yeah, that woman. brilliant Yeah, that's what we were all introduced to. She had her own M16.
01:29:58
Speaker
You remember that time I would bow hunting with my father?
01:30:09
Speaker
We all quit. Such a happy ending.
01:30:16
Speaker
You're right. Now he did like the work program where he gets to leave school half a day. you know What did insane work program was this? Just like having to be a deputy for a day?
01:30:37
Speaker
Oh, we're at Faustus. Australian for beer.
01:30:45
Speaker
but That really is the end. That's such a terrible ending. classic freeze frame you know if it ended up like that woman killing the bad guy that would have and then just like cut to like credits that would have been like a perfect like hong kong action movie be ending yeah that is fine but the fact they had a scene of the high school kids like retiring and then they're like let's go get a beer
01:31:14
Speaker
Oh, wait a minute. So all those students were like math students. So again, your high school teacher is just like, come you want to be a cop today? Yeah. I go, I go take down like, yeah, criminal like drug dealers and criminals and like sex traffickers. It's insane. Extra credit for today is Kung Fu fighting. In a CD dive bar. Right? Wait, there was a China O'Brien 2 released in the same year? Yeah. Well, the year after it, I didn't anyone. Wild. Oh, sorry. Released in June. UK identity. Yeah, that's so weird. Matt and Dakota come back. Yeah, everyone's back. Yeah.
01:32:07
Speaker
like again this might be another movie we watch another time because i want to do more insane of the drug torture up robert claus also directed uh... jim kata kata uh... and black belt jones and don't remember game of death force five the big brawl okay okay yeah he just he he gets action i just like the only problem is It's the in-between, the like, ah you know, small things that happened during the, but not but big fights. Oh, he did Game of Death, okay. Oh, he directed that, remember, he directed that Golden Needles movie, Chris? Remember so that trailer where they had to show it on Baker movie, where it's like the, like, weird, like, evil, it's like evil acupuncture or something? Sort of. Oh, yeah, I see it. Golden Needles, yeah, okay. The one who claims the Golden Needles can rule the world.
01:33:08
Speaker
1993. You're right. These are our copies. This was like the VHS rip. Yeah, but this is like a rerelease of a rerelease from Asia 1993. Those came out 1990. All right. That's our copy.
01:33:27
Speaker
I don't know I'm really thinking about buying that vinegar syndrome now just to own this because like again you can't predict this movie from just how it's portrayed even if you maybe see some of the posters of this movie it you can it's like how would you tell this would happen
01:33:42
Speaker
Yeah, I mean, that exploding car kind of caught me off guard. I didn't realize were just going to be like and the second one in the second one. yeah I mean, the second one was like, yeah. But that first one where you're like, you don't really expect the fact that they're going to murder the main sheriff the town in that manner.
01:34:10
Speaker
Yeah, I don't i feel like this is kind of like um lower mid-tiers at the rough rock. Like there's definitely like way better ones. Yeah. Like, undefeatable is is is it say it's awesome.
01:34:23
Speaker
um Like swo I think it's sworn to justice or something. It's sworn to like... late Lady cops were the one we watched. They were like, super cop.
01:34:36
Speaker
Yeah, any any of her, any of her like actual like Hong Kong, I guess Madam is like legitimately awesome. Yeah, yeah, it's definitely something that a Savisher is like, like a one note character. Because you kind of want that you don't want like a political rally in your movie. Marshall Law, that's Marshall Law is an awesome one with David Carradine.
01:35:01
Speaker
But yeah, this is not, this is sort of like a deeper cut to do a rock and rock. I understand that she is all about like karate in her plot. It starts right out on the right foot where she tries to teach that karate lesson. and They never went back to that. Yeah, they never go back. They called that dude cricket or whatever. Termite. Termite and went never went back to that. Never reference that man again in the movie.
01:35:31
Speaker
And he kind of got her in trouble. Yeah. And it's never resolved. But yeah, like again, I saw this movie as a kid. I thought I didn't understand it. And now that we watch it again, some parts I still don't understand as like a creative decision. So who gave the decision to show you that movie as a child? Just my parents. That's the real question that we need to ask. I don't know, man. 99 Cent been a blockbuster.
01:36:01
Speaker
It's something that you definitely don't stumble on by like accident. That's like a choice and ah to suffer through your rental. I'm glad. Like, I'm glad that it's research. Now, if we want to see this get in 4K, it's available.
01:36:17
Speaker
So it's not gonna it's gonna make those car explosions any better. Maybe it's definitely top on my list to watch this movie again in 4k Yes, Chris, that's that's like the first priority out of my life is i always love really yeah After after I watched that movie in completion. I'm like, you know what? I really that will be a lot better at 4k.
01:36:41
Speaker
yeah You can just see when they do movies like that, you'll watch it in 4K and you see how many people are actually just standing around in the background doing nothing. Yeah. It's going to reveal that there's way more extras than we thought. zo They're going to Star Wars it and like add Ewoks to certain scenes and shit.
01:37:04
Speaker
Oh my gosh. ah Yeah, man. um Definitely a great martial arts movie to add to our commentary track. Another successful Chris birthday commentary. Yeah, man, just unpredictable, crazy, probably a little bit of regret. um But yeah, I really appreciate everyone coming out. Of course. ah man Happy a birthday.
01:37:29
Speaker
<unk> Adam, where can people catch more of you online? I don't know, it's just the HADMAN 2315 on Instagram, I guess. Just posting pictures of cats.
