Season Finale Recap & New Merchandise

00:00:10
Global Sports Podcast Network
Hello and welcome to the season finale of Daily Forest at the Global Sports Podcast Network. Joining me, Stuart, for the final time is Marley. Marley, how are you doing?
00:00:21
Marley- EUROPE
I'm doing excellent, as you can tell from the t-shirt I am wearing.
00:00:25
Global Sports Podcast Network
Is that brand new from the club shop?
00:00:26
Marley- EUROPE
After the game,
00:00:26
Global Sports Podcast Network
You went there today or after the game on Saturday or have you got there already?
00:00:30
Marley- EUROPE
they after the game Yesterday evening, these were on sale the club shop, went straight in there and grabbed one off the hangar.
00:00:39
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, that's perfect. um

Post-Game Reactions: Mixed Emotions

00:00:40
Global Sports Podcast Network
So talking about the game, that was the mood in in the stadium. It was celebratory. People were going straight to the club shop to buy their European tour merchandise. So it was still a silver bit of and negativity, a bit of a bit of worry that it was thrown away. was just about a miss missed opportunity for the Champions League.
00:01:00
Marley- EUROPE
It was 50-50. I think there were a lot of fans there who just felt gutted about not getting Champions League football. And you could tell that because they didn't stay around to watch Chelsea celebrate.
00:01:11
Marley- EUROPE
But there were also a lot of fans there who were just delighted to get Europe in general. And you could tell that because they stayed behind to watch the players do a lap of appreciation, sang a lot of Europe again chants and really just enjoyed the moment.
00:01:26
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, really good to hear. So let's we don't want to dwell too much i'm not on the match then. As we said, when we look back at our season in general, the final day against Chelsea is not going to be memorable.

Team Strategy Debate: Hussain-Odoi vs. Anderson

00:01:36
Global Sports Podcast Network
But from the start, would you have started Hussain-Odoi ahead of Dominguez maybe or Hussain-Odoi ahead of Anderson even?
00:01:42
Global Sports Podcast Network
Probably that's what in hindsight I think Hussain-Odoi instead of Anderson which should have been the ah the decision. What was your take when you saw the line up an hour and a bit before kickoff?
00:01:51
Marley- EUROPE
Ponson and Doi should definitely have been starting. There is no question about it. He's been our key player in the key games this season. and We're at home. The best option would just be to go for the game, knowing what's at stake.
00:02:04
Marley- EUROPE
We didn't really do that as such. Chelsea played exactly what they'd have wanted to do, gave us possession of the ball, and just watched us not be able to serve break down their 11 men behind the ball defending.
00:02:20
Global Sports Podcast Network
I mean, the key issue or the key moment in in the first half was Chris Wood's missed chance. you think Chris Wood has just ran out of steam? Hasn't quite been the same since that final international break. So

Champions League Shortfall: Causes and Reflections

00:02:31
Global Sports Podcast Network
in all in all, do you think the reason we didn't make Champions League was because we weren't Champions League team anyway or because there was no January transfer signing?
00:02:41
Marley- EUROPE
I think it's both put together. I think our starting XI is definitely Champions League quality, don't get me wrong. But depth isn't. We needed one or two Champions League level signings in January window.
00:02:52
Marley- EUROPE
We didn't make them. And I think one of our issues this season was Chris Wood. Not that he wasn't good enough, he was great. But I think him going to New Zealand, covering about 50,000 miles in total to play for New Zealand and come back.
00:03:11
Marley- EUROPE
Picking up an injury there has ruined him and ruined his season. He has not been as sharp as he was since coming back. He's missed a lot of sitters. And I just think next season we need a starting level striker who, when Chris Wood is in his patch where he's been on a massive international break, covered a lot of ground, starts instead of him.
00:03:33
Marley- EUROPE
Because Chris Wood hasn't come back.
00:03:34
Global Sports Podcast Network
mean, yeah, that's what what happened yeah just once. i think it was after the November international break. Our first game and back from that was Arsenal away. um Yeah, and that that was the only time Taiwo started ahead of Chris Wood this season.
00:03:49
Global Sports Podcast Network
um And yeah, so you can see there's something new to recognise. But yeah, for whatever reason, that third third number nine didn't come in in in January, which we wouldve would have needed to give Chris Wood a break and give him Chris Wood meaningful competition.

Season's Struggles: Fatigue and Squad Depth

00:04:05
Global Sports Podcast Network
Same thing for the wingers as well. Do you think that Lange maybe has been not off the board as well the last few games? think him and Hudson-Odoi, they both had streaks of form, but all in all, neither of them are 38-game-a-season wingers, so we need, like Man City had in their peak four 25-game-a-season wingers rather than trying to have two 38-game-a-season wingers.
00:04:31
Global Sports Podcast Network
without just because Jutta and yeah,
00:04:31
Marley- EUROPE
I think that... I think, again, that comes from squad depth. Jota and Sosa, they're just not good enough. Even off the bench at this level, like we were having to push Ilanga and Hudson-Odoi play as many minutes as we could because Jota and Sosa couldn't change a game.
00:04:48
Marley- EUROPE
So if we were winning, we would hook them off. But if we were losing a drawing, we'd have to keep them on the pitch and sub one of the full-backs off for Jota or Sosa, or midfielders, simply because...
00:05:00
Marley- EUROPE
We needed those two on the pitch to create the difference. So same with all of our players, really. They've just run out steam. They're just too fatigued and tired to keep it up. They've played too many minutes.
00:05:10
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, interesting mentioned here that the full-back's probably running out of steam as well. i mean, one or two people playing Nico Williams for the goal. i mean, what's happened to Alex Moreno, not even been in the squad for the last few games? Is that because if he played a certain amount of times, his move becomes permanent automatically and we've decided he's not worth a permanent signing? Or do you think, again, Moreno should have rotated with Nico and Olerina more to have had three good full-backs and not two? Or did you not really rate Moreno, come to think of it?
00:05:38
Marley- EUROPE
I think he should have got a bit more game time off a bench. But at the same time, Nico's been so good this season. And Moreno was underwhelming since about November.
00:05:52
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, that's mean, we'll always have the the memory of the of the first Liverpool game. I mean, Nico did, of course, well at left-back in the second Liverpool game. Mo Salah did not score or assist against us.
00:06:03
Global Sports Podcast Network
But no, you're right. its It's certainly been a mixed season for likes of Moreno. Morato probably as well in that category. Some good moments, but ultimately just not quite there to be part of a Champions League qualifying squad.
00:06:16
Global Sports Podcast Network
Final

Gibbs-White Transfer Speculations

00:06:17
Global Sports Podcast Network
thing to say about about the game yesterday. Was it more Gibbs-Whites last in the Garibaldi Reds?
00:06:24
Marley- EUROPE
I don't think so.
00:06:27
Marley- EUROPE
The only two teams linked with him don't you team think him really have been ah Liverpool and City.
00:06:27
Global Sports Podcast Network
So you think it will, yeah.
00:06:36
Marley- EUROPE
Liverpool I don't think will go for him. I think they'll get someone else if they need an attacking midfielder.
00:06:43
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, it will certainly be.
00:06:43
Marley- EUROPE
I think he knows that. I think he knows that he won't really start as much as he'll want to, he'll end up being dropped and stay on the bench like Grealish did. ah so I think he'd actually turn that move down and stay at Forest.
00:06:57
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, it's interesting, isn't it? Because footballers have big egos and a lot of self-confidence.
00:07:01
Marley- EUROPE
yeah
00:07:01
Global Sports Podcast Network
So maybe you'll think, yeah, City didn't work out for Grealish.
00:07:02
Marley- EUROPE
um
00:07:04
Global Sports Podcast Network
It didn't work out for Calvin Phillips. But I'm all givers-white. I'm better than Grealish or Calvin Phillips. I'm going to give it a try anyway. So that's why, I'm thinking it's possible. I mean, I i don't know. what Was he saying goodbye in that lack of honour end of the game, Marley? Or was it not not noticeably that he was acting any different to some of the other players?
00:07:24
Marley- EUROPE
didn't look like it, really. More looked like he was just having fun with his son.
00:07:30
Global Sports Podcast Network
ah goods Good to hear.
00:07:30
Marley- EUROPE
um It kind of... It kind of seemed a bit like a lap of honour where he's like, oh, this is where Daddy plays football, look. and is And all his normal thank you to the fans. If anyone looked like they were saying goodbye, it would have been Ilanga and Dorina.
00:07:47
Marley- EUROPE
Because they ones that really came out of the line, gave a bit more to the fans... I kind of stayed behind a bit.
00:07:54
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yes, very interesting. I mean, well, um take ah Take a quick pause and we'll hear Mark's review of of the season and then we'll talk a bit more about next season, about our excitements for but the Conference League and also our thoughts on who will be playing for us in that competition.

Conference League Qualification: A Milestone

00:08:55
Marley- EUROPE
quite like
00:08:59
Marley- EUROPE
but yeah
00:09:29
Global Sports Podcast Network
Mark's got it right, hasn't he, Mali? We should be celebrating Conference League. It is an achievement for Nussing Forest.
00:09:37
Marley- EUROPE
Yeah, I remember when he said it back in back in September before the Liverpool game. We were like, what? No way. There's no way you just said confidence league for Forrest. Forrest in Europe.
00:09:48
Marley- EUROPE
But it's come true. And it's been a remarkable season. And rearranged the fixtures so that maybe this six wins in a row came at the end and this relegation form was at the start.
00:10:00
Marley- EUROPE
And the city ground would have been absolutely bouncing yesterday. So I think that's the perspective you've got to take on it is the only reason it feels bitter is because of the timing of our poor form.
00:10:12
Marley- EUROPE
But give me Conference League and six games in a row would and a 20-goal-a-season striker and a Golden Glove for the first time out coming outside the Big Six.
00:10:23
Marley- EUROPE
I would definitely have snapped your hand off for that. Probably sent you to a mental asylum.
00:10:29
Global Sports Podcast Network
Or made a promise to wear underpants on your hat, either or. But no, you're completely right. This has been... We need to take take that step back and appreciate that this has been one of the... No, I think... No, not one of the... don't know. I'm going to say one of the best seasons. We can maybe discuss at the end whether...
00:10:47
Global Sports Podcast Network
we enjoyed this season more or the promotion season more in terms of unsurprising, ah surprising, sorry, successes. ah But no, because we'd finished 16th and 17th in the first two Premier League years and that second year to regress and have only stayed up because of that terrible promoted trio of Luton, Burnley and Sheffield United. And completely, we all would have been happy with being hovering between 12th and 14th all season.
00:11:14
Global Sports Podcast Network
And to get Europe, we we do need to, and now there's been a,
00:11:14
Marley- EUROPE
You
00:11:17
Global Sports Podcast Network
a day and a bit since Chelsea, with nothing now. The excitement is. I've seen a lot of people already booking up their hotel rooms in Leipzig for the final in, in a i think it's a year today, even that final in in Leipzig. because There's a lot of people booking their hotels on on free cancellation in Leipzig.
00:11:36
Global Sports Podcast Network
What's your thoughts, Marley? I mean, i'm I was alive when Forestville last in Europe, but I don't remember remember it. You were years away from from being born. So, what how does What does it mean to you as a ah younger generation of fans to see your team qualify for Europe?
00:11:50
Marley- EUROPE
Everything. It means everything. Realistically. It's like... It feels like I've had this same dream for my entire life from the moment I was born to now and that dream has just come true.
00:12:05
Marley- EUROPE
And I just don't know what to think. I don't think I'll actually believe we're in Europe until I hear that anthem belt out loudspeakers at the city ground until I think I've just done it in Football Manager. Because it's that unbelievable to think that Back when I was 10 years old, nine years ago, I was walking up to City Ground in tears because we'd been beaten 2 or 3-0 by Sheffield Wednesday.
00:12:27
Marley- EUROPE
And I thought, and only would I never see Forrest win a game at the City Ground. I would never see a scorer goal. Because back then I could only go where my dad could make it, which was rare because work. And now so, to see us in the Premier League, in the Conference League, playing against teams like Fiorentina, Real Vaticano, it's just unreal.
00:12:48
Marley- EUROPE
Unreal.
00:12:50
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, I think we need to, again, if you look at other promoted teams who have since made it to Europe, I think Villa, they didn't make it back to Europe until their fourth year back in the Premier League. I think Newcastle as well.
00:13:01
Global Sports Podcast Network
Five years since they got promoted to Benitez, it took them to first qualify for Europe. Brighton, it took them five years before they had their just one season in Europe. So to get from being a promoter club to Europe in just three years um is certainly a an achievement that no one's knowledge really matched. Apart

Analyzing European Competition Strategy

00:13:22
Global Sports Podcast Network
from Wolves is Nuno. Nuno and the Wolves, sorry. And they were really big spenders, even in the championship when they were signing the likes of Ruben Neves.
00:13:31
Global Sports Podcast Network
Raul Jimenez and Diego Jota even to play championship football. So they don't really count. People say we spent big, but we just had to improve that squad. Wolves were the ones who were really buying European quality players in the championship. So now I think you've got to say this the Premier League achievement of the last five years, if not more, for Forest to qualify for Europe in only their third season back in in the Premier League.
00:13:55
Global Sports Podcast Network
So how do you think Forest will treat Europe? I mean, the annoying thing about the Conference League compared to even the Europa League is is that playoff to get into the league phase.
00:14:06
Global Sports Podcast Network
So I think that playoff in coming in August, so before the transfer deadline even, that's going to be a huge, huge game to just to ensure we get through that that two-legged playoff.
00:14:17
Marley- EUROPE
I'll give it everything. We know Maranakis wants to make us a giant again. He said that when we got promoted. And honestly, he's already delivered the promise of getting us to Europe quicker than I think anyone wanted to quicker than he even planned on doing it.
00:14:32
Marley- EUROPE
and I don't think he'll be satisfied with we're in Europe. There you go. I think he wants to go far in this competition or even win it. And he wants to be at least Europa League next season. And if I'm honest, it's exciting because we're a club on the up.
00:14:45
Marley- EUROPE
We're only improving. We're already in Europe about three years into a five to ten year project. The only way from here is Europa League Champions League.
00:14:54
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, I think that's important, or it's very good to point out that Maranakis and his passion for football, um because Maranakis is already a conference league winning owner for Olympiakos. He is someone, likes of Chelsea, disrespected the competition. I know they are in the final, but they've made 11 changes to every single game and Cole Palmer didn't even play in it until the quarterfinal, for example.
00:15:20
Global Sports Podcast Network
But Marion Arric, he's shown, he's seen how important and how transformative that win was for his NPR cost teams. He'll absolutely not allow Nuno to make 11 changes for a Conference League game.
00:15:34
Global Sports Podcast Network
He'll be saying, no, no, I'm going to buy you players so you don't need to make 11 changes. you're going to have um a better squad this year and we're going to fight on, fight on four fronts. Molly, you're shaking your head.
00:15:44
Marley- EUROPE
you I think he will make 11 changes between Premier and Conference League. But I think those 11 changes will be from a youth team playing in a Premier League to our first team in the Conference League.
00:15:56
Global Sports Podcast Network
I actually think you'll prioritise that um and you'll may make it clear. Yeah, it's interesting. I mean, we've we've seen all those stats that Villa, Aston Villa, for example, I mean, they've, of course, also missed out on the Champions League yesterday and they, wasn't it until the seventh or eighth Champions League game, if not even, not at all, that they didn't win after the Champions League game. So it would be really, it would be an interesting um want and and an approach I would agree with um,
00:16:23
Global Sports Podcast Network
um prioritise the Conference League because Forest are going to go in staircases from Conference League to Europa League to Premier League then do that by winning the Conference League not by sacking off the Conference League and finishing sixth in the league when the Conference League is qualified for the Europa League because you get fans you get the prestige of a trophy you get the TV money of a lengthy run in the Conference League so yeah i I agree that we really should be going all out to win that Conference League and in Leipzig a year from today
00:16:26
Marley- EUROPE
yeah
00:16:50
Marley- EUROPE
Also, um one thing to point out about the choice of Final Destination. Price pints in Leipzig are about an average of £2.50.
00:16:59
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, I mean, we will click clean up then ah the Nottingham boys on tour in Leipzig in a nice spring day. so yeah, I think that will be, i mean, very interestingly, Leipzig themselves, RB Leipzig, they missed out by a point to even qualify for the Conference League.
00:17:15
Global Sports Podcast Network
um So they missed out having the chance to compete in the tournament that could have been played in the final in their home ground. So we look a bit bit at the qualifiers. i mean, if the teams in the top five leagues in the Conference League It's Forest, Mainz, Strasbourg, Rio, Valeriano and Fiorentina.
00:17:34
Global Sports Podcast Network
So I think if we we're kept apart, it'll be a Forest-Fuorentina final. Because there's are other teams from Germany, Spain and and France. They are teams who've had lucky, good seasons.
00:17:45
Global Sports Podcast Network
um Yeah, so I think it will be should should be a Forest-Fuorentina final. It's been exciting away days to Poland and Lithuania and Norway thrown in for goodness.
00:17:56
Marley- EUROPE
ah You could say we had a lucky, very good season at the same time as that, though. And Valicano and Mainz do worry me at the same time.
00:18:02
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah
00:18:05
Marley- EUROPE
I think they are both more than capable sides, more than capable of beating us if we're not on our game. We just need to build a very good squad, take the game to them, and I hope that we can get one over them.
00:18:18
Marley- EUROPE
I think if we if we start playing well in Europe, especially in the early games,
00:18:18
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah you're right yeah i think that
00:18:24
Marley- EUROPE
the crowd will be unstoppable and it'll be an atmosphere to which you cannot lose. So I think wellll we'll see.
00:18:31
Global Sports Podcast Network
They're the advantages we have over Mainz and Raivo Balacano. We have the city ground atmosphere. We also have Maranakis and the um his budget and his ambition.
00:18:43
Global Sports Podcast Network
Mainz and Raivo Balacano, they're both selling clubs. Remember, it was Mainz who sold as their captain, Mussini Akate, few years ago. um So that gives you and bit of an idea of the type of budget and the type of player Mainz have. Don't get me wrong, Mainz will be good opponents, but I think um If you look at Spurs, for example, getting pressed, Eintracht Frankfurt in the Europa League, Eintracht Frankfurt are the third best team in the Bundesliga, Spurs the 17th best team in England.
00:19:00
Marley- EUROPE
Thank
00:19:11
Global Sports Podcast Network
think that shows the comparative strength between England and Germany. i mean, a lot of people say the Premier League is the best league in the world. It's not not quite a debate for right now, but you can't deny the financial advantages we have over Mainz and Raya Valicano, not to mention...
00:19:30
Global Sports Podcast Network
Jagardens and Iberia 1999 from Georgia, a team I never heard of. um yeah we We should really be going deep into this competition next year.
00:19:40
Marley- EUROPE
I just hope we draw Noah, it's only one man, and I'm pretty sure he died hundreds of years ago.
00:19:45
Global Sports Podcast Network
fifty We'll be going two by two into the city ground for that for that game. and

Upcoming Squad Changes & Homegrown Player Rules

00:19:52
Global Sports Podcast Network
what What do we think going to happen to us in the domestic cups? Do you think we will not bother with the FA Cup or the Carabao Cup? Or do you think we will somehow be able to compete on on forefronts.
00:20:04
Marley- EUROPE
I think Carabao Cup is going to be... Oh well, Carabao Cup, bye bye. But, ah FA Cup, look, if Maranakis is going to have a conference league, as Nuno, go for it.
00:20:15
Marley- EUROPE
Nuno loves the FA alright then, FA Cup, let me go for it.
00:20:22
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, I think it makes sense because the Carabao Cup is first half of the season when we'll be just getting to grips with the Conference League leak phase.
00:20:22
Marley- EUROPE
I think... look
00:20:28
Global Sports Podcast Network
um And then second half the season, slightly fewer European games because there's a bit of a winter break. Then we can, as you're right, push for it in in the FA Cup, see where we are in in January. So, yeah, I think you're probably right there.
00:20:39
Global Sports Podcast Network
The Carabao Cup might be sacrificed, but the FA Cup is still going to be one to one to consider and one to one to push for.
00:20:47
Marley- EUROPE
Yeah, it kind of feels like we just need to make sure i wasra our squad is big enough and strong enough to compete in three competitions. Sack off the League Cup. Focus on the FA Cup, the League and the Conference League in that order.
00:21:04
Global Sports Podcast Network
And talking about the squad, I mean, I think some of the other GSPN podcasts, they'll be having lengthy debates about which players to keep and which players to get rid of. But for Forrest, I think it's clear cut. I think were to ask every single Forrest fan, they'd have the same ah opinions. Get rid of Carlos Miguel, Wayne Hennessy, Willy Bolli, Alex Moreno, keep Alanga Gibbs-White.
00:21:28
Global Sports Podcast Network
Wood, Matt Sales, you've been known for your out there opinions at times that Eric Silva-Morrera, will he win that Ballon d'Or in the next 10 years? Stay tuned.
00:21:38
Global Sports Podcast Network
Is there any player, Marley, who most Forest fans would want to get rid of that you want to keep? Or is there a Forest player most people want to keep that you'd be not be so sad to to see so old?
00:21:51
Marley- EUROPE
I would say not sure about being sold because although I think we should sell a star player for a bit of money because I think there's a few that we can replace without it being too much of a hit.
00:22:04
Marley- EUROPE
I'm not going to mention any names because it would hurt me too much to see most of them go. However, think keep Carlos Miguel.
00:22:17
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, I mean, as I said, i and I think we've said said before, because we're we're going to be short on club-trained players in the homegrown rule, we need to get Carl Darlow as our number three ahead of Wayne Hennessy.
00:22:31
Global Sports Podcast Network
um He's the type of player who I would like to see return to the club. Of course, Matty Cash. would be a dream if Spurs hadn't won the Europa League and Brennan Johnson might have been obtainable.
00:22:42
Global Sports Podcast Network
um But no, as I said, I think Carl Darlow to return ahead of Wayne Hennessy.
00:22:43
Marley- EUROPE
Yeah, and think
00:22:46
Global Sports Podcast Network
And yeah, I mean, Carlos Miguel didn't really impress in the games he was given, but new new nu to the country, Carlos Miguel playing a few games in the Conference League ah early phases and improving his English and improving his ability.
00:23:01
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, and I don't think I'm going rush to kick Carras Miguel out of the club. but you You're right. I think he could deserve at least another shot in in pre-season.
00:23:11
Marley- EUROPE
yeah and i think talking about club-trained, home-grown players. I think it's difficult because not being in the Premier League for that long, we don't have that many of them who are really there for Conference League. I think we need to have six of them.

Marley- EUROPE
So I think that would be, if you're saying Darlow, we'll have Yates, we'll have Zach Abbott. I think Joseph Gardner will probably be put in the squad. After that, we need two more.
00:23:42
Marley- EUROPE
So I'm thinking.
00:23:42
Global Sports Podcast Network
but as As we've said, like knowing Marianakis and his drive success, I think he would, yeah, he would, even ah an Oliver Burke or a Ben Brereton-Diaz, he you might take someone like them. i know that Brereton-Diaz has perhaps burnt his bridges with his Sheffield United spells, but someone like that, I mean, ah is, yeah, another manager or another club would give Joe Gardner half an hour off the bench in in certain Conference League games, but I think Our ambition is slightly bigger than that. And I think we could be seeing, yeah, a Brogdon Diaz or ah Oliver Burke, even Jamal Lassell as the fifth centre-back. Someone like that could be make ah make an impact off the bench, make an impact around the dressing room with their experience.
00:24:27
Marley- EUROPE
I mean,
00:24:27
Global Sports Podcast Network
And yeah, I would expect one or two of those to be to be re-signed.
00:24:32
Marley- EUROPE
i would say we need minimum two players in every position.
00:24:35
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, definitely.
00:24:35
Marley- EUROPE
So, Zach Abbott and Jamala Sells behind Murillo and, what's his name, and Milenkovic, with Carmo, Omar Bamadele and Mr. Tyler Binden, all either
00:24:50
Global Sports Podcast Network
Tyler Bindon, yeah.
00:24:51
Marley- EUROPE
sat behind them or out on loan would be scary, especially since Tyler Bindon is known as the League One Marilla.
00:24:59
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, Tyler Bindon is again, perhaps a victim of that rule. That... of that rule that um the homegrown rule, there's no homegrown limits, then yeah, you can imagine Tyler Bindon would take that ah final centre-back spot in the squad, but because we do need to um have some homegrown players, it probably will be Zach Abbott ahead of Tyler Bindon in that particular role in the squad, which is a good thing. um

Season Highlights and Nottingham Forest's Journey

00:25:23
Global Sports Podcast Network
It's a shame Zach Abbott never got to play in the Premier League, ah started in an FA Cup semi-final at Wembley, but didn't play a minute in the Premier League.
00:25:31
Global Sports Podcast Network
um Would you loan him out or keep him out? would say keep him, Zach Abbott. Keep him around the first team again.
00:25:35
Marley- EUROPE
Yeah, keep him. Actually, I do have a sixth name. I do have a sixth name. If they only need to be in the squad and don't actually have to get any minutes, bring him off his broadcasting and stick Michael Dawson in the squad.
00:25:46
Global Sports Podcast Network
Joe Orrell?
00:25:50
Global Sports Podcast Network
so Dawson. Very interesting. Very interesting. I mean, yeah. I mean, he's certainly still respected ah at the club, respected by the players here. That could be could be another another interesting option.
00:26:01
Global Sports Podcast Network
Just register Dawson.
00:26:01
Marley- EUROPE
Also, Also, if we bring back the likes of LaSalle, Spence, Cash, since they're through our academy, do we still get to sing one of our own at them?
00:26:12
Marley- EUROPE
Or because they left and came back, does that not get sung anymore?
00:26:16
Global Sports Podcast Network
No, i i think I think we've and we yeah go go gone out a bit, seen the world, but realised there's no place like Nottingham. So I think they're still so one of our own, even if they um temporarily... Yeah, I mean, people were seeing it at Joe Worrell at Box Park. um He's one of our own, even though he was he li literally a Burnley player. um don't know.
00:26:37
Marley- EUROPE
True.
00:26:37
Global Sports Podcast Network
I think i think Joe Worrell could be an outside chance to return, actually, as as that as a backup. But he didn't really play at Burnley. He's still homegrown, as you know. um and did a bit of an explosive interview where he criticised Steve Cooper a lot, but he just still seemed to least respect Nuno and love the club.
00:26:52
Marley- EUROPE
Yeah.
00:26:54
Global Sports Podcast Network
So Joe Worrell is a possibility.
00:26:55
Marley- EUROPE
mean I mean, I wouldn't cancel out bringing back a retired player like Lewis McGugan. to just be subbed on in the 97th minute and win a
00:27:09
Global Sports Podcast Network
And what we've seen with James Ward-Prowson earlier this season, that having a free-kick specialist in your squad... doesn't always work out.
00:27:19
Marley- EUROPE
As we saw with Mr Jesse Lingard, having a player who is 85 years old in your squad also doesn't always work.
00:27:27
Global Sports Podcast Network
That's very true. That's very true. Um, so Marley, it's been a ah pleasure doing this podcast in, in the past year. been, um, Great to share some so good moments, some great wildcard Wednesday episodes, some great um previews and reviews and and a great great some great stories you shared as well.
00:27:45
Global Sports Podcast Network
So what would be your highlights of the season, either from the from the podcast or specifically from your years of Horace fan?
00:27:53
Marley- EUROPE
I think from the podcast, it's got to be right the start when we were making our predictions and I predicted the underpants. That was a great one. Or the episode me and you did on Brian Clough when I did my impersonation, which I'm still quite proud of. What would you say? And from the Forest season, I'd say either against West... Of games I've been to, these are going to be.
00:28:16
Marley- EUROPE
3-0 win against West Ham at home or 3-2 win against Manchester United away.
00:28:24
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, special, special moments. For me, my favourite episode is, it's not technically a Forest one, it's the Thomas Tuchel news. It was me, you and and James. I think Mark has sent in a few voice notes. We were all set to do a really good Forest episode. Then literally with half an hour before were about to hit record, Thomas Tuchel news was announced. We did a whole half an hour, could have done five hours just talking about the possibility of what would happen if Thomas Tuchel wins the World Cup for England.
00:28:52
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah, it's interesting to see how that one will will develop, especially with him not having yet picked Gibbs-White. So, yeah, that was...
00:28:58
Marley- EUROPE
He has, he has. He picked his white the other day.
00:29:00
Global Sports Podcast Network
No, no, not to play, not to play. So, he's in the squad still, but he hasn't played.
00:29:02
Marley- EUROPE
Oh yeah, true.
00:29:04
Global Sports Podcast Network
He still hasn't played. So, let's see England v Senegal at City ground in, i think, two weeks, two and a half weeks or so. it's Let's see that if Gibbs-White gets to play in front of, or still for now, at least, his his home fans.
00:29:16
Global Sports Podcast Network
At my moment, um so the best best game I went to was the City... home win, I went to far fewer games than you, but I saw us beat City and Spurs amongst the games I went to. And like you said, those are games you dream of even having as a kid, playing Man City, playing against Spurs, but to see them and beat them and for it not even to be a surprise that we're winning them, that they're the special moments for me that we're going into those games.
00:29:44
Global Sports Podcast Network
ah by the by by the trend, the usual match routine with an expectation that you're going to beat Tottenham or beat Man City. That's what I'm going to take home. that a takeaway from this season.
00:29:55
Marley- EUROPE
Yeah, definitely.
00:29:55
Global Sports Podcast Network
So, any any any final words? Always going to seeing each other on the shores of the continent next summer. Or not next summer, next autumn.
00:30:07
Marley- EUROPE
Come on, you European Reds.
