Introduction to Daily Forest Podcast

00:00:10
Global Sports Podcast Network
Hello, welcome back to the Daily Forest podcast here at the Global Sports Podcast Network. Joining me, Stuart, is Marley. Marley, I can see your name tag here. It says Marley K. Sarra. Sarra. How are you doing?
00:00:23
Marley_ QUE SERA
I'm doing really well Stuart really excited for what is to come on Sunday and I can only imagine what the atmosphere is going to be like not just in the ground but around it as well before the match and after if we win so hope to high belief hmm
00:00:40
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, but then let's see. let's see let's um but Before we go fully into previewing the match, and as said, your Wembley day out, let's quickly talk about Monday

Review of Recent Game vs Spurs

00:00:50
Global Sports Podcast Network
night. We last spoke Monday morning with James when we previewed the Spurs game.
00:00:55
Global Sports Podcast Network
got to a good 2-1 win. and It didn't quite go how we planned. Harry Toffolo wasn't in your contacts starting 11, but were you happy with with how that game went on Monday?
00:01:08
Marley_ QUE SERA
Delighted, yeah. Harry Toffolo was outstanding, realistically. He played so well, dealt so well with the wingers. And should we even get start getting into that goal line clearance, he made exceptional, acrobatic, amazing.
00:01:24
Marley_ QUE SERA
off And yeah, his he's been limited to cameos recently. It's his first start since May 2024. Straight out of the block. really well. He definitely earned himself a place at Wembley.
00:01:36
Marley_ QUE SERA
Definitely earned himself a place at Wembley.
00:01:39
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, I think it was a good team performance. It was classic after those couple of matches were disappointing. They were disappointing in results. Villa and Everton, it was great to go back to Nuno performance, taking the early lead, an early two-goal lead this time.
00:01:54
Global Sports Podcast Network
It Chris Wood getting his second goal, on the second attempt after that offside.

Team Strategy and Future Tactics

00:01:58
Global Sports Podcast Network
And yeah, then we sat back and bought brought Moreto on early. Was it surprise came on at half-time was that sort of necessary based on the threats Tottenham still had?
00:02:06
Marley_ QUE SERA
It wasn't surprising at all. here We needed him realistically. Tottenham were battering us. They were pummeling down on us. We were very, very lucky that our best defender happened to be Richarlison that first half.
00:02:21
Marley_ QUE SERA
So, yeah, bringing on that third centre-back really shored things up, made sure that we were ah a lot more solid defensively. And it it seemed to kind of work because we saw a lot more chances in that first and that second half.
00:02:32
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, do you think it was also a good idea to have either Ilanga or Hudson-Odoi on the pitch? Of course, they were never on the field on on the same time on Monday. Is that something we we might be seeing more from Nuno in these crunch times?
00:02:43
Global Sports Podcast Network
Just having one attacking winger and then one defensive winger, whether that be Danilo or Dominguez or even Anderson on the other side. is that unbound Does that give us an unbalanced attack or is it necessary when we're playing the these big, big crucial matches?
00:02:53
Marley_ QUE SERA
ah
00:02:57
Marley_ QUE SERA
right yeah It's a mix because it's good because it means we've always got that one winger who can help us defend if the other team gets a quick counter-attack. But at the same time, Hodgson-Odoi does that anyway when we're playing both of them.
00:03:12
Marley_ QUE SERA
And Hodgson-Odoi is such a key focal point as well as the fact that sometimes it can look difficult when we're trying to attack but we can only go down one side because we've only got one winger on the pitch. So...

Team's Past Performances and Player Contributions

00:03:22
Marley_ QUE SERA
I think at times it can be a good tactic to use, but it's not necessary all the time. And I would hope to see us playing both of them more regularly.
00:03:30
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, agree. I think certainly our best run of the season, that run between, what was it in November and February, really, when we were, was it seven wins or eight wins in a row, even in all competitions have been through that Luton Cup game.
00:03:42
Global Sports Podcast Network
That was mainly achieved with both. I think Hudson and Adore and Nalanga started together in all of those games. I need to go back and and confirm that, but I think they did. So you're right, I think. Yes, it is attacking and Nuno is not necessarily known for his attacking football, but you're right with Hasan Adoy.
00:03:58
Global Sports Podcast Network
He does contribute defensively and Alanga is so useful as that out ball for someone trying to find him, then find Chris Wood.
00:04:05
Marley_ QUE SERA
Yeah.
00:04:06
Global Sports Podcast Network
We're happy to see Chris Wood back on the score sheet. It had been over two months

Key Player Discussions: Chris Wood and Elliot Anderson

00:04:10
Global Sports Podcast Network
since his last goal. He missed a couple of games, of course, but I think it's crucial that he was back on the score sheet ahead of Wembley.
00:04:17
Marley_ QUE SERA
Yeah. they Delighted to see him scoring the goals again. and he's He's off for charts for the Golden Boot now, really, but it was nice see him in the race earlier in the season. He's our bagsman. He's our talisman.
00:04:27
Marley_ QUE SERA
Our new Lewis Grabben, if you will. So it's important that he's scoring goals. We have managed to find goals from elsewhere, but If we want to start putting them away and start putting teams to bed, we need him up and firing and he's backfiring now.
00:04:39
Marley_ QUE SERA
And by the way, I think we did play two wingers in most of those games in that running. But a few games we started Jota Silva. I know especially we definitely, I think we started him against ah Manchester United at least.
00:04:52
Global Sports Podcast Network
No, you're right. That was at the start of that run. Of course, the Langer regained his place after his winning goal or winning performance or not winning goal scoring. So, no, he did score the winner against Villa.
00:05:03
Global Sports Podcast Network
Langer at home, certainly. And then Spurs are at home as well. So, yeah, you're right. We did start that run with Jota having his brief run in the team. um And then Ilanga regained his place with those goal or assist every game run that he he went on around that time of year. you're right, that was the start of the blossoming of Ilanga into one of the key, one the best attacking players in the whole Premier League.
00:05:27
Global Sports Podcast Network
Elliot Anderson on Monday, he scored only his second goal for Forrest. You have mentioned the goals have come elsewhere, which they have. The fact that still Milenkovic has scored double the amount of goals as Elliot Anderson this this season. Should that be something for Anderson to work on going into next year, which will be his second second full season as a starting Premier League player?
00:05:46
Marley_ QUE SERA
I don't think so. I think Elliot Anderson's job isn't goal scoring. His job is driving forward, battling in the midfield, creating the chances, stopping the other team, creating chances. Milenkovic's job is to be that tall Serbian guy in a box at corners, and he's worked so well as that.
00:06:03
Marley_ QUE SERA
That's where his goals have come from. I don't think Anderson needs to add goals, but particularly I think could he could do with being a little bit more clinical, because I know he doesn't really shoot and when he does it doesn't normally go in.
00:06:15
Marley_ QUE SERA
But I don't think it's an urgent thing he needs to work on. I just think he should work on it, because he hasn't got much else to work on.

Player Evolution: Tyrone and Team Tactics

00:06:23
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, i mean, that's true. He is still still yeah a young player and it it is very, very fortunate. He is still great at everything else. That what he needs to work on is is only goal scoring. as you say, we haven't, um I mean, yeah, Dominguez hasn't scored but all season either. So we, because of the goal threats from Einer and Milankovic, Yates has got a few, but Gibbs-White, Ilanga, Hudson-Doy have consistently scored five or six each this season, which supporting Wood, it means we do have a a functioning, functioning attack.
00:06:52
Global Sports Podcast Network
Um, Tyrone, that's his role now, the last few minutes, just to make a nuisance of himself. He's, he's not going to be trusted to start or be scoring goals. He's just that option as a big man, big man to be awkward, really, which he did well, which he did well on Monday.
00:07:08
Marley_ QUE SERA
Yeah, I think when we first got promoted to the Premier League, he was a quality player. He looked really good. He was scoring goals. But I do think overall his level, his role, where we are now is what he's being becoming. He's not really recovered from his injury as well we'd hoped he would.
00:07:25
Marley_ QUE SERA
A bit like Joe Lolly did back then. And I just think coming off the bench, he's big, he's physical, he's quick. He's a good option to have to come on hold the ball in the corner, ruffle some feathers and see the game out rather than starting and hoping he scores because he just isn't the same player anymore.
00:07:45
Global Sports Podcast Network
and what he needs and is he needs a pre-season. Because in our pre-season training camp in Spain, start of this season, which ah many people credit with being Nuno spent those two weeks in the baking Spanish heat, really drilling in his methods to the players. Tyra wasn't there. He had that family issue.
00:08:01
Global Sports Podcast Network
So I think if Tyra had been there this summer, then who knows, maybe he might have even started the season because he might have scored an extra goal in a friendly that word didn't, or he might have impressed more in that training camp.
00:08:02
Marley_ QUE SERA
Oh, yeah.
00:08:11
Global Sports Podcast Network
So I hope for Tyra, whether it's for Forrest or whether it's somewhere else, And he gets a full preseason. There's no point in him sitting on the bench throughout preseason and getting a move on August deadline day, which means, again, he's not at a preseason. Then he'll take the whole next season as well and his new club trying to get up to speed. So if he is to leave us, for his sake, I hope it's 1st of June he leaves and not 31st of winter.

Journey to Wembley: Plans and Expectations

00:08:34
Global Sports Podcast Network
He then spends another season perhaps on on the sidelines.
00:08:37
Marley_ QUE SERA
Yeah. I mean...
00:08:39
Global Sports Podcast Network
Okay, so we'll quickly play the first ad and then Marley, want to talk about your plans for the day out at Wembley a general in general and then we'll come to the match yourself.
00:08:40
Marley_ QUE SERA
mean
00:08:48
Global Sports Podcast Network
I think we're all interested in the day out first. We'll be back in 30 seconds.
00:09:31
Global Sports Podcast Network
Okay, so Marley the game on Sunday, 27th April, 4.30pm kickoff Wembley Stadium, Manchester City versus Nottingham Forest. Talk to me about your your day. What time will you be setting off from home and how will you be getting to London?
00:09:48
Marley_ QUE SERA
So I'll be leaving in the house at 9.30 on Sunday morning.
00:09:53
Global Sports Podcast Network
Okay.
00:09:53
Marley_ QUE SERA
And obviously there's been a load of chatter about East Midlands Rail and the rail routes from Nottingham to London, which aren't that quick anyway. They have a lot stops. They're not that direct.
00:10:05
Marley_ QUE SERA
So me and my dad will be driving up to Grantham to catch a train, which is a direct route straight down to London. Much quicker, much easier. I'll have my earphones in listening to my purpose-made playlist. We'll get off at King's Cross.
00:10:19
Marley_ QUE SERA
We'll catch the Tube across the Wembley way. Get off the Tube. drink drink drink drink Drink, drink, drink, drink, go into Wembley. Hope that we win. Drink, drink, drink, drink, drink. drink drink Tube to King's Cross.
00:10:32
Marley_ QUE SERA
Trade to Grantham. Drive home.
00:10:34
Global Sports Podcast Network
Well, hopefully not drive home unless your dad is not going to be joining you in the in the drink, drink, drink part of it. Or maybe you can have one or two you might have to jump in a taxi. I'm not sure how far you live from Grantham, but no, it sounds like ah and what a lot of people are doing is going to Grantham because of the the issues with East Midlands Railways. I mean, fair enough, you can understand East Midlands Railways, they knew Tarby and Leicester were not going to be in the FA Cup semi-final weekend. So they knew they could do their engineering works this weekend.
00:11:03
Global Sports Podcast Network
without Derby or Leicester being troubling the capital, but they could have foresaw on. Maybe, just maybe, Forrest could have been in that in that semifinal. No, it sounds interesting. I've heard a lot lot of fans are doing that way, so I'm sure to be a lively atmosphere on that train. Have you reserved seats, or is it going to be a bit of a free-for-all at Grantham, do you think?
00:11:21
Marley_ QUE SERA
I believe my dad has reserved us some seats.
00:11:23
Global Sports Podcast Network
Okay, so at least you've got some to sit, and a few cans on the train or with drinking style once you're at Wembley away.
00:11:30
Marley_ QUE SERA
I don't think my dad wants to drink on the train. I will be taking a can.
00:11:35
Global Sports Podcast Network
Very good, very good. And so have you planned a pub route I've seen on various social media pages and Forts of Garibaldi, places like that? There are a few recommended forest pubs. ah But what when we spoke off camera before recording on on Monday, you said you were wanting to sample two or three just to really get the most out of the atmosphere.
00:11:53
Marley_ QUE SERA
ah Yeah, I mean, my dad's saying his mate's going to be there and will probably be in one of the designated pubs, so he'll probably go to meet him. Me personally, I would love to sample a few pubs, a Wetherspoons, a local pub and a designated forest pub just to see what they're all like, what the beer's like, because you don't get to go to Wembley area of London that often.
00:12:14
Marley_ QUE SERA
But I'll just see what I end up doing, I guess. I mean, I'll try and meet up with someone, one I think, because I'm going to so long. It's such a long time that I'm drinking for. I'm going to try and meet up with someone. and You know, i go to a pub, meet up with my mate and chat to him and just see who wants to meet up, where they want to meet up.
00:12:31
Marley_ QUE SERA
Try that pub out. Maybe go to another one with them. Who knows?
00:12:36
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, so based on those time, you probably want to be at Wembley way about 12.31ish, probably, based on the time you've got down from Grantham then on the Tube up to Wembley. So you've got a good couple of hours, then what time you think you'll be heading into the stadium?
00:12:53
Marley_ QUE SERA
I reckon normally for Forest, I head to the stadium half an hour before kickoff. bal With it being Wembley and everything, I reckon an hour before kickoff. Half an hour or 45 minutes in the concourse.
00:13:03
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, I think I remember in the in the playoff final, um yeah, we went, we were drinking in a Premier Inn on Wembley Way. I'm not not quite sure why we chose that. We running late, but then we went there to join join the queue. And yeah, we had very lively concourse, all the Forest Songs, bumped into some our old friends from school, people we hadn't seen in years. It was a nice meeting point not on that concourse.
00:13:26
Global Sports Podcast Network
um Yeah, then we got one drink, which of course we had to drink in the concourse. We couldn't take it the stands with us, but no, we were certainly and the seats at least half an hour pour kickoff because of course as you remember from the profile yourself designated forest part where they played my luintare was about twenty minutes before kickoff because of course and he had to do all the sponsors messages and the play final protocol so we couldn't come out of the tunnel to our usual prematch play list like like we could do normally Do you think psychologically it'll be different being at the other end of Wembley than we were for the playoff final?
00:13:59
Global Sports Podcast Network
Or because all the players will be different, apart from Harry Toffolo, who was on the opposite team last last time? I think Ranjit is suspended, so he won't be playing. So different players, that's a superstition about not being at the same end. Won't be a problem, or do you think we'll be playing on the fans' mind that we're not in that same end as we were in May 2022?

Wembley Match Preparations: Seating and Outfit Choices

00:14:20
Marley_ QUE SERA
Won't be a problem, no. A wall of red is all that's needed and it's what we're going to provide on Sunday. It'll be a massive, thick, well, intimidating for City, wall of red. And do remember, Forest have sold all their tickets and some.
00:14:34
Marley_ QUE SERA
City haven't.
00:14:35
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, i mean, I think it'll be like that Huddersfield game where there'll be a few a few Forest fans suddenly remembering they had a Leeds postcode or a Huddersfield postcode that you needed to buy a ticket in the Huddersfield end on that on that famous day. so yeah, if you're Forest fan, you haven't got your ticket get yet, go on to the City website um and yeah, there they are still some available. I think it's separate issue and that may be FACO semi-finals shouldn't be at Wembley, but I think that's another story for Another time as at Forest. So starved of Wembley action. I don't think any Forest fan, even if they might prefer the traditional route of FEC Cup semi-finals at Villa Park or Old Trafford.
00:15:15
Global Sports Podcast Network
I think for the occasion you guys will be having on Sunday and me, unfortunately, watching either from home or at the pub. It was so sure to be a massive occasion painting that stadium stadium red. So...
00:15:28
Marley_ QUE SERA
yeah
00:15:28
Global Sports Podcast Network
so So what what do you think um about the, what are you what you wear wearing? I know there's a campaign to bring a red scarf. You're wearing Forrest shirt from the first Premier League year now. Do you already have your shirt for the game planned or what's your outfit going to look like?
00:15:45
Marley_ QUE SERA
I'm going to be 100% completely honest with you. I haven't got a clue. I've got the home shirt. From the 2020-2021 season, which was an awful season, we had Filip Gravinovic on loan, we had Anthony Knockhart on loan, Harry Arter was a starter, we had Luke Freeman on the wing.
00:16:04
Marley_ QUE SERA
We've got that shirt, which I wore to Wembley in the play-off final. We've got this shirt, last season's home shirt, this season's home shirt, and two retro shirts to pick between.
00:16:16
Marley_ QUE SERA
And it's going to be very, very difficult. I'm going have to search for some advice, I believe. I mean, scarf-wise, I have never been to a Forest game without wearing my trusty red scarf and I'm not going to start on Sunday.
00:16:31
Marley_ QUE SERA
And I shall also be wearing a bucket hat. It's one of the retro bucket hats from the club shop. It's, you remember that yellow away kit we had before I was born? ah and The controversial one, people can't decide if they like it or not.
00:16:40
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yes.
00:16:45
Marley_ QUE SERA
It's that kit's pattern as one side and the other side is red with the Forest logo in white all around it. So I will be wearing that. in fact too
00:16:54
Global Sports Podcast Network
Perfect. See it. See it. If you're seeing this in the comments, be be sure to write down whether what shirt Marley should be wearing, whether that's the One of the more recent shirts he mentioned this year's shirt or perhaps one of the retro shirts and will go best with Marley's nice retro yellow bucket hat. So as said, let us know in the comments, what should Marley wear at Wembley?
00:17:18
Global Sports Podcast Network
And remember, we are just a few games away from Marley doing a podcast wearing his underpants on his head.
00:17:24
Marley_ QUE SERA
Oh, my Jesus Christ. Yeah, you had to bring that up, didn't you, Stuart?
00:17:30
Global Sports Podcast Network
I know it's coming that time as we said you you made that product that prediction in jest Mark predicted we make the conference league also in jest both but should come true um and yeah I'm sure we'll do plenty more podcasts show with our road road to Europe
