Speaker: What's up, Classy Crew?

Speaker: Welcome to episode five of Classy on Occasion.

Speaker: On today's episode, Julie and I are going to share with you some leaps of faith that we've taken in our lives that in some cases impacted us in a really big way, both personally and professionally.

Speaker: So we're excited to share with you guys.

Speaker: We look forward to what you think on the other side.

Speaker: Hello.

Speaker: Hello.

Speaker: Hi, friends.

Speaker: Oh, man.

Speaker: We're having hair technical difficulties.

Speaker: It's not a thing.

Speaker: I found a lucky penny this morning, though, so.

Speaker: I love that.

Speaker: We're off to a great start.

Speaker: Hi, everyone.

Speaker: We are excited to be here again, catching up on the last couple weeks.

Speaker: I'm busy over here.

Speaker: I'm actually staring at it right now.

Speaker: So my six-year-old is obsessed with chess.

Speaker: Miss Frances, her, thankfully, my husband knows how to play because I do not.

Speaker: So I'm also in the process of learning.

Speaker: And can I tell you that it's a lot easier to learn things as from a six-year-old's perspective than an adult's perspective?

Speaker: Yeah.

Speaker: We just overanalyze everything, I think.

Speaker: And she's super smart in getting it.

Speaker: So that's been a lot of fun.

Speaker: Amazing.

Speaker: Can I just tell you, my son tried to teach me and I'm not afraid to admit, well, maybe I'm a little bit afraid to admit, but I'm like, wait, it's way too much.

Speaker: Remember, what does the night do?

Speaker: And one can go diagonal and one can go up to an over one or is it over to an up?

Speaker: I'm like, oh my God.

Speaker: I need a cheat sheet.

Speaker: My brain can't.

Speaker: I just can't.

Speaker: It's too much.

Speaker: It's a lot.

Speaker: It is.

Speaker: But I'm just I just am in awe of her.

Speaker: I'll have to show you her little picture.

Speaker: Like she came down in the morning.

Speaker: It was like, I'm ready to play.

Speaker: I'm like, oh, my gosh.

Speaker: So we're taking donations for chess camp.

Speaker: Go fund me.

Speaker: Go fund me, Frances Chess Camp.

Speaker: And then I just want to shout out.

Speaker: I'm enjoying this delicious cup of coffee right now.

Speaker: I was very fortunate on our retreat to meet Sweet Emily, and she's the owner of a Sulon Collective in Nashville.

Speaker: So I'm a little jealous that Heather has the opportunity to have her coffee a little bit more readily available.

Speaker: But she does have an incredible subscription service.

Speaker: So you can have the single origin whole bean coffee.

Speaker: It's from Guatemala.

Speaker: It is amazing.

Speaker: It's so good.

Speaker: This one's sweet cinnamon honey chocolates, red cherry honey crisp apple.

Speaker: That's a lot of words, but sounds delicious.

Speaker: So good.

Speaker: But I also love that her message is just bringing people together through conversation and coffee.

Speaker: So if you see her in person, you get a really cute conversation starter question, but there's also one on the back of the bag.

Speaker: So this one is, if you could share a cup of coffee with anyone, who would it be?

Speaker: So I'm going to answer it.

Speaker: For me, it would be my grandmother.

Speaker: Especially right now, like having such an adult relationship with my mom as I'm going through motherhood, I'd love to pick her brain about how

Speaker: her journey was through motherhood, raising my mom, you know, like, um, just having that perspective.

Speaker: So, Oh, I love that.

Speaker: Who would you have?

Speaker: Anyone?

Speaker: I'd really want to think about it.

Speaker: But when you said your grandma, I was thinking someone that was alive, but if I could go and have one with my mom, who's not, who passed away a while ago,

Speaker: When she passed away, Wade was three, who's now 22.

Speaker: So obviously I've learned so much through motherhood and on these years since she's been gone.

Speaker: So I'd want to really talk to her and just tell her I'm sorry.

Speaker: I mean, I really would want – I've learned so much from being a mother, and I'm like, I'm so sorry I was such a shit so many times.

Speaker: I'm so sorry that I blamed you for stuff.

Speaker: And I would want to talk to her just because I want to –

Speaker: to be able to tell her I'm sorry and I love her.

Speaker: She knew I love her.

Speaker: She knew I love her, but I would never love her.

Speaker: And she knows you're sorry.

Speaker: Oh, I know.

Speaker: But I could think about that some more because there could be lots of people.

Speaker: We've seen one is very stressful.

Speaker: I feel very overwhelmed right now.

Speaker: I have to pick one.

Speaker: There you go.

Speaker: So I guess ask yourself this question every morning, but go follow Emily.

Speaker: Yeah.

Speaker: Like I said, no matter where you are, you can enjoy her coffee.

Speaker: But thank you, Emily, for sharing your message with us.

Speaker: Yeah.

Speaker: She's a special, special, special person.

Speaker: You guys, I love what she's doing and she's doing it.

Speaker: She's so passionate.

Speaker: So in her coffee, I will tell you, she made it for us at the retreat was delicious.

Speaker: So definitely support and follow her.

Speaker: Good.

Speaker: Thanks, Emily.

Speaker: We're going to leap in today's episode.

Speaker: And she snorted, yes.

Speaker: Julie is a snorter.

Speaker: So we're talking about leaps.

Speaker: Leaps.

Speaker: It was hard for me when we were kind of chatting about this before.

Speaker: I was like, what's a personal leap?

Speaker: I actually took one this morning.

Speaker: Took a big personal leap.

Speaker: So fitness has not been, I'm not an athletic person.

Speaker: I played a little soccer and growing up, but I very much 30 years ago.

Speaker: But I very much like as a teenager, like had that kind of worker's heart and I was like, get me into a job.

Speaker: I want to earn my own money.

Speaker: I want to get out into the world from that aspect.

Speaker: So finding this gym three years ago,

Speaker: I didn't know like how much I needed mentally fitness in my life.

Speaker: And this morning I somehow was, it was 5am and I was convinced by, I was delirious maybe.

Speaker: I was going to say.

Speaker: Convinced by the girls in my gym to sign up for this level up competition in April.

Speaker: So I've got just over, you know, six, seven weeks to prepare.

Speaker: So yeah, I was like, you know what?

Speaker: I'm just going to do it.

Speaker: Why not?

Speaker: Why not?

Speaker: And I kind of immediately had – I said why not and then I immediately was like, there's girls in here that are more experienced and they're in better shape and they have more endurance.

Speaker: And I was like, what?

Speaker: Okay.

Speaker: You're still going to have fun training.

Speaker: You're going to get stronger.

Speaker: Just do it.

Speaker: So I very quickly silenced all those negative thoughts.

Speaker: But

Speaker: yeah, huge personal leave this morning.

Speaker: So I'll share my journey with you guys.

Speaker: I'm so proud of you.

Speaker: I feel like you're always trying to challenge yourself.

Speaker: And I love that about you.

Speaker: And those are all leaps.

Speaker: You've taken so many leaps, which I know we're going to get into.

Speaker: But there are so many reasons why you could have said, I can't.

Speaker: I have two young kids, one of which is still a baby, right?

Speaker: I work a lot of hours.

Speaker: I have a husband and family.

Speaker: And there's no way I can do it.

Speaker: There's all the reasons why you could have said, that's not, I can't.

Speaker: And yet you said, why not?

Speaker: And I am.

Speaker: Yeah.

Speaker: I will say my final kind of push is the night before I was talking to my husband about it, Stoney.

Speaker: And I said, you know, they're kind of, you know, keep getting in my ear.

Speaker: Like you haven't signed up yet.

Speaker: Are you going to sign up?

Speaker: And I said, so, you know, if I sign up, you have to make me like a big tacky poster, you know, to cheer me on.

Speaker: And I'm going to cry right now.

Speaker: And he was like, well, there will be three posters and my little 18 month or 19 month old now will be holding one.

Speaker: And I'm like, oh my gosh, my girl's like watching me do something hard.

Speaker: And that's really cool to be able to show them that they can do hard things in their life.

Speaker: I mean, it's something small, but it felt really big when he said that.

Speaker: Yeah.

Speaker: I love Stoney, aka Shybro.

Speaker: Shybro.

Speaker: We probably should explain that.

Speaker: I don't know.

Speaker: I think we should leave it alone.

Speaker: We'll put you guys in later.

Speaker: Try to figure it out.

Speaker: We'll see.

Speaker: If anyone can guess, put it in the comments on our podcast.

Speaker: Little hint.

Speaker: I have it too.

Speaker: I love Stoney.

Speaker: He is great.

Speaker: So what's a, what's a personal leap you've taken Heather recently, not recently.

Speaker: Oh, so many.

Speaker: I know.

Speaker: No.

Speaker: Um,

Speaker: More recently when I agreed, when Tammy Osborne asked me to do the retreat, I have done some workshops before and I loved them, but I haven't done them in a long time and had a lot of life transition since my last one.

Speaker: So when she asked me, and it was coming up pretty quickly, I looked at her and I was like, yeah, I'll do it.

Speaker: Yes.

Speaker: And I'm like, oh, shit.

Speaker: Here we go.

Speaker: So that was, I mean, I love doing them.

Speaker: So I don't know how much of a leap of faith it was, but it kind of was throwing me back into a platform that I haven't been in in a while.

Speaker: So that was certainly, I would say, to some degree a leap.

Speaker: And it's so cool to see you.

Speaker: I've obviously seen you in a...

Speaker: physical, like being around people physically, um, in a coaching kind of environment.

Speaker: And I know how much pressure you put on yourself and how much prep you put, like you pour your heart into it, leading up to it.

Speaker: Um, and then it's so seamless when you start speaking and you are very clear with your message because it's all coming from your heart.

Speaker: Like

Speaker: It flows so perfectly.

Speaker: But I also see all of the work that you put into it beforehand.

Speaker: Thank you.

Speaker: Because I'm like going, oh, I could have done so much different.

Speaker: But it's true that when you do something that fires you up, that you're on fire about, it's a lot of work, but it doesn't feel like work.

Speaker: Right.

Speaker: So that was certainly a leap.

Speaker: When I opened up, I was telling you earlier, when I opened up the fitness franchise back in 2014, made the decision to do it.

Speaker: I was a single mom at the time with two young boys and to make that kind of investment and owning a business, albeit a franchise, which certainly was very intentional, right?

Speaker: Not just trying to do it from scratch.

Speaker: Right.

Speaker: But that was super scary.

Speaker: And that was a big leap because I was putting really...

Speaker: you know, all of our eggs in one basket from a financial, um, situation.

Speaker: And I was scared, but I'm like, I felt it in my gut.

Speaker: I'm like, I can do this.

Speaker: I can do this.

Speaker: And not only did it support me and the boys financially, it absolutely, um, changed my life and, and really helped me discover my purpose, which was, um,

Speaker: feeding into people.

Speaker: And in turn, they were fueling me.

Speaker: I thought I was servicing them and I was servicing them outside of just physical, like giving them a platform to come physically exercise.

Speaker: But how many of us, especially women, really all go through so many of the same emotions and have the same questions about our self-worth and go through difficult times.

Speaker: And I just loved...

Speaker: I loved being with them every day.

Speaker: Now I'm going to cry.

Speaker: I mean, I just loved when they walked in my studio, you can ask a lot of my members.

Speaker: I just lit up and I just got to talk to them and be with them and help them realize that they're special too.

Speaker: And how that fueled my heart.

Speaker: It was huge leap, scary, but one of the, one of the best decisions I've ever done in my life.

Speaker: Right.

Speaker: And that goes into like comparing what your kind of financial risk reward looks like.

Speaker: And then when you stripped out away,

Speaker: the value on everything else, right?

Speaker: The taking, um, I've been in my position at this, at I love kickboxing for three years.

Speaker: I think this month, I think it's this month.

Speaker: Um, and you know, thankfully it led me to you.

Speaker: Um, huge, like how do I put a price tag on that?

Speaker: Um, but when, you know, you called me and you were like, Hey, come work with me.

Speaker: I was like, maybe, I don't know.

Speaker: I'm like, oh, you will.

Speaker: I'm going to find a way.

Speaker: And then looking back, I cannot believe it's been three years.

Speaker: That's insane.

Speaker: But looking back, not only meeting you, I mean, that's no price tag, but the amount of professional and personal growth that I've experienced.

Speaker: Like, I don't think –

Speaker: I would be as committed in my fitness journey.

Speaker: I don't think I'd be as committed professionally.

Speaker: And then obviously all of those, all of those things,

Speaker: attributes that I've been able to gain just trickle down into everything in my life.

Speaker: Everything.

Speaker: The way that I feel my body.

Speaker: I mean, it's wild.

Speaker: My work-life balance.

Speaker: I'm very much an early bird.

Speaker: I could probably do eight hours of work from four to seven some mornings.

Speaker: Then I get to get my girls ready for school.

Speaker: When you're looking at something and

Speaker: The dollar amount can sometimes be very present, whether it's, again, your risk of investing into your own studio or maybe this isn't as much money when I look at the time that I'm investing into this position, but what am I going to get out of it if I strip that away?

Speaker: Yeah.

Speaker: Yeah, a lot of that is even just your mindset of how you look at it, right?

Speaker: And being open to all

Speaker: the growth opportunities in that.

Speaker: Um, I was telling you to another, when I, when I moved to Nashville without going into a lot of that background, um,

Speaker: My mom took me and my sister.

Speaker: We went to church.

Speaker: Just we weren't real consistent.

Speaker: My mother loved the Lord.

Speaker: And she was a believer.

Speaker: When she was dying, she had no fear of dying.

Speaker: So we went to church.

Speaker: We just didn't go.

Speaker: It wasn't like a part of our everyday life.

Speaker: So I would tell you that I knew scripture, the Bible.

Speaker: I'd be lying.

Speaker: My dad and my bonus mom, my stepmom, when I was with them, they would certainly, they are avid believers, still go to church all the time.

Speaker: So I had some exposure here and there and I did FCA in school, but I really felt very like I was in my infancy around my faith when I moved to Nashville.

Speaker: And I joined a church when I came here with the boys and loved the church.

Speaker: And I remember the pastor, Pastor Pete, asking from, it was a huge church.

Speaker: He was asking for volunteers to run these small groups.

Speaker: And he was up there on the stage talking to all of us.

Speaker: He's like, look, I promise I'm going to give you what you need to run these.

Speaker: All you need to be able to do is open a bag of Doritos, bag of pretzels.

Speaker: I'll give you everything else.

Speaker: We did it a couple of weeks in a row and I felt like this twinge.

Speaker: I moved here.

Speaker: I had my sister and brother were here, but I just felt like I needed to find a community.

Speaker: I was longing for someone, for people to

Speaker: film me because I was in a very vulnerable place in my life.

Speaker: And so I thought, I was sitting there going, oh God.

Speaker: So I thought, I just kept feeling this pull on my heart.

Speaker: So I was like, okay, I'm going to do it.

Speaker: I'm going to do it.

Speaker: I don't even know how to pray really.

Speaker: And I certainly can't read, can't really say any scripture besides John 3, 16, because my stepmom and dad got me to know that one.

Speaker: So I was like, okay, I'm going to do it.

Speaker: I don't know why I'm saying yes.

Speaker: The Lord is, the Holy Spirit is speaking in me.

Speaker: So I said yes.

Speaker: And

Speaker: was, you know, thinking, okay, God's going to bring me all these women that are my age.

Speaker: And they're going to come and tell me it's going to be okay.

Speaker: And they're going to hold my hand.

Speaker: They're going to pray over me.

Speaker: And in walks all these 22, 23, 24 year olds.

Speaker: And I'm like, wait, this is not God.

Speaker: You're not answering my prayer.

Speaker: Not what I wanted from saying yes to this very scary thing that I'm not going to know how to pray.

Speaker: And then these women, these girls, young girls were just what God was what I needed.

Speaker: They were amazing.

Speaker: They were looking for me.

Speaker: So all of a sudden,

Speaker: It took me out of me.

Speaker: Like I was like, I'm going to, they need me to mentor them and guide them and love on them.

Speaker: And that filled me.

Speaker: But I met my friend, Danielle, one of my best friends in case she listens to this, cause she gets really upset if I don't make sure everyone knows that she's one of my best friends.

Speaker: Um, shout out to Danielle, but I met her and we became great friends.

Speaker: She's like one of those people that no matter what happens, she has my back.

Speaker: She'll take the, she'll kill someone if they try to hurt me.

Speaker: My business, she was like, we're going to be number one.

Speaker: And we were, I mean, she's like that friend that if she, if you, she trusts you and you trust her that she'll do anything.

Speaker: But she, through the years, we've been great friends.

Speaker: Um, she's a singer songwriter now she's living in Tampa, but she introduced me to Joey, who is my husband.

Speaker: So by me saying this to a Bible study, not only served so many purposes and filled my heart and God gave me just what I needed.

Speaker: And I think I gave a lot to these girls that were looking for just someone to believe in them.

Speaker: Then through time, then here, Danielle introduces me to Joey and here I am married to bonus amazing daughters and

Speaker: You just never know.

Speaker: But I was super scared to say yes to a Bible study when I thought, oh my God, I'm going to have to pray with these people.

Speaker: And they could be, by the way, these 22 year olds could pray better than me all day long, but that's not what they needed.

Speaker: They didn't care.

Speaker: Right.

Speaker: Exactly.

Speaker: God, God was playing the long game with you on that one.

Speaker: She said, I know, I know you're feeling down right now, Heather, but I'm going to need you to go to this Bible study because you're going to get a husband out of it.

Speaker: Yeah.

Speaker: See, that was a big leap and look what happened.

Speaker: Look where I am now.

Speaker: It's crazy.

Speaker: That's wild.

Speaker: Yeah.

Speaker: And just as we're talking, there's so many tiny leaps we take every day too.

Speaker: And some of them pan out and are the absolute best things in our entire lives.

Speaker: And some of them don't.

Speaker: And that hurts.

Speaker: So I guess I would love to ask you, what kind of advice would you give someone who

Speaker: you know, maybe did take that leap and fell flat on their face.

Speaker: Right.

Speaker: Yeah.

Speaker: And that, I hope that happens.

Speaker: Right.

Speaker: Listen to me loud and clear people.

Speaker: I want, if that's not happening, you're not taking enough jumps.

Speaker: You're not leaping enough because it's in those, I've made so many mistakes, made decisions when I did not follow my gut, by the way, I need to put my pen down, that those are lessons, life lessons too, if we're willing to look at them and reflect on them and learn from them.

Speaker: Those are not mistakes.

Speaker: I mean, I said mistakes and I guess, you know, in hindsight, you can say they're mistakes, but something came out of that.

Speaker: Right.

Speaker: Right.

Speaker: So I want everyone to take leaps and make mistakes and fall on their face because that means you're doing enough.

Speaker: Right.

Speaker: Right.

Speaker: And that's a great way to build trust in yourself, right?

Speaker: You take a leap.

Speaker: Was it something?

Speaker: Was it an external factor or was it internal?

Speaker: Did I completely misjudge the situation, the person?

Speaker: So what about that leap?

Speaker: And then that way, the next one you take, you have better trust in yourself to make that right decision.

Speaker: Yeah, so true.

Speaker: You have to be so self-aware.

Speaker: I'm one of our podcasts.

Speaker: I think we talked about EQ, but you have to be so self-aware that you're looking for those patterns and you're asking yourself those questions.

Speaker: But I mean, I think we take some type of leap almost every day if we allow ourselves to, whether it's going to a gym, taking a challenge, whether it's deciding to go to a networking group or a meeting or, you know, take a phone call that someone's asking you, you just don't never know.

Speaker: where that will lead, who that will bring into your life.

Speaker: Right.

Speaker: So, um, I look for the opportunities and all of those.

Speaker: I mean, me,

Speaker: taking this phone call from Danielle to join this company three.

Speaker: The supplements have been amazing.

Speaker: I feel amazing.

Speaker: My body feels better, but going to that leadership conference in Vegas, which was part of three, I met so many great people.

Speaker: So, so many great people.

Speaker: And then to bring it to today, where last night we had an event and two of the top leaders are here from Florida.

Speaker: And I had coffee with her this morning and her name's Holly Roush.

Speaker: And I just left there going,

Speaker: thank you again, God, what she's an amazing person, believer and passion for people.

Speaker: You know, so outside of this, the business, we just talked and I thought, and I just connected with her.

Speaker: I'm like, wow, wow, wow, wow.

Speaker: I get to, you know, connect with this person who's amazing, who influenced me in a 45 minute coffee that, well, who knows how that'll play out in my life now.

Speaker: Right.

Speaker: Because I said yes to a phone call over something I really had no interest in at the time, but

Speaker: I trusted Danielle.

Speaker: I'm like, okay, let me just listen.

Speaker: And lifelong friendships have been made from me saying yes to that phone call.

Speaker: Absolutely.

Speaker: You just don't know.

Speaker: You don't know what opportunities are going to lie, what lessons are going to, I mean, even if it's not an opportunity, I feel like, you know, sometimes we go into certain situations, like what can this person offer me?

Speaker: Also, what can you offer them?

Speaker: But it's also, is it just a lesson?

Speaker: Yeah.

Speaker: So that's awesome.

Speaker: Yeah.

Speaker: So many stories like that.

Speaker: I mean, over and over.

Speaker: And I'm not sitting here saying, say yes, everything, please hear me clear.

Speaker: It's not what I'm saying, but I think sometimes we don't say yes because we're fearful.

Speaker: Um, right.

Speaker: And we find an excuse not to when it's really a knock on our door.

Speaker: Right.

Speaker: Right.

Speaker: If we will open it.

Speaker: And sometimes we perform better under a little bit of fear.

Speaker: Oh, fear is a good thing.

Speaker: People.

Speaker: It really, um,

Speaker: It really is.

Speaker: I remember reading something.

Speaker: I'm going to paraphrase this so wrong.

Speaker: Wait, does that make sense?

Speaker: What I just said?

Speaker: I'm going to paraphrase this.

Speaker: Something about like, I remember someone saying to me, like the times when we don't want to go to church, we don't want, we have resistance against something like, Oh, I just feel this resistance.

Speaker: Um,

Speaker: That's oftentimes when we need to do it the most.

Speaker: That church service is going to be when the Lord is going to speak right to me to what I need to hear that day.

Speaker: The days that I'm fighting against going.

Speaker: Absolutely.

Speaker: Or I don't want to go to that event because I just, oh, people are there.

Speaker: I don't know.

Speaker: When I feel it pulling on my heartstrings or pulling on my, it keeps coming up in my brain again.

Speaker: That's when I have to say yes.

Speaker: Because that's when there's something there that I need to hear or see or someone I need to meet.

Speaker: So I think just really listening to your instincts and

Speaker: making sure your reasons or your excuses for not doing something you're saying no are valid.

Speaker: Like if it's my child's sick.

Speaker: Yeah, that's different.

Speaker: That's black and white.

Speaker: But not when it's like, I don't feel like it or I'm scared.

Speaker: Yeah, I don't know who's going to be there.

Speaker: I mean, that's a huge one.

Speaker: But obviously that's stemming from something else.

Speaker: So someone that you might meet there might ease whatever nerve is currently going on and pull you out of that funk that you might be in.

Speaker: Um, so yeah, do it.

Speaker: I'll say about that.

Speaker: And this goes to many things in my life, but trying to be open-minded and getting rid of any judgments, um, misconceptions of something and willing, allowing yourself to be open-minded and open-hearted to something.

Speaker: Right.

Speaker: Cause why is that limiting belief in our mind anyway?

Speaker: Why are we judging it that way?

Speaker: You just don't ever know.

Speaker: Right.

Speaker: So take a leap through your fear, through your judgment and see what you come out with.

Speaker: Take those leaps, guys.
