Relaunching 'Occasionally Classy'

00:00:01
Speaker
Hi, it's Julie and Heather. Classy on occasion has taken little longer of an occasional break and we're excited to relaunch ah with this episode. Occasionally classy, classier than ever.
00:00:17
Speaker
Hello everyone. We are so excited to be back chatting with each other and all of you. we actually we actually had a couple requests. We took an unfortunate hiatus.
00:00:30
Speaker
Just a couple. Just a couple. We're giving the people what they want. We're a relaunch. I just loved Julie. Our last one was April 24th of last year. we were We've been almost gone a year.
00:00:41
Speaker
Oh, that is heartbreaking. know. Heartbreaking. I know. we have ah I've missed this so much.

Authenticity and Career Growth

00:00:50
Speaker
It brings us so much joy as we hope sharing our conversations and our um authentic, you know, kind of yeah wearing our heart on our sleeves conversations resonates with some of you as well.
00:01:07
Speaker
So authentic, because typically we come on here and go, okay, what are we going talk about? Let's just talk about our life. So much has happened in the past year, and I want to just do a little toot Julie's horn really quick, because and in the past year, I don't remember the last episode, what we talked about as far as your career or profession, but you are now the president of Cooper's Scoopers and have had the fastest launch in this company's history and loyalty brands.
00:01:33
Speaker
um And I know many people are very proud of you, but I am super, super proud of you. i never had a doubt. I've always been your biggest cheerleader, maybe not bigger than your mom, but just watching you thrive. And I think maybe today we can talk a little bit about that because I have some strong opinions about why you've done so well.
00:01:52
Speaker
um But I'm very proud you. Congratulations on the position and just the success that you've had. I know it's only been, what, not even two months maybe, but I'm really, really, really, really proud of you.
00:02:04
Speaker
So Heather um fails to warn me to bring tissues when she's going to say stuff like that. Damn you. um No, it has been wild, wild. So when we, I was just taking on my last position.
00:02:19
Speaker
The last time that we talked. Okay. Yeah. So let's change. A lot of change. from Incredible team. at My last company, Zoom and Groomin, also under the loyalty brands umbrella.
00:02:31
Speaker
But i I knew walking into that, I wanted more. um And I was very vocal about that. And opportunity came for Cooper's Scoopers. And I was like, pet waste management?
00:02:44
Speaker
Like, As a business? She had to get over with that, you guys. She was really like, I can't do a business that's picking up poop. She got over that.
00:02:55
Speaker
She got over that. Turn poop into gold. Well, it was a lot of it was the educational aspect of it. And yeah, truly what pet waste is, it's toxic. It's also takes a lot of time as a homeowner, or if you're in a commercial property, it can really um elevate your, um,
00:03:13
Speaker
you know, the cost of your real estate and the value there. So really just diving into it headfirst. I was laughing with Stoney and I'm like, I never thought that my light reading at night would be about pet poop or dog

Julie’s Journey in the Pet Industry

00:03:28
Speaker
poop. But here we are.
00:03:31
Speaker
Well, mean, you saw the opportunity that was, you know, that you were given by John Hewitt. Thank you to him for for giving that opportunity for sure. um But you also saw the need in the, I mean, the pet industry is growing. It might be one of the fastest growing industries. I'm not a hundred percent sure, but if it's not, it's definitely up there. So you understood too, that the timing of getting into something is so important and this industry is thriving right now and it's an opportunity, right?
00:03:56
Speaker
and Absolutely. It was an opportunity for, for other people to, to tap into again, the pet industry, but it was an incredible opportunity for me professionally um because it was like, here's two pieces of paper, create a business model for franchisees, for people to um be able to, to duplicate and, you know,
00:04:17
Speaker
A lot of our franchisees are also working fulltime job full-time jobs. So it needs to be something that if they follow the system, they are going to be successful and then they can scale. Right. That's the goal. um So it's been, it's been absolutely wild. I've technically we're two months launched.
00:04:34
Speaker
um We have seven franchisees around the nation, which is super cool. Yeah. And then a great group of of entrepreneurs who are, you know, taking control of their lives and and looking for,
00:04:46
Speaker
um You know, whether it's just professional success, financial success, you know, changing, changing their future. Yeah. It's been, it's been wild.
00:04:58
Speaker
Yep. I want to talk about, again, this is we're totally winging this, you guys, but I want to talk about, um and which is making you uncomfortable, but I want to talk about you, about this, because I want to talk about why I feel like um you've had success in everything you've ever touched that since I've known you, but certainly as I watched you launch Cooper Scoopers, even though as I watched you through, I love kickboxing too, but I think this could be a lesson. It's certainly every day you inspire me, and I think it can be a lesson for others too. like I think you have the, I don't think, I know you have the ability to hyper-focused, Julie. And I think that's so important in every aspect of our life. But you really are able to, and not i not perfect, we're not shooting for perfection, but you're so good at like, what I need to accomplish today, what i need to accomplish this week, how can I hyper-focus, how do I eliminate the noise, right? How do I not go down the hole of drama or
00:05:47
Speaker
things that don't serve a purpose for today or ever, maybe, depending on what it is, really just cut into the chase and say, okay, i back to what I have to focus on. And you just get shit done. You just get it done and you ask, but you're also always asking for, um,
00:06:01
Speaker
guidance and advice from people that you respect. And I think that also helps you stay and in your lane and focus. And I think the more we can do that um personally, the more we can do that in our professions and more we can do as we chase our dreams is how we will get results, right? So I just, I really want I know i've told you this before because we talk every day, but acknowledge and and highlight the fact that That's such a gift and a skill that, by the way,

Keys to Personal and Professional Success

00:06:27
Speaker
it's a learned. We can all, if you if you don't have that now, you can certainly get that good it.
00:06:31
Speaker
It's not, i oh, yeah I'll have that. I hate when people say that. Like, okay, we'll get it then. She was born with it. yeah What is that? Click, Maybelline, whatever. um yeah No, well, i that I was not born with it.
00:06:44
Speaker
um A lot of things that I can immediately point to, one, none of that comes without absolute meltdowns occasionally. Yeah. Heather has answered the phone at 745 after school drop off where I'm like, oh I'm never going to get it all done. There's no light at the end of the tunnel.
00:07:05
Speaker
There is. you just are. You can you can either let your day run you or you can run your day. And that's not to say that you're not going to have days where you're like, I got to step back for a minute. I got to go on two mile walk.
00:07:18
Speaker
I have just, I've got step back. yeah What are my priorities? What's the most important thing? Um, and especially being a working mom, that might be my kids that day. Um, so, so what's my priority and and knowing that, um, if you are going to show up, give it your all, get done what you can.
00:07:34
Speaker
But going back to that learned behavior, I've said this time and time again. And I, if I, you have got to surround yourself with people who are going to hold you accountable And help you let listen, listen, but not somebody who's going to listen to you complain the whole time, right?
00:07:52
Speaker
Spend truth into you. Absolutely. Because if you're going to sit there and complain and that person is going to validate all of that, you're not to get, you're not going to get shit done and you're going to stay in that negative space.
00:08:03
Speaker
So surrounding yourself with people are going to hold you accountable. Somebody who is still going to listen to you because you can spiral and have a meltdown and all of those things can be true, but then you can find a solution and, and, you know, get your to-do list done.
00:08:17
Speaker
Yeah. yeah So find a Heather. I don't know if I don't know where you can buy them, but
00:08:24
Speaker
I don't, I don't know if they sell them at the stop and shop, but find somebody that is um always going to challenge you. Challenge your thoughts. Yeah.
00:08:35
Speaker
kind try Obviously, it's got to be a trusted relationship. or you here Yeah. um But I think it's important, again, back to that. And you speak truth into me, too, Julie. i think we do that for each other. But that really, we'll listen to you, but then go, okay, but let's let's look at it this way. Or how about this? or And to challenge your thinking. And I think, you know, yeah you're good about this, too, as am I. Although it goes in cycles, it's really important.
00:08:59
Speaker
focusing on personal development. I know we did this. I think we did a podcast a little bit on this on self-awareness, but, um, we've got even, it can be 10 minutes, but we have to make sure we're listening to things that are going to help us grow, that are going to challenge our thinking.
00:09:13
Speaker
Um, so that could be our 10 minute conversations in the morning, or it could be 10 minutes of a podcast, or it could be a book you're reading or mastermind that you're a part of, but doing something that is constantly challenging you and and helping you grow up both personally and professionally. And those typically tie together anyway, but I'm just super proud. I really feel like that's been a big, you're also, I've said before, and I think our podcast, but you're really good about, you have confidence, but you're also a learner, um but you're not afraid to do something. If it, if it messes up, you know, you'll fix it or some, it'll get fixed. I mean, you're not afraid that you don't let fear inhibit your decisions, right? So entrepreneurs that are successful too,
00:09:49
Speaker
have great attitudes, and always have great attitudes, are students you know and leaders, but aren't afraid to take action, make decisions, even if it's not the perfect decision. Right. Yeah, I just had that happen this week. And gosh, man, i it hurt because it is when you're in a leadership position, a lot of people can be affected by it. um But the first thing I did, I said, okay, well, what's the solution?
00:10:12
Speaker
Here are five different solutions. Here's the outcome of those five potential solutions. um And to even say six months from now, I might have to pivot again, right? I might have to choose make another hard choice. Yeah.
00:10:25
Speaker
So yeah, it it sucks, but guess what? we're gonna We're going to find the best solution. We're going to work together. Yeah. And there'll be another one. There'll be another mistake. There'll be another bad decision. That's right.
00:10:36
Speaker
you know, it wasn't intentional. It's part of, especially part of a startup company. We're going to make, make the mistakes and do things that aren't, you know, that we think are the best at the time. And then we ended up finding out otherwise. So that's just part of it. But, um, I just am again, really proud of you. And, uh, I know this won't be your your last stop. I think there's so much more for you, but, uh, really proud. I can't wait to see what happens with Cooper's scoopers, but also your life.

The Role of Fitness and Community

00:10:59
Speaker
I love you. Oh my gosh. Oh, you were, My cup overflows when I talk to you. Well, thank you. I feel the same. You're the best. I love that. We talk every morning. I love that we talk every morning. Almost every, like I would say five out of seven days we talk. It might be five minutes. It might be 15, but I think that's a nice, so that's a nice relationship to have with somebody. And I look forward to those calls. In fact, if you miss a damnm like, wait, why didn't you call me today? What's going on? 9-1-1.
00:11:23
Speaker
nine one one and no Another huge thing I do always, i always go back to this and and I'm seeing it in a few acquaintance lives on social media, and but having some sort of personal time, and I always attest my personal time to my fitness routine.
00:11:45
Speaker
As a mother, as a leader now, as a wife, as a friend, I show up 150%. Maybe not the whole day, depending on if it's a cardio that kicks my ass.
00:11:57
Speaker
yeah But show up 150% more on days that I have taken 45 minutes. And also, shout out to my rooster crew, who... Sometimes it's a longer than 45 minutes because we're yapping in the parking lot. But um that time for yourself to, especially as a, you know,
00:12:17
Speaker
mothers, women make a lot of decisions throughout the day, right? It's okay. I need to get all these emails done, but I also have to go to the grocery store. What are we having for dinner tonight? So I got an email from the school. I forgot picture day on Friday, which also broke my heart. I don't know why.
00:12:33
Speaker
Um, so being able to have in those 45 minutes, I'm either thinking about absolutely nothing, or I'm thinking about not dying because it's a cardio day. Yeah.
00:12:44
Speaker
It just clears your mind. it is 100% therapy. So again, I know I've said this a thousand times over, my life changed when i met Heather and when i became began a fitness routine. And she, i mean, you, i cannot thank you enough. Like you really helped me see the additional value in it when there were days when I was like, o it it wasn't as sticky for me in the beginning when we first met.
00:13:10
Speaker
And you really always reminded me of the a mental value. and was never in the physical value. as it well yeah It's always the mental value of having that routine. So, yeah. And I think in finding a community that you can do it with. Right. So, I mean, everyone's a little bit different. I had my girlfriends here this weekend from college. We've been doing this for 30 years. That's how old I am.
00:13:30
Speaker
Um, you know, and not, not all of us can do the same type of physical workout because we're in our 50 mid fifties now and we have different limitations, but and And one of them says she works out from home and has no problem.
00:13:41
Speaker
Like I, I, Oh, I see Maggie in the back. then um I can't, I mean, I can't work out. I can't say I can't, that's, that's a decision I'm making. i don't enjoy working out from home. So it's harder for me to sustain it. Right. But when I go in, where I have a community like you have with burn and like, I'm starting to establish with my yoga sculpt, which is, which is a little bit of a challenge. It's not high cardio intense. Like I'm used to, but I need that group fitness, but finding what it works for you. And then something that you can,
00:14:06
Speaker
that you enjoy or if the the community, if it's not the workout, some people's like, like, I hate working out. I'm like, well, find the community that you enjoy. It's going to get you there. Um, or what, what rejuvenates you.
00:14:17
Speaker
So, and I think it's important. We all move our bodies, especially as we get older to some degree, and it does really give you mental clarity. It does give you physical benefits for sure. and potentially community too, but,
00:14:28
Speaker
If that's going for a walk, my girlfriend, Erica was here, loves to read. I'm like, she goes, I'm just making sure I spend time reading every day that rejuvenates her. So whatever it is, it's going to give you energy and and fill your cup back up to then go fuel and fill others.
00:14:42
Speaker
Right. Make time. We schedule that. So important. Yeah, you have to, I mean, you never know what's going to be thrown at you personally, professionally at the end of the

Podcast Future and Listener Engagement

00:14:51
Speaker
day. So, um, that's awesome.
00:14:54
Speaker
All right. Well, is that a wrap? How'd we do? we're wrap i think, um, so wasn't it I miss this much. Uh, it's so fulfilling for us. And again, we just hope that, um, you know, there's, there's some little nuggets you guys can get out of our little chit chats.
00:15:11
Speaker
Um, so we're, we're going be back every two weeks. We are making a commitment to, bringing joy to our own lives through this podcast. And again, hopefully yours. So, uh, we'll see you guys in two weeks.
