Speaker: Welcome to today's episode.

Speaker: We're going to be talking about embracing growth in the weight.

Speaker: We're going to explore the transformative power found in moments of anticipation and uncertainty.

Speaker: We know we've all been there.

Speaker: We hope you enjoy today's episode.

Speaker: Hello, everyone.

Speaker: We're so excited we're here.

Speaker: You know what?

Speaker: We forgot what episode this was.

Speaker: We did.

Speaker: As if you've done hundreds.

Speaker: We're on episode six.

Speaker: Um, so just want to catch everyone up and one, can we just give the universe a high five for warming up?

Speaker: Because I feel so alive.

Speaker: It's going to be 81 here today.

Speaker: Oh my goodness.

Speaker: That's wild.

Speaker: I know.

Speaker: I'm like, we have short sleeves on.

Speaker: I know.

Speaker: Look at us.

Speaker: One of my really important things to start off the podcast was how many of you guys struggle with being cold and sweaty at the same time?

Speaker: Like, I'm cold right now, but my pits are sweating.

Speaker: I'm like, wait, am I cold?

Speaker: I don't know.

Speaker: And then, yeah.

Speaker: I'm like, I'm sweating.

Speaker: Or is it menopause?

Speaker: All the above.

Speaker: That could also be a thing.

Speaker: And then I have this burn on my forehead.

Speaker: Well, potentially.

Speaker: Potentially.

Speaker: I think the D's are crawling on, and I'm just going to call it out so you guys can all start at the entire podcast.

Speaker: Burn.

Speaker: I'll go this way now.

Speaker: There you go.

Speaker: That's not awkward.

Speaker: How are you guys doing?

Speaker: Those that are watching the audio and aren't watching us are like, what the hell is happening on that podcast?

Speaker: What are they talking about?

Speaker: So we've had a lot of life changes in two weeks.

Speaker: It's been a wild 2024, right?

Speaker: Like it was professional and personal opportunities.

Speaker: And now we're in professional weight.

Speaker: So big changes professionally for both of us.

Speaker: We recorded a podcast on taking leap and getting courageous.

Speaker: And then I think it was like the next day or next two days, our company was acquired by another company.

Speaker: And literally, I'm in the weight right now.

Speaker: 100% in the weight.

Speaker: I'm also a little bit in the weight, but excited to see what opportunity comes out of this.

Speaker: Yeah.

Speaker: But Heather took a big leap.

Speaker: Yeah.

Speaker: I did.

Speaker: I decided not to sign with the new company.

Speaker: And the minute I made that decision, it wasn't a long period of time, but the minute I made that decision, I just felt this relief.

Speaker: I mean, it was literally, I could feel my body like change how it felt.

Speaker: And not that I'm not still navigating the,

Speaker: these moments of fear, right?

Speaker: So this is not the first time I've been in a period of weight or transition in my life.

Speaker: I'm sure not for you either, Julie, but there is, and I just keep reminding myself, there's so much opportunity for growth, for just calmness.

Speaker: And I just want to take advantage of this time.

Speaker: even though I'm having to navigate those moments of fear and unknown.

Speaker: Because the last time I was in a period of like this, amazing things happened.

Speaker: after I went through it.

Speaker: Right.

Speaker: You, you, you have to kind of resist the urge to jump in and fix it.

Speaker: I think you and I are probably very similar.

Speaker: Like I want, I'm a control freak.

Speaker: I want to know the plan.

Speaker: I want to know whatever the plan is, even if it's not great.

Speaker: And I, as long as I know it, I can manage it.

Speaker: Right.

Speaker: It's when you don't know that I really have a hard time because I want to fix things.

Speaker: I want to control things.

Speaker: I want to give me, give me what it is and I'll handle it.

Speaker: So when you're in that period of, you don't know, um,

Speaker: It's very difficult not to panic or fix it or find some temporary solution because you don't know what else to do.

Speaker: And I'm just trying to rest in this time.

Speaker: Well, that temporary solution may distract you from that time that you have and the clarity opportunity, not only professionally, but it's like personally, I know a big goal is, you know, office organization for both of us.

Speaker: And you now have that.

Speaker: It looks beautiful behind you.

Speaker: I have no idea.

Speaker: I have no idea.

Speaker: I just cleared that part out.

Speaker: If you can see everywhere else.

Speaker: but to really sit back and organize your life, organize your mind.

Speaker: I had a six year old teach me how to organize my mind yesterday.

Speaker: Oh my God.

Speaker: Please tell that story.

Speaker: Okay.

Speaker: So Francis, we're with our niece, our cousin and her cousin, and we're coming back from the park and she's talking about a memory that she had with her cousin.

Speaker: And she said,

Speaker: you know, we're at grandma's and we're doing this craft and you were there.

Speaker: I know you were there.

Speaker: And it kind of started getting a little heated.

Speaker: Like you remember you were there.

Speaker: I'm like, calm down.

Speaker: She might not remember.

Speaker: Or she may not have been there.

Speaker: Like somebody is not remembering correctly.

Speaker: And I was like, it's okay.

Speaker: And then she goes,

Speaker: She looks at her cousin.

Speaker: She goes, you know, I have a little card at the front of my brain.

Speaker: And it's got the picture of us doing this craft together.

Speaker: And I know you were there.

Speaker: And then when I'm done with that card, I just flip it on back.

Speaker: So it's still back there.

Speaker: And then think about the next thing.

Speaker: Wait, she's five.

Speaker: So you're six.

Speaker: Such a simple, but profound thought process to organize her thoughts in her brain.

Speaker: And I'm like,

Speaker: How do I tap into that as an adult?

Speaker: Obviously, she doesn't have as many distractions as, you know, we do as adults, but we should be able to sort through our brain simply.

Speaker: Yeah.

Speaker: Yeah.

Speaker: Mine is when you drop all the cards on the floor and they're like all like this.

Speaker: That's my brain.

Speaker: Those are my memories.

Speaker: A hundred tabs open on the top of your brain.

Speaker: Oh, we digress.

Speaker: Um, but yeah, just being able to have that time to, um, put some clarity around your life professionally and personally.

Speaker: Yeah.

Speaker: And I think what, well, I don't think I know what happens if we try to jump into the first thing that comes our way or, um, is we could miss the real opportunity, the more powerful, purposeful opportunity.

Speaker: And that goes not just like with, in my case, looking for my next professional, um,

Speaker: career, but that can goes with relationships, right?

Speaker: Not to get too off topic, I guess this really is on topic, but when you, I feel like, you know, you, especially as you get older and you're single and I have some friends in my life that are in this situation and don't just jump on the first guy that pays you attention, right?

Speaker: Because that could be the wrong person.

Speaker: Listen to your instincts and your gut, because if you stay with that one, look at what you could be missing, right?

Speaker: You just, we have to be so careful not to jump out of fear.

Speaker: Um,

Speaker: because we could just miss what God has for us.

Speaker: Yeah.

Speaker: And I feel like a lot of, um, women my age are jumping into, you know, that marriage for, um, you know, they really want a baby.

Speaker: Unfortunately we have a very, very, uh, strong alarm clock in our bodies.

Speaker: Um, and as soon as that alarm clock goes off, um,

Speaker: And, you know, going through fertility treatments myself and, you know, being fortunate enough to be young enough to start that process and having – I'm fertile myrtle, as people joke.

Speaker: But if I could express anything is – that's such a small – I mean, I went through fertility treatments with both girls.

Speaker: obviously such a monumental experience going through surrogacy.

Speaker: But at the end of the day, I also have to raise these two girls for the rest of my life, right?

Speaker: That was a couple years, essentially all together, but I have to raise these girls for the rest of my life with my partner.

Speaker: So if I could beg any women in their thirties and maybe even younger, I mean, the, the fertility rates are just skyrocketing.

Speaker: If you want to have a family and you are concerned about that timeline and you don't want to wait anymore for the perfect partner and you settle, just go to a clinic, go get some, you know, baseline testing done.

Speaker: That way you don't hurry this decision, pick the wrong partner.

Speaker: And then you're, you know, an entire lifetime of no support.

Speaker: Yeah.

Speaker: I mean, there's options and part of this waiting and you mentioned a second ago is that

Speaker: really getting curious, doing research, taking the time to, you know, dig into LinkedIn, dig into resources, so much available on the web and on chat GPT now.

Speaker: And, um, is to take the time.

Speaker: This is when you have time, there's so much, you can so much valuable information out there.

Speaker: So I would certainly challenge anyone to dig into that and listening to podcasts and,

Speaker: or audible books or books or whatever it might be, but there's just, there's no reason that you can just sit back and do nothing.

Speaker: There's no reason you should, there's just too much out there.

Speaker: One of the, I turned you onto that career Contessa website and she's got a podcast too.

Speaker: So much good stuff about transitioning in your professional life.

Speaker: And one thing she said about, she wanted to look into being a recruiter and her resume would not really, if you look at just her resume, she wouldn't seem qualified.

Speaker: So she actually went on LinkedIn and she said she messaged, I think I said 70 people.

Speaker: She messaged 70 people to try to get what she called power chats with them and 30 responded.

Speaker: So she ended up doing 30 power chats simply to gather information so that when she could kind of update her resume with all the information she gathered.

Speaker: And then when she did her cover letters and interviews, she had all this knowledge from talking to 30 different recruiters.

Speaker: I'm like, what a simple tip.

Speaker: That's so incredibly powerful.

Speaker: I'm like, hello, I can do that.

Speaker: You are now a professional in your field.

Speaker: Take that, take advantage.

Speaker: I've, you know, recently made some connections on some women to women business pages and, you know, have a coffee date with someone in a couple of weeks.

Speaker: So take advantage of the time you have to really sit down face to face and make those new connections, be vocal, be vocal,

Speaker: in any of your professional groups and friend groups.

Speaker: But yeah, just so many ways to make connections with new people because you have the time, you have the opportunity, you don't have an excuse.

Speaker: No, for sure.

Speaker: I think sometimes you can be wanting to withdraw from

Speaker: Like, oh, I'm not doing anything.

Speaker: I don't have a career.

Speaker: And people are going to say, what do you do?

Speaker: And you're like, oh, I don't do anything.

Speaker: So I think it's great.

Speaker: Okay.

Speaker: Well, you can never say you don't do anything, Heather.

Speaker: Don't make me come over there.

Speaker: One of the first times I said out loud that I was unemployed, another good friend of mine said, you're not unemployed.

Speaker: You're self-employed.

Speaker: I'm like, oh, you're right.

Speaker: I'm right.

Speaker: I'm not unemployed.

Speaker: I'm in a career transition, but I still am self-employed and doing lots of other things because I believe in multiple channels of revenue.

Speaker: That's all another podcast.

Speaker: Right.

Speaker: you know, one thing I was thinking about this is really changing my mindset.

Speaker: So instead of saying, Oh my God, what if I don't find another job?

Speaker: What if I don't make as much money?

Speaker: What if my kids need to change schools?

Speaker: All the things that happened to me back in 2010, when I had that other very scary transition period of my life, there were so many what ifs and I had to really

Speaker: And really, well, that's during that time, just take a, let me digress for a second.

Speaker: During that time, which was incredibly difficult, is when I found my real relationship with the Lord.

Speaker: So, but I was sitting and waiting for two years and finally got to the point, I'm like, I don't know what else to do, but to surrender.

Speaker: I decided to surrender to God.

Speaker: And I just dove into my faith, got to know Jesus and just found this

Speaker: something I'd never had before.

Speaker: So that, that, you know, that wouldn't have come if I wouldn't have had that time.

Speaker: I don't necessarily, but now, so now I'm in this in another time and I'm not really scared right now.

Speaker: I may have these moments, like I said, but really changing my mindset to what if I find the perfect,

Speaker: not perfect.

Speaker: Nothing's perfect.

Speaker: But what if I find the, this new opportunity that fulfills me like never before?

Speaker: What if I find a whole nother path of purpose?

Speaker: What if I make more money than ever?

Speaker: What if I realized I don't need to make more money and I can really go do this other thing?

Speaker: What if, what if my dreams actually come true?

Speaker: What if I meet someone else?

Speaker: Like, yeah, I met you, Julie.

Speaker: And my last, you know, I want to just get excited right now and ask myself those questions versus, you know, doom and gloom, which just drains and has no real,

Speaker: benefit anyway.

Speaker: You know what I mean?

Speaker: Yeah.

Speaker: I mean, it's a, it's a scary place to go to.

Speaker: I have definitely picked up the phone a couple of times to call you when I, you know, let our, let my thoughts kind of travel.

Speaker: But again, you know, and I just want to touch on something you said, you know, that you're self-employed.

Speaker: I encourage anybody to have, you know,

Speaker: some sort of financial security, even a little bit, three months, six months, um, because, um,

Speaker: you know, working for someone else, even self-employed, um, you know, we're living in some very, um, financially volatile times.

Speaker: Um, our, you know, grocery bills are absolutely insane.

Speaker: Um, so, you know, look, look at that.

Speaker: I know you may think you have a secure job right now and, and you don't know what that's going to look like.

Speaker: Um,

Speaker: in three months from now and you could, you know, I mean, we literally were recording about taking a leap and we were forced to make a decision, fit a decision the next day.

Speaker: So, um, yeah, I just encourage everyone to really have some sort of, because then it does offer you that, that piece of not have, Oh my gosh, I have to go find a job right this second.

Speaker: It doesn't matter how much money it is.

Speaker: It doesn't matter what the opportunity looks like because,

Speaker: I need to feed my family.

Speaker: I need to, you know, keep the water running.

Speaker: Um, so I feel that's just so important.

Speaker: So important right now.

Speaker: I agree.

Speaker: Nest egg, multiple sources of revenue, if you can, uh, another great way.

Speaker: I think we should all diversify in our income anyway, but yeah, that's a great, great little nugget, big nugget.

Speaker: Yeah.

Speaker: Love that.

Speaker: Um, yeah.

Speaker: So I just, I really am.

Speaker: It's been what, two weeks, week and a half, two weeks, um, two weeks.

Speaker: And this morning I was doing things around the house and I thought, I do not know how to not be busy.

Speaker: Like I was like, why?

Speaker: And I asked myself that question.

Speaker: Why am I, I don't know if phrase is the right word, but why do I feel like I have to always be busy?

Speaker: And I don't know how to have the answer to give our listeners except for I was like, okay, is it that I don't like to be bored?

Speaker: Do I feel like I, I, my purpose really is in my busyness.

Speaker: Are you distracting yourself from something else?

Speaker: Maybe.

Speaker: I don't know.

Speaker: Yeah.

Speaker: I mean, that you're not addressing.

Speaker: Or do I just, if I'm not busy, then I know I'll,

Speaker: eat and spend money.

Speaker: And I don't know.

Speaker: I mean, I really do like to be busy.

Speaker: Um, and also I don't want to be busy, like cleaning the house and cleaning my office.

Speaker: So I'm busy.

Speaker: We're going to set goals.

Speaker: We're going to use this opportunity of waiting, um, and make those connections.

Speaker: Yep.

Speaker: Make connections when you have this opportunity.

Speaker: get curious about your life and what you really want.

Speaker: Ask yourself some questions, really dig into your mindset and look at this as an opportunity, not as a... Someone said last week, slow down to speed up.

Speaker: You can really look at, I mean, and especially look at what you did in your job or in your life.

Speaker: I mean, if it's something personal, what brought you the most joy?

Speaker: Like you can really sit and reflect, what did I do that brought me the most joy?

Speaker: what is something that I'm super passionate about?

Speaker: Maybe I haven't, maybe it's a completely different career field and I haven't even taken the energy to look into it.

Speaker: Right.

Speaker: Like, is this something I can pursue?

Speaker: Um, I think that's a, that's an incredible opportunity if you have, if you're sitting in a, in a period of weight, um,

Speaker: professional and personal.

Speaker: I agree.

Speaker: I do see this as a gift.

Speaker: Um, and I'm going to relish in it.

Speaker: I'm excited about some things that are starting to come my way.

Speaker: We'll see.

Speaker: And I really, I really trust, I'm really trusting God in this, in, um, in my instincts, um, which I believe for the Holy spirit, but to not rush into anything and to make sure it's really aligns with what I'm meant to do, my purpose and my passion.

Speaker: Cause, um,

Speaker: When you do something that you love, it's not a job.

Speaker: That's a, that's hard.

Speaker: Yeah.

Speaker: That's where opportunity lies, right?

Speaker: Yes.

Speaker: I read something about it.

Speaker: It's in there.

Speaker: The more resistance you have, the more opportunity is there.

Speaker: So bring it on, bring on the resistance.

Speaker: I'm ready for it.

Speaker: You got this girl.

Speaker: Well, I'm excited to see, again, we're just having such a pivotal year so far.

Speaker: No kidding.

Speaker: Yeah.

Speaker: No kidding.

Speaker: It's only March 14th.

Speaker: I know.

Speaker: And it's only, but it's March 14th.

Speaker: We're already almost over the first quarter.

Speaker: So I guess I would challenge our listeners, viewers, however you're watching this podcast, to whether you're not even in a weight right now professionally, still take the opportunity to get curious about your life and what you want.

Speaker: As we said last week, take those leaps, right?

Speaker: Even small leaps can have a radical...

Speaker: make a radical difference in your life.

Speaker: Absolutely.

Speaker: I'm excited for everyone to follow.

Speaker: Yes.

Speaker: We can't wait to share more on our next podcast.

Speaker: Thanks for listening.

Speaker: See you later.

Speaker: We hope you enjoyed this week's episode.

Speaker: Your feedback means a lot to us and helps us improve to reach more people just like you.
