Today we will learn about how Jesus was born into this world to be our rescuer! Parents, want to keep talking? Here are some ideas:

Ask: What special baby was born? Why did God send his Son? (To save all people) When do we celebrate Jesus’ birth? (at Christmastime) What is your favorite part of celebrating Jesus’ birth? (ages 2-5)

What would you say if an angel appeared to you? Why do you think the angels appeared to shepherds instead of powerful, rich people? Not a lot is recorded about Jesus’ growing-up years. Do you think Jesus was a good kid? Why do you think that? (ages 6-10)?

John writes that life was in Jesus and “that life was the light for all people.” What do you think that means? Is God’s light for all people? If so, why don’t all people know Jesus as Savior? (ages 11-12)

One last thing! This week April asked, “Why do you think God sent his son to be a savior for EVERYONE?”. Simply record a voice memo and send it in a text to 636-280-5433. You may even be featured in an upcoming episode. *By sending in a voice memo, you’re providing consent for your minor’s voice to be on the podcast*

I'm Miss April, and today we find ourselves right in the middle of that big, beautiful God story.

Jesus: The Rescuer Introduced

00:00:27
Speaker
God's people have been needing someone to rescue them for a long time.
00:00:31
Speaker
And finally, the rescuer comes. This rescuer saves God's people and this rescuer saves you and me. It's Jesus.

Angels: Protectors and Messengers

00:00:41
Speaker
But before we learn about this awesome story, we are going to hear from an awesome kid with some super fun facts about angels.
00:00:51
Speaker
It's time for some phone bats. My name is Asher. I'm Bobby Joe. Angels are protectors. Angels protect Daniel.
00:01:02
Speaker
Angels are messengers. They tell messengers from God. Some people are afraid of angels, but we don't need to be afraid. God's people were waiting for hundreds of years for a king to come along who would be greater than King David.
00:01:18
Speaker
They knew that God would send someone special to help them, but they didn't know exactly when that would happen, and they never would have guessed how this special helper would come. In the little town of Nazareth lived a young woman named Mary who loved God.
00:01:35
Speaker
And one day she was visited by an angel named Gabriel. Gabriel was a special messenger from heaven. Mary, do not be afraid. God is very pleased with you.
00:01:47
Speaker
You are to become a mother and have a baby boy. You are to give him the name Jesus. He is God's own son. He will be great and he will save the world.
00:01:58
Speaker
Mary was amazed and also quite confused. She asked, how can this be? I'm not married yet. Gabriel said, God will cause a miracle to happen.
00:02:10
Speaker
With God, all things are possible. Mary listened and believed the angel's words. She said, i trust God. am his servant and I am ready for this miracle.
00:02:23
Speaker
The angel also visited Joseph and told him that God would cause a miracle to happen. He explained that the Holy Spirit would cause Mary to become pregnant and she would have a baby boy.

The Birth of Jesus in Bethlehem

00:02:34
Speaker
This baby would be the one everyone had been waiting for. They were expecting this special helper to come as a powerful king, but God planned him to come to this world as a tiny baby.
00:02:46
Speaker
He would be more powerful than any earthly king they had ever known. He would save all people from their sins Joseph also believed the angel's words. Together, Mary and Joseph waited for this wonderful thing to happen.
00:03:02
Speaker
When it was almost time for Jesus to be born, Mary and Joseph had to go on a trip. The long journey to Bethlehem was not easy for someone about to have a baby.
00:03:13
Speaker
Joseph tried to find a place for Mary to rest, but every place was full. No more rooms, go away, they told him, try somewhere else. Joseph kept trying, explaining that his wife was about to have a baby, but people kept turning him away.
00:03:29
Speaker
Mary was so tired and Joseph was so worried. Finally, an innkeeper felt sorry for the couple and offered for them to stay in a stable he had out back.
00:03:40
Speaker
Joseph tried to make Mary as comfortable as possible in that tiny stable surrounded by animals. That night, her beautiful miracle baby was born. As she cradled the sweet baby in her arms, she remembered the angel saying, He will save the world.
00:03:58
Speaker
Wow! Mary knew that the tiny baby in her arms was the Savior that God had promised His people. This baby would change everything.
00:04:09
Speaker
Joseph and Mary were not the only ones finding out that God was up to something big. In a field nearby, shepherds were watching over sheep when an angel of the Lord appeared with a glorious light shining all around.
00:04:23
Speaker
The angel said, "'Do not be afraid. "'I bring you good news that will be a great joy to all people. "'Today your Savior has been born in Bethlehem. "'This is how you will know him. "'He will be wrapped in cloths, lying in a manger.'" Then the sky filled with many angels singing and praising God for the wonderful gift of baby Jesus.
00:04:45
Speaker
Can you imagine looking up at the night sky and seeing it filled with angels praising god How amazing! The shepherds were so excited to meet this special baby. They went straight to town looking for a baby lying in a manger.
00:05:02
Speaker
When they found Joseph and Mary and the baby, they knew the angels' words were true. God had sent their helper. God had sent the one who would save them. And God had sent the one who would save us.
00:05:15
Speaker
So let's get to

Jesus: The Rescuer for the World

00:05:16
Speaker
the point. God sent Jesus to rescue the world. Jesus is my rescuer. That special baby was sent to Mary and Joseph and the shepherds and to you and me.
00:05:27
Speaker
Baby Jesus came to be a rescuer for the whole world. Today with your family, answer this question. Why do you think God sent his son to be a savior for everyone?
