Preschool: What is a surprise? Have you ever had a happy surprise? Jesus' friends had a happy surprise on the first Easter- what was it?

Elementary: Have you ever gone from super sad to super happy? Tell that story. That's what happened to Jesus' friends and followers on the first Easter! Why would the empty tomb make them so happy? Why should it make US so happy?

In last week’s episode, we looked at the interactions of Jesus and his disciples during the final evening of his earthly ministry. The events after that fateful night would forever alter their worlds (and ours). Imagine seeing the person you learned from, sacrificed for, and loved over the course of three years publicly executed—and someone you considered a brother being the catalyst for your teacher's shocking end. The pain and distress overwhelmed them. Then something changed everything. In this week’s episode, Pastor Jim Mueller is going to celebrate the greatest comeback in history. Experience the disciples' confusion, elation, and ultimate understanding of what they were a part of when Jesus conquered death. It's a life and a movement that Jesus invites us into too!

171: The Resurrection

Today we are learning about the last things Jesus did on earth to show his great love for us! Parents, want to keep talking? Here are some ideas:

Ask: What happened to Jesus in this Bible story? (Jesus had dinner with his friends, prayed in a garden and died on a cross) Why did Jesus die? (He died for our sins) How did Jesus show his love for us? (By dying for our sins) Sing Jesus Loves Me (ages 2-5)

If you didn’t know how it was going to turn out, this would be the saddest chapter of The Story. A lot of terrible things happened to Jesus. He was arrested, his friends let him down, and he was beaten and killed. When Jesus asked his disciples to pray for him, they fell asleep instead. Talk about a time that your friends let you down. Why is it so hard to stay awake sometimes when you’re praying at night? Will Jesus ever let you down? Why? (ages 6-9)

In a poignant act of service, Jesus washes the disciples’ feet at the Last Supper. He was the ultimate leader and the ultimate servant. What most surprises you about Jesus washing his disciples’ feet? Do you think it is important for leaders to show they love and care for the people they’re leading? What are some other ways that Jesus showed the disciples that he loved them? (ages 10-12)

For thousands of years God's people have had no trouble getting into trouble. They've repeatedly gone their own way, sinned on grand scales, and tested the patience of a very patient God. Now the time has come for God's wrath to be unleashed. But instead of punishing the ones who deserve it, he sacrifices his own son.

169: The Hour of Darkness

Today we are learning that Jesus is the Son of God, and he is full of love! Parents, want to keep talking? Here are some ideas:

Ask: What did the disciples say to the kids? (Go away!) What did Jesus say? (Come to me) Who loves you? Sing the songs “Jesus loves me” and “Jesus loves the Little Children” many times this week. If you don’t know the songs, you can find them online. (ages 2-5)

A parent’s blessing was an important part of Jewish culture throughout the Bible. Spend time this week speaking a blessing out loud over each of your children every day. You may want to use a blessing from Scripture to pray over your children. As you bless your child, place your hand on his or her head or shoulder. (ages 6-12)

Today we will learn that Jesus was a fantastic storyteller. Parents, want to keep talking? Here are some ideas:

Ask: Tell me about your favorite story. What is your favorite Bible story? Can you tell me about some of the stories Jesus told? (The Good Samaritan, the Prodigal Son) (ages 2-5)

One of the coolest things Jesus did was walk on water. What do you think that would be like? Peter tried to walk on water but took his eyes off Jesus and went for a swim instead. What’s your favorite part about swimming? (ages 6-10)

When Jesus fed the 5,000 people, do you find it interesting that there were 12 baskets of leftover food? Why didn’t Jesus make just enough food for everybody? What do you think the little boy thought when he gave up his lunch? Do you think he had any idea that Jesus was going to use it to feed everybody? What does this miracle teach you about God’s power? (ages 11-12)

*Jesus called a wide variety of people to be his disciples-fisherman, tax collectors, revolutionaries—why didn’t Jesus call more powerful people like religious and government leaders? Think of the Christians you know. Are they all the same? Why does jesus call people with different interests and personalities to follow him? (ages 11-12)

That's a lot of doom and gloom, but it's the reality of life for a Christian. Of course, we're not without hope! Early in His ministry, Jesus endured (and conquered) Satan's temptations. We have tools against the devil's schemes—and a loving God on our side who will go to any length to save us.
