00:01:41
The SnowJobs Podcast

The SnowJobs Podcast
Always take the opportunity to weigh yourself.
00:01:45
RICK JAMES
Yeah.
00:01:45
The SnowJobs Podcast
Definitely. Sorry about my voice tonight. I was told I'm a little hoarse sounding. um I was yelling apparently a little too much at a hockey game. So lost the voice.
00:01:54
RICK JAMES
No, you had hockey today? Weird.
00:01:56
The SnowJobs Podcast
Yeah, hockey for the little one. i got I got her this weekend. My son is up getting his ass beat in fucking Utica. ah They went to a tough tournament, and they did not fare too well.
00:02:09

00:02:12
The SnowJobs Podcast
with her, and and the little one, she's crushing it. So good for her. but
00:02:16
RICK JAMES
Awesome. Good stuff.
00:02:17
The SnowJobs Podcast
Yeah, i'm a I don't know if it's it's probably that or I've been getting like the air the air change, the drier air coming in with my wife. you know She's from Arizona, so she keeps the house on fucking 96. you know The second the outside temperature drops below 65, she's got the heat on.
00:02:33
RICK JAMES
Oh yeah.
00:02:34
The SnowJobs Podcast
so the dry air is affecting my sinuses apparently too.
00:02:37
RICK JAMES
and Are you getting any snow up there? There's some snow around the country this week, weekend whatever.
00:02:41
The SnowJobs Podcast

00:02:45
The SnowJobs Podcast
in our usual 24 hours before we got a drop it slot we recording. But last night, Friday night, I had to send the weather pros a video saying, it's snowing here at this football game. You guys have anything? He's like, are you kidding me? I'm like, nope, not kidding.
00:03:02
The SnowJobs Podcast
I got video. I got receipts.
00:03:06
RICK JAMES
I saw it. I saw it.
00:03:07
The SnowJobs Podcast
Yep. I sent it out. Look at this shit. My daughter's like, do we have to go? Do you have to go plow? I'm like, no, we're good.
00:03:14
RICK JAMES
No.
00:03:15
The SnowJobs Podcast
But yeah, it did have a couple flakes last night for 15, 20 minutes. um It's coming, dude.
00:03:19
RICK JAMES
Yep.
00:03:20
The SnowJobs Podcast
It's coming.
00:03:21
RICK JAMES
ah Yeah, I guess so. Yeah, it's been snowing around the area today. So snowing north of me right now. So yeah, it's in the area, but whatever.
00:03:29
The SnowJobs Podcast
Did it go around you?
00:03:30
RICK JAMES
It is what it is.
00:03:31
The SnowJobs Podcast
Did it take like a huge detour around? Was it supposed to get to you?
00:03:35
RICK JAMES
ah Not really. It was north of us and it was kind of in South Dakota, I think, is where they got some. So down by Sioux Falls.
00:03:42
The SnowJobs Podcast
huh
00:03:42
RICK JAMES
So
00:03:43
The SnowJobs Podcast
I thought I saw a map. Well, i'm I'm sure I saw a weather map from a weather guy that had you guys in like two inches,

Team Top Gun Updates & Merchandise

00:03:50
The SnowJobs Podcast
but maybe not.
00:03:51
RICK JAMES
I never said, no, nothing ever said two inches here, so.
00:03:55
The SnowJobs Podcast
Okay. Oh, well, well, it is coming. Definitely. So in the spirit of that, What are we doing today? Today, guys, we got a gaggle of snow dudes with us, all right? They're coming on. They're going to discuss a snow guy's most frustrating time of year for sure. That's preseason prep time.

00:12:16

00:12:18

00:12:23
RICK JAMES
she Yeah, yeah, we will.
00:12:25
Todd Dickerson
You're have to raise your advertising fee so Jeremy can pay that electric bill with all those lights behind you
00:12:30
The SnowJobs Podcast
That thing is bright, right? It looks like nuclear-powered behind them.
00:12:36
The SnowJobs Podcast
Oh, shit.
00:12:37
RICK JAMES
Oh, shit.
00:12:38
The SnowJobs Podcast
All right, so, I mean, everybody looks like looks like they're in good spirits considering this is our most stressful time of year. How's everybody making up out with their winter prep? Everybody good to go?
00:12:50
Brandon Reilly
Yeah, we're we're good to go.
00:12:51
The SnowJobs Podcast
good it's awesome what about you robert you're juggling seasons todd how do you do it like you guys what do you do does all your equipment on the airports and stuff like that does it all stay there all year
00:12:56
Robert
Yeah, getting there little by little.
00:13:00
RICK JAMES
That's really worse.
00:13:08
Todd Dickerson
Yeah, for most of our locations, every every airport has their own equipment staged year round.
00:13:14
Todd Dickerson
So so My guys have been flying to the different different airports and mechanics and Richard Rosser, our superintendent, and getting stuff fixed or whatever the case may be. I mean, we started some of this stuff back, I mean, honestly, back in June with some of the trucks going in the dealers, some of the spreader trucks, you know, stuff like that. But, you know, thankfully with our relationship with John Deere, they get a local dealer to come out and, you know,
00:13:14
The SnowJobs Podcast
had a corral
00:13:47
Todd Dickerson
get everything checked out and all that good stuff.
00:13:51
The SnowJobs Podcast
Do you have to have guys there to get the the dealer techs to go there, or they can just go there and get on the site?
00:13:56
Todd Dickerson
it depends different airports are different you know it depends where we're where we are if we have air side you know restrictions then yes if if we can get them through like houston you can come in either land side which you have which you don't need any any credentials or you have to come in air side and we'll have to escort you in or whatever the case may be some of the some of the uh dealers
00:14:04
The SnowJobs Podcast
Okay.
00:14:13
The SnowJobs Podcast
Yep.
00:14:21
Todd Dickerson
we've been dealing with for a few years now, so we get some of those guys badged. um So it kind of just depends on location.
00:14:30
The SnowJobs Podcast
I got right, cool. Well, boys, we got a bunch of listener questions tonight about preseason stuff and prep for getting stuff ready for the year. um So let's just kick it off here and go around the room and you can take them if you want them.
00:14:41
RICK JAMES
Oh, shit.
00:14:45
The SnowJobs Podcast
ah Do you guys have a process for your machines coming out of summer storage to get them ready for snow?
00:14:53
The SnowJobs Podcast
Whoever wants to jump on it first. Brandon.
00:14:56
Brandon Reilly
All right. um So basically, well, kind we try to all summer long is transition, starting up machines, keep you know things running, running around the yard a little bit here and there. And every week, do a couple more next week, keep you know keep that cycle going ill all summer long. But June is when we really start to kick off and start to look at things.
00:15:15
Brandon Reilly
Obviously, if there's any problems with the machines, we want to mark that and get warranty or get that fixed before, right when it comes back from its winter home. So last year we had a couple recalls that right when they got back from their sites, it was here, we need to get these heaters fixed.
00:15:29
Brandon Reilly
We need to get new alternators put in, let's do it right away. Instead of putting it away and then going, hey, where's that number out of all the machines that needs an alternator and trying to dig through it.
00:15:38
The SnowJobs Podcast
Sure.
00:15:39
Brandon Reilly
So for equipment wise, that's the cycle is just kind of transitioning through, running them, getting the batteries charged so that they're good to go come October.
00:15:49
The SnowJobs Podcast
Cool. What about you, Robert?
00:15:53
Robert
As far as machines, I mean, everything that we run for winter is pretty much used all year besides anything that's rented or leased.
00:15:59
The SnowJobs Podcast
Yep.
00:16:02
Robert
So doesn't really pertain to us.
00:16:04
The SnowJobs Podcast
You're doing routine maintenance throughout the season anyway.
00:16:06
Robert
Yeah, exactly.
00:16:08
The SnowJobs Podcast
Gotcha. All right. What about you, Todd?
00:16:10
Todd Dickerson
Yeah, the equipment, i would I would agree with Brandon. We're starting around June. um we We really don't have a lot of equipment issues. It's more of vehicle issues, brake lines, hydraulic lines, the typical snow removal nightmares, right?
00:16:26
The SnowJobs Podcast
Yep.
00:16:27
Todd Dickerson
You get in the truck and...
00:16:28
The SnowJobs Podcast
Sure.
00:16:29
Todd Dickerson
Next thing you know, you're spraying brake fluid everywhere, and you're like, you know, goddammit, here we go again. ah So, you know, even though we try to rotate trucks, you know, all our guys everywhere, they they want their certain truck instead of, you know, jumping in something else.
00:16:37
Brandon Reilly
Thank you.
00:16:45
Todd Dickerson
So, you know the game goes, you know.
00:16:47
The SnowJobs Podcast
yep so do you you leave the trucks on sites all winter all summer too so everything stays gotcha cool what about you jay
00:16:52
Todd Dickerson
For the most part, yeah, yeah.
00:16:57
RICK JAMES
ah Our mechanics, our guys go through, you know, the loaders all summer and just kind of touch up touch them up, you know, service them whatever they need to do throughout the throughout the summer and get easier to get through by, get through loaders by July sometime and then they do the plows and stuff after that. But ah this time of year, I just mainly have the guys go around and probably put a battery charger on couple every day and just kind of make them around, you know, service them around so they Hopefully the batteries aren't shot because it seems like every time we go out, we got to jump a bunch.
00:17:32
RICK JAMES
So it doesn't matter if you have a master, there's still a draw. There's still a power draw somewhere that's pulling those things down. So I usually just set the maintainer on them and charge them up, I guess.
00:17:39
The SnowJobs Podcast
It's those 186 sensors.
00:17:43
RICK JAMES
That's about but it, I guess.
00:17:45
The SnowJobs Podcast
Yep. Yep, that's a huge issue. um What do you guys find is your biggest pre... This is a good one, actually. What do you guys find is your biggest preseason equipment problem that seems to show itself most years no matter what you do to stop it?
00:18:04
RICK JAMES
Electrical.
00:18:06
The SnowJobs Podcast
Brandon? Brandon?
00:18:06
Brandon Reilly
I would say for us, ah there's kind of two ways. ah For salt trucks, it's brakes. I feel like we're they just get rusty.
00:18:12
The SnowJobs Podcast
Every year. Every year.
00:18:12
Brandon Reilly
We're doing brakes every year. So they're just getting ripped off every year, no matter what we do.
00:18:14
The SnowJobs Podcast
No matter what you do.
00:18:17
Brandon Reilly
I jokingly said next year, we're going to block everything, take it all off and go store it somewhere else. um They didn't like that i that idea or that joke. um And then um for the equipment side, I'd say mice.
00:18:29
Brandon Reilly
trying to keep the machine you know mice out of the machines. it just We're finding that they're living inside all the air filter nets. They're just making big nests, and it's a pain to get rid of that smell and everything.
00:18:39
RICK JAMES
Fuck.
00:18:39
The SnowJobs Podcast
you have any yard cats?
00:18:41
Brandon Reilly
i wish. we We had one for 26 years, and then when it died, we were told we couldn't get another one. It was too traumatizing.
00:18:47
The SnowJobs Podcast
Who told you? oh
00:18:50
RICK JAMES
Oh.
00:18:50
Brandon Reilly
we got We got too attached to this cat that when it when it went, it was was sad around the shop for about a week.
00:18:50
The SnowJobs Podcast
need Dude, I'll ship you some feral cats. I'll ship you some wild cats. Where I work in the city, there's probably 30 of them, and they battle it out.
00:19:04
RICK JAMES
They're probably your rats, Steve.
00:19:06
The SnowJobs Podcast
What?
00:19:06
RICK JAMES
They're probably rats.
00:19:07
The SnowJobs Podcast
They're what?
00:19:08
RICK JAMES
They're probably rats.
00:19:09
The SnowJobs Podcast
No, dude, there are no rats. There's nothing living. There's birds everywhere, like dead birds laying there. they They jump out of the bushes and knock the birds to the ground kill them.
00:19:20
The SnowJobs Podcast
It's incredible. I'll send you a couple. ah I'll box them up, put a couple holes in the box, ship them out there.
00:19:24
RICK JAMES
yeah i i would love to see you do that.
00:19:28
Brandon Reilly
it was What's in this box?
00:19:28
The SnowJobs Podcast
If you can get them, dude. ah Let me tell you, man, they're nasty. they It's going to be tough to wrangle them.
00:19:36
RICK JAMES
They probably want to get out of New York now, too, with a new mayor.
00:19:40
The SnowJobs Podcast
Everybody's bailing, dude. Everybody's bailing.
00:19:45
RICK JAMES
to be commie.
00:19:46
The SnowJobs Podcast
oh Even the cats are going to have a rough time. Oh, man.
00:19:50
RICK JAMES
Okay.
00:19:50
The SnowJobs Podcast
Anyway, so okay, so we got mice and we got breaks. What about you, Robert?
00:19:56
Robert
I feel like it's always sand or wiring where you can take it out in September, hook everything up, everything works, fluid film. Then the night before storm, the first storm, it doesn't work.
00:20:08
Robert
Seems to be the pattern every single year.
00:20:09
The SnowJobs Podcast
Hmm.
00:20:13
The SnowJobs Podcast
Okay. I'll stay away from whatever spreaders you have. ah What about you, Todd?
00:20:19
RICK JAMES
Yeah.
00:20:20
Robert
All them.
00:20:20
The SnowJobs Podcast
Yep.
00:20:21
Todd Dickerson
um i would i would agree with all that, really. um You know, we don't have the mice issue, but we have birds nesting in like our... ah our overhausen snorkel exhaust systems.
00:20:35
The SnowJobs Podcast
yep
00:20:35
Todd Dickerson
um you know But other than that, I would say, i don't know how, but you know somehow or another, we always on every spreader have a bearing issue. And I mean, I know our mechanics take care of those super well.
00:20:52
Todd Dickerson
But ah the as soon as we get that first load of salt or potassium acetate in that thing or formate, the next thing you know you know, you go to hit the control box and here you go again.
00:21:06
Todd Dickerson
So, ah you know, it's the same thing. I mean, we all battle the exact same thing.
00:21:14
The SnowJobs Podcast
Yep. For us, it's... ah It's the same problem that we have preseason that we have midseason if we get slow for a couple of weeks with cold temperatures, but no precipitation.
00:21:27
The SnowJobs Podcast
um You go to start a machine and within 30 seconds of starting it because you did a low voltage start, you have like six different sensors throwing codes.
00:21:38
The SnowJobs Podcast
So we actually will willll charge the machines, charge the batteries fully so they get to that 14 volts. ah Because I think it's they all need draw. those There's like certain sensors, on at least on the cases that my mechanic says, they all have it like an amp draw to read properly.
00:21:56
The SnowJobs Podcast
So they all draw on that. And if you're trying to start at below 11 and a half volts, it will throw codes because it's not getting accurate reading.
00:22:04
RICK JAMES
Thank
00:22:04
The SnowJobs Podcast
So he says, always charge it up to 14. You know, if you think it's been a while since it's run or it's been really cold and it wasn't plugged in on the tender, you know, make sure you get it charged before you do it.
00:22:15
The SnowJobs Podcast
Otherwise we're going to have to hook the computer up and clear all these freaking codes. So that's our page.
00:22:18
Brandon Reilly
and We leave trickle chargers actually onto the machines.
00:22:22
The SnowJobs Podcast
Yep. We did that.
00:22:23
Brandon Reilly
All we got to do is plug them in. And so when they're plugged in on site, that's not, you know, at our shop, there's, you know, it's getting some sort of charge to that battery to keep it fresh.
00:22:25
The SnowJobs Podcast
Yep.
00:22:29
The SnowJobs Podcast
Absolutely. Noco, 59 bucks on Amazon. They make them. They make tiny little things.
00:22:34
Brandon Reilly
Napa, it's like 29, 29 bucks from Napa.
00:22:37
The SnowJobs Podcast
I love the Noco stuff. I use all Nocos. They have a, like a, it's like a two foot leash comes right out of the battery compartment and you can plug it right in there.
00:22:45
Brandon Reilly
Yep.
00:22:46
The SnowJobs Podcast
They're awesome. But yeah, that was our, that was always our biggest problem. We'd, we'd take care of these things and run them every week. But as soon as you started like October where you had nights in the forties, you know, and it started getting a couple of, know, cold nights, then you go to start it to, to do the preseason prep.
00:23:02
The SnowJobs Podcast
And all of a sudden you're throwing codes. was like, what hell it happened so often we actually spent 1200 bucks bought the uh the unit to read them and and eliminate i'm like ah we can't do this i'm not paying for a tech to come out you know we don't have the computer to reset this shit we know it's bullshit so that was ours um what else we got here jay what's yours biggest problem
00:23:26
RICK JAMES
It's pretty much same thing everybody else is saying, you know, the standard battery issues and, you know, we have some seltzer issues, but i don't think, I mean, our seltzers are usually kept pretty good. I think our issues are mainly the guys fucking with stuff. They shouldn't be messing with. I think they got to rewire factory wires and all that.
00:23:44
RICK JAMES
Like, there's a reason the factory does something the way they do it, and these guys think they're smarter than the factory, so.
00:23:50
The SnowJobs Podcast
No, I know better than the factory.
00:23:51
RICK JAMES
Yeah. Yeah, yeah, they all do.
00:23:52
The SnowJobs Podcast
I haven't met a factory yet that's better than me.
00:23:55
RICK JAMES
yeah We call one guy Mr. Digi-Key because he thinks he's got a order parts, electrical parts for everything and redo everything. But it's just...
00:24:05
The SnowJobs Podcast
ah What do you got, Todd?
00:24:07
Todd Dickerson
So one other thing we started doing was using the trickle chargers, but when you obviously have your equipment someplace without power, we went to a lot of the solar panels.
00:24:16
Brandon Reilly
Solar. Yeah.
00:24:17
RICK JAMES
Solar, yep.
00:24:17
The SnowJobs Podcast
Yeah, put the panel on the roof.
00:24:18
Todd Dickerson
you know it's Yeah, so that helps us a lot. um Where we really started using those is on the melters because those things with the telematics are constantly, you know, drawing down. So...
00:24:31
Todd Dickerson
That might be something everybody wants to look at. And and again, that's ah just an Amazon solar panel. It's nothing extravagant.
00:24:37
The SnowJobs Podcast
yep
00:24:38
Todd Dickerson
Yeah.
00:24:40
Brandon Reilly
Yeah. Our volvals, we were able to pick that as an option from the dealership to have them put on the hood for the trickle charge.
00:24:45
The SnowJobs Podcast
nice it's i mean it should every manufacturer should have that option honestly it's so stupid not to offer it this day and age battery is always the problem because even when you throw the kill switch you're still fucking draw
00:24:46
Todd Dickerson
yeah
00:24:54
RICK JAMES
Yeah, no.
00:24:57
Brandon Reilly
We should just come that way.
00:24:58
RICK JAMES
Yeah, it's still, it's still.
00:24:59
Brandon Reilly
Shouldn't an option. Just make it come that way.
00:25:00
The SnowJobs Podcast
Exactly. Well, no, that no, wait a minute.
00:25:02
RICK JAMES
Yeah. Well, yeah.
00:25:03
Brandon Reilly
These things cost an arm and a leg anyways.
00:25:03
The SnowJobs Podcast
ah right
00:25:04
Brandon Reilly
don't
00:25:05
The SnowJobs Podcast
Yeah. Pump the brakes. Why give away something for free when we can charge $450 for it? right
00:25:11
RICK JAMES
So let's yeah they went working, everything we have under shop. So it's like, it wouldn't but lastly
00:25:16
The SnowJobs Podcast
That's true. Yeah. Solar does, you know, good.
00:25:19
RICK JAMES
Less they go off the lights. I don't think that happens.
00:25:23
The SnowJobs Podcast
You got artificial lights in there.
00:25:24
Brandon Reilly
know.
00:25:24
RICK JAMES
yeah
00:25:24
Brandon Reilly
That Arctic light back there might charge them.
00:25:25
The SnowJobs Podcast
a
00:25:27
RICK JAMES
Arctic Lake could probably charge so
00:25:27
Todd Dickerson
That might charge the whole fleet.
00:25:29
The SnowJobs Podcast
Yeah, that
00:25:30
Todd Dickerson
That might charge your whole fleet.
00:25:33
RICK JAMES
me.
00:25:34
The SnowJobs Podcast
shit, dude. Somewhere at a nuclear power station, there's a guy looking at a dial that's just spinning as fast as it can to power that thing.
00:25:40
RICK JAMES
Hey.
00:25:41
Todd Dickerson
That might be the best snowmelter I've ever seen if you start.
00:25:44
RICK JAMES
yeah
00:25:44
The SnowJobs Podcast
Holy crap.
00:25:45
Todd Dickerson
So get blower.
00:25:45
RICK JAMES
ah bring it out I'll bring it up, Todd.
00:25:45
The SnowJobs Podcast
I'm actually watching. Jeremy's actually getting a tan as we speak from that light.
00:25:49
Todd Dickerson
Get that blower.
00:25:50
RICK JAMES
I should be getting a tarot. This thing's badass. Yeah.
00:25:53
The SnowJobs Podcast
Jesus.
00:25:53
Brandon Reilly
The neck's getting burnt.
00:25:55
The SnowJobs Podcast
That's it. oh man all right so this next one is i have two cat loaders that sit all summer and are fine uh but then never fail to start throwing codes when it's time to prep them for sites i think we just covered that right it's the same same as the last question that's your answer uh he said is there a way to stop it have we seen the same yeah there's your answer put it on a trickle charge make sure the battery's up
00:25:58
Todd Dickerson
sunscreen.
00:26:09
Brandon Reilly
yeah
00:26:17
RICK JAMES
or know Or always this year, usually after the first run out we've had the last couple years, we've got a lot death issues from death, you know, sitting all summer in the tank.
00:26:25
The SnowJobs Podcast
Oh, yeah, crystallizing in the tank.
00:26:28
RICK JAMES
Yeah. I don't It doesn't seem like it probably does in the line or something, but tanks usually look fine. usually end up draining the tanks and putting fresh stuff in.
00:26:37
Todd Dickerson
Yeah, we train that every
00:26:37
RICK JAMES
But...
00:26:38
Brandon Reilly
I was going to say you have ah like six months before it goes bad, right? Because once it hits air, six months and then it's rotten.
00:26:41
The SnowJobs Podcast
Yeah.
00:26:42
RICK JAMES
Yeah.
00:26:42
The SnowJobs Podcast
Yep.
00:26:43
RICK JAMES
That's what they say.
00:26:44
The SnowJobs Podcast
Yeah, apparently that goat urine has a shelf life.
00:26:45
RICK JAMES
But it's not in the...
00:26:48
RICK JAMES
Yeah. Government Jews.
00:26:54
The SnowJobs Podcast
oh shit. But yeah, if you ever, like, if you ever seen it, we we see it a lot with the rigs. ah because guys that don't give a shit, they're just putting DEF in, theyre not paying the bill, you they get a little messy.
00:27:07
The SnowJobs Podcast
That stuff crystallizes.
00:27:07
Todd Dickerson
you
00:27:08
The SnowJobs Podcast
like It really does.
00:27:09
RICK JAMES
Oh, yeah.
00:27:09
Brandon Reilly
yeah
00:27:10
The SnowJobs Podcast
If it's not moving or if it's sitting still, it crystallizes around every orifice. So imagine if there's a sensor in that tank, imagine what it's doing to that tank.
00:27:15
RICK JAMES
You ever been
00:27:19
RICK JAMES
Yeah. If you've ever been to a truck stop and seen their death fuel islands, or those things are, looks like an icicle hanging from them.
00:27:26
The SnowJobs Podcast
Yeah. I made that mistake once I filled up death from a truck stop pump in my pickup. Yep. Never again. ah was Nothing but problems for the next two months.
00:27:38
The SnowJobs Podcast
It was bad. Uh, so we covered that one. Let's see. Next one. They got one that this is actually for me, but we can all tackle it. Uh, it says, Steve, I've heard you talk about fluid film many times and what you do with it on your equipment. How far do you go with it on your machines? Do you coat the entire machine?
00:27:57
The SnowJobs Podcast
Um, Me personally, it's I'm like Frank's Red Hot, man. I put that shit on everything. like
00:28:03
RICK JAMES
Mm-hmm.
00:28:03
The SnowJobs Podcast
It goes all the way up to the windows. um And then any of the galvanized fittings there on the hydraulic lines, we'll take a rag with fluid film on it. We'll coat them.
00:28:14
The SnowJobs Podcast
Because those always seem to corrode, no matter what. you know Even if you wash it constantly, they always seem to oxidize and corrode the the fittings on the hoses. um But yeah, we go right up to the right up to the bottom part of the window with it.
00:28:29
Brandon Reilly
Yeah, same.
00:28:29
The SnowJobs Podcast
rims yep whatever's metal except for the steps to get in out of the loader we'll do the underside with a rag but never the top side
00:28:30
Brandon Reilly
All the metal, whatever's metal gets touched.
00:28:43
The SnowJobs Podcast
but anybody else with fluid film anybody else ah do use fluid film on the machines
00:28:48
Todd Dickerson
Simply.
00:28:48
RICK JAMES
We just use these spray everything like our blowers and stuff like that, you know, and when we put them away and you know, then you usually walk by them in the summer and you get rub up against them and you're covered that shit.
00:28:58
The SnowJobs Podcast
Oh, yeah.
00:28:59
RICK JAMES
Fuck.
00:28:59
The SnowJobs Podcast
Oh, yeah. I have my fluid film pants.
00:29:00
RICK JAMES
I hate that.
00:29:03
The SnowJobs Podcast
and pair of pants. Do it.
00:29:04
RICK JAMES
It's great stuff, but man, it, uh, yeah, it's, uh,
00:29:07
Brandon Reilly
I love when you like go up to something to look at something and you touch it and it's like, oh crap, this one was already done. It's just everywhere.
00:29:13
The SnowJobs Podcast
but
00:29:13
RICK JAMES
Yeah.
00:29:14
The SnowJobs Podcast
You know, you can't get it out of your pants, right? Or your shirts when when once it's on. You can't wash it enough and have it come out. Imagine how protective it is to metal. If you got to wash that thing, you got to wash a pair of jeans 16 times and it's still there.
00:29:29
The SnowJobs Podcast
You can't get it out.
00:29:30
RICK JAMES
oh
00:29:31
The SnowJobs Podcast
Crazy. ah It'll definitely save you money. We learned that the we learned that the hard way this year. ah Putting things away in the spring, we got our checklist and stuff of what we do.
00:29:42
The SnowJobs Podcast
The guys washed one of the one of the trucks and spreaders, and you know you you wash it, then you give it a day to dry, and then you come back and you film it all. You run it you know through the the chain and everything.
00:29:54
The SnowJobs Podcast
um I don't know what happened, but somehow that got checked off as being done, the the filming. It didn't get done. We watched it all and we we broke it out a couple weeks ago and they said, we're we got a problem.
00:30:10
The SnowJobs Podcast
this was This one was never filmed and the conveyor chain is eased right to the fucking sprockets and it's just ridiculous. So that fluid film will save you a lot of money and problems.
00:30:18
RICK JAMES
Do you do use the fluid film? Do you use anything else for your change or you just use fluid film for everything?
00:30:26
The SnowJobs Podcast
No, fluid film. We don't i mean we don't need to.
00:30:27
RICK JAMES
Oh.
00:30:29
The SnowJobs Podcast
we had We had to use a lot of RD blaster or whatever that break-free shit is to try and get the chain off this bracket before we cut it off. But no, just fluid films, it works for everything. it really And it stays. It's lubricating and it's protecting all in one.
00:30:46
Brandon Reilly
was gonna say, don't no we don't really spray our chain with it.
00:30:47
RICK JAMES
I can...
00:30:49
RICK JAMES
Cause back in the day we, oh, back in the day when we had one conveyor salt or, you know, like some old buyers or whatever it was.
00:30:49
The SnowJobs Podcast
The conveyor chain? Oh, we do.
00:30:51
Brandon Reilly
No.
00:30:57
RICK JAMES
And always sprayed that Romar stuff on it, that really black goofy or that goopy, what the fuck that stuff worked good.
00:31:01
The SnowJobs Podcast
Yeah, yep. ah What the hell is it called? It's not NutriWash.
00:31:06
RICK JAMES
But no, that's, that's the desalter, but it was, it was something like black fricking like, looked like oil.
00:31:06
The SnowJobs Podcast
That's a the salt. It is the, yeah.
00:31:12
The SnowJobs Podcast
Yes.
00:31:13
RICK JAMES
You just spray it on it. That stuff worked good for the chain, but yeah.
00:31:14
The SnowJobs Podcast
Yep. It does. It works very good.
00:31:18
RICK JAMES
and
00:31:18
The SnowJobs Podcast
They actually tried to get me to buy it yesterday. They're like, oh, we see you. You've got NutriWash, and what the hell is the name of the other stuff? I can't remember. I'm like, no, we only got NutriWash.
00:31:27
RICK JAMES
well salt I think we may have talked about this before. Anybody use that salt away stuff? and Obviously on Instagram, does that work pretty good or no?
00:31:34
The SnowJobs Podcast
um it works like i would say neutral wash is better but neutral wash is also four times the price of salt away so i think salt away is the same formula i just don't think it's as concentrated but i i we used it last year and it seems like it did the job just fine
00:31:47
RICK JAMES
Oh.
00:31:54
Robert
We've been using a salt neutralizer. I can't think of what it's called, but we bought it in a 55-gallon drum out of New Jersey, and I think i think it actually works.
00:32:05
Robert
I think it works.
00:32:05
The SnowJobs Podcast
That's where all toxic chemicals come from.
00:32:08
Robert
Yeah, Sean's house.
00:32:09
RICK JAMES
Yeah. so
00:32:10
Brandon Reilly
Thank you.
00:32:11
RICK JAMES
Throw in the river.
00:32:13
The SnowJobs Podcast
Oh, oh shit.
00:32:14
Todd Dickerson
So much more.
00:32:16
The SnowJobs Podcast
It worked good, though, Robert?
00:32:17
Robert
Yeah. Yeah, I think it does.
00:32:18
The SnowJobs Podcast
yeah You don't know the name?
00:32:20
Robert
I don't. I'll actually look it up now that I'm thinking about it.
00:32:24
The SnowJobs Podcast
yeah you might as well give them me a shout out if it works good.
00:32:28
Robert
Don't wait me.
00:32:28
RICK JAMES
Todd, what do have airports one you you just wash the stuff, put away or do you anything special?
00:32:29
Robert
don't know how long it's going to take.
00:32:33
RICK JAMES
I know we're just kind of jumping all over here, but.
00:32:37
Todd Dickerson
um now we use a product out of canada called salt x um it actually works pretty good um i'll be honest i'm i'm not a frontline guy there so while i watch them do it and hear the results i don't really have hands-on experience with it but the guys like it i will go back to the uh fluid film i mean we have a crew that just
00:32:37
The SnowJobs Podcast
He can't tell you. It's a secret.
00:32:57
RICK JAMES
OK.
00:33:03
Todd Dickerson
couple guys that that's all they do pretty much all summer and i know that because it costs me where Hive is everywhere and it costs us either vests or hoodies or whatever they I mean every day they're getting a new damn hoodie or vest and I'm like Jesus guys like
00:33:11
The SnowJobs Podcast
Yes. Yes.
00:33:22
Todd Dickerson
you you can wear a dirty one. It's still high vis on the back. You're leaning on the, you know, I mean, but you know, they need new every day.
00:33:27
RICK JAMES
so
00:33:30
Todd Dickerson
So, um but yeah, I mean, fluid film, we're, we're big fans of that. We have a little of our own concoction we use on some of the drag chains, but probably shouldn't talk about that.
00:33:43
Todd Dickerson
But you know, other than that, yeah, fluid film and, and Soltex is our, is our deal. There you go.
00:33:51
RICK JAMES
Hi, Viz. Top dog.
00:33:54
The SnowJobs Podcast
Top Dog. There you go.
00:33:54
Todd Dickerson
There you go.
00:33:57
RICK JAMES
I don't know where am is.
00:33:57
The SnowJobs Podcast
What do you Robert? You found the name?
00:33:59
Robert
Yeah, it's from Safe Wash Technologies.
00:34:04
The SnowJobs Podcast
And is that what it's called? Safe Wash Technologies? Or has it got a brand name?
00:34:08
Robert
I don't think it has a brand name.
00:34:10
The SnowJobs Podcast
Oh, okay.
00:34:10
RICK JAMES
Hmm.
00:34:11
The SnowJobs Podcast
Interesting.
00:34:12
Robert
Yeah.
00:34:12
Brandon Reilly
I do know around like RN, like the, the Schaefer's like fluid film version is really popular. Cause it doesn't, uh, doesn't act the same as fluid film where it's like sticky, but once it dries, it's almost like water repellent.
00:34:20
RICK JAMES
I heard that.
00:34:25
Brandon Reilly
So like when you put it on you let it cure, can throw water on it and it beads like, you know, your windshield and just fall right, love right off it.
00:34:26
The SnowJobs Podcast
Really?
00:34:33
Brandon Reilly
So I know that's pretty popular in Minnesota here.
00:34:38
Brandon Reilly
Uh, it's like, uh, you, They make everything from lubricant to the fluid film to grease.
00:34:45
The SnowJobs Podcast
Okay. All right.
00:34:47
Brandon Reilly
you know It's just like a high-end highend product.
00:34:47
The SnowJobs Podcast
Gotcha.
00:34:47
RICK JAMES
It's just a brand.
00:34:50
The SnowJobs Podcast
Gotcha. Gotcha. All right. I wasn't sure if it was like a store or something. um brand and ah Do you guys have any new equipment that you're excited to see how it performs this winter?
00:35:04
Brandon Reilly
we got a couple Cat926s that can't wait to see them see how they do, how they work.
00:35:13
The SnowJobs Podcast
Are you going back to cat?
00:35:16
Brandon Reilly
and They came in with pretty good pricing, so we took we took eight of them this year.
00:35:20
The SnowJobs Podcast
Wow. Is that a cycle thing, you think?
00:35:21
RICK JAMES
Okay.
00:35:23
The SnowJobs Podcast
Like, brands are getting tired of getting their teeth kicked in by other brands that offer lower prices so then they bring their price down as the other brands go up?
00:35:34
The SnowJobs Podcast
It seems like it's cyclical. It seems like, you know, this year John Deere's got the best prices. Oh, next year Cat's got the best prices. Then Doosan or whatever they're called now, you know they're coming in.
00:35:43
Robert
come on
00:35:45
RICK JAMES
can
00:35:47
Todd Dickerson
Great coupon.
00:35:47
The SnowJobs Podcast
What?
00:35:48
Brandon Reilly
Don't buy a Doosan. Whatever you don't buy a Doosan.
00:35:52
The SnowJobs Podcast
You can't anymore.
00:35:53
Robert
I call it a dosan.
00:35:53
The SnowJobs Podcast
They're a different name.
00:35:54
Brandon Reilly
Oh, sorry. It's not called that anymore. It's a Devlin.
00:35:57
Robert
Devlin, that's right, yeah.
00:35:57
The SnowJobs Podcast
jaling
00:35:58
Brandon Reilly
the
00:35:59
RICK JAMES
They got bobcat loaders now.
00:36:01
Brandon Reilly
Yeah, I saw that. I saw one.
00:36:03
The SnowJobs Podcast
Well, those are Devlins, right? The Bobcat loaders?
00:36:04
Brandon Reilly
No, Bobcat's separated from Devlin.
00:36:04
RICK JAMES
Yeah. it's
00:36:05
The SnowJobs Podcast
No, they're not.
00:36:08
The SnowJobs Podcast
Oh, who's making the Bobcat loader then?
00:36:11
Brandon Reilly
i think it's just Bobcat. Oh, who's making it? It's Lapier.
00:36:13
The SnowJobs Podcast
Yeah.
00:36:14
Brandon Reilly
Lapier out of Germany. Oh.
00:36:16
The SnowJobs Podcast
Oh, yeah?
00:36:16
RICK JAMES
Yeah.
00:36:16
The SnowJobs Podcast
Lee Bearer?
00:36:18
RICK JAMES
LaBear.
00:36:19
Brandon Reilly
The bear?
00:36:20
Robert
LaBeer?
00:36:20
The SnowJobs Podcast
They're pretty good, right?
00:36:21
RICK JAMES
and
00:36:21
Brandon Reilly
i I mean, that's who makes all the...
00:36:22
RICK JAMES
They make the deers. They make all the John Deere minis from 344 down, think.
00:36:23
Brandon Reilly
They make all the loaders.
00:36:27
RICK JAMES
um three forty four down i think
00:36:28
Brandon Reilly
I could be wrong on that one here. Let's see who makes...
00:36:30
RICK JAMES
I don't think they made, I thought, I thought, didn't, didn't Bobcat get bought out by like ah like a Korean company or something?
00:36:31
The SnowJobs Podcast
I thought i thought somebody said bobcat the Bobcat Big Loaders would do sounds.
00:36:39
The SnowJobs Podcast
Yeah.
00:36:40
Brandon Reilly
The bank.
00:36:43
The SnowJobs Podcast
There what?
00:36:44
RICK JAMES
Oh boy.
00:36:44
Todd Dickerson
so
00:36:44
Brandon Reilly
No, it was like ah it was like a Korean...
00:36:45
RICK JAMES
Yeah.
00:36:46
Brandon Reilly
ah
00:36:47
RICK JAMES
yeah Korean. Yeah.
00:36:48
Brandon Reilly
ah bank or something that bought Doosan and then, or was battling Doosan and Devlin when they did the whole switch.
00:36:55
The SnowJobs Podcast
Hmm.
00:36:56
RICK JAMES
Oh, oh well.
00:36:56
Brandon Reilly
Cause it used to be Bobcat and then they're separated now.
00:37:00
RICK JAMES
Have you guys ever had Komatsu, Brandon?
00:37:03
Brandon Reilly
I haven't, I had a demo in my yard for about a month. um And it was, it's ah I mean, it's a nice machine, but it just, when you get inside that cat, it's just, it's not the same
00:37:06
RICK JAMES
Yeah, you like it? Yeah,
00:37:13
RICK JAMES
the cat's got the finish. you know It's just really good. The Komatsu cab hasn't changed for 20 years, I don't think.
00:37:21
Brandon Reilly
No, yeah.
00:37:21
RICK JAMES
It's pretty much the same.
00:37:23
Brandon Reilly
It's a very old, old cab. um Same with Hitachi. They were very old in their cab design.
00:37:27
RICK JAMES
and
00:37:30
Brandon Reilly
um who else was... yeah we had I brought them all in this year to to see where we wanted to stand. and I mean, John Deere's pricing was phenomenal. If you wanted to lease a machine, they were at $2,400 month for 544 years. Yeah, it was...
00:37:43
The SnowJobs Podcast
Really?
00:37:44
Brandon Reilly
three years
00:37:45
The SnowJobs Podcast
Holy crap. That's great.
00:37:47
Brandon Reilly
yeah it was it was It shocked me. I was like, wow, you guys are here to play. we were looking for finance deals and they're little bit higher than, than cat was on the finance, but, um but still overall a nice machine for that price.
00:38:00
The SnowJobs Podcast
That's awesome. So you want, you want cat?
00:38:02
Todd Dickerson
ah John Deere Financial is getting really aggressive. I feel the Loader ah people are like in our area, all the demo companies, right demolition companies.
00:38:16
Todd Dickerson
They all sit together and they're like, all right, you're going to get this one. You're going to get this one. You're going to get this one. And they, they rotate it. Right. So my feeling, totally my opinion is, you know, cat, they all get together and they're like, all right, we're going to offer this this time.
00:38:31
Todd Dickerson
And this, this time. And everybody gets their own little piece.
00:38:32
The SnowJobs Podcast
Yeah.
00:38:33
Todd Dickerson
Right. um So exactly.
00:38:36
The SnowJobs Podcast
yeah Like it's a cycle. That's what I was saying. Yeah. It seems like it.
00:38:39
Todd Dickerson
Exactly. Yep. Yep.
00:38:41
The SnowJobs Podcast
This is your year to do.
00:38:42
RICK JAMES
Your melters are all tree can, right, Todd?
00:38:44
Brandon Reilly
cocaine.
00:38:45
RICK JAMES
Yeah.
00:38:46
Todd Dickerson
Yep.
00:38:46
RICK JAMES
yeah
00:38:46
Todd Dickerson
That's the only, honestly, that's the only real melter.
00:38:47
RICK JAMES
right got
00:38:49
Brandon Reilly
That's the only melter worth buying.
00:38:51
Todd Dickerson
Yeah.
00:38:51
RICK JAMES
Yeah.
00:38:52
Todd Dickerson
um
00:38:53
RICK JAMES
I'm never rambling.
00:38:53
Todd Dickerson
There's one, there's one coming that I'm hearing about.
00:38:54
RICK JAMES
Oh,
00:38:55
Todd Dickerson
We'll see what happens, but
00:38:57
RICK JAMES
oh inside scoop Mr. Dickerson has.
00:39:01
Todd Dickerson
eight stay tuned.
00:39:04
RICK JAMES
tuned.
00:39:05
The SnowJobs Podcast
Brandon and customs, put your tree cam back together properly.
00:39:08
Brandon Reilly
I don't know.
00:39:09
The SnowJobs Podcast
and
00:39:09
Brandon Reilly
We haven't ran it since that's we got it.
00:39:12
The SnowJobs Podcast
a
00:39:12
Todd Dickerson
What do you have, Brandon?
00:39:13
The SnowJobs Podcast
oh
00:39:14
Brandon Reilly
Uh, PD 80.
00:39:16
Todd Dickerson
one of the best best units we have.
00:39:19
Brandon Reilly
Yeah. We had a, a 60 before.
00:39:20
Todd Dickerson
If you need anything with that, let us know. I got couple certified mechanics that we can help you out with if you need it.
00:39:28
Brandon Reilly
Yeah. We, we took the, well, we were supposed to take delivery of January of the big winter here in Minnesota and then, uh, got stuck in customs. We got it delivered, uh, May 5th, 81 degrees outside. So,
00:39:40
The SnowJobs Podcast
They needed it. Customs needed it to melt all the snow at the border.
00:39:44
RICK JAMES
Jeez.
00:39:45
Todd Dickerson
That's how I got across.
00:39:47
The SnowJobs Podcast
That's it.
00:39:47
RICK JAMES
Yeah, yeah. How
00:39:48
The SnowJobs Podcast
Well, we need to test this thing to make sure it's actually a melter. yeah We're not sure.
00:39:52
Todd Dickerson
so Exactly.
00:39:54
Brandon Reilly
and What's in this fuel tank?
00:39:54
The SnowJobs Podcast
um Yeah, exactly.
00:39:57
RICK JAMES
much is this supposed to melt in our, how many yards or how do they do it?
00:39:57
The SnowJobs Podcast
no
00:40:00
RICK JAMES
Tonnes or what?
00:40:02
Todd Dickerson
80 tons an hour.
00:40:03
RICK JAMES
Tons? 80 tons?
00:40:03
Todd Dickerson
If you get good at it, you can get that up to 120.
00:40:07
RICK JAMES
Whoa.
00:40:08
Todd Dickerson
Yeah.
00:40:08
Brandon Reilly
And the snow the snow matters too, right? fresh Melting fresh snow versus melting like frozen pile stuff.
00:40:14
Todd Dickerson
Yeah. But honestly, that 80 is a workhorse, dude.
00:40:14
RICK JAMES
Oh, yeah
00:40:17
Todd Dickerson
You'll love it. ah I don't know if you've used it yet or not, but, um,
00:40:20
Brandon Reilly
no
00:40:21
The SnowJobs Podcast
No, they haven't got any snow in two years.
00:40:21
Brandon Reilly
no
00:40:22
Todd Dickerson
Oh, you just got it you just got it this May.
00:40:22
RICK JAMES
yeah.
00:40:25
Brandon Reilly
Nope. Nope. No, we got it two years ago, but we got two bad winners last two years.
00:40:30
Todd Dickerson
Yeah. no i
00:40:31
RICK JAMES
You didn't fill it up in your shop and you use it as a hot tub or anything?
00:40:33
Todd Dickerson
No, The only downside to the 80 that I see is it's a permanent load because it's wide.
00:40:42
Brandon Reilly
Mm-hmm.
00:40:43
Todd Dickerson
But, I mean, other than that, I'm telling you that things are workhorse. So...
00:40:48
Todd Dickerson
I would never buy anything under that, um except for maybe their 15 LP, which is for the top of parking garages.
00:40:48
The SnowJobs Podcast
Very cool.
00:40:51
Brandon Reilly
yeah
00:40:57
Todd Dickerson
um But that's...
00:40:59
Brandon Reilly
Is that the one, the like trailer unit for like a 2500 pickup?
00:41:00
The SnowJobs Podcast
Thank you.
00:41:03
Todd Dickerson
Yep. Yep. um we have We have one of those right now at one of the three-letter buildings, and and it does really well. um But I'm telling you, if i had if you were holding a gun to my head and said, you got to buy one, I'd buy the 80 again.
00:41:17
Todd Dickerson
i mean, we got two or three of those. um And then, you know, we go up from there. But that 80...
00:41:24
Brandon Reilly
If
00:41:24
RICK JAMES
So what are they over 10, 10 feet wide and then, or what, is that why you got a permanent?
00:41:27
Todd Dickerson
Yeah, it's over 10.
00:41:27
RICK JAMES
um
00:41:29
Todd Dickerson
so
00:41:30
RICK JAMES
Okay.
00:41:30
Todd Dickerson
um But you know hopefully you can sneak out without getting any any problems or yeah don't have any issues.
00:41:39
The SnowJobs Podcast
Snow melting is done at night.
00:41:39
Brandon Reilly
we pull it behind our 644, no one will question it.
00:41:42
The SnowJobs Podcast
Yeah. Snow melting is done at night.
00:41:43
RICK JAMES
Yeah. You got to push her on the front of the 644.
00:41:45
Brandon Reilly
but
00:41:45
RICK JAMES
You're good. Where
00:41:47
Brandon Reilly
That's a 10, 10, 20.
00:41:48
The SnowJobs Podcast
oh
00:41:48
Brandon Reilly
Have a question.
00:41:49
RICK JAMES
where are going to, where are you going to use that brand then?
00:41:49
Brandon Reilly
have a We have a couple of clients that's built into their contracts. So they get two melts, two melts a season. And then um other clients, if they want to, we can move it wherever.
00:41:57
RICK JAMES
Oh.
00:41:59
Brandon Reilly
just depends on the season.
00:42:01
The SnowJobs Podcast
Nice.
00:42:01
RICK JAMES
Gotcha.
00:42:02
Brandon Reilly
Give them the option instead of a blowback or a pushback, just melt it, make it all disappear.
00:42:07
RICK JAMES
Yeah.
00:42:07
The SnowJobs Podcast
Gotcha. You know, let's hit some commercials real quick. We'll be back in a minute.
00:43:17
The SnowJobs Podcast
All right, guys, we're back. Got a couple more of these here for the boys. Let's see how many we can get through. oh ah Skid steer snow tires.
00:43:29
The SnowJobs Podcast
Are they a must? And if they are a must, do you have to go with the tall, thin ones, or can you go with a normal size construction tire with a radial pattern?
00:43:39
Brandon Reilly
Go with the nineteen five s at a minimum.
00:43:42
The SnowJobs Podcast
Yep.
00:43:44
RICK JAMES
Yeah.
00:43:45
Brandon Reilly
And then just recap them.
00:43:45
The SnowJobs Podcast
Yep. Are they a must? Are they a must in Minnesota, Brandon?
00:43:48
Brandon Reilly
Oh, for sure.
00:43:49
RICK JAMES
Yes.
00:43:50
Brandon Reilly
i I wouldn't.
00:43:50
RICK JAMES
Yes.
00:43:50
The SnowJobs Podcast
Yep.
00:43:52
Brandon Reilly
That's why it's so crazy. Skid tires, like snow skid tires were so popular. And then it took a long time for wheel loaders to kick in, you know, to become popular.
00:43:56
The SnowJobs Podcast
Mm hmm.
00:43:59
Brandon Reilly
And it's like, we've been doing skids forever. why aren't people thinking about the bigger loaders? And now everyone's doing bigger load bigger loaders and compacts.
00:44:06
The SnowJobs Podcast
Not everyone.
00:44:09
RICK JAMES
Yeah, I mean, I'm i'm nervous about our, all we got a bunch of lease loaders for the winter and they don't have snow tires and I'm just like, ah, snow tires, once you have them, you just have to have them.
00:44:19
The SnowJobs Podcast
It's very hard to go back.
00:44:20
Brandon Reilly
NTS. And then just, you have to swap them. Yeah.
00:44:24
The SnowJobs Podcast
Yeah. oh Oh, Robert.
00:44:28
RICK JAMES
Todd, are you going to get some Todd? Have you guys figured if you're going to get some loader snow tires?
00:44:31
The SnowJobs Podcast
Oh, yeah, let's hear.
00:44:33
Todd Dickerson
Yeah, we we're working on that right now.
00:44:36
The SnowJobs Podcast
Oh.
00:44:36
RICK JAMES
Nice, nice.
00:44:36
Todd Dickerson
yeah There's only so much time in the day, boys.
00:44:37
The SnowJobs Podcast
It's true.
00:44:38
Todd Dickerson
I can't, you know.
00:44:41
The SnowJobs Podcast
Robert, you have any tire skids?
00:44:41
RICK JAMES
We have no problem spending your money, Todd. We'll spend it. i mean
00:44:46
The SnowJobs Podcast
Robert, you have any tire skids?
00:44:49
Robert
Uh, no. All tracks.
00:44:50
The SnowJobs Podcast
You don't. All tracks. Okay.
00:44:51
Robert
And they're just bar-style tracks, which they seem to be pretty decent.
00:44:52
The SnowJobs Podcast
you
00:44:56
The SnowJobs Podcast
Okay.
00:44:58
Brandon Reilly
The big thing is just to get them recapped.
00:44:58
The SnowJobs Podcast
Um...
00:44:59
Brandon Reilly
I think that's where people are missing out on spending a lot of money on snow tires. when once Once you get the rim, you just get the thing recapped with a grip or two style or whatever your commercial tire company recommends for a good grip.
00:45:13
Brandon Reilly
And then save yourself a fortune instead of buying new rubber every time.
00:45:16
The SnowJobs Podcast
So that's interesting you said that because the other day I actually said that to the tire company here. Like, I want these recapped. And they told me, we don't recap. You're not in the Midwest.
00:45:26
Brandon Reilly
Oh, I didn't know that was only a Midwest thing.
00:45:28
The SnowJobs Podcast
I guess. I didn't know either.
00:45:29
RICK JAMES
Wow.
00:45:30
The SnowJobs Podcast
I'm like, i Brandon Riley told me about it, so I know I can do it. like He's like, we don't re you don't recap tires here. I'm like, oh.
00:45:36
Brandon Reilly
Yeah, because I just yeah ah just looked up, well, I just got pricing on doing some, and it's $2.50 a tire versus you know buying a new set of Snow Wolves.
00:45:36
The SnowJobs Podcast
Okay.
00:45:36
RICK JAMES
but wow Yeah.
00:45:36
The SnowJobs Podcast
Sure.
00:45:43
The SnowJobs Podcast
Sure.
00:45:43
Brandon Reilly
What's that, like $2,500? Okay.
00:45:46
The SnowJobs Podcast
I don't know, but even the knockoff ones I just got quoted the other day are $1,600 a set.
00:45:53
Brandon Reilly
okay
00:45:54
The SnowJobs Podcast
Yeah.
00:45:55
RICK JAMES
Recaps. Somebody's got to recap them around you.
00:45:56
The SnowJobs Podcast
Yeah.
00:45:58
Brandon Reilly
Yeah. Try a different, try try a different tire.
00:46:00
The SnowJobs Podcast
I'll find it.
00:46:00
Brandon Reilly
Like try to find the biggest tire or like a semi tire company that sells to semis.
00:46:01
The SnowJobs Podcast
Oh,
00:46:05
Brandon Reilly
That's where, that's where we found them.
00:46:06
The SnowJobs Podcast
yeah, yeah, yeah. So, like, Inner City. Yep, got it.
00:46:08
Brandon Reilly
Yep.
00:46:09
The SnowJobs Podcast
I'll try that.
00:46:10
RICK JAMES
Yeah, Inner City, that's the one.
00:46:11
Brandon Reilly
Cause think about it.
00:46:11
RICK JAMES
Yeah,
00:46:11
Brandon Reilly
Like, i mean, on your, on your, your big rigs on your, as long as the steer tires are normal tires, you can put recaps on the rears on the dualies legally.
00:46:20
The SnowJobs Podcast
10-4.
00:46:20
Brandon Reilly
So someone's got to be recapping them.
00:46:23
The SnowJobs Podcast
Oh, yeah,
00:46:24
RICK JAMES
I hate recaps. On some ways, they wreck everything when they fucking blow out. They wreck everything in sight.
00:46:33
Brandon Reilly
Just saying it's someone's doing it.
00:46:36
RICK JAMES
I'm not... You see them on the interstate everywhere.
00:46:37
The SnowJobs Podcast
There's a lot of things people do.
00:46:39
Brandon Reilly
go faster.
00:46:42
The SnowJobs Podcast
Oh, my God. ah Yes, if you're asking me, skid steer snow tires are definitely a must, especially if you have longer pushes and heavier snow. um They definitely are. The whole read the the part of the question, do you have to go with the tall, thin ones?
00:46:58
Brandon Reilly
go faster
00:46:58
The SnowJobs Podcast
ah Yes, for two reasons. You're buying these tires for traction. The whole way you're getting more traction is by putting all the weight of that machine on a much thinner surface.
00:47:10
The SnowJobs Podcast
So it's it doesn't it doesn't have as much float on the tire as like a wider construction tire. So, yes, you want as thin as possible. If I could get bicycle tires that would handle the weight, I would have bicycle tires on there.
00:47:19
Robert
Okay.
00:47:22
The SnowJobs Podcast
All right. You want the thin ones. All right.
00:47:24
Brandon Reilly
I've heard of guys going up to like even on them.
00:47:24
The SnowJobs Podcast
Go with it. Yeah.
00:47:27
RICK JAMES
yeah I got a guy that does that. They go really fast.
00:47:29
The SnowJobs Podcast
It adds like, yeah.
00:47:30
RICK JAMES
They go way faster.
00:47:31
Brandon Reilly
yeah it gets It gets close to like 14.
00:47:33
The SnowJobs Podcast
Yeah.
00:47:33
RICK JAMES
Yeah.
00:47:33
The SnowJobs Podcast
It adds a couple miles an hour easily. Yeah.
00:47:36
RICK JAMES
There ain't much room between them though. I tell you that one.
00:47:38
Brandon Reilly
let's When I found it, I was like, wow, how do you have the, like with 19 fives, there's barely a gap. I can't imagine 22.
00:47:45
The SnowJobs Podcast
They look so ridiculous, though, when you're looking at them with those on them.
00:47:45
RICK JAMES
Yeah.
00:47:49
The SnowJobs Podcast
but that i That I don't understand, because even the 19-5s at some point, it sometimes depends if you're on slopes and stuff, are tippy.
00:47:49
Brandon Reilly
And how tippy are they being there?
00:47:51
RICK JAMES
ah you You're good. We have an ASU.
00:47:59
The SnowJobs Podcast
Yeah, when you're getting herky-jerky.
00:47:59
RICK JAMES
We have both. What's a slope?
00:48:02
The SnowJobs Podcast
Yeah, exactly. Flatlander. That's it. Yeah.
00:48:07
Todd Dickerson
Better than a flat liner.
00:48:08
RICK JAMES
lots to
00:48:09
The SnowJobs Podcast
that's it
00:48:09
RICK JAMES
Yeah, flatline.
00:48:10
The SnowJobs Podcast
um
00:48:12
RICK JAMES
Can't wait.
00:48:13
The SnowJobs Podcast
yep so yeah i would say they're a definite must like i said especially if you have longer pushes and heavier snow they will definitely help you make sure that uh you can get where you're going uh what else what other pre-season stuff that's all the listener quote i could go dig up some more out of the the file but that's all the listener questions i pulled what else you guys got for pre-season stuff what tips does ladc have
00:48:38
Brandon Reilly
I think our biggest thing is that once stuff gets back, we start to categorize stuff into sections. So if, you know, pushers, if this pusher is literally good to go, it goes into one section.
00:48:48
Brandon Reilly
If this pusher has got broken blocks or edges are too low, it goes into one.
00:48:51
RICK JAMES
Thank you.
00:48:52
Brandon Reilly
um And then just trying to, you know, hydraulic salters. If this one's got a leaking motor, it it goes to a pile where it's like, hey, that's now over the summer, that pile might get mixed up and you forget because some guy went in there and decided to put all of them together. And now you had this nice,
00:49:07
Brandon Reilly
section of ready to go salters and then all of a sudden you don't over here and now you're trying to figure out which ones are leaking and all that stuff
00:49:07
The SnowJobs Podcast
yeah yep
00:49:14
The SnowJobs Podcast
do the same thing like possibly fucked totally fucked completely fucked all different sections oh shit what you got rick james what do you what other preseason tips you got for guys
00:49:19
Brandon Reilly
yep
00:49:25
Robert
Thank you.
00:49:30
RICK JAMES
I'm just... It's the same old stuff. You know, you try to look over everything and like we' we've been talking about it. I mean, it's inevitable that shit's going to happen that first night out. We all know that. You just got to be somewhat prepared and hopefully... Hopefully you have the parts on hand or you can get through it. Honestly, this time of year, it's hiring employees and training guys and stuff like that. That's probably the busiest part right now or learning... You know, trying to teach guys...
00:49:59
RICK JAMES
Try to get guys in to give a little heads up on running like the Arctic and stuff like that, which we got to talk about that off offline about that video we got to So, so yeah.
00:50:13
RICK JAMES
So that's, I don't know.
00:50:13
The SnowJobs Podcast
Yes, sir.
00:50:15
RICK JAMES
It's just, just your normal preseason. You think you got everything. Everybody always thinks around. I can't speak for everyone, but at least I'm like, yeah, I mean, we ah we all think we're ready.
00:50:23
The SnowJobs Podcast
No, you're right. You're onto it. Go ahead. You're right.
00:50:28
RICK JAMES
Right. Which we, we, we feel we are, but we all know that first night shit's going to hit that fan. No matter how ready you are, you're going to, You know, if shit happened that you didn't think would happen or you thought somebody fixed that and they didn't fix it, you know, it's just, it is what it is.
00:50:41
The SnowJobs Podcast
yeah
00:50:44
RICK JAMES
It's just the way it goes.
00:50:44
The SnowJobs Podcast
You're only 90% ready ever. You're only ever 90% ready. Cause as soon as the snow is coming, you're like, fuck, I can't believe I forgot that.
00:50:49
Brandon Reilly
Thank
00:50:52
The SnowJobs Podcast
I can't believe I didn't do this.
00:50:52
RICK JAMES
But that's the problem with snow. You can't, It's like you have a scheduled start date where you can have everything ready.
00:50:58
The SnowJobs Podcast
No, a hundred percent.
00:50:58
RICK JAMES
You can have everything staked. You can have everything this and that. I mean, there's nothing scheduled about it. So that's what makes it. And that's why we're all here too, because apparently we like this this inconsistency of work.
00:51:12
RICK JAMES
We like to work 24-7 and, I don't know, be stupid.
00:51:16
The SnowJobs Podcast
were morons. 2006.
00:51:17
Brandon Reilly
I mean, we make we make everyone watch that Arctic training video that they made 10, 15 years ago.
00:51:17
The SnowJobs Podcast
Yep.
00:51:22
RICK JAMES
Yeah.
00:51:23
Brandon Reilly
I mean, that's in our training.
00:51:23
The SnowJobs Podcast
two thousand
00:51:23
RICK JAMES
I send that out too.
00:51:24
The SnowJobs Podcast
thanks
00:51:24
Brandon Reilly
We make everyone watch it every single year, and it doesn't matter. They still... They're still going to push in the piles and break the pucks. And then it's like, hey, we put the limiters on, so we think we're saving. hey we're going to save all this money.
00:51:35
Brandon Reilly
But then if the guy still decides to use the plow like a traditional bulldozer, he's still going to break pucks. He's just going to break the top ones instead of the bottoms. It's like these limiters are here to help you prevent the breaking of the pucks, but you still have to use the plow how it's designed to be used.
00:51:44
The SnowJobs Podcast
yeah
00:51:51
Brandon Reilly
You cannot just smash piles.
00:51:53
The SnowJobs Podcast
putting limiters on me i'll show you oh they think they're gonna stop this they're not gonna stop it ah that's great dude holy shit
00:51:56
RICK JAMES
yeah Yeah, I have all those too. Yeah.
00:52:12
The SnowJobs Podcast
all right and anybody got anything else
00:52:19
Robert
No. Just keep pushing.
00:52:23
The SnowJobs Podcast
Oh, there he goes again. Gotcha.
00:52:24
RICK JAMES
yeah
00:52:24
Brandon Reilly
I mean, Jeremy nailed it Like right now, it's it's more of just training guys, getting them in the processes, making sure they're using whatever apps you're running, making sure they have that part down. um If there's any troubleshooting for equipment that they figured that part out, or so it's all that stuff right now.
00:52:40
The SnowJobs Podcast
Gotcha.
00:52:40
RICK JAMES
Yeah.
00:52:41
Todd Dickerson
Yeah, I mean, it's all full-standing, full-time, fantastic.
00:52:41
RICK JAMES
just Get everything marked. Get all your plow red steaks out. get you know just just a i don't
00:52:51
RICK JAMES
You're prepared, but you're always not prepared, I guess.
00:52:55
Brandon Reilly
Yeah.
00:52:55
RICK JAMES
I don't know how you end up.
00:52:55
Brandon Reilly
Yep.
00:52:55
The SnowJobs Podcast
You're never, i mean, no as prepared as you are, you're always going to forget something or you're always going to have to redo something. It doesn't matter. you Everybody's the same. We're all dealing with the same shit burger.
00:53:07
The SnowJobs Podcast
I don't care. All I want to do before December 1st is get through, do enough that I can get through the first event if it comes that early.
00:53:17
RICK JAMES
And then figure out what you need to do after that.
00:53:18
The SnowJobs Podcast
Exactly. And then, okay, then then we're full on. By December 1st, we're full on. But if we get a November event, all right, boys, let's get out there with enough that we can make this look good and get it done.
00:53:28
RICK JAMES
Just make it happen.
00:53:29
The SnowJobs Podcast
Yeah, we're we're just going to make it happen, and this shit's going to be melted by four hours after it stops anyway, but let's get out there and get it done, ah you know, to our quality.
00:53:38
RICK JAMES
We've pushed a shit ton snow in November here and October before, but.
00:53:41
The SnowJobs Podcast
We generally don't.
00:53:43
RICK JAMES
Yeah, but I mean, it's, I mean, so it's it is what it is.
00:53:44
The SnowJobs Podcast
Here we don't.
00:53:47
RICK JAMES
You make it work. That's what we're in That's, we all know what, what we're doing. We just, just on different scales, some of us, and it it is what it is.
00:53:58
RICK JAMES
You get it done. And like you say, you adjust for the next one. It doesn't matter if it's the middle of winter, you're always adjusting. You're always six tweaking something, trying to make it better. That's, that's just how we roll. So I guess.
00:54:08
The SnowJobs Podcast
Absolutely.
00:54:08
Todd Dickerson
Yeah, I don't think there's any secret sauce, right? It's just experience, experience, experience, you know?
00:54:13
The SnowJobs Podcast
Absolutely.
00:54:14
Todd Dickerson
And, ah you know, I used to walk into my my director of ops in years past and I'd be like, where are we? And he's like, we're 100%. And I'm like, you're a fool. We're never 100%, you know?
00:54:26
Todd Dickerson
um
00:54:27
The SnowJobs Podcast
A bullshit?
00:54:27
Todd Dickerson
Yeah. Yeah. I'm like, oh oh, okay, we're 100% sure.
00:54:30
RICK JAMES
Oh shit.
00:54:33
Todd Dickerson
um And inevitably, break lines, something goes down and I'm like, hey, that 100% was great. Thanks for update.
00:54:41
The SnowJobs Podcast
Yeah.
00:54:42
Todd Dickerson
But you know you just gotta you just gotta to figure it out. And when when it happens, you can't you can't get upset with it. You just gotta to you gotta to roll with it, right?
00:54:53
Todd Dickerson
Roll with the punches and go with it.
00:54:53
The SnowJobs Podcast
yeah
00:54:54
RICK JAMES
yeah
00:54:55
Todd Dickerson
It's like, you know, Brandon and I were talking about before everybody got on here, like, you know, what, what's going to happen? What's the, you know, the weather that, that they say we're going to get, you know, you don't get, you know, especially this early in the year. I mean, they're talking about snow stuff here on, on this coming Tuesday. And I'm like, there's no way that's going to happen. Like, come on, you know?
00:55:19
Todd Dickerson
But yeah. but
00:55:21
The SnowJobs Podcast
No, it's happening.
00:55:22
Todd Dickerson
Yeah, you just got to adjust.
00:55:23
The SnowJobs Podcast
Because you don't want it. Because you don't want it.
00:55:25
Todd Dickerson
I mean, I don't want it. I don't want it.
00:55:27
The SnowJobs Podcast
but Exactly.
00:55:28
Todd Dickerson
I like Thanksgiving, you know. Let's let's get to Thanksgiving.
00:55:34
RICK JAMES
yeah
00:55:34
The SnowJobs Podcast
Yeah, anybody out there that's stressing right now because you're trying to do everything right and not one thing is going your way, that's just snow. That's every guy at one point or another during every fucking season.
00:55:43
Todd Dickerson
you.
00:55:47
The SnowJobs Podcast
So you're not alone. Just keep ah keep banging away and get it done. it's ah It's frustrating as hell, but it's a lot of fun, too.
00:55:58
The SnowJobs Podcast
And you meet a lot of semi-cool dudes.
00:56:01
RICK JAMES
yeah
00:56:01
Brandon Reilly
Yeah.
00:56:02
Todd Dickerson
one When does that start?
00:56:02
Brandon Reilly
Like-minded people.
00:56:04
The SnowJobs Podcast
That's it. Yeah, we're all in the same loony bin together.
00:56:10
The SnowJobs Podcast
All right. Anybody got anything else before we wrap it?
00:56:14
Robert
No?
00:56:14
RICK JAMES
I think so.
00:56:15
Todd Dickerson
Did Sean send any food since he didn't show up for this thing?
00:56:15
Brandon Reilly
so.
00:56:19
The SnowJobs Podcast
Sean bailed, man. i don't know. he he had He was upset because his wife went dress shopping and left them with his kids.
00:56:26
Todd Dickerson
Direct shopping for him or for her?
00:56:28
The SnowJobs Podcast

00:56:29
RICK JAMES
She's getting remarried.
00:56:30
Robert

00:56:33
The SnowJobs Podcast
I love it.
00:56:33
