Freddy's Fridays (2023)

This week on the Everything Actioncast, with Five Nights at Freddy's 2 hitting theaters, Zach and Chris dive into one of FNAF's knockoffs, 2023's Freddy's Fridays.

Coming from some of the same team behind the Winnie the Pooh: Blood Honey series, Freddy's Fridays finds a man named Todd Fischer (Jase Rivers) luring sex workers into a creepy murder basement and then forcing them to read Latin text, which summons Freddy (Abu Barry) and his gang of monsters to kill them.  Todd made a deal with Freddy for financial gain, but the cost is nine souls, each sacrificed on a Friday.  The only person seemingly investigating is police officer Lila Jones (Danielle Scott), who eventually goes undercover to find out what's happening to all the missing women.  Zach and Chris discuss whether Freddy and his gang are demons or animatronics, how Todd found his murder warehouse, why Lila's influencer flatmate is a better investigator than the actual police, why Freddy starts breaking his own rules, and more.

You can watch Freddy's Fridays on Tubi or The Roku Channel.  Next week, we're heading into the Amazon to revisit Anaconda as the meta remake is coming out later this month, and the original is getting a new 4K release.

Introduction and Overview of Freddy's Fridays

Zach Sheets
Hello and welcome to the Everything Action Cast podcast week of December 1st, 2025. your host, Zach.
00:00:26
Chris Prime
I'm your co-host, Chris.
00:00:28
Zach Sheets
And this week we are digging into one of several Five Nights at Freddy's knockoffs because Five Nights at Freddy's 2 is in theaters, if you're hearing this. Hopefully we're looking to to replicate the hits of the first movie.
00:00:45
Zach Sheets
But there's been, yeah, several you something as popular as Friday Night Freddy's has like a bunch of knockoffs and competitors. There's been Willy's Wonderland. There's been the Banana Splits movie.
00:00:55
Zach Sheets
But we watched 2023's Freddy's Fridays. An insanely obscure British movie that is you know obviously on Tubi because but this is like the perfect Tubi movie.

Review of Freddy's Fridays: Plot and Production Challenges

00:01:12
Chris Prime
Yeah, it's it feels like a lost media movie they made a movie about this.
00:01:25
Chris Prime
like Some other country made a movie about this little too late. It
00:01:29
Zach Sheets
Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm.
00:01:32
Chris Prime
like it just got popular, whatever they're from, and then they wanted to cash in. But when you find out this movie was made almost like a year after the Five Nights at Freddy movie, maybe less.
00:01:49
Chris Prime
Within that some some time span that Five Nights Freddy was a global phenomenon. And then they only waited until, I guess, the live action movie came out. And then this production company...
00:02:03
Chris Prime
got onto the idea to make a movie in what feels like, i don't know, like a week. They they made a Five Nights at Freddy's student film project.
00:02:15
Zach Sheets
Oh, wait, this came out the same... Yeah, this came out basically like like exact the exact same time as like the first Freddy's and Freddy's movies. because like The first Freddy's and Freddy's movie was October 27th. IMDb says this came out on October 20th.
00:02:29
Chris Prime
That is embarrassing. Like, did they film this in September? And they're like, oh, shit.
00:02:34
Zach Sheets
So this this seems this feels like an and so an asylum kind of mockbuster thing of like, we're going trick grandmas into getting this for their kids. It's like, oh, you this is Freddy's, right? This is the Freddy you kids like.
00:02:49
Chris Prime
And again, it's we're only bashing it because like I'm starting to bash it early. just because it just doesn't have a coherent plot.
00:03:02
Chris Prime
I'm not going to say that the actors are bad or anything that's just questionable. it It feels rushed, and they did not have time for reshoots.
00:03:14
Chris Prime
And you feel that with this movie. And then I don't like we've never made a movie. So I don't know what happens when you are like halfway through or more and you just can't go back or you film things out of order.
00:03:29
Chris Prime
Or whatever ego reason you you just refuse to fix obvious parts of your movie.

Comparative Analysis: Freddy's Fridays vs. Other Horror Films

00:03:37
Zach Sheets
Or you only have certain locations for x amount of days and then you can't go back there again.
00:03:43
Zach Sheets
you're just kind of stuck.
00:03:44
Chris Prime
Yeah.
00:03:45
Zach Sheets
Well, we can't go back to that apartment anymore. I guess we just have to use all the footage we shot the that apartment, even though maybe it doesn't make sense in the plot. But edit it. We'll find it in the editing.
00:03:57
Chris Prime
And then they couldn't rent a restaurant to do a real finance at Freddy. i understand if they tried to one one to one so like follow the same beats. It's really feasible that you can what without Having, I don't know, a lawyer send a cease and desist.
00:04:18
Chris Prime
But there are other movies like this in the genre. And have at least stuck with the core structure. Even if they're not great. I feel like we both all agree that we know where they're inspired by. Because 5-Navs at Freddy was just ahead of the curve of killer animatronics. Even though it's not super original.
00:04:44
Zach Sheets
Yeah, like Willy's Wonderland is set at a pizza place and it has killer robots. Mm-hmm.
00:04:50
Chris Prime
Done. That's like 70% of the work right there. In fact, you don't even get to care why Nick Cage is there. It's like he's there for gas money.
00:05:00
Zach Sheets
Mm-hmm.
00:05:02
Chris Prime
The Banana Splits movie? It honestly is the second best Finance Freddie thing, if not the best to me, just because I grew up watching the Banana Splits.
00:05:13
Zach Sheets
Mm-hmm.
00:05:13
Chris Prime
So where, like, that was totally fine for a re dark, gritty reboot. And they were tongue-in-cheek about it. And it was aware that it wasn't supposed to be serious. Everyone's having fun. Check out these, like, you came here for just the ridiculous scene, so they're going to lean on how ridiculous it is.
00:05:37
Chris Prime
This is the example of it all going wrong, where You have no relatable premise. You have no relatable IP characters.
00:05:48
Chris Prime
You have a limited, limited amount of of settings to tell the story. And they don't make the best of it.
00:05:58
Zach Sheets
Well, the only thing that kind of makes it like close to Finances of Freddy's is that the main leader of like like the villains is named Freddy.
00:06:09
Zach Sheets
and he's a i guess yeah i guess he's Frederic, but then everyone calls him Freddy.
00:06:09
Chris Prime
Frederick?
00:06:14
Zach Sheets
And he's an animal-esque being. And there's four of them. there's like there's there's There's like four main villains.
00:06:26
Chris Prime
So there are parts where I was genuinely surprised. It feels like this was either done by a different director or they suddenly blew their money on these few things.
00:06:38
Chris Prime
But Fred, the main villain that they made, isn't bad. It's just that they spent all the money on the head. So there's no robotic movement to anyone.
00:06:52
Chris Prime
So you don't... yeah we did' We kind of didn't know that it was supposed to be a killer animatronic.
00:06:59
Zach Sheets
Are they? Because it goes it seems like it seems like they're demons.
00:07:01
Chris Prime
Well...
00:07:03
Zach Sheets
It seems like they're being summoned by Necronomicon-esque book, and they're they're like the evil... like They're like Cenobites or something. They summon by the book, and then they kill whoever summons them.
00:07:15
Chris Prime
Yep. Actually, this is closer to a Hellraiser than it is to a Five Nights at Freddy's movie. If you made this as a Hellraiser spinoff, it would actually line up a lot better.
00:07:27
Zach Sheets
It's probably better than the last those like those last couple ones that were straight to video. They didn't have... What's-his-name in it?
00:07:36
Zach Sheets
like the the the main head Like, the main pinhead. They just got, like, the the knockoff pinhead.
00:07:38
Chris Prime
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
00:07:41
Chris Prime
But we both enjoyed the new Hellraiser reboot movie. we
00:07:44
Zach Sheets
Hulu one. Yeah, was pretty good.
00:07:45
Chris Prime
That was pretty good. like It's everything you wanted. It wasn't exactly... The crazy pun filled. Or notive even pun filled. Just more like sassy pinhead. That we've seen in other.
00:07:59
Chris Prime
Other forms. But. We had no problem with the direction. And and the tone. So. When we get to.
00:08:09
Chris Prime
Watching this. Our expectations were pretty low.
00:08:12
Zach Sheets
Mm-hmm.
00:08:12
Chris Prime
Because. it we Even if you see the cover. And don't see the movie. The movie is somehow worse than you think. i just because when we watched the trailer, we we really lowered the bar, and then the trailer pretty much tells you, I don't know, like 90% of the movie.
00:08:32
Zach Sheets
Mm-hmm.
00:08:35
Chris Prime
And somehow, when watching it, it's worse than that.
00:08:38
Zach Sheets
It also has, like, even stuff like the font is super generic. Like, it's not an interesting font. And yeah, like it like kind look it looks like they shot it on, like, an iPhone.
00:08:49
Chris Prime
And that's why I'm like, you find out when you hear this movie is from two years ago, you're just

Knockoff Film Productions and Public Domain Exploitation

00:08:56
Chris Prime
amazed at. Again, if they said they made this movie in three weeks, this isn't a bad three week like student project film.
00:09:05
Chris Prime
But if you're like, oh, no, someone tried. They got investors. They did a publicity night for this. like It's not that kind of movie.
00:09:14
Zach Sheets
who Well, but this came out, this is coming out like the, like the factory that's making all of those, like public domain movies.
00:09:25
Zach Sheets
So, so like Jagged Edge Pitch Productions. So that they make, they made the Wayne the Pooh movies. They made Bambi, they made Bambi the Reckoning. They made, like a Jack Frost horror movie. They made like a Krampus movie.
00:09:38
Zach Sheets
like It's like anything that's not they don't need a license for or like a public domain or just like like a general idea like dinosaurs
00:09:47
Zach Sheets
or sharks.
00:09:49
Chris Prime
Oh. It's like generic MacGuffin, and then you get a plot from, i don't know, just vote the, like, someone's, like, tweet.
00:10:02
Chris Prime
You know, like, it feels like that.
00:10:03
Zach Sheets
Yeah. Yeah.
00:10:04
Chris Prime
Like, it it it's unfortunate because we can only judge it on what we saw. I really want to stress that it movie making is hard, but this makes it seem like a lot of people can do it.
00:10:19
Zach Sheets
This company definitely feels like they're in the same like arena as the the the Asylum. They're cranking out stuff that kind of looks like other things, and but but that they've kind of hit hit their like their own... like now that Now they have this like whole cinematic universe they're trying to build with like the Pooniverse and like all these public domain characters that they're like cramming into each other.
00:10:43
Chris Prime
I'm wondering if someone could make a parody off of their parody or their public domain and just do it slightly better. Is it copyright infringement of a copyright-free company?
00:10:57
Zach Sheets
I'm kind of shocked that the asylum hasn't made like a like for the first one or this one they haven't made like a finance at Freddy's knockoff.
00:11:06
Chris Prime
Yeah, maybe maybe someone did their market research and said, like, maybe we shouldn't.
00:11:06
Zach Sheets
I
00:11:12
Zach Sheets
haven't really been keeping up with a with what the asylum's up to you though like what what they're like knocking off these days.

Plot and Character Analysis of Freddy's Fridays

00:11:18
Zach Sheets
I know they did like a what they have like alien versus like alien versus hunter or something was their alien versus predator knockoff
00:11:27
Chris Prime
Oh, actually, I thought the one you're talking about is Osiris. I keep seeing that one on Hulu.
00:11:33
Zach Sheets
oh yeah don' i'm not sure that's the asylum though i i know they'rere they're they're going back to sharknado well they're making like the sharknado prequel that's like last the last big thing i saw that they're doing yeah
00:11:43
Chris Prime
Really?
00:11:45
Zach Sheets
Anyway, let's let's let's let's jump into what actual what phrase Fridays is actually about. So,
00:11:50
Chris Prime
I mean, it's easy to sum in like three sentences.
00:11:53
Zach Sheets
yeah. So there is a guy, it todd Todd Fisher, who is an evil investment banker.
00:12:04
Chris Prime
Stock broker, I think it's.
00:12:04
Zach Sheets
And stockbroker, yeah, financial guy. And it'ss it's kind of interesting because the movie takes place, like it kind of kicks off like in media. We're kind of in the middle of what's been going on.
00:12:17
Zach Sheets
Like he's been doing this for a while, but he made some sort of deal with these animatronics or demons, whatever they are, because they can they can grant you a wish, but you but you but you have to sacrifice nine people or nine souls to them to get to as like payment for your wish.
00:12:36
Zach Sheets
So he wanted was like like to all the stock, like all his investments like pay off or like be like sort of like killing the stock market.
00:12:49
Zach Sheets
What's his like goal?
00:12:53
Chris Prime
I guess, you know, the more I think about it, I'm like, it wasn't like he was killing off his rival investors. It wasn't like he was using the magic to get the, to to to get the future predictions of the market.
00:13:10
Zach Sheets
yeah yeah what it Yeah, because it seems like he's just a generic, like, I want to be i want to be rich or like make make my current investments pay off. but like like yeah Make yourself have the ability to know what's going to, for the rest of your life, be like, I want to know what what stocks are going to pay off.
00:13:26
Zach Sheets
Mm-hmm.
00:13:26
Chris Prime
Yeah, he basically get the almanac from Back to the Future. I thought, like, that was going to happen. for some reason, the main character, DCI, like, Carter...
00:13:40
Zach Sheets
Lila, Lila Jones.
00:13:41
Chris Prime
Lila Jones, like... She just kind of does quick financial, like, forensics. And just, yeah, he should be he shouldn't be as rich as he is. Like, she says, she drops, like, one line.
00:13:54
Chris Prime
to say that there's something that's suspicious of insider trading because he's doing well, even though he has a history of not.
00:14:01
Zach Sheets
Yeah, because her main investigator, which is her friend who is an influencer, goes on like Instagram and just sees Todd Fisher's Instagram, I guess. And he's like, well, look it.
00:14:13
Zach Sheets
couple a couple weeks ago, he all all his photos were kind of like like he was like a boring nobody. Now he has like sports cars and he's dressing like fancy suits and going to restaurants and stuff.
00:14:25
Chris Prime
yeah That could be other things. like He could just be a drug seller.
00:14:31
Zach Sheets
yeah it looks like He kind looks like he would be like in like an 80s movie, like a cocaine dealer.
00:14:34
Chris Prime
Yeah. He's the guy that shows up with the briefcase with like handcuffed to his hand.
00:14:37
Zach Sheets
Mm-hmm.
00:14:39
Chris Prime
And he has like a black bodyguard who should be behind him or something. right It's the perfect look.
00:14:46
Zach Sheets
Yeah, he has a good villain look. We have no idea what his actual plan is. Yeah.
00:14:53
Zach Sheets
it's it's It's all very vague. like he has to he found he i guess he found this book that looks like the Necronomicon and has like a living eye in it. And it has some sort of Latin spell that if whoever reads the spell, Freddy and his troop show up and they kill that person that read the the the words.
00:15:11
Zach Sheets
So his so his his scheme has been for last couple... and Oh, it only works it only works on Friday. who he He has to sacrifice people on Friday. They're very they're very day of the week based.
00:15:22
Chris Prime
So here's the insane thing. Is it a Friday only in that?
00:15:27
Zach Sheets
In England.
00:15:28
Chris Prime
Like in England at that hour?
00:15:33
Zach Sheets
Getting into like the g grumlin the gremlins questions.
00:15:35
Chris Prime
Yeah, because I feel like the movie doesn't really cohere to that because sometimes fred Freddie and his friends could just show up and haunt people whenever.
00:15:45
Zach Sheets
Yeah, they look by the end the movie, the others they're just popping up anywhere.
00:15:51
Chris Prime
It's not Friday and no one read the spell and the the plot just happens. And instead of making make sense, they just let it unfold.
00:16:03
Chris Prime
or or or Or, I mean, i'm just one more thing. like They could have just shown us weird images like they do. Like weird just, okay, here's the next scenario. And here's another. And then fix it in post, where you just have one scene, a weird flashback, or even Freddy just like, oh, like, everyone I've killed like has wronged me or something.
00:16:25
Zach Sheets
have Have him actually talk.
00:16:27
Chris Prime
Oh, probably, but they really want to stay close true to the source, which was not this at all.
00:16:34
Zach Sheets
Well, it it kind of feels like by the end of the movie, because it starts out with, yeah, you you have to read the words, and then the words, they'll come and kill you. But then it seems by the end of the movie, and just say if you like glance at the book, Freddy will come and kill you. Like, if the book's in your apartment, he'll just come and kill you.
00:16:51
Chris Prime
and And it's not like Freddy is trying to get the book back.
00:16:56
Zach Sheets
No.
00:16:57
Chris Prime
He doesn't even like touch the book. It's more like, okay, well, this is just the rights to summon me. But once I'm summoned, I can do what I want. As long as you don't finish the spell. Because the spell is kind of important.
00:17:14
Zach Sheets
Yeah.
00:17:17
Chris Prime
the movie doesn't spend any time translating what it means or even hyping it up. You just know it's sinister to finish spells.
00:17:25
Zach Sheets
Yeah, because it's Latin and sinister.
00:17:27
Chris Prime
Yeah. It just sounds sinister. Like, we put subtitles on to see, first of all, to hear. This movie is horribly mixed on Tubi.
00:17:36
Zach Sheets
Oh my god. Yeah, they they crank the music and can barely understand the people like talking. And also, like some of them have like thick British accents, so that also doesn't help when the mixing is bad.
00:17:50
Zach Sheets
i also asked, where did where did Todd find this book? like Was it in like an antique shop? Or just like, he he he was like exploring like an ancient cave or so like if i a castle or something?
00:18:05
Chris Prime
think he might have found the castle. there's this There's this thing where he doesn't explain where he got the book from. it it seems like a dude who would do drugs in a castle.
00:18:20
Chris Prime
And then he's very chill to organize like that that dungeon. Because it's not like Freddy and all his friends reside in that dungeon.
00:18:34
Chris Prime
you know I feel like the guy had to rent out that basement to his apartment.
00:18:34
Zach Sheets
Do
00:18:39
Chris Prime
and then Or maybe that's where he lived and he just designed it like a dungeon.
00:18:44
Zach Sheets
you think he's actually like paying rent there or is he is's just abandoned and turned into like his kill room?
00:18:50
Chris Prime
There's way too much stuff in there for that one to be that abandoned. And also, the i can't tell you because the building's all shot at night. So like there's no like signs that anyone lives there or anything.
00:19:03
Zach Sheets
it's It's definitely some sort of abandoned factory or...
00:19:08
Zach Sheets
It kind of has like sewer vibes, like a water treatment plant or something. Because you go out...
00:19:13
Chris Prime
The thing is, it's it's all together.
00:19:13
Zach Sheets
you
00:19:16
Chris Prime
like it's It's not like one room is certain things. It just looks like all of it, and it just doesn't make sense.
00:19:23
Zach Sheets
And I guess he did he also just leaves candles burning constantly. Because it's, it like, later on, like, our our main detective goes back, but like, sneaks back there, and the candles are still lit, and Todd left, so he just, like, leaves candles burning constantly. He's like, oh, yeah. i the And he also leaves his book there, like, in the open. The magical book that gives him all his powers. Just leave it, like, wide open, not in a safe, not locked away, just out on a table.
00:19:49
Chris Prime
Or at least hide it under a pillow.
00:19:52
Zach Sheets
Mm-hmm.
00:19:53
Chris Prime
Or maybe hide it with like adult toys. Because Todd's plan is to trick like a lot of prostitutes to come and read Latin to him.
00:20:07
Zach Sheets
Yeah, he he hires escorts and then like tells them and they're going to go to his place. And then it it turns out to be a creepy like creepy kill basement. And then he tells them to read from the book because like Latin turns them on. and so and then they're kind of like, all right. And they start reading it. And then he gets mad if they start like like stop or are kind of questioning what he's doing.
00:20:33
Zach Sheets
Like, he he like totally drops like his is act of, oh yeah, this is yeah Latin. Read it, baby. He's just like, read the fucking book!
00:20:42
Chris Prime
Oh, yeah. it At that point, it is just manic, like, druggy talk. Whenever, if you've seen a movie with, like, a drug addict who is trying to get his latest fix or some sort of freak out, it happens here, but there is no rush.
00:21:03
Chris Prime
It's not like he's got to beat the clock, you know, that night, that time, on, like, a Friday hour, you know? Like, I...
00:21:11
Zach Sheets
Unless he's doing all this at, like, 11, and he he's, like, it's getting close to midnight, is that that they he has, like, one minute to, like,
00:21:19
Chris Prime
gloat. Well, okay, it's not like he also does the killing. he He waits for whoever said that magical last word gets, like, haunted by Freddy until they either resolve it or die, I guess.
00:21:37
Zach Sheets
Yeah, he's he's luring... these prostitutes to be like the the the victims, the souls that he needs to sacrifice to complete his deal with Freddy. And then they, when when they read the the from the book, Freddy and his gang show up and ne and they, you know, brutally murder whoever read the phrase of the book.
00:21:54
Zach Sheets
well I will give this to me credit, like there is some kind of a kind of cool gory kills. It's like, at least they nailed that a little bit. like they know They're chopping people's heads off or like doing like multiple stabs and gushing fake blood around.
00:22:02
Chris Prime
Yeah.
00:22:09
Chris Prime
Yeah, when when there actually is violence, it's not terrible. that That's the surprising thing. like There are little moments that that will save the movie, but there's sprinkles so far in few that now just trying to recall death scenes and even action sequences, I'm just getting a b blank at first.
00:22:30
Chris Prime
It's like, oh yeah. Did they? you know, like... I'll talk about it a little bit later when we get into... you This movie establishes rules and then, for whatever reason, Freddy... All the animatronics just sort of ignore it for a while.
00:22:51
Chris Prime
For example, you need a say the curse.
00:22:51
Zach Sheets
Oh.
00:22:54
Chris Prime
You need to say the Latin word to summon Freddy. But even just thinking about Freddy can bring him to your house.
00:23:02
Zach Sheets
It seems like, or or if you start the words and don't finish them, that's still enough. It's like, you read one word. like we're We're coming to get you.
00:23:10
Zach Sheets
And then it's, it does, do those add up to Todd's totals? Like he's like racking up kills and he, like without him

Critique of Character Actions and Plot Inconsistencies

00:23:17
Zach Sheets
knowing about it. Or is that like, just like Freddie on their own. We're like, this this is, this is for us. This is one for us, one for him.
00:23:23
Zach Sheets
i saying
00:23:25
Chris Prime
Oh, that does make a little more sense.
00:23:31
Zach Sheets
Or did, or I think, and don't remember I, didn't they say that, like Lila or whoever, like, because they were, they read the for the book, now it's like a new a new count for them.
00:23:43
Zach Sheets
Like, whatever they did, ums like that they have to sacrifice people now.
00:23:47
Chris Prime
Well,
00:23:49
Zach Sheets
i feel like someone mentioned that, like, oh, now it's not now it's like a new deal for you.
00:23:50
Chris Prime
uh,
00:23:53
Zach Sheets
like and then Todd was like, one of her kills edit that up
00:23:59
Chris Prime
I mean, clever. I just forgot that my brain also like we saw this movie recently. My brain just refuses to remember a lot of it.
00:24:08
Zach Sheets
Yeah. and and yeah so like and like And Lila is like the only cop in the UK who's like trying to investigate this. Everyone else is like telling her not it's like a waste of time.
00:24:17
Chris Prime
Yeah, everyone just wants to like move on.
00:24:21
Zach Sheets
there's like There's so many times where like multiple characters just say, like oh, they probably just ran away.
00:24:27
Zach Sheets
happens all the time. It's like her captain and then when she goes to beat the best character in the movie, like the madam that runs some of the girls.
00:24:39
Zach Sheets
That 10-minute long interview scene that's a lot over her
00:24:39
Chris Prime
Yeah.
00:24:42
Chris Prime
Oh my God. She does not come back. There's no point where we see that madam character do anything at the end to help or even give her like a ongoing tip. It's like, Hey, this other girl is coming. Why don't you go help her too?
00:24:56
Chris Prime
Or, you know, like it, I forgot about that only because it's such a like different part of the movie.
00:25:05
Zach Sheets
They had that, they had that, where the actress that played that, the madam, they had her for one day.
00:25:05
Chris Prime
Right?
00:25:05
Chris Prime
Like,
00:25:11
Zach Sheets
like, we got to shoot all this, we and we don't have time to go to like a set or anything. We to just do it. She's, she's having a smoke break in this, hot this like outside outdoor, like avenue. have to run there and shoot the scene.
00:25:23
Zach Sheets
but but that's it's like a massive exposition dub of just like, she just like reveals who who the last victim was and she had like a sort of a sister, but not really. They're like therere like sisters in like spirits.
00:25:36
Zach Sheets
which who i don't I don't think anything ever comes of that either. Like the the sister of the the first woman we see get killed.
00:25:42
Chris Prime
no No.
00:25:43
Zach Sheets
It's just sort of a so it's just sort of a clue to like lead her to and the other, like the the the the madam.
00:25:44
Chris Prime
No.
00:25:52
Chris Prime
Yeah, it essentially feels like that was someone on like the production's like friend. but The director's like girlfriend or something.
00:25:59
Zach Sheets
who
00:26:00
Chris Prime
And it's like, okay, can we just make a scene? So she only has like one or two scenes in the movie for like her like stag card or something.
00:26:08
Zach Sheets
Yeah.
00:26:10
Zach Sheets
the The British equivalent of SAG.
00:26:11
Chris Prime
But
00:26:12
Chris Prime
Yeah, yeah. But, yeah, it's... it I'm assuming... but Okay, so this is the sister character's like, oh no, my big Asian sis is gone.
00:26:25
Chris Prime
I need you to go investigate like her last known client. And that's what sparks the whole, alright, maybe we should to the madam, and then the madam's just like, well, here's the name of the last guy, go here at this bar, like...
00:26:37
Zach Sheets
Yeah.
00:26:39
Chris Prime
that plot moves really quick, but in, in, in theory, but it drags so long because they really want to show you like sweeping shots of the, the, whatever block this was, or see how the, the, the police inspector dresses, dresses like undercover.
00:26:53
Zach Sheets
Yeah.
00:27:00
Zach Sheets
her her She goes undercover so many times in this movie.
00:27:04
Chris Prime
So, and I remember like, At this point, we still haven't... so I think we saw like one time Freddy and his friends, so if you're looking for a true animatronic cat and mouse game, you don't get it.
00:27:18
Chris Prime
At least in Willy's Wonderland, Nick Cage, he would go on his soda break and pinball round. I kind of break up how crazy his night's going. I guess you could tell in this movie when the police detective gets sexier.
00:27:34
Chris Prime
where we're going.
00:27:38
Zach Sheets
well did she have a wig or that was like because you're trying to figure out it looked like she had a wig on the entire time and it would make sense if she put a wig on it for like being undercover but it's just like her normal hair it just looks like a wig
00:27:50
Chris Prime
It's just like sprayed, hair sprayed.
00:27:54
Zach Sheets
It's also, and she has a, like, a a flatmate who, we I think we mentioned, she's, like, an influencer. She's, like, the main source of, like, I don't know where she's going to research stuff on the internet, but she's able to find all this information. Like, she knows, like, the bar that Todd is, like, using to find people, like, to, like, lure his, like, escorts.
00:28:16
Zach Sheets
And
00:28:16
Chris Prime
Yeah, he's going after a certain clientele of women at this bar. It seems like he's not hitting on nothing like any normal person.
00:28:28
Chris Prime
Like he's like, oh, you're the hooker. I'm always sorry like that's another giveaway. Like he just becomes sort of this terrible version of of Jack the Ripper. I guess if that's what they're going for a theme of.
00:28:43
Zach Sheets
Kind of, except he's not doing any of the killing. like He's just dumping them to Freddy.
00:28:51
Chris Prime
And then he doesn't have like an ulterior of motive that we know. like He's doing it just for stocks?
00:28:57
Zach Sheets
for Yeah, for money. like whatever whatever Whatever his wish was for financial gain.
00:29:04
Chris Prime
So do you do you think his wish was like something like a Twilight Zone, Monkey Paul thing where having this power to control...
00:29:15
Chris Prime
animatronic demons. You can only like keep requesting for souls. Or like something like it's like a constant retribution. like You have to keep feeding it souls every week or else you'll die.
00:29:31
Zach Sheets
I wish there was like like a wish master kind of thing where it's like they they they twist his wish into something.
00:29:33
Chris Prime
Yeah. yeah
00:29:37
Zach Sheets
you know he he he gets rich, but then he gets something bad happens to him.
00:29:41
Chris Prime
One of his friends gets turned into the demonic like Freddy you know what i mean like it's sort of like they were normal people but the wish went out of control or even his wish was to make like a Freddy show but instead they became the avatars of like demons like he said wish my Freddy came to life and then it's like oh your wish is granted but now Freddy this Freddy is evil you keep feeding it like souls in order to not die
00:29:51
Zach Sheets
Yeah. Yeah.
00:30:14
Chris Prime
that's That's a plot. but You know what mean? that's that's It's silly, but at least that makes sense why Todd is doing this. Because for a guy with money, wouldn't you just, I don't know, order the hooker and send her to the basement? Why do you go on dates with these hookers?
00:30:34
Zach Sheets
I guess because he needs like yeah he needs like get them to
00:30:39
Zach Sheets
Yeah, I guess you could just call it like, hey, you need to come to this location.
00:30:42
Chris Prime
Yeah. That's the point of like a hooker.
00:30:47
Zach Sheets
Like, come to like whatever street this is and it's like, are you sure this is the right place? It's like a weird back alley creepy stairway. It's like, oh yeah, it's I got a flat in the bottom. In the basement.
00:30:58
Chris Prime
Yep. That's as weird as eight sex work is legit work. Don't get me wrong.
00:31:04
Zach Sheets
Hmm?
00:31:05
Chris Prime
But that's the service. taking like you don't need to treat every like especially for a serial killer who's basically trying to be a weird version of American Psycho like it's a lot like American Psycho he has the thrill is seeing how long he can pretend to be normal in order to get to serial killer tendencies This guy is not a serial killer.
00:31:31
Chris Prime
He's doing it to really try to prevent... i mean, to in order to keep being rich. But that's us trying to fill in the blank.
00:31:43
Zach Sheets
he's He's also going to he's going to the same club that clearly has the same... there's like Everyone there is like a regular. like because there The multiple scenes that we see at that club, it's like the same people at the club.
00:31:55
Chris Prime
Yep.
00:31:55
Zach Sheets
So people people are going to recognize him. It's like, oh, it's that guy who's always with like all the ladies. Yeah.
00:32:01
Chris Prime
And if you haven't seen this movie before, this club we're describing is not like a dance club, big party. It's like the size of a pub, like a UK pub where you could you could like.
00:32:16
Chris Prime
You could probably order a drink from the back room to the bartender who is just mere feet away.
00:32:22
Zach Sheets
Oh, it looks it looks so cramped and tight. Like when when Lila goes undercover and she's like squeezed past everybody, it's like it feels like you barely walk. at like Like two people cram up the entire like access to that bar.
00:32:36
Chris Prime
bar. Yeah.
00:32:37
Zach Sheets
Mm-hmm.
00:32:38
Chris Prime
The bar is just three stools. And then the rest is just like the lounge, which is filled with the most random people at this thing. We thought it would be some sort of like sinister evil club or something.
00:32:51
Zach Sheets
but Yeah, like an Eyes Wide Shut, like everyone's in like, it's like a weird sex club or something.
00:32:56
Chris Prime
It's not. It just like everyone is out to a club they all got denied out of. Like it's like everyone that couldn't get into a club that night went to this place.
00:33:06
Zach Sheets
Including Big Willie. the Like, the first guy that hits that, like, every guy in that bar, like, hits on Lila when she gets there. So that's like the wacky comedy of like, like, she's like, Oh, no, thank you. i like She's like, work her way past all these like creeps at the bar.
00:33:23
Chris Prime
Oh, are we going to mention, let's mention this, that the madam character that Lila met was just like, you could be a great hooker, you know? And Lila's like, oh no, not me.
00:33:30
Zach Sheets
shel
00:33:33
Chris Prime
And we thought maybe Lila, at this point in the movie, uh, we're going back a little, uh, Lila is, is, like, all business, so we don't know if she has a boyfriend, what her life's like, but I think right after that sequence where the, she talks to the madam, and then she goes to her apartment with her flatmate living there, and her boyfriend, like, Lila's boyfriend, we're like, wait, she's, like, a different character at home. Why, why is it, like, police version of her is so stiff and, like,
00:34:04
Chris Prime
she doesn't know how to like yeah she's very like all business but then her home life is very relaxed you know like she knows how to be a person I thought it would be one of those things where again there was such a better version of this movie where maybe Lila her sister died early we thought it would go that direction right
00:34:06
Zach Sheets
She's wearing suspenders.
00:34:31
Chris Prime
Where maybe Lila lost her sister. And then because of that, she really is trying to protect these women that remind her of her sister.
00:34:40
Zach Sheets
Well, that's that's that's what that's what they imply. Like, her boyfriend's like, oh, why you so like yeah you're so obsessed with this because of what happened to your sister.
00:34:48
Chris Prime
Oh, man, you're right. cause I forgot that. Because I think the next like the next scene, that is completely dropped. like That plot is like gone.
00:34:54
Zach Sheets
Mm-hmm.
00:34:57
Zach Sheets
I think that's what they they kind of argue about that. And then he goes back to his apartment and he's like an artist. So he's like working on whatever like crappy painting he's drawing. And then that's when Freddie and the gang like come and kill him because he read it was just like flipping through the book like, oh what did what's this? Just like read like a couple words of the book. Because Lila cause lila goes to the bar undercover, follows Todd all right Yeah, tied to like the his where he kills his second victim that we see in the movie.
00:35:25
Zach Sheets
And then after she Lila hangs out until they leave and then goes and steals the book.
00:35:31
Chris Prime
Also, the book's not protected. It's just out on a table.
00:35:34
Zach Sheets
Yeah, like we said, it's just like yeah it's out in the open. And he also leaves can lit candles all around it. so you know There's also a threat that could like burn up. And he has no... But then later he's like, oh, I memorized them, so don't worry about it.
00:35:49
Zach Sheets
I don't need the book.
00:35:51
Zach Sheets
But yeah but she yeah, she steals evidence. She tries to convince people there's crime scene, but then like her boss shows up like, oh, there's no body? There's no there's no evidence? no one No one saw anything? We're not going investigate this.
00:36:05
Chris Prime
They don't have even like do a check on who owns the building.
00:36:09
Zach Sheets
I mean, there is there is a pool of blood, but then he's just like, oh, that that could be anything.
00:36:16
Chris Prime
This is also like set in modern day. So, you know, DNA tests is a thing.
00:36:21
Zach Sheets
Yeah, mm-hmm.
00:36:22
Chris Prime
And and like evidence collecting. not just you had to You had to commit crime in front of a cop in order for the cop to like do something.

Supernatural Elements and Plot Climax Discussion

00:36:33
Zach Sheets
And there's, there's seven, there's, there's been seven missing women each disappearing a week apart. And they're like, and we don't care. They all, I guess, I guess, is that sort of like a, is that like social commentary about how people don't care about sex workers?
00:36:52
Chris Prime
I mean, maybe. I feel like the smarter movie would do something like that, but not a movie where the cop becomes like a fake sex worker and then is like a bumbling sex worker.
00:37:07
Zach Sheets
Yeah, that that that kind of becomes like la's like like Final Plan is that she's going to go back to the club in in the same outfit and then whoever that Todd has lured in this time, she'll shell replace that that woman and then she'll be the one that goes to the underground kill room and then kind of like arrest him or kill him or do whatever she's going to to him.
00:37:30
Zach Sheets
and think And I think by that time her boyfriend's been killed by Freddy, right?
00:37:34
Chris Prime
Yeah, she... No, no, no. Well, the the second, the third act, he's dead.
00:37:40
Zach Sheets
yeah.
00:37:41
Chris Prime
But the first time she does it, it's sort of like just the investigation, and that makes him him even more mad
00:37:41
Zach Sheets
Cause
00:37:46
Zach Sheets
yeah. She's like, why you always to put yourself at risk? yeah You're like, you need like backup. Like you should have like got backup. should have help. You're just going in, going against his like circular alone.
00:37:58
Zach Sheets
But yeah, but yeah. And after he gets killed, there' like there's a whole kind of like, it feels like was shot out of order. Like there's weird editing about it where, he gets killed and Lyle's like devastated about it.
00:38:09
Zach Sheets
Like she's like, looks like an absolute wreck. Like she's like, drink like drunk and like not showering. But then the next scene, she's, she's back up and so she's back at the bar at the club.
00:38:20
Chris Prime
Yeah, and then, well, no, no, wasn't there a scene where she, like, goes, oh, like, she tells her roommate, like, I gotta get dressed as a Freddy, like, we're let's do this.
00:38:27
Zach Sheets
Yeah.
00:38:28
Chris Prime
And then, like, the morning, she's just, like, back at being a wreck again.
00:38:28
Zach Sheets
I got
00:38:32
Chris Prime
We're like, what happened? You just gave that, like, a motivational talk.
00:38:33
Zach Sheets
it. Yeah. Yeah. I think, was that when her roommate also somehow found on the internet, like, Freddy's origins? She found out that they're, like, an urban legend or something that's been going for for centuries?
00:38:46
Chris Prime
Maybe?
00:38:47
Zach Sheets
she felt She found out some sort of information about, like, what Freddy actually, what Freddy and his, like, crew actually are? Because that's,
00:38:53
Chris Prime
Do you remember what they are? are they just generic?
00:38:57
Zach Sheets
I can't remember exactly what she's like, if she says we speak what they are, but that's when we find out about the wish thing where she's like, oh, they'll grant you a wish, but you get to pay, uh, pay them with souls to make, make it, make it come true.
00:39:11
Chris Prime
Like, how many souls?
00:39:13
Zach Sheets
Well, I think it's, it's nine because Todd keeps counting down. and there' like two souls left. Yeah.
00:39:19
Chris Prime
But... does that does Does that mean Todd killed nine people before or got nine people killed before you know for him to be rich and instead of like being a good stockbroker or whatever, he just keeps doing this each night like until he can get his another wish again?
00:39:41
Zach Sheets
it it see It seems like what the setup is that if he can if he can like like sacrifice nine people to fighting his crew, then he's he's out. He's done. and then whatever he asked them for, they'll give him.
00:39:54
Zach Sheets
But then it seems like you they're gate like they're like where they gave it to him, but then that's the... like the the like Well, we gave you what you wanted, now you have to give us what we want, which is souls.
00:40:03
Chris Prime
I thought you had give souls to get their attention or something. You know, i there's something not translating well.
00:40:11
Zach Sheets
Well, it's look because it but it seems like he got he already got some sort of money because that's what the influencer friend finds that's what she finds on like social media where he's like posting that he hit like he bought like a fancy new car. or like he's like His recent posts don't match what his earlier posts were. now he's like Now he has like a it seems like he has like way more money.
00:40:33
Chris Prime
Which we still can't figure out what kind of post was he posting before. Like, is he just like eating a hot dog on the street going, like great dinner. And then suddenly it's like his post got way more elaborate.
00:40:46
Chris Prime
It's like sponsored content.
00:40:48
Zach Sheets
it's like he's got like a Lamborghini he's just like like testing out the new testing out the new whip thanks Freddy
00:40:52
Chris Prime
Out getting milk.
00:40:55
Chris Prime
Yeah. That's why I'm like, how can't. how crazy of a jump was it and how how what tool was this influencer woman like doing like sure like did she analytic analytic him and like wow was net worth went up it's like how how would you know that
00:41:12
Zach Sheets
she's on the dark web like i know about the dark web I'm an influencer
00:41:18
Chris Prime
wouldn't that make more sense if she was a hacker and she hacked something like his bank account and then looked at his finance wouldn't that make more sense
00:41:22
Zach Sheets
Yeah.
00:41:25
Zach Sheets
Probably.
00:41:26
Chris Prime
Unless this dum-dum's posting photos of, like, a check online. Like, uh, check out how much I deposited in bank account.
00:41:33
Zach Sheets
or Or have Layla have like at least one person at the police station that is like on on her side helping her, like a tech guy or something.
00:41:39
Chris Prime
Yeah, the guy behind the computer desk who, like, has computer files. Like, police files, not just Instagram.
00:41:46
Zach Sheets
Yeah.
00:41:48
Zach Sheets
Because I don't think Lyle doesn't use any sort of police resources at all. She relies solely on her influencer friend. And herself. Like, I'm going to undercover myself, and I'm going all of my information from my friend who can somehow hack into, or, like, research all the stuff on the internet.
00:42:07
Zach Sheets
But then, like, eventually eventually she does somehow, like, she convinced her chief to, like, hey, come, like, you gotta come with me to, like, this this place. Like, I tracked this guy down. Like, he's trying to, like he's like, he's doing crazy stuff down here. And then they have kind of, like the like, the big, like, final conflict with Todd and Freddy.
00:42:28
Zach Sheets
where Where Todd is like, it's kind of like like Mr. Mixel-Pixlex, where like he like reads the words himself, and then he becomes the victim.
00:42:37
Chris Prime
Yeah, he reads like one line and then the that's it It's like, oh you said the one line, the most important line. Also, for a guy that's been doing this for like eight times.
00:42:50
Chris Prime
I don't understand how he fell for it but on the the night, you know? And it wasn't like some ingenious thing that Lila set it up where she wrote the words down or recorded him saying it or made made like a sound clip from different words he said throughout the whole movie and then put it to splice them together to like phonetically say it, you know?
00:43:10
Zach Sheets
Yeah.
00:43:11
Chris Prime
like Or, oh my God. she was able to summon the souls of all the other women to help her.
00:43:21
Zach Sheets
Like the black phone.
00:43:23
Chris Prime
Yeah, right? like
00:43:26
Chris Prime
I'm giving this movie way too much credit, but there is something, because there's like a lot of super like supernatural elements, you establish that in this movie. But it only works one way.
00:43:40
Chris Prime
Like, if you establish this movie has supernatural elements, cool. So, does that mean the hero can do supernatural things? Like, no, only the villain. It's like... Why? Because if you just gave us the Necronomicon, like, they legit had a version of the Necronomicon in this movie.
00:43:57
Chris Prime
There has to be, like, another force somewhere, too.
00:44:03
Zach Sheets
Yeah, there there should have yeah should have been some like a spell that could be used to against Freddy or and his his crew or so like something in the book that they discover where it's like, oh,
00:44:13
Zach Sheets
This is how we stop them.
00:44:15
Chris Prime
or I mean, not even that hard, you just burned the book, and now without the book controlling Freddy, he's free to be doing what he wants, and maybe what he wants is Todd. But it seems like an obligation that they turn on Todd.
00:44:30
Zach Sheets
Well, I think... yeah also You also discover that like the way to kill them is that you have to use Freddy and his gang's weapons against them. Because I guess i guess they're they're impervious unless you do like you like you know take their weapon to kill them with the weapons.
00:44:47
Zach Sheets
So that's kind of like it's kind of how things start wrapping up. It's going like crazy and like fighting Freddy and his gang and like stealing their weapons and killing them.
00:44:56
Chris Prime
Which both me and you were just like, I guess this is happening. Like, we saw this together, and we're just like, yeah, no, this this this might as well have happened. There's no... This movie has no more budget or time to look at any other thing. It's not like they got, like, an anti-animatronic weapon.
00:45:15
Chris Prime
You know? It's not like they had time to bless a weapon or, like,
00:45:22
Zach Sheets
you Or you you say the spell back you say the words backwards and that opens a portal to hell and it sucks them back in or something.
00:45:27
Chris Prime
Yeah, I would. I would take that. I would take, you know, out of panic, she discovers if you like, I don't know, realign the pages, it spells out something else.
00:45:41
Chris Prime
Do you know I mean? Like it I do appreciate movies like this because it makes me feel like a better movie screenwriter, even though I've never written one. But I feel like it's once you kind of read, understand story structure, it's not super difficult to make a coherent piece.
00:46:00
Chris Prime
But it's something that at least like it's it's not just a crazy ending that we're going to get into next. Because boy, a boy, from what we're talking about it, you think the movie will have some crazy like sunrise ending where like Lila is just like, man, I can't believe that was a crazy Friday. Like, I wish we got something like that.
00:46:25
Zach Sheets
Oh, you know what I noticed? I don't even mention who would the other like people like the like characters in Freddy's crew are
00:46:33
Chris Prime
No, that's something they had to look up online.
00:46:35
Zach Sheets
So there's there's there's a scarecrow guy who looks like, I think we said that he looks like one of the strangers. like He has like kind of a bag over his head. There's a clown who looks like a killer clown from outer space.
00:46:48
Zach Sheets
And then there's apparently, we thought we thought it was like a a second clown, but guess it's it's it's Humpty Dumpty.
00:46:56
Chris Prime
Yeah, which was like, I guess.
00:46:56
Zach Sheets
or like it's like It doesn't look like an egg. It's just like a guy. like a it looks more like a baby with like bulging eyes. And then he has like a like kind of like a... with Like a Voldo like claw hand.
00:47:12
Zach Sheets
And the Skirker has like a pitchfork. Freddy mainly uses like like like a like a reaper. Like a corn reaping knife or blade
00:47:22
Zach Sheets
And the cloud the clown just the clown had like a mallet, I think, like like a sledgehammer.
00:47:26
Chris Prime
Oh, we mentioned that the roommate died.
00:47:31
Zach Sheets
Oh, yeah, that happened Because i guess because she also read the book. or sli Oh, we yeah.
00:47:35
Chris Prime
No, she didn't.
00:47:38
Zach Sheets
Maybe because she like was looking into them. They're like, you can't you can't know about us.
00:47:42
Chris Prime
Yeah. That's what I'm saying. it's movie the There is no structure. By the halfway point, the movie just sort of picks and chooses what to believe in its own lore that it made up itself.
00:47:55
Chris Prime
I understand that if you want to do a Five Nights at Freddy thing, the one thing that really sets apart Five Nights at Freddy from a lot of other games and like Supernatural thing is you have to be like in their hunting ground.
00:47:55
Zach Sheets
Yeah. Mm-hmm.
00:48:09
Chris Prime
You can't like go home and that's it. And if it is, it's not them. That's like the gimmick about Five Nights at Freddy's.
00:48:17
Chris Prime
Like, Five Nights at Freddy's is like i'm a crazy rollercoaster of, like, storytelling and, like, games and different, like, things.
00:48:24
Zach Sheets
Mm-hmm.
00:48:24
Chris Prime
But the really big important thing is it has to be at night. Like, it's it's almost all of the major events happen at night. And then they have to be tied into family-friendly entertainment.
00:48:39
Chris Prime
So that's sort of the gimmick. This version, they couldn't get, like, family-friendly service, like, some sort of industry, right? It didn't take place in a restaurant. It didn't take place in a theme park. It didn't take place in a mall.
00:48:55
Chris Prime
You know, like, from the Friday Night to Freddy things, usually it's some of those locations. And then, not necessarily it's... that like it needs to take place in there the animatronics need to be physically there like they need to be dragged there and then it's like they wake up and they're just like okay time to go like hunting it's very westworld because again it's westworld came out and just a renegade robot this one they is as if they didn't see westworld they kind of forgot that part of the movie
00:49:15
Zach Sheets
hu
00:49:29
Zach Sheets
Well, i'm still i'm still convinced that they're actually animatronics. I feel like they're demons.
00:49:34
Chris Prime
But they have, like, naps.
00:49:38
Zach Sheets
I mean, like, we're we're going off like...
00:49:40
Chris Prime
But, like, but i know but like they they need, like, activation codes. Like, the you need to say the spell in order them for to target you. But then, don't?
00:49:48
Zach Sheets
yes
00:49:50
Chris Prime
If they sense that you are knowing too much, they can go after you?
00:49:55
Zach Sheets
Yeah, reading the words is a solid like rule that like makes you a target of like that makes you the target of them. But then, yeah, throwing that out like halfway through, we just like any like anybody can just get killed by them. is this kind of like a like It's not a great like way to break the rule. It's just like, now now nothing makes sense because they can just show up anywhere.
00:50:16
Zach Sheets
and your entire like your tire structure is gone.
00:50:20
Zach Sheets
cause yeah Because it's it's like a solid premise of cursed words. like but you're the you're but They're coming after you. you can't stop them because you're cursed now with those words. But then, yeah I guess it might just like, they they they know that that she searched for them on the internet.
00:50:39
Zach Sheets
That's why it's like, no one can know about us. you We're killing you.
00:50:43
Chris Prime
Yeah, but there's no indication about that. Again, we're filling in the blanks. A lot of this movie what we're talking about is also us just knowing how other movies have done it

Evaluation of the Film's Conclusion and Overall Execution

00:50:54
Chris Prime
better.
00:50:55
Zach Sheets
the
00:50:55
Chris Prime
Or someone with a lot of free time wrote entries on fan sites to to kind of flush out more.
00:51:02
Zach Sheets
yeah
00:51:05
Chris Prime
Because I think what Wikipedia has it barely has a data about this.
00:51:10
Zach Sheets
It doesn't have a Wikipedia page.
00:51:11
Chris Prime
Great. And then IMDb, and think it's just the rating.
00:51:16
Zach Sheets
Yeah.
00:51:17
Chris Prime
And it seems like no one no one enjoyed this, except for like maybe one review who gave it a 10, but I bet that person is like 15. fifteen
00:51:28
Zach Sheets
It's probably of the producers. Or like their son or something. It's like, go, you know how to do the internet, kid? Like, write us a 10-star review.
00:51:38
Chris Prime
Yeah, but like even the 10-star review I feel like is like a joke. like It's supposed to be sarcastic.
00:51:44
Zach Sheets
yeah yeah I'm sure it's probably like, yeah, Ironic.
00:51:47
Chris Prime
Oh my god. So you can like thumbs down reviews for that. Someone on in December 2023, two months after it came AI-generated you know like two months after it came out gave it
00:52:03
Chris Prime
such a like ai generate title and and yeah it's all AI if it's like the meticulous attention to detail in crafting the chilling atmosphere is condemnable is commendable with each scene meticulously constructed to invoke a sense of impeding dread that is AI
00:52:10
Zach Sheets
this
00:52:26
Zach Sheets
like write write Write a glowing review of Phrase Fridays using high-tier filmmaking terms.
00:52:37
Chris Prime
It's not even filmmaking terms, man. like it It literally is the...
00:52:43
Chris Prime
It is just high praise, but all the words are not from like a fan.
00:52:54
Chris Prime
You know what I mean?
00:52:54
Zach Sheets
Mm-hmm.
00:52:54
Chris Prime
like it Someone who watches movie on a regular and it's like they their brain rot won't have the
00:53:04
Chris Prime
the like diction to describe like that kind of finesse because that's something that if someone's using those words is describing basically like a live play where you're watching years of art you know someone sacrificed to get there to make that motion Usually people describe that as like a ballet.
00:53:27
Chris Prime
You know, ballet and opera where it's like you can't just wake up and be like, boom.
00:53:28
Zach Sheets
Mm-hmm.
00:53:32
Chris Prime
I did it in a day. You know? So when it comes to an AI farting out this review and not knowing what the context is, it's just a perfect example of this movie.
00:53:48
Chris Prime
No, like this person didn't understand... what like a good horror movie is or maybe they did and they're just joking but it should be like a wink at the end of the whole review you know it's like you read the whole thing you get to the last sentence and it's just like jk it's garbage you know like that's where you're like okay ha ha ha i was gonna get mad but i read the whole thing because some people don't they jump to the whole thing like they jump to an emotion without understanding the whole context
00:54:05
Zach Sheets
yeah yeah Yeah, just like have have the main characters kill them all, I guess.
00:54:17
Chris Prime
That's perfect. This movie, they wrote this whole movie, got to the end, and just went, I don't know how to end this.
00:54:29
Chris Prime
big Manually. No magic. No special, like, oh, I was the chosen one. I would even take that. if it was something stupid where, like, last act, she reveals, like, some sort of, like, birthmark.
00:54:42
Chris Prime
And it's like, oh, you you have the anti-Freddy tattoo or something.
00:54:47
Zach Sheets
there's an There's an ancient group of wizards that stopped them before and you're you're the you you had their blood you're in their bloodline. You have the magic in you.
00:54:57
Chris Prime
Your older sister had it, and that's why she was killed, so now it's you're the last of the demon hunters.
00:55:04
Chris Prime
Boom. We've now justified the third act, where you can manually smash these monsters with, like,
00:55:11
Zach Sheets
yeah
00:55:13
Zach Sheets
But yeah, she does she she does go ham on all of them. She kills all of them with like their own weapons.
00:55:17
Chris Prime
It's not choreographed in a way that makes her seem like a one-person army. it It really is just, like, surprise attack and just, like, i don't know. She's also fighting them in, like, a cocktail dress.
00:55:30
Zach Sheets
Yeah.
00:55:31
Zach Sheets
And then they've like... Her her boss has finally showed up to help, but then he gets like stabbed. It's like bleeding out on like the stairs. Yeah.
00:55:41
Zach Sheets
So he's useless.
00:55:44
Chris Prime
Well, this movie doesn't have, like, because, well, one, because the movie's in the UK, they don't have guns, so maybe that's why they all just wave around props at each other.
00:55:50
Zach Sheets
Yes. Well,
00:55:56
Zach Sheets
I think, didn didn't he have a gun? Like, he was like, it like oh, he has a gun. That's weird.
00:56:00
Chris Prime
Yeah, but then, like, I guess he has no bullets.
00:56:03
Zach Sheets
probably yeah maybe like we You can have a gun, but no bullets.
00:56:08
Chris Prime
I mean, that's fair. It seems like something the UK would do. it's like everyone has a gun. but You don't know which gun has bullets. That's kind of hilarious then.
00:56:18
Zach Sheets
Here's your main weapon. It's a whistle. You blow it. other you ever All the other bumbies will show up and help you.
00:56:24
Chris Prime
Oh, wait, I don't know enough about UK police, but do they still carry around like batons?
00:56:30
Zach Sheets
think that's probably... you think they... Maybe they switched to tasers? Or like... like so like i did the el but Actually, i don't think they used cattle broads. Maybe they used a stun gun or something. but they they price like They probably used a night stick or something.
00:56:45
Chris Prime
they probably have a collapsible baton, but is the sound of it unsheathing and then clicking to place is pretty like threatening.
00:56:47
Zach Sheets
Yeah.
00:56:52
Chris Prime
Where if you just have a wooden stick, you have to like find something to bang against it.
00:56:57
Chris Prime
there's like a okay There's a little side tangent. There's a little psychology behind the baton where like even if you like whip it out really quick and it makes that sound, that telescopic like leggings that always hit each page like ring, that's like scary like if you don't expect
00:57:09
Zach Sheets
Yeah. Mm-hmm. but It's like what like but i also like white people in movies like Cockler guns or like, you know, pump the shotgun before.
00:57:21
Zach Sheets
Intimidation factor.
00:57:22
Chris Prime
It's intimidation. That's it. But like. You can't do that against a demon.
00:57:31
Zach Sheets
They're intimidated by like a baton. They have like pitchforks and knives and whatever else.
00:57:39
Chris Prime
I would have liked it if she tried to do it first time she encounters them and they just brush it off because they're demons and they like what? And then she has to switch tactics. She has to like keep trying all these like simple like police procedurals that she has to keep doing. like Halt.
00:57:56
Chris Prime
And like has call on the radio and then she has to take it de meritit a card and then she'll have to like wave at a ccc CCE like TV.
00:57:58
Zach Sheets
Mm-hmm.
00:58:10
Chris Prime
Also, if they want to comment on sort of the nature of surveillance in the UK, there should have been a whole thing where the Freddy and all his friends aren't picked up by the cameras.
00:58:25
Zach Sheets
Mm-hmm.
00:58:27
Chris Prime
And that's what makes it scary, is that the the like the camera equipment the police is using to kind of scout through the city is like useless. Or all they see is like horrific images, because the demons are messing with the electricity fields or the magnetic fields.
00:58:42
Chris Prime
So they can only chase the like blurs.
00:58:42
Zach Sheets
yeah well
00:58:45
Zach Sheets
Well, don't, I feel like they're not, like, Freddy and his crew aren't walking to, like, these other places. i think they'll just appear, I feel like they just appear in, like, yeah like the the boyfriend's apartment and then, like, Lava's apartment to kill the roommate. Like, they're not, they're not, like, walking there, like through the streets and they're just, like, appearing with their, like, demon magic and then disappearing again.
00:59:05
Chris Prime
So. That kind of defeats the whole purpose of Friday to Friday, too. Like a lot of it is them physically walking around. They get blocked by doors. a They have a whole thing where if you like power up the door and close them out, they have to like go through a whole loop again.
00:59:16
Zach Sheets
Uh-huh.
00:59:24
Chris Prime
i mean, the live-action movie doesn't do that as much. They just sort of do that the one time, and then it becomes like a coming-of-age story.
00:59:34
Chris Prime
But yeah, we this movie, like every kind of plot point does not pay off.
00:59:40
Zach Sheets
Well, the whole thing doesn't pay off because we we were alluding to like the ending. This movie doesn't really end. it They kill Frank and his crew and then it cuts to... What was it like?
00:59:51
Zach Sheets
It was like two weeks later.
00:59:53
Chris Prime
Yep.
00:59:54
Zach Sheets
It's like... Where's that come up? And then it's... Lila's like sitting on like a stoop. Her boss comes out with a coffee. No dialogue. They sort just nod at each other.
01:00:06
Zach Sheets
And then that's it. <unk>s They're so like, well, but we've we found like, the we found like, we wrapped up that case or we found like, we can't find Todd's body or like, no, no, like concluding exposition, like wrap things up.
01:00:26
Zach Sheets
They're just like, nod
01:00:32
Zach Sheets
It's like, wasn't that crazy two weeks ago? And then we're we're like reacting like it happened. like The scene feels like it's like the next morning, but it's two weeks from now. Or two weeks from like that battle, I guess.
01:00:43
Zach Sheets
And then the ultimate thing is like like the stinger is that they cut back to, i guess, the kill room. And Freddy kind like gets back up or like reanimates. And he's he's back. he's yeah He's not dead.
01:00:54
Zach Sheets
So they're going be back for more.
01:00:56
Chris Prime
Yeah, it it becomes a like, ooh, like, you can't stop this evil, even though the book is just sitting there on the table, I assume. Everyone that kind of knows about this thing is either dead or they are too freaked out to do anything else.
01:01:15
Chris Prime
So, Freddy doesn't have vengeance. Like, what's he going to do, go after Lila?
01:01:20
Zach Sheets
I guess just wait for a new person to find the book and figure out that you can make a wish and had that then you have to sacrifice people to these demons.
01:01:31
Chris Prime
mean, I guess. there's but There's no like evil mastermind. you know There's no... like We find out that like there's like another boss on Freddy.
01:01:41
Chris Prime
you know like it's It's sort of like, oh, you thought Freddy was in charge? like He's not.
01:01:47
Zach Sheets
Is this actual like upper demon or like Satan himself?
01:01:53
Chris Prime
mean, you have to. i don't know where else going with the plot.
01:01:58
Zach Sheets
I mean, they could just go to like, they go to spirit Halloween, just find some more costumes and just use those and add them. but There's more new members of Freddie's crew in the, in the sequel.
01:02:06
Chris Prime
Yeah, it'd just be like one character that looks like a Squid Games costume knockoff.
01:02:13
Chris Prime
You get another...
01:02:14
Zach Sheets
Skeleton guy. like yeah
01:02:15
Chris Prime
yeah Or not even... Oh, yeah, like generic like spooky skeleton suit. Maybe they'll mess up and then get like something that just does not translate well at all in the UK.
01:02:28
Chris Prime
They get like a Transformer. Yeah.
01:02:33
Zach Sheets
They don't even care about like copyright. They're just like, it's it's a Ninja Turtle.
01:02:37
Chris Prime
Yeah. they They just sort of designed something where it's like, Freddy's got new folklore storytelling people.
01:02:45
Zach Sheets
But yeah, so that phrase Fridays, it's it's on Tubi. it's It's barely, i mean, it's barely moving. like It's like an hour and 17 minutes.
01:02:58
Zach Sheets
So, i mean, if you want to watch it, it's not that long. it feel It feels long at times, even though it's less than 90 minutes, but...
01:03:03
Chris Prime
Oh my god, yeah. It felt like forever.
01:03:07
Zach Sheets
Yeah, i was i would say skip skip this. go go like The other ones... I'm not a fan of Willy's Wonderland, but I would say that's better than this. And then...
01:03:15
Chris Prime
Go see the banana splits one.
01:03:16
Zach Sheets
The Blaine's Swiss movie is probably... and The Funniest Fraze movie was was was was pretty good. The amatronics are amazing that, and then hopefully the the new one, which we haven't seen yet, kind of like makes it more accessible for maybe like not super fans.
01:03:30
Zach Sheets
Yeah. i feel like I feel like people who are like obsessed with Fighters and Freedys were like, the movie was awesome! It had everything in it!
01:03:39
Chris Prime
But like, how does this make sense?
01:03:39
Zach Sheets
And then...
01:03:40
Chris Prime
Like, don't worry, they were just good. This is good. Like, they just kept saying it's good without any, like, explanation.
01:03:45
Zach Sheets
Yeah. and Yeah, definitely more casual, or like people who had no idea about Fighters and Freedys were like, I don't... but what What was that? like the the the cut Those amortized animals were cool, but I didn't really understand anything else that was going on.
01:04:01
Chris Prime
They have souls of children? Which children? we we won't find out for a while okay
01:04:07
Chris Prime
The Bite of 87? What?
01:04:11
Zach Sheets
is there Is there two Freddy's? Like, there's the like the damaged one and a good one? or
01:04:18
Chris Prime
you know about the Golden Freddy?
01:04:19
Zach Sheets
Yeah.
01:04:21
Chris Prime
Yeah. That's, like, even crazier.
01:04:23
Zach Sheets
we wet we don't have time to get into it all.
01:04:25
Chris Prime
We don't have time for that. And then it's like, God help you if they try to figure out the Purple Man after that.
