Transfer Talk: Michael Coyote from Fiorentina

00:00:38
Global Sports Podcast Network
So let's get straight into it with the team news and the key bit of news coming out of Brentford right now. It's not confirmed at the time of recording, but Michael Coyote appears to be coming in from Fiorentina. He is a right back. We spoke about him briefly on our Monday episode. Could we see him here potentially? um I think he is due to have a medical on Wednesday evening. By the time this comes out on Friday, I suspect that that would be done and all will be confirmed if everything goes well and there are no complications with the medical. He has a 20 year old right back. He's played lots of games in Italy, particularly last season. He broke into the Fiorentina side that reached the conference league final. As I said on Monday, he he reminds me a little bit like Aaron Hickey.
00:01:33
Global Sports Podcast Network
um who spent a couple of years in Italy after playing in Scotland as a youngster and clearly at his young age, we are hoping that there will be lots to come from him and lots of potential. I think it is alone.
00:01:47
Global Sports Podcast Network
with a buy option for about 12 or 13 million pounds, which in the circumstances, given his age, given his pedigree, I think that is a bargain. I think in a few years time we could be seeing him worth much more than that.

Formation Strategy & Player Selection Discussion

00:02:02
Global Sports Podcast Network
Having said that, I think if anything, he will probably train Thursday, Friday with the team. I'm not sure that's long enough for him to to come straight into the squad. I don't think it's necessary in a way. I think Mads Roslev has been on good form for Brentford lately. He um has definitely improved. he's definitely um
00:02:26
Global Sports Podcast Network
look more positive and he's got a bit more confidence in his game at the moment. Of course, there were rumours around him and whether the door might open now for him to leave with Wolfsburg in Germany interested. I'm sure Brentford will only do a deal if it is right for us. And as I said on Monday's episode, I think we can do with an upgrade on that position and maybe coyote is the upgrade. But I think for now, if both players were available, I think I would go with Mads Rossev.
00:02:54
Global Sports Podcast Network
from the start here and Coyote on the bench and hopefully we'll get to see him in some form on Sunday. In terms of formation I think we stick with a back four for this one, I think it's a team that we should be looking to go toe to toe again despite their good form which we'll go on to. I think that this could be a game for the midfield trio of Norguard, Jenson and Dam's guard.

Midfield Dynamics: Creativity & Transition

00:03:18
Global Sports Podcast Network
I feel like In a lot of games now, we should be transitioning away from having that double pivot of Norguard and Yannell. I don't think it's necessarily required in all these games. Jenson, of course, can play that deeper role with Dam's guard as a drifting number 10 as we see him do so regularly. I think yeah having Jenson there instead of Yannell,
00:03:39
Global Sports Podcast Network
he just offers a more creative outlet from a deeper position and someone who can spray passes from a deeper position and hopefully get us going in attack and someone that can hopefully help us keep the ball a little bit better um as that is something we've struggled with at times in certain games particularly away from home in terms of dominating that midfield getting out with some regularity to create chances because I'm confident With this side, no matter who we play against, if we create chances of the likes of Damsguard and Boomer and Wisser, we will score goals. I have to be confident of that.

Contract News: Mikkel Damsgaard's New Deal

00:04:13
Global Sports Podcast Network
Another player who could be back for this one, I probably should have mentioned it at the top when I was talking about Coyote and Roslev, is Christopher Iyer. He is rumoured to be back in training and back available for the club.
00:04:27
Global Sports Podcast Network
I think we have to be a little bit careful with him. We know that he is injury prone. We know that he is susceptible to the odd knocks. I think if he is not ready to start the game, if he is not ready to play 90 minutes, and I don't think we need to risk him here. and There is, of course, the option to play him at right back. There is, of course, the option as well to play him at left back. But I think King Lewis Potter has been doing too good a job in a way which also reflects why Rico Henry hasn't got back in recently because Keen Lewis Potter on that left hand side I think is still someone I would want starting for the club. and
00:05:01
Global Sports Podcast Network
I can't see Ayers slotting it at centre back. I think Vandenberg and Collins in recent weeks have created what seems like a good promising partnership and given that they're both young, I think that could be something that is very promising for the future. Just a little bit on Damsguard as well. At the time of recording, it's rumored that he will be signing a new five-year contract It's also rumoured that he will be in or around £100,000 a week which will make him the highest paid Brentford player certainly of the current team and possibly ever.
00:05:34
Global Sports Podcast Network
I think that is well deserved. I think that is a massive win for the club. um We have seen in recent years and the likes of David Raro, Ivan Toney now possibly in Bummo not signing new contracts going on to bigger things. And I think Damsgaard really could have been the next one after in Bummo if he hadn't signed this. So if we can get that over the line, I think that's absolutely brilliant. And we're looking at a player there that I think Brentford should.
00:06:01
Global Sports Podcast Network
easily be looking to build around for the next five years and you know if he is to go in that time we can now demand a big old fee so i think that's really well deserved from mikar dam's guard he's been our best player this season so you can't deny him that he probably deserves to be the highest earner and i think everything good that we do going forwards comes through him and even going forward if the likes of brian abumo were to depart i think whoever comes in to replace him they will benefit massively from having the likes of Dabbsguard and around him creating chances.

Match Preview: Brentford vs. Crystal Palace

00:06:35
Global Sports Podcast Network
For this game in particular, in terms of the front three, I think we might see the return of Kevin Schader. He tends to play these games against the non-big-six sides. When Wentford line up at the front three, I don't think necessarily that we go with an extra midfielder here. If we did, then we could perhaps accommodate nor Guardian out Jenson and Dam's guard. But I think here it is one that we can go over front three, I think.
00:07:01
Global Sports Podcast Network
Palace are quite strong defensively. I think we're going to need to break them down. I think adding Kevin Charda, who offers another element, and will help us in doing that with his pace in behind and with his ability and to be an outball and and and his leap and his um ability to link up that way. In terms of Crystal Palace, we could see a debut for Romain Essay brought in from Millwall. Could he be there? Michael and Lisei replacement perhaps? i would not a deserved judgment on him for now i don't certainly don't expect him to come in um all guns blazing i think um
00:07:39
Global Sports Podcast Network
Obviously, it's a big jump up from Millwall in the championship to Premier League football. So we'll see how he copes if he is to play. Having said that, I think Ismaila Saar as well as Eze and Mateta have been in really good form lately. So I don't really see a reason why Palace will change that front three. Of course, in defence, they've lost Nathaniel, sorry, Trevor Shalabar, who was recalled by Chelsea due to their injury crisis.
00:08:08
Global Sports Podcast Network
but they still have the likes of Mark Gurhey at the back who we all know about him. We saw him play for England in the summer. He is a very good defender and he is always linked with moves away but he remains at Crystal Palace and I suspect him to do so in January. After the break then I will be going into our previous meetings against Palace a little bit about how both teams are fairing at the moment and how I expect this game to pan out on this occasion.

Predictions & Season Ambitions

00:09:42
Global Sports Podcast Network
Hello and welcome to part two of your daily Brentford podcast looking ahead to our visit to Selhurst part take on Crystal Palace in the Premier League at the weekend. Palace go into this one just a point behind Brentford so could overtake us after a difficult start to the season um has culminated in their recent upturn of results.
00:10:06
Global Sports Podcast Network
They are currently on a five-match unbeaten run and one defeat in 11, that being the defeat in the league against Arsenal after they had lost to the same opposition in the Cabal Cup. I don't think Palace has spoken about very much at the moment and I think at the end of last season, since Oliver Glaston and the manager you came in,
00:10:27
Global Sports Podcast Network
There was lots of talk about them. They finished the season strongly. Of course, they had Michael Elise at that point as well. I think this season, they were very much expected to build on that. um I remember ah ahead of the opening game this season, which was against Palace. um The feeling was that Palace would be a side, you know, that may maybe be looking at the European places this season. That did not turn out to be the case initially, and they and they struggled, but they stuck with Oliver Glazner.
00:10:56
Global Sports Podcast Network
and I don't think they're spoken about much as one of the informed sides in the league but I would definitely put them up there and in fact until I started researching for this podcast I did not realise it was only one defeat for them in 11 so it's a difficult afternoon in-store it seems for Brentford on Sunday. Previous meetings between the two clubs have always been tight We began our life in the Premier League since promotion with five draws against Crystal Palace in a row before we had we saw a home-winner piece for each side in the last two meetings, the first of which was around Christmas time last year. Kino's Potter get in the very early goal for Brentford during a period where we were ravaged by injuries and weren't playing very well.
00:11:43
Global Sports Podcast Network
that were we were quickly pegged back before Elise and Eze combined between them for a 3-1 Palace victory and then of course on the opening day of this season and Buma and Whistler got on the score sheet together in a 2-1 win I think as discussed in the crossover episode if you were to put Brentforders similar to a certain side in the Premier League, I would choose maybe the likes of Palace, maybe even the likes of Fulham, even if we don't want to be compared to them, I think and that technically on on a technical level, in terms of quality of players, I think we're at a similar level. um And
00:12:23
Global Sports Podcast Network
I think that's proven in our results over the years since promotion being very, very tight. Of course, before this season started, Palace, Newcastle and Leicester were the three Premier League teams that Brentford had faced and not beaten yet. Since then, we have beaten all three clubs, but it shows how difficult we have found these games against Palace over the years.
00:12:47
Global Sports Podcast Network
I think again on this occasion I'm expecting a tough low margin game especially if Crystal Palace get their way. I think I would feel more positive if Brentford were able to get on top and make it a more open affair. I would back.
00:13:03
Global Sports Podcast Network
I'll fire power just about over there is when everyone's fully firing. Um, and boom. Oh, we're so dams guard. And then also Kevin Shada. I think on his day, if he is fit and firing, we can cause a lot of problems with those four. And even Jensen, if he is playing, um, to be that deep lying playmaker, I think the key is to be able to win that midfield battle. I think, um, on the crossover, um, down from the Daily Palace podcast was saying that, you know, perhaps their midfield, their central midfield is their weak area. Is that an area where Brentford can get on top? I don't think we've done it enough this season, especially away from home. Can we get the likes of Norgard and Jenson on the ball and Dam's guard being creative in there? Can we dominate the ball? Can we get forward with regularity? And I think if we manage to do that, we'll be able to release the front three and get some joy that way.
00:13:58
Global Sports Podcast Network
I think we also need to see a top defensive display to keep out Palace's front three. I think um it's Melisar as well, I think is underrated. Everyone talks about Mateta and Eze, but I think Star has been very, very good recently. Of course, they play with wingbacks as well. Tyrik Mitchell and Munoz, again, I think they can be dangerous coming forwards and and on the end of assists.
00:14:23
Global Sports Podcast Network
I think we'll have to be good defensively. I think looking here, I can see Palace scoring on the day. I can also see us scoring. I think it will be a very, very tight game. But it does pose a question, are these the types of games which Brentford need to get points from if we are to break into the European conversation?
00:14:44
Global Sports Podcast Network
After Palace we have Spurs at home, West Ham away, Leicester away and Everton at home up next. I think this is a key part of breadth of season. If we are to get a few three or four wins on those you know perhaps get through those games unbeaten then possibly we could be looking at the European places or being in and around that area as the season comes to a conclusion and again as I said on the crossover I think that has to be the aim for Brentford given that we're out the cup competitions and you know the next realistic aim it doesn't look like we're going down so the next realistic aim is to try and push those positions as difficult as I think it will be in as much of a long shot I think it is
00:15:29
Global Sports Podcast Network
in terms of my prediction for this one of course i gave that on the crossover episode i went for one all i think the goal score will be whistle hopefully whistle plays because there is some rumors around him departing but brantford have rejected all bids so far from nuttingham forest and i do expect us to keep hold of him during the january window um I would like to see Coyote play. It's always it's always good to see a new face in the door, especially during the January january window where it's typically harder harder to to get those players in. so I'm looking forward to it. I think we're in a good place. I think Brentford can take confidence from there.
00:16:12
Global Sports Podcast Network
games against Liverpool and City in the last week and of course Southampton before that I think we've shown that we can win on the road we've shown that we can play well on the road of course Palace are a different proposition to Southampton um but I don't see a reason why we can't look to get some kind of result here and if I'm really honest a Palace win or a Brentford win would not surprise me either which is why I've gone with my prediction of 1-1 And yeah, like I said, I think we played well in our last two games. and I think if we can translate that level of performance to particularly defensively against Liverpool. But if we can add to that a few layers, if we can get forward in more regularity, which hopefully we can.
00:16:55
Global Sports Podcast Network
against Palace who are a team you know not of the same level in Liverpool despite their recent runs. So I'm looking forward to
