Introduction and Podcast Preview

Global Sports Podcast Network
Hello and welcome to another episode of the Daily Brentford podcast with myself, Daniel, where today we'll be looking ahead to another difficult game, this time on the South Coast, as the Bees travel to Bournemouth on Saturday, again in the 5.30 kickoff.
00:00:24
Global Sports Podcast Network

Team Lineup and Strategy Discussion

00:00:40
Global Sports Podcast Network
So let's get straight stuck into it with the team news. I expect to see Michael Coyote back. And I would quite like to give him a start right back. And I probably would still move Christopher Ayer alongside Nathan Collins. I think although Pinnock was better against Villa, I think we've still seen him exposed, not just in the Everton game. It was more notable in the Everton game, but I think we have been seen him exposed ah just now.
00:01:08
Global Sports Podcast Network
with his pace and things like that a few times this season now. And I think I would like to see Michael Coyote come in. I think what he's shown in terms of his ability when he has been on the pitch with the long throws, his ability to drive up and down that right-hand side,
00:01:26
Global Sports Podcast Network
I think it's not something we've really seen from Ayer in recent weeks. I think maybe at the start of the season we were seeing that, but not recently. So I would like to see that happen. I think with not so much maybe to play for, if this season is featuring out towards the mid-table, I'd like to see us go for it.

Injury Updates and Future Player Roles

00:01:41
Global Sports Podcast Network
And I'd like to see us have this more attacking full-back options here with KLP on the left and Michael Coyote on the right. So I'd really like to see that happen. um And I would probably move Ayer alongside Collins over Ethan Pinnock.
00:01:57
Global Sports Podcast Network
Still probably going to be lacking depth-wise on the bench, but is there a shout also for Matthias Jensen to start? And by the same principle, I would like to see him perhaps start.
00:02:09
Global Sports Podcast Network
alongside Norgaard instead of Yannelt, have that midfield free of Norgaard, Jensen and Damnsgaard. I would like to see us attack some of these final games. I would like to see what we can do with the likes of Jensen and Coyote in the side, maybe it will freshen us up going forwards, particularly against another good side who, you know, we may find it difficult to score against again.
00:02:29
Global Sports Podcast Network
So I would maybe make those two changes to this one and that would be something that would excite me. and as I make the journey down Bournemouth at the weekend.
00:02:41
Global Sports Podcast Network
Vandenberg is back in training. He could feature this weekend. It could be that he comes in for Ethan Pinnock and that's probably the optimal solution. it very much depends on how he gets on with training this week and whether he's ready to do that. but if not, we can at least see him on the bench.
00:02:58
Global Sports Podcast Network
Could we see Rico Henry on the bench as well? He's back in full training. We're likely to take it very carefully with him. We were taking it carefully anyway, but he had a setback um prior to um his second injury, more recent injury.
00:03:16
Global Sports Podcast Network
So I think with Erika Henry and the same with Aaron Hickey when he comes back, I think it's about getting him ready for next season. Arguably the same for Joshua Silva as well.
00:03:26
Global Sports Podcast Network
and I would like to see Rico Henry start a game or two by the end of the season, but I think it's got to be at the right time and I think we've

Midfield Analysis and Contract Talks

00:03:34
Global Sports Podcast Network
got to manage it. And also, I think he's got a fight on his hands because I think Keane Lewis Potter's done really, really well at left back and I wouldn't necessarily change that at the moment, even even if Rico Henry was fully fit and available.
00:03:47
Global Sports Podcast Network
The likes of Gustavo Nunes, Igor Tiago and Joshua Silva all running. but suspect they will need a little bit more time. A bit like Aaron Hickey, who is obviously featured for the B team.
00:03:58
Global Sports Podcast Network
I maybe do expect all of those four to feature for the B team before they come back into the first team fold, given the length of time they're out injured. And I think with all of them, maybe with the exception of Thiago, who could make an impact this season, perhaps he's been around for a few games this season.
00:04:14
Global Sports Podcast Network
and But for the most part, i think it's about getting those those players ready for next season. People like De Silva, considering whether we should extend his contract Christian Norgas contract also up as well hopefully I think we do have an option for to extend that for an extra year I think it would make sense for all involved even with Christian Norgas getting older that we do extend that for another year as he still remains a really integral part of the side but yeah the likes of Josh De Silva if he can get back to his best we know what he can do he offers something a bit different to the midfielders

Strikers' Impact on Performance

00:04:45
Global Sports Podcast Network
we currently have. A perfect kind of box-to-box midfielder, a long-tied damsguard, who's more your creative one, and Norgaard, who's your number six.
00:04:53
Global Sports Podcast Network
Gustavo Nunes, we've not seen him yet. He's a very young player. I think he would probably take a bit of time to get used to the squad and and hit top gear anyway. um This injury's basically set him back by the season, so maybe next season is when we'll start to see him here and there, and hopefully he can start to work his way into the squad.
00:05:13
Global Sports Podcast Network
Igor Tiago has been a big miss because he's a different option. He's a different striker to Jan Wisser. He gives us that option to go longer. he gives that option to put crosses into the box more successfully. he is more the Ivan Toni profile that we're missing currently without him in the team. So he's a blow.
00:05:29
Global Sports Podcast Network
If we can get him back and if we can get him functioning, if we can use him and Wisser and mix them both with within in these last eight to 10 games then, that would be, I think, beneficial to us on the pitch. I think that is definitely something that we are missing currently in terms of different options and different types of strikers.
00:05:48
Global Sports Podcast Network
There will be no Fabio Cavallo on the bench probably for some weeks, as we discussed in our episode earlier this week. He has suffered a dislocated shoulder and has had surgery, so I don't expect to see him for at least a few weeks whilst he recovers from that, which is a shame. It's a setback.
00:06:05
Global Sports Podcast Network
It's been a very... I can imagine it's been a frustrating season for him. He's not really getting the opportunities, even when I think he should, even when he is on the bench and he's fit. I hope again that he's back by the end of the season that and that he is given more of an opportunity in the final or four or five games if he's back for those. So, you know, this is the time to do it. This is definitely the time to do it.

Bournemouth Analysis and Key Players

00:06:25
Global Sports Podcast Network
If we are mid-table, if we're if we're looking like it's going to stay that way, which at the moment it does,
00:06:30
Global Sports Podcast Network
it's a time to give you these players game time and for them to prove and be given the opportunity to prove that they can really make a difference for us next season. and As for Bournemouth, they have maintained good form this season, despite an injury crisis of their own, which has now eased the likes of Semenyo, Clive and Evan Nilsson up top, make for a very dynamic attack, I think.
00:06:53
Global Sports Podcast Network
And I really like the signings they made in recent years. They remind me a bit like, um, The new Brighton, let's say, I think that they're destined to make a lot of money on some of these players. I really like Kerkhez at left back.
00:07:06
Global Sports Podcast Network
Very young player. Again, super quick going forward. Excellent cross for the assist he got against Spurs at the weekend. And also Hausson and Zabani at centre-back. One of the most but of the youngest, the most up-and-coming centre-back pairings in the Premier League. I think Kerkhez, Hausson and Zabani, all of them.
00:07:24
Global Sports Podcast Network
May leave Bournemouth at some point, but I think they can be confident that they'll get a really, really big fee um for those combined. So very exciting times, I think. If I if i was a Bournemouth fan, I would have fought.
00:07:37
Global Sports Podcast Network
So Barnier, just so everyone knows, he missed the last game through suspension. He had a red card, think, in early February. He will be back for this one, having served his three-game ban.
00:07:50
Global Sports Podcast Network
So after the break then, i will be discussing our previous record against Bournemouth, Bournemouth's season in general, and how I think it will pan out on this occasion.

Brentford's Record Against Bournemouth

00:09:31
Global Sports Podcast Network
Hello and welcome to part two of your daily Brentford podcast. Looking ahead to our visit to Bournemouth at the weekend in the smallest stadium in the Premier League.
00:09:42
Global Sports Podcast Network
We've got a decent record actually against Bournemouth over the years and they seem to be one of those teams who are actually better than they've ever previously shown against us. I don't ever really particularly remember, certainly in the Premier League, Bournemouth looking hugely impressive as they sometimes do, particularly against the top teams in the league.

Significance of Upcoming Fixtures

00:10:01
Global Sports Podcast Network
And as they have done for so much this season, we're actually unbeaten in the Premier League against them with three wins and two draws, including an entertaining 3-2 victory at the GTEC earlier this season when Bournemouth twice went ahead, but were pegged back with two goals from Wissler and a goal from Dam's guard.
00:10:19
Global Sports Podcast Network
think the second or third goal, remember that was the one where there was brilliant work from Janel and KLP in midfield. I think there's a nutmeg involved. Janel played a great ball into Wisser to finish off.
00:10:35
Global Sports Podcast Network
That's what we want to see at the weekend. That is some of the football that we perhaps haven't seen, yeah certainly the GTEC, in recent weeks. Bournemouth themselves are currently winless in three in the league, which is their worst form for some time. Although I watched their game against Spurs at the weekend, they definitely should have won. They were 2-0 up, got pegged back.
00:10:56
Global Sports Podcast Network
Really unlucky not to win that game. Probably should have scored more than the two goals that they did get. They are still, however, currently six points ahead of Brentford and are right in the scrap for Europe. Only three points behind fifth spot and a likely Champions League space.
00:11:12
Global Sports Podcast Network
This but perhaps is it Brentford's last chance to try and join that race for the European challengers to beat a fellow team in that race.

Counter-attacking Playstyle and Strategy

00:11:22
Global Sports Podcast Network
It currently looks like an eight team race and from Nottingham Forest in third, who may be still in touch with the teams below them and Fulham, I think in ninth, I believe they're in. So there's a lot to play for um if Brentford are to get into that.
00:11:41
Global Sports Podcast Network
group of teams we do have Newcastle away after this followed by I believe Chelsea at home Arsenal away so I think it's very unlikely but I think if we're going to do it and if we're going to put ourselves in this scrap we need to be a team like Bournemouth just so we go three points behind them and just so we start to close a gap or at least one of those teams in that group ahead of us i think the fact that Crystal Palace have picked up recently and have gone above us now make our task even harder and I just can't see the consistency coming from these games coming up but we've got to go for it we you know we've we've got nothing else to play for this season we've got to go for it we've got to see what we can do and I think it starts here it has to start here and I think anything less than three points I think we could probably say it's nearly over in in relation to us getting into that race can we take positives from our previous meetings against Bournemouth they've been
00:12:37
Global Sports Podcast Network
Very successful this season against the better sides. they're They're very good on the counter-attack, similar to us at times in how they like to play. They've got a dynamic forward line. They like to get forward quickly.
00:12:49
Global Sports Podcast Network
They're not afraid to defend their box. But I'm thinking that they could struggle if maybe we sat in and tried to play them at their own game with our own front four, which are dynamic in their own right. damsgar with so shada and boomo if they're on it then I feel like we could have some joy um playing in that way. And as Bournemouth are at home, as Bournemouth are a team at the top half of the table doing what they're doing, they may feel that they can take control of this game. And if they do that, if they take control of the midfield, we might be content to sit back a little bit, hit them on the break and maybe beat them at their own game. So I think we do

Predictions and Game Strengths

00:13:28
Global Sports Podcast Network
have a chance in this one. I think our Thomas Frank style matches up well to Bournemouth normally play.
00:13:35
Global Sports Podcast Network
As I said, we've got a good record against them. As an away day, it's the smallest stadium in the Premier League and I do think that does have some type of impact. If you think the next game after Bournemouth were away at Newcastle, I think if you compare the two, Newcastle can be very intimidating. you know The home atmosphere there is is very, very good.
00:13:58
Global Sports Podcast Network
There's a lot more fans in the stadium. The away fans are up in the gods um at Newcastle. So I think It plays into our hands a little bit, considering we're also team that play at a smaller stadium.
00:14:12
Global Sports Podcast Network
Could, you know, the players be a bit more confident to express themselves in ah somewhere like this? Perhaps. It's also a stadium close to the pitch. um Fans are close to the pitch. You know, it gives a bit of Griffin Park vibes, but um more modern, let's say, given the stadium itself is not that old.
00:14:33
Global Sports Podcast Network
We do, though, if we are to get a result, i have to learn from our previous games. I think we need our front four and form the likes of Brian Abouma, especially in recent weeks. I think he's been a bit off it. It's not something a top six club would necessarily tolerate if he was playing for them.
00:14:49
Global Sports Podcast Network
i think he has been unfortunate that there's been no that he's been fortunate sorry that there's been nowhere one on the bench to really come in and replace him in some of these games. I think he has gone a little bit missing. He's been a bit frustrating to watch in the last few weeks, but we know what he can do at his best.
00:15:03
Global Sports Podcast Network
We need him on form. We need Whistler on form. We need Sharder on form. We need Dam's guard back to his best, who had a rare, quiet game at the weekend against Aston Villa. we've got some We've given away some big opportunities as well at the back in recent weeks. You know, the one-on-ones against Everton. that There was one one-on-one as well against Villa.
00:15:21
Global Sports Podcast Network
We've got to be solid at the back. Bournemouth, I think, will create chances. They've got, ah again, like I said, a dynamic forward line. So I think it'll be a difficult game. I think it'll be a close game. I do think we'll be i do think we'll be in it. I think it'll be a strong effort. and Like I said, my previous experience of Bournemouth playing against Brentford, they don't always necessarily play to their best level. or We seem to be able to do something to nullify them. So I'm hoping it might be possible to do that again this time round. My prediction...
00:15:53
Global Sports Podcast Network
I'm going to go one all. I'm not fully convinced we have what it takes to close the gap on those European places. Or Bournemouth, I think they are a different beast. I think this is probably the best shape they've ever been in when we faced them.
00:16:08
Global Sports Podcast Network
So I do think they'll pose a challenge. I do also think we'll pose them a challenge with our style and with how Thomas Grant likes to play. So I'm going to go one all. and I'm going Jelan Wisser on the score sheet.
00:16:19
Global Sports Podcast Network
And Brian Abuma to be a bit brighter than he has done recently. So that wouldn't be enough, in my opinion. That wouldn't be enough to really put us into that European conversation.

Conclusion and Social Media Reminder

00:16:29
Global Sports Podcast Network
But as an isolated result, it wouldn't be a bad one.
00:16:32
Global Sports Podcast Network
And I do think that's perhaps the most likely outcome at the weekend. So that will do for to today. Let's hope I'm wrong. And it it is three points for the Brentford on the South Coast.
00:16:45
